Went here with family & friends who recommended this place, loved the entres simple deliciously tasty, had the pasta & fish as mains scrumptious. The Lebanese red wine to die for. Service was good the owner was apologetic about the wait but we weren't bothered. A thumbs up from me

Awesome

By lindsstrom |

Love this place!! Everything was great: food, service, and atmosphere! Started off with the Artisan Cheese Plate, we didn't care for one of the cheeses so the server offered to substitute another. Great selection and really yummy fig jam on the side. For our main course we had pizza....SO GOOD. Upon the servers suggestion I had the Truffle Oil, and couldn't have been more happy. It was incredible, very light but great flavor. My boyfriend had Zoe’s Pepperoni and loved it as well. Everything from start to finish was great. Highly recommend for a date night, girls night out, anything really!

A Chip Off The Old Block

By HansvilleHugh |

I fondly remember Hussein Khazaal who started the Phonecia at Alki many years. Before that he ran a restaurant of the same name on Queen Ann Hill, where I regularly took out of town business guests for dinner. His clay pot chicken and lamb dishes (he often drove to Ellensburg to hand select his lamb) were to die for. Sadly, Hussein passed away a couple of years ago and now his family carries on the tradition, albeit differently. I will let others tell about the quality of the food and wine, as I have nothing to disagree with the positive reviews. What is most gratifying to me was to see his daughters, grown women, now, working the restaurant with the same, gentle kindness that their father used to have. The last time I saw them, they were little girls. The food is delightful and the service friendly and warm. You won't be disappointed at Phoenicia.

Would be my go to place if I lived nearby

By Chris C |

Gorgeous space, fabulous food & service

By Amanda |

We had the honey-glazed carrots & garlic green beans (amazing), burrata starter & dried fig salad. Everything tasted fresh & bright, full of flavor & color. Our sweet server even surprised us w a slice of heaven, aka chocolate panna cotta. It was a perfect evening.

Great food and views!

By seattlerose2017 |

I love this place. The food is always outstanding, the menu and specials always interesting, the service is friendly, and you're right across the street from Alki beach. Try a glass of the Lebanese red wine, a yummy big red blend.

Fantastic flavour at reasonable cost

By sunbeamimp |

We were delighted with our visit which came about by pure accident. Two of our group had pizza. The dough is matured for 2 days. The lightness and flavour from base was great. The toppings were light and full of flavour. Overall excellent. One had the rack of lamb which was perfectly pink again well flavoured with excellent seasoning. The last had the seafood ragu. The home made pasta again spot on. Good level of seafood and excellent sauce. Service was great. The lad had an excellent manner which along with excellent service. The premises were clean and overlook the bay. Well done and we will be back next time in Seattle.

Great Little Find in Alki

By J Kimberly W |

Phoenecia's is a trendy little eatery in Alki, in West Seattle. They have a tapa feel to some of their menu, small plates, but the portions to me were not small. They have a dish call spicy beef with mushrooms...so good!, I had a caprese salad and the special brick oven single pizza with fig, pancetta and some gooey cheese that was beyond delicious. The view at Phoenecia's is right on the Puget Sound, so you can eat and drink amazing wine outside face the Sound...to amazing for words.

Flavor Explosion

By Chris P |

Get ready for a flavor explosion. The food is expertly prepared and the flavors are just incredible. The service is also wonderful. I highly recommend the trio of spreads, the saffron chicken, and all the salads are excellent. The pizzas are as good as it gets. One person ordered the rack of lamb and it was done superbly. Excellent place.

Great meal! Great service!

By Dorothy C |

My daughter and I enjoyed dinner here tonight: marinated olives, grilled portobello, caprese salad (best I've ever had), margarita pizza, and a bottle of Murray cab. Food was fresh and flavorful, wine was lovely, and service was friendly and efficient. We lingered until closing without anyone nudging us out the door, and followed up with a brisk walk on the beach across the street. Highly recommend for a perfect night out.

A Hidden Gem

By Gman2053 |

Actually, Phoenecia is not hidden since I've driven passed it hundreds of times, but I had never gone in. A friend of mine recommended Phoenecia, so five of us went there on Friday, October 30, 2020. It was excellent! The food was delicious, and the service from Nadia, Sonya, and Jeffrey was superb. There was also a young man who cleared our table as needed, but I did not catch his name. Besides the entrees, I would suggest trying any of the cocktails or appetizers. For appetizers, we shared the Trio of Spreads, the 39 Spice Beef, and Burrata. For dinner I had the balsamic braised lamb shank which melts in your mouth. Two in our party enjoyed the Jewel of the Ocean which includes prawns, scallops, salmon, and clams. They said it was prepared to perfection. I also tried the Wild Mushroom Gnocchi with a side of lamb sausage. Yum! I did not get an opportunity to have the pizza, but they looked wonderful going passed our table. If you are still not full by reading my review, try the baklava or chocolate temptation cake. The next time I'm at Phoenecia, I'd like to try the fig salad. Wines by the bottle are around $50, and reservations are suggested. These are strange times for dining out, but Phoenecia is Covid-conscious. Please wear a mask when you go, and Bon Appetit!

May have once been great, but lost it's way

By Canucks Abroad |

5 of us had Dinner at Phoenicia on Sat., June 15. 4 ordered pizza. I had marguerita personal pizza $12. Fullly 1/3 of pizza was thick outer crust. Tomato sauce was sparse; perhaps 6-8 tiny sliced grape tomatoes total; basil was thin sliced and barely noticable, and you wouldn't know there was mozzarella cheese on the pizza. Dough under the topping portion was micro thin and hard, overcooked. Tried to cut with knife and fork, and took every ounce of effort. One in our party had two small plate appy items - a tomato, mozzarella and basil caprese salad and a spicy shrimp appy (4 shrimp, and not jumbo). Those two small plates and a $4 ginger beer (non-alcoholic) came to around $35. In short, food was mediocre, overpriced, and service was spotty. Highly overrated.

Just. Simply. WONDERFUL!

By Klamath87 |

So yummy and so much fun! First meeting with extended family members since Covid. The atmosphere was great, the food was great (we did it all…,wine, appetizers, multiple entrees, and one of each dessert. And our server, Jeffrey, was an absolute delight! Always interesting how a great server can make the difference between a lovely evening and a GREAT evening. Our granddaughter and her friend were, we think, quite smitten with young Jeffrey. He was charming, witty, and efficient. Couldn’t have asked for more in atmosphere, food, or service. Owner came by to check on us; always nice. Absolutely delightful evening. Highly recommend.

Intimate and cozy

By LavenderSeattle |

This little jewel on the beach is a great place to go when you want a new experience. A small, family owned spot where the menu changes so frequently that they write it on a chalkboard. Great small plates and delectable pizzas. Get there early or wait for a table. It IS well worth the wait!

Great View - Cozy and tasty

By InsolitoDavid |

I like this place very much. Check the blackboards for best results. Wood Fired pizza is a star of the show but not the only great tasting treat. This is a place to go with a few people together so you can pick from a variety of plates. A bit romantic. It isn't terribly large but it is great food.

Romantic Views with Average Food

By ebcnaz |

The views are its reason for its existence. We had the curried chicken which was overcooked and hard. The spicy beef had some unusual spices which was just different. The humus was ok and the Fig Salad was great. We were both please with the wine and the Waite Staff. Go for the views and the wine!

Great Little Place with a View

By sandy4150 |

Very good food, mostly individual pizzas (loved the fig pizza special), charming space with views of Alki beach. Would recommend for a casual+ dinner, went on my last (weeknight) birthday.

Mixed Mediterranean and Italian Options

By pferrandi |

Mostly focused on small plates and pizzas to share with a very limited wine selection. Tried the Italian red wine that was surprisingly good. Caprese salad was tasteless but pizza was good as long as you like heavy focus on "crust" which is almost like white beead. Hummus combo was fairly good but nothing to die for.

Gastronomically Good

By Marla B |

Where to start: Location Right on the Olympic waterfront with lights glistening in the background. Peaceful and sleepy little neighborhood, at least at night and this time of year (11/17). Ambiance Intimate, warm, inviting, cozy and despite it's size, very quiet. Server (wish I had written his name down, so as to give a shout out) What a joy. Very engaging, well prepared to discuss any item on the menu. Service was prompt, efficient and he left us feeling like family. We chose most of his suggestions and were gob smacked, it was SO GOOD, leaving us almost speechless. Food We first read all the specials on the blackboard. After digesting all these choices, we then moved on to the menu. So many wonderful options, thankfully there were three of us, so we could share. If my memory serves me, we had a "special baked bread" to start. I ordered a Blackboard special salad of Kale, Beets, Cheese and nuts. Dressed beautifully in a balsamic dressing. It was Delicious. Sounds pretty basic, but it was better than what I wrote here. I hear they are known for their Lamb Shank. My friend spotted this on the blackboard and she needed to look no further. It was absolutely fantastic and came with a mound of perfectly cooked green beans and I think mashed potatoes. It was truly enough for 2. She was in heaven and could not stop raving about it. The remainder of the party ordered 2 pizzas. It was the Best Pizza I have ever had. Just the right amount of herbs and spices and not too saucy. Cooked perfectly. I had the Fig and Pancetta and my friend had the Sausage and Peppers. When they arrived we both thought, no way am I going to finish this, but I think we each walked away with 2 slices. I can't say enough about my experience and will return every chance I am in the Seattle area.

Wasn't excited about it

By Annie A |

based on all the reviews, we decided to get a pizza at this quaint little restaurant along the water. I've eaten pizza all over the world and grew up in Jersey so perhaps I'm a tough critic, but I wasn't overly excited about the pizza here. Great service, great location however!

OMG!

By Diane K |

Make a reservation because this is place is popular, and when you go there you will totally understand why. Whether you are getting tapas or you choose one of their special pizzas, it is all good!

Flavor!

By RRossP |

A cozy atmosphere, gracious hosts, and terrific beach-front location are matched by the obvious love of bountiful flavours that are the key to their elegantly conceived and prepared fare. Pan roasted salmon on a bed of zaatar (from the owner's garden), balsamic braised lamb shank, fiery prawns, thin slice pizza, a warm plate of green olives, kale salad, chocolate creme brûlée - the menu is varied but concise. Prices range from very modest to special treat level. Wine offerings are varied but not overwhelming. Even the adventure that is parking near the Beach location is well worth the effort.

A truly engaging experience from start to finish

By Ericka H |

We were visiting friends in Seattle for my fiancés birthday and decided to try Phoenecia on a whim, on a Friday night, without a reservation. To start with, the Hostess was absolutely wonderful and so accommodating promising us a mere 20 minute wait, and offered us space at the bar. The bartender was very knowledgeable, exceptionally kind, and the drinks he made for us were to die for. We rather enjoyed the Empress and the Rum for Your Life drinks the most, we wiped out the stock of mix on the rum drink. We were sat as promptly as promised and we were able to place orders within 5 minutes of sitting down. We really enjoyed that the staff was all exceptionally attentive, and even had a bit of conversation with the lovely hostess, which was such an inviting touch. Now to the food, which was all absolutely devine. The plates were perfect for 4 people to share, so everyone got to try a bit of everything. The lamb lollipops were a major hit and the butternut squash pizza was a table favorite. I can honestly say that I absolutely savored every bite. Phoenecia is well worth the price, for an experience that was truly one of a kind and exceptional.

Wonderful spot for intimate dinner in Alki!

By Catc1966 |

My husband and I had a fabulous meal at Phoenicia. While we had a bit of a wait despite our reservation, it was worth it, and the restaurant comped our glasses of Prosecco we sipped while waiting. When we were seated by the window with a view of Alki beach, the fabulous experience unfolded. We ordered a bottle of Forgeron Cabernet Sauvignon to pair with the amazing charcuterie and cheese plate. There is a nice wine list. We then had the impeccably cooked scallops--delicioso! Two thumbs up! Next, we shared the prosciutto de parma pizza (perfection) and the clam linguine special. We loved that our waiter (Jeff) explained the back story of the chef's preparation of the broth for the linguine dish. We finished with a complimentary cobbler dessert, as it was our anniversary. Great service. We highly recommend Phoenicia. Their small plates concept ensures you can sample all their well-prepared culinary delights. Foodies, take note and flock here!

Beachside dining at its best

By harobed1a |

We particularly enjoyed the very special pizza crust and toppings, and the other small plates all looked very appetizing too. The beachside location is perfect for viewing spectacular sunsets in a casual, upscale atmosphere

Nothing extraordinary

By gnadivi |

Last year, some local magazine ran a review of Seattle's ethnic restaurants that shouldn't be missed, and Phoenicia was listed among them. After reading the reviews on Yelp, my girlfriend & I added it to our personal list of places to try out. I was particularly enthusiastic about going since I'm a big fan of Eastern Mediterranean cuisine. BTW - I'm not sure why some reviewers on Yelp referred to this as a Greek restaurant. As best I can tell, it's Lebanese, which would be consistent with its name - "Phoenicia" (ancient name of the area where Lebanon sits). But I digress. We arrived for a very late lunch (4pm-ish) and were starving. We ordered the Trio of Spreads small plate, and the Bean Salad to start. I then ordered the Lamb Shank daily special while my girlfriend ordered the Sausage & Peppers pizza. What a disappointment. Nothing was bad, but nothing was great either. When going to a restaurant that got reviewed so well by both a magazine and Yelpers, I had higher expectations. In fact, with the kinds of reviews this place gets, the food should've been extraordinary. And it just wasn't. In fact, just about the best thing Phoenicia has going for it is probably its view along the Alki Beach waterfront. But even that comes at a price because it's a bit of a nightmare finding parking nearby.

Disorganized, food OK, view great

By Dorothy M |

This is a busy place but a nice location with a view of Alki Beach. The staff didn’t know who was serving what, food came out at random intervals and the wait was too long when you have a small child. The lamb pops were tasty but too small, pizza not worth re-ordering, hummus plate pretty standard, but all the confusion made our meal less than relaxing.

Outstanding food, exceptional service, great value

By Lisiscout |

We went to dinner on a Thursday evening, 4 hungry adults with healthy appetites. We ordered a cross selection of small plates and salads, two specials to share (lamb shank and Mediterranean pasta), and finished with Turkish coffee and 4 different desserts. The idea was to mix and match/share everything. The staff was pleased to accommodate our idea, enthusiastic about all of us trying so many different dishes. The food was outstanding, the lamb shank particularly exceptional. We cleaned our plates and dove into dessert and coffee, never being rushed or pressured to move along for other customers. We had a delightful dinner, enjoyed the food and ourselves -- because we felt like company rather than clients. We plan to make this restaurant a regular spot when in West Seattle.

Saturday and What the ......Beach?

By LeeAnger |

I've been to Alki Beach before, but not on a Saturday night! Get set for what will be a night you won't soon forget. We chose this place for its Mediterranean fare and my love of lamb. With a third of the menu pizza, I was excited to order the special on the menu. DON"T!! It was less than good: the crust was limp and the crumbled lamb might as well have been pork or something else. A few eggplants chops couldn't redeem my disappointment. The spicy beef appetizer was quite delicious and the three others I dined with order the cod linguini and raved for days. They also loved the Nutella cheesecake which left only streaks on the plate. A walk after dinner across the street which overlooks the beach made for a very vibrant Saturday night West Seattle experience.

Good food, with charm

This is a tiny restaurant, but an absolute gem. The food is lovingly prepared and uses fresh, local, organic, sustainable ingredients. The flavors are spectacular and the wine pairings perfect. The owner takes loving pride in the food. The restaurant feels more like you are eating in someone's home. This my new favorite restaurant!. It's located in the West Seattle neighborhood and while it's just a few minutes from downtown it's a beach area . Parking is a challenge. Nice ambiance just a few steps from the water. Nice for a sunset dinner. The seafood here is incredible. I had the garlic shrimp dish with the 39 spice beef. Lots of garlic and spices and simply loaded with huge shrimp. The 39 spice beef was an amazing dish. We also love the fact that the food was not over salted. which I find almost everywhere these days and instead use wonderful fresh spices to bring out the flavors. We had the pizza and I didnt find that all that special but people seem to like the pizza here. Our waiteress really gave us great service. There is outdoor dining in the front but only a few tables. The main dining room is small but cozy. it's just really a cozy ,yummy place. Recommend reservations. It's not a very big place and people tend to linger over dinner here. I highly recommend this restaurant. I hope it does not stray from excellence. Hope you enjoy!

Go for the Sunsets, Stay for the Food

By rbkrb |

Loved it. A local friend shared this very intimate restaurant with us right on Puget Sound in West Seattle. Great place to share small and entree plates with an adventuresome group. We had four people and the varied menu offered many choices. Waitstaff were very friendly and efficient. Reservations are a good idea. Arrive early to find a parking spot and enjoy a stroll along the waters edge as you view the majestic setting sun.

Great pizza and view on Alki Beach

By lawm |

We walked along Alki looking for dinner and with other places crowded, we stopped in at the quiet Phoenecia. It did get busier as the evening went on, but was not noisy. We opted for a salad to share (it was large, so definitely share) and a pizza. We were still hungry so had a chocolate mousse cake and the baklava. They were disappointing- no mousse just a regular chocolate cake and the baklava was not fresh. We should have ordered another pizza instead!

An exceptional time!

By paul g |

This is a charming little restaurant with a great view of Elliot Bay and Alki beach. The staff was very pleasant and warm within a relaxed atmosphere. The menu was varied, allowing you to order a variety of small plates and specialty pizzas. They also had some full dinner specials as well. The pricing perhaps was a bit on the high side. Our group of six was raving about our newfound restaurant discovery and we will be back for sure.

Great tapas choice on Alki!

By markstlou |

What a great meal. Service was excellent and the views of the Bay and the beach area are great. The room was very tight, but I didnt feel squished. It is a tapas place We enjoyed the pizza, some spreads, a beef dish....all really good. I really recommend checking it out if you are wanting to eat on Alki!

Very tasty pizza and small plates!

By joycegal |

Dined for the first time at Phoenicia Monday night and I am sad that I have never been there before. The food was really good and the service was friendly and personal. Other reviewers have commented on the small dining room and close-together tables. Yes, it's less roomy than some but I didn't find it to be a problem. We sat by the window and enjoyed a beautiful Alki sunset. Our table of 4 enjoyed the mixed greens salad and the Kale salad that was on the special board. Both were delicious. We also sampled the 39 flavor beef, yum! and the seared scallops small plate...definitely should not miss that one...One couple shared the sausage pizza with mama lil's peppers...mmmmm. And the other had the Margarita pizza. I am from Jersey so usually like thin crust east coast style pizza but this crust was very flavorful and melted in your mouth...this Jersey Girl gives it a thumbs up! The specials on the board looked really tasty and the wines by the glass were delicious. Please note that they offer beer and wine only! We also tried the baklava which was just the right portion and fantastic. Highly recommend trying Pheonicia. We will be back again soon.

Yum!!!

What luck that this place is within walking distance of our family! Really good food and great value!

Great spot at Alki Beach

I arrived just in time to watch the sunset tonight and from our corner table it was beautiful. The glasses of wine are generous. The food was good and the service very good. (Our waiter had a fun sense of humor which kept us entertained.

Family business with a heart

By cynbruce |

Following in Dad's footsteps, this family makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Excellent pizza. Amazing cheese platter. And you can't beat the view.

Amazing Pizza!

By VKoala |

Phoenecia is one of our regulars in West Seattle. The service at this family owned restaurant makes you feel like you're eating in their home dining room. With a beautiful view of alki, blackboard cafe feel, and delicious menu, this restaurant is perfect for a date night. Every time we come here we order the 39 spice beef and Prosciutto de Parma pizza. The beef dish is packed with incredible flavors, is mouth-watering tender, and has a little kick to it. The prosciutto pizza doesn't look like much but after you pick up one pizza, you'll want to eat the whole thing. Each pizza is only 4 pieces, so order more than one if you have more than 2 people.

Stylish tapas and pizza

By Jefmac M |

Great little modern Italian-style pizza and small plates restaurant on Alki Beach overlooking Puget Sound. Clean, stylish and casually sophisticated all-black interior, this is a family-run place and you'll see the Mom and sisters often, always smiling and nice. The pizzas are very good, with the chewier Italian-style crusts and well portioned toppings including lamb sausage, figs, hot peppers, and more. Their tapas plates are exactly what I like: focused, flavorful, and well presented. Nice wine list, if a little pricier than it used to be - but you can get a nice bottle of red in the $30s. We've spent many evenings there at a table pushed up against the window, eating, drinking and chatting. I particularly like ending with the bananas foster dessert paired with a decaf Turkish coffee. The menu has been relatively fixed for some time, which is good for consistency - you know what you want will be there, particularly when bringing guests.

Lovely small restaurant overlooking Alki beach in W. Seattle

By petunia615 |

The food was very good, our table by the window overlooked the beach, and the wine list was both interesting and reasonable. We walked from the Water Taxi dock, an easy and very pleasant stroll. From the warm olive plate to salads and pizzas, wine, and good coffee, it was a most pleasant evening.

Very good food and interesting menu

By Murray P |

Really enjoyed our dinner at this place. Definitely not a standard a la carte menu but that added to the enjoyment. Good sized plates and efficient staff. Nice view of the beach and sound.

Excellent food. New very modern place they have moved to- didn't see a separate listing. . Liked it a lot.

By Pepper |

This is a family restaurant and even in its new digs it has that same feel. The wait staff was a bit young and inexperienced but we got good service. The lamb was excellent- done perfectly- we had a variety of small plates and liked all of them. They also had good wine by the glass. It was quiet enough to hear each other too, which I really appreciated . It was our friend's " go- to" place and if we lived closer, it would be ours.

Great Pizza At Phoenecia

By TJFLG42 |

Phoenecia in Seattle, Washington is a small seaside restaurant with a view of the water. It serves delicious small plates and great pizza. One would not expect such food at a touristy/seaside restaurant. The wait staff and owner are very friendly and helpful. However, they only serve from 5:00 on.

Hussein would be proud

By frogprince |

For those of us who knew and loved Hussein Khazaal as a Seattle restaurateur for over 35 years, it's hard to read the review by "gnadivi" without taking it as a personal affront. Hussein's passing in the summer of 2009 left a huge gap not only in the Seattle restaurant scene but also in our hearts. To this day, I can't be in the restaurant without shedding a tear, because it brings back so many memories of Hussein, as well as his innovative take on Middle Eastern cuisine. Now, my affection and respect for the entire Khazaal family requires me to set the record straight. When Hussein's wife and kids decided to re-open the restaurant, I think they knew that many of us would be comparing their food to their dad's, so they came up with an entirely different concept. The "new" Phoenicia doesn't serve Middle Eastern food but rather an interesting blend of savory small plates, artisanal pizzas and a few daily entree specials that are written on a large chalkboard. There is also a much expanded wine list (compared to what Hussein had available.) This is a neighborhood bistro, not an ethnic restaurant. Now, Phoenicia is packed almost every night, and people wait in line to get a seat. That alone tells you that the Khazaal family must be doing something right with the food. Some of my favorites are the 39 Spice Beef, Garlic Green Beans, Grilled Portabella mushroom and Fiery Prawns/Scallops. My husband said the lamb shank is one of the best in Seattle. And I love "Mom's Baklava" with Husky Ice Cream. As for the artisanal pizzas, in my opinion they are very good and well worth ordering. Compared to other pizzas I admire in Seattle (Tutta Bella, Cafe Lago) these are thicker and chewier and the top portion of the crust is more like bread than a cracker. That in turn makes you want to eat the whole piece and not leave a portion of the crust on your plate - very filling. I can understand why someone expecting Middle Eastern food might be disappointed by the "new" Phoenicia. But in truth even Hussein's food wasn't pure Middle Eastern. Hussein was always experimenting and he liked to mix it up with fresh ingredients from the Pacific Northwest, paired with his unique hand-blended spices. The result was something magical. Now his wife and kids have created a new kind of magic with a high quality bistro menu that clearly pleases a much wider demographic. I feel very certain that Hussein would be beaming with pride if he could see them now.
