The food is consistently and absolutely delicious. Customer service is excellent, including Clementi's (sp?) energy. The neighborhood is nice.

Decent Meal! This place is loud!

By catchyginger |

Had a pretty decent Italian meal here the other day. We managed to get last minute reservations and did not wait long for a table. We were seated inside and it was very loud. It was somewhat difficult to have conversation. Now if you do not want to talk to your friend/partner/mate/significant other/boss, then you may not mind the degree of noise. Ok, enough on the noise level. You get the idea. Let us talk about the food. We had the eggplant appetizer that was pretty great. Gently fried eggplant and cheese. Can't go wrong there unless you are lactose intolerant. It was quite good. I had the shrimp and arugula pasta. The pasta was done perfectly. The sauce was good but nothing amazing. There were plenty of shrimp. Overall decent. My girlfriend had the spaghetti with marinara sauce. It was good but what can you say, it was spaghetti. The service was prompt and attentive. No complaints there. To conclude, the food is good, but perhaps not the best Italian in South Park. The noise level was exceptional. I recommend asking for an outdoor table. I would go back as long as I can get an outside table!

Majestic

By camtousley |

I've passed by this place a few times and finally decided to try...color me impressed. The look/atmosphere is authentic and quaint, the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and seem to enjoy giving patrons a great experience and are very attentive. Service was excellent, food was delicious (we had a few of the salads, the baked eggplant, Caprese app, a few of the pastas and tiramisu for desert. Prices are very reasonable as well. The perfect spot for a romantic night out or a great place to unwind with a glass of vino.

Excellent Italian in SouthPark!

By Mike P |

Friends and I went to this restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed our time once we got seated. Getting seated was a little messy but the staff could not have been more accommodating. They have a great selection of salads, pastas and great entree's. All of us loved our dishes. They also have a nice wine list reasonably priced. The server we had was very friendly and provided us with excellent service. What I didn't like - the boring, tasteless olive oil with lentils they serve with the bread. Would also love to see a nice crusty,Tuscan style bread. Will I go back? Absolutely!

Fantastic Food & Superb Service!

By Traci P |

Piacere Mio is an amazing Italian restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing! The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Add in superb service and it is a must if you are in South Park. Start with the Polpo E Patate and you won't be disappointed. Everything was just outstanding!

Their New Del Sur Location

By DiCalif |

We have been fans of Piacere Mio in South Park. They recently opened a second restaurant in the Del Sur Town Center in North County. I think it is better than the original! Food and Service were excellent. We were a party of 4, and everyone exclaimed over their food. We will be back!

outstanding

By Lynnbrownstone |

This restaurant is consistently outstanding, from the food to its customer service, such as Manuela and Clemente! It is located in a nice neighborhood.

Such a Pleasure! "Piacere Mio" ( Italian for " my pleasure")

I live in San Diego and love going to this local restaurant. The food is delicious (homemade pastas); the service is exquisite (kindness, warmth, hospitality); the atmosphere is relaxing (I never feel rushed); the dining experience is always great!! So if you are in San Diego, try out my favorite restaurant!!

Leave room for desert

We all had different meals, 2 raviolis, a Carbonara, and a Salsiccia. All fantastic with home made pasta. Good service and a good atmosphere. Could have been a little cooler inside but other than that a great meal. We split the tiramisu and it was fantastic. One of the best I have ever had. I do not know if it was traditional or not but it was delicious.

Great atmosphere

By akajoebess |

Standing outside you couldn't help but smell the garlic coming thru the door to the restaurant. I was a really good smell and I cou;dn't wait to eat there. We visited the Target across the street and selected a bottlle of wine to bring to the restaurant ($9 corkage). Although we were told it would be 30 minutes until we were seated, our table became available sooner. That was great. What wasn't great was that our table was direclty accross from the door to the bathroom. The atmosphere inside this rather small restaurant was loud but not so loud you couldn't hear. The hostess and our waitress were both from Itlay and were very gracious. Knowing that chicken parm is an american dish and remembering that the sign outside says "authentic itlaian food", I decided to take a chance and order the chicken parm...my favorite. As they put the dish on the table the I couls see that chicken was in a perfect oval shape with a consistent thickness. The chicken was made from a frozen patty. This was a great disappointment but I will return to give them another chance and try the ravioli, which looked excellent. The pasta is homemade and the gravy was delicious! Prices are average.

Delicious food, delightful atmosphere.

Any chance we get to head south from LA, we stop here. The food is great, with fresh ingredients and bright flavors, and the service is top-notch. I wish it were closer--we'd be there every week!

Exceptional value, very good food and a great vibe

By 0591TimS |

We had noted that this restaurant rated excellent from all six reviewers on Trip Advisor and decided to try for an early dinner on Sunday. But our navigation, maps and Yelp all stated it was closed or moved. (This restaurant doesn't have a website nor could we find a telephone number.) We're very glad we drove to the Fern and Grape location and were seated right away on the quite small patio. Everything was very good. Our only disappointment was the risotto special was described as shrimp and seafood but what came only had shrimp. The cioppino was excellent. Portions are not large, but are plenty. With a bottle of chilled Italian white wine the bill was only $69. Terrific value for such good quality Italian fare. Inside the decor is bare brick walls and wood floors but it didn't seem too noisy at all. We'll be going back, I'm sure.

Worth your while to try

By Dan F |

Absolutely great place to go for lunch. Wasn’t very crowded so the wait staff were very attentive. The swordfish dish was stupendous. Generous portion of fish over chopped vegetables and leafy greens. Didn’t look like much from the get go but it certainly filled me up. Ambiance has a nice modern rustic feel to it. Italian guys work there. Definitely worth your while to check it out.

High quality authentic Italian cuisine prepared in house

By SnowshoeBunny |

Their own bread, fresh pastas, outstanding risotto, and inventive preparations makes it worthwhile to seek it out. Be sure to have the panna cotta for dessert. Their tiramasu is equally delicious but finding authentic panna cotta is rare. Excellent service as well.

best Italian food outside of Italy

By 0618Carol |

Pasta is handmade! The sauces are fantastic. As an Italian who travels to Italy every year, I am very picky about Italian food. I would drive to San Diego just to eat here

Disappointed

By Liorashamayne |

Spaghetti Sauce is bland Meatball .. Ok.. Salad ok loverpriced Poor service Hype atmosphere, we felt like we were doing them a favor. Not friendly. Nicely decorated but very disappointed considering other reviews. Going back to Lidos in Lemon Grove. We would try Piacere Mio again , but with the uppity atmosphere, not worth it. Try smiling at your customers. Having an Italian accent does not impress me.

Off the beaten path

By heuster3 |

"O sole mio"....Yes, "my own sun" In this crazy world we live in, this is a shining beacon hidden in an evolving neighborhood that I live in. I love coming here because the people are so friendly! I also like to bring family and friends to a very authentic Italian restaurant that isn't in Little Italy. I go through phases so at times, I'll only eat the spaghetti carbonara, which reminds me of the one I ate in Rome; or I'll only have the squid ink pasta or the lasagne. I sometimes will have the chicken with lemon sauce, and most recently, I've fallen in love with their grape salad. My favorite is their brasato when they have it! We have gotten to know a number of the servers, and some have gone on to new adventures, but Vincenzo is there to take care of you. This visit I had the pesto with linguine and added chicken. It was delicious! The partner in crime had the pollo parmesan which was soooooo good! And of course, Cako ordered a grilled chicken breast. They have outdoor seating and dog friendly. Cako loves coming here because in the course of the evening, she will lay down. Parking can be difficult. We walked cause it's not too far from home. It can get loud inside but if you sit in one of the corners, it's not so bad. On a nice evening, even a chilly one, the patio is great! This is a really great place to dine! I can definitely compare it to the real thing, I've been to Rome...this is the realest thing next to traveling to the motherland...LOL!

Great Value off the Tourist Map

By Joelamountain |

Piacere Mio it's not exactly in the touristy part of town, where I was staying. But I was visiting a friend and it was nearby and look inviting so I decided to pay a visit for dinner. A few minor modifications and its five stars in my book. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The food is also very good. I enjoyed the steamed artichoke appetizer, which unfortunately was drowning in (delicious) sauce. The octopus and potato appetizer was also excellent. The octopus were incredibly tender. I finished with homemade lemon sorbet. I loved that there was no music being piped in and you could hear yourself think. A couple other minor improvements would include not serving the next course until the previous one was finished (major pet peeve) and re-silvering the table after plates were cleared. The service was attentive without being overbearing and the value was excellent given the quality of the food. Definitely worth a visit.

Great food

By BrianPilkington |

While a small place the service and food were excellent. The outdoor patio is nice and seems to have more room than inside.

Best italian restaurant i have ever seen!

By Aviv S |

we had a dinner at Sunday evening, the food was just fantastic! Super tasty and super fast. The salmon and the bolonase are my favorites but according to my friends all the dishes where very good. There is a near big free parking, would recommend to pre order a table. Great for friends and family, a little noisey for meetings. Highly recommended!!! Must visit!

Neighborhood GEM in South Park/Burlingame

By SFDutchman |

Excellent Italian neighborhood restaurant with amazing friendly and helpful staff. Excellent menu of typical with a twist Italian choices. Make your own Pasta dishes option rocks with multiple choices. Delicious mains and antipasti. Nice selection of Italian bottles of wine priced very well. We had a SuperTuscan for $28 and it was Delicious. Started off with the Fern Salad (Fern street) and the soup of the day which was a tomato based lentil. One of us had the Stink of lamb with mouthwatering saffron risotto. The other one had the pork with eggplant and pasta. Finished off the meal with a cannolli. Large portions that are VERY well-priced YUM. Great table service by true Italians. A new favorite in San Diego. They also have a 2nd location in greater San Diego.

A great small Italian Restaurant in South Park

By Mike M |

My wife and I live in Los Angeles, but visit friends and family in San Diego several times a year. If we are going to be there for two nights or more, we'll hit a good Italian restaurant for dinner. Mia Piacerre usually makes the cut. We've eaten there half a dozen times in the last three years, and have enjoyed each visit. The food is good--the wine list is nice--and the service is usually at least okay. If the restaurant is jammed with customers, service suffers a bit. They sometimes have lamb shank on the menu, and if it's available when you're there go for it! Their pasta dishes are always nice. I saw a comment that they didn't serve "real Italian food". Well shucks, several of their cooks and wait staff I've met over the years were born in Italy and came to the States. And there are great regional differences in Italian cooking (I've done business in, and vacationed in Italy). If you eat here, you'll enjoy it. I've had both lunch(es) and dinner(s) at the restaurant.

Italian classics and more

Awesome Italian spot in South Park. They’ve got both indoor and outdoor seating — we went with the patio and it was perfect. The menu has all the Italian favorites plus some rotating specials. Service was solid and the prices were totally fair.

Great Italian in San Diego

By AlbertoooooB |

We’ve been here with the family for out holidays in California. This restaurant was a surprise, we chosen it because another one was full but we were very happy about this unplanned choice. The restaurant is very nice, “warm”, the service super kind and professional, the quality of the food and the dishes was excellent. Good chiice of wine, affordable. Bottom line: try it, you’ll be happy as well, like we were!

Authentic delicious Italian food!

By PtLomafoodie |

I’m so very proud of Marco & Stefano . They opened this business around 2012, and it grew from a coffee & gelato business to a full restaurant. And not just 1 restaurant, but 4 restaurants in San Diego. The food is amazing. I had one of 4 dishes that have eggplant as an ingredient. I had the appetizer eggplant rolled around mozzarella and ricotta cheese with a fresh tomato sauce. I had this with a salad and it was more than I could eat for lunch. My daughter had the beef ravioli with mushroom sauce. She absolutely loved it! I’m pretty sure this pasta is made in-house. And the bread is also very fresh. Cute interior with exposed brick wall, interesting globe light fixtures, wood tables and wood chairs. The kitchen is semi open, and you can see the cooks in the kitchen. Additional seating outside along the sidewalk, bistro-style. Highly recommend!

Great Italian food!!

By maringfro |

The only reason I rated this restaurant as a 4 rather than a 5 is because the noise is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO loud in side, that it's almost impossible to talk to your dinner partner(s). There's a small patio in the front but it's hard to get a table there. Reservations are necessary if you don't want to wait in a long line for a table.

South Park gem!

By Deborah B |

South Park is a cool urban neighborhood to explore for many reasons. If you want a nice Italian meal, Piacere Mio is the place to go. Great location with on street parking. I met a colleague after work for dinner mid-week (mid-week). I arrived an hour early for our 6 PM reservation. After walking around South Park, I decided to try to be seated at the restaurant and have a glass of wine while waiting. No problem, I was seated early, despite the fact the restaurant was quite full. The place is small and cozy. The servers are very polite and professional, and Italian! I was handed three menus and told that my questions would be answered. My wine order was taken right away. I was served tasty bread with olive oil with my wine. The food was delicious. There are specials, several Italian entrees, and a page of mix & match homemade pastas and sauces to choose from. The wine menu was quite nice. My friend and I stayed 2 and a half hours and never felt rushed. We were given a complimentary dessert to share. The only reason I did not rate with 5 stars was the lack of introduction to the menus. This was my first time at the restaurant. I did not know there was a happy hour from 5-6 PM with reduced prices on a select group of wines and draft beer as well as apps (tableside, there is no bar). There are also wines of the day that are higher than happy hour, but reduced price from the wine menu list. Had I known, I would have taken advantage of the happy hour offerings. I only found out after my colleague arrived and I looked at the menus. One menu was the happy hour menu (M-Th 5-6PM). Perhaps my fault? Agreed, however, I would have appreciated a "heads-up" from the staff. I'll definitely try again when in the neighborhood.

Delicious & Fantastic Service

By Sarah R |

I absolutely love this restaurant. The food is exrtremely fresh and delicious and the service even better. The fact that we can make a reservation, get fantastic and thoughtful service, and (dare I say) more delcious food than the other Italian place down the street, we will be a regular.

Great Food, Great Service!

Great Food, Great Service! Had a good time here. Expect a short wait Time in the evening, because the Place Is well known to locals as well!

A bit of Italy in San Diego

By Lucy L |

We had a very enjoyable lunch on Monday Feb 16th. There were few clients and service was pleasant and prompt. Our entrees were large, very large, we took home about half of each. The pasta was homemeade and excellent. The chef and our server were Italian and very attentive to our needs. This is now our favorite Italian restaurant in San Diego. I highly recommend it.

Worth the visit in South Park neighborhood!

By Lori S |

Great food, great service and wonderful vibe in this place. Clementino (sp?) was our server and he made great suggestions for us. If they have the artichoke appetizer as a special, get it! The hot bread and olive oil/vinegar is a wonderful starter as well. We had two of the salads before our pasta dishes. No room for dessert, but we were gifted a piece of dark chocolate cake to take home and enjoy later.

Not just another Italian Resturant

By rockalien |

Piacere Mio Ristorante Italiano located at 1947 Fern Street, San Diego, CA 92102 is a cozy little restaurant, which opened around 6 months ago and is located in the South Park community of San Diego. The food is savory, featuring a build your own pasta menu as well as weekly specials which feature local fresh caught seafood. I have personally had a delicious Salmon dish and the friend I was dining with enjoyed a locally caught halibut dish. (we each sampled from each others plate.) We was very impressed with the presentation of the food. They start you out with fresh baked bread that is crusty on the outside and oh so soft on the inside. This is served with a dish of lentils in olive oil. They have a nice selection of wine to choose from as well. The owners Stefano and Marco are both from Italy and stopped by our table each of the two times we have been there to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The servers were great. Very well informed and attentive to our needs throughout the whole meal. I am attaching a photo of the Salmon dish I mentioned . Notice the presentation and the real orchard that is on the plate. It tasted even better than it looks.

Not Italian!

By CherylintheDesert |

If looking for authentic Italian this is not the place. I own a home in Italy and am always seeking authentic Italian cuisine...this is not it. Find someplace else! Even service was “marginal”. :(. And this was for my birthday. Sad...

Amazing

This is a great restaurant. The cioppino was probably the best I have ever had. Good service and fun atmosphere

Molto Bene – Appetizers, Pasta and Desserts

By Paul S |

Excellent Italian food. Our group enjoyed a special appetizer of artichokes, ravioli stuffed with eggplant, ravioli stuffed with salmon and shrimp, orecchiette (little ear shaped pasta), and the fish special of halibut. All dishes were fresh, tasty and nicely spiced. Desserts of cannoli, crème brulé and gelato completed a fine meal. Staff were friendly and attentive.

the perfect brunch

By Lynnbrownstone |

Brunch dishes are made to perfection. Service is excellent. The ambiance is a happy one. The restaurant is in a great location.

Authentic Italian in San Diego

By Dean R |

A wonderful experience had by all. I brought 3 out of town friends here and they could not stop talking about it the rest of the trip. From the ambiance and service, to the food itself, everything was PERFETTO! The place to go when you are in San Diego for truly authentic Italian food. I only wish I had a larger stomach so I could have ordered more food! My advice is to go multiple times and try as many things as you can. This place would be great for any occasion and is a must have while in America's finest city.

Piacere Mio Ristorante Italiano was amazing

By Steven M |

My wife, my daughter and her husband stopped at this restaurant which is local to their neighborhood.I had the Pollo Alla Parmigiana with a glass of Lambrusco, This is a meal I use to see how I will like an Italian restaurant and this one was perfect. The pasta was very good and the portion was huge. The staff was very friendly and they were always making sure that everything was right. The prices were pretty reasonable and the service was great. If I lived in San Diego this would be my go to place,

Food is great, Credit Card Charges...not so much

By ShizzleSD |

Check Your Final Credit Card Statement Charges - Mild Fraud My GF and I got to visit this lovely place last week after deciding we were going to skip the Valentines day rush. The food was excellent we both enjoyed our meals and the 3 servers who were helping us throughout the dining experience were very friendly! Kodus to them. The final bill presented on the table was correct. A few days later I noticed they had charged my card much more ($9 more) to be exact after the pending charges went through! This is often the case when employees try to get a bit more on the tip line. Most people don't go back to check pending charges on their statement once it's completed so they take a few more dollars, basic fraud. I kept the receipt. The bank has refunded my money after not being able to get an answer from the vendor. I called the restaurant to see if I can speak to a manager to see if it was an honest mistake, but before I can even get through this lady on the phone yelled at me for asking for her name. Perhaps she thought I was a solicitor? Nevertheless when you own an establishment customer service should always be a number 1 priority. Never yell, very unprofessional. I'm not hating on the food or service, just am not a big fan of establishments committing fraud. If you plan on visiting, keep a close eye on the final amount that's charged on your card a few days later. Be cautious and safe!

Sublime Italian

By deranieri2016 |

San Diego now has a plethora of excellent Italian restaurants -- this is one of the best if not THE best. After operating as an excellent neighborhood coffee shop, the owners closed down for a few months and re-opened as a full service authentic Italian restaurant with home-made pasta (including gluten-free!) and sauces you simply cannot get anywhere else (try the nuziale). The wine list is excellent a reasonably priced. The service is extraordinary and the owners (Marco and Stefano) are always on site to make sure their customers are enjoying the cuisine and the service. Truly a remarkable restaurant. Make reservations! You'll need them. My only quibble is that it is not open for lunch ... yet!

Great find in San Diego

By Bill F |

We were staying in an AirBnb in the area and asked a kid at the Target if there was any where around to eat. He pointed across the street. We checked it out and what a fabulous restaurant. It was small and lively. The pasta is homemade and the sauces were just right. The staff was excellent and friendly. I recommend this place highly.

My pleasure indeed!

By McAko V |

You can feel the love the moment you walk in. You're warmly greeted and seated likely by the chef/owner himself. This restaurant grew out of the efforts of two individuals who were colleagues while working at another restaurant. When they embarked on their own adventure and opened a small eatery they were encouraged by their previous employer to expand into what is today a pleasure to everyone. It is not so often that one restaurateur helps finance a competing property but in reality it really is not so. The fact that this restaurant is so good, comfortable and a delight points out the fact the it doesn't compete with the other and actually enhances the relationship. My friends, who introduced me continue to frequent both. Delightful!

Trendy Italian neighborhood eatery. Worth a visit when in the BalboaPark area

By fwaffarn |

A trendy venue for the locals (and visitors) in the South Park neighborhood next to Balboa Park. Reservations a must. Crowded and higher than expected noise level inside. Service was friendly, but a bit rushed with quick turn over of tables. A delectable selection of pastas. We had the gnocchi, spaghetti with marinara sauce and egg plant parmesan. All good. Worth a visit. The South Park neighborhood has many alternatives in a similar price range.

Could be 4 star

By Gary y Maria El... C |

The food was very good. But, the service was a little confusing. I'm not sure who are waiter was because several workers provided service at our table. The main problem encountered was the noise. It was so loud I had to lean over and speak in to the person's ear to be heard. I ordered swordfish and it was soft and overcooked. It must have been frozen. But, if they can soften the sound and have some improvement on the service, it could be a 4 star.

Sunday italiano style

By roxiesunshine |

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon I decided to have an early dinner at Piacere Mio an authentic Italian restaurant located in the quaint neighborhood of South Park. Always one to start my meals with a salad, I went with their signature salad of mixes greens, tomato, corn and avocado tossed in a light lemon vinegarette dressing. The salad was light and refreshing. Their menu offers a nice mix of antipasto to start, salads, primi and secondi entrees. For the primi you can opt for the selection of specialty pastas or choose your own style. My choice this afternoon was the papparedelle with bolognese and 2 meatballs. Pasta was fresh, the bolognese meaty. What I did not care for were the meatballs. Too much garlic and a bit tough. Meatballs should be juicy and tender. Overall it is a lovely restaurant to grab a nice Italian meal. Service was courteous and attentive. If you find yourself in South Park and craving italian, Piacere Mio is your spot.

Slightly disappointed

By Rodney A |

We had heard that Piacere Mio opened up in a new location which was closer to where we live, Paseo Del Sur. We had dinner ther tonight and was slightly disappointed in the over all quality. The service was adequate but not great, a bit on the slow side but polite. I had the pasta with Wild boar, which was great. My wife had the Carbenaro which was really just so so. We started with the Caesar salad which was not very good. I would rate this place as a middle of the road Italian restaurant. Not sure we will return. Prices are reasonable and the wine prices are low so that is a plus. The bread they serve is less than exciting. Almost like eating white bread in flavor.

Mama Mia What a Meal !!!

By The2TravelingFools |

Three of us had reservations for 8 pm and the place was packed. Server was most helpful. Each of us had a different pasta dish. Each was delicious and the portions were huge. We each took a box home as we couldn't eat it all. Yes, it was delicious again the next morning. Highly recommend reservations.

Great atmosphere

By Marino |

Prosciutto and burrata cheese was a good start. The seafood pasta was great. The sausage based pasta was a bit salty. Beer selection is good given the apparent craft beer culture in San Diego. Definitely worth a visit if in the neighbourhood.

Always a great meal and fun time

By LynaghB |

The food here is incredible. The wait staff have been exceptional. I met my sister here for lunch one day and one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. We returned for a dinner and I highly recommend reservations as the line was around the block and we were able to walk in on time to our table per our reservation. I'm taking three friends tonight

Upscale Italian cuisine

By Elle B |

Meeting friends of our son, who lives in South Park, we all enjoyed our meals and then some. Meat & cheese platter, Bruschetta, and fresh bread were all excellent. Veal, lamb, lasagna, and pasta were all prepared very well. We even had a fluent Italian guest and she was quite engaged with our very pleasant server. Cannoli did not live up to NJ standard, but it was very good. Another great place to return to again next time.

Amazing Food & Service!

By Richard C |

The food is amazing and it looks and tastes incredible! No matter you pick on the menu you will be happy. Always packed and always a wait.. but definitely worth it! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Enjoy!

A Don't Miss Place to Visit

By MelanieMcSmith |

The atmosphere here is that of a family business, where everyone wants to ensure you have a delicious meal. You can come dressed casually or formally and still feel comfortable. There is outside and inside seating. They make their pasta. We were in town for a week and came twice. I had swordfish one time and spinach ravioli another time. My daughter had lasagna and beef ravioli. She loved the complimentary bread. I also had a salad. We had their cheesecake, which was equally fantastic. If we had been in town longer, we would have gone back another time. The menu had so many more items we wanted to try. Everything was excellent and tasted like we had vacationed in Italy, rather than San Diego.

Great brunch

By Daniel C |

Me and the wife had a lovely brunch. They have a good selection of healthy offerings. They also have some great tasting coffee. There wine list is also impressive.

Good Authentic Italian

By Tm213 |

Wonderful service, Italian servers. Food is very good- I've had ravioli and pasta dishes, and friends had seafood, lasagna and risotto. Not a full bar, only beer & wine. Good selection of wines. Reservations required on weekends (especially), very popular place!

ITALY IN SAN DIEGO

By Jerlew |

A great find tucked away in South Park. Piacere Mio (My Pleasure) is special. Nearly every type of Pasta dish one could wish for takes up only a small portion of the menu. Great salads, Lasagna and speciality dishes. We tried several selections and all were perfectly prepared and presented. We didn't know everything on the menu but the server was very helpful and guided us to some wonderful tastes. My wife loves fresh bread and was delighted at the bread presentation. This is a great place to take both in-town and out- of- town friends. While it is a good idea to make reservations any evening it is a must on weekends. Reasonably good parking. Lunch and Dinner. If you enjoy Italian food you will not be disappointed with Piacere Mio

Piacere Mio

By BuckeyeO-H-1-O |

This is an smaller capacity Italian restaurant that serves absolutely delicious food. A whole page of the menu is dedicated to the options for creating your own pasta dish, and I found the funghi cream sauce an absolute treat upon tagliatelle. My friend had stuffed ravioli and seemed very pleased with that selection. We also had the tiramisu for dessert, which was excellent. The smaller size of the venue, the rustic decor, and the lighting, Piacere Mio has an intimate feel that seems especially good for small family/friend groups or date nights. This is a gem of a restaurant, nestled in a neighborhood of San Diego, that is well worth a visit.

Makes me wish I spoke Italian

By Mark P |

Went here for a Good Friday lunch with a work group and were warmly greeted by Marco. One of our party was Italian and spoke the language to probably treat us better than we deserved. We started with a parma ham/bufalo mozzarela appetizer as well as an eggplant roll. Both were fantastic. I enjoyed the linguine alla vongole and the taste of fresh made pasta was so obvious - compared to the stuff we buy in a box. Others enjoyed a house chicken salad, lasagna, eggplants and sausage orichetta. No one left hungry as these "lunch portions" were far more than any of us could eat. The decor was simple yet appropriate and the service was outstanding. This is a "must visit" place for me and I look forward to my next non-working trip where I might enjoy some vino with my dinner. Lunch worked out to about $20/person including soft drinks and appetizers. Well worth it! Truly outstanding in atmosphere and food quality - ample parking across the street!

The Real Italian

By Jdicarlowagner |

We love this local jewel. The gnocchi is heavenly, the bread is divine, the atmosphere is romantic and we go regularly. Everything is delicious, homemade, and served with pride.

Great in its simplicity

By Cape_Cod_Antoine |

The greatness in my meal was not overdoing any of the dishes I had. The smoked salmon app was delicious with its lemon sauce. The gnocchi with red sauce with mozzarella melted over top was filling and the dessert was a terrific ending.

Delicious Italian

By Scott S |

This neighborhood restaurant, okay it's not in my neighborhood, is excellent. From the delicate dressing on our very fresh salads, to the bite of the pasta in a delicious carbonara sauce, Piacere Mio is a place I will come back to, especially with out of town friends. Did I mention the pannacota dessert. Wow, I'm usually a chocolate guy but in this case, it was all I could do to not lick the bowl! By the way, the staff were all exceptionally nice, as well as the price points!

Great Italian in South Park

First time here. The setting and neighborhood is quite nice. Food was very authentic middle to southern Italian. We shared the artichoke special and it was excellent. We also shared the octopus salad. The preparation was very authentic like I have had several times in Italy. Simple with potatoes and octopus. They added some kalamata olives also. Needed a bit more lemon than they gave us and the octopus was a little chewy. I know this is a tricky dish. Only 3-4 stars for this. If they could nail the octopus prep it would be 5 stars. Eggplant dish and the Occhetti with sausage were both great. All portions were very generous. I would definitely come back.

Dont know where to start.......

By Simon Ordever |

..so why not at the begining, are you sitting comfortably? then I shall begin... We booked a table, got there bang on time, but...there was a backlog, (7.30pm aint a very original time to book a table for), but..... we waited less than 10 minutes, seated in the red- brick interior of this European tavern like bistro. The server, whilst not a seasonsed professional, was charming and attentive, the house wine by the glass was reasonably priced (and better than the usual House Plonk), and the menu sufficiently wide to cater for all four of us. My companion is a vegetarian, I dont eat Shell Fish, the other couple eating most anything that either swims or runs. The House Salad was generous witht he plumpest sweetest tomatoes I have ever tasted. The Swordfish was perfectly prepared and the roasted veggies, a joy. According to our friends, their scallopini was large, thinly cut and tasty and the Clams Pasta was delicious. And you know what? Forty something bucks per couple makes it a definite "come back soon" sort a place! (beware, its pretty noisy because of the brickwork interior)

Fantastic

We absolutely loved this restaurant. We each ordered something different and shared our meals. There wasn't a bad choice among ours. Each was delicious. Service was outstanding. We highly recommend!

Piacere Mio...No, the pleasure was mine.

By Wanderlustsuzy |

Tonight was my third visit and I'm ashamed to say I ordered the Spaghetti a la Carbonera all three times. It makes me happy and secure in that I now have leftovers in the freezer. My husband had pork scallopine and plans on ordering that again...wonderfully seasoned Marsala sauce. Our grandson had the swordfish and they allowed him to substitute potatoes and vegetables for the salad and they prepared it without butter to accommodate his dietary restrictions. My husband has had the salmon before and was very satisfied. The restaurant was a little noisy this evening...clanking of dishes...but overall, it was a most pleasant dining experience.

wonderful

By Dalyce |

We were a party of 5 and everyone got something different. There was the Ravioli Di Carne al Funghi (homemade meat filled ravioli with a mushroom sauce), Stinco di Agnello (lamb shank with saffron risotto), Scaloppine al Marsala (pork tender loin with a marsala sauce), Salmone al Melograno and Gnocchi alla Sorrentina. The food was awesome. The prices were reasonable. I would recommend calling ahead for reservations, we didn't have them but they were able to accommodate us with a short wait. Definitely one of the best Italian meal that we have enjoyed in a while.

Great food, excellent service and well priced

By Kiwiboy456 |

It was so good we went back a couple of nights later. We didn't have a booking but were asked if we were happy to wait about 30 minutes at the bar. We sat at the bar and found the service to be excellent. The barman was helpful and happy for us to sample wines to make sure we were happy. 5 minutes later we were at a table and getting excellent service from our lovely waitress. The food was just simple yet fantastically flavoured Italian cuisine. They didn't do anything amazing they just did everything really well. It was reasonably priced and we had such a great meal and night that we went back a couple of nights later.

By far the best Italian food in San Diego

By Blonditraveler |

I now visit once a week. the atmosphere is fresh and friendly. The owners Marco and Stephano are always in house to make certain your dining experience is exceptional. The freash past and bread are to die for and the cappucino and desserts are authentically delicious. a MUST try!

The place to come to for homemade pastas aced, so as for extra when you order. Service is attentive

By Neil R |

Great homemade pasta dishes with both cream and red sauce. Anything with porcinis is great. So is the lasagna, ravioli, and eggplant Parmesan. They also have meat dishes like chicken Parmesan and veal saltimboca and a nice variety of wines by the glass and bottle. The atmosphere is rustic and it can get a little noisy at the height of the dinner service. My only complaint is that the pasta can be a bit undersauced so ask for extra when you order. Portions are huge, by the way, so you can have leftovers the next day.

Possibly best Italian food I’ve eaten (& I’ve eaten a lot )

By Gilli-con-carne |

Just arrived in San Diego after a trip from Venice , found this just round the corner from out Airbnb, as we looked at the menu outside , an Italian lady recommended it as “authentic Italian “ & it was. We were there at about 2pm and it was fairly quiet apart from a table of ladies I think were from “ the real housewives of San Diego “ we were greeted warmly by staff & our server Jacob explained everything about the menu . Prices were cheap compared to Venice (still can’t believe wine is so expensive here ) lovely merlot $7 main inc starter salad & bread $15:95 for possibly the best fruits de mar squid ink pasta I’ve ever had , perfectly cooked & my husbands carbonara was even better than I make . Best meal we’ve had in a week in California & really genuine friendly service .Sadly too full from lunch to go back tonight but will be back over the weekend

Fabulous dinner in San Diego

By Asasa999 |

Just enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Piacere Mio! We had pasta, salads, carpaccio and 2 different wines. All fabulous. Service was great, very friendly and accommodating. Nicely seated outside though no disturbance from the street. One of best Italian experience so far in CA.

Oh Italia <3

By ohanatravelers |

LOVE the food, authentic, scrumptious Italian food. LOVE the people! You feel the true hospitality of Italy while here. Been here twice for a nice dinner and came a week later with a party of 10 for SDSU Graduation. Service is always perfectly attentive, warm and genuine and the food is all delicious. House made pastas, cooked to perfection and sauces I dream about! Not to mention, very reasonable pricing. We will be returning again and again.

Ample, Simple, and Delicious

By spaventa |

We walked into Piacere Mio on a Friday evening around 7ish. The hostess found us a table for three. I ordered the house salad with lots of arugula, olives, small tomatoes and a lemon vinaigrette. Very tasty! Then my wife and I split a pasta dish of pappardelle with scallops and mushrooms. Certainly enough for two adults. Our daughter, who must eat a very restricted diet, ordered a large piece of swordfish and a salad prepared to her direction. No problem! Everything was delicious. The service was attentive and prompt. The outside seating a tad quieter than inside and so more to my liking. I would recommend this trattoria for excellent pasta dishes and salads. Oh, and the wine was reasonable and just great.

Outstanding

By SB |

Every dish was fresh and delicious, from calamari to fish in butter sauce to different pastas in different sauces to creamy panna cotta. Wines were delicious and reasonably priced. Service was attentive and personal. It’s a small and cozy place, reservations definitely advised.

"I'm Not Afraid"

By Bkirkatl |

My wife and I recently visited my son in San Diego and tried this restaurant in the neighborhood where he lives. As we entered I noticed that the Tripadvisor sticker was prominently displayed next to the front door. After being seated and while we were placing our order for wine, I told our server, Manuela, that I was a contributor to Tripadvisor. (don't judge me, you've probably done it). Her response..."I'm not afraid". Assuming that meant the food would be great no matter what we ordered, we ordered several tasty looking Italian dishes. After the meal and especially after dessert, I could see why she had no fear as everything was perfect. And the portion sizes were large enough to warrant doggie bags. Did I mention that dessert was great? Made in house Tiramisu was probably the best I have ever had. It was split three ways and was enough for everyone. Give the place a try and you will not be disappointed.

Great Italian food!

By Keriaworth |

My husband and I have been here twice and both times have been fantastic. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting and the food is delicious. The special artichoke appetizer is fantastic. This time I got the cioppino and it was very good. Lots of seafood and the broth was light and flavorful. My husband got the the beef special and the meat was tender and he ate every bite. Our friend got the spinach ravioli and it was filling and very flavorful. We all got a dessert as well. Two creme brûlées and one tiramisu. The creme brûlée was very creamy and the top was perfectly crusted. The tiramisu was light and fluffy. All in all, another fantastic meal. Do stop by if you want some wonderfully authentic Italian food.

Cozy and Delicious!

By Lauren |

We made a reservation at Piacere Mio before a show at the Observatory and had an absolutely amazing meal. The ambiance is so cozy and wonderful. We love the homey vibe and the brick walls. The service was wonderful! Our waitress was so sweet and attentive, we asked for recommendations and she was super on point. Everything was delicious! We started with the caesar salad and the Super Tuscan red which were both awesome. I had the make your own pasta, the tagliatelle pasta with the funghi mushroom sauce. Amazing! The portion was huge and the homemade pasta was cooked to perfection. The sauce was perfect. My husband told her he likes everything and to order for him, she chose a seafood pasta that he said was amazing. Ample seafood and all cooked to perfection! The sauce was an herbaceous red sauce that was light and rich at the same time. Perfect for dipping bread. We finished the meal with a shared glass of port wine and the tiramisu. Yum! This meal was so satisfying and we left happy and content! Overall everything was awesome, zero complaints. We will be back!

The BEST

By Johnny Trekkie |

After all my years eating here, how have I not written about San Diego's best Italian restaurant? The pasta is made fresh. Most of the staff is Italian, and incredibly charming, and good looking! The interior can get crowded on a busy night, but adds to the warm, lively ambiance as if you're in someone's home having a big dinner party. $15 Nuziale...did they make that word up? Half your pasta will be in the fresh and fragrant basil pesto, the other half in their signature secret tomato sauce. Sounds like a weird combo, but its actually really good! $16.50 Funghi...the best mushroom pasta sauce! Creamy, savory, and that lovely aroma of mushrooms. $19.50 Taglierini Neri Al Frutti Di Mare...the best seafood pasta dish in San Diego! On top of their house made squid ink pasta is a plethora of fresh clams, mussels, calamari, and shrimp, all simmering in a delightful white wine marinara sauce. $24 Osso Bucco...not always available, get it when you can! A huge, tasty and tender braised pork shank served with golden risotto and vegetables. My favorite!

Not the spot for kids

By Calgary_guy_yyc |

I'll start this off by saying we were passing by, and the kids were starving and cranky, so that's why we were here. Probably a whole different expereince for an adult meal. Firstly, there was nothing on the menu that I thought my kids would like, so we discussed witht he waitress bringing out some plain noodles for the kids. she clarified that we wanted no oil and no butter, and I thought we were good to go. It came out swimming in olive oil. Kids wouldn't touch it. Also, the tables have candles on them. My kids did their best to burn the place down. If you were at the table beside us, I'm sorry. I really liked my Spinach and olive ravioli, so I have no doubt that the food is very good for adults. Overall, It's my fault for bringing little kids into a "nicer" restaurant, but we were hungry and just happened to be driving by. I hope next time I'm in San Diego, I can try this place out under better curcumstances.

Amazing food and friendly, knowledgeable, quick service.

By Gail0922 |

Busy Saturday night, but they got the 3 of us right in and the service was great. Waitress suggested a wine suited to our tastes, only $22 a bottle for a lovely Italian Pinot Noir. The food is amazing. Difficult to choose what to order because everything sounded fabulous. I'm sure there isn't a bad item on the menu. Generous portions, tasty appetizers, and nice decor. They've got the whole package and this cozy neighborhood place. We loved everything about it, can't wait to go back and try another dish.

delizioso

This restaurant serves fresh pasta with fresh ingredients--seafood, meat, vegetarian, gluten free, etc. etc. Its sauces are amazing. The location is wonderful. Customer service is very friendly.

Outstanding meal

By Memphis Hotel Guy |

Overall really special place. Loved that they took reservations. A neighborhood gem of a spot. Fresh pasta - nice portions and very fair pricing. Handsome, young crowd. Solid service backed by an owner/manager who swung by twice to insure all was smooth - and it was Very highly recommended!

Food was good, service slow, watch you check for accuracy!

By James A |

June 18, 2017; We stopped in for take out and order their bean soup. As we waited for the order I happen to glance at the menu and noticed that the soup we had just paid $8.00 for was $6.50 on the regular menu. I then questioned the server if there was a $1.50 charge for 'take out' and she said no. So I ask why we were charged more than the posted menu price and she pulled out a menu for the Holiday and the soup was $8.00 and I questioned why and what was the holiday? She stated it was Father's day and I stated Father's day was not a recognized holiday. She asked the manager about the difference and he said it was $6.50 and not $8.00. The soup was good, the service was very slow in getting the soup and the three cooks in the open kitchen were just standing there looking out at the crowd as we were waiting. All I can say is review your check for accuracy before paying. If anything a "Father day", HOLIDAY menu should be less money rather than more money. Buyer beware.......

A moderately sized neighborhood restaurant that draws from everywhere

By drjj |

We have been very happy with this place. Mi piace motto! The pasta dishes are very well prepared. The entree selections provide some excellent choices, as well. The mixed seafood entree really stood out for us. We recently took family members here on a visit who travel around the world frequently. They eat out nearly every night in Silicon Valley (aka Santa Clara County) and they both were highly pleased with their choices here. Parking is on the street and can be a bit tricky if you don't like to walk, but we've never had any trouble, though we usually go on a weeknight between 5:30 and 6:30. Reservations are recommended as it can get pretty busy on any night. Servers are personable and knowledgeable. Some are native Italian speakers. My wife says it is a nice cozy place to go. Highly recommend for the food.

Food like you get in Italy

By Linda B |

I'm not only Italian-American. I learned to make pasta from my grandmother and went to a week of cooking school in Bologna. I was skeptical when a friend wanted to go to Piacere Mio. But this is food you could be served in Italy. The antipasto of cheese and meat is very high quality and includes an onion jam that will knock your socks off. I had spaghetti alla carbonara made with angel hair pasta. As good as I had in Umbria! I've not ordered another pasta on return trips because I love it so much. The pasta and bread are made fresh in house. The only thing that keeps me from eating there every night is that I would double my weight in a year. Did I mention that it's very reasonable? Either try this place or move to Italy. Molto delicioso.

Saturday Lunch

By Carol C |

We went to the new Del Sur location today. The plaza there is quite nice, and the restaurant had both indoor and outdoor seating options. We sat inside, and I am sorry to say there were some fruit flies and flies that were bothersome. Now, the food and service, they were both great. We got bread and water straight away, and the bread was fresh and the bread was hot. It looks like there is a pizza oven off the back patio, and I would have confirmed if I had wanted pizza, but I didn't this time. Our server gave us the specials which sounded great, but we chose the carbonara and chicken piccata off the menu and both selections were fantastic. Very generous lunch portions to be sure. Please go and enjoy. Also, the interior was very nice, some tables have cushioned benches with pillows which was nice, high ceilings, wood trims and clean. We will go again for certain.

Still Excellent a year later...

Great neighborhood Italian Restaurant that continues to serve excellent pasta dishes. Be sure to try the Orecchiette i(a classic Italian pasta and breadcrumb dish).

Home Made Noodles, Need I Say More

This is a fabulous treasure in the heart of South Park. You will get an abundance of food and excellent service. It's a not a big place, so plan early and stay late, the desserts are to die for, too! My husband and I go over and over because their simply isn't an Italian restaurant with its charm or authenticity.

Absolutely delicious

By MD |

We each had an incredibly authentic Italian pasta dish. The service was excellent, very accommodating. The restaurant was very lively with good atmosphere.

Great atmosphere and food

Had the pasta and ravioli and they were all great dishes. Nice staff and waiters and loved hearing them speak Italian. Loved being able to watch them cook in the kitchen. Wood fire oven and nice patio

Really Well Done Italian in South Park

By Ray Shaheen |

This quaint, but noisy, and popular place is well worth a visit for generous portions of Italian classics. The neighborhood has many dining options, but locals love this kid-friendly trattoria. Service was somewhat patronizing, and the waiters were more into hanging together, rather than bonding with patrons, or even inquiring about questions.

incredibly great Italian food at more than reasonable prices

By SNG56 |

Staying t an airbnb around the corner and this place was recommended by our hosts. Checked out reviews and decided to give it a go. Made reservations which I think is always showing some respect for a place. Upon arrival at 6:30 on a Thursday, the joint was jumping as they say. Being older, and not too keen on noise, we asked to sit t an outside table which turned out to be perfect. ordered the artichoke special followed by the beef involtini special and the papardelle with mushroom sauce. Good bread with lentil infused olive oil was offered as we waited for our food. Artuchikes were great, better than expected. Pasta and beef entrees were served. At first glance it was obvious to me that my pappardelle, which should be a very wide cut of pasta, was instead, tagliatelli. No prob;em, it was all delicious but have a thing for pappardelle so was a wee bit disappointed. Husband's beef was outstanding as were the vegetables an potatoes tht accompanied it. I mentioned the pasta cut to the waiter who seemed surprised but cam eback to offer apologies saying I was right the cut should have been different. as consolation we got a delicious cannoli to share. With a glass of wine, the bill was $55 before tip ( and I gave a hefty 20%). Service was terrific, food was equally delicious. Not in the touristy area, but a wonderful restaurant if you are in the South Park neighborhood.

Authentic Italian

By cookincrazy2 |

My daughter and I stayed in San Diego for a couple of days and found this restaurant. We are glad we did. It is truly an authentic Italian restaurant. The food was wonderful and reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly and helpful with the food choice and wine choice. We were very pleased with everything. We didn't get to go back like we wanted to, but if we ever get back there we will definitely visit them again.

Fantastico!

By Normacha |

Went for dinner with friends, happy to see the place packed with a variety of guests, old, young, couples and families. For me, the ambiance and attention to detail makes this one of the few "go to" Italian places in town, let's face it, good Italian food is hard to find outside of Italy and America's Finest is not the exception even with the myriad of fine Italian establishments in town. However, if you want to be transported to a charming and truly authentic Italian dinning experience, with a delicious variety of menu offerings, fine wine, exquisite breads and desserts, with impeccable service then this is the place.

Absolutely Wonderful

Enjoyed everything about the experience. Food was great and the portions were generous. Staff were polite and helpful. Get there early and make a reservation.

ITALY IN SAN DIEGO

By kinyon g |

After having enjoyed 30+ trips to Italy, I can honestly say this is the best Italian food in California! The recipes are authentic, properly prepared and graciously served. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and eager to please. The pasta is to die for, especially the filled pastas. Try it. You’ll be back. Guaranteed.

Fabulous Italian food

By Pmstein |

Try their delicious homemade pasta, beautiful yummy artichoke appetizer, reasonable prices and happy hour treats. A very charming cafe in a charming neighborhood.

Like in Italy

By Manuel M |

We visited the restaurant after someone local recommended it. The place is very nice with a nice atmosphere. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. Their dish selection is great with plenty of options to choose from. The artichokes with cheese are out of this world. And they have a wide variety of wines. At the end the chef surprised us with a Nutella pie, just amazing. Highly recommended

a great addition to South Park

By ocngrl |

We are thrilled at the transformation our favorite café has made. Piacera Mio has turned into a wonderful restaurant that I know we will return to again and again. The atmosphere is delightful, bright, airy and fresh. The staff was friendly, the service was perfect, and the food was delicious. We had a Caesar salad, homemade ravioli and another dish with little ear shaped pasta. We also had the chocolate tiramisu and a nice bottle of chianti. South Park is very lucky to have this great gem.

Best pasta in town

By Lynnbrownstone |

This restaurant has the best pasta, and homemade at that. Service is impeccably friendly. The neighborhood location is wonderful.

Fresh and very fine Italian food.

By artonthego |

The best fresh and authentic Italian food that I have eaten since Italy last year. I wish I could eat there every night but I live in Florida and the restaurant is in a very nice neighborhood in San Diego.

Excellent fresh pasta

By MindStorm |

I had the ravioli con carne, and my wife had pasta bolognese. Both were excellent, as was the service. Definitely a place to return to!

Wonderful food and service

By Georgiarover |

I love this place! The food is delicious, prepared with care and presented with pride. It's what every small, individually-owned restaurant should be. Attractively-furnished but not cluttered. Reminds me of eating in another country - the wait-staff definitely cares whether you've had a fine experience. After having lunch here, I feel like I've been pampered and my taste-buds have been delighted. Had the salmon-stuffed ravioli last visit - yum! Not a $5 special sort of place, though. So if you're not willing to spend at least $12 on your meal, go elsewhere.

Great Atmosphere!

By Steven G |

So I came here by myself to try this place after being recommended from a local friend and all I can say is wow! I was blown away, the selections on the menu are great and there is much variety to be chosen from that are authentic Italian. I had just recently came back from a trip to Italy and this place does it Justice for being back in the States. Excellent service from the Waitress I had that answered all of my questions & also gave me a little background of the story of the Restaurant. Highly Recommend Coming Here!

Caring staff, good value, amazing Spag Carbonnera

By Dra W |

Great waiters in a nice ambiance serving top notch Italian at a price reasonable for the quality of the food. It is not a low price Italian place but the value/quality mix was good enough that there were a few families with kids in the early evening... The noise level was modest and I was able to talk with my senior citizen parents. I will return.

A South Park delight.

By Mytravelbucket |

Piacere Mio is a very nice quaint Italian restaurant . Our group visited for a late lunch and we thoroughly enjoyed our orders. The wine was smooth, the salads fresh and crispy. I ordered the Lasagne Alla Bolognese. The serving was enough for two. I was surprised at the number of pasta layers, I counted ten. The pasta was al dente but I would have enjoyed more sauce and more cheese. Others in my group enjoyed the Spaghetti Carbonara which was prepared perfectly. Creamy. For dessert we indulged in Pannacotta with fresh fruit and a Creme Brûlée. Both enjoyed with a fresh cup of coffee which was the perfect way to end the meal. Our group plans to return and try different plates. The service was very friendly.

Eccellent!

By Bob L |

We frequent here often and every dish we try is beyond good. The atmosphere is great, pricing is very reasonable and staff are superb. The owners make sure you feel welcome and they've brought over Italian dishes we normally aren't lucky enough to get in the U.S. Don't miss this place, it's a must for dining in San Diego

Authentic Italian in South Park

By James D |

Not only is the food amazing, the staff is friendly. They make their own pasta...try any of the ravioli, or if they have the “wild boar” bolognese as a special. The best I’ve had outside of Italy. The calamari appetizer, or the stuffed eggplant...omg.

From authentic cafe to chic authentic restaurant - WONDERFUL!

By SanDiegoGuy1 |

The newly redesigned chic restaurant and selective menu is MERAVIGLIOSO! It was my favorite when it was a café. Now it has been redesigned (by Los Angeles-based Italian designer, Mariapaola Miele) into a visual and culinary gem you might find in the Trastevere area of Rome or the Navigli area of Milan. Owners Stefano (from Genoa) and Marco (from Rome) brought in Chef Giuseppe (from Naples). Their collaboration has produced tasty Italian-fusion menu items which ARE NOT over-salted, over-fatted, or over-sweetened like some of the other Italian-branded but not authentic cuisine. The taste of the individual ingredients is preserved! I don't eat desserts often, but I have found myself "hooked" on their panna-cotta and chocolate tiramisu offerings. I award a hearty BRAVO to Stefano and Marco's creative re-inventions!

Perfect Neighborhood Spot

By Megan L |

Nestled in the neighborhood of South Park, Piacere Mio is a charming, delicious Italian spot that really elevates this neighborhood. Filled with local families and friends, this place is relatively small (hint: only 4 to 5 seats at the bar, though the patio seating is an extra bonus), but seems to turnover guests quickly at a while still maintaining high quality service and not making you feel rushed at all. The pastas are made in-house and the "build your own pasta dish" side of the menu is fun. My meat-loving father raved about his pork chop and we all agreed the penna pasta with shrimp dish was the favorite of the night. The only critique we had is if you order the pasta with pesto, you have to REALLY love pesto because there's a whole lot of it. The food, service, atmosphere, everything is really, really lovely and perfect for a family gathering, friends night out, date night, whatever! Also, the wine has some really affordable and delicious choices, really highlighting Chianti's from the red side! Buon appetito!

Panna cotta

By baubau_13 |

I went to this restaurant just to have some sweets and coffee, and I saw in the menu that they ha "panna cotta". I said to my friend "I wonder if it is the real thing like in Milan, where I came from". A lady sitting next to us said:" Si, Si è buona". Marco , the owner" came and greeted us in Italian of course, and he assured me that it was original panna cotta. The portion was for two, hower I ate it all and it was excellent. Next time (Iwas leaving the next day) in San Diego I will go there for dinner! I hope they keep it as it is, really Italian.

Great Food & Wonderful Service!

By Cynthia L |

It was our first visit there and we will definitely be returning. All of their wait staff were excellent (even if it wasn't their table they were eyeing the room to see if anyone needed anything - that's exceptional service)! The food was very, very good and we were all pleased with our choices. I have to say the tiramisu was excellent! As others have mentioned, it does get noisy but that seems to be a given any more. Can't wait to try it again!

Neighborhood Italian Restaurant w Great Service & Good Eats.

By NGDRio |

Visited South Park & decided to drop in at 5:30pm without a reservation. We were welcomed in by a friendly Italian boy band looking staff. We started with the Prosciutto & Burrata which was delicious, a bottle of reasonably priced Chianti Classico Reserva & upon the waiter’s suggestion, split the Orechiette. Good size portion to share for 2. Very good service. Did’t feel rushed for a change.

Excellent Italian food and atmosphere

By MNPeach |

My family recently had dinner at Piacere Mio in South Park. We had really excellent service. Our waiters were very helpful and attentive. I had orecchiette con salsiccia, which I enjoyed very much. The wine and beer choices were varied and appropriately priced.

Friendly Neighborhood Place with Excellent Food

By AndoverDan |

The staff at this South Park neighborhood place was beyond friendly, and as first time patrons we were treated as honored guests. Both of our pasta dishes were excellent, with plenty left over for the next day. They perfectly cooked the gluten free pasta to al dente, which few restaurants do. Highly recommended!

This is one of the best Italian restaurants in San Diego. In a cute, bustling neighborhood. Indoor and outdoor seating. Excellent food and very authentic. The service is top notch!

Amazing dinner!

Had the best dinner. Giuseppe and Jacob took the best care of us. Food was amazing. We got the carbonara and eggplant raviolis. Wine, food, and dessert was the best. Already ready to go back to San Diego to eat here again!

You have to go

By docrob01 |

We had never been to San Diego. We just happened to find this on a map search, and it was such a great find. Even though they were busy, they were able to accommodate our group of nine in about 15 minutes. The atmosphere is lively and fun. Every single employee genuinely seemed to enjoy working there. The food was great. Service was surprisingly fast, considering how busy they were. We were thoroughly impressed (and full) after the experience. I wish I had had more time to enjoy the wine and maybe a dessert. Don’t miss this place for a great dining experience.

Excellent Quality, Large Plates

By Elaine F |

I brought my mother here for her birthday and we were not disappointed. DID she LOVE it? I think she really liked it. For me I really liked it too. We made reservations via Yelp and when we got there (we were seated just about the time our reservation was planned for (given we did arrive early so there was some waiting that's fine). I asked to go to the bathroom as we waited and it was really loud/stuffy inside so ask if you can sit outside. We ordered 2 glasses of wine: Montepulciano and a sparkling red each 7.50 I ordered the Ravioli Di Salmone $17.00 (really good but also heavy) and my mom ordered the Pollo alla Parmigiana $18.00. She really liked the chicken but prefers spaghetti rather than linguini (which it's typically served with linguini) I had written on the Yelp reservation that it was my mom's birthday and to bring out a birthday dessert. They brought out their chocolate cheesecake free of charge. Overall would return, but not as often as other italian restaurants

Mediocrity at its finest. Not a repeatable experience,

By Kevin J |

This is a very overhyped place. I was really excited by the 4.5 star ratings on Yelp and Trip Advisor. Unfortunately this place does not live up to it in reality: 2/5 stars for service. Horribly understaffed. The busboys reach awkwardly (disrupting your evening) to fill waters. They deliver food to wrong tables. When you get your food they don’t know who ordered what. They deliver dirty spoons for dessert. They didn’t offer us Parmesan or pepper for our meals, but did for everyone else. Overall the service is a disaster (to put it very nicely). 1/5 stars for environment. It’s nice enough inside, but here’s the rub: when someone decides they need to have a smoke, they go outside and somehow the smoke fills the restaurant and that’s all you smell. Also the tables are too small for all the plates they give you. 3/5 stars food quality. The food initially “looks great”. But once you taste it, it is very bland and flavorless. The best dish is the calamari. The worst dish is the eggplant Parmesan. 2/5 stars for price. You’re paying too much to come here. I would rather go to bucco de beppo and eat their bad food at those high prices then come back here again. Overall not coming back. Try at your own risk.

Won’t go here again

By thestevebloom |

We have eaten here several times and sad to say we will not go there again. The food is typically good but it is consistently loud and hot inside (it was low 60’s outside). The straw that broke the camel’s back tonight was that when I got our bill for 6 people, it included 2 bottles of wine. I am very certain that we only drank 1 bottle of wine (3 glasses & 3 very small tasters were poured), & when I asked the waiter, he said he opened a 2nd bottle. I questioned him on this because he never had me sample the 2nd bottle before pouring it, & he claims he had my son test it. My son says he never received a sample; the waiter gave him a full pour & that was the only glass he had tonight. The waiter’s “math” did not add up to anywhere close to 2 bottles of wine being served to our table. And to add further insult, the gratuity was added to our bill by the waiter, so I tipped based on an additional bottle of wine that we did not drink! And when I discussed our disagreement with the Hostess, she did not take me seriously & said “next time we will take really good care of you”. I told her there will be no next time! There are plenty of good Italian restaurants in San Diego, we do not need to spend our money here where they make no attempt to resolve my concern.

Amazing food and service.

Piacere Mia was phenomenal! The food was authentic Italian with homemade pasta, sauces and delicious calamari. It wasn’t the least bit greasy. The service was outstanding and everyone made us feel like we mattered. We will be back some day!

fresh Italian food

We enjoyed the seafood ingredients. The food is refreshing with some innovation. Dessert is marvelous. Service is wonderful.

Excellent food

Food and customer service was excellent. I tried the beef ravioli and can honestly say I will go back to order this delicious meal. I have to agree that place is small, so it does get a little crowded/loud. If you don’t mind the noise, the food and service will definitely have you go back to try it again.

terrific neighborhood Italian bistro

By Kevin O |

I live in South Park neighborhood and this has become our go to local bistro. The food is always very good and the service friendly and warm. Always ask about the specials, you won't be disappointed. And we always have leftovers. Nice and not too expensive wine list and in addition some good local beers on tap. highlyrecommend it for a good dinner out at local gem.

Want to eat pasta in Italy? Go to Piacere Mio

By Mr_TJK |

Like many others have pointed out... this is a serious Buona Forchetta / Bencotto competitor ... and very authentic Italian food, not your corner diner making Italian food by non-Italians. And those two spots are at the top of my personal list, being an Italian food junky, and I might put this at the top or equal shares of the three. Piacere makes their pasta right there, you can see the pasta rollers from the bar. The bread is perfectly chewy and gummy... awesome with the olive oil given Panchetta appetizer delighted Bolognese meat sauce with tagliatelle pasta...maybe the best combo of the two I have ever had. And I've had me some meat sauce a million times all over the world, including many towns in Italy. It beats out Bencotto's version, which I have held as the highest regard. Tiramisu dessert.... in a bowl...like yogurt....amazing $20 for a bottle of medium-cost-level Italian wine is insane compared to most restaurants that charge $40-50 minimum. This is how wine sales should be done. Not gouging. Overall...amazing, especially for the cost. $14 main courses and $20 wine bottles will have me back alone, never mind the fact the food is phenomenal. Congrats to the Piacere team on a great little restaurant with cool decor and amazing food.

Great restaurant

Nice, small, cute Italian restaurant. Love it!! Great service and good food! Price are more than reasonable.

The Best authentic Italian Pasta and more.

By absolute2 |

This neighborhood favorite Italian Restaurant is a slice of heaven and a true taste of Italy. I have never had such wonderful different lasagnas and raviolis anywhere that are as tasty. In addition the friendly atmosphere makes you feel as if you know the waiters and chefs personally. The wait staff is always so welcoming, efficient , friendly and knowledgeable. I can’t get past the delicious bread served with olive oil and lentils, the excellent salads and the incredible pastas to try the entrees. All of which look spectacular, by the way. I’m a pescatarian so I just love all the vegetarian pastas. The mushroom sauce is outstanding and best anywhere. The pesto lasagna with potato and green beans blew me away. There are also gluten free pasta options. I’ve yet to try but have heard great things. The desserts are homemade and amazing!! The Panna cotta is a favorite here although they are all delicious. Go to Piacere Mio. You won’t regret it. I could eat here everyday.

Feels like Italy

I am writing this review about the new location of Piacere Mio which is located in the Del Sur Town Center in San Diego. It has only been opened a short while and already has a wonderful reputation. Three friends separately recommended the restaurant and a friend who had been there previously and I went for dinner. We arrived around 5:30 and sat on the lovely patio and by 7:00 p.m. the whole restaurant was busy. The pasta is very fresh and bright with wonderful flavors and the menu is very extensive. The service was excellent and the owners walk around and talk to the customers which makes you appreciate the meal even more. I had Spaghetti Amatriciana and my friend had Spaghetti with Clams and both were delicious. The Italian wine was very good at a reasonable price so all in all the dinner was excellent. The restaurant also takes reservations which would be necessary on a weekend.

Good food, large portions, great pasta

By octoberitaly2 |

Went to this gem due to recommendation of Uber driver. Make a reservation as line out the door. Small house. Crowded with high noise level. Excellent food, large portions. Specials change daily. Nice wines. Burrata and prosciutto appetizer good. Had eggplant on it, most of our group was good with that. Ordered gnocchi with pesto from the build your own pasta section, as well as swordfish, a pasta with pesto side, and short rib with pasta. These were all great and huge portions. We did not really like the spinach ravioli and the risotto. The risotto was a special for the day- sausage peas and mushrooms. It had a layer of cheese on the top and tasted just like a pizza. Which was no what we ordered. There was none of the creaminess of the arborio rice, so we did not really like it. Would not order again. Overall a great space. Again portions are absolutely huge. Share or be ready to bring leftovers home

Best Meal Ever!

By newyorker1953 |

I am a business traveler and have eaten in restaurants all over the US and mainly up and down the west coast. This has got to be one of the best meals I have eaten. Oso bucco was tender and flavorful. Desert is made in house and was divine (Nutella cheesecake!). Cappuccino was fine. Service was very good. Small neighborhood Italian restaurant that is a great find. I will go back the next time I am in SD.

WOW, Italian at its best

By Kim R |

We tried this little neighborhood restaurant and we were so impressed. The 6 of us had 6 different plates and couldn't decide which was best as it was all so good. Forget Little Italy, this food was better than any we tasted down there and on par with food in Florence and Rome. We will be back again. The portions were huge and full of flavor. For dessert we tried the chocolate cheesecake, the cannoli and the tierra mi su, The cheesecake was the hands down winner, but they were all tremendous. Make a reservation as this is a popular spot. We will be back.

Unexpected true Italian restaurant in the San Diego Area

By stsmailer |

I was in San Diego with my family about a week and had the chance to discover this Italian restaurant through tripadvisor. It is not in an obvious downtown area rather in a shopping center district and not so visible. Anyhow, the restaurant is run by Italians who kept a consistent and pleasant connection to the Italian way of cooking and presenting dishes. Well-selected raw materials and ingredients helped them to serve excellent dishes. After the first time we were always tempted to go back there as we did three times in six days. If you want to eat real Italian food do not miss this opportunity!

Outstandingly fresh food

By Barbara B |

Neighborhood gem, family-owned in the South Park area. Try the artichoke appetizer! Octopus appetizer! My friend had the fish of gbe day: 2 giant pieces of swordfish. Homemade pasta, any variety, just choose your sauce! I was only in San Diego a few days, wanted to go back. Unusual Austrian white wine on wine list, pretty impressive. The owners are paying attention!

Bellissimo

By karen f |

Authentic Italian cuisine that is truly superb . We all had something different and we're sure our entrée was " the best" .they were very accommodating altering the sauce for my husband who preferred a white wine sauce with his ink squid pasta dish. Vegetarian entrées are available . If you are a carpaccio fan , there's is not to be missed. Service was outstanding. this family owned restaurant tranports you to italy.

Excellent and efficient

By Frank v |

This restaurant is very popular and it’s not hard to see why! Wonderful selection of items to choose from on the menu. We chose to start with Caprese. Great plating. The squid ink taglierini was generous and shellfish abundant. The home made ravioli di magro burro was oh so rich and delicious. Finally, the scalloppine Al Marsala was a generous portion. Lots of vegetables to accompany the pork smothered in a rich creamy mushroom sauce. Espresso and tiramisu concluded our dinner - whew! Super efficient service, with none of it intrusive! Highly recommended!

Sunday Dinner

By Roxanna C |

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon I decided to have an early dinner at Piacere Mio located in the quaint neighborhood of South Park. The papparedelle was fresh, the bolognese meaty.

Pasta heaven

By sullivan1212 |

We walked in at their opening time on a Monday night. Prices were about right for proper house made pasta. Their were some good wine choices at very fair prices. After about forty minutes the restaurant was full. Our pastas were excellent in both taste and quantity. Their bread needed an improvement. Crispy is vital for an Italian table. $22 for a good Italian wine was a revelation. As we left the line to get in did block the exit. Reservations are important.

A true Italan gem

By Ross R |

This is a local South Park restaurant...but the food is as good as in Sicilia. The staff are Italian and exude the warmth that you find there. And the food is fantastic. The pasta a la Norma is the best that I have eaten outside of Italy. The veal Saltimbocca is mouth watering. My wife generally stuck to fish or seafood and was never disappointed. The prices are inexpensive for the quality of the food and the wine list is very fairly priced and features good accompaniment to the food. We never wanted to fight the crowds at Happy Hour, so though it was said to be good, we never went. But we had dinner there very often..

Good Italian food

Spring Break trip for my daughter and me. We decided to eat here for our last night in San Diego. Cute little restaurant with great food. The service was also very good...quick and efficient without feeling rushed. The create your own pasta dish was a hit with my daughter and was steaming hot from start to finish.

Best Italian in town!

This is my favorite Italian restaurant in San Diego! I've been here many time and it's always a great experience! they have a really good choice of appetizer.. (prosciutto and barrata and octopus with potatoes are my favorite )and amazing home made pasta.. try the special pappardelle with porcini and scallops... the service is always top.. they really make your night!

Great choices, big portions

By Neil R |

We went back to the Fern Street location after many visits to 4s Ranch, and were very happy with our choice (for a Birthday meal). Staff is friendly and kitchen is accommodating; eg substitute sausage for chicken). Service is quick and professional (except for clearing plates before everyone was finished). Homemade pastas are delicious as are various sauces and proteins. Prices are appropriate especially when you’ll have leftovers for another dinner.

Fantastic!!!

By sinatra918 |

This is the best Italian food I have had in San Diego. The staff is welcoming and attentive. The food is perfection. Homemade pasta cooked to perfection. Reasonable prices. Mama Mia! Piacere Mio is a hidden gem in South Park.

This may be ok, but not the Del Sol one

By John W |

Couldn't find a listing for the Piacero Mio Del Sol, so am using this one. That one was disappointing. Only one of the five in our party got anything decent. The pizza was undercooked with thin slices of salami and dots of cheese. The tortellini with meat and mushrooms was a soggy mess. The Lasagna was plain as day. For the price, you would expect something better. When we hesitated in placing our order, the server left and didn't come back for about 10 minutes.

Fantastic pasta and fantastic prices!

By Brandy R |

My boyfriend and I decided to try this place when we realized they make their own pasta. I have nothing but great reviews! They brought yummy bread while we waited and pour huge glasses of wine. Bottles ranged from mid $20’s and up which I think it really reasonable! For food we ordered the calamari, the Gorgonzola, sausage gnocchi special and the cheese stuffed meatballs and spaghetti. Staff was really sweet and the ambiance was modern but Italian. We loved the place!

It takes a lot to get a 5 star rating from me!

By maringfro |

We went here for New Year's Eve dinner and were not disappointed. This restaurant has been in South Park for a year and a half and we just learned about it. As I already said, it takes a lot to get a five-star rating from me! My main dish was absolutely delicious.! I had the veal scaloppine and it was perfect - the sauce was perfect as was the veal and prosciutto. I opted for pasta instead of veggies and it went real well with the sauce. The serving was very generous. Reasonably priced, too. The waiters all seem to be Italian and are very friendly and throw a lot of Italian into their interaction with guests. Made me really feel like I was in Italy. We wanted tiramisu for dessert but it was all gone. (Had pistachio gelato instead - a very generous serving. It didn't have the full pistachio flavor I was hoping for nor the texture of gelato I expected but it was still good). The indoor part of the restaurant is somewhat small and noisy but we ate on a closed in patio and that worked well. I will definitely go back to try more dishes on their menu.
