We’ve been coming since they opened years ago and we always leave happy. Delicious food and excellent service. The vibe is airy and fun. Our whole family loves this restaurant.

PIazza 1909 is located in a nice converted house on Fay avenue, quite near the always packed Cottage. They serve good italian food and have their hand made pasta as a signature. I enjoyed my burrata appertizer and seafood pasta special. The service is pretty good. Its a nice Italian restaruant that I would not mind going back again.

My wife and I and our 13 year old son have eaten several times at Piazza 1909. The food is prepared by Chef Stefano Ceresoli. His creations are made with LOVE. He sources fresh, local ingredients so there are many specials on the menu. The ambiance is clean & casual with most of the dining outside under the stars. Plenty of heaters if it gets a little chilly. Last night we started with Frittura Mista - Fried Calamari/Baja Shrimp/Zucchini Artichokes/San Marzano Tomato Sauce dish. That was followed by a lobster over black ink linguine for my wife and I ordered Pappardelle di Mare - Pappardelle/Clams/Mussels/Baja Shrimp Wild Salmon/Cherry Tomatoes/Garlic. My son had not one but two main courses last night - ravioli with a delicate butter and sage sauce and gnocchi al pesto - light powder puffs with a basil pesto sauce with pine nuts. All of the food was delicate and delicious and accompanied by a great bottle of Italian wine. They also make homemade pizza's that you can also get "to go". Definitely our #1 choice for Italian in La Jolla.

We had a special Amalfi coast dinner outdoors with great service and weather. The food did not disappoint! We love Italian and the smoked mozzarella in our appetizer was amazing. Thanks for a memorable evening including excellent live music.

We walked by and checked to see if they have a gluten-free pizza. To my surprise they did have gluten free pizza and gluten-free pasta as well. We had the mussels and meatballs as well. Everything was fresh, and amazingly tasty. Would highly recommended. They have a great happy hour. Will Definitely be back

I was staying at the Empress Hotel and went to this place for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and ordered the Speck Panini . There were not many people in the restaurant. It took about 45 minutes to get my Panini. The Panini had one paper thin slice of Italian Ham (Prosciutto) with a couple small slices of Brie, and a mound of Arugula, that looked like it was assembled by a small child. The ham was dried out and crunchy, the Brie was moldy, and there was too much arugula which made it very bitter. It was so bad that I actually spit my food out. I would not recommend this restaurant.

While visiting La Jolla on a October night. We decided to enjoy a small dinner. Pizza was a suggestion and our gps app lead us to Piazza 1009. This was a delicious find. Greeted immediately and we were lucky enough to dine outside. The table was rocky but within seconds an associate came and adjusted the rockiness. We ordered the Margherita and added shrimp. A bottle of Italian Menabrea and 1 cappuccino. Relaxed and filled by our find, the drive back to San Diego was a relaxing time. Oh, and a friendly handshake thank you on leaving.

We visited with a party of ten today and when we arrived the place was not busy We sat it took fifteen minutes for the waiter to arrive, another ten minutes for coffee order and that was the last time we say him Meals came out two at a time and when we were finally served all had eaten and two were still waiting No one offered an apology it was like we were in Rome Food was good service terrible Would not recommend how can you ruin breakfast let one waiter handle fifteen tables

Dinner with my wife. We weren't ravenous, so we split an appetizer and a pizza (but somehow found room for the house special dessert). Our waiter, Carlo, was excellent and service was smooth and efficient even though the place was hopping. Would definitely return/recommend.

The homemade noodle Lasagne, and the Fresh Halibut were outstanding. We had a beautiful dinner, they squeezed us in. They were attentive, pleasant and kind. Great food, service, experience! Buon Appetito to you!

As an Italian on vacation in San Diego I didn't expect to find a restaurant with the same food as the best restaurants in my country. At Piazza 1909, not only is the food excellent, prepared with top-quality ingredients and authentic Italian flavors, but the location is also welcoming , very pleasant, and warm. Where the impeccable and attentive service from the staff makes everything perfect. Thanks to Stefano and Roberta and their staff for making us feel at home here in San Diego. Grazie Mille

I came for lunch of a chilly afternoon. The staff are great and many of them are Italian. I had the ravioli of the day which was spinach and ricotta cheese it was amazing! Even though this place is new it is my favorite Italian restaurant in San Diego. They have an impressive drinks list with many wines and local beers. I definitely recommend Piazza to anyone that is looking for a 5 star meal.

Salads and pizza were all exceptionally well prepared... thin crust pizza Margherita, especially. Outdoor setting was quiet and wait person conscientious. Wonderful experience.

We entertained about 40 family and friends for our son and future daughter in law's wedding in March of 2016. You could not ask for a better experience inclusive of food and service. Roberta and Stefano were great (0wner and husband, chef. Staff were most attentive. The food was inventive and delicious. The atmosphere stupendous. A must visit......

Piazza 1909 is a family friendly restaurant with a tasty and authentic Italian menu. They have private areas for small to medium parties that are very comfortable . We held our team dinner there Friday and everyone had a great time. The hosts were very accommodating and helped to create a diverse menu for the adults and children alike.

We were looking for a different Italian restaurant and found this one. The place was busy and I was impressed how well the entire staff worked together and managed the flow. The food was very good and had an authentic Italian flavor.

We have dined at three great locations with chef Stefano ,and sometimes his menu seems simple but the presentation and cuisine is unmatched in LaJolla and maybe all of San Diego county. He attention to detail whether sauces, plating, hand made pasta, desserts, and now pizza are all over the top...... PS: the server, Guinia[sp], is fun and charming

we stop there often and never with reservations, but Stephano and team always get us a table. Italian wines are great table wines and the Tuscan is the best.

While on a Mother Daughter trip to San Diego we drove to La Jolla on a whim to see the cove. Without a plan while walking around this lovely city we found ourselves in front of Piazza 1909 and decided to have lunch there. What luck! Determined to eat outside despite the chilly temps the patio provided plenty of heat and a great view for people watching. The service was superb and the food fresh and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed a salad, butternut squash soup and the meatball appetizer. Our only regret was not being able to dine here for dinner!

Stumbled on this place during the weekend lunch hour only because there wasn't a line out the door... SO glad we did. We got a table right away on the spacious patio. Marcela was our server, very nice, very attentive. My friend and I took advantage of the Endless Mimosas and shared a Margherita Pizza. The pizza took a while but we enjoyed the patio and sipping on Mimosas. When the pizza arrived, it was hot and tasted great. I would definitely be back my next visit for dinner to try other dishes. Atmosphere: small Italian restaurant with great patio seating. Service: very good. Food: very good.

We were en route to another dinner spot when we saw this beautiful and inviting patio! String lights and soft patio made for the perfect environment. We ordered the Gnocchi Al Pesto, which was perfectly cooked - soft and hot and am awesome fresh pesto flavor. We also had the Salsiccia pizza, served with a spicy oil on the side. YUM! The big pieces of sausage we're so authentic and delicious. I'd highly recommend both of these dishes. Im glad we stopped!!

I would give them more points but pizza with Porcheta was literally tasteles! Spicy oil is everything but not spicy. Pizza was served on the wooden plate which is forbidden in most of the places due to the fact that you can never clean a wooden plate as the ceramic or glass one. It is dangerous to serve food like that!!! Waiters were profwssional. Tiramisu was great!

We came for bottomless mimosas but they don’t tell you that’s it a limit on the mimosas. They told one told table the limit is 6 and they originally told us we could keep drinking when we asked for the bill. If it’s a limit on mimosas that should be stated somewhere. The price on their website doesn’t say it’s a limit at all or a website.

The lasagne and homemade pasta are to-die-for and we really enjoy dining on the patio of this historic La Jolla property. The wine and service are also outstanding, including the owners who work very hard to make this restaurant so special.

My husband I were there recently for dinner ..another fabulous experience. Finally real Italian food that does not swim in sauce and cream. None of that "Alfredo" on the menu! The food is pure and appear simple yet it is complicated to reach such a balance of flavor. Ingredients of extreme quality.

Came for dinner. Food fabulous - fresh, delicious, beautiful presentations, great wine list, and best of all, quiet. Outdoor seating also available.

We live in La Jolla and oftentimes go to Piazza 1909 in La Jolla . For us going to Piazza is like dining in Italy - the food cooked by Stefano is fresh and authentic - and Roberta and Walter and all of the staff make you feel like family. And so when it came time to host the 40th birthday for our daughter and son in law Piazza was our first choice for the party and it was indeed the perfect choice. The location makes it easy for people to mingle. Stefano produced an incredible array of the freshest food . It is hard to know where to start - the pizzas and fruity were cooked fish and came out of the over piping hot. The Pastas and eggplant parmigiana tasted as if we were dining in some of our favorite Italian restaurants in Italy - pasta was brought out as it was cooked - not warmed up. It was all so fresh. And then we had fish chicken and the best sausage one can imagine - homemade of course. Every guest was amazed at the quality of the food and service . Truly it could not have been better. I know that many of our guests have now put Piazza on a must go to list . It is well worth a visit. We could not have been happier.

Had lunch here last week with a friend. What a wonerderful place have a quiet conversation while enjoying an excellent meal. We plan to return.

We came here Christmas Eve dinner and had the most amazing experience. The staff was very accommodating to the fact that we arrived a little earlier than our reservation time. The food was authentic Italian cuisine and so delicious. It is hard for me to get fresh pasta due to me being plant based. I was pleased that they had options, other than a salad, veggies, etc. I'm rarely able to partake so you can imagine my excitement. So many people from the hostess, bartender, other wait staff, and the chef came to check on us. The atmosphere was also so cute! I highly recommend.

Outstanding ravioli. Best I have had in San Diego. You can tell the chef is from Northern Italy. Lovely outdoor seating. Reminds one of having lunch in Italy on a piazza during the summer.

We are here after not being able to get into the Cottage (to be honest). It was a great restaurant. The pizzas were amazing, my 10 year old loved the spaghetti and meatballs- and basically everything we had was delicious. Friendly waitstaff as well and nice shaded outdoor dining.

PIAZZA 1909 is an excellent and authentic Italian restaurant run by an Italian family from Milan who really do know and understand the beauty, elegance, and subtlety of Italian food. I grew up with four grandparents from Italy and they would be pleased to go to a place like this. We are here for a week. We will return to PIAZZA 1909. Friendly and just very good.

We came here after deciding not to queue up for brunch at another restaurant. We were seated quickly in a shaded table near the front, where one can expect a breeze, unlike the tables around the side of the building, which are more sheltered and therefore less exposed to both sun and wind. My companion and I ordered two versions of the same egg dish. I ordered mine as a scramble, and he ordered his as a wrap. It took a while for them to come, but we had a good conversation while my companion sipped his coffee, which was fair but the server kept forgetting to bring cream for him. It was a bit odd, as the restaurant was not busy by any means, especially for a Sunday morning. My companion's mini cannoli came first, and they looked quite good, and he commented that they were. When our food came, my scramble had been prepared as an omelet so I sent it back. It came back as a scramble, which was, essentially, breaking up the egg a little bit and serving it. I accepted it, and it was all right. We learned that it is a family establishment that has been in business for a good number of years. Our conversation kept us at hour table for a while longer, but then we were ready for our check. It came, and we were splitting it, so I handed my cash to my companion and he put the entire on his credit card and had them make change for me. We might come back at a future date, as the food is good, if a little expensive.

Piazza has the best pasta in town, fabulous pizza. Unfortunately the brunch was disappointing. Eggs Benedict dry bread, very greasy bacon.

Very good service, convenient location, large menu. Not a cosy restaurant and the side patio is to be avoided. The food is good and fresh, but it is expensive. Personally, I think that there are better Italian restaurants in La Jolla, such as Piatti and Osteria.

We like this restaurant, and we enjoyed many lunches and a few dinners in the past. We had a dinner tonight to celebrate my birthday. The good things: excellent service, a great bottle of vermentino, a nice fist course, and a very good entree dish of scaloppine di pollo, and a very generous free desert of delicious canolli and a chocolate biscuit roll. The other entree, a grouper puttanesca, was disappointing because it was fishy (fish was probably not fresh). A bit too noisy, and not as elegant as we would have liked. Prices are way up from what they used to be (understandable given changes in the market and economy), but we felt that for nearly the same price we could have had a more elegant dinner and a more enjoyable experience at some other local restaurants (not mentioning names).

We had breakfast here on Sunday, October 4. The day before, we walked by at lunch time and the patio was full of enthusiastic diners. We decided to return the following day for breakfast. That morning La Jolla experienced something very unusual - steady rain. We hustled into the house, built in 1909, and it was like walking into a family home in Milan, where the chef-owners hail from. Like a family, the staff was bustling around, working like a well oiled machine to serve customers retreating from the rain. The owner-chef, Stefano, his wife Roberta, and head man Valter all introduced themselves and impressed us with their friendliness and charm. Valter "tamed" a couple of not so well behaved boys by bringing them pizza dough, which they rolled out to make their own pizzas. Our breakfast was superb, but it was the excellent staff that won us over, We can't wait to come here for lunch and/or dinner when we return to La Jolla.

Solid Italy fare (pasta, pizza etc), super friendly service (not rushed), and a surprisingly decent wine list that includes Robert Parker scores!

Delicious food. Lovely ambiance. I had the Burrata Caprese Rivisitata and it's the best I've ever had. My fiancé had the Casarecce ai Frutti di Mare and he really enjoyed it. My mom had the Fusilloni al Pesto e Burrata and thoroughly enjoyed hers as well. We will definitely be back.

Every dish is the chef's best - careful presentation of delicious home made true Italian cuisine by a master chef! Indoor and outdoor seating. Made think I was back in Italy!

We were treated in the best way. The chef is exceptional. Their Manager is in all the details to make diners feel very good. The Italian food is exceptional. Super recommended!

Glad we walked by this place and decided to give it a try. After that we went there few more times. This restaurant is good for just casual patio dining on the front patio, wine and small bites, as well as more formal dinners inside and celebrations at their back patio. Very cozy, authentic. Their cold meats and cheeses plate is excellent, with original selection of high quality. A lot of food is actually from Italy (like artichokes, cold cuts, etc.) Pastas are handmade and prepared very well. We liked pizzas as well. Thin crust, fresh toppings. Service is casual, but attentive. It's always fun to actually be surroundd by Italian speaking staff while in Italian restaurant. They welcome dogs:-) Good espresso and desserts, fresh bread. Happy to discover this place in La Jolla - to enjoy food, conversation, relaxed atmosphere and fresh air. Hope it will be enjoyed by many others.

Great food and great service, highly recommendable! We had the chicken cacciatore and the calamari, both delicious.

Food was absolutely terrible. Five of us. All agreed the pasta was inedible. Salad was at bes5 fair. The lasagna was the worse I’ve ever had.

We ate there one evening during the week. The food was delicious. Had the fish special. Excellent sauce over the tender white fish. Lovely people, attentive and pleasant service. Tables outside so I think it would be best when temperatures are warmish.

This is a fantastic restaurant. Amazing heated patio, lively and buzzing. We ate family style so tried many items on the menu. Everything was delicious. The meatballs ranked near the top with awesome homemade flavour. The arugula salad had s superb dressing. We tried 4 of the pizzas all excellent - my favourite being the sausage. You must try the ravioli and the gnocchi as well. The fried artichokes - so good. Not an extensive wine list, 3 choices but reasonable and good. The servers are busy but attentive and helpful. Really liked this place, it’s a must go. It was worth the drive from Carlsbad.

This morning we were planning to eat breakfast at The Cottage or Sugar & Scribe, but the lines were forever long at both spots. Piazza is just across the street and was totally empty. The outdoor seating is very appealing, so we decided to try it. We were so glad we did! We had the brie and mushroom omelette, with potatoes, whole grain bread, and fruit. Totally yummy! The potatoes were perfectly prepared, and so was the omelette. I have to rave about my favorite part--the fig jam. It was more like fig preserves, and it was absolutely delicious. The server was delightful, as well. I wanted to run over to everyone in line at The Cottage to tell them not to wait--to run over to Piazza to enjoy a delicious meal! Within about 15 minutes of our having been seated, customers began to roll in, and business was definitely beginning to pick up. We will return tomorrow for a repeat! What a great find!

The food here is really good. Incredibly fresh and authentic. Enjoyed sitting on the patio...very relaxing atmosphere. The menu is extensive so anyone can find something to eat.

We came to La Jolla yesterday and passed this restaurant several times while out walking and decided to try it. We were very impress in every way. The service was amazing and the rest of the staff were great. We tried the Otro Fritto pizza and were extremely pleased. The owner stopped by to see if we liked her recent creation. If you like veggies, this is a must! Salads were outstanding as well and the sangria was perfect. The staff surprised my wife with a candle lit plate of snickerdoodle cookies along with happy birthday song. What a wonderful find. Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant.

If you love good, authentic Northern Italian food, this is definitely for you. Relaxed vibe, creative menu, a chef from Milan who knows how to cook. Try the chicken cutlet Milanese or their home made pasta. The Parma ham is top quality and delicious. Salads are crisp and nicely dressed. All I can say is it's Italy without the jet lag.

Was here with a large group. Staff was super accommodating we had a fix prix menu and the selections were superb. Handmade ravioli were top notch. They were out of some popular wine selections but again it was a Tuesday it wasn’t a deal breaker.

While piazza retains its friendly environment I long for the restaurant to go back to its roots . The menu has changed and sadly the quality of the food has declined. Perhaps Stefano needs to be back in the kitchen . A few months ago we were there and my husband had the lasagna. We thought it was unusual to have what was basically meat and layers of pasta with no besciamella. But when I was there last week it was the same. Piazza used to have the best lasagna,. The recipe has changed so it is a poor imitation of a lasagna bolognese. Another favorite was the chicken Milanese. It used to be served with arugula and tomatoes nicely dressed . The chicken was cooked properly and not greasy at all. It was therefore surprising to have a plate served recently with a greasy chicken a side of overdressed arugula and French fries . It looked like fast food and tasted even More so. I write this review with reluctance but I hope the restaurant will reflect back on the quality it once had and return to those standards.

Piazza 1909 is a real Italian restaurant, with a real Italian atmosphere, real Italian food and wine, real Italian people. The whole experience is exquisite and wonderful. Stefano, the chef, is a superb cook and Roberta, his wife, the most welcoming kind lady. Please try it and it will be your favorite Italian restaurant!

We had dinner at Piazza 1909 3 nights while staying in La Jolla. The service was excellent, and the food was divine. We had pizza one night, sea bass in a citrus sauce another night, and we each had a pasta dish on our last evening in La Jolla. They make their own pasta fresh daily, along with the bread. All in all, wonderful dining experience.

This is a relatively new place and on our first visit we tried the linguini alla vongole which was very good! Good wine list by the glass and pleasant environment. Try it!

My husband and I enjoyed another great dining experience in Piazza 1909. Owners, Roberta, Stefano and Walter, present a delicious menu and wine list. Service is impeccable. They are meticulous in their presentation. We enjoyed delicious paninis filled with speck, figs and brie ! Spinach and cheese filled ravioli with butter and sage sauce is not to be missed. Espresso- freddo is a delightful and refreshing way to end lunch coupled with their "chocolate salami", a chocolate delight made from Roberta's mother's own family Milano recipe!! A true gift!! There is outside dining as well. Feel like your dining in Italy, come to Piazza 1909!

Nice place with great Italian food. The wine choice is good and the quality excellent. They have a patio which is very nice when temperatures are warm enough

The bruschetta was top notch. The Pollo Al Marsala e Funghi was excellent as were the vegetables that came with it. The lasagna was lots of beef with little cheese or sauce, good but different. Would have loved to dined in but it looked like a nice place!

Tried to order online but there is no way to order a drink if you do it this way so called and placed the order. It was ready when they said it would be. I had the pappardelle fra diavalo with shrimp. Shrimp were quite large which was nice. The pasta clumped mercilessly making it very challenging to eat. The bread was definitely on the stale/dry side which was disappointing. They didn't give me any silverware for carry out which I didn't discover till I was at the hotel which made for a challenge to find some. Pretty expensive for the amount and quality of the food.

Dining at Piazza 1909 is like dining in a patio in Italy. The kitchen is housed in a registered historic landmark. The food is superb, the service impeccable, the wines as carefully curated as they are good values. There is simply no better coffee to be found in La Jolla. Not perfect? No, - not yet. In fact the imperfection of Piazza 1909 is glaring. They are not yet open for dinner.

We had a wonderful dinner this evening at Piazza 1909. We sat outside and enjoyed the ambience. I started off with a salad and then I shared a pizza with my husband. Both were delicious. My parents in law had another amazing pizza with friend veggies on top (Brussels sprouts. Carrots and broccoli.). The vegetables were in super large chunks on top of the pizza. I tried a few bites and was blown away. Everyone at the table agreed that it was a fabulous dinner. Ambience. Service. Food. All fantastic. I highly recommend.

My new favorite restaurant in La Jolla and there are many in town to enjoy. For authentic Italian food served by Italians (who speak perfect English with that delightful Italian accent) in an historical house go to Piazza 1909. It is dog friendly so my wife and I were with my son, his wife and there dog ate on the large patio. It was so good that we ate there twice, once for dinner and on our final day for brunch. I had Burrata twice it was deliciosso, spaghetti with Bolognese sauce and spaghetti carbonara. The pastas were cooked and "sauced" perfectly. The wines are very reasonably priced.

Everything was perfection! Calarari, Pesto Ravioli, Cannelloni, mac & cheese (grandchild), and the Gold Medal for overall was the Linguine & Clams! Homemade Pistachio ice cream and expresso was an unbeatable finale!

everything amazing. Pizza & pasta so wonderful. nice young Italian men serving. Nice space with a lot of outdoor seating.

Probably the best Italian Place in La Jolla. We were amazed about the very warm welcome and felt the whole evening as if we would be knowing Walter and Roberta forever. 1909 is a unique place and the food just great. The highlight was that our kids were invited to make Gnocchi with the Chef and test them with Nutella as a dessert. An unforgettable evening - we will definitely come back and would recommend every fan of the italian cuisine to pay a visit to this authentic place which is second to none in La Jolla / San Diego! Thank you! You made our holidays special!!!

My wife and I found this restaurant on trip advisor and yelp. It had mid range reviews and was near our hotel on Fay st. We arrived early (6). The maître de took time with us as we hemmed and hawed about where to sit. Inside/outside, this table/that. We settled on a cozy table outside. We both shared a great house salad. She ordered gnocchi with a Gorgonzola cream sauce. We both loved it. Mine meal was ravioli that came luke warm and with a pale looking tomato sauce that reminded me of ketchup. It could have used some real tomatoes and more color. When i told the waiter of my less than satisfactory meal, The owner took care of us by providing a yummy desert treat. Good restaurants take care of you. We would go back next time in La Jolla.

They have lovely sauces such as the tomato sauce on their pizza and the sauce they serve while you wait for your meal. However, the pizza crust was thick and tough which I never associate as being true Italian (apart from the very thick Sicilian pizza). Chips were awful, with a strange mix of garlic and hard cheese on top. Nice staff but extremely disorganised.

We ate here since it was right down the block from our hotel, The Empress. We sat outside under a heater and it was wonderful. Service was fine, food was good, but we have a high bar for Italian since we are from NJ and there are fabulous restaurants around here to choose from. A tad expensive in my opinion for what you get, so have a cocktail in your room before you go to help keep the price down. Don't get me wrong, it was very good, just not great. The eggplant appetizer we ordered was to die for, the highlight of our meal. I had spinach ravioli for an entree but wish I had done the eggplant as a meal!

Went with kids for an early dinner. It’s really not my favorite type of place - open air, so it was warm inside, some flies, etc. but they made the best beef lasagna I’ve ever had. Also the bruschetta was quite excellent. Downside is that the menu and beer selection are limited. They have no booths and the chairs are fairly hard, but its more like an Italian cafe than a restaurant. Not a place you’re going to hang out for a long time. Normally, I’d give a place like this an average rating but the lasagna makes it a 5.

Was here for dinner one night and then lunch the next day! Exceptionally wonderful both times! For dinner our waiter Stefano did an excellent job; and since we so enjoyed our meals; he brought the chef Stefano out to meet us! Such a special treat! The salmon/mussels/clam special was so carefully prepared that the salmon flakes and was the best I had ever had; one friend had the ravioli; another the gnocchi and another a different salmon dish. Each of us was delighted. For starters we shared a salad with fried artichokes and a cheese with prosciutto. Wish I knew the names as they were both so so delicious! The bread was fresh and warm; desserts just as enjoyable and the atmosphere oh so LaJolla! For lunch the next day we shared a house salad and the Margarita pizza. Delicious; with plenty of pizza to take home. Riley and Lorenzo took excellent care of us; accenting that this is a staff that is dedicated to customer satisfaction and service. Don’t miss Piazza 1909!

I went with my boyfriend to eat there and when we arrived the manager told us that all the tables were reserved. So, we decided to order to go, we waited over 30 minutes and saw 3 tables leaving, we ask them if we could ate there and they told us the same thing: “all the tables are reserved” but no one ever come to the tables that were “reserved” and they were available. We waited over 40 minutes to have our food and they gave us nothing of Parmesan cheese and pepper, it was like a joke for us. We ordered more and the manager was to effusive with my boyfriend. The food was good but the service is horrible… no one came to the tables that were alone and the service is horrible. You need to fix that.

Summer is here, and the nights are warm. This is a perfect place to enjoy dinner outside. The restaurant is situated with a wonderful patio that wraps around the main bungalow house where the kitchen is located. They have private dining areas and a charming back patio for events. The food is always wonderful, pasta is made fresh daily by the owner. I don't think I have ever ordered anything here that I didn't enjoy! Fresh halibut the other night, with mussels, clams and shrimp... yum!

I had house salad with chicken added. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the dressing was great. My brother had eggs Benedict with spinach and added avocado. He loved every bite. Served complimentary bread with tomato sauce, and the bread was warm. Everything was delicious.

This restaurant location has undergone many owners but this one is here to stay! The management has a keen sense of creating menu options that are delicious, varied, and generous for patrons who are locals returning regularly or vacationers here for the first time. This is a great option for healthy Italian dining; well-priced for any family's budget; generous portions; something for everyone. Enjoy!

Ate here before a classical music concert, and everyone’s palate was satisfied. From pasta to pizza, salads and apps, food was solidly good, well-presented and promptly served. While the restaurant has a large open outdoor patio, an inside dining room, they also have a side patio where we ate. Though still outside, it was shielded from the wind. We all enjoyed the food and will be back!

Stopped in for a late lunch looking for a gluten free pizza and options for our kids. Roberta was so kind and a wonderful server. Food was authentic Italian and delicious.

Great ambiance, great presentation, fresh ingredients, but somehow very bland taste. On this visit, I wasn't the only one that felt this way. Ordered the lasagna and one of their gnocchi/mushroom dishes.

Enjoyed a fabulous evening dining on the terrace with friends from Rome. The homemade pasta is excellent, as is the wine list. Stefano and his team can only be congratulated on the quality of their restaurant. I will definitely be back!

Excellent food, pasta perfect, and the pizza ..no words to describe it. Thin crust..fresh mozzarella..Now, if you like the big deep dish pizza..not for you stick with papa john ..This a real pizza. And lets not forget perfect service. We will be back soon.

We just returned from Piazza 1909 in La Jolla. Could it be that San Diego finally has a restaurant with some of the freshest Italian food cooked with the love and caring that you expect when you eat in Italy. Everything we had was beyond what we come to expect in this town. The fritti of verdure e pesce actually had the freshest fish and vegetables and even sage leaves. We also had the prosciutto and mozzarella with tomatoes and eggplant . This is the kind of dish that depends on the ingredients - perfectly sliced prosciutto - fruity police oil and mozzarella. We shared two pastas - the ricotta and sausage ravioli were truly homemade - the sausage was a background flavor and the pasta had the bite you only expect in Italy. The gnocchi with shell fish was a surprise. the shellfish again was so fresh but the sauce itself only had the depths of light tomatoes and perhaps a hot of chile . Our mains were also superb. You did not have to taste the fish tho know ti was fresh - it has the glisten you only expect with fish caught from the sea. I had the clotted alla milanese ( not veal but chicken ) t was perfectly cooked with the freshest tomatoes and arugula . As you would expect from an Italian restaurant. I can only hope and pray the quality will continue - this was true food - true Italian food. Something i had given up hope of finding in our city and town.

Whether for a Sunday Harp Brunch or live music as the sun sets Thursday evenings, Piazza 1909 has been delightful every time we have visited. The authentic Italian cuisine has been delicious and the service has been friendly, professional, and perfect. We love Piazza 1909.

Fantastic food and great service at a reasonable price. Kids meals were good and I loved the lasagne, which I wouldn’t normally order as feels like a cop out order. This was anything but. Loved it here

My family stopped at Piazza 1909 on a Saturday for lunch. We had a reservation but didn't need it - the restaurant was fairly quiet (which we liked). The food was excellent - we ordered seafood entrees and pasta for our son. Portions were right sized and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. We would definitely return and would love to try the dinner scene here.

One server for the entire restaurant. Glacially poor service. They start the dinner off by asking you what water you want, then surreptitiously charging you for still water. Avoid this restaurant.

My go to Italian in town. Often we'll stop by for a lunch - Pizza's and glass of wine. But it's also suitable to splurge for more exotic entrees - Lamb, Salmon, etc. The desserts are excellent - Tirmisu, Creme Brulee - made with Nutella, Cannolis (leave the gun). Our waiter was fluent in Italian - good sign!

They were very accommodating to a large family with little children to include strollers. All the food came out fresh and hot at the same time. They accommodated all are different dining needs. Great family atmosphere. Definite must stop

I was in San Diego for a convention a couple of weeks ago and had the pleasure to eat at PIAZZA 1909 in La Jolla, a historical house built in 1909 which gave the name to the restaurant. What a nice surprise: I'm italian, and I can say that PIAZZA is a true italian restaurant, family owned and ran by first generation Italians. The food was exquisite, as well as the service, friendly but attentive, and having lunch outside in the beautiful patio of PIAZZA was amazing. I had the handmade beats Ravioli in a butter and sage sauce followed by a fresh catch of Ahi Tuna, topped with wild Arugula salad. They were both excellent, but the Ravioli was my favorite, with the right flavor and texture like the ones I'm used to have in Italy. If you are looking for true italian flavors in a wonderful place next to La Jolla seightseeings, PIAZZA 1909 is the right place!

The food here is authentic, quality, and fresh! This is a place where you run into locals dining their their dogs outside on the trendy, chic terrace or trendy, smart tourists wander off the beaten path to find a jackpot! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone living in La Jolla or just visiting. I come free an Italian family. Typically, I do not like eating Italian out because I was raised eating authentic Italian dishes made by my grandmother. This restaurant made me feel like I was at home. Introduce yourself to Roberta. She is incredible. So, sit back, relax, and set away to a piece of Italy for a couple hours.

As a resident of La Jolla, I have been here over a dozen times and I love this place for many reasons, one of which is that it is overall just consistently good. Here are the other factors I've considered in giving this rating. #1 - The food is authentic Italian and is always hot and delicious. On my last visit we tried the margherita pizza and pasta with eggplant - both were excellent. My favorite item (when it's on the menu) is the Timballino - a delicious eggplant appetizer. #2 - The wait staff is also primarily Italian and very friendly - adding to the authenticity of the place. #3 - The ambiance is very relaxed. There aren't actually that many places in La Jolla with a decent sized patio (outside of George's or Eddie V's), but Piazza 1909 has a fairly large one with strings of lights, heaters and a cozy feel to it since it's tucked between two buildings. I've only been here for dinner, but I believe they are also open for lunch and now breakfast too. In my opinion I'd rather go here for breakfast than wait in line at the other nearby uber-popular places.

Walter is very personable and friendly. The Chianti wine by the glass is excellent as well as other wine we've ordered by the bottle. The food is delicious too. I've had many different dishes, including the margarita pizza, the fresh fish of the day, and it was all very good. The ambiance, the food and the wine keeps bringing us back.

The food was just so-so. I had the spaghetti and meatballs and hubby had a pizza. The meatballs were good but the marinara wasn't anything special. The sausage and peppers pizza was VERY soggy but the crust was good. No mixed drinks. Only wine and beer. The outside seating was really nice though.

I’m not sure why this restaurant is number #19 on the list? This place is awesome, friendly staff, great Italian feel and if you sit inside you can see the kitchen operating. I couldn’t have asked for a nicer meal. The gnocchi is the best ever. Worth a look / you won’t be disappointed.

We had breakfast omelets for lunch here while exploring LaJolla. The food was delicious and the excellent service was attentive, friendly and helpful. We ate on the patio and listened to relaxing, beautiful (live) harp music. There are indoor and cabana-style eating options in addition to the front patio area. We will definitely return next time we are in the area.

This restaurant is across the street from the Empress Hotel where I stayed. The food is homemade and delicious - especially the spinach ravoii with sage. Nice wine list. Best of all, the meal was reasonable and a great value in pricey La Jolla. Definitely visit!

We really enjoyed the pizza and pasta at this authentic restaurant in downtown La Jolla. The staff was very kind and the service quick. The eggplant pizza was fabulous.

This is our favorite place to go to for birthdays and special occasions. No matter what we order, the food is always delicious and the unique and subtle flavors of the dishes go well together. The pastas are homemade and the Italian sausage is flavorful and melts in your mouth! Our favorites are the lasagna and the tagliatelle bolognese. The portions are generous, the ambiance is serene, and the staff is very welcoming and attentive. It’s in a calmer area of downtown La Jolla and the experience is always enjoyable. I would 100% recommend! This restaurant is a gem in La Jolla!

Great homemade ravioli and burrata tomato salad was wonderful. Nice patio atmosphere and dog friendly. Can't wait for them to open for dinner.

To start with- the tables appear to be purchased from a unseemly rejects shop, the entry has a gap in the floor that's filled with dish towels, waiters had difficulty getting a request for tap water straight. The chef apparently doesn't know what gluten free safety means- their GF pizza is cooked in an oven right on top of non-gluten free pizza crumbs. A salmon main was ordered with a request to substitute for the potatoes. The dish it came on was very narrow, contained the smallest portion of fish I have ever seen- more of an appetizer size- and, despite the request, included the potatoes with no available substitution. Long wait just to get change when paying the bill despite restaurant not being all that busy.

The food is really good. I always have the smoked sandwich and fresh orange juice. I really recommend this place. They have tables outside which is good. The stuff is friendly and the food is just really good quality. Is not very expensive. I just love it :)

I've had some decent meals here but the stuffed calamari wasn't one of them. I spit out the first rubbery bite and the bus boy took the rest away before I could tell the waiter. No reply when I emailed, so it's .Arivaderci . Too many other choices.

Chef Stefano is very good with every dish he cooks and he plates them tastefully. This is the right place to be for delicious Italian meal.

Happily I have a friend who has a sister who lives in LaJolla & she recommended this restaurant. Otherwise I would not have tried it. I had Chicken Marsala & roasted vegetables-- my husband had the lasagna-- all homemade. So fresh. Cannoli (3 mini) topped a delicious meal.

I almost don't want to review this one as it was delicious, thus crowded soon. This is a casual Northern (Milano) cuisine place. Started with bruschetta w/capanada grilled peppers, we had a shrimp salad and veal piccata. Best veal ever. Wasn't thrilled will the peel it yourseft but flavors were terrific. Gnocchi and clams full of succulent morsels Va Bene European service and no rush.

My family and I visited this restaurant while in town on a little vacation from Arizona heat! We saw photos and thought, man, this place is so small there's no way we will get in here. But I think that's kind of just how the restaurants do things here. We got right in with no problem, and we saw plenty of outdoor seating all around the place so don't worry! They had a great wine list to go with the delicious pasta and pizza. The price was reasonable and the food was great! My wife had the ravioli, my daughter had a cheese pizza, and I had spaghetti and meatballs. They all said their food was great. We love wood fired pizza! We could tell the pasta was not just a box of pasta like we could do at home. This pasta was fresh and delicious! It was also within walking distance of our hotel so that was a plus! All around great visit and would go back again!

Service was very good, we tried the sangria and didn’t like it (lots of cinnamon in it) and they immediately changed it with no charge. Very friendly and beautiful building and setting. Not a massive choice on the menu but we really enjoyed what we had.

Unfortunately we did not have a reservation. Their website said nothing about needing a reservation. This was the last day of the Wine & arts festival. There were plenty of tables available, but all were reserved. I walk with a cane and asked if I could have a table on the first level and was told no. The stairs to the next level were difficult to maneuver but I made it. We were seated at a table for 2 up against the partition to the kitchen. There were only 2-3 waiters for the entire restaurant. Because of that, we had lengthy amount of time between courses. Food was very good. For dessert, we looked forward to canoli's which are their specialty. They were out of canoli's and the chef told us they were so busy he couldn't make more for the dinner crowd. Poor planning. I recommend a reservation.

I saw this restaurant 2 years ago and the place looks really nice. Finally, I went today. The environment is amazing, service is super good, and the variety of food is big. Super recommend.

Just happened to stop in here for a quick bite and very pleasantly surprised. The fried calamari and our arugula salad were excellent. It was very Italian as all the servers speak Italian and the food is very well-prepared.

Excellent authentic Italian food. Small personal made-to-order restaurant. "Best lasagna I ever had" from our family. Recommend the bruschetta too.

Unfortunately, we didn't stay to sample the food we had heard so much about. We were seated at the bar waiting for our table. When we were settling our bar bill, our server claimed she didn't have change, but said the amount was average for two drinks, so she just kept it and walked away. She was condescending and rude. If this is indicative of the rest of the servers, we had no interest in staying for dinner, so left our drinks and came home. We will never return.

Very rich dishes, transported us to Italy. The owner very friendly, we talked to her about the origins of the restaurant and were delighted. Very good prices for pastas.

Table of five adults. - A careless server bought bread to the table and knocked over a full glass of water into lap of of a guest in our group. - We asked, repeatedly, for water without ice. The server filled our glasses with iced water over and over again throughout the dinner. - Our group was friendly to the waiter, in response, the waiter rushed us for our ordered and then disappeared. - A person in our group ordered halibut and was served salmon. When we brought it to the attention of the waiter, he told us that the kitchen had run out of halibut and we should be happy getting salmon and what did we expect him to do, “run down to the ocean to get a halibut?”. The waiter did offer to bring out a new serving of salmon with a different sauce — the sauce used when ordering the salmon dish. To appease us, the waiter bought a tiramisu for desert with five spoons. - A person in our party ordered lasagna, it was served in a bowl and looked like a soupy casserole. Another person ordered chicken cutlets, they were tasteless and hard as a brick. - After our entrees were finished, the waiter did not ask us if we wanted desert or coffee. - The waiter double charged our credit card and refused to provide us with a receipt showing the second charge was voided. We finally asked and received from the hostess the receipt. We do not recommend Piazza 1909

Beautiful patio. Very pleasant friendly service. Really good main courses and salads. Good selection of wine by the glass.

Italian food prepared by the owners, very lively and filled with children. We had a bridal dinner in a separate indoor/outdoor room in the back. Roberta did a great job organizing the venue. All good.

The asparagus truffle ravioli special was amazing! The pizza and butternut squash soup were also delicious. Great patio dining, especially at sunset. While we were there a live musician was playing. Definitely going to return ! :)

Top notch service from the moment we stepped in until we walked out the door. Host was great, server was great, busers were great. Loved our food. Will definitely be back.

Went back with friends. They also fell in love with the food. Real fresh pasta..none of that chewy rubber ..cheap pasta. The flavors are devine..the service is perfect..We will be back

I ate dinner here one night and was EXTREMELY impressed by all the food! We had a large party and the owners planned a buffet style dinner with soup, two salad choices, various pizzas, lobster ravioli, dessert and more! I will definitely be visiting this place again!

Had a terrific brunch here last week. The fresh squeezed orange juice with the Adige Fritatta was excellent and the best breakfast I had while there. I highly recommend this place for brunch.

Great service from Beppe! We loved the food. Bruschetta and calamari were delicious appetizers. Loved that they had a vegan menu! Very small cute indoor area. Very authentic Italian food. Really nice Italian wine. The man at the table next to us got mad and yelled at us because our friend bumped into his wife accidentally. The restaurant people handled it well and the police didn’t need to come. It was an interesting night! Would recommend!

Made a last minute reservation, wasn’t sure because of Good Friday, if it was going to be a zoo. Pleasantly surprised, definitely not packed, but enough people to make it interesting. We were seated immediately, greeted very warmly. Great service, attentive without being intrusive. We ordered a pizza, the bolognese, and the cinghiale app. All great! The cinghiale had mushrooms which was not listed on the menu. Not a fan of mushrooms. Would not have ordered it had I known. All in all, a great visit.

We ate dinner at Piazza, and loved it!! It was cozy and comfortable, and the food was divine!! The wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

This is a cute Italian restaurant with a great patio. The food was very good, service was great & the gluten free pasta was such a treat! The only "odd" thing was the bathrooms are way in the back-- outside! But they were clean!

Not the greatest restaurant to go to in San Diego. Service was very slow, not all of us got there dishes at the same time, some of us received their food 15 minutes later. Food was okay.

Great setting, ambiance, service and food. The caprese and pizza were delicious. Make sure to visit this put of the way restaurant!

This is the best Italian restaurant. Amazing food. The pasta & soups are delicious. My husband thinks the lasagna is the best he has tasted. The home made bread is amazing.

Even without the sauce the pasta is yummy because they make it there. The buffalo salad with heirloom tomatoes is a meal and so fresh and tasty. We both had a generous serving of the pasta with meat sauce. There is a $2 charge for the bread...save your money for something else. Desserts are limited and wine is mainly Italian. You park on the street but La Jolla street parking can be challenging especially in the summer. Outdoor seating is comfortable but there are no views. The inside seating is cozy but limited. The service is a bit choppy but who is in a hurry to leave?

I had the Caprese and my husband a Pizza. As usual it was delicious. Perfect food perfect service ..and FRESH ingredients. Why going somewhere else??

We had a wonderful evening at Piazza 1909. Our server Herendira was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable of the menu and took great care of us throughout the evening. The seating area outside was lovely. The food was very tasty and the cocktails were delicious. In particular we loved the Hugo Spritz cocktails and my Ravioli alla Parmigiana was delicious. We definitely recommend dining at Piazza 1909 if you get the chance and also appreciated the GF options. For an idea of cost before a tip for 2 main dishes, 4 cocktails and 1 dessert it cost approximately $130.

I stopped by for a late lunch on a lovely day. Very pleasant to sit outside, waitstaff were friendly and helpful. I wanted the Pizza Margarita, but it was too much for one. The waiter suggested the kid's size, which was a lot. So, I have a few lunches at home now! A nice place to relax, pizza and a glass of wine!

True Italian cooking as if you were in Florence. Atmosphere, service, staff, chefs plus terrific cuisine makes this a destination stop. Wonderful

After a friends recommendation we went there to have lunch, they make their pasta daily, so it takes a little while to get your food served, but it is very much worth the wait. The owner and his wife are always walking around the restaurant chatting, very family friendly. We had a great time there, the food was very good.

This was one of the best meals we have had in La Jolla. Homemade pasta, delicious flavours and sauces. Nice outdoor space in casual friendly surroundings. Highly recommended!

We went to Piazza 1909 for dinner, a last minute decision. We had to wait a few minutes and sit inside rather than on the pleasant patio. But inside you can watch the kitchen, so that has its interest. What a team! Everything moves like clockwork without a word being wasted. Our server was extremely friendly, very helpful without being excessively present. Excellent food. We had an unusual dish of gnocchi with beans and clams as a first course. Then grouper siciliana. Some pleasant vernaccia San Gimignano went with both courses. Finished with an excellent gelato. I strongly recommend this restaurant for the food, the setting, the atmosphere.

We had an early dinner before going to a movie and ordered pizza with a salad and were very happy with the quality of the food and the service. Highly recommended.

We both had the Chicken Panini which had a fancier Italian name. Excellent food although I wish a baked option, vs. breaded, was offered. I even splurged and had fries. Good service. Overall a nice little place. I wish i had time/space to try their pizza. One thought - panini was big enough for two - split one.

Enjoyed a post-concert meal of delicious food, selected by our hosts. Everything was fresh and deserts were quite memorable.

Can’t fault it, amazing taste food, good service lovely setting. 4 hours later still full up. We had pizza, ravioli, omelette and salad all excellent. Big portions clean restaurant ok WiFi. Would again and again

Excellent pastas and sauces. The bolognese was terrific, the pasta was perfect. My wife had the spahetti and meatballs and loved. Well worth the trip, cost was a bonus.

First we ate breakfast here and after the bad experience at the Cottage we only had to walk across the street to Piazza 1909 to discover truly great food. You can tell they use the finest ingredients and then it is cooked to perfection. We had wine with breakfast and a chocolate concoction made that day -- I could watch her preparing other desserts from our table. We went back that very night for dinner. It was the best meal we had the entire 14 days of our vacation -- no exaggeration. I ate a huge portion of fettuccine al'Agostino and felt wonderful afterwards, like I'd had a health drink, it so agreed with me. My spouse had the lamb ravioli which he also enjoyed immensely. Then the fruits cake (perfect). There was no way to improve upon our experience. We ate here again on New Year's Eve. Piazza 1909 is a top notch restaurant; I highly recommend it.

So many pizzas to select from and we ended up staying basic with sausage. But the pizza was anything but basic, the crust was delicious and the sausage was great. Staff was very nice and helped my husband pick out an Italian beer which was perfect for him. The house wine was perfect for me.

We happened upon it chance. It used to be a sushi place. Piazza 1909 named in part after when the house was built in 1909. This place will not disappoint. What makes this place amazing is the authenticity of the owners and chef who are actually Italian. Then comes the décor. Such a beautiful place to sit and dine. The tables are long that allow you to have a large family or join others along the table like family style but not necessarily joining them to dine. Next of course is the food. I took a chance on the Lasagna. I generally don't eat this heavy at lunch but the description was very tempting. Slow roasted beef ragout with a béchamel sauce and parmesan. It was one of the most delicious luxurious lasagna I have had. I enjoyed every scrumptious bite. Be aware it is hot upon delivery to the table so wait a little bit if you can. In the mean time feast upon the home made bread with olive oil. I would go back just for the Focaccia bread. My husband had a chicken sandwich and fries. All of which was so tasty. This was a lovely way to spend our lunch time and I highly recommend it to everyone. Also the chef offers cooking classes where there is shopping at a farmer's market and return to restaurant to cook Italian style.

Gluten free pizza was good but we felt we were unwelcome. The table next to us came after us but received service before us and more attention. Not sure if they prefer locals?

Five of us had dinner at Piazza 1909 tonight. Eating outside was very pleasant. The menu had a lot of interesting items and they had daily specials. The food was fantastic. The service was attentive and friendly.

We stopped here for lunch, and the food was so good we returned for dinner the next day. The service is great and we felt very welcome. Definately worth a visit .

Piazza 1909 would already be my favorite restaurant for its fried calamari, artichoke hearts, shrimp and zucchini— GLUTEN FREE!!! But then you add the delicious pizzas, pasta, wine, Walter and Stefano and you almost have perfection. Unfortunately, word has gotten out, so you usually need to reserve ahead. Or try sitting at the friendly community tables— lovely!

One of the best Italian restaurants we have ever had. Better than most of Rome's. A great place with an outstanding service.

Piazza 1909 is named after its historic building location on Fay Avenue in La Jolla and the fact that the outdoor seating is reminiscent of an Italian city square. The warm focaccia with balsamic and EVOO dip was a scrumptious starter. The Linguine alle Vongole with its thick spaghetti, mountain of clams and flavorful white wine sauce was perfection. Other popular menu items include the gnocchi, bolognese and ravioli making this spot a pasta lovers dream.

Chef Stefano and Roberta always treat our family like family when we come to La Jolla and even after more than 2 years, they remembered our daughter and pay extra attention to her each time we visit! This trip, I had a red beet gnocchi with sweet potatoes and speck that was FANTASTIC-honestly the best pasta dish I’ve ever eaten! The lasagna is always excellent as well! The staff are friendly and attentive. A wonderful experience that I can’t recommend highly enough!!!

Having lived in Rome, and having spent countless summers on the Amalfi Coast, my family knows authentic Italian food. When you're conversing with the restaurant and the owner's family in Italian while sipping a smooth espresso, you know it's the real deal. Even though we live in Santa Barbara, it was worth the four hour drive for the best Italian food in the country. There's nothing like al dente pasta, or arugula topped with pureed strawberries. The atmosphere is just like Southern Italy, including of course two kisses on the cheek. We are much anticipating the return. Cinque stelle!

What a wonderful find! Dinner with my husband on the patio and each course was delicious- from a flavorful carrot soup with the accompanying foccacia and red pepper dipping sauce, to the fresh spinach salad, to the salt-crusted salmon filled with fragrant lemon infused crab- everything was done to perfection. The service was attentive but not intrusive- and how refreshing to be asked "good?" instead of "how is everything tasting?" Wholeheartedly recommend Piazza 1909 -

We spent a delightful evening at Piazza 1909 at the end of April, 2021. We signed up for the Chef's Tasting Menu and it was fantastic. It includes six courses, each one introduced and served by Chef Stefano. From stuffed mussels to pasta to a whole red snapper baked in a rock salt crust, everything was not just a feast for the palette, but an incredible feast for the eyes.. What impressed us besides the delicious food was the passion and excitement that Chef Stefano and his charming wife Roberta have for their native cuisine of Milan. It was a superb evening with some of the best architecture and ambiance ever. We will return.

Good pizza. Maybe a little more sauce would be even better, but the pasta is good. Registered mail. Thank you

We went in for an early dinner the first week it opened. Soft opening. The servers were still working out some kinks you could tell. The food was surprisingly good. We talked to wth the server and then the owner Chef. Both were gracious and excited to begin their new adventure. I brought my grandkids for lunch about a week later. My 6yr old announced loudly,"This is the best Pizza I ever ate"! That drew a few chuckles from the other guests. Our lunch salads and entries were excellent as well. And, he was right, the best pizza I have had in San Diego. (sorry) I took my wife for a special dinner to celebrate an upcoming event and wanted something high quality. I must say, the dinners were more than expected in all areas, presentation, quantity and quality. These folks are for real, and, I love trying to practice my Italian while I'm there. Price is as expected for the quality and atmosphere. Glad you opened in La Jolla! We will be back soon. Billzil

I love linguine and clams in a white wine sauce and Piazza does it exactly right. So many times when I have ordered it in other places, it is either bland or they try to jazz it up and ruin it. Not Piazza, theirs has right balance of garlic and other herbs. It was the best I've had in years. The service was great also.

Why go to Italy when this great little gem is right here in La Jolla? We live nearby and had not been here for some time. What wonderful waitstaff and superb, fresh food. Can't wait to return.

The location is great, open and closed spaces are available for different weathers. The service is as cosmopolitan as it can get, multi lingual speakers all through the staff. But the food... the pasta is home made by one of the owners (I witnessed the making of) and it as close as Italy as you can get (actually according to my friend simone "giusto como la pasta della mia mamma") and everything feels like eating at home. When eating there ask for Diego, he will make sure your experience is top notch!
First time to Piazza
We have followed the Chef Stefano and his wife Roberta from their first breakfast/lunch restaurant to Caffé Bella Italia and then Solare. Was glad to hear they finally got back into another restaurant. Dinner was excellent as expected. Particularly the lasagna my wife had, as I believe was as good as could be. Not some over sauced dish, but excellent flavors. I had the duck special and it was fine, but after a bite of her lasagna I think I would go for my own plate. Started with an appetizer and salad, and turned out way to much, but we could never pass up Stefano's deserts so had to have one. They also do wood fired pizzas, and for a casual dinner that would be an excellent choice also!
