Favorite meal of the trip!

By Shandon G |

My husband is a biscuit and gravy lover from way back, so I knew we needed to make a stop. While we were there the special was their chili verde and it was phenomenal, blew us away with all the layers of flavor and how well the biscuit held up to it. We also ordered the Reggie Deluxe which was good, a bit heavy for my liking but devoured by my husband. The biscuit with jam and butter was light and fluffy and their adult pop tart was an indulgence worth having. We tried the strawberry almond flavor. Their covered patio on the side of the building was spacious, well kept and dog friendly!

Too much of everything!

I met six friends there. Thank goodness! It saved a huge waste of good food. You need to have a family of at least five; two of whom are teenage boys who are long distance runners and can put away 4000 calories in one sitting. My elderly mother loved biscuits and gravy but one order at Pine State would have lasted her for at least three days. But she would have loved them. When I met friends there we were pretty early and didn't wait long to get a table. However when we left about 10:30 am the line to get in was pretty long. Here in Portland that's ok if its not raining and the temperature is not above 90. Otherwise it can seem like forever.

Gravy - enough said

By KevinLA310 |

We shared a plate of biscuits and gravy and some fried chicken biscuit sandwich. I liked the sandwich, but the gravy is by far the best thing on their menu and the best i've ever had. It's not photogenic so if you see pictures of it, it doesn't do it justice.

I would go out of my way to come back!

By spicyjina |

The Reggie with an egg is everything you need. You can "make it spicy" with their house made buffalo sauce. The coffee is yummy and a very neat little place. You don't save seats and bus the table yourself. They cook the meat with a traeger ... I'm just impressed

Amazing

By Erin McD-Hawk |

What a great find while in the neighborhood! So glad we stopped to give it a try. I got the Reggie and it was amazing!

Portland trip

By JagNSJ |

My first visit to Portland. My daughter picked this place for brunch. Had to wait a while in queue. But it's worth it. We enjoyed it. Liked Hash Ups too.

The biscuits are very good

By RUTexan |

My wife and I enjoyed our bacon, egg and cheese biscuits. They were huge and full of well cooked ingredients. Don't think I can ever eat another McDonald's biscuit after eating here.

Wow, what a breakfast

By TucsonTraveller2 |

We go to Pine State Biscuits whenever were in town and it never disappoints. I ordered the The Reggie Deluxe, Fried chicken, egg, bacon & cheese topped with gravy and another ordered the The Moneyball, Biscuit and gravy topped with an over easy egg(but we had it scrambled). Both meals together were under $17. The meals are so filling and tasty. That's why there is a line out the door and around the corner. You order at the counter, then find a seat, the meal is brought out to you. The service is good.

The Reggie Deluxe is Awesome!

By alanbZ1732RQ |

Heard about this place. Love biscuits. Wow. Great biscuits just with butter and honey! But we also got the Reggie Deluxe -- man, what do you say about this: great biscuit, fried chicken, cheese, bacon, fried egg slathered in great sausage gravy -- whew -- You gotta try this at least once before dying! It may speed that along some!! Oh, we went early, like 7:30 and no line at all .. but if you wait till 9:00am -- plan to stand in line a while. The word is out on this place!!

Breakfast

By stachian |

Had an amazing breakfast there. Get there early as it fills to capacity quickly. You can watch them make the biscuits as you wait!

Better than expected!

By ROBERT ZAPATA |

Went to pine street because I heard it was pretty decent. I can’t see how a biscuit sandwich can be so exciting so I wasn’t all that hyped up about it. I put up a picture of my location and had a bunch of friend dm me telling me how much they love this place so my curiosity deepened. When my biscuit hit my table my heart changed! It looked amazing, smelt amazing and had this look i found irresistible. Cheese melting down the side and sauce over flowing it just had me at first sight! You must try this place!

Delicious!

By Tara Heagele |

I had the biscuits and gravy, hubby had the Reggie biscuit sandwich (fried chicken, bacon & cheese topped with gravy) and a Bloody Mary, and we shared an order of hash browns. Everything was absolutely delicious and super satisfying. The place was packed for breakfast - always a good sign! However, the line moved quickly and we were in and out in a timely manner. If I lived in Portland, I'd probably be a regular here.

More Hype than Taste.

By patpatrick96 |

Every review said it was a "must try" place. So we did. Stood in line for awhile eyeballing just where we would sit in this tiny place. The counter guy was friendly, the food was over priced. Still no vacancies so we had to go outside & ended up (literally) in the street. They put benches in a parking spot in the street in front of the restaurant. The unhappy waitress had to bring our plates out... imagine! So with every Uber that stopped to pick up the patrons, we got a heavy dose of exhaust fumes to top our food. I got the pancakes that very heavy. (Not light & fluffy) The blue berries in it was the best part. Guess I should have tried a biscuit instead?

Delicious!

By October_Tauna |

I ordered a McInsley and it was superb, more delicious than expected. The biscuit is large, chicken is cooked perfectly moist and a breast piece, perfect amount of condiments on the sandwich and a very helpful & friendly staff. Better than expected and now I understand why the lines are so long!

Very good local chain

By Todd F |

This is a great place to stop in for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Their chicken and biscuits are among the best in Portland and their brisket is pretty damn good as well. Don't forget to try the hash browns too!

Tasty treat

By windowm |

A friend recommended this place and it was our first stop in Portland. Very tasty, loved the chicken !

Enjoyed visit

By s c |

Restaurant recommended by counter man at rental car agency. Small wait outside. Everyone wearing masks. Notice posted on table telling you to keep mask on til food served. Order at counter then get a table. Food was delicious. Service good. Had the club biscuit. Homemade blue cheese dressing. Good snicker-doodle cookie.

Delicious breakfast!

By Alyssa |

Brilliant breakfast spot, had the Reggie sandwich and it was super tasty and filling but without being greasy or overwhelming. Bit of a queue when we first arrived, you order food at the counter and then find a seat but it is well worth the wait.

Biscuits are terrific

By Rosie L |

Very casual but many choices. Went just to try the biscuits so I chose just the build your own with egg and cheese. So many other options. Very tasty

The Reggie Deluxe is a must eat in Portland!

By freebirdjina |

This one of the spots that many people have recommended that I visit when in Portland. I ordered the Reggie Deluxe and thank goodness I did. Can't get any better than this folks. Fried chicken with bacon, cheese, egg and topped with gravy in between 2 delicious biscuits. I don't really eat heavy and I didn't think this was too heavy at all. Every bite was delicious and I would definitely come back on my next visit.

A family favorite

By OlyGirl65 |

Despite a wait, the food is delicious. The servings are huge and it's a fully satisfying breakfast or brunch. Recommend the shrimp & grits and of course the biscuits are amazoids!

Delicious!

By Sacha L |

We ordered biscuits with sausage gravy and the Reggie deluxe and both did not disappoint. The food was prepared quickly and was tasty. Definitely worth tryjng

Better than your Grandma’s biscuits!

By Adrian D |

Visited Pine State Visits on recommendation from a coworker and a friend and I was not disappointed! The menu was completely overwhelming with delicious meals to choose from. The restaurant is pretty much self serve/choose your seats inside or out which I thought was cool. Because I couldn’t choose one of the staff suggested the Chatfield which was chicken, bacon, cheese and apple butter on a freshly made biscuit. Also got a side of their Hashups which were hash browns topped with melted cheese, mushrooms and grilled onions. What way to top it off than with a mimosas and lemonade to go. The sandwich: everything was cooked to perfection! All the flavors complimented each other well and that sandwich was gone before I could blink The Hashups: Can easily be a main course with how much they give you! Again, hashbrowns were made to perfection, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and perfectly seasoned! Bonus: the staff accidentally threw away my leftovers but sent me back to my hotel with several biscuits and savory cinnamon rolls big enough to be shared by 3 people! Loved this place and would definitely recommend it!

Great experience but we won’t go back

By Roy S |

Waited in line for 40 minutes to order. You sit after you order. Great menu. Lots of choices. Food was just ok If you live biskets and gravy don’t miss it

Wow just isn’t enough! Amazing food!

By Batt2 |

This place is a home run in every category. Even the wait is worth it. The biscuit selection is as diverse as it is delicious. The fact that they offer some craft cocktails and beer puts it over the top. I had a biscuit with brisket, cheddar cheese, and bacon, topped with lettuce and tomato. It was unbelievable. I washed it down with a Kitty Hawk (Arnold Palmer and whiskey) and had to add a huge plate of hash browns. I wish this place was in my home town but I would probably be 500 pounds. Indulge in this comfort food, you won’t be disappointed.

Definitely must try

By Richington |

I’ve been to Portland once a year for 5 years now and I never got around to eating here even though it was always at the top of restaurant lists. It was mainly because I imagined biscuits to be hard and dry. Not really too appetizing to me. On this last trip to Portland I was up really early and finally decided to go for it. It was definitely way better than I imagined it to be. Definitely not hard and dry. I will be coming back every year when I’m in town.

Great biscuits but long lines

By Ali Van D |

I came around lunch on a Monday and the line was still out the door, but it moved relatively quickly. The biscuits are very tasty and there are some great sandwich combos. I really liked the moneyball and the Reggie.

Reggie Deluxe was the best but there’s MORE!

By Tha 3rd 1 |

Reggie Deluxe with gravy on the side with a Bloody Mary was hands down a must do, but don’t sleep on their Club with Brisket and bacon 🥓, side of homemade blue cheese dressing and a nice bourbon 🥃lemonade... We will be back for sure! Thank you so much for all the goods...

Amazing!!

By cherrybelle77 |

I've been wanting to try Pine State Biscuits and The Reggie for years!! Today I finally got to mark it off my bucket list and man did it exceed my expectations. The Biscuits are amazing just in themselves but when you add the fried chicken bacon and gravy well your made a masterpiece. I would have liked to try the deluxe cause I think the egg would have added a great element to it (but since I was sharing and other don't like egg I went without). I wish I lived closer cause I would be here a lot (which is probably good for my waistline) if your visiting Portland don't leave without coming here at least once.

A new experience

By Jankees Rovers |

We love this place. But honestly we didn’t know what to order. These are quite weird breakfast options for Europeans, but we wanted it to experience. Super friendly staff. In the end we took a biscuit with fried chicken, cheese and apple butter (apple purée) and a biscuit with mushroom gravy on the side. Two bottomless coffees and two juices. Taste was good but again strange for us as a breakfast. Maybe we should have topped it off with some fried eggs. But we were just at the beginning of our food day tour, so enough for the start :) But when you’re a foodie or just curious, visiting Portland definitely visiting this place and this street full with nice concepts. Please Portland stay weird

So good!

By nicki_wicki |

Ok. Pretty much hands down my favorite place to eat breakfast. This place never disappoints. Get there early, I mean right after they open, because a line can form within an hour. If you find yourself stuck in line....hang in there, it’s worth it.

Huge portions. Sooo good.

By Melanie D |

There was a line out the door, but as I always say, full parking lots and long lines don't lie. We shared a fries with cheese and mushroom gravy and I had a fried chicken sandwich with heirloom tomatoes on a homemade biscuit. Worth the wait.

Haven’t been here in awhile!!!!

By Monica S |

It’s been a year since we’ve eaten breakfast at Pine State Biscuits & it didn’t disappoint again. I had shrimp & grits with a biscuit in the side, the best & I just vacationed in Hilton Head, SC. It was better! Biscuit sandwich’s were stacked about 6 inches tall with a variety of flavors. Oh don’t forget to try the Apple Butter, really yummy! Nothing bad on the large menu. Choose wisely!!!!

Best breakfast of our trip!!!

By sweetdumpling |

Don’t miss this place when you are in Portland! We were on our two-week trip visiting Portland, the Oregon Coast, Seattle, Leavenworth, Victoria, Whistler and Vancouver, and this place trumped all the breakfasts we had throughout the trip and probably ranks one of the best in my lifetime! My fiancé had a Reggie Deluxe (with sausage gravy), and I had a Money Ball with bacon added to the order for an extra charge (with mushroom gravy)! Both were very very delicious. We both loved our gravies. The mushroom gravy could cater to the vegan folks. The coffee was great. The fried green tomatoes were good (though a bit on the expensive side). There was a short line of people waiting when we arrived around 8, but it wasn’t that long of a wait as they have outside seating as well. Friendly staff was a plus, too!

Not bad

By tleeEvans |

Went for breakfast one weekday. Got there before 8 am and there was no line. My husband got the biscuits and sausage gravy and an egg on the side. I got the biscuit with egg and bacon. The food is good, biscuits are good, but not the best I have ever had. The bacon was very crisp and thick, my husband liked the gravy. Their coffee is very strong, I could not drink it. I wish they had more items on their menu for people trying to cut back on calories. Biscuits are not the ideal low calorie food. This restaurant is a order at counter, they will bring out your food, and than you bus your own table when done. Lot of outside tables.

So tasty and staff super friendly.

By Kbrey |

This place offers biscuits via counter service. It’s a little pricey ($8-$12 for a sandwich) but very tasty. Biscuits are made at the store. You can watch them knead the dough while waiting to order. All if the staff was kind and patient. Some Portland spots can have some pretentious staff, this place has a great approachable vibe. The seating is challenging. Tables with a bench in one side and a backless saddle seat on the other. Made it hard for the gentleman in a wheelchair to sit at the table. The patio might have worked, but I didn’t really analyze it. I’d go back.

Hash ups are delicious!

By Jo-Ann R |

Hash up with an egg was perfect. Huge portion so I had enough for breakfast next day. My daughter had the Moneyball. It was excellent. Good coffee!

Good food!

By heidzters |

Great breakfast spot! The mushroom gravy and biscuits are my fav! My husband loves the Reggie. Just the biscuits and bacon alone are deeeelish!

Great concept, delicious food.

By seann693 |

The biscuits are big, homemade and oh so good. I had the one with fried chicken, bacon, egg, cheese and cream gravy. It was so big that I ate off of it twice. It stayed in my memory for days. That's a good meal!

Best Breakfast Sandwich!

By Adam B |

We were at the farmers market and stopped by their food truck to grab one. Best biscuit with chicken ever! Freshly made biscuits and really good chicken! Make a point of checking this place out!

Food made by children for children

By Seasoning king |

Shame on the corporation that does not train their employees to bake or fry and feed folks over the age of forty five. Under cooked biscuits and over cooked fried chicken. A half a cup of Ranch dressing drowning the food. Clearly if you are under forty five you will five star this place. Children will eat anything and recommend it to friends and tourists. And to think this chain has been getting away serving un editable garbage since it was opened.

Simple, delicious biscuits + gravy

By Nichole F |

We weren't in the mood for chicken, but opted for several biscuits with sides of each gravy. The biscuits, for being so tall, were pretty perfect. And the sausage gravy, while delicious, was beat out by the mushroom. (My mouth is watering just thinking of it!)

Yummy, yummy for my tummy!

By Extraordinary533815 |

Surprised by how fast the line moved, not surprised by the line. So good. Had the greens biscuit, not a misprint, they used greens and I so needed the vegetables. The BF had the biscuits and gravy, the highlight of his culinary trip, and they were fabulous. Will have to go back to try the mushroom gravy.

Great breakfast in a unique location

By Dmc0221 |

Great food. Biscuits with lots of choices for toppings. Sitting at the bar gives you a first hand view of the biscuiteers at work. This is a small space with lots of take out business. The space is chilly this time of year. Be prepared for that and enjoy this fun experience with great food to boot.

Excellent food, great atmosphere!

By Mike P |

This place completely satisfied my crave for grits. I had the shrimp and grits with a biscuit on the side. Both were so yummy!

Not Yo Average Biscuit!

By gottavaca |

Three of us arrived on a Saturday morning about 9:30am. There was a small line out the door. It moved pretty fast. We were able to get three seats at the counter inside by asking another patron if they would move down a seat. I had the CLUB biscuit with chicken and I asked them to make is spicy (they dunked it in buffalo sauce). Since it was already smothered with their homemade blue cheese dressing it was the perfect choice. No regrets. Totally legit. My husband had the BBQ Biscuit. He loved it as well. We would definitely eat here again when we are in the area.

WONDERFUL

By MarineAir10 |

If you are looking for good food at a very moderate price, this is the place. We came for breakfast and were so pleased that we returned for lunch! This is some real southern style cooking. It is a small place and tends to get full fast so plan ahead and Ev en then you might have a bit of a wait. But it’s worth it. Great staff.

Great biscuits!

By Abbyny |

My husband, my daughter and I went to the Division Street location 2 days in a row, both times about 10:30 am. On Thursday there was no line but on Friday we had to wait about half an hour. No problems finding places to sit either time. This is a great breakfast/lunch place. I got the biscuits and sausage gravy the 1st day. The 2nd day u I had a biscuit with fried chicken, cheddar and sausage gravy. My husband doesn’t eat meat and had lots of choices.

Do your tastebuds a favor...

By TheHappyFlutist |

I knew this place was going to be good, but I didn’t know that I was about to be treated to one of the best breakfasts in my life. Get the Reggie (or the Reggie Deluxe if you want egg on it). It had fried chicken, cheese, bacon, and sausage gravy all on a delicious biscuit. It was some of the best fried chicken I have ever tasted, and I live in the south. Treat yourself and eat here at least once, maybe twice. I would eat here consistently if I lived in Portland.

A must for breakfast

By Chuckandkim |

You have to have breakfast here the selection and creative conscious behind the menu is amazing. And it’s so goooood you’ll want to go back for more

Breakfast

By Bryan M |

Long line to get in. Hipsters galore. Good food but so busy service is average. Avoid weekends and you may have better luck with this place.

A MUST!!!!

By Cantrell13 |

After reviewing several breakfast places in Portland we decided to try Pine State. So glad we did... Cool atmosphere, friendly service & most importantly the food was amazing.. Next time I’m in Portland, you will definitely see me there.

The best breakfast ever!

By mcox77 |

If you want the tastiest, carbiest, put you in a food come kind of food, try this place. The staff are all super friendly and the food is amazing. The Reggie deluxe is not for the faint of heart. A biscuit topped with a piece of fried chicken, bacon, cheddar, a fried egg and smothered in their amazing gravy. I think I may have died and went to heaven!

Portland Tradition

By Paula Z |

A Portland institution for good reason! The first thing you see when you walk in are smiling faces! Very willing to help first timers wade through their great menu. I didn't get the lady's name that served us but she was great! Biscuits, as you would expect, are phenomenal, but the biggest surprise were the pancakes. Made with corn meal the texture and flavor were delicious!

Delicious

By Aprile M |

Really enjoyed going here this morning delicious breakfast had the Reggie and the lemonade was delicious as well

Totally worth it

By Nicholas R |

I say the reviews on the internet and thought to myself this is a must try. Im so glad that I went, the food was amazing and the service was simply the best.

Busy, fun, tasty!

By TravelsForBeer |

Amazing place for breakfast/brunch. Plan on a little bit of a wait though. Food was very tasty. While waiting we could see the biscuits being prepared. Real quality. Bloody Mary was really good as well. Service very friendly. Nice atmosphere.

Could have been great!

By DJSparks45 |

Stopped in last week and got the Reggie with an egg and my wife got the biscuits and gravy with two eggs over easy on top. The food tasted great but both plates the food was just warm and not hot. Had the food been hot I would have rated much higher!

Go! Go! Go!

By Rotstern |

We had a biscuit with brisket and the blueberry pancakes! Both were sooooo good! Pancakes were so fluffy and rich. Never tried pancakes with corn before but this is definetely a must try! The biscuit was on point, nut a usual one. And the brisket was good also. Would defintely go again!

Bad experience

By Daydream47732270093 |

Ordered a wedge salad that is supposed to come with bacon, fried onions and blue cheese dressing. ..didn't mention that they ran out of the fried onions and put ranch dressing instead of blue cheese dressing....must have run out of that too. My grandson ordered brisket instead of chicken on his biscuit and it was pure fat!

Yummy, but a but much

By Dayna |

Extensive breakfast all day menu. Biscuits were great. Even just ordering a simple biscuit with jam would have sufficed. I ordered something really over the top and did not finish it. It was still good with meat and gravy etc, but I left feeling too uncomfortably full. Prices average. Very long line.

Amazing

By J A |

I had one of the best biscuit chicken sandwiches I have ever had! Not the way to loose weight, but definitely the way to live life now and then.

VERY FILLING

By Teresa P |

We wanted to try a bit of everything so my friends & I ordered a verity of things from the menu and shared them . It was a GREAT Idea and worked out well. this is how we discovered that the biscuits they use for Butter & jelly are different then the ones they used for the fried chicken. they were both Good Though the one that come wit Jelly & butter was a bit more MELT IN YOUR MOUTH and made you want more. Corn Dog was cooked to Perfection - I did not have to wait to go to the fair. Yummy . WE stood in line for about 40 minutes but once we ordered it was not long and food was at our table. The Reggie Deluxe was amazing I will We will be coming back soon

best biscuits & gravy (and Arnold Palmers)

By Sab Lou P |

I visited the SE Division location. Living in UK, there is nowhere to get biscuits and gravy which is one of my favorite breakfast items, so every time I visit the US I have it for breakfast at least once. When in Portland last week, I chose Pine State based on the reviews and my only regret is that I was only able to go once. I had the biscuits with sausage gravy, a small side of hashbrowns (which was big enough for two), an Arnold Palmer, and I also shared a slice of pecan pie and a cinnamon roll. Everything was amazing (except the cinnamon roll, see below). The biscuits had loads of very delicious, perfectly spiced gravy on them, but I did manage to get a bite without it. Perfect texture, crumb, and flavor. I wish I had ordered one with butter and jam. The hashbrowns were also excellent, not too dry, nice amount of spice to them but just the slightest bit too salty for me--I don't eat much salt so most people would find them perfectly salted. The Arnold Palmer was the best I'd had and I had a lot in Portland. Generously sized, perfect balance of sweet and tart. Just wonderful. The pecan pie wasn't like the usual kind with the pecans on top and goo in the middle--it was a lot more pecans and mixed with the goo. So good and it came with really nice cream. The only thing I didn't absolutely love was the cinnamon roll - it was a bourbon caramel one, and it was good, but I prefer the kind with lots of cinnamon sugar butter goo in the middle and with icing. TL;DR - Go to Pine State Biscuits, fabulous food!

I want some more

By GlobetrotterBella |

If you don’t want to wait in line, go on a weekday. Service was fast. I ordered the Veggie Reggie and Fried green tomatoes at the counter. I then found myself a seat outside and waited for my food. You will have to get your own utensils. They are inside. They also have water and cups inside. At the end of your meal, you can bus your own table The veggie Reggie was a biscuit smothered in gravy and cheese. Smack in the middle of that is vegetarian sausage and bacon. Yum! The fried green tomatoes weren’t bad, but they weren’t great either. They were missing flavor. I did see some awesome dishes coming out. Probably a good place to return to.

The Best Breakfast in Portland!

By Joe_B |

The breakfast taste better than anything I have ever had. "The Reggie" is the sandwich to order. Call ahead to avoid the loooooong line at/outside the entrance. I have been here a dozen times.

Over the top

By ajpinn |

There Were so many options that were unusual that I didn’t actually understand them. This is an order at the counter and they deliver type casual restaurant. We went for breakfast. I was not all that hungry but had a fabulous biscuit with jam and butter. The food that was walking past me looked like it was over the top. Sort of a biscuits and anything you could think of to put on them. All portions looked huge however. And still everyone who was eating there had plates and plates of food. My husband had a biscuit with some sausage on it and said it was very good

A must when in Portland!

By Dylan Adkinson |

The best breakfast meal we had on our trip! Biscuits are perfect and the gravy is great! Get there when they open to beat the crowd!

Fantastic breakfast

By Art F |

Wife and son came with me on this foodie tour of Portland. After a fantastic meal at Le Pigeon, we came here for the Reggie sandwich for breakfast. The fried chicken sandwich was served with bacon and bleu cheese was a great sandwich. The chicken was a large hunk with 2 slices of thick bacon. Parking was easy and while the inside portion of the restaurant was tight, there is a covered patio which had a large seating area. Coffee was nice and strong and fresh squeezed orange juice came in a generous tall glass. Check this place out!

A breakfast gone wrong

By BlackAngus |

After all the hype and reviews on this place I was expecting much more. First I Stood in line for 20 minutes, then I went to use bathroom which was filthy, smelly and flies buzzing around. After receiving my breakfast sandwich they had forgotten the egg. This place is not worth the hype . Overpriced for the quality of food and condition of atmosphere

Good Southern breakfast, but slow

By alv_719 |

We visited on a Tuesday morning around 8:15am and while only one person was ahead of us in line, we still waited 25+ minutes for our food to come out. We sat at the bar and could see that while things are made to order, its just frying an egg as everything else is pre-prepared. The portions were huge and I definitely could've split it with my husband, but the flavors were on point and super filling. Overall I would go back, but I wouldn't wait in an astronomical line for it.

Tasty breakfast !!

By Viajera-MLW |

Whether there is a seat left when I arrive, or not, it is sure worth the wait for breakfast! Delicious, substantial, home cooking abundance and friendly atmosphere. Wait staff is professional. Great way to launch my day!

Yummy!

By kristin |

Delicious! I had the Money Ball which is biscuits and gravy with an egg and my hubby had The Reggie. Both were delicious and huge. We sat at the bar and watched them cook. Everything looked so yummy!

Go!

By Kristy m |

Very friendly service. Relaxed atmosphere. I got the Reggie with fried green tomato. So, so good. Great bloodies as well.

It was ok, but not up to the hype.

By Mike S |

Always up to try something new, privately owned and not a chain (which I guess they are though, with multiple locations)...reviews were great so we thought to give it a try. I got “the Reggie”....it was good, but not enough gravy to account for the dryness of the biscuit and fried chicken. Could have ordered more gravy had I known, but while the taste was good, it was just too dry for my liking. Prices weren’t cheap, but not crazy high either if that makes any sense? Lots of people and the atmosphere was nice, just not spectacular for me. Maybe something different would have been great? Can’t say for sure.

Come early for amazing biscuits!

By Sawadeeann |

I initially didn’t want to come here due to mixed reviews and it being popular which to me meant: long wait. Well, we arrived within half hour of it opening, people were already seated but not overly busy. You order inside and it goes by pretty quick. You find a table and they bring you the food. Bus your own table. Hipster? Yes. Delish? Absolutely yes. I had to order the biscuit with apple spread ($4) and I’m not a biscuit lover but I have to admit-it is all the rage. They’re huge and fluffy on the inside. I split it with the kid. I also ordered the hashups ($9) which was a whole plate and shared that as well. It’s topped with grilled sweet onions, cheese and mushrooms. Everything was absolutely delicious and food came out promptly. There are tables outside as well to eat. When we left, there definitely was a line, but it goes pretty quick-as long as people are mindful and leave after eating instead of socializing. I would definitely return to this establishment and go early.

Best Biscuits and Gravy!

By Naoko G |

Obviously I didn’t take a picture of the biscuits and gravy, but you can get some on a chicken sandwich! We loved it on the first day so we came back on the next day. If we had more time we’d try other items on the menu! There are two types of gravy and they are both awesome.

Delicious breakfast

By Shelby F |

The food is amazing!! The portions are BIG! The Reggie Deluxe and the club with smoked brisket were amazing! We will be back for sure!

Delicious large biscuits!

By LizzieLemon22 |

I stopped by after arriving in Portland on an early morning flight. Food was delicious and portions were large (think more small hamburger than typical breakfast biscuit). Not a lot of indoor seating, but there is some sidewalk seating and a covered patio so lots of seating options available.

Comfort food

By katpew |

At 1p in a Thursday, my husband and I arrived to find a small line, which moved quickly. We sat out back at a picnic table and blew up spaceships waiting for our food to come (12 mins). Fried green tomatoes were crispy and perfect-not greasy at all. Biscuit with apple butter, chicken, bacon and cheese was delicious when hot, but chicken and cheese were meh after cooling. Double down was huge - a full plate of biscuits and gravy topped with two eggs. All in all, very memorable. Room for improvement: The only salad on the menu is a wedge of iceberg lettuce with goo, which is too bad. Long line for a single restroom. Tables were available and had been self-bussed, but still were crumb and ketchup laden. To be fair, we arrived at the end of the lunch rush.

Not bad

By TravelingDad_PTFC |

Got here about 9:30 on a Saturday morning & the line was out the door. About 15 minutes later we ordered our food & both got the Reggie Deluxe. It was pretty tasty, but we are used to the Incredible Flying Biscuit at Word of Mouth in Salem, so this came up a little short of expectations. Biscuit was warm & fresh & wing sauce on the table was a nice touch. I had a bloody & my wife had a mimosa, both were very good as well. Worth going to, for sure.

Delicious!!

Just go for it! You are on vacation! Do the biscuits and gravy, do the pancakes, do it all it’s delicious.

Oh So Good

By PudgeWashington |

When you visit Portland you must also endure the wait and enjoy Pine State Biscuits. For your benefit, I understand that there are 3 of them. Go hungry and I guarantee that you will walk (or waddle) away fulfilled. Regardless of what you order, you can count on it including one of their wholesome, made on the spot, delicious biscuits. And, if you are so inclined, order one of their day time cocktails, in addition to coffee, water, and/or juice. Guaranteed to enjoy because everything is oh so good!

Creative Spin on typical Biscuits

By tattooedtravelOT |

I love the small intimate space of Pine State Biscuits and the diner feel where you can see meal prep occurring. This menu is unique and has something for everyone. Not a huge fried chicken fan, yet here it's mouthwatering! I come back everytime i'm in the city. Line moves quick, worth the wait.

Showstopper : The Reggie Deluxe

By Walksy22 |

Drove straight to Pine State Biscuits after landing at PDX as it had been a couple of years since I'd been. I debated on what to have as everything looks fantastic here. I went with the Reggie Deluxe and it was phenomenal. Fried chicken, bacon & cheese & a fried egg between a biscuit topped with gravy ?? Are you kidding me ?? My only disappointment with the gravy - I expected it hot but it was lukewarm at best.

Biscuit love

By susankrubl |

Great biscuits, great food with biscuits. Great strawberries and biscuits, great biscuits and gravy. They are sooo good. They are a very busy restaurant.

Amazing!

By JennD |

I have been wanting try a Pine State for years. So glad we made the trip across the bridge. Everything was great the biscuits, gravy, coffee, pancakes, and hash browns. Service was friendly too.

Fantastic breakfast worth the wait!!

By Mackenzie E |

This is a very popular place and it has its reasons! They serve the most amazing fried chicken and biscuits (it was called the Reggie). I also tried the gravy and cheesy fries they were amazing!!

So good!

By angeladawn |

This was my second visit to Pine State Biscuits and I’ll sure go back anytime I’m in Portland! This trip I got to try more since we all shared: the best sausage gravy, homemade blueberry basil pop tart, and cinnamon roll! I have tried the Reggie and the Chatfield biscuits, both excellent. I will say that the chicken isn’t as fresh as I would like. But aside from that it is awesome!

Popular for good reason!

By Michael |

This place has always been busy, and the reason is simple: the food is just that good. Great value, friendly staff, menu options ranging from classic to creative, and of course the flakiest most buttery biscuits all make this place a Portland staple. Will be a forever fan.

It lives up to the hype!!!

By Coolthingstravel |

There’s been a lot said about the Reggie Deluxe and Pine State Biscuit. Every once of praise is well deserved. The BEST sandwich in perhaps America. They have cold beer, they have fresh ingredients, they have it all. Forever you have my heart Pine State. Do yourself a favor and go. I’d even risk (and have) being late to your flight in order to eat here.

Excellent Biscuit

By Scott T |

Went midmorning during the week so the wait was minimal. I had the Reggie with an egg. Overall a very good sandwich. Specifically, the biscuit was great - not too dry and nice & flaky. The chicken and bacon were very good. The sausage gravy was a bit too peppery for my taste and I would have preferred a little larger portion to sop up with my biscuit.

Oh my biscuit!

By Stacy R |

Heard great things about this place and they lived up to it. Went on a Saturday and the line was about 15 deep. They had ran out of the monte Cristo special so I just ordered biscuits. I was disappointed until I got the biscuits! So good! They are on another level. Just a little butter and jam was enough. A lot of people ate with gravey as well.

Good quick breakfast

By nrkmann |

Service: A bit slow. Sitting at the bar could see my plate but had to wait for a server to bring it around to me. Food: very good biscuits and gravy Ambiance: Portland warehouse so quite nosie.

A Great Place

By Cindy F |

Thursday 12:30 pm, a short wait to order and the food was served very quickly. Community style seating. Parking was not a problem for us. Staff not unfriendly, pizza- whole or by the slice- looked good but the usual pizza aroma was missing. Both the Wedgie and the Reggie Deluxe were so large I was too overwhelmed to snap a picture. Biscuits were not heavy. Gravy has a great flavor. Crispy chicken (maybe a bit dry) and the biscuit had a nice crisp too. A sampling of their bourbon cinnamon roll was offered to everyone- couldn’t pass them up- very tasty. What a great food experience. Background tunes were a bonus.

So Much Fun...

By Timmuse64 |

First off, the Biscuits are pretty damn good and we can all agree and move on. Now let's get into the meat of it, this place was so much FUN! My daughter and I were making our way through Portland via our food 'trip ticket' (yes, all you gray hairs understand the old AAA trip ticket, before the Google founders where born:) and we came across this establishment. Yes there was a line (breathe, slow down and smell the biscuits) and we engaged the other people waiting with conversation and laughter. We get to the counter to order and again we engaged and communicate with the host/cashier/order taker, who was absolutely hilarious, entertaining and great fun! We sat at the counter where we engaged in conversation with the cooks and the manager who was running orders to the tables. This place was just flat out FUN! It has been a long time since I really had a dining experience that I left and wished I could come back to weekly just to engage the staff in silly, non-political banter. Go for the biscuits but stay for the STAFF!

Biscuits and Gravy

By laura w |

While it was yummy food at a fair price, I was kind of shocked at how long the line was, because it wasn't anything unique or over the top. I would definitely go back, but only if there wasn't a line around the building. The fried chicken on the sandwich is unique, and they have a fun specials board.

Rainy Sunday morning.

By NLS |

Perfect Sunday morning in the rain to have a biscuit breakfast with grown children. From the fresh juice, hot coffee and biscuit breakfast creations the experience was just what we needed. Pinned to return again.

Tasty quick bite

By Nadia L |

Hot biscuits baked fresh, add your favorite protein and toppings..... delicious! I had the chicken with honey, talk about salty/sweet satisfaction! Note they’re only open until 3pm!

Amazing Breakfast and Strong Coffee

By Kristen D |

My friends and I came here for breakfast before a day of hiking and touristy activities. The menu was amazing and it was so hard to choose. I was impressed with the quick service, self serve coffee station, and the food was amazing. Love the gravy options and everything was cooked to perfection. Don’t be shy, get the fries and gravy! Highly recommend for small groups.

BLT biscuits

By Allison L |

I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant! We sat outside. My friend and I both ordered the BLT Biscuit Sandwich. The sandwich was huge! I had to cut it to eat it! The biscuit was big and fluffy. The bacon was over-cooked and hanging from the sandwich. I would prefer the bacon not quite so cooked and cut in half so it will fit on the biscuit. Other than that, I would recommend the place and I would probably go there again if I made a return trip to Portland.

Incredible!!

By Camp CDA |

Pine State is amazing. Their biscuits are the real deal and their options like buttermilk fried chicken with all the fixings are tough to beat. Yes, there will be a wait. Always. But for some great southern food Portland style it's a must.

Very Good Biscuits and Gravy

By Kent S |

Pine State Biscuits is a very popular eatery. The sausage gravy is exceptional and the biscuits are good. Topped with a perfectly cooked egg, this is a delicious breakfast but one that should be eaten sparingly. If you go at the normal meal times, be prepared to wait. At off hours one can generally walk in, order, and eat with no problem. Service is decent (food delivery) but you will have to fetch your own eating utensils and coffee. Prices are reflective of the popularity of the place.

Biscuits are the jam!

By Tonya H |

Amazing biscuits! I’m a southern girl and love a good sweet tea! They did not disappoint. The perfect amount of sweetness. I love to try fried green tomatoes anytime I see them on a menu. Wasn’t as crazy about them. They were ok but not something I would order from there again. I’m very critical of sausage gravy. Where I am from, salt and pepper are the only 2 spices used. Since living in the PNW, finding the perfect gravy has been a challenge. Most places add additional spices and it’s just not for me. It is a fan favorite I have noticed. The Pine State gravy was similar to what I have experienced at other restaurants. Just not my jam. Now let’s talk about the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwich!!!! That was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Very filling and the right amount of food. Would definitely order that again and again! The seating is a bit challenging because it is so small. Fun enough! Love it!

Worth the wait

By blinschoten |

Good sign! Line out the door and around the corner. Moves fast! Ordered the Reggie Deluxe, spicy. Fried chicken dunked in house buffalo sauce, bacon, choice of gravy (brown or sausage) over-easy egg on a biscuit. Could be a sandwich but recommend silverware. OMG delicious!!! Downfall, ran out of coffee and didn’t refill. A lot of folks waiting on one pot of coffee. Once filled, did not meet the standard of this retired military taste bud.

Breakfast

By Jennifer M |

It was vary good. I love how good the biscuits were. It cool area where they located in Portland. The food was delicious and fast.

Great filling breakfast

By Terri K |

I got the veggie Reggie deluxe and the fries with mushroom gravy to share, delicious! This was a very filling breakfast and there is a wait so getting there early is a good idea. Visited from Baltimore, I knew I had to try this place.

WOW

By aprince707 |

I was walking down NE Alberta this weekend and was shocked to see a long line for a restaurant that specializes in BISCUITS? Somewhat surprised, I ordered a six-pack of biscuits to see first hand why people are standing in line in 35 degree weather. These biscuits are delicious (and very big). I could see what folks were out here in line. The restaurant itself has a number of dishes with these biscuits. Can't wait to go back and try some of the menu items!

Great brunch on a week-day

By AcornOwl |

Three of us had a lovely brunch here on a week-day. It was very hot outside and they limited some of the items, so as not to heat the place up even more. Despite that, there was plenty on the menu and we thought the food was delish. We sat inside in the shade and it was just fine. The Arnold Palmer ice tea was especially cooling.

Delicious food for a good price !!!

By FellowTraveler286372 |

Very satisfied for our first time visiting this famous restaurant--service was quick, simple food choices, delicious menu, good beer, and reasonable prices !!!

Carb loading at it's best!

By LindaPixChick |

My bro-in-law took the hubby and me to Pine Street Biscuits on a Monday morning around 9am - you'd think we'd avoid the line at this time, no such chance. This place always has a line out the door and for good reason. The biscuits are great. And kudos for serving Mexican Cokes too! I would go back again.

Honest to Goodness Stick to Your Ribs Good!

By Michie1291 |

What an incredible meal! We came here after a morning hike to the Pittock Mansion. We had really gotten our exercise in and headed here for breakfast. We waited in line for about 10 minutes, but who care about that. What that should tell the world is that place is totally worth the wait, but loosen up your waist band and toss your “I don’t eat carbs” off the list for just one day. Biscuits made from scratch on the premises and loaded up with everything imaginable. I had fried chicken, pickles, mustard, and honey sandwiched between to homemade biscuits. I threw on a sunny side egg just because. I also spied some fried green tomatoes on the menu and added them to my breakfast as a side. Crispy, tangy and I ate every bite! Get your bottomless cup of coffee and sit inside or outside on the patio or the tables right in front of the restaurant. Check out the photos posted. And yes, they all tasted as good as they look. We were a large party of 8 and our meal came out quickly from the kitchen. The bill was about $110 for all of us. Great bargain and an even better meal.

Superior Breakfast, with Lots of Calories

By Hungry Roadtripper |

I went up to the wait staff after a recent breakfast and told them that, if I ever had had a better breakfast, I could not remember it. The Reggie biscuit is outstanding, and big enough to keep you going all day. Fried chicken, bacon, and gravy is not my usual fare, but since I was on a long road trip, it was well worth deviating from sound nutrition. The "Proud Mary" coffee was first rate, and the Portlandia atmosphere seemed authentic and not manufactured. Definitely worth a return visit.

Wow - Great Breakfast

By David B |

We were in Portland for a multi-day business meeting and we were looking for someplace different after all the convention meals. We found the reviews on TripAdvisor and off we went for breakfast. Had to wait a bit given it was Saturday morning and it was obviously popular with the locals. Well worth the wait! Fabulous breakfasts! The biscuits were totally hot and fresh, the gravy wonderful and the biscuit combos totally unique and imaginative. Super pleased with the service, the food and the atmosphere. Totally recommend Pine State if you are anywhere near!

Large portions

By Carlee C |

We went here on our first trip to Portland. We went on a chilly, snowy weekend, which had a great impact on the lines, as we got there around 9:15 on a Saturday morning and there was no line. We were spoiled the day before at Screen Door so we had very high expectations for this place as well, and unfortunately the food just didn’t meet them. We both got the reggee deluxe, and while it was good, it’s not something I would need to race back for. I think I would have been happier with just the biscuit and gravy as the chicken wasn’t my favorite. Inside is tiny, but there is outside seating (not so appealing in 30 degree weather) but we did find a place to sit. You should try it, but not if you need to wait in the massive lines described in other reviews.

Cool place for biscuits

By Professor D |

Cool place to try various biscuits. I got the pulled pork with their tangy and slightly spicy sauce with what seems to be a vinegar base.

Not the Same

By GAIL W |

We visited Pine State about 3 years ago and it was truly fantastic -- biscuits light as air and delicious! Butter and jam was all they needed to send us into rapture. This visit in Oct, 2022, not so much rapture. Not light and fluffy, a bit too baked and hard, and the gravy for the biscuit-and-gravy dish was very forgetable. They still do a good business, but the biscuits have lost their magic for us.

Good biscuits and fixins' ... but biscuits and fixins'.

By CTeverywhere |

This is definitely a good place to have biscuits, no argument here. Fun to watch them make them, tasty when they come out, lots of options to go with them. But in the end... it's biscuits? I am not really sure the (rather long standing!) trend of standing in line at popular times is warranted. Standing in line for ... biscuits? Really? First world problem.

Best Buscuits!!!!

By B. Darst |

You have to go here when in Portland. The biscuits are amazing!! I have been in twice on my visits to Portland and I have ordered the biscuits and gravy. The other people I have been with have ordered the biscuits sandwich and other menu items and they have also loved their food!! I would suggest going early because there can be a line out the door. The prices are also amazing. You will not be disappointed.

Reggie Deluxe

By Googlegyrl503 |

There's a line most of the time but well worth the wait. Their cocktails are tasty and even their Arnold Palmer's are good. Try the hash UPS or fried green tomatoes. Regardless you can't go wrong.

I liked this restaurant but..

By kaemicha |

I was looking forward to a healthy portion of biscuits and gravy, which I got but the gravy was odd. Not any kind of gravy I've had before so I just thought it was ok..but the food was great.

Not Impressed

By James G |

We each had a "build your own" biscuit; my wife's was egg and cheese (the type of cheese was a mystery), and mine was egg, cheese, and smoked brisket. The smoked brisket was very good, but my wife and I agreed I make better biscuits at home. My wife liked the coffee; I didn't. We wanted to get an order of Hushpuppies, but we were informed they are pre-made with bacon in them, and my wife is a vegetarian, so we ordered "Hashups" instead. (Management, if you're listening, a vegetarian Hushpuppy option would be nice) The Hashups were made from good hash browns, and the added onions were good, but the mushrooms appeared to be from a can, and again, mystery cheese. Service was good and fast, but you pour your own coffee and water, and bus your own table. The music inside is too loud for comfortable conversation. This location is wheelchair accessible and has both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant is pet friendly - outdoors. Will we return? Probably not.

Pretty Good

By 569austink |

The sausage gravy fries are AMAZING. the biscuit sandwich is alright too, but being from the south it’s hard to compare biscuits from home.

Discriminates against disabled persons

By CD00 |

Food was awesome. However, not enough seating. People stood while eating. I am disabled and no one, seriously no one offered me their table or even half a chair. Staff made me come get my one food instead of bringing it to me. Another patron brought it to me ..God love him. He also allowed me to share his table when no one else did. Portland's population is rude and uncaring. The other locations are all the same. Since they are so popular, there should be areas designated for handicap seating. Every other diner has handicap seating or handicap tables. Pine State Biscuits needs to get on board and better serve the handicap citizens in their community.

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing

By bbaker5555 |

Had a late breakfast with my daughter at the new location in NW Portland in July. A few years ago, I had breakfast at the NE location. It was terrific and was happy to have a location on the west side. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing for me. I want to go back and try the biscuits and gravy again. Also have heard the fried green tomatoes are really good. So honestly, I’d recommend based on their long standing high quality.

Wow, amazing food

By TucsonTraveller2 |

Went to Pine State Biscuits for breakfast at 9am on a Saturday. There was a line around the building, but there are windows to watch your fresh biscuits made to make time go by. It took maybe 20min before we were able to order our meal, you order at the register, then find a seat. I ordered the Reggie deluxe, Fried chicken, bacon & cheese topped with gravy with egg($10.50), another ordered the Reggie which is the same as the Deluxe but without egg($9), another the Monty Cristo Biscuit which was a special with French Toast biscuit, Chicken, bacon, egg, gravy ($9), and the last The Moneyball, Biscuit and gravy topped with an over easy egg with extra biscuit($9.50). The food came pretty quickly, less than 10 min(they bring out your meals), and we all enjoyed our meals. They are very large and tasty. Well worth the wait.

Good food but needs some efficiency

By jr H |

Took an hour on line to reach register in a hot sun. One person taking orders and credit cards. Multiple groups of millennials all paying separately with debit cards worsens the flow. Food was as expected unhealthy but delicious biscuits. Gravy and meats. For Portland coffee was disappointing. Definitely an experience but wouldn’t wait an hour again

Delicious!!

By gotthetravelinbug |

This place was hands down the family favorite on our Oregon trip. The kids each got the biscuits and gravy with an over easy egg, which was a good size plate, and they ate every bite. The adults got the Reggie deluxe sandwich and relished every bite. We wish this place was close to home for us!

Super Breakfast

By travelerkent |

My wife and I s loom go out for breakfast. I am so glad that we did and picked this place, it was awesome. I had the Reggie Deluxe. Biscuit, fried chicken, cheese, bacon and the best gravy I have had in forever. My wife got the biscuit with fried chicken, pickles and syrup. Great place to go.

OK Food, Not so great service.

By james98648 |

I've been passing by Pine State Biscuits ever time I visit Alberta for the past few years. The long line out front has always kept me from going in. Yesterday I happened to be in the area and, noticing that there was no wait, decided to give the place a shot. This was right at lunch time. After unsuccessfully trying to order three items on the menu that they were out of, I was finally able to order a biscuit sandwich and a beer. While they were both decent, the food was certainly nothing to go out of my way for. The service was lackluster at best. Considering that I had also had to bus my own table, not sure what the tip was for.

Fantastic biscuit

By Chloe T |

I love a biscuit, one of my top three breakfast preferences and Pine State did not disappoint. I didn’t try the gravy but the biscuit and apple butter were very good and portions are generous; the coffee was lush too

This is a "Must" for Breakfast

By Dyanne2014 |

This is a popular place for a good reason: the food is amazing! The biscuits and gravy are a speciality. The restaurant is casual and very busy, so be prepared to wait in line.

Nothing like southern food

By Elle1994P |

This place advertises as a Southern Restaurant, but doesn't emulate southern food that well. I say this as someone from the south. I got the biscuit and gravy meal. The gravy tasted more like Thanksgiving gravy and dressing rather than breakfast gravy. It did taste good, just not like southern food. My food also came out room temp. While the did take it back and bring a new plate, it was still room temp.

Food superb online ordering is annoying

By kjbugd |

The only reason I didn’t give a five star is you need to order online even if there. Not everyone is tech savvy and it would be a good idea to have the option to order to a waitstaff instead of computer. Otherwise the food was superb.

Yum!

By Tamrahrah |

We visited after picking up friends from the airport - a little off the beaten path and parking is a challenge but once we were there the staff was friendly and the food was amazing. We had the biscuits and gravy, cinnamon roll and biscuits with jam - really yummy and fun stop.

There's a Line for a Great Reason

By Jcwill5 |

Do fewer things, do them well, and do them again and again. That's the mantra Pine State Biscuits has had and continues to have with their entrees. Earlier today my wife and I stopped here for our last meal before leaving Portland, and we knew there'd be a line. There was. And we knew it would be worth it. It was. You stand in a long line, you order and pay at the counter, you pray there's a seat and seem to find one, your server brings you the delicious entrees you ordered, you enjoy fantastic food, and you leave with a delighted pallet and a contented tummy. That's how Pine State works. And it's in the little things--the perfectly mixed Arnold Palmers, the luxuriously seasoned grits, and the consistent excellence of their signature biscuits--that make them a standout. A well deserved five stars!

Reggie

By ceantal |

Enjoyed the Reggie (chicken, cheese, bacon, sausage gravy, biscuit). I take off the bottom biscuit so I can eat it (with a fork and knife). I wish they would have had cherry pop tarts (or apple) vs the ones offered.

++ Amazing delicious Biscuit Sandwich ++

By toto l |

It is my second day in Portland , one of my business associate she went to shown me around Portland , how the local live and eat , I find it a little strange to have your food on a biscuit , the only things I put on my biscuit is peanut butter or jam so very different concept , Wow ! my steak biscuit so unique , tasty and flavourful not soggy at all , and the onions so yummy , lot of beef filling inside like French Deep , but way better , her meal looks very interesting and tasty , restaurant open 8am to 2 pm Mon to Thurs and 7am to 3pm on Fri to Sun , not expensive , so what can a old man ask for ? great Biscuit with lot of beef and fresh hot coffee only 11am in the morning ! I can just eat this food next four days !

Mushroom gravy!

By Zachary S |

Chicken biscuit was delicious. The staff suggested mushroom gravy on it, and they were spot on! Make sure you get your biscuit with the mushroom gravy on it!

Good brunch on Alberta Street

By tmazionsmith |

I had the biscuits and gravy along with a “hash up”. I had no idea the size of the portions; it was a struggle to finish everything - I had to leave some behind. Food was excellent. Don’t expect a ton of service from the staff, as you are expected to get your own water and bus your own dishes.

Over rated

By VallGray |

Biscuit was dry and nearly burnt. Chicken dry as cardboard. Gravy amounted to about one tablespoon in quantity. That was mine. Other's in my group had basic chicken biscuit and same result. Bland, dry and overcooked. Oh FYI, I grew up in the South and have a really good idea of how this stuff should taste. Not even close.

Delicious!!

By danakuvet |

This place is so good! We go whenever we're in Portland! I also had a mimosa which was larger than most and so yummy!

fried green tomatoes were the bomb

By Jalynn M |

I love southern cooking and finding it in Portland was surprising and awesome! Such great biscuits and fantastic coffee too.

Brunch

By tcornell0913 |

Listen. I'm from North Carolina. We take biscuits very seriously there. Pine State Biscuits gave NC a run for their money. I had the Reggie Deluxe and I wish I could have eaten five of them. It was so unbelievably delicious, I couldn't stop telling my friend how delicious it was. If you don't stop at one of Pine State's locations while you're in Portland, you're doing yourself a great disservice.

Great biscuits

By Kevin B |

Really good biscuits. Tasted like a better version of a pillsbury biscuit and slightly larger but similar texture to those tube biscuits. Sausage gravy had great flavor and was a tad thinner than a traditional southern gravy which I liked. Spreads are awesome. Tried the pimento cheese and jam both excellent. Friendly service. Decent prices.

Overrated?

By AbsolomJ |

I understand why people rate this place so highly (breakfast food always gets high marks and it has its own niche when compared to other breakfast/brunch places here), but personally I left disappointed. Mostly because the hashbrowns are far too oily and salty. The biscuits are fine but I'm just not a fan of the gutbuster size (definitely felt like a brick in my stomach). I've tried it twice now just to make sure and I doubt I'll go back.

Delish!!

By traveltheworld805 |

For starters anything with biscuits has to be good. But these biscuits are amazing! Portion size is great. Even the vegan option (with mushroom gravy) was delicious. House jams/jellies were great “dessert”. Bloody Mary’s just right. Went on a Friday about 11ish only 3 people in front of us. On leaving- line was around the block. No waitstaff. Bus/clean your own table.

Pretty good biscuits but they are disorganized

By Allan S |

Their food is pretty good but the wait is interminable. We waited almost 30 minutes for our food and for breakfast it is not right. I will not wait even 15 minutes in nyc . Biscuits could be better but the food was quite good and portions were large. Careful what you order as sone items are fried pretty good.

Service is the question

By Shea D |

As always, we will start with the positives. The chicken biscuit is really good. The biscuits are pretty tasty and the chicken stays crunchy and a good dynamic for a biscuit sandwich. But can you get what you want? We came on a weekend and because of the call in orders to go, it was an hour wait just to get the hashbrowns. Somehow the people who run the joint missed the fact that those who are there to dine in should be prioritized when they are, in fact, there to dine. While to go orders do help restaurants on profitability, it may turn into a to go only establishment if they keep this up. But the biggest issue we had was the cost of the food for the service received. $12 for a chicken biscuit and nine dollars for some hash browns with no protein seems high unless you have a good service. Unfortunately this is not one of those places. You stand in line and place your order, then you take your table number with you as you collect your own silverware, water and condiments. When you are done eating there is a lovely little sign on the table informing you that it is your responsibility to bus your own table. And when you go to pay they ask you for a tip. I have a tip!

Oh yea...

By Troutbum99 |

The quality of the food meets the hype. Biscuit, egg, bacon, fried chicken, gravy...how could you go wrong.i went about 7:30AM on Saturday so it was pretty quite with no wait..line started about 8AM but wasn’t bad even then.

Mmm mmm Good!

By Saleemah M. |

I ordered “The Reggie” this is a fried chicken biscuit with bacon and sausage gravy. It was so flavorful and made to perfection. The biscuits are handmade on site, fluffy and soft. Definitely a must try if you’re traveling to Alberta street.

Great food and good atmosphere

Visited my brother and we stopped there for some biscuits and gravy. Everything on the menu looked amazing. Everything we got was great. I definitely recommend if you’re looking for something that’s pretty filling.

Everything surrounded by yummy biscuits

I have been here many times. Just about anything can be ordered between housemade biscuits or have the biscuits covered in gravy or a variety of other options. There is outdoor seating at the Alberta St site. Delicious!

we've been wanting to come here for yrs, but with the long lines, hadn't until today for lunch during covid 19 masked up.... i had a rainier, and my partner had the john daly...next, i had a mixed salad with 2 eggs on the side...my partner had the vegan veggie reggie.....we paid with a card, and sat in the tent out front with plenty of air flow...everything was excellent and came quickly...the drinks/food were excellent and the staff was nice and friendly...thx so much...

Amazing

By Momma L |

Order inside, sit outside and enjoy the most delicious biscuits ever!! You can have them as a sandwich or just alone with jam. Yum.

Great breakfast option!!

By AStriefler |

Biscuits and gravy for breakfast...you bet! They are located in somewhat of a residential area with lots of street parking. You order at the main counter and your food is brought to your table. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and is well worth ordering. Of course if coffee is your thing, then give that a try as they have a locally brewed coffee. There are a number of tables inside or an outdoor covered patio area. Don't expect a long wait for your food either...our two orders showed up within 10 minutes. We ordered a Reggie and a Make Your own option We got one extra biscuit without all the toppings to enjoy....the jam was really good and biscuit was flaky but not dry.

Go Early. Get the Reggie. Hike 10 Miles Tp Burn It Off

By Scott B |

We went to the Schuyler restaurant at 8am on Sunday and just barely beat the crowd. I had the Reggie (huge biscuit, big piece of fried chicken slathered in sausage gravy and melted cheese with a fried egg on top). The wife had special farm to fork hash with kale in it. You can’t eat this stuff every day. But once in a while it is a treat. Total bill with hot beverages was $24. Fun environment. Friendly staff. Good place to spot Millennials.

So delicious!

We both had the Reggie Deluxe and they were fantastic! Soft biscuit, nicely cooked egg, and crispy bacon. I wish I could have tried more menu items. Would highly recommended for biscuit/breakfast sandwich fans. When we left we noticed a huge queue had formed - so I'd recommend going early so you don't have to wait and can snag a table!

Great chicken biscuit

Came here for the Reggie Deluxe, chicken, bacon, cheese and gravy on an excellent biscuit. It was great. We came on a weekday mid morning to avoid long lines.

Long line but moves fast

Not a large place to eat but delicious and worth the wait. Someone recommended "The Reggie" which is what my husband got and he said it was outstanding. I got a plain biscuit with jam and it was scrumpdillyicious!

Perfect breakfast for the occasion

After a night of fun and adult beverage, the wife and I ventured to Pine State Biscuits the following morning at the Farmer’s market. Yes, the line is long, but after one bite, you understand why. The biscuits are fresh, bacon is perfectly cooked, sausage gravy is delicious. While it is a breakfast sandwich, we had to use a fork and knife to eat it. I have not eaten at their restaurants, so I cannot speak to their atmosphere or wait staff. What I can say is that their food is frickin’ awesome and much needed.

The Early Bird Gets The Biscuit

For the past few years we have walked past Pine State Biscuit on Alberta Street, wistfully and enviously checking out the long lines looking like true blue hipsters heading for the holy grail of Portland— mad biscuit experience. The issue with us is always our stubborn Seattleites refusal to stand in line. (Hence the reason we have never had Salt and Straw Ice Cream in the same neighborhood. Just his past Sunday we were walking by a little after 8 AM and there was NO LINE. So in we dashed. What happy fools we were... so many choices, so little line. We made out first selections at the counter then sat down at a table with a view off the sidewalk so we could want the biscuit lemmings who got here later line up. By 8:15 the line was out the door. At 8:45, when we left full and happy, the long was a bit down the street. Filled with biscuit and gravy fullness, we happily continued our walk in quest of more of Portland's very fine espresso, smilingly (a bit smugly) at those lining up.

Incredible Breakfast!..Seriously

This was one of the best breakfast meals I've had in a long time. If I lived near here I'd put on about 30 lbs. the first year. Their biscuits are just like homemade, and I never thought I'd have grits this far north. Wow! One mouth-explosion after another. A must-visit if you're in this neighborhood!
