Took my 8 year old here and had a sweet waitress who served us quickly. Food was delicious and the restaurant is located in a historic building. We loved the detail!

Stopped in for a late breakfast. Exceptional service - old school Cubbie style. Food was great - can’t go wrong with breakfast ( French Toast - eggs - bacon - hash browns). A must stop if your hungry.

Located in the central atrium of the Pittsfield Building. Good for lunch - beer sandwich fries. I asked for a hot pastrami on rye and I was told that there was no choice of bread. It came toasted and the amount of pastrami was adequate but would be offensive for some used to New York sized portions. Washrooms located in the basement for which you need to ask the cashier for a key.

Great place for breakfast. Fast. Excellent food. It's in the lobby of a beautiful old building. Little hard to find when we were there in June of 2019 due to construction but worth the search.

We enjoyed our first visit so much that we went back for breakfast another day also! The eggs were cooked to order, the blueberry pancakes had lots of blueberries, and the fresh squeezed orange juice was delicious. Service was quick and attentive. Would definitely recommend for breakfast for families that have picky eaters!

We stayed in the Apartments upstairs for 3 nights, we had breakfast here everyday...it was fantastic. The staff were spot on, the prices were reasonable and the food was out of this world!

The welcome is impeccable and warm. Breakfast is excellent and hearty. Unusual and very quiet place worth a visit.

Hidden Gem! TripAdvisor search for breakfast in Chicago. Liked the menu so we took the walk to Washington street on a beautiful Sunday morning. The Pittsfield building was the tallest building in Chicago when it was built in 1927. Walking in we weren’t sure until we turned the corner. Obviously a popular spot with locals. We only waited a few minutes for our table. Speedy, friendly service. Corned beef hash skillet was very tasty. Only weak spot was the coffee. Pricey and not the best. We will be back though. Other things to try on the menu. Close to Millennium Park and Millennium station

Ordered carryout for breakfast from my room at the nearby Palmer House (which is located about two blocks down the street). Even the address is listed as being on Washington, it is located in the lobby of a building and actually is accessible from Wasbash (which was handy considering it cut short my walk in a -1 degree windchill). After paying for overpriced average food the previous two days, we were THRILLED to find this place. My wife had the Mediterranean omelet and I had the Midwestern. We both loved ours, as well as the hashbrowns and rye toast. I also overpaid by $10 and when I got back to the hotel, the server at the counter called to tell me about the error. I came back, got my $10 and left a decent tip. Honesty is hard to come by these days, after all. We will definitely eat here again when in Chicago!

Bland food, a little moody service and not so nice ambiance. Toilets were only accessible with a key and were one of the grossest I've seen in a long time.

Giving it a higher rating due to the location. You are dining in the atrium of the Pittsfield building, which makes it unique. Good selection of traditional diner style breakfast choices, and attentive wait staff.

This is the craziest hidden little gem, tucked into a labyrinth of what appear to be abandoned stores from Chicago in the 1940s. My husband and I, Chicago natives, were on our way to the Egyptian Consulate to pick up our visas for an upcoming trip. On a chilly, windy January morning, we needed somewhere to grab a warm breakfast before the Consulate opened. It took us a few tries to find the place because it’s quite buried in the Pittsfield building. At first, you approach a darkened interior courtyard where people are breakfasting alfresco, and you think you’ve arrived. After you approach the host, you glance a totally different space with a 50s diner vibe waiting beyond the podium. It’s crazy! Like fraternal twins! We were directed to the back of the warm, vibrant diner half, where we warmed up with delicious food and great service. We had pancakes, bacon, hash browns and eggs - standard diner fare but very tasty. It was the whole experience that brightened us for the day and gave us the energy to complete our errand and walk back to the Metra station, warmed up and delighted! Magic!

There were five of us for lunch. Some of the food was great, some average. My chicken strips and fries were average. Frozen processed food cooked in grease. However, the fresh cooked breakfast items and steak sandwich were considered to be very good. The service at the restaurant was fine. The metal chairs were uncomfortable. Decor average.

It’s located inside a historic building in the downtown loop, next to Toni’s Patisserie and just a few steps from Millennium Park. It’s a family diner feel. Great service and delicious breakfast. Lot of selections from the menu and Reasonably priced too.

This restaurant is in the cavernous lobby of a what seems almost deserted older hotel. Despite that, once you get into the restaurant you’ll see who appear to regulars along with some tourist looking for some cheaper food. We had salads and sandwich and I’ve gotta say....it was average at best. Service was good. Seating is tight. I’d go back....but, definitely for BREAkFAST !

Great food, friendly staff and excellent service. Had a bit of Mediterranean feel mixed with Midwestern. Quiet and relaxed atmosphere hidden from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Only had breakfast, but would come back for any meal.

The service was quick and the food was great! Best breakfast place we found in Chicago! Would definitely recommend for a quick and cost effective breakfast!

There is a good selection of breakfast and lunch items. It is located in the Pittsfield Hotel lobby, easy to access if you are staying there.

It's in a very convenient location, and is in a beautiful building. It has typical diner fare, but doesn't provide it very well. Service was slow and inattentive. The food was ok, but nothing special. Same goes for the coffee.

Good food, good service reasonably priced and in a neat building. Loved the ambiance and the staff. It was a short walk from our hotel on Michigan Avenue and well worth it.

I love this cafe for several reasons: Its affordable, inside of a cool building, easy to miss (which makes it low-key), has an awesome old school vibe and the waiters/employees were very friendly and attentive. Of course, the food was very good and I didn't need to dig deep in my pockets. The service was also quite fast and I never felt like I waited long for my meals. Every time I come to Chicago, this is my breakfast spot and I make sure I visit as much as I can while I am in town. Heck, I get excited thinking about this spot when I go to Chicago. Highly recommend!

Large portions, strong coffee, friendly service. Seating available in the restored lobby of the Pittsfield Building.

Fantastic start to the day! Definitely check this place out if you like a real diner! The server Allison was on point and made a great Bloody Mary.

This being my first trip to Chicago, we really didn’t know where to have breakfast, so we just walked around the downtown area and found the Pittsfield Cafe. It turned out to be a very nice little restaurant. We, (my son and I) were seated quickly and as we looked at the menu we were given water and coffee. The menu had lots of options for breakfast and we both chose half serving of French toast, fried eggs and hash brown potatoes. Service was outstanding and food was good at a reasonable cost. I highly recommend this little cafe. Just sorry I didn’t get any photos.

Called into here twice on a recent trip to Chicago after seeing it on you tube. Building looks closed from the outside so it seems a bit like you've discovered a secret that not many people know about. Lovely friendly staff. 1st visit had breakfast and second visit just called in for some dessert. Great little spot, decent prices too. 80s music playing in the background. Can't rate the place high enough - lovely foyer as well.

We stopped in on a Sunday morning per a recommendation at our hotel and we were very pleased! Service was very nice and quick. My husband loved the skillet that he got and everything was delicious.

Old fashioned diner with great staff. Made to feel very welcome and the food is great, with a good selection on the menu. Busy on Saturday - but it wasn’t on Thursday and Friday - but the queue moved very quickly and we were seated within ten minutes.

We waited for our order to be taken long enough that we thought maybe we were supposed to go in and order to be brought out to us. I specified no onions and my food came with onions. My sandwich was OK but nothing great. My son's skillet was good he said. Setting was really neat though

Great place, stylish environment, excellent food and friendly service. As simple as this. If you want to start your day in Chicago in style go there and enjoy American food at its best.

Absolutely amazing! Kathy was a terrific server! The food was exceptional. Had the potato pancakes and they are crispy, light, flavorful and delicious! Bonus, it’s the lobby of an 18th century skyscraper and stunning!

The Pittsfield Cafe is in the lobby of the Pittsfield Building. We have enjoyed each of our breakfasts and we have settled into some favorites. My wife's favorite is the steak and egg skillet while I prefer the Santa Fe skillet with poached eggs. I have also enjoyed their eggs benedict, scrambles, and omlettes. It is not fancy menu, but it is consistently good with plenty of options.

This restaurant was in the lobby of a building. Food prices were reasonable. Food itself was unremarkable. Service was quite good and I commend the staff. Bathrooms were atrocious This restaurant charges almost 4% for using your credit card, without notifying you prior to receiving the bill. They suggest a tip percentage based on the entire bill including tax and card fee, so calculate your own tip amount yourself. While I tip generally 20% on the food and beverage total, these pricing practices are deceptive.

Great find! Chicago equivalent of the NJ Diner only better. We stumbled on this place for breakfast by accident and were richly rewarded by great food, friendly smiles and an interesting Chicago architectural context. Definitely worth a breakfast or lunch stop! But bring your appetite! Hint - the fruit and yogurt parfait is no small affair and delicious with freshly cut fruit, thick Greek yogurt and a drizzle of honey.

Every time we visit Chicago we make it a point to eat breakfast here. They have a wide variety of choices to choose from. I ordered the veggie omelette with a side of turkey sausage and my partner ordered the pastrami omelette...both were delicious! Our server Stoli provided 5 star service as if we were in a fine dining restaurant. Outstanding!

Wonderful old building, nice and quiet out of the hustle and bustle of the busy streets. Good service. To up it a notch servers would do best to explain specials to tourists. We sat out in the lobby area, inside looks retro of a begone era, loved it. Water glasses should have been larger or server needed to more on top of refills. I would recommend this restaurant to others, a lost gem! Food was hot, good and made from scratch. Friendly, and fast service.

We ate here a few times while we stayed here in chicago. It’s a great place to eat breakfast or dine. The food was GREAT! The staff is polite.

We were there for lunch. The number of people who were there made us think the place was good. We ate ciputella chicken with rice and salad. The portions were large and tasty. The service was also good, the waiters kept filling the water all the time. The food was delicious. Reasonable prices

So I only just noticed this place as I walked past, but I was very pleased I did. It was a very cold morning, I was very hungry and also new to Chicago. Now I am put off by the experience a modern chain gives you - this is nothing like it: I enjoyed the lively busy atmosphere and the immediate welcome when I arrived. So I found a warm cubicle at the back of the Cafe. No up-sell, just a genuine intent to get you what you need. I had a "meat lovers combo" with hash browns toast and coffee. Even though this is not a sophisticated high brow menu selection, it was well prepared and effortlessly done to perfection. Good value at $9.99 for food and $3.29 for coffee. I will go again if I get chance ...

I had a Chicago style Dog on my bucket list of things to eat on my visit to Chicago. A few places offered this on the menu but the Pittsfield was the nearest one to my hotel and also, I believe, the cheapest of the ones I saw online. When I arrived they advised me it was on the lunch list and not the breakfast one. When I explained why I had come they provided one for me. It was delicious and came with enough chips (fries) for two people. Can't thank them enough.

A moderate and small place with not a lot of sheeting. The bathrooms were not sanitary but the food was still pretty good. If your hungry and are right by this place maybe hop on for a bite.

Popular downtown breakfast spot with fast and friendly service in a very casual atmosphere. Food was good, well seasoned and offered variety of choices.

This hidden gem is not far from Michigan Ave and Millennium Park. It's in the lobby of the Pittsfield Building; the building is undergoing renovations, but the cafe is tucked away in the center of the ground floor atrium. The food is plentiful, reasonably priced, served promptly and hot. We had breakfast here twice during our 4-day trip to Chicago.

Had a warm, quick and good breakfast. Right in the old hotel that our AirBnb was in. Wait staff was friendly and efficient. Food good. a bit too greasy - but good!

It was a good place for a speedy breakfast. Food is serviceable but not great. The building itself is beautiful. Service also friendly and efficient.

We enjoyed a midday meal here. I had a basic breakfast and it was excellent. My companion had a burger and said it was delicious too. The building the diner is in is beautiful. The service here was fast and courteous, and prices were reasonable. I recommend that you check it out!

When the Wildberry had a 1.5-2 hour wait, we turned around to find someplace we could actually eat BREAKFAST at. We passed Pittsfield Cafe and they had us seated and ordered within 20 minutes. The chef's Skillet was phenomenal. Layered with ham, bacon, sausage, and Swiss - then hash browns - and topped with three eggs. Very good! The only reason I did not give 5 stars is their drink menu didn't satisfy my wishes for a mocha/latte.

Stopped in for brunch on a Saturday morning. Pretty busy, even though it is a mess to find with construction. We opted for the bar to eat right away. Staff is really nice, efficient and on time. Menu is of good size for a ‘cafe’ with variables by request; I asked for a sunnyside egg to be scrambled on my croissant. No fresh juices; in bottles. Coffee is good though. Good stop, neat atrium area to sit in if it’s not too busy. Enjoy.

We came here on a Saturday at 8am and there was no wait. Our waitress was great. Coffee was good. The building is gorgeous. They need to get some more tenants in there. There's so much potential in that building. I enjoyed my sampler of French toast, scrambled eggs, turkey sausage patties and hash browns. Way more than I could eat! My husband loved his silver dollar pancakes. He says their bacon was the best he has ever tasted and that is saying a lot! Prices were reasonable, too. There is a restroom in the basement and you can get the key from the cashier if you eat at the restaurant

This place is inside the Pittsfield Building, and I'm glad I found it via Yelp! The house corned beef was to die for, and getting it in the hash skillet was a great choice. The portion was satiating and the service was lovely and friendly. Definitely recommended for a stop by before sightseeing at the park and around the lake.

We visited this restaurant for breakfast on our last morning in Chicago. We both ordered the 2•2•2 meal and our food was good, fairly inexpensive, and our server was nice. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in the area and would come back next time I am in Chicago.

The service was good except for the cashier who seemed to be having a bad day. The food wasn't very good though. My omelette was way over cooked to the point that the eggs were rubbery and brown (hot tip-turn the heat down and keep an eye on it). The coffee was stale and tasted bad, so overall it was an unsatisfying breakfast. I won't come back here.

I will just say apple pancakes that were like eating an apple soufflé. Amazing. I will add: Great service. Great location. Cool building.

Fun location. The Greek scramble with Gyro meat” and feta was excellent ~ mostly because the meat was lamb. SService was sService was

I discovered the Pittsfield Cafe while searching for a breakfast diner on a recent trip to Chicago. Rated highly by past customers, and intrigued by the fact that it was located in the historical Pittsfield building, we decided to give it a try. We were impressed with the architecture of the building and the menu offered a wide variety of choices. All four of us were satisfied with our meal. It was excellent! I would highly recommend the Pittsfield Cafe for breakfast.

We came with high expectations, given the rave reviews, and we weren't disappointed. The Reuben sandwich is one of the very best I've ever had. No fat on the meat. Just wonderful, as were the fries. The pickle was not so great and we skipped the coleslaw. I wish they hadn't used a super heated plate for serving as it made the rye bread a bit soggy, but this is a common failing of many restaurants. It was a fun place for lunch and worth seeking out as it's behind scaffolding, inside a mostly empty building.

Wonderful place for breakfast in the heart of Chicago Choices are endless and could please even a very picky eater. Very friendly service.

Had breakfast here one morning having read the reviews and seen it was close to our hotel. Wow. Service was fab, the breakfast was as excellent as the staff. Coffee just kept coming. Loved it. Thank you

The building that it’s in looks closed down. Don’t be fooled by the look of the outside. This place is a rare find. Delicious breakfast served by lovely friendly people. Will definitely be back

Indoor diner meets patio atmosphere. Wonderful staff and great service. If I lived here, this would be my place to go.

This is a must visit diner, we visited for breakfast and were not disappointed, great egg hash brown and toast, looks just like you would expect a real diner to, one of the many reasons we always eat in these locations and never in the big chains, good food, great service, good price, authentic!

We were in Chicago two days and ate breakfast here both days. They don’t over salt their food. It’s cooked fast and fresh. They have great service - truly kind & accommodating. My daughter has food allergies and they went out of the way to help us. The building is a beautiful example of Chicago architecture. Gorgeous Art Deco.

On a beautiful Sunday morning we set out early (7:30am) looking for a traditional Chicago breakfast. Weakling past the lines at the newer upscale venues we found ourselves drawn to the Pittsfield Cafe. The name alone intrigued us, the Art Deco building interior (currently under renovation) blew us away. There was good variety on the menu. Lots of hearty traditional American Diner breakfast fare. There were several variations of skillet breakfasts and I opted for the classics American skillet, eggs over easy atop shredded hash browns and corned beef hash with cheddar cheese and a side of rye toast (something I don’t see offered in Louisiana). My travel companion and Number 1 Brother-in-law had the French roach with eggs and bacon. Both were served up by friendly attentive waitress. Coffee was good and cups kept full. Overall it was quite was good, filling and slightly more food than either of us needed. We had to burn up some of those calories. So, we ended up walking down State street to the vendors market and then over to the river for an afternoon boat ride. Be sure to check out the Art Deco interior around the elevators when you are there. I loved the old style mailbox and just had to include a photo for you.😎

My family and I happened upon Pittsfield Cafe while shopping and strolling down in The Loop during the weekend before Christmas. After traveling up to Macy's and the crowd at the restaurant on the 7th floor and walking through more crowds at the Christkindlmarket, finding this gem was just what we needed. There was a small interior diner style restaurant but we chose to sit in the courtyard surrounded by offices and since it was on a weekend, it was quiet and respite. Kind of felt a little European in the middle of my favorite city in the world, Chicago. The food was great -- I recall there was a rueben and some breakfast on the table but can't remember what everyone had. Try the fries. Just a memorable lunch with the family in a comfortable environment. I'd definitely not only recommend but will go back.

As others have commentated, this is unique diner experience located inside an office building, that of itself is worthy to admire, if only for the ornate and heritage elevators. The diner itself is just like an all American diner, it does just that, provides hot decent, relatively simple food, at a reasonable price. Its not fine dining, but it doesn’t try to be anything other than what it is – a diner experience.

Classic location in the lobby - the atmosphere is very "classic downtown." Good selection on the menu. Our lunches were cooked perfectly and the ingredients were fresh - great place!

Classic diner in a great downtown location. Great service. Based in a nice building … look for the sign on the sidewalk else difficult to find

Great breakfast food in an amazing Art decco building. Incredible fixtures and details. Coffee get simple one. Dont get fancy. Food is clean and generous all kinds of eggs.

Recommended by a friend was a little tricky to find first time but good food, plenty of choice and a super friendly team says so much about a place. Located in an iconic building this really is worth visiting. Great old fashioned genuine American hospitality I remember of old. Thank you……I’ll be back.

We had breakfast here based upon our hotel staff recommendation. Breakfast for two, including a soda, came to $20. I had croissant with grilled onion, bacon, cheese and eggs...super yummy. Skip the easy to find tourist spots and stop here.

This was difficult to find, tucked inside a building, but it was a good find. I sat “outside”, which is inside and it was nice. Lots of regulars and locals. Great place for meetings. Good food at reasonable prices.

Delicious sampler breakfast in a beautiful historic building. Feels like a sidewalk cafe inside the Center atrium. Food was simple and good! Great alternative to hotels and fast food.

I don't believe I have ever seen a bigger breakfast menu. And everything is also good. Great home fries, any kind of egg dish, great skillets, pancakes of all kinds. Coffee is very good too. It is hard to imagine a better choice for breakfast.

We were a group of 4 for breakfast and were seated quickly at 8:15 am. Big menu. However, the food quality was just average. The potato pancakes are mini ones, which is really a surprise. Got skillet potato and egg dish (Greek style), but very little feta or tomato in it -- a lot of tough potatoes to try to cut through. The wait staff was nice, and the price was reasonable, but I would not go back as no one liked what they had.

In the inner courtyard of former office building, now being converted into apartments, you will find this old style coffee shop. Large menu with great selection for breakfast, lunch or snack. Wonderful spot indoors from the winter cold, or the summer heat, to enjoy an honest meal, reasonably priced in an unusual setting. Sure beats going to the many fast food chain shops all around the Loop. Give it a try for a spot you will remember.

We were directed to this restaurant upon our arrival to Chicago. We were impressed with the variety on the menu, The food we ordered was very good and arrived quickly. The wait staff was very competent and polite. We will return again on future visits to Chicago.

We were looking for a place to eat nothing fancy. Pittsfield fit the bill. It is tucked away in a building that is under construction. The inside is beautiful. Service was prompt and friendly. I had a croissant sandwich which was a bit greasy but okay. Hubby liked his fish sandwich.

Great place to have breakfast, the personal is really nice and the food was really good. We had the avocado toast which was really really good and the Santa Fe skillet , good too .

What could be better than a warm and welcoming cafe on a cold, rainy, blowy morning in Chicago. From our charming busboy to the cheery waitperson, we felt welcomed. The good was substantial and yummy. I would definitely go again!

You'll feel part of Jewelers' Row in the Pittsfield with its unique location inside the atrium of a classic building. You can gaze up at the Art Deco design as you go through the extensive menu. There's something for everyone--from picky kids to the vegan. I liked the spinach pie. The atmosphere is casual. You'll see business diners, urban senior matrons, and families. It's a good place for immediate seating and good service.

An old diner vibe but great food and some modern twists on dishes. My wife had a croissant breakfast sandwich. I had the pic 2 and added gravy. It was a lot of food and great service.

We had breakfast at Pittsfield 2 days in a row because it was reasonably priced, the food was good and the atmosphere was welcoming. I would highly recommend the chocolate waffles and the pancakes were also good. Will definitely stop by again next time I'm in Chicago

Well this is a hidden gem, on the ground floor of the Pittsfield Building which feels pretty empty. The art deco look is all around (the lifts / elevators are amazing) and, as with so many Chicago skyscrapers, the dimensions huge. The cafe is tucked away and we enjoyed simple brunch fare

This is a hidden gem in the diamond district/Loop. The building is large and ornate and some of the tables are in the lobby while others are inside with more of a cozy diner vibe. Either way is very pleasant. The food was delicious and freshly prepared from scratch. I couldn't believe the price for such a touristy area. Great value for a full sit down breakfast in the Loop.

Great breakfast at a good price. Nice people. Interesting place. The whole family enjoyed all the good food.

I ordered hash browns with bacon and eggs (sunny side up) and had a muffin. The hot sauce on the table went well with the hash brown. I also ordered an English breakfast tea, and because I'm fussy asked for normal milk (without cream), it felt like nothing was too much to ask and the service was extremely excellent. The whole meal cost me less than $16 (before tip) which is cheap for Chicago. Overall the food was simple but will cooked, although the bacon a little crispier than I like. For the price (in the loop in Chicago) this was a pretty decent feed.

Great diner experience which is how I love my breakfast. Really cool location, nice atmosphere and very good food. Looking forward to going back tomorrow.

The entrance to this cafe is very understated. The building is a magnificent old building that housed offices and what was probably a high end restaurant. The building itself is worth a visit. The staff were very pleasant and efficient. The food was served quickly and nicely prepared. Prices are moderate and it felt like a good value. Check it out.

ate in the lobby nice. Ambience was great sitting in the vaulted lobby. food was decent and the service was good. definitely not the usual lunch rat race.

Went with fellow colleagues and wanted a good breakfast. The staff was attentive, food was excellent and would highly recommend it if in downtown Chicago. it was very inexpensive.

The cafe was located 5 minutes from our hotel and was easy to get to, although the building was surrounded by scaffolding so it wasn’t easy to spot the entrance. We visited for breakfast and didn’t have to wait long for our orders to be taken and delivered. The food was decent, with good sized portions. All in all it was okay but we didn’t feel the need to eat there more than once.

Prices are reasonable. The staff is very very good. Lots of breakfast choices, well cooked. The Pittsfield building is worth seeing. It's pretty empty but is really nice with lots of cool architectural fixtures.

I don’t understand the good reviews on this place. The service was Ok, but the food was really, really bad. I ordered avocado toast, it came in a dry toast, without butter in it, a lot of dry arugula, a tiny bit of avocado and an egg on top. It was so dry and tasteless I couldn’t eat. And the worst part, my knife was completely dirty, it hasn’t been washed. The whole place gave me a really bad vibe.

We were staying at a nearby hotel over the weekend, and I was glad to have read in advance about the Pittsfield Café. Not sure we would have noticed it otherwise, as it is definitely off the beaten path inside an old (1927) building with a scaffold thing on the sidewalk in front. It's a bit dark and spooky going in, but we enjoyed the interesting setting, as well as the café itself. We went for breakfast. Service was good and fast, and it was very reasonably priced. There were a few other diners but no wait and no crowd. They have a large menu with some interesting dishes but also lots of basic, familiar stuff (good for kids). My son had pancakes and bacon, and I had a croissant with ham, egg, gouda, and onion jam. All was good, as was the coffee. I would highly recommend this place if you're in the area and want a good, low-stress breakfast (or lunch) in a local establishment.

Our breakfasts were fine but nothing special. It was very pleasant to sit in a wonderful old lobby. Service was good. Definitely not a chain, which is refreshing.

We stumbled upon this restaurant by mistake, and are glad we did. The food and service were great; we were seated within about 15 minutes (most restaraunts in the area have a 1-2 hour wait). Highly recommended.

After a splashing day at the Big Bean we looked for a lunch place nearby for our 3 young grandkids and us. For the Pittsfield on Trip Advisor and after some searching and walking we found the place inside the hotel. It was worth the walk. Allison, our attentive server took great care of us, which could be a challenge with 3 children under 7 years old. Plenty of food choices as we had Chicago style hot dogs, short stack pancakes, Ruben, Tuna wrap, Spaghetti and Pastrami on rye and all at 2 in the afternoon! Food was very good and the atmosphere unique and prices reasonable. Look for this place if you are at Millennium Park a few block away.

We were staying at the Staypineapple hotel close by and came here every morning for breakfast. Great variety on the menu and we went through all different choices every day and were never disappointed. Was always a blend of tourists and locals and all in all great value for money.

Huge selection of breakfast options served swiftly with a pleasant service. My kind of diner in a lovely building

The food was basic diner breakfast food. Service was quick. The location of the cafe was very strange. The other reviews that point out that the building is abandoned are true. Sort of depressing location, but the food was decent and the prices were great.

Good food in a historic building - we had French toast with eggs and bacon, very tasty. "Outdoor" cafe in an indoor setting. Service was fine, a little slow but we were there after breakfast rush and were in no hurry. Restaurant is located inside an old Chicago dame - The Pittsfield Building - which was magnificent in its day, but is a fading beauty these days. I really enjoyed viewing the architecture of the building while we had our meal. Would return again next time we're in town.

Hidden inside an interior courtyard you will feel transported to a European city. Food prices are reasonable and the service is friendly. The Chipotle Chicken Sandwich was delicious - a grilled chicken breast with cheese, tomatoes and Chipotle aioli. The crinkle cut fries were okay. My husband had the Steak Skillet with 3 eggs and hash browns and said it was very good. The location alone makes this a don't miss. Unexpected.

Right inside the beautiful old Pittsfield Building, this is a gem of a diner. Fast, friendly, attentive service. Classic breakfast offerings and solid cup of coffee. If you're near Millennium Park and need a quick, satisfying bite, this is your place.

Great breakfast, nice athmosphere. Great variaty in choice for breakfast. Service was friendly and helpful in narrowing down the choices for food. Also, good coffee, not unimportant :).

Really good breakfast foods, courteous wait staff, reasonably priced. Tables in foyer area spaced well for Covid concerns. Would definitely come again.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to have breakfast, we came upon Pittsfield Café, it was a very nice cozy place. We ate at the counter and they had good service, the breakfast menu was large to choose from. We enjoyed our tea & coffee, we left full and content...:-) I would recommend this to any of my family and friends back home in Virginia. We visited there a few months ago.

We had an omelette that was huge and French toast. The breakfast was delicious. The service was good. The prices were reasonable. The only downside was there was a fan not air conditioned.

Our first time dining here and it was an absolute delight. The food was beautifully presented and bursting with flavour, and the service was exceptional from start to finish. The staff were thoughtful, professional, and incredibly welcoming, taking the time to describe each dish with care. It made the whole experience feel personal and special. Every plate arrived looking stunning and tasted even better. Such a memorable lunch we left feeling genuinely impressed. Can’t wait to return for another wonderful meal!

Great little dinerish place with great food. French toast was awesome and my husband said the corned beef was excellent!

Excellent. Had an avocado / egg benedict sandwich with hash browns. Free coffee refill included, of course. Really a pleasure to stay here.

We found this cafe more by luck than design, but certainly glad we did. We had breakfast there for the 3 days we were in Chicago, as the food was great value, with a good choice available on the menu. As we were up early adjusting to the UK/US time difference, we were there for 7.00am opening & we were served quickly. The 2-2-2 breakfast special set us up nicely for a day of sightseeing. The cafe is tucked away in what appears to be a building undergoing some refurbishment/construction, but is easy to find in a grand hall just through the revolving doors. It’s also just a short walk to CloudGate/the Bean if that’s on your sightseeing list.

Had a nice lunch at the Pittsfield cafe. It sits in a beautiful old building. Has inside cafe sitting and a very cute indoor patio sitting. Was busy with locals grabbing lunch. The waitress all knew the locals by their first names. We had a chilly hotdog, was good and a chicken sandwich with avocados also good. Great prices. A lot of people were eating omelettes, tuna melts, soups. Beer and wine were also available. We enjoyed our lunch at the Pittsfield cafe.

Cute little classic diner in downtown. We stopped by for lunch on a rainy, cold Saturday, and it was the perfect place to warm up and fill up. Menu is simple and classic - sandwiches, soup, salads, etc. Nothing fancy, but good comfort food. Staff was super friendly and really made the meal.

For breakfast, I enjoy the small town diner style places. And these are hard to find in big cities. That’s why I liked this place so much. It is small and it is diner style. I had a nice size breakfast for a good price. Want a fancy froufrou breakfast, go someplace else. Want a breakfast like mom cooked, this is the place. The staff are friendly and willing to ensure your meal is exactly what you want. I had the bacon and eggs with a side of oatmeal. The eggs were perfectly cooked over-medium. Most places only make floppy bacon but I like mine extra crispy. Most places struggle but this place made my bacon crispy and perfect. My oatmeal was the perfect consistency, thick. Coffee cups were never empty and the food nice and hot. This place was busy, and still got us fed and out in 40 minutes. I will come back here every time I’m in Chicago.

The quintessential American breakfast joint! The setting is a historic Chicago building, the café offers a great, affordable menu. This became our group de facto breakfast place. Each morning we were greeted by the staff, who are both hospitable and efficient. We had breakfast here in three consecutive days. The menu is so varied, that you can have your typical eggs, omelets, pancakes, and French toast. You can go carnivorous with the bacon, sausage, or ham. Drip coffee always served hot, and free refills. This can become a great start for your day of sightseeing in Chicago, adjacent to Millennium Park and the Loop. Tried the 2-2-2, (2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 pancakes) and the French toast combo (2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 French toast). Others in our party enjoyed eggs Benedict, hash browns, and toast. Enough fuel for walking around town. Attentive, cordial, and jovial staff make you come back for comfort. Lunch and dinner also served, with traditional sandwiches and diner fare.

On a day where other restaurants had 2 1/2 hour waits, this place got us seated in 30 minutes. They were prompt, very friendly, and the food was great. Our server Allison was on top of her game with a smile on her face the whole time!

Our experience at Pittsfield Cafe was probably affected by the very superior breakfast we had the day before at Wildberry, but I think the pros and cons balanced out to an average experience. Pros- -The prices for downtown Chicago are very reasonable. -The amount of food that you get is also just right for the average appetite. -The food was pretty good. I had the croissant sandwich. The croissant was ok, but the sandwich filling was really tasty. My kids liked their pancakes, and my husband said his skillet was pretty good. -Our server was quick with coffee refills and very friendly. She was clearly very busy as well but mostly kept up. Cons- -It is warm on the inside. We sat close to the kitchen. -We waited a long time for the hostess to acknowledge us or be able to seat us. I wish another server could have helped her. She appeared to be the cashier for the bar customers and was kept busy with slow patrons for 15 minutes. -The bathroom situation is gross. We were given keys to the worst bathroom that I encountered on our trip (even worse than the gas stations). If we hadn't been planning to walk around the city, I would have skipped it. I know that the restaurant isn't responsible here, but I have to comment on my whole experience.

If you like a true American breakfast for a great price this is for sure a place to go. Breakfast is very tasty, service is nice, environment is really cool and service is prefect!

Excellent breakfast in a friendly atmosphere! I would for sure go back! I had an omelet and hash browns. Both cooked to perfection!

As another reviewer has said - a hidden gem. You have to know that you’ve got to wander inside the Pittsfield building. There’s no visibility from the street. And it closes at 5 so breakfast or lunch Good food, good service, good value. If you’re on a budget (we can’t go fine dining every day!) then this is a fabulous choice.

service is good the food comes out very quickly and it's yummy. The pancakes are so fluffy. The prices are very reasonable A must try.

I was the first customer of the day and had a basic breakfast of 2 eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns and OJ. The service was OK and the food was decent, although the hash browns were soggy.

Friendly service, yummy breakfast and a great cup of regularly topped-up coffee. The building is a conversation starter.

This small cafe/diner is inside the Pittsfield building, may be hard to find. They dont take reservations so there was limited seating, mainly because I visited around the holidays. The waiters and hostes were extremely kind and welcoming. The menu had good selections and was reasonably priced. The food was excellent and perfectly portioned so you wouldn’t overeat or undereat. The food was delivered quickly and our waiter was on top of everything. Overall a good experience and I would definitely go back.

This is a small busy cafe. But has extra seating in the atrium. Both my brother-in-law & I felt the pancakes were thin & spongy-tasting. The rest was an average tasting cafe breakfast.

Servings are generous and delicious. Their Eggs Benedict was spot on. Our waitress was busy but still attentive. If your looking for a decently priced and delicious breakfast this is the place!

Nice breakfast, good selection of dishes. It was a bit difficult to find but worth it. I would go again.

This place is tucked away inside the Pittsfield building, from the outside it looks like a derelict place but you see the café as soon as you walk through the main doors. It has a family feel and the owner (I think) was very accommodating of our small child. The food was quick and we both ordered breakfast which hit the spot.

Great little cafe. Came back twice. French toast is good and the omelettes delicious. Not forgetting the fluffy pancakes.

Ended up here as a second choice since the breakfast place we were originally going to had an excessively long wait. What a fun place! We sat in the lobby of the art deco building that the café is in. Waitstaff was very attentive and our breakfast was delicious. Hot coffee refilled without having to ask and our food was all piping hot. The corned beef hash and eggs were delicious and my husband enjoyed his French toast Combo platter as well.

Nice cheap diner that want that cheap. At 3.29 for a regular coffee, I could have went to Starbucks. I had the Greek skillet with gyro meat. It was ok, but lacked flavor, rather bland. Toast was soft, and seemed like it may have been toasted earlier. Overall I would return but I'd stick with plain breakfast items.

Hard place to find on a Sunday morning as it is in the Pittsfield Building. Luckily saw on the street a sign that said Pittsfield Cafe open. Small place inside but they also have tables outside in the lobby of the building. The server Boris was helpful and very pleasant. The prices for breakfast are reasonable. There is an Early Bird Special from 6 to 11am for $9.99. Beverages are extra. I did want a milkshake but they said there machine is not working. Also be aware of the surprise fee they will charge on your bill if you pay by credit card which is called Non-Cash Adjust.

Good service, very fast. Good coffee and the Sampler was good. Maybe the sauces choice was limited. Eggs were ok. Overall good for a quick hearty breakfast I would go back.

We recently went here for a late morning meal. It was our first time here and found the place to be nice and cozy since it was tucked away and off the street. We all enjoyed our food selections. About the only downfall was the oatmeal that wasn’t hot.

The Pittsfield Cafe is a little hidden. Getting to it is part of the adventure! I was staying in a nearby hotel, which listed several nearby places for breakfast or lunch, so I had the address. It's a very charming and cozy place, with 1920s tile on the floors. Staff is friendly and welcoming. The menu is about a dozen pages long; they serve breakfast all day, I think. Almost everything you order is a complete meal, with bread, either soup or salad, and a vegetable. Luckily, I ordered the very best thing on the menu: a simple grilled chicken sandwich, but it had caramelized onion jam on it. One of the best flavors I've ever tasted anywhere! I begged the manager to let me buy a couple of jars of it, but he explained that that wasn't possible. They make it fresh every day. He went out of his way to check the kitchen in the basement(?) to see if there was "enough" of the delicious condiment for the remainder of the day. There was, so he brought me a styrofoam soup container full of the jam. How accommodating is that?!? The soup I had was also very flavorful, and of course homemade. Prices were very reasonable. I will happily go back to the Pittsfield any time I'm in Chicago, and have been recommending it to anyone and everyone I know.

Want to experience a modest,all-American diner in a grand old heritage building? Look no further. This restaurant is situated just off the rather dimly lit, echoey inner courtyard of a beautiful old early C20 building, with some tables spilling off into the courtyard itself. Quite a beautiful and relaxed setting for breakfast: our classic French Toast with eggs and bacon/sausages were just what we wanted, and cappuccino and hot chocolate great too. When you often dine cheap, as we often do, you sometimes miss out. Not here: wonderful experience.

I ate here twice on a recent visit. I had a Greek salad for lunch. The salad was large and had several anchovies on top that I removed. It was a tasty choice. Breakfast was even better. Some of the best scrambled eggs I’ve had. It was very busy but service was still good.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why anyone would say this was an excellent or even very good diner. I stopped in for breakfast on a Tuesday morning and the restaurant was mostly empty. I was greeted by a bus person who brought me water and coffee. He was terrific. Unfortunately, everything started to go downhill from there. My server was disinterested and seldom around to refill my coffee. Before I realized her lack of interest, I had asked her for some recommendations and she suggested that I get their house made corned beef hash. I followed her advice, which was my first mistake. Calling it corned beef hash is a misnomer. The hash consisted primarily of hashbrowns mixed with green pepper and some thinly sliced corned beef that had been chopped up. One had to search to find any corned beef, and it tasted like hashbrowns with green peppers. The best thing about the meal was the rye toast. The meal ended on even lower note, when I went up to the cashier to pay. She was talking on a personal phone call, did not put the phone down, took my money and essentially ignored me. I will not be back.

In an expensive and somewhat barren breakfast area this place is straightforward and pretty good for breakfast. Worth a try and good pancakes.

Nice little cafe inside a historic building. Good prices and friendly staff. We shared a Mediterranean omelette which was very tasty. Coffee was also good.

We had lunch here, after visiting Millennium Park. We walked. It’s located in a beautiful 1920s former office building. We were seated near a fan by the waitress, as I had asked for a cool place & she obliged. Hubby & I ordered deli sandwiches…he had corned beef & Swiss on rye bread and I had turkey & Swiss on rye. The sandwiches both had a lot of meat! The toasted bread was absolutely delicious. Our sandwiches came with a huge helping of forgettable French fries and a condiment cup of coleslaw. The fries weren’t seasoned with salt, and just weren’t very good. The waitress was very attentive, and we didn’t have to wait too long. Another employee kept busy refilling water glasses & quickly bussing tables when customers finished. Overall, we both thought the sandwiches and the service were very good…but would love to see better fries!

We had a couple of great breakfasts here. It’s hidden away in a courtyard of what looks like an abandoned building but worth finding it. Both times we went it was really busy and clearly has a good, well-deserved reputation. Sat outside once then inside, right next to the kitchen where we could see how hard everyone was working. Had strong Americanos then different meals: corned beef skillet, avocado benedict, yogurt with fruit, waffles and bacon. Food was tasty and hot each time. Really wish we’d found this place on our first morning. We could have eaten here every day and not got bored with the menu. Fantastic service from Angela both days.

Someone suggested the Pittsfield Cafe, so we decided to give it a try. We were greeted by the nicest gentleman and seated outside in the atrium area. It was a very pleasant atmosphere but the round table was extremely small. Fortunately, the table next to us was empty so we pushed them together. Our server was very nice and you could tell that she really wanted to make sure we enjoyed our meal. I was a little disappointed that they did not offer fresh homemade pastries. Our mimosas were delicious and the meal was quite good.

The Pittsfield Cafe (located in the mostly defunct historic Pittsfield building in the jewelry district on Wabash) is a classic Chicago cage for 40+ years. It’s got a vibe & ambiance of it’s own. We enjoyed a hearty breakfast of: house coffee, OJ (not fresh squeezed), French toast (adequate), & (my fave) the blueberry pancakes (yum!!). Why go someplace that you could find in any city when you can go to a one-of-a-kind in Chicago?

Not on the street, you have to in the building to find it. Once you're there, you find a dandy dinner with good food and fair prices. My Greek Skillet was excellent with 3 eggs.

Great quick and affordable bite to eat for breakfast!!! Would absolutely go back again. We didn’t have to wait for a seat and the food was brought out quickly with great service!

I found the cafe on Google maps and glad I did. This cafe is located in the first floor of a historical building and it was neat that the seating was able to spill out of the cafe and into the open space of the lobby of the building. My eggs were not overdone and the coffee delicious.

We noticed this place as we were walking past looking for restaurant for breakfast. It's a family Diner inside the old Pittsfield Building. We had breakfast here, it was tasty, the menu selection is diverse, something for everyone. The service was very good, fast and friendly. Good value for good food.

This place was inside of a historic building. My niece discovered it, and it did not disappoint. It had a bit of a wait, but worth it! She had a Santa Fe Burrito with steak that was excellent, and I had an original eggs Benedict. Also excellent, and so were the hash browns. A mimosa and fresh squeezed OJ was a treat. Our server, Marcela was great too.

The pittsfield building almost looks abandoned, but you go through the revolving door, across an empty lobby and then there’s the cafe. Excellent banana pancakes and omelette were had by us. Staff very attentive. There’s a big chandelier near the dining area that’s something to see. Prices were better than at similar places on Michigan ave. Would gladly eat here again.

The location is in the atrium of the Pittsfield building- cool old art deco building. The service was very, very good and the restaurant is very comfortable. Two of us ordered the house-cured corn beef skillet. There was hardly any corned beef in the skillet. It was OK. I would go back again if in neighborhood.

Came in for a quick meal before catching the train back home. Wandered all over to find the perfect breakfast place. After long wait times, we decided to check out Pittsfield. Waited about 5 min for a table and we were NOT disappointed. The food was quick the waitress was awesome and the orange juice was to die for.

Great combination of historical setting and good food. The avocado Benedict was very good. If the hash browns had not been just a bit chewy this would have been a 5 dot. The rest of the menu and the lunch specials looked good. Counter, booths, tables or atrium seating. I have two more days in town and may be back even with so many other places to try. Definitely a keeper.

We ate breakfast here three times during our Chicago vacation. Good “diner” food at good prices. A large menu; many combinations. Only criticism of food is that the omelettes had too many green peppers. Blueberry pancakes were very good. Overall, the best breakfasts we had in Chicago. Servers could be friendlier and more attentive. Can be a little hard to find because it is located in the Pittsfield Building (no street frontage), enter the building lobby.

Lovely cafe serving a huge amount of options for breakfast and lunch. We stayed at a hotel along the road and ate here 3 out of 4 breakfasts. Portions are big, and a great choice. Staff was very friendly making sure coffee and water was refilled. Would recommend

The cafe is hidden away somewhat as the building in which it is located has scaffolding at the front and it appears to be unoccupied. Don't be put off however as the cafe is located in the foyer where you can sit or in the interior. We had several breakfasts there and they were excellent. The blueberry pancakes were as good as any that I've had in the USA. Edith and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. Highly recommended.

Handy spot for breakfast in the Loop (close to L and bus and just around the corner from the park and bean) if you don't want a Starbucks or modern cafe. If anything a little quiet as one of the few businesses that appear to be left in the building but a wonderfully atmospheric setting. Huge choice for breakfast and food was good with quick service.

I was by myself and ate at the bar. The bartender and the host were great and I had great service. I had the chicken pot pie - it was good, but nothing I would consider out of the ballpark. I forget that a lot of midwestern food has little to no seasoning, so while it was good, it could have used some more flavor. Expensive for what it was.

I found this delightful restaurant on a cold morning in December. The wait staff is excellent and fast. The food was great especially the pancakes and sausage. It's a throw back to the 1950's (maybe earlier) with a vast array of menu selections. The eggs and bacon, bagels and cream cheese are also very good. I went to the restaurant three times in three days for breakfast. The prices are also most reasonable.

Small spot for our lunch visit. Had the Salmon Burger with fries. Really delicious and well cooked. I will definitely recommend this place for lunch. Prices are decent too. Food was served quickly.

This cafe was just half a block from our hotel.Found it by accident as building was surrounded in scaffolding. But what a find food, staff and interior design perfect and very nice coffee.

My wife and I like to eat breakfast here when in Chicago. The selection is great and the service is good. I like their 2+2+2 and their omelets. Sitting in the atrium lobby brings back the way things might have been years ago.

Fabulous place for breakfast/lunch. My wife and I both had omelettes with hash browns. Very nice. Staff very good and attentive. Scaffolding outside hides the entrance a bit but we’ll worth a visit.

Pretty good diner food with amazing ambiance and kind staff. While there are many gorgeous Chicago buildings that were built to showcase wealth of the companies who owned them, there aren’t many that a tourist can visit the interior of. Just to see the ceilings, walls and lighting, etc. is amazing, but to be able to eat there is another level. Food is served inside diner and in the inner plaza-like area; ask to eat there. We sat by locals meeting up for breakfast on a Saturday morning and enjoyed our delicious “comfort food” breakfast.

Great small traditional cafe. Open early for breakfast. COVID-19 compliant staff. Good food, comprehensive menu, friendly people. Clean new decor.
Near the Palmer House Hilton
Concierge recommended this restaurant for breakfast. 2 1/2 blocks from Hotel. Has the feel of Chicago. Great Service! Their should be better choices near my hotel.. I had the veggie omelette with avocado addition. It was over cooked & had a dry taste. It desperately needed cheese. Bacon was luke warm & must have been sitting in the kitchen for awhile. Fresh fruit with average coffee.
