Wonderfully Chicago!

By Jeni W |

This is a fantastic restaurant! The pizza was the best I’ve ever had, with an absolutely delicious crust. My parents had the beef sandwiches, which they said was better than the famous place you can get them from. Most of all, the service was fast and the server was so friendly. Walking distance from the Museum of Illusions.

The Best Pizza Anywhere!

By Susan N |

I have lived in Chicago my entire life, and I call myself a pizza snob. Hands down, Chicago has the best pizza in the world. My very favorite pizza is at Pizano’s, and my favorite Pizano’s in on State Street. I belong to a synagogue around the corner from State Street Pizano’s, and my friends and I go there often after Friday night services. Aside from having the best pizza in Chicago, their other food is great, and their staff is amazing. The managers are always wonderful and attentive, and the wait staff is fantastic. A few weeks ago, my friends and I went to Pizano’s after services. I told our server, Marco, that my friend was celebrating his 90th birthday and asked if they could bring him a surprise dessert. The dessert they brought was my favorite, a warm chocolate chip cookie crust, with vanilla ice cream, hot chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. It is truly amazing. I would have gladly paid for it, but the management not only comped the dessert, they comped the entire check! Granted, my friends eat there quite often, but this was way above and beyond superior customer relations. To sum it up, Pizano’s has by far the best pizza, and State Street has the best staff in the City of Chicago and beyond. There is no reason to go anywhere else for pizza, and I don’t!

Deep Dish pizza!

By Tatiana B |

I really liked the pizza, i never been in chicago before and i think u can get a great deal for this food, the price, the service. I didn´t like my table but the place is nice

A decent place to eat

By al3atross |

I had a solo day trip to Chicago. I noticed this place while I was walking by. The weather was beautiful so I couldn’t find a table outside. So, I sat at the bar and ordered a cheeseburger. I didn’t know that Chicago was famous for its deep dish pizza. I was told about this by the barmaid only after I ordered my cheeseburger. My meal was okay. This might be one of the places where you can have a quick lunch in Chicago.

Pizano’s Pizza

By MrsSkee |

We visited Pizano’s Pizza in the South Loop, Chicago. Their food was delicious, and their service was fantastic! On two separate visits we had toasted raviolis...yum, pizza...delicious, and Italian beefs, Chicago style...amazing! If you are ever in the area, this is a must visit.

Friendly Italian

By Joske |

Nice Italian restaurant with Friendly staff. Had diner and enjoyed some good food accompanied with a beer. Bartender knows his stuff preparing also a lot of cocktails.

Super

By Kuvasz1988 |

The crust is amazing. It is not doughy or wet. Cooked perfect with a little crispness. The sauce has a little zest to it! Be prepared as the pizza will take 35 minutes to cook. Well worth it!

Pizzeria with good atmosphere and attentive service

By Adam |

A tasty and casual pizzeria. The pizzas do take some time to cook, so ordering an appetizer while you wait is a great idea. I ordered some fries while my thin-crust cheese pizza was made. The service was very attentive, I always had a refill on my coke just as I needed it and the fries came quickly. The fries were cooked darker, making them crispy on the outside and warm and fluffy on the inside. The pizza was also quite good. A fair bit of cheese, well cooked and sliced into small squares. The portions are large, I only got halfway through the medium pizza. Atmosphere was very casual, going on a Friday night, there was a considerable crowd at the bar, but definitely a family-friendly place too.

No nonsense good pizza

By accbiker |

It is a great place for either deep dish or thin(ish) crust pizza. Service was super friendly. It does take a bit for them to make, bake, and get it to your table. But it is worth the wait. Grab a salad for the table to enjoy while you wait.

I am now a regular. LOVE this place

By Sailingbill63 |

It is like stepping back in time. This is the original Pizano's. We always sit at the bar and Daniel at the bar is great. Recommendation: Mark's pizza and Chopped salad and a beer!

Vastly overrated

By GranZorro |

Sticky pasta, humdrum salads, average pizza, poor wine. This sums up our experience at this place, which we went to after a long sightseeing day just because it was near our hotel. Next time I prefer to go to bed hungry.

Awful pizza!

By Hugh A |

We had read about this place, which was supposed to do great pizzas. Ours was far from great - the base was like toast, crunchy and unpleasant, like no other pizza we've had. The topping was just average, if that. A side dish of chips (French fries in American English) was limp , overcooked and going cold. There were plenty of patrons, so maybe others had better meals.

Time for our monthly pizza/chicken parmesan fix

By Taylor B |

I finally got around to sampling a deep dish pizza and I must admit, despite my initial misgivings, I was impressed. But not to the point where I would substitute deep dish pizza for my longtime favorite, thin crust cheese and sausage pizza--with extra sausage. Like most pizza lovers -- and are there any other kind? -- we have sampled pizza at several locations over the years, even in Louisiana and Florida and Arizona. Nothing compares to Chicago, in our view. And nothing compares to our latest go-to destination, Pizano's Pizza & Pasta at 864 North State Street. Naturally, my wife and I included Pizano's in our Memorial Day Bash -- four days of pizza, chicken parmesan, burgers, Chicago-style hot dogs, BBQ ribs, shrimp, meatballs, deviled eggs, mini-sandwiches, beef chop suey, chicken fried rice, chicken egg rolls. No home cooking. Delivery and pickup. We've observed and tasted the evolution of pizza since the late 1940s, when we were aware of only one pizza parlor in the area. Now they are only every block. But no two are the same. Pizano's thin crust cheese and sausage has its own identity. Soft but chewy crust, not too much cheese, not too much tomato sauce, plentiful and tasty and zesty Italian sausage. Blind-folded, I think I could distinguish Pizano's pizza from others. It has a distinctive taste and texture. And it isn't too filling. I still have enough room left for some of my wife's chicken parmesan and mostaccioli.

Good

By TLSeymour |

My colleague had previously been to a nearby competitors for deep dish pizza and was looking forward to deep dish pizza this visit. Pizano's was closer to us and suggested by the hotel we stayed at. Pizano's deep dish pizza was very good, we both ordered the butter crust which unknown to us gave it a completely different type of crust, crispier, than what my colleague was looking for. So pizza was absolutely good, just different in terms of a crust. The reason for four stars is that both bar service while waiting for a table and also service after we were seated, was definitely on the slower side. Tables and chairs are snug backed up to each other.

Close to the BEAN

By rofo7104 |

The food and atmosphere are a 4. The server was a bit too friendly and the A/C was not working. We had a couple of beers and small pizza for over $40.

Pretty bland, but my wife (and brother in law) like it.

By Foodaholic Jackson |

This place came highly recommended by my brother in law, so I figured we'd give it a try. On this trip, we already tried Pequods and Vito & Nick's, and I can honestly say this pizza is PALE in comparison. Bland crust, bland sauce, although I do like the cheese ratio, and the toppings were really good, I just wanted as impressed as other people are with this place. Also, this place seemed to be in desperate need of servers, cuz our poor waitress was working her rear off, working WAY too many tables for her abilities. For me...meh...pass. I would rather go to a better pizza place.

Very Impressive

By Casey H |

Great experience! Very friendly staff and great food. Everyone in Chicago has a great deep dish these days but a true talent is pairing the deep dish with a great thin crust. Pizanos has just that! Had a thin sausage and pepperoni and it was phenomenal. They have a pretty impressive menu, lots to choose from. My daughter enjoyed her fettuccine Alfredo as well. Will definitely comeback!

The thin pizza is truly fantastic, the place has a real Chicagoan vibe

By Rodrigo V |

This location truly exuded a real Chicago vibe, I ordered some takeout and had a couple of drinks while waiting for the food, the atmosphere was amazing with tons of locals and tourists alike. The staff at the front of the restaurant and at the bar was super friendly and the food was fabulous (specially the thin pizza), I also enjoyed some pasta, beef sandwiches and some hot wings that could've been hotter (I ordered the hottest but they were pretty mild). Overall the place is fantastic to go with family, a date or catch a game in the bar while enjoying the best alternative to the "commercial" pizza parlors in Chicago that taste the same.

Best pizza I have ever tried

By Francisca D |

The food is amazing. It is so delicious and big portions. We ordered one pizza (pie style) and for me it was the best pizza I have ever tried. Also, the salads are big and so tasty! I will definitely come back the next time. Better place to load carbs before marathon

We wanted Chicago style!!

By Daves reviews |

My first time to Chicago so I wanted to try a Chicago style pizza so my wife and I tried this place out since we was walking in the area. When we entered we was greeted and promptly seated by the window which we absolutely liked. It was around 2:30 so we was in between lunch and supper crowds. Our waiter was nice friendly and helpful. We got a side salad which was large and fresh. For pizza we got the Chicago style 1/2 all meat and 1/2 ham and pineapple. The pizza was delivered. The restaurant/bar felt very (what we would think) local Chicago feel. We enjoyed our experience and would recommend. Friendly and good service.

Great pizza in Chicago.

By Tastyfun |

Great staff. Vicente is the best bartender. Always welcoming. The pizza is the best in Chicago. The crust is so good. I get the peperoni. The pasta is also good.

Best carb free pizza!!

By Luv2Travel |

The atmosphere & service here was top notch. We had the carb free pizza, this is a sausage crust pizza. It was so so so good! They are small, cut into four, but I found that 2 pieces were very filling. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very nice and gave us a few suggestions on a few bars we could check out that night.

Great deep dish pizza - worth the wait!

By EugeC |

PIzano's on N. State Street features "Mark's deep dish special pizza" which proved much more savory and tasty than the deep dish pizzas from the larger pizza shop chains! Pizano's deep dish pizza does take around 20 minutes to prepare (even when the restaurant is almost empty after lunch), but is worth the wait. The tortellini soup proved good but a tad on the salty side.

Chicago pizza that was great!

By Michael P |

We went here based on a reco and it was a good one. We ordered the deep dish (of course). They “warn” you it takes 30-40 minutes so you’re. It surprised. Nice that they tell you in addition to it saying that on the menu. Sit back and relax reflecting on the day or scheming about tomorrow. Three of us shared a medium and had leftovers. They think ahead and ask if you want plasticware as well in the to go box. Very smart as I would not have thought of that and we were staying at a near by hotel, so having the, knife and fork helped. Get “local” feel...perhaps it’s not local, but we don’t have these in Cincinnati, so it felt like we were experiencing something new and a bit different.

Great Pizza at different location

By MichaelKohn1 |

I had such a great experience at the Pizano's on State, I decided I had to try the location on Monroe since I was staying in the Loop. Same great pizza and service. Washed it down with a couple of good beers. Big screen televisions with lots of college football to watch. Ate the bar since I was by myself. Great time.

Birthday Bash, Part III

By Taylor B |

As luck would have it, my wife and I discovered a new favorite pizza parlor just in time for our week-long Birthday Bash to celebrate my wife's 82nd year. Our first favorite pizza destination moved out of our delivery area. Our second favorite pizza parlor went out of business. Enter Pizano's Pizza & Pasta, a popular local chain founded, owned and operated by Rudy Malnati of the famous Lou Malnati's Pizza empire. Located at 864 North State Street, Pizano's offers everything we desire in Italian comfort food with fast and efficient delivery included. Our Birthday Bash order? A large thin crust cheese and sausage pizza with extra sausage and a chicken parmigiana dinner with meat sauce and mostaccioli. Interestingly, Pizano's pizza is different from others we have tasted...a thicker but very chewy crust, not too much cheese, not too much tomato sauce, plenty of tangy Italian sausage. This is our second dining experience with Pizano's and my wife can't get over how good the chicken parmigiana dinner is. And how much there is of it. Too much for her to finish. Which is OK with me. I always save a portion for a late-night snack. With reheated or even cold pizza, of course. That's how I became acquainted with pizza, when I was about 10 years old. I would munch on cold, leftover pizza the night after one of my parents' parties. Pizano's reminds me of those good ole days.

Best pizza I’ve ever had!

By msdkad |

Best pizza. Best pasta. Best blueberry martini. Seriously. I have a new obsession! If you are trying to decide which Chicago pizza place to visit, this is it!

Great place for deep crust pizza

By shella A |

We had a reservation for 5:30 pm but got there a little early and were seated promptly. Our server was really sweet, pizza was out in exactly half an hour and was amazing. Highly recommend this place!

I was not impressed.. Giovanni deserves a 5/5!!

By Pickygirl46952 |

So first of all the General Manager Giovanni was amazing and warm and welcoming upon entering this establishment. Kelsi was our server and I had to ask her what her name was and that is your first hint of how much she was interested in serving us. She did not offer us any "specials" or "top-sellers" or "recommendations" at all. This was a compete turn-off. On to the food.. 1. cheesy garlic bread= pretty good 2. Tito's Passion Fruit Martini= delicious!! 3. Italian Beef= terribly bland 4. Pizza was a half Mark's and half Rudy's and we enjoyed the Mark's the best... but definitely not the best pizza I have had.

Front Desk Person Lucy

By Yusuf N |

Always great pizza here, however the service from Lucy who answered the phone and took my order was atrocious. Ordered a large pepperoni and sausage thin crust, got to restaurant gave Lucy my name and she said I only ordered a pepperoni. I told her I ordered pepperoni and sausage and she said I only got pepperoni. I paid for the pizza and she went to the back to get it. Threw it in the counter and didn’t offer any napkins, pepper or cheese. Yes I could have asked for it, but the look of disgust on her face just completely put me off. I called back to speak to mange and was told that they start a 5pm. So sad a worker like her gives a good restaurant a bad name.

Nice local vibe, uneven quality of food

By feverman01 |

We were staying in the vicinity so tried this place 3 times over the course of a week. Pros: pretty good deep dish pizza, and pasta dishes, reasonably priced drinks, excellent martinis, attentive service, nice ‘buzz’ without being so noisy one had to shout Cons: thin crust pizza ( pepperoni) possibly the most bland and tasteless I have ever had the misfortune to try. Pepperoni was almost nonexistent and entire pizza was flavorless.

Generation Gap

By Texmarc |

On a car trip with my son, got into Chicago and looked for someplace for him to get a Chicago deep dish pizza. We were staying in China Town and Pizano's was very close, just a few blocks away at 2106 Indiana Ave., across from Wintrust Arena. We were seated promptly, and ordered drinks. He ordered a Pepperoni Pizza and I ordered soup and a salad. Everything was good, although the soup could have been a bit hotter, He really enjoyed his pizza. So much he picked up one the following night when I wanted Chinese (which he wouldn't eat). Bottom line, he gave it a 2nd go... I ate Chinese.

delicious

By c0nnie2013 |

variety of menu items and the pizza is fabulous. multiple locations throughout chicago. some locations even have a side restaurant with seating if you just want to buy a slice. very friendly staff and great service. we come here every time we are in chicago.

Watery pizza

By BearDown51 |

I heard good news about this location so we tried it. White wine was expensive for a pour at $12 glass The deep dish came out hot but was the pizza was quite watery. Also had a thin crust sausage n green pepper. Peppers tasted like they were frozen and asked for brown the cheese which they say is well done. Well the crust was like a brick. Not worth the money we spent Lou malnati's is better

My favorite pizza

By Traveling Rambler |

Best pizza in town. Sausage pizza is my favorite. The crust is so buttery. I can’t get enough of this place. My favorite pizza on the planet

Eureka! Our new favorite pizza parlor

By Taylor B |

In a matter of full disclosure, our favorite pizza parlor used to be Bella Luna Cafe at Dearborn and Superior in Chicago. But they lost their lease and closed last month. So my wife and I began a search for our next favorite pizza parlor. We found it. Pizano's Pizza & Pasta, founded in 1991 by Rudy Malnati Jr. of the Malnati restaurant empire, whose father opened the iconic Pizzeria Uno in 1943 and created "The Original Deep Dish Pizza," is everything we could have hoped for. Located at 864 North State Street--ironically, a block from Bella Luna--Pizano's specializes in deep dish and thin crust pizza and other Italian standards. Plus, the delivery service is first-rate. Our first experience was of five-star variety. We ordered a large thin crust cheese and sausage pizza with extra sausage and a chicken parmigiana dinner with mostaccioli and meat sauce. It was at our door within 45 minutes, as hot as if it had just come out of the oven. The celebrity Oprah Winfrey has said that Pizano's thin crust pizza is the best she has ever tasted and it was rated among the top 10 in a USA Today survey. I won't argue. The pizza crust was soft and chewy, the amount of tomato sauce and cheese wasn't overwhelming and there was an abundance of Italian sausage. As good as I have ever tasted. My wife also was delighted with her very large portion of chicken parmigiana, mostaccioli and French bread. Already looking forward to our next visit to Pizano's.

Deep dish pizza was amazing!

By Mario C |

Deep dish pizza: tomato and garlic was delicious. The crust was unique so def a must try. I had the small size and it was more than enough. Bartender was great and super friendly.

Disappointment and expensive

By Jmd |

We tried the spaghetti and meatballs , garlic bread, cheesy garlic bread and the Italian beef sandwich. The food was okay, the portions were a good size and the ambiance was very cozy. The good: The garlic bread was excellent and so was the Italian beef sandwich. The portions were a good value. The bad: The pasta lacked flavor- very oily The drink order tasted funny- first too much gas, the. Too much sugar / never fixed correctly still charged. My sons dinner order was missing toppings we ordered- never received the correct toppings We were up charged for sauce - Rosa sauce- we didn’t receive We were charged $4 for a small dipping bowl of sauce for the garlic bread. Our server was nonexistent the entire visit - we had to request other servers to assist us. We spent over $100 on a dinner that I will not recommend to anyone.

First introduction to Chicago deep dish

By Heather H |

Part of my introduction to Chicago had to include deep dish. First stop Pizano’s and it didn’t disappoint! Great service, great food and I’m a fan!!

Good pizza and great staff with Uncle Chach!

By Norwood1507 |

First time trying chicago pizza so had to get the recommended deep dish chicago style with their homemade sausage. Pizza was good and glad we tried it. The thick crust is a personal preference but I enjoyed it. The staff was great and Uncle Chach made the place a memorable one!

Tasty pizza with a very cool atmosphere!

By Gee |

Waitress was very pleasant, we ordered two pizzas they were tasty but HUGEEE! Whilst in Chicago you must try a Chicago style pizza. Will go back if I’m ever on business there again!

Wow!

By 265az82 |

We stopped here for dinner because it was close to our hotel. We were greeted by our server who was very accommodating, personable and had a great sense of humor, which was refreshing. For our appetizer, we ordered the raviolis. They were lightly fried and delicious. I sampled the local beer, which was delicious and refreshing. I only wish I could remember the name! For our main courses, I ordered "Robert's Favorite" and my wife ordered the Penne Vodka. Both were amazing! But...Beware...You'd better have a big appetite! The portions are huge! My wife and I would have been just fine ordering one pasta dish to share. I only wish they would have explained that first. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is awesome; decked out in Chicago sports memorabilia. We'll have to try Pizano's again, but we'll split a dish next time.

A warm welcome and great pizza

By Diane N |

We were looking for a Chicago style pizza for our first meal in the city and found a great one here. The welcome was warm and service was great. Good selection of beers too. Glad we ate early because it got busy very quickly. Nice atmosphere

OK Pizza. Probably better than your hotel restaurant....

By Timruns |

Cozy little restaurant. I ate at the bar. It got busy and service was OK. Ordered a solo sized deep dish pizza. Felt like it could have stayed in the oven a bit longer ..

Awesome Deep Dish Pizza

By dgbenge |

Have never had so much cheese on a deep dish pizza. Medium (6 pieces) fed two adults and I took the other two back to the hotel for an early breakfast the next morning. Cooked perfectly. (30-40 min prep time) Waiter (12/21/21 @ 5:30) was unbelievably friendly. I asked for a Diet Coke to go and when he saw us leaving, he realized he forgot it, only to find me on the street to deliver it. Outstanding.

Real Chicago Pizza

By Ivan M |

From the family that brings you Lou Malnatis, Pizanos is full of history and the pizza is incomparable, which means it has a unique feel and flavor. You cant come to Chicago and not eat Chicago style Pizza but if you want a GREAT thin crust, Pizanos is the place.

Perfect taste beer and pizza

By Alejandro V |

Great Match Beer 5 Rabbits and Pizza Very delicious bread or pasta you can enjoy the porción slices with good different kind of beers , the place is comfortable to spend a great time with family or friends to share the meals I really recommend it , !!!

You better come hungry!

By Jeanne F |

The food was really good and the portions were huge - we could have served a family of 4 on my dish alone.

Chicago layover

By Julie O |

We had a long layover in Chicago and decided to explore. We wanted to try Chicago's famed pizza. Pizano's did not disappoint!! Lovely day for lunch an outdoor lunch. From the homemade Italuan dressing on the salad to the fresh ingredients on the Mark's special pizza, you can taste thg he Love. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Definitely worth the wait-- about 30 mins for thg he pizza but you can tell it is made to order, just for you! Cheers!

Reasonable, but the pizza was not as good as others in the area

By wuhhoo |

We had good service, but I can see the Chicago deep dish pizza was not as good as other locations. The crust lacked the flavor of other places I have tried. I was a little disappointed. We also ordered garlic bread and that was just okay as well. While the pricing isn't bad, I'd skip this for another place.

What kind of pizza do you prefer?

By Taylor B |

When I was planning our annual Christmas/New Year/Holiday bash, I included two days of pizza in our two-week celebration. We used to have a favorite pizza location until both of them went out of business. So when I was seeking to find another favorite in our Near North Side/Gold Coast/Lincoln Park neighborhood, I came up with more than one. The first thing you learn about pizza is there are no two alike. I prefer thin crust cheese and sausage pizza. But they come in different versions. One of the best, in my opinion, is Pizano's Pizza & Pasta at 864 North State Street in Chicago. I order the thin crust pizza with cheese and sausage--and extra sausage. My wife opts for the chicken parmigiana dinner with meat sauce and a side of mostaccioli. The pizza crust is crunchy with not too much cheese and just enough sausage. Interestingly, the pizza is cut in small squares, three bites to a piece. I've never experienced another pizza cut that way. Truth be told, I don't feel bloated when I'm finished and I don't leave anything to be eaten cold or reheated tomorrow. Can anybody explain why that happens? Home delivery is first-rate, too. Pizza is made to be eaten at home, in front of a TV set while watching a good movie or live sporting event. And Pizano's makes the occasion even better.

Exceptional

By MJ |

We visited this restaurant tonight as my husband was keen to sample deep pan pizza before we left the US tomorrow. What a treat! The food is outstanding. His pizza was amazing and he needed to take some back to our hotel and we couldn’t finish it. The soup and Caesar salad was delicious. The service from Marco was wonderful. In our 3 week stay in the US he was our favourite waiter and we’ve met some lovely people. He was engaging and attentive and made our experience so much better.

Horrible and rude personal

By Nakita |

Absolutely horrible! You come all the way from Sweden for a holiday and are met by the rudest person ever! Thanks for making the beginning of my holiday suck! The lady at this restaurant needs to get an attitude check! We were at the one on Maddison street! We stood by the door for 5 mins before getting help, she just stood in the corner talking to her colleague. Then she just made snide comments the whole time.

Excellent

By cdgardner |

After spending an afternoon at the Chicago Cultural Center, we had a late lunch at Pizano’s on the recommendation of the staff at the Cultural Center. We got tortellini soup and deep dish Jeweler’s Special pizza - everything was great and reasonably priced - would go here again

Try your pizza "Detroit-style"

By Michanmldr |

Great atmosphere, staff & of course pizza. If you want a change from the always great Chicago style pizza ask for one Detroit style with cheese beautifully browned on top with sauce underneath! Another great try is the carb-free pizza with an all sausage "crust", of course Chicago style!

Outdoor Lunch

By Weber |

My family and I chose this place for the outdoor seating and the area. The food was ok, the service was great & the manager was over the top about taking things off of the bill that we did not like. My kids were happy to have Gluten Free pizza!

Really good restaurant

Our Favourite Pizza Restaurant in Chicago

By LucyLapwing |

This is our favourite pizza restaurant in Chicago. The deep dish and thin crust pizzas are both fantastic and full of flavour and the staff are always really friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back when we next visit Chicago.

Happy to be hear

By abcoldgit |

We ate here on our first night in town simply because it was near our hotel and we were tired and hungry. It turned out to be a good decision. The place was full of locals, always a good sign, the food was excellent and the server helpful in pointing us to the right part of the menu. A couple of nights later we ate at the more heavily advertised competitor and the pizza was not a patch on the one we had here.

Friendly Italian Restaurant

By Martin P |

We visited Pizanos during an all too brief visit to Chicago. It is very welcoming and friendly wih was appreciated after a long journey. Our pizza was good and arrived quickly. Recommended.

Great way to celebrate the Final Four

By Taylor B |

It was the day of the Final Four, one of the most long awaited evenings of television viewing of any year, two college basketball games that rarely disappoint for excitement. And it's always a good time for pizza (for me) and chicken parmigiana (for my wife) while we're watching the play-by-play. Our new pizza destination, Pizano's Pizza & Pasta at 864 North State Street--our old pizza favorite, Bella Luna at Dearborn and Superior, went out of business--has proven to be just what the doctor ordered. So I called for my standard order earlier than usual, anticipating a delay because of the Final Four. A large thin crust cheese and sausage pizza--with extra sausage. And a chicken parmigiana dinner with mostaccioli and meat sauce. "An hour," he said. But it only took 40 minutes, the usual time. But what was most incredible about it all was the pizza was the hottest delivery I have ever experienced, in over 40 years of ordering delivery pizza, at three different downtown Chicago residences, from five different pizza parlors. No exaggeration. Like it came straight out of the oven. Pizano's version is understated...chewy but not stiff crust, not too much tomato sauce, not too much cheese, just enough Italian sausage, easily digestible. Filling, yes, but not so much that I can't nibble on some of my wife's chicken and mostaccioli and Vienna bread. While still keeping an eye on the basketball game.

Our new favorite pizza destination

By Taylor B |

I've been hooked on pizza since the late 1940s, when my parents used to order from a pizza parlor on South Vincennes Street, a few miles from our home in suburban Blue Island. The bought three or four pizzas with pepperoni for a party with friends. In the morning, my brother and I would go downstairs and eat cold pizza. Sometimes, I think it's better that way. But pepperoni was too spicy for me. Ever since, I have preferred thin crust cheese and sausage--with extra sausage. Over the years, we have sampled pizza from several different sources. Some closed, some didn't deliver in our neighborhood, some just didn't measure up. Now my wife and I have found a new home, Pizano's Pizza & Pasta at 864 North State Street in Chicago, a spinoff of the famous Malnati brand. I order pizza while my wife prefers the chicken parmesan dinner with mostaccioli and meat sauce. With a side of fresh Italian bread. The pizza is different from any other I have experienced...chewy, not-too-soft crust, firm mozzarella cheese, not gooey, plenty of delicious Italian sausage, no spicy flavor. This marked the third time we have ordered home delivery from Pizano's on State and the service is swift (45 minutes) and the food is hot. Everybody seems to have a different taste in pizza. Pizano's suits us.

Great food and service

By dej7464 |

We stopped here on a whim because it smelled so good as we walked past. The meatballs are amazing! We also had four cheese tortellini and gnocchi with meat sauce both were delicious and the portions are large.

Average service. Authentic pizza.

By Aussyrunner |

Quaint little restaurant in a great location. Those are the plus points. The service here was pretty poor. I visited at lunchtime and it wasn’t that busy. The guy at the desk was on the phone and didn’t even acknowledge me as I walked in. When he did come off the phone he was dismissive and didnt seem to care. Initially sat at the bar - guy serving was friendly enough however it all felt a little bit strained with conversation. When left again no acknowledgement and wish now I’d not tipped as the service didn’t warrant it. The Chicago pizza was quite different - a thin crust, deep filling, almost like a pie. It was interesting and worth trying. However I think there are places that will offer better service for a traditional pizza.

Disappointing Customer Service

By DLS |

Not a good experience. They made our pizza incorrectly so we waited for more than an hour for them to remake our original order. Despite this, they charged us full price and when I asked about it, I was told, “the manager is in a meeting but he might be around for the night shift if you want to come back.” He then informed me that, “to be honest, it’s not going to change because that’s just the way things are around here.” And after all that, the pizza was average. Disappointing.

Had a bad service experience... Ordered deep dish pizza that was delivered on next table, people on next table took pictures with that dish, touching it and it was there for almost 10 minutes. And then they realize it's supposed to be delivered on my table so they took it inside and after around 5min gave me the same one... canceled my order and left that place with bad experience...

Average at best

By Blubusdrvr |

Pizano's didn't live up to the hype. I sat at the bar and got a small pepperoni deep dish. Let's start with the good: Jeff at the bar was great. Great service, great personality and never let my glass get empty. I like the atmosphere. Maybe I'll come back and get a sandwich or something. As for the pizza, for starters, the crust was very hard, overdone and tasteless unlike the light, flaky, buttery crusts I've had on other deep dish Chicago pies. It was as if they were pre-made and filled to order. Like I said I ordered pepperoni. I can count how many slices of pepperoni I got on one hand. I've had single slices of pizza with more pepperoni than this entire pie. Again, in other locales the pepperoni is packed into the deep dish. The tomatoes/sauce were great and the cheese was awesome. Bottom line: for the price I was VERY disappointed. At half that price I still would've thought: "this isn't what I was expecting "

Excellent crazy good pizzas

By Theo V |

We had some wine (Malbec) and a deep Chicago style pizza as well as a crunchy style pizza. Both were more than excellent. Fantastic. Patrick, bartender, gave us good advice. The interior is real nice, the music certainly what we like.

lunch for one

By PWF1957 |

This was recommended to me by someone local when I was visiting Chicago. Good staff sat at bar and great thin crust Pizza

Wanted to love it ... but left disappointed,

By Peter T |

We had high expectations given the reviews we'd seen ("Best thin crust pizza in Chicago" according to Oprah) but it really wasn't great, The pizza itself was poor - a sweet biscuit base, not real pizza at all - and I'm afraid the service was less than wonderful too. Our server - Chuch - was 70+ years old and a real character - the kind of guy you wanted to love, but didn't necessarily want to remember and deliver your order. We ordered a glass of Chardonnay and got Cabernet - but he was so nice we just accepted it. I dunno - the pizza was disappointing and the lobster pasta was overwhelmed by the sauce. Just nowhere near as good as we'd hoped it would be.

Who makes the best pizza in town?

By Taylor B |

The history of deep dish pizza began in Chicago in 1943 when Rudy Malnati Sr. opened his first restaurant, Pizzeria Uno, at Wabash and Ohio. And the saga added another chapter when Rudy Malnati Jr. opened Pizano's Pizza & Pasta at 864 North State Street in 1991. Along the way, Malnati's also produced what was described as the "best thin crust pizza in Chicago" and Oprah Winfrey's favorite pizza. Well, if it's good enough for Oprah, it's good enough for us. My wife and I have never been devotees of deep dish pizza. Our standard delivery order at Pizano's is garlic bread with marinara, a large, 14-inch thin crust cheese and sausage pizza with extra sausage and a chicken parmesan dinner with meat sauce and mostaccioli. With strawberry cheesecake for dessert. Everybody loves pizza, of course, but everybody has his or her own favorites. Hard crust? Chewy crust? Very light crust? Very thin crust? Too much cheese? Not enough cheese? Too much tomato? Not enough tomato? Italian sausage? Prosciutto? Pepperoni? What toppings? How many toppings? In our opinion, Pizano's checks all the bases...light and chewy crust, just enough cheese and tomato, plenty of Italian sausage. And the delivery is always hot and fresh. Pizano's is open from 10 to 10 daily. The chain also has locations at 61 East Madison, 800 North Dearborn and 2106 South Indiana.

Nice alternative to the 'other' Chicago pizza places

By JBretteD |

I am in Chicagoland regularly, and rotate around the various pizza places. We were visiting our Son who lives a few blocks away, and stopped in for an early dinner. Pizza is just as good as any in Chicago, service was excellent, and they have a solid beer and wine selection. Right on State, in the middle of everything. Easy to find, would go again in a heartbeat.

Chicago Style

By LMicheleS |

We were staying a few blocks away at the Knickerbocker and were on the hunt for a good deep dish pizza and saw Pizano's. I think we hit just before the rush, which worked out well for us and were seated immediately. Out waiter was very attentive in all ways. Very nice...I'm SO sorry I don't recall his name! He tried to upsell us on appetizers and drinks but we knew that a deep dish would fill us up and more, so we sadly didn't partake. This is a restaurant but also has a full bar, so is probably great for watching sports and throwing back a few too. The pizza was made fresh, which can take some time but worth the wait. This was my first time having deep dish (Chicago style) pizza, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. It was good - fresh tomato sauce on top. Super filling - there were two of us that shared a small. That was plenty of food. In a way I'm bummed we didn't have the appetite for desert. I would have loved to try it here. Coming from the west coast, I'm not sure when I'll get back to Chicago. However, if I ever do I will be checking out Pizano's if its near where I am to try other menu items!

Phone Order guy rude

Almost canceled order. Phone guy most ignorant. Hopefully the pizza is good. Don't want to deal with home again. Next time I'll call Connie's.

Friendly staff, good service and great pizza

By Steve N |

Friendly staff, good service and delicious pizza. We had the cornmeal based thin crust pizza for our group and it was tasty. The place was fairly busy and we were still served promptly. Would go there again for sure.

Good Deep Dish Pizza

By Paisan P |

We have eaten at all the big name pizza joints in Chicago and wanted to give this place a try. We were seated quickly, no wait which is a plus in Chicago. We ordered a small meat deep dish and a glass of wine. The small deep dish was plenty for two people. The pizza had plenty of toppings and the sauce was excellent. I would have given them a five but the crust was very overcooked along the sides of the pan a very hard. We will go back and give them another try.

Great atmosphere and pasta!

By Royal_h29 |

We visited Pizano’s one evening and were not disappointed. The service is great and the pasta bowls huge! Would definitely return.

Excellent read and pizza's crust

By h m |

I'm not a bread fan and in my place pizza is very thin. Deep dish pizza surprised me, the crust was unbelievable good and the garlic bread with cheese amazing and the bread itself was incredibly light! Pizza takes 30 minutes of waiting, worth it!!, if too hungry and a party of two, start with the garlic bread while waiting for the pizza Rating of 4 because it is not a fancy place, but best pizza Chicago style for many locals

Best Deep Dish in Chicago

By Mikhail Rudakov |

Pizano's is easily the best deep dish pizza place in Chicago. We had a large Cheese and Sausage pie, and it was fantastic. Garlic bread very good as well. Warm atmosphere and helpful waiters. Highly recommend.

Don't Let the Italian Name Mislead You

By Mistrzu |

Their Madison Street location serves sub-standard pizza. Inside, the restaurant looks like a real-deal Italian restaurant, given the decor of many sports and other photographs adoring its walls, but the food (and the experience) disappoints in many ways. Our server was very pleasant and communicative, yet she was profusely, however excessively, apologetic about the delayed service, making us somewhat uncomfortable. Our pizza arrived with flaky crust that broke under the knife rather than got sliced. The toppings looked and tasted un-fresh, some pieces of meat were a bit shriveled like fallen autumn leaves. The pizza came on a round cardboard placed on a tray. A giveaway for a frozen item bought at a local store? The location draws tourists as the restaurant is on the way toward Michigan Ave, but we felt it was a tourist trap. This restaurant leaves much to be desired to call itself "Italian."

The worst experience

By XG |

I got a recommendation of their pizza and I am sure it is good, the problem is that they didn’t let me ordered it. I went to Chicago for a Congress, and today was my last day so I wanted to taste the famous pizza but I made the mistake of going alone so when I requested a tiny puzza they didn’t let me ordered it because it was just for kids. It didn’t matter if I was going to request also an entree, I couldn’t order it. So I didn’t enjoy the entree because I was angry, the service is awful for people going alone so I don’t recommend going there. I am not going to make the same mistake again!

authentic chicago pizza!

By adambright2000 |

We got the thin crust, and after about 25min the perfect pizza arrived. small comfortable crowded place. waiter with the old school italian accent. exactly what i wanted.

Very recommendable 👌

The best pizza in Chicago and the delicious César Salad 🫶🏻good prices and the best atmosphere 👏🏻Also the attention of the waiters is spectacular👌

Driver from restaurant called me asking for a cash tip on paid for food at 10:40pm. It felt like a demand

By Amber W |

Ordered food to go via delivery app. The driver called my phone multiple times at 10:40pm to ask for cash tip. A grown man. A tip could have been added if the delivery experience was favorable. Tips are earned. The man was not friendly. I did not enjoy my delivery experience. I do not appreciate any solicitation for cash tip before my order experience is complete. A tip for those ordering, tips can be added after delivery!

Best pizza and service!

By Val S |

AMAZING...... The best pizza!! The sweetest server and so curtious (although we showed up at almost closing time). I cannot wait to revisit soon.

Really not a place to grab a slice

By ofer d |

Usually I don’t write bad reviews but we came to grab a slice, it’s cost 5 USD. The dough was like crust and not eatable and the cover not good too.

Best Pizza I Ever Had!

By LA1256 |

Had a very enjoyable dinner here - in fact the best pizza I have ever had! Service was very good and we were advised to take a smaller pizza than we intended as it would be adequate for two people, which it was. Lively, friendly atmosphere and friendly staff. It looks like this is a chain but it didn't feel like it in the least.

Meatballs too

By Connie K |

I started with a side of meatballs and sauce, which had good flavor. The gluten free pizza was served so hot I couldn't touch it for a couple minutes. Crust was thin and crispy, a good support for the toppings. Server answered all my questions and was friendly and available. I had leftover pizza, which was part of the plan.

So happy we walked in!

By Pistol Pete |

Our first stop after taking the train from midway. The smell and ambiance pulled us in! Prices responsible with the quality you get. Wife and I split a small deep dish . 🤯🤯🤯 so good. Not exactly like the small shops out east - wait time a little longer, but that extra time was well worth it! Fresher ingredients, care with presentation. Just go!!!!

Deep Dish Meets Expectations - Service Exceeds!

By Angela B |

This spot was great for a casual night out. We had a deep dish substituting pepperoni for sausage no problem. We were in a side room with a lot of white tile and the wait person was kind enough to turn down the lights to make it more comfortable. The wait was reasonable - about 30 minutes. Recommend making reservations.

Deep dish yummy

By Vickie S |

We live in Florida and our favorite Italian restaurant there recommended Pizano’s so we tried it while we were in town. Deep dish with mushroom and sausage...... talk about cheesy delicious pizza!!! WOW. Put our name on the wait list for a table, they gave us a menu and said we could order our pizza while we wait and it would be ready when we were seated.... we’ll we started looking over the menu and they had a table for us to sit! We had there calamari and it was light and perfectly cooked! Make a stop here !!! It was GREAT!

Great pizza. Great atmosphere.

By LuckyFilly |

We walked to this restaurant from our hotel which was very convenient. The food and service was excellent. Fresh salad. Authentic Chicago deep dish pizza. We loved the atmosphere, like a neighborhood bar that had been around for a long time.

Amazing pizza

By Ina R |

Went a family of five and had dinner. Two medium pizzas and two spaghettis. The pizza was amazing, maybe the best we’ve ever had. And such a cosy and friendly place. We’ll be back!

Don’t come for a nice dinner

By Good S |

Awful experience at this restaurant. Had a group of guys yelling in the bar and at our table, when brought to manager’s attention nothing was done as they ordered more shots. As they continued to drink they started making comments to our table as we told management again nothing was done. As their table left they stoped at our table to make comments to our face and as both parties are separated the manager Devin stepped in to tell our table we are in the wrong and that it’s a holiday weekend and things like this will happen. Understanding this is a holiday weekend but there is still a stander for serving to many drinks. As it continued Devin also said if you don’t like the service then we can leave and we did just that and won’t be coming back for a nice dinner again.

Maravilha!

By Vanessinha |

Wonderful! The portions are great, fair price and excellent service! The food is very good and tasty! It was worth seeing!

Delicious (and large) portions, family feel

By Tracy M |

We received a warm welcome on arrival. We thought there may be a wait for a table, but the restaurant is larger than it looks. Service was friendly and fast. Both pasta and pizza was delicious (and half of it came home with us as portions are big). We recommend the tortellini, the marsala, meatballs and the garlic bread.

Yummy deep dish, don’t delay go today!

By Egypt |

I visited the Pizano’s near McCormack Place Friday night. Very friendly and super helpful staff. Manager (Mike) very customer focused and Frank the bartender is attentive, hilarious and engaging with his customers. We ordered the sausage and vegetable pizza. Vegetables were fresh, not canned tasting. The mozzarella was a rich, chewy mozzarella and not salty. The crust was thick but not to the point where it overpowered the pizza. Highly recommend if you are visiting for a conference and want an authentic, convenient to the hotel restaurant. Lots of sports memorabilia from da Bears, plenty of tv’s etc., the pricing for the food and drinks was very reasonable, almost inexpensive considering we ate in the city.

Fantastic first experience of Chicago pizzas

By HealyTribe |

Being our first time in Chicago we were keen to try the famous Chicago Deep Pan Pizza and we definitely chose the right place to go! The restaurant was busy and we had to join a queue, which we didn't mind as it was a sign it was obviously good. Our 20 minute wait, turned out to be about 5 and we were shown to a table - we did move as we were definitely in a bit of a walkway but that was no problem for the staff! Our waitress Haylee came over & we explained we were 'Chicago pizza virgins' and she was more than happy to help us, offering suggestions and tips on what to order. We went for deep fried ravioli (yum) as starter and a meat pizza for main, washed down with some wine & beer. It did not disappoint - the food was hot and delicious, with the ravioli being a complete revelation to us. Great choices Haylee! It was clearly a popular choice with locals too. Everyone was really friendly and helpful, there was different sport on different TVs, so even if the ambience and buzz of the restaurant didn't interest you there was something to occupy you while waiting for food. Sorry no reviews on desert...we were just too full!

Always the good choice

By cleguiloulou |

I am coming in this restaurant since my first time in Chicago 16 years ago and honestly it’s my favorite place for a good Chicago pizza pie!! The service is so nice and the food is georgous! Ask for a pizza with extra cheese and a salad (they are very tasty) you can share the food easily. I can’t wait to be back

Chicago Pizza at it’s best

By Shayne U |

A wonderful pizza parlor owned by the Malnati family but on a smaller scale this felt like a family pizzeria. Highly recommended by the bartenders at the Four Seasons, we knew this was the place to have our pizza. We were told to be prepared to wait at least 45 minutes for the pizza and they were right as rain. But it was worth it. We enjoyed a beer, watched people and enjoyed great conversation. Mark our server was both friendly and attentive. We had a thin crust pizza with pepperoni, onions, mushrooms, green olives and jalapeños on the side. Delicious. There were families there with babies. They are brave as the wait is long and usually the younger ones can’t sustain the wait. Just an FYI for families with small kids. Otherwise a great place for Chicago Pizza.

Great First Chicago Deep Dish Experience

By N V |

Really good experience at Pizano’s. This was my first time trying Chicago deep dish and it did not disappoint. I ordered online and walked over from my hotel to pick it up. The host was very friendly and had my drinks and pizza ready right away. I appreciated that the to go Diet Cokes were large 16oz cans, which was a nice touch. I ordered a small pepperoni and jalapeño deep dish and it was excellent. I would definitely come back.

Rude waitress

By NONE N |

The worst service from rude waitress that has no people service skills. She rather cater to caucasian mind you she yelled and made the decision not serve my family and I. Do not recommend

Straight ahead Italian

By SeattleBuster |

Spaghetti/marinara/meatballs tortellini soup. The spaghetti dish proportion was generous and the meatballs and sauce were what you hope for. The tortellini soup was nothing special but was chock full of tortellini and more than I really needed. Very nice Italian restaurant vibe and decor. Alcohol is expensive ($8 for a draft beer and $7.50 for a shot of Jack Daniels - maybe not expensive for Chicago, but...). Plenty of TV's scattered around the restaurant, but not offensive if you aren't interested in whatever sport was on. Serve was timely and not overly friendly (which was fine by me). I'd happily go back with some friends and explore more of the menu.

Massive portions, lively place to eat

By Helen W |

We turned up in Chicago on the day the Bears were playing at Soldier Field so the city was heaving. We dived in here after exploring Millenium Park and were made immediately welcome by the lovely staff. The place had quite a buzz with TV screens showing the game and a large bar area, it was very busy and noisy but a good atmosphere. My pizza when it came was huge and very tasty. My husband’s risotto could have fed a small family, he said it was incredibly delicious but impossible to finish!

Disappointing experience. Should have gone to Lou Malnati's Pizzeria.

By Passport33312387278 |

Recommended by our guide as the best deep dish pizza in Chicago. Very disappointed. The pizza is cooked in an aluminum pan and taste like aluminum. Also the pizza had very little dressing on top. I'd call it a half full deep dish pizza. Also had the house salad... disappointing!!! Don't go there, there is better pizza elsewhere.

Great neighborhood find

By Maria F |

This restaurant has a fun atmosphere and a large menu to work from. The service was lovely and personalized and the food and wine were delicious.

Nope.

By jasonespencer |

If you're visiting Chicago, I would not choose this place if you only get to pick one pizza place. We ate at a competitor the first night and it was much much better. The pizzas here are smaller but the same price. I do like the taste but you do not get near the amount for the money. We did visit during covid-19. The pickup window was the only thing available. It's a little sketchy outside. Service is not great. I most likely won't come back because I will pick a different place in town that I have had that is much better. Especially for the price. If I spend $25 on a pizza, I better be full.

A Chicago Pizza Experience

By Elton Richey |

Came to Chicago for baseball, hotdogs, jazz and Pizza. Staying close to Giordano’s so tried there first. But not taking reservations and had a two hour wait, even for take out. This place was close so walked over and got right in, even though very busy. Friendly hard working attentive staff. Authentic Chicago atmosphere, and great selection of Italian dishes. (Really need to come back and try a few other things.) But, we came for the pizza, and ordered a medium deep dish (Chicago style) sausage, mushrooms, basil, tomatoes and green peppers. But the Pizza takes a while. (Did I mention that is is Deep Dish?) so we started with calamari (my favorite) and a salad. Salad was nothing to write home about but was a serviceable house salad. The calamari on the other hand were a 9.5 on my 10 scale. Fried crisp, fresh and tender, while sufficiently firm and not chewy. Served with fresh lemon and a simple house crush tomato marinara. Next came the pizza. We should have ordered the small as the medium was two slices too much two people. It was my first experience with Chicago style deep dish and the only disappointment was we simply could not eat it all. Even after I pushed the last two slices away, I kept coming back for just another nibble. The crust was incredible, thick, crisp and caramelized just a bit. And it stayed crisp without getting soggy as the meal went on. Significantly, the sauce of crushed tomatoes was subtle and not overloaded with garlic, oregano and other herbs and spices. That really allowed the remainder of the toppings, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, basil, and green peppers and creamy mozzarella to play starring roles. I have no other Chicago pizza experience to compare it to, so I’m just going to say it was a great pizza and we whited the experience, . . . And, I give Pizano’s 5 bubbles!

First Impression Not So Good

By ESL |

My family and I love Italian food and this being our second trip to Chicago we decided to try a different place since we had a subpar experience at Giordano's a few nights before. Pizano's was no better! I ordered their Italian sausage sandwich. The sausage was the size of a hot dog and as for being "smothered in our special sauce," there was no sauce! My wife ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo...overpriced. It was a little dry but good...definitely needed more sauce. Some butter and Italian bread on the side would have nice! My son ordered the individual thin crust pizza...Hawaiian style with ham and pineapple. It was disgusting. The kicker was the pineapple. They placed the whole ring of pineapple on the pizza. Who does that? Chop it into pieces the correct way. The only bright spot was the fried calamari, although overpriced. Delicious and well prepared.

First ever deep dish!

By Orangcar |

I've been to Chicago a number of times and always wanted authentic deep dish, but I never had the time to wait for the pie to cook. This weekend I had the time and a number of people recommended we try Pizano's. I liked the atmosphere, there were plenty of TV's for sports viewing and the staff and atmosphere were nice. Just over 40 minutes after we ordered our deep dish pie arrived. The pie looked great and I really liked the sauce and the crust, but the toppings (onions and peppers) were uncooked and tasted almost raw, and the cheese was just very think and solidified really quickly after the pie was delivered. All in all, we ate the pizza, but I'm still looking for a deep dish pie that I can say was great experience.

Tasty, but mediocre quality.

By Johan053 |

We visited this restaurant in May with 3 people. The service was correct, we had risotto and lobster ravioli. The risotto was more than sufficient, but completely dried out and 1 thick, dry bite that was clearly heated in the microwave. The ravioli was good, but way too thick sauce and no lobster in the ravioli. It's basic Italian that is way too expensive for what you get. Not recommended.

disorganized at arrival, bad pizza crust

By k8lsut |

It took a while to get seated, not because they were slammed (they were busy though) but because the hostess and someone who helped her weren't there, and they seemed very confused about seating people when they got back to the station. It took awhile to get waited on and drinks, but after that things went smoother. I was super excited for a deep dish pizza. The crust however was terrible. It was too hard to bite through and actually tasted like cardboard. I really think it had been frozen and then re-cooked. My friend had pasta that she said was fine.

Delightful dinner in amazing alive atmospheric setting

By redhead286 |

Found restaurant by chance having walked past many others. The outside does not prepare you for the awesome atmosphere when you enter. Shown to table and waiter for evening was Dan. Bubbly personality and on the ball taking drink order and giving us menus to peruse. Amazing selection of meals. Decided on lemon chicken and ravioli. When meals arrived they were huge portions. I had watched lots of take home boxes being prepared. Food was amazing. Piping hot and so tasty. Pasta meal beat me but had take home box with the idea of giving to someone homeless out on the street. This restaurant is an absolute gem and I would highly recommend. All staff are so friendly and worked so hard while we were there

Great deep dish

By maxpaste |

We had some great deep dish pizza here. I had previously only had it at Lou Malnatis while in town, but this was just as tasty. I learned something new: hot Giardiniera!

Good pizza and atmosphere.

By addVICE |

We tried the family-sized salad, the fried ravioli, the thin crust pizza with pepperoni, and the deep dish with sausage. All were very good and plenty for a group of 6.

Excellent Deep Dish Pizza

By Dickens C |

We ate at their location on 61 E Madison St... Could not visit Chicago without having deep dish pizza... was not disappointed... we were pressed for time and did not realize it usually can take 45-60 minutes to prepare during the busy lunch... another popular location said it would be over 60 minutes... explained to the waiter our time situation and he guaranteed he would speak to his team to get us in/out quickly... our pizza came in about 35 minutes... I will most likely be ordering from them online

Tasty Gluten Free option

By KC l |

In city on business, recommendation came from the hotel. Great food! Waiter was fantastic! I had the gluten free ravioli with Alfredo sauce. I haven’t had a ravioli since I had to eat GF. I would recommend for GF food.

Greatest place

By Jane |

Popped in just for bite to eat as was running low, we had chicken wings medium spicy with lovely crunchy celery and dips, were so fresh and tasty. We had small Chicago style pizza was the best we have had whilst on holiday in Chicago. Waitress was friendly and attentive can certainly recommend this lovely place.

Great pizza and amazing waiter!

By Latonna S |

Ask for the chach when you go there, he is amazing and so are the other people! The pizza was so great.

It wa let down from all the hype. It was ok pizza at an elevated price. The thin crust was uniform.

By d123454321 |

I was let down from all the hype. It was ok pizza at an elevated price. The thin crust was uniform and had a lip, but no flavor. I expected more. The sauce didn’t raise up and speak. The toppings were fine on the Rudy’s selection, probably the best part of the pie. Service was ok, broke the cork on the wine, but got some help and recovered. Didn’t live up to expectations.

Poor pizza, ok service

By martha t |

Pizza was very average. Deep dish is another name for hard undigestable crust. Average. Long wait. Staff was ok but other groups came in AFTER us and were served 10-15 min BEFORE us. Frustrating.

Good pasta - but very noisy

By sharrongeg |

Hubby and I enjoyed dinner at Pizanos this evening. Two pastas and one soft drink was $34. Service prompt and friendly. Pasta was good, but tough to enjoy with babies screaming/crying and toddlers running around.

Phenomenal pizza

Order the deep dish (what else). Great service. Typical fun Chicago pizza place atmosphere. Great service.

Any location offers great Italian food!

By John M |

You can't come to Chicago without trying deep dish pizza. With the family we visited Pizano's near McCormick Place and were not disappointed. The cheese and pepperoni deep dish pie was properly cooked with plenty of cheese. Try the sausage crust pizza - unusually good. Friendly service.

Must have been an off day.....

By BluntedHedgehog |

The environment was right, the staff were perfect, the smells from the kitchen were great, so what went wrong? Garlic bread arrived overtoasted (hard) and cold with no garlic taste. Chicken parmigiana was sad: the breading was old and soggy and the chicken breast was dry and tough. Clearly it had been prepared hours earlier. The tomato cream sauce on my son's pasta was overseasoned into the Pain But No Flavor level. And this is a kid who can eat millions of Scoville units without breaking a sweat. I loved the staff and the place so I just can't figure out what went wrong. It made us so sad that we went to the Pier and bought many useless things.

Absolutely the best!

By TravelinMitch |

Absolutely the best!!! Chicago deep dish pizza is one of the crowning achievements of the human race, ranking along w/ electric lights and penicillin, and Pizano's is far and away the best. As vegetarians, we chose our pie w/ peppers, onions and mushrooms. The crust is a little crispy, the tomato sauce is delicious. Be absolutely sure to begin w/ green salad - the veggies are crisp and fresh and the salad dressing is the best you'll ever taste anywhere. I've lived in Chicago 46 yrs and tried most pizzerias, and this is our favorite.

Business Dinner

By j0hnm0sley |

Great atmosphere and attentive service. The food selection was great. We got a deep dish pizza which was a great choice. Great crust with plenty of toppings. We are big eaters and couldn’t finish it. I went back a couple of days later and had lunch. The Chicken parm was sooo good. I couldn’t believe the portion size, It was as big as the plate!

Fair to midling

By 196LindaC |

Found this cozy restaurant while walking and shopping. The visit started with slow service. Several tables that came in after us were served a considerable amount of time before we were. I had a risotto and my daughter had the chicken parmesan dinner which is one of her favorite meals. She didn't like her at all and mine was unimpressive. Needless to say, neither of us finished our meals or took the left overs home.

Great pizza, nice atmosphere

By Bjørn W |

I had the deep dish pepperoni pizza (added green peppers). I really am more of a thin crust person, but being a tourist in Chicago, I of course had to try it. And it was a lovely, steaming hot and very tasty pizza indeed. I will definitely come back and try other dishes here, if I get the chance.

Way past it’s prime

By Joseph B |

Brought in a new manager a couple years ago and jacked up prices and cut staff. Service has become horrible. Go to Giordano’s , Lou Malnati’s, or Uno/Due.... pizza is decent - over priced and staff acts as if doing you a favor but with horrible morale... it’s management... don’t come here ... maybe delivery but not worth the brain damage

Great place to try a Chicago deep pan pizza

A fantastic place to enjoy a deep pan Chicago pizza. The waitress was really helpful and guided us all through the best options. Introduced me to the Chicago Handshake!

Great food and service

First restaurant in Chicago and great choice. Had booked ahead and good choice as they were queuing when we got there. Waiter was very attentive and all the food we had was great quality and huge.

Great Pizza with Excellent Atmosphere

By TammieTravel |

We discovered Piazano’s on a recent trip to Chicago. We were told to try the thin crust pizza and we were not disappointed. The crust was flaky and the toppings were plentiful. The atmosphere is decidedly local with many customers appearing to be regulars. Our server/bartender was Bryan. He provided great service all while balancing a very busy night. I know there are more well-known pizza places in Chicago, but you should give Piazano’a a try. Your stomach will thank you.

My first idea was great in Chicago. WOW

Was my first Deep Wish Pizza in Chicago? A great pizza. Everything was perfect, no Mengel, everything was okay, I'll definitely go back at some point.

Good deep dish in Chicago

By MichaelKohn1 |

Usually stop here at least once on a visit to Chicago. Had my usual individual pizza. Excellent service. Sat at the bar to have a couple of beers, eat some pizza and watch some football. Close to Michigan Avenue if you happen to be walking around town.

First visit in 6 years - as good as ever!

We dropped in early Friday night for some top quality Chicago deep dish and a beer. It was already nearly full (no surprise) and we were ushered to one of the last free tables. The service was excellent, the deep dish rich with flavour (we had the Mark's surprise with extra toppings) and some fries, and the beers flowed. We will be back!

BEST DEEP DISH PIZZA! BEST ATMOSPHERE! BEST WAITER!

By Barbara S |

My daughter and I visited Chicago this past week and dined at Pizanos. They have, by far, the best deep dish pizza, atmosphere, and service of anywhere! Our server, Joe "The Chach" Chacho has been serving patrons at this location for 45 years and is famous...go ahead and google him! He had a personality that would not quit and made us feel very welcome. He remembers everyone's name too. He asked us where we were from, and we told him Baltimore Maryland. He laughed and introduced us to some other folks who were in the restaurant who were also from Maryland. I highly recommend this place. Joe is awesome.. the food is pretty good too!!

Good Pizza. Eats like a Meal

By Chip C |

First time in Chicago so HAD to try FAMOUS Chicago style pizza. Was pretty good. Eats like a meal! Personal size was perfect for each of us.

Not the pizza for us but great place

By Kelly R |

We ordered the fried raviolis which was delicious as was the house salad. We had deep dish sausage pizza With mushrooms which was a specialty. We did not know what to expect from Chicago style deep dish, and it wasn’t what we expected. I liked it but my girls did not. The raviolis were fantastic the staff was great and there was a lot more on the menu then deep dish pizza if that’s not for you.

Reasonably priced

By Radek |

Well decorated ambience, friendly staff, although one of the service ladies wanted to teach me some English. Pizza full of fat - welcome to USA! Walking distance from the Millenium Park, right Chicago center. Reasonably priced.

Rehearsal Dinner

By Madelyn B |

We were able to experience the deep dish and thin crust pizza during our private dinner - it was wonderful!

Pretty good Thin Crust Pizza!

By KrisFarley |

This was our second time visiting Chicago. We have tried the Chicago style deep dish pizza that everyone talks about here. However, the deep dish style just wasn't all that great for me. However, i did give this place a try and tried their thin crust pizza and loved it. So if deep dish pizza is not for you, give Pizano's thin crust pizza a try. Oh, and it was one of our last nights in the city, and i was too tired to go out, and they delivered to the hotel!! Yay!! Cheers

Cardboard

By Nelda M |

The sauce and the toppings were good but the crust tasted like cardboard. I would not recommend this pizza.

really big portions

By Veerah |

I ordered risotto. I had to wait 40 minutes for food. the service was slow, and they didn't want to help if the table didn't belong to the waiter in question. the portion was huge! no one can eat such a large portion. luckily, I could take the rest with me. I would not recommend the restaurant because of the service and the taste of the food. good location and could also eat outside on the terrace.

Yum!

Delicious food. The food was very tasty! The staff was friendly. We sat outside and it was very nice after a long day sight-seeing.

Friendly service, mediocre pizza

By DrParticle |

This is a warm and inviting restaurant with very good service. The thin crust pizza unfortunately just mediocre. Excellent toppings let down by too dry crust that tasted much like the frozen versions. We did not try the deep dish. Nevertheless the atmosphere made up for it. The place is definitely a good place for a large group.

Great deep dish pizza

By John E |

Great deep dish pizza and excellent wait staff. The deep dish will take awhile (25 minutes) to cook, but it’s worth the wait. I’ll return!

Pure garbage

By anthonymichael52 |

The worst excuse for a pizza, Cardboard and crap..I should have ordered from the real king of pizza, Lou Malnatis, not Rudy Malnatis..I wouldn’t serve this garbage to my worst enemy..and to add insult to injury..it cost almost 40 bucks for a medium, which would have been a small everywhere else..what a rip off..run don’t walk away! This was for delivery and not dine in..oh, and 6 bucks to deliver 4 blocks..

Pizza Pie

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie…. Great bar and nice Pizza Pie. And good attentive staff. Prices reasonable and nice beer selection

Literally the ABSOLUTE WORST-Manager is despicable

By Jennifer C |

My family will never eat at this establishment again. We had reservations made more than a month ago to eat here, as we have done before. We arrived 5 minutes early and checked in for said reservation. We were told they were running a little behind which was totally understandable. We were waiting along the window/wall, completely not in the walkways and not in the way at all. Nobody was being disruptive. A waiter came by and rudely told to wait outside in the 22° weather. Which we had two 70 year old people in our party and four younger children but went outside like we were told. 45 minutes later, after watching people going in, not being ushered out, several being immediately sat, we went in to inquire. The "manager" could not have been more rude. He asked me if he should go ask tables of people to get up so we could eat. I said we were told we would have a high top in five minutes. I asked if he could push a couple of tables together to honor our reservation. He asked if I have managed a restaurant, which I have served in a restaurant before. He was incredibly unprofessional. I asked to speak with a manager and was told there was nobody above him to talk to, that he owned the place, which was not true. He refused to give me the name of the actual restaurant manager. He was combative and disrespectful. If this is the person that Pizano's has chosen to represent their business, they may want to rethink their management plan and representation. As a business owner, this individual would have been immediately fired from our staff. The hosts could have cared less about getting reservations sat. If you would like a pleasant family experience and literally not to be left out on the cold, pass on this place. Terrible service.

Not the best delivery

By Cruiselover1963 |

Had a deep dish pizza delivered. It was room temperature, and undercooked. Sauce was bland. Overall not a good experience.

Better Than Expected

By Joan C |

We dined here recently in the late afternoon. Three of us were seated promptly and the service was quite attentive. We ordered a Caesar salad for the table, which came with a bit of bread. The salad tasted fresh and was flavorful, and we had anchovies on the side. The pizza was deep dish, but not too deep. I was skeptical because I am kind of a pizza snob. We ordered half sausage and half pepperoni. Both sides were great. They use a bit of what is to me unconventional construction method of putting the cheese on top of the crust, then adding the sauce and toppings. This keeps the crust crisp. It was quite good and I would go back. Recommend.

Control of mob and keeping us safe

By Lori Pichardo |

We enjoyed our experience at the restaurant. We have been here a few times and we love it. It’s really good pizza! On Saturday there was a mob of teens. The hostess, she seemed to represent the kindness and safety at her expense. She made us feel safe and she helped us get out of there by some miracle. I don’t know her name but I am inspired by her! She is definitely our guarding angle. We will enjoy your food every time we are in Chicago. THANK YOU so much!

friendly and tasty

the last night of our weekend we visited Pizano's. I had chicken marsala, tow others had deep dish pizza. Mine was very tasty and I think the others enjoyed their pizzas. Our waiter was Rip and he was excellent.

Last night in Chicago

By Adventurer46680 |

We wanted to have a deep dish pizza while in Chicago and this place was walking distance from our hotel. We sat outside which is basically on the sidewalk, but we enjoyed people watching. The pizza was great, the waiter was wonderful and I think it was the manager who came out to talk with us and made us feel like part of the family. We had a delicious dessert that tasted like a soft chocolate chip cookie smothered in whipping cream that melted in your mouth. We will definitely recommend this place and hope to return soon. My mouth is watering thinking about it!

No flavor

By Kalisha F |

Plain tasting pizza with no seasoning. I ordered the Marks special. Sauce just tasted like plain tomatoes from a can. No flavor into the crust. Tomatoes were not seasoned. Cheese was not cheesy. Crust was dense and hard to chew. Too many big chunks of garlic. I’m disappointed….

Perfect family dinner

By Tim B |

Came here on a locals recommendation and have a fantastic experience. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was great, and the pizza was incredible. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Absolutely delicious fresh food

By wadegalt |

Ambience is great, food is delicious, can’t wait to go back! The pasta marinara is out of this world! Generous portions and extremely reasonable prices.

Had to try it, not impressed.

By BadiaW |

We had to try the famous dip dish pizzas. We were not sure what to expect but had high expectations. They do take a long time to serve and to be honest I was not blown away by it. But I guess we had to do it.

Top choice for old-school pizza and pasta in Chicago.

By Tastyfun |

I have been going to this awesome restaurant for years. The staff is top notch, and the food is amazing. The hosts are so nice. Vicente is an amazing bartender who is always on top of things. Great place for pizza and pasta. Old school charm brings in a great crowd. Tastyfun.co is our food blog, and we recommend this for the best pizza in Chicago.

Best Chicago Pizza

We love this place! Always get same order. Thin sausage and Chopped chick salad! Delicious! We have been going there for over 20 years!

Not the Best, but Not Back

By Charley W |

It was near the hotel, and it was pretty good thin crust pizza. They were very friendly, and the pizza was ready on time. Not great...but not bad. I would go there again

great meal

By davidgZ5542XO |

really enjoyed our visit here. We were able to sit at a table for 2 without pre-booking early on a Sunday evening. Restaurant was busy. Waiter was attentive and prompt. Shared a deep pan pizza. Prices reasonable. Happy to recommend

Highly recommend!

By Nina044 |

This place was recommended to us over Giordano's. It was very close to our hotel and I loved the vibe. It was old school and the deep dish pizza was to die for. I was so hungry and forgot how big the meals were so we ordered chicken nibbles as an appetiser so I was pretty full when the pizza arrived. It was so delicious. Staff were great too. We gave our leftovers to our friend's kids and they had pizza for breakfast and lunch. Way too much!!!
