We have stopped by quite a few times with our kids and their pizza is very good, though a tad pricey. The pepperoni they use is of good quality, not the cheap, fatty, greasy kind that most pizza places pass off as pepperoni and all of their other ingredients are equally on par. I enjoyed the chopped salad and the margarita pizza was very flavorful. It's nice to be able to watch them make the pizzas right in front of you and they have true brick ovens. The pizzas come out quickly and piping hot.

Visiting Philadelphia and had high hopes. The meatball appetizer was incredible, as was the pizza. The service was lacking, which was frustrating since the restaurant was not overly busy. We ordered wine and ended up canceling the order because it never came. Our water glasses were not attended to and our server did not check on us. Had our service been better I would have rated this one of the best pizza places I’ve been to.

The pizza is good -- these cheese is fresh and basil leaf on top make a terrific meal. Stella on draft so how can on go wrong?

Loved this place. First impression was great, as the hostess sat us purposely far away from a section where they were expecting a large/loud crowd. Secondly, our waiter was super nice and very knowledgeable. As far as food, we got the chopped salad and meatballs appy's. The salad was a bit dry, but after asking for and receiving some extra dressing, I loved it. The Meatballs were possibly the tastiest I've had in this lifetime. For main dishes, we got the Pistacchio and Margherita pizzas. I DON'T EVEN LIKE PISTACCHIO! All based on reviews I read about it...It was even more interesting and tasty than the Margheria, which was delicious. The Blueberry/Grapefruit Sangria wasn't great, oh well...Would come back here in a heartbeat.

Our son came across this place and recommended it to us. Really lovely space, super friendly staff in a lovely part of a town that’s not too far off the historic centre. The pizzas are truly delicious, wonderful flavours; nothing weird, just terrific simple food cooked well and nicely presented. One of favourite meals on our trip to Philly.

I visited Pizzeria Stella last weekend for a small shower which was in the bar area. The doors were pushed open and the weather was perfect. Staff was attentive in their matching black LOVE t-shirts. Food was delicious and plentiful. We tried the meatballs, risotto balls, brocolli rabe, salad, three kinds of pizza and delicious gelato. The risotto balls were crunchy with a creamy, cheesy interior and served with a terrific tomato sauce. Pizza was thin and baked to perfection. The gelato was also delicious. We will definitely return! A+++

I went there for a pizza with some friends. Was my first time and was really a surprise!! The pizza is cocked in a wood oven and you can really taste the difference!! The crust is delicious! Each of us tried a different one and I must say that the perfect choice was the "tartufo" one served with fontina cheese, tartufo and egg! Delicious!! Very good price over quality ratio.

I took off a star because although the pizza tasted heavenly and the place is very welcoming, the price of everything on the menu was steep. Our server was an articulate and attentive young man. The place was nice and toasty warming us from the outside chill. The interior was decorated nicely and the lights were dim playing into the ambiance. Even though it was cha-ching, I would go again. That pizza was yumski.

We went here on a stop before we headed home. Server explained the menu. Pizza was thin crust and good. I like the pizza oven in front and that you could see them make the pizza.

If You are walking around the New Market area of Philadelphia, in the Front & South Sts neighborhood, or anywhere close to the Head House Square area Your 1st dining choice may not be pizza but You should definitely consider Pizzeria Stella and its Wood Oven speciality. Wood Oven Pizza is not alone on the menu there are a number of Appetizers, Salads and Pasta dishes but the Pizza is where this restaurant gets creative, ex Brussels Sprouts w/ Pancetta, Cippolini Onions & Smoked Mozzarella option. We sampled the Margherita, Pepperoni & Brussels Sprouts Pizzas at a Wedding Rehearsal dinner held in their semi-private room (off the main bar-restaurant area) and were impressed. The Service Staff & Bartenders were Awesome!! The Beer was cold and the place had a nice vibe. I wouldn't think of Wood Oven Pizza in the Head House Square area but I will-now-because of Pizzeria Setta.

nice pizza place in a nice section of Philly ...The place is very clean and the people were friendly...the price is a little over the top but worth it, our kids loved the pan personal pizza and bottled root beer. would go there again next tome we are in Philly.

Ate here recently with a large group from work and they did a great job of serving us. The food was good with great meatball appetizers. I would not recommend the aranchini but other than that all was great. The pizza was good and the service was great. Well worth a visit

A rainy day turned drier, so we went to Pizzeria Stella to get out for a bit. Crab Gemelli was first class, the chopped salad with a house dressing and good beer were great. The gelato, caramel with salt worked well together. Service is very good. All in all it was a good day to eat out.

A very spacious and open restaurant. Tables are spaced comfortably. Staff was helpful and suggested good options as per our taste. Good thin crust pizza and a very good place to try vegetarian pizza.

I was so excited to eat here that I made my kids walk about 20 minutes out of our way, in the cold and rain and it was solidly fine. I think this is a fine neighborhood place, but if you've had decent pizza before, you won't be wowed bu this place, so don't go out out your way.

I don't often give 5 stars to a pizza place but this restaurant is worth it! It's a step above your average pizza place. Great food, great service, and great atmosphere!

My husband and I ate a late lunch here on a Thursday in July around 2:00. It was quiet so we had great service and food was served quickly. I ordered a ‘Nduja which is a white pizza with sausage and my husband ordered Linguine Cacio e Pepe with some sausage as protein. The flavors of the sausage made both of our meals out of this world great.

Thanks to Julie and the gang, splendid stone oven baked pizza (pepperoni, my fave), great corner block location to watch the world go by

We were in the city and decided to have a pizza. Stopped by Pizzeria Stella (since I had a gift card) and end up having a very nice dinner. Whatever we ordered: pizza, pasta, appetizers & drinks - everything was excellent. Plus, we got a very good waitress, Cecilia!!! Thank you for the lovely dinner!

I went with a group. This is a casual place but, still has a lot of atmosphere. The "centerpiece" is the large wood burning oven. The menu is Italian with pizza being the dominant offering. There are also salads (the chopped salad is the largest and the one that we were told is "shareable,) and a limited pasta offering. A friend and I shared the meatball appetizer--two huge tender meatballs in a great sauce and a white pizza special with roasted, garlic ramps----Fantastic. Others in our party had pizzas and all looked wonderful. The first six offerings on the pizza menu are red based while the last six are white pizza. Our server was really a sweet young man. My friend and I each ordered Prozeco and when the glasses arrived, her glass contained about an inch more wine. She made a fuss, this dear friend. The waiter overheard her, and came over and topped off my glass--certainly not necessary, but a nice gesture. Go, you will have fun!!

Great pizza, great service and a fun, relaxing atmosphere. Needed a break from the crowd on South Street and this was the perfect remedy. We got a booth in the bar and started with drinks and rosemary flatbread, which was delicious. Moved on to the romaine salad, which has a hint of mint. Ordered the pepperoni pizza and the brussels sprout pizza, which has pancetta and smoked mozz. Both disappeared, they were so good. There were three of us and we ordered two pizzas, which was the perfect amount. Nice mix of 20-somethings, families and older couples.

We took two families (8 people) for dinner. Kids had pizza and adults added pasta, meatballs and salads. Food is very good and the seating accommodates large parties. Good food and good place for families.

Best concept Italian Pizzeria, please try don't hesitate. We basically ordered pizza, tried like 4 different and let me tell you this place has great service and fast too. we didn't wait more than 15 minutes for our order. Loved the sorbet and the gelato is amazing too. So easy to find, I'M in love. Thanks philadelphia!

Beyond Amazing!!!! Every single thing about our experience at Pizzeria Stella was perfect! You absolutely cannot beat the atmosphere with the open pizza kitchen, wood-fired oven and brick walls. And, the customer service was wonderful. Everyone there was extremely nice and friendly. (Hard to find friendly people in Philly sometimes...) We sat at the bar and every single pizza that came down the line was beautiful. The oven is perfectly seasoned and makes for the best crust ever! I highly recommend the sheeps milk ricotta and the Rosemary bread... I could eat that every day for the rest of my life! And, every single bite of pizza is great! We've had pizza all over the world and this is definitely top 5...

We visited Philly over the 4th & took a bus tour. We got off the tour for lunch & happened upon Pizzeria Stella. The pizzas are a bit on the small side when you have a big family to feed so it can be a tad expensive, but the pizza was amazing. Our simple pepperoni & cheese was good and the white pizza with prosciutto & arugula was even better! The picky kids even enjoyed it!!!!

I can't say enough about the excellent service we received for our son's rehearsal dinner Friday night! Jamie and Chris were outstanding, friendly, and professional in meeting all of our needs that night. Everyone raved about the delicious food. Setting was perfect for our low-key and fun dinner the night before our son's wedding. We occupied the side room with bar which provide us some privacy from the main restaurant. It was a lovely night and could open the windows/doors to extend our party out onto the sidewalk. Steven Starr Restaurant Coordinators were easy to work with and very timely in their communication. Would highly recommend this restaurant for all occasions.

Spending a sunny Saturday at a local flea market on Philadelphia's Head House Sq and stumbled across this Steven Starr restaurant. Wood-fired pizza! The crust is tender, tasty and toppings (we had the sausage) were amazing. We sat outside and got to enjoy some SERIOUS people watching while dining. Had calamari as a starter and it was fresh, light and crispy while served with two delicious sauces. Staff was very attentive and it was a great way to get a nibble and enjoy the sun. Great place for a relaxed and delicious meal.

Once we finally got the waitress to take our order, we were amazed at how quickly our food came out. Our waitress also thought three pizzas for the six of us was too little (we had four kids with us). Well, we took more than a pizza home so I don't know if she always does the hard sell or we just looked really hungry. Pizza is the thin-crust true Italian style and tastes great but the sticker price is a shocker...especially if they expect you to buy a pizza a person.

My family was visiting my daughter and she suggested Pizzeria Stella for dinner. “A pizza place,” thought I? “I’m in Philly and want something more interesting than that.” I can say without any reservations, I was totally wrong. Correct that Stella’s is a Pizzeria but forget all of your stereotypes. We arrived at dinner time and were told we needed to wait 30 minutes. After some deliberation, we decided to wait the 30 and were shown to one end of a long table that sat 10 or 12. The staff had a bit of the Philly directness but was also funny, friendly and helpful. I didn’t get off to a great start with the Shrimp Arrabbiata for a hors d'oeuvres—I didn’t find the sauce “angry” and I’m not a fan of garbanzo beans (chickpeas) in general but especially not with my shrimp. The other end of the table got the Sheep’s milk ricotta and found it so tasty that they nearly decided to get one more order each as their entrée. Given my daughters assurance on the pizzas, we all got a different type and shared. All were delicious. Even the crust without any toppings was perfect! In order of my favorites: ‘Nduja (calabrian sausage, crushed red pepper, smoked mozzarella); Pistachio (with red onion, rosemary, fontina); Pepperoni (abbruzze pepperoni, oregano, mozzarella, tomato); and Margherita (san marzano taomato, basil, buffalo mozzarella). That said, they were all so good, it is difficult to put in order. By way of note, the "Pistachio" really has the nut with red onions. I was most incredulous about this combination and was, once again, was proven wrong as I’ve been craving another slice ever since our visit. Each pizza is too small to split between two adults but is enough for a normal adult plus a slice or two. Lastly, you may want to save space for a house-made gelato desert. These were also VERY good and should be ordered with variety in mind and shared between friends/family. End of the day, my daughter was right: this is not just another pizza place. It is worth a wait far longer than 30 minutes rain and all. I’ll certainly be back and will struggle between getting the pizza that I know is nearly a religious experience vs. the lamb Bolognese that looked fabulous but not yet sampled. What a wonderful problem to have!

Located just over a block from South Street, on 2nd Street, Stella offers good tasting pizza, full bar and lots of seating inside or a few tables outside. Service was very friendly, prices however were a tad high for some plates- pizzas were $10 and up, which was ok for personal size pizza, even two people could share the pizza if not too hungry, or combined with an appetizer; however the pasta plate we ordered, they come in small or large, was a ripoff: the small was $14 and it was a very small serving of pasta. Parking is on street, metered, check the signs.

We had a great lunch at Pizzeria Stella. The pizzas are a great size to share or for one, and the design of the restaurant is lovely. We had a nice relaxing lunch while on vacation. The location is great too!

The place is deservedly successful. It doesn’t take reservations so, naturally, the waiting time for a table can be up to 45 minutes. Once seated on the terrace, expect good pizzas and a few other Italian specialties ( the gnocchis were excellent and creamy) at a decent price. Our waitress was friendly, efficient and understood our needs with two little girls and a baby. Inside has a noise level unbearable for children or adults above 50. Overall a very good place.

Good place for lunch. Well located, easy to read menu and good options. Pizza was good, service too. With few good options in the area, Stella is a really good one for a quick bite.

Had an excellent meal at Stella. I had the Margarita Pizza and my husband had the Calamari. We shared the beet salad and broccoli rabe. We had really good service from our waiter, Douglas.

Stella's has quickly become a reliable staple with excellent pasta, pizza and everything else. So what happened on a recent Saturday afternoon. The food is still the best-5 stars yes. Let me preface this by writing that this was the ONLY time service was unprofessional. Being seated right away in the uncrowded restaurant, the waiter appeared, hands on hips and said "are you ready", so we know food is worth ignoring this. Upon receiving the check, I noted my disappointment with the salad because the lettuce was not the type that we previously enjoyed(Both my partner and I left the dish uneaten). Without remarking the waiter disappeared and the manager pleasantly appeared and said that she checked and there had been no change preparing that salad. Of course we did not expect an adjustment, we were just giving a great establishment feedback. She had indeed removed the said item from the check. The point is: The waiter's poor service and attitude The manager, although well intended perhaps would do better not to challenge the customer's input, but graciously accept feedback. The matter of the adjustment was not necessary. This is still a potentially 5 star all around restaurant, but service and attitude can be toxic.

Great place, great pizza perfect for a casual evening out. The pizza choices are perfect. SSomething are pperfectpsomething for every taste

The food here is fantastic. The pizza was very good. Very tasty and a delicious assortment of ingredient options. Would recommend to anyone.

Ate here on the last day of our 10 day trip and it was the best meal that we had the entire time. We had two different types of pizza. The crust was tender and thin and the toppings were delicious. We had two dinner salads as well that were very good. Overall great dining experience.

Love the egg on the pizza.. not a fancy place but very comfortable with good service and great pizza.

My husband and I just love our Saturday lunches we visit Pizzera Stella every Saturday. The food is just wonderful whether it is the brick oven pizza's, the appetizers, the beer, salad's, pasta...it is all wonderful...! The staff is amazing they keep us returning...they are truly wonderful!

The food is excellent, the service is fast. There are many long tables, some smaller ones, some outside, and in a side room room there are some booths for quieter dining. This is a great place to bring kids. The pizzas are made in an open oven in full view, so it's fun for kids to watch. It can get quite loud.

Stopped in for a late lunch and again was pleased with EVERYTHING! The thin crust pizza is the best in Philly as even the simplest choice reflects the best ingredients(the Margherita is an example) and tastes of Italy. The soups, especially the special fish soup is just amazing and the pasta, which you can order in both small and large plates leave you wanting to try everything on the menu. Wine is good and reasonable as is the Peroni for 6 dollars, This is comfort food at its best. A great place for families, couples and small groups as service is always top notch. Ambience says comfort and simplicity.-

We were visiting our son and his girlfriend in Philly and he suggested this place. We sat out side with our dogs, the wait staff brought out bowls of water for the two pups which was very nice. The food was very good we order two pizzas some appetizers and a couple of beers. Its was nice sitting out side, the area is very nice I think it's called society hill. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

There were few options for lunch around Society Hill, so I selected Stella primarily because it was open. I was very pleased with my Gemelli, which was very flavorful with fresh ingredients. The blackberry mint gellato was a nice finish

Great location, great atmosphere, family friendly with a bar area should you bring friends. Authentic wood oven, pizza bakes in 90 seconds. When traveling, I enjoy looking for “the best” pizza and clearly this ranks as one of those. Many other dishes are available and the service couldn’t of been any better.

I had my grandson and a friend to this restaurant for lunch. My friend and grandson each had small pizzas and I had the lamb bolognese. The food was very good. The service was excellent. This restaurant is very clean and in an interesting part of town. The pizzas were baked in a wood fire oven that sits in the center of the restaurant. The only negative was the bathroom. It is a WC and awkward.

We were so lucky to stumble upon this great spot while strolling over from Chestnut Street. The quality of food was wonderful. The three of us loved the grilled octopus, romaine salad, meatballs and margarita pizza! Our only disappointment was we didn't have room to try the family made gelato.

The thin crust wood oven pizza here is awesome! They have quite the variety of pizzas as well as appetizers, salads, and pastas. My favorite is the tartufo. However the pistachio is also great. You really cannot go wrong! There is some kick to the Picante. The house wine is quite decent, so a good option. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and offer take out.

Met our brother in law , sister in law , nephew and niece they enjoyed Pizzeria Stella as much as we do !! The food spectacular and the staff just the best !

I knew I am gonna love the pizzas here beforehand as the recommendation came from one of our Italian friend. So, the pizzas turned out to be awesome here. Try it yourself :)

Loved the ambience of the place! Started with the calamari which was outstanding - very lightly breaded and NOT greasy. That's important to me. Had the meatball app and it was DELISH! Use your pizza crust to sop up the extra sauce. Had a few pizzas and really loved the margherita the most. The cheese was the star. The pepperoni was good but sort of basic. I would go back!

I would like to knock down a highly rated corporate owned (Starr) place, but I'm afraid I can't - it was delicious and very well designed, from dining room to menu to execution. This is a fairly casual up-price pizza restuarant right in the heart of head house square off of south street. Besides a very nice array of appetizers (the meatballs are great) and salads (the kale salad was our favorite thing we ate and is worth the trip if you are a salad person) with a handful of pastas and then the rest is pizza. We found that sharing a small pasta and one pizza (they are large individual pies) was perfect. Beer list was good - though could be larger, italian wine list by glass and carafe was very nice (the barbera was esp. good). As far as the pizza: light, coal fire, amazing toppings. The Picante was spicy Cappicola was fantastic! Only negative is that the price can definitely add up more than you expect.

On every visit to Philly, we have to eat at Stella at least once. This visit, in six days, we ate there twice. The first time, we took our grandson who ate 3 slices of the Marguerite pizza...my husband devoured a sausage pizza and I had their most wonderful pistachio, red onion and mozzarella pizza. On our second time, for dinner, four adults and one toddler devoured 3 pistachio, 1 sausage and 1 Quattro formaggio pizza. The crusts are charred just enough to be the best. Service is always friendly and attentive. Everyone in Philly knows how great the food is at Stella evidenced by the huge crowds at night and on weekends. But I would advise any visitors to make this a definite stop on their next trip to Philadelphia. Stella is situated directly across from Headhouse Square which is in the beautiful sections of Queens Village/Society Hill.

This restaurant is located in Old Town right on the corner of the street, allowing for a very open-feeling setting. The brick oven is in the middle of the restaurant, so you can watch the chefs make your food. They have a lot of unique pizza options, including a white pizza with an egg on top (which might not sound that great but was amazing).

Great tasting food, we enjoyed pizza, pasta and gellato. Cappuccino tasted as back in Europe! Authentically Italian! Walking distance from downtown.

We visited in August and worried that we could not get gluten free at an Italian restaurant. They were very helpful in making and suggesting delicious things one could eat. They even surprised us with gluten free, freshly baked bread that was seasoned to perfection! We were very appreciative of our kind server and the great food we all had.

We had a 2 wonderful pizzas and the broccoli rabe. The special pizza had butternut squash and was mouth watering, thin crust, not oily, 4 different types of cheese. We then ordered a spinach pizza and that was excellent as well. 2 pizzas for 4 adults with a side was plenty of food. Broccoli rabe was awesome. The service was ok, even though we were there very early in order to see a movie. The staff did make sure we had plenty of time to eat and be on our way.

Attended a small party, on a Sunday evening. The assortment of pizzas, and salads,, fried calamari, olive tray, pizza bread and ricotta, tomato salad, etc. too much to remember, were all delicious. This place is a go to for anyone who enjoys a good Italian meal. The service was pleasant and accommadating. We had a great time.

It is a nice and cosy restaurant, where you are not packed. There are plenty of light in the restaurant and the unusual decoration gives a great atmosphere. Everything is marvelous: pizza with light and elastic dough, fresh ingredients, choice of white pizza, great salad and pasta. Service was perfect

We tried the Polpette meat balls made of beef, pork and veal, just wonderful. They are a good size of about 2”, with a nice marinara sauce and comes 2 per serving. We tried the pepperoni pizza and a special pizza of the day made with sopresatta, bacon and an egg which they spread the yolk around the pizza, this was a wonderful pizza.

Enjoyed a friendly family dinner, very nice and tasty dishes, well prepared and served. Excellent shrimp and calamari to start, very good pizza to make it.

Delicious food - fresh, creative, very enjoyable. Great drinks! And fabulous service. Also. Very convenient to the venue and parking.

Not knowing anything about this place, we only looked at pics for our quick decision. The photos we saw from an article about the top 10 best implied a nice higher end restaurant. It is not. Casual attire only is needed. Our table was too close to the table behind us and after a party of 4 including two children trying to out scream each other in our ears. Literally, they were in our ears. We tried to scoot the table a bit after the mother slammed her chair into mine without apologizing. I then assumed she intended to do so to make me scoot in. I had no where to go. I am not a large person by any means. A size 4 for reference. It seemed like it was kids night and it was a friday night. Apparently a favorite place for local young families. This was not what we expected. BUT the staff was amazing and helpful with a menu that is hard to grasp for newbies. The wine was very nice and the food was excellent. I have to say the calamari was very good. Very tender, good perfectly. If you have small kids and don't mind screaming children running around, this is your place. Thank God the food was 'grownup'.

Situated in the nice area of Society Hill. The pizza was a thin crust tasty pizza. The salad a disappointment at $8. Lettuce a couple of tiny tomatoes a few shavings of tasteless cheese and no dressing. The service was fast and efficient.

We attended a wedding here and it was GREAT. They have the best mozzarella sticks ever (served on sticks as passed appetizers). They also had baguette slices topped with ricotta, honey, and pistachios. Normally I don’t like ricotta but this was super creamy and the flavor pairing was SO good. I’d go again just for either of these two items.

The pizza is amazing. Made fresh from start to finish. Thin crust and only one size, 12 inches. Service was not terrible but not the best.

We went for dinner after a movie. The staff is helpfull and friendly. They have several rooms and a tables in a terrace outside. Food is good but not excellent.

This was our second time here and the food and service reminded us why we came back, the "shrimp in angry sauce" and pizzas were delicious!.

Another Queen Village gem. This is one of the Star Group of Restaurants. Home made pizza in wood fired oven. They have both red and white pizza (based on sauce). These are Neopolitan Style thin crust pizza's. Started with a Chop Salad and it was great. The pizza dough was thin yet fluffy almost like fresh naan bread out of the oven.

We've eaten here many times over the years and stopped in recently after a long hiatus. At Stella you get a high-end, delicious pizza and more. Stella does have "gourmet" pizzas, but I say high-end instead because you can still just get a pepperoni pizza that tastes great if you want. The high-end comes from the delicious dough from the wood-fired oven and the quality toppings. For me and my wife, we usually get appetizers and one pizza and we are full (and satisfied). My wife always gets the olives appetizer, which she says is 5-star awesome (and she knows her olives). We also get the sausage pizza which has a fantastic flavor with the long-hot pesto (not as hot this time around though). This is not really a romantic destination. It has some private tables inside, with some long-bench crowd seating as well. The set-up makes it loud. If it's early, there will be some kids. There are some tables outside too. They do not take reservations, which is why we end up here a lot.

One of the best pizzas in the city my favorite is the pistachio and also the brussels sprouts with the Cipollini onions ! the arancini & The fried calamari are to die for ! everything on the menu is good and prepared to order ! right at headhouse Square in Philadelphia's old city

Warm sunny weather, sitting outside, delicious lunch fare, perfecto! Watching the world go by on a warm spring afternoon along 2nd Street in Philadelphia. What a treat! Very attentive service. The pizza here is amazing as well as the gelato. We had such a lovely time.

Came here for dinner with my two young children and husband. We had the truffle pizza as the entree and the meatballs for appetizer. The meatballs were delicious as my kids devoured them. The pizza was big enough to feed my family of four. We had a bottle of wine which was also excellent. There were heat lamps outside so it was not too cold sitting outdoors. They also had nice socially distanced tables indoors if you prefer. The staff was nice. I was seated right away and food is quick. I'd definitely recommend as pizza is very kids friendly if you have small children.

Very nice place!!! We didn’t eat there, we order to pick up. We ordered the Margherita pizza, and it was super delicious. The only thing is that they make only one size for all their pizzas, 12” and is quite small.

"THE and I mean "THEEEEEEEE" best sausage pizza I've ever had!!!! Service is awesome, food is top notch in a great location!!!!

First time at the restaurant and had a great experience. We had the arancini as a starter and it's was incredible. After that we tried a couple of pizzas. Delicious crust, zesty sauce and very fresh toppings. The wood fire oven certainly makes the pizza remarkable. Informal restaurant with nice staff and a good vibe.

Excellent napolitan pizza and appetizers. Great location. Aranchinnis were great! Will definitely be back on my next trip.

Poor Marlon Brando and Street Car named desire is turning in his grave. This place is five star over-rated. I live within blocks so I have a baseline to rate this restaurant. Let’s start with the pizza. Crust: doughie, soft and limp. Taste: salt, did I say salt. Salt and more salt. Cheese: lame, no taste. There are better pizza places, much much better literally right around the corner, hint, hint. Now, lets get to the meatballs??? Coming from an Italian family, lets just say NO! To drugs...and those sorry cylindrical things. Hey Steve S you can do better.

it was as great as the first time which is awesome. we had the mushroom and the tartuffo pizzas and we still can't decide which one was the best. also had the Gelato and it was delicious. one of my favorite pizzerias.

Pizza place with really tasty, wood fired oven pizza. We sat at the pizza bar watching them make the pizza. It was fascinating. The sangria was fresh and tasty. We had a chopped salad, which had asparagus, romaine and a nice mix of ingredients. We also shared a special pizza with zukes, ricotta, and squash blossoms - yum!!! Really nice stop in Society Hill.

A fine Steven Star restaurant with great selection. Today I created my own dish , Aroncini (replaced the meatball) with spaghetti. It was great. The manarra sauce is different as a mild sauce. Not heavily spices-no garlic. The taste is is fine as are all dishes. This is becoming a regular spot for us.

Good gourmet pizza with below normal service. Pistachio pizza was one of a kind and awesome tasting. However for a pizza place they have yet to perfect their Margherita. The sauce was a bit Tangy and wayyy too cheesy. The hostess pointed at the table and told us to sit there, and proceeded to sit the people after us. Menus and waiter were no where to be found for 10 minutes. Expected better for a STARR restaurant. Not sure if I would go back.

Delicious pizza with inspired toppings are served daily here by Stephen Starr. Fresh from the brick oven enjoy a pie topped with pistachio, red onion ,rosemary, brussels sprouts with pancetta, or smoked mozzarella .Do not miss this pizzeria's offerings. Yummy

Food was great! Kitchen was beyond slow. Took 30 minutes to get any food and nearly s as n hour to get our single pizza. Server was lovely but won’t go back till they figure out how to run a kitchen

We loved the pizza we had around the Piazza dei Re di Roma in Rome, but Pizzeria Stella was better than most. The crust was sublime and the toppings excellent.

What a great day in the city. Especially with 70 degree temps in February. We sat outside and enjoyed lunch. Can't wait to go back. The olive oil gelato is amazing.

We visited Stella during my birthday weekend, (against my better judgment). I need to preface this review by saying I come from a long line of love-to-cook Italian ladies, myself being one of them. It is seriously difficult to impress me with any meal that isn't home cooked, but especially so for Italian cuisine. I've lived in the south Jersey area for 20 years (originating from Brooklyn NY), and this is truly the first time I've eaten Italian out that was truly something special. We had the chicken liver crescent pasta with sage and truffle special and it was absolutely outrageous. Do not shy away from this dish because of the liver; you won't even know it's there. We also split a marguerita pizza that looked and tasted like the fresh, thin crust pizza we had in Italy. Even the sangria was absolutely delicious (not overpoweringly sweet). The atmosphere was casual, the service attentive but not intrusive, and it was reasonably priced. I almost don't want people to find out about it!!! We'll definitely be back!!!

The setting and decor are kind of a new age gourmet/casual. The brick oven pizza tastes great, as do the pasta dishes they serve. Great if you're trying to feed a large group of people but still want something that feels upscale. They also have home made Gelato, which I regret not trying, and will have when/if I'm back.

Been here two times on different trips. Great pizzas with some creativity. Changing beer assortment. Friendly service. It's not fancy, but the atmosphere is good for both families and friends.

This was such a relaxing place with a great vibe. Modern rustic. We saw all age categories there. Many different kinds of pizzas, adequately described by the menu and waiter. Our waiter was great, he cared so much about us and the food, I would have thought he was the owner.

Three of us ate at Stella's today. Pizza was horrible. Watery tasteless sauce, mozzarella slid right off the slice with burnt bottom and crust. How could others find this pizza good? Did the chef just have a bad day?

The pizza was wonderful. They have a great selection of different types of toppings and it is nice to watch it being made in their brick oven. The service was very friendly and the pizza comes out very fast so there is nothing wrong with waiting a little bit.

First time I went they had me hooked. Great pizza and service. Vegetarian friendly, huge plus. The only disappointing thing is their alcohol selection, but for dinner, can't complain too much. Very cool location too, a lot to do after dinner.

Great pizza place that offers delicious appetizers, bountiful salads and the best wood fire pizza! Cozy bar with tasty drink specials too! Try their homemade Olive oil gelato for a special treat! We returned twice in the same week and looking forward to our next date night!

I enjoyed an delicious pizza at Stella on Friday night. We got there about 9pm or so and were seated right away. We had the Tartufo pizza which was really amazing. One of the absolute best pizzas I've had in a really long time. The pizza has black truffle, fontina cheese and a poached egg on top which the server cracks over the pizza. Drinks were also really good. I had the Rosmarino drink, not typically my kind of drink, but it was very well made and balanced. My boyfriend had the Sgroppino which was delicious. It has lemon sorbet, vodka and prosecco. I highly recommend Pizzeria Stella.

Two adults and a toddler. We split a pizza and the calamari. Everything was spot on. Alison waited on our table. She was very friendly & attentive. Really loved the decor & atmosphere. Looking forward to returning.

The food is well worth the price. I recommend the meatballs, pasta and pepperoni pizza. The meatball sauce is to die for! My boyfriend and I have been here a bunch of times and have never had any issues... the food is ALWAYS consistent.

This was my second time in Stella and again the pizza was fantastic. A bit to salty but my understanding is that Americans love pizzas in this way. Great location, choice of food and drinks and personnel very kindly.

Roasted Beets & Burrata ($16) - really enjoyed this. Would get it again. The walnut-honey vinaigrette went well to drip with the pizza crust or other bread. Whipped Ricotta ($14) was a bit disappointed by this. Not much taste. Bread was a bit tough. Rigatoni Alla Vodka ($18) enjoyed this. Mushroom ($19) really liked this! Crowd favorite. Would get this every time I'm here.

This place is highly rated, however, I prefer pizza with great tasting bread and more of it while Stella's serves thin crust only. As you can see from the pictures posted by others, apparently a burnt crust is standard as both our pizza and the table next to ours had burnt crust which is very apparent in the taste. Although the draft beer was good, I have no reason to return here again as there are too many other pizza places in Philly worth trying.

What a fantastic lunch. We had a Lamb and Sausage Pizza for lunch. We had the salted caramel Gelato for dessert, it is to die for. Adam was our server and was out standing. We had a wonderful experience.

My wife and I moved to Texas three years ago and every time we come to PA, we visit Pizzeria Stella. We had one of our first dates here not long after the restaurant opened and have always enjoyed the service and food. Yesterday, we had our old favorites the Tartufo for me and Margahrita for her. It is possible that they were even better than we each remembered.

A day out with friends was incredibly amazing due to the amazing cuisine at Pizzeria Stella. Not only was the staff welcoming, but they were extremely accommodating to all of our needs throughout our lunch. I ordered the marinara pizza (my favorite) and it was delicious. The fresh sauce and garlic were outstanding because they were complimented by a warm, thin crust. If you are ever looking for a great place to eat a nice lunch in Philly, look no further!

I steered our lunch here because I was craving a sorbet cocktail in the unreasonable unseasonable unbareable mayday heat! Much to my chagrin I was served a melted pile glass of lemon sorbet vodka and Prosecco. Maybe the bartender was offended by my request for Tito’s rather than Smirnoff? Sorry for respecting myself… the kicker is that the waitress told me that that’s how they’ve been making em lately… ive been here dozens of times(proximity is a mf’er) and that is not the truth. I should’ve been in for a brain freeze. If it’s been taken of the bill and I’m only charged for my dirty martini I will change the rating but as of now I must speak my truth!!

Superb Pizza, friendly, and very attentive, staff plus a great buzzing atmosphere! Really enjoyed our entire experience here. Highly recommended.

Found this gem on Friday evening. Service was great. Food arrived quickly. When we travel and try new pizza spots we go for specialty cheese pizza as it’s a bit easier to compare with other restaurants. Pizzeria Stella was a home run! One of the best pizzas we’ve ever had. We highly recommended Pizzeria Stella if you’re in the Old City Area.

Great pizza. I recommend the sausage. The only negative was the size of the soft drink glasses. However they did not charge for my refill.

It's not really a threat, but it's really good. Open all the time. Good value. Is it the best? You could argue it is. Certainly one of the best in the city.

Just came back from having lunch at Stella's. The wonderful thing about Stella is that one is never disappointed by the food. I always order the daily specials because oftentimes the garnishes are seasonal, and secondily one never knows when it would be available again. The wood burning clay oven is at 850 degrees F and within 90 seconds the pizza is cooked. Something that is hard to replicate at home. The only drawback is that when it is crowded, the notice level is quite high. This is accentuated by the music which oftentimes is quite high. I recommend either sitting outside or going off hours to avoid this. If it weren't for the noise level I would give it 5 stars.

Sunday afternoon no reservation , seated and served in minutes. Shared a pizza with nduja ( southern Italy typical sausage ) very good and tasty, crust cooked to perfection. Spaghetti overdressed but doubtless good quality. Gelato is highly recommended , small portion but so good. Overall food quality is good but a bit overpriced

It is a lovely restaurant with very friendly, attentive staff. The pizzas are delicious. I particularly liked the tomato sauce. The pizza base was cooked perfectly. We had fried doughnuts which were also lovely.

Was in Philly for a festival over the weekend. Found this hidden gem off of South Street. Ordered calamari and a pepperoni pizza. The calamari was EXCELLENT. Lightly breaded and fried to perfection! The pizza was even better. Crust was super thin and the sauce was very flavorful. They didn't skimp on the pepperoni. When I come back to the area, I definitely would eat here again.

We stopped here after visiting the area. Went based on TA reviews. It was 5pm so they weren't busy. We were seated promptly. Server was nice and food came quickly. We all got Pizza and it was good. If we are in the area we will be back.

We visited after having eaten at several of their other restaurants and we weren't disappointed! Pizza was terrific... wood fired and very good! We'll definitely be back in the future.

Pizza is one of my favorire foods and Steve Starr one of my favorite restaurateurs in Philadelphia. So none of the two disappointed me. The pizza here is excelent as well as both the appetizers we tried. Friendly and quick service complimented the whole faboulous experience.

we enjoyed the food, the pizza was excellent. Worth going to it was not too expense and the atmosphere was good.

Our waiter was inexperienced and our pizza was soggy to the point we had to eat it with a fork and spoon. Our leftovers were sent in a full sized pizza box rather than a traditional leftover box which made carrying it around the city and then the bus a pain. I would not go back. Way too expensive for what it is. The restaurant itself looks nice.

One size pizza. Not much sauce, cheese, or toppings on it. Atmosphere and tables not very comfortable, welcoming, or cheery. Expensive for what you get.

Super delicious pizza from a wood burning oven. My son got pasta and said it was the best he had ever had. Great atmosphere for a family dinner.

The pizza is divine; light, thin crust with very tasty topping options. We especially loved the prosciutto, mozzarella and arugula pie. We also had the meatball appetizer as well as the risotto ball app. Both delicious. We tried the pasta-- lamb bolognese was delicious; the gnocchi was heavenly-- very soft and delicious (the half portion of the gnocchi is much smaller than the lamb-- FYI) then gelato-- very nice. Would come back again.

May be the best Gnocchi's I have ever had. Great service and well informed. A little pricey but worth it.

We had a large group go for dinner and everything was fantastic. Pizza was great! I have wanted to try Arancini for a long time and this was included in the selections for dinner. I loved it

Really enjoyed the atmosphere, really good food and all for a good price. Top marks all round from the whole family.

Great time always ! The food is wonderful and the staff make every visit welcoming ! We look forward to a weekly visit !

We ate at Stelle Pizzeria for dinner. The service was attentive and the food was good but it was so loud that I assume the servers are hoarse every night from shouting to all their customers. We had a salad, a cured meats antipasti, pepperoni pizza, and gelato. Of course the brick oven pizza had a flavorful crust and pepperoni had crisp crunchy edges, both of which I adore. The center of the pizza was a bit soggy though, which is a failing of thin crust brick oven pizzas as far as I can tell. I only gave Stelle four stars due to the volume, I just can't enjoy a place fully if I have to yell to have my husband hear me from across the table.

We just had the most pillowy ricotta gnocchi’s in a brown butter sauce that melted in our mouth. Calamari with peppers were cooked perfectly and so tender. Sausage pizza drizzled with pesto had a airy dough with charred crust. Pepperoni pizza was also tasty. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather while we could hear guitar music in the distance. What a lovely lunch at Pizzeria Stella!

Being a spoiled New Yorker with Pizza it is nice when I travel to Philly to find a nice pizza place. Had a very nice simple basil and mozzarella thin crust pie. Started with a nice salad, service is very good and the bill is affordable.

Stella occupies a beautiful corner space in downtown Philadelphia. The room is a warm, friendly place in a neighborhood with parking and pedestrians. The menu features about a dozen pies, salads and apps. Everything is good and they use their central wood fired oven for many dishes. The star of the show is their pizza that is a thin crust variety with a dough that has decent flavor. There are numerous toppings, all good with good sauce and cheese, $15-20. This is a simple place with a good approach to producing a well crafted product. Lunch is best for avoiding the crowds but anytime is right for a good slice. chef

Big group rocked up with no reservation and jet lag - they sorted a table whilst we had a drink. Pizzas were excellent (although some found the pepperoni a title salty... what do they know). Shame we're only here for three days or we'd be back!

This was one of the best. Nicely charred crust and the sausage and pesto had a nice kick. Had the special heirloom salad with really really good ricotta and herbs. In a word - delightful.

while on a Christmas visit to Old Philly, heard nice things about this place so we had to try it.....pleasantly surprised....friendly waitstaff....nice menu....not your typical tomato sauce , cheese pizzas.....heard about this Brussel sprout, pancetta, onion, smoked mozz. pizza so we had to try it...it was outstanding......place is a little pricey, but it is not you run of the mill pizza joint.....great root beer also....

Just off South Street is Stella's. Thin crust pizza heaven. Family friendly with fair prices. Cost allows you to try two or three pizzas.

The last time I was in Philadelphia (2019), we stumbled upon this restaurant for lunch, and the pizza was incredible. So it was the first place I thought of when planning my dinner this trip. It did not disappoint. We ordered a mix of pizzas and pastas for the table, and everything was great. I especially enjoyed the rigatoni alla vodka. Service was outstanding and the whole restaurant smells amazing when you walk in. I want to go back again tomorrow.

Every time I go into Philly, I always make Stella a lunch or dinner option. The staff is friendly, attentive, and helpful. Try the marinara pizza, its the world's best. The thin crust and zesty sauce is wonderful. The pizza is loaded with fresh garlic and is amazing! I recommend this restaurant to anyone in Philly!

If you like authentic style Italian pizza, then and only then should you give it a try! Pizza being such an old cuisine, has taken many adaptive forms across countries. The authentic wood stove pizza is an acquired taste. I found it very average. Too crowded and loud for a saturday evening, dirty toilet and piles of junk boxes lying at the entrance of the toilet, which happened to be right in front of our table.

Good food friendly atmosphere. (Friendly in Philadelphia? YES!) Mainly pizza. Great Pizza. Would be good if more pasta diashes were offered.

Wood fired pizza made right up front. We had a couple of pizzas and beers. Nice corner restaurant in a fun part of town.

We visit Philadelphia often to visit family. Being within walking distance from Stella, we often get pizza to go from there The service is quick (ready in 15 minutes) and the varieties of pizza amazing. They are all delicious. My fav is pistachio. Recommend highly!

Great bartenders, appetizers and pizza! I had a great meal experience at Pizzeria Stella and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality American style Italian meal.

We did not get the tartuffo this time, but the four cheese, a pasta dish special and a really nice salad. All three dishes were solid.

Great neighborhood, good service and fantastic pizza, what more could you want. We sat outside on a beautiful day, which always helps, and ate pizza till we couldn't eat more. We wanted to stop but it was sooo good. Glad their not near home or I would be even larger than I already am.

I was in Philadelphia for a business trip, which meant I was eating alone. I'm not ashamed to admit I consumed a full pizza and an appetizer of arancini. The delicious food was served in a warm atmosphere with friendly service.

This actually might have been 5 had it not been for COVID and take out. I tried a slice of someone else’s pepperoni (omg, love the kind of pepperoni that curls up!) and got my own “pistachio “... the pesto is quite wonderful and even eating it as take out pizza, the red onion didn’t become overwhelming. Love the wood oven browning (as someone previously noted, those brown spots.... that’s what makes it amazing!). It does deflate a bit with takeout, not their fault, thanks COVID, just be aware that some flavor and height may be lost.

Located in the Society Hill section of Philadelphia, this small, popular pizza place serves thin, crispy, hot, 12-inch pies prepared in a 900 degree brick oven. We were able to sit outside even though it was February since there was a warm snap in the mild winter time. We ordered from the simple wine selections (served in short glasses-Italian style) and enjoyed an order of various olives in light olive oil and spices. We followed this with a fantastic, crispy white pizza with fresh baby spinach, sliced roasted tomatoes, pine nuts, and mozzarella cheese. Definitely worth the wait!

This might be the best pepperoni pizza we've ever had. The pepperoni are sliced in house daily! The mozzarella is delicious on the pizza and it's just a cute little restaurant. Great service and I can see why this is one of the best pizza shops in Philly.

Tipped off by friends, we were looking to escape Center City's craziness. 8 minute cab ride away, we walked in and grabbed three seats at the bar, so no wait. Small menu but lots of tasty choices. Specialty pizzas were good, classic margherita was drippy and not great. Special chicken liver ragu with fresh mezzalunna pasta was outstanding.

Spacious restaurant with many incredibly tasty options. We tried 4 different pizzas..each equally good. Appetizers were octopus and the broccoli rabe and they did not disappoint.

We decided to try it out after having read a few reviews and were not disapponted. The place has ample seating inside and a number of sidewalk tables. We ordered a margherita and a vegetarian pizzas; the crust was thin, it was well-cooked and the ingredients were top just as any true neapolitan pizza should be. Service was attentive and prices are reasonable.

We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon after walking around the Farmers Market. Had the pepperoni pizza and it was very tasty! Wood fired and thin crusted. The pizza tasted very fresh! They also had a 13 vegetable salad I wanted to try as well. The staff was very nice and had great suggestions for getting around town. Very close to Penn's Landing. We love the Society Hill area and this place is one of the reasons why!

Good service and food. We tried 3 of the pizzas, all were very good; thin crusts and abundant toppings. We also had the prawn special which was very good in a nice marinate. The watermelon mint sangria was an interesting twist and enjoyable as was the Summer draft, flying fish IPA. Note: the bathrooms were very clean.

Had some time to kill and decided to stop for a small bite and some drinks before our later reservations with the rest of our party. The drinks were good and the small pizza was enough to share as an appetizer to not over stuff ourselves. It was freshly made and delicious. Our quick visit was made even more pleasant by our attentive waiter 'Adam"! Nice fine.

Went to Pizzeria Stella sunday....What a nice surprise. Easy to find and parking was across the street. The restaurant looks like a renovatated body shop with 20ft ceilings and the original brick walls inside. Pizza was awesome however the meatballs stole the show. Fresh never frozen ground veal, pork and beef rolled into medium sized ball of true italian authenticity then perfectly seasoned and roasted in house made marina sauce. Hate to say it but better then mama use to make and the best Ive had anywhere. Calamari was outstanding, crisp, tender and melt in your mouth Had a few bottles of Italian wine and enjoyed fast friendly service.. Great value and nice portions Will so be back Thanks Conner

After living in Naples, true Neapolitan pizza is my standard. I love pizza. I've been living in Missippi for over a year. Domino's is the high point. While visiting Philly, we were so impressed, we ate here twice. The margherita is fabulous (my husband thinks it needs a bit more oil), but the special--burrata with olives and roasted garlic, was incredible. The arancini are delicious, but the star of both nights was the grilled octopus appetizer, specifically the salad under the octopus!!! They make a phenomenal preserved lemon vinaigrette.

I had always seen the restaurants near the farmer’s market in Society Hill, and so we finally decided to give one a try. At Pizzeria Stella we started with the generous appetizer of olives and almonds. We split a margherita pizza (super fresh red sauce!). And finished with a cappuccino and hazelnut gelato. All were DELISH! Will definitely come back here again.

We had lunch on an unusually warm Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was full and windows were open - there were even a few tables seated outside. We sat at the counter to avoid a wait, and watched the preparation of the pizzas. Our service was prompt and the food came up quickly. I was adventurous and chose Calabrian Sausage, crushed red pepper and smoked mozzarella. My companion chose margherita. We were both very pleased with rich flavors. We left stuffed. The personal pizzas are just a little too big for one, but we had an afternoon and evening of events and couldn't take it with is - and we certainly weren't leaving any behind. We skipped dinner to compensate! We will definitely be back.

Visited pizzeria Stella tonight and truly enjoyed our meal. Great service and food. A must stop when in Philly.

We have eaten in and had food to go from here. The pizza, pasta, and salads are all excellent. My favorite is the pistachio pizza! The meat ball are superb also. Service is fast and food to go is ready in 10 Minutes! Great place to eat in or get food to go from!

Large ding room, pleasant staff Italian flavor with a pizza oven within it. Unfortunately my pistachio gelato was much too sweet completely overpowering the pistachio flavor

We found this spot during a recent visit to Philadelphia. It was a quick walk from our hotel (Hilton, Penns Landing) and we loved the walk, no wait time (at 7:30 on a Wednesday), quick, knowledgable server and fast service (especially nice with hungry kids in tow). We ordered a fab chopped salad, and 3 pizzas. The leek special was our favorite, but all hit the spot and were just delicious.

The pizza was outstanding, 12" personal pizzas that the 7 of us shared. The sausage and pepperoni (penny sized slices) were great. The truffle and the mushroom were also very good. They have a good craft beer menu too. The big problem was that we were told it was a 40 minute wait, which became 1 hour and 15 minutes... very aggravating, especially as we told them that we only had a short time frame.

I ordered the special pizza with pepperoni at lunch (the restaurant was not crowded at all) and was told I couldn't have pepperoni because "the chef doesn't allow modifications to special pizza's"... really??? Certainly taking 5 seconds to add already sliced pepperoni to a pizza in an non-busy time would not slow down the flow of the kitchen...so I am not sure if the goal here is to create publicity or if this is just a high strung personality pizza chef. What I am sure of is that "customer satisfaction" was not their goal. I actually took pepperoni off our other pizza and put it on the special, but didn't take a photo because I wouldn't want to upset the chef. If you think it is ok for the chef to decide what topping you get on your pizza, do come here as the pizza is delicious. But if you want to decide your pizza toppings instead of the chef, go to any other pizza restaurant in America

My boyfriend and I visited this place a couple months ago as it had been on my list of restaurants I wanted to go to and we happened to be in the area for a concert. We stopped here and had a great dinner. The pizza we had was amazing and I would definitely come back. I do wish they had a better alcohol menu as it was very limited.

I had the ‘Ndjua pizza. By far the best pizza I’ve had in a long time. My coworkers ordered the Mushroom and another I wish I could remember. They weren’t quite as delicious as the ‘Ndjua, but still really good. Great atmosphere. Friendly and attentive service. And priced very reasonably. Next time in Philly, I’ll go back.
Best pizza and gelato since visiting Italy
I've had some good pizza in my life, but nothing ever beat the excellent pizza I once had in Italy...until today! Who knew that a simple Margarita Pizza could be so delicious. The doe so crispy and light, the tomato sauce so tasty, the buffalo mozzarella so heavenly, the basil so fresh. I can't recommend Pizzeria Stella enough! We also ordered the grilled octopus as an appetizer which made a perfect starter and had a yummy mimosa (with freshly squeezed orange juice!). For dessert, we enjoyed three different types of gelato. The double chocolate gelato was out of this world, and the olive oil and berry and mint gelatos were also absolutely delicious. An all around amazing lunch. Wow!
