Convenient and Delicious

By Nicole D |

I'm a local, so we frequent Playa Provisions at least once a week. We have tried a variety of items on the menu, but our favorites are definitely the BLTA and the Toasted Pretzel Croissant Sandwich. Also, their pastries and cookies are insane and amazing -- everything is super tasty, try the peanut butter cookie, with real peanut butter somehow stuffed into it! Some of the items on their menu are a bit pricey, but in my opinion, the food is definitely worth it. The ingredients feel fresh and the quality is impressive. Recently we tried their popsicles. They have a wide variety with such a unique selection. I tried a coffee one, and my husband tried a blackberry one, for $3 each, they were worth the price, and something different to try other than plain ice cream. They also have been amazing at following all the CDC guidelines during Covid. Keeping markers on the floors, tables apart, and hand sanitizer available.

Huge Portions

By Gailyn63 |

We came here at the recommendation of a friend and weren't disappointed. We started with the fried calamari, Rick shrimp and clams, which had jalapeño peppers and a spicy sauce. Excellent. We ordered the jalapeño ciabatta, laden in butter but delicious. Our mains, the Hawaiian ono and pork shoulder, were slightly overcooked, but nonetheless tasty. We brought our own bottle and paid $15 corkage, but there were excellent wines in the list at reasonable prices, including a 2010 Damilano and a 2012 Oregon Pinot. Service was excellent. The bill was $100 before tip. How do you spell bargain?

Brooke delivers as expected

By Joel T |

Finally was able to stop at Playa Provisions for a quick lunch. I grabbed a grab and go chicken bacon salad sandwich, chocolate chip cookie and a cold brew cup of coffee. Everything was above my expectations. The sandwich tasted so fresh and delicious. It felt like all the ingredients were fresh from farm to table. The sandwich was balanced so well and had such great flavor, I loved how I could taste every ingredient in it. The cookie was fresh baked and tasted so good. The coffee was great too, very rich and bold flavor. I will be back soon. Thanks Brooke for the awesome lunch experience.

Good Menu with Unexpected Quality

By hakccmd |

A lively place off the beaten path with great bar scene and above average comfort food. A great place for informal business gatherings in the evening.

Incredible food and service!

By Lora R |

The most amazing food! We had oysters on the half shell and shared a bagel for brunch. So fresh and tasty! Nice variety of cocktails, wine and beer. The layout is strange but once you get in, it's worth it!

A great place for brunch

By John D |

Our granddaughter goes to Loyola Maremont University, and she made reservations at this restaurant near the beach. We loved it. The biscuit bites were a great starter. My wife and I had the best chilaquiles ever. Service was excellent. The surroundings were interesting. A great place for brunch.

Wow!

By blubs99 |

Just met an associate for lunch and we both had the Tuna Melt sandwich. Not only one of the best Tuna sandwiches I ever ate, it was one of the best sandwiches I ever ate. I can't comment on any other dishes but can't want to go back. Probably I will just order the Tuna Melt again.

Time off @beach close by the airport

By Silke S |

You are a business traveler and seek for a place to dine close by the airport? And a small walk at he beach? And nice food close by? Her you go. We had such a nice walk and dinner and happy hour although we only had 90 min. I definitely come back, it felt like a small vacation in a packed business trip. Wonderful. And we got back to the airport very relaxed.

Off putting...

By Lonesailor48 |

First time in this very trendy but noisy restaurant. Menu selection was fair and the food quality just OK. What was particularly off putting was the manager who came to our table after we finished the meal. Instead of asking whether or not we enjoyed our dinner or asking us if everything met our expectations he announced that the next reservation would be coming in 15 minutes. I gave him a sarcastic response to the effect that "greasing our palms"might move us along faster. Obviously he didn't take the hint that we didn't want to be rushed because 15 minutes later he was back telling us the next reservation for this table had arrived. It's been my experience that fine establishments, when faced with these circumstances, invites the table's occupants to the bar for a drink....not hustles the customers out the door. That attitude is unprofessional and points to a lack of social skills.

Friendly service, great vibe

By MaureenJK |

The food we had was yummy, nice selection of drinks too, and the service was great. Loved the vibe of the place. I'd definitely come back!

Breakfast

By IRONMANCHEF |

We have breakfast today and it was so good, this is a very nice, chic, trendy place, nice decor. My and my wife enjoy our time together

I want to like this place.....

By DBronchick |

I really do, I'm not sure why but I just do. Been trying to get there for dinner since the recent opening and finally got around to it about 10 days ago. We sat on the semi-enclosed deck and found the atmosphere to be very inviting. The menu is ok, I didn't find a ton of things I like but maybe that's me. When the food did arrive (slowly) it was just average. The drinks were good but that may be due to the fact that I was about to leave out of LAX on an exciting adventure!! Love the quiet beach vibe of Playa Del Rey....I may go back and revisit? I suggest a visit to the Whiskey Bar in back, service and drinks there were great.

A great place to chill near LAX

By Bend R |

Had 4 hours to burn after landing at LAX. Looked up and found Playa Provisions. Drove there easily in 15min and did not believe how plenty parking was. Had to double check with the staff to believe. First impression was a deli, but then to find out a full menu (I ordered a Lobster Roll) and an expansive sitting arrangement: indoor, outdoor with fire pit, etc. Plus, Free WiFi for those working on laptops. And, they have a cool bar with awesome top shelf supplies!! When done, asked if we could leave our car there to check out the beach, “no problems!” was the reply. And the beach was literally steps away. Highly recommend this place.

Location helps, but the food and presentation don't.

By Steven D |

The location is really great - just off the beach In Playa Del Rey, but like so many beachfront restaurants, the food makes it not worth going. First of all, it is very expensive; the seafood tier was something like $100 and they do have a "double size", which, thank goodness we didn't order. There was not enough ice to make it look good. The oysters were VERY salty and the sauces and mignonette it comes with were also salty and yet flavorless. There were very few items on the tiers, so few that they would be better served presenting it on 1 tray, not 3. The shrimp were tasteless and salty as well. One friend got the Louis Salad, and he couldn't and didn't even eat it, the lettuce was so tough, it was more like the texture of uncooked kale. The server never even inquired why it was barely touched and not eaten. We also had the Calamari and the sauces they came with were salty and bland. There were seven of us and all have worked in restaurants before so I do not review places negatively very easily, but this left us all wondering how they can stay in business, except they do have the location working in their favor...for now. I was shocked to learn that the owner won Top Chef, but I have to assume they were not there on Saturday. It was well over $100/per person for our group and sadly not worth the money. Cute market in the entry and good location, they just need to work on the food, ingredients and presentation. I don't think we will go back to see if they have succeeded in doing this, but wish them luck.

Nice find

By gardengal16 |

A couple blocks from our inn, Playa is the new kid on the block and we had a really nice dining experience. The room is large, open and inviting and was very busy on a Wed. night. My son's crisp wedge salad was amazing with large pieces of crunchy bacon and a lovely swoon of cheese dressing. Unique kale pesto with the perfectly grilled salmon was top notch and the seafood Louis salad, a picture to see and delicious. Fries also excellent a rare compliment from me. Our server stayed on top of things but seemed very very rushed and distracted. He certainly had no time for a word of conversation other than the order taking and glass refilling but those are his main duties so... The noise level is higher than we enjoy but we did manage to have a conversation so not as bad as some places. Overall I would love to live closer and try more menu items. A really needed addition to this street!

fun atmosphere

By jllowrey |

the service is always good, but the food is hit or miss. i've been a couple of times and not sure if i'll be back any time soon. but the service is always top notch.

Great food

By MTorre |

A very nice place, wood terrace and fireplace. Food is good, ingredients fresh and a very original menu.

A smile is a lot to ask for

By Lisa D |

My friend and I sought this place out on a recommend. I was expecting the same friendly behavior as Hudson House, major fail. The hostess was bratty at best and told us to order at the counter for brunch, it was late, fair enough. When we made it to the register Francessca gave us the most unfriendly Non helpful behavior. She did not want to let us look at a brunch menu because it was over at 3.(it was 2:44) ok sweety you are a manager, that is how you want your employees to treat guests? The food is priced high so giving great service seduces me into coming back. You aren't great enough to treat people like you are doing them a favor in taking their money. Sand dab sandwich was dryish, lobster roll good. Ginger beer yummy!

They have Pappy Van Winkle!

By artholt494 |

This is an excellent restaurant with terrific food. The food was so good we went there two times in three days as we visited Playa del Rey. And the bar has a great whiskey selection including the elusive Pappy Van Winkle bourbon.

Disaster...

By berniek1949 |

I should have read the reviews befor going here, but it is a new place in the neighborhood we wanted to try it out. We made reservations, but when we arrived we heard the dreaded words " we're getting your table ready now". There were six of us and they tried to put as at a table for four. We declined and they wound up giving us a booth for four and adding two chairs at the end of the booth. The noise was horrible. People had to shout to hear each other. I could not hear the person sitting furthest away from me in our booth. We received our our torn and stained menus and began reading what seemed like some interesting items. The waitress was nice and took our food and drink orders. Despite the noise, we tried to make the best of it. We received our drinks and appetizers in a timely manner and then we waited and waited and waited for our entrees. Finally, after 30 or 40 minutes and many complaints to our waitress and manager we received the disappointing entrees. The best tasting food was the fried sand dabs and the fried zucchini, not what you would expect at a trendy restaurant with exotic items on its menu. The exotic items turned out to be bland. Bottom line: don't waste your time or money. There are so many other choices in our area, that there is no reason to go to this loud, overpriced mediocre restaurant.

Tucked away in PDR

By James Wenger |

Great spot in PDR for good drinks and food with friends. Hung by the fire pit and enjoyed some plates with friends. Had the tartar, chicken skin, Brussels, cauliflower, and the crab mac n cheese. All I would recommend. Plus, there's a whiskey bar in the back (plus other different little counters full of other goodness)! Will definitely find myself coming back.

Food was delicious

By Alexandra T |

I had to change seats during dinner because the setting sun was shining in my eyes. They did not have a shade for the window even though the sun sets EVERY day. The food was delicious and the service was good. Way overpriced!

OK but not great

By buffalojim67 |

Playa Provisions is an acceptable spot for some food while you are visitine Playa del Rey and the beach. Their menu is quirky and the food is OK but not great.

Perfect low-key beach-side restaurant

By am1NYLA |

I love Playa Provisions because its the perfect beach-side restaurant in a city where there are really not that many beach-side restaurants. It has a low-key and relaxed vibe during the week (lunch is order at the counter then sit where you want), and then it gets very on the weekends with full service lunch when reservations are essential. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the hosts and servers are nice (not snooty ever). I haven't been there for dinner yet, but look forward to going soon. My only recommendation is that they should offer side dishes at lunch -- I would order more food if I could!

Not going back!

By Doug M |

After telling us they only had 5:45 reservations, there were a LOT of empty tables the entire time we were there - which was 2.5 hours for the following reason. They lost our dinner order and never recuperated. The took our leftovers and didn’t wrap them up for us.

Bike to lunch

By Andyfreeman4 |

Excellent lunch - rode bikes from manhattan beach - breakfast sandwich is the best! Excellent time for my family

yum

By Family P |

If you are in this neck of a woods and get hungry, please stop by. I have only been here for lunch so I only know about that. They have A VERY delicious fish sandwich (sand dap). It was soooo good. The place is modern with several different seating areas. We sat in a small, but super cute enclosed courtyard with blue picnic tables and a fireplace. There are some communal tables in the main lobby and then there is the evening restaurant side that they sometimes open for you to sit for lunch too. It has outdoor patio that has a fire pit for dinner time. There is a whisky bar adjacent but this wasn't "that kind of a lunch"...hah. We had good coffee and home made ice-cream and my home made peanut butter cookie. Go and check out!

Mediocre seafood... nice ambiance

By BeachMax |

Kind of disappointing... $65 for the Alaskan King Crab - and nothing special in terms of taste. Had King Crab last week in Key Largo for $50 per pound and it was much, much better - fresher etc. The corn side was also bland - zero taste - but smothered in some sort of brown sauce. The sides we ordered separately were better - Cauliflower and Brussel Sprouts. Drinks were solid. Service was actually quite good. The best thing about the restaurant is the location (very close to the beach) and general atmosphere. Don't think I'd go back at these prices - no upside. Cheap value parking - $2 in there lot.

Great first visit to Playa Provisions

By TravelGalBT |

This was our first visit to Playa Provisions - - - it was a little disappointing that we had requested an outdoor table yet were seated inside (even though there was plenty of room outside) but our server was excellent and funny and we really enjoyed our meal anyway. For appetizers the pretzel bites and the shrimp balls were our favorite. The deviled chicken skin tasted good but the texture was off-putting (gooey). The seafood louis salad was an excellent healthy entree but the salmon and fish and chips were enjoyed also. All ingredients were fresh and prepared as requested. Side items were excellent - charred cauliflower and the mac & cheese being by far our favorites. Cocktails were strong and tended towards the polynesian (Mai Tai anyone) - they were perfectly prepared and came "dressed" with fruit. Atmosphere was good but it was sort of dark - - our table wobbled which was irritating but all else was on point. Excellent meal and lots of fun - we will be back for sure.

Wanted to try a new dog friendly spot in the neighborhood

By Judith A |

Finding one of the cafes in this complex is open to doggies was a plus so we ventured her for Sunday breakfast. Coffee was OK and limited options( looking for croissants and there were none). Banana bred good and pretzel OK. The kicker was a $3 valet parking fee for a cup of coffee and a pastry. Won't go back again and return to our favs on the westside where there is better Java, a free parking lot ad delicious variety o croissant.

Good for All!

By CinTravels |

Great place! You can swing by for breakfast or a coffee and sit on the communal table. You can swing by for gelato. You can have brunch and a bloody mary. You can go to the back in the whiskey room. This place great for the whole family. The servers are good. the food is great. I recommend oysters and the louis salad with a bloody mary.

Enjoyable!

By stephiew08 |

Ate at Playa Provisions for brunch. I ordered the breakfast sandwich, which was delicious. I shared this with my husband because we also wanted to try some of the yummy looking baked goods. We had the cinnamon bun, chocolate chip cookie and the peanut butter cookie. All very good and enjoyable. We will definitely eat here again when back in LA.

Good Service

By RebeccaN1 |

We ate here because it seemed to be healthy and good reviews. We are vegans so had the beet salad and was delicious. The closest to vegan was the salmon so tried it and was fresh. Very close to the beach!

Beachfront delicious

By ABruceDublin_Ireland |

A friend who had heard great stories about this beachside venue made reservations for our party of four for brunch on a lovely Spring Saturday. Seriously cool decor and ambience matched by impeccable and attentive service. This is a café, shop, deli, venue that takes itself seriously. Cooking is inventive, flavorsome and even adventurous. Emphasis is on organic and fresh. Dishes were tasty and beautifully presented (mine was crab eggs benedict). Nice music from a jazz combo and general atmosphere of weekend chic. Excellent restaurant where one just wants to linger all afternoon. But the beach beckons. A real treat in Los Angeles, to be visited again!

It's just too pricey for the quality

By berniek1949 |

I returned to Playa Provisions at the urging of a freind. I did not like this place at all the first time and slammed it badly. So I'm not going to slam it this time, but I do have to say it isn't worth the price of a meal. The food is just OK, but for the amount that they charge, I would expect something really good. Tried 3 different appetizers, 4 different entree's. Everything was just ok. Nothing to get me to go back and try again. There is no ambiance, it's just an overpriced coffee shop trying to pass off as an expensive gourmet restaurant. It's not! Third time will not be the charm, because I'm not going back. There are much better places in the area that offer really good meals.

Grad dinner

By LNHOOT |

We had 10 people for a grad dinner. We sat out on the left side outside when you come in and glad we did. It was much quieter than inside!! We ate almost everything! The service was very good. We had halibut, fish tacos, salads, oyster platters, pretzels, chowder, crab Mac and cheese, chocolate chip cookies and butterscotch pudding. No complaint at the table!

This is the SPOT

By jmkramer |

Pack up for a day at the beach and you can come back here throughout the day for a fantastic "food crawl" at one of the 4 food choices. Grab breakfast sandwiches and coffee early, grab ice cream later, lunch, then happy hour and dinner! Very welcoming, GREAT FOOD , Great Drinks. Honestly , you'll want to set up shop on a weekly basis here.

the noise level is deafening that you would be wise to get take out

By Irvinggetthecar |

New restaurant. One staff member says no reservations the other says yes. I think they worked that out. We waited 45 mins to be seated. The noise level was horrible that I would not ever eat here again. impossible to have a conversation across the table. Children screaming on the top of their lungs at 8pm, parents not able to control them, It is not even possible to hear what the server has to say. Our food was good. We ate as fast as we could to get out. This is the most unpleasant restaurant design that one could have created. Fine food is not served next to a bar with TV on and people screaming on the top of their lungs to communicate while you are trying to enjoy excellent food.

Wonderful Wedding Reception

By artistJoan |

My nephew and his bride had their wedding reception at Playa Provisions. The back bar room had been rented. We were served delicious appetizers (dates in prociutto, zucchini bites, and tiny biscuits with dulce de leche. I had the chicken which was an enormous, delicious portion. I also tasted the braised beef ribs. They had an ice cream bar rather than a wedding cake and the home made ice cream was great...the cookies too.

Good service and good food

By bgillat |

We enjoyed very much a family dinner with our grandkids. The food was delicious and the service very fast and efficient. Highly recommended.

Something for Everyone

By Redhead1566 |

From a milkshake to a beautiful dinner by the sea, this place has it all (including a few too many hipsters). There's a "hidden" wine bar in the back for some quiet or an outdoor bar to chill and chat.

Excellent food, attentive service!

By cosmotron |

After a nice sunset walk on the beach, we stopped here for dinner. The place was packed on a Thursday evening but we seemed to have gotten the last table. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs - which is what we realized when our order came out. The fish and chips were yummy (love the crunch of that batter, not to mention the fish itself); the grilled fish tacos were fine (good but not the best I'd ever had); the tostones were tasty; and the crab mac 'n cheese was out of control! Let's just say, I had leftovers the next night and saw how much butter was in that dish...No wonder it was so decadent and delicious! Staff were attentive, from the person who greeted us, to our server, and the various other support staff who refilled our drinks, etc. Yes, the noise level was high but since it was just the two of us, we heard each other. We quite enjoyed our dinner and time there, which I'm happy about since I'm in that area and still had not tried it due to mixed reviews. Glad I finally went - I'd go back :)

Shabby Chic by the Beach

By PirulinaBaby |

Beautiful setting just steps to beach, with breathtaking sunset views. Food was delicious, if a bit trendy. Decor was upscale beachy with wooden tables, fire pits, and a casual yet elegant vibe that was very shabby chic. My favorite was the cauliflower entree. Just this exotic mix of creaminess and bite. Yummy! Attentive servers, and beautifully presented dishes. My only disappointment was my wine. My own fault, as I asked for a chardonnay without checking. I assumed the house wine would be good...instead it was just okay. Next time, I will study the wine list!

Trendy bar food

By 100CountriesNow |

This is a relatively new restaurant in Playa del Ray. It's spacious, with an outdoor seating area complete with a fire place (unusual for LA, to say the least) and is both informal and trendy at the same time. I walked here with some friends from their nearby home so there wouldn't be need for a designated driver. While there were several main courses, we decided to focus on the starters since we were seated at the bar. We had a mix of things, ranging from squash balls, oysters and crab, to fried chicken and zuchini fries. One of us even ordered milk and cookies for dessert. The food was good. Some of the things we had were slightly heavy since they were deep fried, but the fried chicken was soft and excellent. I think our meal was definitely made tastier by the jovial ambiance of the restaurant and good company. The bill came to $175 for 3, and this could have perhaps been better spent elsewhere, but I have no regrets about spending it here.

Delicious food - great for groups

By ParisTraveler2o18 |

We took a group of 12 and the food came out quickly and was delicious.Had the lobster roll and roasted cauliflower, bourbon milk and cookies. Great service, good atmosphere.

Brunch is Served

By kimberly g |

Playa Provisions is a unique four-in-one concept restaurant offering all day ice cream service, a whiskey bar, coffee/counter service and a full service restaurant with a bar. We went on two separate occasions over the span of one weekend. We had ice cream on one visit and sat in the courtyard (so cute) and had brunch (hello cinnamon rolls) another day and sat outside in the restaurant area. There are so many neat little areas in this place, you could have a different experience each time you visit. It's perfect for couples, friends and family.

Great food bad pours

By Gina L |

We ordered the Seafood Louis Salad, it was delicious. The wine pour was terrible. It was like a tasting!!

Horrible first impression

By JRJ J |

My wife wanted to go here because the Sunday brunch was supposed to be good. We get there at around 10:30am. No one greets us, we don't know if we are supposed to seat ourselves. This our first time there. We seat ourselves and several wait staff are clearing tables. No one comes to our table. Finally I go to the counter and ask if we have to place our order at the counter. I was told yes.I go back to the table and let my wife know. There was another couple in the same predicament. We go to the counter and inquire about the brunch. We find out the brunch isn't until 11am. Mind you there were no signage about buffet times or seating yourself. The wait staff never greeted us. What a great first impression. My wife and I left and went to Tony P's in Marina Del Rey. As a side note I let a young lady know about our experience. She said she would let the manager know. She tell a young man at the counter about what I said. He turns and looks at us with less than desirable look. I definitely won't be going back. Playa Provisions is NOT the only game in town. I wish I could give No Stars on this.

Favorite place to hang in West LA

By PierreG1983 |

Great vibe, ok food, somehow good playlist, amazing location. Just being here makes you feel cooler. Particularly nice in early mornings. Wish they'd accept Apple Pay though...

Nice meal

By brmusicman |

Met a colleague for dinner here. Overall, we had a nice experience. Atmosphere is nice--casual chic. It does a good job of having a simultaneously beachy and upscale vibe. Service...meh. At the time of reservation we had requested an outdoor table; upon arrival, no such table was free without a 20 min wait. Annoying. It took forever to get the wine we ordered and when drinks and food was served they always had to ask who ordered what. At this price point, that's amateurish. Thankfully the food was great. Warm sourdough bread and butter was crusty and delicious. The catch of the day was a perfectly cooked tuna served with wonderful pairings. The roasted half-chicken was golden and moist and the little potatoes with it crispy and salty. The menu also had a ton of appealing vegetarian and carnivore options. It was hard to pick! Overall, nice experience. And only about 10 min by cab from LAX...definitely a good option for an airport overnight.

Disappointed

By Marla R |

We were so happy to have snagged a reservation to this restaurant. Looking forward to a great meal from one of the Top Chef winner Brooke's restaurants. We were disappointed in that we felt the meal was just average. It took an exceedingly long time to get our drinks. We had our 2 year old niece with us and there was a very nice kids menu. We ordered her the fish and chips which we later discovered was the same size portion as the adult fish and chips meal!! Also ordered the ceviche which was more sauce than substance. The calamari was also tasty but was the serving had small broken pieces. Adult seafood salads were good but average. The patty melt was very tasty but not served with anything on the side. Overall an average experience.

Lively, noisy, but prime location and great fun

By Dorothy C |

Went there for the first time on the Saturday of a 3 day weekend. Got reservations using the website which I highly recommend. Would suggest you ask for a patio table. The restaurant is right on the dunes so there are a lot of folks coming directly from the beach in casual attire. The front of the restaurant has both a coffee bar and an ice cream shop.....you would think it would be confusing and messy...but it is not, it is charming in the small area. We were a party of 3 seated inside the very small dining area which was nice and air conditioned. The bar is literally in the dining area and had a game on which was being cheered by a group of patrons. This is a great atmosphere to enjoy a brunch or lunch with highly personable staff and fun locals. Not the placed for intimate conversation or business. Would certainly suggest for smaller groups of friends or folks from out of town. Large groups may be challenged by the size of the facilities. Perhaps they could be seated outdoor but not sure. Particularly liked the doughnut bites with caramel.

Great place for lunch

By TimOBoston_Mass |

Right off the beach at playa provisions 119 culver blvd playa del rey, CA 90293. Not cheap but the sandwich was great. I had chicken and brie and my son had patty melt. Try it I think you will like it. The place had WiFi and is very clean and bikers get a discount.

Nice Restaurant

By AvaTennessee1 |

Nice restaurant, the seafood salad was the best dish of all the ones we ordered. The ice creams were very tasty as well. This is a neat spot and I would recommend it.

Fun and Relaxing Location

By sfgfiat |

Our brunch experience at Playa Provisions was enjoyable. The space is attractive in an interesting part of Culver Boulevard. Staff is very helpful and the valet parking works since other parking is limited. Next trip I hope to have more time to look around the restaurant as the outdoor spaces looked interesting.

Cool spot with great food

By lucy9lu |

We visited twice during our stay in Playa del Rey. They have an interesting menu, friendly staff and transition well from day to night. We stopped in for lunch as it's close to the beach. Our sandwiches were fresh and filling. We also visited in the evening, looking for something light after too many giant portions elsewhere. The varied menu has original offerings and plenty of seafood. 2 beers and 2 starters came to $43 so it'd be quite an expensive place for a 3 course meal, but suited our needs. Would also recommend the much smaller Tripel further up the road - same proprietors and great food but you'll be lucky to get a table!

Sloppy Takeout Service

By DebM2019 |

Playa Provisions needs to get its act together during this Covid era...we were looking forward to having a picnic dinner and discovered when we arrived at the beach that utensils/napkins were not included! Try eating creamed corn with your fingers.

Meh!

By obewan69 |

The food here, was at best, Meh! Had the Fish Tacos. Greasy and could not taste the fish. The parsnip soup was awful. Should have sent it back. The atmosphere is nice, but as to the rest,,,, Dessert, Had the cinnamon donuts. The donuts seemed packaged, like those old Sweet 16 ones we got as kids (sorry dating myself). The atmosphere is nice, but don't come here for the food. Prices are too high for basically bar food.

Perfect expresso coffee

By D P |

Lovely restaurant selling perfect coffees alongside food, which looked delicious and gifts. Lots of lovely books to buy and nice homeware items. Really busy and fun filled place for a meal.

This place sucks!!!

By kcrazy4792 |

the hiring practices are very questionable for this place they hire people they bad talk people the music is too loud.

More please!

By jemimawechsler |

Cute little casual spot that feels beachy and fun, the menu is relatively small but offers a really nice selection of seafood items. Lobster roll, check. Fish & chips are done with a really nice and crispy batter and the sweet potato fries are tasty, seasoned just right. Good selection of cocktails and beer and don't forget a scoop of home made ice cream before you make your way home. Parking can be a bit tricky, valet is available though the valet himself is a bit slow on the uptake.

Fine place to eat, very busy, noisey like daycare

By Charlie_Bites |

Raw oysters were good. Crab mac and cheese was OK, a little tasteless. Wife had salad which was unmemorable. Service was good considering how busy it was.

Just fricking outstanding!

By FRKFamily |

This place is great! Saturday afternoon and it’s packed. People know how good it is. We were in the dining room. Yet, there is a walk up deli, an ice cream counter (they make their own), and a speakeasy bar in the back. Can’t say enough about it except go there. No wonder it’s good when one of the owners won Top Chef.

Indifferent service, Some bad food.

By stacyschu |

Went here for a family gathering with high expectations. We had read great reviews and had tried twice for reservations with no luck, so had high hopes when we booked for a group of 9 on 1/13/18. First arrivals found no space set up for our fairly large group... waited while a table for 8 was arraigned, she had not made the reservation, so did not know that we were 9. The group gathered from far and wide for a family celebration, 9 th person had half a seat at the table... the rest of his body in the gap before the next table. No one came to wait on us for 15 minutes. Finally our grandson asked the hostess if he could get a kids menu and if someone could wait on us... he did and someone did. The orders were taken, the drinks arrived soon after... and they were GOOD, then the entrees arrived. Two of us ordered the lobster rolls. Mine had shells throughout. Made me gag and I could not eat it. I took it home and recleaned it before eating just the lobster out of it. The other one was overwhelmed with mustard seeds. That is a strong flavor, can overwhelm subtle lobster. I would have given this place a 1; but others thought the fish tacos and the kids meals were very good, so I threw in a point. I would never go back!

Superb in all categories

We love this find, the location, the atmosphere, the menu selection, the service and the food. Prior to our table being ready, we walked the beach and then found our way to our booth with an open roof and a fireplace nearby. It was perfect. My seafood Louie was excellent with dressing on the side, the tuna sandwich excellent and the breakfast sandwich just okay. Our other friend enjoyed his meal, but I do not remember what he had. Sorry. The service was excellent and we will return. Next time we will try the pastries.

Incredible food and coffee

By WorldTravellerDHF |

Their breakfast sandwich with sausage egg avocado and their homemade habanero sauce is incredible, as is there coconut chia porridge with fruit. Incredible music and vibe. Their cold brew, iced latte and drop coffee are exceptional.

First Time ! Good seafood !

By PhatPatW |

Had a good meal here. Started with the calamari which was amazing. Love the dipping sauce. We then shared the mac and cheese which was also very good. The fish tacos were huge!!! I had 3 of them and couldn't finish they were so big. Overall had a nice meal. Dinning area was a little dark for my taste. Love how it's close to the beach for a nice walk after your meal.

Little Tough to Find

By Budmanri |

This place was outstanding.Started with the Chenin Blanc happy hour wine $6 .6 oysters @ $4 each ,delicious. I had the catch of the day Halibut $26 , my wife had the Fish and Chips Laura was our server and she was top notch. We had our 1 year old granddaughter, so it was some work. The entire staff was so nice .This restaurant is very casual and child friendly.if you go ,you must check out all the bars and different venues, you will be amazed . Use the valet to park $3 .

Beautiful beach Spot in sleepy Playa Del Rey

By guap0bumsies |

Great cup of coffee sitting by the outside fireplace or an interesting draft in a cool playa spot by the beach - Worth a stop

Good food, but high prices and average service

By brittshotts |

A friend of mine was in town recently and I took him here for dinner at the recommendation of a coworker. It's close to the beach and reasonably close to LAX, which made it a perfect location before my friend flew out later than night. The food was good, bordering on great, but I had a few quibbles with the experience. First, Playa del Rey is a beach town and has a casual vibe. I work in El Segundo, so I frequent this area pretty often, and Playa Provisions feels... well... unnecessarily pretentious for the neighborhood it's in. I'm sorry, but you don't need valet parking here unless you absolutely can't stand to walk for 3-5 minutes at a time. The restaurant itself is casually stylish, with lots of unfinished wood and concrete that lends a sort of craftsman feel. I met my friend in the whiskey bar, which has more of a trendy, low-lit vibe than the dining area, and together we walked up to the host stand to secure a table. You seriously would have thought I told the hosts I had just killed someone, the way they looked at me when I mentioned that I hadn't booked a reservation. Is it that insane to show up at a casual restaurant on a Tuesday night without a reservation? Where am I again? At the hosts suggestion, we decided to grab a couple of adirondack chairs on the enclosed back patio, and used the ledge of the fire pit as a makeshift dining table. The service was average. We waited a long time between having our drink and food order taken, at least 15 minutes, and I feel like, given our choice of seating, we were a bit of an afterthought when it came to service. I don't think the same person came by more than once at any point during the meal, it was almost like we were being tag-teamed in between other tables. Like I said, the food is good, and I really enjoyed the lobster roll and the dungeness mac n' cheese. My friend's lamb shank was delicious. I believe the mains averaged somewhere between $18-30 if memory serves, which is what I'm used to paying for a good dinner out. I'd be willing to give it another shot, but there are so many other great options in this price range, with a more refined atmosphere and better service -- I'll probably default to Sugarfish in Marina del Rey the next time I feel like treating a friend on a layover, to be honest.

Awesome.

By Gma0917 |

Super simple. You want an awesome meal, Playa Provisions got you covered. And you can get some crazy awesome and unique ice cream for desert at their ice cream bar. If that won't do, their whiskey bar is cray cray. Can't say enough good things about PP. I have an amazing Louis Salad. Tons of shellfish. Amazing. Great clam chowder too. Total 5 thumbs up

Ok, but overpriced for what you get

By tommnow |

Average experience. The location is right of a beach, the staff was nice, however they had way too many flops on the food.. Drinks were not very well mixed, trout spread was subpar, and lobster was pretty dry and under seasoned, served without warm butter. On the other side, their wedge salad was great. Overall, a bit too pricey for what we got.

Dinner and drinks at the Bar

By Jeff I |

Stopped in to experience what has always been a great place for dinner, but I was solo. Ate at the bar. Christine was very nice and took great care of me. Crowded with young girls and guys who acted like it was their first time in the bar. Beyond this distraction, it was very good. Margarita was perfect paired with the Deviled Chicken skins. Nice Grenache paired with the Patty Melt. Very tasty and not little. Brooke’s restaurant continues to deliver the goods in this out of the way location.

A good night, great food

Strongly recommend the Brussels sprouts , amazing. The meals were a good size, and the service excellent. A great night

Lunch

By Smod65 |

Only had lunch here so far, but the Tuna sandwich was outstanding. When I bit into the sandwich there was a burst of flavor which was wonderful. The kind that makes you go wow!!! Really great, will go back for dinner.

Cross between restaurant and coffee shop

Let's start with the finish: leave room for their home made ice cream! Nice selection of foods and drinks, friendly and prompt service.

Delicious Food!!

By Std4SMTNG |

Went to this restaurant based on the recommendation from our hotel. The food was very good and fresh. The staff were nice and helpful. Although we were unable to get a reservation at the last minute we had an enjoyable dinner at one of the high tops. I would definitely go again when visiting the area.

Peaceful environment, wonderful food

By Brian E |

Like many others, we suspect, we were drawn here by Brooke Williamson's reputation. What made this experience so wonderful is that it wasn't stuffy or full of itself. It really is a place where the locals (and two out of towners) can go for a cup of coffee, or an informal lunch, or later in the day a more formal lunch. We were there for lunch and we shared the Connecticut seafood sandwich and the BLTA ("A" for avocado) sandwich. Both were exactly what we'd hoped for, something unique and filled with flavor. We topped it off with two home-made ginger cookies. It being situated right on the beach in sleepy Playa Del Rey, you are away from the traffic and congestion of the beach cities just south. This lends itself to being a place where you don't feel like they want to "seat 'em, feed 'em, and street 'em." This makes us respect even more what Brooke and her husband have created.

Worst place ever

By Jestudillo18 |

The host is terrible...no personality and has no idea of what is happening. Waited an hour, only to have him tell us that it was another 20 minutes. Terrible food. Horrible noise level. 12 a drink too. Don't waste your money or time.

Dinner - tasty, energetic, pricey

By a-travelin-foodie |

Definitely a hip place. Love that they have different sections - group or communal dining in the patio, cafe/counter area. A cool, dark (and crowded) bar in the back, generally open and airy dining in the main dinner area. Not a lot of selection on the entrée menu, but a few different oyster options, other chilled seafood. A couple of interesting appetizer options (next time, we try the lobster roll!) and a nice selection of salads and sides. Portions are generally pretty small, not very easy to share. Carrots with pesto a nice side. Crab mac n cheese a favorite. Scallops were tasty, as was the accompanying corn pudding, but there were only 3 small scallops. Short rib was tender in spots, dry in others. Desserts very small, but get the donut and keep it to yourself! It can get very loud - almost too loud to hear across a table of 4. $15 corkage. Valet parking for $2. You can walk to the beach before or after if this is a special treat/destination for you.

Great concept in a perfect location

By clairef246 |

One building houses 4 unique dining experiences. You can find something interesting to feed your cravings at any time of day. The building has a rustic, modern look, just across the street from the beach. Valet parking at site. Casual atmosphere. Right inside the entrance there is a counter that serves coffee, breakfast items, salads, sandwiches, and gourmet ice cream. You can take the items with you to the beach or there some inside tables and a small outside/sheltered patio with picnic benches and a fireplace. The main restaurant dining area is bright and airy. Not very large. Best to have a reservation to get a table. There is a bar in dining area and an outside patio area with glass walls and a fire pit to protect you on a breezy beach afternoon. In the back of the building they also have a whiskey bar. Dark and moody. Just the vibe you would expect from a whiskey bar. The food was inventive and fun. Lots of different ways to go with the menu. You could do a cold fish route. Several different oysters to choose from or you can opt for a seafood tower. Shrimp cocktails, lobster rolls.... There are a few entree items. From the sea and "Not fish" options. We went with the small plates options. We were able to order from the main menu and also the menu they have for the whiskey bar. Was hard to decide what to get. Everything looked good. We started with a cheese and meat plate. You make 3 selections of meat and cheese choices and it comes on a platter with many other yummy accompaniments. Next we had crab claw pops, brussels sprout caesar salad, and duck confit poutine. All the items were delicious. This is definitely a place I would want to visit several times. A neighborhood gem. Too bad I don't live in LA.

Beachside open air patio

By rebmans |

We came for Brunch on a Sunday. Ate in the restaurant, not the take-away, doggie patioi, or ice-cream bar. A bit of an odd assortment of dishes: I had the lentils and poached egg; my husband had a very pale and unappealing assortment of toast and eggs. Friends had skillet breakfast and crab benedict. It was nice to be in an out of the way place with good access to beach, but the food was not up to our standards.

Creative seafood and fun atmosphere

By Emily Z |

We stumbled on this place after flying into LAX. It’s very close to the airport & beach. We enjoyed the creative seafood dishes (Seafood Louis Salad and river salmon) and cocktail list. The wait staff was very nice and constantly helping each other serve all of the customers. I would go here often if I lived in the area!

Terrific spot for upscale casual food and drink

By CBNOVA |

Came here twice for dinner and drinks while traveling solo for work. For me this isn't a place for serious business meetings or for younger kids. The decor is trendy and as another reviewer described, shabby chic and beach-inspired. The food was terrific, though I noted in other reviews that the delivery/preparation of the food can be inconsistent. I ordered the same appetizer two nights in a row, the first night it was amazing, the second night, slightly off on temperature/consistency, but still very good. The bar tenders make terrific cocktails and the beers on tap are a good mix of micro-brews and the standard offerings. The menu of whiskeys and other spirits is hard to top and the staff seemed knowledgeable about most everything on the menu. Overall, I had a very good experience here and I will come back when I'm in town next.

Should be oh so much better

By AARDVARKKILLER |

Great spot, great nooks, including the outdoor patio, I think they were understaffed. Six of us stopped in for breakfast, we were all unimpressed. This location with it fully self contained spaces is an amazing concept, but it doesn't appear they have it together. The food was just ok, no wow factor, and the service as I said underwhelming

Great potential, needs to mature, but worth a try

By Unbongout |

I gave it an average rating because the food wasn't up to its potential. Service was good and friendly and helpful, the noise level high because that is what happens when a restaurant is crowded. The food was innovative but not as well executed as it should has been, salt is not a substitute for flavor. I would wait until I saw a few more very good to excellent reviews before returning!

Good lobster roll near the bluffs

By Neuron A |

The restaurant is located next to the sand bluffs and give a nice ocean feel even though there are no views of the water. The lobster roll and Moscow Mules I had were good and the service throughout the night was friendly. The beach is just a minute or two across the street; easy to get to if you want.

Great atmosphere but food just ok

By Sissy316 |

Our group of 6 was really looking forward to our visit as we heard so many great things about this restaurant. Our party of 4 turned to a party of 6 the night before our reservation. We were told there were no available tables but they would squeeze us into a table for 4 and put a chair at the end. We managed but was a bit annoyed when a party of 3 were seated at the table for 6 next to us. We were not offered the larger table. The atmosphere, service and drinks were great! The food was ok and overpriced!

Great- Great food...

By Jerry P |

But terrible service. Close to the ocean and with the view this is a great location for after a beach walk.. a fun bar that should be more fun than it is. But the real reason to come here - the FOOD. Just great stuff. Oysters that are so fresh and fairly priced. Appetizers than when put together make a full meal. And glasses of great wines. But the service is really poor. So do not expect anyone to actually care if you have any questions or if you want to ask any either. So go with low expectations of that part. .but go with high expectations of the food.. which again is great.

Thumbs-up on the ice cream!

By Jennifer C |

My friend and I stopped in at Playa Provisions just for ice cream, but it was darn good ice cream so I'm giving the place an "Excellent" rating! The staff accommodated me with a "split scoop" so that I could try both the mint chocolate chip and vegan chocolate flavors. Both were outstanding, and you would never known that the vegan version didn't contain dairy. The ice cream part of Playa Provisions is a cute, cheerful spot...worth a visit for a scoop!

Grain Whiskey Bar

By DMBTattoo |

This review is for the Grain Whiskey Bar portion of Playa Provisions. Cute little “tucked away” (yet easy to find) Speakeasy Style Bar. It’s a small room off to the side under the red light. (Though the door was wide open and it says Grain on it, so there Speakeasy vibe is wasn’t fully there) I had an Egg Nog drink which was fantastic and a whiskey Cider type drink that was also to die for. Great bartender and they really know their stuff. Definitely would return, just wish for more of that Speakeasy vibe. (Make it less obvious, no sign, close the door).

By 2TravelLuvers |

This review might be a little biased. Brooke Williamson is my favorite chef on the planet. So going to her restaurant was a thrill. I had eggs, bacon, and gluten-free banana bread. While the eggs and bacon were excellent, the banana bread was otherworldly. My wife had cream and wheat with quinoa, a Morning Glory muffin, and an Earl Grey Tea. She loved her selection as well. We will definitely return!

A Visit to Grain for Drinks

By dunadan |

My wife and I walked down Culver from our stay at the Inn at Playa Del Rey and decided to make our progressive dinner, starting with drinks at Grain, the whiskey bar at the rear of Playa Provisions. We chose well to start our evening, and the extensive menu took a bit to take in, given the several pages of drinks and sprits. I settled on a Kentucky bourbon drink muddled with mint and cucumber, and my wife ordered a Peary pear drink, both of which were delicious. We snacked on an small dish of fried purple yam fritters dipped in stone ground mustard, also amazing. The whiskey bar is small but lively, the bartenders friendly and knowledgeable, and the drinks list is extensive.

Playa Provisions

By Cathy E |

You could actually spend the entire day at this restaurant! Start with breakfast: they have a wonderful breakfast sandwich, or something more healthy like granola with fruit, or a green smoothie. Then you could have lunch in the cafe made up of salads and other sandwiches (like chicken and brie--yummy-followed by homemade ice-cream with delicious toppings! Dinner is a bit more formal in another area, and mostly seafood, with the best salmon I think I have ever had, and wonderful appetizers like oysters and crab pops. Desserts are to die for. After dinner, retire to the whiskey bar, where, if you're still hungry, you can even order bar food! Brooke Williamson and her husband Nick Roberts have another winner here!

Fantastic brunch! A must try.

By k_schimke |

Eggs Benedict is wrecked for me forever after this delicious meal. Kicked it off with the cinnamon bun with caramelized bacon, then the shrimp and lobster eggs Benedict. The vibe was great on the patio with the fireplaces going.

I expected MORE!

By Elizabeth L |

We just finished our LA vacation week. When planning this vacation all I could think about was the amazing restaurants we were going to eat at. Play Provisions being first on my list. I made reservations months ago. I didn't know that you have to request to sit outside. I really wanted to like this restaurant. I have a lot of respect for Brook as a chef. My first impression wasn't good. It was either the hostess or the manager that seated us and she was not pleasant at all, somewhat pretentious. Our server was brand new, literally she had only been there for a week, so she didnt know any of the answers to our questions. The menu was complicated. We had two starters, one was the biscuit and it was ok and the other was a dish with cut figs, melted cheese and prosciutto, the name of the dish sounded cooler and more yummy than what came to our table. Totally uninspiring. I ordered the Tuna Nicoise salad that had an eight minute egg on it.. Really, an eight minute egg? why bother writing that on the menu, its basically just a hard boiled egg and it was overcooked? The tuna had zero seasoning, the salad was boring. The best thing on the menu was the roasted carrots with the kale pesto. This restaurant could be so much better. It needs some help in the kitchen.

Delicious Sunday Brunch

By WriterGirlCleveland |

I was at Playa Provisions on Sunday of Labor Day weekend. The atmosphere was casual, with lots of wood and metal, but not cold or sterile. There are multiple dining spaces, including a covered patio with a fire pit, but I was dining alone so I ate at the bar. I had a roasted chicken sandwich, with swiss, avocado and a fermented pepper aioli on ciabbata bread. Yum! I also had a matcha latte that was really good. I talked to folks around me and everyone's food looked, and according to them tasted, very good. From eggs benedict with crab and shrimp to a salad with crab and shrimp to the tuna sandwich, I can't wait to go back next time I'm in southern California. The chef/owners were hosting a BBQ behind the restaurant so I went to that after lunch for a while. The people watching was great, and there was grilled food and drinks for purchase, and bounce houses for the kids, along with a DJ. After staying for an hour or so, I went back into Small Batch, one of the 4 separate spaces within Playa, and tried some of the housemade ice cream. I got the Cereal Killer (with Lucky Charms in it!), and salted caramel popcorn. So good! I also got a cookie to go for later and it was great. Definitely save room for dessert!

Wonderful Beach-Side Eatery

Playa Provisions is a great, trendy beach-side eatery that offers fresh and healthy options, been many times and have never been disappointed. Service is always with enthusiasm and a smile! Enjoy!

Amazing!

Great food, great environment, great vibe, great music, great seating, great service – truly love this place!

Cute beachside spot with patio seating

By Shanelle |

Cute restaurant with outdoor patio dining. Came here in a group of four and didn’t have reservations, but since we were there early (5:30), we were able to snag a table. Happy hour is from 5-6. Got the garlic and pepper fried calamari, pretzel bites, trout dip, and shishito peppers - all of them were tasty. My favorite was the trout dip. The portions were indeed happy hour sized, so we ordered dinner too. I split the Mary’s chicken, which had a vaguely Thai taste. It came with a side of broccoli and it was really large - even after two of us ate it, we still had leftovers. Credit cards accepted. Restrooms are available across from the photo booth. Valet parking for $3 cash or you can try your luck with street parking. Bar seating is available. They have a ice cream spot, whiskey bar, and more casual cafe all located within the building. Reservations are accepted online.

Playa Provisions birthday dinner

By Erica E |

Visited for dinner for my birthday. Seated early. Wait staff was attentive but not too pushy. Food was incredible, had the calamari, seafood roll, and crab Mac and cheese. There was no view of the sunset, which was the only drawback, but the dusk lighting really added to the experience. Would definitely go back!

Delicious easy lunch in a relax setting

By kahluabis |

Came here before flying out of LAX. Very nice cafe close to the beach with a patio protected from the wind. Delicious sandwiche, salad and coffee!

Did not like it over all

By sfbofill |

My husband, son and I had dinner here Saturday night. The place is pretty, the waiter was friendly, appetizers were good, but the main courses....Never again! The halibut dish was greasy, swimming in olive oil?, the fish and chips were also greasy and mediocre. Not a cheap place either, think again before trying it out!

Clam chowder with a beach view

By Aviationtraveler1 |

We stumbled across this place while looking for a place to eat along the beach. It did not disappoint. There's a cool bar with a good area of indoor seating. The sliding glass barn door opens up when the weather is nice and offers seating along a wall with open windows. When it's cooler you can sit around two stone fire pits. It is a fun atmosphere. The local beer selection was good and the clam chowder was excellent.

Lunch = Lobster Roll!

By Lisa B |

Great place for lunch & close to the beach! We had an amazing lunch, my daughter had the chicken sandwich, her boyfriend the corned beef and I ordered the lobster roll. It was delicious and everyone agreed we will return. You can't go wrong!

Nice location with creative seafood dishes

By SamanthaKur |

We enjoyed a light dinner consisting of clam chowder and lobster rolls. The chowder was tasty with fresh steamers, and the lobster rolls wonderful with lots of lobster and a delicious mix of garnishes. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful. The only downside was in the parking lot where the valet attendants were smoking so much that our car was full of smoke and we had to drive several blocks with the windows open to air out the car.

A great find!

By Edita_Stuckey |

We stumbled upon this little gem on our bike ride and it was just perfect for us - organic, fresh made, local, friendly staff. Try the dulce de leche biscuit - you won't be disappointed!

Lacking Wow factor!

By bento2744 |

This relatively new restaurant was featured in Los Angeles Times Saturday Food section, so we decided to pay a visit, since it is in our neighborhood. It is located on the former site of Via Marina Restaurant which was replaced with this new structure. The restaurant is modern in appearance with light wood exterior near the beach in Playa Del Rey,Ca. We ordered deep fried zucchini, loaf of bread with garlic spread, patty melt, fried sand dab, mac cheese and side of broccoli. Zucchini was over fried and burned with tomato dip which had no flavor, mac cheese much the same. The fried Sand Dabs had uniform shape which looked like something out of freezer section, dry (not enough sauce ) and plain old fish sticks. It was accompanied by sliced artichoke hearts were tough and difficult to digest. Other reviews complained of slow service, but we were pleased with our service! Their menu is a la carte, so with sides, it can be bit expensive meal. I definitely don't mind paying for good meal, but we walked out of this restaurant wondering what the fuss was all about? We have tried LA Times featured restaurants several times, but in every case, it was a bust! This is one of many trendy restaurants with lots of hoopla, but without good food, most life span is short. So, we go back to our favorites where we know food is good, our attempt to broaden our eating experience has failed us thus far.

Beachside Cuisine!

By Sherlock9190 |

Playa Provisions is a great addition to the beach! It is really 4 little places in one! The Whisky Tasting room is dark and at the back of the place, no "beach" vibe, but feels like an old school pub. There are some terrific whiskies and Scotch..., Give him a price and have the server take you through a flight of interesting choices! The ice cream bar has a number of home-baked, homemade delicious delights. In the morning it is coffee and pastries, afternoons it's homemade ice cream and treats! There is the traditional bar with a view to the outdoors, and the restaurant is outdoors, with the sunshine and smell of the sea. Pricing is within expectation $$$-$$$$, there are some interesting food choices. The lobster mac and chess is very rich and creamy. The brisket is just that, brisket! But it's juicy and flavorful. Service has been good but management is still trying to figure out the serving staff needs. On 3 occasions I had to wait 45 mins to more than an hour! But it was forgiven with a complimentary cocktail. Worth a try in the area... I've been back despite the wait, the previous comment nailed it, the place needs to mature, but if you can be forgiving, you'll have a terrific meal! (Hey locals, great place for out-of-towners!)

Try the fish tacos

By Hatcher08 |

The fish tacos were tasty: just the right amount of zing. The tuna ciabatta hit the spot. The ice cream was delicious. It wasn't super busy when we visited last week. Unfortunately, my friend's order got mixed up and while the salad she wanted was in the case when we ordered, it was given to someone else and there was no more when our orders were brought to the table. The place was clean and everyone seemed friendly.

Yummy Breakfast

By Abigail F |

I've been here for breakfast a few times and it's very good. You order at a counter, find a table, and they bring the food over to you. They have seating inside and outside but I think I've only seem communal tables for seating. I've never had a problem finding a seat. I have tried their tuna sandwich and breakfast sandwich, both are really good. They are really big portions, I always say we should split something but it never happens. Their coffee and cappuccino is also really good.

Attention to detail!

By Biananaingeal |

Just back from here after brunch with friend. We had made reservations, which is a good idea, as Sunday brunch is busy! Seated inside, busy, noisy, music, tv etc! Had Champage cocktail and Bloody Mary, both great. A side order of their biscuit bites, yum. Both ordered Cajun Shrimp & Dungenes Crab Benedict. It looks good but both were only lukewarm! Plates were cold! Taste.. Was good, shrimp were tiny and you would have to search for the Dungenes crab, a tiny sprinkling on top was all I could find! Not once did our waitress come to ask if everything was ok, need any salt or pepper, nothing! Hmmmm! We decided not to ask to have it taken back as it would take too long for another order, so we ate it . It would have tasted so much better with some heat through the it! When our plates were cleared away, our waitress asks will there be anything else, I reply, good for now thanks, meaning I just finished that coarse, I will rest before deciding if I'm going to order dessert! She comes back a few minutes later with check! Hmmmm! We both like the place, have been noumirous times, prefer the 'outside seating area', not as loud out there! And feels more spacious. Will give it a miss for a while!

Breakfast

By Abigail F |

My boyfriend and I sometimes ride our bikes from Manhattan Beach to Playa Provisions on weekend morning to get some exercise and food. We're been here 3-5 times now, only for breakfast, and stick to the breakfast sandwich, a pastry, and lattes. The breakfast sandwich is really good, the sausage they use is so delicious. I have also tried their tuna melt which is also very good but we normally just split one sandwich and always end up going for the same thing. They made a really good cinnamon roll too but I wish they heated it up before serving, that would make it 100 times better. Their lattes are also very good. I cannot comment on their other food but the ice cream setup looks very good and they have some unique flavors. Someday we will have to make a bike trip later in the day to try it. I think parking is free if you get there early, otherwise they have a valet stand and I'm not sure what the cost is.

Good not Great

By Gennifer T |

Drink menu was huge. Should have been the other way around. First time there with family and sort of hoped for more extensive food selection. Service was average. Price was good for the value.

Not worth the hype

By monica b |

I expected so much more from this place. I had heard mixed reviews but was will to try it out for myself. I really love the concept of the restaurant and the place has great energy. The cocktail menu is pretty lengthy and the whiskey bar in the back is sure to provide a good time. Because there are not a ton of options in Playa I think this place will last longer then it should. My issue with my experience was the overall attitude of the staff, lack of professionalism/ knowledge of the waiters and overpriced menu items. Since it was my first time dinning here I was hoping to get some direction with the menu but our waiter was not helpful at all. We were left with two menus. One for Dockside (the main dinning room) and one for Grain the Whiskey bar. My friend, who had dinned here before, explained that we could order off either of the menus. Since the waiter could only tell us "Everything is good" we decided start with a charcuterie and cheese board. You can't go wrong with meat and cheese right??? WRONG For $22 we got 2 slices of stale bread and the smallest portion of cheese and meat I've ever seen. Coming from West Hollywood I'm use to small overpriced portions but even in West Hollywood this would be laughable. The worst part is that my friend said that she had ordered this before with her husband and father and they received a much larger portion. The only thing I can assume is they felt two small girls would not eat as much so they served us a smaller portion. I felt completely ripped off! This set the tone for a disappointing dinner. I decided at this point I did't want to waste my money ordering entrees so we split the Dungeness Crab mac & cheese and the roasted brussels sprouts. When the waiter brought out the dishes he forgot serving spoons and clean plates. When we asked for these the waiter brought us new forks and and two plate but only replace my friends dirty plate!?! I felt like I was in some bazaar universe! After asking again we finally got our serving spoons and could eat. The Dungeness Crab mac & cheese was delicious! I felt a little better about our choice to dine here after eating this. We ended the night with a drink in the Whiskey bar. The have a large list but were out of the one whiskey we wanted. It took a good 15 minutes to get a drink and the bartenders were not the friendliest. In my opinion this place is not worth the money if your looking for a quality meal and good service.

Just across the street from the dunes and the beach. Inside seating, patio, bar, and fireside too. Valet parking. Fresh seafood (oysters) and lots of other great entrees, salads (crab Louis!), sandwiches (sand dab), and numerous apps and brunch choices. I enjoyed everything we ordered, the outside patio fireside seating, service, and cocktails. Only suggestion is that the outdoor area get pressure washed, getting kind of sticky from spilled drinks perhaps.

Good choice for Breakfast

By Rose P |

My partner and I visited for breakfast as recommended by a friend who lives in LA. The food was pretty good and coffee was ok - so far the closest I've had to normal by Australian standards. Service was a little lacking in terms of friendliness but all in all enjoyed my breakfast and would likely return.

Stop here for an ice cream pick-me-up

By TravelingMom454 |

We stopped here for an afternoon pick-me-up of ice cream and coffee with our two young kids. What a charming place! The ice cream flavors are creative (Cereal Killer!) and the coffee was satisfying. Just what we needed to power us through an afternoon of fun.

Cute restaurant with whiskey bar and ice cream counter

By Shanelle |

Cute restaurant with an ice cream counter and a whiskey bar in the back. Came here on a Friday around 6:30 and got bar seating. For tables, I’d strongly recommend making a reservation (you can do so online). There is an outdoor patio as well as indoor seating. $3 cash only for valet parking (it’s pretty hard to find street parking in the area). The cocktails are well-made and the bartenders are super friendly. They have a little aquarium as well so you can check out the fish while you wait. The calamari is really fresh and the pretzel bread with cheese sauce is filling - both are good options to share between two people.

kind of pricey but good

By travel4w0rkandplay |

We just ate in the cafe side. There is a sit down restaurant as well. The people here are very friendly and it was a good crowd. We had just come from the beach so we didn't want to eat in the restaurant and ended up in the patio outside. The sandwich was good and the ice cream yummy, but it is kind of sad when the only thing I remember about it was that it was kind of expensive! I do remember it was good tho... but not so good I would go out of my way to eat here.

Catering very clean, stylish and cozy. Great food. great value for money. But what made our experience in this restaurant a little more special was the kindness, attention and friendliness of the waiter Kenneth who pampered us and made us feel at home. Super recommended!

Perfect Brunch Setting

By Billyjoe52 |

We met family here when they were travelling through LA. It has a great atmosphere, great vibe, and good food. It also packs a full bar to delight the palate. Parking is always tough at the beach but they have valet parking that is very reasonably priced. This is a great go-to place.

Phenomenal food & atmosphere

By Walksy22 |

I'm a bit of a Top Chef junkie so really made a point to come to Playa Provisions on our trip from Canada. We spent a bunch of time at Playa Del Rey Beach and then wandered over at lunchtime. We went to King Beach and had a great lunch and then the kids got some ice cream at Small Batch before we left. Food overall was fantastic and a cool, fun atmosphere.

Great place for lunch and work a change of pace

By Guy GD |

With two outside patios and a large area of inside seating Playa Provisions is a flexible space. Staff don't hurry you off the table so this is a great place to come and work or linger for lunch. They offer a good selection of sandwiches and salads. The burrata with olive tapenade on ciabatta is a personal favorite. The watermelon and feta salad is light and refreshing. PP has a liquor license with a small selection of beer and wine. The coffees are excellent. The back patio has s fire pit with booth as well as communal seating affording a view of the sand dunes that obscure an ocean view, but it's so close you can practically hear the waves.

Odd concoctions that tease the tastebuds!

By Erin H |

What a fun place, went for dinner, but I guess lunch is fun too with cafeteria style dining. We were in dining room for sunset over the Pacific, what a view. Such choices to choose, I had to make appetizers my meal since I wanted to try to so many different things. Drinks options were good too, jalapeno margarita anyone? Hush puppies, bourbon milk, cookies, ice cream, all good choices. It is a bit pricey, but it is LA. It appeared to be family friendly, but good overall.

Great food & drinks.

By Lynn D |

Loved this place. Wait staff was professional , chillin & helpful. Food & drinks excellent. We were there on a Wednesday night & truly enjoyed this place. Great location. We Ubered from an airport hotel. Nice neighborhood for walking. We went down to the beach from there.

Breakfast - best biscuits ever!

By a-travelin-foodie |

Went for the biscuits and may have to go back again, and again - just for those! Crispy, soft, buttery - didn't need any extra butter or that huge dollop of dulce de leche they give you to spread in case you don't want the butter. That was fabulous, too, but next time I'll ask for 1/2 the caramel. Also tried the pretzel croissant and cinnamon roll which were good but nothing to die for. There were two hot breakfast items on the menu, but neither looked that enticing this time, so we just stuck with the pastries. There were some other pastries available, and even cookies. Drip coffee was good but not excellent; they keep refill coffee nearby for you to get whenever you want. Some outdoor seating in an enclosed patio (a little chilly on a fall/winter morning since the sun doesn't shine in). Bar top family style seating inside - the main restaurant is closed during breakfast hours.

Overpriced and underperformed

By snakemanlv |

I had heard great things about this place, I couldn't have been more disappointed. The food was blah, my soup was about a half cup full and like thick gravy. The lobster rolls were weak, the dessert was not great. Our bill was about 150$, and we went for McDonald's afterward. We were told a couple things we sent back would be taken off our bill but they were not.

Great food & ambience

By Rumblingstrips |

Love Playa Provisions for its innovative food and drinks. The restaurant has outdoor seating overlooking the beach which is lovely at dusk. There is also separate seating for people with pets. I dinged one star for the service which can definitely be friendlier at this place.

2017 winner of Top Chef's restaurant: expected better

By Barb T |

We went here as it's in the neighborhood and the restaurant's owner just won the 2017 Top Chef. I expected better. The bloody mary so spicy I could not finish, like thick V8. Not much brunch menu selection. The Top Chef winning Biscuits with Dulce de Leche were very good; however, the biscuits were dry and crumbled apart trying to apply the awesome dulce de leche spread. I had the skillet fried eggs with veggies, kale pesto, arugula. Fresh ingredients; eggs stuck to the bottom of skillet, hard to eat; was so-so. Very loud, lots of people, great wait staff. Live music. Not much ambiance.

Fun and Delicious

By GingelaOK |

The wait for the King Beach was a bit long, but we were able to order our meal at Small Batch, which worked out really well. Ordered lobster roll, seafood Louis salad and fried sand dabs. Great stuff. For dessert, got the donuts. Fun and delicious! Great food. It was really loud...

Dockside

By Kevin B |

Unique concepts with the multiple dining options under one roof. I ate at dockside for dinner. The oysters and scallops on the half shell were excellent. I particularly liked the orange flavor on the scallop and their cocktail sauce. Lobster roll was one of the better I have had. Bun was super buttery but also crispy. Lobster meat was a bit more of a light chop or just minced from mixing with mayo. Some people might prefer larger chunks like claw meat but I liked it this way as it made it easier to eat. I also tried the ice cream which was decent but the coffee grinds needed to be a bit more finely ground. Service was okay. Make sure to bring cash for valet. A little pricey but it’s CA and Oceanside so I was expecting that. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and food.

Eat here!

By OlsonHB2015 |

Best food, service and ambiance you'll find in the South Bay! The menu is large and filled with only amazing dishes. The Grain specializes in whiskeys and they make delicious cocktails.

Fantastic food and vibe.

By FRKFamily |

Great Restaurant with beautiful, creative, and delicious plates of food. A must stop when in the area. We always make an point to stop when In the area.

Great local spot...all good

By bertshowbert |

I had a five hour layover in LA so this was a bar/restaurant right by the airport. Was no problem. Food was great. Service fantastic. People friendly. ONLY knock is that ya have some construction going on outside the restaurant blocking the view of the beach. Other than that alllll good,

Bad experience has left me sad.

By Trvlr |

Playa Provisions food is so good I find it difficult to complain. They change their policies and procedures so that regulars are treated with disrespect for not following non-existent rules. I go three times a week at least and the last time they have decided to start seating guests on the patio but as they have not done that in a year how would someone know? They demand that I leave my table even with half a dozen empty tables and no line! I left but my freind stayed inside to wait for our now to go order. They berated me to many others inside. My guest was really shocked at this and then started wondering if they sabotaged our food. Hmmmmm.

Great Beach Location

By Creighdo |

Very popular place apparently. My daughter and I visited on a Sunday morning for brunch. It was packed! Yeah, I know, what were we expecting? We were lucky enough to get two seats at the bar and ordered a "house Bloody Mary" and a Moscow Mule. It was very noisy and lots of kids. We did get a table and took it trying to secure a quieter place to sit. The murmur of discussion is expected, however, conversation was difficult, at best. Many beers both unique and varied were available as well as interesting cocktails. Will return, but on a quieter day. Service was adequate.best. Food was good. I ordered a sandwich.

Loved the food and service but not the noise.

By ANOUL |

We took twelve folks to dinner during the holiday. Great service and great food but I literally could not hear the person across from me at the table because of the noise level. I don't mind ambient noise but this was over the top. HOWEVER, THAT SINGLE FACTOR WOUD NOT KEEP US FROM GOING BACK. The food was excellent and our server was wonderful.

Don’t waste your time

By Shelleyrobson |

Just ok food for 5 star prices. Service was fine but the overall experience left much to be desired. Not worth the hype.

Nice casual brunch

By FarmerRK |

Three of us went on a Saturday for brunch--recommend you get reservations. I had the sand dab sandwich -- delicious, fish was cooked just right. My friend had the lobster salad sandwich--she loved it. The third person had eggs with hash browns and he really enjoyed it. Coffee was good but the cup was very small--I would recommend they get bigger cups. The atmosphere is very pleasant, there is outdoor seating. Valet parking is $2, very reasonable. Best part is that the beach is right across the street so you can go for a walk either before or after your meal. Will definitely come back.

Birthday Celebration

By tim c |

We arrived for dinner as this is one of Debs favourite chefs, Brooke. The atmosphere, the food, the seating areas all very inviting. The staff were patient as we could not decide. The nights special was scallops, perfectly cooked, presentation stunning and the taste was out of this word. The whisky bar was an another great surprise and our server was again the reason we will return. Value for the money. It was a great way to celebrate Debs birthday. Upscale beach bar feel and everything upscale. Try the ice cream.

Best Place in Playa

By PDaddyAluise |

Playa del Rey is on an upswing and Playa Provisions is one establishment leading this charge... We had drinks and snacks in the back bar, The Grain Room and then went for a little stroll, only to return a bit later to have dinner in the main room. We sat at the bar which provides a full menu and had a great time! The food was fantastic and the service was great. Our new favorite local hangout!

Unique Restaurant In the Dunes, Near the Beach

By MljH |

Yum! We ate here in mid-June, and waited for a while to get a table (we did have reservations) on the enclosed patio. The windows slide open, so you get the lovely breeze from the ocean. Waiting for a table despite reservations was not a problem for our small group of three. We simply sat at the bar and enjoyed the view, the people watching, and well-mixed drinks. The food was delicious, great oysters, perfectly prepared fresh fish, and excellent service. Friendly staff, and interesting place. Three (?) restaurants in one building, one serving ice cream, another a deli, is a fun concept, but everyone that night was dining at Playa. A great restaurant with a talented chef! Make reservations, as it is a busy place!

Great breakfast spot for young families

By Jayne C |

The food was great, and not to pricey. Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning, and was amazed at the number of families with small children. The food was worth it, but I wouldn't go expecting a quiet crowd. There was more than one crying/screaming child, not a romantic brunch location.

Dune-side eclectic hipster hangout

By Z7011UDmichaelp |

One of the few decent places in this part of town. Half restaurant and half coffee stop. Inexpensive valet parking so don't be afraid to pull in. Dune views and ocean breezes on the glassed in patio.

Good food and fun atmosphere

By CelticGirlLA |

I've been twice and really enjoyed it both times. Oysters, great lobster rolls, chowder, cocktails, homemade ice cream, great dark whisky bar in the back. A little something for everyone! My only quibble was one visit was on a sunday night for a birthday and they were out of the two dishes i tried to order and it was 8pm. I had a nice wine after the wine buyer came over to help, our waitress didn't seem to have enough knowledge of their list but she was great in everything else. I love that the owners have really european centric wines in both this place and The triple. For those of us that live in California but love wines from other places in the world, this is a godsend. It just doesn't happen in most wine lists here unless you are a very high priced french or Italian restaurant. Her list has excellent choices here and at the Triple on wines you would love if you prefer an older vine and simple taste of excellent well made wine. I'm a big fan of this place and my two visits will keep me coming back for more. They are nice, unpretentious and striving for innovation and great food.

Good Casual Playa del Rey Restaurant

By Jonathan R |

My family and I recently had dinner at Playa Provisions. The restaurant staff was very accommodating in giving us a table with enough space to accommodate a baby stroller in an open-air patio with window views. My wife and I liked our lobster roll and Connecticut seafood roll sandwiches, and everyone enjoyed the chocolate-chip cookies for dessert. The restaurant also is close to the beach for after-dinner strolls.

Great Food Along The Beach Bike Path

By TwoWheelExplorer |

Dining options have always been slim along the beach bike path between Marina Del Rey and Manhattan Beach, until now! Playa Provisions is a wonderful new cafe situated a short distance from the beach bike path, at the corner of Culver Blvd. and Pacific Ave., that is definitely worth the detour. Playa Provisions has something for everyone. In addition to serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Playa Provisions also features homemade ice cream, delectable baked goods, and will soon have a full service bar! So whether you want a sandwich, sundae, or scotch, Playa Provisions will have what you want. We visited the restaurant for lunch, which featured a tasty menu of soup, sandwiches, and salads. I highly recommend the Roasted Chicken and Brie sandwich on freshly baked ciabatta roll with kale pesto, roasted tomatoes, and peppadews peppers and the salad made of quinoa, white corn, and almond. Both dishes were delicious and bursting with flavor. Special praise goes to the restaurant for providing two large bike racks, an amenity that many beach restaurants inexplicably don't provide. Combined with a large parking lot, the bike racks ensure that Playa Provisions is easy to access whether you come by two or four wheels!

Overpriced for a weird variety of food

By carolinao533 |

The restaurant has a great location because is feet away from the beach. The atmosphere looked "fresh" and inviting. I got there with a friend ready for some wine and they said they didn't serve Merlot (Which is my favorite type of wine). I ended up having an italian recommended wine and it was so sour and gross. When I asked about any pasta recommendations, the waiter said they didn't serve pasta (only at the salad bar). With no merlot and no pasta to choose from, I decided to order chicken (one choice only) but he said that it was a whole chicken with no sides. To make it a short story, my friend and I ordered three appetizers (mushrooms, 2 crab legs, and squash) and two glasses of wine. When the bill came it was $65. Very weird menu and extremely overpriced for what it is. I heard that if you are into whisky is a good place to go. Also, I heard the gelato is good.

No Service - no menu - we went elsewhere

By JC1064 |

Having seen this on line we decided to go for lunch - parking is convenient and when you walk up to the door that was a best bit. This place seem to have 2 areas - one more like cafe coffee shop with a coffee counter and the other a nice looking bar and patio area and tables in side. There was a sign on the hostess counter to sit yourself and order at the coffee bar - there were people sitting at the bar but there was no bar person - we wandered around - could not find any staff to help - there were no menus to be had then a person came out of the kitchen carrying what looked like some nice burgers - he just said sit yourself - and order from the coffee counter as the bar is not staffed and they will need to bring it from the coffee area - which had a long queue. At that point we decided to go elsewhere. If the TV chef cannot employ bar staff or hostesses for a lunch time that is pertty poor from my point of view. If you want to be a self service cafe then dont have a nice looking bar. If you serve food a menu would be nice. What we wanted is a nice relaxed lunch sitting on a nice looking patio - what we got was people who obviously dont care about their restaurant

Yummo

By lbalon |

My husband and I went for dinner. Both the food and the service was great. My husband had the shave baby root salad and the special (boneless ribeye, mashed potatoes and veggies) and I had raw oysters and the carrot tagliatelle with clams. The flavor was great, I just wish it has some sauce with it-I would definitely order it again, though

Bad Experience

By Bill W |

Highly disappointed and way under-par. Arrived at 5:35PM. Stood 10 minutes at hostess station before being even acknowledged. 2 minutes later the hostess showed up and seated me. Sat another 10 minutes at the table before being acknowledged. Waiter ignored me after taking order. Food came. I ordered lamb shank dinner. Left me with a fork and butter knife to cut the lamb shank. Fregula looked and tasted like it came out of a can. Lamb shank was probably the 2nd or 3rd worst I've ever had. Tasteless AND still only had a butter knife to cut it with. I like onion and can many time eat raw or lightly cooked but the onion pearls were very hot and not edible as a vegetable. All drink glasses on the table ran dry and I couldn't get "my" waiter to come over so I could get anything else to drink. Lastly I felt the bathroom was dirty and way below par. That was the final straw. Well until I got outside and had to pay for the parking for such a terrible experience. I definitely would NOT recommend!!!!!

Interesting idea… good execution

By dlongpac |

Playa provisions is a nice restaurant concept in LA. Unfortunately for us- the outside patio needed to be powerwashed and deep cleaned. It smelled of urine and the picnic tables were sticky dirty. The staff was nice and what we had was delicious- hence the 4/5. Go here it’s nice- but please- get a power washer and clean up. Inside including restrooms was fine. Not concerned except for the patio area.

Good for lunch or snacking

By Chelsea |

We stopped by here after a walk along the beach and had a great selection of salads! I was surprised at the setup since it seems upscale from the outside, but we ordered at the counter when we arrived. Totally fine with us, as we love more casual places! We got the salad trio (I think that's what it was called) and they were all great and had good variety. Sit outside to enjoy the sunshine if you can! Good spot.

Wow! Outstanding experience.

By FRKFamily |

Five of us went were in LA for a weekend event. We stopped in for dinner and drinks. What an experience! The place has four sections - a bar, restaurant, deli, and ice cream stand. We tested the bar first. Cozy, attractive, and inviting plus the drinks were really good. Then we experienced the food. My friends were from the northwest and the east coast - meaning they "knew" fish. OMG! The food was excellent. The flavors worked. I don't know what they do in the kitchen but they know what they are doing! Then we tried their ice cream bar. They make their ice cream. The Old Fashioned was like a smooth beverage. The flavors were unique, unlike any other place I have been for ice cream. The location is at the end of Culver Blvd, next to the beach. It's a "gotta go!" place. I understand one of the owners was a finalist on Top Chef.

Happy Hour

By Linda B |

Went with my son and his girlfriend for Happy Hour. It is one of their go to places. The service was very attentive and they had a great selection of local beers.

Yummy, creative food but noise was deafening

By Debra-Lynne T |

Our party of four was excited about trying this new restaurant in our neighborhood. When we were seated at our reserved time, we immediately realized that we would not be able to have a conversation without screaming during the meal. We had to wait another half hour for a table in a side room that had a reasonable sound level. Our party ordered a large number of appetizers, our four entrees with sides and two bottles of wine. Our appetizers were all delicious, especially the lobster roll and calamari. The calamari sauces had a zing! The figs were unusual but a fun change. We each sampled each others' entrees and sides. The chicken was a litle boring but the sandabs were tasty and the seafood louie salad was creatively executed. The preparation of the carrots was unique, making them fun to eat. The wines were nice complements and the server had good knowledge of both selections. We shared a simple but yummy ice-cream based dessert at the end because we had already had too much to eat! We will definitely return but only with a reservation in the quiet side room.

Best "small plates" in the area.

By Robert R |

One of the best beer and small plate restaurants in Los Angeles. Owned by Brook Williamson (winner of Top Chef 2016 season) and her husband, Nick Roberts. Food is imaginative and delicious. One of the great food experiences at reasonable prices in the area. Great selection of beers as well. A gem of a casual restaurant.

Kings Beach Side of the Restaurant for Breakfast

By beetrvln |

Playa Provisions has a few personalities. King Beach is the side which serves breakfast, lunch and Ice Cream in a market style setting and offers outdoor patio seating if you have your dog. Grain is the Whiskey Bar located at the back of the restaurant. Dockside is the fine dining serving seasonal seafood and offers dinner and brunch. Small Batch is the tea and coffee bar and Tripli Kit is a small Culinary store. All of this is a creation of Top Chef Brooke Williamson and her husband. We were headed up to Santa Monica and popped in for a quick pastry and coffee for a light breakfast. We sat inside the King Beach portion of the restaurant and had a latte, pretzel croissant and a scone. The service was fast, which we appreciated for a quick bite. The pretzel croissant had a butter yet salty pretzel flavor and was soft and melted in your mouth delicious. The scone had bacon inside and who doesn't love a little bacon. It was tender in the middle with a bit of a crunch on the outside and was very good. The latte was creamy and smooth. The coffee was not bitter and was perfect. We will be back to try Grain and the restaurant.

Nice Local Cafe

By ymceight |

I love that this place is open for breakfast, has a cute ice cream area with community seating, a small area for gift items and a 2 room sit down restaurant open for lunch and dinner, and a lively full service bar. Dinner for 4 was $102 and included a skirt steak dinner loaded with flavor and cooked to perfection, a plate of 3 crispy tacos, a beefy and tasty Patty Melt, with sides of roasted cauliflower and calamari, and two beers. Tip was extra. All foods are fresh, lightly seasoned, low additional fats added, and served hot in about 15-20 minutes on a jam packed Friday evening. Reservations for dinner are recommended. Valet parking on site is $8.00 but beats searching for a space. Clean and modern decor, pleasant and efficient staff. If I lived nearby this would be my neighborhood go-to bistro.

Breakfast near the beach

By thurstonbow |

I came to Playa Provisions for a healthy and fulfilling breakfast before my hike in Pacific Palisades. I ordered the skillet eggs which were delicious. Parking is tight in the area and we ended up having to valet. There is limited seating inside if you arrive prior to 10 AM. If you are looking for dedicated seating, make a reservation after 10 AM.

Huckleberries?

By ChocolateOrVanilla |

A friend and I stopped by at 9:30 at night for ice cream. The ice cream portion of the restaurant was closed so we ordered the beignets with huckleberries and an anglaise sauce. Spectacular flavor combinations. Brooke Williamson, contestant on Top Chef has opened this awesome restaurant in Playa del Rey... LOVE IT They have done a great job giving you the feeling that you are sitting next to a fire ring on the beach by bringing the outdoor beach feel inside the restaurant

Our favorite

By EMP77 |

This is one of our favorites in LA! Service is great, there's a buzzy atmosphere, they have a great choice of food and drinks. It is a little pricy but you're by the ocean in an affluent neighborhood and the food is worth it.
