Wonderful surprise!

By Carl S. |

I went to Plumeria because it was a friends’ favorite vegetarian/vegan restaurant. I kept stumbling over the fact that that the chicken, duck, etc. was soy based, but the food and flavors were OUTSTANDING!😄 also love the spicy ginger tea! Healthy and delicious is a wonderful surprise. Thanks for letting an omnivore in on the secret.

Out of this World Vegan Thai food!

By 424626 |

This was an incredible surprise and delight! Vegan/Vegetarian options? I can happily enjoy Tom Yum soup without shrimp? Better yet, I can reaaally eat the Satay sticks that are probably even better than the original meat version? I am sold!! The dishes I thoroughly enjoyed were: The Flower Cups (unbelievable--the seasoning blew me away!), Satay (I no longer have to feel left out with my meat eating friends at Thai restaurants!), Zen Soup (like Tom Kah but even better--lotus seeds!--and hearty with brown rice in the soup with beans--just try it!), Tangerine Chicken, Fried Rice, and the Banana Caramel Cheesecake Egg rolls. I must insist that you dive into either the Flower Cups or the Spicy Tuna Salad--it's oh so flavorful, and the Zen Soup--oh so satisfying, especially if you like the acidic taste from Thai food. I look forward to my next visit to try more. Support this gem of a restaurant--the waitresses are very attentive, helpful, and the food is beyond delicious and healthy. What more could you ask for?!

A vegetarian dream come true

By SheryC |

A friend took me here and it was some of the best vegetarian food I have had in most of my travels. Great service, lots of options and prepared well. Yummy

Just plain good!

By matcait |

Agree with other reviews that this is a very good restaurant whether or not you like vegetarian or not. Great food for a reasonable price in a quaint area of town. Nice atmosphere. No negatives. We ate there twice on our visit and plan to return on our next visit👍

Plumeria a great restaurant

By Alexander s |

The food was great very fresh no concerns and the service wasn't to bad and has a great vibe to the place I would defently recommend it

Worth the visit

By Beto L |

We were looking for a place to eat light food, maybe some salads. What better place than a vegetarian restaurant. The service was very friendly, and the quality of the food was amazing. I had the Ka Pow. Rally tasty and fresh. The noodles were tender, the veggies crunchy, and the veggie duck was surprisingly good, for a guy that actually eats meat. This was a great find.

Thai Vegetarian Restaurant with amazing food!

By Deborah B |

Enjoyed dinner here with a friend upon her recommendation. It is a rather small space divided into a couple of dining areas. The menu is extensive offering an array of Thai dishes in vegetarian and vegan styles. There are starters, greens, entrees, noodles, “chef’s specials” and desserts. The food was delicious and spiced with proper “heat” to order as is typical for a Thai place. There is beer and wine, sake, and “soft drinks”, both Thai and American. My only complaint is the demeanor of the initial hostesses. I was given the evil eye when I explained I did not know if we had a reservation. I tried to offer my friend’s name and the time we were meeting but got nowhere. There were a few empty tables in both areas. Since they were not interested in looking for a potential reservation and I remained standing in the tiny entrance, I asked if I could sit at one of the window tables. After an exchange of words between the two staff I was allowed to do so and a menu was plunked in front of me. The beverage server was quite nice and brought me a glass of wine immediately and without issue. Once my friend arrived the servers warmed up a bit. I would have given 5 stars otherwise. Even though the mango sticky rice (my go-to for a Thai dessert) was just so- so. Regardless, I’ll be back WITH a reservation!

Excellent vegan options

By Golokseeker |

Very good place for a healthy and tasty meal. Food was very tasteful and great presentation. Great vegan options. We ordered the curries which were recommended. The sticky rice with mango dessert was delicious! We ate here twice. We had a much better service the first time, during late lunch hours. The waitstaff seemed a little rushed and impersonal in the evening. Excellent service in the more quiet hours. Parking was difficult. Reservations in the evening recommended. Would come back!

Very very good Vegetarian Thai!

By Melissa K |

I had the tangerine with crispy vegan chicken and it was so delicious! The whole table tried mine and loved it! My husband got the pad thai. He rated it an 4/5. Overall very good and would recommend it to anyone!

Food so good - vegetarian and delicious

By Doris P |

This is the second time eating there and is always busy and always so yummy. Had Rama. Everyone had something different so we got to taste different dishes. You would really think you're eating meat/fish/chicken - buy you're not. Very healthy eating.

Vegetarian Thai!

By EvaDickstein |

The food was terrific, and I could order anything on the menu because it's a vegetarian restaurant. We shared two dishes--the Tangerine and the Rama. My favorite was the Tangerine, and both dishes were served with brown rice. Each dish was $10.75. It was very difficult to find a parking spot, though.

Awesome food

By Nithya N |

One of the best restaurants we have been to. Great food and service. Loved their Tom Yum soup especially.

Great food, Great pice

By Jeffree I |

I needed to find a local restaurant that served either seafood or vegetarian dishes for a friend in town that I had not seen in 25 years. Plus we both needed a gluten free menu and didn't want it to be terribly expensive. I looked around and stumbled up Plumeria in the University Heights area. What a find! Judging from the many people also dining there it clearly was a local favorite. We ordered the Tom Kah and Tom Yum soups, one for each of us. Heaven. Followed up with a plate Larb made with tofu, and an entree made of eggplant, bell pepper, bamboo shoots, and fresh basil in red curry sauce. Plus brown rice on the side. It was actually too much food for us, but of course that didn't stop us from eating almost all of it. We forewent dessert even though the options sounded divine. Would I go back? Absolutely! would return in a heartbeat and try their other options.

Our Favorite

By Rob&MostlyVee |

This is easily our favorite restaurant in San Diego. They have a great variety of “meat options” and each dish we have tried is full of flavor. I don’t have any photos because we can’t wait to dig in every time we’ve ordered.

If you are vegan you'll love it.

By traveltheworldcs |

I really enjoyed this restaurant as I am vegan. It's the first restaurant I've been too where there were so many wonderful choices for vegans. This restaurant is always packed and the food is excellent. Try many plates and share. It's more enjoyable this way.

The closest thing to authentic Thai - if not better.

By Steve O |

The Tom Yum soup was great (especially without the fish sauce). The flower cups were incredible! We had the Spicy Basil, the Cashew Nut & the Pineapple fried rice & they were excellent. After 3 weeks in Thailand, we were hesitant to try this place, but it was actually as good, if not better than the restaurants in Thailand. Great service & great food. We look forward to discovering new dishes on our next visit.

Vegetarian Delight

By Juan R |

This is a vegetarian Thai restaurant in lovely Univetsity Park area of San Diego, We had the satay combo skewers,Tom Yum soup, Duck Eggplant Red Curry and the Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken , all of its tofu protein imitation, the flavors were amazing and textures were great, the chicken skewers and the pineapple chicken friend rice were my favorites

True Thai

By Steve L |

Excellent service and amazing food. We were staying in La Jolla and made the drive to this restaurant and it was well worth it! Makes me want to move back to San Diego!

Vegan success

By maidele |

This Thai vegan restaurant has such fabulous food, one forgets that its vegan. I am not a vegan and eat meat. When I eat here,I forget that its not real meat or fish. Great food, service and lovely ambience. Don't hesitate to try it!

Wonderful!

By iliketotravel123 |

Four friends visited Plumeria and we all were so impressed the service wasGREAT! and the food was amazing. Two of us had the ginger sautéed dish. I had mine with mixed beans and it was delicious. Two had the Rama and raved about it. All the meals came with rice and were sooo flavorful. The portions are huge so be prepared to take some home. We highly recommend Plumeria.

Wow

By Patricia Z |

Really good food. The mock duck tasted to me exactly like meat and i had to ask our waiter if this is certainly not a real duck. During my visit the restaurant was packed and i could tell that people were enjoying their meals. I highly recommend trying it.

Delicious vegan friendly

By ntsandiego |

Great location and great food. Parking was challenging on a Sunday evening, but the food is worth it. Will definitely be back to try more

Great place even for non vegetarians

By Dindu |

Food is really tasty and fresh. Plenty of choices to suit all taste. Portions are good. Would go back. Wifi available.

I'm not vegetarian, and I love this place

By Zen-Diego |

My wife and I are not vegetarians but we really like this place. The first time we ate here I didn't even realize the meat was not meat. I strongly recommend the duck. We usually get the spicy noodles or one of the currys. Either way if your not vegetarian and you are concerned about missing out on anything, the only thing you will miss is the delicious tasting food this place serves if you don't choose to eat here. The only problem is finding parking.

Tasty Vegetarian Food

By John M |

This is a small restaurant in the University district. Because it's small and busy in the evenings, the sound level is fairly high. However, the food is excellent and wonderfully seasoned. They use organic ingredients when available. The curries and deserts are especially good. I would recommend making a reservation during peak times.

Awesome food

By Tejash P |

Awesome veg food and that too Thai cuisine. Parking is a little more than a challenge but manageable. Food is awesome and very reasonably priced.

I'm not a vegetarian, but Plumeria makes me want to be one.

By Ariel A |

Plumeria's selection of food is so fresh and still very flavorful at the same time. I have several friends whom are vegetarian and its always so hard to find the perfect spot for a meal that is fresh, suitable for vegetarians, plus still very delicious. I'm so happy to have come across Plumeria's excellent ratings, because that is exactly what attracted me to trying their menu. You will not be disappointed with whatever you choose! Everything is excellent! -Ariel

Great food!

By Mark E |

I'm not a usual fan of Thai food. But this place is really good. Place gets busy so make reservations. Friendly staff. Food arrived quickly. Very fresh and tasty. Plus so healthy! I will return.

Hidden Gem Thai Joint

By Travelling_Piyush |

Ambience: Cosy and clean Food quality: A+ (extra points for Vegan food) Taste: Reminds me of home cooked food Service: Same as 5-star restaurants! Cost: Great value for money I am surprised why Plumeria doesn’t get the coverage or the ratings that some other places get. We ordered Yum Woon Sen (perfect balance of components), Rolls, Pad Thai Veg (great flavors), and Cashew fried curry (great balance of ingredients and amazing flavors) If I come back to San Diego, I am visiting them again!

Delicious Vegan Thai food.

By Girija Muralidharan |

We were pleasantly surprised to visit this vegan Thai food restaurant.Soup to dessert every item was mouth-watering. We ordered soup, starters and 4 different dishes. The quantity was just perfect for the four of us to share. Tofu was very fresh and soft. The staff was very cordial . It is a small place but people throng this restaurant. It is worth a visit to this place when you are in San Diego specially for vegetarians.

My favorite restaurant!

By FussyLiz |

I hate tofu, but love the faux meat at this Thai vegan/vegetarian restaurant. My meat eating husband says that he doesn't miss meat when eating at this restaurant and would be happy to be a vegetarian if he could always eat here. Only drawback is the difficult parking situation.

Fantastic Vegetarian Food

By TRAVELBAG40 |

Dined here with friends at their recommendation. So glad I did. As a meat eater I do enjoy occasional meal with out meat but if I lived in San Diego I'd eat here a lot more. The food was amazing. The tuna and mock duck appetisers were delicious. I followed this with the spicy noodles with mock duck (couldn't get enough!) Perfect plate of food, served piping hot and taste was fantastic. Drink menu is limited however a bottle of Chardonnay was fine. Service was friendly and attentive. A great evening with great food and great friends.

One of our favorites

By fred g |

We've eaten at Plumeria several times and have always loved it. The staff is friendly, even when they're super busy with a line out the door. It pays to have a reservation, especially at the weekend. The food is absolutely delicious! With very fresh ingredients and well seasoned.

Vegetarian Thai

By catchyginger |

Checked out this place on a Saturday night. We did not have reservations, so there was a 30 minute wait. Just went to a different bar for a quick drink and awaited their call. Upon being seated, we waited what seemed like a long time for a server. The server was nice enough and made some recommendations. We started with the Thai Samosas. This was light and flaky with a good combo of veggies inside. The sauce was sweet and tangy. Overall, quite tasty. I also had the Tom Kha soup. This had a nice flavor to it. This was probably my favorite of the things we had. We then had the See-Ew for dinner. This was somewhat disappointing. It was heavy on the pepper and I did not care so much for the sauce. I had the imitation duck at the servers recommendation. This was way too salty for my liking. I really like this dish at other Thai restaurants, but it was just not that good here. I guess I miss having it with real chicken. We also had the tangerine entree. This was a bit to heavily fried for my liking. The sauce was overly sweet. Not gonna recommend this one. The appetizers were good, but I thought the entrees were just average. In full disclosure, I am a carnivore. Perhaps this place is great for vegetarians, but the entrees just did not work for me.

hostile, mediocre food

By iloveicies |

The service was off-putting. I'm not sure if it was because it was near close, but the servers seemed a bit hostile. We also saw them mocking a customer after he walked away. Our entrees were mediocre, it's a really long menu, so maybe there are some good things in there? Larb or spicy basil were not that impressive. The appetizer plate was good, as was mango sticky rice. I've had better versions of this stuff, seems overrated.

Great experience!

By tantrika16 |

Being a vegetarian for over 30 years, I can definitely say that this is one of the best veggie meals ( and Thai food) I've had so far...everything is freshly made, tastes delicious, healthy and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is pleasant, a little small but cozy. Prices are so reasonable and the staff is very friendly. Plumeria is a place that everyone can enjoy, whether you're vegetarian or not.

Mmmmmmm

By S R |

I go here as often as I can. The food is delicious, even if you're not a vegetarian (you'd probably never know the difference anyway) I've never had a dish I didn't like, and I CRAVE their Zen soup. The staff is friendly, and the place is well decorated and clean. Highly recommend.

Party in your mouth!

By Gloria A |

Parking is tough but once u actually get to sit and eat you have to order the flower cups!!! Lucky for me they was only like 6/7 bc I prob would have eaten a million😀 Their samosas were good too! My husband ordered pineapple rice which he loved. I had a salad w Thai peanut dressing. I would ask for the dressing on the side bc they put way too much for my liking but overall everything we ate was amazing. Staff was SUPER friendly!

San Diego Vegetarian/Vegan Gem

By Trummerflute |

Ok, Vegan travelers, rejoice! another exquisite San Diego restaurant for us! If you like Thai food, check this out. I just tried Plumeria yesterday for lunch. What a shocker! I love Thai food, but I'm never really sure that the chefs understand "no fish sauce." I usually have to stick to simply stir-fry. However, here, the are so many vegan choices! Plus, you have your choice of tofu (steamed or fried), and various seitan forms of mock chicken, mock beef, even mock pork (???). We shared the pepper tofu and the pumpkin curry, with mock chicken spiced at a 5. I was in heaven! The curry was fragrant, flavorful, heavenly, perfectly spiced, the vegetables cooked without mushing them, and the cute star-shaped brown-white rice made for a delightful meal. Upscale ambience, impeccable service.

Mock Thai

By groupwww |

The vegans in our group were very pleased, the rest of us less so. The red curry was okay but the yellow curry was better. The stars of the show were the little crispy star cups which are greatly improved by the cucumber sauce. The noodles were pasty and tasteless, the Thai rice was delicious and spicy even at a mild level, and the salads worth skipping. The mock chicken had a weird texture but maybe that’s the nature of the beast?

Best Thai food I've had in a relatively long and well-lived life

By Trishka-9 |

Solid 5/5 stars! Exceptionally friendly, attentive service and delicious, flavorful food - my favorite meal in three weeks in San Diego. I had the chikn satay, pad thai with veggies and the phenomenal Crispy Tofu Tamarind - the perfect amount of sticky, squishy and chewy. Plenty of food for several meals - although I gluttonously polished off an inadvisable amount in the first sitting because it was so freakin' good. And I never say freakin'!! Loads of clearly-labelled vegan and gluten-free items on the menu. Regrettably I made a tactical error in saving Plumeria for my last day, as I don't normally get this excited about Thai food, otherwise there would've been repeat visits for sure. Indoor and outdoor seating.

excellent!

By JDZatSF |

This is a great place in a cool neighborhood! Everything we had here was wonderful, including the food, service, presentation, decor, etc. The only problem was that I was so relaxed and happy that I ate too much of the yummy food.

We cannot wait to go back!!

By Charity A |

A lovely place. Excellent service. (They were very professional & sweet when my 2 year old dumped a full glass of water!) Amazing food (incl deserts!) & about 1/2 the price that I expected!

Surprisingly tasty and cheap

By JOtterDPT |

I am not a vegetarian and when I scheduled a group dinner at this restaurant I was happy to see they had fish., I did not read the small print since it was TOFU Fish. That worried me but the atmosphere is great and my group of around twenty professionals were enjoying themselves with a nice drink (they serve alcohol). All members of the group ordered something different and the portionsof most meals and tastes blew my mind. The fish tofu was actually good and the peanut suace skewers t(tifu chicken) fantastic.

The food tastes great well worth the wait!

By Loren778899 |

We went out of the way to eat Thai food here as we heard it was great. It lived up to its billing. Loved the food.

Great place to eat!

By Tamara P |

The food was great, the decor was great and the service was great. The owner was really nice and took the time to show me the lighting fixtures that I had been admiring.

Best Vegetarian / Fusion in San Diego!

By KrishnaBalaram |

Despite it being the year 2017, it can still be very difficult to find good vegetarian food outside of the Indian spice palette in a restaurant. Many of tried. Most have failed. Not true with Plumeria. We have now been there several times and tried many of their menu options. Every single one of them have been incredible. If you plan to stop in, have your dish with mock Duck (crispy style)-you won't be disappointed. The spicy noodle, tangerine, and eggplant curry are all great options. Again, I have tried several vegetarian restaurants in San Diego and, other than Indian, this is the only one that has really good food. Great experience. Great ambience. We usually call for a reservation, even if we do not need one, because this place can get busy, sometimes with 45 minute waits. The only negative I have found is that they offer creme bruleee on the menu, but in the dozen or so times I have been they do not have it. When I ask about it, they say they actually do carry it, but when pressed, the wait staff tend to slowly back away and not say when they actually do have it. Given all the positives of this restaurant, I can overlook this small transgression.

This is vegetarian?

By Mateo33305 |

A small the welcoming place for the new amazing menu with something for everybody. You will not believe this is all vegetarian the flavors are phenomenal

Great food ~ spotty service

By KennethPatrick |

Have been here many times and am always happy with the food. The menu is varied without being confusing or overwhelming. The prices are reasonable and the portions are perfect for me. The service is abrupt sometimes and good sometimes ~ would not say the service has ever been great. In my estimation, there is too much focus on turning the tables swiftly. And getting someone's attention can be a challenge. Again, great food ~ spotty service.

Superb Thai Food

By blafaver |

I found out about this place on the Vegan Diego site, and we tried it last Saturday night. We always try basil Thai fried rice at every Thai restaurant because we so enjoyed that dish when we lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. Plumeria did not disappoint--their basil friend rice was the best we have every hadI We also had a lovely noodle dish with "duck". The place was packed, and it was a little difficult to find a place to park, but it was all worth it. We will definitely be returning regularly to this restaurant.

My Favorite San Diego Restaurant, Hands Down

By DermDude1 |

Taste. Presentation. Combination. Creativity. Flavor. Freshness. Listen, I can type an hour-long dissertation here on the food, but suffice it to say, this is a very, very good restaurant. It has a funky college-age hippie attempt at decor and attitude that is both relaxed and friendly. Just had the Pumpkin dish that is their specialty with the mock duck--no regrets there. They lean heavily on the Thai side of life, but regardless, you will wonder why in the world you ever eat steak and chicken (boooooooooooring) when you go out. Get a new perspective in life and live on the edge and you will break out of the usual restaurant stupor: eat at Plumeria!

Terrific Vegetarian food

By Shanker B |

Stopped here for dinner with family. We stopped by around 8:30 PM - the place was packed. we were seated within 5 minutes. Since Kitchen closes at 9 PM - we had to give all our orders in 1 go. we got crispy spring rolls and a couple of soups (tom kha gai and tom yum). my son had the duck noodle soup, I had the spicy noodles with duck and my wife had the kapow with tofu. excellent flavors and heat. highly recommended.

Very good vegetarian food

By Rebecca D |

Good food and service. Recommend the mock tuna flower cups and larb with the mock duck. Drunken noodle is also very good.

Plumeria is great for veggies and non veggies alike

By Sara |

First only one of our four are vegetarians. We all really enjoyed our dishes. Service was great and fast. Place nice but small, has outside seating. I had the spicy noodles with “duck”, veggie daughter duck, not real duck, LARB, another had the tangerine “duck” which was outrageously good, a finally “beef” Rama, all great. Large portions, very fair prices.

Yummo!

By Penny B |

If you're in the mood for fantastic Vegan Asian food, your in luck.. your gonna love this place. I did! A fantastic selection of vegetarian/vegan Asian traditional and and fusion dishes, with amazing mock meats ( which I don't normally eat, but figured I'd give it a try) We had the spicy, basil rice with " Shrimp " which not only tasted like shrimp but looked like it to, eggplant stir fry, and spicy wide noodles with " chicken " We were not disappointed, every dish was delicious and nicely presented. This is a must try!

Worth Returning

By WorthRemembering? |

Great food! Excited to eat my left overs today!! I am Vegan and so excited to have many choices. I enjoyed the spicy noodles with vegan chicken. It was delicious and just what I hoped for.? I got a medium 4/10 spice. It was spicy but delicious!!!

So yummy i want just a bit more smiles please

By Loremarti |

Well this restaurant is one of the top vegan restaurants in San Diego for me !!!! Is just delicious and everything is so fresh!!! There is nothing I would change when it comes to their food for it is amazing ... although if there is something I would change would be the attitude of the servers I would definitely put a hint of cariama on top of those pretty faces, connecting with customers is so key in business specially in the food business, food is about the experience and I just kind of felt like they could not wait to be done and go home ... and I get it it was the night shift and all one wants is to go home but is always nice to keep that smile till the end of the day and make the experience more remarkable that was the only reason I did not give them a 5

Great noodles

By waterbum1971 |

Seriously good. Def in it rly some follow on is good I recommend it for a good time with a great meal

Excellent food

By JarmC |

Wonderful food, vegetarian and vegan dishes. My kids enjoyed the food and we did not even realize the meal was vegan, the chicken flavored tofu was SO good. Definitely worth the trip!

Excellent food, outstanding service

By Cathy Sandiego W |

We ordered the combo satay skewers, Tom kha soup, pad Thai, and tangerine chicken. Everything was amazing. Great texture, superb flavor. Definitely the best vegetarian Thai restaurant we have eaten at. Plus the Thai iced tea may be the best we have ever had-- including those we had in Thailand. On top of the amazing food, the service was incredible. Everyone was friendly, informative, and helpful. On a busy Friday night, our water glasses were never empty-- and refilled at least 5 times. Outstanding restaurant. Highest recommendation.

Fantastic

By robinjk3 |

I read the reviews and was anxious to give this place a try. I have returned already 4 x since. The quality of the food and flavors are both excellent. Great variety of choices as well. My favorite dish is the larb salad with lamb (vegetarian) but have really liked every single dish I have tried. The wonton appetizers and spring rolls were delicious. Also tried the eggplant and curry. The spices are amazing and a #4 heat was perfect for me, good kick but not burning so bad you can still taste the flavors of the food. This is now one of my favorite restaurants! It will NOT disappoint>

Exceptionally fresh and Healthy

By Jdicarlowagner |

We've taken to meatless dishes, and Plumeria makes that such an easy transition with their faux crispy duck. Don't forget to get the vegan wraps with creamy tofu or the best deep fried banana in the city! We share a meal because the portions are generous. We find them to be consistently excellent.

Discovered this jewel through Tripadvisor

By Mr Q |

We read the reviews on great Tripadvisor and Yelp and decided we had to try it. Our crowdsourcing of restaurants paid off. The food was shockingly good, flavorful and fresh. The menu is 99% vegan and the staff is friendly and helpful. The location is small so be prepared to be seated close to another table. Better yet, grab one of the three outdoor tables. The satay skewers are awesome. We could not get enough. The most pleasant surprise came at the end: the bill. The prices are very reasonable, even dare I say cheap. Great value and a great vegan option.

Awesome Thai Food!

By Abhilasha B |

I am have visited Plumeria thrice in a month! It serves amazing Thai Food. Being a vegetarian I get lot of options here. The spicy Thai Noodles remains my favourite!

I'm a convert!

By Neil R |

"I really can't taste the difference" said my picky son. And he was right. Banished to vegan land by my cardiologist, I was dreading my first venture to a vegetarian restaurant. But the Asian dishes (notably Thai) were terrific. Lots of salads, curries and noodle dishes with choice of proteins, Tom Ka and Tom Yum soups, even (mock) chicken skewers for the unadventurous- all delicious. I'm not a lover of tofu, but with peanut sauce and my eyes closed it was very tasty. Big portions, very good service. Save a seat for me!

Best Vegetarian Food & Staff

By Richard P |

While I didn't check that this was one of the best meals ever in a restaurant it is definitely one of the better and I am 73 so have eaten in quite a few restaurants. I am not a vegetarian but think healthy food is great and the atmosphere, while a bit noisy, was made homey & very comfortable by the very friendly wait staff. All three dishes our group had were excellent -- so try anything. Our group of four started with shared tasty Flower Cups. My wife and I had the Cashew Nut and daughter Pumpkin Curry. Food is accurately adjusted for spiciness (I like a bit and my wife likes none) and so tasty. My granddaughter talked me into sharing the Sticky Rice with Coconut (we went vegan) and it capped off an excellent meal. Someone read that the price was a bit high but a complete meal was only $38 for four - to me a verrrry good value.

Expected much more

By GustavoOrtegaJ |

I´red that this is the "Best Vegan Thai" in SD. First of all is not a vegan restaurant. It is another Thai restaurant. Period. Ambiance below average, talking about the best restaurants in town, No parking, had to walk two blocks to get there, at least some exercise, ordered as starters a Chicken Stay, usually is grilled, this was pan fried. Seaweed salad, was so so, ordered a Zen Soup, never arrived. The entrees were good Pumpking Curry was excellent. Wife ordered Rama veggies, were nice, nothing special. Options for beverages very short. We ordered a Pinot Grigio, cheap.

Great food. Great service.

By Lynda R |

I have ordered many items on the menu and all have been great. The staff is extremely friendly. Many non- vegetarian friends really enjoy this place. if you know anyone with food allergies, this is the place to meet. There is something on the menu for all.

Super Fresh!

By Timothy F |

Everything was SUPER FRESH, not too spicy, and delicious! Give this place a try for sure! Try the iced black tea with leche, the soups and the Satay!

Super choice for vegetarians!

By Avi |

We were recommended this restaurant by a friend who stays in San Diego. As vegetarians, we could not have asked for a better start to our stay in San Diego. The place has plenty of tasty options on the menu and I can only recommend that you try the fried rice and cashew curry.

Good Spice!

By Chris M |

I like spicy food, a lot, but 6/10 was hot enough! Good choice, good for vegetarian. Spicy Noodles with Tofu was ace.

Totally Disgusting! Deceitful!

By Indiana_Jonesse |

My friend and I were walking in the neighborhood and debating whether we will dine here or across the street (which was also a Thai cuisine). We decided here and I regret. We dined sat on the outside tables and since I have not seen my friend in a couple of years, we were busy talking and not paying attention to the prices in the menu. At the end of our meal, I thought our bill was high. But I did not want to be embarrassed checking out the price so I handed my credit card. I also gave a generous tip. I kept the receipt and a few days later, I perused the receipt and mind you, we paid for someone else’s bill with 4 guests! There were only two of us. I am so disappointed as this is very dishonest. Do not trust this establishment. I wonder how often they do this to other innocent diners. They probably can spot someone talking a lot and not paying attention. My friend and I were trying to catch up visiting and talking. Never again!

Excellent

By Lord Clifford Hume |

Great choice of vegetarian dishes. Full of flavour and attentive staff. All that and reasonably priced too.

Great find!

By CJones91 |

So lovely to go to a vegetarian restaurant and be able to choose anything off the menu. Lovely Thai food. I chose medium spice but it was really hot! So be warned if you're a little sensitive to those sorts of tastes! I could have done with a little more rice but I got plenty of curry and it's reasonably priced.

Vegan, vegetarian & GF options

By Helen K |

I'd been wanting to try this place for quite a while so when a friend asked if I wanted to check it out I jumped at the opportunity. I didn't realize it was Thai cuisine but I love Thai so I was happy about that. Nice menu with well-defined options and you can define your level of heat. Service was good and the entree was piping hot and tasty.

Exceptional Thai

By Challenger007 |

Exceptional Thai food lives here. Outrageous flavors and textures that I would stack up against the best version of Larb, Penang, Som Tom, See Ew anywhere on the planet. Forget that it’s Vegetarian or Vegan. You wouldn’t know if you didn’t know. Frizzled “duck” or crispy tempura “chicken”???? I beg you to show me a better version (tasty animals or not). For the meat eating crowd, don’t worry. Every dish is so satisfying you won’t realize you’re being a friend to the environment or going meatless. You will embrace mock meat forevermore....If you’re vegan or vegetarian, you’ll be swooning over every dish and blabbing “uh huh I told ya so” to your skeptical judgy family or friends. And finally, I don’t know how anyone could rate this excellent restaurant below five stars. It might take a while for the silly silly sexist review to drop down a few notches from the top, but look away in the meantime. It’s strange and it’s weird to expect a smile from someone you don’t know. Would you ask a man to smile? Nope. Because that’s creepy. Isn’t it enough to have professional service, lovely food, pretty carotene hued rice stars, a rainbow of healthy herbs and vegetables and dine so fine? I’d like to think so.

very good Thai food

By Tony C |

We wandered into Plumeria when our original destination was too crowded and we were delighted by the food and service. Their sign says "vegetarian," but real chicken is an option in some dishes. Everything we ordered was excellent, and the service was attentive. I'd never had the bua loy dessert before, despite many trips to Thailand. It was wonderful! Better than any of the Thai restaurants we've tried in Hillcrest. Prices were reasonable. The only drawback is limited street parking.

Amazing food and excellent service

By BeachGrrrrrl |

Wow, this place was great. We loved our food, so happy, we wish we lived in California so we could eat here every week.

Outstanding

By escapeartist49 |

Plumeria was a delicious surprise! It’s a vegetarian/vegan restaurant (I am neither btw) run by a Thai family. My friend and I shared the crispy tofu appetizer (with 2 sauces, sweet and hot)- perfect! As was my Zen Soup: creamy coconut milk, brown rice, beans, carrots and a little spice. Wonderfully balanced and seasoned. Loved the service and the food.

It was actually really good

By Santana T R |

My wife doesn't eat meat so we decided to give this place a chance because of the good reviews and we're glad we did because we loved everything we ordered. The curry was pretty spicy but it had a great flavor. We'll definitely be back next time we're in San Diego.

Food was delicious, unfortunately the service received ruined it

By Chloé Z |

Very interesting restaurant on a quality/price basis. Food was delicious and impressive variety. Unfortunately, the service that we received ruined it. Its disapointing because we were really excited about this experience. Our bill was brought to us before we had finish our first plate, the staff came back three times to let us know that we had to pay (it was not even 11pm). we also ordered a bottle of wine and only had the time to drink half of it. Nobody warned us about closing hours. We ended up rushing to leave. I dont usually leave comments but this was a very frustrating ending...

Neat!

By PnH24 |

This is a neat and cozy place. The appetizers are very delicious. The service is good, the variety good. Overall, a great place and a must visit if you are a vegetarian.

Delicious Vegetarian/Vegan food

By Marlene Z |

The atmosphere on Park Blvd. is lovely and welcoming. The food is imaginative and tasty. The service was pretty good (had to ask a second time for more water). My vegan and vegetarian friends love this place which is why I tried it...

Amazing vegetarian Thai dishes

By mcneilfe |

We are always looking for interesting restaurants offering an unique twist on cuisines of the world and this Plumeria in the University Heights area definitely fit the bill. They serve a variety of Thai dishes with or without mock meat made from soy. Surprisingly, the dishes we tried, all with mock meat, were excellent! Service was prompt and satisfactory.

Great experience

By John S |

Fortunately we had made reservation for the 6 members of our family for 6.30pm , because we may not have been able to eat at that time if we hadn't. The restaurant appears to also have a busy take out trade so you would expect a long wait for meals, however this was not the case. Our orders were taken within 10 minutes of being seated, and our meals arrived within 15 minutes. Every entree can be served on a spice rating of 0 - 10, where 0 has no spice and I guess 10 will blow your hat off. We found that even ratings of 2-3 were quite spicy so be careful if you don't like extra spicy food. We felt the meal was reasonably however an 18% service charge was added automatically to the bill, and you were then given the option of adding a further tip. We're not quite sure what the service charge was if it wasn't the tip ?

Great food

By TRAVELBAG40 |

First visited here 3 yrs ago and when back in SD it was on our must eat again list. Food was still excellent and I'm still amazed it's meat free as you wouldn't think it. The vegetarian duck was great as before and so we're the Thai rolls I had for appetizers my only qualm was I felt the meal was rushed, entrees shouldn't appear until the appetizers are finished with but I find this happens often in the USA more and more.

Great food, quick service

By John P |

This is an excellent vegetarian restaurant. The menu is extensive, and the restaurant has an interesting system. You choose a meal, and then there are options for various sorts of protein. The best is the mock duck. If you get a mild meal (which I did the first time) it's good, but if you ask them to add some spice and make it hotter it's much better. The second time I ate there I went with a 6 (out of 10), and it was significantly more flavorful. The pad thai is a bit too sweet for my tastes, but the veg green curry is the best I've ever had. Staff is friendly and very efficient. I ate with six others when the restaurant was packed and people were waiting at the door, and we had our food in under ten minutes. And it was surprisingly inexpensive: a main meal was $9.

Superb

Great atmosphere and food. Didn't miss the meat one bit. Food is tasty with optimal portion size, great service top

A diamond of a find!

By Melissa B |

We stumbled across Plumeria with the help of trip advisor and we are glad we did! There is only one word to describe our dining experience and that is “incredible”!! We tried the Thai iced tea (which was delicious!), the flower cup appetizer, vegetarian spring rolls with peanut sauce and the garlic edamame... and everything was fantastic! Definitely our favourite dining experience of the trip and we ate at a lot of great places. They catered well to our dietary restrictions and we were amazed that the protein used as the chicken substitute tasted exactly like chicken!

This is my go-to take out!

By Tanya K |

Just around the corner, this has become my go-to take out food. The staff is super friendly and the food is fresh and light. I love the curries!

Wonderful find, fantastic flavor

By Jim G |

We enjoyed a quiet and efficiently served vegetarian dinner at Plumeria. Tangerine Duck, Garlic Pepper Broccoli, and Cheese Wantons were all wonderful. It is a smaller, quite space that was not overly crowded early Friday evening ~5:30. We were seated immediately without a reservation. Staff were efficient and worked well as a team to serve and refill drinks, bring food, check in on us, etc. Parking (street) is a bit of a challenge but on par for the area.

Delicious and addicted!

By Nichol S |

I have probably eaten here 4-5 times in the last month. I am addicted to the Spicy Basil Fried Rice with Veggies. The food is fresh and always good. A friend ordered a dish with "beef" in it and she loved it. Couldnt even tell it wasnt the real thing.

Wonderful Food!

By Nomad1431 |

Pros: Terrific food. 100% vegetarian. Mock meats but authentic Thai taste. 10/10 would want to visit again. Cons: Parking was a hassle.

YUM vegetarian Thai

By hemangjshah |

Plumeria is an excellent restaurant in Park Blvd. We've tried all dishes but my favorite here remains the Yellow curry. I recommend taking it a bit easy on the spice levels here.

hard to believe it's 100% vegetarian

By serranito |

delicious food, very tasty an friendly service. We had two dishes with mock duck and they were both amazing. The appetizers are ask delicious.

Very good vegan thai food

By Daniel B |

All vegan thai food. The duck larb and tom kha were excellent! The flower cups and spicy noodles were good as well. We loved that jackfruit was a protein option.

Vegan and vegetarian options

Yummy eatery with plant based and vegetarian options! Yummy chinese food, I loved the plant-based flavored "orange chicken".

Such an amazing dinner in a great place!

By Giorgio D |

We jumped into our phones to search for a place to have dinner at that could turn out to be a good choice and decided that this place had enough positive reviews for that. My friends and I chose a variety of flavors to try different things that looked interesting in the menu and were positively impacted by how good the food was. I recommend this place if you want to visit a relaxing atmosphere while enjoying exotic vegetarian meal options.

Wonderful experience

By TCKtraveler8 |

Flower cups as appetizers. Crispy and flavorful mock duck with veggies, and brown rice molded in a star shaped mound. Incredibly tasty, eaten at a table out on the sidewalk in the sunshine with a flowering plumeria nearby. I loved it all. My fellow diners said to skip the eggplant dish--that it's too dry. But for me, it was perfect.

Worth the visit

By dushenkandrew |

Perfect for non vegetarian friends who like Thai food. Perfect for a dressy dinner date. Perfect for my diet. Perfect .

Love that it's Vegan!

By Sooz C |

We had one of the best meals ever here! Ordered the spicy noodles and the mixed vegetables entrees. The wine list could use a few more choices in my opinion. But we would definitely come back!

Excellent vegan Thai food

By KJM02 |

Excellent vegan Thai food. All of the sauces were better than most of the other Thai restaurants around and all vegetables were fresh. I enjoyed the fish and seafood substitutes, too. Service was professional and courteous. The room was cozy and inviting.

Great vegan and vegetarian food!

By Jim B |

One of our favorite places to take visitors from out of town! Vast selection of items on the menu. The Green Coconut Curry is one of our favorites. Small but intimate location with outdoor seating. Prices are very reasonable. Even the meat eater in your party will find many things to enjoy, as the mock meats are extremely well done! Soooo tasty!

Great food and atmosphere

By Cindy S |

Pad Thai was not the best I’ve had but the yellow curry was delicious. And the crispy rolls too. Staff was friendly. Patrons too.

Delicious vegetarian/vegan restaurant

By Emily W |

Visited Plumeria with family and friends for lunch and had the pad thai with chicken flavored tofu. Best meal i have had where they prepared the tofu to taste and feel like the real texture of chicken. Everyone else ordered a multitude of other meals and they were all very happy with what they got. The flowers cups got a special review for 2- 2.5 year olds. 5 stars!

Perhaps the best restaurant I have ever been to....

By Bx720 |

Title says it all really. Amazing vegetarian food that we just don't see at home in Wales. I'm so glad we made the trek across San Diego to sample it. The food was incredible, all 3 courses of it. Service was extremely attentive. Recommend the chicken satay to start. It was the best I've ever tasted. Really busy, we didn't book but I would advise doing so. Wish I lived here. I would go again and again!!

Lovely Ambiance, People and Food

By Lori C |

Lovely interior and menu to match. A friend of mine and I shared a wonderful fresh summer salad dressed with fresh limes and chopped nuts. We also shared a yellow curry potato, carrot and tofu dish complimented by both brown and white sticky rice. There are so many fresh choices it was hard to decide. The waitress was so sweet and really made us comfortable. Orange slices in the water was a nice touch, not to mention the plumeria theme throughout the restaurant. I can't wait to go back.

Delicious Red Curry

By ItaliaGirl13 |

My first time eating here, the waiter helped me choose what to order. I love so many vegetarian choices. I ordered the red curry with vegetables and brown rice, spice level 4. It was just a touch spicy and I could still taste the spices. Definitely coming back!

Terrific vegetarian restaurant

By DJinTX |

I took my Mom (an omnivore) here when I came to San Diego to visit her. I am a vegetarian and I wanted to take her someplace where we would both be happy with our meals. Even though my Mom is an omnivore, she really enjoyed her meal, and I absolutely loved mine. I ordered the Spring rolls as an appetizer, and they were very tasty. For our main entrees my mom had the Tangerine faux chicken while I had the Spicy Basil Pumpkin with faux chicken. They were both delicious! I also ordered a Thai iced tea with coconut milk, and it was soooo good! I'll definitely be back to Plumeria every time I come to San Diego.

Highly recommended!

By JDZatSF |

Came here with the family, got a huge amount of Thai food and some to go, and everything was great --- taste, portion size, service, ambiance --- so we were able to leave full and happy. Highly recommended!

Suprise find!

By KeriSCable |

We were looking for a place for thai or something spicy and read the reviews. Oh goodness, this place was incredible. We had never gone to a vegan restaurant before and absolutely loved everything we tried. Quaint little place with great service. So happy we found Plumeria!

Even non-vegetarians will find plenty to love at Plumeria!

By SDSteve |

I'm about as far as you can come from classifying myself as a vegetarian, but there is plenty to love at Plumeria. If you like Thai food for starters, you'll be right at home here. If you like meat, they've got every option you can imagine, reimagined from tofu or soy products. Chicken, beef, shrimp, duck, you name it. My favorite is the Pad Thai noodles with Crispy Duck. Not only is the food great but the service is always fantastic. It's a fairly small place, so plan ahead with a larger party of more than 4. They have a few tables out front which makes them dog friendly. This was my favorite new restaurant discovery this year. And after dinner, there are plenty of places to walk around in University Heights for dessert or coffee. Steady crowd there for to-go orders as well.

Took us over 30 minutes to find parking

By StrollMyWorld |

This restaurant might be wonderful, but we were so soured by our 30 minute parking experience that we didn't stay for dinner. This restaurant is located in an "apartment" type neigborhood, and there is literally - no parking - which caused us to miss our reservation. Just be warned - go early.

Heaven!

By NorCal_Prof |

Everything we had was beautifully presented, served quickly, and to die for. Make sure to order the gay le cha drink. Nothing better on a hot day!

Good place for a good quick meal

By CityHiker73 |

This Thai restaurant is vegetarian, but it serves "beef," "chicken," "duck" and more protein sources in a wide variety of dishes. We shared very good spring rolls and four entrees. The table in our booth was a bit crowded, but it was a fun time. Food came quickly, which was just what we wanted.

Simply the best

By James T |

Loved it..loved it..loved it. Try the duck soup. The service was great. We will definately be back. Craving the food while writing this review

Good tasting vegetarian food in a classy spot

By David M |

Plumeria has become so popular they recently expanded to twice their original size. I really enjoy the place. Nice, classy place, in a funky neighborhood. A favorite.

Great Thai vegetarian restaurant

By sandiego507 |

We came here for lunch on a Monday. We beat the crowd and found great parking on the street. Plumeria was a charming restaurant. We came especially for the vegetarian option for my out of town friend. I was skepticle as best because I am a meat lover. Going through the menu and ordered a few items. The starter was flavorful. We ordered a "steamed fish with basil", a green curry with "duck", and a today's special spaghetti in spicy sauce. The ordering could be complicated because you got to pick the dish, then the protein ( mock duck, mock chicken, tofu etc), then you pick the spicy level from 1-10. Please be warned: Thai food has a different kind of spiciness, be conservative when you select your level. It could surprise you! The food overall was delicious and well prepared. They were so flavorful that I forgot that there were no meat in our dishes. I would never leave a Thai restaurant without ordering the sticky rice with mango dessert. And Plumeria did not disappoint. The rice was creamy coconut goodness. The mango was ripe, sweet and very juicy. It is a must have !

Must try their mock duck larb!

By Pam⭐️ |

My husband and I frequent this place and Bahn Thai across the street for our Thai food cravings since we live 5 mins away. Plumeria has the best Isaan-like flavors for their mock duck larb. And when you say spicy please...they don't hold back!!! Maybe it's because I speak Thai to them so it's Thai style spicing ;)

Great Thai & vegetarian place!

By Claudia M |

Great place to get all kinds of variety vegetarian and other Thai food. We ate outside and had great service and loved the menu's variety. Want to go back!

Best Veg Joint in Cali

By Joey613 |

I've been to numerous vegan/vegetarian places throughout California, and I'd have to say this one was my favourite. I went with a dear friend who is NOT a fan of vegetarian food, and she was flabbergasted by the experience. She even left saying it's one of the best restaurants she's been to in a very long time. We got a bunch of dishes and shared; everything was delicious. I'd highly recommend it.

Love, love, love

By Fabul0us1 |

The title says it all. Although it’s a vegan restaurant and I’m not vegan, I still love it as it’s absolutely scrumptious. The menu is so so good and the different herbal tea they offer, is amazing. If you’re in the area, I can’t recommend this restaurant enough. Also, the price range is very reasonable. Happy travels 😊

Delicious Vegetarian Thai Restaurant

The fake-meat chicken was phenomenal! I enjoyed the cashew nut and my husband had the Tangerine chiken. The service was quick, professional and friendly

Maybe San Diego's Tastiest Vegetarian Restaurant

By Scott A |

We are sitting in our booth at Plumeria and wishing we had room for great looking dessert. Fabulous food that keeps us coming back. Satay crosp mock chicken with peanut sauce and cucumber salad appetizer. Crispy mock tangerine chicken with steamed broccoli for me and yellow curry mock chicken for Joanne. Awesome brown rice formed into cool shapes too. Can't miss. In trendy and cool University Heights

Best vegan restaurant in San Diego

By DaveW |

The variety and freshness of their menu items is unsurpassed by any other restaurant in town.I prefer little or no oil,not a problem.Spicy or no spice no problem. Service has always been excellent. Give them a try.

Something for everyone

By Andrew |

I am not a vegetarian but if I live in San Diego I would cheerfully eat here once a week. Service was pleasant and the food was delicious.

Oh so great vegetarian food

By Ham N |

If you could have these kind of food very often then being a vegetarian is not too bad at all. Actually I prefer vegetarian food most of the time.

2nd Time Very Disappointing!

By Sooz C |

The first time we ate here the food was fabulous! But this time it wasn't. I don't know if they changed cooks but the Pad Thai didn't resemble anything like I have eaten around the world. And when I told the server I didn't like it there was NO offering another option or taking it off the check. There's plenty of restaurants that care about their customers leaving happy and satisfied. Clearly they don't care!

EXCELLENT & HEALTHY

By Redtusok |

First time I tried a vegan place and I was hesitant but open so tried it and surprisingly enjoyed the meal and definitely appreciate the great service.

Vegetarian eating is always an adventure for us---and this was the best kind.

By Nonnie1 |

This tiny gem has indoor tables and tables on the sidewalk. We had the best of both, an indoor table next to an open doorway. I started with a tall glass of iced milky green tea. Loved it throughout the meal. There were so many great sounding appetizers, that we decided to make a meal of them. The Fresh Spring Rolls are so lovely---this has to be the best thing that ever happened to iceberg lettuce and carrots. The Thai Crispy Rolls are yummy and so are the Thai Samosas. We thought the edamame would be shelled, but it was good even though it wasn't. The Tom Kah Soup has an amazing flavorful broth. Since we'd saved room, we tried the Banana Caramel Cheese Cake Egg Roll with Vanilla Ice Cream. Splitting it was the perfect end to this vegetarian adventure. We'll have to go back for more of the same and some of what we didn't have room for this time around.

THIEVES! OVERRATED HIPSTERS PF CHANGS

By Maria Fernanda G |

THIEVES!!!! LADRONES!!!! RATS!!!! I am literally crying I am SOOO MAD!!! I went in today with 2 girlfriends to get some lunch at this overrated spot that everyone praises yet its the typical spot that you are like really? I mean its a hispters pfchangs with bad cutlery, plastic cups and DIRTY OILY SERVERS who dont believe in deodorant. GROSS. Whatever that was my opinion on the food( unimpressed) BUT WHAT HAS ME THIS LIVID... spitting out fire literally is the LACK OF HONOR AND INTEGRITY OF THIS HOLE ON THE WALL. I will continue, I was having lunch with my two friends on a very stressful day and that was my perk. We split the bill evenly, and it was approx 60$ and they paid with their debit cards and I paid cash with a 100$ bill for my approx 30 part of the bill. The waitress brought back my change and I was arranging my money which I had 300$. We agreed on tipping 4$ each yet I only had a 5 and 3 1$ so I decided to leave the 5$ since one dollar wasn’t going to break me... or so I thought. I went home to pay my mother the money she lent me to pay my rent since I had been in medical leave at work, and I am missing my 200$. I searched everywhere and had not used my bag since leaving that restaurant. I called and a waitress named BO I explained what happened to her and she answered “ oh yeah you were in the corner table with 2 other girls at 1. My manager will call you” so I immediately realized she knew who I was because what looney would leave 200 on a 30$ portion. So I said “oh so you know who I am and I did leave my money there” she replied “I think so, my manager will call.” I got no call I called again and an INCOMPETENT NIMROD who is the “manager” named MON answered said BO said that because of the cameras that it didnt mean they had the money... huh? How is that possible? She hadn’t checked them our call was no more than 2-3 minutes. She said she would check the cameras and called me back, she did andy bf was next to me and heard her say I only left 2$.( my 2 $100 bills) My bf said “that’s how I know she is lying, you would never leave 2$) because I WOULDNT. Even if the service was awful I would rather leave nothing then to be as offensive as to leave $2. She offered to let me go check the cameras and I said sure what time will the manager or owner be there so I can go with an attorney and she said “like 430 and let me know so I can have the cops here when you come.” I called her a thief with no integrity. Mon 200$ is nothing for the karma. You obviously need it more than I do so I hope you invest on some rosetta stone or give it to some orphans so karma doesn’t come down as bad.

Great!

By M Claudia G |

The food is always excellent! and I love the way they prepare the tofu!! you are not going to believe what they do...I love it!

Outstanding good Thai vegetarian restaurant

By Bernard F |

We did not know that this was a vegetarian restaurant, but this was one of the best Thai restaurant I have been so far. Outstanding food - protein is served using tofu as meat substitute. Available for duck, chicken and beef. I had duck-type tofu curry. It was exzellent. also Thai iced tea with coconut milk was exzellent. Prices are very reasonable. Will be back there when back in San Diego

Delicious Vegetarian/Vegan Food

By lonelyink |

Plumeria's food is wonderful. I recommend the flower cups as an appetizer. They have half & half or coconut milk for their Thai iced teas, & they make pumpkin dishes that are amazing. The only downside would be that the restaurants location is small, but it does have nice decor & the option to sit outside. Plumeria also does orders to-go, & they will give you a discount on yr to-go orders if you bring yr own container. Go green!

VEGAN AND VIBRANT

By Victoria M |

Amazing restaurant that tanatlizes your taste buds in the University Heights neighborhood. What's not to like on a their Vegan menu ?!!! Accomodating satff, great service, and food so flavorful you might just be fooled. Inviting and vibrant atmosphere it is a must !

Two Time Outta Towner

By Stacy N |

I have visited this restaurant during the month of March two years in a row. Each time with a different group of friends. It was my first choice upon flying into San Diego this last go around. Vegans, Vegetarians, and Omnivore appetites alike enjoyed their meals. The mock duck is a favorite, as well as the tangerine mock chicken. We also enjoyed their variety of teas. For a table of 6, with appetizers and drinks, the final bill was more than reasonable. We will visit again.

Slow Decline

By Shitij K |

This is my 2nd visit to the restaurant after 2 years. The experience was ok this time. Servers were not attentive especially the male server. Food is still good but not the best. I liked the Vegan thai cafe food better on Hillcrest. I am concerned with overall cleaning of the restaurant also. I would rate this time 3 and 1/2 star previously it was 5 star. Somebody is getting complacent in managing this iconic restaurant. Vegan Thai Cafe on Hilcrest is definitely can give them a very good competition.

Enjoyable, even if you are not vegetarian!

By SDNative92116 |

Tasty, well prepared and inviting. I love the spring rolls and lettuce cups, soups and curries. I even ended up liking the purple decor. LOL.

Tasty & Flavorful Vegetarian Thai Food

By Margaret C |

So many delicious vegan Thai dishes here! Our friendly and helpful waitress recommended some great dishes. We ordered the "tuna" flower cups, "larb" salad, steamed "fish", pineapple rice with "chicken", and pad thai with "duck" and vegetables. Of course the meat were vegan substitutes that were very tasty with good texture. The food was very flavorful and fresh. The only negative is that the Pad Thai was a little more sour than I preferred (perhaps too much vinegar?). My favorites were the flower cups and the pineapple rice. The atmosphere was relaxing and the decor is hip and very pleasing. Overall, a wonderful culinary experience.

Soooooo good!

By Caroline A |

If you like tasty, fresh and filling food - you will like Plumeria. The curries are delicious, satay sauce is addictive and the iced teas are so refreshing (I had pomegranate, my husband had mango). We left with full bellies and highly recommend you get down there! Great prices too.

FOR VEGAN - WAS FABULOUS

By Doris P |

I've tried other Vegas restaurants, but this was really great. Had Rama with veggies and duck (not really duck, but sure tasted like it). The food was served beautifully and hot. The flavors were unique and wonderful. There were four of us and we all had something different but shared. Whatever anyone had, the opinion was the same - terrific. I truly recommend this restaurant. It is somewhat noisy, but the food most definitely makes up for it. OH, try the chicken satay (not chicken) was so yummy.

Vegetarian Does Not Have to Be Boring!

This was the best Thai food and vegetarian food I've ever had. All four of us loved it! My brother in law is a self proclaimed meat lover and he was amazed by how good it was.

Delicious vegetarian thai food

Great restaurant for vegetarians - all the dishes are vegetarian so you can safely order any! We ordered Lotus flower, Red Curry, Spicy noodles and Panang curry. All the dishes were very good. Highly recommended.

We stumbled upon this place and are glad we did. The food was outstanding, the ambience was great, the service was top notch. Highly recommend!

How do you get a meat lover to go Vegetarian? Take him to Plumeria Vegetarian Restaurant!!!!

By John V |

While visiting San Diego for a conference a friend suggested Vegetarian. She was excited to have me try it so we went for it! We had curry, pineapple rice, sticky rick, and a vegan ice cream. It's amazing how they can make things taste so good that you don't even miss the meat,

Don't have to be vegetarian to enjoy!

By Mimbleganger |

Phenomenal food. We tried so many dishes with a large party that I don't even know where to start. And frankly, it felt that way opening up the menu! Too many good things! The waitress suggested some of the dishes and then we got started. Out of the many appetizers we tried (Flower Cups, Tuna Flower Cups, Satay with mock chicken, Fresh Spring Roll), the mock chicken Satay was the standout. Great flavor and texture. The larb with mock duck was spot on - a little too salty for me, but so is every larb. Entree-wise, the standout was the spicy basil pumpkin and the off-menu pad woon sen. The tangerine mock chicken was underwhelming - but I'm not the biggest fried orange chicken fan. After all that food, we couldn't get dessert, but the thai teas were good, even with the many varieties of cream options (soy, coconut, 1/2 1/2, etc). I think this restaurant may have edged into the top 5 places to eat in San Diego (a very exclusive list).

Good vegetarian Thai food

We fortunately reserved in advance, were able to find street parking. We got the food and drinks promptly, not too much wait time, all the food we ordered were delicious .the warm ginger drink was great.will definitely recommend.

Terrific vegetarian Thai food

By Jayanth N |

This is an amazing vegetarian Thai restaurant. The food is awesome and the service is quick. They serve mock meat made with gluten. So do not be alarmed to see meat mentioned on the menu. There is usually a wait at this place at busy times, I am told. But it's well worth the wait.

Really delicious

By esunjc |

I took a table for one. Ordered satay chicken and Pad Thai. I would like to say the vegetarian chicken is even more delicious than real one.

Vegetarian Thai at it's Best

By zactm56 |

Before Plumeria there was SIPZ, now there is only one mock meat place in San Diego for us. There is something incredible about this food especially for non-meat eaters. The flavor and atmosphere will keep you coming back for more. Must try the mock duck and for those who like it spicy 8 will set your mouth on fire.

Simply Loved it !!!!!!

By Subramanya b |

Being strict vegetarians we just found this place on our trip to San Diego. This place was heaven for we hungry souls. Staff : Extremely Courteous and very cautious with the diet requirements we had. I am little picky with the ingredients and the staff to run back and forth to confirm with their chef and yet back with smiling face . Food Taste : We ordered Thai Samosa and Basil Fried Rice. Both tasted divine. The sauce with Samosa was very delicious. Final Verdict: I would recommend this place to one and all. Would love to visit this place again. I can still recollect the flavor of the every ingredient in the food served.

Vegetarian heaven

I live right by Plumeria. It is fabulous and every time I walk by and see people eating outside I want to ask if I can have a bite! I had a delicious meal and the service was great as well. I went with my older father who is a meat eater but he loved his vegetarian dish as well.

We have had adequate, but not great meals, at Plumeria. It is always bustling and rather loud with friendly staff members. Our most positive experiences have been with the Thai-leaning, all-vegetable items. Although there are items that sound good, they have lacked of spice and been very bland.
