First time in San Diego and was surprised at the lack of bars with alcohol in them. Mostly beer and wine. This place couldn't have been more different. Great scene, lots of interesting people, AMAZING drinks. The vibe was fun and chill. If you're hungry, grab some food next door at Swine & Soda (fried chickpeas, quinoa meatball) and pig out.

If you're looking for a mature and older crowd this is a place for you. It does get super busy on the weekend and the wait can be long. Inside is there is plenty of drink selections. Our waiter were really down to earth and friendly. If you're hungry next door is a Chinese restaurant. You can order food and bring it over. It might be the same owner. Definitely would come back again

Just an overall great experience! Fun and cool ambiance as well as delicious drinks! Staff was friendly and service was efficient but didn’t feel rushed! Will become a local fave in my book!

What a great bar. Amazing hand crafted cocktails that are very innovative. A must visit when visiting San Diego! They also feature a lot of cocktails on tap. The interior is really cool. Love the bathroom floor made out of nickels! Everything here is creative and unique!

With the resurgence in cocktail mixology this is a wonderful light open bar, a nice place to have an afternoon cocktail. Predominantly a young hangout there were some older folks like us too. Nice small menu of drinks they also make some of their own bitters. Food available from next door. Feels like a European sidewalk bar.

Had to take a cab out to the area of San Diego to visit Polite Provisions on a recommendation from a friend. It's located in an old drugstore - still has the neon sign out front. Drinks are unique and plentiful. They are known for their bourbons and rye but have quite a few drinks that were interesting. Wish I had had stamina enough for more than one drink. Very trendy place with interesting decor. We sat outside on a nice evening. Again, a bit out of the way but totally worth it.

We stopped in for our favorite (this week!) cocktails and were not disappointed. I had a Pimm's Cup that impressed everyone in our foursome with how tasty it was. My husband's French Martini came in a close second. Really nice, upscale but casual watering hole.

Polite Provisions is actually a bar, if you want food you can order at the counter of Soda and Swine located next door, and a server will bring your food to your table. Polite Provisions is a prohibition themed in its decor and ambience. They serve up an extensive list of fun and innovative craft cocktails. I visited during December, and it was decorated as "Miracle on 30th Street," or as my friend put it--it looks like Christmas threw up in there. I loved the kitschy decorations and fun holiday themed cocktails. This place has indoor and outdoor seating, but it gets packed even on weekday nights. They have a small parking lot, as well as challenging street parking.

Visited this fine spot while on holidays last July 2016. My son likes his beers especially ipa and foreign. This was just the spot . Great range of beers to be had and the food was great. The ambiance was very relaxed. No belting music or unruley people . Just a perfect spot for an hour or two. Hope to get back to San Diego in the near future. A visit to the aircraft carrier is also a must.

...........it will be very difficult to find a better made cocktail. My well-informed mixologist Pedro made some amazing drinks, the Old Fashion being my favorite. The best Old Fashion being the best that I have ever tried. The ambiance is classic yet not pretentious. If you need some food to accompany the cocktails, Soda and Swine next door will send over some plates. Perfect!

Interesting and beautiful decor---reminded me a bit of the French Quarter. Nice range of cocktails all done right--server was friendly and knowledgeable. Great place to catch up with friends.

It’s been a few years since I’ve been back and we used to love coming here. The atmosphere is still the same but the cocktails has gotten weak and pricey. Seating is first come first served. I don’t mind paying more and being worth every penny if the drinks were better quality. I had Poolside Gossip and it was sweet and bubbly with the Prosecco. Then I had Hyde Park Punch which also had Prosecco but with cucumber so it was refreshing. However that cup was full of crushed ice and mainly syrup. I wanted to go for a third and usually by this time, I would have a nice buzz from these crafted cocktails. But considering both drinks had mainly juice, we decided to close the tab early and head elsewhere. Very disappointed. This place also doesn’t serve food. You can go next door and bring food back.

Had an amazing evening with friends here. The bar staff know exactly what they are doing...every cocktail I had was amazing. Yes it was a bit of a drive from our hotel in the Gaslamp quarter but I'd certainly recommend the drive to North Park to visit. The ambience is great! The food was also really good! Love the decor throughout...including the quirkiness of the toilet. Will definitely be back!

If you want to try drinks that are non-standard, this is definitely the place. I enjoyed trying something different, but if you do not like spices in your drink this is probably not the place for you. I do love the atmosphere and the furnishings...feels like stepping back in time.

Beers are decent Cocktails too Sweet Atmosphere - Very good Crowd, good. Atmoshpere is not a BEER brewery one, rather a Cock-Tailish

Great relaxing bar. Service is outstanding, our server had the best attitude! Drinks are fantastic....and for those of you who get the munchies - Soda and Swine is attached next door.

Great drinks, atmospheres, and service! My husband and I sat on the patio on a warm summer night and enjoyed. They do not serve food, but you can order from their neighboring restaurant and they will deliver the food to you.

This is a great place to go with a friend after a long work week! It gets loud, but you can still chat and have a great time...never a dull moment here. The drinks are fantastic. Can't go wrong with whatever drink you order.

I have now been to Polite Provisions a few times. The drinks aren't super strong, but they're interesting and tasty. It's made me try things I normally wouldn't. I love the windows in the roof in the front part of the bar. It's a perfect happy hour or daytime spot with the sun streaming in on you and your cocktail. The food at Soda and Swine, which you order next door and they bring over, is pretty decent, reasonably priced, and a good accompaniment to the cocktails. It's a great little spot for the northern end of 30th. Get there early and snag a table.

It's so nice to go to a bar that's not the usual thing. It's a great space with a glass atrium ceiling and windows that completely open out to provide an indoor/outdoor feel. the decor is 1920's speakeasy but it's not full of itself like some similar pubs in San Fran. The drinks on offer are really interesting and it's fun to pick something off the wall to try. they also are associated with soda and swine next door so you can pop over there to order snacks and they'll deliver into the bar. A great place for a first date to help break the ice (no pun intended) or to get a break from the usual neighborhood bar.

The San Diego food scene continues to evolve with clever variations on proven themes. Polite Provisions and its companion eatery Sodas and Swine offer a diversion from predictable restaurant offerings. Diners line up to place their orders at the kitchen. A changing menu is posted on blackboards and beverage selections include items such as beer floats, champagne slushies and twenty obscure craft sodas. Seating is at communal tables, so be prepared to make new friends while waiting for your order to arrive from the kitchen. Open early and late, the place is busy throughout the day.

If you and your party wants to have a forgetable night, ORDER the treasure chest! It comes with a bottle of champagne and 1 bottle of rum....THAT'S IT! SO GOOD! I can't even remember finishing up that darn thing.

The ambience is wonderful at this charming cocktail bar from the glass and wood detailed ceiling allowing tons of natural light to the unique bar stools and elegant tiled flooring and fixtures. Many crafty libations to choose from in a playful menu. As with many of these throwback prohibition-style establishments, our bartender wasn't overly friendly and no table service was offered but it's still a nice stop for afternoon or evening drinks.

Incredible variety of drinks, some of the best bartenders in San Diego, a great place for a couple of drinks, interesting crowd, parkinf available next door if lucky enough if not good luck. No TV, can be a good or a bad thing, food service from their sister restaurant, try it

This is a great place for a special drink made my a master. Let them choose your drink as that is the best way to enjoy the experience. Great atmosphere in here and a cool place in all! Love it!!!

I seek out cocktail bars wherever I go, and price doesn't bother me. Like people who want to eat the highest quality meals, I want the highest quality drinks. This is one of the best cocktail bars I've ever been to. Easily, hands down. First and foremost, the drinks. Incredible. Creative, original, affordable for their quality. Many cocktail bars have a "thing", right. Boozy drinks, or sweeter, maybe more on the fruity side, or leans heavily on gin or bourbon. This was the best array of drinks I've ever seen. From strong and boozy, to Tiki drinks that rival some of the best I've ever had (and I've been to TOO MANY Tiki bars). They also have cocktails on tap, which is incredibly unique. The decor and building is amazing. It's themed as an old pharmacy/soda jerk atmosphere. I felt like I was in an old French cafe, with the sliding brass and glass windows, cushioned bench seats, and old wooden chairs. Lots of sunlight, which is not common in cocktail bars. We went here three straight days on our vacation, it was that great. And the staff was incredible! On our third day, they recognized us and gave us a free drink, as well as some small swag. It was truly appreciated. This is the cocktail bar to hit up when you are in town, or if you live in San Diego and you've been on the fence. It's fantastic!

Smashed meatball burger, chicken parm sandwich, broccolini, Brussels sprouts with bacon and caramelized onions, craft drinks, hip vibe, friendly staff, awesome location. Go. Eat. Drink. Love it.

Quirky, individual and well worth the visit. Nice bubbly ambience which, curiously or perhaps not, grew more convivial with every Cobra's Fang I consumed. Nicely off the centre of town, set in the burb between Madison and Adams Avenues, I thoroughly recommend a 'happy hour' adventure at Polite Provisions. Friendly staff, intriguing decor and first class cocktails. What's not to like?

I have visited many places with a similar theme, but this was the best in my opinion. The drinks were fantastic, I love all the natural light and charm inside and the food from next door was great. I definitely recommend going during happy hour so you can inexpensively try several food/drink options :) Check out my blog review and pictures taken with Retrocam! http://bit.ly/16U2GCu

This was a great place to meet for drinks and hang with friends. They have something for everyone to enjoy...brews and signature cocktails. Loved being able to just sit outside and hang.

We ordered food next door and then ate here in the bar (staff brings the food over) to get the outstanding beer selections. Lots of handles, lots of variety. The decor is open, light and airy, with a contrasting subway marble tile surrounds, hexagon tile floors, and brass rails dividing the spaces. Great bar to stop in for a craft beer or artisan crafted cocktail!

We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. We ate at Soda and Swine (next door/adjoined) which was a 3/5 stars. Then we came here! I really enjoyed the drinks, and that they allowed people to eat their food from Soda and Swine in this restaurant (served them here too). I gave it 4/5 stars because it is unusual to find such a classy bar in San Diego, where everything is casual and the people reflect that. Here everyone looked nice. I didn't give it 5 stars because it is so loud! The conversations bounce off the walls and floor, and make it difficult to have a conversation with a group (ok, one on one). I would come back on a date or during the day when it might be quieter, but likely not in a group where it is difficult to hear someone who is three feet away.

Very nice cosy place with an extensive list of cool cocktails and spirits. Definitely worth checking out. While your there try the Japanese whiskey they have on offer. Awesome stuff

Great little pub with a unique flair. Handcrafted cocktails , hand cut ice, classic. Arrive early for best seating it gets crowd and loud. Food not available here but next door you can wait in line and get some. Weird concept and kind of sucked cause it was raining. Wait staff deliver to table so that was good. Still give it a five simply due to the cocktail craft.
Cool Bar, Good Food
I was impressed by this place. Such a cool atmosphere (it's set up like an old pharmacy) and the drinks are delicious. I complained, because I ordered a birthday dessert with a candle in it for my husband to be delivered, and they blew the surprise by announcing it when they delivered dinner, and told me I had to go let them know when we were ready for the cake to come out. But, in retrospect, my complaint was unreasonable considering the food here is counter-service (although it feels like table service since the food is good, you order next door and they deliver it). The guy who waited on me was gracious and friendly and understanding despite this, and totally impressed me. I'll go back in a heartbeat, if not for the service, but for the beef slider and the polenta.
