Ordered the veal, it was very dry. Got a side of pasta, received a mound if sticky angel hair with very little sauce. Not at all what I expected. The restaurant was very cute, too bad the food didn't live up to the expectation.

Found the place due to reviews. This is a great place to have a typical Italian meal. It is small, busy, efficient and serves great food from a broad menu.

Ohmigodddddddd ---- the things I can say about this place - but what can I say that hasn't already been said by the other 600+ people who have dined and loved it here?! First, parking was a bit of an issue, but not a huge one. It's all street parking so you have to drive around a bit but there is plenty nearby so it's not a huge issue, just something to be aware of because you are going to have to walk a block or two. Parking is ALWAYS a thing for me so if you are like me at all, you just need to know that in advance so you'll be prepared. The outside is so freakin' adorable that there is that - it's easy to find with the little entry way light up and decor. My friend and I met here for dinner after work around 7pm and it wasn't very crowded so we were promptly greeted and easily sat in the outdoor area at a nice little table. We were brought water and a basket of warm bread with a spicy tomato dipping sauce. I had not eaten much that day since breakfast and had run 4 miles at the gym so I was ready to do some damage! I ordered a caesar salad to start and went with the bolognese. It consisted of cavatappi pasta (my fav) absolutely loaded with this amazing bolognese meat sauce, topped with as much black pepper and parm as we wanted with two dollops of a fresh cheese I can't remember (but yum!). My friend ordered the veggie linguine pasta with tomato sauce and finished her meal with a fresh cannoli. I went with the tiramisu because I'd seen it on review sites and it looked pretty legit. I was right - it was AMAZING. I have stopped ordering tiramisu since my trip to Verona, Italy in 2012 because it's always disappointing and soggy in the states. This tasted like I was sitting at that small street side cafe in Verona again. YUM! I devoured it despite being packed full of delicious and perfect bolognese! Service was amazing and our waiter was very friendly and efficient. I have zero complaints - at all. I'm from Virginia but visit San Diego 2-3x annually for work - I'll be sure to come back each time I visit. My friend lives in Cali now and said she was going to bring her husband back when he's back from deployment bc he'd love it! Come and have dinner here - now - you will not regret it one bit! Authentic and delicious Italian food that tastes like you are in Italy with great service to match the food!

Reminds us so much for cozy Italian restaurants that we frequently visit on our trips to Italy. Very authentic food, with wonderful service.

This is a great Italian family run restaurant. It was fun to speak Italian with them. Great menu with a wide range of meat, fish and pasta options. Good wine list with lots of Italian wines to choose from. Everyone at the table loved their food. I had the Osso Buco and it was the best! Service was excellent. Setting was simple but nice. Not a full-service bar, just beer and wine. Great place I highly recommend.

This was a delightful and unexpected treat and a marvelous find! We walked from our hotel, the Kona Kai Resort, about 1.6 miles along the shoreline and were referred to this Italian restaurant by a passerby who lived on board a sailboat. WHAT A RESTAURANT. This is the most authentic Italian place we have found in San Diego. The Calamari appetizer (not fried) in broth was so good we wanted to get seconds. The swordfish was incredible, and the seafood pasta assortment was likewise memorable. They have a fair wine list, but the food makes any of their wines great. Do not miss this place. It is small, noisy and FUN. Patio dining was our choice but they have inside dining as well. Patio no table cloths, inside table cloths. Don't miss! They have a place in La Jolla as well and we are going to try that next.

We, a family of 4 ate at this restaurant. Fantastic Italian food. We were so stuffed, we had to get substantial portions to take back with us. Friendly service, quaint and enjoyable place. Would definitely go back.

Wonderful, wonderful food. We lived on Shelter Island years ago....ALWAYS ate there & it was amazing!!! Returned a few days ago and the food was still perfect! It was disappointing to see the exterior with scattered with weeds & garbage.

This is our favorite Itallian Resutrant in Point Loma. The lasagna is very good as well as the Eggplant Parmesan of course with a nice bottle of red wine!

We are from the NYC metro area and are used to amazing Italian food. After being disappointed with most Italian food in San Diego, we were happy to find a great Italian restaurant in Point Loma. Our dinner started with crusty bread with a side of red sauce for dipping. We then shared the eggplant Parmesan appetizer that was light and tasty. My husband had a good Caesar salad, and a great penne pasta with chicken dish. While I had the minestrone soup which was filled with vegetables, and the shrimp risotto that was so delicious. The portions are large and almost everyone walked out with doggie bags. The restaurant was very busy, but the service was excellent and well paced. We will definitely be eating here again before returning to the East coast.

OMG this was a find, we have been coming to Point Loma for years and never went here… it is so good !! We had the Ossobuco and Primavera with a Calamari appetizer… delicious!!! The staff were so great We’re coming back !

I hope this place survives so I can come again. They are currently dealing with a staffing shortage but still kept up on a busy night. The artichokes we perfect, an the oil they were in was amazing! I had the carbanada and cleaned the plate.

They either have new owners or a new chef because the food was just not as good as usual. This has always been one of our favorite places to eat and take friends. On Saturday, the four meals we ordered were just ok not great like they usually are and the portion sizes were also half of what they used to be. The last time we were here they had 1 server who was also doing dishes and line prep and he said they couldn't get anyone to come in. Back then the wait was crazy but the food was still good. When we went Saturday night around 7pm we were worried it would be a long wait but no one was there. They had 3-4 tables being used but the majority of the place was empty. We were secretly excited but understood when our food arrived. I guess they are just another Covid casualty. Sad day to see such a good restaurant join the rest of the mediocre restaurants in town.

As soon I step in front of the restaurant, the hostess was very kind to accommodate me right away to be seated on the table. The restaurant has complimentary bread which I think all restaurants should have but that just my opinion. The waiter was on point on the wine selection that he recommended me to try. As for the main entrée, we ordered the squid ink pasta which is not on the menu and the waiter have to ask the Chef is it was available and we were lucky enough to have it that night. The is great but I think the sauce over it kind of overpower looking like noodle soup. Overall, the atmosphere is pleasant, vibrant and the food is delicious.

I would guess the night we visited was short on servers. Everyone that worked there was so nice and friendly, but you go long period of time without someone taking your order, checking on you, getting your check. We went there about 8:45 PM and ended up staying a LONG time waiting and waiting. The food was OK, but not the kind of Italian I was hoping for. There are some Italian restaurants you dream of long after you visit, but I'd never do that with Pomodoro. I'd say it's probably a bit overhyped.

This is a delightful small charming Italian restaurant . It is a cute bungalow with inside & outside eating. The food is very good , with excellent service. It is located in Pt Loma in a charming area near the water , boats & other restaurants. Try it if you are in the area.

One word : delicious! Nice little intimate place to eat and have a great time. Very warm and friendly service.

Great place to have dinner. Excelent service, warm and delicious!!! Price absolutely according. You should visit if you come by.

Casual restaurant but great food. Nice variety of food on the menu.Outdoor seating is nice and relaxing. I saw some people bring in their own wine but the wine list is reasonable priced.

We heard this was a must try place and now we know why… it’s delicious! The food and staff were great, and the atmosphere cozy. We will definitely come back.

Great food! Great sauces. Fresh seafood. Bread was house made and warm. So good!!! Staff was friendly and quick. Loved the atmosphere.

A cozy little Italian place with a wait time to prove wait awaits inside. We lucked out and arrived just before the rush and were seated immediately. We both had enormous dinner salads with a scrumptious vinaigrette. My husband d commented that the greens tasted freshly picked. Followed by entrees of veal picatta and mushroom filet both served with perfectly steamed fresh vegetables. I was wonderful. I wish I would have had room to try the tiramisu, as the table next to us seemed to enjoy theirs immensely. When we left, the wait line was very long and despite there not being a bar, everyone had drinks. The service was impeccable. Highly recommended.

The wait staff was great, served you in a timely manner, let you linger if you wanted to, no rush by staff to turn over table, they were all very attentive and friendly, but not at all pushy. The food was very good-everyone (6) had a different entree and they were all happy with their choices. The eggplant parm was excellent- take that over the lasagna. Apps were OK, nothing to write about. Overall, a very pleasant experience, just right for what we were looking for. Good food, nice wait staff, good ambiance-a nice place to spend an evening.

There were so many positive reviews so we chose this restaurant. We were quite disappointed. The fried calamari appetizer was OK but the appetizer of mozzarella, tomato sauce, and eggplant was tasteless. The main course of pasta with seafood contained overcooked seafood in a watery sauce. The restaurant is cozy and the staff is pleasant so it was really very disappointing that the food was so bland - just lacking in flavor.

We went here based on TA reviews. Nothing at all to write home about. First, there are only 2 parking spaces. We got one by pure luck. We got a waiter who sounded like he was feigning an Italian accent. Ok, whatever. The Carbonera and veal park were average at best. The bread was edible. They try, but it's not a must place to eat.

Food, service and atmosphere are all very good here. Near the water with a breeze on the patio! The food is excellent. I had a Caprese salad (the mozzarella and tomatoes were excellent) and black linguini with seafood (scallops and shrimp) in a white wine cream sauce. Wow! Eat here.

My daughter and I planned to order different dishes and share, but when I tasted the black linguini with seafood, I was tempted to hog it for myself! It was delicious. Everything was very good, but that dish was outstanding. I would love to eat here again. My only complaint might be that the desert cannelloni might be overpriced for the size of the one cannelloni. Our waiter was friendly and service was excellent.

Loved this place. Inside dining was quaint and cozy. Staff was friendly and courteous as well as prompt. Our glasses were never empty. The food was amazing. I got the mushroom ravioli and my boyfriend got their rigatoni, both were outstanding. The flavors were simply savory. I truly wish I had room for dessert. Overall I can't wait to eat here again.

Our FAVORITE Italian restaurant in San Diego is located in the Point Loma community. It is owned by Fabio who is from Como, Italy. The food has freshly made PASTA and BREAD, and is authentic Italian cuisine. I had the PASTA CARBONARA originally from Naples, Italy. It’s a rich dish of pancetta, eggs, cream and house made spaghetti. My husband had the SEAFOOD with marinara sauce and fresh made pasta. There are nightly SPECIALS, usually a fish or a pasta dish that is not on the daily menu. There usually also an extensive WINE list.

Found this place on the web so gave it a try. Very local feeling to it the staff were friendly and helpful. We felt very welcome and the atmosphere was relaxing hardly saw anyone sat staring at their phones which must have meant they were all talking which is unusual these days. I would definitely go back but we have moved on. I love it when the food is not mass produced and actually made on site. The manager will know who we were, a family of three who he surprised with a treat before we left. Five stars from me!

I don't have the right words to adequately describe how it feels to go to a restaurant, but feel like you are at grandma's house being served by family and friends. This is a treat not to be missed. On this past visit, we showed up on a Saturday after a day on the water, had no reservation, but they were gracious and found us a place to sit so we could also enjoy some great family food. Why go to Europe when you can just visit Pomodoro? Bon Appetite!

Went here on a busy Saturday night. We were seated right away and the place is very charming. The food and atmosphere is definitely 5 star. Service was very slow throughout the meal, one minor complaint.

Always have to find a good Italian restaurant when on vacation. Was a cute little place and the food was very good. Full bar, inside or outside seating.

There are a few things in this world, that if I see it on a menu, are tie breakers. Eggplant parm and Cioppino are two items that will make me take the plunge and try a new place. (Un)fortunately, this place has both, and so I had to try the Cioppino. What an outstanding version. A rich (they call it “light”) tomato broth loaded with seafood. A great choice for a light dinner. I teamed that out with a Cesar salad (good dressing, ok croutons) and some warm bread plus a glass (or two) of white wine. Perfect dinner combo. It was a Thursday night, so there were not a lot of other diners there. This is a great neighborhood place. The place has equal amounts of inside and (covered) patio dining space. I would highly recommend this place.

Went many times to this restaurant and food is always incredible. Huge portions, very tasteful, friendly staf. If you want a real Italian restaurant with great food and a nice atmosphere? Just one place to visit!

My wife and I had dinner here recently. We were seated right away and service was friendly and efficient. The food was "superpo". The atmosphere was fun and inviting. We loved the ambiance and soft music. That is, until they turned on the roaring, grating coffee grinder which lasted about five minutes. Surely they could take care of that chore before customers arrive. Anyway, we will be back.

Food, service, and prices were fantastic. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.

Small, cozy, indoor or simi outdoor restaurant colorful with friendly staff and very good food, everyone enjoyed their meal

We got here at about 8:00 pm and it was packed. A good indication that it was a great place!! We sat inside (outside was full, but would have been a little cooler). Great authentic Italian food. Great service. Ordered: Veal Piccata, Chicken with Artichokes and mushrooms, eggplant parmesan, and cavatelli. All dishes were outstanding. Go!! Great place in 'Little Italy' San Diego.

No atmosphere only us in the place, coke was flat we asked for it to be taken off the bill but was presented with yet another flat coke. My risotto was good but a bit on the wet side. Husbands pizza was way to salty. Better Italians around.

We found this restaurant through a review app as we were staying in the Hilton near the airport. Super close...maybe a 7-9 minute drive. Seemed very authentic, the hostess and the servers spoke wi an Italian accent. I had the orreciette pugliese and it was phenomenal! Super light but flavorful sauce and the pasta had a perfect mouthfeel!!! The sausage was equally yummy! We also had very nice beet and arugula salad to start...though the beets may not have been fresh, but rather canned...still tasted good!

Our second time here - this time "pink sauce" and spaghetti which was wonderful. Good wine selection. Nice people. Great menu.

We literally stumbled across this place a few years back while staying in Pt. Loma. Was walking around the area and saw it among other restaurants around Shelter Island. The next day my dear wife decides she wants Italian instead of Sushi for our anniversary dinner, so we gave it a try. Surprise! The service was great and the food is awesome! Now one of 3 or 4 spots we have to hit nearly every time we're in the area.

Went for my wife's birthday and had excellent service. Santos M was our server and very friendly and attentive. Started with Bruscetta that was very good. Our entrees: Mushroom Ravioli, Vitello Marsala, Pappardelle Capellini, and Ravioli Di Ricotta were all excellent. Plenty of beverage choices were available. Our table was comfortable near an open door to enjoy the warm evening. Definitely a great time.

The restuarant was very romantic, the staff very efficient and friendly AND the food was excellent. My husband ordered a beer and they were out of that brand. The waiter went to a nearby resturant and brought back the beer he wanted. Great service. Prices were good too.

The pasta/seafood meal was sooo good, shrimp in the meal was delicious! Service was excellent! Only thing that would make the meal better would be if they made the pasta in-house :)

We came to dinner with two friends. There were three parking spaces (one handicapped) and the rest is street parking. We were lucky to get one of the 3 spots. As you walk into the restaurant, there is an outdoor patio, but we opted to eat inside. The restaurant is small so reservations are recommended. And well worth it! The food was wonderful. We started with a glass of wine (a large pour!) and went from there. The menu is extensive with all the usual Italian fare. All our main courses were delicious, and even though we were quite full, we couldn’t resist ordering one ice cream and one cannolo (which is the singular of cannoli). It was well worth the calories! OH, and the restaurant was quiet enough that we could all hear each other. A definite plus!

I have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed the food is authentic Italian and yummy .they have gourmet coffee and my friends love the chianti .salad and pasta their goes my girlish figure

We had a wonderful meal at Pomodoro. This was a small, unpretentious Italian restaurant located near our hotel in Point Loma. The food was delicious...we especially liked their tomato sauce.....not rich and heavy, but light and flavorful. Portion sizes were generous. Overall good value, would return again.

Pomodoro is a quaint Italian restaurant in Point Loma San Diego. Easy to get to and street parking available in the area. A great selection of Italian dishes with a variety of pastas, sauces, and meats or fish. I can only speak of the Vitello Milanese (breaded veal scaloppini topped with fresh arugula and chopped tomatoes). To this I added a side dish of Angel Hair pasta with Vodka sauce. Mama Mia.

Went to Pomodoro last night. First time there and I was blown away. This was as good as anything I've had in Italy. Reality is, the employees are obviously all Italian and it shows up in the food and the attitude. Atmosphere is a bit loud but truly worth it. Food is incredible and I was totally impressed. The Osso Buco was amazing. Close to Shelter Island.

Loved this restaurant. Not only was the food really quite good, but the service was very friendly. The restaurant is owned and run by true Italians so the food was authentic. I had a risotto dish with sun dried tomatoes and other yummy stuff, and my friend had a pasta dish. Both dishes were abundant in portion and made for a good lunch the following day. We also shared a chocolate bread pudding that was quite delicious. Price wise this was very affordable...2 glasses of wine, 2 entrees, 1 dessert and the bill was about $60. I'll definitely be back...

If you like great Italian food this place was wonderful. Service great and the food was the best. I had the black squid ink pasta with large shrimp and bay scallops. My husband had the homemade cheese & spinach ravioli which was also very good.

When you enter the small entrance of the restaurant you enter Italy even though you are only 0.7 miles from San Diego Bay. The friendly staff, all Italian, take you under their wing and find you a comfortable table. You might have to wait awhile if you don't have a reservation but it is well worth it. The menu is huge, the food is outstanding and generous in portions. The five of us all ordered some thing different ranging from lamb, Italian sausage, pasta, sea food. What a meal. 3 of 5 could not eat the whole meal and had a take home. The bread oh the bread! Crusty of the outside and soft and warm in the inside. Tomato garlic sauce was there to dip it in. Outstanding experience for all.

Located on a corner in an old house that has been turned into a restaurant. Quaint decorating. The food was average, but the service was great! All of the staff is so friendly.

Our server was great. The food however was nothing exciting. I had the veal parmesan. It was just okay, it came with carrots, a broccoli stem and a few potatoes chunks. The veggies were all cold. I was expecting it to come with some pasta. My husband and son were not impressed with their food either. We will probably not return. There are much better options out there! Too bad for an $80 bill.

Absolutely wonderful dining. Small, as if I am eating in someone's home. Nice outdoor patio (covered). Service is awesome. Even on the fourth of July, a packed house, and the staff worked there tails off, yet was extremely pleasant. I had the lasagna and it was pretty darn awesome. Salad was good, too. A bottle of wine for <$30 and a total dinner bill of < $65. That's another plus. Parking is a challenge, as is most places near Shelter Island on the 4th. They do have 4 spaces next to the restaurant (on Portugal Street) and they share a lot on the Scott Street/Canon Street corner. I'll definitely be back.

Friendly atmosphere, fun and friendly staff who really are Italian, and great food. Melanzana Parmigana, oh yes! Great pasta and pizzas too.

I am a sailboat captain in the charter industry and over the course of the last 3 years, I've recommended this restaurant daily to thousands of people. I often receives emails and messages from clients saying how delighted they were to have such a great recommendation. This is my absolute favorite restaurant in San Diego. The atmosphere and food is unlike anything else. The staff makes this restaurant a truly authentic Italian experience. I can't say enough about Pomodoro. I will keep sending them business. Bon appetit! Captain Kevin Rickon

We had a lovely birthday dinner for 12 to celebrate Sept birthdays. Great food; get the daily specials!

So glad we went here! Small and family oriented place. The family who owns this I believe we're also the staff. Very friendly and accommodating ! The food here was outstanding! So many items to chose from, Italian and more. There were 8 of us and every one of us loved their dinner. Please visit here you won't be disappointed! And the deserts are fabulous as well.

Our “go-to” neighborhood restaurant, Pomodoro does not disappoint in authentic Italian food. The owner Fabio is from Como region of Italy (if I remember correctly). My husband loves their house made pasta with sausage and fresh tomato sauce. I had the special of the day: a large lamb shank with bone-in, served over a saffron risotto with diced carrots. Beautiful dish! I ate half, and took the rest home. I also recommend their tre Sapori Salad, which has 3 types of lettuce, walnuts and goat cheese. Temperature, low lighting and low music is perfect ambiance. Service was slower than usual, but the restaurant had a full house on this Friday night.

Enjoyed two wonderful pasta dishes in this cozy, neighborhood spot. It was very busy and we had two large groups dining near us, but we never felt neglected. The service was understandably a little slow, but we enjoyed the ambiance and just relaxed and had a chance to talk. Salads were fresh and servings generous. We had lunch the next day on the leftovers.

Early dinner (1730) with our family of 4 staying on Shelter Island. Very accommodating for our 2 year old son. The food was outstanding and the staff went out of their way to provide the best service possible. Highly recommend the mushroom/ricotta stuffed ravioli. Wow!!

My husband and I absolutely loved this place. My kids not so much. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and fairly priced.

It was perfect. Lovely ambience. We’ll definitely come back when staying around next. Were treated well in cosy atmosphere.

Met old childhood friends for lunch at his recommendation. Excellent choice from full menu. Local favorite near Shelter Island. Street parking only but plentiful. Moderate prices make this a good choice for families

We visited as a family of 4 with two teenagers. We had a variety of meals and all were good. The service was a touch slow in places but perhaps we noticed because we were quite tired. Would certainly recommend.

So disappointed. I researched highly reviewed restaurants for a trip with the hubby. The reviews were so high that we went here for dinner and couldn’t have been more disappointed. To begin with, the bread and cold marinara sauce? It’s was not good tasting. Then we moved on to Caesar salads, it’s hard to screw up a Caesar salad but this was hands down the worst Caesar we have ever had. The dressing was awful. Our entrees, I ordered the Gnocchi which I thought was not bad 👍🏼 My poor husband ordered the spaghetti carbonara and it was the worst pasta I think I have ever seen. I cannot believe the chef sent that out to a customer. The bottom of the dish was a lake of oil! He could not eat it. He took a few bites and could not eat it. I was very disappointed that the server did not even ask why he barely touched his entree and why we asked for our check immediately, skipping dessert or coffee. I had such high hopes because of the reviews, I had to write one to forewarn people and hopefully the restaurant reads reviews and learns from them?

We've been going there every time we visit San Diego for the last 6 years. It's a charming, friendly neighborhood place, with consistently good food and pleasant service. One time this visit, we were just a little late for lunch and early for dinner, and they fed us anyway! We'll eat there again for sure.

We were a little concerned because when we called they didn't think a reservation was needed, but when we got there we had wished we had made reservations. They were able to seat us quickly though. Service was awesome. Scallops were fantastic. Arribiatta sauce was authentic. Desserts are coma inducing. We would go back in a heartbeat.

All five meals were exceptional. The salmon curry was a unique delicious dish. Lasagne was remarkable as was the spinach ravioli. Desserts were also top notch. Limoncello cake was wonderful as was the tiramisu. Service was prompt.

We make it a point to eat here each time we visit San Diego. The food is wonderful. A small little place, but friendly and not over priced. Highly recommend it.

This is our first visit and it was the day after Christmas which turns out to be a "slow" day for lunch, but busy during the evening. So we plus another group of 4 were the only ones in the restaurant. Service was efficient and friendly. We love the cozy, intimate dining room. My hubby had the black linguine seafood and I had the pappardelle with lamb and tomato sauce. The pastas were definitely freshly made and both entrees were delicious - tasty without being too overwhelming or salty. The bread was served warm with a spicy tomato sauce. Street parking only.

We had a wonderful meal here. We both had the eggplant parm which was not breaded, not fried but sliced paper thin, and in a wonderful fresh sauce. We also had the salad with mixed greens, sliced pears and smoked gouda, yummy. Portions were perfect, the prices were right and the bottle of chianti was wonderful. A very quaint little place that we could walk to from Humphreys.

I lived in Italy for years...this restaurant is the real deal. Best atmosphere, best service, best food. People cooking there are actually professional chefs from Italy. We came in July 4th with a large party and they sat us right away and took such good care of us. Everyone was so friendly and the food was fabulous. This is the only Italian restaurant I even want to go to anymore in Pt. Loma!

My daughter and her fiance live across the street so they suggested Pomodoro when we visited. The fresh made bread and marinara dipping sauce is to die for. They obviously make all their sauces fresh. I had my go to dish for testing a new place - lasagna. mozzarella was firm and the layers held together when i cut into them. Sauce was delicious, just enough, and fresh parmesan was flowing. The Wife had her go to dish, eggplant parmesan, a new wrinkle - thinly sliced eggplant - she cleaned her plate as did I. Nice wine selection and a very cozy atmosphere rounded out the experience. We went at 8pm and had a reservation and were seated immediately. It's not a very big place but worth the wait. I'll save the desert menu and pictures for our next trip. Enjoy!

Delicious food. Excellent service. Very reasonable prices. A must visit if you are in San Diego and love Italian food.

A chance find but an absolute gem. The service was excellent. Even off the menu request was received with genuine enthusiasm. Our party of six had various pasta dishes which were all fantastic. The salads could not have been better.

We chose this retaurant because of the proximity to the hotel. We did need to wait a full 2 minutes for the hostess to get off the phone but the bartender came by and sat us. The food was good - the protein selections are limited but the pizza was good. The seating is tight it was crowded. The service was OK but could have been friendlier.

We only discovered Pomodoro at the end of our hols, otherwise we would most certainly have returned. It was really busy on Saturday night (so make a reservation), but they found us a table after a wait at the sister pizzeria next door for a drink. Pasta arrabiata was excellent, loads of chicken and nice and spicy rich tomato sauce. In the American tradition, there was too much to eat at one sitting, so we got a box and had it for lunch the next day too. Do yourself a favour and visit Pomodoro - loads of the locals do, which says it all.

We arrived just as they were getting ready to open, but they told us sit wherever we liked. We didn't have to wait long. Very willing to answer questions and accommodate us. Shrimp with artichokes was good, but at hot as I would have liked (temperature wise). Vegetables were good. Filet with Gorgonzola was good and the sauce was good with the potatoes too.

A restaurant with a lot of promise let us down. This restaurant should be able to deliver excellent food but it fell at the first hurdle because the food was cold. We ordered starters. I ordered carpaccio which was ok but my buddy ordered bruschetta which was delivered as cold hard toast with cold tomatoes on top and slathered in green pesto.. Definitely not great., The two of us then ordered Mushroom ravioli. mains. Unfortunately, the food arrived tepid. This restaurant could do a lot better.

The Point Loma go-to for Italian. More casual and less expensive than the icon across the street, but every bit as good, except there’s no pizza. The entrées are varied so everyone in your group can find something: pasta, seafood, an exceptional osso bucco. Tonight the crème brûlée was a thin, watery disaster and the service was rushed but I’d still recommend it as they usually do better.

Recommended by local...under 10 minutes from Harbor Island hotel. Small, quaint spot, reservations handled well, we sat a very small table near waiter stand (only compliant) but the service and food was outstanding. We will return.

Avoid the ‘ORECCHIETTE PUGLIESI’. Reads nicely on the menu but is actually more like a watery Pot Noodle chicken broth with bits of pasta, sausage and rapini floating around in it. Perhaps if you love Ramen it might appeal more? Everyone else’s food looked okay though hence the 3 stars.

Pomodoros is a charming little Italian Restaurant that makes you feel you are in Italy. Wonderful Italian meals. Try their daily specials We've had excellent seafood dishes that are offered daily. Their chocolate covered gelato is also excellent. Great service, Reasonably priced. Highly recommend,

Bad service and attitude. Came with little kid, dishes didn't came out for an hour. Manager didn't apologize or offer discount. Looks they are through bad period

We are huge fans of sister restaurant, Osteria Romantica in La Jolla so we decided to try Pomodoro. We were not disappointed, good food, friendly, prompt service, great atmosphere. My only critique is that there was no need to travel to this restaurant. It was exactly like Osteria Romantica in every way, except location. So we will probably will not return to Pomodoro, only because Osteria is closer. Pick to closer one and you will not be disappointed.

The first thing I noticed here was the receptionist, Dahlia (sp?). She warmly welcomed us and with her slight Italian accent she set the stage for things to come. Our meals were terrific. Our server was Italian too. This restaurant is authentic Italian and being an Italian from New Jersey, I know from such things. Our experience here was all A+.

To start with the best part, the food was well-prepared Italy-italian, made in house pasta, and in huge portions. The setting, however, is small and cramped and the service, well uneven at best. We asked if we could get a half portion of gnocchi. The not-pleasantly-delivered answer was no. There was no small portion in the appetizer list, all of which were at least in the $10 range. As it turned out our two entrees were more than enough for a overly-filling meal. Order less, not more, at this restaurant. As to the sound, it was, for us awful. We were seated in a tiny table next to a service stand that servers continuously took things from or added them to noisily. There was a room with tableclothed-tables that maybe was a little quieter but it, like the rest of the place was packed. Do make a reservation but good luck with that. We left a message on their phone for a reservation but the line did not even identify the restaurant by name. We called back to be sure and were told we should have called back after their lunch break (They are not on Open Table nor can you book on line.) When we arrived our name was not on the list and the greeter (limited English) pointed to another name and said she probably got it wrong. As for service, our server was loud and in a hurry, brusque and did not add to the experience. Go for the food; be clear on what you're getting for the rest of the package.

There was much to like about Pomodoro when my family decided to eat dinner there one night while visiting San Diego recently. The hostess was friendly when we arrived (without reservations), and showed us to a table within a few minutes. The restaurant has a festive, family feel to it, and the menu featured the typical Italian favorites along with a few specials. But it soon became apparent that our waiter was overwhelmed. It took several minutes for him to take our order, and he kept looking around at other tables when he finally came to take our order. Our food arrived in a reasonable time, though, and it was good (but not great). I ordered the black squid ink pasta with scallops and shrimp, and thought the taste was a bit off. The rest of my family enjoyed their dishes. But it was a struggle to get anyone's attention to freshen our drinks, or ultimately, to get our check. It took close to 30 minutes for us to get our waiter's attention to get our check. The group at the table next to us had similar problems, and they had small children who were clearly getting antsy. It cast a pall over an otherwise decent (although not over-the-top) meal.

Fast and friendly service. We enjoyed the Montepulciano wine they suggested and the food was good. My husband liked his tortellini, and my rigatoni with chicken and mushrooms was tasty. Very large portions. The gelato was tasty and creamy for dessert.

Our experience was fabulous. The food was delicious. The portions were large. The marinara sauce that comes with the bread is to die for, so was the crème brûlée. The best dishes were the seafood linguini and the ravioli. Giuseppe, our server, made us feel at home with excellent service, humour and good recommendations.

What a great find! This family run restaurant was just what we needed after a day of sightseeing. The staff was attentive, keeping a watchful eye to make sure their customers were well taken care of. I have never had such wonderful spaghetti and meatballs- such a generous serving, too! My husband really enjoyed his lasagna also.

My family ate here at absolutely loved it! I had the cioppino (think seafood stew with a thin broth) and it was outstanding. My wife and boys had various pastas and everyone enjoyed their food. The service was amazing. The lead waiter was very friendly and inviting. The restaurant is a short walk away from parts of the harbor, so we went on a nice walk from here after our dinner as well. We'd definitely go back if we're ever in San Diego again in the future.

Our dinner at Pomodoro was outstanding. The food consistent of very generous portions at reasonable prices with vey attentive and helpful staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and highly recommend Pomodoro.

We enjoyed a leisurely lunch together featuring some of the house made pastas. We shared plates to taste from the mushroom Ravioli , sausage and tortellini and the lamb with parpedelle. All were fresh and different sauces...fast service, reasonable prices and on par with the restaurants in Little Italy SD.

This was our second time enjoying a wonderful dinner. Food and service is great. Good wine list or beer. Feels like you are in Italy, waiters speak the language. Will come here again when visiting San Diego.

I was referred to this fabulous Italian restaurant by a great friend of mine. We went in to find a great family feeling in this restaurant where we were greeted and seated right away. Lucky we did not have to wait, however after our experience that night I would not hesitate to wait to dine here again. Giuseppe was our Waiter which was great, very accommodating. My Girlfriend wanted something that wasn't exactly on the menu, Not a Problem they have you covered. We enjoyed our dinner and had a great experience, when thinking of going somewhere the next night, we went back. Yes 2 nights in a row. We were here in San Diego on Vacation. If you are ever near San Diego this place is a Must Go when it comes to a great Italian Ristorante experience. Enjoy!!!

Wonderful experience recently at this fine restaurant. It has all the traditional italian favorites with pasta, meats and chicken dishes and seafood. The gnocchi was particularly good and all the dishes we had (pasta, gnocchi) were very good. Good wine selection.

Felt like we were having real Italian food. Staff pleasant. Food delicious. Outdoor seating, pleasant environment. We walked there from our hotel. Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner there.

We discovered this neighborhood spot several years ago and always make a point of enjoying a meal whenever we're in the San Diego area. Great place off the beaten path in Point Loma. The food is terrific/ authentic Italian. Must haves- osso buco, pasta carbonara, risotto & tiramisu. The staff is great- true Italians! Put this place on your list!

Excellent local spot for authentic Italian food. All made fresh to order and very tasty. Not a flashy place and more of a locals haunt but the food and service were excellent and the three of us enjoyed a really good meal and great value for the quality and quantity. Will definitely go back

One of the finest Italian places in Point Loma and San Diego... Everything was spot on, even the Italian waiters made us feel like we were on the coast of Italy...Don't miss, and order the Osso Bucco...WOW !!!

A fine find! We were greeted by people speaking Italian and friendly. The ambience is friendly happy people- no TV, no music - with basic effective tables. The food was wonderful - I had black linguine with seafood - just great. If I hadn't been so tired, it would have one of the best meals ever.

We have eaten here twice recently and stepping into the inside dining room is like going into nana's kitchen in Italy. Wine bottles on the walls, brown and white checkered table cloths, and the aroma of fabulous food. The service is outstanding, and the staff has been attentive on both visits. Their menu is varied and they have a good wine selection. The cannoli is delicious and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the bread pudding. The outdoor seating is a casual setting and looks like it would be a great place to sit for a summer meal.

Authentic Italian! The staff we had was definitely Italian. Service was excellent. The food was fantastic. I would go back to this restaurant in a heart beat. The atmosphere is great. The only downside is the parking — you have to find parking on the street. Otherwise, there is nothing negative to say — great place.

My friends were told about this restaurant so we decided to try it. I’m super happy we did. It’s a cute place and the service was impeccable. Although I wasn’t in love with my dish (I ordered something I shouldn’t have because of all the cheese-upsets my stomach) my friends were practically licking their fingers. We especially loved that they would make any dish you ask for. Parking is scarce.

Had a gift certificate since 2013 so off we went. It’s in Point Loma which for us is a pain to get to and parking is street and sparse.?I had the swordfish which was ample and tasty, started with a salad. Good portion of salad. Could be split. My wife had the Caesar salad and filet with Gorgonzola sauce. She loved it.

My boyfriend and I were thinking of a place we could go for dinner with a friend close to his Point Loma/San Diego home. Pomodoro was a place he wanted to take me before but we just didn't get there. Now was our chance to see what we were missing. I made a reservation for 5:30 and then I had to change it to 8:30. They were very accommodating with the change and when we arrived they gave us a choice to sit inside or on the patio (warm and heated). We chose the patio. I could see that, during the summer months, the patio would be a big hit. The place was nice, casual. The waiter was very attentive. We ordered to salads to share and start and then we each ordered our own meal. I had the gnocchi (a staple order for me when I go for Italian), our friend had lasagna and my bf had the chicken with mushrooms. When my order came, I knew i would never be able to eat that much but I gave it a try. The boys ate theirs heartily and had room for dessert. I didn't have room but watched them devour tiramisu without a blink of an eye. By the time we were finished, the restaurant was empty but they didn't rush us. I would go to this restaurant again. I am not a person who thrives on italian cuisine. In fact I am a snob when it comes to authentic Italian food. This was good. Ambiance is very important to me. A double plus on that.

After having dined here several times in 2011 on our San Diego trip, we returned to enjoy another great dinner. With the fire pit burning nearby and our wonderful server, we were happy to see nothing had changed. Still a terrific neighborhood restaurant worthy of frequent visits.

A nice, varied menu of Italian dishes. House made sausage in the orechette was stunning. A very small space and terrible chairs, but great option right on harbor island.

Black Linguine. Perfecto! 8 people. 8 different items. Everyone loved the food. Nice atmosphere. Good service. The waiter speaks Italian.

We were in town visiting and staying on shelter island. The restaurant was a nice walk from our hotel. I had tortellini my son had veal. Both were well prepared. Bread was warm will marinara sauce for dipping. We each had a Cold bottle of peroni Overall lovely meal. Good value and good service from friendly waitress and young man bussing table. Highly recommend.

I'm so glad I decided to search for Italian restaurants outside of the Little Italy area. Our food was authentic, amazing and at least $40 cheaper for three people than it would have been downtown. Three entrees, a glass of wine and an appetizer was under $70. Our waiter was charming and attentive, and even gave us a free dessert because the place was packed and it took a bit longer than normal to receive our entrees. All three of us had enough leftovers to have for lunch the next day. I'll definitely be going back to Pomodoro again next year when I'm in the area!

We ate here last night and had one of the best Italian meals I have ever had. Very delicious meals. I had the Black Linguine, which was a seafood dish with shrimp, scallops and other seafood in a tomato cream sauce that was absolutely delicious. My date had Eggplant Parmesan that was the best I have ever tasted. The service was very good and very friendly. San Diego is blessed with several wonderful Italian restaurants and this is definitely one of the best. I will be back.

We have visited Pomodoro several times and have come to the conclusion; Pomodoro is in our opinion the best restaurent in San Diego. The service is quick and good. There is a very varied menu with many delicious dishes that are extremely well-prepared and with great flavors. The wine list is very interesting and varied and lovely wines from different countries - some are excellent and even reasonable prices.

Very good pasta, cosy place and very nice people. We ordered a carbonara & the penne arrabiata. Just great taste ❤️ Also the desert & coffee are excellent!!!

A cuisine that has very little to send to an excellent restaurant in Italy. Sober but refined environment, varied typically Italian menu and cuisine that satisfies even the most demanding (Italian) palate. The staff is very friendly and kind and finally an unbeatable quality/price ratio for the USA. We came here by chance on the first evening with the children and after a week spent in the most disparate restaurants around the USA we decided to be here for dinner for the second time in a row. Compliments !!!

The pasta was great and the location was fun, but the restaurant was understaffed. We barely saw our waiter and it took a very long time to get the check. Disappointing.

Great service, food was amazing and fresh and the atmosphere was buzzing. Would definately recommend!

Nice enclosed patio with excellent service. Had a carpaccio appetizer that was excellent. We both had pastas that were very good. Large menu.

A nice old-school Italian restaurant in a quiet San Diego spot near the harbor. The food is good and the staff is friendly. Very nice.

Friendly and fast service, tasty meals (great bread !), large portions and good affordable wines, red house-wine is 25$ and is very good. Had a nice dinner here thanks !

Went on a Saturday night. The restaurant was crazy busy, 5 waiters walked past us and we waited a good 10 mins before being seated having booked. We were seated near the kitchen and it was very stuffy with smoke and v hot....the air con was on but it was still roasting. Nice buzzy atmosphere. Overwhelming menu....just too much to choose. We had the carpaccio to share followed by pollo milense and the special seafood pomodora. All portions very big but the quality was average. The breadcrumbs very thick and doughy. My sauce on the seafood was sloppy and tasted like the complimentary dip that you get on arrival. None of it reflected the delicate italian food we are used to in England at several of the italian restaurants we eat at. Size over substance...dissapointed.

Flawless dining experience. The pasta we had was outstanding. Young, energetic staff. The highlight was the food.

We came here based on reviews and we're glad we did. Both the food and the service was excellent. They are very accommodating if you want something different other than what's offered. Come early and they're not too busy.

3 years ago on a visit to San Diego someone recommended this neighborhood restaurant. Instead we spent a fortune downtown. This trip we skipped the tourist trap and went to Pomodoro for dinner. I can't say enough good things about the food and the staff. A real local, neighborhood find. The waiters are fabulous, ask them for recommendations. The fact that our waiter is really Italian, accent and all, just added to our experience. We had a hard time deciding what to order so we asked our waiter and he gave us a great recommendation. I was hooked with the bread and dipping sauce. Liquid, garden fresh tomato sauce with basil. Absolutely addicting. Spaghetti & meatballs, my husbands favorite and something I would never order was out of this world! I had the nightly special of Osso Buco and was treated to the best version I've ever had. Reasonable prices, oversized servings, wonderful atmosphere. One of the places we will return to on any visit to the San Diego (Shelter Island) area.

Mmmmm what can I tell you the food is amazing. I was in San Diego visiting friends for a few days and this was one of a few of the restaurants we had dinner. The artichoke heart from their appetizer menus are delicious. My spaghetti and meatballs were absolutely wonderful and plentiful with a to go box for home. I do advise if you are taking a few friends that you make reservations for 5 or more people, if it's only two it's quick seating. I will we going back to this place when in San Diego again. Thanks to my friends for sharing this place with us

This is a wonderful small place with great atmosphere and wonderful food. The food is authentically Italian- we had caprese salad, the carbonara and a wonderful bottle of wine from Montepulciano. Can't wait for our next visit!

For my birthday, a party of 10 of us ate outside under the twinkly lights. The server was hilarious but I didn't catch his name. From the bread at the outset...to the salads...to the outstanding swordfish, pastas, lasagnas, etc., everyone had a dazzling time. I highly recommend this restaurant and I will be back! Loved sharing the tiramisu with 10 spoons. Bravo.

After visiting the place for a light dinner we came back again gladly. The food is really tasty (we tried risotto, salads, pasta, scallops) and the service was great: the waiter was one step ahead. We got split plates when we wanted to share (without explicitly asking), take away boxes well packed.

my wife and I went without reservations and arrived just before the place really filled up. It appears to be popular with good reason! Food was really quite good, seafood was fresh and not over cooked!

Always good here. Portions are large so splitting helps or ask for a box when food is served. Reservations are necessary.

Quaint restaurant on Shelter Island. Great service with traditional Italian dishes. Bustling with families and locals.

When it comes to a decision on where to go for a great dinner, plus delicious wine, on top of the family atmosphere most definitely without a 2nd thought will be Pomodoro. One of our favorite of all times is the Black Linguine I can come and order it every single time and I can enjoy it as much as if it was the first time I've got to try it. All of the staff make us feel welcome always with a smile. Thank you all Pomodoro Staff you're all great on customer service keep it up.

Food is WONDERFUL; service is EXCELLENT; entrance and area outside is an embarrassment! Clean up, repair outside furniture; pull a few weeds, fix the phone hanging off the wall. These issues should be a “no brainer”! We’ve been good customers for years & we are concerned!

Stopped for dinner with out of town family and we weren't disappointed. Restaurant is small and they do have some outdoor seating. Parking is a bit of a hassle - we had to park down the street and walk a bit, but not a deal breaker unless you have someone with limited mobility. Portions were very large. We started with an antipasto that had an excellent selection of meats, imported cheeses, artichoke and olives - no "filler" lettuce - big plus. Bread was warm and dipping sauce was substantial - not watery. The cavatelli was excellent - not too "doughy". I asked for a marinara sauce instead of the sauce noted on the menu and wasn't disappointed. You could see the fresh spices and diced tomatoes, and it was just thick enough to stick to the pasta. Also asked for a side order of meatballs - there were SIX in the serving, in sauce....plenty for everyone at the table! Service was pretty quick, even though the restaurant was pretty crowded. We had tiramisu for dessert - I wasn't really thrilled - it seemed to be a little dry and "store bought". But would we go there for dinner again? You bet!

Authentic classic Italian cuisine at its finest in a setting so unassuming and romantic it will take you on a journey straight to the old world where the accents are as rich as the food and the experience is as soft as the candlelight as as gentle as the warm evening air.

This restaurant was recommended by the place we were staying. It was an excellent choice for us. It was small and comfortable with great food. The wait staff was very helpful and pleasant despite the humidity and heat due to the unusual weather. We will definitely be back

Went into this restaurant looking for pasta and I was not disappointed! You could tell the pasta and sauces were all homemade and authentic! It was fantastic, I will definitely return and recommend to Friends!

We have eaten here several times. It's a busy little restaurant, tables are pretty close together. The waitstaff are very helpful and efficient. Loved one waiter who came from Italy recently who spoke with a heavy accent. The calamari fritti (combination of calamari and zucchini deep fried) is very good. The Caesar salad is very good. We usually order off the Specials menu, which is even bigger than the regular menu. I have had the swordfish that comes with a wonderful creamy sauce with mushrooms and artichokes, and we have had the baked eggplant which is very good. We have taken friends there and haven't been disappointed yet. The website has prices, but the special menu is not listed as it most likely changes almost daily.

Fantastic and friendly waitstaff , cosy restaurant, and incredible tasting food for the price . Would definitely go back :)

Based on the suggestion of a stranger we visited this place and were satisfied with the meal. It was tasty enough, but nothing really special. Our waiter seemed more interested in yapping to the attractive and personable hostess than he did providing anything related to attentive service. A couple (who seemed to be locals) were seated next to our table and the staff came and seemed to just gush over them. Their waitress stood there well over ten minutes and yapped with them, basically ignoring her other tables that were seated well before the local couple. The brightest spot was the friendly and attentive busboy, who was working hard and filling our glasses when our waiter couldn't be found.

The lasagna was swimming in sauce like soup and the linguini de Mar was dry and flavorless. This wasn't our first time there but I'm sure it's our last.

We visited here twice so far on our vacation. The atmosphere is so nice, small, quaint and authentic. Great service and excellent food. It did not disappoint. They were also very friendly to our two little girls and gave us a over all great experience.

The food didn't blow me away but it was good. The staff were very friendly and helpful (I was dining with 4 12 year old girls). Took a while for the food to arrive. Portions are HUGE.

We went here for dinner on a warm evening & were asked if we had a reservation. They seated us & the couple after without reservations so it seemed a little pretentious to ask this. We were seated on a covered patio. The sun was strong. The fruit flies bothered us throughout the meal. I ordered a special, Rigatoni with chicken, tomato, mushroom, & spinach. I was surprised that the tomato was raw. I would have liked it better if the tomatoes were sautéed. Service was not good. They were probably understaffed. I was never offered a refill. The place was packed in very closely, so they probably could not accommodate more staff. I have to say I was not that impressed with the food or the service.

. . . because in your enthusiasm to slurp the last bit of outstanding flavor off your plate, you will spill it before it gets to your mouth. No, I don't really eat that way. It takes a spectacular salmon ravioli in leek-cream sauce to put me over the edge. Or a falling off the bone ossobucco roasted all day with a bay-seasoned vegetable medley poured over a bed of mushroom risotto. Or a filet mignon topped with savory Gorgonzola and sauce. It seems everything is done to perfection, every time. Yes I went home with mysterious drips of something on my shirt , but the luscious meal put me on too much sensory overload to care. I believe they intend their salads for two, as they are small mountains of just picked local organic greens. My favorite : Tre Sapori salad with Belgian endive, radicchio, aurgula topped with goat cheese and walnuts. For three of us we had artichokes cooked into a delicate tenderness and drizzled with herbed olive oil and the salad, a perfect amount to share. One server does nothing but run over to your table to see if you would like anything topped with fresh grated parmesan. Uh . . YES please ! We fell on it like refugees, an Epicurean delight in an Old World atmosphere. We combined our salad and appetizer with three entrees and had some of each entree to take home. Most of their entrees are very generous. Having eaten here before, I can tell you their meals are just as delicious the next day too. Eggplant Parmesan especially tasty. Easy to find, near Shelter Island in Point Loma, the red Pomodoro sign on the corner and the quaint open air café will enchant you. Excellent wine list. Italian servers dash between the tables and give quick attention to requests. With a $32 bottle of single vineyard Italian red plus our meals was $40 each. I'm astonished ! The freshness, subtle mingling and complexity of flavors and the gracious service made this a night to remember. They fill up fast on weekend nights, so either go at 5 pm or make a reservation.

I have been going here for years, and I love the continuity of the dishes and the prices. The staff is always accommodating and lunch on the weekends is a treat because it is quiet on the patio. Try the Napoleon dessert! Who cares about WiFi? Talk to whoever you are there with and what is Halal food?

My wife, daughter and I called in in our 2nd night in San Diego, staying on nearby Shelter Island. Stay down straight away inside. We were offered outside but it was chilly. Not so inside where it was absolutely roasting! Food options were many. Lots of pasta dishes and being a true Italian, no pizzas: these were available next door at sister restaurant Pummaro. While we were waiting for the entrees, some lovely bread roiled. Yum. Then the pasta came and it was huge, but very very tasty. I struggled to finish and was still piling it in after I was full - it was that good. None of us managed to finish but we were very satisfied. Service was very attentive, we wanted for nothing. Highly recommended.

I guess we'd never had an authentic Italian menu before, but they had lots to offer and were very helpful. Cute place, and we will go back next time.

My daughter and I got there and there was no one in the front area to recieve us. We had to sit ourselves down and find where they kept their menu.. After waiting ten to fifteen minutes, someone finally came to take our order. The food wasnt that good either. This was our forst experience being there and I would never go back. Such a horrible experience and service.

we had a plate of Italian salami etc. as a started. it was fabulous. then we had a pizza which was the best one I have had in the u.s. the restaurant is a bit noisy but very appealing and it was close to our hotel on shelter island. service was great as well

I don't know what real Italian is. I've been to Italy, and the food was so underwhelming. This place on the other hand was excellent! This is a great small restaurant that won't disappoint. The staff is also excellent. Everthing from the bread to desert is topnotch. Try this place out, you'll be happy you did.

Discovered Pummaro's after Pomodoro's recommended their sister restaurant because they had a long wait list. Pummaro's is literally next door, the hostess personally walked us over. (Very nice gesture and greatly appreciated.) We were told it's the same owners as Pomodoro's. Warm, casual, modern and friendly atmosphere with a great bar as a focal point. Pummaro's recently opened so it wasn't crowded early, but it was cozy, it did fill up around 8:00 PM. We had great service. Our family ordered pasta dishes and enjoyed them very much. For those who are gluten conscious, the Scarpariello is outstanding. They also have gluten free pasta on request. Highly recommend!

Food and wine was yummy. Pasta melts in your mouth. Everyone at table ordered something different, and all were pleased. I had the gnocchi - with Alfredo sauce "au gratin" -YUMMY! Authentic cuisine and great sea air. Problem with sea air- gnats! Lol. But will definitely come back!!

Pomodoro is a very cute place. The inside dining room is adorable and the patio is comfortable as well. They have an extensive menu with many options, plus a good wine list. We had a delicious glass of Italian red wine. The food portions are large here and prices are not over the top. The service was excellent and our meals were delivered still piping hot. This restaurant is a good spot for family dining and more casual dinner experience.

My wife and I ate here twice on a recent trip to Point Loma. She had two different veal dishes (one of which I shared with a salad) and on another visit I had oysters on the half shell and eggplant parmigiana The veal dishes each had a nice side of pasta. Eggplant parmigiana is my favorite italian dish. In the past it has been served on a plate with a side of pasta and the parmesan and sauce on top of the eggplant. Mine was served in a bowl with the eggplant covered with a bowl full of sauce. The eggplant flavor was overwhelmed by the sauce unfortunately. But the two desserts we had, tiramusu and pecan ice cream, and the excellent wine list that was very fairly priced more than made up for it. We will be back. I will just order a different dish.

On a very untypical, chilly, wet Monday night in San Diego, when most nearby restaurants were either closed or fully booked, we were grateful to Pomodoro for managing to find us a table without a reservation. This is a cosy, genuine Italian restaurant with friendly staff and a warm, buzzy atmosphere. The menu is entirely as one would expect with few surprises and the food ok but nothing out of the ordinary. The minestrone soup was more simply a jumble of vegetables (mainly carrots) than the classic version. The penne pasta with chorizio and bell peppers was filling and warming but too sweet for my taste. Portions were enormous - almost everyone was asking for 'doggy bags' to go. The house wine was good but the beer selection limited with various brands on the menu not available. In short Pomodoro is a good option for ok food in a convivial atmosphere, delivering an authentic Italian experience but no different from thousands of other Italian restaurants in Europe and the U.S.

Pomodoro Ristorante Italiano is a small restaurant. The food is amazing, and the wait staff is very knowledgable about both their food and their wines. It is the epitome of the small, family run restaurant. Reservations are recommended on weekend nights, as the dining area is very small and fills very quickly. I've never failed to leave satisfied after eating there, whether it was a family dinner, dinner with my wife, dinner with colleagues, or a solo dinner.

We went here on a Sunday night after arriving in San Diego. It was fairly busy but staff was very friendly and helpful. The tables are a bit small if you are at a table for two. They gave us some lovely fresh bread to start. We both ended up having the halibut with pasta and mussels. I've never seen such large pieces of halibut! The sauce was very delicious and complimentary to the pasta and seafood. The portions were huge -- couldn't finish. Which was a little disappointing because I really wanted to try the strawberry neopolitan dessert (I believe it was called). Great service, nice menu variety and delicious food. Definitely recommend if you are looking for Italian in Point Loma.

Welcome cozy and large menu. Everyone working had Italian accent and charm. Hard to choose from so many menu options. Nice fire pit outside was a little warm inside. Large wine selection. And bread at table with marina.
Not kid friendly
The food was good...not great but pretty good and not very expensive. I would give it 3.75 stars. The area is nice and the restaurant is quaint. We were there at opening since we have kids and our table and chairs were dirty and they didn't bother to clean them before seating us. We called in advance to ask about a kids menu which they said they didn't have but said they could make a kid's size portion. So, we went. Kids had butter noodles which is their go-to at Italian. Each bowl of butter noodles was $15 which is way more than we have ever paid and it was nothing special and didn't come with anything on the side or a drink. At least our meals came with soggy veggies on the side.
