Absolutely amazing!! Had the curry seafood and highly recommend. Flavors are bold and the presentations are incredible (friend got fried grouper which won the night!). Staff couldn’t have been more friendly, professional and helpful.

We saw a “Best Thing I Ever Ate” segment on TV and it featured the Lobster Fried Rice. Curiosity drove us to immediately make a reservation. The spring rolls were exceptional. Steamed dumplings, while delicious, were more ordinary. We shared the fried rice and loved it. Try the craft cocktails. Delicious too. Our server, Martin, was professional and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. You can also bring wine for a reasonable corkage fee. Definitely on our list for a return visit.

The food, service, and ambiance...spectacular! Our waitress had a personality out of this world that made my b-day get together one of the best in a long time!

First, it's southern/asian fusion...that should be enough to bring you to this restaurant! I was in Atlanta for a conference and always look for local places when away. The bellman at my hotel mentioned this spot so I took him up on the recommendation. Seriously, just go eat this food! From appetizer to main course, my taste buds were dancing! I did not have dessert, though it looked amazing...I was just too full! If I return to Atlanta, this may be my first stop!

What a great place. The food is super flavorful, the service is attentive, the cocktails are interesting and the scene is lively. Three is us shared the grouper and the lobster fried rice and both were terrific. The toasted pound cake dessert is off the charts good. But share it or you’ll be diabetic by the end.

Great food and great atmosphere! The food is fresh and delicious. The staff especially the bartenders (particular Mike) are so cool and friendly. They ordered a limo to take me back to my hotel. This is so nice! I’ve Never been offered something like this. Will definitely come back!

I saw this restaurant on a TV show so I decided to give it a try. I had a mixed seafood eggroll and lobster fried rice. All I can say is WOW. If you like Asian inspired food you will not be disappointed. The place was very crowded (I know why now) but service moved along fairly quickly. The highlight of the entire meal is I got to talk to Calvin, he was cooking that night.

We visited Poor Calvin's for the first time. We had such a great experience from our waiter down to the General Manager of the restaurant. Extremely clean and beautiful restaurant. Exceptional food and drinks omg 😋. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. Can't wait to visit again. From the Virgin Islands ladies.

I lived in Atlanta for 20 years and have been returning for business since my departure in 2006. Last night was my first experience at Poor Calvins but shall certainly not be my last. The food was beyond amazing. Lobster Wontons to the best Lamb Chops with goat cheese and lavender jam. James, the GM, along with the wait staff make you feel you are the most special people in the room. The staff is so knowledgeable and have an exuberance you do not find these days in most restaurants. The menu is so diverse and interesting you want to return to try everything.

Robert was a great waiter. All food was very flavorful. We had a pork dish, shrimp and scallops with veggies and ink pasta, vegetable tofu, Grouper with pineapple. Lobster Rangoon appetizer was probably one of the best appetizers I’ve ever had!! Portions were large and shareable if you have an appetizer. Nice evening— thank you!

This place is so good and so fun! I didn’t have a reservation, I just walked up and was able to get a seat at the bar (on a Monday night). The bar staff was BUSY! But if you’re patient and kind they will help you out. I wanted the lobster fried rice cause that’s what they’re known for but every barman said to go with the lamb chops so I gave it a go (I was a little nervous having eaten my fair share of lamb abroad). I was not disappointed, the flavor pallet of this dish continued to unfold with every bite. It was so delicious!! On the plate was lamb chops in a curry sauce (who knew that was a good combo), potato, and asparagus. It was plenty filling. I tried the Frankly My Dear drink which was good but a tad sweet. I also tried the gin & tonic because they make their own tonic. It also had a sweeter profile but still tasted very good. The bartender will make you anything that you like, such good people. A lot of things are made in house so talk to the staff and they’ll give you the inside scoop. No detail is missed, on my G&T they sprinkled gold flakes over the rosemary, loved it!! I was fortunate enough to sit next to a woman celebrating her birthday and she shared the suspension cake with me, oh man, it was delicious!!! If you’re not from the area, they do suggest to Uber over as the park across from the restaurant is sketch so best to be safe. I absolutely loved the vibe and hope to visit again on future visits to Atlanta. Thank you Poor Calvins staff!

Our drinks, the innovative offerings and the quality of the meal. This is one of the best places we have eaten My family are all adults, don’t think I would take rambunctious young folks here Instant favorite ‘

First time visiting and definitely NOT the last! Went with friends and Lowla, our pre-show entertainment and amazing server was right everything on the menu is dah-vine “sha-na-na!” We didn’t want to leave except for the show we were off to see. Across the street from the lovely dog park and offers valet parking - we were told they will shuttle you to the Fox! Who knew? We had coconut shrimp, seafood rolls and beignets for apps. More please!!! Then three of us had the lobster fried rice and 1 had the crispy beef. One of our friends said “Ice never wanted asian cuisine and didn’t really like” now she does she-na-na (that one is for you Lowla). You must go and have a wonderful time feeling like you walked into your hip friends house where there is a festive atmosphere surrounded by great food.

Made reservations but was able to be seated early. Calamari was just ok. Lobster fried rice was very good. Beef tips were good. Sangria and Bar drinks were good. Lobster Mac and cheese could have used more lobster. The dessert with peaches was great too. Service was good.

Poor Calvins gives a strange first impression as it is in dicey area across from Piedmont Park and skinny, loud bar at entrance. To get seated at table, after squeezing through the skinny bar you walk through kitchen. Once you get seated, you are in for an enjoyable dinning experience. Very unique drinks and appetizers especially. Some of them sound weird but when you try are extremely tasty such as deviled eggs. The dinners were a mix of thai dishes prepared slightly differently and southern cooking with a twist. All of us had very different dishes and loved what we had. The four of us thought we were sampling one dessert..haha. The single dessert of pound cake with caramelized bananas and homemade peach ice cream was HUGE..but also good. Also, we loved the leisureliness of the experience with the waitress being patient to take group photos. It also has an electric mix of clientele so fun to people watch.

Horrible service, apparently lost our reservation and put us on the back burner for an hour with no communication or accommodation whatsoever as they eagerly awaited their local regulars whom they were holding open seats for with no apparent reservation . I give every benefit possible to avoid giving bad reviews but this one is well deserved.

This food is ultra-creative and served nicely. The wait staff is up to date on all the menu items and can answer any questions so you don’t doubt what is about to come your way. We loved the food and the service. The bar service is excellent and is also creative.

On a trip from an Uber driver, we went to Poor Calvins- unaware that we would be entering a " happening place:, Lots of young couples, girl groups, friend tables, - in short, good people watching. We had an end table outside and felt safe- especially after having our temperature taken and insistance on masks. We were near a heater that didnt work, but we warmed up with some of the spicy dishes. I ordered my favorite southern dish- friend green tomatoes and it came in fusion form- which is the MO of the restaurant. I liked them a lot although oddly enough I think the dish shines more with thinner tomatoes than the thicker ones we were served, The lobster won tons were less successful although our Uber driver had loved the dish- so maybe it was an off night. Didn't like the summer roles at all- boring- all lettuce and some spicy sauce. But the crispy beef made us total fans- it is a delicious dish- and though we were over full by that time we ate almost all of it. It was sweet, crispy, copious and addictive. Bravo on that one! The place was an upper- and highly recommended...

Understated gourmet goodness where everything we ordered was a proud work of art by the kitchen or bar! A little off the beaten path and a little quirky but that's what makes it fun. It ain't cheap and they take reservations.

Should be top restaurant in all of Atlanta. The interior is fairly small but there’s a patio with 5-6 tables and a large wrap around porch filled with tables. A reservation is a must. The menu is extensive and everything was perfect. The service was unbelievably good. I have nothing bad to say - we had a wonderful experience. Can’t wait to return!

My wife and I were in town for two nights and noticed that Poor Calvins was rated very high as a Thai restaurant…but with a southern twist! The concierge at our hotel tried to get us in but was unable to. I called later and was fortunate enough to be offered bar seating. We are so glad that we took it! We shared the lobster wonton appetizer. It was unique and delicious! We both ordered a main dish that included lobster, one with the crispy beef and one with shrimp curry! They were both fabulous! But the real show stopper, and this was not anticipated, was the toasted pound cake desert…possibly the most delicious cake / mixture of goodness that I have ever had! Definitely, definitely worth a visit!!

Everything about this meal and experience were outstanding. The service was fast and friendly & our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and even gave us a quick story about the chef and his culinary background. The dishes are all unique and delicious. It’s the kind of food you just can’t replicate at home. The combination of ingredients and flavors were amazing. My new go to place in Atlanta.

The portions were large and the flavors were packed in every bite. The pound cake dessert was awesome and colorful. Parking is made easy with the valet at the entrance.

From beginning to end, everything at Poor Calvin’s was impressive. The service was attentive and friendly and the food and drinks were AMAZING. This is our new Atlanta favorite, and the best restaurant meal either one of us can remember. My husband has the lobster fried rice and I had the crispy beef. Both had beautiful presentation with lots of bright fresh vegetables and were absolutely delicious. The sangria was definitely the best I have had (also had a booze kick — not the typical lightweight drink). The restaurant does get quite noisy, but I love to watch the hustle and bustle so didn’t mind.

This is such a popular restaurant and there’s no need to guess why. I’m in Atlanta regularly and I always pay PC a visit. And I will keep visiting PC as long as they keep serving my favorite dish… lobster fried rice. The servers are always very knowledgeable and offer great suggestions. You can surely tell PC has set expectations for their food, the servers, and your experience.

Delicious fusion of flavors, I recommend this elegant restaurant. It is a place to which I would return

A neat ambience in a refurbished house or office. Duck dynasty was amazing and Scallops curry had a great Thai inspired flavor. chocolate/Carmel covered apple is amazing.

We are so sad that we did not discover this place until the last night of our trip. We were disappointed with the dessert offerings of the restaurants in Midtown until we reviewed Poor Calvin’s. We walked over after dinner to try the Toasted Poundcake. We came for that but enjoyed so much more. We were greeted by the host whom I think was named James. He was very friendly and accommodating. We sat at the bar and were attended to by Jordan and Malik. The drinks were wonderful. Jordan was very informative about the menu and gave wonderful suggestions. My husband had the lobster wontons which were out of this world. We each had a few drinks. I had the Long Island tiki which was quite interesting especially if you like chai. My husband had the Rhett old fashion and the Jasmine Manhattan which was fantastic. Then the item we walked over a mile to try. Toasted Pound cake. I would have walked 5 miles for this and probably should as it is enough for 4. The combinations of flavors were like none other. I cannot say enough about this dessert. If you are anywhere near Atlanta you need to come here. We are so disappointed we could not stay longer to enjoy and try everything this restaurant has to offer.

They overbook their tables. So even if you have a reservation you need to wait 20-30 min. Some corses are very good. My duck main course was barely ok. The temperature in the dining room was sub-zero. I asked to raised the temperature a couple of times….when other customers expressed the same concern they finally turned off

Justin, our server was very attentive. Everything was good. They had a special menu tonight so we order those items. The beef short rib was delicious. It come with kale potatoes with tiger shrimp and asparagus. They also served a chocolate cheesecake with pistachio ice cream, brought to us by Calvin. It was a great daye night!

Presentation is as beautiful as the food is delicious!!! Poor Calvin’s is truly a downtown Atlanta gem!!!

I could not possibly recommend this restaurant more. It definitely has an eclectic menu with a mix of South Asian and southern influences. Imagine shrimp curry with a side of mac-and-cheese. The menu is very shellfish based - a lot of dishes have lobster or shrimp. But, there are vegetarian and non shellfish options. The chicken and pork dumpling appetizer was delicious. The noodles could be vegetarian or tofu. I do not eat fish and felt like I had enough options and ended up with crispy beef and vegetables (so tasty!). I had enough for lunch the next day. Our server, who was incredibly friendly, warned about food/drinks being spicy, but I did not find it overwhelmingly so. Everything had a nice bite to it but I didn't find it overly hot. The presentation of the dishes and drinks was on point. Cocktails were interesting twists on the classics such as lychee and espresso martinis, manhattans, plantation drinks, etc. I had a cocktail that came out with a flaming rum float. It was a bit spicy but delicious. The decor is also eclectic with a mix of continental, Thai, and other South Asian styles. Dark carved woods, bright lush fabrics, and golden statuary. It has indoor and outdoor space.

We had some friends in from out of town & took them to Poor Calvin's. Great choice. We started with an appetizer of Calamari ($13). It was absolutely delicious, but we should have skipped appetizers because the entree portions are so large. My wife & her friend shared the fried chicken ($25). It was excellent & they left some over. It was served with lobster mac & cheese. They ordered a side of bok choy ($8). I had the special of the day, seabass over risotto & a lobster tail ($55). Yes it was pricey but it was worth every penny. The risotto was the best risotto I have ever had. So tasty with a seafood base. The sea bass was a large delicious piece, served over asparagus. The lobster tail was taken mostly out of the shell. I was fantastic. My friend had the crispy beef ($25). It was excellent. You must, I repeat, try their desserts. They are hugh & can be shared by up to 4 people. We shared the red velvet cake ($12). No your normal red velvet cake. It was the largest piece of cake I'd ever seen & it was delicious. Our server Mac was great. The atmosphere in this small house is very nice. Noise level a little above average but not bad. This is a complete experience. Reservations are a must.

Really enjoyed the food and the way it was presented. We got quick service. My only complaint is that it is a bit noisy so I found it hard to have a conversation at times.

Best frogs legs ever! Tasty and juicy! Service was amazing and helpful. Best bbq ribs we have ever had and we’ve had a lot! Can’t say enough positive things about this wonderful restaurant.

Pros: Friendly waitress, Nice atmosphere Cons: Food. It appears to be some kind of asian/southwest fusion - bleh. Everything was spiced. Fine I expected that but it was all the same spice with the same heat. Except for the greens which I was told would be a little sweet to off set the heat. It was so sweet it was like eating candy. No nuance or layers or subtlety of flavor. Just a mash of spicy and sweet. We were told the chef/owner was in the house/kitchen. That just makes the mess we were served worse.

Our dinner at Poor Calvin's was truly excellent. The appetizers were excellent and the entrees even more excellent. There were 5 of us so we were able to taste many dishes, all superb. Our server/guide Enoch Lee was awesome. We had lovely wine (at Enoch's direction) that complimented the food perfectly. Our group came from the USA, Canada, Hong Kong and Thailand. I'm not sure when we'll get back to Atlanta but we will and Poor Calvin's will be at the top of our dining list. One thing to note is that the portions are quite generous. Come hungry.

The food, the service, the lychee martini - all topnotch. Short trip to Atlanta, so many restaurants. So glad this was one of my choices. Pad Thai, YES! Duck Dynasty for my partner. All delicious!

Brought the daughter here for her 17th birthday. Great choice - fantastic food that appeals to all tastes! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and fresh tasting food! We were all extremely impressed with our meals. Know that it’s a reservation only place, which we did not know, but they were accommodating all the same (which we really appreciated).

The food is always amazing and the staff are so friendly! We go there twice a year when in town and they always remember us.

Phenomenal fusion cuisine in a lovely corner spot looking out on a park. The special appetizer bbq brisket and crab flash-fried bao were amazing, and while the House Gabe of the lobster-fried Rice was tempting I must say the curry seafood stew was delicious: lightly sweet coconut milk base with a touch of heat full of s allows, large prawns, a lobster tail, calamari rings, mussels, yellow and green zucchini, peppers and onions—and a substantial portion.

Made a reservation at 5 pm for group of 5 and was seated immediately. Everyone enjoyed their food. One in our group doesn't eat seafood and we found most- but not all dishes include seafood, which I personally love. There was a fried chicken plate on the menu and it was delicious according to one friend. Another friend and I both got the special which was short ribs and shrimp over risotto. It was amazing. Very rich and flavorful. I brought some of it home and it was still good warmed up as leftover. Unfornuately , for dessert, to share , we tried the pound cake with bourbon icecream but sent it back because it had too much of an alcohol taste for some. They wouldnt allow is to trade it for another dessert so we ledr without dessert but I would give it another chance.

As I continued my walk home, since I was 40 minutes out of midtown, I decided to walk here and arrived just a little after they opened. I didn't have a reservation, and asked to sit at the bar. I felt I was a little too casual but they were welcoming and friendly and I got the best seat in the house. I could see all the drinks being made and ask what they were. Taylor? the bartender told me that they changed the cocktail menu and I told him to choose one of the new ones for me. He brought the Mt. Fuji, soooo good! He then told me about the croquettes special and the grilled duck in curry entree with a lobster tail...I ordered both! Why not? The croquettes were tasty and I loved the slaw that came with them. The duck was perfect! The curry was delicious!!! I didn't know I had to work for my food, but that lobster tail was soooo good with the sauce! I loved the rice that came with, because again that curry was soooo good! Taylor also picked out a wine for me, and wouldn't you know, it was a Malbec...my go to and favorite. After I was done, he told me and the guy sitting next to me, about the dessert special, chocolate cake with ube filling. Why not right? Imagine our surprise when this ginormous wedge was brought out! I couldn't finish it all so I took the rest home and had it for breakfast the next morning. I mean, why not, right? My friend I was visiting told me to say hi to Griffin, and he is one of the hosts. We had a great conversation, and Yo and I came back the next evening. Melek? was our bartender and he made us some wicked fun cocktails! What a fun place to come to! I'm glad I stopped in! I now have somewhere fun and familiar when I come back!

I was a little hesitant despite the good reviews because everyone claims to do Asian fusion but the food here was incredible. It is pricey.. but the portions are huge. Get the lobster fried rice and the lobster wonton.

This place is phenomenal, we are planning a road trip south and plan on diverting thru Atlanta just to eat here. We at ate several places in Atlanta but this was the best! Reservations are a must have.

Ate here on my own when over in Atlanta on business. It's in the middle of nowhere really (it seems Atlanta has restaurants spread out rather than concentrated in one place) Nice tasty food. Had devilled eggs which were exceptional, followed by lamb chops which were tasty but would have preferred the fat to be a bit more crispy.

I found this little gem from open table. We came for lunch on a Thursday. I did make a reservation and was promptly seated. We tried spring rolls, pad Thai and lo mein!!! Every single dish was Amazing!!!! Service was prompt and efficient. On our second visit of the week we came on Sunday at 11:30, again I made a reservation. We were promptly seated again and had Lola(I hope this is what I heard) she was so much fun! She told us about the brunch menú which is different but sooooo good!! We had the spring rolls again, the pineapple fried rice and the crispy beef!!! This place is sooo good and so eclectic on the inside. I forgot my purse there and my sweet server met me outside with it. All in all I totally recommend this place to people who love flavor, flare and just a great experience!!

I’ve been here before and the food was great! However, on my latest visit, it was awful! The Crispy Beef was tough and tasteless. The Lamb Chops were, too! I’m sure they should have at least, Salt & Pepper in the kitchen. It was my Husband’s Birthday, so I thought I’d order a large slice of what it states is Toasted Pound Cake to wish him A Happy Birthday and to share with the table. However, what came out was a HOT MESS! It literally looked like someone regurgitated in a plate! Disgusting to look at, let alone, to eat it! Yuck! We all were totally disgusted. They should remove that from the Menu! They have other large slices of cake, so why would you have an item with the other cakes and call it a Toasted Pound Cake and then send out the heaping plate of anything and everything but a slice of Cake. I know it’s buried in there under layers of unidentifiable things and a nasty looking brownish liquid. The Lobster Wontons were hot, cheesy mess with no Lobster in sight. Our Check was $100 in Taxes and Gratuity! Big Disappointment!

We did not know what to expect at this little gem, but Poor Calvin's is a restaurant worth driving in for from the 'burbs (or from anywhere). Very creative menu, attentive and helpful staff, good bar, unpretentious atmosphere - it all works! The lobster wontons are amazing and the crispy beef is a top 3 entree - ever. We will definitely be returning.

My boyfriend and I visited Poor Calvin's after a reservation was mistakenly made for an evening that another restaurant was closed for a private event. We were seated late (about 30 minutes before closing), but the waitress never rushed us at all. The food and drinks were both delicious. The waitress got to talking with us and I had mentioned that it was a special trip for my boyfriend's birthday. She surprised us with a delicious dessert! I was thrilled with the service and hope to come back on my next trip to Atlanta.

This was my 2nd time @ Poor Calvin's. Food is flavorful. Staff is pleasant and entertaining. Servings are not sparce. Carryout Sangria is sold by the liter, 1000ml. (Wine bottles are 750ml.) Sangria is delicious as well. Bathrooms are off limits to customers due to coronavirus. There was enough space outdoors to physically distance. Was told the building dated back to slavery. Being in Midtown makes it centrally located. Parking lot is small. Not to worry during the current public health event. With sooo many restaurants closed, aka not answering phones it is a pleasurre to know good restaurants that is open; 4 to 9pm. Last order is taken @ 830pm.

Everything was terrific. Lobster fried rice is unbelievable. Salmon hush puppies were a great starter. We finished with a Fuji Apple and peach empanadas. Zoobear was a terrific server. Five stars isn’t enough.

From the moment we pulled up to the curb and handed the valet the key, to we left we were made to feel like special guests. Our food was served quickly, and was excellent.

We were impressed by everything at Poor Clavins! The interesting cocktail menu made it difficult to choice but “Frankly My Dear” is the most unique and glamorous of all—rose petals floating on a perfect combination of flavors! We loved our entrees. The sea bass was the best. Colleagues enjoyed tofu and seafood dishes. We had the unusual unfortunate experience of having a “kitchen error” that was a problem with a colleague’s entree. The staff went out of their way to help her and handled it so PROFESSIONALLY! We were impressed! Don’t stuff yourself with appetizers here. The entrees are huge and you MUST save room for Calvin’s amazing cake. Red velvet bookends to a Devine ricotta, fig, extra special filling that is huge! My absolute favorite restaurant in all of Atlanta. (And don’t worry about parking—they have a complimentary valet!)

Very delicious food and gear cocktail . Very friendly staff with great service. Nice , welcoming ambience. Definitely can recommend 👍🏼

the decor was awesome and the food was great with diffrent options. this is a very lowkey spot in downtown atlanta

This is one of the best restaurants I have been to. It has a beautiful atmosphere and exceptional service. The food choices are very unique since it is a blend of asian and southern. It was very flavorful. Everything I had was delicious, including the dessert. Safer to take a car or ride to this place.

Went there to celebrate nieces moving to a new city. Service was excellent. However, despite its claiming fusion, was little more than a tribute to classic southern food pyramid: salt, fat and sugar, lots of it. The Pad Thai was so sweet, I could not finish it. Nothing on the menu spoke of culinary imagination or ingenuity, just a re-hash of some Asian-inspired dishes with enough added calories to make you gasp the next morning when you step on the scale. There is so much better food to be had in this city, so go find it.

Amazing , creative food, outstanding & friendly staff, Highly recommended!! Its a must go in Atlanta. will go back soon.

This combination of Southern Asian fusion was super good! I ordered the fish spring rolls, and a dish that was a curry with a battered fried fish on top and both were incredibly delicious.

We went there to celebrate my moms birthday. One of us had bit allergies and even after reiterating and confirming they served us food that contained nuts. The manager was completely rude and arrogant. Complete disappointment from a service perspective and we just didn’t have the energy to call the health department. This place should be closed down

First - make a reservation. Second - go hungry because you want to fill your belly with as much of this delicious food as you can. Everything we ate was great, but the dessert made me want to slap someone! For appetizers, our table ordered: chicken and pork dumplings, basil rolls, deviled eggs. My entree was the lobster fried rice! absolutely delish! the food was so fresh. Other entrees at our table were the following plates: fried chicken, crispy beef, and the crabmeat grilled cheese. We took the desserts for later, which were the Fuji Apple and the suspension cake. I almost lost my mind when I tasted these desserts. Hands down, go to Poor Calvin's...You won't regret it!

Outstanding food, service, and great vibe. Don't miss this place if your are in town visiting, and see why Atlanta locals love dinning here. The Sea bass was wonderful!. I always appreciate the outstanding service. I had the pleasure of dinning at the bar and Rolando and Fanta were great! Poor Calvins is always at the top of my list when recommending a place to dine in Atlanta.

First of off our server was a gem!! I will send a private recognition to the restaurant for her but Joy was very knowledgeable about the menu and so energetic throughout the whole experience. We ordered drinks Rum Punch, El Diablo and Hennessy Margaritas and all of them were excellent!!! We had the basket of Beignets and Lobster & Crab Wontons. Both were great appetizers but the Beignets were the winner at the table. The special of the day was the Seafood and Grits it did not disappoint full of scallops, mussels, shrimp and lobster. The crab grilled cheese was great and the side of fries were a table favorite. The Duck and Shrimp Siam was great. The Duck was cooked well as it was smoked.

Thai Fusion - Great understated vibe that I love! Staff was AMAZING!! (Alex got us in last minute - reservations required right now with COVID - and Jenny was a knowledgeable, friendly and attentive server!!) Food was absolutely incredible! Entrées are large enough for two people to share. Will definitely return when I'm in Atlanta again!

Welcoming staff, excellent (EXCELLENT) service, and outstanding plates of deliciousness. We asked for guidance from our waiter (shout out to TJ!) who steered us towards truly exceptional meals that we each enjoyed. From small plates, to our main course, and we managed to squeeze in some insanely good desserts. What a treat for our palates and a wonderful dining experience.

We went to Poor Calvin’s and it was a real treat for myself and my family. We checked them out on Yelp and saw their menu options -which were perfect for our group. Three of us arrived ahead of the fourth, put our name on the priority seating list and then we had a drink from the bar - both the beer and wine chosen were really light, tasty and refreshing. Once our fourth arrived, we were seated in minutes. Then, the great experience got even better when our waitress Sylvia arrived. From her greeting us warmly, engaging us constantly, prompt action with every request, detailed answers to our food questions, and in general some of the best service I may have ever had, dinner was truly relaxing end to end. The food, too, was equally amazing. We had an round of chicken and pork wontons- perfectly cooked followed by three of us getting the crispy beef and one getting the fried chicken. The meals were all cooked exactly as you’d hoped to get them, flavors working with each other and just the right temperature. The atmosphere is another seller at Poor Calvin’s. The staff all seemed to work so well together - joking and covering for each other as need be - which I think adds to the great eating experience too. I highly recommend you try this place out. You be happy you did.

Poor Calvin's is a asain southern fashion restuarant, that's fine dining without the high price. The menu is short but amazing and offers unique dishes that offer layers of flavor in every bite. Anytime I visit Atlanta I'll make a stop at Poor Calvin's.

I’ve dined at Poor Calvin’s several times over the years and the food is always excellent! You won’t be disappointed!

Very tasty Asian Fusion food with superb service. I really liked the interior of the restaurant. It was decorated pretty and had gauzy curtains separating tables. I’d definitely go back!

Have dined here many times over the last 10 years and it's always a great experience. The menu and venue are among the most-interesting in the city. The service is wonderful and friendly, and the food is always top-notch. The secret to success? Every time I've eaten here, Calvin has been on-site making sure that everything is perfect.

I went for a friends birthday brunch. The food was absolutely amazing the appetizers and mixed drinks were so good I barely had room for my delicious entree, there shrimp dishes are a must try.

I have a passion for fine dining accompanied by award winning wines. Many restaurants I try are somewhat disappointing as my expectations far exceed their performance. Then every once in awhile I stumble onto a restaurant that blows me away with flavour profiles that just excel in every sense. Such is Poor Calvin's. There are few places outside of France and Quebec that know how to prepare frog legs. If the concept of eating frog legs is beyond your comfort level, like snails and oysters, wonderful, as it leaves that much more for those of us who appreciate their delicacy. I could have had 3 or 4 more plates and been totally satisfied, but no, our server had to talk me into the short rib (far from short) in a Thai curry sauce. This dish could have fed at least 2 and possibly 3 people as the portion size was impossible to finish. I did give it my best however as it was the best plate I have had in several months, and that includes my self prepared meals. If you are in Atlanta for whatever reason, this place gets my vote as the best attraction in the city. I am already thinking of when I will be able to return to Atlanta, and pay another visit to Poor Calvin's.

Poor Calvin’s had the very best food out of all the places we ate at in ATL! Appetizers and entrees were perfect, as well as the drinks and service. Highly recommend!

Ashley was fabulous, very positive energy and very kind. She knew the menu well and asked questions to make sure people knew what they were ordering. I came with co-workers to get out of my food comfort zone. They all loved the food. It was not on my favorites list, and there wasn't much of a safe area on the menu. It is very heavily seafood and spicy. I'm glad I tried it and the place was very busy.

Great food served by less than great staff. We sat at the bar because the wait time was so long and it was too chilly to sit outside. And who seemed like the lead bar tender had difficulty identifying that his humor was uninvited, unneeded, and borderline disrespectful. The curly haired bar tender was awesome though. Luckily, we were slightly distracted from the rude guy by the couple next to us who also more than enjoyed their food. PC was a first for all four of us, and it was a great delight for all four of us as well. The amazing fusion was perfect. We will definitely return and simply wait for a table to become available. Poor Calvin’s needs more locations :) **This place was recommended by an awesome Uber driver by the name of Josh.

For appetizer, we had Calamari, shaped like fries, were delicious with the aioli dip. My seafood curry had half lobster tail, big pieces of scallops and shrimps, 2 pcs mussels, calamari. Flavored perfectly, no need for add on salt or pepper. My group also ordered the ribs with broccolini and crispy beef. Everybody was happy with their entree. A little pricey, but big portions and totally worth it, you won’t be disappointed. 19% gratuity is immediately added to the bill for all diners.

My wife and I went for a couples night. Interesting atmosphere and dishes. Food had lots of flavor and great selection. Enjoyed it.

We went to the restaurant on Monday evening after 8:00 pm. There were about a dozen people waiting. After being seated, we ordered MacaroniLobster and Duck Dynasty. The presentation of Duck Dynasty was impressive. The taste of it was ok. The Macaroni lobster barely had any lobster, totally different from the picture I saw online. After the meal, we ordered a dessert. By the way, we were told “No dessert menu. I am the menu”. The portion was Very big. I would give it 4 rating because of the creative presentation of the Duck Dynasty and the dessert, and big portion of the food, but not for the flavor.

am came here while on a business trip from Maryland and did not have reservations. We were told there would be a 30-45 minute wait. After waiting for 45 minutes, the host came and told us he could seat us but we would have to hurry up and be up from the table by 830pm because of reservations. He said he would give us a minute to think about it. He walked away. He comes back a few minutes later and says he needs an answer immediately because he is about to give the table away and we have to decide now. Never in my life have I ever felt so mistreated and disrespected in an establishment. I understand restaurants have reservations but they should also allot time for walk in patrons. If there was no room at all for any one else outside of reservations, we should have been advised to dine elsewhere. This was my FIRST TIME AND MY LAST TIME ever coming to Poor Calvin's. Maybe Calvin should spend some money on training his staff on how to treat people.

If you're in Atlanta please try Poor Calvin's as it is Incredible. Great atmosphere, fantastic staff, and incredible food!!! The portions are massive and the quality is 1st class. I will eat at Poor Calvin's Again :)

We visited this restaurant for dinner in February 9th 2019. Had to wait for about an hour to get our table and in the mean time were having drinks at the Bar. The Barman is friendly and efficient. The server was very helpful and we ordered Lobster Fried Rice, Seafood in red curry and Crispy Fried Beef Tenderloin. All dishes were cooked to perfection and very flavorful. It is absolutely value for money and I. An recommend this restaurant to anyone who are visiting Atlanta, USA.

We could have easily shared an entree because they are huge. We started with the seafood spring rolls which were amazing. I had the crispy beef tips with shrimp. My husband had the fried grouper which was served inside a pineapple. Highly recommend

I must admit that I was amazed at the variety of flavors offered at Poor Calvin’s. The food was exquisite. The group selected several appetizers including the fried goat cheese, lemongrass mussels and the wontons. (Mussels were my personal favorite). Of the entrees, the two that stood out were the crispy beef and the Tiger Shrimp Pad Thai. (Didn’t care for the grouper as much). The chocolate covered apple was the best desert that we selected. AJ was our server. She was more than attentive, extremely knowledgeable of the menu and full of Southern Charm! Ask for her by name when you make your reservations! Tell her John sent you!!! EAT HERE WHEN YOU VISIT ATLANTA!!!

Unpretentious setting in an off-the-beaten-path location, but the food was exceptional. Large portions at reasonable prices. The wild rice with gigantic shrimp and crab-stuffed clamshells was extraordinary.

Took an Uber from the Omni, maybe 10 min drive. Somewhat sketchy area. Place is really small. Looks like they converted an old side porch, walled it in to make more seating room. I had the fried chicken with collards and lobster Mac, husband had the crispy beef dish. Shared the goat cheese app. Highly recommend the crispy beef and goat cheese. Most people were ordering something in half a pineapple that looked interesting. Entrees that we ordered were $25 each and that was on the low side. Cocktails ran around $12.

My girlfriend's and I travelled from New Orleans for one night only and chose Poor Calvin's for our dinner plans. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! From the atmosphere, the service, to the food and cocktails. Being from New Orleans, we have high standards when it comes to food, drinks, and service. We will definatley be back! Thank you for being so kind and amazing to us! Oh and the pad thai and frog legs were delicious! With love, Brittaney, Allie and Sally

This place is definitely worth the visit. Everything was an A+ from the service to the food to the server being extremely knowledgeable about the menu.

I stumbled across this best kept secret in Midtown on my way to Publix....something said screw Publix just eat here. I sat at the bar and I must say the two very attractive bartenders serve the best curated cocktails. I started with the mango goat cheese salad with shrimp which just exploded with flavors. For my main course I had the Fried Grouper and shrimp served on a half pineapple with curry, rice, cashews etc....The most amazing fish dish it was great. The desserts are spectacular and amazingly huge so if you are dining alone, tell them to reduce the size because its a lot. I spent $111.00 including tip so it is a little on the pricey side. Automatically Including the tip on the bill regardless of the size of your party is not very smart...I would do away with that because it shows lack of trust and overall a bit of an insult because most of the clientele is African American so it can be taken the wrong way. Don't walk...run to poor Calvin's but make sure you make a reservation because it is quite the hot spot!

From the seating to the eating, this restaurant has a winning model. First, service and servers were knowledgeable and a pinnacle of perfection. This fusion restaurant with a southern twist will leave your taste buds in awe! Dishes like the deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes are second to none! We had the lobster fried rice and the duck with tiger shrimp. Our experience will cause this to be frequent stop when passing through. Be prepared to leave 18% gratuity. You won’t be disappointed at this icon of an establishment!

Second time to Poor Calvin's and ordering the special and being told they were sold out. Very dissatisfied. This should not happen at such a popular restaurant.

What amazing tucked away treasure! So excited to have found this amazing restaurant. Food was delicious, unique and well appointed decor, friendly and helpful staff. Loved it!

This is an extremely busy restaurant! The food and drinks are excellent! Do t plan on going with out a reservation! We had a reservation on a Monday night early! There were a lot of people that were hopefully waiting, we only waited about 2 minutes then were seated. Loved everything we tried! Lobster wantons, seafood and more

We did a road trip around the South & this was by far the best food & drinks we had! Our server was incredibly helpful & knew the nuances of the food & drinks inside out. The wontons are out of this world!

Got here at 7:30. Knowing it is a small restaurant, I asked if it was reasonable to expect to get a table. The hostess assured me that it would be about 15 mins and she would check on us if it was longer. We sat at the bar and got served the most awesome drinks by the most awesome bar staff. After 1 hr, i decided to politely check in with the hostess again. There was a different lady in a beige fedora-type hat and was about 5' tall. She decided that my very politely posed question was an attack and proceeded to lecture me on how persons with reservations needed to be served first. This is something we had never questioned. Based on what the first hostess had said, and the fact that we had waited one hour despite being told it would be 15 mins, AND that my name was #1 on the waiting list, i think the hostess could have at least attempted to be polite. We won't return. Doesn't matter how good the food might be or how good the bar ladies were, there is enough competition in Atlanta that we do not need to put up with rude treatment.

For months, friends have been telling me that I needed to try Poor Calvin's the next time I was visiting Atlanta. So, when I arrived in the city recently this restaurant was at the top of my To Do list. Regrettably, it just didn't live up to my expectations! The ambiance was nice and the staff was friendly. However, the food was just "okay." The Lobster crawfish wontons were a bit soggy. The accompanying sauce was far too hot. The lobster mac and cheese was also too spicy for me (I could only eat a few bites). Everything seemed to be seasoned exactly the same: HOT. I'm willing to give the restaurant another try since I'd love to see them succeed. However, I can't ignore that I was unexpectedly let down during my very first visit.

My wife and I have lived in Midtown for 8 years and have said that we need to try Poor Calvin’s on a number of occasions. Man have we been missing out! Our brunch service was awesome and the food was both unique and excellent. The lobster fried rice and the pineapple fried rice were both very good yet different flavors. The drinks are also creative and tasty. They’ve carved a nice niche as I haven’t experience a menu with this type of Asian/Southern fusion anywhere in the city. Do yourself a favor and give this spot a try. And apologies from me to the Poor Calvin’s team for taking so long to try y’all out. I’ll be back to try dinner with more friends and family!

The food is very good, the desserts are extremely and unnecessary big. Why? They were just fine in at least three sizes down. Didn't get this at all. The service was very good and attentive. The atmosphere is very nice, but loud. The food is very expensive though, a Thai curry will set you back around 42USD which as high even in Sweden. If the price is not an issue I can recommend this place, if you are searching for something less expensive then keep looking.

Family in Atlanta took us here when we were visiting. Food varied from good to very good. Mixed drinks were excellent, interesting and well made. Highlight was dessert and the drinks. The desserts included a massive caramel apple kind of thing carved up for you (strongly recommend) and a decent basic chocolate cake notable for its massiveness. Service was very good.

There were five of us here for dinner over Superbowl weekend. For full disclosure, I do love Thai food, and I am from New York so no stranger to great food. I also don't like what I call "slimy seafood". The waitress and my brothers convinced me to try their mussels, and it was nothing short of outstanding. The five of us argued over whose dish was the best....they were all that good. Small place, a little tight, but other then that, the food was fantastic and the service top notch. Can't recommend more.

Well, what to say? I don't know how we are ever going to find a restaurant to top Poor Calvin's. It was just a pleasure. We had the special, Satay Sticks, with the Duck and the Pound Cake for dessert. Every plate looked and tasted amazing. I wish I lived in Atlanta so I could come back regularly!

We went here to celebrate my friend's bachelorette and were not disappointed! The food was unique and tasty. Atmosphere is cozy and eclectic. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in Atlanta!

We called ahead and were informed that restaurant doesn't take advanced reservations for large groups, we were a party of 10, ages 3-70+ years old, however to walk-in. We showed up and hostess was incredibly rude, INCREDIBLY. We had to self seat at bar, half of the party and the other half seated at table. Horrible as we were celebrating our daughter's graduation as a family. Food was good and bartenders were great. If it wasn't for this, they would get a one star rating. Honestly, if they couldn't accommodate a large party they should've told us over the phone to avoid the fiasco.

I want to thank James, Linda, and Brittany for showing our party what a wonderful night to be had looked like. We were a party of 8, (actually party of 9, I had to sneak one in on them). We were all in town for my son's wedding. I had been to PC a few times and wanted them to experience what i already knew was about to become one of their top tier experiences of the evening. In true PC fashion, they did not disappoint. Our host and hostess team James, Linda, and Brittany may not realize it but they were doctrine in that night as our "Outside Family" Sorry we did not meet Calvin but trust and believe we will have another opportunity, hopefully sooner than later.

Filthy restaurant! This place cuts corners for profit and is a public health and safety risk. We were Served foul smelling shrimp. Any person reading this knows exactly how horrible bad shell fish tastes- it's unmistakeable. When we brought it to the manager's attention, instead of simply taking the ammonia smelling shrimp away, he proceeded to argue whether we could actually taste bad seafood. We also had a cross contaminated vegan dish with pieces of fish meat in it. The response by Poor Calvin's leadership to concerns over food quality (them serving bad seafood and cross contaminated food) tells you a lot about how this establishment is run and what their priorities are. Stay away, this place puts profit over the health and safety of people. Poor Calvin received a 67/100 health score! This explains so much.

I could tell you that Poor Calvin’s venue is brilliant, yet cosy, down to the colours and arrangement of tables. I could tell you that staff is knowledgable, yet quirky (they have clearly been coached well by Calvin and his “if we cooked it right, you WILL love it” approach). Or I could tell you that the food is exquisite; an explosion of diverse tastes and flavours, thanks to the short menu and carefully-crafted specials. But instead, I will say this: If you are in Atlanta, ignore Poor Calvin’s at your peril! 👌

Our party of 4 was a little early for our reservation and we were waiting for one so we were invited to sit at the bar where we were THOROUGHLY entertained with the most awesome bartenders. I wish I remembered the names...I know one was James and the other liked anything with or anyone named ROSE.🌹It could be the same person, not sure. He wore a ROSE pin on his shirt. I am usually ready to get to my table when waiting at a bar, but it was quite pleasant!! Then Sylvia came to introduce herself and join in the entertaining before we knew she’d be our waitress. What a treat! Her service was IMPECCABLE x 10!!! She remembered each of our names the entire time like we were friends! Now let’s talk food! Deviled eggs✔️ Goat Cheese ✔️ It’s an Asian fusion but boy does it offer a whole lot of other stuff! Our party had the sea bass, duck, scallop curry, and gluten free fried chicken, all yummy! Now dessert...we were already stuffed but bypassing a toasted pound cake with an in house made butter pecan ice cream with a caramel sauce made in house and strawberries and some other stuff was TOO much to bear! I’m simple with my dessert so at first I was upset because it looked like too much going on, but lord when I tasted it...😶. No words...just pure heavenly. If you’re fortunate to get Sylvia, ask her the history of the restaurant. I love it even more after knowing!!❤️❤️❤️

Asian fusion food to perfection. A wonderful place to go with friends and family. Their experimentation with Asian cuisine and a mix of southern food is very good, tasty and very well presented. Their service is very good and the people working there are very friendly. Also their cocktails/mocktails also were very good. Please make a reservation if you want to go else you may have to wait a long time or not get a table at all.

Everything about this restaurant is right - ambiance, drinks, food, service. They did not miss a step. Mac was our culinary guide through this amazing experience. He listened and provided spot on recommendations. Drinks are uniquely crafted works of art. I had the Frankly My Dear cocktail. Simply beautiful. I wish they were served by the pitcher. There was so much on the menu I wanted to try I decided to get a few different small plates Lobster Wonton - hit every note. Salty from the caviar, sweet from the mango glaze and truffle balsamic, creamy filling, crunchy wonton... Deviled Egg - again with caviar, bbq beef, and lychee glaze a sweet and sour experience Tempura Sea Bass - First off there was nothing small about this plate. Could easily be an entree. Perfectly fried fish. The sauce was something special. My friend had the lobster fried rice - wow. A fried lobster tail on top of a delicious fried rice preparation. Of course a meal isn’t complete without dessert. We had the peach and goat cheese empanada with a brandy ice cream. Which was a perfect end to a perfect meal. The only criticism I would have is the pastry could have been more delicate. I can’t wait to return to try the rest of the menu

After hearing good things about this restaurant and reading the reviews, my husband and I were looking forward to a great evening. Sadly, it did not live up to the hype. We had reservations and were promptly seated. We were well taken care of by our server. I ordered a wonderful black cherry cocktail. Then things went downhill. The server made an off-color joke about the name of the drink. It didnt upset me, but some patrons might have been angry enough to leave. We ordered the lobster wontons. They were soggy and contained very little lobster. One of them had nothing in it at all. My husband ordered the sea bass and I ordered the duck dynasty. It was the most poorly prepared duck breast I have ever eaten. The meat was tough and much too rare. It did not have the crispy skin a well-prepared duck breast should have. It came with a lobster tail that was completely flavorless. The plate was a mush mash of some kind of odd tasting risotto, vegetables and peculiar garnishes. I thought cocktail olives on a skewer was a very strange embellishment. My husband’s fish was better. When he saw how disappointed I was in my dinner, he offered me his fish. I ate a little of it. It was definitely better than the duck, but far from being the best sea bass I’ve ever eaten. It came with a creamy sauce with artichokes, I think, and sun dried tomatoes. I found one sun dried tomato and it was huge and tough to cut into manageable pieces. My husband’s plate had the same peculiar cocktail olive garnish. I told the waitress I was unhappy, but I already knew form reading reviews about this place, that they will not take a dish back or let you swap something you don’t like. She did offer to get the manager, but I figured it would be pointless. When I showed her the undercooked duck, she asked if I wanted to have the kitchen cook it some more. Since it was already sliced, that would not have made it more palatable. We got the check and escaped as soon as possible, having spent a lot of money on a meal that was only memorable because of its deficiencies.

Our taxi driver recommended this restaurant. We were a party of 6 with no reservations. The waitress was names joy. She was excellent and a lot of fun! The food was incredible! We had a great evening! I will definitely go back next time I am in atlanta!

First time visit. Second table seated for lunch. Seated next to server's prep table. Very noisy. Bathrooms were dirty and smelled which was amazing since they had just opened for the day. Had gone for a birthday meal on multiple recs. from friends. Will not go back.

My first visit with friends...every mouthful was terrific. Service was great! Too many things on the menu that I want to try...every course was so creative and the plating was beautiful! Shrimp dumplings, lobster Mac & cheese, basil rolls for starters. The fried grouper was spectacular served over half a pineapple! The seafood melange and the sea bass were also delicious!! Dessert was the best...I had an empanada with ice cream. We also shared the chocolate covered apple and a white cake! The service was wonderful.

Restaurant just up the street from where we were staying and husband mentioned we should check it out. I read the reviews and was sold. Made a reservation on line - good thing as Sunday night was crazy busy with lineups. Showed to our table and immediately got a good vibe from atmosphere and tables around us. Server very pleasant and told us the specials of the evening. I looked over to next table as their food was being brought out and everything looked and smelt delightful. I ordered the Pad Thai and husband ordered one of the specials. Definitely not disappointed and by far the best Pad Thai I have had. Served in half a pineapple, the flavours were delicious, had never seen such large scallops. Had no room for dessert. My husband had the special which was berry red rice with chorizo and scallops. The desserts that I saw being delivered to tables were the biggest portions I have ever seen and would be enough to serve 4. Next time in Atlanta will have to go just for dessert. A definite thumbs up and strongly recommend.

This was an amazing experience. Right in the middle of town, close to our hotel and we Uber-ed over for reasonable fair. Food was excellent, wait staff knowledgeable about food, how it was prepared and guided our selections. Atmosphere was Asian inspired and we sat outside and even though it was a little chilly when the sunset but they had porch heaters. A little bit more expensive but definitely worth it!

The portions are HUGE. The flavors were Intense and subtle in parallel. Truly a unique experience that over delivered on expectations.

Rude. The woman who answered the phone cost you a customer tonight. I’ll never give you my business just over how I was treated.

Poor Calvin's is a culinary gem!! Chef Calvin cooks with "absolute fusion" which means that he selects delicious flavors from around the world and creates absolutely unique dishes. I had the "duck dynasty" which was smoke duck breast coupled with a lobster tail. I love both and have never had them served together in one entree! The result was heavenly delicious! The crowning glory of our experience was the excellent, warm caring service we received. We were welcomed into this charming, intimate restaurant and will always remember the experience we enjoyed.

Came to Hotlanta for a quick family visit and my son asked if I would try a fusion restaurant? That’s Poor Calvin’s. But first, the mixologists at the bar are sensational. They clearly take pride in their work, mixing drinks like artists. It appears that any cocktail will be a pleasurable experience. Now in to the dinner. We had the goat cheese appetizer with the butterfly shrimp. Both excellent. Our party of three had the shrimp bowl, beef crisp and New Zealand lamb chops. Very serious sized portions... but flavor and presentation were not lost on the size of the meal. Service was steady, knowledgeable waiter, good personality but kept his space (good)! Got the bill expecting a nice dent in the credit card and was pleasantly surprised at the fare. Great value. Suggest reservations as the site is a bit small. Kudos to all!

This guy was so RUDE to me and my husband that I would NEVER go back to this place!! First off when we arrived we were told by the host to stand in a tight cramped space with other people directly behind the bar. As we watched other people who came in after us be seated we figured they had reservations so no big deal. However when two people got up from the bar we sat down. After that a couple walked in and stood at the bar. The rude bartender overlooked us and asked them if they wanted a drink. A few minutes go buy and my husband ask for a drink. He tell us we have to get us because other people may have reserved the bar and we need to go back to the host to be seated. My problem here is how he spoke to us and instead of asking if the host sat us there he embarrassed us in front of everyone there by telling us to get up VERY RUDELY!!! The host then came and never tried to rectify the situation he just looking dumb founded and rude as well!

Everything about this place was excellent. Located a little off the beaten path (we walked so probably even more so). There is valet parking. Might suggest reservations if it's the weekend or a peak time. It was super busy and during the week, so we had a slight wait. Staff were all very friendly and food came out promptly. This won't be a "cheap" meal so plan accordingly. We had apps, entrees, drinks, and dessert (no regrets). Fried Rangoon's and calamari. Rangoons had exceptional flavor, uniquely done. I don't eat calamari but it also had pickled veggies and the portion size was crazy for an app. Chicken and veggies and the monstrosity of a dessert which has popping boba!!!!!

The food is phenomenal. We got the lobster Mac and cheese, pad Thai and fried grouper. They were all out of this world! Our server Enoch was exceptional. The way he described the dishes sold the food! He was very knowledgeable and friendly. He is definitely an asset to this restaurant. I will definitely visit again!

LOVE this place! It's small and was a bit noisy when we were there, but we still had a great experience. The food was amazing! Our server was friendly and the perfect amount of help at the right times. I'm sure we will go back for special occasions.

One if Atlanta’s secret gems. The FOOD was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. The service was phenomenal. Perfect for date night. From appetizer to dessert, everything was TOP TIER! I definitely will be back again.

The food was fabulous, and the service matched it. We arrived a little early and had to wait briefly before being seated for our reservation, but once we did it was an extremely memorable evening. PJ and Joy were delightful, entertaining and extremely informative about the food and preparation. Amazing to think with such a small kitchen can produce such amazing food, presentation, and taste. Every course we ordered was delicious. The shaky shrimp and seafood spring rolls were a great start to the dinner. Our main courses were the lamb chops, sea bass, pad Thai with shrimp and lobster and the duck and shrimp. None missed a beat.

Poor Calvin’s is amazing! We love the lobster wontons, Crispy beef, and pad Thai. Seriously the best place for Asian fusion and great cocktails! The serving staff is awesome and management even better! We can’t wait til our next dinner there!

My husband and I were looking for somewhere to eat last minute and he found this place. We called and they said they were booked but we could sit outside. So we did, with our baby in his stroller. It was fine until it started to drizzle. The staff was amazingly accommodating and got us right inside! We ordered drinks and a couple of entrées. Everything was so delicious! 5 stars on food, service, and atmosphere!

Man what can I say. I don't know why it took me so long to get to Poor Calvin's, but I'm glad I did. They are without doubt one of the best restaurants in the downtown section of Atlanta. From the service, to the food, you always are taken care of, from the parking lot to when you exit. Our server Andre was phenomenal. He knew every inch of the menu and what paired well. He even took care of my wife, who had a hard time choosing a dish, due to her shellfish allergy. For starters, I had the fried calamari, and my wife had the chicken & pork dumplings. Both were fantastic. For entrees, my wife did the ribs, which came with broccoli and jasmine rice. Ribs were perfect. I had the lobster fried rice, which was served in a huge portion. I couldn't even finish it, so took half of it home. We tried a dessert after seeing so many come out that looked amazing. We did the toasted pound cake, and it was some of the best we've had anywhere! Even the Baileys infused ice cream served with it was good. I will definitely be back, as everything looked so good, and the experience was top notch. Not to mention free parking!

I celebrated my birthday here with my daughter. Above and beyond. Can't wait to come. Our new regulars spot in Atlanta. Thank you so much.

Went to meet my son for dinner after work. The food was fantastic! I ordered the lobster fried rice and lobster wonton appetizer. My son ordered the duck dynasty (lobster and duck). He really enjoyed it. They also have wonderful cocktails and desserts.

While in town last month for a conference we asked the gentleman at the hotel where we should eat in Atlanta that was authentic. He recommended this joint. This was amazing, worth every penny. The portions of food are massive. The menu has so many great options. The taste was on point and might be the best meal I have had in a long long time. I ordered the fried chicken, greens, and Mac and cheese. For desert the four of us shared a slice of cake, the slice of cake is literally the size of a cake. If I’m ever in Atlanta again I will go here, and recommend that anyone whose in the area make sure to go check it out.

Soooo good! The atmosphere was cozy, and exotic. The food was delicious! We had vegan coconut curry and the salmon special. We started with fried green tomatoes and finished with raspberry and chocolate mousse cake. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. This place was fantastic!! We will go back.

A visit to Atlanta to see our daughter and son-in-law was topped by the outstanding service and meal at Poor Calvins. I knew from the moment we stepped inside this was going to be a special night. Everyone, from the front of the house, to all of the servers were exceptional. Especially our server Zubaher. Zubaher guided us through the cocktail menu and even had the bartender create something not on the menu, after learning our preferences. He then took us on a culinary journey with his complete knowledge of the menu and preparation of the chef's creations. My husband loved his "Duck Dynasty", our kids loved their Lamb Chops with goat cheese and the Lobster Fried Rice was a huge hit. My Seabass was very well prepared and tasty. We started with the Thai Dumplings and let me just say.....do it. They are worth it. I told my daughter I am coming back soon, just to go to Poor Calvins. Thanks everyone! Ya'll have a great Holiday.

Poor Calvin's offers some of the most creative food in Atlanta with great drinks, food, and service. I definitely advise making reservations in advance (if possible) and come hungry! Their lunch and dinner are both great!

Excellent service and food! Very busy establishment with limited seating so reservations are recommended. Restaurant is southern inspired Asian food but for the dishes we ordered Pad Thai, beef tips and sea bass it was more Asian it seemed. The red velvet cake is to die for and is to be shared. They will supply you a free Uber home if needed. Will definitely go back.

Poor Calvin is a perfect name for a restaurant that are rude to your customers. Poor attitude from the manager James who approached my friend when she tried to greet him. This was my boyfriend's first time coming to this place and didn't know we couldn't sit at the bar to get drinks while we wait for our table. They told us we had get up rudely. This is the last time I will come to this establishment.

Absolutely wonderful experience for our anniversary dinner. We sat at the bar and throughout enjoyed our time, both drinks and dinner. Highly recommend the green tomato app as well as the grouper and sea bass entrees! We have found a new favorite in ATL, outstanding!

I went with 2 business associates. We wanted to get out of the “touristy” area. The restaurant is smaller and in a neighborhood. The restaurant itself was immaculate and well-decorated. The cocktail menu had very interesting options, from a Manhattan that the use house-smoked rye, to a gin based drink that mimics the taste of pho, the Vietnamese dish. We started with a special appetizer, the watermelon and dumplings. This had logs of grilled watermelon stacked “Jenga-style” surround with shrimp dumplings and an sesame, soy based sauce. My entrée was the crispy beef. Here there fried slices of steak until crispy, then added this to a medley stir-fried, in-season veggies. It was finished with a soy based, earthy and unctuous sauce. We split a dessert which was a sublime peach empanada with home-made butter pecan ice cream. Our server, Sylvia, was fantastic. She knew every dish forward and backwards and explained in detail the dish. She would compare and contrast different options and present her thoughts in a non-directive manner. I highly recommend Poor Calvin’s.

Definitely a must try place. The food was great, the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and ingredients. Be aware that the restaurant is small with limited seating but very popular. I advise making reservations. We stood for 30-45 minutes but it was worth it. We ordered the calamari, Thai curry seafood and lamb chops. Both were amazing. We will definitely visit again

This is a true hidden gem. I got a tip from a colleague who happens to be a local here and I was amazed. We are on a conference and attend with colleagues on a Monday evening and the place was packed so do make a reservation. We had to wait around half an hour to get a table but the wait was worth it. Very authentic mix of Asian food with fresh ingredients and a very friendly staff. You really feel welcomed here. Oh and the bathroom has this ambiance effect where they use special Lightning and they even add meditation music to settle the mood lol

I was treated to dinner at Poor Calvin’s for my Birthday. It was a good experience but not one that I must do again. The hostess and waitress were warm and friendly and the waitress was quite knowledgeable when asked questions about the food. We had reservations which were useful, even on a Thursday night it was crowded. We asked to change our table as we were seated by the window and it was quite cold. We were told that it was the warmest place in the room. We remained and order hot tea to help. The meal was good, I ordered the famous lobster fried rice and it was satisfactory. My husband had the duck and he said it was okay. Also ordered calamari and the frog legs. We. Oils have stopped there. Order the lavender lemonade. It was quite good. If you are looking for cheap eats then go somewhere else. Our bill for 2 was nearly $150. I didn’t order dessert, however before we left the waitress did bring me a martini glass with banana pudding and fresh berries with a candle. Nice touch to end a meal. I’ll go back again, if someone else is treating!

Unbelievable place! Food and service over the top in a casual atmosphere with a terrific vibe. Southern with an Asian fusion twist, creative and delicious. Don’t miss the Lobster Wontons, Fish and Grits, Crab Fried Rice, Chicken with Sweet Potato Waffles. Portions are hugh.

Amazing restaurant with perfect service and delicious food. Great menu, tasty drinks and huge desserts.

SO, SO good! The wait staff was so friendly, too! The appetizers were beautiful and delicious. We had 3, and should have stopped there but couldn’t resist ordering two entrees. The portions are huge. Would have loved to get a doggy bag, but we weren’t going home until the next day.

Although the name would not even hint at it being an Asian restaurant, Poor Calvin's is one of the best Asian eating experiences I've had in quite some time. It's kind of like a little bit of southern soul food crossed with awesome Asian food. The food here is fresh, thoughtfully prepared, very generous in terms of serving sizes, and I can say that every single person in our party of nine was thrilled with their dish. The Pad Thai came with a roasted lobster tail and three large scallops, the lobster mac 'n' cheese was amazing and rich, and the large serving of grouper was served over a roasted half pineapple. Our service was excellent, the atmosphere was lovely, and the we all left very full and very happy indeed.

My wife surprised me for my birthday by taking me to Poor Calvin's. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, answering questions about the menu offerings and suggesting the daily specials. We both decided to try the specials. I had short ribs with shrimp, asparagus, and a tempura lobster tail. Lobster was cooked perfectly, fried lightly and full of flavor, but the star of the plate was the tender short ribs. My wife had lamb chops with mashed potatoes with a curry sauce. The flavors were bold and delicious--for dessert, we had a chocolate ganache covered red velvet suspension cake, with a whipped mascarpone filling. We had a wonderful night and look forward to returning!

This is an excellent (if unusual) restaurant that I thoroughly enjoyed. The food is outstanding, the atmosphere is casual and comfortable and the location is somewhat out of the way. The Chilean Sea Bass was so delicious I had to stop and catch my breath. This creative dish was perfectly prepared and spiced. I had to resist the temptation to order a second. Thank you for a great meal.

Went to this restaurant due to the interesting theme of the fusion of comfort food of the south with an Asian twist The results were outstanding The food was plentiful and tasty but not too spicy. And well presented I strongly recommend the seafood dishes Our server was friendly and energetic and was helpful with suggestions The location is near the Emory medical center and looks nondescript but don’t be fooled, this place is a gem

A friend who was visiting from Chicago and another who lives in Atlanta and I had the best time at Poor Calvin's. We ate here twice in one day - for lunch and then we returned for drinks and small bites at the bar. The food is excellent - fusion of southern and Asian cuisine. We loved lobster mac and cheese - so good . Spring rolls were also good. There is not a bad selection on Poor Calvin's menu. The bartenders were so much fun - we had a show while sitting and conversing with them at the bar. They made the best specialty cocktails. Poor Calvin's has a nice unique ambience, great food, good service and unique specialty cocktails.

PC has a great vibe and an interesting layout. The servers are well versed in the offerings and the food is quite good. Recommended by a local. You can walk there from downtown. My lone regret, not ordering that gorgeous red velvet cake.

This crispy beef may be the best thing I’ve ever eaten. That is saying a lot. I literally just ate half so I can have the other half tomorrow, I want to savor it. This picture says it all: see the untouched glass of wine? It’s so good I forgot to have a drink.

Each dish is it's own experience, and the care taken with each dish lends an artisanal quality that gives each flavor a special place. The hospitality of the wait staff, and comfortable atmosphere with a touch of class and uniqueness is a restaurant that everyone should experience when they are in Atlanta.

Expensive, but delicious food. Found this Thai Fusion restaurant near our hotel in midtown Atlanta. Parking was a challenge, but got a spot. We were walk ins, but got a table right away (with the exception of the hostess who said that she would seat us but we would need to finish by a stated time for a reservation - which annoyed us). The server was wonderful and the food unexpectedly wonderful. We had the Curry Seafood and Pad Thai with lobster and scallops. Dessert (strawberry cake) was unbelievable. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and stayed way past the time the hostess warned us about.

Tempura Shrimp appetizer to die for. This is the second time we ate at Poor Calvin's. Second time just as amazing as the first.

Had the most marvelous lunch - everything unusual, superb and fun. The wonton appetizers are to die for - the chefs daily special Salmon was fabulous as was the Shrimp Ravioli. Definiitely worth a visit and PS Their raspberry Tea is a winner

Busy, small, cozy and local. Truly loved everything about this highly recommended little chic Atlanta restaurant. We took a short Uber ride from our hotel in midtown. The food was delicious and the vibe was happening. We had the lobster and shrimp with purple rice special and the fried chicken entree. We also shared the shrimp hush puppy appetizer special and finally the house made pistachio cake for dessert. The craft cocktails are just as good as the food itself. You can’t go wrong if you appreciate Asian food. The staff and owner made for an even more memorable dining experience. Wonderful, we can’t wait to go back.

We anticipated this would be a slam dunk because of the good reviews but we left the place feeling let down. The portions were excessive, most tables in the dining room had leftovers to go. It reminded me of Cheesecake Factory. For starters, we had the deviled egg with beef bulgogi and caviar. We were not sure what to make of it other than a Thai fried hard-boiled egg cut in half, then dressed to the nines. I ordered the Chilean sea bass while my friend had the crispy beef. I cannot say I liked the flavor of the dish because the fish was overwhelmed by the chaos of fusion. It had various Asian, it had Mediterranean and they all wanted top billing. In the end, I conceded--I have had better Chilean sea bass. Those fish are priced for a reason. The crispy beef reminded us of a PF Chang's dish. In other words, it lacked originality. If large portions matter very much to you, then this place is an easy A. On the other hand, we liked the wine on the menu which was a South African Chardonnay. The Jasmine and Brown coconut rice as well was very good quality, with a lovely aroma. Service was attentive and friendly. All of our food from appetizers to the main dish came out cold. That was another deal breaker. Finally, dessert failed to save the evening. A generous slice of pound cake with three scoops of ice cream on top, with sliced fruits thrown on, under and next to it, caramel syrup here and a green syrup there. It was massive and because we eat with our eyes first, we just shut down. The image was most unappealing. From the restaurant's reputation, we expected a degree of sophistication.

Poor Calvins is what I consider a Thai fusion restaurant. It was amazing! Arrived with no reservations instead of turning us away Alex found us a table. Then we were lucky to have Jenny as our server. She was knowledgeable about all the menu items and her service was impeccable! Now to the food, Yum!!! The Thai seafood curry was perfect! The portions are big enough to share.. I would also recommend the deviled eggs!! This is a place I will definitely recommend and return to when I visit Atlanta!!

The food was amazing and the waitstaff was very friendly! The mussels and the lobster friend rice are must haves. The mac n cheese will change your opinion of that dish!

Poor Calvin’s is by far the most consistent restaurant I’ve ever been to! Between the scenery, motifs, specially crafted drinks, and food- it’s a must-go restaurant. My only mild complaint would be the valet guys, the service is great and totally convenient, but if I don’t tip them to their standards, I am always given the “Wow, this unbelievable, can’t believe you women, I only make tips, I don’t get paid, I have cashapp comments.” I understand they may not be directly connected to the restaurant, but it makes me feel uncomfortable because any amount of a tip is never enough or demands a boisterous comment. It was a little awkward bringing my best friend here for the first time and her being asked multiple times while entering her car about a tip after saying she only had her credit card and a five dollar bill and being told, “that’s it?”

Updates**** If I could give zero star I would. I really wish.. food is TRASH! Don’t even call it Thai or nothing. Their food idk who cook this, but I feel bad for people who eat this. We are from Michigan and this place has good reviews so we wanted to try out. The consistency of rice is like styrofoam. Mac and cheese was soupy. Greens were hard. All vege was hard as rock! We ate one bite of each dishes and took them back. Bc we could not eat them. They still charged us and plus 18?20?% gratitude. Came out to $140 for nothing. We told the manager that we do not want to pay since we did not eat there. The manager told us that he takes pride in his restaurant and refused to accommodate us with anything. I’m a business owner too but I don’t have pride in my work unless my customer is satisfied. Save your trip, time, and emotions and money please

The drive to midtown is always worth it to have dinner at Poor Calvin’s - make sure you have reservations! Walk-ins don’t get tables. Parking is not available adjacent to the restaurant (typical for Atlanta), but the valets do a good job. Everything is hand crafted at Calvin’s; apps, entrees, cocktails (yes, mixers too) and even non-alcoholic beverages (the lemonade is great!) We had the lobster and purple wild rice special; 5 lbs flown in fresh from Maine, mixed with fresh scallops, shrimp, and spices - plenty for 4 people. The spring rolls and dessert were excellent, too. The entire meal was fantastic! The waitstaff provided amazing service (ask for Alicia - best server and bartender in the place). Definitely recommend this restaurant, two thumbs up!

Nice atmosphere, service was great. Great selection of food. The chicken and waffles were delicious. I had Lavender Lemonade which was tasty.

The best part of my visit to Atlanta. Everything was timely and amazing. The bar service and top notch. The service at the table was unbelievable, I haven’t received this kind of service in a long time. Thank you
Trying new restaurants
Delicious food with a flair! From beginning cocktails to appetizers, main course, and really no room for dessert but it’s also a must! Service is outstanding. Get a reservation. Five people at our table got different dishes and I’d go back for all. I did like the red velvet cake the best.
