Great happy hour !

By Robert B |

First time here...great food and great atmosphere....will return soon..also great happy hour specials...

Great food

By ThomasEMM |

About a 15 minute drive from the downton convention center but worth every mile driving. Great food being served. I opted for the veal picantha, which is an Italian veal dish with a lemon and caper sauce. Took the sauteed spinach as the side. Portion was also the right size, not too much not too little

Fun food at the bar

By Dennis S |

Popi's is always a great value with high quality food. But because I travel into Philly alot it leads itself to eating alone. So a fun bar is a must, and they deliver!

Great service and Food. Constant tempertaure change ruined the evening.

By jeff c |

Went on the recommendation of a friend and it didn't disappoint. The appetizers were very good, and the gravy with my veal parm was great. Waitress could not have been more friendly. Would have given them a 5 rating but the temperature change in the restaurant was ridiculous. Every 10 minutes or so the air would blow REALLY cold for a couple of minutes and then worm up again. This just kept up the whole time we ate dinner. People around us were also as annoyed as my wife and I. We complained but the waitress said it's just the way the system works. I know she felt bad. We would have loved to stay for coffee and desert but we were just too uncomfortable. It's a shame that this could not be fixed. Doubt we would return which is a real shame.

Great Wedding Rehearsal Dinner

By Raymond S |

Used Popi's for a wedding rehearsal dinner for 33 people. We had a private room with a six table setup and a private bar. Service was excellent and food was very good. We had a choice of crab cakes or stuffed chicken. Everyone seemed happy with the food. I had the crab cakes and they were very good. The room was nice but not ornate. When deciding to use Popi's for the event, we did dine in the main dining room as a test. The service and food were also very good which led us to select Popi's. All in all a good Italian restaurant.

Group dinner

By Bearden23 |

Great South Philly location. If you are entertaining 2 or 102 people, they will serve the same great food. For large parties, let Gina or Vel help you out. I have never had a bad meal - lunch or dinner - big or small - great place and plenty of off street parking.

Great Italian Food

By TravelingMary2013 |

We took a party of 8 cousins out to eat here and everyone was very satisfied. The appetizers in particular were excellent. The waitress suggested all the appetizers on the menu and had two trays made. The service was impecable. The only thing she dropped the ball on was not mentioning a tip had been automatically added-drives my husband crazy! Everyone was very happy with their meal.

Too Busy to be Good

By susan g |

Very disappointing. Reservation on saturday night wasnt honored and we had to wait for 1 hr. Food wasnt up to their reputation. wine was good and reasonable priced. Service was good. Probably will not go back. Too many other italian restaurants to choose from.

Dinner

By HUNGRY-COUPLS |

Great food we sat at the bar and had a great experience talking to the bartender. Dinner was tasty as well as the drinks. Would visit again

First Visit--will definately be back.

By babcme |

Had a party of 16 at Popi's the other night and they did an excellent job. Restaurant is a very attractive and rather large and has plenty of free parking which is rare for a S Philly spot. The place was spotless as well. The food was very good--bread was outstanding--, and although the menu is obviously Italian, they had a few dishes w/o gravy. Veal dishes and pasta were top shelf. Large portions and prices are very reasonable for quality & portion size. Our server was excellent as well. Another plus was that we were never rushed and although we had a 5:30 reservation--we basically closed the place. Nice bar area as well.

Average Italian, nice facility, good service, heavy oily sauce and Depp frier use.

By Hobietim |

Ate on a Saturday befoer a concert, nice locaiton and interior, great service, food however, heavily sauced, sausage and veal, with visible oil/grease, crab cakes are not softballs that are deep fried, and not cooked through so the breading is mush inside. apetizer OK but deep fried, the sorbet was very well done and presented in frozen fruit, bravo.

VERY POOR SERVICE, food is great

By luv2beachKansasCity |

Waiter was the worst I have seen. Had to ask to get the water glasses refilled. He did not even ask us if we wanted another cocktail. We had a party of 6 , none were impressed with the service. However the food was GREAT. Best Fruti de mare I have ever had.

Substitute Pork for Veal Cutlet

By johncc776 |

Tried Popi's for the first time. Pork cutlet was faked as veal in their veal dish.I had to track down a server for a drink after 15 minutes and the entrees came out before the salad. What more can I say?

Another great dinner at Popi's

By Red Davis |

by myself traveling for business and want a nice quite dinner Went to Popi's Thursday for dinner. I was traveling by myself for business and wanted a nice, dependable place for a quite dinner. I was not disappointed. Started with great service from Kristen at the bar. She was very helpful explaining the night's featured offerings. I choose a salad and the fresh fish offering. Both were great. The salad was nice and crisp. The fish was cooked perfectly, not over done. A very nice butter and wine sauce with large pieces of lump crab meat. When I was deciding on a wine for dinner Kristen offered a tasting of each. This is a very nice family owned restaurant. Give it a try the next time you are in South Philly. It is located a few blocks from the sports stadiums. This is a

OMG

By tiasharee777 |

Outside of FREEZING(room temperature)..... The food was OMAZING and the crab cakes were to die for! I also enjoyed my salmon and my Husband’s shrimp pasta dish! There was a little spicy kick to it but it wasn’t overbearing. I’ll definitely be back to partake in this deliciousness again.

Great food with surprisingly fair prices

By Hopjim |

Wonderful red sauce Italian cooking with nice setting and great service. Ravioli, veal and shrimp all creatively cooked with old fashion style spices. Fair prices from wine list to entrees. Would love to go back.

Italian food fit for a king

By Kevin4235 |

We were here for lunch and it was Traditional Italian fare at its best. Great food, large portions (took home a doggie bag). Service was excellent.

Worst Restaurant in Philly!!!

By Anner40 |

Went to celebrate my birthday. Food was horrible, service was even worse...sooo slow. Food is overpriced and minimal. Are these owners kidding??? They need to get out of the business of owning a restaurant. Don't stop, don't bother EVER!!!

Very slow

By Peter P |

Went to a retirement luncheon recently. Food was just mediocre for the price. Crabcake tasted like Mrs.Paul's. Took over two hours to complete a simple lunch. There are many better places in South Phila.

Beautiful Resturant / Good Food.

By Bill B |

I have eaten here numerous times. The resturant has a large bar area, and a few dining rooms. We have utilized the smaller banquet room numerous time for retiree functions. The staff is very accomadating and friendly. The food in very good. The cost is a little above average, but this is Philadelphia! This resturant is close to all the sport stadiums. A free parking lot is next to the resturant. There is also free parking on the street.

Good food

By Tim L |

We like this place. The food was good and priced resonably. Parking was onsight and free. Beer selection could have been better.

Great Dinner

By Barbara L |

Went for a business dinner with 7 people. Everyone,s entree was delicious. The fact that it has a parking lot also makes it a good choice. (Especially in Philly). The atmosphere is fine, and it is a large restaurant so I am sure it can accommodate large parties. This was my first trip and I will be back. Chicken Nicole is very yummy. 🐓

Nicely decorated, good service, filling portions

By RichC250 |

We had to organize a large group and the staff was very accommodating, exceptionally friendly and efficient. There were ample amounts of food for everyone and many courses to choose from. A great night was had by all!

Great food, good service, got ripped off

By DanaLau |

We went to Popi's recently with a party of 10 in town for a conference. All our food was delicious and well prepared and our waitress was friendly and attentive. When we recently our bill, it was significantly higher than expected. 4 of our 10 diners had decided to order appetizers to share with each other so the waitress said she would put them all on a sharing platter. It was lovely and we all enjoyed it. When the bill arrived, the waitress had charged us for 2-3 of each of the 4 appetizers without informing us. The platter was $158! After complaining and having the manager over for a lengthy discussion, they finally removed the charge for 2 of the extra appetizers. Still a ripoff and left a bad taste in our mouths.

Amazing fresh pasta and great service!!!

By RJFfromCO |

Called for a reservation for 9 and arrived quite early, they accomodated us without issue. Service was great and the food even better!!!! The only downside is they would not split the tickets for us. I would absolutely visit this restauarnt again.

Italian Dining MUST DO!

By David L |

An ABSOLUTE MUST DO! The BEST Italian I have had in Philadelphia! This is a little pricey, buy well worth EVERY PENNY. The service is traditional and OUTSTANDING! Vincenzo was EXCEPTIONAL. Big bonus is how quiet this restaurant is.... we could actually carry on a conversation without raising volume, and I did not have a headache when I left. I had tbe Popi's salad to start, which was EXCELLENT. I paired the Argentinian Malbec with the Shrimp Daivlo for dinner. DELICIOUS! I have not had Diavlo that good before. Finished with a Limoncella and peach poundcake. GREAT and HAPPY ending! If you want a nice, relaxing night out with GREAT food and EXCEPTIONAL service, this is a MUST DO!

Out with old friends

By bmacnjMountLaurel_Nj |

Dinner with friends we hadn't seen in almost 30 years. Reserved table was ready for us when we arrived. Service was prompt. Food excellent and reasonably priced. Sat and caught up on old times and weren't rushed by the staff. Easy on site parking and easy to get to from major thoroughfares. Have eaten here before and were confident our out of town guests would like it. They loved it!

I keep coming Back!

By Chris C |

The epitome of an old style Italian Restaurant, good food good service. Best bread I have had in some time.

Fabulous meal

By Julie M |

My son and I were staying at a hotel near the airport where there is not much to chose from as far as dining goes . I'm so happy we decided to get in the car and drive to Popis instead of attempting another boring hotel restaurant . The service was fabulous from beginning to end . Our waitress was very helpful in our decision making . My son had never had veal and he really enjoyed her recommendation. They are known for their crab cakes so I had to give them a try . Delicious !! Fresh crab meat and wonderfully cooked vegetables . I look forward to my next trip to philly and a visit to Popis .

Not a Bad Place to Eat

By lisaanne08 |

Yesterday (Saturday, November 2) my family and I had a get-together after my uncle's funeral Mass at nearby St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church. The food and the service were very good. However, they should provide wheelchair for disabled customers. I have arthritis in my left leg, and I had to have assistance from my family members to get to the back room where our get-together was at. They had no wheelchairs there. Otherwise, this is not a bad place to eat at. Keep up the good work Popi's.

Above average Philly Italian Restaurant

By Joe D |

I can't tell you what makes this South Philly restaurant special, but it's beyond me. This one is not what was promised. The food was merely o.k. The mozzarella salad was good, the bread was mediocre and the orrecchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe was tepid. It surprises me when a true Italian restaurant uses sliced, "pizza" sausage instead of real slices of sausage in their dishes with pasta. Sliced sausage is for pizza; nothing else. And the service was slow.

Totally a waste if Money

By Allan C |

I went there in June of 2025. Im going to make this short. The food was horrible along with the service. The music was good. The server was only worried about leaving and we came in as a couple at 7pm. I spent $400 and was asked to pay not even being offered coffee or dessert and when asked she told me someone else will be able to help me. I still left a 25% tip which was my mistake. I thought since I knew the owner when I emailed to discuss this with Val she would try to make it right. Never heard back. I left several emails. I owned 3 restaurants and 2 were Italian and I got to say don't waste your time. Go to Pesto on Broad street or Gussippe and Son on Sansom Street in between 15th and 16th. This place is being Managed by a Young Man that must have been promoted from a buster and the owners don't want to be there at night. Al Crescenzo 619-922-3178

Incredible!!

By Rachel H |

I visited Philadelphia with my boyfriend and this was a date night visit. The atmosphere and restaurant were beautiful. Excellent service and the best Italian I've ever had!!

Expensive and MEH

By dumoyer2 |

Ordered the “special” suggested by the server, crab cakes. They came with a side of either salad or pasta. I chose pasta and when given a choice of one of three sauces chose the olive oil based sauce. The crab cakes arrived on the cool side and were only ok considering a $48 pirce for two cakes. At check out I asked why they were $51 on the bill and was told the sauce was $3 extra!! The server never mentioned this when presenting me with my sauce choices. A small amount of money but really they should have apologized for the poor communication and written it off the bill.

Fantastic veal parm

By Chris M |

Great spot for a holiday meal, always have a nice menu and you can never go wrong with their veal parm.

Great Saturday Night Dining Experience

By jnice817 |

Went here last night for dinner (Saturday). We had reservations and were seated quickly. Service was very good. We had a generous size Popi’s salad which had fresh mozzarella cheese and a delicious balsamic dressing. We both had the specials, which were Crab Cakes (Very Good) and the Veal Chop (also Very Good). I didn’t give an Excellent rating because our server, while very nice and attentive, did not mention the price of the Specials and the Veal Chop was very expensive.

Exceptional Italian Establishment

By Charlie V |

Visited this establishment on 4/10/21 for a memorial luncheon for my cousin. It was a wonderful banquet hall for the family. The servers were very professional and attentive along with getting our drink orders, water & coffee. The food was exceptional. Everyone started off with Escarole soup as the first course, the soup was very flavorful and was hot upon arrival, then the second course was Penne pasta w/ red sauce, cooked to al dente and was a surprise to the palate of fresh basil in it's flavorful sauce, the cheese and hot pepper sprinkled on the pasta brought the dish together. Then the main course, I chose Chicken Parmigiana, the chicken was very delicious and was served with roasted potatoes & sauteed string beans, it was all very good. Then came dessert with a perfect ending, a cannoli, crispy & light shell filled with a sweet ricotta cream. The only critique I have is the rolls that were delivered to all the tables, they were cold, so warming them up before service would've been nice. I was impressed with this establishment and I highly recommend as a Culinarian & Foodie myself this was a positive experience.

Great italian restaurant !

By Vincent D |

Enjoyed dinner there with some friends on March 10th prior to a Flyers game. Food and service was excellent. We had some drinks and enjoyed some appetizers like stuffed hots and antipasto. For dinner I had Chicken Sicilian which feature chicken with cherry peppers and black olives. Meal was amazing it was a shame the hockey game wasn't.

Old Fashion Italian in Philly

By JBentraveler |

The Christmas spirit is alive and well at Popi's and the neighborhood. All the homes and the trees in the area were all lit up. This eclectic Italian restaurant is a surprise. The locals are come straight from work and the white table cloths along with work boots tells you this place is all about the food and friends. We started with the crab cake for an appetizer. It was loaded with crab and cheese. Although it was lightly fried, it was very good. The grilled tune was excellent and the veal chop was the best! It had a layer of tomato and mozzarella cheese on top. The recommendations for both were given to us by the waitress and she did not steer us wrong. Next time in town, I will be back.

Great Recommendation

By Steven A |

We were staying at Marriott in Philadelphia Airport looking for place to eat nearby. This restaurant was recommended by the bartender. What a great recommendation. Upon arrival we found the place to be quiet on a Thursday night. We took seats at the bar and had a wonderful experience with our bartender and her knowledge of the menu. The four items we ordered veal and chicken parmigiana, gniocchi and lobster ravioli. Each meal was excellent and deserves a five star. The veal which can be temperamental was tender and the gravy(sauce) was homemade. Even though we live an hour away this will be return trip when visiting Philadelphia again. Extra is the drink prices were inexpensive but not sure if we were charged happy hour prices or regular.

A very pleasant dining experience...

By cjmurphysr |

My wife and son and I had dinner at Popi's Italian Restaurant this past Monday evening. We had a very pleasant experience. My wife's crabcakes were a bit too bready but my son's chicken parmagiana and my veal were excellent. Desert was excellent and refreshing. Our portions were generous in size and arrived quickly and were obviously freshly prepared quickly delivered to the table. Our server was quite attentive and paid attention to our requests for variations on our dinners. She kept our glasses full. This is a family restaurant in a relatively quiet neighborhood not far from the airport. I suspect being there on a Monday evening explained the light crowd but I'll bet the place is hopping on a Friday or Saturday night. Well done Popi's, well done!

Over charge

By sunlover649 |

Went with a group of 6. Didn't notice the tip was included on the bill and left an additional tip. Initially thought it was kind of the waitress to bring this to my attention and she offered to revise the bill. She was reluctant to give me a copy of the revised bill but I insisted. I checked with my credit card and she submitted the original receipt with a double tip and also noticed I was over-charged 3 entrees. Left several detailed messages and no one called back. If it were an honest mistake, they would have called back. Shady business practice.

Great food, but don't ask to split the check!

By Karn J |

This restaurant was recommended by a local resident we met on a bus. The food was amazing! We tried a wide variety of dishes and the only thing that seemed to disappoint was the crab cakes. Those that ordered that appetizer said they wish they had chosen something else. The eggplant rolletini was amazing! Chicken and veal Parmesan were both excellent, as were the pasta and fillet specials. Our group of 9 was very happy with the food. Based upon how busy they were at 4:30 on a Saturday, it's clearly a very popular place, and for good reason. My only complaint was that they refused to split the check. We all know that every restaurant can do that now with their POS system, so there is no excuse for refusing, except t be difficult. They did say they would take as many form of payment as we wanted. Yeah, that works its a group that large! It can, but me ver very well. (yes, we asked before we ordered!) If we are in the area again, we MAY eat there, but only if we are in a smaller group. Their refusal to split the check added a hassle factor for us as customers that just didn't need to be there. That part disappointed.

An amazing dinner thoroughly enjoyed.

By tazmtnbiker |

We are going down memory lane visiting our home town. We took in a Phillies win and then decided to visit a favorite in south Philly. It was nice to eat in an excellent Italian restaurant with an excellent offering. Our appetizers were excellent. The squash bisque was delicious as was my shrimp filled with horseradish and wrapped in bacon. The Popi's salad was awesome as I love a good salad. The seasonal harvest salad was excellent. The entrees were delicious. The pumpkin stuffed ravioli were wonderful. I am a veal lover. The veal dish with shrimp, scallops, crab with a great sauce was fantastic. The side of vegetables and red potatoes were a great add. The service by Canela was excellent. Next time in town we will be back. Brought back a lot of memories of Frank Audino and my love for LaVigna. RIP. Love great authentic Italian cuisine.

Very good food and service at Popi's

By FANNYJACQUELINE |

My husband and I stopped for drinks and then dinner at Popi's. This place is good. Since it's in the outskirts of Philly and they do catering as well, they have a parking lot available to all customers. The drinks were great, the food was very good and the service (Vince) was awesome. I definitely recommend it.

Restless in the restaurant

By suamadre |

We arrived with a group of friends and family. The atmosphere is very nice. Waiting for our meal took too long and when it did finally commence then in between each course it took much too long. I will say the pasta I had was cook al dente..., great yet the flavor was bland. The crab cake was full of stuffing, I think it tasted like mashed potato filling with a few piece of lump crab meat.. It was breaded on the outside. The flavor was nice but not anything I would recommend. I personally will not hurry back to Popi's for an Italian meal in the future.

Philly Italian

By VFLBluesBrothers |

This is a simple, classic Italian restaurant where the food is good and the service is ok. The appetizers were tasty and the entrees were plentiful. Everything tasted good and it seems all in our party were pleased with the food and drink. I would definitely eat here again when in Philly.

True Italiano

By Joseph A |

Wonderful in every way. Can't wait to go back and bring the family. Our meal was authentic, well prepared and worth every penny. The Tartuffe for dessert was amazing.

We had an excellent time.

By Len S |

Our party of 9, included adult children and their significant others on a Monday night just before New Year's. The original reservation was for 8 but they were very accommodating when I called that afternoon to increase it by one. I had read good reviews indicating this place was good for groups. Some concern had been expressed about the noise level but this was not a problem for us, as the restaurant was not very crowded. Atmosphere was nice but you would not go to this location for its architecture or ambience. Evening started out great with a cheerful welcome from the hostess. Our waiter, whose name I forget, was an engaging young man who was attentive and informative. He brought added value to our experience, from the description of the dishes to taking photographs of our group. Food was fresh and excellent. For appetizers we had the antipasto but especially enjoyed the stuffed mushrooms and eggplant rolenta. Everyone reported that their meals were very good. We topped things off with dessert, crème brule, tiramisu were the two most popular and did not disappoint.

Good traditional food, slow service

By LooseEnds |

The food was good, but of a traditional Italian-American type. Portion sizes were a little above average. Our waiter was very nice but difficult to hear above the noise of the restaurant. Service was prompt all throughout the meal, but then....from the time they took away our dinner plates to the next time the waiter stopped by the table was 1/2 hour! We watched as he showed the table next to us the yummy looking dessert tray, assuming he'd bring it by our table next. But he disappeared back into the kitchen. From time to time he came back out and checked on other tables, but never even glanced over at us. Eventually when we saw him at another table I stood up to go get his attention, so he finally came over to us. By then we were fed up and just wanted to get out of there asap, so no dessert. It was a very disappointing end to an enjoyable meal. I would probably have given this an above average rating, but that seemingly endless wait at the end ruined it for us.

Excellent food, large portions

By Paul B |

Service was quick and good. Food was excellent with very large portions. Prices were average, $16 for chicken parmesan. But the portions make this a great deal.

Nice catered affair

By Bphman |

We came here for a rehearsal dinner. It is established place deep in South Philly. It was a typical catered event but the soup and pasta they served was very good. I had chicken piccata that was a little bland as it always is. Many had the crab cakes and some enjoyed them while others didn't but they looked good. The servers were hard working and the event was fun. I would rate them above average. Can't say anything about value but it was a good event.

Surprising

By André S |

Located in the middle of nowhere from a tourism perspective, hide a beatiful restaurant so call popi's. The experience is complete, no wonder the restaurant is full and others comments on the web are positive. From welcome to treating, servicing is excellent. The food for price very good and the legendary italian family spirit, au rendez vous. Bon appetit.

Dinner at Popi's

By Sandy H |

Fabulous atmosphere, service, and food. Classy and not overly pricey. Got the seafood pasta special with gluten free pasta. Felt like I truly experienced the culture of Philly.

Very pleased with this lovely spot!

By Josey311 |

This restaurant came recommended by my sister. It's located close to the stadiums in Philadelphia and we were looking for a dinner spot pre-game. The food was delicious. Loved their red sauce. A little pricy. Service was good.

Disappointing

By gabbie-TA |

Ate with a group on Saturday 20th. Waitress was lovely and friendly until we queried the bill - I ordered a starter of calamari. It never arrived. When I asked was told it was on the main platter which 4 of my colleagues had ordered. Steak for main course - was lukewarm and undercooked. Music was very loud. Plus points - wine/cocktails good and lively atmosphere but wouldn't return.

Processed Turkey on THANKSGIVING ...Unforgivable

By r r g |

Yes, it`s taken me a long time to decide weather to write this or not; but I talked it over w/ the family & they agreed it`s ok. Our family has been going there for over 15 yrs for almost all holidays & family events. They are 1 of the few south Philly places that can accomodate 10, 15 folks at a time with ease. And altho there`s nothing special food wise to write home about, It`s a well appointed rest., seasoned wait service, and u can alway count on meeting friends u know there....... BUT, NOT THIS PAST THANKSGIVING !! 1st we ordered the large plate hor d`ovres, and it was loaded with about 7 different well prepared items....clams casino, etc - not cheap $ 125.00. and then all 11 of us , of course, ordered Turkey.......and here`s where I could cry; the plate contained tasty( but canned) string beans-tasteless sweet potatoes( canned) & PROCESSED TURKEY SLICES...Yes, u read right, all 44 slices were the same size, tasteless, and we were agast! Could it be - could they have the nerve...on ''T'' day ? so, maybe i had 1 drink too many, but no, cause my cousin S`s new husband is a top chef on the Main Line and he couldn`t believe it either...well to make a long story short ,we all kept our mouths shut- except for my sister, who balked & made them take hers back and didn`t eat. Moral of this story is they lost our business forever & some other people we know also. Popi`s ! How could u do this to all those people ( they had a full house T.Day) Especially when wholesale Fresh turkey is cheaper then processed. Or was it just easier, and u tho a bunch of older South Philly customers wouldn`t know the difference? There, it`s off my chest. rrg

Yum!

By daski |

Loved Loved Loved the Crab Cake. This was ordered as an after thought as the waiter notified us that the crab cakes had won awards! This would not have been on my radar to try in the least. I think I would order this as my main dish on a return trip! I ordered the Lobster ravioli special and it was spectacular. The wait staff was excellent. He was knowledgeable and friendly! Thank you for the great experience!

Great food, ok service

By Simara |

The good: the food was VERY good. The chicken Nicole was delicious and cooked to perfection. The tiramisu was not tradicional (more like vanilla pudding with vanilla fingers inside and lots of cinnamon) but it tastes very good as well. What could be better: our waiter was arrogant. He asked two different times what we wanted to drink and when both times we said tap water he would look at us like inferior beings. We actually asked him if there was a problem with the water in this area (we are tourist) and he said no, but it’s just tal water. Also we asked for extra bread and he never brought it. Finally, he spilled the cup of Tiramisu he brought to me and then put the cup straight again and didn’t even apologize or replace it. I would return for the food but would request a different waiter.

Great food not so much service

By terrymH2975WK |

I cannot say enough about the food. The food was great. I am picky and usually only eat my home cooked Italian food. I ordered the gnocchi and was pleasantly surprised. The calamari was so tender it melted in your mouth. I had the most pleasant waitress. She was very personable but not so attentive. A few times I wanted another drink and had to get her attention or ask someone to get her. What irritated me the most was when I asked another waitress for the manager. She never got him...instead she was very unprofessional and told the waitress who then confronted me. Don't get me wrong she couldn't apologize enough. She handled the situation well. However, if I ask for a manager. I expect a manager that was very unprofessional. I loved the food and atmosphere. Kudos to the chef.

Decent food, Slow kitchen

By clevertravelers |

Have been to Popi's once a year or so for over a decade. Visited this week with family. Pros: The servers are always pleasant and the food has never been disappointing. There is a bar and plenty of dining space. They can handle very large parties. Plenty of off-street parking. Cons: The dining room can get loud. The kitchen (not waitstaff) is very slow. Even arriving at 11:30am for an early lunch, we were there until 1pm. Large portions allow for take-home, and our lunch for 4, including 2 desserts was $50. So not a bad deal, and if you don't have to rush back to work/home the slow service may not bother you.

Friendly staff, food cooked well.

By localeater64 |

My first visit here. We were a table of 13 for a family get together. We were greeted with a friendly smile and asked if we would like to check our coats. Then sat at the bar awaiting the rest of our table. Appetizers ordered were: calamari, bruschetta, and cheese and meat trays. All were very good. I had the Fruitte Di Mare and my wife had the Veal Di Mare. Both were delicious. Cooked well add served hot. I was a little surprised they had only 1 server for such a large party. As the food service was good, trying to get a second or third cocktail was a bit hard. Altogether it was a pleasant dining experience in a lovely atmosphere.

Dinner

By PKMcgrew |

We very much enjoyed the food. The restaurant was loud with lots of business which is a good indication however after a long day of travel we were hoping for a quiet dinner!

Great place, highly recommended!

By SB4SD |

We were in Philadelphia taking our daughter to college and had dinner here with friends who live in the area. It was outstanding. The Chicken Alexander was incredible!

Nice Local Italian

By janicepk |

It was a quiet Sunday and food was delicious. The apps were great: clams casino and lamb chops (!). The veal saltimbocca was excellent as was the chicken parm. The veal chop was just ok.

Great Restaurant

By Wildycat |

We had dinner here at about 4 PM on a Saturday and was extremely busy. Fortunately, we had a reservation. The food and service was absolutely terrific. Salads, Antipasto, Ravioli, etc. were all prepared and presented very nicely. It's quite noisy so if you want a quiet, relaxing dinner this might not be the place.

A Recent Visit

By William P |

The most recent visit here was for a funeral luncheon. The menu items were limited but good. It helped with the healing that we were not rushed to finish our meals. They are a good facility for this type of gathering.

A very good South Side Philly Italian

Popi's was recommended by our hotel near the Philadelphia as an excellent Italian eatery for a casual evening with my colleague. The hotel was right. This is a medium sized restaurant that was full of families having a fun evening dining out. the service and server was good and the prices were less than I expected. I had a seafood mixture with pasta and my friend had Lasagna. We were both happy and the pasta was especially tasty. This is a good stop for a nice meal in a good atmosphere.

The food was great as always. Service not so great.

By Searching4Zen |

e food was great as always. Service not so great. We were the only three in the entire restaurant and it was an awkward service. They had to find our server and we continued to need to find the server.

Great Food!

By YDM425 |

The server was very helpful in helping to decide a great option for dinner. I settled with the crab cakes. No words can describe how delicious they were. Service was excellent. Prices were reasonable. The atmosphere of the restaurant truly made you feel like you were in a part of Italy.

Awesome!

By abe08 |

Our hotel recommended this place to us. It was wonderful, clean and service was outstanding! Nick was wonderful and accommodating. Definitely coming back next time we come to Philly.

Much better than anticipated

This is a reasonablly priced restaurant that has really good food. Loved the menu. Great for a visit before a game or show. Very close to the stadiums. I will definitely go back.

Great Restaraunt in South Philly

By Steve T |

Prior to going to a concert at Wells Fargo center, we ate at Popi's. Wow !! Great food and service without spending a lot of money and paying for parking. Both of us had Italian dishes that were excellent. The $30 bottle of Chianti was great too. It nice when you can have a great dining experience without being rushed and paying big bucks.

A touch of Italy in Philly

By Vacation620 |

Had an early dinner here before going to a concert at the Wells Fargo Center. My wife & I both started with a Caesar salad with their home made dressing, good way to start the meal. The main course was Fruitte Di Mare for both of us, I had the red sauce & my wife had the white wine garlic sauce. The seafood was cooked to perfection, the sauce on both seasoned perfectly. For dessert we had creme brulee & peach shortcake......Delicious !! The service was friendly & attentive. Will definitely come back next time in the area.

Classic old school Italian

Very good food in a simple setting. Antipasto salad is a favorite. Love the red sauce. Stick to the classics

Don't bother, they don't!

By AdelleKirkCsontos |

Service was nonexistent. Bartenders were rude. Bar was empty and I sat for 10 minutes while the bartenders cleaned up. Then they asked me "do you need something." I thought "no, genius, I'm just sitting here for the hell of it." When I ordered a drink then asked for a menu, she acted like I was putting her out. Don't go unless you feel like being treated like a rag.

Luxury italian dinning

By David C |

Went at 9pm on a Saturday night - choose to sit outside. Staff was prompt and excellent. Had braised asparagus and Chicken Alexander. Both of which were well prepared, good presentation and tasty. My friend had fried Calamari which was unsatisfactory - undercooked. When the waiting staff noticed that it was uneaten they immediately removed any charges for it from the my bill. That voluntary and thoughtful act was unexpected and saved this experience from total disaster to "things happen". I would return although not order the Calamari.

Staff and service was excellent, nice bar music filled the dining room for a authentic Italian feel.

The customer comes first

By cenadog |

We stopped at Popi's for a late lunch and although we were one of two parties in the main dining room, the food, ambiance and service were very good. Popi's offers a varied menu with very affordable prices. Our Server , Frank was attentive, flexible and pleasantly conversant. This is a go-place which provides parking and is conveniently close to the sports complex.

Great place for a dinner before a show

We stopped in here for dinner before going to a concert.... there were two of us and we each had a very nice meal! The service was also good. The atmosphere is also very pleasant.... will return!

Dinner before concert

By Ro G |

My husband and I recently ate at Popi's in South Philly for the first time. We had looked in advance for a place to get a decent meal before seeing Elton John at Wells Fargo Center. Fortunately, I'd made a reservation via internet two days before our big night, because I knew there would be a lot of concert goers wanting to eat there. For those not familiar with the area, Popi's is just a few miles away from the stadiums, so the location is extremely close and convenient. Popi's is much larger than it looks from the outside. In addition to several dining rooms there are banquet rooms for large parties. My husband and I really loved the understated ambience and the food was delicious. Our waiter was extremely nice, prompt in getting whatever we requested, and very knowledgeable about the menu. We plan on returning when visiting Philly.

Worth it!

By Bonnygale |

An early dinner on a Sunday found us without crowds, though the four of us had a reservation. Drinks in the bar were good, though why they drizzled green stuff on my Irish coffee was a mystery. The ingredients alone should suffice! Salads were crisp and tasty, special crab cake over lobster succulent, and various pastas delighted. We were in a room with 30 people who were celebrating a surprise birthday, which could have been uncomfortable but there was enough distance to separate us. Bathrooms top notch, waiter a bit too too. But the meal was great!

Very good food and service

By Red Davis |

Stopped at Popi's for dinner last night. This is my second visit in the last couple of months. I sat at the bar and received very professional and prompt service from Sherry. She explained the questions I had about how a couple of the dishes were prepared and made recommendations based off of my questions. I ordered a garden salad with house dressing. Salad was very fresh with a nice variety of crisp veggies. For the main course I had the Orecchiette. It was homemade pasta with a very light sauce, broccoli rabe and sausage. It was very enjoyable. The only disappointment was the bread. It was very hard and crusty, not bad just not my type of bread for dipping in a nice sauce. Overall, very good and will stop here again when visiting Philly

Pleasant surprise tuck away in S. Philly

By Jack W |

My wife, son and I had never been to Popi's, and never would have since it is not in your usual restaurant enclaves in the city, including S. Philly. We were pleasantly surprised by our experience there, and will definitely return. It is a nicely designed, decorated and comfortable facility where carrying on a conversation is easy and relaxed. The food is delightful. I had a spinach salad that included pecans, Gorgonzola cheese, grapes and a few other additions dressed with a nice, light vinaigrette. My son had the Chicken Alexander which he said he liked very much. It was a meaningful pile of chicken with artichokes, sliced mushrooms and broccoli. My wife had the gnocchi which was a generous portion of homemade, pillows of ricotta cheese gnocchi. The half she could not finish went home to my other son who chose to stay at home and watch the Flyers instead of joining us. I had the Mussels over Linguini (red) which was a pile of fresh, plump mussels that buried the pasta and nicely so. We also had a superb Amador County zinfandel from the wine list that had something for everyone's tastes and budget. Our server was attentive and gave us all the time and space we needed to enjoy the night. If you haven't been to Popi's, go and soon. It is amazingly easy to get to and find.

South Philly Italian

By CuriousTravelerRadio |

Our hotel near the airport recommended this restaurant and we decided to give it a shot. Popi's is in a residential neighborhood not far from Lincoln Financial Field. Popi's was a real gem. Every dish, including the salad, was perfectly done and combined with exceptional service. This place is a welcome change from the typical generic chain restaurant. I would eat here again in a second. TIP: Enter through the main restaurant door on the right side as you face the restaurant.

Okay

By Debbie H |

Just because they reside in south Philly does not make this a great Italian restaurant. The food is okay. The gravy is a little too heavy for me. The raved about crab cakes are good, but they need a little more taste for me. The service was good. Eat a little early because near 9:30 on the weekends, the music starts playing and the dancing begins.

Quiet South Philly Classic

By 1972Harry |

Been going there for years, usually for lunch as I work nearby but occasionally for dinner. Great Italian food. The lunch menu isn't that big but it covers all the traditional Italian favorites nicely. The food is reasonably priced and they have a good selection of alcohol. Indoor or outdoor table seating with a free parking lot next door. I recommended the place to a "stuffy" friend who can be picky about where she eats. Even she thought it was great. Good for business meetings or dinner with the family, including children. The noise level tends to be on the quiet to moderate side. Not a sports bar and no rock music coming through the speakers. Good food, good service, decent prices, and best of all, especially considering it's South Philly, free off-street parking.

Great Find!

By Connie L |

They have a parking lot which makes a comfortable start. We met a group of finds at Popi's . It was my first time at this restaurant. What a lovely surprise. We were early so had a couple of drinks at the bar. My margarita was perfect. The bartender made great cocktails and was attentive and friendly, The décor pleasant. We were 9 for dinner. Popi's had a nice wine list and we ordered several bottle of a very nice cabernet. The claims casino were great - the authentic recipe with no filler. I had a popi's salad without the olives. It was good and a nice size. My husband had the shrimp wrapped in bacon which was wonderful. I had the veal di mare. Veal with shrimp, scallops and crabmeat - delish! I tried a friend's crab cake ( one of Popi's specialties which is always on the menu). I love Bobby Chez' crab cakes and Popi's crab cake was just as good if not better. Tirimesu was awesome and not as coffee flavored as in most restaurants. Service was excellent and everything served was delicious. It was Staurday night and they had a DJ in the bar area that sang Frank Sinatra songs and sounded just like him. After a while he just spun great tunes and we danced. A great time! We will be back!!!

Royally scammed

By Sue J |

We were looking forward to a great night out. Staff were friendly if a little over attentive. However, the food was only adequate - not hot enough. Unfortunately we were scammed with an extortionately priced starter platter. Having chosen 5 starters at approx $15 per person our server offered to bring them on a sharing platter so we could all have a taste. We agreed and thanked her for the suggestion. The meal progressed and although a dessert tray was presented no order was taken. Moments later the bill arrived - cue open mouthed shock and consternation. We had been charged $158 for the starter platter. I call the waiter, she sends a manager. I remain calm polite and assertive. State my case, ask for $75 reduction, repeat like broken record - my assertiveness trainer would have been proud of me. Not a budge out of yer man. He says we always add extra portions for a platter.I see, sez I, but you omitted to tell us that fact. Round and round we go. In order to escape and not cause our Philadelphia friends and colleagues any further embarassment we finally accept a $40 reduction having paid a whopping $70 for an average italian 2 course meal - never again. Moral of the story - if you chose to eat at Popis order individual appetizers, share nothing and re- check your bill b4 paying - and there was a whopping 20%compulsory service charge because there were 10 in our group - and half of our number had no starter. Bahhh - feeling ripped off entirely. Plus the manager was being lippy about us as we fled. Poor show from the country where customer is king. Can't imagine I'll be ever going back or any of the 200 delegates at the conference we were attending locally.

Such great food!

What's better than Italian food when it's freezing outside?? God was absolutely amazing, fresh, homemade, tasty. The service was great. We took tiramisu for dessert - amazing‼️

Big disapointment

By deborah G |

I had heard and read great things about this restaurant but I was EXTREMELY disappointing. I do have a pet peeve with restaurants that have a long list of specials that are described by the wait staff but where no prices are disclosed in the presentation. And that is what happened here. I knew I was in trouble when I tasted the bread. South Philly is known for it's Italian bread, but the bread served here was not crisp on the outside like good Italian bread should be, rather, it was doughy, rubbery and unsatisfying. I made the mistake of ordering the crab cake special, since I was assured that this restaurant was famous for their crab cakes. When I cut into the cake, I did find large pieces of meat, but it was held together with something the looked and tasted like Elmer's glue. The side dish of pasta was acceptable, so if you want to go there, stick with the regular menu and some type of pasta dish.

Worst Service I have ever experienced!

By Dennis M |

My wife and I had dinner reservations last night before attending the Eagles concert at the Wells Fargo Center. We had a 6:00 reservation because the concert started at 8:00. It took us at least 15 minutes before a waiter came and asked us for a drink order. We also ordered appetizers and entrees with our drinks because we wanted to make it to the concert on time. After an eternity, our appetizers arrived but no drinks! After another drink request we finally got drinks after a 10-15 wait. It was now 7:30 and we told our waiter we had to leave for the concert and we would pay for our drinks and appetizers. He apologized and when he went for our check , he brought back our entrees. We ate as quickly as we could and then had to wait for someone to give us our check. When we got to the concert the Eagles were already playing. Thanks Popi. I'll never be back!

Excellent go to Family restaurant

By Phillyguy65 |

My family loves Popi's. The food and service are always top notch. My old fashioned and champagne were perfect. I absolutely loved the brucheta appetizer. You can't go wrong with Popi salad. The veal di Mare was perfectly prepared. The tiramisu was lovely and my cappuccino was stupendous. A great meal and will return.

South Philly fave before the game

By jmike08 |

I have been going to Popi's for 15 years. I live in South Jersey and Popi's is THE place to go before the game be it Phillies, Sixers or Flyers. What I enjoy best and can count on: Family feel, friendly service, local flavor, delicious meals, comfy and non-noisy bar, easy parking

Wonderful family gathering place

By Mary Ann D |

I have been here several times and each time come away with the thought "I need to come here more often!". The ambiance is soft and lush, the service is courteous and professional and the food is out of this world. Our family had several of the choices on the regular and their specials menu. Great selection of favorites and spins on traditional dishes. Tasty! Grand portions!

Will continue to return

Very nice neighborhood place to meet before a sporting event at the sports complex. Been there a few times in past years, service always great, food always tasty. Prices very reasonable.

One of the best meals I ever had!

By Phillyguy65 |

What an excellent meal from start to finish! The crab cake appetizer was huge and full of first rate crab. The Popi salad was delightful. I adore the goat cheese. The veal di mare was stupendous. The dish had excellent veal shrimp scallops and crab all combined in a delicious sauce with tasty sweet potatoes and long sweet peas. My desert was superb triple chocolate cake and espresso. Service was excellent! A heavenly meal with my family.

Great Place!

Six of us (2 young children) went to Popi's on Valentine's Day. The food was delicious, servers were very attentive and the atmosphere was great. They did a wonderful job decorating for Valentine's Day. Prices were reasonable, great location and we will definitely be going back!

True Italian food

Excellent true Italian food and servers! We were all pleasantly pleased with the service and our meals! Very small dining room, which got busy, so good thing our large party had reservations.

Great Italian food in Philly

Not in the heart of downtown philly has parking for free. Amazing food always good specials not on the menu. My favorite is the steak special done three different ways. Full bar and you feel right at home with the staff. Priced right great experience.

Female Staff Needs to Step Up their Skills

By DSpa0514 |

The environment is beautiful and well kept but the Hostess/Val, needs to be welcoming and congenial along with the female wait staff. It wasn't only myself who recognized it; they were a turn-off to many in our large funeral luncheon group. We expected a little compassion & respect but were faced with sarcasm and just uncalled for rudeness. I guess they don't know that patrons are the butter on their bread! We found the male wait staff to be attentive and friendly. The food was delicious but no one asked if we needed anything or how everything was? Really, why not! It seemed as though they just wanted to get us in and get us out; that's sad. I may give Popi's a try for lunch or even a dinner date but I'd never book it for a group event; well, not unless I was assured they had a few c/s lessons learned!

Very nice South Philly Italian Restaurant

By UrbanMonkey48 |

Nice contemporary interior. Bright and warm. Very pleasant staff. Nice neighborhood convenient to entertainment venues and stadiums. Ordered 2 of the daily specials. Crab cakes with a side of pasta. Salmon topped with cranmeat with a side od pasta. Served with Italian bread and dipping oil. Food was served hot feom the kitchen, which is unusual because most food comes to the table barely warm at most restaurants. Bravo. Both entrees were delicious. Our one negative. We were told the crabcakes were $28 and the salmon was $26' when we inquired before ordering. When we were given the bill. Both were listed as $31. We did not take issue at the time as we needed to get over to the Sun Bank Center for a show.

Excellent As Usual

By BobP0916 |

One of my all time favorites. We went with 10 people and 2 children Sunday afternoon for a Birthday Celebration. we had made reservations so were seated quickly. We started with a appetizer sampler and what a dish. It contained Lamb Chops, Eggplant Roallatini, Shrimp in Bacon, Calamari, Clams, Brochette and dipping sauces. I had the Veal DeMare (Veal with Shrimp, Crab and Scallops) it was excellent, also at our table was the steak special which was 3 medallions of filet with different cheese toppings it was excellent, we also had an array of Pasta dishes and Veal dishes all excellent. For had dessert consisting of tiramisu, Creme Burlee (one with candle for the birthday boy), peach shortcake and ice cream. It was a great meal with great service from out server Ray

very surprised

By Eric C |

I was excited to go to this restaurant. There was a group of 23 of us. They did not set us up in the manner in which we requested (where the tables and chairs were to be). We arrived at 6:30pm. Our waitress yelled at me twice (one for mispronouncing a meal and the other because she was ready to take my order and i was in the middle of a conversation). by 8pm, we still did not have food, and had to request salads. The waitress miscounted our food when brought out. The food was good, and the desert was amazing. The service not so much

Great date with my husband!

Great food and service. Was there this summer with my husband and looking forward to going back soon. Specials are great!

Simply Delicious!

By Nancie403 |

The staff there is just great! From the bartenders to the waitstaff. The food is centers around Italian cuisine & they do it up right! Their dinner "specials" are dynamite, they always seem to have something for everyone. My friend whom I went with several times loves the Stuffed Pork Chop bone in, their selection of wines are great also. Nice place to have a nice time & enjoy great atmosphere & food!

Yummy Italian food!

By Doreen J |

We found this gem while researching restaurants near Citizens Bank Park. The menu was varied, my wine was crisp, and our entrees were delicious! The bar area was hopping on a Friday night, so it was not a super quiet atmosphere, but was an enjoyable dining experience.

Good Meal at Popi's

By Herbert S |

Went to Popi's Restaurant last night with a group of 8 friends. Meals were very good, our server was very informative about all the specials and with refilling drinks. Only disappointment was that your meal does not come with any soup or salad, it must be ordered ala carte. We were not told this as we would have ordered. On well, live and learn. Good enough to go back. A little on the expensive side as with tip cost per couple was $73.

Popi's never disappoints

By Foodie Explorer |

We've been to Popi's on numerous occasions, very often before a game at the stadiums. The usual traditional Italian offerings on the menu. Nonetheless always well prepared. I typically go with a special which is usually just that, something 'special' - a different take on fish or meat. I have found the service to be excellent, even when busy. Open for lunch which this visit was. Many of the same offerings as dinner along with various sandwich options. We will continue to visit Popi's as our go to place before or after a game in S. Philly.

Gross and inconvenient

restaurant was excellent. Quiet, nice bar and attentive staff. Food was excellent, portions just right, and antipasto was the bomb.

Ok, if looking for a nice place to hang out and have an ok meal.

By Andre G |

Restaurant is well kept and provides a fun family environment. Service was not very good at all. Waited ten minutes when we first sat, then waited ten minutes for bread, then waited the entire dinner for someone to check our drinks. Finally had our drinks refilled as the check came. Food was decent at best.

Great Food, Okay Service

By MrJeremyT |

Well I was recommended this restaurant by a co-worker in the area and decided to give it a try. The place is in a nice little location, in a quaint little neighborhood. The hostess was really nice, and we were able to get a table right away (7pm) on a weeknight. However, it did fill up within the hour, and not an open table. Our waitress was lacking a little in the service...she was nice, but not really interactive and kind of one note. The food however was really good. They start you off with some decent bread, and an olive oil with cucumber type of dip. I got the Ravioli, and for $15 I was kinda disappointed in the portion size. On a more upbeat note, the homemade marinara sauce was the best part of the meal. The food is worth the stop, but don't expect 5-star service.

changed over the years

By sandy c |

Six of us decided to go to dinner at Popis for the holiday, a sunday late afternoon. Well when we went in , not crowded at all....... they sat us at a table where we were so tight so i asked to be moved, like i said it was not crowded at all. now a huge table and they bring us 1 small basket of bread with a little saucer of dipping oil. bad vibes at that point...... we ordered our food, which seemed to take forever. my dish was ice cold, after waiting all that time it should of been HoT The waitress said oh i'll take it back and heat it up. Wrong thing to say with paying $28 for a meal. should of said would you like another dish? service was terrible over priced and they charged for the cold dinner, oh but gave free dessert. Big deal. that was the 2nd time we were not pleased. we decided not to return any time soon

Great Italian food near the airport

By Dave K |

When the Marriott airport restaurant had a wait (yes, can you believe it) on a Monday night, a coworker and I took Uber to this terrific little restaurant nearby. I had linguini and clams, which were maybe the best I’ve ever eaten. The service was prompt and the martinis iced-cold and delicious. Two of us had a drink, shared an appetizer and each had an entree and the bill was $110 with tip. Go there, it’s great.

love this place

By maiwee |

whenever we're in S.Philly, this is the only place we eat. The food is always consisitant & delicious & service is supurb. Our waitress Jojo, is the best! She's right on point, always. You have to try Popi's. A big plus is the parking lot, which is unheard of in S.Philly.

Good food!

By travelon2468 |

We had the pleasure to check out Popi's on a visit to Philadelphia. Let me warn you; the bread is addictive. Warm and fresh Italian bread with butter, ahhh. Our salads were good, too. I ordered Italian and my husband had Bleu Cheese. Each dressing was very tasty. For my entrée, I had cheese ravioli. They appeared to be homemade with a nice red sauce that was not too sweet or too tart. Just right. My husband ordered the Chicken Parm. He had a generous portion of chicken with some pasta on the side. To top off our evening we had cannoli for desert. The filling was so creamy and delightful. If you're the type of person who wants to eat in a rush, then go to a chain restaurant where you get your bill when they serve your food. If you want a dining experience or romantic dinner, then this is the place for it. Not ultra slow, but it takes time for good food.

Disappointing

By 480Sue |

we had a very mediocre meal at Popi's. I was disappointed after reading the reviews. The service was slow and the food was mediocre. I think their only spice is salt. Other S. PHilly restaurants are much better. Would not return

Good food, poor service.

By dlb1261 |

We went here before a concert at the the nearby Citizen Bank Park. We had 5pm reservations, thinking that two hours was plenty of time to eat and make the 7pm start of the concert. We were seated about 5:10, and we ordered pretty quickly. Our appetizers were not served until around 5:50, and our entrees arrived at around 6:35. When I asked the waitress if our dinner would be out soon, she said yes, that there were "only" three tables in front of us. This was an hour after we placed our dinner order. It seems they only have capacity to work one table at a time,in what is a fairly large restaurant. Needless to say, we were late for the concert, as were many other people in the place. One table actually cancelled their order and left due to the long wait. I do enjoy lingering over a meal with friends, but this was rediculous. The food was good, but not good enough to offset missing the first half hour of the concert.

Waste of money

By Lydia S |

Worse food ever for a high price. This was the third time we gave them a chance. Never again. Seafood dry and over cooked. Asked for bake potato they gave us runny mashed potatoes. The fried chicken was so dry I nearly choked even dunking it in my husbands gravy that came with the mashed potatoes we did not order. I ordered onion rings with my oh so dry fried chicken. Nope, got more mashed potatoes. Paid extra for house salad. Lettuce was brown old. Woooow a waste of nearly 40 bucks.

Upscale yet casual

By Flutegarden |

We came here with a group of 8 including 2 kids after Disney on Ice. We had reservations and were seated in a back room which was quieter. I was nervous because the place looks fancy with white table clothes but it is kid friendly but could also serve as a special occasion place. Food was amazing and prices very reasonable. Pastas are $15-18 and meat/fish in the low $20s. Our bill for 6 adults and 2 kids with a bottle of wine was $300. Service was attentive- the food was a bit a slow to come out but it’s cooked fresh and homemade so I understand that it takes time. I would definitely go back after a game or event in the area.

Excellent choice !

By Michael S |

Excellent food! Good service. We were able to make advance reservations to accommodate our small group. I would definitely eat here again.

Typical Italian (American) restaurant

By ricky v |

Beeing an Italian of course I am picky, and Popi's make no exception, it is the usual American restaurant. Do not get me wrong, quality is fine but food is not italian...... I had great seafood on pasta and that I would reccoment, really tasty. Do not go for any wine, stay on beers or water.

Just alright

By Patrick M |

Went here on a Tuesday night. There were only a few other people at the place. The food good but not great. I had the Chicken Sicilian which was tasty but it comes with mushrooms and peppers which there were hardly any on the plate. The linguini alfredo was ok but a bit dry and sticky. The restaurant itself is clean and décor was nice. I would go back if I was in the neighborhood but wouldn't make a special trip to get here.

Good food but bad service and worse attitudes

By ro-ann |

Our party of four (adults) came in for dinner, but with it being a Saturday night, there was a wait of only about 20 minutes. We sat at the bar while waiting to be seated. When we sat at our table, we ordered within 10 mins. of sitting. Apparently our order wasn't put in for quite a while after ordering because after we had finally gotten our appetizers, we had another very long wait and still no dinner. One person in our party told the waiter that we had been waiting an exceptionally long time and questioned the current status of our meals. Three of us ordered pasta with sauce, while the other ordered chicken. The waiter immediately responded with..."I know, this has been MY problem all night. It'll be right out." Fifteen minutes later, still no food. The same person from our party went to the hostess stand to complain. A minute later, a girl who we assume was a manager since she never introduced herself, walked up and asked if there was a problem. Our party proceeded to explain what happened when she reads a receipt in her hand and said "NO, this check was put in 30 mins. ago., this is normal here, you haven't been waiting for an hour, and we're not taking your food off of the bill." Basically, she said we lied about the wait time and proceeds to say that we sat at the bar before sitting to eat. We were well aware of that and hadn't included that period of time into what we were talking to her about. Was she suggesting we were drunk after 1 glass of wine? We wanted to leave at this point. We had tickets for a concert that was starting in under a half hour and we still had to drive to the arena. The so called manager, or whoever she was, walked away in a huff. Within 5 mins. our food arrived from our less than congenial waiter. I have to say, the food was very good and of course, we expect to wait some on a Saturday night. Other tables around us were having the same issue as some complained to both us and the waiter. Our waiter apparently put our order in way after we actually ordered. The girl who came up should have had less attitude and realized that perhaps, the waiter had done this. Instead she was argumentative and nasty. Needless to say, the waiter never came back until it was time to give the check and collect the check. No more drinks/water. We will NOT be back.

Lackluster experience on Valentines Day

By phillygirlmich |

My boyfriend and I came here for Valentines Day because we went to see Jeff Dunham and I wanted a fabulous Italian dinner. What we got was lackluster. Although we were seated quickly and our server was very nice, we had to wait over an hour for our entrees (we did not order any appetizers or salad). What was even more upsetting was that my dinner (the shrimp and crab ravioli special) was barely lukewarm and my boyfriend's dinner (the chicken parmigiana) was overcooked. Because the restaurant was so busy, we did not complain to our server because we did not want to wait another hour for our food (we had reservations at 6:30 and our food did not arrive until 7:30). We did get a dessert which was delicious but still I feel like my boyfriend overpaid for a very disappointing meal. Highly doubt we will ever come back here again!!

Always a warm welcome and wonderful food.

On just about the hottest day on record, Popi's has a parking lot, air conditioning, wonderful service and excellent food. Forgetting about the weather, Popi's has all of the other things, all the time. We enjoyed gnocchi, lamb chops, chicken with seafood, limoncello gelato, lemon cake, chicken marsala and veal. All was wonderful. We will return!

Return visit with similar fine results!

By 1francophile |

My reunion dinner with two old friends was enjoyable and worthwhile! The service was outstanding and accommodating throughout our meal. They compensated us for a glass of wine for tolerating a loud party during our first half hour at this fine South Philadelphia institution. Our entrees were good with accompanying sides, that included gluten free pasta. Prices are reasonable and there is plenty of free parking on site for your convenience. Sorry, there are no copies of menus or photos to include due to our reunion that was four years in the making. Highly Recommended!

Tasty Food, Great for Family

By UCLABruin84-87 |

We went to Popi's with a large group of family. They were very accommodating as the size of our party went from 15, then to 13 and then to 8. Our waiter was very friendly, engaging and helpful. I had one of their specials, a vegetarian dish using zucchini noodles. It was great and now I understand why people talk about zoodles. I didn't know it could be so yummy. Everyone enjoyed their food. The place had a nice friendly, family vibe. It was a little on the loud side as many people were grabbing a great meal before going off to the Justin Timberlake concert. The waiter said it would quiet down shortly after they all left for the concert and he was right. I would eat there again if I'm ever in that area again.

Poor service

By linda l |

We went on Thanksgiving day. However at the time we went it was not in any way crowded. They did have a limited menu which we knew only because I called ahead, OpenTable had them listed as having a regular menu in addition to traditional Thanksgiving meal. Due to diet restrictions I called and spoke to someone on two different occasions and was told it shouldn't be an issue to tell my server. We did not realize much of the menu was premade therefore they could not alter any of the items offered. They actually did not even make an attempt. I could only drink water but trying to get my glass refilled was nearly impossible. Because everyone else had a meal that was good to very good, I still considered it a bit overpriced but okay. Until...as we were walking out the door, standing there was the hostess and the maître d' doing nothing. However, not a word to us as we left. No how was your meal, no have a good day, no Happy Thanksgiving, no thank you! Not a word. When I spend over 300. for a party of four, I expect to not have an empty glass or to wait 10 minutes for a water refill and I expect a thank you as we I walk out the door, especially if you're standing there doing absolutely nothing! Would not return.

Great Atmosphere!

By Donna f |

The food is delicious and the atmosphere is awesome! They have live entertainment on weekends. I literally thought they were playing a Sinatra CD the guy was SO good! Try the Penne Al A Vodka, it's to die for!

Relaxing and delicious Italian food

By Mbenna |

Our business had dinner in here one night and were extremely happy with the service and food. Needless to say, I don't think there was anything left on everyone's plates. The staff is fun and courteous. I had the lobster ravioli and it was amazing. The ambience had an appearance of fine dining but casual wear is appropriate.

Italian best food.

If you are in the air port area you can't go wrong. first timer. The food was outstanding and service was great. Most of all my Grand Children loved the food.

$3.50 sodas...no refills...WOW

By Michael T |

$7.00 for 2 sodas for my kids with no refills. Not even large glasses, 10 oz at best, that is a joke. Went for a funeral luncheon and nobody can to our table for over an hour. When we finally did get service, nobody smile and the help seemed miserable. A woman possibly the owner or manager politely came to our table to see how we liked our food. This bumped up the raiting from terrible to poor.

Excellent Find!!!

By KC10Dave |

Looking for a very good, not too up scale Italian restaurant on a Friday night. We found that and more. From South Jersey to South Philly was so easy. Adequate free parking and a safe neighborhood. Great ambiance. Outstanding food! Great portions for a very reasonable price. Customer service was over the top! Pauly was our waiter and had great suggestions and conversation too. Absolutely will return. Great for couples, families, special occasions, and even dine outside in nice weather. We were so glad we stumbled upon Popi's, but I can honestly say our decision to venture here and dine is a tribute and thanks to all the great reviews by their patrons, many which are loyal return customers. Thanks for the great experience!

average italian fare

By biodont |

average italian fare, really nothing special. slow, non attentive service from the wait staff. for a better meal at comparable prices go to dante and luigi's or ralph's. the asset to popi's is the adequate parking.

Great place near airport

By MaraHeras |

I got stuck at the Philly airport (don't ask) and found this place near my hotel. It is a wonderful family owned Italian restaurant. I came In alone and they offered me a seat at the bar and kept me company. I had the veal Saltimbocca with a side of the softest gnocchi (made with ricotta). ever. The bread is served with an olive oil that has fresh peppers and onions -different and so good. I definitely recommend that you visit if you are at any hotel near the airport -only 10 minutes away!

First time visit- Reunion Dinner Success!

By 1francophile |

Joined two friends not seen in a few years and had an enjoyable evening with good food and attentive service! It’s a rather large restaurant that was busy catering to large groups, but managed to turn out food that was tasty, presented well in a timely manner. Once seated we were promptly served water and presented menus, with bread and an oil dip shortly thereafter. Each of ordered a glass of wine that were undistinguished, but drinkable. We all opted for the specials of Lobster Ravioli in a blush sauce, grilled fish and my Veal Chop with Mozzarella and Prosciutto. My friends enjoyed their selections, while mine was too big to finish, so we left with about half remaining. The Veal was perfectly cooked but the toppings were more distracting than enhancing and would have better on its own. Near the end of our 1.5 hour dinner, the noise level became almost unbearable, making it difficult to hear one another. Overall, this restaurant succeeds on many level is worthy of future consideration. Recommended!

Magnificent Experience

By Stevie B |

This is by far the best Italian restaurant I've ever had the pleasure to visit. Outstanding food and outstanding service. Very elegant atmosphere, assorted menu, and reasonable prices.

I also ate at Popi's on Thanksgiving!

By Deborah M |

This is a rebuttal to the person who said that Popi's served processed turkey and canned string beans on Thanksgiving. I also dined there on Thanksgiving and from what I could tell the majority of the people in the restaurant, including myself, ordered turkey and it was not at all processed. It was fresh and so were the string beans. I heard different comments from people there and they thought the turkey dinner was absolutely delicious. Maybe you cousin's husband who is a "Chef" should go back to cooking school because he doesn't know what he is talking about. I will continue to go there for Thanksgiving.

Much more than great Italian Food.

By JMH101 |

I wasn't sure about ordering the Crab Cakes, but I'm glad I did. I already knew the Italian dishes were great and so were the Crab Cakes. You can't go wrong at Popi's. My dining partner had a delicious past and sausage dish.

Italian Time Machine

By theredwiner |

Popi's is the type of place you don't think still exists. It is "Old World Italian." The calendar has been put on hold. Approaching the restaurant you half expect to see Rocky running down the block yelling "Yo!" You are greeted like family. You can claim your table or spend some time at the bar first. The menu is extensive and the wine list suits any budget. The service is excellent and the food is delicious. We started with a gourmet antipasto and fried calamari for the table. Our party of 4 ordered the Veal Di Mare - Tender veal medallions sautéed with fresh shrimp and scallops, served in a white wine, basil, garlic sauce and topped with jumbo lump crabmeat; Fruitte Di Mare - Fresh fruit of the sea: Prince Edward Island mussels, little neck clams, chopped clams, shrimp and scallops served over a bed of linguini in a white wine garlic or red sauce; and the Veal & Sausage Scaloppine - Pan seared medallions of veal and pieces of sausage in homemade Scaloppine sauce with peppers, mushrooms and onions. All entrees are sized for a true Italian appetite. No one goes home hungry. We finished with assorted desserts, coffee, cappuccino and Limoncello before moving to the bar for an hour of dancing to a fine Sinatra tribute singer. A thoroughly enjoyable experience! This was our second visit which was as impressive as our first. It won't be our last.

Great night with family

30 years of Italian dining pleasure.

By Frank W |

Easy to find, good free parking on site, good drinks and wine and delicious south Phila. Italian food. It is a place where business owners and customers could enjoy a fine lunch or dinner before returning to work or enjoying many of the professional sporting events Philadelphia has to offer. Started by husband Nick, deceased and now operated by wife Vel it has maintained it's character as a fine restaurant. Retired now but each time I return north from Florida I try to stop and enjoy. From the pasta to the roast pork, it's the best. It is often visited by local patrons.

Nice, comfortable

By Ron J |

Ever wonder where people go for dinner after the game? They go to Popi’s. Nice setting with down home comfortable food. They specialize in Italian, southern Italian, generous portions. There is a large well stocked bar. Service was good, waitress was friendly and helpful. Street parking was easy and accessible. Great place for dinner with family and/or friends. Wear that sports jersey!

Delicious Food

By NJTraveler1960 |

I don't often get into Philly for dinner and when I do, finding a good Italian restaurant is top on my list. Popi's does a wonderful job preparing and presenting all their dishes. As the evening went on the restaurant slowly turned into a nightclub with live music and a dance floor. If you're around the airport or stadium, check out Popi's!

The "BEST" Gravy/Sauce/Marinara ... Authentic and Delicious with Great Service

By PhillyFamilyofFour |

Tried Popi's for the first-time with another couple who had been there before. Veal Saltimbuca, Orrecheitti, a couple great bottles of Tuscan red,. Long-Hots with fresh mozz and sauce; perfectly cooked calamari... arugula salad and Tartufo! for dessert. A+. To round it out, the musician playing there sounds EXACTLY like Frank Sinatra. Spot on. Lots of fun. Very reasonable. Definitely going back. It's not "fancy" -- it's authentic and great for a Sat. Night. Bring your appetite and have fun.

Another great meal at Popi's !!

By Red Davis |

Popi's has become my go to place when in South Philly on business. The service is always very friendly and professional. This past Tuesday I stopped in for dinner and ordered the special grilled Tuna steak. Sherry the bartender inquired to how I would like it cooked and I asked for the chef's recommendation. The chef was AWESOME!!! The tuna was cooked perfectly medium rare with a very nice Asian infused sauce. It was topped with and cooked with fresh orange slices that add a little sweet orange flavor to the fish. Unbelievable flavors!!! It was served with a very nice portion of garlic sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes. The star was the main course. I really enjoy Popi's for the food, service and atmosphere.

Menu heavy on veal and chicken

By Brenda P |

I dined on a Monday night about 6:30 and the bar was packed; dining room about half-full. The meat dishes were mostly variations on veal and chicken, although there was one steak offering. A few offerings in the way of pasta. I choose the special - pumpkin ravioli -- and it was very tasty. The portion size was about twice what I would eat and could easily be shared. Service was courteous and kitchen delivery was within the expected range. A nice neighborhood place.

Before concert dinner

By Stuart F |

Before we go to any concert in South Philly we always have dinner at Popi's. Great menue, specials and service . Free parking lot too! The crab cakes were awesome! Can't wait to go back

we found popi,s on the internet and we were very glad we did.from the lovely hostess to the excellent waiter everything was superb.our waiter ray explained very clearly all the specials.service was prompt and not overbearing.i prefer an occasional check-in by my server and ray was spot-on!my wife and i had the antipasti.meats, cheeses and all the things that make a true antipasti.i had the veal chop special and i would have chewed the bone if nobody was looking.my wife had fusilli and zuchini entree.she was very happy.we had no room for dessert but im sure it would have been good.overall an excellent dining experience.we're from maine so we may not be back right off but if ever in the area again-we're there! i'd like to add i was a chef at an italian restaurant for 25 yeras so i know of what i speak.

Slow service and bland food

By Ron M |

We went to popi's on Sat. 2/18 for what I was expecting good food and good service. What we ended up getting was waiter that had to be waived down every time we needed anything. The food , was to say , at the most was bland and unapealling. I had a veal parmeasen that had no taste at all , the breading was thick and the veal was paper thin. The vegitable medley was over steaamed and the mashed potatoes cold and had no taste at all. My girlfriend had the chicken alexander and the breading had an overpowering egg taste to it which overcame whatever else they tried to put into it. She couldn't even eat the potatoes. They did have live entertainment, a dj who sang along with sinatra who , when we first go there , was pleasing to listen too, until about 8:30 when he turned his mic up so loud you had to yell to be heard across the table. All in all I would have trouble recommending this place to anyone who has tastebuds and expects a good meal or decent service.

Local gem

By Joe B |

Sat at the bar for dinner. Service was prompt. Extensive menu with several specials availabe. Food was very good served piping hot. Parking can be a bit challenging but overall a good Italian restaurant. When in the area again I will be back.

Not what I expected.

By Di19032 |

It may be me but I was expecting something more then it was. Our waitress was nice but I had to ask 3 times for sugar for my iced tea. I got one of the specials that was not listed on menu and I asked for price but she was unsure and never found out either. My chicken and pastini was good but lacked seasoning. My Caesar salad was great I would have preferred more then 5 small croutons. My entree of 3 small beef filets each with a different cheese on top was overpriced and unappealing. I asked for my vegetables to be on side plate and it came out on same plate. My cannoli was good but smaller then I am used to. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Great Italian Food

By Eagle1989 |

We went here on the recommendation of the hotel we were staying at. The food was delicious. Our waiter John was great very informative about the specials and even sat down with us at the end of the night to chat a while. Will make it a point to go back again the next time I'm in Philly.

Classy Italian

By Mike W |

Great Italian restaurant with real good Italian food. Their veal dishes are excellent and the servers are friendly. The ambience is casual with a great Italian feel. I would definitely recommend Popi's Italian restaurant if you ever find yourself in South Philadelphia down near the airport.

Incredible experience

What a hidden gem. Wonderful warm greetings upon arrival. Our waitress was incredible. The food was amazing. Truly great Italian cuisine. We had the Popis salad with roasted peppers, eggplant rollatini, veal Cecilia and tiramisu and cannoli for dessert .

First class birthday party!

We celebrated our Dad’s 90th birthday party here in the banquet room at Popi’s Restaurant. Kristen was helpful from the very beginning. The food was excellent, the staff was wonderful and accommodating , the room was beautiful! We literally had no complaints.A wonderful affair that we will never forget! First class Restaurant!

Delicious Italian Food -- YUM!!

By 1234Laur1234 |

I've been to Popi's several times with my family and am never disappointed. This past Sunday, we visited again and were once again more than satisfied with both the service and the food. Some standouts on the menu to order: gnocchi, stuffed penne, filet, veal/chicken parm, Crab cakes, tomato/mozz salad, Popi's salad, arugula salad. I've had other dishes there that are phenomenal as well. The filet can be cut with a fork. Cooked to perfection! And the dessert selection is wonderful! Our waiter surprised us with his favorite. He did NOT disappoint. Order yourself a cappuccino and something sweet and enjoy!

Yo' Adrian! Check it out!!!

By JRC08053 |

Went here before the Trans Siberian Orchestra Show at Wells Fargo...minutes away. We live in SJ and its no more than 10 minutes from WW Bridge. I almost hate to review it as I'm giving away a secret! First hostesses were fabulous, followed by our waitress Christine...was there Sunday night with gf, her two daughters and son in law...everyone of us raved about the food and service. Place was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Food was excellent. Only thing I would recommend is that they offer crab cakes broiled as well as fried. Pricing cost us about $50 each....Highly recommend it. And thank you for such a pleasant experience.
