Date night on the 30th floor with amazing service

By Amanda C |

First of all the service was outstanding. Evan took such good care of us, other staff came by our table and were super attentive as well. Second, the food was out of this world, the lobster bisque, the Caesar salad and the lobster risotto were amazing. My husband had the peach bourbon scallops and shrimp. It was absolutely incredible. The views were pretty great. And the prices were amazing considering everything we had.

Amazing view

By rfrueh |

This place has the best city views in town, service is very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Food quality is very good however a bit pricey, but I guess you are paying for the view. Reading the menu as an older community member is difficult as the dining room is very dimly lit, bring your flash light. I would have expected a more creative list of non alcoholic beverages but the virgin mojito was nice nevertheless.

Special dinner

By Beth_sage |

We were staying close by and this was our night to splurge. It also happened to be prom night and saw lots of young couples - extra fun! Marco was spectacular. The oysters were divinely fresh. I had the tuna salad nicoise, my husband the steelhead and my friend had the filet mignon. All were delicious as were the drinks we selected. And we could not resist the creme brulee.

Very good

By newyorker1953 |

The view from the 30th floor is phenomenal. The service was unobtrusive and friendly. The food for the most part was very good. However, the ribeye my wife ordered ($75) came out looking unappetizing, like a pile of meat on the plate. We talked to the maitre’d and he was appreciative of our comments and to his credit, he comped the meal. The waitress later said that the chef even said it looked weird (then why serve it?). If it had been a $27 steak at Applebees we probably would not have said anything but for $75, it should look appetizing. All in all, a positive experience. I highly recommend the Waygu beef ribeye. Very tender and flavorful.

Spectacular View

Portland City Grill is my favorite place to go eat. The filet mignon is my fave & the view is breathtakingly beautiful. The Sunday mimosa brunches are also amazing! The blood orange mimosas are delish!

Won’t go back

By Shannon |

We’ve been going to PCG for over 10 years as a family for Christmas Eve. Last year was disappointing and this year wasn’t any better. Our waitress was very good but the food quality (particularly the steaks) are marginal at best and either under or over cooked. Not worth the $400-500 we drop every year. Time to find a new place for our tradition.

Dated restaurant.

By Kim Mulloy |

I could see how this was once a great restaurant, but now it is very dated. Food was ok, but very expensive. Views are great but limited window seats. People we spoke with recommend fir happy hour, not dinner.

Dinner before flying home the other evening.

By WWTraveler27 |

I had a nice glass of wine 🍷 with a steak for dinner. It was a great place to sit at the bar and watch the sunset over the city and mountains. The service was good, and the atmosphere was really nice. I would recommend it and will be coming back.

Romantic restaurant, Great service, beautiful city views & fine cuisine

By AndreaUbok |

I’m glad we were able to get a reservation for the Portland City Grill on the 30th floor with views of Portland. We sat in a romantic booth and enjoyed meticulous service. Tables for socially distant and staff wore masks. We enjoyed a memorable meal. I really enjoyed my short rib dinner it was marinated in sweet ginger and served with house smashed potatoes and curried carrot purée. My husband’s cioppino contained halibut, shrimp, calamari, scallops, Dungeoness crab on top and toast with gost cheese in a delicious tomato broth.

Great spot for a view and happy hour

By Rickebob |

This place was recommended by our ABNB host and we really enjoyed it. We went at sunset and the night time skyline views are great. Hard to get a table by the windows unless you get there early but they accommodated us the best they could. Drinks and food were very reasonably priced during "happy hour". Service was also friendly and efficient. Definitely give Portland City Grill a try if you are in town.

Outstanding view, great food, excellent service.

By Paul P |

Upscale restaurant, and a good value overall. Four of us all ordered different entrees. Each one was properly prepared, attractively plated and tasted great. Excellent wine, beer and spirits selection. Impeccable service. All with an outstanding view of Portland.

Exceptional!

By suzbernart |

Went for the epic views, stayed for a fabulous dinner, the exceptional service with Keiriana & the most magical musical performance with 2 uber talented women Camille & Jenna Maria. This made our trip, Thank you!

Super Duper views of Portland from the half way height of probably the tallest building in Portland. Enjoyed the food, though vegetarian options were limited. Courteous staff.

Look But Don't Eat

By spaventa |

First the good: A fantastic view of the city from this roof top restaurant! Not to be missed. Now, the bad: We ordered from the raw bar: my tuna roll was nothing more than a California roll (not too fresh either) with tuna poke on top, not a true tuna roll. My wife's seared tuna had an undefined sauce that gave it a texture and taste totally lacking umami. We split a salad, assuming the salad would be generous enough to do so. Wrong, I could count the lettuce leaves! So, go for the view, a drink at the piano bar. Avoid the dinner menu, at least the raw bar.

A good one

By William S |

Lovely views, clean, comfortable and exceptional service. Sushi Roll was fantastic. Delicious, moist and prepared professionally. Kalbi beef, richly sauced, tender, moist and enjoyable. Crab cakes, (more crab than"cake"), fresh, crispy and the best we've eaten ever. Need reservations to capture a window table, so take note. Special food at a special place.

Nice view and lunch

By Sungron |

The view of Portland from here is exceptional. Their brunch is, too. Forty-nine bucks for brunch seems a little spendy, but the selection and quality of dishes is outstanding. The ceviche was marvelous and the selection of Italian meats was very nice. The ceviche is pretty much a meal in itself for us seafood lovers and the oyster shooters just topped it off nicely. The sushi bar is unique in that, after seven years in Japan, I had never seen sushi rolls made with cabbage. Live and learn. All in all, it's a nice way to spend a couple of hours gorging. Service is pleasant and timely.

Not the place it used to be.

By R T |

Great view, very slow service by disinterested staff, and average food. 15 minutes to be acknowledged after sitting down. Ordered a drink that never came but was still in the tab. 30 minutes for a salad to be delivered. This place is not what it used to be.

Unbelievable Experience, the

By GoPlaces75934 |

Unbelievable Experience, the waitstaff was superb in recommendations from wine list to the entrees! The ambiance and view was beyond gorgeous! The only thing better was the fusion of flavors that danced on our palates! Simply Amazing!!

Great view

By tan822 |

Beautiful view! Live music was great and at a perfect volume, not too loud even right next to the piano. Service and food were good, a little pricey but you are paying for the view and it is worth it. Would come back.

Go for the view, especially at Happy hour which is also at 9pm!

By Alan S |

This is not a cheap place by any stretch of the imagination. On the 30th floor of an office building, the views may be the best in Portland. However, they are known for their happy hours, which are twice a day, and the latter at 9pm. They don't take reservations for happy hour, and if you plan on getting a seat, you had better get there 45minutes to an hour early. We got there at about 8:10 and were not the only ones waiting for HH. The staff is used to this as they politely came around and asked if we wanted to order anything but reminded them that we were waiting for Happy Hour, and they were ok with it. Once 9pm came, the wait staff were there in plenty to take our orders. Even at happy hour pricing, it is mid-priced, BUT, the food was spectacular, and the views were worth every penny we spent, and we enjoyed the heck out of our meal and drinks. Granted, my brother-in-law and I had recently sampled some of the local "herb" and were well on our way when we got there, but the ladies had not imbibed and enjoyed it just as much! HIGHLY recommended

Dinner with a view

By Len2014 |

Made reservations for 6:45 P.M. with window seat. Got there 6:30 sent to bar to wait for table. Ordered a Margarita $13. server was good a drink was good as was the view . Seated at 7:05 ordered grilled salmon and shrimp and glass of wine. Was 8 P.M. before we got our food which good but not exceptional. Again the view was great but the restaurant was so loud you couldn't carry on a conversation. View a 10. Service 8, drink in bar value price 8, food 5 average, atmosphere over all 4, do to noise. Recommend eat in dinning room during happy hour and in bar after happy hour to avoid defining noise. Over all over rated.

Excellent dinner with a view

By GitchSup |

We made a reservation but decided to wait a little longer to get a window seat. It was worth the wait for us, the view was beautiful at sunset. The restaurant is on the 30th floor and you get a view of the river and the Portland sign, at sunset you can watch the sun go down and the city lights come up. The food was really good, I ordered the evening special which was shrimp and a Cesar salad, it was wonderful. My husband decided to try the Rockfish Jambalaya which he was very happy with. It was a very enjoyable evening with great service and fantastic food.

Disappointing Experience

By larrys7791 |

We went to PCG with four family members to celebrate two birthdays last night and had been greatly looking forward to our evening, as we remembered the excellent dining experiences in past years but this celebration was stressful and terribly disappointing. Landry's has changed the seating so they can get the maximum number of people in for dining such that there's only enough room for one person (wait staff) to pass in between each table. When we walked in our jaws dropped open and frankly, it now looks and sounds like a cattle car. Unfortunately we sat next to a large, loud and inebriated group of approximately 16 people also celebrating a birthday. These folks were shouting from one end of their table to their friends at the other end (they took up two tables). We were having to yell across our table to converse and asked our server if he could ask this large neighboring group to quiet down, as we couldn't hear each other across the table. Nothing happened as I'm sure their waiter didn't want to lose the tip. They left a few minutes before we did and the restaurant was still incredibly loud. Our group of six consisted of 25 to 40 year olds and two 67 y/o people..... we're not just a bunch of grumpy old folks. The food: I'm told the steaks were very good, the rack of lamb was on the fatty side with one of the two sections under cooked, and the chicken dish had dry sections. Waiter: Our waiter's name was Adam and he did a fantastic job under the circumstances. He was knowledgeable, attentive. and apologetic for the delay in food (they were slammed of course) and for our "neighbors". BTW, we presented our parking ticket for validation but because we had to wait so long for drinks, appetizers and our food, the comp didn't fully cover the 2.5 hours we were seated. We enjoy other Landry restaurants such as The Chart House, The Original Stanford's and we have reservations at the Claim Jumper for next week. To sum it up, if we wanted all the noise and cattle-car experience we would have eaten at a McDonald's that has a Play Land attached to it, though that would probably have been less noisy. Needless to say we won't be back.

The food is as awesome as the view!!

By Meggysmom |

We were visiting Portland for a Biology convention and Portand City Grill was recommended for a dinner. Delicious food, great service and a beautiful view of the city and Mount Hood

Amazing Food & Service!

Celebrating an Anniversary with close friends, we shared squid, steak, and salmon. All to perfection! The best par of the evening were the drinks and the server who made them entertaining, Daniel! The whole staff worked together to make a perfect evening,

Portland City Grill Delivers

By Harold R |

Best dining experience ever! We wet for dinner and had the seafood tower, it was so good. If you ever visit Portland, the City Grill is where you need to go!

Nice food and great view

By mcgahanjj |

Was visiting Portland and this place was recommended. Is crowded on Saturday so glad we had reservations. Very good food and outstanding view as on top floor. Very nice staff. Food prepared and plated very well. Definitely pricey but nice for a special occasion.

Amazing view!

By Sandy G |

You go to the Portland City Grill for the AMAZING view of the city. Food is good, not great. But the view is spectacular. Once they can fully open up again, go for a cocktail after dark.

Great dinner spot

By Eddie Kirkwood |

Such a great dinner spot. Perfectly done steak and amazing wine. From appetizers to dinner to dessert you can’t go wrong.

Food and views were great! Restaurant filled which says something!

By steamer2 |

We went here while staying in Portland overnight. We started with several sushi rolls which were super fresh and delicious. I had the baked halibut for dinner. It was cooked perfectly. We were there on a Monday night and it is a pretty large restaurant and there was not an empty table. The views were amazing. It has been raining and we got to see a huge rainbow in the sky by our table. I would recommend taking a car or Uber here as with most areas in Portland several blocks from the neighborhood were some homeless. However, that is how it is in Portland just about everywhere. But this restaurant was a happening place and a Ray of sunshine in what is otherwise a very sad and depressing city.

Great Place for Special Occasions

4* Portland City Grill 111 5th Ave Portland On the 30th floor of the Bancorp Building; fantastic views Have Happy Hour Great place for a special occasion; large groups Food is excellent; loved the macadamia crusted chicken Full bar Superb food service

Sunnet user’s conference

By Stan P |

This is where Sunnet held the first night’s meet and greet. The views of Portland were amazing and the fair were all appetizers (which were all very tasty).

I do not recommend delivery!

By Pdxorlisa |

My delivery order arrived in a bag that was not closed - I’ve never received a delivery from anywhere in an open bag that the driver can access. To make matters worse- the lids of the two salads I ordered had popped open (those recyclable brown boxes that you tuck tops into each other) and so open large delivery bag and open salads. That’s just disgusting and unsanitary AND risky on so many levels.

Best View of the City

By Velma R |

Their Happy Hour is a must try. The menu selections are fantastic. Regular menu is a little steep for me so this is a good alternative. This is also a great place to see the Christmas Ships when the sail the Willamette River. Their selection of craft cocktails is very impressive. I have been here several times for the Sunday Brunch so if you choose to do this it is best on a sunny day so you can enjoy the views.

Great views but so noisy

By Elizabeth L |

Six of us enjoyed a dinner here. Food was good and the views even better and more beautiful at sunset. However, it is unbelievably noisy and it was hard to have a conversation. Our waiter while competent seemed too busy to give us perfect service.

Lunch

By Lynn F |

Great view and great salads. Don’t miss the view of the city. Servers are a little slow but friendly. Maybe a little understaffed at the bar.

Not worth the money

By Molly D |

Came to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Spent $100 a person and the meal was pretty mediocre all around. They used the table next to us to store all of the dirty dishes from the entire restaurant so it was loud when they kept reorganizing the dishes and gross to be surrounded by everyone’s dirty plates. Waitress was kind but service was horribly slow. Wish we could have had an all around better experience.

Service could be much better.....but the view/cocktails make it a great experience anyway

By KCinLG |

Been here before for dinner at the bar but wanted to come back to experience the good views. I made ressies via OpenTable for the first 4pm opening. Side note: this place is REALLY big, so even though you're the first seating, so is everyone else. I swear there were like 25 other parties that were seated at the same time we were. By the time we left (just an hour later), 3/4 of the restaurant was full. The hostess was nice, but her counterpart, was kinda rude and not very friendly at all. Anyway, moving on, we were seated, and our waiter came by shortly after. Although he was doing his job, he too was also not very friendly or attentive. Maybe it's bc we just had apps and drinks. Whatever the case, he took our order, served our food/drinks and never came back. We prob would've stayed for another cocktail but our glasses were empty, and no one bothered to ask if we wanted another. It's too bad we had semi crappy service. The views and company made up for it. Food was good. we ordered the calamari which was good, but note, it's not your typical one that is deep fried. It has a semi sweet glaze over it. Very good though. Fries were also good bc I like a nice steak fry. I would come back again. The two not so friendly employees did not discourage me from revisiting in the future. They were not the worst, but they sure were not the happiest campers that day. The views are amazing and will make any 'ok' experience that much better.

Good food and even better views

By Trav1913 |

We weren't actually able to sit by a window because the spaces were taken, but if you're able to wait for a space you should do so. Really good food. Good service

Great steak and views

By Journeyman78 |

Had a really good meal here. The staff are lovely and there’s a good wine list. The views over Portland are great too. Recommended.

Long wait with a reservation, lazy service, fake parking validation

By Christine Y |

My husband and I recently went on a date night to Portland City Grill for his birthday and we were very disappointed with the service. We are usually not very picky about service but when you book a reservation in advance, you expect to be seated within 15 min of your reservation time or at least expect transparency from the hostess. Instead, we checked in for our reservation on time, waited for at least 30 min standing in the lobby and finally we were told if we wanted we could sit in the bar. This was a special occasion for us so had we known we'd be seated first come first serve in the bar we wouldn't have bothered with a reservation at a fancy restaurant and would have chosen a different restaurant. From there the service was what you'd expect in a bar, not in a 4-5 star fancy restaurant. To top off the experience, when we were paying the bill they asked if they could validate our parking, took our parking ticket, returned it and as we were driving out of the garage we found out the ticket had never been validated so we had to pay full price for parking. We have been to this restaurant in the past and have never had as poor service as what we experienced so not sure if we'll be back anytime soon.

Simply outstanding!

By benthere |

I was taken there for Father's Day. Situated near the top of the 30+ floor building in which it is located, it offered splendid all-around views of the cityscape. The atmosphere was tastfully modern, upscale, relaxing, and airy. Nothing was overstated. The meal was excellent: I had the shrimp and steak. Everyone in our party enjoyed their selections. The desert (chocolate tort) was yummy. The service was outstanding! Our server, Michael, was friendly, efficient, and professional in everything he did. The whole experience was wonderful.

OK

By Kelly J |

The views are fantastic. I wish that it would be a more relaxed atmosphere. I got the vibe it was a high end place, which is fine, but I was on vacation and wanted a place to enjoy great views and a relaxed place to have a cocktail. The service while I was there was great, nice staff.

Mediocre at Best

By TravelTrendyChick |

Several issues with this place (1) Food is truly unremarkable - except for their spin on crab cakes and chocolate torte everything else is just unremarkable. (2) If you’re there for the view, reservations don’t cut it even if there are many open window tables readily available. The hostess provided some lukewarm explanation about arriving 15 minutes early and that on-time for reservation doesn’t mean anything. Okay. (3) Service is not worth the meal. The couple times we have gone there, the order of operations has been confusing. Waiters seem to take orders at random and miss at least one party at the table for at least one order. Drinks will definitely NOT be flowing, somehow we were not asked about a second round, dessert came to a dry table with just residual water. So plan to hound your waiter otherwise you’ll be waiting around for nothing. (4) Dont forget they only validate 30 more minutes than Whole Foods :) So while you wait for inadequate service you’re also running the clock on your 2 hr parking which is a finishing touch to the experience. (5) Furthermore do not go there during prime time. The contingent is not for people who want to enjoy dinner but rather those who don’t know how or when to photograph. The amount of flash that was on as people were trying to take pictures of the view out of the reflecting windows was spectacular and then they kept going for it, like they would achieve a different result in subsequent shots. Maybe the restaurant should invest in a photographer like medieval times and reduce the tackiness of flash photography… also don’t new phones have an exposure setting?

Gorgeous View of Mount Hood

By cljcullen |

We celebrated our 21st anniversary with a fantastic dinner and matching view at Portland City Grill. The appetizers were phenomenal—we could only narrow it to three choices, which we shared. Our entrees were great as well, and we left MORE than satisfied! Even better, though, were the views of Mount Hood from full wall 30th floor windows AND the friendly, attentive service from the staff. We’d definitely return to Portland City Grill.

Incredible view

By DeniceDWV |

The restaurant was wonderful. Our window table gave us a lovely view of Mt St. Helen and Mt. Hood. The staff are very professional. The food was expertly prepared. I highly recommend the restaurant.

Awesome Views

By Jrstwo |

It was a long day of travel from the East coast, so want to relax. We found it. Calamari was good start. Clam chowder another good choice. The layered blue salad was just what was needed. A return.

Grest meal and atmosphere.

By Ann Marie S |

Great views and service, not to mention the happy hour specials. The outstanding "star" of the show was the shellfish bouillabaisse!!! I will definitely go back when I am in Portland again.

Great Sunday Brunch, but pricy

By Larry R |

Everything I had was really good, except the mushroom, cheddar omelet. I did not try any shell fish. Service was great. The salmon, French toast , and ice cream were really good.

Incredible food and views!

By Kristin H |

My sister and I enjoyed this restaurant and bar so much that we came twice during our trip to Portland! The views are outstanding! On our 2nd visit we could see Mount Hood, Mt St Helens, and Mt Adams. The views are incredible, especially on a clear day. They have a really great happy hour. We loved the lemon drop martinis. We also loved dinner. My sister had the halibut and I enjoyed the filet mignon. They kindly gave my sister a complimentary dessert for her birthday. It was chocolate and raspberry, so delicious! What a wonderful visit!

Worth it

By Sandy A |

Food was great. We requested our meat to be cooked a certain way and it was executed beautifully. Drinks were tasty and the view is to die for. We went during sunset time

Wonderful Food, OUtstanding View!

By Katy M |

We had a wonderful dinner here. Steaks prepared perfectly and everything brought to our table at the right temperature for eating. Service was friendly and attentive. Only drawback is the noise in the back eating area - a little much for a romantic dinner!

Great Happy Hour

By Kendra A |

Went with some friends after 9pm on a Saturday. They have a great happy hour menu offered in the bar. The view is amazing. We ordered appetizers and drinks. I would definitely recommend.

Dependable steakhouse with incredible view

By Pnw C |

Beautiful view with nice ambience, and great service. We have been multiple times over the years and the service and food are always great.

Wonderful view of Portland at 30 stories up

By charmking |

We had a very nice Valentine’s Day lunch up on the 30th floor today. We decided to have lunch in the bar area instead of the dining area because the view was better of the river, bridges, and the city. My bacon cheeseburger was superb and my wife said her shrimp and crab BLT was pretty good. The cheesecake for dessert was also thumbs up. Service was fine with her checking on us frequently and refilling our drinks.

We went for drinks and snacks. View was beautiful. Windows all around. Food and drinks very good. Waitress was great. Would go back again.

The best service in town!

By Karen S |

My husband and I took out 7 year old grand niece for a long overdue birthday celebration. She has always wanted to "have dinner in the pink building". She finally made it and we were very glad we did. She was treated like a star by the staff. Lay, Lay and Vanessa were very kind to her and very thoughtful with food suggestions for a younger diner. Ultimately, she chose something from the child's menu (which I am happy they have available). The view the night we went was stunning! It is a treat to see the city all lighted up while enjoying dinner. Request a window table and fingers crossed one is available as they are not available for reservation. The food was delicious. This experience was really more about the service though. We just loved our 7 year old being treated so well by Lay Lay and Vanessa! I believe they both helped make it a dinner date she will always remember.

High class and excellent

By JPMcGuire |

The food was excellent. The views were excellent. The staff is excellent. We were a party of 4 for cocktails and dinner and we all very much enjoyed our time here. It is a large restaurant, and it was full, but we felt individually catered to. So often, places like this that are known for their views will let their quality of food slide - but not this place. I can not recommend it highly enough.

Great experience!

By Donna H |

I enjoyed my night out at Portland City Grill! Food was top notch and the service was great. Our server Sherry met our expectations and went beyond, making our dining experience excellent. Between the view, food and service, we will be going back for sure.

Dinner with aview

By pkcush |

I ate here twice, the first time Izzy was my waiter and what and outstanding job he did. Not only was the service excellent but he also explained my view on the 30th floor of the restaurant. The view was worth the extra cost. I had the Halibut which was done perfectly. My second experience was with Corrine. Once again the service was excellent and I had the filet mignon. There are no bad views in the restaurant.

Excellent venue for a celebration

By auditor_g-s |

Excellent venue with an amazing view over the city of Portland, we came to celebrate our anniversary and were offered a slice of cake each. Food is well prepared and balanced with vegetables in every dish. The place looks like a huge busy US restaurant, nevertheless the service is awesome.

Only average

By HertsNeil |

Great view from upper floor office block. Service friendly but slow on a busy night. Starters average, fish tepid and overcooked. You can always tell the quality of a good restaurant by how they cook their fish. Overall disappointing.

Great place for drinks and dining.

By Vince Perdos |

Great place for happy hour. Visited several times while in Portland. Great drinks, great food, great service, and wonderful views of the city.

Amazing Views, Great Happy Hour

By Todd M |

We wanted to go here for the views. Go on a clear day if you can. Dinner prices are a bit steep. But we were able to sneak in for happy hour (4-7pm?) in the lounge (no reservations for happy hour) and got an amazing table. Food was delicious. I got the burger and my girlfriend got the salmon cakes. One drink minimum per person for happy hour. Would recommend!

Don't waste your money

By PTP500 |

Very overpriced and overrated. The decor is dated, the air stale and the service though friendly was very slow. Our meals were very overpriced for the quality served. My NY Strip steak was full of gristle. The accompanying potato tasteless and the asparagus tough. The view is not worth overpaying for a below average meal.

View not worth the price

By Charlandria D |

This place was crazy loud and busy. We looked at the photos and went to the site, saw it was pricey, but we wanted a nice dinner during our trip. It was like a cafeteria. We were all crowded in to this one room even though there was another large room available. (They started to seat it AFTER our dinner rush) We had to wait at least 15 minutes to even be greeted by our server and another 35-40 minutes for our food. The apps were really good (calamari and bread with olive oil) our dinner wasn't bad but when your bill is over $215 for 2 people before tip you don't want average. We were sat in the middle which and could still see a little out the window it was indeed a nice view. We made reservations and requested a window or close to one and didn't get it but it was worth a shot. I think the most shocking is this was on a Wednesday evening so I wouldn't dare step foot here on a weekend. If you're in a group and don't care about talking to most of the people and want to impress your group with an expansive dinner this is the place. If you're looking for a romantic date night look elsewhere. It was chaos. My husband had to sit with me on the same side of the table because we literally couldn't talk to each other. There's not any kind of dress code so dress up if you want to but there's going to be people with flip flops, baseball hats, and t-shirts who probably get better service than you. Our tables weren't cleared, my husband got one refill of tea, and I was never asked if I wanted a second glass of wine. The only attention we got was when it was time to pay the bill. The hostess was the silver lining of the evening. She was nice and chit-chatted with us while we waited and walked to the table. Other than that I was not impressed.

What a dinner…

By Bill |

Excellent food, drink, ambience and service. Couple that with an old school vibe and an amazing view, and it makes for a great dinner. We loved it and would return.

Love this place on the 30th floor!

By SuzanneLG |

We have gone here 4 times now and will definitely return. We have had dinner here and happy hour, surprisingly happy hour gives you nice servings that fill you up just like a dinner would, ( at least for me). If your going there get there early so you can get a window seat, so as the lights go on at night , in this beautiful city you can feel the romance . Oh and later they have live piano music, now that’s even more romantic. FYI, if it’s a special occasion, like it was for us, they will give you a complimentary desert, what a class act! They also validate your parking for the parking gauge, for I think 2 and a half hours, ( you can check on the time allotted when you arrive).

Excellent Views, Nice Happy Hour

By LonestarSpartan |

We stopped in for Happy Hour and to see the great view that the Grill provides. We each had a glass of wine and enjoyed the service and the view. We got there early and the place quickly filled up. We got a table right at the window and were able to see for miles around. Great way to get a good perspective of downtown Portland and the river. We were even able to spot a Food Cart Pod just down the road that we visited a few times during our trip to Portland.

Not Family Friendly

By Kilee S |

Not a family-friendly environment. Went to enjoy a few appetizers during happy hour (at 4pm) with 3 adults and my infant daughter, was turned away and told we would only be allowed to sit in the dining room because we have a minor with us and happy hour is not served anywhere but the lounge. This is not listed anywhere on the website or the happy hour menu that minors are not allowed to sit in the lounge. Then on the way out we still had to pay $8 in for parking because it took us more than 10 minutes to go up to the restaurant, get turned away and then go back down to the car. It would have been REALLY nice to know children aren’t welcome during happy hour before driving 30 minutes there and then getting stuck in traffic on the way home with an 8 month old.

We had heard wave reviews about this place. My first impression was nice view of Mt Hood and city, but the ceiling is so low it kind of felt claustrophobic. The tables are very close together, lots of people, very expensive too! We had a nice dinner and they gave the birthday boy a chocolate cupcake with a candle. We just felt it was way too expensive for what we got. Maybe if you can get a table by the window it wouldn’t feel so closed in.

Sunday Happy Hour

By hawktraveler8 |

I went to find a great view of the city and enjoyed some happy hour drinks. I didn't want brunch but sat at the bar and had salmon cakes which were very tasty but small. Service was excellent and I got there shortly after if opened so I could take pictures of the city before others arrived!

Great views and cocktails in downtown Portland, OR

By Rhett L |

This place has been here a long time. The views are incredible and the bar/food selection is outstanding. Great ports, beers, cocktails, food for large/small parties and great places to hang out for happy hour or dinner (and they are open late). A great place for business dinners as well while in downtown Portland.

Fantastic views, service and food!

By Rodney A |

We heard about Portland City Grill from everyone we met while in Portland so I felt good about already having reservations. We were seated next to the window, worth waiting for if necessary, which had wonderful views of the river and city. Our waitress, Sky, was fabulous and I’d ask for her if you not only want great service but a very friendly personality that made our stay great. The food like everything else was excellent. I ordered the Elk which was cooked to perfection, it was served with a very tasty dirty rice and a peach compote. If you want to dine at a special place, give them a try!

Only For the View

By Mike E |

First, any venue that is 30 stories up is going to be a popular place. Second, on any given day, the venue can have a bad day. I think that was the case with our experience. They don't take reservations for window tables. You will wait for more than an hour for a window table. Don't bother, the views are good anywhere in the dining room. The upside is the view and the food is pretty good. I had elk. The presentation could have been better. The whole plate was dark brown, no color. The downside was the staff. We waited in the bar and our server had our reservation with a note for a window table in about 45 minutes to an hour. I think the way it was suppose to work is that our server was suppose to check on the status of our table after 45 minutes. She disappeared and after 1 hour and 15 minutes we flagged her down and asked about our table. Low and behold, it was ready. When I made the reservation I told them this was to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary. We sat for awhile before our waitress came to the table. She acknowledge that we were celebrating our anniversary. I only mention this because most places bring something special for desert. This was happening at tables all around us. We didn't get anything which is no big deal. There were tables that sat after us that got their food before us. After finishing our food, we waited almost 30 minutes to get our check. The waitress was nowhere to be found. Finally my wife got the manager. She tracked down the waitress, got our check and was very apologetic about the service. Apparently, the waitress got overwhelmed and didn't ask anyone else for help. I will say that the manager tried to make it good. We were very disappointed for our special evening. It's a great place for the view. I'm not sure about anything else. Also, keep in mind that it's very noisy perhaps because it was a Saturday night.

Lunch

By sskroll |

This place is located in a bank building and they were doing a floor by floor fire alarm check while we were there but no problem getting to the restaurant. You have to push a button for the restaurant at the elevator to get on certain elevators which will take you there. We caught the after lunch crowd so it wasn't too busy. Waiter was great and told us all about the specials for the day. The view of Portland from the restaurant is incredible. Food was good and prices not bad.

Underwhelmed, overpriced, and hangry-inducing slow service!

By randy m |

Underwhelmed, overcharged, disinterested server, and hangry-inducing slow service. I've been here about a dozen times in the past 10 years. I only really come for the views when family/friends visit, but this is probably my last. The experiences are a hit or miss, more misses tho-- and tonight was a real miss, which was disappointing because I was introducing Portland City Grill to my partner for the first time. Bare minimum attention by server, largely MIA ( we didn't even see him hustling other tables, rather he was just gone!) Never got a drink order, forgot the bread we specifically requested, menu changed and all the favorites were gone such as chicken marsala and pork chop. Finally got something edible on the table 45 minutes from seating, and then 20 minutes later was told the entrée I ordered was not available. The server couldn't have been less personable or disinterested in his random and scarce episodic appearances to the table. When he offered to customize a side dish made up of a selection of veggies we were led to believe this would be complementary offering or possibly a small charge since it was offered as an apology for waiting an hour to tell me my entrée was not available, so I agreed to a custom side veggie dish, and then the bill included a full charge of each veggie as if we ordered al la carte! I was so shocked by the cost of my one cocktail I actually went to the bartender from the dining area to double check...and although the bartender confirmed the price, just like Troy our server, Kristina the bartender was also unpersonable and disinterested, not even asking if I wanted anything, just answered my question and walked away. When I went by the host station to ask for a manager or get a card/number to call, there was no one to talk to. Ultimately our tummies were satisfied but service was so slow, experience was underwhelming, prices were inflated for the quality, servers were unfriendly, and now the two most popular items removed off the menu (porkchop and chicken marsala) - I don't anticipate returning. I'm a landry's member and this is the one place I've officially marked as a 'no go' from now on. Oh and it was my birthday, and although I did get a tiny slice of red velvet cake, the server never once said happy birthday...or anything personable... just transactional.

Not just the view

By flaq |

We came here on our last night in Portland. Great view of the city from the 30th floor. However the food is just as good as the view. My son had the clam chowder which was the soup of the day. Good soup but unnecessarily had bacon added. I had the apple/gorganzola salad which was good but needed a little more bleu cheese. My wife had the tuna nicoise for dinner. It was very nice, huge salad. I had the scallops which were cooked perfectly and the accompanying vegetables were interesting and good as well. My son had sushi and a salad for his main course, all good. Service is outstanding.

Top notch service in PDX

By Tasteoflife7 |

Came here for a coworker dinner celebrating the holidays a bit later. Our server, Blair, was amazing! We started with the burrata and calamari, then each had a steak with bone marrow butter melted on top table side and additional sides to share- it was so delicious! Also the cream brulee and the cocktails were a must!

Best view in Portland

By PJW |

Great place for a lively dinner. Great music and really good views of Portland. Calamari was the best of all appetisers and steak was cooked/seasoned perfectly.

Amazing View

By Lon P |

A top a hotel is a fun and happening bar and restaurant with a great view of Portland. We had a few drinks and apps and all were very good with great service. Recommend to watch sunset or finish your night here. We have never eaten dinner but it always looks buys.

Do not recommend for dinner. Reservation disregarded by over an hour, food very poor.

By Craig K |

5 people that included a 20 year old preventing using the bar area while waiting. Will not return again. Fundamental inability to manage reservations and half of the meals were very poor. Visited for my birthday with my family and sister from the East Coast. Reservation was for a window table for 6:30 more than a month in advance. Arrived at 6:25 and told to wait in what turned out to be an over air conditioned elevator lobby with very uncomfortable chairs until they called us. I asked about how long it would be and they said about 20 minutes. 40 minutes later still sitting there quite cold and uncomfortable I asked for an update. Response, still number 5 so maybe another 20 to 40 minutes. Manager called over. Asked for a free meal, he offered an appetizer. Needed to change to a non-window seat far from any view to be seated within an additional 20 minutes. Food was not enjoyable. Chicken severely over cooked to the point of barely being able to cut it. The one good item was the $14 five piece small shrimp. There were two reception/parties booked in the conference areas that seemed to spill over to the restaurant. It felt like they just put aside people's far in advace reservations to please the large groups. They ruined a birthday with my sister from out of town. The bar area was a happening place and could be fun for people to meetup.

Great HH

Happy Hour with a view. Go early to catch a seat near a window. Very reasonable prices. First day in Portland with our friends and you can see most of the city, even on a rainy day. 30th floor. Enjoy!

SPROUT-standing!!

By al s |

Everybody goes here for the views of the city and Mt. Hood from the 30th floor, which are admittedly spectacular. But what they don’t mention are the brussels sprouts. Oh my frickin’ god. A—-MAZE—-ING!! Even if you grew up hating brussels sprouts, you’ve GOTTA try them here. If you still don’t like them, then me and you can’t be friends…and you’re off my Xmas card list. Was in Portland for 4 days with friends. Our first time here. Went to PCG one night for dinner…fabulous prix fixe available….and liked it so much we came back for happy hour the next day. Their happy hour is a no-brainer. Get there when they open at 4pm for a window seat. They fill up fast. The food and drinks are fabulous, the service is top-notch and the view is…well…the view. Don’t miss this place if you’re in town. And for god’s sake, GET THOSE BRUSSELS SPROUTS. You’ll thank me later.

Great view, great food!

By Sarah_in_Texas |

The happy hour selection of brews and snacks is excellent. Don't miss the steak-and-fries! And the view of Portland is an extra bonus, frankly - I got lost in the food!

Our go-to favourite

By Teddy |

Great ambiance! Perfect Views! This is our favourite restaurant-PCG is a must stop! Sitting high on top of a skyscraper, this bar/grill boasts the best views in Portland. They have a nice selection of wines and craft beers to suit most pallets. It's a little pricey, but worth it for any special occasion.

Mixed Feelings

By JIMC |

Nice but VERY busy large restaurant. Friday night at 6 p.m. was obviously date night. Food was good but my short rib was very dry and I had to ask for additional gravy in order to get it down. My wife had the seafood alfredo and she said it was outstanding. I ordered a cup of mushroom soup before my entrée. It was just delicious but before I could even eat half of it, out came our entrees- not good.

Disappointing

By lulugirl |

We came here for dinner to celebrate my son’s college graduation. The evening started off great, we were given a table by the window, and the atmosphere is wonderful. Waiter came by and greeted us, asked if we were celebrating anything, and he chatted with my son about his graduation and future plans. Very nice. We said we’d like to order some cocktails and he said he’d be right back. 10 mins go by, and he finally came back. As he was taking our order, he knocked over a full glass of water, which broke a wine glass on the table. There was glass and water everywhere. They had to totally reset the table. 20 mins later our drinks finally come and our martinis are no longer cold. We made the best of it, and ordered dinner. They brought my husband the wrong food, but not a big deal and it was sorted out. My son enjoyed his meal, but the rest of the meals were mediocre. The waiter brought my son a piece of cake, and said “happy birthday!” This is after their conversation about being there for a graduation celebration. The check came, and we put out $200 in gift cards, along with our CC. He ran the cards and brought back the ticket with the balance of $35. In big numbers he wrote what the original bill was, as he must of been worried that we’d tip on the $35 instead of the original bill. Just seemed like sort of a weird thing to do. A bunch of minor incidents, that added up to our evening not being what I should of been.

Dinner out with family

By Avik C |

Love this place Love the ambiance Love the food Love the selection Easy parking and the parking is reimbursed They make it easy Food is really really tasty….even the sushi (this is not a sushi restaurant) is probably better than any sushi restaurant….the calamari appetizer is just scrumptious Entree’s are really good and priced right with quantity enough to fill u up For the ambiance and quality of food, the price tags is reasonable Highly recommend if u r in Portland.

Unbeatable Views

By InjaNinja |

My son and I stopped as part of a road trip, grateful to be squeezed in without a reservation. The menu was excellent, and both of us enjoyed our food. Watching the sun set over such a landmark city is a remarkable experience. Service was absolutely top notch!

The Top of the Town Restaurant

By Dick L |

The lines were long, reservations obviously needed but still there was a wait. New Year's Eve, of course. After a short wait we were seated in the busy, busy place. After wine was ordered (beer for me) we four chose the special meal of the night. My wife and I both chose the 16 oz. steak, medium rare, after a salad course (the beet salad for me, the Caesar salad for her). Our friends had the filet with lobster. Even though this was the busiest night of the season the service was excellent, the food was well prepared and delicious.

Go.....

This is a super cool view spot with a fun bar scene and great food. Old and clunky feel high in the sky. The piano bar is lively and notable.

Great food and atmosphere

By Michael V |

The food was great and the service was excellent. The view was spectacular and definitely made the experience so much better. I would definitely recommend making a reservation. The price wasn't bad either

Great view of Portland

By Gary R |

We were there for happy hour. The food was OK not great for the price. What you are buying is the view.

ON HIGH IN PORTLAND

By TexasOne H |

The food and service is okay... the food is over-priced. However, the view of Mt. Hood/Mt. Helens if well worth it .... on a clear day.

Lovely experience

By Joan S |

The food was great, service was impeccable, ambiance was comfortable, and the view was to die for. What a treat. Every dish brought to our table was over-the-top tasty. The servers were pleasant and prompt. Not one complaint -- from appetizer to dessert. I'd definitely go here again when in Portland!! (And the piano music in the bar before our meal was lovely!)

Girls Trip

By Heather1660 |

Awesome amazing view cocktails and happy hour .. unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to try their food .. loved the pianist in the lounge playing everything from old fashioned to new hits .. the sweeping views of the city and tasty beverage options .. a must do I think .

Dinner

By philiplk |

Came here after getting the recommendation from my tour guide. It is located on the 30th floor in th building opposite my hotel so location is convenient. I ordered the filet steak medium rare and it was cooked well, came with asparagus and mashed potato. However there was no sauce provided. Service was acceptable. Views from the restaurant were great and I could get a bird eyes view of the city

Excellent view

By Mumzie4two |

Delicious dinner and great wine selection. The views are spectacular. Really enjoyed this restaurant.

Not recommended. Cook had a terrible night and didn't care to fix it.

By Idaho Native |

Really not good! I got the rack of Lamb and ordered it medium rare plus. On small rack was done nicely and the other was raw it had on been seared. They said they would give me a dessert. The rack of Lamb was 50+ dollars the dessert 10. No offer to cook another one even though for that price there is only 2 small racks. The steak my wife had was very good but slightly overcooked. Salads were excellent and the pork belly was just there. Overall it wasn't as good as a family diner but close to 5x the price.

The food rivals the view

By LindaPixChick |

You have the best of both worlds here at the PCG. The view is amazing and the food is incredibly prepared. And the craft cocktails are exquisitely created. I don't have a single improvement I'd make for this place! This is a perfect place for a special occasion.

Fine Dining at Great Heights!

By Shane M |

I was recently out to dinner with my wife and her parents for our third anniversary. It was a cold and damp Portland night but you would never have knowns it up there on the 30th floor at the Portland City Grill! Especially with all the warmth we were given from our server Erin. With a breathtaking view of the beautiful lights of downtown Portland it’s hard to find a better ambiance anywhere else. Our server Erin was also one of those bright lights! Glowing with positivity she shown in every stage of our wonderful dinner. There’s not to many things that are better than eating a filet and drinking a glass of Willamette Pinot Noir! Thanks Erin and the rest of the staff at Portland City Grill for one of the best dining experiences I’ve had!

Gorgeous ambiance and view but it goes downhill from there

By Mindy R |

We brought some clients to Portland City Grill who were in town from Malaysia and while the ambience and view is what we have always experienced at the Portland City Grill that was the only thing that resembled the way it used to be. The food quality has gone downhill while the prices have gone sky high. We understand that the restaurants are experiencing their cost increasing as well but their price hikes per meal are not inline with what we see at the other restaurants around Portland including fine dining restaurants. $53 for four pan seared scallops? $65 for a New York steak with two pieces of asparagus and one tiny clump of potatoes. Our bill was $250 for four people with no appetizers and no adult beverages (or any beverages for that matter we stuck with water.) The short ribs were one of our favorite in the past however this time it was very dry and bland and our guest who ordered the $65 New York steak did not receive a steak that was cooked anywhere in the ballpark of what he ordered. We did not want to complain and have them re-cook anything as we did not have time to wait for the change. I am just hoping that management does read these reviews and that they take it to heart. Sadly they will not likely lower their outrageous prices so we will skip the view and take our clients to other restaurants around Portland that serve amazing food.

Great food and view of Portland

By RenoTraveler03 |

We have a lovely Valentine's Day dinner here, and the view or Portland was phenomenal. Food was excellent also, but a little on the pricey side; the salmon was excellent. Service was very attentive and on point.

Nice meal with beautiful views

By InSearchofQ |

This is a really nice restaurant with amazing views of the city. I think that you are paying for the view in part. We visited on a Saturday night, so it was really busy, and the services was pretty slow. One thing I noted was the staff with a tablet going around and checking the status of clients and what tables were ready to "flip". I thought that was disconcerting and we felt rushed while we were eating.

4 o’clock Happy Hour

By JoAnn P |

This 30th floor restaurant is famous for its Happy Hour...menu includes lovely small plates and discounted drinks. The view is priceless.

A View not much else

By foxak |

We were steered to the Portland City Grille for the service and the view; they are both worth the effort. Be advised the food is mediocre at the best. Service was really personal and attentive; the food just a notch above acceptable. If I was not with friends I may have sent my food back to the kitchen. Go to the bar; have some small plates and drinks and enjoy the view without the mortgage payment cost of a full blown dinner.

Another Great Night High on the town

By PlainsHiker |

Better than expected. Escargot with mushrooms were over the top and a fantastic hors d'oeuvre. We had a Salmon and a Filet Mignon each came with asparagus and mash potatoes. We also ordered Brussels Sprouts, which we love, but did not need. They were fanstatic a bit crisp with a hint of honey. After a drink, the Smoke Bourbon is special, we ordered desert - which we could hardly eat. But everything we so good we wanted to try our favorites. The Salmon was excellent and the rare Filet can melt in your mouth.

Perfect Lunch

By falish |

We enjoyed a table with a view and very good food. We considered it an event for our first day in the city. Would definitely go back.

Happy Hour

By julieann243218 |

I still think this place has both the best views and the best happy hour downtown. The food is always amazing, very consistent. You can have a hearty meal not bar food. The views while spectacular on a clear day can be iffy if it is overcast or raining.

Happy hour is great

By PortlandOregon2012 |

If you are patient and wait for someone to leave a table with a window view, it's worth it. Happy hour is not impressive for food but drinks are alright. The view is so worth it.

Fantastic meal and service

By thehuntclub877 |

Went to the city grill tonight and the food was really delicious. Great service as well. View is the bonus.

Visited not too long ago and had a great time. Came back to the bar and Sydney did a very nice job. The food was great and so was the live music.

Exceptional

By Carrie1999 |

One of the best places I’ve dined at. I have the lamb and it was perfect also had the bleu cheese salad which was awesome! Will definitely come back, make reservations.

Not worth it - bad service and just ok food

By Justbrocky |

First time. Won't be back. Had reservation for 7:30 pm and made it weeks ago. Asked on reservation for window seat for dinner. Got there and semi-bitchy hostess said they didn't have a window seat and it would be about 30 min. We waited at bar area and found a high top to sit at. Once we finally got sat the service wasn't any better. Female server was not genuine or good. She also disappeared many times. Food. Meh. Great views. Maybe a good place for drinks and views. Other than that there are much better places to eat in pdx

A great meal with a view of Portland

By ivananthony |

The Portland City Grill is a true four star restaurant. The service and food are impeccable. This is truly is a must do in the city of Portland.

Amazing views

By Michael_M |

This is a great place for special occasions....or appetizers. : ) Expect higher prices...but worth it. You can't beat the views of the city at night. We parked in the garage in the buidling.

Good ambiance, everything else was just OK

By AlexisRF |

I would call this place more of a touristy restaurant more than anything else. If you are new to the area or want to impress clients or a date this might be the place to go. The views are great. The food and service is just ok. The young male host needs to be retrained. This is not apple bees or Friday's, he needs some polishing or move him somewhere where he is not the one that leaves the first impression to guests. Our server was new (she told us), she was ok. The prices are high so I expect more. Im glad I tried it, glad I wasnt paying but Im not going to be a return customer. My parents and the other older people in our group liked it... so there you go!

Stunning

By Miranda H |

The view is absolutely amazing!! They had a gentleman playing piano that certainly added to the ambiance. The steak was absolutely perfect, calamari was impressive, and the service was outstanding.

Overrated, overpriced.

By Cesar Pablo |

I was here for lunch, service was really good but that's pretty much it. Food was okay, definitely overpriced for what you get, I got the lunch combo with a dip sandwich and a beet salad, they are good but not for the price. Creme brulee was great! I got a bottle of wine, "complicated" priced for $50. Again, not horrible but expensive. The main reason I give this restaurant only 2 stars is because everything seems to be dirty, carpet stinks!!! and it's all stain. The guys definitely should get uniforms provided so they don't have to wear their ripped pants and shirts with a belt literally falling apart. I don't know, I thought this place will be classy. View it's amazing, it totally worth coming and having a drink.

Brunch at the Bar

By Mary Lou |

PCG hosts a famous Brunch Buffet but a lesser known treat is sitting at a comfortable bar booth to enjoy brunch and a favorite cocktail. I love the Spring rolls and the fries are crisp. But, above all I love the Ahi tuna. I have ordered it on each of my visits. Each time it has been absolutely delectable. Though my friends enjoy their beer choices and the gorgeous Lavender Cosmo is fabulous, I treat myself to their Woodford Reserve manhattan. The view, the service, the food, the price - a real Portland treasure.

A Great Spot To Celebrate A Special Occasion At Least Once

By Lou L |

My wife, daughter, son-in-law and I ate here to celebrate my wedding anniversary, shortly after moving to town. Enjoying a well prepared meal and drinks and enjoying such a spectacular view; made for a very memorable experience.

Recently taken over by Landry's. The greeters look tired and bored.

By Judy M |

We have lots of RUI gifts cards not used and read the news from Oregonian that RUI filed bankruptcy and was taken overed by Landry's recently. We confirmed with the PCG that they still honor RUI Gift Card. We were there around 5 pm. The bar area was packed with tourists and locals. Their toilets are by the greeting area it smelled kind of bad. The greeting ladies in front of bar were not greeting people they just let people go inside the bar area looking for the seat. All of them look bored and tired. Due to no seat in the bar for happy hour we ended up with seating dinner. The girl leading us to the table did not have any smile and did not talk to us and no greeting at all. After sat down she passed the menu to men (my husband) first without knowing the manner to respect woman. She needs to be trained how to interact the customers. We ordered three appetizers to share as entries are extremely expensive. $55 to $112. Foods are OK but no superb. You have to consider you pay one third just for the view. Deluxe Sushi plate is good in my opinion. Italian soup is too sweet. Peanut Sauce for Spring Roll is not quite authentic.

Greatest view

By billie1948 |

This great place is more than great it’s the greatest. Staff are very helpful, make major attempts to seat you where you would like and most important the food is more than awesome.

Fab food

By Ginx |

Great food and wonderful views. Pricey. Vegan food is limited to one starter and one salad, which is disappointingly surprising in Portland.

Delicious dinner with a beautiful view

By cmabene |

Visiting Oregon on vacation and spent the first night in Portland. Portland City Grill was recommended to us and it was wonderful. The views are beautiful and the staff was outstanding. My husband had the salmon blackened and I had the braised beef short ribs. We split the cheesecake for dessert. The food was delicious! Great start to our vacation. Would highly recommend the Portland City Grill.

Lovely view of the city

By annie s |

We are visiting Portland from the UK, our friend who lives here said we should try to come here of only for a cocktail and the view. This place can apparently get quite busy, but we chanced a table in the bar area during happy hour. (16:00-19:00). We just had a drink and a small plate/ snack from the happy hour menu and enjoyed the alternative view of the city skyline. The food that was being served around us looked delicious! I was quite jealous say there with my ranch waffle fries. Would recommend coming here during happy hour as it is very slightly cheaper but it's the view that sells is most.

Large servings well prepared of Northwest specialties

By Jame C |

Three local hosts entertained four visiting conference attendees at this facility. The restaurant is located atop a 30 story building with underground parking and sleek and fast elevators. You enter a darkened room with just enough lighting to view the menu and navigate the maze of tables. Great views in any direction and Mt Hood is prominent on clear days. Our server was knowledgeable, efficient and caring. Plate sharing is allowed and given the serving size a good idea. Our Halibut grilled on a bed of roasted potatoes with peppers included was crusted then moist and tender inside. Others feasted on the grilled salmon, chicken Marsala, root vegetables and steak (house specialty). If in Portland again this is a must stop.

Good Steak but Bad Service

By Greg F |

Reserved a table for my wife's birthday and they literally tried to give us the worst table in the house, right by the Kitchen with all the help constantly running by. We asked for a different table and the hosted snapped at us "OKAY FINE". Complained to the main hostess who didn't understand our issue so we asked for a manager. She got us seated right away, doing what a manager is supposed to do problem solve. They gave us a free appetizer to compensate the staff's attitude. The waiter couldn't have been nicer when we ordered. Got our food and the waiter disappeared for a bit, came back and asked if everything is okay. But they forgot to bring my wife her salad before the main course. He got a little huffy and said he'll go get it well now its too late and she didn't want it. So bottom line the view is unbelievable but staff is beyond rude (the hostess actually stared my wife down as we left) and the service is lousy. Go to the bar for the view then go to another steak house!

Great view of Portland but food is not exceptional

By Chiili |

Our waiter was nice but we waited a long time get our drinks and even longer to get our food. The crab cakes were very good. The Caesar salad was fair. The filet was not the best. However the baked potato and green beans were excellent. I never mind paying over $ 400 for a dinner for three but I do not expect average food at that price.

Beautiful view and best luxury dining intown !

By Daniel Milan |

For fine dining PCG is my favorite in Portland when it comes to value for the amount of food and quality of food you get this place has everyone beat. I definitely recommend for any special occasion.

nice place for views

Great views of the city, Mount Hood and Mount Saint Helens. Food was well prepared and the wine list was perfect, however service too slow.

Outstanding Over The Top Happy Hour...Great Food...Great Wines...Great Service...Great View...Great Prices!!!

By Alan Z |

This be the place to go for Happy Hour if you are visiting Portland. The Happy Hour is from 4 pm- 7 pm and then 9 pm to close. We wanted to see the sunset, so we went early. My suggestion. We arrived at 4:10 pm. All the window tables were full, so we waited another 10-12 minutes before a group left and then sat in that spot very quickly. This place fills up quickly. To get a great table and view, I would arrive 15-20 minutes earlier. Our server was outstanding. Our views as looking at my photos submitted were outstanding. The food was outstanding. When the server heard it was my wife's birthday, at the end she arrived with a chocolate molten lava cake. We shared a Caesar Salad. To be frank, it was one of the best I have had anywhere, other than getting the salad made to order in front of you. The we both had the Grilled New York Steak Sandwich Medium Rare. Wow!!! Probably a 5-6 ounce grilled steak, tender, juicy, with a Blue-Cheese Horseradish Sauce and Red Wine Fig Sauce over a thick slice of Parmesan Toast served with thinly cut crispy onion rings. 5-Star All The Way for $11.95. Piano music was playing in the background starting around 5 pm. The only requirement for the Happy Hour prices is you need to be over 21 years of age and order an adult beverage. Sorry tea and coffee drinkers.

Great view, great food

By Sandi R |

Met up with a friend in Portland - they suggested we splurge on dinner and asked me to pick something. We had a lovely time without breaking the caloric bank too badly. Many delicious fish and seafood entrees and interesting salads. Good bread and a tasty side of sauteed mushrooms. I had a nice Pinot Gris by the glass. Amazing views, attentive service. A little noisy but so long as we spoke up we had no trouble hearing each other. Great evening!

Great experience both for the food and the view

By SanDiego_MK |

Almost the entire experience was outstanding. The only difficulty was in finding the access to the restaurant (not clear from street signage)! Otherwise, we were greeted, made to feel welcome, and seated at a booth. Even though we reserved for an early dinner (5pm) all of the window seats were already taken! Everything we ordered was tasty and the portions were generous: Scallop Crudo, Arugula & Berry Salad, Ahi Poke Stack, Yellowfin Tuna Nicoise.

Be prepared to wait a very long time.

A waitress doing her best under difficult circumstances and a heartfelt apology from the on-duty manager do not make up for our waiting from our 8:00 reservation until after 10:00 to be served our entrees. By that time, the kids at our table were well past their bedtimes and the adults on East Coast time were struggling to stay awake. What was intended to be a special Christmas Eve dinner out was ruined, and we ended up taking all the desserts and some of entrees home. The on-duty staff were as much victims as we were of the failure of management at more senior levels to adequately plan and staff for the holiday.

50 min to get a drink…..

By Nathan B |

It took 50 minutes to get a glass of wine. On a Sunday at 6pm. 1st time there, with family. After 20 min, our oysters arrived (they were not good, too small and had been placed upside down so the brine spilled out of most of them) and I was told they didn’t have the white wine I ordered. I was also told they were out of my entree, the branzino. So we ate two appetizers( oysters and bone marrow) before my first drink finally arrived. And guess what? Server said they had found the original wine (a Sancerre) after all. 50 minutes to get a single drink. Bad oysters. Crowded. 6 feet clearance in the parking garage. Small menu that didn’t have featured entrees even on a weekend. Generally uninspired drinks menu. You are paying steep prices bc the place is located on the top floor of a bank tower. You sure aren’t paying for service.

Beautiful Venue

The view is spectacular. The ambiance is classy. The Chilean Sea Bass and Lobster Risotto were delicious. This place is great for special occasions.

Best birthday meal and evening ever

By Phil M |

A wonderful experience, the staff could not have been greater and more pleasant and attentive and knowledgeable. Jon, the manager made a point to come over and they lose himself and say hello, which made it even more enjoyable the view was fantastic. But best of all the food was outstanding. Our meal was truly delicious. One of the best meals we had in that’s not OK Portland, Oregon altogether

Happy Hour & View

By FoodLovingDuo |

So we visited there for late lunch on Sunday, and it happened to be a happy hour time (yay!). There were variety of foods to choose from. We ordered Seared Steelhead & Snow Crab and Cajun Jambalaya. They are so delicious. The steelhead and the snow crab were nicely moist, and the accompanying sauce really makes them even more tasty. The jambalaya came with flavorfully spiced blackened shrimps over the nicely cooked jambalaya rice. My husband loved the jambalaya so much and ordered for the 3rd. We waited for a minute on another seat till the window seats open to see the view. Once we got the window side, we could browse beautiful Portland scenery. It was quite busy around 3:00pm but it slowed down around 4:30pm and several window side seats opened. Their happy hour starts 12:00pm and lasts till closing on Sunday. Nice view & tasty foods, and happy hour. We had a great time here. Definitely would love to come back here again.

Nice first visit with great views. Our server Erin was attentive and thoughtful, good appetizers and entrees. Great cocktails too

It's More Than That View

By Mike4TraveI |

We were fortunate to get a reservation last minute. Samantha our server was very knowledgable about the menu and attentive without being overly so. We had a romantic booth which offered perhaps one of the better views of Portland. My cioppino was prepared with halibut, calamari, shrimp, scallops & Dungeness crab on top with toast with goat cheese. It was a good one. My wife had short ribs that were marinated with sweet ginger and slow cooked with house mashed potatoes and curry carrot purée. It was a good choice on her part.

Girls Night Out

By Charlie H |

My girlfriends and I had such a great time at Portland City Grill. The 30th‑floor views were incredible, and the vibe was warm and classy without feeling stuffy. We tried a bunch of dishes, but the standout for all of us was the Sunset Beets salad—so fresh, beautifully done with truffle goat cheese and beet‑leaf pesto, and honestly one of the best salads I’ve had in a long time. The seafood and sushi were delicious too, and the staff made the whole experience feel easy and fun. We’ll definitely be back!

Great skyscraper window views of Portland

By Carl B |

We went for the Sunday buffet brunch. Some items are ready and others you order from the kitchen or the omelet station. Consider waiting for a window table as that is definitely one of the reasons to dine here. One of the better Sunday brunch options in Portland.

spectacular view

By dholmes2019 |

The Portland City Grill has spectacular views and the food to match. Views across the city, the river and all the way to Mount Hood in the day light and as evening fell to darkness the romance of city lights. The food was fabulous and service was terrific. We ate at the City Grill 3 times over a 7 day visit and had halibut, chicken, steaks, salads and cocktails all prepared to perfection. I must say that everywhere we ate in Portland had amazing food but when you add the amazing views and decor of the City Grill, it was hands down the winner.

Late night eats with a view!!

By Casaundra A |

Friend and I in town for the weekend - very late and everything was closed or closing up. Google stated this was the nearest place for us to grab something to eat. Drinks were awesome. Service was ok. Kale salad and sushi was delicious however the calamari didn't taste good at all - was replaced but by the time new item arrived I was full. Very romantic with view of portland in all directions - beautiful. Will come back when visiting. Be sure you get in the right elevator if you park in the garage (hard to locate but once we found the garage we knew we were in the right place)

Amazing Food But No Social Distancing

By Cassie L |

If you can get a window seat, it's the best view for dinner in the city. Food was great and the portions are generous. We had calamari, salmon, and jambalaya. All were 5 star worthy! The only negative part of the experience was that the restaurant was so crowded and doesn't consistently enforce mask policies with guests. We saw folks in shared elevators without masks and several walked up to our table to look out the window without a mask. You probably should avoid this restaurant for a while if you're Covid-19 conscious/immunocompromised.

The place to go in Portland

By virginia h |

This restaurant is AMAZING! Our waiter Izzy was the best and made a point of talking to us and making us laugh. He was warm and genuine and very funny. He made our experience along with the amazing food. We were very upset with Portland City and all the homeless and garbage but dinner in the Portland Grill made up for a disappointing day. It was superb! The location the food and the service were impeccable with the best berry salad I have ever had!

Paying for a View or for Great Food?

By Dave K |

We booked a table several weeks ahead of our 25th wedding anniversary, noting on the Open Table app that this was a special occasion. Upon arriving at the restaurant, it was clear that the staff had zero knowledge of our special occasion. Indeed, no one inquired as to the reason for our visit during the evening. I contrast this with a visit to El Gaucho for our 20th anniversary, similarly booked through Open Table, and we were greeted with roses and a greeting card at our table. The menu was limited owing to COVID-19, presumably, but the prices were not. We ordered Calamari from the extremely limited appetizer menu - deep fried mush, if I am being honest. Not fresh at all. Then came our main course. No Filet Mignon available, but was assured by the waiter that the sirloin was of similar quality. Quality of steak was 'OK', but most certainly did not match the price point. Waiter was busy with multiple tables and for the price point I expected a little more personal attention. The view was great, the service OK, the food on the poor to average scale. There are WAY better places in Portland to eat steak at a similar price with much better service and better quality food. Admittedly, this place has the view, and if that's what you want to pay for, go for it. As for us, we like great food and great service, and this restaurant missed on both of those points.

Great place to enjoy view and happy hour menu.

By Tania |

We always pick this place to enjoy happy hour and get mesmerized by the Skyline view of Portland. Strongly recommend as well to go with friends!

Wonderful!

I've been here a couple times this month and each time was a great experience, Greatest view in Portland, excellent food, great service, Look forward to going back again!

A memorable Thanksgiving

By applem830 |

My family and I came here for Thanksgiving lunch and we were all thoroughly impressed. Our server was a world-class professional who took care of our three generations without missing a beat, even on such a busy day. Lesser servers would have been overwhelmed by the chaos! The food and views were heavenly. My only gripe was the turkey, it was just okay. Not bad, but it seemed mediocre compared to the other food, which was exquisite (bread, salad, veg, pie).

Great brunch

By Falleur |

All the usual good brunch items, including king crab and sushi. The menu includes items to order, eggs Benedict, French toast and an excellent beet salad.

The food is great

By vespadue |

Delicious food, stunning views of the city. Try to get a window seat. Service was s little slow but we were there on a holiday.

Come for the bar not dinner

By DAVID G |

There is only one reason to come here and that is for the view. So it makes a lot more sense to come here for the bar and eat somewhere good for dinner. The restaurant is very mediocre-service is slow and spotty, food prep and quality is not good-we had to send a steak back and it is reidiculously overpriced.

Not as good as expected

By Andrea-Scarlett586 |

Despite reservation we had to wait almost 1.5 hours. It was Father's Day, which we didn't know. The staff was striving but everything was not well organized. We had wedding anniversary and this also mentioned several times, but it was not received, no attention. The service was nice, there was only a limited menu. The main course took a long time and was no longer warm. Only my salmon was good. For dessert it was just cake. Because of the long wait, the appetizers were not charged. Overall, however, a disappointment.

Bamboozled

By ginawired |

You know those jelly beans, called Bamboozled, that have a mystery flavor? Well this is the dining version. Upon entering the 30th floor the decor and view were impressive. We immediately surprised by how empty it was for noon on a Wednesday but were initially pleased that we would get a window seat. The specials flyer immediately caught my attention with duck fat fries, but they were “no longer on the menu” (Bamboozle #1). Ordered the “grilled trout on wilted spinach the browned butter and bacon vinaigrette”. Based on the description, you are probably thinking it would have a savory flavor, but no, bamboozle #2. This dish was so sweet it was not edible (I tried adding lemon, but it didn’t help). The waitress let me know that it had hazelnuts in it, but not that they were candied. The menu and waitress also didn’t mention that the bacon was candied. The combination of sugar coated hazelnuts and sugar coated bacon was horrible. Plus, the dish contained another surprise, goat cheese! Bamboozle #3. Glad I’m not allergic to dairy as many are, plus you have to be really really good to pull off fish and cheese and sadly the chef here is not. The only redeeming feature was the $5 glass of wine and the view.

Perfect evening

By LANIKINSMT |

We arrived with an 8 o’clock reservation and opted to wait 45 minutes for a window table. So we hung out at the bar with the fun servers, and in no time we were seated at our table with most spectacular view of the city. Our server (Grey) was super friendly and added to our wonderful evening. Dinner was amazing!

Great views. So so service. Good food.

By Ken V |

Seems everyone goes to Portland City Grill for the views. Place was again packed. We had a reservation and got in early so we scored a window table. The menu is nice and the food was good. Service is almost sterile. Would be good if management could train the servers to be more personable (and yet professional).

Top of the world with top of the world food.

By Joseph P |

Asked for and got a window table with views of the city and Mt St Helens. The staff pointed out the sights while we were anticipating our dinner. Get the seared Scallops over red cabbage and sweet potato mash or the seared Halibut. Both delicious. Chocolate raspberry torte very good.

Great bartenders!

By Jess |

Was visiting from Minnesota and stopped for happy hour. The bartenders were friendly and helpful. The happy hour food was fantastic! Had the Thai noodles and spring rolls and the steelhead crab & trout. It’s on the 30th floor so the view was amazing ‘

Simply amazing

By Mike c |

We cannot express how exceptional our experience was at Portland City Grill. We chose to celebrate our wedding with an intimate ceremony and dinner shared with a few close friends. With no prior planning, we surprised the restaurant with our celebration, and the staff went above and beyond to make the evening truly unforgettable. They graciously arranged a private room for our ceremony, surprised us with champagne at our table, and concluded the night with a heartfelt send-off—complete with applause and warm congratulations from the staff. In today’s world, this level of thoughtful, genuine customer service is rare, and it made our special day even more meaningful. Portland City Grill has undoubtedly become our new favorite restaurant, and we look forward to returning often.

The best wedding reception EVER!

By CRISTINA R |

We had our wedding reception in the private dining area at Portland City Grill Leap Day, 2020. We were SO IMPRESSED with the quality and value that we found in hosting at this fine dining establishment. The service that Kelly provided us during our over a year-long planning crusade was beyond amazing and helpful and stress-free. The food was THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD AT A WEDDING. The selection was AMAZING. The bartender FABULOUS. And OMG, the ambiance! The whole night could not have been more perfect. Thank you so much Kelly and PCG, for making our wedding so memorable and so exquisite.
