Sushilicious!

By misopiso88 |

We were in Portland for one night and decided to grab some sushi for dinner at Bamboo Sushi. Got there about one hour before they closed but food was fast and delicious. Service was friendly too. Beautiful interior so makes a great date night option!

Excellent

By Gene R |

Food and service was fantastic. Some of the best sashimi I have had in along time. Atmosphere was nice and our host very friendly and knowledgeable. Free edamame with your meal which was a nice addition while we waited for our meal. Will definitely tell all my friends about this place.

Very good food

By Elizabeth H |

Went for dinner with my daughter. On a Thursday, it was packed with a long wait. We sat at the bar to avoid the long wait. We ordered 2 dishes off the menu. Lucky 13 & Usuzukuri. Both delicious! Then we decided to let the chef create some dishes for us. We were not disappointed. All great dishes! Enjoyed all the food! Recommend

Great service, selection and atmosphere!

By PhfamWA |

Even if you do not love sushi, they have a lot of other options. Our whole group did get sushi - lots of selection of specialty rolls as well as the standards. Presentation was great, service was well paced, fun drink selection. Only con was that it was very dark and we needed our phones to read the menu, but otherwise would definitely return. There are 2 other Bamboo Sushi's in Portland, but this one was the closest to our final destination. Street parking was fairly easy.

Sustainable Sushi in a Fun Atmosphere!

By Karly C |

We loved it here - the atmosphere is really fun (they said they decorated each restaurant differently, and this one is decorated like a Japanese alleyway from what a remember). Our drinks and sushi were delicious, and we appreciated that they do everything in as sustainable a way as possible. Great visit!

Amazing flavour

By DonCesar |

Really good and intense flavors on the rolls, I tried the day specials and some entree and each had very good taste and intense flavors, the d citation was also worth noticing a little like a Japanese alley.

Sustainable sushi and more

By TerisTravels2 |

Best sushi in town. Always sustainable, if not pronouncable. :) Ask your server for recommendations. I have found that they are spot on. Pricey but worth it.

Nothing special

By traveljean11 |

After all the hype I had such high expectations. We arrived early-ish and sat outside. Even though there wasn't a lineup of other guests the waitress was really after us to order. We ordered and explained that we might order more....depends on how big the portions are. She came back asking about orders before the 1st round had arrived. Guess she's just doing her job to get the tables to turn over. As for the food. Really not special. And expensive. The seafood sunomo was a pathetic example of what is usually a loving blend of ingredients. Here it is literally just sliced cucumbers unless you go for the "seafood upcharge". And then you get 4 little pieces of seafood. House on Fire was underwhelming. Nigiri sushis were pretty standard. If knowing the pedigree of each piece of fish is really important to you then this might be worth the hype. Otherwise, it's not special in any way.

Excellent Sushi and a Nice Treat

By Phil C. |

A business colleague took me here for dinner yesterday and it was a fantastic choice. We only had a 10 minute wait, but larger groups behind us had to wait an hour simply due to timing. The foot was thoughtful, inspired, complex and excellent quality. I'd definitely go again!

Friendly Japanese Restaurant with excellent sushi

By P7830SCjamesw |

Sat at the sushi bar at this Japanese restaurant restaurant on NE Alberta Street in Portland. I found it to be friendly, even cozy. I enjoyed some recommended sake as well as nigiri sushi and a crispy small potato appetizer. My enjoyment was enhanced by the young sushi chef from Pittsburgh, PA. Their menu went way beyond the basics but I'm OG sushi and keep it simple. Apparently there are five Bamboos in Portland and others across the country.

Creative and delicious

By Brian J |

Visited for a Father's Day date night and could not have been more impressed by our meal. I went with the Omakase selection (basically chef's choice sushi until you're stuffed) to hopefully discover some new sushi choices I wouldn't have ordered myself. This went incredibly well, although I wasn't challenged as much as I thought might happen, all the selections were interesting and ranged from good to fantastic. My wife and I split a roll from the menu and chicken from the kitchen. She's not as big a sushi fan as I am but she enjoyed hers well enough to order a 2nd roll which never happens. Service was fantastic, attentive without being pushy. I do suggest a reservation for weekend evenings. We were seated right away, whereas those without a reservation looked to wait up to 20 minutes.

Not enough stars!

By Andrew Hughs |

We love all the Bamboo Sushi locations, however, the one on Alberta is by far our favorite! The staff is super friendly! They are very service and customer happiness oriented. We also love that they only use sustainable product. Great sake selection. If you’ve never tried sake, ask Mel for a crash course!

Sake Galore

By Cosmos Mariner |

Quite the sake selection with good organization of the options under descriptive headings. Extensive menu with many options and creative rolls. Vegetarian at the table was very happy. Indeed everyone was happy except for the nigiri eater. A number of salmon selections and some salmon toro. The salmon flight was interesting in concept but flavor on the palate was flat except for the toro. Seafood nigiri and sashimi selections were narrow for the Northwest - They would only get 2 stars on the nigiri and sashimi. I would skip the nigiri and sashimi if I went again. On the happy hour the nigiri was disappointingly bite sized except for the shrimp. Service a tad slow. Had a few draft beers including Sapporo.

Very nice!

Beautiful place very "cheers" style setting, quiet, comfortable, relaxing! Service was great, food was very good and masterfully prepared, prices were reasonable!

Great Sushi Along Albert Street

By aussiegozoom |

I had read positive reviews for Bamboo Sushi closer to Downtown Portland, but we weren't able to make it over to that particular location. Since we were craving sushi, we were so glad to find yet another Bamboo Sushi location just blocks from our AirBnb! We popped in without a reservation. After a reasonable wait, we were seated and treated to a yummy dinner of fresh and delicious plates. We would definitely return for another delicious meal.

Impressed

By PDXPortland |

We have been wanting to try Bamboo Sushi for sometime and were not disappointed. I had some of the freshest fish I have had at a sushi restaurant in Portland for a long time. The texture and color with the subtlest of flavors really enhanced the Chirashi bowl. Prices reflect the quality. One very positive point is that the whole menu is practically gluten-free which allowed one of our party so much choice. The ambiance was great and service friendly and professional. Recommended and we will return!

Nothing special!

By Johanna A |

I had a California roll, some nigiri sushi and two pieces of tuna sashimi. The sashimi was very tasteful, but the rest was nothing special. I had much better BBQ eel nigiri in several other sushi places, and also the rolls weren't that tasty. It's nice that you get Edamame beans for free as a starter, but otherwise the value for money is not good in my estimation. The interior design is nice and the cocktails which other guests drank looked good. So if you want to spend an evening with friends in a nice atmosphere, it's a good location, but not if you want to enjoy good sushi.

Brilliant service & great food

By CAM |

We chanced upon this restaurant after being told at the nearby Bye & Bye that we couldn’t dine there with minors after 8pm. Their loss. We weren’t disappointed! My family of five of dined on the vegan options - cucumber & avocado rolls, complimentary edamame, cauliflower, vegetable tempura, silken tofu etc. It was all really delicious and served by a very patient and extremely helpful waiter. There was a good vibe in the restaurant and it was very busy, which is testimony to how good the food and service is. A great evening in Portland.

Extra special treatment for all

By Gord W |

We came in for a quick dinner, my wife and I. We were seated quickly, hosted professionally, and served faster than expected. The edamame came without being ordered, which was a wonderful start. The Sushi was delicious. We ordered simple rolls and were very pleased.

Exceptional service and food!

Chef and waitress provided friendly and informative service on the food options and preparations. Fresh sushi and unique preparation for incredible taste! Good location to visit while in Portland!

Best Sushi I've had in Years

By troadtripgal |

I was advised to come here by a client who raved about it! There are several locations and when I went to open table to book, they were all completely sold out but for the Alberta location (which was fine, as parking is easier anyway!!) The location was small and somewhat cramped (and busy!) But once we started eating, we were in heaven and noticed nothing but the amazing flavors that were hitting our taste-buds! Our service was surprisingly fast, considering the full house and the obviously made to order items we had asked for. Our drinks took the longest to arrive but I'm thinking that the bar was filled with those waiting for a space to open up. (And all of them were tasty once they got to us, so...worth the wait) Every single item we ordered was beyond fresh and so very very delicious. My personal favorite among the salmon sushimi flight, a spicy dragon roll, and some tempura veggies, were the mouthwatering pork buns that were the best I've ever had. We don't usually get desert at Sushi but the menu items were just too interesting. There was a spicy chocolate ice cream that we all devoured along with sorbet and a smore's type of deliciousness that also went fast! Can Not Wait to return for another amazing meal.

Unwelcoming and food quality dropped

By TravelAl10024 |

Very rude host repeatedly. Also quality of food dropped so it’s average now. Used to be outstanding. No one is glad to see you there. Greeted as if annoying

5 Stars for Delicious Food and Great Staff Teamwork

By Quest704343 |

Food at Bamboo is always delicious and exceptional quality. Our server was lacking though. She suggested no items on the menu or even spoke to us about it for a second aside from asking our order. With a unique sushi menu such as that, it'd be nice for a little overview. I work as a server at a celebrity chef's restaurant downtown and always, ALWAYS suggest items and talk about the menu. It is a vital part of a good service experience, and should be standard at places like this, especially since we are in Portland. Again, our lacking server. She barely took care of us on her own. The entire staff was working as a team though, which I highly appreciate, but I would have liked to know if the tips were pooled before I tipped. I work my butt off for that 20%+ at my own job and sadly I just handed it to her without any true effort on her behalf. This is why I believe table presence is a MUST. I am not expecting them to have ran every single dish of ours to our table. That's nonsense. One human being clearly cannot do it on their own, along with 5-7 other tables. I don't blame them. But she was terribly absent. I also would have liked to have enjoyed a second cocktail, as those are exceptional as well, but was never asked and the last time our server came to the table, many, many minutes after we were finished up, we were assumed to be done I suppose. Always, always ask. This was a dinner service, NOT a lunch service. During lunch, it is far more unlikely that folks will enjoy more than one beverage. 5 stars for food, vibe and overall service. 3 stars for the server of the section we sat in.

Could be great, but some disappoinments

By acepdx |

The good: Top quality fish ingredients. Sustainable philosophy. Attentive and well informed servers. Addition of reservations. Some very nice rolls and other products. Outstanding spicy cauliflower The not so good: Inconsistency. Portion sizes vary by maybe 30%. We always order mushrooms. Nice prep. Serving size varies greatly. Same with eggplant. Last visit cooked unevenly. Prices: Serving size keeps shrinking, price keeps growing. Excellent steamed pork buns 2x the price of a year ago. And the menu has been greatly reduced. There used to be some ~$10 sort of plain rolls, they are gone. Bamboo was worth 15% more than others, but pushing me away at 30% more than competition.

Perfect place to end a great girls night out!!

By Whitney K |

The best & I do mean the absolute best sushi in PDX. We came here after the Bridal expo and it was simply a great way to end a perfect night out! The restaurant is kind of small, so there was a bit of a wait, but it was soooooooooo worth it. Literally the freshest sushi I've had in the city! I got the California Sunset and it was gone in about a minute I couldn't stop eating it. The edamame they put in the tables while you wait was delicious. The peppers were awesome!!!!! Not a single person in out party had anything negative to say about the sushi they picked. Also the drinks were amazing. You have to try the Hello Kitty & the Red Letter Day - PERFECTION! This place is a must stop in PDX

Sushi Yumm

By Dane A |

Our first visit was not disappointing. There is a large selection, good service and tasty food. The atmosphere was pleasant and staff friendly. Decent happy hour menu. I’ve heard raves about their burger but we stuck to Japanese items.

Happy Hour!

By Rachael V |

This is the best food and best deal you can get for happy hour! Extensive menu of sushi and cocktails. Staff is pleasant. The fish has always been top-notch, super fresh and yummy! Well worth it!

Excellent sushi and wonderful Happy Hour!

By CzechMate2010 |

The edamame came first as a free welcome starter and that was a treat. Also, Bamboo has a great happy hour on select beers, wine and of course, sushi, apps and rolls. We started with the freshest of tuna poke (paired with a cold Sapporo) and it was so fresh, tender, with wonderful flavors. We followed that with a sishito pepper appetizer which was amazing. Our sushi and rolls were beautifully presented and were popping with color, flavors and freshness with that silky texture where the freshest of fish just melts in your mouth. Our server was wonderful and we were happy we got there early as there was a long wait by the time we left our early happy hour dinner.

This is the place for Sushi

By Darren W |

We ended up here following a business event in town. We all ordered a roll and shared. We ended up with a couple of saki samplers. The atmosphere is energetic. Our waitress was very welcoming and personable. I felt like she could have sat down at our table and mixed right in. Very pleased

Excellent food & service; Casual dining

By Dayna |

On a busy evening, we waited 5 minutes for two sitting at the sushi bar for a light shared dinner. There is outdoor seating on the street but it can be awkward depending on where you are sitting due to the shape of the tables to fit the space. The sushi chef was really friendly and personable. The items he made for us were absolutely delicious and he was nice engaging in some conversation about general Seattle/travel/life, but not too much that it was annoying or disruptive while we ate. Our waitress was also great. She was attentive and quick. We had some leftovers to take home and she included a fresh and full (extra) servicing of edamame without needing to or being asked to. We ordered a bunch to share including: $15 Friday the 13th roll: spicy salmon, cucumber, and avocado, topped with MSC albacore, tempura flakes, spicy aioli & eel sauce - which was THE BOMB! So good! "Best sushi I've even had!" - said my bf who not long ago hated sushi. $6 Crispy MOXO Potatoes: extra crispy baby potatoes tossed in MOXO sauce - very tasty and great crispy texhure, a generous serving of potatoes (a lot). Tuna nigiri - can't go wrong! I can't remember if we got the $6 steamed bun or not because we were talking about it, but honestly, all I can remember is the Friday the 13th roll !!

Simply outstanding

By jgl1 |

Ate there for dinner with a friend. There was nothing to disappoint and everything to rave about. Service was excellent, the sushi (I had the chef's selection) was amazing and the sake was hot and tasty. Great job!

Fabulous. Period. Just fabulous.

By DreamsOfMyComrades |

Every single morsel of food I put into my mouth was simply fabulous. Great selection of special rolls and small plates. The smoked trout carpaccio was a highlight. The Kimono roll was one of the most delicious sushi rolls I have ever eaten--an explosion of complimentary flavors that had me wanting more. Several vegetarian options, we tried the Miso Honey roll and it was delicious. Nice atmosphere, a bit crowded but not overly noisy. Service by a young woman named Rosie was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. If we lived in Portland we would be here once a week.

try the specials

By lynn_in_kokomo |

We sat at the suchi bar, as the restaurant was quite busy, but received efficient service and tasty dishes. I tried a special - an Ocean Farmer Roll - on a whim, and enjoyed it very much

Best Sushi of my Life

By Stormieboy |

I don't know if all sushi in the Pacific Northwest is just way better than anywhere else, but this restaurant was fantastic. It is a small, neighborhood place, but we got seated quickly. The waiter was extremely helpful in guiding us to good choices, especially with choosing a sake from the multiple page menu (he tasted two for us and let us know which he thought we would like better). The food and wine was outstanding. We had two types of rolls and albacore. It was indescribably delicious. I am ruined for sushi anywhere else.

amazing sushi

Good Vegan Choices

By JasperMarks |

We are always able to get a decent selection of vegan items to eat. Not a lot of choice, but enough. My only complaint is that the sushi is very expensive given that we are basically eating vegetables and rice.
