Amazing!! Awesome!! Outstanding!!

By pammeli1122 |

Everything about Positano is absolutely fantastic!! The cocktails were delicious. I was drinking espresso martinis, they were the best I've ever tasted. My friends were drinking watermelon martinis that were also yummy! All of our appetizers were fresh and so delicious. We ordered a large variety of apps and all I can say is one was better then the next! We had fried calamari, butternut squash ravioli, stuffed artichoke, grilled octopus, meatballs, pear Gorgonzola salad, and house salad. It only got better though, the steaks were phenomenal! The tomahawk porterhouse, and prime rib were amazing. The purse shaped pasta and gnocchi were also great! The owner sent us a bottle of champagne! It was such a wonderful way to help celebrate! For dessert the warm Nutella chocolate lava cake was simply amazing! I also had a taste of the apple crisp and that was pretty great as well. Not only was the food outstanding, but our servers William and Sergio were wonderful! They helped to make the night extra special. Positano is going to be our new "go-to" Bayridge restaurant! You must try it, you will not be disappointed!!!

Wonderful Italian Restaurant

By Catherine S |

Positano is a great little place for an intimate dinner with your significant other, a group of friends or even an extended group for a celebration. The wait staff is very friendly and very accommodating. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is very warm and comfortable. I went on a weekday for lunch and had a wonderful time. It had a nice crowd for a weekday -- there was a family at the table behind us, a long table of folks celebrating a birthday and a few other tables of two or four people. It was quiet and enjoyable. I had the butternut squash ravioli and they were delicious. I would have it again! I recommend it the next time you're in the mood for good Italian food.

Great!

My fiancée and I had dinner plans with friends and we went on yelp to look up a place in Brooklyn. This place came up and had favorable reviews so off we went. We made reservations for 5pm Saturday. When we arrived promptly at 5pm our friends were already seated enjoying a drink. There's valet but we found parking about two blocks away. Definitely make a reservation for this place. We left at 8pm and wow sooooo many people waiting for tables. Food- They serve you assorted breads with this eggplant tomato spread very delicious. The table minus myself enjoyed raw littlenecks and oysters they had an east coast and west coast oyster. They all enjoyed them and said they tasted sweet and fresh. I ordered the burrata and it was soooooo delicious! It came with roasted tomatoes and roasted peppers in a balsamic glaze. I can't wait to come back and have it again! The table shared a dozen baked clams(great),pulpo which came with roasted potatoes/string beans (amazing), stuffed artichoke(I didn't have any but my friends said it was delicious). We also shared a black linguine with seafood this dish was the winner! We asked for lobster as an add-on but when it arrived they forgot it. We brought it to their attention and our waiter was extremely apologetic about the mishap. We still enjoyed it without the lobster and loved it so much we ordered another minus the seafood it seriously that good! For our main I shared one of their specials with my fiancé a butterflied breaded sweet/sour pork chop it was good. We asked for the bone to be packed up for our dog we were told no problem but they forgot and never brought it up so we just let it go and didn't mention it. Little things like that can be a tad annoying. Our friends shared a milanese veal and they stated it was great. Dessert- Cannoli at first when I tasted the cream it tasted too zingy and rich with ricotta I was turned off. After taking a bite it all worked together very well and I enjoyed it. My fiancée had their apple crisp with comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and he enjoyed it. Our friends ordered gelato (pistachio & chocolate) and said it was good. Some cappuccinos, port wines and limoncello all great! Service- Service was amazing! Plates and utensils switched for every course. The white wine orders came in chilled glasses. The glasses were replaced every so often so that it would remain chilled. I really loved that! Our waiter was really great! Even when the crowd starting to roll in the service was still great. Price- Prices here aren't too bad on average 20-30. Obviously steak and lobster would be more. We spent about 500 on dinner for four tonight but well worth it. We ordered plenty so the bill was justified.

15 year anniversary great dinner

Awesome food. Better service. Alessio was attentive yet not over bearing. Plenty of food and the bar bill was not outrageous either. Will definitely be back often!!!

Fine Dining in Brooklyn

By Eileen P |

Was looking for a nice restaurant near our home but not the usual casual dining. We chose Positano and our immediate thought was the ambience. We went for an early dinner and since there few diners we were able to be seated immediately. The food choices that were made were excellent. We had the Orata (fish fillet) and Seafood Risotto. The risotto was perfect and served immediately when prepared which is the right way. Compliments to the chef. Our first time dining here but we will definitely return.

Lunch Menu was Not Provided

By Margaret W |

A friend and I ate at Positano for the first time on Thursday around 2pm. We were not aware that a lunch menu is provided Monday-Friday from 12-4 and our wait staff did not mention this option or provide a lunch menu so we ordered from the more expensive dinner menu with no lunch options. I sent an email directly to the restaurant alerting them of our experience and received no response. The staff is very welcoming and the food was good but I was disappointed by the oversight.

It was o.k.

My friend and I came here for dinner. I had the strawberry salad, chicken fransese, which to my surprise, had a bone in it. After they removed the bone upon my request, when I started eating the chicken I bit on a small bone which I could have swallowed or choked on. My friend had the calamari and a salad. The best food was their cannoli. My friend and I expected a better experience with the food. I can say that the service was wonderful. If our waitress was busy, at least six other employees waited on us.

Upselling plus credit card fees! Consider yourself forewarned.

With a name like Positano, we should have had a more positive experience. Here are the positives: The food was okay. The pacing of the meal was timely meaning the food was delivered at appropriate intervals. The server was decent, but when we got the bill, we realized he never mentioned the outrageous prices of the specials which across-the-board were about $20 higher per dish then comparably priced listings on the menu. Here are the negatives, which, unfortunately significantly outweigh the positives: We came in on a rainy, damp night, and were seated in a front section which ostensibly is part of the sidewalk. We asked to be seated in the empty dining room, but we were rebuffed. We were there at least an hour and 45 minutes and it was clear that there was a table available in the dining room the entire time. Where we were seated on the sidewalk slanted downhill, so there was a need for two of us to consistently adjust our chairs because we were sliding. Also, for a highly priced restaurant, it’s pretty odd that there’s a giant television in the dining room. Some people might like that but we found tacky. Also, for a high-priced restaurant it’s surprising there are no tablecloths. And here’s what I mean by high-priced. They were three of us at the table. Two of us ordered specials, one ordered off the menu. As previously mentioned, we didn’t know the price of the specials when the server described them. What the server definitely did though was upsell both of them. That became apparent when we got the check and compared the two specials we ordered to listings on the menu that were very similar. One special was $55 and something similar on the menu was $36. Another special was $59 and a similar item on the special in the low 30s. So the server earned his keep by upselling us and subsequently jacking the bill up around $50 when we could have easily ordered comparable dishes off the menu. If that wasn’t insulting enough, this restaurant actually had the nerve to present a bill that had a cash total and a credit card total with a significant charge for the credit card fee. So I guess they see themselves as more of a gas station than a restaurant because that’s not what upscale restaurants do. I’ve eaten at the highest rated restaurants in the city, and I have never, ever been to a restaurant where I have ever seen that before. So between the waiter clearly upselling the specials and the unbelievably ballsy cash versus credit card fee on a $300+ bill for three people who don’t drink, Positano was negativo and we will never go back again. FYI: Bay Ridge is filled with great restaurants. This isn’t one of them. There are tons of better choices, and I encourage you to choose one.

Very good Italian near Verrazano Bridge

By Stefan L |

Very friendly staff and owner. They make you feel at home. Ceaser Salad here is one of my favorites. The Frank Sinatra and Lobster Ravioli are just wonderful. Salmon is crispy on the top, and tender on the inside. Coffee, Espresso and Cappuccino's are all great. Nice selection of wines at reasonable prices, try the Montepulchiano @ $11.00 it is great.

Great place

My wife and I went to Positano on a busy late Saturday afternoon. When we walked in we were treated so friendly. Lauren our server was so nice and never hovering, but always there when we needed he. As for the food think delicious Italian. And you will be happy.

Disgusting customer service!

By Inna C |

I wish I could give them 0 stars. Made reservations a week in advance for 6 people for lunch. Nobody called to confirm. When we called to add another person the day of the lunch they told me yes we see your reservations but yesterday someone came to reserve a private party so sorry you can't come. So they decided that private party over rides me and didn't bother to even worn me. If I didn't call myself we would just be standing in 19 degree weather with nowhere to eat. Disgusting!!! This is not how you treat customers. I wanted to try this place to book a 40 people birthday party and they showed me just what kind of service to expect.

Positano’s In Bay Ridge is Perfection.

I ate lunch at this lovely restaurant for the first time on Dec. 3, 2018. My friend walks with a cane and has trouble sliding her legs under a small table for 2. We asked if we could sit at a table for 4 instead of 2 and they said “Sure, not a problem.” We ordered an appetizer of 4 meatballs and requested marinara sauce (instead of tomato sauce because the former is less sweet, at least to our tastebuds.) Our waiter, Valentino, said “No problem.” That appetizer cost $12.00 and was very tasty, especially with grated Parmesan and sprinkled pepper. My friend ordered a dish with roasted chicken which had potato croquette and rice as well. That dish was $22.00 and she said its taste and texture were superb. I ordered the pear-Gorgonzola-caramelized pecans salad with roasted white chicken slices, $18.00. I normally do not get excited about food but this salad was beyond outstanding because of the dressing that went with it. So yummy! To top off our meal, we each had an espresso and to my surprise, Valentino put a bottle of Sambuca on the table to go with the espresso. So my friend and I each poured the desired amount into our espresso cups. Zowie! How much more delicious can eating and drinking get? The espresso and Sambuca was $4.00 per cup. Valentino was assisted by 2 other capable gentlemen but I did not get their names, sorry. Their ladies’ room was spotlessly clean. To conclude, this restaurant was very accommodating and cooked/served delicious food. You should try it, I think you will be very happy with the tasty food, the attentive and congenial service, the attractive atmosphere, the fair prices and the location. 3 buses stop very close to Positano’s: the B16, B37, and the B63.

NOT KID FRIENDLY and HORRIBLE SERVICE!

By HeartSki |

I was told by our Waiter that "we don't normally have kids in this Restaurant. We don't have kid drinks nor kids menu." Really so families do not come to eat here and you dont have juices, soda or milk? I was in the Bar room waiting for the bathrooms (3 single stalls for the entire restaurant!!) and I noticed at least 3 other tables with 5 total kids just by glancing. We were a big group of friends here for a birthday celebration. When we all were seated, we asked the waiter what's his recommendation. His wise guy answer, "we have a small menu, everything is good!" OH MY GOSH! There's at least 33 entrees on their Menu.. thats what Small means? He did not even give us the daily specials but we overheard him tell the table of 6 Italians the specials they had or at least describe dishes to them. When I requested my kids drinks be without ICE, our waiter gave us a drink with ice and my son was under the weather so I told him that my son doesnt want to drink it with the ice. He says, "You only asked for no ice for the one juice not the other one." I had to explain to him I told him when I ordered I didnt want any ice in the juices. Come on, I have to explain myself again! Asked to speak to the manager about his attitude and we get our own waiter back to apologize. What's the point of arguing with our server; a manager should be made aware of his service unless he is THE manager?!?! Of course the gratuity is already included on a big group as expected, so he did not have to work on the TIP, but that is no way to discriminate your costumers. The Food (Fried calamari, pear salad, lamb chops, lobster ravioli).. edible and nothing special. Coming back... NEVER!

Authentic Italian with great views of Verrazano Bridge

By Joseph A |

My husband and I had dinner with friends this past Friday at Positano's. We came all the way from New Jersey but was well worth the trip. First off, they offer valet parking! How amazing was that especially if you don't know the local neighborhood! And it was free but giving a good tip is recommended. There's inside and outside seating. They give you delicious breads and this amazing tapenade to go with it. We shared the calamari and this amazing mozzarella fried dish! So good For dinner, we all got pasta since it made fresh. I had the black seafood linguine, my husband had the orecchiette with sausage! It's a really relaxing place, you don't feel rushed and everyone super friendly.

Neighborhood feel...one of the best.....

By castoff13 |

The menu indicates "traditional NYC Italian" but the service and quality of the food says it's more than that. Friendly staff, generous portions, good house wine, one of the best lobster ravioli I've ever had. Pay attention to the specials! Wait staff got everything right (we were a larger party) and handled the crowd with good humor. One quibble...well, more than a quibble. We asked for our check to be split three ways and they did so without a problem. Gave us three different credit card slips to sign. Left our gratuity in cash. One month later, we find out they took it upon themselves to dump it all on one credit card. Cannot understand why. (Don't try to call the manager, he's never available). It was an inconvenience more than anything, but still inexplicable.

Great food !

Brought here for dinner by our American relatives. Fantastic food and atmosphere. Busy and quite loud.

A bit of the Amalfi Coast in Brooklyn

By Orlando P |

On the day that we went to Positano, it was a very special day. My daughter had just graduated from a well known university and we were there to celebrate. We were greeted very warmly by very one. Our waiter was very attentive and caring, letting us know all the specials of the day. When the dishes came, it was a feast for the eyes. It was three of us, so we could not help but taste a little of each other's plates. Each sampling was an explosion of flavors that left us with the desire to try more dishes. Which we will do, the next time. I thank the whole staff for making my daughter's day so special. Thank you so much!!! This is definitively a place to go to enjoy everything this restaurant has to offer and spend some time with friends and family.

Average Overall

By Charles D |

Attended a family event. Started with antipasto which was the usual cold cut platter-Average. Followed by pasta-Average. Entree was Veal Marsala-thinly sliced Veal with a Marsala Sauce that did not taste of Marsala-Poor. Dessert was a slice of cake-Average. Seating was tight, and service was Average. Expected better.

Always a good meal.

By Stefan L |

I would have given 5 stars if it were not for the noise. I have dined here several times, and that is my only distraction. The Salads, Fish, Pasta and meats are all done really well. The Tomahawk Steak we shared this time with the delicious sides was better than in many of the steak houses I have visited. The Espresso they serve (with a bottle of Sambuca) is better then average.

High Hopes Dashed

By dacmav |

Had wanted to eat here for some time. Finally talked my husband into an early dinner there late one Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was full, but there was a table available on the sidewalk along 4th Avenue. The table was a wobbler, first of all, but. I biggie. Next our waiter arrived, recited specials, took our drink order & all seemed fine. The drinks came & they were good - dirty martinis with extra olives. This is where things went down hill. We waited for an eternity for our food. The waiter eventually brought some bread but the food took forever to arrive. My husband was getting annoyed and the large table behind us being loud wasn’t helping. When the food finally arrived it was a disappointment. My husband’s was cold, and mine was hot but I had the distinct impression it had recently been in the microwave. Needless to say I had to listen to it from my husband for dragging him there for such a lack luster meal and spotty service. The following month we ate in Campania, two blocks away, and were told it is the same owners. I still have trouble believing it - Campania is like the favorite child, and Positano could use some of that same oversight & TLC to help make it live up to its potential.

Very good chicken parm

By bootsnfuzz |

I only give it 4 stars because there was no lunch menu on Sunday at 2:00 pm so the dinners were pricey. $23 for chicken parm. But it was excellent. If you don’t mind the price go there.

Always a good meal

By Stefan L |

The house salad and the Tomahawk steak that we shared were excellent.. The wine was a good recommendation (Zenato Valpolice). A little noisey this night but not intolerable.

FANTASTIC

The food was superb, and the service was top notch. Everything that was ordered in our group was delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Best Pizza I have gotten in Brooklyn

By FelixNorth28 |

I visited this little Italian restaurant some weeks before, and its and nice place to take a dinner. The waiter are amazing and told me a lot about New York and Brooklyn, in a very polite way and gave me bunch of recommendations. The Selection for wine is very good and the prices are okay for Brooklyn. The menu is not so big, has more a perfect size for an Italian restaurant. You can chose between pasta / pizza and both things are amazing. You can taste the fresh products this place use for the menus. It was fantastic, I would every time come back to this place.

positano restaurant is one

By Archie |

positano restaurant is one of the few Italian establishments in New York where you can feel the true Italian atmosphere where Italian charm is combined with the home atmosphere. The food here is excellent you can feel the gastronomic Nirvana. Well and of course the service, waiters are great and they do their job perfectly. P.S. Enzoooooo the best.

Bring Your Appetite and Your Earplugs

By Joann S |

The food in Positano is excellent, as well as the service. What I like best is the Old World custom of the waiter leaving a bottle of Sambuca on your table to enjoy with your dessert and espresso at the end of your meal. However, if you are in the mood for a delicious meal in a relaxing atmosphere, this is not the place. The acoustics in Positano are terrible and the tables are close together. Therefore, the cacophony of voices throughout the restaurant is not conducive to conversation. To make things worse, Positano has background music going as well as several televisions on the walls featuring sporting events, news, etc. It's sensory overload. So, as much as I enjoy their food, I will not be returning. I go to restaurants for the conversation and the ambiance as well as the food. Positano's A+ rating on the former, doesn't compensate for it's D- on the latter.

Positano restaurant a must!!!

By Rosaria M |

If you have not eaten at Positano yet, I most definitely recommend you do. Food was delicious , fresh and the service was fantastic especially Alessio was our waiter along with his other assistant. They made sure myself and my parents had a great dinner experience. Thank you Alessio , staff and chef for a memorable dinner.

WOW, What A Meal....

By Ed S |

The Review for Meal on Feb. 3rd, 2017 at Lunch Time... Once again we revisited Positano for a Family Lunch. Positano was moderately crowded around 12:30PM which is a good sign. As always we were greeted and seated promptly by their wonderful staff. Soon we were served as comp on the table their fresh Italian & Olive Bread with daily made Caponata. You can also have City Tap Water or a Italian Sparkling Water. Their Bar selections are very good. I have never been disappointed with their wines or cocktails. Our waiter recited the Daily Specials which were a salad, ravioli, pasta and fish entrée. Being acquainted with menu already from past visits we were ready to order. Three of us shared an order of Caesar Salad which worked out well for a started. My mother order the Ortolano Panini Sandwich which was grilled vegetable ex. Eggplant, Zucchini, Tomato and Mushroom on a Brick Oven Roll. My wife had her favorite the Whole Branzino - oven roasted Mediterranean Sea and vegetables. I tried for the first time the Vongole Clam Sauce over Pasta. The portion was generous but light and I finished every bit even dipping the bread into sauce not to waste it. During the meal the restaurant manager Willie came by and checked each table to see that his guests were happy with their selections and service. We have never had a negative word about either on this our 5th visit to Positano. Well ever good meal deserves a dessert at the end. All had Coffee, Decaf Tea and Cappuccino. We selected the Napoleon which was shared and I select a Tiramisu the was fluffy and light and tasty. Well another meal very much enjoyed at Positano. Definitely will return and bring friends to enjoy. Taking time to compliment Willie with the meal we enjoyed. Asking about dining in the evenings like Saturday Night, best to come around 6 PM. Definitely Reservations Must Be Made For Prime Time. Please give Positano a try... You will not be disappointed.......

delicious soft shell crabs

Low key Italian restaurant, good service, fair prices. I enjoyed a lovely evening sitting outside but with a ceiling cover. Food was delicious, ladies’ bathroom was spacious and clean, attentive wait staff.

Good food but lousy service

By elechten |

I am a regular customer at this restaurant and although the food is consistently good, I have noticed that the service has been gradually declining to the point I have decided to mention it on this review. The place gets busy easily, it's a popular place with a nice location and atmosphere. However the waiters are becoming less attentive to the customers where request for drinks refills are delayed or completely forgotten. I left the place not willing to go back again.

Dinner

By marield1990 |

Came here as a group of 5. Got seated at a nice corner table. The staff was great. We got the burrata and prosciutto and the fried zucchini blossom appetizers. Both were delicious. For dinner I got the seafood pasta. It was good. Sauce could have been a bit tastier. The chocolate lava cake for dessert was yummy.

Brooklyn Italian at its best.

By Janet C |

This meal brings me home. Just fabulous. Sal the waiter was helpful and quick. The bread met my expectation.the beet salad deilcous. The meatballs were truly brooklyn italian and so was chicken parmesian. They were a ten. Nice seating outside with view of verazano. If you want a taste of true brooklyn food come here.

overpriced, overrated, subpar

By natdan011 |

Just were in this restaurant October 1, 2022. Never again! The only good thing is wait staff. They were excellent. The place is not cozy, no tablecloth, the glass doors wide open as there was sitting outside, and it was 55F outside. The huge TV on the wall with local news Channel on mute didn't add any joy. After the request they changed it to a sports channel. Why would you need to watch it, it's not a sport bar. As to the drinks, the cocktail was not bad, but Pinot Grigio by glass was literally half a glass. The food was the worst Italian food we have ever had, and we live in NYC for 25 years. Antipasti Portobello Mushroom was all vinegar, and Spaghetti Sinatra had sand from not properly washed seafood. Antipasti Bufala Mozzarella Special was heavily overpriced- $ 30 and it was nothing so special about it. The most disgusting thing was small flies trying to land on our food. It was chilly and raining outside, so I am not sure where the flies came from. Also, be ready to pay CC fee for using your credit card. Our check for two people was $174 plus $31 surcharge. It was a bad choice to come to this place.

Perfect except for the TVs

By Jim & Karen |

We love Positano. The staff, the kitchen team, the atmosphere and the menu are all great. We've made dinner at Positano our Christmas Eve family tradition. Our one suggestion is that they turn the large screen TVs off during Christmas Eve dinner seatings (or put them on the Yule Log or the Norad Santa Tracker...). It's such a simple oversight on their part. The whole place looks festive and perfect for the evening and family's celebrating together but is thrown wildly off by the TVs glowing with ESPN.

NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED

By NYCPIANIST |

The reviews we saw beforehand were very positive but we were disappointed with the following:1-We were seated in what I guess was the bar room. The space was tight and the blaring music, which was not suited for the age of the crowd, was near unbearable.Although the service was top the food was salty and not pleasant. We waited a long time to be able to get to this restaurant and it was not really worth the trip.We won't be back.

Anniversary Dinner.

By Sunset92 |

This year we wanted to try some place new for our anniversary dinner, a friend recommended this place. We didn’t make reservations because it was a Wednesday evening. There were people dinning outside and others dinning inside. It was pretty full for a Wednesday evening. When we walked in, we were given the option of two tables. We did not like either, but we chose the one in the second room. It was right by the kitchen. There was a table behind us that was vacant, but they didn’t offer us that one and it was empty the entire time that we were there. That’s my only negative. Why sit the customer at the worst table when there are others available? The service was OK they could’ve been friendlier. The food was very good. We really enjoyed our meal, but felt uncomfortable where we were seated.

Good but not as good as it's predecessor

By MrsV75 |

Went here with a few people and we were all very hungry. First time at this restaurant under this particular name. This used to be '101' and very popular in this area and trendy and delicious! Since the change over we hadn't been here. So - the interior needs a lot of TLC or some charm at least. Nice pictures on the wall but that's about all I can say for the ambience. We ordered a bottle of wine which was pricey but fine. We all ordered dishes we wouldn't normally order at an 'italian' restaurant. The dishes offered were a nice change from the usual. A different twist on common italian meals. We all concur, the food was good albeit somewhat salty and again, very pricey. Service was very good. They tried very hard to make you feel welcome (note to management: do not discipline your staff in view of customers) and provided good service. We'll go back eventually.

First class found - nice prices

By eherb |

We were visiting Fort Hamilton Museum and stopped at the Positano for lunch on a mild day. Doors were open so everything was bright and spiffy. Restaurant was clean and well designed. The menu had many Italian dishes. We had two that were excellent. And moderately priced. Service was friendly and helpful. Recommend to all

Excellent

By ds |

We arrived just before the dinner rush on a Saturday night, without reservations, and it was crowded already but they squeezed us in. Everything we had was amazing. My husband and son shared the tomahawk steak, it was perfect. Everything was tender, and seasoned perfectly. The food is excellent. Don't miss this place.

Bayridge’s finest

By jlaricos |

Positano is a neighborhood, family owned restaurant that strives to reflect a piece of Italy in Brooklyn. The atmosphere, decor and Brooklyn authenticity combines a must visit experience for anyone in the area. The fresh seafood or warm Italian dishes are home made recipes you can not find anywhere. Sit back and enjoy the hospitality combined with one of the best views of “The Bridge”.

A Great Find

By worldtraveler428 |

Went here twice with friends and the food and service were top notch both times. For starters we had both grilled octopus and calamari. These were large portions and we should've ordered one maybe two appetizers for three of us. The portions were generous so we couldn't finish it all but it was delicious. On the first visit we ordered - shrimp fra diavolo, stuffed chicken and shrimp scampi - DELICIOUS. Dessert coconut sorbet and cheesecake. The second time we had lobster ravioli and lamb chops - WoW again. Dessert it was a nutella chocolate lava cake and pistachio tartufo. The wine selection is extensive and we really enjoyed that when you order coffee, cappuccino they bring a bottle of sambuca to the table. We will definitely return to this gem of a restaurant.

WOW....First Timer

Taste Italy in Our Backyard

By SINYC718 |

Friends of mine first this Resturant. It has an amazing vibe even mid week. Beautiful terrace with outdoor seating. Most importantly a staff that is willing to customize an already amazing menu. The customized chicken siciliana (to chicken breast) was outstanding. The crab cake was great. The filet steak gnocchi was outstanding. The management team all the way down to the bus boys were on point- A+++

Fantastic meal

By BAHuston3 |

We stopped into Positano on the way to Long Beach. Very easy to get to from the Verrazano Bridge. The place was packed. This seems to a Neighborhood restaurant. No reservations and no Open Table. They have valet parking. We paid the guy $8. He asked for $5 minimum. Service was very good. The food was delicious. My Pasta Bolognese and my wife’s chicken Francese were excellent. My pasta was the best I have ever had. The bread was good too. We just had wine by the glass because we were driving another hour or so... They have sidewalk seating. There seemed to be 2-3 dinning rooms. All very loud. Our room in the back was a little less noisy. They did have two TVs with the Yankee game on. (The yanks won!!!) We will be back the next time we are in the area!!! Enjoy.

Great food service without personality

By Donna L |

I tried this restaurant based on an recommendethion from a friend . I found them to be fairly priced with decent food in fact we returned a second time to celebrate a family members birthday . The only reason I gave them four start instead of five was there wait staff needs to get a personality the bus boys and hostesses were working harder and nicer then our waiter who fell flat on both our visits . If great service is what you want go somewhere else . I left the waiter a good tip however wished I could have left him nothing and given everything to the two bus boys and hostess .

Exceptional restaurant - just a tad noisy but so well worth the visit.

By Tony Matos |

We were in town and staying in Brooklyn and found Positano on Tripadvisor. We thought the staff was extremely personable and the atmosphere to be strong. The menu was delightful and the service exceptional. I'd strongly recommend but caution it is somewhat noisy, not a horrible thing, but maybe not ideal for a romantic dinner if conversation is important. I actually looked around to see if I noticed and noise mitigation panels or ceiling tiles; probably not a bad idea but it certainly would not keep me from going back!

OMG Good

By Rappongi27 |

Walked in without a reservation at about 5:30 on a Thursday evening. Everything was wonderful, from the atmosphere (nice but not fancy), to the service (among the best I've seen), to the food (please continue to serve me the eggplant parmigiana!!). We likely would not have gone here if we were not in the neighborhood anyway because it is a long way to go for a tourist staying in midtown Manhattan, but we were glad we made it. Among other things, its a heckuva lot cheaper than the same meal in Manhattan.

Good pasta. Great service

Came for late lunch, nice quiet location. If you seat outside, you'll have the view of the Verrazano Bridge while enjoying their good food. I personally like their pastas. They also have a full-bar. The place is clean and fast service.

A Gm in Bay Ridge

My wife and had read about Positano on 4th Avenue.Wow, What a nice surprise. We're seated in the window section up front. After we ordered our wine, we purused the menu. It had what appeared to be typical Italian fare. We ordered the mussels in a white sauce to start. They were out of this world fresh, plump and tasty! For our main courses I had the Dover sole and my wife had branzino. We shared. They were both prepared properly and not over seasoned. They were delicious! We will definitely be back!

Place was nice and busy! Make reservations if possible! Got the special steak (Tomahawk) was good and ouch expensive!

Terrible service.

By LizinCo |

The food was delicious, but the service was really bad. Our waiter was so enamored of a neighboring table that we were totally neglected. Want another drink? Wave him down. Want dessert? Ask. My husband finally very loudly interrupted his conversation at the next table to ask for our bill. I have never stiffed a waiter. Tonight, the waiter received zero from me.

I visited Positano on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. I walked in and thought what a gorgeous place! Love the menu. Excellent service and the food was wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant for a date, girls night out or any special occasion. Can't wait to go back!

Good standard Italian food

Positano's is a really cute joint near the Verrazano bridge in bay ridge. It has modern decor and an airy, open feel. Overall, the food is good, but not excellent. They have lots of fried appetizers, tasty pasta dishes, and flavorful, fresh fish.

Just found this terrific local spot in Bay Ridge

This was a wonderful and surprising restaurant experience. Our first time here and the food and service were exceptional. We started with appetizers: my wife had a special with calamari, scungilli, and shrimps in a Fra Diavolo sauce; it was enough for 3 people! Delicious!! I had a tuna tartare and it, too, was delicious. My wife had the Chicken Scarpiello; big pieces of chicken and whole sausages in a tasty sauce, terrific! I had the Veal Francese. It came with vegetables and potato croquette. and the whole dish was amazingly great. We washed it all down with a very reasonable bottle of a delicious Sicilian red. We finished with a creme brule and some ice cream Portions are huge. Wait staff provided excellent service and assistance with the menu. The entire meal with drinks, dessert, tax, and tip was about $200.

First but not last visit!

We with a group of 20 people for an early dinner. We had 3 different appetizers that were served family style. Capprese salad, Fried Calamari and Nona’s meatballs. I have never in my life had meatballs that were light as air. I kept expecting them to start floating. The taste was superb! For my entree I had Veal Franchisee that was served with fresh vegetables and potato croquettes! Sweets were an assortment of delicious pastries! Definitely going back here!

Excellent Italian Restaurant

Went here with my wife for an early dinner and were not disappointed. We were seated right away and the staff was very attentive. We started with the beet salad which my wife loved. It also had small ricotta balls in the mix. I had the Portuguese octopus which was grilled to perfection. The meat was crispy and chewy but not rubbery very, very good. Mt wife had the Pork Osso Bucco which was a special that day. The meat was tender and soft, it can with flat noodles and a rich brown sauce, she loved it. I had another special, rigatoni with Sundays sauce.. The sauce had sausage, meatballs, pig skin and brasciole with a rich red gravy, excellent. We were so stuffed we only had coffee to end our meal. Staff was friendly and very efficient and attentive. Our waiter came over a couple of times to ask if we liked the food and if he could do anything else for us. Overall very very enjoyable meal highly recommended. Not cheap but well worth the price.

Went on Saturday night and it was jammed. There was valet parking if you want it or you can take your chances on street parking which are quite scarce. Had reservations for 4 people at 8pm but had to wait for about 30 minutes before we were offered a table outside. The service was very good and very attentive. The appetizers were great. We ordered the Antipasto Freddo and the meatballs. The antipasto was a very generous portion. For entree, everything was really tasty except for my entree, which was the Orecchiette. It was very bland. However, all portions for the entrees were also very generous. They have a very good and varied selection of wines to choose from, which I think were all very reasonably priced. I also found the prices of all the food items to be reasonably priced. Therein lies the difference between Brooklyn and Manhattan. Overall, it was a very good experience due to the service and the value of the food we were getting. The only things I would've preferred were a quicker seating and a little more flavor on my orecchiette. If you're in the neighborhood, I think it's worth the visit.

Watch out

Overpriced specials are pushed on You and are 12-14 dollars over normal menu items. Wine are poor values. Especially the house wines. They do make a great cup of coffee and espresso but expect the bums rush to claim your table before you finish the meal. Service sporadic. Very noisy when full. So much so it is hard to have a conversation. Try it during the week It may be better

Once Again Another Great Meal....

By BklynBoy8 |

Once again we returned the other day as a family we visited Positano for a great lunch. Again Willie our waiter greeted us and seated us. As a treat each time we were given a basket of mixed bread, italian and olive loaf. On the side a Homemade Eggplant Caponata. We order our favorite Caesar Salad which we all shared. Very well made and creamy dressing. My mother order lite and enjoyed the Mozzarella in Carozza. I enjoyed for the first time the Chicken Marsala. Very good. And my wife enjoyed her favorite dish at Positano, Pappardelle alla Bolognese, To too fill ourselves too much, we enjoyed several hot drinks, hot tea and Italian Cappuccino. I would not hesitate to recommend Positano to anyone to treat. You will feel like you are eating in Italy. Treat yourself. We were recommended to make reservations for Saturday Night. Best to come already 6PM without reservations. Enjoy!

A fantastic place to eat

Superb service by Hugo. The owner, who is from Kosovo is also a great guy. We both loved our Spaghetti Sinatra. Fabolous desserts and very good wine. There is a nice bar to wait at before dinner. Nice ambiance and we had a really nice time.
