Happy Hour

By JoeyC4SC |

Was a great place for some happy hour beer or wine. Loved the lighting and minimalist feel. The happy hour snacks were great too.

Awesome Wine Bar

By b2b0813 |

I stumbled upon this place while on a business trip. I wish it was a chain that existed in my home city of DC--Such as great atmosphere. Dim lighting and numerous couches, tables, and bars to choose from. The wine list is one of the best I've seen and the server was very knowledgable about the flavor profiles and regions. They were selected to pilot the Coravin which allowed for an even greater selection. The food was also good, albeit a tad over-priced for the portion. If you're looking for a classic wine bar, this is your place.

Sophisticated vibe

By Shazmoana |

The doorman gets a five star rating - he was super stylish and gave a sense of what the inside would be like. Indeed the bar itself oozes style, a great selection of wines and ambiance.

Great scene but overpriced (although fashionable) appetizers. Bring the cheque book though....

Crashed a Google Party - Sorry guys!

By WanttoGetoutMore |

Looked like a great place with grooving music. They may want to put up "private party" signs next time!

Amazing Experience!

By Christiana H |

I hosted a cocktail party for 150 people at this venue and the group loved it. The decor is understated and warm. The wine selection was impressive and the staff went out of their way to wow us. I have only good things to say about Press Club!

Amaze! Cannot wait to come back

By KMay-Canada |

Honestly, if you're in San Francisco there is no reason for you not to check out Press Club. The vibe is amazing, the food is perfection and the service is impeccable. It might be tough to get a booking, but that's just because not only do tourists love this spot, but locals do to. This is a must do for wine in San Fran...you have to go.

Very cool wine bar

By Laurie D |

I loved this place! The wine list was great and the atmosphere was very relaxed. It's close to Union Square, so very convenient to hotels, shopping, and restaurants.

Excellent wine bar/lounge

By JitinC |

Great design and ambiance. If you are looking for a high quality place to go with friends or colleagues, you cannot go wrong here.

Good food but

By Lorenzo_TN |

We had a private party at the Press Club - very good food indeed but not enough for the people attending. Good local beers.

Good location and comfortable, but overpriced and underserviced

By Cherry_Wonderdog |

Attended a baby shower here at the end of a tech conference. The wine was good, but the appetizers were nothing special. Knowing how much my company was charged, I would not recommend Press Club for anything more than a glass of wine.

True club--good food but no real tables, just stools & lounge seating

By amyinsanantonio |

I have to say I found it hard to eat with my colleagues as we huddled around a little cocktail/coffee table. We were attempting to have a real dinner. Food was wonderful, but maybe "dinner" wasn't the best idea. This is the place if you really just want to drink and have only a bite to eat. Good service. Dark, intimate. Some awkward seating. One or two can sit on the "couch" but then the other one or two people have to sit on ottomans. I think I'm just too old to find that comfortable for long.... Truffle popcorn was great as were all other other small bites plates. Order the churros for dessert!

Fine Wine and Tapas

By Bill R |

Surprisingly good wine bar with a tapas menu where everyone ought to find something to their liking. We ordered the kale salad, lamb sliders (they kindly added an extra one to make it an even number), and duck prosciutto pizzetta. Each mouthful was delicious, washed down with an Santa Lucia Highlands pinot noir. The two desserts -- chocolate mouse ice cream sandwich bites and "Old School" barks and bites -- were followed by a sweet Loupiac Bordeaux. Serv ice and relaxing décor couldn't have been nicer.

If you love wine and bars, go here!

By LondonBlueJules |

Really cool venue with huge basement kitted out with various bars which meant the place had a real buzzy vibe but we were seated and served quickly. Wine list is extensive and local based. Only wish we had stayed longer and found this earlier. Better than eno.

Atmosphere and quality

By Constance F |

This was one of my favorite places to go when I lived in San Francisco. Knowledgeable staff, high quality food and wines, and a wonderful and relaxing atmosphere. I can't recommend it enough.

Awesome Hangout

By Robert A |

I met up with a family friend here for drinks and appetizers. The ambiance was great. They have a small seating area on the ground floor level and a very large seating area downstairs. The downstairs crowd seemed very lively. Since we wanted to catch up after not seeing each other for 15 years we sat in the smaller seating area. We ordered a selection of appetizers to accompany our wine and conversation. We were pleased with everything we ordered and the portion sizes were fairly large. The service was perfect. Our server managed to always be available when we needed her without being overly intrusive. I would go out of my way to visit this place again. It was probably one of the highlights of my trip.

Awesome celebratory spot

By Jamie G |

I planned a small surprise gathering for my boyfriend's birthday and I found that everyone I spoke with prior to the event was super helpful and true to their word. Service was great but also not too in your face, pressuring guests to order more than needed. I didn't have any food but my friends devoured their order so I assume it was great. Would definitely go back and even plan another similar party!

Trendy, busy spot with great wines and service.

By Alli |

I came in right at the end of happy hour and the place was very busy, there were one or two tables and a few spots at the bar available though. I took a seat at the bar and was immediately give a menu and a water by the friendly bartender. I was looking to choose between two different flight of wine and the bartender was very knowledgeable in helping me make my choice. I can recommend the pino noir flight! I also got one of the cheese plates which was delicious. Overall it was a fun place to be with great wines and great service.

Cool wine bar

By Ray K |

If your a looking for a wide-ranging list of wines and tapas style appetizers, I would definitely suggest going to The Press Club. This is swanky place with lounge seating and a thoroughly knowledgeable staff.

Top SF wine bar

By Pat C |

Great wine selection and service, especially and unsurprisingly for California options. Price options are wide, mark up on higher end bottles like Dalla Valle was higher than I'd like but glad that they had that quality available. Recommend for happy hour and dates but could be a wait for a table.

Perfection.

By Jennifer R |

The wines are amazing, the small plates were perfection on a plate, the vibe was awesome and the service was great. I recommend the wine flights - Usual Suspects was my favorite and paired perfectly with the goat cheese stuffed squash blossoms and the bing cherry cheese plate. I went here twice in 3 days and I wish they had one in Boston!

excellent place overall. stay away if you don´t like wine!!

By Ricardo Antequera |

really upscale, yet comfy place. good music, food and wine. Perhaps they should work on adding more options to wines by the glass, but, other than that, it´s the perfect place to have a good time with friends or business

fun, lively atmosphere, a good find

By RomeKedi |

I rented out a lounge for 20 people for a birthday party and we all really enjoyed ourselves. I was out of the country when I planned it and the staff was very helpful in planning a menu and wine selection and keeping it within my budget -- much appreciated! The food was good, the wine was excellent. I liked the DJ although he could have played some better tunes to get the place moving a bit more. The overall atmosphere, and the service was outstanding. The only improvement to the food is (1) to add some more salad/vegetable options - the veggies/salads weren't great (2) the pate could be improved by serving it with toasted bread, but the rest of the food was excellent and we had a great time.

Upscale wine bar

By BPenuliar2015 |

The Press Club is a hip/trendy wine bar on Yerba Buena. We ordered a flight of red wines from the US and Europe- a Pinot and Cabernet from the US and a merlot and a cab from Europe . Our bartender explained the wines we were served and she was very knowledgeable about the wines they carry. We also ordered a platter of cheese from Vermont . Went really well with our choices of wine .

Great space, great wine, great food

By ebbienc |

I was here for a company event, so didn't have a single traveler experience. However, the space at the Press Club is beautiful and relaxing at the same time. The food and wine were both outstanding. And the service was second to none. We had a great work event at the Press Club and I would love to go there again.

Top notch and great people watching

By fcflint |

I ate at the Press Club alone as I was on a business trip alone. The food was great, the service was ideal, and the sight of the crowd helped being alone much easier. It was welcoming and fun.

Great Wine Bar

By JoeHafky |

Visited here on. A Friday evening before a Giants game. They had attentive knowledgeable service. We sampled the pinots and had Samosas and cheese for snacks. Highly recommended if you are looking for wine.

Fantastic selection of wine is a nice location

By Lucy G |

We wanted to try some Californian wine on our first evening in San Fran and Press Club didn't disappoint. Its a great bar, with a nice atmosphere and had a DJ when we were there. Laid back atmosphere with lots of places to sit in groups or at the bar. We both had a wine flight and some delicious sharing food - meat platters, cheese. Would certainly recommend.

More than just Wine

By David S |

Had a great night with friends here and we were all pleased to know beer was available too. The food menu was quaint but I would suggest going for the charcuterie. Better price to food ratio. We loved the lounge feel and music too!

Lovely place for a drink

By Travellover6128 |

We got here just as it opened in the evening and managed to get happy hour prices on wine, which is $3 off per glass. For the cheaper glasses of wine this does make a big difference! It does get extremely busy very quickly with lots of reserved tables, so getting a seat after 5.30pm, is challenging. We had a couple of glasses of wine each and shared a cheese selection. Very good prices on both. Service was a little slow, not as many people around considering the amount of customer. Loved the atmosphere, like a large trendy wine bar. Will definitely go back.

Hidden gem worth a visit

By PCliveR |

We were directed to this wine bar by our hotel concierge - we would never have found it ourselves as it is off the Main Street. The exterior was not particularly inviting but wow!! Once inside and downstairs the place opens up into a very busy wine bar with great food options and a superb wine list and cocktails. We were mesmerised by the daunting options but revelled in the atmosphere. The staff were both friendly and helpful, with a wide knowledge of the wines on offer. We visited twice during our short stay and will be back as it will be a 'must' on our itinerary.

Fabulous reception!

By PADiamond |

Outstanding appetizers and wines by the glass. Highly knowledgable staff. Varied seating arrangement with both small and large spaces.

Great place to hang out

Great place to hang out

Great place for solo wino

By BizTraveller168 |

So I had a free night in the city, and decided to spend my time here. I've been to San Francisco a dozen times in the past 3 or 4 years and have always stayed in SoMa, but didn't discover Yerba Buena Lanes until today, despite spending a lot of time at the Metreon across the street. It's a stylish bar, not a lot of food choices, as it's primarily a bar. Happy hour (check their website for hours) does not include their wine flights or the coravin served wines. I decided to go for the Napa flight. It featured some of Napa's great producers: Corison, Quintessa, Paradigm and Nickel and Nickel. At $90, it wasn't cheap, but I do think it was reasonable given the retail prices of the bottles, the surroundings of the bar, and the ability to swirl, smell and sip 4 different wines in one sitting. Spent 2.5 hours appreciating the 4 glasses I had. Service was very good, the place was packed, but sitting at the bar made sure I got what I needed fast. If you're a wino, and have a few hours to kill, come here, whether alone or in a small group

Walked out

By Rosemary F |

The spiel sounded good so on the list it went. Of the 7 bars we visited, this was one of two we walked out of without having a drink. Firstly it was extremely loud rendering the atmosphere uncomfortable. We also found it clinical & pretentious. Luckily we found a few others suited to us.

Repertoire worthy spot!

By James B |

I've only been for work related jaunts but I absolutely love the environment. Its a very comfortable place that is just noisy enough. The staff is very nice. The wine selection is great though I'm no wine expert. I just know what I enjoy. The food they do is very good as well. Its close enough to everything and tucked away. Great spot that I want to add to my regular hangouts.

Excellent Wine Bar

By Martin C |

The Press Club is an excellent choice if you like good wine. The wine, beer and food selections are extensive. The atmosphere is hospitable with an open space modern decor. Well worth a visit if you like fine wines and beer.

Wonderful vibe-good food and wine

By Rmj20 |

This wine bar was tucked away round the corner from the Four Seasons where we were staying. This was closed for private events for the first couple of days after our arrival. What a fabulous venue! We ordered Mushroom Pizzola and flights of wine followed by a chocolate dessert. All delicious and served by Stephanie our hostess. We visited early evening therefore managed to find a table with ease. Lovely atmosphere. Would recommend

Staff needs customer service training

By RiceWP |

We stopped by for a glass of wine before going off to a friends house for dinner. The interior looked very hip and up scale, however the service was less than expected. It was a Sunday early evening and the place had only a few small groups of patrons. We sat at the bar because we had a time limitation and were ignored until I asked for glass of wine. I don't think any of the staff said anything to us the entire time we were there. There are plenty of other wine bars that I would try before coming back to this one.

Excellent wine bar with nice ambiance

By TravelingJo2014 |

If you are a wine fan, then this is a lovely place to come and select a wine of choice or a flight to sample. We were there after a trade show at Moscone and it was a relaxing destination with an extensive wine list. Comfortable couches in a living room format make it nice for both larger groups and smaller sets. We also ordered a small flatbread to snack on and while it was fine, it was not anything particularly special. The focus of this place was definitely on wine.

Happy Hour

By ldsjpsalpalp |

Stopped in after a movie. Wine selection is great as well as the cheese and charcuterie plates that you can pair with the wine!!

fantastic wine bar!

By MSkinner |

We were only in San Fran for the one night and wanted to make the most of it. We heard mixed things about this place, but decided to give it a try. Glad we did! It has a fantastic atmosphere! Fun, lively, and 'modern'. Service was excellent (we sat at the small square bar), food was really good (deviled eggs and the Prosciutto & Pear Pizza), and the wine of course was amazing. Would 100% recommend this place and we will be back next time we're visiting San Francisco.

Time for reflection after the ball game

By REGards-JNB |

TA City Guides led us a merry dance about 5 blocks North ('report wrong location'!!) but we were soon redirected to Yerba Buena Lane under the Four Seasons Hotel (just south of Market Street between 3rd and 4th Streets) and spent a happy late hour sampling several flights of Californian, Washington and other wines in a modern, yet warm, cocktail lounge with a mix of perimeter counters and lounging islands. Courteous staff kept a discrete yet attentive distance. We can imagine a great vibe at lunchtime and happy hour. Better luck next time Giants!!

Great spot for a nightcap

By Michelle G |

We stopped by for a nightcap after a business dinner in town and really enjoyed the atmosphere. It was really easy to stay for a second glass of wine with great places to sit on comfortable couches or at the bar. Atmosphere is quiet enough to have a conversation without shouting, much more civilised than a club. The location is fantastic - near the Convention Centre, museums and Market street. Excellent for business or an elegant final drink after dinner.

one of my favourite places in SFO

By maxhenryb |

I've been in here a few times now and i love the spacious area and variety of seating options so it fits my mood. small but well put together food menu and excellent wine and spirits list. well worth a visit to wind down at the end of a busy day.

Wonderful wine bar with excellent food

By alohapeter |

We came here on a friends recommendation for a late night dinner and we loved it.Excellent selection of wine and beer served alongside some really delicious appetizer sized food.We enjoyed empenadas, cheese and other treats on the menu. They also had wonderful macaroons for a delicious sweet treat.Friendly engaging bartenders and a fun "trendy" but friendly atmosphere.

Great place to chill out

By Chris Y |

Nice collection of wines.. Check with the bartender what you feel like having and your price range. He got us 3 great selections here

Vibrant, overly loved.

By MarionTanner |

This is a great space, but simply too crowded. It's central to visitors, locals, and many, many tech folks. Nice concept, and they must make bank...a little too much happening (for my taste).

Cool spot for a drink

By Pooja79 |

5pm drinks spot for us and it was great. Big open bar area and we popped in for a fizz and snack. Very nice place and they do happy hour

Best Wine Bar Ever

By Frequent Flyer Chap |

What an absolutely amazing place with a great atmosphere. I prefer it between five and eight pm before the DJ starts!

A blast from the past that keeps getting better with time

By Eric_Kim |

A friend of our suggested we go the Press Club for drinks after dinner. We walked in and immediately I was enamored with this place and its history. The service was excellent and the cocktails were spot on. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys are more chill atmosphere where you can actually hear and talk to your friends you haven't seen for a long time.

Average wine and subzero service

By Arnoud H |

Nice location and great interior design. Service was below expectations with grumpy young women clearly not interested. Wine wasn't impressive either. Will not return.

Impressive space. Uneven service.

By UnplannedExperiences |

OVERALL: Held a business event for 20+. Modern and clean space design and decor. Drink service good. Food service uneven. SPACE: Able to comfortably accommodate large groups. Spacious and modern with concrete and hardwood design. SERVICE: Food arrived on time but with no plates or utensils for some time. Further cheese and crackers separated at opposite ends of the table so people at one end were never of the other existing.

Wine bar also serving small plates

By SDSUGRAD |

The Press Club is located in a well-decorated downstairs space just off Market Street. It is a very large space that is well-divided to still feel intimate. A live DJ spinning music added to the modern-style, but the music was kept low enough to encourage conversation. My husband & I don't actually drink much wine, so I don't have much to say about the wine bar portion of Press Club, other than that the wine list seemed to be updated seasonally & wasn't very long -- seems like they go for seasonal selections rather than quantity of choices. We went here for a lighter dinner on a friend's recommendation. They have a small menu of small plates -- appetizers, salads a few entree-ish plates, and some desserts. My husband & I shared a few things. The meatloaf sliders were adorably cute and fairly tasty, though way too small. The bacon caramel popcorn was a good idea though not quite as well executed as it could have been. The three cheese pizzetta had a thin crust and a bit of heat from some pepperonchini. Overall, the food was presented very well, and was fairly tasty, though not quite perfect. The prices felt about right for the upscale nature of the restaurant and for the area in general, though a little high concerning how little food we actually were served. The staff was attentive when needed, but not at all obtrusive. We were told to seat ourselves, and it did take a while for anyone to come to serve us.

wonderful evening out

By stephen g |

went here early evening. it was very busy with the after work crowd. they are a specialist wine bar and have lots of wine available by the glass or bottle. they do wine flights where you get a decent taster of three wines, which is what we tried. the wines were amazing. we also had some of the food they do which was fantastically tasty and went well with the wine. the atmosphere and the setting was great, it was a very stylish place. the staff were great too and made sure we were looked after.

Depth of Sommelier knowledge is okay.

By VineBuzz |

They don't have enough sommeliers for a wine bar of this size and the crowds that they draw. Prices per glass are high, and far too few wines-by-the-glass are available. The acoustics are hideous.

Wonderful Wine

By Susan S |

the perfect ending to any day is a stop at the Press Club - great selection of wines. The staff know what they are talking about and offer great recommendations. This is also the perfect place to end a business meeting.

Little drinky

By Vanessa P |

Checked this out and was impressed with the selection of wine, snacks and very friendly staff. A very relaxed atmosphere, for intimate evening or groups. Definitely worth a visit

To flee

By Anne L |

Average of 2 out of 10 elsewhere. Able to flee, average age 18, aggressive and en route kids who verbally assault a 71-year-old lady, who tries to grope her 29-year-old granddaughter who is with her boyfriend and the guard who does not react. We're leaving with a bottle unopened. ...horrible party, weary, small, unfriendly teenage music. Long live mills open another discotheque because this place is more a daycare for aggressive kids in unsupervised ruts against the backdrop of boom boom boom Infinite

absolutely enchanting

By linisima |

loved the atmosphere, not over the top, just right enough: perfect lighting to make it warm, perfect layout to sit around and great selection of wines and bites to eat. The perfect place to start the night or meet after work. Classy, chic but not over pretentious, a cool place to visit in the city.

Cool Atmosphere Good Food

By DDG609 |

Excellent experiences here. We were a bit older than their normal crowd, but we were greeted with smiles and good service. Nice wine special during happy hour and terrific appetizers. Really loved the deviled eggs with bacon and the cheese tray. We enjoyed the music and the upbeat feel of the place.

Great venue for private event

By Heather M |

Just attended private event there for about 100 people - it was terrific. Great way to mingle, talk at leisure, try a bunch of different wines and food. Great servers and they tried very hard to get a football game on for us where they ended up buying the nfl package to do so. I think this would be a great place for any large group party.

Great location and outstanding selections

By es_in_tx |

Had wine with friends after dinner in San Francisco. There were a number of great selections. Outstanding service. We arrived about 45 min prior to closing and they allowed our group to stay well over an hour later. Lots of great seating. Perfect for a party or socializing.

Love it here

By Michelle J |

They have a good selection of wines and flights. I really like how the venue is really big with plenty of seating.

Great place for after work drinks

By BrendonDunn78 |

Great atmosphere, wide range of wines and beers, fantastic food selection make this a great place to stop for after work drinks.

I am very disappointed with the apathy shown to us (customers) by the people operating this resturant.

By adie82002 |

My husband and I went to San Francisco for vacation in March. We stopped by the Press Club for wine tasting on March 17th. Before we left we ordered three bottles of wine. We didn't want to take them on the plane, so they offered to ship it for us. They said it would be at our house by the end of the following week. It was two weeks and we didn't receive the wine. My husband called on April 2nd and someone at the Press Club told him the wine didn't leave the warehouse yet. The person said he will have it shipped and send an e-mail with the tracking number and also a free bottle of wine. This was never sent. My husband called again on 4/12 and left message with Jennifer Lipski (Manager). She never called back. I called on 4/13 and left message with Jennifer. Of course, no call back. I called on 4/14 and spoke to Ray. He said it was never shipped and couldn't give me a good reason why. I told him to cancel my order and return my money. He said he will ship a free bottle of wine, but it is 6/15 now and still no wine. It is a shame because the wine we ordered was terrific we wanted to share it with some friends.

Great concept but didn't enjoy the wine.

By indigosativasis |

A nice lounge to meet up with friends. The tastings are very generous, so don't order too many at once. Tell the server what flavors you like and ask for recommendations instead of ordering blindly from the menu.

Cool spot with a nice atmosphere

By Ebony |

We came here for drinks before dinner. There was a live band which was really nice. I do believe this wine bar needs to work on their service a bit. Ours was not bad but we did have to flag one down a couple of times. We bought a bottle and got the other half off so that was awesome. Indecisive if we’ll return but definitely try it out if you’re around the area.

Absolute disgrace - old 80's hotel lobby decor meets exorbitantly overpriced wine and food

By savvyamsterdamtraveller |

At the recommendation of our concierge, we went to the Press Club as we are avid wine lovers. Upon arrival, we were falsely greeted by the hostess/cashier who abruptly asked us for our credit card. Being first time clients, we asked why, where we were briskly explained that we were to use the Press Club card she gave us to keep track of our orders and that our total bill would be paid upon exit. Without any further explanation of how their concept works, we went downstairs to the main bar. The main bar, in actuality, is a very confusing maze of individual bars, each one representing a different wine producer from whom you can order the wines they are promoting and a "Press Club" bar, where you can order a selection of wines from the very same producers (have no clue what the difference is, as this too was not explained) as well as order food. Not knowing what to do, we took a seat nearby the Press Club bar, and after waiting 10 minutes for some signs of life, my partner asked the bartender how things worked. He was kind to send a serve to us, who did nothing further to explain the concept. We placed our order, inclusive of a plate from their charcuterie which from the menu seemed very appeasing. Glasses delivered, we took a sip and in all honestly had to hold back from spitting out. Both wines were not up to par, being far from what they should have. I am a chef and sommelier and despite my professional experience, anyone with a good nose would have come to the same conclusion. I commented to the quality of my wine, and received the response "It's supposed to taste like that. But you can talk to the producer over there," (pointing at one of the other bars). Charcuterie selection arrives and another shock. On the menu it seemed that a wonderful selection of salumi, prosciutto, etc. would be served when in actuality a miniscule sampling of each was plated. All for the bargain price of $8. If I served wine and food like this at those prices, offering disgraceful service (which you are forced to tip on as it is included in the bill) as the Press Club, it would be a miracle if I were to sustain my business for the long term. I've informed our concierge at our hotel not to make the mistake of sending their guests there. Not unless they want to maintain their good reputation.

Great Place for a Party

By Thomas V |

We went to a party/reception here and found there space very hip and cool. No experience with the food. Good drinks.

Nothing like it in NM

By KipMyKool |

Being from El Rito NM, I have never experienced anything like the Press club. I didn't even know they made wine in Italy, but they do, and it's pretty darn good. The French wine is pretty good too. I probably should not have worn my hat and boots because I got a lot of looks from the gender that I would have preferred not to get looks from. However, apart from that it was a great experience and the cheese was good too. Stay Golden

Fantastic food

By D P |

We were there for a business function during RSA and I have to say the food we were given was truly delicious. The drinks of a very high standard and the staff amazing. I would willing go back to try more on my own or even hold a function here myself!

Amazing Wine List

By Jennifer R |

This is the place to go if you are a wine drinker - completely posh atmosphere, excellent service and wine selection can't be beat. I did the "Usual Suspects" flight and had the stuffed squash blossom appetizer, which was divine!

Fun, hip, modern, romantic

By kaecher |

This place was a great find. Got a recommendation from hotel lobby. I didn't find this place on yelp or TA. Great lounge and great for a date

Great Evening

By Nicholas M |

Attended a private party on 9/20 at the Press Club. The food was very good, but my favorites were the Mary’s chicken and pumpkin seed empanada -- and the local zucchini and ricotta empanada.

Great Wine Vibe

By djmontano |

This trendy wine haunt, just off Union Square, is a popular spot for after office hour imbibing and mingling. I love that they regularly feature different wineries in the California region. The truffled popcorn is addicting and go quite well with a number of wines. Staff is friendly and upbeat, the music, hip.

Nothing to Really Like Here

By thomasfS7098OK |

Semi-nice place to get ripped off in downtown SF. Some wines served by the glass apparently sit too before getting finished. Had Caprili Rosso di Montalcino 2014 sangiovese ($18 for 5 oz pour) which is generally is a good one. Pour at Press Club was totally disgusting and waitresses don't care. I guess ones has to just take their chances when they select. The pours are very small as well, especially for the very premium prices they charge. NEVER AGAIN ! ! !

Hip bar with a wide variety of wines and wonderful snacks

By Tve2012 |

The spacious downstairs cellar is a cool place to go to, with lots of different possibilities to sit in a small or larger group. They have an extensive wine list, and you can also buy wine to take home at a 30% discount of pricelist. The snack menu we tried various snacks and they were all great! The service was very pleasant, nice people.

Service Please

By Yog-Sothoth |

I met my wife here recently for drinks before going to the big movie theater on 4th Street. I had been a couple of times for alumni events. Good wines, tasty nibbles, marred by one of the least friendly bartenders in San Francisco. Made me wonder if I were still in California. Made me wish we had gone to Dave's dive bar around the corner.

Good wine selection + comfy seating = Press Club

By TravelgalCathy415 |

If you like wine or want to try some nice wines, this is a fun place to do it. It's in San Francisco so expect big city prices: a glass of wine will run $11+. The types of wine and vintners is much better than at your typical grocery store, so don't expect to see Sutter Home White Zin on the menu. Every Thursday a different vintner leads a free wine tasting at 6 pm. If you're looking for a place to congregate as a group, you can reserve an area in advance. The place fills up after work - I was there on a Thursday and Friday.

A wine lovers dream...

By Jeanette K |

Great location off of Union Square with a number great wines by the glass... The service is impeccable and staff know their stuff. They are happy to recommend and are easily able to answer any questions you may have about any wine. We were here on 2 occasions during a recent trip and had different servers both times so it was not a fluke, staff are very well trained and knowledgeable. I would recommend this to anyone looking for good wine, cool atmosphere and great service.

Nice place good vibe

By RunningM |

My husband and I stopped by on a whim before a dinner reservation while staying in SF over the holiday weekend. We were greeted by our server and invited to choose our seats. There is an awesome selection of wine, seating is comfortable with seating groupings to accommodate parties of 2 or 14 (or more). Would be very fun for a Corp. event. Lighting is perfect! The right place to take a date or meet a friend. Would recommend to anyone.

My favorite wine bar in the city

By ichiji |

This place is a bit tucked away on a walk street between Market Street and the Metreon. The wine list is excellent, and the food is perfect. The cheese plate is fantastic. It gets a bit loud on weekend nights with the DJ, but other times, it is peaceful and lovely. Pretty but comfortable decor.

Spent time at the Press Club quietly celebrating a birthday with a bottle of sparkling cabernet sauvignon. Had a great relaxed time at the lounge area. It's a huge bar and plenty of place to sit with soft lounge music. Just off Market Street and hence great accessibility too.

Unexpectedly great food

By Kevin V |

We were in San Francisco attending a convention near Union Square and found this place in a search for nearby wine bars where we could get a bite to eat and enjoy some wine. The wine bar (really more a lounge) is very elegant and spacious in a prime location so we were expecting sticker shock. We ordered a plate of charcuterie and a cheese sampler and a bottle of wine. The prices were indeed steep (but good luck finding good wine anywhere in the US that you can drink on the premises at an affordable price). However the portions were huge. The charcuterie and cheese came out on trays not plates, plus plenty of great bread. And they had the finest quality meat and cheese. This was plenty of food for dinner for three of us! The wine list is huge and varied, not just California wines. We ended up ordering a second bottle, stayed three hours and had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

Large, loud, lively bar

By Lorne29 |

This large downstairs bar was nearly filled on a relatively early (before 7) Friday evening. We found a place near the back. We (party of three) enjoyed our drinks (a glass of wine, a beer, and a beer sampler) and were able to make conversation even though the bar was loud with patrons talking and music playing. The server was attentive and prices were reasonable. The bar also offers hors d'oeuvres but we passed since we planned to go to dinner next.

Knowledgeable hospitality

By Travels_too_much_99 |

We have been here twice during our stay in San Francisco. For me the metric is: "would I return"... the answer an unequivocal "Yes". The choice of wine is mind blowing, the list is very diverse. It features old and new world. The staff is very knowledgeable, and very pleasant. On our return, we were recognized, which in SF is not a given. So the wine is great, so is the staff... In addition, the food is of good quality. It matches with the wine. All-in-all, a very professional and hospitable place. Am sad I will not be able to return any time soon.

Very active wine bar

After work crowd is plentiful. Great wine selection and beautiful setting. A small tip is that the tables you come to when first going down the steps, are reserved after 5:30... go straight back past the bar to a quiet sitting area...

A classy venue with a Speak Easy flare!

An enchanting establishment located beneath the ground level which adds to the charm of enjoying what the local and international vineyards have to offer. A perfect place for a more sophisticated gathering.

Good set up but...

By Jacques M J |

Just came from a corporate event, the atmosphere was great and the staff was supet friendly and professional. They were very attentive to your needs. My personal taste, a place like that would have been much better located on top of the building with open air. Overall, great place.

First visit and it was good!

By JPL93 |

Just arrived in San Francisco and a bit jet lagged - left Dublin at 9.30am and arrived SFO 12.30pm! Came across this restaurant and recalled it's name from somewhere - it was really good. Very clean and busy atmosphere, Attentive service. Great food (only snacks as early in the afternoon). Perhaps a little expensive but I thought it was worth it.

Perfect for quick drinks

By Lucia M |

I was there with my friends for happy hour so the place wasn't too crowded. The ambiance was very nice with nice background music so I didn't have to raise my voice to talk. I'd go there again for sure.

After work Happy Hour

By sooji38 |

Conveniently located near the business district, their unassuming store front has a relaxed, simple and elegant ambiance downstairs. There is a wide selection of drinks and small plates to get your evening transitioned from work mode. Hang out with fellow officemates or a bunch of friends. There is a bar area, some tables and sofas by the wall if you want that home vibe feeling. Good starting point before hard core dinner elsewhere. Great place to meet people and the noise level is not bothersome like other places where your conversations are drowned out by chatter from the room.

A place with a buzz in the heart of San Francisco

By vamdirect |

Visited after work on a Friday. They have only wines and beers so whisky drinkers will be disappointed. The ambience is amazing. A large number of people were enjoying and there was a nice vibe. Its large space and multiple bars makes it a convenient even if you don't book for drinks,

Always a good time

Press Club is a great place to bring friends and all in all, a great wine bar. The atmosphere is great and they make it easy to make a reservation.

Swanky place

By atshannon1 |

I had a few drinks at the Press Club with some friends. I really liked the atmosphere, which was both swanky but not over the top, along with the ample bar height spaces to share a drink. The servers were nice as well. The only drawback was the price - drinks are far from cheap, but I guess that's to be expected for a classy wine bar in the heart of SF. Great place to both meet colleagues and take a date - I'll surely go back.

Great wine

By Sid K |

Fun. Maybe a bit touristy. Great wine. Great tasting set-up. Worth a visit.

Wine and Apps Only

By jdohare |

Have been here a few times and finally decided to write a review. They really do have a good selection of wines from both California and France, yet they are weak in their selections from Italy and I don't recall seeing any wines from Australia on the list. They have a number of beers on tap but it's kind of insulting to pay $10 for a 12 oz. glass of Dogfish Head Double IPA or $9 for a Drake's Pale Ale. Apps are OK, nothing to write home about, the cheese selections are good though. This place is definitely more of a social upscale environment, they bill themselves as having a sophisticated atmosphere. Fun place to visit and people watch, yet more limited than I expected from a wine perspective. If you go here for the wine and cheese you'll be OK, the food and the beer are a bit disappointing, probably won't go back.

Mixer

By Steven D |

First time at the press club for mixer and was quite impressed with the space and layout. The drinks selection was nice on both the wine list as well as the beers. The appertizers were excellent and enjoyed the very nice staff.

Attended 2 private events

By hipquest |

Since I attended private events the main thing I can say is they have a wonderful, friendly staff. If I lived anywhere near I'd have my parties there. The appetizers provided at the events were very good to excellent.

Enjoyable

By Amy G - Mama Goose |

Hard to find a seat it was supper packed. Pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and unbelievable wine list. Had a very nice salad with thinly sliced apples, very tasty. The crowd was mostly 30 something. Really liked the layout of the bar.

Wonderful

By Sue B |

After spending all day working a conference we stopped here for a bit of respite. Beautiful and relaxing. Tremendous wine list and small bites on a Sunday. Happy hour bottles $70 and up are half price. We enjoyed a Mushroom pizzette was savory and a selection of 4 cheeses with perfect accompaniments and our 2014 Kistler!

Get the buzz of downtown lifestyle

By Peter P |

I had heard that The Press Club had amazing wine selection, great food and an incredible ambience. Well they were right. The staff know their wines and are helpful in pairing. The food was equal to the wines. I had tuna tartare followed by a goats cheese. I tried a Russian River Chardonnay and then. Napa Cab with the cheese. H'mmmm what a great way to catch up on emails.

Excellent wine by the glass selection

By Alex G |

Good location for this wine bar: close to Union Square and Moscone Center. Terrific wine selection by the glass, and not just CA, but good choices from Italy, France, and Spain. Cool, eclectic atmosphere, nicely designed place. Food choices are less inspiring. Small plates are decent, but nothing extraordinary. Enjoyed the whole experience, good place to hang out.

Very attentive service

By ben a |

A group of friends reserved a table for a surprise b day party for a friend and they allowed us to deliver balloons during closed hours which was really convenient. Our waitresses checked in with us constantly to make sure our drinks and waters were as full as we wanted them to be. Background beats from the DJ and an elegant setting made this a great hangout spot with friends

Very cool

By jacquelinem449 |

We went there on a Saturday evening after a full day of conference and were delightfully surprised by the ambiance and the friendliness of the waitresses. The Prosecco was delicious and the mini beef sliders just fit the bill: scrumptious! A must go whenever in San Francisco.

Exquisite Wine Bar

By BCtravels |

We met a friend here during our SF trip. It's below ground level and a really big space. The decor is quite stunning lots of wood, leather and great lighting. It's a wine lover's dream with a great selection of world wines. The service is excellent almost a little too good as we were frequently asked by 2 waiters if we wanted anything else. We tried a few snacks which were great. Prices are slightly high with most glasses in the $12-18 range but during happy hour of 5-6pm there was $3 off a glass of wine. Nice place to get dressed up and visit.

Bad service

By Trinibfftravels |

2 stars for the servers. My husband and I had a reservation at 4 pm on Friday and arrived on time and we were seated at our table. We ordered a bottle of Rośe and the cheese platter. Everything seemed fine, however our original server went on a break and a gentleman proceeded to pick up her tables. To make a long story short; we asked for the check got it from the guy and payed +tipped 20% w/cash and then left. We get to the top of the stairs and our original server asked my husband to come with her because “we didn’t pay the bill.” (Untrue) We proceeded to walk downstairs to find her colleague where he explained to her that we indeed paid the bill and he collected the payment (shouldn’t you have started there?) It irks my nerves because not only that happened but some pompous guest asked my husband to put in her order. If you want to remain the exclusive place you’re trying to be you need to treat all patrons the same and train your staff to communicate thoroughly with each other.

Great lively place, nice wines, good bar food

By 186338Marcel01 |

If you want a wine bar with a bit of atmosphere, nice wine selection and good bar food then a great choice. Generous bar portions - have a plate of cheeses or meat with your wine. Helpful, prompt friendly service. A big place downstairs so not one for an intimate night out. TV showing sports. They obviously cater for events as a few going on but it didn't spoil it for me.

Amazing Service and Superb Bites & Beers Pairing

By GCBeachBum |

Leo looked after us with grace & style - we sampled several craft beers and enjoyed the Charcuterie thoroughly! Their weekend wine specials are something to take full advantage of before it stops! Seriously - this place is very very good, excellent even!

Cool place with great vibe

By TravelandLearn_11 |

Great place to enjoy some wine with small food platters/snacks (which are a bit overpriced). Come for the atmosphere with friends to have a chat over a glass of wine. Very central location, great décor.

Great energy, lots to chose from for a group.

By Jill D |

I went here with a work group of about 25 and it was great. The service was good. There were many drink and wine choices. The seating arrangements were very nice for a group. There was bar seating as well as conversation pit seating which was ideal for us. The decor was contemporary and classy. The entire place was very clean. This is a great spot for a party or gathering.

Great ambience, wines galore

By GranDia |

You'll probably find the wine you want in this place. In case you don't , it's a nice place to visit in San Francisco anyway. Reasonably priced, the wine variety is wide and deep. The place has a relaxed atmosphere, very California.

Great atmosphere

By Kendra D |

I was staying at the Marriott when I found this place directly across from the hotel. The is a great wine bar. This is the first place I've been to where they had wine on tap! They even had a DJ who kept the vibe going. Great food and bar scene in downtown San Francisco.

Perfect place on Sunday Evening

By Kasha |

We have meet there with many of our European friends -it was perfect bar in a great location. Wine choice was impressive and the venue was lovely designed. Can really recommend it.

Found it hard to leave

By Joe O |

We went here for a pre dinner drink, which ended up being 3-4 pre dinner drinks and deciding we would have our appetisers here. This bar was a shock, the sheer size and sound once you come in the door was beyond expectations and it was packed. However even with the crowd we managed to get a table. The wine choice was excellent, though the very fine Albarino that we had was the last bottle, which is always a bit of a disappointment. The Compania wine more than made up for it. Believe it or not the popcorn is excellent and well worth having with a drink, as were the nuts. Food, Tapas style, was excellent, generous portions. We will be back...

Atmosphere

By Max K |

A great wine bar located just off Union Square. A great place to go to sample some of the regions wines and small plates. I recommend doing a flight to taste the difference between US and European wines. It is an authentic experience offering California's finest wines and beers. I will definitely be back.

Happening wine bar

By JeanG |

This is not a place to come for entree-size food, but rather a place to meet after work, the theater, a group celebration, and private parties. It is mainly a wine bar/lounge that has quite a number of wines by the glass, with a few "on tap" available as a glass, half, or full carafe. In addition, there a numerous bottles with only a few under $40, the rest more in the $45-65 range, with many much higher. There are flights of wine available, as well as beer flights. The beer menu is also larger than in many bars. Do not expect to get cocktails here. An interesting aside is that you can purchase a bottle to take home for 30% off the list price. For food, there are a variety of small plates such as duck confit, kale, and a sunchoke pizzetta, charcuterie, and cheese plates that I found quite good. Despite being there solo, I was shown to a place at the bar and felt the staff was solicitous despite my being solo. Warning: the place is very loud, so don't expect intimate conversation.
