Family dinner 2019

Awesome place for dinner! Food delicious and friendly staff. Delicious eggplant. Will return next time we are in the city.

Best bread ever!

By David S |

We found this restaurant on Yelp while on vacation and it turned out to be a lucky choice. They have a small parking lot. That’s the end of the minuses for Prima Pasta. The outdoor patio was not open the day we were there but it, along with an authentic Italian dining room provide the beginning of a wonderful experience. Staff was friendly, fast, and accommodating. And the bread……..the bread. I can’t begin to describe it. It just seems to be regular old Italian bread, cut up into small pieces and slightly buttered, but as soon as you bite into it, you wish you could just order a giant plate as your main course! Our family tried three different dishes as well as the Caesar salad. All of the dishes were excellent. The lettuce was super fresh, the Alfredo sauce was perfect, the chicken was tender, and the sausage in my sausage and pepper dish was just spicy enough. They offer six or seven dessert options, but we were just too full to try. The prices were average to maybe below average. If we lived in Houston we’d be regular customers. I just can’t say enough good things about them.

Great Italian cuisine !

By mrslisa_ger |

Beautiful decor and outdoor area. The food is very delicious and authentic. Great pasta and huge portions.

No wonder they have been in business for 25 years!!!

By SG58 |

We went to this restaurant because it was close to the Hotel where we were staying, but also based on the Trip Advisor reviews. We were there fairly close to 7 p.m., and concerned we would find a table, because the parking lot was fairly full. Not to be disappointed, there were plenty of tables available, and we were promptly seated with courteous service. The service continued to be very attentive and helpful with good suggestions about the menu. I had the Fettucine Campagna with grilled shrimp, along with a Caesar Salad, and my dining companion had the Grilled Salmon that came with fettucine alfredo & steamed veggies. The garlic bread that came out before-hand was ok. Nothing spectacular - but actually I was glad of that - because I don't like to fill up on bread before the main course. Our waiter, brought out a sample of the Fountain of Youth, which is a conglomeration of more ingredients than I could possibly remember! It was an excellent compliment to the salad, and was fantastic as a standalone, as well. We ended up each buying a jar of it to take home! I have never tasted anything like it, and had so many healthy ingredients in it, it was properly named!! :-) Both of our entrees were superb. The grilled salmon was a very good portion, and was excellently grilled. My grilled shrimp was grilled to perfection, and even had the tails removed! (A rarity - believe me!) The fettuccine tasted homemade, as did the alfredo sauce, and was not heavy or thick like most pastas or sauces that you get at a "big ticket" restaurant. The prices were very reasonable. The service impeccable. My only downside was because of the outdoor patio, and all of the plants - the "fruit flies" and gnats were kind of annoying because we sat next to the window that goes outside. I honestly - could overlook this because of all of the positives. The owner was onsite, and even the manager (and possibly the original owner of the restaurant?) came by to ensure that we were well satisfied. I travel A LOT for my job, and eat out so many places. This was probably the best meal I can remember in numerous restaurants throughout the U.S. Cozy, inviting, attentive, superior flavors and presentation exceeded my expectations. We're actually going to go back on our last night here in Houston - to enjoy it again!!! Don't pass up the opportunity to visit!

Great Food in a Convenient Location

By John G |

This places is always friendly and welcoming to my friends and family whether we choose to eat in or take out. We have visited several times now, once with the little ones in the family, and had great experiences! The harpist even played Disney tunes for my 2.5 year old great niece. We have enjoyed everything we have ordered, from antipasto to zucchini! Tiramisu is fantastic! The outside with grapevines and mature lime trees is definitely a nice touch! When it cools a bit we will dine al fresco!

Stumped

By Sara H |

I am completely stumped by this reviews of this restaurant. Mediocre Italian food in a kitschy dining area with poor service. This is the only time I've ever been led astray by the TripAdvisor crowd. The food reminded me of a frozen dinner, it was just not good. We won't be back.

Fantastic ... Everything !

By Sharon D |

The food is delicious! We had great service! The menu prices were easy on the pocketbook. The atmosphere was so relaxing. There was even live music. We found Prima Pasta through Siri (This was our first trip to Texas). We would absolutely visit again if we were local!

Date Night!

By Karen B |

Beautiful patio area. Excellent soup, pasta and bread and all at a reasonable price. The service was perfect. This would be a perfect date place!

A Siri "closest restaurant" nice find

By Gary T |

My wife and I were visiting Houston and asked Siri to find the "closest restaurant". About a dozen within a mile showed up. We chose this place based on it having 60 reviews with an average rating of 4. We are glad we did, it is an authentic family run place that on the night we were there had live music. A guy was there singing 60's and 70's songs and he was OK. My wife had Eggplant Parma and I had Spaghetti Meatsauce with an Italian Sausage on the side. The food was good, inexpensive and the service was very good. I should note the place was busy, makea reservation.

Feels like you are in Italy

By CreveCoeurMo |

This is small Italian restaurant. When you step in out of the traffic of Houston, you feel like you stepped into another country. It is quaint and the waiters are very Italian. It is a favorite with my cousins who we were visiting and I can see why. The food and the service were great and the price was very reasonable.

Great Local Restaurant

By brian1403 |

I have lived within walking distance for 7 years, and this is my favorite Italian restaurant in Houston. The restaurant is an eclectic mix of Italian wall murals, live music, friendly staff, "regulars" at the bar, and great food. My wife and I always order the Chicken Parm and Chicken Marsala. I love that they come with fettuccine alfredo instead of spaghetti and red sauce. By the end of the meal we can never tell who made the best decision because they are both so good. This is the place we always bring family when they come to town, the food is always good.

Excellent

By Melissa R |

Was there for a conference and asked the front desk for some suggestions for dinner. I had an angel hair pasta dish and a Caesar salad. Small place with a lot of charm. Great staff. Friendly and attentive. If you are in the area...and in the mood for Italian ..I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Little of Italy

By James M |

Hidden secret offering quaint atmosphere, many selections and large proportions. Family owned. Night we were there had live entertainment

Authentic Italian

By Mark F |

Real good Italian food service was great. Has a family feeling. Like you just saw your long lost cousin from Firenza. No draught beers. Small but decent wine selection. The name does not do justice to the food. Will definitely be back! I am confident this place will be around for years to come.

Superb Italian fare with true charm

By Regina S |

Of course the food was authentic, delicious and generous. But what makes this cute little restaurant stand out is the ambiente generated by the people who live, breathe and love their family business. You just have to experience it yourself!

Great Italian Food

By Joe P |

We visited this restaurant last Friday on recommendation of friends and were very pleased with the quality of the food, the atmosphere, prices, and waitstaff. Highly recommend.

Stand up comedian waiter, burnt appetizer

By Stoup |

Not familiar with the area, a group of girlfriends went in to really grab a glass of vino...we liked the look of all the lights on the exterior and it had an old world feel. It looks like one of those places that has been there for years, Italian. The waiter kept us entertained and I think we also entertained him. We had some good laughs but when our pistachio crusted burned shrimp arrived I knew we needed to take our leave....that first course or app is usually a clue to what the rest of the meal will be like...we tried a some kind of veal/chicken parmesan fried thing but it was poorly prepared as well. Sorry, but maybe the thing to get here is just some spaghetti and meatballs.

The best

By Melissa B |

This is no Olive Garden this is defiantly authentic Italian. Best atmopshere, good pricing and great portions!

Local, best, fresh, friendly, clean, comfortable, service is excellent , great prices

By Sharon S |

What a great find! We were staying in the area, close to MDAnderson and searched restaurants nearby. Such a gem! We arrived just after the typical lunch time and enjoyed a fabulous, well prepared meal. The service, as mentioned previously is stellar. Our appetizer and entrees were spot on. I love the ambience….Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Frank….singing tunes like they should be sang. The murals on the walls are beautiful. They offer outdoor seating and dont miss the garden! They grow and harvest all they can. We will be back for Cancer treatment and this will become part of our routine. The deserts looked fabulous…..I will save room for one next time. It’s LOCAL, they work hard. Support LOCAL restaurants.

Good Food at a good price

By TXRVer09 |

This is a well run family restaurant that is very Italian in every aspect. I especially like anything Alfredo while my wife loves anything parmesan. Everything is always very good. Service is excellent. Prices very reasonable for Houston.

Fast good lunch

By 2fridad |

A friend and I met for a quick quiet lunch so that we could have a serious discussion. The wait staff were respectful, attentive and quick. The meal was good for the price with the establishment centrally located for ease in meeting.

Great rosetta sauce

By mmmartin70TX |

Had angel hair with mushrooms, shrimp and rosetta sauce. Food was very good. Never brought more garlic bread after first basket.

Close to 4*

By Steve N |

We both had Linguine Carbonara without the onions. I would say the reasons why it doesn't get four stars are only a couple, one, the dish was drowning in parsley, which was just far too much, and the other was the bacon, which I think was okay bout could have been better. This is a good restaurant, and the service from the waiters is charming and funny. This is a good place to eat fresh pasta, as our preference to not have onions was easy to accommodate as the dishes were prepared freshly.

Rainbow Salad Amazing

By Justrighty |

Ordered from Prima Pasta's catering menu on recommendation from a friend. The 'Rainbow Salad with Grilled Chicken' was affordable and delicious! Healthy and tasty and fresh and well received by a committee with men and women. Service was easy and prompt.

Great family place

By taotravelmonster |

Nice family place; good value for your money. Casual and low-key. Good sunday dinner spot with the family.

Very good Italian at a good price

By Bryan D |

I visited this place on the strength of Trip Advisor reviews and was not disappointed. A very welcoming staff and quite a few "regulars" were there. I went with the chicken pram as was very satisfied.

Soo delicious

By Eliza M |

This was my familiy's and mine first time here and we were absolutely delighted. We went for lunch and ordered a personal pepperoni pizza deliciously prepared with fresh mozzerella cheese and the lasagna had a perfect blend of italian sausage and sauces and the pasta was perfectly cooked al dente. I had the shrimp alfredo and I made no mistake. The sauce had a beautiful homemade taste with grilled mushrooms and shrimp. We will definitely visit again on our next Houston vacation.

Excellent family owned neighborhood restaurant

By Panangster |

My wife and I have been coming here for around 27 years. The owner and staff are always very nice and accommodating, and the atmosphere is wonderful. Tonight, Sunday, a man and woman duo were singing and playing, and a Nora Jones song was perfect for the subdued lighting. Everything, including desserts, is great, but for me, the standout is the Prima Pasta with shrimp. Thin spaghetti tossed with, if memory serves, olive oil, garlic (not overwhelming - just right), fresh basil, diced tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes, Parmesan (I think), and the freshest, most delicious grilled shrimp I’ve ever eaten. It tastes precisely the way it did in the early 90’s. We always prefer good mom and pop neighborhood restaurants to chains, and this place fits the bill. There’s also outdoor seating if you prefer. It’s in an upscale area (just South of West University), and while very nice, the place is comfortable, and not the least bit pretentious. Just relax, and enjoy some fine Italian food.

Highly recommend!

By RenLew |

This restaurant is very quaint. The service was great and prices were excellent. The lasagna was delicious. We stopped in during a recent visit to the medical center. Highly recommend!

Lovely evening

By jennyi |

Spotlessly clean. Precious owner. Food was tasty, hot, prompt, reasonably priced. A shining moment during our MD Anderson week. Would visit again.

Late night dinner

By jhcc1 |

My husband and I left MD Anderson looking for an open restaurant late evening. My son had suggested a drive down Kirby - good opportunities for good food, he said. We stopped at Prima Pasta. Service was prompt, informed, suggestions were excellent, and the food was extremely good. Especially since we werethe last couple to dine. We were not rushed and enjoyed a leisurely meal with plenty of attention. Husband claimed the best meatballs and sauce he had ever had. My Angel Hair pasta was perfect and delicate, with the blend of vegetables and spices subtle and not overpowering. Definitely will make it our new spot. Mentioned Thurs thru Sat they have live music... harp, and I didn't catch what else...

Business lunch

By jthwrh |

Outstanding lunch not crowded at all and was surprised. Our waiter was attentive and polite. Ihad the prima pasta with shrimp or you could have chicken and it was outstanding. The right portion size. The only feedback i would say is that it was heavy on oil so i would definitely order the next time i would just ask to go light on the oil. Awesome thanks!

Late Night Gem

By DriftinCowboy |

Found this jewel late one night. Wife had chicken parmesan and I had the eggplant and a Cesar's salad. Mine was excellent and finished off the wife's and it was on the list for the next visit. Wife is already talking about going back when she comes back to visit again

Very good

By TSErney |

My husband and I ate here for our anniversary. The food was very good and the only deduction was for the service. The waitress was very nice....but not as attentive as we would have liked.

Perfect Dinner - TripAdvisorTrusted Reviews

By Sally M |

We both needed TLC in the food department, as we navigated a health nightmare of personal uncertainty in the medical district. Thank goodness we looked to Trip Advisor and found this GEM OF A RESTAURANT nearby. We were greeted immediately upon arrival. The exterior was very inviting with a variety of plants in and around a pleasant outdoor patio with a soothing water feature and little white light strings that festooned the inviting restaurant. A guitarist serenaded diners, and as it was just after Christmas we were seated by a real Christmas tree. Not only was there a mural of Venice, but the arches facing the patio were painted in the trompe l'oeil style. Fresh garlic bread preceded our meal. My husband had "Rogers Favorite" that included scallops, shrimp, and chicken with mushrooms in homemade marinara sauce over angel hair pasta. I had the Rainbow salad consisting of finely chopped vegetables fringed with baby spinach leaves and a wedge of fresh lemon for dressing. The seafood soup (cup) made the perfect accompaniment for a light and nutritious meal. Tasty broth, no skimping on the seafood, and fresh vegetables left no regrets in my selection. Our waiter brought us an assortment of homemade desserts such as tiramasu, italian cream cake, something chocolate, and tempting cheesecake we were too full to indulge. Next time we eat here (and there WILL DEFINITELY be a next time), we won't pass up dessert and cappucino. Dinners average $10 up. I was tempted to order the filet mignon with alfredo pasta and fresh veggies for $25. They also have a bar so I'll have a glass of wine with that, too. DELIGHTFUL RESTAURANT!!!!

Great food and atmosphere

By Rex S |

I had the chicken parmesean and it was delicious. The chicken is covered in a red sauce and it comes with Alfredo on the same plate. Delicious and the service was great. We went on a Monday evening and it was not crowded.

The best Italian option

By gerardo r |

Excellent attention from the staff and the most delicious food, the pistachio shrimp and the primo pasta were delicious and to finish the tres leches cake

Wonderful experience

By chendrix23 |

Late on a Thursday night, after an exhausting day at MD Anderson, we had the most lovely evening here. Sat outside among the trellises and grapevines - tiny lights - fountain - enjoying wine and a delicious meal. The food was terrific and the service was as well - now enjoying the chocolate mousse cake we took "to go" - we'll definitely be back! Thanks Tripadvisor for helping us find this great little jewel.

Cozy Italian hangout with average food and great service

By texas6006 |

Went there because they are one of the very few Italian restaurants that have veggie Lasagna on the menu. It was to celebrate an anniversary. The ambiance with live music was very appropriate for the occasion coupled with great service. The Lasagna was OK (not much veggie compared to cheese). Eggplant Parm was a bit squishy and not so good. Overall, it was a good visit.

Small, charming Italian local eatery

By P S |

Close to Medical Center and Rice U. We had a late afternoon lunch and place was fairly empty except for some large parties. We had great service and the food was delivered promptly. Their special "Prima Pasta" that you can personalize was such good pasta. I added salmon and my husband added grilled shrimp. Both were delicious. Oh, and my husband said he'd go back for more minestrone zuppa. It was so fresh and tasty. And, we splurged on the carbs and enjoyed their complimentary garlic bread. As we exited the parking lot, we observed their garden that explains their fresh produce.

Good Food!

By Sandra1515 |

I ordered the lunch size spaghetti and meatballs and a 10 inch ground beef and cheese pizza. My husband had the chicken tenders. Food was just the right size. Enjoyed the food and the Italian atmosphere. Beautifully painted walls with Italian town look. Wouldn't know you weren't in Italy. The prices were very reasonable.

Decent for sandwiches or...

By Jessica C |

Decent for sandwiches or a little heavier pasta/meat meal. Probably good for lunch if you work in the Med Center area.

Always Amazing

By Shane D |

Everytime we come to Houston this is a must stop place for lunch. The food is amazingly fresh along with a very friendly staff. When we have the opportunity to bring family this is always our first stop. The food and prices are both perfect.

Good food, Generous portions

By Cazzintexas |

We stopped by this nice restaurant before the Garth Brooks concert with our nieces. The restaurant was a little empty so we had excellent service. We all stuck with the dish of choice - pasta and were not disappointed. The servings were generous and the spicing was excellent. The waitress was pleasant and very professional. This is a "come as you are" restaurant - not pretentious and just plain good.

Greatest Italian Restaurant in Houston

By Chicken Man Sam |

Great from walking in, to the appetizer, the entree and the dessert. We had chicken parmesan and a chicken alfredo. Ordered a side of sausage, it's made by a local family and was outstanding. The deserts were great. The tiramisu and tres leche. I highly recommend. All the dishes being delivered looked spot on.

Hits The Spot!

By Nicole B |

I was here yesterday, for a quick meal with a friend, before attending a reception. The atmosphere was calm and the service was polite and attentive. The food was very good, a little too garlicky, for my personal tastes, but still quite palatable. The house merlot paired nicely with my meal. It was reasonably priced and a great stop.

Excellent food and service

By Jonathan P |

Food was outstanding and service was exceptional. I had Shrimp Scampi and my son had chicken Alfredo. Portion sizes were generous and Sarah our service was appropriately attentive

Good food, nice atmousphere, pleasant staff

By FoodLover100 |

We went to this restaurant because others staying at our motel had gone there the night before and enjoyed it. When my wife and I arrived,s we were greeted nicely and shown to a table for 4 although there were only the 2 of us and there were tables for 2.. The atmosphere was very nice with murals painted on some of the walls. My wife ordered penne with rosetta sauce (a blend of marinara and alfredo sauces) $9 and I had penne Florentine which has a tomato based sauce with sauteed mushrooms, onion, bell peppers $12. Portions were large and we both enjoyed our meal and the taste of the other's meal. They had a sign celebrating 25 years and we could understand why. The only thing that marred our visit was the server's tendency to push food. For example when we gave our order the server asked: "What no meat?" Even though we couldn't finish our meals when we asked for our check, we were asked: "Don't you want dessert?" In addition to the very pleasant interior they have a outside dining area mostly enclosed by greenery including grape vines. When we were leaving we overheard a woman thanking a server for an exceptionally kind act which the server replied that she enjoyed doing it. If we have a chance, we will go back because we felt our dining experience was enjoyable. If we have a server again who thinks we can't make our own decisions on what we want to order, we will regretfully scratch this restaurant from our list.

Got pasta

By AUSAGUY007 |

If you like a whole lot of food go here it's enought to eat for three days breakfast lunch and dinner

I ordered delivery late night

By CharlieinTexas |

I ordered delivery late night a few nights ago. Food arrived hot, and although not fantastic, was good. Calamari was underwhelming, however, too much breading. The Caprese salad was excellent and a nice portion. I really enjoyed the shrimp and pasta. The shrimp were nicely grilled, but I thought there could’ve been a few more shrimp.

Delish Chicken Parm !

By YPM |

This was my first time at the restaurant. I dropped in last night to order food to-go. I ordered the large pan of chicken parmesan for 6-10ppl, which comes with garlic bread. During our wait, the staff, esp. Mr. Cameron Basil, was friendly. They answered all of our questions and offered us something to drink while we waited. We were so pleased with the service and the food. The entrée was so tasty and included lots of chicken. They don’t skimp on the portion here. We will definitely be back. *They have a nice to-go/delivery menu, esp. for large party of 50.

Italy in Houston!

By curtis m |

Prima Pasta is my favorite Italian restaurant anywhere! I have been eating there for 17 years. My favorite dish is the fettuccine del mare with alfredo sauce. Super delicious creamy alfredo sauce over tender pasta with scallops, shrimp, salmon, lobster; awwwww yeaaaaa! My wife loves the chicken marcella, my son just old fashioned spaghetti and meat balls. All the food is awesome! The owner is always there and treats everyone like old friends. Service is great! I highly recommend it to everyone!

Give Prima Pasta a try

By whollows |

We decided to have Italian food so we gave Prima Pasta a try. Looks like its family owned and run business. It has a rustic italian decor. Service was attentive and efficient. I had the eggplant parmesan and enjoyed it. I would definitely come back again.

A Taste of Italy

By WildRover711 |

If you're looking for home-style Italian cuisine in a warm family atmosphere, Prima Pasta is the place! Step into another world for lunch and/or dinner with Roman village murals, personable service, and live weekend music featuring a guitarist and violinist. My husband, son and I enjoyed chicken piccata, grilled salmon, and spaghetti with meat sauce -- all fresh, well-seasoned and attractively presented. As we savored chocolate mousse cake, the violinist serenaded our autistic son who was dazzled by the performance. We'll be back during our next trip to Houston. Our compliments to a fine establishment maintained by the owner now for 30 years.

Real Italiano!

The Real McCoy

I come to Houston every 3-4 months and found this place based on the reviews on Trip Advisor. Reviews were "spot on"! Small, quiet, clean, reasonable prices and authentic. This place will become a regular for me while in Houston,

February 2024 MDA

By gaharris_99 |

My visit to Prima Pasta 🍝 was a DISAPPOINTMENT. Order some egg plant and was not what I had on my previous visits. It was mushy and had a burnt taste to it. Traveled 6 hours with great hope to enjoy egg plant. The place is pleasant and staff friendly.

Local favorite, good food, good value

By yessamme |

This place is a favorite of some friends of mine. It is okay food and a good price. Not sure why the are so crazy about it. But I have always enjoyed it with them. Decor is amateurish. Staff are nice enough. Seem to be slot of regulars in there. I guess after I go there a few more times I will finally understand the appeal.

Authentic Italian Hole in the Wall

By Walker V |

Quaint, and familial, this is a nice place to avoid the Hustle and Bustle of the Medical Center. Its only a minute south of the Village, but you dont have to suffer thru any of the pretensions of the area.

A Delightful Evening

By kansasreddog |

A low key low evening at Prima Pasta with friends whom we have not see in a couple of years. Looking for a restaurant where conversations are not diluted with godawful noise we chose Prima Pasta The various pastas dishes ordered were fine and the service was quite adequate. I lived in Italy for 4 years and find this restaurant does as well, food wise, as any of the higher end restaurants in Houston and I've tried quite a number of them. I think it's difficult to find, or expect to find Italian food in the U. S. to compare with that served in Italy, therefore one must alter one's expectations somewhat, but I find this small restaurant capable of providing good food at a reasonable price. We enjoy Prima Pasta and encourage others to give them a try !

Ignore the fast-food-looking sign...this place is great!

By Bruce W |

Wanting a comfortable, solid, Italian restaurant - you know, comfort food! - I almost passed this one by. However, due to my stomach grumblings I decided to try it. Glad I did!!! The interior decorations, lighting - the whole atmosphere - is exactly what I want when I go Italian. The food was perfect - and slightly, but nicely, different. My staple is salmon on fettuccine alfredo. Yep - they had it. but the salmon was not cut up and sparsely crumbled in with the pasta. There was a whole piece probably 5 oz or more, and toasty hot from being freshly cooked. A side of not overdone veggies was on the plate. Nicely done. My only complaint was that they do not offer anchovies for their caesar salad...sacrilege, I say!!

Best lasagne in Houston!

By WorldTripperTexan |

Best deal on delicious lasagne. Other dishes are good too. Lots of neighborhood regulars enjoy coming here. I like the quaint murals and cozy atmosphere! Let the owner know if you have any concerns. He seems very eager to please, although finding help that feel the same way is very rare! Most of our service has been fine so far though. Best thing is location near Medical Center and Rice Village, at Holcombe & Kirby, but parking is free and much easier than parking in the Village! This is a nice quiet respite from a very hectic and crowded part of town!

Quaint and authentic ....but service is terrible

By Terri G |

I really wanted to like this restaurant. I've tried it 4 times but unfortunately EVERY time we've visited (even when there is barely anyone in the restaurant), the service is terrible. It's like we have inconvenienced them by coming in their restaurant and taking them from their seats at the bar where they chat. We have been looking for a nearby alternative to Candaleries (just across the street) but this isn't going to be it. The food is definitely more authentic but it is a bit heavy.

Worst Italian restaurant in the world

By Miguel K |

I believe this is the type of restaurant that harms trip advisor. It has a good rank and most of the comments are positive. I don't understand how someone can make a good review out of this place. Atmosphere is not good, but who cares, service is not good but I also don't care. Food is disgusting and that I do care. Please don't come here. You deserve better food!

Awesome Tilapia

By Carl W |

Only 2 at our table. I had the Tilapia with pasta. It was great! I am not a pasta person, but loved this combination. The pasta sauce was awesome. Other person at table also had a great meal. Price was not high either. Friendly staff and nice music. If in Houston again, we will return.

Outstanding in every way!

By Jane O |

I enjoyed the ambiance and fruit trees in the parking area. The murals transported me to a beautiful Italian garden. The menu features a variety of specialties. I devoured the Chicken Piccata. The capers added the perfect texture and bite. The wine list was extensive. I chose 15 Hands Merlot but I will be trying a different varietal each time. The service was excellent. The portions were hearty enough to save for later. They have live music in the evening and prepare yourself for a wait time if you visit on the weekends. Lunch hour during the middle of the week is the best time to avoid the crowds.

Great Italian Food

By Arthur E |

The Italian Food is so very good and prepared right. The servers are so attentive and keep checking by to see if you need anything even refills. Price is in the reasonable range. Also sometime they have a young lady playing the Harp. She is great with some very beautiful music.

The Italian Restaurant of Childhood

By pickyfamilyreviews |

The only reason we ate at this establishment is because we arrived in Houston well after the dinner hour, it was near our hotel, and I didn't want to eat dinner and breakfast at the Marriott. However, there are lots of reasons to make a special trip to Prima Pasta. The whole place feels old style and reminded me of an Italian restaurant I might have visited when I was a child--the kind with home style pasta dishes, red and white checked table clothes, and that left the whole family feeling happy. After a day of eating carbs and fruit on a plane, I had the grilled chicken with vegetables, which was very satisfying. My husband had a delicious seafood pasta. The restaurant also has good wines by the glass.

Outstanding Italian food!

By DrVicarious |

These days, there seems like there is an Italian restaurant on every corner (no complaints about that, really). Some are better than others, however, and this one is the best that I have experienced in a long time. Their soups are the best I've ever eaten, and their Pasta Prima (the dish, not the restaurant this time), is a simple dish that I never find anywhere (but have looked and looked for, since I used to be able to get it in another place and time). I found it here, and could not be more pleased. The atmosphere is homey and welcoming. There is also a beautiful mural of Venice on the back wall of the restaurant that is quite stunning. This appears to be a family run restaurant, and that makes it even better. It will be a go-to in our future.

Very good Italian in a neighborly location!

By Shuttrrbug |

My wife and I have driven by Prima Pasta for decades and never dined there. Always curious. So after church one Sunday, we went. This is very good Italian food. We both had the Prima Pasta dish, one with chicken and the other with shrimp. Delicious and recommended! Wait staff is very friendly and attentive to your needs. It appears this restaurant has many loyal patrons for years, the staff seemed to know them. Parking in front, a bit tight but manageable. We will return. Enjoy!

Good Food

By Dan T |

Just good food at a fair price. Staff was helpful and courteous. Watching people come in, you could tell this place has a loyal following with the owner greeting many by name. Try it. It might surprise you.

Wonderful Italian ristorante! Skip the chains!

By Robert |

A fantastic mom and pop style authentic Italian restaurant. My wife’s lasagna was delicious as was my seafood pasta . Wonderful bread and bruschetta. All topped off with a giant slice of scrumptious Italian cream cake. Guitarist/singer Rick Gordon (Tuesdays)added to the warm atmosphere . A meal to remember!

Wonderful! I'll be back when I'm in town!

By nontexan |

We had a coupon, so decided on a whim to stop in for lunch. Cute and cozy diner with a simple yet ample menu; something for everyone... My wife had the Del Mare Pizza, a 10" pizza with shrimp, calamari, scallops, salmon and spinach. I didn't expect I would like the pizza, but it was very good, I would come here again just for that pizza, it was that good. I had their signature lasagne; it was very good... I could really gain some weight if I lived near this place. The staff was friendly and professional, the athmosphere was nice, the prices were very good. I would love to sample the entire menu... They cater and deliver too! Our meal was less than $20 total.

Often times when i have a high stress day, I slide on over and have a moment or two of relaxtion and a serving of being pampered as I enjoy one of many really good italian dishes. My Favorite is the chicken marsala and the cream of brocoli soup..add a appetiser of calamari and one of the many good deserts...and i am recharged for the day. Staff is attentive and friendly,

Prima Pasta

➡ Comfortably snappy casual attire ➡Quaint restaurant, few tables ➡Service is over attentive. 4 of us were visiting, and server kept returning to our table to take our order. If customers have menus in hands, doesn't that mean still deciding? There were empty tables, so wasn't in need of ours. ➡Food is delicious, considerable portions ➡What killed the evening was the "live music." It was WAY TOO LOUD for that small room. Our table was furthest from the "performer", too! We politely requested for it to be lower so we could carry on a conversation. He obliged but for a very short period, then resumed. This was a starving artist playing an acoustic guitar! SAME TUNE FOR OVER 3 HOURS! He was more concerned about himself instead of the diners. No one was interested in hearing his noise! Good food and nice decor, but the noise killed the experience! ➡only recommend if you're not planning to have any sort of conversation at your table!

Surprise Find of a Good Little Family Italian Restaurant

By Daniel G |

Found this as an alternative to the food at the Medical Center and was very pleasantly surprised. Fresh pastas, salads and fish. We had the chopped rainbow salad, angel hair pasta with olive oil, garlic and shrimp for one meal and tilapia for the other. The salad was fabulous, the pasta and the seafood cooked just to our liking. We will definitely be back. We ate on a Sunday around 4:30 pm and there were several tables occupied by people living in the neighborhood. The inside decor is like a little family restaurant in Italy. The outside is a bit unassuming. Don't be put off by that, the food and service is great. They made us feel like family.

Family Feeling Fresh Food Great Staff

Prima Pasta has been around a long time. Hidden on the East side of Kirby just South of Holcombe behind their lush fruit garden on Kirby. Classic Italian dishes offered. We shared the Rainbow salad, OMG, and the baby hair pasta with shrimp. Portions large enough to share and take some home. Navid, our waiter was polite, professional and attentive. Prices are appropriate for quality and size. Stop in or take out. Dine inside or out.

Nice place for pasta

On a recommendation we stopped at Prima Pasta on Kirby for Italian dinner. I decided to have the Vegetarian Lasagna and my husband had the Beef Lasagna. Both were quite good with plentiful portions. The lasagna was firm with layers of pasta and cheeses. The sauce was tasty but could have been a little spicier. The meal came with complimentary garlic bread. We also ordered a small Margarita pizza but ended up taking that home because we had too much to eat. I also had a side salad. The ambiance is very nice and the background music was perfect for dining. The restaurant was not busy so parking was available. The meals were very affordable and we will definitely come back.

Great atmosphere & food!

Stayed at a hotel nearby & wanted something other than fast food. We saw the sign on building stating they had been in business for 25 yrs. We stopped & it was wonderful! The Chicken Marsala is great along with their fresh crisp salads! They have tomato plants among other plants outside that they maybe use in the salads? We loved it & have been repeat customers over the month. The wait staff is very friendly and courteous as well. There is nothing negative to say for this establishment.

This was a surprisingly good Italian restaurant, we really enjoyed it, had a nice house salad, beef lasagna and our friend had fettuccini alfredo. The waiter was very nice guy, I think Persian/Iranian. Oh yeah and portions are big there!

Very Authentic and Tasty Italian Food

Had a late lunch so the restaurant wasn’t too busy. Looked like a great place to have a romantic dinner. Full bar & great selection of wines. Service was great, full menu with all the Italian favorites. Was a little pricey.
