we are usually in Little Italy for the farmers market or Italian food, so this isn't an obvious choice. It has an authentic pub feel with bar and dining area, so if that's what you are looking for, they offer a nice alternative. My husband is a beer drinker and loves going in there. I'm not a beer drinker and it feels too dark for me, but I appreciate what they have. They have a small outdoor seating area as well.

Been a few years ago and returned this trip to visited twice, once for just a drink and few days later for food and drink. On the first visit the waitress was friendly and helpful and when we went back we ordered the drinks and she said 'it's with no ice, isn't it' Now that's a good waitress (unfortunately, cant remember her name) It was taco Tuesday, so we had taco's, I had fish and the missus had chicken. very good they were too. very enjoyable and relaxing visits, recommended. Don't expect posh fine dinning, just down to earth, decent and good fun atmosphere.

We are from England so enjoyed beer from home and one block from our hotel. We had Fish & Chips for lunch 0 very good.

Arrived between lunch and dinner. Authentic food choices offered here- We ordered the Rueben sandwich and the Bangers & Mash and were not disappointed. I particularly appreciated that the Rueben was served with the dressing on the side - no soggy sandwich here. A variety of beer selections. Enjoyed an afternoon fireside with brews, food and darts on a May-gray day.

Didn't find the service to be overly good. Beer was cold, and the patio lovely...great spot if you have time to wait for the next round.

I rated a little low simple because for the area (Little Italy) the restaurant is just average in comparison to some of the fantastic restaurants nearby. If you're in the mood for some traditional pub fare, this is a great place to go.

Came here for dinner with our son, who was in town for some Navy training. We love a good British pub, but I have to say, this was a bit disappointing. No steak and mushroom pie, and just too much California cuisine. It was also pretty pricey, especially for drinks. Service was a bit of an issue as well...

Stopped here on our first day-nice to sit outside and have a great local beer. Food was average but of course a lot better than most British food. Although there was a meat pie on the menu there was no steak and kidney so we went for fish tacos and a sandwich of the day. Both were good and of decent size. Server was friendly. Food was a bit slow in coming considering there were few people there as it was afternoon.

We went there for Trivia and we're very surprised by how much fun it was. The good is good, the portions are huge and the service is good. It's really good if you're looking for that Good ole Irish Pub.

good variety of food, good service, but slow on food. patio seating that was very nice. The food was very tasty, but a little high priced

So we got here early today for the Barcelona-Real Madrid soccer game. Being from out of town we were excited to find a table with great seating for the game. Just before it started the game turned to NCAA playoffs (and why wouldn't it with San Diego playing?). We got pushback from our waitress when we asked if the channel could be changed to the game. Apparently the 'back room' is where soccer is aired. Not where we were sitting. A few of us went to the bar (which turned to more than a few as many incoming patrons were wearing soccer jerseys and scarves) to plead with the bartender who again gave pushback. (As I mentioned, SD is also playing at the moment.) The bartender in the end changed the channel, and the house cheered and applauded. Currently the game has been on for 62 minutes and ALL the TVs are showing the game. Good on the bartender. Thank you, Princess Pub and Grille!

My brother and I stopped by last night for a drink and to watch a football game. Looked at the menu and saw fish tacos. Thought that was an odd choice for an English Pub to offer Mexican food. The bartender, Kevin, stated that the fish tacos are exceptional. We actually thought he was kidding. My brother, who is gluten intolerant, ordered the grilled fish tacos, I ordered the fish and chips. The fish and chips are perfect, in line with some of the best I have had on many trips to the U.K. My brother insisted I sample one of his tacos. WOW !!! The fish tacos were exceptional, just as the bartender stated. Succulent, tender fish, excellent mix of ingredients and the BEST fish taco I have ever tasted. Well worth a visit if you want to try one of the best fish tacos or perfect fish and chips.

One of little Italy's best bars to catch a few pints and watch some football. Try the sausage and mashed with a Guinness or grab a drink from the bar and sit outside.

We dropped in for a quick bite after our diving trip. Nothing spectacular. It's like any other sports bar, the beer is cold, service a bit slow, and the food was very typical for a sports bar. I wasn't really expecting anything special, and true to my expectations it was nothing special. Not a huge selection of vegan or vegetarian options, but I went for the default house salad with a honey mustard dressing. You can't really go wrong if your looking for a pub to get some food and beers.

On a hot Saturday afternoon we strolled by and stopped to quench our thirst with an ice cold beer and chilled glass of wine. This place, in the middle of Little Italy, was not busy yet--we probably were too early (4pm). It looked like it would be jumping later on, though. Friendly service.

We went here to watch a Liverpool game. 8am kick-off and the pub opened at 7:30. Great atmosphere from the fan club. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Great choice of beer. The breakfast was good but the didn't have a Full English on the menu, which was a bit disappointing. While the interior doesn't look like an English country pub, (neither do most English pubs) it certainly had an English pub feel and is most definitely looked nothing like a typical US sports bar. This place has character. We actually changed our travel dates to San Diego in order to be there for the Liverpool game and I'm sure we'll time our next trip to coincide with another game.

We had fantastic service. We were waited on right away and our waitress was very attentive. The food is Irish/English style Pub food and they do a great job. I had their made on the premises corned beef. Fantastic! Great value right in the heart of Little Italy San Diego. Definitely going back. It's a great place for breakfast or lunch right before a Padres game. The was one thing I didn't like, the bathroom.

We decided to get of our trolley tour at little Italy, and give this pub a go... great place to chill out have a drink and a bite to eat.. it was like being at home in UK didn’t expect to find homemade English food that tasted just like you get at home.. the atmosphere was great staff very friend and service was prompt and attentive food was served hot.. my hubby had the Cornish pasty which was really tasty and just exactly like the ones you get in Cornwall these are his favourite pasty’s which don’t usually taste the same anywhere other than Cornwall .... well done to the chef. I had the fish and chips which were just as good was not disappointed in the food. The selection of beer and larger where good, which they gave us a sample to try of what ever we wanted before we decided. I really liked the angry orchard cider best cider I have tasted. Coming here just finished our day off getting out of the rain setting by one of the fires having a bite to eat and a drink. I highly recommend this pub where it’s for a drink or food.. thank you all staff there yesterday for making our visit enjoyable you have a great place x

Love the Princess Pub! Good place for friends to hang out, throw your own party (we've been to a few here) and good drinks and bar food!

Nothing too spectacular but a nice little British Pub in the middle of Little Italy. The food is large portioned and quite good. The liquor pours are nice and the setting is quite authentic. Nice spot to get a dram or a pint :)

I checked this place out on a Friday night when I was in town for Comic-Con. It was okay but I wouldn't go back or recommend it. The beer was fine, the food was okay but I really would have expected more traditional British food on there such as Pork Pies etc although there were a few here and there in between the burgers, nachos and tacos. There was terrible sewage smell driving out onto the patio area from time to time from inside/alongside the building and our server was fine but did a terrible British accent that she kept trying to convince us was real. Being from the UK, and have lived all over the country, it was not real - even a mixed accent from a number of places and even some US influence wouldn't sound like that. It was a very odd experience. We had planned to stay all night but left after food and a couple of drinks to continue the night elsewhere. I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend it - with so many great bars and restaurants in the neighborhood, and around the same price point, (not to mention the other similarly themed and superior bars in the greater San Diego area) they really do need to up their game. I had a more authentic experience at the UK Pavilion at EPCOT.

Lots of selection for good beers. Had a fun trivia contest going when we arrived. Service was good and we enjoyed our food.

We called in here for our last meal on the way to the airport. It's a British pub and as we are English we thought we would offer support with good old fish and chips. We were told we could sit anywhere so we went outside to the pavement area. We had to wait a while for someone to serve us drinks. It wasn't that busy. We then had to search for someone to take our lunch order. This is where it became weird. I had noticed someone had onion rings- I asked if I could have a side of onion rings. She said that I could substitute my chips for onion rings or salad- I asked if I could just have them as an extra and she said that I could have them as a starter but not with my meal!!! I didn't understand it at all. Needless to say I went onion free!! I felt as though i was not talking the same language - Shame really

In the heart of LIttle Italy this pub is okay. My husband and I stopped by last week to watch one of the matches for the World Cup. Service was okay…it was pretty packed so it was slow…I ordered the Angus Patty Melt…fries were good, but the patty was not of good quality meat. I would not order it again. I also ordered a glass of wine (Malbec) and it was served in a plastic cup -tacky…our bill was a bit high considering the quality of the food and small serving of wine...the overall experience was "average." Not sure if I would return.

We recently visited the Little Italy area of San Diego and thought we would try this place because it said it had great fish and chips. It said the best in San Diego, but who said that? We we went in there and my wife had the fish and chips and I had the sausage rolls. My wife said the fish was fantastic. She couldn't remember when she had better. The sausage rolls were banger meat wrapped in puff pastry. These were also fantastic. Both dishes came with fresh cut french fries and they were cooked to perfection. I would go back here in a heartbeat, but get the fish and chips! Strongly recommended.

Three of us were desperate to find a place to watch the game. A person at our hotel recommended the Pricess Pub. The place was packed for the game. We were only able to get about 8 feet inside the door. Shortly after arriving, a server navigated her way through the crowd to us. We each ordered a beer. I was happy to see that they had Old Speckled Hen among a variety of other beers. Our server was back fairly soon, and we happily sipped our drinks and enjoyed watching the USA women beat the Chinese team.

Comfortable pub setting - friendly, efficient service - good pub food - fresh Guinness - and a delightful day bar maid who is a Pats fan despite the all Bears banners.

Stopped in for dinner one night and ate at the bar. Ordered the Cottage Pie. It was very good and the portion was huge. Great selection of beer on tap.

So I walk by this place frequently and they claim they have the best fish and chips...first off, if I pay close to $17 bucks for 'fish and chips' I expect more than one piece of fish....then the rude waitress at the bar...treating me like I was low income and could barely afford the food. So with attitude she asks "are you guys getting something to drink or what?" I say I just want water...she is practically rolling her eyes at me, comes back and gives me a dirty cup to boot....I don't know why these food place don't do a better job cleaning their dishes...it's not that hard...take your time and check your work - but that's another issue. I get up with my friend and we leave...she sees us walking out and asks are we leaving...uh yeah, stank attitude and expensive food...I will not bother to try again!

My Cornish Pastie could have been hotter, it was far too big for me (I couldn't eat the chips) but tasted good. Not quite traditional, but passed. His Cottage Pie (also a very generous serve) was lovely, he said. I didn't like the frozen vegetables, they weren't quite cooked properly, but he didn't mind them! It's my fault for having English food in the USA! Loved the Guinness. Reasonably priced in an area of stiff competition with many eateries.

Wonderful English Pub atmosphere. The fish and chips are amazingly good. Wait staff attentive, friendly, and went out of their way to assist us. Very dog friendly.

The young lady who waited on us was very helpful. She said they were known for their fish and chips and we weren't disappointed. We are happy that we only shared an order as there was lots of food on our plate. Also had a Bloody Mary that was very good. This pub is in in Little Italy and was close to our hotel, BW Bayside Inn. Very nice!

We were in San Diego for the week and came here 3 times. Good happy hour prices and lots of fun playing darts.

This was more like a typical Irish bar even though the emphasis was British. Dark blonde, worn smooth woods, pub fare & lousy wine list, if you can even call the meager offerings that. Given that we had just arrived in the city, they were sweet enough to let us grab one even though we arrived 5 minutes after “last call” & they seemed genuinely apologetic that the kitchen was already closed. I could not get the redish Q-R code to open on my phone so they brought us laminated drink menus. It’s probably a great local but otherwise it was unimpressive. They were very nice though.

We were visiting San Diego and decided to check out the Little Italy area and the market there but made the mistake of going there during the World Cup. We were scrambling to find somewhere to watch the match and the Princess Pub was the only place in the area that had TVs and was not just a restaurant. Service was very good and friendly considering how packed it was, and we had some sort of soup they had on special that was fantastic. We cannot vouch for any other food as we only had soup, but for a pub to watch a sporting event this was a good find for us.

Earlier this month, I spent a week in the Little Italy area and could not stay away from the Princess Pub and Grille. The staff made us so welcome and the service was exceptional. Food was great as well. And then there were a few local customers who wet towards the end of our time who made the place just more enjoyable. Thank you all. A great pub experience. More an English experience in the heart of an Italian experience.

Bartender Gar and Waitress were EXTREMELY RUDE EVEN AFTER A 25 percent tip an only 2 rounds of drinks. Will advise all corp personnel to avoid this venue

We stepped off our cruise and meandered the attractive downtown streets of San Diego. With the sun shining it was time for a break and we both decided that a step back in time to our cruise in England last year would be perfect. We enjoyed the atmosphere that the English setting provided with a ice cold brew. Refreshed we continued our journey.

Located in the scenic "Little Italy" sector, the "Princess Pub" was named after Lady Diana and is San Diego's oldest British Pub. It atmosphere is both classically British, as well as being very accommodating for Americans of every age. (Within 15 feet of our table were groups of hipsters, seniors, office workers, young families with toddlers, all obviously comfortable.) The Guiness and other stouts/ales are more numerous than at most bars, and are poured with practiced precision. Their "Fish/Cod and Chips" have won national awards, and are absolutely worthy of the hoopla. So also, their "Shrimp Po-Boy" sandwich and handmade fries are outstanding. Each priced at only $10, which is a real bargain for a satisfying meal with ambiance in this pricey part of the city. Located within easy walking distance of the cruise port, as well as of any downtown hotels, the Princess Pub and Grille is a must stop for anyone passing through San Diego and looking for excellent food quality at an affordable price in a fun (but family-friendly) atmosphere.

Audrey surprised us with her delightful personality…. The food was fantastic… highly recommended…. Will be back for drinks soon …

Stopped by the POW pub for a beer and cider. Always have a cider on draft, the beer selection for the hubby is pretty great too. This place is terrific for fish and chips, although we didn't eat this time.

The pub and grill is diagonally opposite our hotel, La Pensione. We called in before our evening meal. From the UK, I have seen all kinds of British pubs and bars around the globe. This one had all of the obligatory paraphernalia, Princess Diana & Queen pictures on the wall. Dart board, British and Irish beers on tap. All in all, it was a nice place that was relatively busy the nights we were there and food popular. There is a nice but narrow outdoor space on the pavement and great for people watching.

Been to England? Then you've almost assuredly been into a Brit Pub. This is exactly that. It's a bit bigger than most of them across the pond but the food and drink are spot on. Great selection of beers you just don't see anywhere else and was tickled to see Old Speckled Hen on draft. It's a load of fun.

Hubby is 1/2 British so pubs are “our” thing. This one was OK, but didn’t thrill us. Pint of Guinness ($8.50) was not poured properly. I had a glass of house chardonnay, but was charged for a premium brand. Review your check carefully. Location was fantastic.

The last place you might think of when in Little Italy in San Diego is an English pub. Make it one of the first. Princess Pub and Grille may, or may not be an "authentic" English pub. I don't care. The food and service are first rate! We had their specialty Tortilla Chicken Soup (not terribly English), fish and chips, and a tempura shrimp po' boy sandwich. Each was masterfully prepared, and served in a friendly, welcoming manner. The best thing on the table was the soup. If you have the chance and don't try it, you obviously hate yourself. Don't be put off by the incongruity. Princess is a must do!

I had the cod and fries it was a nice size portion. The cod had a crispy crust not to seasoned but adding malt vinegar helped. The fries seem to be homemade but I'm not sure. My friend and I also shared a bowl of tortilla soup it was good. The waitress was there by herself so was moving very fast. After we said something to her she took a little more time instead of running to the table and walking off in haste. I would visit again.

My colleague and I walked in once the doors opened. The staff was very friendly, even though they were setting up. The bartender was knowledgeable on all beers in tap. The beer was cold and was poured with the proper head. The Bloody Mary I tested the bar tender on was exquisite. The appetizers were well cooked and fresh. The location is ideal. It's worth looking for parking.

The 3 of us went to the Princess 3 times including once to eat and enjoyed it each time. The food was good (Shrimp in Cod very good) although the lack of a quality English ale a little disappointing (Boddingtons smooth is really not to my taste). Fortunately they had a wheat beer, many local craft beers, dozens of spirits etc so all was fine. The staff are pleasant and courteous. The ambience is approaching a British Pub and there are two dart boards and several televisions that we saw. We happened to be there on quiz night and it was quite full otherwise we were there before 6pm and there was plenty of room.

2nd time here. Had the curry last time. Very good. Good selection of beer but just one rather common cider. Had wings and a banger sandwich this time. Both above average. Good selection of traditional pub fare with a few local specialties thrown in, but not overwhelming. Very good bar, friendly staff. Good location with plenty of food, retail and drinks nearby. Nice atmosphere. Plenty of TV's. 2 dart boards. Good value. Remember to bring cash though, they recently started adding a charge for using a credit card. I had $1.25 added to my $16 tab. Only drawback was no military discount, not even today, the 11th of November. I'll be back though.

Decent British pub fare. I will say the service was very good. I've been there before and enjoyed it more, so maybe it was just me!

Good Guiness ( not properly poured) does not a great bar make. Rude bartenders and only a few patrons makes this pub seems like it's on it's last legs. The owners need to remodel and re-invent the joint or give up. I'd rather spend my time and money across the street at Ironside.

Lettuce salad was $7.00 for lettuce, quesidiasvwerev not filled....disappointing. Wine was expensive....

The menue has changed a bit, I could not get the Roast BEEF and YORHSHIRE PUDDING this trip, had the BANGERS and they were excellent. The Service is still great and the beer selection was still above the other bars in the area. We will be going back.

Just came in to have a few beers and watch NFL games...glad I did. They had a good variety of beers on tap and the Reuben sandwich was recommend...which I suggest too. The corn beef was tender and moist and didn't need a lot of seasoning. Anxious to return and try other items on their menu.

In town for business, staying in the Hampton Inn off Pacific. Game 7 eastern conference semi's puck drops 4:40 local. I asked at the hotel to point me in direction of a near by bar that they believed I could get the hockey game along with a good meal. They were spot on pointing me towards the Princess. The staff was great, beer was cold and drew a great pint. Fish & Chips hit the spot. All around great job and would certainly recommend. Daily Happy Hour from 4-7 is pretty great as well.

We stopped in for a late lunch and were pleased with the variety of the menu and the flavorful dishes. (And wow, the portions are generous.) Sit outside and enjoy prime Little Italy people-watching.

The service was good. Drinks were well made. The BEST Reuben I have had. Would definitely go back there

Was in here to watch England play Columbia in the World Cup , great atmosphere and lots of screens to watch the games on!

Had Lunch and Dinner here, the atmosphere was good, great location. Food is Good and a great selection.

I had lunch here one day on a whim as I had limited time and I picked a very good place. The service was good and I had the BBQ rib plate that was a special from the day before. Great ribs and a lot of food for the money. All in the atmosphere of a British pub. Well worth a try; I would have liked to try them at night for a dinner or just go there later at night for a beer and watch some games.

It's a fun Irish Pub, but I can't think of anything outstanding about it. The food portions are giant, and we can never eat it all, so it's a waste as far as I can tell. No one can possibly eat a whole tureen sized bowl of soup. I hear the beer is good, but the cocktails are definitely not their specialty. I also found it odd that the smoking section is by the open front door, so the smoke blows straight into the restaurant. If you don't like second hand smoke, sit way in the back!

I found this a good place to have a pub meal in Little Italy which is otherwise dominated by Italian Restaurants. I enjoyed my battered cod and chips while watching the ice hockey finals on a big TV screen. Service was excellent.

In the middle of little Italy was this british theme pub , being British myself thought I would give it a try , a welcome from the bar keeper was sat at the bar looking at the American , British and European drinks on offer after a couple of drinks we got a table and looked through the menu some real British dishes were there for sure from a Sunday roast to bangers and mash!! .. the wife had fish chips and mushy peas , i chose Cornish pasty and chips ... if you know your pasty’s a Cornish amazing and this didn’t disappoint we had a fab few hours here and can recommend to anyone British and all .

This is a wonderful pub! The full English breakfast and Guinness was delicious. Their menu is actually quite broad and varied with all the classic pub foods available. We had wonderful service and a family friendly lunch with high chairs for the kiddos. This is my new favorite pub in San Diego!

Friends brought us here, which we thought was very cool. Stu is English, so it great they chose a typically English pub to bring us to. Strange location, i.e. Little Italy, for an English pub! Also known as POW or Princess of Wales, there are plenty of photographs and Princess Diana memorabilia. We had dinner here and it was cheap and cheerful. Not be best food around, but good value for money.

Love this place and you can get full English breakfast all day! I've been there on Christams Day also and had traditional roast dinner with Yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes and peas...yummy! 2 rooms and a fireplace in one. Service can be sketchy sometimes and food can be slow but I still go back. Sports on all the tv's. Located in a great area.

We spent a week in San Diego and ended every evening at the Princess Pub. The service was excellent and the staff friendly. The fish goujons were delicious! A nice little place to end the day!

Not quite the authentic British pub that it tries to be, but the service is really good and the fish and chips are excellent. My wife and I both loved the fish. She loved the fries while I liked them. Prices are excellent. It was a great lunch.

Late afternoon beer stop. Nice selection of beers and full bar. Friendly service. Lots of screens for watching the game. Outdoor seating available. Did not try the food. Would return.

We probably picked the wrong night. Quiz/game night, just not my thing. A handful of tables and few at the bar enjoyed a quiz night, a host on a mic asking questions. The food was sufficient, just nothing special. I had Super nacho & my husband the cottage pie. Nachos were basic shredded cheddar melted on chips with standard toppings. I opted for no meat. This was a very larger serving, priced right. My husband enjoyed his dish. However, not much of a memorable meal on our few days visiting SD.

went to this Pub to watch the EPL season opening game between Liverpool & Norwich (I’m a huge LFC fan). Pub had a typical english feel to it and the atmosphere for the game was great (it is actually the venue for the official LFC Supporters club in SD). The draft beer tasted great although served in plastic cups - why? the food was very average at best, I had a steak sandwich but the sub was stale and way too much bbq sauce on the thing. I would visit this place again however I will just have the drink!

Food was good but the music was so loud we could not have a conversation. This establishment is styling itself as an English pub. I've lived in the U.K do not remember this level of noise. Makes for an unpleasant dining experience. Won't go back. They need to turn down the volume.

Called in for a few drinks and my husband loved the draft beers. Being british we loved the English pub vibe and the very good service, will definitely be returning again this evening.

They have a decent beer selection and pretty good food, even if it is (or seems to be) frozen. The cod and chips was very tasty, and they have HP. Not a bad experience, just not a legitimate pub, more like the overpriced tourist spots in London.

Excellent food and atmosphere. Our group enjoyed this unique find in Little Italy. All of our dishes were great, with the Cottage Pie being the big winner. The fish and chips and sausage roll were close seconds. Good beer list with perfectly poured Guinness.

I love this place, and it has a great authentic atmosphere This shouldn't be too surprising since the owner is a fellow Brit, so well done for preserving the pub-like atmosphere! Great cider, and nice food too, with a lovely little open-air section on the street

After searching up and down the street looking for a place to eat late night and seeing place after place close we ended up here. We were able to find a table, seat yourself, and was greeted right away. Cool bar with decent prices. Fish and chips are the bomb! Fresh cut fries cooked perfect. House salad was huge and the chicken tortilla soup was awesome. Thankfully the hotel was close walk cause I was stuffed! Definitely will be back to visit.

The nicest part of our two stops at The Princess Pub was our server Rosie. She was a delight. Thank you Rosie for making us feel so welcomed in San Diego. You have a heart of gold and we will always remember your kind words. The appetizers are great and most are half price during happy hour. Try the fish goujons (YUM, and stuffed mushrooms). Great house wine for $5 a class. Fabulous people watching. We cannot wait to return to San Diego and visit this place again!

Husband and I stopped in to have a bite, a few drinks and watch the game. There is a good deal of British pub food as well as bar eats and drinks. Staff was very friendly and we didn't feel rushed to leave before the end of the game. Nice place.

This is a British themed pub is San Diego. Staff are pleasant and they serve cold beer. This is the type of place that wasn't particularly memorable, but wasn't a negative experience either. I'd quite happily call in for a beer if passing, but I wouldn't make an effort to visit again if I was travelling any sort of distance.

An English Pub in Little Italy. Popped in for a pint. Good selection of English and Irish Beers on Tap. Well poured. A bit pricey. The Taco selection was very generous and tasty. But on a hot day it was a perfect place to be for a cool pint.

They were real nice sitting us at our table and informing my girlfriend and I about their "happy hour" draft beer prices. So we ordered 2 beers apiece and when the check came around we did not get the happy hour discount. They informed us the 2 beers we ordered happened to be the only 2 that did not get happy hour prices....how convenient. Don't go here. Shady at best criminal at worst.

When you've had your fill of Italian food while staying in Little Italy, the Princess Pub is the place to go. Besides great fish & chips, the hamburgers were good too.

We went for lunch at the princess pub and grill on the recommendations from my husbands brother he had gone the week before. I had the fish and chips my husband had a Rueben both were excellent. The service was a bit to be desired we had to go get the server a few times when my husbands order came he had ordered salad with his Rueben but got French fries with salad dressing on the side. The table next to us got the same thing so weather it was the kitchen staff or the server who knows. When we asked the server her excuse was she was on day three what ever that might. Our brother had sat at the bar and we sat outside so maybe it makes a difference. In closing food and beer were great but service not so much.

We went there twice On the first trip my wife had fish and chips and really liked the fish. She got two huge pieces and couldn't eat it all. I had the steak pot pie and also enjoyed that. Our second trip I ordered the steak pot pie but found it had to much gravy and not enough substance. My wife ordered the chicken fingers and thought the batter was way to thick. We also ordered drinks and I noticed hat they also charge for the mix, Bicardi and gingerly. Bacardi was $8.25and mix was $ 2.50 I found that expensive and had not encountered a separate charge for your mix before. I liked he settings in the pub with all the english artifacts

Table was sticky due to lazy table cleaning skills, took server a while to come take our order. Usual pub late at night was loud with overly intoxicated people sitting at the bar. Food was disappointing in the extreme plus overpriced. Ordered fish cakes, they were fried to oblivion and under seasoned, fries were good. Cottage pie was also under seasoned, must be scared of seasoning here, so blah. Lamb curry? Not sure what part of the lamb was used it looked like diced ham steak and almost as chewy. Curry flavor itself was undeveloped and average, naan was crunchy like toast, fries were good.

We were having a later lunch the day we visited and were only two of about 5 people in the restaurant. I can see where this might be a fun place to be once it comes to life w/more people and activity. The waitress was great. I had their famous fish and chips. Was not disappointed but it wasn't in the outstanding category. The Fish tasted fresh so that was a plus w/ the coating crunchy. Hubs had a bowl of soup and 1/2 tuna salad. He didn't complain so it must have been ok. I think if I were to return it would be in the evening when the atmosphere would be more pub like.

Went to watch a football game and bonded with the other patrons. Bartenders rarely checked in with customers to identify their needs.

Good English food and good drinks. Grab a table outside and enjoy the "Little Italy" vibe. The food was good (fish n chips) and the drinks were just right. Stop by and enjoy

We came here to watch El Clasico and it was good. Large beer selection and decent food options. We only had the BBQ wings which were decent. A good pub.

As a Liverpool FC fan I went to this place to watch the soccer, there was a great atmosphere and the place was very busy, the staff were fantastic and the food was excellent, as a Brit it was a taste of home. I went back there a couple of times when the soccer wasn't on and again there was a good atmosphere and the staff were great. I can't recommend this place highly enough, I will definately be going back there when I am next in San Diego.

Touring Little Italy, we choose this pub for dinner. We sat outside mainly because the music inside was so loud and we wanted to be able to chat. The menu offered many items but we ended up picking food to share. Our food came quick, fish & chips, potato skins, fries, wings and chicken tenders. Everything was really good as we ate it all.

Came here three times in a week bartender Adria provided great service every time even remembered my previous orders would recommend others to come here

No cover if you arrive early. The beer selection is good. They are famous for their fish n' Chips, but the portion is huge. The fish tacos were smaller but the fish on the taco was just a fish n' chip filet, I guess I was expecting it to be grilled or broiled. It was topped with a coleslaw. Not bad, but I wouldn't order it again. The best part of the Pub was the Frank Sinatra impersonator, he looked nothing like Frank...but sounded remarkably identical. He only performs the first Saturday of every month and it fills up fast. The show is worth the $6.00 cover or arrive early for no cover charge.

Delicious food and great beer choices. Wonderful service. Was there during a soccer game and there was a great atmosphere. Would recommend.

Busy for a week night but the staff was very helpful. Get the burger. But but very tasty. Great change from the Italian resturants in the block.

We had a great American lunch at this pub with outdoor seating. We wanted a break from Italian for one meal and this hit the spot. I had the homemade soup which was delicious - chicken and vegetables. Very casual, nice place to watch the world go by.

I've been here many times and I always enjoy the food, the beer and the staff. How many places have you gone to twice and on the second visit the bartender calls your name and asks you if you'd like the same beer you had on the last visit? This is that place. Burgers are excellent and the fries are the skinny cut kind which are nicely crisped. You'll enjoy strolling India St. as well. I give this 5 stars for a pub as it's easily one of the best around.

Great bar in little Italy with the best bartender “Gar” in the whole of San Diego if not the entire West Coast. Great bar, great staff, food and beer !! Oh and Katie is great too xx

If you find yourself in the Little Italy part of San Diego and you have had enough of the delicious italian food, but you are hungry, go to the Princess Pub and Grille. It is a tavern with food and once inside you can easily imagine yourself in London Town. The food is delicious, even the smashed peas. Its one of two favorite places in San Diego to get Fish and Chips and Scotch eggs. Yum.....take a moment eat, drink, and be merry.

Stopped here tonight for a drink and a late supper. The menu is a typical British Pub. Very good food. Plenty on the plate and reasonably priced. Good drinks good service and a large 'on tap' selection of beers. Would definitely return.

We were at Farmers Market on a Saturday wanted breakfast. They didn't open till 10 or 11 and we were first ones in. Got posole (Mexican soup) fantastic going back check out other breakfast items next week

The waiter served me some god-awful concoction of hard liquors because he knew I was a tourist and called it a special Yucatan Princess. Way over-charged me for it too. The bar smelled bad too and the restrooms were dirty. Walk on by this one.

We used to go to the Princess every time we'd visit San Diego which was often back in the 90s. I was thrilled to see that it was still there, in good shape, had great beer and still good English food. The Fish and Chips were good, with thin batter and a plenty of fish. It's right on India street, in the mix of things and if you just don't feel like Italian, the Princess is a good alternative. If you're a Princess Diana fan, there are a bunch of pictures and memorabilia on the walls related to her reign..

We went here twice for beer and snacks. Lots of beer offerings and we sat outside both times. The food we had was typical pub food and it delivered. Lots of people movings around on the sidewalk and Little Italy has lots going on. Pretty safe bet for beer and snacks.

The best Fish and Chips this side of London. To top that off, the Princess serves the finest, frothiness Guinness that only Dublin can beat, all surrounded by British memorabilia. Also delve into the incomparable malsada curry lamb with rice.

The patty melt and fries I ordered came to the table quick, but they should have taken a little more time and effort in preparation, because the miniscule burger was very poorly seasoned if at all. The bread doubled the size of the Burger and the fries were somehow cold when they get to the table. I have contemplated my posting and finished my meal 10 minutes ago and am still waiting for my waitress to acknowledge my existence. Another beer would be nice, but I will likely have to go down the street for that. This is pitiful and unacceptable as a business. Officially the worst meal I have had in San Diego! Great beer selection, but avoid the food!

Located right in the heart of the Little Italy Strip, there is absolutely nothing “Princess” about this hotel. The drinks are cheap and cheerful, but that is where it ends really. The venue is in desperate need of a clean and a refurbishment and the ladies toilets are really weird and odd. However, if you can get a seat at one of the outside tables with your drink, it is a good place to people watch.

If you are looking for a real bar atmosphere in Little Italy, this is it? Kevin - the barkeep - is great. Have him make you an old fashioned. Happy hour has 1/2 off on bar food. Very good.

The food was decent. I had the steak and mushroom pie which was pretty much a steak and mushroom stew with a biscuit on top. My boyfriend had the Chicago sandwich/sub was very different than the actual Chicago style subs that he has has elsewhere. The service was alright. We sat for a little while before we were waited on and the tables weren't too busy, but the bar was packed because it was Elite 8 basketball time.

Ate here one night whilst stopping in San Diego. Nice craft beers and the food was good. Very similar to an English pub. Staff were very friendly and it was reasonably priced for the main street in little Italy.

Went here for an evening meal, and really enjoyed it, it was just like being at home was just like being in an pub in England, the service was great and very speedy and the food was delicious

We stumbled upon this pub in Little Italy and decided to stop in for an early dinner on a Saturday night. The service was fast and friendly, and the selection of imported drinks was impressive. The food was fantastic! My husband had the beef and mushroom pie, which was rich and flavorful with a side of mashed potatoes and veggies and a pitcher of gravy. I had the sausage and mash, also with veggies and a pitcher of gravy. The sausage was was perfectly crisped and savory, the potatoes hearty and well seasoned, just a great comfort meal. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is a lot of smoke drifted in from outside and that was less pleasant.

Went to the Pub for a quick bite and a drink during happy hour. Located in little Italy area amongst a large selection of Italian restaurants, but it holds its own when it comes to serving good English/Irish pub food. We had the fish and chips and a few pints of Irish beer. Good selection of beers both local and from across the pond. Fish and chips were cooked perfectly and the breading wasn’t overpowering. The taste of the fish came through and not the breading. 6 dollar pints and some appetizers offered at half price during happy hour had the place pretty full in the early evening. Recommend hit the place early, have a pint and head to one of the Italian restaurants near the pub. Easy to have a conversation at the bar which makes for a perfect happy hour spot in San Diego.

The food is fresh, the bartenders are on it. What more could you want? Happy Hour M-F 5-7. You will feel right at home at this place! Oh yeah. It is a giggle to be an Irish Bar in the middle of Little Italy, but sometimes you need a break.

6 couples stopped in after golf. Shannon was our server and bartender too. Did an absolutely wonderful job handling our large group. Had our drinks and nachos and onion rings. Wonderful and really large servings for happy hour prices

Perfectly OK bar that sells itself on being British-owned/operated. But G&T - a classic drink - served American style, ie. already mixed. Would have preferred to pay more for the drink in a classic self-mix style.

This is opposite La Pensionne Hotel and very handy for a drink. They had Happy Hour 2\3pm to 7pm Monday - Friday. They had food which semed to be popular.

We had a large group of 9 with kids ranging from 17-10 and also wanted some cold brews with our meal. Due to our group size, we had to sit inside since alcohol couldn't be served on the makeshift patio across the sidewalk. It was a little toasty inside, but the food with great, beers were cold and we were able to seat our entire group without issue. Fish tacos and pastie were favorites!

Would be nice if they occasionally removed the empty glasses from the tables and wiped the surfaces down. To me this bar sums up Little Italy. Over rated, overpriced and best avoided.

Stopped here for lunch, and sat outside at a table and watched the world go by in little Italy! I had the fish and chips and they were delicious! The service was good, very friendly staff, the drinks were good, not too expensive, the people walking by made for a great solo lunch!

My friends and I had a great experience at this Pub and Grille! The food was yummy, the drinks were great and the service was amazing! Josh was our server/bartender. He was so friendly and made us feel very welcome. We just arrived in San Diego and Little Italy was our first stop, with the Princess Pub and Grille being our first drink and meal. Josh set the tone for the start of our trip to California and we truly appreciate his hospitably. I highly recommend this place to eat and or have a drink at! I will go again if I get a chance to go to San Diego again.

did not eat here but the food looked good its a british themed pub with good choices of beer and best of all the owner is a Liverpool fan.

My fish tacos were fantastic! My friends all loved their food. Very good quality and presentation of meals. The service was excellent. The prices were reasonable. We even went back later that night for a late night snack. Very nice casual place.

Great prices. Fun atmosphere even at 11 am. Excellent food, the breakfast was over the top. I will come here again.

I can see possible vulnerabilities which could cause customers to dislike this place. My impression is that this place does not center itself around the "customer is always right" maxim. This makes sense to me, because usually the customer isn't right. But people who expect that kind of attitude might not value the fact the staff default to being friendly, courteous and efficient. The other vulnerability would be that I don't think this place is trying to be so British-pub-like that Brits feel like they are back home with the Queen when they step through the door. Neither of these vulnerabilities bother me in the slightest. The food I had (Cobb salad) was awesome, the beer was good, and it was all served quickly and with some smiles. The atmosphere in general was inviting and comfortable. I will be back next time I'm in Little Italy.

I walked in and made contact with the server. She said it was open seating. She walked by me about five or six times and made eye contact a few times. After waiting patiently for ~15 minutes and looking the menu up on the internet I got up and walked out. Two guys behind he bar looked busy, cool set up.! I walked in at about 945 pm

Ducked in here to catch a college football game and it was exactly what I was looking for: a comfortable, uncrowded bar with TVs, good beer list and friendly people in Little Italy. No waiting in line here and plenty of space to move. The fish tacos here were very tasty. More people should know about this place.

We actually ended up eating a couple of meals here and had drinks and all of it was great and the service was fantastic. Did I mention they had Guinness!

One of the older establishments in Little Italy it is well worth your time. Lots of British pub fare and a great selection of adult beverages. Sit outside on a sunny day (there are a lot of them in San Diego) and enjoy the street scene in Little Italy. Have fun!

situated near downtown San Diego. The food and wine were very pricey. It was very enjoyable sitting on the street table. Service was excellent.

Food was ok, we called days ahead of time that we would be a party of 12, they couldn't put two tables together for a party and had plenty of room to do so and the drinks were way overpriced. We still had a good time with the friends we were with. The party I was with get together regularly and go out to places all over San Diego County and we will never go back to this place.

My wife and I ate here while on a business trip to the area. We stopped by at happy hour and ended up staying for their exciting trivia night contest. Our server was great. She made a number of suggestions and offered us a free sample of a couple of their ales. They have a nice set of draft beers available. We tried several appetizers. They were all good, but typical pub offerings. Tasty and a good price. I would definitely eat here again on a future trip to the area.

I stopped in the pub for a quick pint and some grub. There is a reasonable offering of draft beers, with a menu highlighting the merits of their cod and chips. So thats what I chose. Something that looked a bit like coleslaw was also on the plate. It didnt look fresh, so didnt eat it. Well, what more can I say. I have posted a picture, and you can make your own mind up. British Fish and chips really dont look or taste like this. Overpriced at $17. Sorry, but I wont be returning

They had a delightful Christmas Dinner Menu, but we are vegeterians. They did have fish tacos on the menu, so we were saved. They were excellent, and the chocolate cake was delicious.

Very fun place to meet friends. The fish and chips are my favorite thing on the menu. Good assortment of appetizers.

We had lunch there. The food was good. Wine is pricey when not on happy hour. Be sure to go there for happy hour and sit outside.

Walked inside and it is a bit dark. Meals are generally large and staff were helpful. The cod and chips was good as was bangers and mash. Ribs good. The steak and mushroom did have too many mushrooms so more a mushroom with a bit of steak. Still tasty

Located in San Diego's "Little Italy", this British pub is a nice change from all of the Italian restaurants in the neighborhood. The food is decent, a typical "British pub" menu which extends to burgers, ribs, tacos, soups and salads. My fish & chips were British style and pretty good. Good selection of British and Irish draft beers. Lots of TVs for sports viewing (or ignoring). We were there for lunch. I would return for the British menu selections and beers!

As soon as we checked into our hotel and settled our bags, we went in search of a pub and in short order, we found the Princess. It is located on a corner with a few tables outside in the lovely sunshine - just what we wanted. The Guinness was just the right temperature with the just right foamy head. We sat back and just savoured. After abit, we ordered some wings. They were tasty and hot. We did visit again later in the week and found the service and food the same- excellent!

I was in town alone on business and staying near LIttle Italy. I went exploring one evening looking for somewhere not too fancy to eat, but where I could sit down. I'm a dedicated Britophile so I was astounded to round a corner and see a red British phone box! Inside I found a sports pub with the usual fare but also authentic Brit pub food. I had bangers and mash while I watched a baseball game and joined in on trivia night. A great find.

Great food, great service. Authentic British pub food & drink as well as ambiance. Went back more than once.

While this is not Italian, it is small in the center of little Italy. This is one of the most authentic and cool pubs in America. Delicious Sunday roast, Guinness and Stella on tap, darts and everything that reminds us of being back in England. We bring the family here and they accommodate young kids very well with high chairs.

Didn't know any of the craft beers available and asked waitress for some help. She was very non commital and said they had no lite beer. Chose one beer which was OK but then saw her give some Bud Lite to another customer which is what we would have prefered

Situated right in Little Italy it is an option rather than Italian food and also has a great selection of beers. Nice to be able to sit outside and people watch while having some liquid refreshment.

Came in for happy hour on a Friday and sat outside. They’ve got lots of seating, and the service was quick and our waitress was awesome. Had the nachos and they were delicious! Great location and love being able to sit outside.

We had dinner here on our vacation due to the recommendation of a friend. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the food or the service. The fish and chips were some of the best we have ever eaten. They were not greasy and the fish was flaky and white. We returned two nights more for happy hour and the potato skins. Delicious! The wait staff were all super nice and even remembered us from a few days before. Friendly people and out door seating plus good prices. This restaurant is in the Italian area but worth the stop for a break from pasta. You won’t be disappointed.

Don't expect any free bumps even if you're a regular who regularly tips 30-50%. Anyway, just my experience ...

Great food. Great service. Nice atmosphere and several tvs showing sporting events. Go during happy hour for good deals on appetizers. However drinks are outrageous. $18 for a Long Island is way over priced.

Enjoyed a nice midday meal at this pub. The fish and chips was very good, even better when I pilfered my husband's gravy to top the chips! He had the steak and ale pie, which he greatly enjoyed. He wished he'd asked for mushy peas, which they have, but it came with American style peas and carrots. Would return when we visit the area again!

Great service from Shannon and Josh. Good value at happy hours, like their half price appetizers and special price drinks. Love the patio.

A lively little pub with outdoor seating. Inside they offer music and darts to enjoy along with your favorite cocktail. Our server was slow however, it was her first night. I ordered the ribeye steak, it was served with a good amount of real mashed potatoes and bacon wrapped asparagus. It also came with a salad. The steak was surprisingly large and superbly cooked to perfection. The bacon wrapped asparagus was the BEST EVER- and I'm not a big asparagus fan!

Stopped in for a night cap. Played a little darts while winding down with a REAL Black and Tan (Guinness and BASS) and a shot of Maker's Mark. Beer was cold and smooth, and the service was SOLID. The dart boards BOTH SUCKED! The darts bounced off the boards constantly because the boards are old and worn out. Flip side... friend had the fish and chips, and they were AWESOME! SUPERBLY done in the British style! I would not go out of my way, but swing in if walking by. This gets just an OK.

This place is a blast! It's a great place to come to hang out with friends and have a drink and a bite to eat! Great service and fun atmosphere! A lot of Little Italy locals hang out here and it's a real asset to the neighborhood! Give it a go!

Not many places in Little Italy are open late. Princess Pub & Grill was serving food after 9pm and had seats available. Overall average experience, but it's nice to find a place to eat and drink when you're visiting and everything else is closed.

We stopped into the Princess Pub as we were walking through the Little Italy Street Market on a Saturday morning, as we have never eaten there. The morning Euro Soccer matches were just getting finished and we noticed how many people were walking out of there so we just decided to walk in and try it. We were met by the nicest waitress who had a very distinct accent from the Emerald Isle who seated us promptly and got us some drinks. She had a very good knowledge of the menu, which was pretty extensive, and made some good recommendations. My wife had the Fish and Chips and I had the Beer Battered Fish Tacos. OMG they were so delicious, my wife loved the fish and my two tacos were huge and wrapped in two big corn tortillas. The Pub Chips were fresh and tasty and were like In N Out on steroids. The prices were fair and the beer selections were pretty good, they had a very good mix of European style beers and American Craft. Our service was excellent and this, for sure, is a place to keep on our radar for the future.

Taco Tuesday- got here about 9:30pm and ordered tacos because my daughter was desperate for tacos and we were staying close. Just not good in fish or pork.

We had a rough day and stopped in for a bite before turning in for the night. Eric put us at a really nice table next to the fireplace. The lentil soup was absolutely delicious as were the potato skins. We happened in at happy hour and the prices were terrific. Beer choices on draft were good as were the bottled imports. What I could not believe was that someone was someone was smoking cigarettes. This is California. No one is allowed to smoke in doors. we could not wait to leave. Upon returning to our hotel - everything we had on reeked. our hair smelled like cigarettes. I could not sleep like that. I'd just paid to have my hair blown out for a conference the next day and now I had to wash it our and basically waste the blow out. Food, service and drinks get 5 stars - the smoking ruined it. they need to better enforce California code and the health of their patrons from second hand smoke. I really would not go back if the smoking continues

British Sports Pub!! We arrived late and it was open. Had a drink and some appetizers. I recommend the Potato Skins!

Stopped in for a drink sat at the bar got our drinks never to be spoken to again. Not busy at all. Food looked typical of the bar food in Britain. We're out of here to find some friendly bar conversation and good fresh food.

We went on a Tuesday night and while most of the restaurants (Italian we were in Little Italy) were crowded we were able to walk in and get a table. I had the Shrimp Stuffed Cod with Basmati Rice. It was Very good. My husband had the Steak and Mushroom Pie. He said it was also good. Along with a Beer and Margarita, we were quite happy with our choices. Service was excellent. Most of the people were at the bar area, we sat at a table.

We stopped by Princess Pub for a beer while on vacation--what a blast from the past! We lived in San Diego almost 30 years ago and the pub looked pretty much the same as it had all those years ago. The beer was cold and the fries were hot, hand-cut, fresh and delicious!

Very rude guy on the entrance. His attitude made us leave the place. Also the attitude from the waitress was not the best.

We happened in on a Tuesday at lunch time when we noticed Futbol on the TV screens. Liverpool and Napoli playing and the place was jammed with fans. We loved the excitement of the game and fans but, oh yes. The food was great. Perfect British Pub food. A surprise when we were in the Little Italy section of San Diego.
Great fish & chips
My wife and I sometimes come downtown to Little Italy to go to the Farmers Market on Saturday morning. Depending on the time we will either go out to breakfast or walk around awhile and then go out to lunch. We have had fish and chips all over San Diego County and this place serves up the best and largest portions of all. The beer selection is good but I like a couple of black & tans with my fish & chips. If we eat here for lunch, dinner at home is always very lite. One of the upsides for me eating here with my wife is I get the fish she can't eat, so yes I am very full when we leave. Great place, good staff.
