7 of 61 Bars & Pubs in Philadelphia

Stopped in for dinner while visiting Philadelphia. Selected the restaurant because it was close to Spring Garden Station. We ordered a Fried Chicken which was quite overdone. The concept of serving it with several sauces was good but it wasn’t carried out well, particularly considering that it’s a weekly special. Otherwise ok, service was good as was the draft beer selection. Burgers looked good, maybe we just ordered the wrong thing.

Loved the Mac and cheese with bacon. Great beers...good service... definitely will be back again soon!

We stopped by a few weeks ago to try it out. The bartender was lovely. Drinks were amazing especially the cider on tap (the also have bottles of French cider, which is my favorite). We tried the beer battered string beans with aioli and the Thai style mussels with bread, which were both terrific and really well-seasoned. We’ll be back soon.

We went to try out this place while waiting for a Janelle Monet concert to start at the Union Transfer (A concert Venue nearby). We found it through YELP and it had four stars. Well what a disappointment. The Bartender/Waitress was nice enough but the food was not that great. We had the southern fried chicken sandwich and I tried the shrimp salad that was written on the board. Also tried the guac and chips. ALL were disappointing and were not finished. The beer was ok even though most were unavailable. The BEST thing was the hand cut fries with the pecorino cheese. Oh I ate that up and wanted more. Only because I was still hungry from the rest of my unfinished food. There are SOOOOOOO many other places in Philly to eat. I'll pass.

Pretty good but I have to admit I'm from Philly and I only went one time. Probably because I'm not a huge beer person, but they had good humus.

This is a great bar and restaurant with delicious food that is fresh and locally sourced. We ordered the Mac and cheese and it was fantastic! the perfect mic of creamy, flavor, and spice. The side salad it came with had a wonderful dressing that pleasantly surprised us. Prices were reasonable and service was satisfactory. If we're in the area again, we will definitely visit.

great fresh cocktails for $5! apparently the location is pretty seedy tho. the bartender wouldn't serve someone who's ID expired 3 days prior.

I've stopped here both times I've been to underground arts, the Beer list is great and so is the food. Huge portions at reasonable prices. Friendly service to boot.

I love this place. The reason I found it was due to the gluten free fried chicken night. It’s amazing! I was even more excited when they made their fryer dedicated gluten free. However, they’ve changed staff and since then it seems to be a sandwich shop. My favorite regular menu item (a salad) was taken away, and so if I don’t go on fried chicken night, my options for gluten free items are limited- even with a dedicated fryer. I don’t want a bunless burger all the time. Nor do I want them to start offering subpar grocery store GF buns for $4 more. But there are so many options for gluten free foods- especially with a dedicated fryer. ProTap had a wonderful cider menu, and I’d likely eat there daily if they had better options to go with that cider…

i came here for a nightcap after eating at Bufad (a block away). Great selection of beers and a decent bourbon selection as well. It's a great space with bar-stools, communal tables and communal bar tables (I know that doesn't make sense, it will when you go there). The music is played at a volume that you can hear and easily talk over. The bartenders were great, really friendly and professional, they get the drinks out fast and know what they are doing. They were also happy to fill growlers for me to take to the outstanding pizza place up the block. Nice place, I'll be back for sure.

It was the last night of a huge 40,000 attendee board game convention called PAX Unplugged and as an exhibitor we were very tired from the packing up of our booth. We got done at 10pm on a Sunday night and we realized that most of the good places to eat had already closed their kitchens! We looked around and found Prohibition Taproom and it had great reviews on tripadvisor as a gastropub and so we went over. It was very comfortable and pretty quiet. It helped that it was vinyl night so everyone in there (probably 20-30 people tops) was enjoying the vibe. We had the burger and fries and side salads. I think we also got an appetizer but can't remember what it was. It was all very tasty and reasonably priced for Philly. ($100 meal for 2 people vs $300 at our hotel and other restaurants) This is the type of small homey pub you want to find when you're new to a city. Well done! Bartenders were great, food was good, and this was a great finale to our work trip.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. They introduced me to Yards Brewing. Very inventive menu and great bartenders.

Before a concert at the Met, we decided to go to the Prohibition Tap Room. It is located in the Callowhill/Spring Garden area of Philadelphia and uses a building that has been a bar since the 1800s. The restaurant/bar itself is relatively small. We had a bit of a wait to be seated and ended up sitting at the full-service bar. I recommend trying to get reservations before coming but we arrived well-before the show and had some time to kill. It's a great atmosphere and a perfect spot if you're looking to grab a drink before a show or catch their happy hour. What we ordered: White Bean Dip: The appetizer came out quickly. The hummus was warm, creamy and full of flavor. The broccoli rabe was a nice addition to the dish and I was surprised how much I liked the balsamic drizzle. It was just enough acid and didn't overpower at all. I wish they gave us more pita though but it was delicious. I think I'm going to have to try and use navy beans the next time I make hummus. Fried Chicken Sandwich: This was the best part of the dinner. The chicken was fried yet still very juicy on the inside. The mayo added a good kick of flavor. The bun was so soft and the fries that were served with them were just crispy enough. They paired well with the leftover hummus. Viet-Cajun Shrimp Po Boy: The sandwich itself was slightly sweet, a bit spicy and full of flavor. The amount of shrimp in the Po Boy was plenty and well-cooked. It brought me right back to NOLA but with an Asian flair. Both entrees were delicious and paired well with the drinks that we got. Honestly, the only thing I really didn't care for was how hard the roll was in the Po Boy dish. It was a bit loud, but it was jam-packed on a Saturday night. They were really large and we left very full. My boyfriend had an assortment of beers and I had a few ciders. I was excited to see that they had a bunch of ciders on tap that wasn't Angry Orchard. These were dry, full of flavor with a good apple impact. The bartenders were attentive and were helpful in choosing drinks. Being a prohibition bar, they had plenty of mixed drinks that looked delicious as they came out from the bar. I would recommend coming to the Prohibition Taproom and grabbing a drink. Plenty of beers and ciders available and a full-service bar for those who like to drink a bit harder. Walking distance to several of the concert halls in the area, it's great for a quick (or long) drink. All the food was delicious and the atmosphere was really neat.

Thankfully, one can inbibe legally at Prohibition. Their sandwitches and burgers are delicious. This establishmnent is owned by the husband-wife team of Cafe Lift and Budad Wood-fired Pizza. I would be happy to start at Cafe Lift for Breakfast and on to Bufad or Prohibiton for lunch and dinner.

Great drink spot with really good food. The grilled cheese special is a favorite! We also tried to fried green beans and pickles and loved them. They have a beef fry Friday where things are fried in you guessed it beef fat---we didn't try but will the next time we go!

Wow, what a refined tip top tasty tap, quiet and relaxed atmosphere that does so many things right, low level music, chef forward menu serving gastropub styled cuisine and familiar favorites, and a heartfelt draft selection, we all got it good here. The bartender did double as throughout. I noticed a chalkboard scribble for weekly kitchen creations and had to go for the baked gnocchi. The others did the essential east coast city Philly Cheesesteak, fried chicken Mac n cheese, grilled chicken, and we had to sample the popcorn Chicken which was all phenomenal. I know few places with such consistent good flavors from dark meats to creamy sauces. Popcorn chicken had a real nifty side sauce. My gnocchi was small but sublime. Others dived through all their dishes with high compliments to the fried, Cheesesteak, and my two drafts I dunked into. Parking is annoying even for a big city. Also please don't bring kids here. Totally would make myself a regular here if I ever migrated east of Indiana, this is the iconic mix of quality and easy going that doesn't thin the wallet too much.

Unique beer and food. A rotating on tap selection of top shelf craft brews as well as a treasure trove of bottled and cans. If you're a beer snob, this is the joint.

Excellent food. They have gluten free items. Gluten free fried chicken was excellent. Hand cut fries were excellent and also gluten free since their frier is gluten free. Our waiter was very nice and helpful. They require proof of covid vaccination to sit inside; which we appreciated. this is a historical pub from the 1800's

OK, we were looking for something convenient because the weather was awful and we didn’t have a car. Choices were limited so we were prepared for anything but hit a jackpot! This place is small, dark and loud but the food was outstanding with very attentive wait staff. We had the beer battered green beans and they were amazing! Don’t skip these. We also had the fried chicken sandwich. It was so good—no breaded chicken breast here, this is a heavily battered, extra crispy thigh which was incredibly juicy topped with cheese an an aioli, crunchy pickles and a super tender bun, comes with shoestring fries which were really good, albeit a little on the salty side. Loved the attention of our server and wished I had space for the s’mores pie.

We went here before a show at Union Station because it was within walking distance. The food was amazing! I highly recommend the braised beef cheesesteak! It is not your classic cheesesteak so it is a nice change from everywhere else and tastes freaking awesome! It is like a mix between a classic philly and a roast beef sandwich. And, the chicken croquettes are addictive. We also had the steak tartare sliders and they were pretty good, just kind of plain. The potato chips were very salty but good. The beer selection is great, the staff is great, the atmosphere is pretty cool...the only complaint is that there were a lot of pretentious people in there and some jerks that were crowding us in at the bar kind of yelling in our ears. Nothing against the restaurant at all, only the clientele which I guess you can find anywhere. We are very laid back so it just wasn't our style. I would highly recommend going early before it gets too crowded though.

Overrated on TripAdvisor for sure! Old and jv. Food was small time local, kind of gross, nothing special for sure. Fried pickles had very fishy flavor; obviously grease was fishy. Other food was nothing special either. Very junior varsity, at best. Drinks are decent. Service ok. Just nothing special to see here, not sure why good rating on TripAdvisor. See Google reviews.

Prohibition Taproom's incognito flat black curb appeal is part of the charm and mystery of this off the beaten path establishment. I enjoy going there for vendor lunches or to meet up with friends. The menu staples are excellent (Fried Chicken, Short Rib Cheesesteak, Burger, Pork Belly Grilled Cheese) and the craft beer list is fresh & fun. My only complaint is that the menu has lost some of the variety (mystic) that I enjoyed when eating at Pro-Tap. I miss the creative flavors and textures of the rice bowls.

Group of 6 stopped in for beers and lunch. For the most part, lunches were ok. Couple of us had the brisket tacos. DRY! I had to eat some of everyone else's food. Couldn't eat the tacos.

While on a recent business trip I was looking for a low key casual place to get a beer and sandwich. This place checked both boxes and did it all in a cool old school no-nonsense way. The restaurant/bar has the feel of a neighborhood hangout. The menu isn't huge, but there is a nice variety of sandwiches and dinner plates. My colleague got a burger and he was happy. I tried the Viet/Cajun Shrimp Po-Boy. It was delicious but very messy, so was the burger. Both sandwiches came with fries, and they were good as well. The service was perfect; beer selection was vast and varied. Places like this are great because you get to feel like a local. This place was close to downtown but far enough away to not be overrun by other attendees of the conference I was attending. Good find, I would go back next time I'm in town.

Prohibition taproom is a nice little space lit by Edison bulbs. Their beer selection is decent and their staff is awesome. We went at a time when it wasn't overly full, which was nice. Great place and would return.

Drinks were really good and their food was better than your typical “bar food”. All the wait staff were really friendly. Had a great time!

Found this place from a recommendation as I don't think I would have ever just walked in here. It looks more like a bar with seating around it but it will hold a good crowd. They are a tap room and have a nice beer selection but I was there for lunch. We were not in a hurry but it took almost 2 hours to have lunch but again we were not in a hurry so I am sure you could get out much faster if you tell them. Everyone enjoyed their meals and everything was prepared as ordered. I don't like the fact that they have a "no substitutions" note on the menu but we changed a few things and didn't have any problems just a negative while reading the menu. I also had the key lime pie and it was really good. I am a native Floridian so I have had my share and this one was very authentic tasting pie. I would recommend this place for lunch as we had a great experience.

Ok, maybe I'm biased because I'm more foodie than a drinker. The food here was phenomenal. The fried green beans are battered like they would be at a Japanese restaurant and were perfectly crispy and seasoned. Deviled eggs were good and I'm a sucker for any deviled egg. The pork belly grilled cheese my boyfriend said was delicious. I had the fried chicken sandwich with coleslaw and picked tomato on a great bun and it was killer. Next time, I would get it without cheese. Their French fries are wonderfully seasoned have some delicious shallot and cilantro concoction and it was mouth watering. My boyfriend had the Philadelphian drink and loved it. For the price, you got a great portion of food. Staff was nice and the place was clean with a really cool atmosphere. We would go back!

We only decided on this place because it was walkable from the Convention Center and the food/beer seemed interesting. After a sketchy walk along 13th Street, we finally found it, but had we not intentionally been looking, we probably would have missed it. This place is small, but the staff was definitely nice and accommodating. The interior is overly dark. I could barely read the menu once I moved to the interior of the place. There were seats at the bar, and they had sports on the tv's overhead. I couldn't really get the vibe of the place - sports bar? Hipster joint? it was hard to tell. Despite the heavy emphasis on beer, I felt like a refreshing cocktail (they offer five), so I tried the Clip Joint, which was just what I needed after the walk. We ordered the much-recommended Beer Battered Green Beans, and they were very tasty, although I wish they'd done a better job of draining the grease. That being said, the basket was quickly emptied. Oddly, I wasn't happy with the choices on the menu - I just wanted 'more' - but they make it clear - this place is about beer, not food. I opted for the fried chicken sandwich The prickle brine and seasoning all come together in a terrifically moist piece of chicken on a perfectly fluffy bun. I didn't even bother with the fries, and probably should have asked for coleslaw instead. We opted to take 12th street on the return, which - although it was only one street over - turned out to be a more brightly lit, less sketchy walk back to the hotel. Would definitely suggest to my more city-savvy friends.

Met a friend here for dinner who is gluten free.. She saw that they serve gluten free fried chicken. I have to say it was some of the best fried chicken that I have ever had! Service and the many beers were awesome!! Highly recommend!!

Just came in to grab a quick drink and ordered a pretzel on the whim. It was amazing. One of the best pretzels I have ever had. Must try!

Went for a business lunch and was excellent food. My business associate had the Mac n cheese. I had the philly cheese steak. Both were spicy an excellent.

Stopped in the other night before a concert at Underground Arts, and was pleasantly surprised! Despite its location, name, and proximity to independent music venues, there was no sense of hipster elitism to be found!! The whole staff was friendly including the owner, who was working behind the bar like any other employee, filling drinks, delivering food, extra napkins, etc. Their beer list is out of this world, offering rarities and cask-only selections. The burger (it has no specific name) will blow your mind with it's nuanced simplicity. 3 beers of various quality and a burger cost me $30, which was easily worth about twice that amount for the service, speed, friendliness and overall deliciousness of my meal. Not going to try and find another pre-show pub after this, I loved it, and will be back for more!!!

It seemed like everyone knew each other but it was still a friendly atmosphere with games on the TV's, good beer and a limited but excellent menu.

Prohibition Taproom was recommended for a late dinner after a business event, and we couldn't have been happier. This place buys and butchers its own meats, makes its own charcuterie, cares passionately about the food and drink served -- and is unbelievably unpretentious. Hip young staff knows what they're serving, and made us out of towners feel welcome in what is obviously a place that has a LOT of regulars.

My favorite local bar. ProTap always has the best beer and cider list, hands down. Since Covid, they have added super cool, shaded seating outdoors for patrons. The food is always delicious. Fabulous friend chicken that is also gluten free! The Cobb salad is the best around. Happy hour always has a nice selection of food and drinks on special. Can not wait to sit at the bar again, but thanks to their safety procedures, I can enjoy all my favorite foods until then!

My husband and I were in town for a concert and was staying at the landmark building a block away. We drove into Philly around 9 and decided to grab a small bite and drink some beers. This place is amazing. There's seating inside as well as outside. The menu has vegetarian options, which is great. I ate the portobello avocado sandwich, which didn't disappoint. My husband at the peach grilled cheese. We both chose local craft beers to drink. The place was a great local place!

After traipsing aroudn the city, this was our last stop for a night cap. The bartenders were outgoing and friendly, making it the perfect place to end our night. Sadly, the AC wasn't in full mode, which made the bar feel a little sticky, but it didn't inhibit our time there. The drinks were good and the blueberry bread pudding was divine and served as my nightcap since I was the DD for the night. A good place to go with friends; wouldn't say it's exactly a couples spot unless, you're just going for a few drinks.

It everything was awesome and great. I would definitely recommend coming here with your friends and family.

Living close to Prohibition Taproom we eat here on a fairly regular basis. The beer selection is good with drink and food specials on the black boards above the bar. The décor is young and trendy. On a quiet night it is a great place to have a beer, dinner and enjoy great conversation with your companion(s). When busy it is a great place to have a beer, dinner and yell back and forth with your companion(s). It does get loud when busy. Everything I have tried off the menu has been very flavorful, fresh and cooked perfectly. I’ve had the pub burger, pork sandwich, fish and chips, and some of the specials as well. It is hard not to order the pub burger each time! Also the deep friend green beans are a treat!

Everything was good but nothing stood out to make me want to come again. The menu is smaller than I would have expected. It may be better for drinks than dinner. The night we were there they were out of a few beers. The music is very loud and it is hard to have a conversation. Nice to experience but I doubt I'll revisit.

What could go wrong with the weekly fried chicken special? The first clue was about 5 minutes after ordering I was told it would take 25 minutes. Should have changed my order then. Second clue was it was gluten free. Nice alternative for those that need it, but gluten-free often means taste free. Chicken arrived as promised about 30 minutes after I ordered, but almost burnt. I should have sent it back, but I didn’t want to wait another 30 minutes for another meal so I ate it. Big mistake since that chicken sat like a lump in my stomach all night. The burgers looked great and the beer selection was good. Just don’t order chicken!

When first entering, it looks like a dive barn with most of the floor empty and a prominent bar, but on closer inspection, prohibition is well maintained and seeking to have dive bar cool combined with very interesting and tasty cuisine as well as a wide selection of beers. The bar is designed to allow groups to speak with each other by its non linear shape. We went from the barnes museum and the contrast was quite fun

Perfect for a causal night out. 12 excellent beers on tap -- some local, some not -- plus a 13th in cask when we were there. Plus another 50 or so in bottles. A very significant selection. Seating at tables for about 50, with room for another 20 at the bar. We ate at the bar, and it was very comfortable. Menu is pub food -- nothing fancy, but some interesting choices. Go for the beer battered green beans as a side. The rice bowl was good, as was the filet-o-sandwich. A little dark, a little funky -- a perfect neighborhood bar that is worth the trip.

We stopped in here just before last call, a time when many bartenders roll their eyes and sigh heavily. But the staff here greeted us warmly and made us feel welcome. The specialty cocktails were perfectly blended and the pours were generous. We didn't have any food, but it looked and smelled great. I highly recommend this groovy neighborhood bar!

I still cant get over how great the food was. We went on a Saturday early evening before it was busy, sat at the bar. Service was really quick for everything! We had the popcorn chicken which is GF (and as someone who is GF, I CANNOT get over how great it was!!!) the tempura green beans and nacho fries. the portions were huge- we were full eating those three apps for 2 of us. The beer selection was great and the happy hour selections were perfect. Love the sour drink and wheat beer on the happy hour menu. My only complaint was how dark it was, but I think that was just the vibe. Id be back if I'm in the area!

Had an excellent dinner including beverages after today's marathon. The beers on tap and menu were just what was needed! Great service and atmosphere.

We arrived for brunch around 1:30 on a Sunday and there was no wait. Unfortunately, the menu that they had posted online was outdated. I enjoyed the fried chicken with French toast and loved the handcut fries. My entrée was $15 and it had 6 servings of French toast plus two servings of fries, plus over a serving of chicken and two eggs. A great value and the service was good too! Tip: Perhaps skip the eggs Benedict. My friend didn't find them as good as other places, due in part to the English muffin which may have been wheat.

On our way from Thanksgiving trip in Philadelphia, I realized I was getting hungry. With 2.5 hrs of driving ahead of us I knew I might get the hangries at some point. I really wanted cheese melt. It was around 8 pm, so my favorite Reading Market was closed...my companion convinced me that eating at an actual place is much better than having dunkin donuts while driving. So we found the taproom and went in. It is a pub, with jolly customers, age groups of late 20s to 30s. The staff was very helpful getting us seated and ordering fast. I had fish and chips and my hubby had ramen. I'm not much for ramen...but my fish was amazing, with delicious batter and flaky, white delicate meat, and clean flavor. Accompanied by delicious fries and and peas, as well as the best tartar sauce I had in USA till date, this was my perfect dinner. The loud and happy chatter of full pub provided perfect backdrop for parting with Philadelphia getaway...

My friend and I were in downtown Philadelphia to visit the Barnes Museum, and sought a nearby place to eat. We walked to Prohibition Taproom, attracted by other reviews and its extensive beer selection. My friend enjoyed the mac & cheese (delicious) and I had the Kielbasa and pierogies, also delicious. Supposedly they were accompanied by sauerkraut, which appeared to be a cold, sour cole slaw. I enjoyed a pear cider while my friend tried two different beers. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, service was great, and we saw a diverse range of people enjoying being their with their friends. It was loud inside, but enjoyable nonetheless.

We recently came here for dinner and drinks before a concert at Union Transfer. It's about 4 blocks away from the venue. Easy walk, but I would definitely suggest sticking to walking along Spring Garden, and not down one of the side streets, as the area between the two locations is a little shady. We sat at the bar. The bartender taking care of us was great. Checked on us regularly, even after the place got packed. The food was very good. I had the lamb and goat cheese grilled cheese sandwich, and it was excellent. Came with a huge serving of fresh cut fries. Way more than I could eat. We also got a side of mac and cheese and beer battered green beans. Both were really good. The menu is small, but everything looked really good. They had several good beers on tap. Several different types including some ciders, which helps appeal to everyone. We arrived around 6:15, and the place was pretty empty, but about 7 or so, the place was packed. It did get a bit overcrowded and was very loud. I don't know if this was normal, or if it was because there was a concert at Union Transfer. If you are coming before a show and want to make sure you have time to eat and have a table, I would suggest coming early.

Favorite place to go for brunch with friends. They always have a great breakfast, with great options to pair either a mimosa or other beer. Enjoy coming here at night to try different beers, the list is always changing and has a great selection available.

We go to media, PA to visit family but always make the trip into Philly to eat here. Great food and the best beers to go with your food. Hubby goes with the steak and eggs and had the coffee stout with it. Cleaned his plate. And a great price. This place is so worth the drive.

Both the beer and food selections here were divine, but the place is pretty small and it was very loud, even on a Tuesday. Make sure you check out the specials menu! That's where I found the tastiest coconut curry mussels!

The first time I went here - I was a little suspicious, but after a few more times - I am a FAN!! The area is questionable, but once inside - you feel so cozy and comfortable. The Beer selection is cool and the food will make you want to come back - FO SHO!! I had the Hot Chili Sauce WIngs and I have also sampled the Grilled Cheese - these didn't disappoint at all. Although the crowd can consist of hipsters - it seems to have a good variety of people that rotate through regularly and they all act appropriately - BIG PLUS!! The staff - super friendly The service - not bad - for a busy place TIP - new place - Fubad - Pizzeria just opened up one block down - so be prepared to wait for seating - really busy these days...

The kind of place you wish existed a few places in every city. Great atmosphere & beer selection w/a decent variety of food. Walked here before a concert @ Union Transfer & would be happy to be a repeat customer.

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon with my husband and a bit disappointed. Bartenders had zero personality. Not impressed by the beer list either. Too many other options so definitely won't return

Loved the atmosphere and how much bar space there was, though it wasn't overly crowded when we went there in the evening. Fries were awesome. Would love to try some of the other menu items.

Great service and a fun ambiance as well. We stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night before a show at the Union Transfer and snagged the last open table inside. The server was there right away to take our order. The drinks were amazing and the food was really good too. I ordered my burger medium but it was much closer to rare in the middle so I ate around it but didn’t say anything to the server because it didn’t bother me too much. When he came to clear our plates he noticed that the very red middle of the burger was left on my plate and apologized that it was under done. When he brought the check he comped us for one of our drinks to make up for it (even though we never complained). It is hard to find service like this these days!!! The crowd here is younger than I expected but we had a great time. 10/10 would recommend.

Ate here with my hubby on a Friday night. The staff was very friendly and attentive, the food was really good, and loved the beer selection. I loved the atmosphere of the place!

Decent selection of local and domestic drinks, good quality food and great happy hour prices. Staying at an Airbnb across the street and will likely call this place home base for the time we're in Philly.

Decided to stop here for dinner and drinks before going to Mayer Hawthorne concert at Union Transfer. We had the macaroni and cheese which was excellent had a nice tang to it, also fish and chips, which was good, Craft beer list was good and priced reasonably. Good stop before a show.

Off the beaten tracks of Philadelphia is a gem of a foodie place. Extensive beer menu, great burgers, down home menu and reasonable prices. Ask for the daily specials always a treat. Owner's name is Mike and our waitress was Mary Jane. Philly has many great gems and this is definitely one of them. We took our college kid here because of the younger vibe. You might even want to try the gourmet grilled cheese sandwich.

A bar with a classy design and a premiere selection of bottled and canned beer to go with their respectable draft list. They carry Avery Brewery's The Reverend. Therefor they are good people.

Family went here for dinner when in town for a wedding. No reservations but easy to get a table for 5 at 7:30 pm. Ordered Cobb salad and pickled vegetables to share with table as appetizer, as well as a skillet of Macaroni and cheese. Good choice. For mains, three had hamburgers and two had fish and chips. Hamburgers were great... some of the best we have had. Fries OK, a bit salty and not as crispy as one would expect given how thin they were.

I have to give this place a 5 for just the beers on tap. They have a have a decent menu but I wasn't hungry. Great atmosphere although off the beaten path off 13th street.

Exploring the bar scene in philly and I'm so happy I stumbled across this gem. Prohibition has a huge selection of craft beers, the fried green beans were crazy addictive, and the service was excellent. The edison bulbs hanging over the bar were a nice touch - will definitely be back again.

I've been to Pro Tap twice now and have eaten both times. The menu is a little limited as some have previously stated, however this isn't your standard bar room food. The calamari is very good. We had the chick pea fries on the latest visit and they were interesting and tasty with a curry sauce. The Pro Tap Burger is very good with a generous amount of shoe string fries. I had the fish & chips which was also very good with thick cut fries. Salads are tasty, albeit a little odd served basically with an entire head of uncut romaine (including the unappetizing stem). Beer selection is excellent in both bottles/cans and draft. Atmosphere is small, dark, and cozy with a cool vibe. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. My only gripe is that, while the food quality is excellent, it is quite expensive and the portion sizes are small. $16 for fish & chips for example which would be spilling off the plate anywhere else. $15 cheeseburger is steep. Party of three for lunch with two beers each was $105 with the tip. I would give Pro Tap five stars if it weren't for price and quantity, but you won't be disappointed in quality.

My husband and I first noticed the Prohibition Taproom when we were exploring the area near where our daughter has choir practice. The beer selection is awesome and changes weekly which was one of the first things we loved about this place. It's a small with some tables for dining and is usually bustling with people even on a week night. We eventually decided to try the food as we saw and smelled what was coming out of the kitchen! We have not been disappointed with anything we've tried so far. There isn't a huge menu but there are always specials and a great happy hour menu. There's no frozen mozzarella sticks or pizza rolls here - we're talking well prepared, fresh food made to order. Chimichangas were out of this world on Tuesday night! I would say that the food may get overlooked here because of the bar atmosphere but definitely get something to eat with your craft beer. You will not be disappointed. We also want to give a shout out to Rich, our bartender, who is always friendly and happy to chat with you. The Prohibition Taproom is making our hour and half choir practice wait a much more pleasurable experience and we've very happy to have found it!

Came here with a local colleague (I'm from UK). I thought that even though this place is off the beaten track of non-Philadelphians, it was a great place to seek out; great atmosphere, really good hoppy micro brews and great food. Service was really excellent too. Would definitely come here again!

Friendly bartenders and a variety of beers, wines, liquors and finger foods. Cool atmosphere, and old time decor. Plenty of off street parking. Happy Hour 5-7 PM.

We stopped in on a recent Sunday afternoon, doing a late lunch/early dinner kind of thing, and found that they still had their Sunday brunch menu going at 3pm on Sunday. It worked out just fine, and gave us some good selections. Between the 5 of us in our group, we tried their hamburger, chicken frittata, veggie cuban, and their "fried chicken, french toast & sunny eggs" meal. All of the dishes were served with their french fries, which are really more like steak frites that you get at a French restaurant. They are thin & curly, well seasoned & delicious. Overall, the food was wonderful - very well seasoned, and interesting combination of flavors. They also had a nice selection of craft brews (hefeweisen, IPA, hard cider, etc....), which seemed to be from local microbreweries such as Yards and Wyndridge, along with others. The atmosphere is very hipster/divey kind of place, with some good soul music playing in the background. The service was very good - our server was very quick to bring fresh water to the table, as well as to check on if we needed anything. This is a place that will stay on my list of good places for food & beers when in Philly.
Excellent po boy
We stopped because it was close to the hotel. Great po boy, and app's. Nice place with good service. Voices echo and it seemed very loud for the amount of people. Limited seating other then the bar
