You gotta check out the breakfast menu! Pork belly and watermelon salad? I loved it! They roast their own coffee! I'm on a no-coffee kick right now, so I can't report on that. But I'm noticing tea offerings these days and Proud Mary has the most interesting selection of teas I have run across outside a dedicated tea purveyor. Wow! The flavors! Of everything! And the presentation! These guys rock! I'm coming back to try everything on the menu! Would be a great place to hangout half the day. Nice space. I wish they would have come back around though to check on me for that tea water refresh they promised. Oh, and you gotta love the Aussie accents!

This place really is as good as it gets: beautiful space, friendly staff, interesting and hard to find coffees (and you can order a flight to taste the differences). And THE FOOD! People may think of this as a coffee shop, but all the food is so delicious, and beautifully presented. The names aren't pretentious (avocado succotash, potato hash, spring cassoulet, etc), but the dishes are to die for. Check out the menu to see descriptions, but they still won't do it justice. We were in Portland for a week, and eating great food at different well-recommended restaurants once or twice a day, but after eating at Proud Mary, we came back again the next day! (That was our last day, or we probably would have gone a third time!)

Proud mary is a nice restaurant with good food. I came here with my friends for brunch. Love the food presentation too. You may have to wait to 10 -15 minutes to get a table but worth it.

Love the coffee options, hash browns and avocado toast is the best i have had. As always, amazing food and service, will continue to come back.

We were about to leave Portland and our 1st option was too busy so we decided to try Proud Mary.....best thing ever! Atmosphere is nice and we seated in front of the kitchen. super clean and pleasant Our dish was unique and later on we order an yogurt made with lemons and fruits! Spetacular!!!! Highly recommended~!

We had a killer breakfast here and the most delicious coffee. The avocado toast was fabulous and varies from day to day with whatever is in season and local. Loved it!

You tell me: Two small, poched eggs, one strip of bacon, shreded potatoes, sauce and some salad...$16.00! Every cup of coffee after the first is $2.50 more, so my 3 cups were $7.50. We three had the "Never, Ever Again" conversation all the way to our next destination. Nice people, but outrageously unethical pricing. Terrible....

Went for quick breakfast. Had their drip coffee which was good just wish you could get refills. My husband got the toasted egg and bacon sandwich which he liked. Walk up and order at the counter or can pre order online. Will order one of their specialty coffees next time we stop by. Serve breakfast and lunch items. Several tables on sidewalk to eat at. Must wear mask to order or to pick up food.

High expectations, good results (not outstanding) but TERRIBLE service across the journey, honestly speaking long delays with the exception of the bill.

The sister cafe to the iconic cafe in Melbourne Australia, Proud Mary in Portland Oregon is a slice of Australia in the Pacific North West of the USA. The owner of Proud Mary in Australia opened up here 4 months ago and I can’t tell you how GREAT THE COFFEE IS!!! Seriously. A “long black” (Americano) that needs no sweetener at all is a true sign of perfection and this place delivers!! Most staff here are Australian, head chef, head barista, manager, some wait staff... all make for a true taste of Aus. I had the ricotta pancake which was utterly delicious and beautiful to look at!!! My husband had the potato hash which was sooooo light and super tasty. The sides of eggs and bacon and sausage (incredible). The venue is sleek and open and industrial like the sister site. It’s funky and the staff are great. I can tell you this is the best breakfast I’ve had in Portland to date. The execution of everything here is spot on. We left feeling full but not weighed down like I do often do when dining in many typical American diners or cafes or restaurants. It’s all due to the way the Aussie chef prepares and cooks the food here. Not greasy or oily just fresh and clean. I will be taking all my friends here for sure. Do yourself a favour and try something different. I’m sure t won’t be to everyone’s liking as you’ll see the coffee is much richer and fuller but it is how it should be!!

Great brunch for all!!! Loved the avocado toast, best in town. Very busy on weekends but worth the wait

This place was super friendly from the time I walked in. The hostess was nice. I was just going in for a tea and a gluten-free something sweet in the morning to-go. Chocolate Peanut Butter Caramel Cake did NOT disappoint. Gluten-free and Vegan. It was so moist and not like a lot of GF items I find. The icing was to die for itself!

Fabulous place, such an Aussie vibe here, even a Pomme could appreciate it. Great coffee, ingenious flavour combinations. Friendly and reasonably priced, for what was exquisite food. Would highly recommend... The sausages rolls were too die for. Book if planning on going on a busy day!

Very good breakfast. Fantastic coffee. Morgan was a great barista. Very knowledgeable and surper fast. Thanks for the recommendations. We will be back.

We stayed at an Airbnb in the Alberta Arts District and our host told us about this great place that had just opened up. We were hungry for brunch, but when we tried to find it, we couldn't at first. Thankfully, we happened upon it after a bit of walking (NE 22nd and Alberta), and we were so happy we did! The signage is a bit understated, but the food and the service was worth the extra time it took to find the place. The atmosphere is hip and happy, high ceilings, modern, airy, contemporary with a hint of rustic. They roast their own coffee in the back and the service (especially our server, Lindsay, was just awesome. They really care about making you happy! It was my daughter's 25th birthday and without any prompting, Lindsay brought out the most adorable and delicious little flour-less chocolate cake with white chocolate/beet root icing, sporting a candle, while the Birthday Song played overhead! We all loved our selections - we had the Avocado Succotash which was so big and yummy with Jordan's organic Sour Dough Bread, the Free Range Eggs on Toast, and A Toast to the Producers which was out of this world, especially if you are a truffle addict like we are!!!!! Highly recommended! The Chef takes extra care to make everything fresh and delicious, and he nails it! My only complaint is that they are located in Portland, Oregon and not Washington State! If they opened up a shop on San Juan Island where I live, I'd eat there every day!

Coffee is probably my biggest vice these days and Proud Mary didn't let me down! Awesome caffeine - they delivered two perfect flat-whites to my spot at the bar - and friendly service make this a great place to hang out. The space is a light-filled, white-walled, urban spot with plenty of warm touches and a mouth-watering selection of pastries. As we were there over lunch, my wife had an excellent scrambled egg dish and I had a top notch Aussie steak pie. if you're in Portland, swing by and try this place out!

I have to agree with the other reviewers who make note of how loud it is here. I certainly wonder why. Perhaps because after waiting an hour for a table at brunch the guests have talked about all they have on their minds and don't care if anyone can hear them while eating. With an uber-hip environment and menu, the food is okay and it is located on a vibrant street of shop and restaurants.

As we entered, the host was friendly and efficient. We were seated in no time. The waitress was very accommodating and helpful in explaining options for those of us with dietary issues. The French Toast was almost too beautiful to eat, but very good.

We came here after some AM chores for an unplanned brunch visit (since we were in the area). We didn't have reservations so had a to weight a bit. I was surprised how large the place wise (the tiny hallway hides a bigger 'back room' by the kitchen). I thought their portion sizes were pretty decent. The pork bun was very good. The Aussie pie was so-so (in Whistler, there's an Aussie pie place with better pies). My friend was previously here and loved the crab omelette (definitely something I'll order next time we come here).

We visited this place from Australia. We went there as we were missing Australian coffee. Their coffee wasn’t great so we headed down the road to Barista and the coffee there was much better. They also couldn’t manage a wait line to save their life. They said it would take 35 mins and after an hour and watched them seat multiple parties who arrived after us. When we asked the front of house, they explained larger parties have priority over parties of two. What a joke. If you are wanting a good coffee, head down to the much less pretentious Barista!

Creative, fresh and healthy-ish menu. I had a hard time choosing but went with the Potato Hash. Outstanding flavors with a mouth-watering sauce and a perfectly poached egg. My colleague had the Duck Cassoulet and she raved about her dish as well. Great coffee to boot. I will definitely be back!

It is difficult to rate my experience at this establishment. A wall of noise is the first thing that greets you when you walk into the space. Music throbbing from speakers placed all along one wall plus patrons and servers shouting at one another in order to be heard creates the noise. That being said, the food was innovative and absolutely delicious. The coffee was good but not better than can be procured at any number of quality establishments. I found it odd that the coffee beans I purchased at a premium price were roasted in and shipped from Australia, not produced locally in Portland!

Place is really good and food are amazing, If u are going with 6 or 7 people be mind pre reserve table otherwise u will have wait at line before enter especially on weekends. It’s nice place with slight music playing on background.

We drove across town for Sunday brunch and it was worth it. The service and food were spectacular, the menu choices were unusual and eclectic and it kicked brekkies up to a whole new level.

Sunday brunch was superb. No extensive bar, and no beer but nice Bloody Mary and Mimosa. The service is as good as it gets and the food presentation is artistic and delightful. Highly recommended.

I had one of the worst breakfast’s of my life here. The avocado toast was trying way too hard to be something it’s not, but the “pancake” wasn’t even edible. It was sweeter than a cake. I have to admit it looked nice, but it was one of the worst things I have ever been served at a restaurant in my life. We barely touched it. The service was also quite slow and not very friendly.

OMG. In what seems like far away from the happening areas is this amazing place. A fury of activity with hoards of hungry fashionable Portlanders arriving in Subarus. Yes, there is a considerable wait though less than at home in LA so not a big deal. The staff was kind to us invading foreigners from the South. We were so lucky to be seated at the counter! We got a meal AND a show. The baristas fly around doing a wonderful dance concocting amazing coffee drinks and no one is injured in the process! These folks live coffee. I watch them smelling, tasting and measuring the grinds to make sure it’s just right every time. Our barista was there on her last day... been there several years. They will miss her! I had an expensive pour over... loved it and would have it again in a second. I had the hash brown breakfast. Everything on that plate was the best thing I ever ate! I have no idea why but wow was that delicious. My honey had the crab omelette. She loved it. I did too but prefer my orgasmic hash brown dish. We took a magic mocha to go and planned the day... and our return to this place!

Probably designed to appeal to young, hip crowd, especially parents with young children - there is a good range of toys for toddlers to play with. The food and service were fine, but the industrial chic and the loud music makes it deafening.

We arrived when they opened on a Wednesday morning. I ordered the toast and egg and my husband ordered avo toast and then a sausage roll. The food was very good and the service was good. They serve a variety of coffee and tea which is good. We would recommend this place. They also are handicapped assessible which is great for us.

We read this somewhat new restaurant was named a Top 50 in the U.S. by Bon Appetit magazine. Its an Aussie style breakfast -coffee cafe. I believe they close in the late afternoon.Besides having unique fantastic dishes, they have a cool interior too.I heard you better get reservations even Monday thru Friday to get in .That was true and its even more difficult to get in on a weekend. There were 4 of us and we found it to be very comfortable when seated .I did not think it was loud just normal conversation buzz of happy customers. We like to try acclaimed eateries around Portland. Proud Mary is truly unique with its breakfast/lunch menu. We got 4 different dishes: all were fantastic ! Love their types of coffee too.

It is a cute little place but the food is just kind of mediocre, however they have good prompt service and good coffee. I would maybe go back at some point if I am in the area.

What a surprise! This rates as one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. Avocado Toast with poached egg was unique and delicious and abundant. Sooooo good! I’m definitely going back. Big thumbs up! Great vibe too!

I live near this place, went with the Fam to get a coffee and try out. However was quite dissapoonted by server’s attitude, not welcoming. It is quite confusing how to order a coffee in there, and the server was not gentle at all to explain, but more treating us with some rudness as if we should know... My feeling was they want to make it very classy, but it ends up being an uncomfortable and snobby atmosphere more than anything. Definetely not to be considered a real local portland restaurant, coffee place.

Long overdue review. Had a late breakfast a little over a month ago. Best coffee ever. I loved their French Toast. It's to die for. The toppings were awesome especially the crunchy topping. My husband had the Hash in Hand and loved it. We took home a sampling of their desserts and loved all of them.

I had a hard time finding Proud Mary. They did not have a sign outside. Luckily I had the address and figured it out! The staff and food are very Australian. This is the first location outside of Down under. And, they live up to what they say from their website: We love what we do and in true Australian-style we have a genuine, warm, fun and sometimes a little bit cheeky nature and can't wait to spoil our customers! Although the food is a bit "different", all of us liked what we ordered and the coffee is outstanding.

Yes, some tasty dishes (ghosty beef shin grilled cheese toasty + cauli-town) but unfortunately got some 2️⃣🆒4️⃣🏫 attitude. Ah vell.

Disappointed at the decline in food quality and staff insensitivity. I have been going to Proud Mary since it opened. I always marveled at the great coffee and the food, hash brown as a fine example. The coffee is still great, however the quality of the food has declined considerably. Maybe the owner needs to give this part of his business more attention. I heard he believes business grow by word of mouth. They can also fail through word of mouth. Secondly, the male hostess seems to be got up in his own ego, and not in a good way. I heard him tell a customer who was complaining about the volume of the background music, “ nobody else is complaining “. Then the guy walked out and I don’t blame him. How insensitive can you be?

We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast at this hip outpost of the Australian chain. The Avo Toast was loaded with perfect avocado, fresh cucumbers, radishes and snap peas, bright greens, goat cheese and nicely seasoned to boot. The Potato Hash was really a bacon and kale salad sitting atop perfectly browned shredded potatoes swimming in bagna cauda. Amazing.

There were five of us, we all ordered different items and we shared our breakfasts. We could not stop talking about the BEAUTY of the food, the quality and the FLAVOR. My avocado toast had taste through and through with crunchy veg and some delicious savory herb oil. A poached egg on the side was delicious. Seatmate had the best bacon I've ever eaten and a picture perfect fried egg with that crusty edge you dream about. I seriously wanted to steal it or shout "give me what she is having." And the oatmeal, oh my lord did we all love the vanilla infused oatmeal made with coconut milk with the most gorgeous roasted pear and mixed nuts. Spoons went in that bowl again and again. But the PANCAKE blew us away...orange and ricotta and syrup that had a million flavors and I don't know what that was but I will dream of it until I am in Portland again. This is remarkable food and worth whatever they charge. Living in Alaska, I don't much care what great food costs. It's a treat and it's made with love at Proud Mary. You can just tell. Our server was great, we were so comfortable at our big corner booth and had plenty of time to catch up as we were all old friends from different cities and we felt so welcome and ease.

Their brunch is one of the best in town. The food is top notch and the coffee is fantastic. You'd be hard-pressed not to be very happy with any of their menu items.

Ate here 4 times during a week long vacation to Portland. Food and coffee are both thought about and prepared very well. We had lattes, cappos, a pour-over (SL28 rocks), and a smoothie along with several food items. I don't give many fives but this place hits top numbers for food, coffee, and service.

As a Collingwood couple our favourite Melbourne coffee and lunch spot is Proud Mary. So pleased to report that Nolan has done a superb job in transferring his excellence to Portland. In our five weeks in the USA there was nothing that came close to the Proud Mary standard. And if Austin Texas is lucky then another Proud Mary will be on the scene before too long. If you like Melbourne great coffee try Proud Mary.

Our experience was just as we expected because we are familiar with Proud in Melbourne. We had the Potato hash and it certainly did not disappoint....possibly a tad or so better (or maybe we were extra hungry!). Loved the coffees ..the best so far on a 3 week trip! Thanks to the wonderful staff who helped enrich our experience! Kate

Went here for brunch on Monday with my husband and daughter and it was so fantastic, we could not resist going back the next day. I had the Ricotta Hotcake. The flavor was awesome and the hotcake was light and airy. The next day, I had the oatmeal and loved it. The flavor of both dishes were refreshing, balanced, clean and refreshing. My husband had the Avo Toast one day and the BÁNH MÌ the next. Both were delicious beyond words. The Bahn Mi includes pressed pork rib. I am not a particular fan of pork but my husband kept telling me how good it was and convienced me to try it. Oh my word, I loved it. It was sooooooooooooooo good. Their coffee is the best too. Service was prompt, efficient and very friendly. I highly recommend.

A taste of home for Aussies, with 👌 coffee and delicious cafe fare. You can pick up your Vegemite on the way out

Long overdue review. Went here for brunch and it was just ok. Cute place, ok service, prices a tad high for what you get dungeness crab was just ok cauliflower dish so so coffee super good We are healthy eaters and this is not for us.

If you like a good cup of coffee with a creative and delicious breakfast, this is a place you should try. They also have very good and healthy smoothies that I like to start with as I peruse the menu. They change out some of the dishes pretty frequently which I like, keeping me impressed with the taste and the playing style. I’ve always had good service here, the waiters are helpful and friendly.

Pour over coffee sample $19...got cold fast and not very good at that point. Had hash browns and poached egg...only OK...don’t think I’ll be back

Taken here by a friend (who had yet to try it), to kick off my annual week-long trip in from NY. This Aussie import is every bit worth the buzz and locals will likely fall in love and become regulars. The space, aesthetics, service, knowledge about coffee, drinks and food are all impeccable. The potato hash was perhaps one of THE best breakfasts I’ve had - ever.

The Good: The food was fabulous! I love a really different breakfast and Proud Mary's did not disappoint! The array of coffee choices was dizzying and delightful! The Bad: As tourist, the prices for breakfast and coffee seemed very high to me, and I'm not used to paying for refills. I suspect that is the norm in a coffee town like Portland, but it seemed like a lot to pay for breakfast ---- even a really GREAT breakfast! The Ugly: Not a thing. Overall, we give a full 5 stars to Proud Mary's! If we ever get back to Portland, I'll be back to Proud Mary's!

Great breakfast. Fresh ingredients and the taste are wonderful. Good service. Good coffee. And nice selection. Will go agin when in the area

It's like Christmas morning in the form of food. Words can't really explain how amazing this place is! My family and I went to Proud Mary's for our birthday brunch and simply couldn't stop talking about how amazing our experience was. Be prepared, there is likely ALWAYS going to be a line/wait but it is well worth it! It's always a bit of a gamble when there is a long wait, hoping its THAT good... well it is!! The atmosphere is fun and inviting. It is a bit different in the sense that there are some shared tables, it's cool, make new friends!! Each family member had a different dish and each one was simply delicious. The flavors, rich ingredients and true art from the chefs was apparent and lend itself to the fact that this is probably one of the best brunches I've ever had. Menu is full of many different options from sweet to savory, all of which you want to try a bite of each!! Bloody Mary was so good, oatmeal was out of this world, pancakes were perfect and that is barely scratching the surface. Rose was our waitress and she was wonderful. Super kind and really sweet. At the end of our meal we were all so impressed that we went up to the chefs in the cool open kitchen set up to not only thank them for sharing their amazing art but also to give them a standing ovation!! Don't take my word for it, go try it for yourself. You won't be sorry!

I wanted to like this place so much because it came on a recommendation and the ambience was so awesome. Still, the food was mediocre. For a place that prides itself on its coffee, the coffee was not very good. My husband ordered the "lightest roast" and it tasted bitter and just like any other average or Starbucks cup of coffee you would buy. The potato hash reminded me of a greasy diner hashed brown dressed up with some vegetables to make it look fancier. My husband thought his entree was "OK." We wouldn't go back.

Ok, full disclosure: I have been to Oz - otherwise known as Australia. And I love... adore that country! But, I do not so much remember loving the food. It does matter where you are in Australia and so I will have to revisit. In Portland, there is a new Australian joint on Alberta which happens to be central to all that is hip and trendy in this frenetically expanding city. It was a Sunday, 11a and packed to the gills with hipsters. That was not its selling point, but neither was the peculiar music set at too high a decibel. It added to the cacaphony. We sat at a big table at the back, all 9 of us, and ordered lattes, chai, green drinks and a flat white. We ate poached eggs, Oz style bacon, stuffed hashbrowns drizzled in sauce similar to hollandaise. The most beautiful plate I witnessed was the ricotta hotcakes- which btw, I will be returning for. The coffee was off the hook and gave me a caffiene kick right in the face that I felt all day. Worth it. Here's the deal- it is not cheap eats. Australia is priced somewhere between double and triple American fare and the owners brought the quality and the cost increase with them. This is not a down side though, as I believe we get what we pay for and you are what you eat. So... eat quality, eh mate? Side note: accents are the best part of breakfast;)

Great atmosphere; really friendly staff and a good range of brunch options. Really popular esp at weekends so go early!

Portland is filled with brunch places, but few achieve the creativity and deliciousness of Proud Mary. Sure, you have your choice of greasy, bland, and uninspiring joints, but this place is top-to-bottom the best breakfast/brunch/lunch place in our city. Great coffee? Check. Great tea? Check. Fresh Pressed Juices? Check. Pastries? Check. Fresh, Heathy, Delicious, Creative food options? Check. Service? Incredible (something that is normally lacking in Portland)!!!! I have eaten here more than 10 times in the past six months. It seems to have gotten better each time. Will you have to wait? Maybe. Portland is lucky to have Proud Mary, they have in a very short period of time ascended to the top of my list of recommended breakfast/brunch/lunch places in the whole city.

It's all heavenly... but his avowed toast is a puppy of heaven. Service is super pro, but at the same time so relaxed without falling for the basics. I think it's definitely and will be my favorite breakfast place.

The best ice cream! Incredibly unique flavors. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Don't let the line scare you away.

Wouldn't have been my first pick~ but my wife in on the Keto program so we ate there. The food was perfect for her and she said it was very tasty. I found something on the menu which I found to be a little spicy but overall not bad. Again, if you are on the Keto program~this is the place for you!

Beautiful space. Great service. Polenta with mushrooms was delicious. Potato hash was just OK but probably would have been delicious with the sauce which I couldn’t have. Two different oolong teas were amazing.

First outlet in the USA for this Melbourne based business. Excellent range of breakfast options, all freshly prepared and very, very tasty. Lovely, friendly staff and great coffee! Such a treat to find somewhere offering a flat white!
A delightful find
My wife and I stopped here for breakfast. We don't drink coffee, so I can't speak to that. It prides itself on great vegan options. If your into heavy meat laden breakfast, please move on. If you appreciate great service and a unique culinary menu, please stop by. I ordered the hotcake, and it was lovely. Judging by the picture alone, you will have to agree it was very unique.
