We visit Provisional Kitchen for lunch/brunch every time we are in the neighborhood. Not only the food is consistently great but the staff are very friendly and helpful. Our favorite server is Maira who is very attentive, kind, and provides quick service. She’s one of the best servers we’ve encountered in any restaurant in a long time. The ambience is also very comfortable and welcoming. Highly recommend when you visit downtown SD, and don’t forget to order tater tots and the “secret” house salsa with your eggs!

Cande did a great job in answering our menu questions thoughtfully. Made frequent visits to our table to ensure we taken care of as well.

Visited here last night for my birthday. Lovely fennel bolognese and cheese cake for pudding. Super atmosphere definitely a bit special and friendly attentive staff.

Booked a 6 day stay at the Pendry San Diego. As part of my booking, daily breakfast for two was included with the Provisional as an option. The food was DELICIOUS so we started every morning there. The staff was also nice. I highly recommend it!

First, let’s discuss the value. Paired wines and chef’s tasting, as well as the servers; for such a fair price? Food was delectable and we do not do degustsrions. Thought servers were exceptional. What Errol meal and experience.

We stayed at the pendry with my giant family for a week - fun chaos with friends and family and lots of kids - and Provisional was absolutely incredible. So many names of folks that made us feel special and welcomed and at home. One in particular - Jessi - greeted us every day with a huge smile and made us feel celebrated and VIP for our big week. Thank you Jessi and team!

We had breakfast...split the fruit plate and the pastries...perfect start for our day. Three croissants, chocolate, almond and plain were flaky perfection, and the plentiful fruit sustained us through our morning in Balboa Park.

Cande was awesome and food was great. Best hollindaise sauce I’ve ever had. Tea was fresh brewed. Worth the tab.

The service I received from The Provisional Kitchen was NOT aligned with the service received from The Pendry personnel. The booth was not thoroughly cleaned and the floor was cruddy. The man who appeared to be the manager passed my booth at least three (3) times and did not acknowledge my presence. Plus the service was extremely slow. My burger and salad was delicious; however, I would never recommend this restaurant to The Pendry guests (tourists or passerby). Note, I did not make mention of the aforementioned during my stay at The Pendry because I did not want this one instance ruin my Pendry experience.

Our server Cande was excellent! I will definitely come back. Food was excellent especially the breakfast pizza and my girls had three bottles of Prosecco. Unbelievable.

Me and my sister come for the first time, and we like to place. It’s easy to reserve online on a Saturday before we head out from home. We love the atmosphere and brunch very much! The breakfast pizza is more delicious than we thought. Truly recommend this place!

My fiancé and I are big fans of the Pendry San Diego, we stay out here everytime we visit the area and one of the biggest reasons… the brunch! Provisional is such a well done restaurant. Reservations recommended for inside seating, but the terrace is great too! Caxide helped us this trip and service was great. Super helpful when I was indecisive about switching up my usual order. Chilaquiles are incredible! My fiancé loved his cacio e pepe toast.

Candelario was great and very attentive! I’ll make sure and come back and ask for his table. He even shared the Thursday dinner special!

I recently stayed at a nearby hotel and had dinner reservations at a different restaurant downtown. However, my friend and I wanted to stay close to our hotel and didn't want to walk a long ways. We came across the Provisional Kitchen inside the Pendry Hotel. From the moment you walk in, such elegance is presented. The staff was beyond exceptional! The dinner was incredible. As a Trip Advisor Ambassador, it takes a lot for me to write a review. However, it would be a shame to not give Provisional Kitchen the reputation and review it deserves. It is my distinct pleasure to highly recommend this restaurant. I cannot wait to stay at the hotel the next time I am in San Diego.

Randomly walked by and decided to try this place. One of the best breakfast we’ve have, so fresh and delicious! Our waiter Caxire was amazing! Super kind and friendly! Got us a treat for our anniversary celebration!

Before selecting this restaurant for dinner, I walked around a 3 block radius, reading menus, and viewing restaurants. I selected this restaurant because it appeared to offer a nice quiet environment, and moderate prices. After dining, Provisional delivered excellent service, quality food, nice European ambiance and restaurant decor, moderate prices, and great value.. For the Value (price, service, food quality, ambiance, more), I highly recommend this restaurant, especially tourists. I am a tourist in San Diego (first time in San Diego in 20 years), and should I return to San Diego, I would definitely dine here again.

I am gf/df and the restaurant was able to fully accommodate my restrictions. We both thought the food was great. Cande, our waiter was fantastic. He was personable, attentive and got everything we ordered ( even with modifications) correct, which was appreciated.

The food was excellent and the outside seating area had a nice ambience. The staff very friendly; Jessi in particular was so welcoming and made our day.

I have come multiple times to this restaurant and I live it so much!! I have been here for brunch, lunch, dinner and dates and the staff is amazing! They have live music and a large variety of drinks. They are super accommodating and always so above and beyond!! Shout out to Jessi and Denisse who helped me out on my last visit. They are amazing and super attentive, making sure I was satisfied with my food or just stopping by to have a chat. Definitely coming back in the future!

Our restaurant week meal was delicious. First course was a big bowl of Jerusalem artichokes...something new to try. They tasted so good the 2 of us gobbled them down...BIG Mistake! They should be a garnish and eaten only in small amounts. I felt like we were part of a practical joke

Went here because my friends loved the place. It has great atmosphere and good service. The place is really nice and the staff are also very nice. The food is decent. We got the egg benedict, burger, and the pizza. They were delicious. However, the portions were small and the price was a bit high. So not the best value. Also, our table was very sticky which I had to clean. Still a great place to enjoy a good meal. PS Parking can be annoying make sure to find public parking-

Somehow after a very stressful check in process with the front desk where they wouldn’t allow a hotel guests to do basic things like go to breakfast( included) we were lucky enough to find Cande. He made breakfast/ brunch worth staying at the Pendry. Money well spent because of one human being ❤️ it may be the bottomless mimosas at this point but truly the Pendry may just have redeemed it self at this point because Cande was so incredible.

Beautiful interior, and outdoor seating. The atmosphere of this place is fantastic. We quite enjoyed the breakfast here. There is an option to get an ostrich egg sunny side up, which we did not go for, but also plenty of other choices on the menu. Wait staff was wonderful and I would highly recommend visiting.

Delicious, beautiful room, reasonable prices. To start, we had a fruit plate. Then, I had the everything fry bread with smoked salmon, and my mom had a build your own omelette. Also had a very refreshing juice with carrot, ginger, turmeric, and orange. Our server Cande was professional and friendly.

Thursday Date Night Dinner was amazing. We were visiting SD and wandering around the Gaslamp Quarter looking for a nice place to celebrate a birthday. So happy we landed here. Service and food were excellent and the musician playing was so great!

Lovely open space and very good food for brunch. I had two brunches here recently and enjoyed both. One was a basic yogurt parfait, and all the ingredients were excellent. A bit on the expensive side for yogurt and granola and a few berries, but good. Only real issue was the live music, which I hate to complain about because the singers were very good, but really could not have a conversation at the same time, and that was the reason we went to brunch together.

Walked from our hotel to provisional. Seated outside at once and served our drinks right away. Our server was there right away to take our order and provided excellent service through the entire stay.

Provisional is a wonderful 3 meal a day restaurant. I typically enjoy breakfast/brunch here when staying at Pendry. My favorite dishes are the breakfast pizza and the Provisional breakfast sandwich. This outlet is beautifully appointment (I can not wait for indoor dining to return to CA!). They are setup and prepared for perfect service, complying with the new covid serving guidelines. The staff (as with all departments in Pendry) are friendly, welcoming and anticipate your needs. Provisional GM Elizabeth Blanco is a super star!

Could not have asked for a better experience!! My wife and I have a great time on our date and it could not have been better if it had not been for our waiter Cande who was very friend and helped us choose the best meal ever! Would definitely recommend Provisional for anyone looking for great food and great service.

From the great welcome from Fernanda to Claire’s amazing introduction to serve us, we were delighted. The food was amazingly delicious. The presentation was extraordinary! A very good dinner before a show at the Old Globe. The restaurant is in a great spot in Balboa Park, the outdoor seating area is gorgeous, the service was warm and attentive, and our food was very good.

This spot is one of the more upscale restaurants in Gaslamp, the food is amazing, and a wide selection of upscale craft cocktails you can enjoy outside in the beautiful weather. The indoors is beautifully decorated as well. Service was exceptional, especially Jessi who went above and beyond to provide an amazing experience. Highly recommend treating yourself with a visit here.

Excellent service. Delicious food. Beautiful ambiance. Maira was our server and she made the experience incredible. We ordered the breakfast pizza which was delicious, well balanced, and satisfying without being too heavy. We also had the churro French toast which was tasty - crunchy on the outside but fluffy and creamy on the inside, and not too sweet either!

Wow. Coming from the service industry capital… Provisional blew us out of the water! Cande and his team were incredible! The food was top notch and service even better. Bottomless mimosas, bloody Mary’s, and juice cocktails were to die for. We had the cacio e Pepe toast to share and it was so fluffy and yummy. Then we ordered the breakfast pizza to share and it was equally as incredible.

Definitely the best place we ate in San Diego. From the moment you arrive you see the careful decoration, which together with the pleasant ambience music and attentive service, you know will be a good experience. The menu is suitable for all tastes. In our case we ordered for 4 the basket of bread and pastries (croissant, muffins...), eggs Benedictine, avocado toast and French toast. Everything was delicious.

Came for my husband’s birthday breakfast before going to the Padres game. Cande was our awesome server who gave some complimentary drinks and a birthday cake treat for my husband. Love the aesthetic at Provisional too!

Beautiful space, but slow service, three servers checked in with me but my main server was largely absent, breakfast burrito was large and had good (very mild) flavor, but soggy from sitting in its own juice, “cold pressed juices” are not pressed fresh on-site, but are bottled products. Given website, I was expecting a more innovative menu involving fruit and vegetables more prominently. Menu items were not focused on freshness.

We ended up here as there was a line at Breakfast Republic! I am glad we did come here….. The restaurant was amazing , what makes it amazing is the staff. From the hostess to the server and the manager! Everyone genuinely cares and wants to make sure you have a good time. We had pancakes and egg white omelette with toast and side of their potatoes. We also had the Chamomile Tea and Latte which were both excellent. Go here if you want a nice time with your partner or spouse! It’s classy, it’s quiet and one can have a good time.

Absolutely stunning restaurant. We ordered cadillac margaritas that were $16/each, a very fair price. Amanda was our waitress and was outstanding. My husband ordered the salmon that he said was delicious. I ordered the yellowtail which was just okay, it was a little dry. They treated us to a small dessert which was delicious. All in all we had a lovely evening.

I am not over-stating that you can do better at a souped-up Denny's. I took my family to the restaurant for Christmas. The bill for three people was $398.00, which is about what we would spend at Georges, or other nice restaurant. HOWEVER, what an absolute disappointment! First of all, the server was good, and we appreciated him. The manager was not happy or attentive, and walked around like she didn't want to be there, at all. The Food: Wow, how HORRIBLE. I ordered filet mignon and the two ordered the duck. The filet was old, cold and over-cooked. They do NOT know how to cook a steak, and they ruined that steak...shame! I ordered Med-Rare, and I received two small pieces of steak which were WELL DONE and medium. The filet was obviously old and fished out of some freezer somewhere. I eat a lot at very good steak restaurants, and this was like getting caught hungry at 2am and needing to go to a Denny's. It was supposed to come with potatoes, but I only found a couple of potatoes that were obviously reheated and cooked some time ago. The sauces...no...not good, at all. Before the meals came, we ordered lobster bisque. This was an absolute joke. The lobster was chewy and overcooked, and the bisque was WATERY, unflavored and very thin. It was also LUKE WARM. I mean, what a disgrace. The duck was oily and too fatty, and was not cooked correctly. The duck was tough and chewy. I have had duck at $45/plate, and it was 10x better than this. They do not know how to prepare duck. All of the food was bland, old and watered down/thinned out. The desserts...LOL. So stupid (the pecan cake was good, the rest was like getting something from a cheap buffet)! For for more than $130/plate, we expected a great dinner, but this was entirely ridiculous. Do not waste your money, time or corrupt memories with your family by going to a fraud of a restaurant. Skip this restaurant as an idea...it will not work. The chef obviously has no standards.

Not only is the restaurant beautiful with high ceilings and different styles seating but the food was amazing and the service was great. Cande was our waiter and he was so sweet and attentive…. And he even gave us coffees for the road (something I was thinking but didn’t actually ask for) Definitely great for breakfast, and I could totally see this place being a great spot for dinner with friends as the bar is really beautiful with some great signature cocktails.

Quite a rainy evening, so Provisional Kitchen was pretty open when we arrived. Seated quickly and got water quickly. Service after the initial water was a bit slower, but acceptable. Food and drinks were very tasty. Shared a Chop Salad which was fabulous and a Pizza each. Both were good, but the Gluten Free crust was too crisp. i.e. not the best GF pizza we have had. Regular crust was good, but had too much "naked" crust. Cocktails were excellent, especial the "Dealer's chioce"; where the bar tenderwas able to shine in their selection of spirts and mixers. Overall decent value, well appointed place and good service.

My husband and I went with the brunch tasting menu. Chef curated menu that changes seasonally. 5 courses, starting off with a salad and ending with a sweet treat. Everything was rich in flavor and unique. Cande was our server and was very attentive and provided great service. We would definitely recommend this experience!

The buffet and entree’s were amazing, but pale in comparison to the friendly and attentive service provided by the staff. Jessi, thank you so much for taking such good care of my family. The experience just wouldn’t have been as good without you!

What an incredible experience. All I can say is WOW! We were staying at the Pendry hotel and stopped here for breakfast. Ask for Maira, she offered the most exceptional service. The breakfast pizza and bottomless mimosas were to die for. Amongst all the options in downtown, make an extra trip to the Provisional. For the price you pay, you will be surprised you didn’t venture here earlier.

Anytime we’re in town there is no debating we are eating at Provisional Kitchen. The food is of course delicious, but the service cannot be compared. Our favorite serve Maira makes us feel welcome and treats us like family. We love the restaurant and Maira! Thanks for making our visits so memorable.

We booked here because we wanted a special Christmas dinner. The only offering was a 4 course fixed price menu. We opted for the wine pairings too. There was nothing bad about the dinner, but at these prices we feel the food should be special and the wine pairings memorable. The food was, at best, mediocre, something I might prepare any day of the week. Service was perfunctory too.

My wife and I had a very good dinner here in early August on a Friday night when the city was heaving with people. The service was attentive and the food superb - especially the octopus starter, and the scallops entree. For downtown San Diego, it is reasonably priced and felt a very reliable upmarket option.

We heard good things from friends about the dinner menu at Provisional Kitchen and used that as the basis to drop in for a light brunch before a day on the water. Service was good and the food was tasty, but what I ordered from the menu as a shakahuka in no way resembled a shakshuka I had ever seen. To the eye, it most closely resembled soft scrambled eggs on toast. It was also pricey for the size portion. Nonetheless, it was tasty and served my purpose. My wife’s turkey club was excellent and both of us thought the sourdough bread in our respective dishes was to die for. I look forward to coming back to try the dinner menu sometime.

We shared a pizza, a pasta dish and some lovely carrots; and finished with a tiramisu. They were all delicious. This is a very solid restaurant with good service in a beautiful and quiet setting .

Delicious pizza! Excellent drinks and service! We were staying at The Pendry Hotel, this is one of five in-house restaurants and it’s first class. I’m not a fan of regular pizzas but this is not your regular pizza. Delicious fresh and a tasty crust. The rice pudding was the best I’ve had in ages.

We had dinner here on Christmas Day. It was a three-course choice menu and we also had to tell you immediately which dessert we wanted (that had to be for the kitchen). For the gentlemen in the company, the amount of food was just enough. The service was professional and we were rushed through at an emergency pace, with an hour and a half we were outside again. For almost 170 euros pp I feel bought here. Expectations were higher, especially because it was Christmas.

This place has good reviews but I was unimpressed. First of all, I agree that the ambience is great: beautiful place. But, the food was m'eh. I had the eggs benedict and it was disappointing. The smoked ham was a nice touch, but it was salty and for whatever reason they added salt to the dish. The eggs and the sauce were overcooked. The breakfast pizza was just OK as well (although my wife will get a lunch out of it). Service was slow. Not worth the money.

We tried the 5 course menu and realmente the food was awesome, i didn't think that the america cousine can have a proposal like that. You can avoid the beverage pairing, not really all the courses needs wine

We enjoyed a visit to Provisional for dinner on a Sunday night. The service was excellent the ambience very inviting and the food delicious. We started with the grilled octopus appetizer which we enjoyed greatly. I had the basil pesto rigatoni, and my wife had the chicken and both entrées were delectable. No complaints. The experience was great.

The food is outstanding and the server, Cande was spectacular! The ambiance is very classy. We ordered avocado toast, burgers and the Caesar salad. All were fantastic!

Everything we ask for very rich, the spicy but rich chilaquiles, the super soft bread basket, the exquisite fruit. Very woody dishes. Highly recommended!

We had the brunch tasting at the Provisional Kitchen in the Pendry. Maira was our server and she was amazing. She recommended the brunch tasting that was 5 courses. The prawns and dessert were our favorite but all the courses we had were amazing! 10/10 you won’t be disappointed.

I don’t know where to start. Paulina our server was sweet, professional, and attentive. We informed her that we were celebrating a special occasion, and she took it upon herself to surprise us not only with champagne, but a special ‘good luck’ dessert as well. So thoughtful and unexpected. The food was incredible- the honey ricotta, Brussels sprouts, butternut squash ravioli, bucatini, chocolate cake- all WOW. The Cab Sav was incredible too- just the right hint of sweetness. Thank you to the Provisional team and Paulina for taking such good care of us! You turned what could have been a simple dinner into an experience.

I ate alone one evening at this restaurant, and they made me very welcome and gave me a quiet little booth where I had enough light to read my book (not always the way solo diners are treated). This restaurant is within the Pendry Hotel in the Gaslamp quarter of San Diego. The interior is beautiful, lots of light and tall, slender pillars. Service was impeccable. Wines good by the class. The list of bottles included many that would be out of the financial reach of most people not on an expense account. I can strongly recommend the Manhattan Nero with which I began, a memorable variation on the standard. The Italian meatball appetizer was fine, with a rich red sauce. The mushroom pasta I chose to follow was a little heavy, coupled with an equally heavy cream sauce. The mushrooms were a little tasteless, but that might have been the varieties they included, which were clearly spelled out in the menu. I would definitely go back here and be a little more adventurous with the menu.

I came here with my husband for brunch! We loved the atmosphere of this restaurant! We sat outside and ordered the breakfast pizza, spicy brussel sprouts, and bombolini thanks to the help and recommendation of our great server, Cande! He answered all our questions and was so attentive! Empty dishes did not sit on our table for long and he timed all our dishes to come out perfectly! This was our first meal in San Diego and we’re happy it was! We would definitely come back again! We would love to try the brunch tasting menu :)

I’d love to express how amazing the breakfast is here. From the minute I set foot in the door I was greeted by Jessi who was super friendly and very informative. She was giving me great insight on the benefits that the Pendry offers to their guest. I appreciate how accommodating she was and knowledgeable on areas to visit while staying in San Diego. The menu has a lot of great options, the food is superb you can’t go wrong. Our server Sergio was a sweetheart, he was very attentive. The bottomless mimosa is an no brainer. Overall this place is a definite must to visit.

Every small detail is thought out and the service is impeccable. One of the best experiences I’ve had at a hotel ever. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable, the location can’t be beat, and the restaurants associated are some of the best. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic breakfast, really tasty, high quality and loads of choice, great venue. Slightly affected by the terrible service from the meet & greet hostesses - very surly and unhelpful. Such a shame for such a great hotel and an otherwise fab breakfast

Our family had dinner here recently. Menu options were kind of odd - you could get oven-fired pizzas as well as a fixed price dinner. I think they would be better off if they narrowed their focus. I had steak tartare for an appetizer. It was too big and didn’t resemble steak tartare. The oven fired pizza was very good, however. Service was good and fairly quick. Prices were too high for the quality although the pizzas were a pretty good deal. Not a bad restaurant but it could be better.

Sergio was AMAZING! The food was wonderful and drinks were fun and creative…Sergio went above and beyond. Would definitely recommend!

I am staying in Gaslamp District for work training. I tried a few restaurants on list peovided by hotel but was not too impressed so I found this place browsing. I have eaten here 4 times for lunch and ince gor dinner. The food is delicious!! Great staff and the location is nice

This restaurant in The Pendry Hotel serves up breakfast and brunch daily until 2.00pm then Wednesday to Sunday its open for dinner with a Mediterranean focus from 5 pm. Its a pleasant airy environment . We booked for dinner one evening and really enjoyed the food and casual ambience. We were lucky to have reserved a booth which is a great cosy choice if you are a couple. The service was excellent, friendly, relaxed and professional. We had burrata, pasta dishes and tiramisu which were really tasty. I had a special recipe cocktail the previous evening in the hotel bar which wasn't on the restaurant list but no problem our server happily arranged for one to be prepared. We enjoyed it so much that the following evening after looking at a couple of other nearby restaurants we decided to come back for the last dinner of our San Diego trip and we were glad we did. We had a different server equally as good and friendly as the one from the previous evening who also came to say hello which was a nice touch.

What a nice surprise! We were looking for a good brunch place that had a nice vibe, good food, and something that also had a great ambiance (not ugly and grungy like a lot of the Gaslamp restaurants can be) -- and this place had it all. The food was delicious, the service was attentive, and the interior was well done and beautiful. Can't wait to come back!

We had the tasting menu for brunch. Amazing experience. Chef Dara Steinrichter impressed to no end and the food, impeccable!!! Every course a winner! From the beer battered avocado, to the smoked salmon on a waffled croissant to the beignets with pastry cream and caramel sauce, to name a few. The bottomless mimosas with a choice of unique fruit purées did not hurt!! Thank you for a fun and wonderful experience!!

Was here on business for 5 days and ate at Provisions everyday. The food and service did not disappoint. The quality of the food and the high level of friendly service was constant.

Maira was an amazing server! She was so sweet she knew we were from out of town and gave us some excellent list of places to see. The food was really good! We tried a seasonal pastry, and different breakfast options over the course of 3 days. My favorite was the pesto potatoes and the omelet with French press coffee.

We had an awful experience here at Provisional. We were enjoying a long weekend at the Pendry and were otherwise having a great vacation. But we came by Provisional for drinks the first night and were treated like pure garbage by the bartender. It was a slightly busy night, but the bartender couldn't handle it and lashed out at us. Strange for an otherwise classy establishment. We complained to management, but it fell on deaf ears. We had plans to celebrate a birthday party here over the summer with some friends, but we no longer trust this property so we've changed plans and won't return. We won't be back, and you shouldn't bother wasting your money here.

I came with 4 people and each of our dishes was a 10/10. We got the churro French toast, create your own omelette, and the pendry breakfast. Oh and the orange juice was so fresh! nicely brewed coffee. Thank you Candee for making are breakfast experience great!

Only 2 pizzas on the brunch menu but marinara was good quality and perfectly cooked. Panini was delicious served piping hot with equally fresh chips. Our French speaking server saw my husband’s t shirt and spoke to us in French which made us so welcome.

Excellent service from the moment you walk in, especially Cande who was particularly attentive to us in our visit and even spoke to us in our native language after he heard us talking between ourselves. He offered great recommendations from the menu, and was very diligent with any and all of our needs. Will definitely recommend to my friends and family, and if posible to request the same service.

A lot of people will say that their brunch is extraordinary, but it typically is glorified breakfast and usually leaves me unimpressed. But the Brunch Tasting Menu at Provisional was creative, bold, filling, and inspired. We actually talked the couple seated next to us into trying it as well. There was waygu beef, chia pudding, chilequiles, caviar, and cinnamon beignets. Service was friendly and attentive. My wife immediately committed to returning here with our daughter at a later time. The chef came to our table to chat and she was delightful and personable. This ain’t a Denny’s Brunch. I absolutely recommend you give it a try.

The place looks super fancy and had a great large group fun, loud vibe. The service was ok our server forgot to bring some of the dishes out. Our group decided to order a bunch of items to share. Its attached to the Pendry hotel. Definitely order the caramelized onion, roasted corn, shisto pepper and leek ash pizza- it was amazing! something different and amazing. the pasta dishes were all good and the stuffed squash blossom was delicious. definitely a place to return.

Had a reservation for breakfast at Provisional after staying at the Pendry. I booked the stay with Amex FHR, so my fiancé and I had $60 worth of breakfast credit to use on property. We decided to try out provisional and were not disappointed! We had the highly recommended breakfast pizza and the churro French toast and both were fantastic! The cherry on top was the service. From the moment we entered, we were met with friendly faces and great energy! Shout out to Maira, our server, who made our visit so special! Highly recommend Provisional for breakfast or any meal or special occasion
