Solid, but not outstanding.

By VinceDavis |

Met friends for a late night dinner. It was very crowded and had to wait about an hour. Service and waiter was excellent. Food was very good, standard, but didn’t knock it out the park.

It was OK.

By iliketowrite |

We were there for a football watch party, so we were in a private room. Service was pretty slow. The snacks - chicken wings and fries - were very good. We ordered cheeseburgers for dinner and they arived cut into fourths; interesting presentation. The actual meat didn't have much taste, but the addition of lettuce, tomato and condiments gave them a decent flavor. So, it was OK. Not sure I would come back, except for another watch party.

Excellent Food and Service

By Erwin C |

Its been a year since ive last visited. I was just here last Sunday and the Service and food was excellent. The restaurant was clean and the people that work there was so helpful and attentive. Im definitely coming back!

Great food, fun environment

By Erica F |

The branding of this restaurant is great- the interior is fun and wonderfully decorated. Overall, the food was great. The appetizer menu is a must (If you're a fan of pretzels, get one) and there were lots of interesting choices for dinner-burgers, pizzas, steak, etc. However, the menu wasn't extensive if you are a vegan or vegetarian.

Great vibe, extensive menu!

Thank you for being open for dine-in service, Public School 213! We usually stick to a few restaurants that we love when visiting DTLA, but they were closed due to Covid-19. I am so glad that we had the opportunity to spend time to have drinks and eat here recently! DTLA is still pretty closed down, so it was a somewhat surreal time to be staying in town. However, one of the bright spots during our stay was being able to spend time with our family relaxing over drinks and great food at this restaurant. We all loved the options on the menu - upscale, but welcoming options for meat-eaters and vegans alike! We had an array of foods that were delicious, such as the buffalo cauliflower appetizer and bison burger. everything - the atmosphere, our service, and the atmosphere was great! We will return next time we are back in DTLA!

Long wait

By thisgirl_Gray |

Visited today 07/08/18 with a friend after enjoying a DTLA event. We've been to the PS310 location so we were happy to visit this location because that location, in comparison, was outstanding. We walked in and waited some time before a host finally came to seat us, that should have been a clue that the service here was extremely slow. After being seated we waited some time before out server Tylre said she would be over and then she finally came to take out drink and appetizer order. When that came out she asked if we wanted to order or needed more. I stated it probably was best we order now since everything else was taking so long, and we ordered. The food was good as I expected since I had been to another location; but the beet and goat cheese salad was amazing. After we finished, we waited again for our server to come and finalize our bill. Overall, food is good and consistent among the two locations I've been to, but the service here by comparison was terrible and it wasn't even crowded inside. I doubt I will visit this location again in the future.

Great food good vibes personable staff

Food was good. Service was good and atmosphere was fun. Definitely a younger crowd but good vibes and lots of activities there to do. Definitely to return

Lively

This is another lively, noisy, busy bar in Downtown LA. Hard to get served and to make yourself heard. Popular with younger, professional types. Good range of craft beers.

Good LA brunch spot

By Emily T |

We came here for a friend’s birthday brunch on a Saturday and had a great experience. The staff was nice (though it did take awhile to order drinks and food) and we all enjoyed our entrees and bottomless mimosas/bloody Mary’s. They had a variety of breakfast and lunch options and we all enjoyed our food from breakfast burritos to avocado toast to breakfast pizzas. The school theme was cool and very well done throughout with the industrial look and things like composition notebook menus, clever names, and encyclopedia decor. It is very spacious and we played giant Jenga and darts after on the other side of the bar. Very cool spot especially for groups!

Put this on you to do list

By Bricken S |

This is a really fun pub/brew house. Great beer choices and clean lines. Lots of flavorfull food. Loved the bacon tots. The pizza was excellent (but very filling). The mixed drinks were great too. A fun place to go with friends.

I went for the weekend brunch and liked it so much I brought the family back the next day. Sausage gravy and biscuits were a hit!

Unique Gastropub with Delicious Food and Great Service

By ladyjadegd |

I don't give out five stars for a restaurant very often, but PS 612 meets all of my criteria! First, it's a totally unique theme for a gastropub, with the whole school theme going on. Very cute and I love Recess instead of Happy Hour. AWESOME! The Menu is eclectic and fun and the food is delicious. We went on a Saturday evening, arriving about 5pm for some pre-concert noshing. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were both awesome. Friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, attentive... couldn't ask for more. We started with drinks. The husband decided to skip the 4 "handle" which is the beer they select to be the RECESS special that day and ordered off the very decent craft beer list. I honestly don't recall exactly what he drank.. one of them was maybe a Blue House from El Segundo? I, on the other hand, went with one of the specialty drinks, the Sun Never Set which is made from Earl Grey Infused Maker's Mark... can you say YUM? It was really good. We went crazy and ordered a bunch of small plates from the Recess menu: we had the Edamame Hummus (freaking delicious - the husband wanted to order more after he tasted it!), the Tres Adobo Tacos (very flavorful little taco bites - my mouth just watered a little bit when I thought of them), Thai Noodle Spring Rolls (LOVED! Definite mouth watering thinking about this Asian tasty treat full of noodles and veggies), Huevos Al Diablo (deviled eggs. They were deviled eggs. I like deviled eggs.), All American Sidekicks (little sliders. Also good, but just sliders, you know?), and the Crispy Naked Wings ( these were wings made without the sauce, then with three sauces on the side... although we only had two, the buffalo and the mustard and they were both really tasty. I'm not a wing fan and I loved them, my husband is obsessed with buffalo style wings and he fiended on the mustard, so go figure). We also asked what they could bring on for dessert and they had a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich that was home made. It was okay, but it also had bacon in it, which I wasn't expecting and I'm really picky about bacon. I don't like it in things because it gets soggy, so I wasn't a huge fan of the dessert for that reason, although we made a dent in it anyway! For all those goodies, my drink and two beers for the husband, my meal was $55ish plus tip. I thought it was a pretty nice deal. The place is clean, neat, and a fun atmosphere. We had a really great time and really great meal. I totally recommend you go here and I will be back if I'm in the area again. FIVE STARS: UNIQUE VENUE AND MENU, A VALUE, EXCELLENT SERVICE, CLEAN, & DELICIOUS FOOD

Great Place - Delicious Food

Very friendly and responsive host and servers. Did Tapas style with Tuna, Mac & Cheese and Squash soup. All of them were EXCELLENT.

Great Sunday Happy Hour

By SlyGuy21 |

We wondered upon this happy hour while exploring downtown LA. Amazing to find a happy hour on a Sunday (and all day on Sunday). We enjoyed $2 flatbread pizzas and craft beer. Casual spot, decorated in a clever school theme with a friendly staff.

Class is in session

By mderman |

I’m really glad I ventured out of my hotel tonight to try PS213. What a great place! The school themed restaurant and bar is top notch. Great service, great food, great vibe. It can be difficult to find something unique without taking a risk - there is no risk of a bad experience coming here. While I opted for craft cocktails instead of craft beer, they’ve got plenty of top shelf choices either way. My sandwich “What Came First” was flavorful and not something I’d ever had before. The fries in a “brown bag” were a nice touch. Check this place out if you get a chance!

Amazing time

Awesome Food, beautiful & lovely place. I am a article writer & I wrote 1 article in an hour over here. Such a peaceful place

Enter at Your Own Risk

By KPB |

Do not come here. Service sucks with inattentive staff who don’t care. Came in and waited for 45 minutes after we ordered for our drinks. Food came after 90 minutes and was cold. To the restaurant credit they did comp the inedible food. I feel like i spent a couple hours of my life here that i will never get back!

Good Beer!

By Jeffrey L |

Went there twice during a recent business visit. I only stopped in for beer. They have a GREAT selection and excellent service! It felt like a like a local place, not a trendy, downtown LA vibe. I liked what I saw on the menu but didn't was dining elsewhere. The beer selection was outstanding as was the service! I went in once with only a few minutes to spare and they got me in, served and out very quickly! I would have loved to spend a few hours there watching a game, etc. Next time!

Nice spot for a drink

By LKN |

We stopped in for drinks. Good service. Sat at the bar. Great spot for casual conversation and a cold beer. Recommended.

Wild Burgers

By Ruth C |

Lively atmosphere, speedy service lots of choice of interesting things, English Huntsman cheese as a option on a burger, with balsamic onions. Great!

Great comfort food

By BT00001 |

It was cold out and needed a place with nice environment and great food. This was just perfect. Service was outstanding and the food was exactly what I was looking for. I had wings (Yum) and meatballs with an IPA. Everything was just perfect.

Great place, great food!

By bradwag79 |

Came to this place after seeing it walking by the night before. My steak was perfect and calamari was top 5 I've ever had. Not a drinker but my friend said the beer was amazing. If I'm ever in LA again I'll be back!

Not a great experience

By rachelbyrge |

We arrived at this bar on recommendation from the staff at the hotel. We were seated by a young man who told us he didn't know if he would be our waiter and then he disappeared for 15 minutes. The waitress finally came to us and told us she had just been told that she was given our table. She apologized and she was very sweet. We ordered water and no alcohol due to business. The water was room temperature and we were not offered any ice. There wasn't anything on the menu that we wanted to eat and the choices we made were strange at best. The waitress brought us a cookie with ice cream in it for our wait. We were unable to cut it without almost breaking the knife. The experience was actually quite comical. However, I would not go back.

A Pleasant Surprise

By TristynTravels |

We were in downtown L.A. for the Anime Expo convention on 4th of July weekend this year. The convention got over early on the 4th and we left the hotel in the evening to seek out food since none of the hotel's restaurants were open. After wandering a few blocks we found this bar open. Upon entering, the space was warm and open with lots of interesting decorations that stuck well to the school theme. We were seated right away when arriving and our waitress was attentive and polite throughout the evening. She provided us with our own jar of water for the table, which was nice, but the water was lukewarm tap water and unpleasant to drink. The meal was delicious even though the wait was longer than expected. My wife ordered bangers and mash and really enjoyed her food, even though it was served luke warm (similar to school food?). My chicken and cornbread waffles were very good, even though the gravy was a little unusual tasting and the waffles a bit too dry. We found the selection of food on the menu to be unique and interesting and had fun choosing something different from the usual street fare we had been eating all week. The portions were extremely generous and we were both full and satisfied at the end of the meal. The main issue with the menu was that most options seemed to be pricey for bar food. Overall, this was not a bad meal considering it was the only place we could find open on the 4th of July. We probably would not go back, but it would not be a bad option if you are staying in downtown L.A.

Excellent visit!

By MarshallandLisa D |

Our waiter, Dustin was great. Very personable and knowledgeable. Craft beer and ciders were excellent. Food was delicious. Loved the public school vibe and decor.

Great for drinks and appetizers

By Puja U |

We went here on our last visit to LA. I enjoyed the selection of appetizers and drinks. Not so much of a dinner place though. Chicken meatballs were particularly good with some kind of special marinara type tomato sauce. Love how its "Recess" and not simply happy hour.

Very nice

By BobPhibbs |

Very good pub food. Service super-friendly and iced tea brewed fresh. Try the chicken sandwich or the bison burger.

Good Food, Okay Salad Entrees, Lots of Brews

By Michael M |

Some menus items are great (The PS Burger), some aren’t so much (Caesar Salad). Plenty of beers to choose from, ask to taste those that your considering. Service was a bit slow on our visit.

Great time

Solid gastropub in Downtown LA

By WallyDuke503 |

Visited the bar at PS213 for dinner while in DTLA on a business trip. Good beer selection and a solid menu of elevated pub classics. Clientele seemed to be a good mix of couples, groups of business colleagues and friends, and sketchy solo's like myself.

Great Vibe!

By Luis C |

We came here for dinner the last day of the show with a party of 5. We started off with some beers that were recommended and I can say we all enjoyed them. We had several types so it kept us entertained. We ordered a bunch of starters that were quite good. The Mac and cheese and the cauliflower being our favorite.

Good food, nice place

By Icetheman |

We decide to eat at this place as it had a weird setting to it with the public school take on food. The menu was weird as it modeled an old school workbook. The food was good however kinda pricey so plan to spend a few bucks for the meal. This would have been a 3 rating for me however the server Leland was really good at his job. The drink glasses are small however he never let mine run empty which is a big plus for me. We had the calamari to start and it was really good with great taste and amazing dipping sauce. I would also recommend the mac & cheese with chorizo it is really good. I had the Prime Steak with truffle butter as it was good, not sure it is worth the value however overall I was very happy with my visit.

I wish I could give a better rating

By eljuezcubano |

The room is great looking and comfortable. The food, for the most part, is very good and inventive. The cauliflower appetizer is a must! I have had a few offerings that missed the mark, but which are no longer on the menu. The beer selection is also extensive. The problem here is the service. It is spotty at best. Sometimes, you luck out and get someone pleasant and attentive. Other times, it's like the wait staff is doing you a favor! I don't get it. There are many offerings downtown now. PS needs to get its house in order.

great

By Piotr H. |

very nice pub with good beer. Service is also very nice, helpful and kind. You can also eat great meals.

Very good food and good beer

By Duke C |

The missus & I had an early New Year's Eve dinner here. We enjoyed the buffalo cauliflower appetizer and found it to be excellent. For dinner my wife really enjoyed the beet salad with shredded chicken added to it. I had the barbecued chicken salad and thought it was excellent, too. I had two of their draft beers (can't remember which variety) that were very tasty. Service was good and the price was reasonable.

Fun branding and good food!

By Tom W |

The public school theme is branded throughout the entire place - very fun. The food and service were great!

Great staff, tremendous apps, and oh so tasty brews

By Samuel O |

I stopped in 612 for a couple pints and some snacks and was not dissappointed. I had their speck and eggs, which were spot on. And, try their cheese/meat board. It has all the normal things, plus honeycomb and some other interesting things.

Entertaining, fun and good food?

By GabrielV. |

Its a fun place to visit as they have table games like Connect Four, Mini Jenga, Guess Who? And can’t remember what else. Our waiter LEO was one of the nicest people I have ever seen. Being profesional doesn’t mean to stop being yourself and this man brought it up. Each time with a smile, polite and always kept an eye on the table. Food was good and drinks were strong, just how I like them.

Popular place for Thursday night

By Andy B |

I attended an event at this restaurant on a Thursday night, and it was very nice. We had our own area, so it was kind of hard to know how it would be on a normal non-event night. The food that was served was good, basic finger food type of stuff. It did get kind of loud so it was hard to hear people and it has kind of an 'L' shape to the building, which kind of made it hard to see everyone at the same time, but that no one seemed to mind and all had a very nice time.

Neighborhood Favorite

By razfan2001 |

As a DTLA local I have narrowed this down to one of my favorite gastro pubs. They have happy hour seven days a week, great bar bites, an awesome selection of draft beers, and hand crafted cocktails. To top it off they also have serve dinner and have champagne brunch on the weekends. Two of my favorite dishes are the shrimp & grits and the chicken & waffles...both are delicious.

Ok but service could be a lot better

By JoRoOmaha |

I attended a party here and it was incredibly hard to get a wait person to take your drink order. They seemed to run by continually taking one or two drink orders at a time rather than what a typical wait person would do. Our group was fairly large and the bar was incredibly noisy.

Great atmosphere, great staff

By Deb G |

Most of our group really enjoyed the food. Shrimp/grits were fabulous. Handmade pizza was also very popular. One in our group was disappointed that most of the food was very spicy and there was no plain pizza.

Unexpected to find late evening in the financial district

By Qeeee |

Fab range of beers. Good choice of wines. Exceptional food offered great value. Helpful staff. Background music and sport channels on TV screens. Top choice.

Dropped in for a few beers on a Saturday night

By SailSunJay |

Dropped in for a few beers on a Saturday night. The place had nice energy. Staff was welcoming. We only had beers, selection was limited, but what they had was good.

Decent Food and Beer in a downtown location

By Matthew J |

Cam in here midweek with work companions on a workday. It was full and active and noisy. We had beers first and had fun playing darts and a giant version of Jenga. Had several beers, of which there is a large variety that is brewed onsite. Food was quite tasty and well prepared. We would come here again.

Not going back to school!

By markj4golf |

So, went here with my family (7 of us), for an early dinner.... Asked to be put in a quiet section and were taken to a back table away from the bar (which was good). Even this far away from the hopping bar, you could only talk to the person right next to you as it was uber loud (there was a glassed off room with tables, so not sure why we did not get seated there (yes, we did have a reservation with out request). Server was the highlight of our dinner.. he was very good, attentive without being overbearing, and super nice. Food here is nothing better than average.. most dinner items (pizza, steak salad, fish taco's, and fish and chips) were all under seasoned and just not anything to talk about..... I guess when a condimant is the best this on your plate, you in a bit of trouble as it was on my plate of fish and chips..... fish was OK.... but part of the meal is call "CHIPS"... which were what appears to be a bad afterthought and these rubbery, shoestring, cold, and just bad fries, really just took this meal from good, to no good... as for that condiment, the sriracha ketchup was by far the best thing on this plate (you can keep the mussy peas.... yucky).... just a shame to not give good fries with that ketchup (it was also the same fries on the plate with a burger... so just awful that they would serve them this way. I think that they flunked the food test at Public School!

Only average

By MerelyATourist |

I had lunch here with a colleague on a recent business trip. We chose it simply because we happened to walk by it around lunch time. I chose the crispy chicken sandwich with fries and washed it down with Anthem Pear Cider (I felt like something other than beer). The cider was very good; not too sweet nor too dry. The sandwich, on the other hand, was mediocre. I expected something tastier and frankly a little larger.

Fun and Delicious

By Nolan W |

Quite a few beer and cocktail options. They also have a few local options, too. Beer is served very cold and in a variety of glasses. The menu is not too varied but both items I selected were delicious. Started with the brussel sprout appetizer and finished with a bison burger. Both were rich and delicious. Good location, too, albeit a bit noisy in the late afternoon/evening.

Fun Concept Restaurant!

By HelloandBonjour |

If you're looking for a good lunch, casual dining, this is your spot. The restaurant is located across from the Standard Hotel and is the perfect place to grab a yummy burger. The menus are made to look like an old school black and white Composition book and the napkins are lined like school paper. SUPER CUTE! I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich (DELISH) and the hubby had a PB&J Hamburger...(???!!!) He said it was good, just a bit too much PB. Good food, fun concept, nothing fancy, but we would probably go again if we were in the area. Cheers!

Fun and delicious!

By Anna T |

As a teacher visiting LA, this was a must. We stopped in on a weeknight and I was impressed with the crowd, but we still got a table quickly and the waiter was very friendly. We had a round of drinks and the buffalo cauliflower, which was DELICIOUS. I hate cooking but I am going to research that dish and do my best to recreate it because it was so good. It was nice to have a vegetarian appetizer choice other than mozzarella sticks. The vibe was cool, the menus were cute (styled like composition notebooks!), overall a very fun place to visit and I'd love to go back.

Comfy place with amazing menu

By Ann R |

Not your usual brew house menu. Had deviled eggs with prosciutto and pizza with wild mushrooms and arugula. Delicious!!

Great food, but...

By John T |

When I passed by here and the glowing circular red and yellow neon was telling me "Good Food, Craft Beer" I knew I had to come back and give it a shot. At first I thought it was a hole-in-the-wall (I had passed the neon sign in a hurry). When I came back, I could see it was like a half block long... and had this quirky name PS 213. Menu was interesting, but not too wide-ranging. For the size of the space I was kinda hoping for prices that were not quite so boutique, because a burger and beer at $21.00 is still high in my book. Still, the burger was great - although I ordered the slaw rather the fries on the side. Fries are what came to the table - oops, I dropped the tip at that point (it was quiet, not busy and someone along the way goofed, they should know about it). The craft beer selection was great and what I got was yummy. As the later afternoon went on, people continued to flow in - I think this place is popular. Anyway, pretty good, a little high on price, and they need to get more careful on orders.

Excellent Restaurant with fun play on being at school!

By Josh O |

After a full days work, we were looking for a mid-ranged priced place to eat. The Public School 213 was suggested, and we were very glad it was. Restaurant theme is spot on with all decor and menus reflecting a school classroom. We sat at the full service bar, and have food and drinks. Bartenders were efficient and mixed our drinks to perfection. Coworker had one of the pizza options, and I had the shrimp and grits. As a southern born boy, I've had some great shrimp and grits. Although a different take on traditional shrimp and grits, it was an amazing entree. They formed the grits into a patty that was placed on top the sauce and shrimp was sprinkled on. Great Dinner, Drinks, and Service. Highly recommend if your looking for fun atmosphere and great quality.

Great visit!

By fieldsn19 |

In town for a professional conference and this was the perfect place for a group of educators to gather and let our hair down. It was a rather large group of us that came and went, but the servers and manager treated us well, and got the food and drinks out in a timely manner. Everything tasted great. I recommended it to others at the conference, and I would return if in town again.

Fantastic food in a fun setting

By LHS329 |

Where to begin. The crispy buffalo cauliflower is a must. It's fried with a spicy batter and is so good. The mac and cheese with chorizo has just the right amount of heat. The meatballs al forno...be still my heart. It was a big, juicy meatball loaded with heat. This is a real treat in downtown LA. Good service, fun atmosphere, unique food.

Class - Pay Attention

By Scott R |

PS 213 is teaching downtown LA what a good bar is. Situated at the corner of Flower and 6th the owners know what they’re doing in terms of making a really good bar. The bar, kitchen, and wait staff are all well trained and create a great place to hang out. Darts, ample room at the bar, decent pub menu, and an atmosphere that rivals some really strong competition within the surrounding three block area. Young crowd and pricing that will keep them coming back is part of the winning formula for this place.

Great meal

By Fappug55 |

Ordered in and had it delivered. The meatball appetizer was very tasty as was the beet and goat cheese salad. Chicken sandwich with fried egg was outstanding. Certainly recommend.

Glad someone told me about this place

By kgilbert |

The food and service was great. It was a little loud if you want to have a relaxing conversation. I'll go again

Great Vibe, Drinks and Food

By LuvtoSafari |

Came after work for a casual dinner and drinks with co-workers. With large group, was able to book the back room with the dart boards. Casual setting, place was jumping for a Wed night. Good drinks and small bites were perfect. The tacos and sliders were excellent. The Asian rolls were just ok. We spent 2-3 hrs noshing, enjoying a few drinks and playing darts. Fun venue.

Very welcoming and enjoyable drinks stop

By Martin P |

We visited for a few drinks and were made very welcome. The restaurant has a good atmosphere and drinks are reasonably priced.

lunch for 5

By GSWRD510 |

solid overall gastropub for casual business lunches. their tap selection for beers was decent, their burgers are good... although a bit messy for a business lunch. seating is easy to come by during lunch towards the beginning of the hour. most of the time a reservation is not needed. not a family friendly place.

Buzzing atmosphere, great food

By jennifer s |

We came during happy hour and it was indeed quite full. The place on a weekday empties out relatively quickly after happy hour though, so I'd suggest coming in right before then to make sure you get a seat. We had the mac and cheese with chorizo which was just the right amount of creamy and cheesy, very good with the salted vinegar crisps on top, the burger bites which is essentially a burger cut into 4 was tasty and their fried calamari which was a generous serving flash fried so it was never overcooked. Great bar food.

Super

By Maude Poulin |

We had a fun dinner, playing games, watching Dodgers game on TV... and the food was incredible ! The price are great.

C-minus for effort

By Michael R |

PS 213 is an amusing and ironic concept that induces flashbacks to middle school but with better food. Service initially was pretty bad. Being there solo I was persistently ignored for larger, more boisterous groups that would undoubtedly tip more. I nearly walked out and the wait staff did try a little harder after a while. I had the ahi tuna poke bowl, which when it comes down to it was just a big salad with some tuna pieces in it (boring). And the roasted brussels sprouts on the side which were pretty tasty. Dinner, a glass of their cheapest wine, tax, and tip came to $36 which is excessive by at least $10. So between the service, uninspired food, and excessive price, PS213 barely gets a C.

Too loud for me

By EBinLACA |

Five of us stopped here for a drink after a day of meetings. The wine list was fine for me, and others really loved their beer choices. We had a few snacks - fries and hummus - with our drinks and those were good too. But we couldn't hear each other, so we didn't stay for a second round.

Nice atmosphere,but very loud

By mw368 |

Ate here during a recent trip to LA. Very nice atmosphere and vibe. Food selection is a bit limited, but adequate. Nice beer selection as well. Main issue is the volume. It's very loud inside and difficult to hear a basic conversation. If you don't like loud places, I would avoid. If that doesn't bother you, then it worth a stop.

Good Pub Food & Beer

By KVM101 |

Good stop for moderately priced food & drink. It's definitely a young crowd that frequents Public School in a friendly pub atmosphere. The staff was all friendly and accommodating. The food, i.e., apps were delicious, plentiful, and definitely on anyone's diet. Good Fries! Servings were plentiful. Conveniently located on the corner of S. Flower & 5th, it's easy in and out if you are staying at the Bonaventure, or other hotels in the immediate area.

Cool Venue

By Steven C |

The food is good without being great, the service is really good and overall it is quite a cool place with nice ambience, screens to watch sports and an area to play darts and stand around having a drink. Worth a visit

Very good pub with surprisingly elegant food

By FredTravelVa |

At first glance of the view, one is struck that this is a pub, with some nice food on the side. But we had a terrific beer-free meal. Excellent hamburgers. Many gluten free options. Liked the "public school" vibe in the design. Great evening.

Broad menu

By ChicagoAddick |

Broad menu with some interesting items on it beyond normal burgers. Service was slow however, but the group I was with enjoyed the food. Lots of draft beer choices as well.

Business lunch

By Jessica P |

Kale salad with salmon was solid. Needed something fresh, green and satisfying. Walked in @1 on a Friday, no wait. Simple modern decor not too distracting for serious business and enough space between tables for confidentiality.

Why Not?

By curioustravelor2010 |

Solid. I talked to several other patrons and all agreed you can’t go wrong here. About 20 local tap beers. Good food. Friendly staff. Clean. Nice clientele. I will return the next time I’m in DTLA.

Large Group Dinner

By Georgina S |

I came here for a group dinner and around 8 of us got there early so we made the most of the happy hour cocktails and free board games by the bar area before heading into our private dining area. The service was great especially considering there were 50 of us, food tasted lovely and drinks were great too. Bathrooms were very clean and overall the bar had a nice atmosphere. I would go here again.

An unfortunate experience

By HarlemMade |

I went to this restaurant with 9 business colleagues at 10pm. Unfortunately the hostess and wait staff were not prepared to or unwilling to properly accommodate us. After finally figuring out that we could put some tables together, our server took all of our orders. Drinks: I ordered a glass of water, with a glass of ice. I received the water, but not the ice. A colleague sitting next to me went to the bar to get my ice. He came back with a glass of ice, but some of the pieces seemed to have dirt, or some similar looking substance on them. I went to the bar to get some myself, only to find the same substance in the ice. Food: A colleague and I both ordered to shrimp and grits, only to be told after we ordered, they'd run out. We then proceeded to put in the same alternative order, only to be told minutes later, that meal too was not available. I finally decided on the deviled eggs and wings, from the late night menu (which was never presented to us, although seemed obvious to the server after I asked if they had a late night menu). Both items were very good! At some point during our meal, we were told by a different server that he'd be helping us. When we inquired as to the reason, he told us that the previous server had some emotional problems, and had quit on the spot. The food I was finally able to eat was very good. The service was horrible for the large crowd. They serve customers dirty ice. It was an unfortunate experience.

Cozy, ambient, chill place

Visiting LA for the first time. Had only seen this place on a walkby. Looked good when closed, even better when open. Had the Meatballs & Linguine, and must say it is one of the best pasta dishes I've had, and I've eaten at many italian places. Top stuff! Beer and drinks menu is good and varied, with a rotating menu to boot! Atmosphere is cozy and nice, and you can have a chill time, either only working the beer lists, or combine with a fresh wellmade meal! Good and responsive staff is a big plus too! Highly recommend this place!

Great Atmosphere - Good Food!

Definitely a good restaurant for Foodies! We enjoyed the menu and the drinks. We took a group of 8 and the service was excellent. I would definitely go back and recommend!

A happy Happy Hour!

Great selection of craft beers, small plates at a good price, and a lively crowd make for a great HH at Public School 612. $4 and $5 beers. Nice choice of a small plates. The corn and Mac and cheese were terrific. Bartenders were very friendly. Only downside is it can get very loud.

Downtown finally a destination

We live in rural Ventura County 1 1/2 hr away and not use to urban New York Style high rise bldgs. My daughter in laws brother invited us to dinner as he was out from Texas. He used to own a condo in the new improved downtown LA. We got there about 6:30 pm . Saw people walking dogs at Central Library and area wasn't sketchy like I remember it . We were dropped off and daughter valet parked. We were blown away , nice dressed people lawyer s people who live in condos , people from China Town . Lively House and techno music and high ceilings . Didn't know about this chain Public School 213, 818, 805 referring to area code. I didn't drive so had a Figueroa Mountain IPA Beer. We shared humus and tater tot s and Mac cheese . My main dish was Shorty Bowl with arugula mashed potatoes and short ribs and soft boiled egg . Wife had Margaret Pizza. Brother in law had Quimwa and Chicken . Fun people watching . Want to try one near me in 805 . If downtown , check out . Cool wait staff.

Superb Lunch Spot - WOW

By jwredlabel |

After walking around downtown for a couple of hours we stopped in for a light lunch and to meet up with our niece. What a neat-looking spot with clever schoolish sayings throughout. The bar was very attractive with lots of different types of drinks and a great beer selection. The menu was amazing. Niece got the fish tacos which she loved, wife and I split a BBQ Bison burger. My wife said it was probably the best burger she had ever tasted. I agreed. My side was the peanut cole slaw, which was a creamy slaw with a Thai peanut sauce. OMG. Prices were very reasonable for DTLA. If ever downtown again, this is a must stop gathering spot.

A perfect setting for a bunch of educators

We laughed at the name but floored by the hospitality, great food, and friendly staff of this bar restaurant. I was with a group of 65 school counselors of color and they accommodated us beautifully. The food was great. A lot of people enjoyed the wings and tator tots with bacon and cheese; I had the lamb burger which was cooked beautifully and the truffle fries that made you want to put your fingers in the bag and swipe. I wish I would have taken pictures. Definitely worth the visit!

Great sliders and beer

Stopped in for a cold beer after a hot day on labor day. Greeted by lovely staff who told us about happy hour special with food and beer. Had the sliders and pizza. Great service and a unique fun layout. Would come back again. A good find!

Fun Concept, Decent Food

The theme is well developed and the food is good. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. The fish in chips was just ok. A little “bready.” The peanut slaw is a pass, too. The lamb burger was great, and so were the deviled eggs and the beet salad with goat cheese. This is a fun option in downtown LA.

Definitely better than my school lunch.

This was my first time to the West Coast and I truly enjoyed Los Angeles! A group of us planned a meet and greet here for dinner. I loved the atmosphere and the staff was very accommodating for our LARGE party. They had a variety of food to choose from and everything was delicious. Our wait staff was very friendly and took care of our every need with promptness and ease. I would highly recommend this place and would definitely visit again!

Fun place, good food.

Good food and upscale school lunches. Service was good, we had a late dinner and it gets a little noisy so a little hard to hear conversation.

Reservations for 55

By Susan M |

55 people in our party and the service was impeccable! Only 4 stars because the parking is atrocious. $10 to park.... if there’s valet available it’s definitely not posted outside clearly. The food was good, Salmon with a house salad, very nicely done, and again, the service was fabulous!

Good beer, average food

By Seth S |

This place could be much better than it is. The atmosphere is good, the beer selection very good and the menu looks great on paper, but none of the food hit the mark. They have someone creative putting together the menu, but it seems that person is not actively engaged in cooking, because all of the dishes we tried left us wanting something better. On top of that, our waiter was indifferent and it took a long time for the beer to come each round.

Great craft beers on tap.

While I was staying in DTLA, a frind of mine met up with me here for a couple beers. I was surprised to see this kind of place in the area where I used to live (about a decade ago). Decent range of craft beers. Cool style to the place. It was supposed to look like an elementary school. The menus were notebooks and they had paper and pencils at the tables. I did not try any food, but was happy with the beer selection. If you're in the area and want some craft beers, stop by for a few!

Vibrant atmosphere, excellent service, good food

By Eve212015 |

Stopped in for lunch. Atmosphere is vibrant but not overwhelming. The decor gives a good ambience. The service was excellent. Our waiter was so inviting and fast. I ordered the chicken with quinoa bowl. It comes with pico de gallo, beans, cabbage, grilled corn. It was just the right amount for lunch. I highly recommend the public school.

Public School

Love everything about this place from the outside dining areas with different styles gathering areas with nice firepits. Inside is very masculine and clean. The food is FANTASTIC! Fish tacos are verrrrry good. Everything I have tried is fresh and delicious and anyone I take there LOVES it. Very nice offerings and the bar service is polished and professional. Great service with engaging wait staff. Parking is odd...at a garage next door with one way in amd it is easy to miss...but, parking is cheap $5 Other than that, you have to park across the street at the Galleria. You will enjoiy all they have to offer.

Quick Dinner

My first night in LA so I wanted a quick and light meal. Public School was fine. The Caesar salad was good as was the burger. The service was also good.

Great Vibe, Great Food

Went here on a Tuesday nice and the place was quite busy. I sat at the bar and had a great experience. The drinks were strong, there was a good beer choice and the food was delicious. This is a great place for an individual or a group of people.

Slightly better than expected.

The crispy chicken was delicious. The beers fine. The meatball snacks pleasant. It was location and a time crunch but we were happy we stopped in. The dessert...killer

Great craft beer selection!

By jmuckley |

This is one of the best spots in downtown to find a great selection of craft beers (local, national, and imported). Food is also delicious... better than pub food!
