Excellent Food!

By Bcohen13 |

I ordered GrubHub, so I can't speak to the restaurant, but everything was delicious. Would absolutely order from them (or visit) again! Particularly liked the Lamb Shaag and Chicken Shingara. Only complaint is that the desserts seemed small for the price, but that certainly didn't diminish our enjoyment of the dinner.

We got the Vegetable Shingara, Mixed Tondoori Platter, Chicken Curry and Goat Curry. We are pretty satisfied with what we ordered - so we will definitely recommend this restaurant. Bottled water is complimentary.

Simply Outstanding

We visited for dinner with 4 adults and 3 children (ages 14, 11, and 9)... the children are adventurous eaters, which comes in handy for a terrific place like this. The service is impeccable, warm and friendly. The dining room is small but can accommodate several 4-person parties and a few larger ones. We ate... everything! And it was all fabulous. Started with halim and naan, and mulligatawny. We also tried a few tandoori dishes, vegetable biriyani, butter chicken, lamb vindaloo (perfectly spicy!), and perhaps one more that I'm forgetting. Everything was fresh, well-prepared and just delicious. The butter chicken and vindaloo were particular standouts. Note that this restaurant does not serve alcohol, though they do provide complimentary bottled water. Not sure if they allow wine etc. to be brought in with you... frankly it doesn't matter. Go for the food! We ate like kings and paid < $70 for a family of four. You could certainly order less, pay less, and still eat very well. Either way, worth every cent. These folks deserve more business!

Really Good Indian Food

By Golf4food |

Ordered from this restaurant through Grubhub. Glad I did! The food was good and had a great flavor. The spice Level was a little low (I like spicy) but other than that, would definitely recommend!

Flavorful and fresh!

By REES C |

We ordered through GrubHub, and had a quite fine experience dining in our hotel room. The food arrived 20 minutes earlier than the estimated time, and was hot, delicious, and plentiful. My wife and I had Chicken and Lamb Shaag, Vegetable Shingara, and Beef Halim, all fresh and flavorful. A warning to Atlanta culinary abecedarians: "medium hot" is not your typical Georgia tame, but is really very spicy!

Great Bangladeshi Food.

By 820frankmm |

Dined at Purnima this week with the wife. Server very good. Food excellent. Had two different appetizers and some sort of curry chicken and a beef dish. Also two different naan breads. Everything served piping hot right out of the hopper. Rice pudding for dessert on the house. This place is not fancy but the food and service sure are good. No alcoholic beverages served here. So bring your own beer or wine if you want that with your meal.

Real Indian and Bangladeshi taste

We ordered veg and fishes, curries mostly, with shag and other sides. Original taste of the sub-continent. Bangladesh and Indian cuisine mostly. Service was excellent.

Excellent Food!

I’ve long been a fan of Bangladeshi food and have a favorite spot I go to on Buford HWY, but the other night I strayed from my usual joint to try Purnima……… It was good REALLY good! We came in around 7pm on a Sunday night and there was only one other couple dining in. The space is small but welcoming. Our waiter and host was kind and helpful. We started out with an appetizer order of Vegetable Shingara. The pastry dish was flavorful and came with a green and red sauce for dipping that were both good. For our main dishes I ordered the Lamb Shaag Ponir and my girlfriend ordered the Tikka Moshol-la. We were both asked if we wanted our dishes mild, spicy or hot which was great that they give you that option. The chicken dish was tender and the sauce was plenty flavorful. Exactly what you expect it to be. The flavors were vibrant in the sauce. The same could be said for my lamb. The spinach dish was very good and the lamb was very tender. I’m not a huge fan of the cheese in it so next time I may just go with the Lamb Shaag minus the Ponir but that is just personal taste. Rice comes with the dishes to share and we also ordered Nan and Raita. The nan was soft and fluffy and some of the best I’ve had. We enjoyed an excellent meal and now we have a decision to make the next time we want to enjoy Bangladeshi food because this place is really good! I did notice although they were slow they were running a TON of dishes out of the kitchen for delivery. Evidently they deliver about 11 miles or so according to our waiter. I thought this was very cool.

Terrible expereince - Food is like fungus

By Hitesh K |

We ordered Niramish, Dal and Naan. and he has copied menu from other Indian restuarant and when we asked owner he lied to us. The Niramish is cuisine consisting vegetable but it was sticky and smelly. Ewwwwww, Daal was like terrible it was better for me to drink only water here. I am attaching some of the images.

Very pleasant visit

By Tom B |

Went here for lunch with my wife. Small place, very nice and attentive manager who was very intent for us to have a good experience. Had beef Halima for appetizer. It was good and spicy. Went well with the excellent naan - the fluffiest and best we've had. Had a lamb curry and chicken curry. Both good. The owner gave us some excellent rice pudding for dessert since it was our first visit. Overall a very pleasant lunch.

Great First Impressions

By crazchick23 |

I visited Purnima for dinner and was impressed with the service. We arrived around 4:45 pm and was greeted with friendly staff and fresh bottles of water on the table. The waiter that we had was knowledgable of the menu and when I asked for a few explanations of the dishes he knew exactly where they were on the menu. Very helpful. We ordered the Combination Tandoori Plate that came with variety of meats to try all. The lamb and chicken were very flavorful and soft. The Naan Bread and Samosas were delightful also. Great service and we even got our bottles of water replenished without having to ask. Would definitely recommend the quaint restaurant.

Tasty food

Liked the food & the service was good & hospitable staff. Do try the halim. Kiddo loved the muligatawny soup & spouse loved chk pulav. All in all good food. Just that the ambience of the place doesn’t warrant the price.

Great!

By TallTrainer |

I sought out this restaurant solely for the lamb biryani and Purnima delivered. I asked for medium spice and it was perfect. Even the plain naan bread had a great flavor. Service was superb, though it was after 8 on a Monday night. There was a lot of takeout business, so they must be doing something right. I will be back.

EXCELLENT!

By ronnie2614 |

This restaurant has the best Bangladeshi food in Atlanta. We loved everything we ordered. we told them to make our food spicy and they did. The food was freshly cooked and served. The manager and the staff were very nice and cordial. If you love Bangladeshi cuisine and fresh food this is the place in Atlanta. I highly recommend this restaurant!!

Amazing food and service!

By Ruth D |

We had a great experience at Purnima! The food was absolutely incredible and the servers and manager were so attentive and helpful! The menu was also full of vegetarian options! We definitely plan on returning!!

Not as good as the reviews say

By Ivi Zo Li Fitzpatrick |

The butter chicken was WAAAAAAY too sweet, tasted like dessert. I got the chicken tikka for my two y/o son and it was way too spicy (didn’t mention anywhere on the menu that it was gonna be this spicy) that he couldn’t eat it. The iced tea/mango lassi, and garlic naan were good. Maybe it would have been a different experience if we dined at the restaurant, but the food definitely wasn’t as good as the other reviews made it out to be.

This!!!!!!!

We were going to be in Atlanta for a day and Google Search led to this place and all I have to say is Thank You Google! The service is outstanding. They give free and unlimited bottled water. For appetizer, we ordered Haleem (Goat and beef) and they came with freshly baked naan. We also ordered Aloo Paratha. They were so good that we finished every bit of it. For dinner, we ordered goat biriyani and chicken korma. Both were good but we were already full from appetizer. If you are looking for Bangladeshi restaurant in Atlanta, look no further!

Saturday Dinner.

By wallyhawn |

Wife and I, Saturday dinner. This is a small restaurant, with a very friendly Bengali staff, almost a family atmosphere. Attentive, professional staff. Excellent food. We had shingara appetizers (very good), then I had a lamb biryani, which was excellent and perfectly spiced; she had butter chicken. Generous portions. No wines or beer.

High Quality and Great Seasoning

By Andy C |

The food here is very good and prepared with a careful eye to the quality of the ingredients and a willingness to adjust the spicing to your taste. Whether hot, mild or somewhere in between the flavors are complex and well seasoned. The lamb dishes showed their attention to using good cuts of meat. Try the vindaloo or the curries for a real taste treat. The only wish is they would serve beer and wine but they are limited to soft drinks. Well worth the visit and better than most.

My First Bangladeshi Meal - Love it!

By BN-Atlanta |

OK, I don't have a wealth of experience with this cuisine, but I loved everything I tried at this restaurant. The food is similar, but also very different from other Indian food I've had. the owner told me that the Bangladeshi food uses fresh spices as opposed to the dried spices used in most Indian food. We tried the Halim and the Mulligatawny soup for starters and both were delicious (the best Mulligatawny soup I've ever had). We then had the Lamb Tikka Moshol-La (slightly sweet, but not as sweet and more flavorful than other Tikka dishes I've had) and a spicy vegetable dish - Chana Begoon - with chickpeas and eggplant. Of course we had rice and naan bread. I really loved the food. I'm don't have a great tolerance for really spicy food, but even the Chana Begoon, which was quite spicy for me, was so delicious that I just kept going back for more. The Lamb Tikka was so complex and addictive. They had quail on the menu, and the owner told us that this is a something common in his country. I will definitely try it next time - which will be soon. The service was so warm and friendly and the the small restaurant tucked away in a strip mall on Buford Highway is just lovely inside. The owner volunteered that he had just re-decorated and it's really nice. The staff was so knowledgeable and helpful and they were careful to ask about how we wanted the spice level in our selections. You really need to try this place. The food is obviously made with great care and love.

Best Bangladeshi Food In Atlanta

By Ashraf H |

Hands down, best Bangladeshi food in Atlanta, and I like to think I know my Bangladeshi food. We came in on a Saturday night. A bit of a drive in a nondescript shopping center. We were greeted quickly by I presume the owner. What I really enjoyed observing was that it was definitely a family business. We started with the Halim and the Vegetable Shingaras. The Halim was one of the most delicious things I've eaten in a long time--soft-tender beef and amazing lentils. The server was kind enough to give us complimentary naan to enjoy it--made a big difference. We also ordered Chicken Korma and Lamb Tikka Masala, both very tasty as well. What makes this place better than other places we've eaten is the spice level. We love our food spicy, and when you ask for Bangla spicy, it delivers. Can't wait until they open up in downtown so we can enjoy more often!

My Favorite Indian Place

By amarion3 |

We got a vegetable pakora app. I got chicken vindaloo. Husband got lamb biryani. It was all very tasty. Good heat levels. Sauces were made from scratch. Husband loves the mint sauce. The garlic naan is the best I’ve had anywhere. Check them out.

Excellent food, very attentive service

By Tom B |

Went here on a Saturday with my wife. First time at a Bangladeshi restaurant. It was small and nicely decorated. We had the beef Halima an an appetizer, which was very good and spicy. The naan was very fluffy and some of the best we've had. Had fish curry and lamb curry for the mains. Both very good. Because it was our first time they gave us a delicious rice pudding on the house. We enjoy spicy food and the medium was spicy enough. The owner was very attentive and provided a lot of information on the food and wanted to be certain we enjoyed our meal. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Best Bangladeshi Restaurant Around

By Stephen M |

This is hands-down the best Bangladeshi restaurant in the Atlanta area. So many good items on the menu, the staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere is very enjoyable. A must try!

Bangladeshi Curries

By Barry B |

Great Indian curries with a Bangladeshi touch and spellings. Saag was perfect and paneer masala spiced perfectly. The naan was OK and we also had some riata. This is located in Doraville and was quite a drive from midtown, but was worth the trip. We will return.

Simple and well done

Impressed with the food and service. Nothing fancy but good place to get the craving satisfied. Goat haleem in particular was fantastic.

Worth a shot

By MotorCityRebel |

Food: -chicken biriyani (flavorful and lots of chicken) -samosa (flavorful but the side sauces are weak and lack the impact as the traditional tamarind sauce and mint chutney) -aloo gobi (good flavor and creamy) Ambience: Basic and nothing to brag about. Service: The service was good. The server and manger paid attention to our needs and were very friendly and courteous.

Outstanding food and great service!

By icrushboulders |

Me and a friend went there after a long day of rock climbing at Stone Summit, a climbing gym nearby. We were just visiting town and went to this restaurant on a whim. What a great choice we made! The menu has Bangladeshi as well as some Indian dishes. I'd never had Bangladeshi food so I asked our server for recommendations. We ordered a lentil appetizer that was amazing and came with naan bread. The entrees were awesome. Because it was our first time there, the server gave us a small free dessert. I can't say enough about this place, but if you live in the area or are visiting, please do yourself a favor and go there!

Excellent service

Best Indian / Bangladeshi Food in Atlanta

By sanjujus |

Since, I have bengali blood, I creave for Bong food i.e. Macher jhol( Fish curry), Kosha Mutton etc. So thought of trying this place while in atlanta. Undoubtedly best Indian food ( for those who like Bengali food). It was so so nice n tasty, we ended up over eating and coming back to this place very next day. Macher Jhol, Labm Roganjosh ( though not the exact name in manu). Don't except the any decor etc. As that place is very strictly for food lovers. The spice level is just perfect. Just to mention about the spice, our son is cant eat those spice we get in India restaurants. So we are always worried about the what to order for him. And here we got the answer !!! Chicken Palao !!!! just awesome !!!! We love our food spicy, and when you ask for Bangla spicy, it delivers.

As close to authentic Bangaldeshi food

By piyas_ban |

Had a 2 day trip to Atlanta, I am a pure bengali and look for Bengali/ Bangladeshi food joints. Awesome food - the naan was fantastic, the Goat curry was fabulous and - saved the best for the last - the fish curry (Macher jhol). 2 big pieces of Rohu smothered in gravy at your spice level with Basmati rice - feels like back home.. Make sure you go there -

Excellent Food and Service

By travelfourless |

It had been a while since going out for "Indian" food. Our favorite Indian restaurant had closed some months ago so we tried another place recently, which was not very good. I looked up Indian and "Indian Style" restaurants in Atlanta and came across Purnima Bangladeshi Cuisine, and based on the high reviews, we decided to try it. Located on Buford Highway not far from the CDC near Brookhaven. We ordered the Butter Chicken (under chef specials) and Begoon Bhorta (eggplant) dishes, along with aloo paratha (potato stuffed naan bread). I ordered the eggplant mild and the chicken dish medium. One of my pet peeves is that over the years, when I have ordered food mild at "Indian" restaurants, it comes too spicy or when ordered medium, it is different each time. In this case, both dishes were perfectly spiced, the eggplant was indeed mild as ordered and the medium spiced Butter Chicken had a kick, but was not so hot that my mouth was on fire. Being our first time at the restaurant, the owner brought us a complimentary dessert, which was very much appreciated and tasty. The rice pudding was a perfect consistency, not runny like some I have had at lunch buffets over the years. The aloo porata was very authentic and excellent as well. Will definitely be back to try some of the other chicken and lamb dishes. As we were leaving, I saw another customer had ordered the regular naan and it looked delicious. They also deliver within about 15 miles so it is good to know. Purnima Bangladeshi is a hidden gem. Give it a try. You won't be sorry.
