Nice atmosphere, but room COLD in the winter months

By Janet T |

We're glad that Purple has resumed their later service hours since the Pandemic. We have liked going there after the Theater, Opera or Symphony. Their menu provides a lot of choices and price ranges for any diner. I really like their Purple Chop salad. Down sides: 1) The room was COLD. They have large curtains to control the cold air coming in, but the doors are huge, and some people would hold them open thus letting in lots of cold evening air! The entry needs a second set of doors to buffer the outside. 2) Our martinis were on the smallish side and so we ordered a second, which really increased our bill.

Purple

By Sally G |

Lovely restaurant, great wine options. Service was great. Food choices were very limited. Felt like a burger, so ordered it ($20). No cheese, but I asked for bacon jam and lettuce. Then they served it without a bun! But in all it was good.

Fell upon this place and it was GREAT!

By chyechka |

Ate here mostly cause it was raining, and we were sick of walking. Turned out to be very serendipitous! One of the best burgers I’ve had, served with delicious sweet potato fries and a Moroccan aioli. Great service. Good ambiance. Pretty busy with locals, which is always a good sign. Would go back!

Mediocre

By Heather H |

Mediocre describes the food and service. Ambiance is nice but that is about it. Good wine selection. Felt as if we were a burden.

Very Enjoyable Place to Eat (and Drink Wine)

By bhardyfam |

We enjoyed the Purple Cafe and Wine Bar twice on our recent visit to Seattle. The Wine Bar is well located in downtown Seattle, an easy walk from many of the hotels. The atmosphere was fun and had a nice vibe. We enjoyed our meal and there were plenty of great choices. We also found the wine selections to be outstanding and the wines we enjoyed (from Washington state) were wonderful. A great place to eat and or meet for a glass of wine.

Great food . Huge wine options

By Nilesh C |

Purple Wine and Bar is wonderful place. The entrance is like a heavy iron door but once you get inside, you get the upscale feeling. 2 floor long large windows , full of light and huge wine tower in the middle. The place is huge but is always busy. Recommend reservations. The place is loud and not child friendly. More for date night or get together with friends. Service was impeccable. Our huge order was paced keeping in mind limited table space.  We got the following: 1. Gorgonzola dates - simply fantastic. But only 5 half dates for $9 tilts the value for money scale. 2. Baked brie - Wonderfully done. The house cracker is the secret ingredient. 3. Purple chopped salad - Good flavor.  4. Gorgonzola fig pizza - Marvelous. Right amount of sweetness. 5. Four cheese and peppers - Splendid 6. Artichoke and pesto - Sood flavor. 7. Side of fries - sheer disappointment. Too mushy and not at all crispy. But small thing in grand overall great food.  We had a great time. The place is expensive but the experience was great. Recommended for good time!

Prices worth the quality. Beware attack of the gnats (outdoors)

By VFP |

I really wanted to fall in love with this place, but my hopes were dashed when I started eating my dinner salad. Literally out of nowhere were at least 200 gnats for at least 20 min. My friend and I were swatting and swatting. The server brought out different condiments to try to keep them away from our table. It was so bad I didn't finish dinner. And my companion broke a glass accidentally while helping me keep them critters off my meal. eek. They should do better with repellents. On the bright side, the Castel d'Or 'Flama d'Or Cava was wonderful!

A gluten friendly wine bar surprise

By Kathy S |

We happened upon this place at the recommendation of the bartender at our hotel and we were so blown away! Our server Dylan was amazing and made the perfect recommendations of how much food we should order. We had the Gorgonzolastuffed dates, the spicy shrimp and the lamb chops along with Wine pairings and everything was amazing. They were able to make everything gluten-free and even had a gluten-free almond chocolate cake, dessert that was delicious. Dylan made the night!

good place for lunch

By backporch |

We were looking for a place in the heart of downtown to have nice lunch that was not a hotel or chain restaurant. Purple Cafe was perfect. Relaxed atmosphere, nice selection of entrees, salads and sandwiches, very good service. I recommend either for quick lunch or leisurely afternoon meal.

Good Wine Selection

By Daca L |

This is a cute place, with good service in a great location with a wonderful wine selection. While solid, the food was over seasoned. I recommend this place for the wine list, bar service and atmosphere.

Give this one a miss.

By Jean G |

Dreadful. Food, service and atmosphere. The food was quite awful, I couldn’t eat more than a couple of bites. The waitress likely couldn’t help her awkward personality but the service was substandard, regardless. It was freezing in the restaurant, they said it should be warming up soon, it never happened. I can’t recommend it to anyone.

Wow

By AdvisorSuzie |

One of the largest wine selection I have seen. The wine menu is terrific with fantastic explanations of each wine. Food was good. We were there for lunch. Service was superior. Worth going to if you enjoy your wines.

Excellent Food and beautiful restaurant.

By Ben D |

People saying it's a little noisy are right. It is a big open room, so it isn't an intimate setting. However, the food is great and the service was on point. Brussel sprouts and pesto pasta were both really good, and the pizza was also nice. Their wine list is too big if that's a thing. It is also in a nice location downtown, convenient to the convention center etc. I would go back if I was in Seattle.

Very disappointed

By _taraleno530 |

Very disappointed. The Ceasars salad was totally over dressed and soggy. The prawns Frits was OK. But the fries were soggy. The steelhead was OK but both the dishes needed either some starch or rice or something to stop up all the juice. The service was very good and the atmosphere was great. But food was awful

Great Food and Fabulous Wine Flights

By Emma-Louise E |

If you like small plates to share, Purple Cafe is a great place to go. If you love wine flights - even better! And if you love to sample LOCAL wines wherever you go - this place is for you! White, Red and Fizzy wine flights make good local wine accessible - and fun. The roasted cauliflower was delicious! The decor is good, and serving staff helpful and friendly. ONLY CAUTION: Dress warmly! Due to the wine tower in the middle, air is constantly being moved around to stop the top getting cool. I kept my coat on, AND put my fingerless gloves on and was STILL cold. My husband got cold too - and that never happens.Next time we go, I'm going to ask to sit on the balcony and hope it's warmer. As it was, we left before dessert as we were too cold.

Unique restaurant

By B3SR |

Hotel recommended this restaurant for lunch. Menu was standard, but the food preparation was creative and somewhat unique. Service was excellent, although 20% gratuity is automatically added. Only downside was that noise level was somewhat loud, but it was certainly an enjoyable dining experience

Loved purple!

By Pinkneko |

Went here for dinner while visiting seattle and it was so good! Loved the atmosphere and the service was awesome. Food was really good too and in a great location downtown, made for a perfect date night. The wine selection is huge!

Great place!

By karen d |

A co-worker gave us this restaurant as a suggestion while in Seattle on vacation. Made reservation on Open Table. We arrived at 6p.m. and the place was packed. Nice crowd. By 7:30p.m. fairly empty. Service excellent. Food fabulous. I had the chicken with cranberry salad. No greens just green apple, antibiotic-free chicken, celery, seeds, cranberries. DELICIOUS. My husband had the pasta and meatballs. Again DELICIOUS. I would recommend this place hands down.

Slow dining at its finest

By TammaraK |

I've been to Purple Cafe a few times now when I am in Seattle and it never disappoints. Amazing team based service, high quality imaginative small plates and a wide wine selection. All staff are well versed on menu and wine and are great to educate customers. This visit they made my sister's birthday very special. Was interesting to read on the bill that they automatically charge a 20% surcharge but that doesn't go to the staff, it goes to the owner who pays competitive wages and benefits etc. I am not a fan of a required tipping format, but the service was worth the 20%. And make sure you make a reservation to avoid waiting.

Excellent food and vibe — salmon was over cooked (waitress said it would be medium-rare)

By Slabotsky |

Delicious food and a great setting — when you walk in from the street you are in for a surprise. The place is hopping and loud, but somehow, maybe because of the super high ceilings, you do not have to shout to hear each other. We happened to be in Seattle for restaurant week so took advantage of the set menu for $65. Vegetable tempura and date filled with cheese appetizers were shared and amazing. The 3 mains from the ‘set” menu, lamb and vege option were excellent. The salmon was good — would have been great if the salmon had not been over cooked. I am a bit picky with my salmon cuisson so specifically asked the waitress how they cook it and she said medium-rare….nope. It was almost well done. We were a group of 6 so did not send it back so that I would have been eating alone. Dessert was very good and service also very good. I would definitely go back

Excellent!

By Charlie59_11 |

Our 2nd visit to Purple Cafe on visits to Seattle (last time 2 yrs ago). Went back as really enjoyed our previous visit... and it was as good as we remembered. First class dinner. Tasty, fresh food - wagu steak was excellent. Fantastic wine list. Great atmosphere. And, welcoming, friendly and efficient service. Looking forward to going back when next in the city! Highly recommended.

Post-wedding dinner, on a short and rushed visit…. I’m a co-host, but didn’t get to try the foooood.. aaaarrrrrrgh !

By Alok Jolly |

In Seattle on a brief, rushed trip, to attend a wedding.. my son’s wedding ! and co-hosted the a post-wedding dinner. Unfortunately, I had to fly back to NY that night, and though I thought I had covered all bases by booking the last red-eye out, United started playing their usual shenanigans and delaying and cancelling flights, so I had to abandon the event before we got to the food and rush off to try and get on another flight out. Darn it, United… fix your act !! My brand newly-minted Daughter-in-Law once worked at Purple, so the management really turned out a grand evening for us. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.. you were excellent hosts and really skilled at your craft. It was memorable, as befitting the occasion. Purple is located right in downtown Seattle, a five short (uphill) blocks off the waterfront, and very close to the Courts where we had the wedding ceremony. They also have two other locations in the general suburban vicinity ~ share the joy !! The space is large, located in a detached (prime real estate !) glass-enclosed, two-story building with a basement parking garage right underneath, on the corner of Fourth Avenue and University Street. The restaurant occupies the whole structure, and has a wonderful spiral stair leading up to the rear, second level dining space, which wraps around a towering wine-rack: thousands of fine wines arranged around a cylindrical “shelf” structure, with apparently a platform within that can be used for small parties (or so I was told ! ~ didn’t actually go up there….) And, though I did not get to stay for the food, I was there for the early part of the evening, delving into several gallons of wine, spirits and appetizers, all brought on by the excellent crew and sommelier, who turned out in droves to congratulate and welcome the wedded couple. They laid on all kinds of specialties, all of which I can’t name now, but I did want to mention them here and express my appreciation for their generosity and kind attention. I highly recommend this establishment. Even if you aren’t getting married, GO TRY IT !! ….and THANK YOU again, all.

Disappointed

By blpLakeStevensWA |

Purple cafe has always been a great experience for us in the past. The food was always excellent and the service and wine pairings amazing. However, our most recent visit was dramatically different. When I spend almost $190 for 4 of us at lunch I expect above average quality and service. However, our food was overcooked and the service was poor. Once we ordered we never saw our waiter again until after the dishes had been cleared. My salad had so much spoiled lettuce in it that I gave up trying to separate it so I could eat it and left it virtually untouched. However the real tipping point for me was the 20% tip added into the bill that included sales tax being charged on top of the tip! I would normally tip 20-25% for great service but to be charged 20% for sub par service and then add sales tax on the tip while being ignored did not feel right. It also makes me wonder if a guaranteed tip takes away the motivation to properly care for the customer.

Wine and Crabcake

By gwardbeeler |

Overall, we had a nice experience at this restaurant. The wine list is extensive and we received help from the Sommelier, who made a very good recommendation. Nice touch to pour the wine into a carafe. For appetizers we had the crab cakes, which were delicious. We also had the artichokes, which were ok, too much breading and not enough artichoke. For mains we had the salmon, which was delicious. I had the special pappardelle pasta with truffles. That dish was a disappointment, not much truffle, flat in flavor and very overpriced. I’d rate service as a 3 out of 5. The wine steward is rated 5. Our server was indifferent. The person clearing our apps forgot to bring new silverware. At checkout she stood over us while we were trying to calculate the tip. For the price we paid, this should have been an all around exceptional experience.

Spectacular bar with good Negroni.

By MagnusResenar |

Spectacular bar with high ceilings and an impressive wine shelf in the centrally located staircase. One of the best Negroni I've ever had.

Don’t miss it

By jhassinger |

My wife and I had dinner her this evening. We had the dates, spicy prawns and the seared halibut. Every dish was excellent. The prawns were like bbq shrimp from home (New Orleans) but maybe better. Loved every dish.

Go to here for good meal and people watching

By Michelle M |

We were sat right next to the window and were able to view people walking by after work. Nice place with a good variety of dishes on the menu. I like that you could order a smaller sized salad. The peanut butter dessert was great. It did get busy on a Sunday night-I would recommend reservations if you plan to eat a meal at a table. The wine tower in the middle of the bar is cool to see.

By ProTravelAv8R |

Amazing Flight of WIne choices, recommended combinations of meals.... Lovely, Sexy views of Seattle. Modern Polished Cement Bar, Wrought Iron Tables, Chairs, and the Piece de Resistance .... the Absolutely Astounding center column of wine that can be viewed from the across the street and down the block....

Rude hostess, tasteless food, extortionate tip

By Caprietta |

We arrived shortly before four pm when the place was about 30% full. The hostess barely acknowledged us and even made a phone call while we were standing at her desk. When she bothered to speak to us, she said she could seat us upstairs if we could promise to leave by 5:15. Then it took 8 minutes for us to be seated, and that happened only after I specifically told her it had been long enough and it was time. Now. We were the only people upstairs. The main floor was still more than half empty. The table was set with menus but no wine list — at a wine bar. The waiter upstairs also didn’t acknowledge us until I walked over to where he was fussing behind the bar and asked if we’d done something to deserve such poor service. He swore it was inadvertent and then proceeded to provide good service. However the food was so bland two of the six didn’t eat their meals beyond a few bites. No amount of salt on my risotto could give it any flavor. Others at the table commented that their food badly needed salt. One companion loved the baked Brie. Then the check came and they’d added a 20% service charge — and tax on top of that — thus forcing me to pay a 22% tip when 15% would have been appropriate given the entire experience. I have taken this restaurant off my list of places to patronize.

Loving Purple for all the right reasons

By Duchess_Tiffiny |

From the lovely atmosphere with an amazing floor to ceiling tower of wine and rustic-chic bathrooms...to the delicious food (the cranberry chicken salad was amazing!!!)and the fantastic staff...I love this place! Our new friend Andrew was great at taking challenges to “surprise us” with a delicious cocktail (the Josephine dream) or fruity mimosa (pineapple & another with grapefruit), he always checked in giving the extra touch to make sure we were taken care of, even making sure to ask “ are you in a rush or able to stay a while to enjoy yourselves”. Andrew provides solid suggestions and advice on things to try as well. We enjoyed ourselves so much the first day we came back the next day and asked for his section. If you are reading this Andrew, your new friends from Oregon will be back to see you! 😁 The Cranberry chicken salad was delicious, light with amazing flavors to delight your tastebuds and enough protein to give you plenty of energy for the day( I had it both times) and their french fries are perfection!! Perfect spot to stop into either before or after going to the 5th Avenue theater. Enjoy!

An amazing experience for a large group

By Christina R |

I coordinated a corporate event in Seattle, early October. My team of 18 visited many of the popular restaurants in the downtown area. Purple was hands down, the best dinner experience during our trip. Every course was amazing and the staff was very attentive. Coordinating a group dinner in Seattle for 18 is not easy given restaurant space restrictions. Purple did an amazing job across all fronts. Thank you for such an amazing experience and thank you to Betsy for her attentiveness in coordinating the event.

Great wine, food AND service

By SirReelLife |

Perfect for my wife and I, energetic but yet relaxing ambiance. Incredible chicken liver mousse. Our server Liam was pleased and happy to suggest a wine for ever course of our meal. Ask to be sat in Liam’s section!

A must try

By Patricia M |

What a lovely experience. The ambiance is wonderful and the food even better. The service was perfect. You must take a chocolate chip cookie with you.

Mediocre food in a cavernous space

By Susan C |

We were hoping for a small cozy cafe and wine bar, so were immediately put off by the cavernous space. We were seated at a nice table by the window though and service was friendly if not terribly knowledgeable about wine (our server was very young). We made a meal of several shared appetizers, each of which was just ok. The burrata was tasty but the presentation wasn’t great. Salad was fine, nothing special. Crab cakes were slightly cold and the calamari was overly salted and sauced. Wine was great but at $18/glass it should have been. Overall, neither the food nor the atmosphere was worth the $200 price tag.

great ambiance, nice decor, good food

By Liz D |

really enjoyed my experience there. Really like the decor/ambiance/design of the place. food was delicious. had the lobster mac and cheese. Wine pairings were nice and wines were good

Date night fun and glam!

By Susan M |

Great food and ambiance in downtown Seattle. We love the variety of wines they offer and the pairings as well. Our wait staff was from Germany and recommended an outstanding white that I have never heard of before. What fun to try something new and delicious! Ask the staff for their recommendations. You won’t be disappointed !

Great place for business dinner

By mar |

Halibut was great! Paired with Chardonnay. Appetizers shrimp, cheese delicious. Walking distance from Pike Place. Worth it

Very dark and loud!

By Monica |

We did eat kinda late for us. Around 8. The place was packed. The food was good, albeit a little pricey. That’s the thing with this city, everywhere we go is pricey! So I guess $17 for a cheeseburger shouldn’t have surprised me. The caramels were delish!

Good Food But Poor Service

By Roary |

This was our first visit to this Purple location. We've visited the Woodinville and Bellevue (which is no longer there) locations before, and had good experiences at both, so we had high expectations. We checked-in with our reservations, and they immediately seated us. After browsing the menu, we tried the following: - Minestrone Soup - Good, but smallish bowl. - Steamed Miso Clams - Very good. Broth has a lot of depth. Wish we had more bread to soak it up. - Baked Brie - Very good. Nice use of phyllo pastry. Would definitely order this again. - Dungeness Crab Cakes - Good, but expensive for the amount we got. - Truffle Mac & Cheese - Very good. Both kids and adults enjoyed this dish. - Duck Confit Appetizer - Good. - Assortment of Mini Desserts - Average. Nice to try a little bit of everything, but nothing outstanding about any of them. - Sea Salt Caramels - Kids loved them. I didn't get a chance to try any. Service was sub-average. The server was new to the restaurant, and wasn't very familiar with the menu. Wasn't particularly interactive or attentive. either. He did the minimum to service our table. The table next to us had felt ignored and had to wave him down to take their order, so we knew it wasn’t specific to us. Overall, the food was fine, but the server was subpar, so that was disappointing.

Gorgeous Restaurant & Large Wine Selection, but Underwhelming Food

By Kristin V |

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful! Loved the ambiance. The service was also good, but the food was underwhelming. The burrata appetizer was yummy, but needed to be served with more bread. The oysters tasted fishy and not fresh. The beef and seafood pasta dishes were nothing special, and we all agreed that the kids cheese pasta was the favourite. It’s such a nice environment, we’d give it another try, but order other dishes and enjoy the wine.

Nice spot, a little expensive

By Dihizzle |

The location is great and the place was very clean. It’s a trendy little spot. The food was good but a little expensive for what you get. Our server was ok. They do add a 20% service charge, regardless of party size. Our service was mediocre. My feedback is that if you are going to proactively tip for me, the service should match. Bonus points for treating your employees right.

Great ambience. Super wait staff.

By Shaun B |

This was a last minute thing for us. Very glad we stopped by. Really nice space. Buzzy without being too loud. Food ( a series of appetizers ) was very nice indeed. And wait staff / staff were excellent. I know this might sound odd. But this is a very nice place for a “grown up” evening. Good job staff and manager ! We will come back

Good bistro Food in noisy environment

By Eva B |

Great atmosphere, good food, it service slow and very noisy environment, - hard to hear across an even smaller table. Good food, it service should be faster and more aware of each table.

Solo and yummy happy hour at Purple

By Lisa-Marie M |

Purple Café & Wine Bar in Fremont is a great happy hour stop. The lamb meatballs were excellent—tender and flavorful, topped with breadcrumbs and sliced olives. Technically an appetizer, but easily hearty enough to feel like an entrée.

Safe and Delicious

By Hiker_2337 |

We were at ease in this establishment. they require proof of COVID 19 vaccination. The menu is well designed and the food well prepared and presented. Be sure to stop in and see the wine tower.

Weekend Getaway Made Complete!

By Liv |

My partner and I loved the atmosphere here, and the food. The wine pairings our server suggested were just wonderful! We loved the decor and the desserts!

Excellent Dinner

By Brandy |

Purple Cafe and Wine Bar was recommended by a friend to eat at during our vacation and it did not disappoint. The staff were all very friendly, the wine sommelier was very helpful in picking out our wine, the food was also very good. I had the Truffle Mac and Cheese and my husband had the Fusilli Alla Vodka but of which were delicious and large portions. Overall a great experience.

Nice restaurant neat Pike Market

By J W |

Just a few blocks from Pike Market, centrally located downtown. Waiter was great, food was very good, nice menu selection more like gastro-pub than cafe, seems more grown-up than family centered. I personally was put off by the mandatory 20% tip for all parties, party of 3 for us. Charge more for your entries if you need to pay your staff, tips are the discretion of the patron.

Misleading

By Dan H |

The wine is average. The food is average. The service is average. The policy of a 20% additional charge that doesn't go back to servers is unacceptable. We won't go back even though we like the venue.

Amazing Pairings!

By Trip Reviewer |

This place always has fantastic food and wine. They pair everything perfectly!! Service is always top notch and the ambiance is always amazing.

Get the balcont

By Urbanfarmgrl |

Took a group of 30 in and the vibe was great. Excellent drinks. Big servings. For dessert chocolate caramels. Very nice.

High brow

By modernlizbennet |

We sat at the bar. The wine tower is impressive but this is a high brow restaurant. Not very welcoming for people just stopping by for a drink.

Great dinner

By Amanda DeLaura |

Came here with my family and enjoyed our dinner which lasted for over two hours. Traditional and well prepared food and perfectly paired wine. The only thing to keep in mind is that the dining room can get very loud which is hard for conversations, particularly when in large groups. Great vibe otherwise! The best tar tar around and I highly recommend the artichokes and stuffed dates.

Good but pricey

By Beachbum2d |

Nice restaurant, food is pricey but good. Service was excellent Given other restaurants we experienced in Seattle this was one of the better ones, the only down side being the cost. The bill even had a 5% "Seattle location tax" because the company feels it costs more to run the restaurant in Seattle than at their other locations

Great Surprise in Seattle

By billzobel |

We had only one night in Seattle and our hotel recommended Purple Cafe, and it was a very pleasant evening. Good ambience, good service and good food. The restaurant is very nice and the architect did a great job in every way, also it is well located in the city. Definitely recommendable!!!

Great atmosphere

By Anchise |

It’s a great place to have a bite to eat. I went with a friend of mine and we both enjoyed the food. I highly recommend the lobster Mac and cheese. Also the staff is very knowledgeable. Our server Andrew was amazing! The atmosphere was perfect. It had great music playing in the background. The wine cellar in the middle is beautiful and very unique. I’d definitely visit again.

Excellent time had by all!

By Chimodog |

We had reservations for 6:45 for a party of three. Our table was ready immediately. Waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the menu (as we had very specific questions) We were given different option as to where we would like to sit. The wine menu was about 10+ pages long!!! The waitress suggested the flight of 3 different wines just to see what the differences were. Great idea! Our appetizer came immediately with our cocktails. Then the wine came later with our meals. Everything was excellent. We tried the lobster with mac & cheese. Also, the spaghetti with meat balls. (pork & beef meat) Everything was perfect. The wine "steward" suggested we could take pictures on the staircase leading to the 10000's of bottles of wine. Everyone was incredibly friendly & helpful.

An excellent place - great memories - you will not be dissapponted.

By SiJeeb |

After being away from Seattle for several years I was pleased to see that this place is still around. I was excited to pop-in and have a quick bite to eat. My experience with the Hostess did not start well. I sensed there was a bit of a negative attitude towards me, as I was led to a table at the back that I didn't like. I asked for table more towards the front/central of the place. The hostess was a little hostile with my request and when I insisted to speak to the management, she gave me a better table. As a solo diner I made it clear that I would not be long, in case that helped her with her reservations. Anyway, that was the beginning and the rest of the night went very well. This was made better by my server was excellent. Unfortunately, I cannot recall her name, but she was witty, and very good with details and always there when needed. She was very knowledgeable about the dishes and gave excellent advice. The food at Purple lived upto my expectations and bought back great memories, as I used to frequent the place often when in Seattle. I highly recommend it and you will not be dissappointed.

Helpful Service with good Food

By Antionio10 |

From sandwiches to fried chicken and other main courses, this restaurant will be a good choice for groups or for an uncomplicated meal. Lots of good wine options.

A great place to try out new food and wines

By Gwen B |

Our recent dinner at Purple was surprisingly good, and the fig and Gorgonzola thin crust pizza was outstanding and worth a repeat. Unfortunately, the sommelier was nowhere to be found, but our waiter stepped in with a fine wine pairing. Noise levels are high in this large concrete and glass building with very high ceilings, so be prepared. And do get a reservation!

Best selection of wines

By Val J |

We called in for a wine and were very impressed with the selection of wines available and excellent knowledge of the staff

Lots of wine!

By Samantha E |

Purple is such a wonderful location to get together with friends. We especially enjoyed the impressive wine selection. I ate a light meal of crab cakes and a chop salad, which was quite enjoyable. While the room was a bit chilly, I certainly enjoyed everything else about the atmosphere. Next time I shall bring a sweater, and I think I'll enjoy everything a bit more.

Upscale sophisticated unique pasta dishes in stunning wine centric atmosphere

By fsdukejr |

We eat in lots of good restaurants in downtown Seattle and elsewhere and most of them are quite expensive compared to areas away from downtown. It is not unusual for a couple to spend $125 to $200 with a few glasses of wine. Purple is no exception but it stands up to the best. In spite of the negative comments some have made, we really liked the baked brie. The philo dough was light and crispy. We split the beet and goat cheese salad and the kitchen did the split for us. Each 1/2 was more than enough and we enjoyed it thoroughly. My wife had the spicy Linguine and I had the Basil Pesto with prawns. We have traveled to over 74 countries and have eaten pasta dishes all over the world and these two dishes have some of the most unique and tasty flavors we have ever experienced, rivaling any we had in Tuscany, Umbria or Sicily. Only last week, we had dinner at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. If you are a 5th Ave theater subscriber, you get a 10% discount on the food the night of your show. The atmosphere is relaxed and un-rushed so don't expect fast food. Some have said the service was slow but we were comfortable savoring the moment. We were pleased with the service we received from Salina K. It was very professional. Water glasses were preiodically filled even though they left a water carafe on the table.

Good location

By Karen P |

Definitely want to make reservation since it was a Friday night. We walked from the ferry in about 20 minutes which was central to our guests. A staff member was very helpful in choosing a lovely cab house favorite. We shared the watermelon salad which had few pieces of watermelon. My pasta pesto was a bit dry but my friends fig and goat cheese pizza was very nice and the spaghetti was very good. Much noisier than I remember. We shared the peach/grilled pound cake which I wouldn’t bother with again.

More Delicious than expected

By alisone97 |

Chose this spot based on reviews during our first visit to Seattle. Excellent choice. Delicious food and friendly service. Great atmosphere and ambience.

Fantastic food and vibe

By Edward_Lawton |

Really enjoyed visiting here the ambiance was perfect, the service was excellent and the food was top draw !! My one and only complaint was the restaurant was very cold and found myself having to put my coat back on halfway through my dinner. The steak was perfect, the crème brûlée was so good as was the cheese ! Bigger portions of the cheese would be good for the price and maybe some grapes.

Purple September

By saoaasn |

We had a lovely meal at Purple…you may need to book. A busy spot and very current. Food good and great selection of wine! Good location for Fairmont Olympic hotel

So much better than its name

By davidO7655AL |

Thisn't your average cafe: it's a proper restaurant and wine bar. A large dining area with tables grouped around a six-metre high wine wall. Good service and good food.

Heaven for Wine Lovers!

By Jane L |

Just around the corner from the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, Purple is a wine lovers heaven. It’s a Wine Bar and restaurant with a great vibe. In fact we liked it so much we visited twice during our stay in Seattle. There is an impressive wine tower with literally hundreds of wine to select from, and the wine list is like an encyclopaedia. We loved the wine flights of three 250ml glasses of selected wines. Our favourite was the Alsace selection which showcased local North West wines which were delicious. The menu was varied and the dishes were very tasty and beautifully presented and generous. So much so, that we shared each course on our second visit. We tried the Sweet Pea Hummous, Calamari, Grilled Beef Kofte. This was enough for the both of us. The previous evening we tried the Classis Cheese Burger and the Bucatini and Meatballs. Very good value, especially compared to the prices in some of the large hotels. It’s gets very busy from 6pm onwards and I’d recommend booking. The seating is very comfortable and you are made to feel very welcome. The service was very efficient and super friendly. If you love good wine, this is the place for you.

Great Place

By TheSouth18 |

Lovely place for dinner although opened most of the day if you’re passing. Menu was extensive with a great choice and the food was excellent. Great choice of wine as well but a tad expensive which is why 4 stars and not 5. No kids menu but plenty of large starters to choose from and our 12 year old had one of her best meals of the holiday here.

Beautiful Restaurant with Great Food and Wine

By SaraMae50 |

Very attractive restaurant with terrific food and a great selection of wines. The service was attentive but not intrusive.

Disappointed

By Lena M |

Came here for a dinner. Was seated at the bar. I’m a tourist, I did not have my physical ID card with me, but I had my electronic passport (which they did not except). So they said I’m not allowed to sit at the bar) And the hostess wasn’t able to seat me at any other place. Very disappointed.

Awesome restaurant!

By PhilippeA_09 |

Awesome restaurant with nice atmosphere, excellent food and really good service. Totally worth the price.

Fun spot downtown Seattle

By Brion C |

A huge big airy restaurant with a nice big round bar sitting right in the middle. A great place to meet friends for lunch or happy hour in a great downtown location. A great wine list too with lots of sandwiches and bar food options.

Very modern

By In Joy |

Great wine, great staff and very funky restaurant. Amazing wines but limited menu. I ordered Lobster Mac and Cheese but hardly any lobster so disappointed with meal unfortunately, especially for the price!

Another enjoyable lunch

By adalbert3 |

Good food, pleasant servers and always love the high windows with the daylight streaming in. This last visit we started with their baked brie, then split the Little Gem Salad with Grilled Chicken and the Four Cheese Pizza. We added a nice bottle of Domaine Romain Collet 2015 Chablis and it was an ideal late lunch. We have been here for both lunch and dinner and always like the vibe. Check out my photos for more details.

Great experience!!

By Sarah R |

If I could give this experience a 10/5 I would!! It was by far one of the coolest experiences in our trip. Nichole was so personable. She made us feel like we were special and appreciated having us there. Chris Horn really went the extra mile in give us individualized attention to enhance our visit. He was informative, funny, and thoughtful. The whole experience took away the anxiety of ordering wine with little knowledge/experience. Thank you so much Nichole and Chris. Y’all are truly special additions to the team!

An abundance of Flavour

By Annie H |

Wow was absolutely amazing, we had grilled Spanish octopus for starter good sized portion and very flavoursome, mains we had the spicy shrimp pasta which did not disappoint just the right amount of spice and sauce. Highly recommend if you are in Seattle. Restaurant offered great ambience modern sophistication.

Sets the standard for American wine bars

By lll-T-R-A-V-E-L-lll |

We couldn't have been happier with our visit here. They managed to get us in somewhat last minute on a Friday and gave us a spot with a nice view up above. The food was great (spicy prawns were excellent) and the wine list was an interesting and meandering path through a bunch of great wine regions. The entire staff was incredible; everyone we met was super friendly (and given the team approach we met a bunch of them) Very highly recommended.

Great lunch with drinks

By Jon |

We went here for lunch as part of a wine tour. I can recommend it! The drink menu is extensive. Although they are more known for the wine options, I opted for a beer (a porter from a local craft beer maker) and enjoyed it (I was already having plenty of wine from the tour!)

Fun setting with nice food and interesting wine pairings

By David H |

This is a lively wine bar that seems more likely a bistro than a cafe. Reservations are highly recommended as it is super busy at peak hours. The salads and pasta dishes were creative and tasty. Service was a little slow but the restaurant was very busy. The wine list had pairings of a Washington or Oregon wine with an international or other US wine. There were some interesting contrasts.

Great ambience

By Lesley T |

Loved the venue with its huge floor to ceiling wine collection. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The food was a little more than average but by no means exceptional. The wine list is enormous however, with something for everyone. Reasonably priced for a downtown location.

Food and wine were lovely

By Laineypet |

Having arrived from the UK and been on the go for 24hr we asked our hotel for somewhere local that could offer simple pasta dishes, .whilst not exactly fitting the bill - they did tell us that - but offering a few pasta options we ate here. We turned up around 7.30pm without a reservation and got a table immediately. Service was v good with our waitress offering a few suggestions particularly when asked about glasses of local wine..her suggestion a local Chardonnay was lovely. 2 pasta dishes - a primavera and a prawn dish (that was abit spicy) were lovely, fresh and piping hot. We also opted for the special dessert a sticky chocolate cake, that was not what I expected - a chocolate sponge cake - but was very dense and rich, we still managed to eat it. The total bill which includes $5 for a staff fund?? which you can't remove, taxes and tips came to $140..pricey in UK terms but seems to be the costs these days in the US. The only issue I had was the doors/chairs etc are solid steel so v heavy to open / move. I'd go back

Good drinks

By Wilson L |

We came in for some drinks and had a great time. Definitely would come back! Very extensive drink list.

get the fig bruschetta

By scbeaches |

we enjoyed the tastyyyy fig bruschetta and drinks. fun wine selections including options for "duo" where you can get 2 types of one varietal for ~$16... like your own tasting experience. and interesting cocktails. our server was attentive and detailed. pricey food options. enjoyable!

What happened to Purple Wine Bar?

By Voyagerinpdx |

We’ve been coming here for several years and have mostly loved the service & food - I guess like Seattle there’s been some slippage but tonight was beyond appalling. We were sitting at the bar when a group came in - loud but hey it’s a bar area tho they became pretty loud then the woman sitting next to us put knees to chin on barstool with bare feet - pretty nasty when you’re trying to eat. The staff were slow at best to tell her to put her feet down then she put them right back up. In the meanwhile on our other side a man was openly soliciting two women in earshot of everyone. This used to be a lovely busy fun place but no more - we couldn’t even finish our dinner. This little adventure cost us over $200 - never again.

Good food, amazing location

By Fabricio |

Great food, good value and amazing location right in the center of Seattle. I had a steak with a delicious sauce and a creme brulee. I would definitely recommend this place to out of town visitors. The place has an amazing atmosphere.

Delicious and in the quiet area

By VACATIONLOVERNewYork |

Not so touristy. Found this place by chance. It was near our hotel. Loved the food and the service. Dishes are on expensive side but very good. It goes the same for vine.

Beautiful place

By Ranj & Sukhi Jawanda |

Venue is beautiful high ceilings tall windows, so much space for seating Lower and upper floors. The bar area also has a seating area which was our favourite place to sit. In the evening the lights and the street lights light up the whole restaurant looks very romantic and relaxing for a glass of wine. We ordered one of the cheese boards they have seasonal jams and we had plum jam which complimented the board. We opted for red wine they have a local Columbia Malbec which was really nice although there are so many many to choose from. Whether you buy a glass or bottle doesn’t make much difference in price. It can be quite cold so maybe bring something warm with you just incase. Service can be slow, after 1700pm becomes quite busy, and gets packed might be better to book a table. Free WiFi, seating is family and child friendly, and nice clean toilets on site. Not too noisy prefect place to end the evening. Approx $120 for two people for food and wine.

Wine extravaganza

By LondonWelshboyo |

The centrepiece of this place is a huge spiral wine staircase that houses their collection. It's a big space and quite noisy. Food and wine pairings are spot on and the service is efficient and knowledgeable. It's much better than a cafe.

First class Italian restaurant

By Charlie59_11 |

Restaurant has a real wow factor & a great buzz. Service was excellent - friendly, helpful & efficient. Nice food & wine menu. Fresh, tasty food & we had a lovely bottle of red wine - restaurant's choice! Really great night. Highly recommended.

What a great find!

By mrmice |

We were traveling with another couple and were actully looking for another wine bar and couldn't find parking. This was second on my list so we went in. We didn't have a reservation and it was the beginning of dinner time but they sat us anyway. The waitress we had was so nice and very knowledgeable and entertaining. They had a wonderful of different kinds of selections of wine flights. We each loved the ones she recommende for us after inquiring about our tastes. We went looking to purchse some of the wines. I would love for the wineries to be 1/2 as wonderful as this wine bar. We have freinds that live in the area and they will be bringing their friend here. We didn't eat, but the menu and the food they were serving looked wonderful and we will definitely make a reservaton and spend time her on our next trip to Seattle. There is only one down side to this place. The front door is so heavy it took more than one of us to open it. Part of the adventure!

Would not recommend.

By juliemK6274YN |

Well what can I say. We tried it but would not recommend it. Booked for dinner and were seated by the window, where a few large bugs kept circulating around our table from the large window. Ordered a bottle of white wine, sav Blanc, they deliver it, open it, pour the glasses and leave it on the table with no wine bucket. We progressed to try and get rid of the flying bugs. Our server (who we eventually found out didn’t work at the restaurant….was only there helping out) took our food order. Asked a few questions about the menu items but he was light on with detail. We only ordered two entrees and ordered a salad to share with our mains. We eventually get the attention of a waiter to bring us an ice bucket….so we give up our side plates to accomodate the wine bucket on the small table. Our food arrives, looks good. Our server eventually appears and we ask him about a couple of vegetables in the salad. He tells us, he dosen’t work for the restaurant, rather he was there helping them out and worked for the company? So we had no idea what a couple of the vegetables were. He eventually asked the receptionist and came back to us with it was a type of radish. No one came to pour our wine, so we did it ourself. No one came back to check on us. The service was poor. Eventually we finished and the server gave us a menu for dessert. We didn’t stay, we finished our wine, paid $200 USD for a meal which was ok.

Great service, average food and surprisingly average wine

By B J K |

Two couples out for dinner tonight. Nice atmosphere. Agree with other posters that the place is on the loud side but we could hear each other just fine - I would call it lively and positive instead of loud. Had an open table reservation and got seated right away. Waitress was fantastic. Very attentive and kept giving my wife tastes of wine to go with her filet but despite their fairly large wine selection, they did not have a really great big red to go with it (by the glass anyway). Cheese plate to start was nice. Food was average in my opinion. They add on a 20% tip regardless of size of the party or the quality of the service and then "per state law" they add the tax on the meal plus the tip. I wanted to like it more than I did and at $75 per person I expected a little more so I would give it a 3.

Cool vibe, service not so much

By Formiga |

We came here for a late meal. We were happy they could seat us pretty quickly. We all had drinks and food. The food was pretty good. The pizzas, salads, soups, appetizers were all pretty good. But our server seemed like anything we asked for was a huge deal. Like he couldn’t be bothered. Perhaps they were short staffed but it wrecked the whole experience.

Great Room

By VahidJafari |

Restaurant has a beautiful bar, ordered the gorgonzola date which was amazing. Service was slow, I would’ve had more food and drinks but the bartender didn’t realize i was sitting there with empty glass of water and no drink. I wanted to leave by the time they asked.

Good early evening meal

By William L |

We were recommended to go hear by our hotel (Marriott Renaissance which is close by). We both had pasta dishes which were good and large portions. Service was a little slow but pleasant. Prices not cheap but good value, although 20% service added automatically which goes to the management (as they state that the staff are appropriately paid et.) is a bit odd why not just increase the prices and say no tipping? It was getting busy as we left a 7pm so best to book.

A Perfect Lunch

By Cskerbeck |

My daughter and I were recommended the Purple Cafe by the concierge at our neighboring hotel. We split a turkey sandwich with fries, and I wish I could have eaten everything on the menu!! I’m looking forward to going back next time in Seattle. All the food that came out looked amazing. I had a delicious mimosa. They do serve beer here too.... Ambiance was great. Very clean and servers/bartenders extremely courteous and attentive.

Delicious

By Holly M |

A friend and I ate here after a long day of sightseeing. The service was excellent and the food delicious. The pairings were spot on and relatively inexpensive. I had the special which was pan seared scallops. Amazing! The sea salt caramels are wonderful. I even bought some to take home!

Lovely Atmosphere

By Nottravelmuch |

Lovely Atmosphere.Server very professional and helpful accommodating my keto diet. Also very experienced regarding the wine. Some dishes better than others. The cauliflower appetizer was boring and substandard. The scallops were done nicely but the pork was actually burnt hard cubes on the dish. The greens were also a tad over cooked. The Gorgonzola and pear pizza was delicious. The bread pudding was also a winner.

Snobby Service

By Joan P |

This was our first time to Seattle. We checked into our hotel and asked the front desk if they had any recommendations for lunch. Purple Café and Wine bar came highly recommended. We walked down to this lovely restaurant with beautiful front doors. After entering the hostess asked if she could help us. I asked for a table for 3. She asked if I had reservations. I did not and explained that the hotel had recommended this for a late lunch. They made no mention of reservations. Her retort was "well, you can't trust anything the hotels tell you around here. " WOW! She happened to find us a table, (there were quite a few open) and we proceeded to have a lovely lunch. The food was delicious and our waiter was very nice. It was just very off-putting to have the 1st encounter with this establishment so negative.

Tasty

By d22randy |

Purple was a happening spot on a Saturday night. We were able to get a spot to share an appetizer, salad and main dish. It was busy, but we didn't feel overlooked and it didn't take too long. The food was delish. Service was great. Our only tiny complaint was that it was pretty dark and kind of loud....I guess we are in our 50's!

Fab

By Nairnair |

Called in for late lunch was still here for early tea , food was so tasty ,red wine was good as well but staff were excellent

Great casual spot

By Christine C |

Great lunch spot. In and out quickly so we could get on the road. Staff is very friendly and you get a great view of the city life!

Good food and wine in tasteful setting

By Thomas Serup |

The place itself is impressive with its high ceiling and seating around the stairway centerpiece that also serves as wine storage and bar. Had the trio wine selection. Which offers the opportunity to try wines one may not usually choose. I for instance tried wine from both Mexico and Georgia. We chose a snack menu to accompany the set of wines which was also very good.

Quick Stop for a glass of wine and appetizers

By Steven A |

Perfect spot across from Fairmont for a glass of local wine and appetizers after busy day before heading out for a meal. Great stair of wine bottles, nice atmosphere for conversation. Staff very helpful

Excellent and diverse food for a group dinner

By The Business Traveler |

Excellent and diverse food and wine! Had a group dinner and we enjoyed it. Although we did lose our voice screaming at each other across the table, it’s a very noisy place. Chairs are very uncomfortable but the interior itself looks quite trendy.

Fantastic Dining Experience!

By ruthk191 |

What a wonderful dining experience! From the moment we walked through the doors (and had our vaccine cards checked) we had a fantastic evening at Purple Cafe. Our server, Selena, was witty, knowledgeable and attentive. She was versed in the suggested wine pairings but also suggested other wines when we veered from what was the suggested pairing. We started with calamari which was light and crispy as we leisurely sipped our cocktails. My three dining companions all ordered the Seared King Salmon. The consensus was it was one of the best salmon dishes they ever had. The accompanying combination of grape tomatoes, basil, corn with tomato vinaigrette, complimented the salmon in a highly satisfactory manner. I chose the Corn and Mushroom Pasta to which I added prawns (Selena's suggestion.) This is a seasonal offering which also had, pancetta and pecorino Romano and was served over orrechiette. The soft, sweet crunch of the corn with the pancetta were very flavorful. The portion was large so I did not finish the pasta. The prawns were a slight disappointment. Though they had the light crunch of being perfectly cooked, the exterior was slightly "mushy" suggesting that they were frozen rather than fresh. A side note that there was a selection of gourmet sandwich type entrees. We treated ourselves to dessert. Sea salt caramels, cherry apple crisp and vanilla bean creme brulle. They must have been delicious from how fast they disappeared! The atmosphere of Purple Cafe was fabulous. A soaring ceiling made it almost felt that we were dining outdoors. Wine was displayed in a circular tower at the heart of the bar, with a spiral staircase to reach the highest bottles. Tables were space so that you did not overhear conversations. Highly recommend this venue for your next evening out!

Could be great

By Rosiegirl2 |

This place has all the makings of greatness; fantastic wines, delicious food, great location, beautiful interior. However, the Friday evening we were there, the ratio of serving staff to patrons was about 1:6. It wasn’t super busy and I think that is why we received less than stellar service. The serving staff were more interested socializing with one another than with paying attention to their patrons. Several were hanging out at the host area, and a few more by the back near the kitchen...just chatting with one another, and we had to wait to order drinks, get the check etc. When staff aren’t hustling (not worked off their feet but just busy) then they are simply not as attentive, unless they are trained to be so. Staff needs more direction to elevate the customer service at Purple, and then this place would be amazing!!

Nice Find

By tanya4 |

We arrived In Seattle on a Thursday and decided to stop on for dinner as it looked like a “hot spot”. We had no reservation (which I recommend), but were very gracious to work something out. Fresh Salmon was delish as was cranberry chicken salad. In depth wine list and cocktails. Definitely worth a try!

Outstanding and a new regular spot for us in Seattle

By Moss |

Fabulous from start to finish. The service, the food, the ambiance...the quality of toilet paper. Our waitperson, she was from Italy and Hawaii, was wonderful. She was welcoming, made great suggestions and all the while was ensuring that we would have an enjoyable visit while making sure we were out the door in time for a show at 5th Avenue. The burrata starter? Delicious and has me thinking of ordering the squash entree when we return next month and I am far from a vegetarian. The short rib pappardelle was wonderful, I regret not ordering a side baguette so that I might not let any of the sauce escape. The tiramisu was better than I had hoped for, decadent flavor. The Moscow Mule was a great start to the meal. I will now be looking if they are open late enough for a post show drink. Well done Purple people!

Wine Tower

By redhead_roaming |

How could you not love the beautiful wine tower in this place? I've only been here twice and only for drinks but I've enjoyed my time each time. This is one of those places that, despite not going to places more than once very often, this is a place I would like to go back to again and again.

Good food, good wine - HORRIBLE Service

By Melinda D |

Horrible service - I felt the waiter was trying to get us out of the restaurant so that he could collect his tip. The restaurant has a new policy that all customers are automatically charged with a 20% gratuity. I think this led to the mentality of the waiter to get us quickly through our dinner, so that we would leave and he could get another table. As good as the food and wine were, I will likely never come back due to the low quality in service. This is a wine bar and historically has been a great place to go to hear about the wines, and have the ability to taste all varieties of wines. I have come to this location many times and have also gone to the Woodinville location. This experience really left a bad taste in my mouth and I will likely ot be back.

Amazing wine list & good food!

By SRVTix |

Went for dinner & drinks on a Friday night. The food was delicious and the wine list was like a good book - so many options too! Started with the Cauliflower appetizer and had the steak with (duck fat!) potatoes...not a wrong choice in the bunch.

Trendy

By KSSeaB |

This is a very trendy place. Interesting decor, staff have the requisite tatts and body piercings, most of the diners are beautiful. We enjoyed people watching. We didn't enjoy the noise level. At lunch time, the restaurant was very loud. As the lunch crowd thinned out, the noise level decreased significantly. Our waitress was Chrissy and she was very good. Purple Cafe, like Steelhead Diner, adds 20% to the bill; and clearly state that additional tips are not expected. I had a BLTA with sweet potato fries. The sandwich came on sourdough bread which I liked. However, I did not get avocado on my sandwich -- I got an avocado spread. It does make a difference. By the time I'd eaten half a sandwich and most of the fries, I was getting full. I chose to not eat the rest of the bread. Instead, I ate the tomato and bacon. I wanted to eat the avocado slices, as well, but found that there weren't any because the sandwich did not in fact have avocado on it; it had an avocado spread. My husband ordered the Roasted Turkey Sandwich. He asked that his french fries be crispy and they were. However, he found the crust on the sourdough bread to be too chewy, making it a little difficult to eat. I highly recommend that you have one meal here.

A fun place, not perfect

By GENNADY S |

It is a fun place, full (on a Saturday night) of people. The wine tower in the middle is nice. The food is good, but not outstanding. Wine pairings are excellent. The service is friendly, but not too attentive: they never checked how we were doing and never offered to refill our coffee. Overall, you would not make a huge mistake by going there.

Good wine and fair cocktails

By 1Cam |

We went in for Happy hour. Wine was great and cocktails okay. We had some of their snacks which were really nice. Not so happy when they automatically added a 20% service charge on the bill... would like to be able to decide my own degree of tipping!

Exceptional Balance on Food

By SkykingCT |

The first thing that hits you when you walk in is the cavernous clerestory space featuring a wine tower. Despite being open, at night it takes on a cozy feel. It was restaurant week so I had the tasting menu and we also shared a couple of small plates. Impressive balance of tastes on all the dishes and a unique twist on a many tranditional offerings. The front of the house is a bit of a mess. Had a reservation, still had to wait, then when escorted to our table it was not ready. Experiences start at the front, so the loss of a point was necessary. Still a great place to enjoy a cocktail and great food.

Dramatic wine display, delicious food

By Bill B |

Except for signs outside, there is nothing obviously purple about the Purple Cafe, that is until one discusses with staff and learns that the owner/founder had purple grapes in mind when selecting a name. The restaurant has a dramatically high ceiling with a giant column of wines in the center as part of the bar. The open air feel with floor to ceiling windows adds to the uniqueness of this space. My server was most helpful in explaining wine choices, and I settled on a Washington State Chenin Blanc with a crisp clean taste that was perfect for me. The appetizer of dates stuffed with gorgonzola and sprinkled with pinenuts, balsamic vinegar, and bacon was delightful. The only strange aspect of my visit was that after 30-40 minutes of finishing the appetizer, I was asked about dessert. It was then that the staff realized the kitchen had forgotten my main dish of Fisherman's Stew. Eventually the stew arrived and was a huge, flavorful and spicy mix of shrimp, clams, mussels, calamari, salmon, and octopus with capers and herbs. I eventually did order dessert and selected the house made sea salt caramels covered in chocolate. A perfect close to the meal. No one suggested I be given a free glass of wine or dessert to make up for the long delay in preparing my dinner, and I chose not to mention to the front staff who had been so friendly. Fortunately it was a Sunday afternoon, and I had nowhere to go, but still, the kitchen needs better coordination.

Nearly perfect

By Wandering1 |

Classy space. Great cocktails. Our server, Betsy, was awesome. Wonderful wine selection. We enjoyed our visit to Purple. The only reason we gave this a four instead of five was that the crab Mac n cheese didn’t have much crab, which was kinda what drew us to Purple in the first place. Still, well worth a visit.

Overpriced Fries

By Marylou B |

Ordered Surf & Turf frites with lobster, got crab! Guest chose this restaurant, I would not have… my meal was a small piece of flank steak, a few pieces of shrimp and an over abundance of regular fries! Nothing distinguishable about the meal and definitely overpriced for what was served. Staircase is impressive and the wine was good but not the food!!

Café by name but not by nature.

By Gardengel-IoW |

Very good service and food, so good we went back again. Within in days. I did find the space chilly in temperature, it was very cold outside too, but I needed my wrap to keep warm. Loved the wine tower, not that we saw anyone use it.

Pricey Surcharge Average Food

By JJT1890 |

One of our entrees was delicious. The chicken Marsala was superb. However the steak with bearnaise sauce and fries was not great. The steak was smothered in the sauce and the fries were overdone and not tasty. At the end of the meal we were surprised at the 20% surcharge plus a tax on the surcharge which by the way is not a gratuity. Needless to say we will not be dining there again.

Great for lunch

By Manuelq57 |

After a day of sightseeing, the Purple Café was our destination for a light lunch. We walked in without a reservation, but it was not crowded so we had no problems getting a good table. The restaurant is spacious, and the central core is impressive. Lunch was a BLT for me and a roast beef sandwich for my friend. This may not sound much but both sandwiches were delicious. I had their Bloody Mary which complemented my lunch with the right amount of spices and alcohol!!!.

Great food and wine experience

By Gman558 |

We enjoyed two excellent dinners in Purple Cafe. The service on both occassions was excellent (relaxed but efficient) from both Isaac D & Nicola M. For us the best part of the experience (beyond the great food) was the huge wine list. Our favorite was the Starside Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvigon. Very modern open plan feel to the restaurant, and it seemed relativly easy to book on open table. A great choice if you are in Seattle

Great wine selection + Great food!

By kcline99 |

I walked to the Purple Cafe from the W hotel (only 1 block away) and had dinner with coworkers. We ordered the flights of wine, which was a fun way to try a variety of unique wines from locations that I wouldn't think of ordering (Georgia, Israel, etc). We started with several appetizers. The Baked Brie and the Gorgonzola Dates were fabulous - big flavor and both nicely done. The Cauliflower fell a little short in my opinion - a little bland and more raw then grilled. For my entree I got the pesto pasta and I added shrimp. The pesto was abundant and flavorful! The service was more on the 'relaxed' side, but our dinner was so good, it was hardly noticeable until we left and we realized how long we had been sitting at our table. We were there on a Tuesday evening at 7pm and the restaurant was very full, so I would recommend making reservations if you can.

Excellent spot for dinner and drinks !

Great vibe to go with amazing food and wine

This is a must wine bar that central to everything but not overrun like many near Pikes Place....Gorgonzola stuffed dates with bacon - need I say more?

Great ambience. Lovely service.

By kaushal-s-shah |

The ambience was great and service was very good. Try the penne pasta - definitely cannot go wrong here.

Pleasant and lively

By Lottie |

If you like good food and good wine... go here!! We visited mid afternoon and both sampled the wine flights, the bar snacks looked amazing so we booked in for our evening meal on a Friday night. We chose the pizza and pasta, which were both delicious. The waiter helped reckoned a lovely wine to accompany the meal based on our food choices. The bar area looked great and there was a pleasant yet lively atmosphere. We would certainly go back here for a third time if we were locals!!

The BEST burger!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We ate here the day before our cruise left and my goodness were we shocked at how amazing the burgers were. By far the best burger we’ve ever had. Highly recommend!!!

Perfect Date Spot in Seattle

By Jake T |

Purple Cafe never disappoints in the quality of food, ambiance, and fantastic service. Each of the waiters is well versed on the menu, and provide excellent suggestions. We always try to swing by for dinner any time we are in the Seattle area.

Good, not great

By shelloster |

Walking in we were expecting delicious food and wine. We had appetizers, they were ok....not great....did not eat the whole thing as we did not like them. We both had wine flights and they were not very good either. The service was good, the view was nice. The staircase with wine was awesome to see.

Great place!

By Lore G |

If you're into wine this is your place! We also really liked the food, we ordered some pizzas and really liked them.

Delicious

By joburkholder1 |

Delicious menu and a good happy hour menu too. Service at the bar was nice. the decor of the eatery is open and lively.

Wonderful for wine lovers

By hawktraveler8 |

This place has ambience! We arrived in Seattle late so had an 8:30 reservation. This was a great place to kick off our long weekend trip. It was dark and had a great vibe. I was with a friend but this is a romantic place. The wine tower was so cool to see and the wine menu didn't disappoint. We loved that they offered duo tastings-two diff wines of the same grape. Food was fine but we were really there for the wine. Staff was very friendly and prompt.

Wine, Food, & Laughter- The Perfect Pairing

By PreBetty |

It’s been a good 5 years since we have been to Purple, and am so happy it is just as good as last time. I will say that we really missed seeing caviar on the menu, but were happy to enjoy the stuffed dates again. They also have a tomato soup on the menu that I can’t help but mention—- it was so good! My husband loved his scallops, and the Cranberry Chicken salad hit the spot. I’d say next time, I’ll have to try a duck dish or something a bit more rich. Part of the experience at Purple is their wine. They have so many options to pair with their dishes, or just enjoy on their own. When you buy a bottle to take home (or the bottle is unopened) then you get 40% off the price. It was our anniversary, so we bought 2 bottles for home. Great deal! I love the ambiance of Purple. So laid back, romantic, and comfortable. The evening atmosphere is vibrant and buzzes with a low hum of people chatting and laughing over wine. Fun date night spot, but also great for a nice meal with the family, friends or colleges.

Great Service and Delicious Food!

The title says it all. Great spot for brunch. Had the short rib hash and the brie and crab cake appetizers along with the mimosa flight. Will be back .

One of my go-to places in Seattle

By Tania N |

I discovered this restaurant when I was visiting Seattle regularly for work. Its been 12 years since my first visit and the food, wine and cocktail selections are still excellent.

Nice Ambiance

Nice place to catch dinner in the downtown area. Very conveniently located. The food and service were great. Our waiter Jeff was excellent. Would highly recommend.

What a lovely dining experience

By bitler |

This is a gem of a dining and drinking environment. If you are a lover of wines...this is the place for you! They have an incredible selection. We went for dinner and we had a lovely time. The interior is casual but comfy and it is very large. Purple lights make it seem very elegant. The service we had was fabulous. They have portions in small and large sizes which is terrific. I had one of the best salads I have ever had. My hubby had a great pesto pasta dish. The baguette was amazing. I ordered a wine by the glass and my server suggested a less expensive wine which turned out to be lovely. This was a highlight of our dining experience in Seattle and Portland.

Solo Dinner

Managed to book in for some dinner, beer and food very good. Service faultless. Quirky place in downtown Seattle.

Noisy, Nouveau and Nice

By PDS591 |

Dinner at this lively restaurant was very good and a delightful visual experience. The huge two story windows catch the twinkling night lights of the downtown Seattle area. The menu had numerous choices from appetizers, salads, pizza and mains etc. . I chose Fried Calamari and Kale Cesar salad, my companions had Lobster Mac and Cheese and a beet salad and Lamb Osso Buco. Service was a little slow and servers seemed a bit rushed. The noise Level was deafening and it was impossible to carry on a conversation. I might be inclined to return during a slower period when it might be quieter. That said, it is a nice restaurant.

A taxable 20% service charge "retained by the company" and added to the bill changed our viewpoint.

By Tim V |

Trendy, noisy, beautifully designed interior, very good service, good central location, pretty good food, but.... This place reeks of owners who are profit driven at the expense of creating repeat customers. Your bill contains an explanation that the employess are paid competitve wages and benefits so that the company somehow deserves the 20% increase to your bill. I can only assume that in this location in downtown Seattle that they are able to get away with this policy and it works. We were there on a Wednesday evening and the place was packed. However, it doesn't work for everyone. We find it deceptive, especially when their prices are a little steep to start with. Their future profits will not include our contributions.

Total Disappointment During Spring Break in Seattle

By whmpam@gmail.com |

Dinner at Purple Cafe and Wine Bar was a complete disappoint and disaster. We were seated promptly at a window by a table and greeted by a surly, gruff, unpleasant waiter. He behaved as though we were an imposition, as though he did not enjoy his job. My wife asked for salmon and was told that salmon was not available. Salmon not available in Seattle???? As her alternative she ordered the grilled butternut squash which she found to be inedible. The squash was mushy and seasoned with too much pepper and presented on a bed of mushy vegetables. So hot that she could not eat it. I ordered grilled octopus which was another disappointment. It was flavorless. The potatoes were the best part of my entree'. Our grandson did enjoy his burger. The waiter did not check after meals were delivered or we would have returned the squash. We visited Seattle for spring break and eagerly anticipated enjoying flavorful, delicious meals. Dinner at Purple Cafe was not one of them. I booked a reservation at Purple Cafe after reading reviews, reading the website and because it was located within walking distance to our hotel. It looked like a fun place to dine and to enjoy a leisurely fine meal. Not so! Very poor service, poor meals. We wasted $200.00 at this restaurant. I cannot recommend for any reason.

Oldie but goodie…

I used to frequent this location when I first moved to Seattle in 2006…still is still a nice place for dinner and on this occasion, after seeing The Nutcracker, it was very memorable. Located downtown, and central I might add, offers a chic ambiance, highlighted by its iconic spiral wine tower. The extensive wine list caters to all, with knowledgeable staff providing excellent pairing recommendations. The menu features elevated comfort food, like the creamy lobster mac and cheese and tender braised short ribs, alongside vegetarian options and seasonal specials. With polished service, great food, and an unbeatable wine selection, Purple Cafe is a top choice for a date night, celebration, or casual wine outing. A true Seattle gem!

Excellent Dinner!!

By 2Klecks |

Loved this place! It is unique. The food and service are excellent. We started with a Hummus appetizer that was very good. For dinner, I had the Half Cranberry Chicken Salad and my husband had the Cassoulet. We both enjoyed our dinners very much. They also have a great wine selection! On a Saturday evening, we fit right in with business casual attire. We would recommend.

Outstanding

By Travelerwithheartmn |

We are here twice on a recent trip to Seattle. Walked by the first night and it looked cool so we stopped in. The good and service were outstanding so went back again. Had the prawns and frites the first night and halibut the second time. Both were delicious. The halibut is the best meal I have had in several years. Great wine selection. Crab cake appetizer was just ok. Vanilla bean creme brûlée was amazing. Carolyn was out server and was very attentive and knowledgeable. Will make it a priority to come back here on my next trip to Seattle.

Second Dinner Did Not Disappoint

By Kathryn N |

We went here for my husband's birthday dinner. The food is excellent and the wine list varied and vast. What really sets this restaurant apart for me is the exceptional service. From the moment you arrive until the moment you leave, you feel like you are valued customers. I particularly appreciate how knowledgeable the servers are about the wine list and we have tried several exceptional wines here. Highly recommend.

Somewhat disappointing

By conferencetravel2023 |

Came highly recommended to us, but fell short of our expectations. Sat at the bar, perused menu and received very little to no advice on the curated wines. Asked a few questions, and it was evident that the staff hadn't been properly trained. Ordered 2 different flights/pairs - and neither delivered what it promised. Food looked good, but was not very flavorful. Pasta was overcooked and shortrib was swimming in cream which completely drowned out any flavor. Atmosphere is very "Las Vegas", lacking the cozy feel of a typical Wine Bar.

Beautiful restaurant with a lovely menu!

By Nancy B |

We went early-ish for wine and appetizers (get the Gorgonzola stuffed dates with hazelnuts!). They had a large selection of Washington state wines and we did duos of two 1/2 glasses. They also have a full bar but we wanted wine and cheese. This place is 5 stars but we ordered extra bread for our cheese board and they forgot it. Great vibe. Beautiful restaurant. Really nice servers.

Food & wine were exceptional but service was below par and rushed

By duck_or_grouse |

So the food and wine list were superb. The seared tuna (a special) and the lobster mac n cheese were divine, as were the wines paired with them (both Colombia valleys, rose with the tuna and white with the lobster pasta). However, in such a lovely restaurant they do themselves a disservice for rushing through service! I don’t mean a little speedy between courses, I mean main courses being deposited on the table before the soup from our first course was finished (no bread, by the way - be sure to ask if you’d like some) and the bill being presented before the mango sorbet was finished. It was presented with a flourish and a ‘no rush’ statement but we weren’t offered coffee or indeed a digestif which in a restaurant of this caliber with an excellent cellar was verging on rude. I would come back but I’d insist on slowing the whole thing down. We were done and dusted and nudged out the door in just over an hour. Taylor, our server, did our table no favors. Pity. Could have been so much more special!

Great Dinner !

We ate late the last night in Seattle. So glad we picked this place ! Our server Chrissy was fantastic and the food was great !! We tried the cheese curds ... so yummy ! I had the watermelon feta salad and it was so good ! I also tried the tomato soup & my husband had the mushroom soup. Loved them both ! Then for the main course I had grilled chicken and he had spaghetti & meatballs. Both were very good. We split some bread pudding for dessert and actually took some of the sea salt caramels home. It was a great meal ! My friend is a wine drinker and the selection was crazy big and the decor with the wine bar in the middle of the room was beautiful. I would highly recommend eating here !!!

Lovely spot for a pre-theatre meal

By chirp54 |

This place is usually fully booked, but we managed to get in for a meal before the symphony. It was rose week, and there were three special tasting flights (my advice: go with the ones from France). They have a huge wine list, as one would expect, but there weren't very many choices by the glass. At a wine bar, I find this disappointing It's short-sighted, too, in my opinion, because someone who is interested in exploring wines they haven't tried will probably want more than 2 choices per varietal. (Ex: 2 sauvignon blancs were available, a New Zealand and a Sancerre. There's a vast range between these two extremes that would bridge the huge gap between them.) The food was good. The baked brie arrives in a beggar's purse kind of pastry - a tad burnt around the edges, but really delicious. The duck breast on a bed of lentils was nicely cooked. The lobster mac and cheese was pretty good, but lost points for presentation. Nice array of dessert wines, including a delicious Malmsey Madeira. Lots of teens there for prom, ordering pizza, mostly. A nice casual spot for a tasty meal.

If you are thinking about the adobo sweet potato, DO IT! And if you like whiskey or bourbon I'd recommend the Sagely Advice, the sage is a neat addition.

Best Meal in Seattle

By USgovt-traveler |

Best meal I had in Seattle. Food was very flavorable and extremely well prepared. I had the lamb chops that were exceptional. Also had the carrot cake which was perfect. Highly recommend this restaurant when in downtown Seattle.

Great wine bar with excellent food.

By Rick+Jan |

We travel for a living and always look for good wine bars that have full meal service as well. FOUND ONE in Seattle! Had a great bottle of Bella Pente Murto Vineyard to start. We split a Purple chopped salad to start and we both had the halibut. Everything was excellent as was the service. Can’t remember her name but she went to school at the university of Michigan. We will be going back before we leave.

Wine O’s

By Hawaii 808 |

We searched Seattle looking for high end wine bars. We arrived at “Purple” and they have a very good selection. The restaurant/bar is open and spacious with an industrial look. The food was good but the menu fell a little short. We’ll definitely try this place again the next time we’re in Seattle but hopefully the food menu will be better.

Tasty food, nice atmosphere

By tcgak1 |

Had the dungeness crab cakes as a meal with sweet potato fries. Food was very flavorful but a little salty for me. I typically don’t use salt so it’s very noticeable if you’re not a heavy salt user. Even with the salty-ness I enjoyed my meal, the sauce was a little spicy and the slaw complemented it well. I noticed reviews commenting about not liking the gratuity added in regardless of the party size. I typically tip 20% so it wasn’t a big deal, some people are just more generous. If you’re not a generous tipper don’t bother going here. As a former waitress in my younger years I can honestly say that no one likes a cheap tipper, ever, lol. It is a little loud but I think that is only because of the room size, it is a wide open space so the acoustics mean that noise carries. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the dimly lit candles throughout.

This cafe is totally stunning. The wine tower around the stairs is worth to watch. The food is also scrumptious and out server was to nice . He was extremely gentle and simply awesome. Worth visit!!

Great Bar and Desserts

By TrailTrekker15 |

Purple Cafe and Wine Bar is a great establishment in downtown Seattle. We found it near our hotel while walking around. We decided to stop in for drinks and desserts at the bar. The drinks menu was extensive with many local wines. The bartender was very helpful describing the various drinks and helping my wife choose a wine. She settled on one of the local wines. In fact she enjoyed the local wine better than the French wine. We also ordered excellent desserts. My wife was able to get a vegan sorbet. The decor and atmosphere is unique and adds greatly to the appeal of the establishment. I highly recommend Purple Cafe!

Average food and poor service

By mintcream |

The restaurant looks good in terms of interior however the experience was not great. We were two diners, grabbing evening dinner in what we were hoping was a relaxed setting - the restaurant was noisy and very cold, it made me want to eat my dinner really fast and leave (maybe that's the plan!) The service is rushed and beyond transnational and there is a 20% service charge added automatically to each bill - if I saw that sooner, I would never have booked a table. Lastly, our waiter crossed off almost half the items on the menu, telling us they were no longer available due a to a menu revamp, it would be good to update Open Table so that people dont book the restaurant on false pretences.

Not Nice

By kinwa |

I was by myself and they asked that I sit at the bar. After I was served my drink and dinner they awkwardly requested I move down to accommodate more customers. No compensation for the inconvenience. I was going to leave a minimal tip but they added 20% anyway. A true test of an establishment is how I am treated when I am alone and this place flunked. Many options in Seattle and I will not return.

Amazing

By Anousch_AMA |

Amazing experience! The book about wines they made is incredible. We tried a lot of the duos and had the opportunity to taste a lot of different wines. The waiter also recommended a few after knowing our taste, which was very good. The food was incredible. You have to try to bake Brie. The only reason why I am giving this restaurant only 4 points is the fact that we had a table of 4 children next to us, we thought it was a 21+ establishment.
