We took the Red Line to Chinatown to eat here. Once we exited the subway station's north entrance, we had to cross 2 streets and continue a block up Wenworth. We located the address but the first available door led down to a partially-deserted Asian food court. I called Qing Xiang to confirm if they were here somewhere, and they asked where I was. Once I described it, they said they would come and get us. The hostess, sans coat, ran down several storefronts, descended the stairs, and flagged us down. She then led us (outside, through light snow) to the restaurant. Now *that* is service! For your reference, the restaurant is located at the far / north end of the storefronts at this address. The restaurant had a loop of some local news profile of them running on a TV above the cashier. They had a wide selection of dumplings and were quick to offer recommendations about cooking techniques vs. the type ordered. My only disappointment was that they did not list frying as a standard option. Our waiter was from Romania, and appeared to be the only non-Chinese on the staff. He was friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant does not have wine (and may not have beer?). We opted for water and hot tea. Everyone liked their orders quite a bit and finished their dishes. I would readily come back to this location again.

I truly recommend this restaurant! Qing Xiang Yuan was a good Chinese surprise and would always come back. The dumplings and the beef were extremely good! Try them out...

We ordered steamed, boiled, and fried juicy dumplings and love them all. Great place to eat dumplings.

Ordered the veggie dumplings & they were good; prepared perfectly. The service there was nice & the staff very friendly.

Delicious dumplings prepared as you like them - a variety of combinations, so maybe skim the menu before you go. Bite-sized dumplings, so able to try several combos at the table. Steady and busy, tables turn at a good rate.

This place was fantastic. The service was great and you can watch them make dumplings in the back. My daughter who is 6 couldn't get enough of this place, so we had to go back for a second time before our flight home. The skin was light and the meat inside was seasoned well to which you didn't really need a dipping sauce. One recommendation is to either go earlier or later in the evening to beat the crowd. It's extremely popular since the food was phenomenal. They even had a spicy soup and grilled items that were equally as delicious as the dumplings. Wish they had dessert dumplings since they don't have a dessert menu. They also told us we can book ahead of time on certain days to make dumplings ourselves. We will be back next year for sure!

Family visit for lunch in Chinatown. Qing Xiang Yuan is known for outstanding, handmade dumplings and it is a must-try for dumpling lovers. Orders of dumplings come either steamed, boiled or fried and in orders of 12 or 18, so it’s best to come in a group if you want to sample multiple varieties. We ordered 4 dozen to make a great lunch for 4. The lamb and coriander steamed, beef and onion fried, and 2 orders of boiled pork and cabbage because they were so fantastic! The dumplings have broth inside, so they are best eaten in 1 bite. The decor is refined and sophisticated compared to the typical Chinatown restaurant. Great experience!

Great dumplings in Chinatown and very friendly staff. We had the beef and green pepper steamed dumplings and lamb and dill pan fried dumplings. Recommend trying them both ways. FYI - it is BYOB

This is one of those places it's worth the extra effort to locate. Chinatown is cool, but not well-marked. You can reserve seating online in this casual, simple spot. The choice of dumplings is impressive and it is provided on a tablet for your selection. The choices include type of preparation as well as ingredients. We loved our shrimp boiled dumplings which had soup inside! The beef and green onion steamed dumplings were tender and moist too. The food was outrageously good and the whole place lends a casual, cozy atmosphere.

The food never fails to delite. The crowd is proof that you are in for a treat. You may have Fried or steamed dumplings. Any way is going to be great

We really wanted to love this place. We saw the feature on “Check, Please”, and our family was very excited to go. We decided to go on a Sunday night - without a reservation. This was our mistake. We put our name in, and were told it would be 40 minutes. We came back 45 minutes later, and waited another 15 minutes. We, however, were still excited. The open kitchen is neat, and you can see the dumplings being made. The dumplings were only okay. We got the pork/coriander, pork/shrimp, chicken/mushroom and the chicken/coriander. None of them would I go out of my way to order again. After we placed our last order for pork/leek, 20 minutes later we were informed that they were out of pork. So we ordered the chicken/coriander - and it was another 40 minutes until we got our dumplings. The server didn’t seem to care that we were waiting - and our new order went in line last....so it wasn’t even begun for another 20 minutes. We so wanted to like this place, but the dumplings are just as good at 4 or 5 other restaurants within walking distance.

Top notch dumplings! They’re ALL soup dumplings with different proteins + vegetables or spices. The chicken + coriander was my favorite and the pork + truffle also super tasty. The cucumber salad is not to be missed!! We had to get a second round after the dumpling feast. The skewers were also all delicious and cooked to perfection, the lamb was my favorite. As always, I get a pot of tea with any dim sum dining. Hits the spot.

Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings is simply outstanding. Contemporary decor, wonderful staff, and most of all, incredibly delicious dumplings with many many kinds to choose from. I couldn't be happier with this place. We even tried a scallop and lotus flower dumpling. You can't go wrong with anything that you order. The peanut / celery and cucumber salads equally delicious. They validate parking at the lot across the street for just 2 dollars. And there are several addresses at 2002 S. Wentworth but keep walking the outside of that building and you will find it towards the end. Best meal I've ever had in Chinatown.

A nice place for trying chines specialty of dumplings. Steamed dumplings are far better then fried once as the flavor of stuffing is preserved. Kim-chi is very good for accomplishment. The boiled dumplings were full of water and the stuffing was finely minced and we could not feel the texture of stuffing. Also tea unlike many other chines restaurants is not free and served as a high price of $10. Waiting period in spite of reservation is 30 min and after order we had to wait 40 min.

My wife kept telling about Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings in Chicago's China Town, and I kept putting her off. But when I finally gave in and tried this small restaurant, I realized what a big mistake I had been making. The lamb dumplings were out of this world--and yes, the kitchen staff is said to make about 4,000 of these mouthwatering delicacies every day. What a treat, only to be followed by a brimming bowl of Hot & Spicy soup, big enough to be shared by two or more. We chose spicy Level 2, and that was plenty hot. I can only imagine Level 3 --whoa! Now I must return to try the Red Oil Pig Ears!

The pig dumplins, just spectacular. A good place to have lunch and eat din sum. The waiters very attentive and helpful. The nice place

Great meal and excellent service. Tasty dumplings and all the food was delicious and served hot! Comfortable venue. Lots of choices on the menu.

If you love all things DUMPLING, then this is your place. Every dish is made to order. So don't expect fast food. The tea service is authentic Chinese. Do try your dumplings with and without the sauces.

Wow! This restaurant is everything that my hotel front desk told me it would be; crowded, with people always waiting to get in & worth every minute of the wait because their homemade dumplings are so mouth-watering delicious. The wait was organized & everyone waiting was polite and not annoyed. The host was very organized, in the way he seated everyone. In the dining room, we enjoyed Wagyu beef & onion dumplings, also the Egg, shrimp & leek dumplings & then, I took a to go order with me of Lamb & dill dumplings because I knew I’d be craving these perfect dumplings later in the evening as a snack and I was not wrong. They were just as good room temperature as they were served hot. I can’t wait to return to Chicago & Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings in Chinatown will be the first stop I make. Chicagoans refer to this restaurant simply as QXY.

I had an amazing time. Great atmosphere and amazing dumplings. No matter what you chose it will be great.

Went there at about lunch time on a Saturday and the wait was long, but after entering our name, we were kept updated by text as to when our table would become available. Accordingly we were seated quickly when we returned upon notification. Beautifully decorated place; the light fixtures looked like floating festival lanterns. We ordered two types of dumplings and went with the waiter recommended type of cooking - steamed or pan-fried. The dumplings were great. Will certainly go back when in Chinatown again.

We went early around 5pm and it was a good thing otherwise we would need a reservation to get in. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful - we had two dumplings - the shrimp with two other ingredients steamed and the lamb and dill fried - we loved both but the fried version was better (each order is 12 pieces) We also ordered the cucumber salad which my husband liked and beef kebabs - very tasty We had sodas as well so our bill was $68. Service was excellent.

QXY has the best dumplings! I ordered 12 dumplings and was basically full afterward, but they were so good that I ordered another 12 and ate half of them right there in the restaurant. Can't wait to get back there next time I'm in Chicago.

Absolutely delightful dumplings. Melt in your mouth lightness, with wide range of fillings and preparations, e.g. steamed, boiled, fried. Servers were helpful in pairing filling with proper preparation as well. Very affordable and BYOB. Very busy, so likely wait a while for table. Best dumplings I have had since a visit to Xian many years ago

This is by far my favorite spot in Chinatown. So many dumpling possibilities and the service is always fast and friendly. It is BYO so stop for a bottle of sake in the neighboring strip mall!

Picked out because stressed dumplings which is what I wanted. Modern blond seating with touch of up class in the restaurant. Went at 5 pm so no crowd. About 20 varieties of dumplings on the electronic tablet/menu along with another 20 more traditional non dumpling Chinese items. Others in reviewing this place have warned that the traditional pot of tea for the table is $10. Sure enough it was there tho the rest of soda, etc are $2.50. You get about ten dumplings in an order which costs between $9 and $13. Worth going there

Wanted to try this place after seeing it on "Check Please" and really wanted to like it since I'm kind of in a rut of going to the same places in Chinatown. Our meal was kind of mixed. There were only two of us and the dumplings come 12 (or 18) to an order, so we really couldn't sample much of a selection. We ordered the chicken with mushroom and the pork with leek, both prepared boiled on the advice of our friendly server. The pork was delicious but the chicken was pretty tasteless. I'll probably be back, but with a bigger crowd so we can try more choices, and maybe a different preparation. Dumplings were fairly priced, but $10 for a tiny pot of tea definitely was not.

Great food and service. Preferred the beef and lamb and pork to the seafood dumplings. But everything overall is delicious. Cool to see the open kitchen and the team making the dumplings as well!

Ever since our trip to China last year I have been dreaming of delicious dumplings like the ones we had in several areas of China. We found this place to be almost as good as what we had experienced in China. The restaurant is small but cozy and the service was awesome and welcoming. They have lots of food options and it was a different and fun time. We ordered several appetizers that were delicious. The buns were yummy with a Smokey flavor. The beef skewers were delicious with a nice spiciness. We had several dumplings, shrimp boiled which were very good. Also the pan fried pork dumplings were delicious. They have really interesting flavor combinations. Overall I recommend this place for a good time, delicious food reminiscent of China and great service. It is a popular place so allow time to put your name in and do some shopping until they text you that your table is ready. Enjoy!

While I like QXY's dumplings, I do have issues with the way they conduct business. I did a takeout from the place for the second time. I called them an hour before pickup to confirm my online order went through and that I'd be there in about an hour. It still took them 10-15 minutes to get my frozen uncooked dumplings ready when I stepped through the door, and it wasn't as if the place was busy at the time. Then they had the audacity to charge me an extra $1.67 (on top of what I'd paid online) for the plastic box with the individual dumpling compartments and fancy paper bag with the restaurant's details to carry my stuff. The employee claimed that I could bring back the box for reuse next time I order frozen dumplings to avoid the charge. Well, I've got problems with this extra fee on multiple levels. (1) I would have brought back the previous box, but nobody told me about such policy. (2) They didn't charge for these last time I did a pickup eight weeks ago. (3) I don't need the plastic box but was forced to accept it; I would have been fine with the generic foam or aluminum container. (4) Is it even hygienic/would it pass food inspection standards to reuse the plastic boxes? (5) The charge is not much, but nowhere on the menu or website does it forewarn about it. (6) If you decide to use custom-made packaging, it's your prerogative, but please be a little more subtle about the expense and include the amount in the price of the dish or be up front about the charge even at the risk of seeming petty and nickel-and-diming customers.

First time visit. Located on the second floor in the northern side of Chinatown. The restaurant is large, bright, modern decor and clean. Our family of ten was seated immediately on a Saturday afternoon. Service was prompt. The items everyone enjoyed were the Imperial Jumbo Shrimp; Chiu Chow Dumpling; Shrimp in Green Chive Dumpling; Chicken Sticky. Crispy Shrimp Roll; Pan Fried Pot Stickers; BBQ Pork Rice Crepe Roll; Steamed Pork Rice Crepe Roll; Xiao Long Bao w/Crab Meat; Chicken Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf; Pan Fried Turnip; Stir- fried String Bean; Crispy Shrimp n Chives; and Wonton Dumplings in Spicy Chili Oil. We didn't care for the Pigeon because it was dry and taste like chicken liver and the Cuttlefish was too chewy. We will return.

We had to send our pork dumplings back to get cooked because they were served to us Pink and the dough was still undercooked despite being pan fried. When we opened the Beef dumpling it was also way undercooked and unevenly cooked in the steamer basket between dumplings. Some were half brown, but most pink like the picture. This is a Health concern. The Owner is trying to claim It was fully cooked!? Brother, LOOK at the picture again that is UNDERCOOKED PINK MEAT!! Overall they were very bland and nothing was special about the taste. Go anywhere else and spend less for more flavor.

The Lamb & Coriander soup dumplings were sooo delicious! The flavor was rich and full, and if you are a dumpling-lover, Qing Xiang Yuan is a must! I eat a lot of dumplings, and these were some of the best I've ever tasted. One order of about 8 or 10 dumplings is $10, so I recommend going with a friend to try a couple different items. I visited on a Saturday in July, by 11:30 when they open, the space was already getting busy. My dumping order came very quickly, and the staff were all lovely and helpful. There is a large window in the back of restaurant, and you can actually see the dumplings being hand made. Qing Xiang Yuan is conveniently located right off the Cermak-Chinatown stop on the Red Line, and is a quick trip from the central Loop area. (took me about 20 minutes each way). I highly recommend this spot, and I will definitely be going back next time I am in Chicago.

Clean, great service and amazingly tasty dumplings. Rivals any fine dining on our visits to China. Lamb dumplings in a coriander were our favorite. Sea weed and cucumber appetizers delicious. Light, creative dressing not spicy. Food was healthy, no unnecessary additives. Normally don’t eat so much but couldn’t stop in this case. Couldn’t believe the price. Were given a gift and escorted out when we left. Totally unexpected but appreciated.

Are you searching for the top dumplings in Chinatown in Chicago?? I have a great recommendation for you! Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings is one of the more popular places to enjoy freshly made dumplings in the Chicago area. This restaurant makes the dumplings fresh in their exposed & open kitchen...super cool!! We tried both the steamed and pan-fried dumplings. This spot offers a variety of fillings, flavors, & methods of cooking the dumplings. We also started with the lamb skewers as an appetizer, which we all enjoyed trying! Because of how popular this spot is, you should expect a short wait. The staff is friendly and rotate the tables in an efficient manner in order to quickly, yet politly, seat everyone.

Came to this place with some friends who live near the area and are familiar with QXY and come here regularly. My friends knew I was looking for asian soup dumplings and told me this was the place to come and they had also been to Din Tai Fung (on the west coast and internationally) so they knew I was picky when it came to dumplings. It did not disappoint and we tried multiple dishes between the 5 of us. My favorite were the steamed beef and onion dumplings, perfect flavor and cooked just right to where they were about to fall apart but stayed together. Also tried the chicken corriander dumplings the chicken wings, the kim chi, and the cucumber appetizer. All were big hits at our table. The only con was the wait. Upon arrival we asked if our friends had arrived yet or had made a reservation ahead. The answer was no so we put our name in. It was 4 adults 1 child and an infant. All tables were full at the time of arrival but there was only one reservation for 1:30 so we figured the wait wouldn't be too long and when we put our name in the system it said there were no people waiting ahead of us. No time frame was given to us regarding how long we would have to wait. It ended up being close to a half hour wait because they only have 1-2 tables available for parties of 5 or more (which really we were kind of 4.5 people since the infant was so small and the child was 7). Even though we said we would squeeze in at a smaller table since the infant could sit on my lap and the child could sit on his mom or dad's lap the staff seemed hesitant and kept seating other guests that were 4 or less people some of whom were sharing tables with couples they didn't know. It was frustrating and my friends who were familiar with the restaurant said they had never seen it this busy before and it seemed like the staff didn't know how to handle an influx of people with regards to seating.

Delicious dumplings in a modern, contemporary yet traditional Chinese restaurant in Chicago's Chinatown. Great walk through the menu with the waiter as this was our first time here. He ask about our likes and made some great recommendations so much so that we ordered repeats! Specializes in a variety of fresh- made dumplings with other menu selections as well but the dumplings are a MUST. Dumpling makers working behind the glass window at the back of the restaurant were fascinating. Great first time experience. Will back back for more.

The place was packed with a long waiting list when we came. We put our name down and were able to walk around the nearby shops. The soup dumplings were good and there are a good variety of filling choices. The atmosphere is okay but our aisle was tight. Menu prices are on the higher side and they charge by the pot for tea. Overall a good experience.

This place is awesome. The 2 of us knocked out 3 dozen dumplings, some steamed, some fried. Our favorite was the shrimp, pork, and leeks.

The waitress knew the Chinese culture well enough to serve me hot water instead of ice wate,I was really impressed by that As for the dumplings ,tasty and juicy but the each dumpling’s size seemed a bit smaller compared to those I ate in Taiwan or China

Whenever I’m in Chicago, Qing Xiang Yuan is a non-negotiable stop. I’ve tried plenty of dumpling houses over the years, especially those specializing in Xiao Long Bao, and QXY still stands as the best overall dumpling experience I’ve found. The consistency in quality, presentation, service, and value keeps it firmly at the top of my list. The space is modern, clean, and inviting, with a clear view of the dumpling prep area that adds an extra layer of appreciation for the craft. Every dumpling arrives perfectly formed, flavorful, and delicately cooked, whether steamed, pan-fried, or boiled. Service is always warm and efficient, and the menu is wide enough to explore without feeling overwhelming. On this visit, I also discovered their pre-prepped frozen dumplings, which are tempting to stock up on when I’m not in town. That said, there’s something undeniably satisfying about sitting down here and enjoying their dumplings fresh—no effort, no hassle, just pure deliciousness. If you love dumplings, put Qing Xiang Yuan at the top of your Chicago list. It never disappoints.

Dumplings were awesome. The veggie ones rocked. Clean, efficient, and delicious. Plan ahead. BYOB. Can’t wait to come back.

For those of you whom are not aware, Chicago has a serious Chinatown. There are too many options, yet they are all bustling busy. This little place has very very great dumplings served hot and QUICK. Servers use Ipads to take your ordered table side, the inof is blasted back to the production area, faster than fast. By the time she left the table, the seaweed salad and brined cucumbers where at the table. We had pan fried Lamb Coriander, Steamed Crab, Boiled Beef Leek and Shrimp- Pork. Crazy good food folks, made to order. There are kabobs and an array of other delicious items. BYOB

Pro tip: Park in the newer Chinatown parking lot (the restaurant is directly in front of the lot) after the meal ask for the parking discount coupon so your parking is $2 instead of $10 w/o the discount. The place is very nice, much better than the typical chinatown restaurant, the dumplings are good, but not great. To be honest I can't tell the difference between the chicken or the pork dumpling, they looked and tasted the same to everyone in our group. For the quality and quantity of the food, I didn't think it was worth the premium pricing. Don't think I'll go back again, there are better and cheaper places in Chinatown.

It was wonderful. We tried three different kinds of dumplings. Lamb/dill, chicken/coriander and beef/onion. We had some pan fried and steamed. All were amazing....we could have kept eating them. The pan fried were the best however. Service was very attentive and helpful. Can’t wait to come back.

Dumplings, pork and mushroom, were tasty but a little soggy. Cucumber salad was refreshing and lightly spiced. Service was fast. Interior a bit cramped but scrupulously clean. Conveniently near the CTA and a few minutes walk from the water taxi.

Our family of 7 divided to stop in and we were not disappointed. We made reservations which. I recommend. We had the lamb and coriander , beef and onion, chicken wings, lamb skewers. All of this was delicious. Nikki was our server and was so helpful. Great job!!! Everything was great. Price was good. Note: special was.beef and truffle which her 30$. I didn’t even think to ask how much i just said sure. Lol they were good.

We came in for early dinner, there was only another party there, so we were seated immediately. The waitress took our order when we were ready, the food came out very quickly. The lamb kebab was good for me, but a little bit spicy for my husband. The beef onion dumplings tasted very good, but nearly every dumpling was stuck to the surface of the container, and there was no way to pick one up without breaking the skin. The pork and pickled cabage dumplings was OK. The shrimp dumplings was our least favorite. There were soy sauce, vinegar and chili oil on the table to make your own dipping sauce. It was the challenge part for my family, my daughter made the sauce too spicy to eat, I made the sauce too sour. I wish they had pre mixed sauce to use, and customer could make a adjustment based on that. It was a good experience to try something new.

We went here after eating some dim sum at another restaurant in Chinatown. Wish we would have come here FIRST! Seriously the flavors were incredible. The texture of the dumplings - so tender. And the burst of yummy broth - SO GOOD. We didn't have room for much, so only tried basically one flavor - Beef and coriander and Lamb and coriander. You must like cilantro, because coriander is the seed of the cilantro plant...Service was impeccable, too. We tried a Sweet/Sour plum drink because it sounded interesting. I was not a fan, but my cigar smoking husband loved the smoky notes in this beverage. To each his own. Cannot wait to go for an entire dumpling meal!

Excellent place to eat dumplings in Chinatown, the food was great, a wide variety of dumplings, the place was beautiful and the personnel very friendly and helpful. We will come back for sure.

This was my third visit, and it seems like each time I go I discover a new dumpling to add to my growing "life list." We had four people at the table and were warmly welcomed and had very fast service. We ordered several different types of dumplings, plus one of our group wanted some sides of vegetables, which were zucchini spears and a seaweed dish. Biting into the dumplings, the juice squirts out. For my taste, they are perfect as is, but the others used the accompanying sauces. The restaurant is so attractive, spotlessly clean, and employs young Asians as the servers, who are so anxious to please. After we placed our orders, the steamer baskets quickly occupied our table, and we pounced on them like starving animals. Each dumpling had subtle flavors.....especially loved the zucchini/mushroom, beef/dill, pork/cabbage, but each one offered a different, exciting experience. In a sense, one has to love delicate, light food to be a devotee of their dumplings. If you want a heavy, thick-dough greasy dumpling, don't go here. If you want to feel like you just arrived in heaven and the dumplings are floating off your plate, go to Qing Xiang Yuan. It will be the start of a romantic relationship with this beautiful little restaurant.

Wonderful dumplings. We had the crab dumplings and they were delicious! The only negative was that there was no sampler and when we ordered the dumplings, the order was always 12 dumplings so it was alot per order which kept us from ordering more types of dumplings. Also, there was no Iced Tea and it was 95 degrees out. I would definitely suggest this place. Great food, great service!

Great dumplings! You have to wait about 20 minutes for your food but it is worth it. They do not sell alcohol, you have to bring your own bottle Great experience. I shall return...

Dropped in for lunch and despite being very busy we managed to get a table for 4. Ordered a couple of dumplings and additional skewers. All very good.

Lovely but small space, fantastic viewing of dumplings being made, and delicious dumplings! The wait staff were very helpful in guiding us as to what to order. We thoroughly enjoyed this treat. To top it off - a deluge of rain began just as we were ready to leave and the owner (?) manager(?) kindly GAVE us a beautiful umbrella. I offered to bring it back later and he gestured no, keep it. So kind and very much appreciated. If we ever make it back to Chicago we will definitely stop here again!

A trendy and cozy place serves handmade to order, juicy and flavourful dumplings and they come in steamed, boiled or pan-fried to best suit your preferences. Give it a try if you're in Chinatown area, you won't regret!

So we went here with a large group, and I do give them bonus points for accommodating us. The place is pretty small. The dumplings were just OK in my opinion. The dumpling wrappers were excellent, but these are not true soup dumplings, they are dumplings that can get a little soupy. It was very cool to see the ladies making the dumplings, but you can't get a good picture because of the glass. Some of the fillings, like the vegetable filling, are just plain weird. The pork and beef fillings are definitely your best bet. The chairs are very uncomfortable, and don't match up well to the tables. In my opinion the furniture absolutely needs a re-do. The menu, which is on electronic tablets is very confusing. They CHARGE $5 FOR A POT OF TEA!!!! I found this very offensive. I mean I am spending mucho bucks on your dumplings and you're charging me big time for some stupid tea???? anyhow, If my group wanted to go here I'd go, but I would never be the one to suggest going here- there are so many better places to go.

The dumplings were just ok. The servers were friendly. BUT… beware of pricing for all things other than the dumplings. The hot tea which is usually served free at most Chinese restaurants is priced at $12.00. That’s for a tiny teapot of very weak jasmine tea. And a small plate of side dish kimchi, which again is usually free at other places, is priced at $7.99 for a tiny plate. AND… they DON’T validate parking. We were really excited to try this place as we are at Chinatown often and have tried many of the places here, so we were VERY disappointed. :(

Out of all the restaurants that my family visited on our recent trip to Chicago, (even topping Chicago style pizza and Chicago style hot dogs) this was my favorite! It’s a very short walk from the red line train. I liked that there was a good mix of people, both tourists and local Chinese. It was quite busy but we were seated within five minutes. Our food arrived quickly and they brought one dish at a time so that as we were enjoying one type of dumpling the next one arrived and we were excited to try it too. My kids’ favorite was the pork and cabbage, my wife’s favorite was the scallop and lotus flower, while my favorite was the lamb and dill.

A friend recommended this place as the best dumplings in Chicago, so we were eager to try it. To avoid waiting we booked a table and were there when they opened on a weekday. You can see the dumplings being made by hand in the back while you wait. The menu is very extensive. Three dumpling orders of 12 was a good amount for 2 people for lunch. (They also come in groups of 18 vs. 12) We had pork and cabbage, beef and onion, and lamb and coriander. All were fantastic with incredible broth and flavor. Great chili oil on the table as well. Our waiter wasn't very helpful with recommendations but service was fast. The tables are at a weird height, there are no napkins, and splashing on your shirt is kind of inevitable so bring your own napkin and wear an old shirt. Definately 100 percent worth visiting, I would love to go back - great flavors. There is no dessert but you can walk in nearby Chinatown to find something after the meal if you like.

I would definitely not recommend this place. Now keep in mind that I am comparing these dumplings to my mom's homemade dumplings. I realize that's not a fair comparison, but for the price you are paying, I'd expect them to be just as good. But they aren't. The wrappers are thin and taste like they are store bought mass produced although they insist they make them right there in the kitchen. In addition, they are fairly small. I cannot justify paying basically $2 per dumpling once you add in tip and tax for something that tastes as good as the frozen dumplings I get from the Chinese grocery store. Also, I hope you know how to use chopsticks because they do not have any forks or knives here. As a side note, when you look for a good place to eat in Chinatown, you find a place where there are mostly Chinese people dining there. This restaurant had a majority of non-Chinese people if that gives you any indication...

Simply delicious! Highly recommend ordering one order of each kind of dumpling (boiled, steemed, and pan fried--yes, you can eat 3 dozen dumplings if you believe in yourself!). We also ordered lamb skewers. The seasoning blend on the skewers was unlike any I've ever tired and wish we would have ordered more.

If you are travelling with a hungry family and are on a budget, avoid this overpriced restaurant. Initially my family was very excited about trying something new as we are from a small town and do not have a restaurant of this type in our area. We reviewed the menu online and were a little apprehensive about trying something so different but decided that the staff at the restaurant would probably help us through the ordering process. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were led to our table right away and given waters. We were told to scan the QR code to access the menu. We told the waiter that we needed help ordering because we had never been to the restaurant. We asked him to make a recommendation. We aren’t sure if he didn’t speak English or just did not care because he again said that we could check the menu on the QR code but really said nothing further. We ordered an appetizer, the lamb kabobs and 3 orders of dumplings. The picture of the kabobs is very deceiving. A quarter or a ruler should also be included in the picture next to the kabobs to give people the real size of the portion. It was a perfect appetizer for a mouse…not for a hungry family of 4. After we received our food, we asked for silverware because we do not know how to use chopsticks…none were ever delivered. We tried getting the waiters attention several times, but he was no where to be found. We ended up using our fingers and awkwardly stabbing at the dumplings with our chopstick in attempts to skewer them. Our water glasses remained dry as they were never refilled. The final blow was receiving the bill. Over $100 for basically appetizer-sized portions?! Good thing Chi Chinese was right around the corner so we could have an actual meal. Avoid this overpriced place if you are hungry for an actual meal. You will not find it here.

A great place for dim sum! There is a large variety to choose from, beef, chicken, seafood, lamb - available either boiled or fried - and made to order. Minimum order is 12 dumplings, which may seem like quite a bit. But they are so delicious, 12 per person is reasonable amount to start with. You may want more! The staff made great recommendations. The decor is clean and bright, although the chairs are slightly uncomfortable

Steamed lamb with dill amazing, and also the mackerel with coriander and pork with cabbage. Also excellent pickled cucumbers. A new waitress, but charming--slight confusion on one item, but the food came fast. Worth a trip.

Very interesting comprehensive dumping selection...made uto perfection. Service was excellent and price reasonably well

Clean, modern decor with Asian influence, and a window where you can see the dumplings being made by hand in the kitchen. The service was fast and friendly and the food was fantastic! We had the chicken w/mushrooms, beef w/onion, and pork w/cabbage dumplings. They were all wonderful! A definite new MUST visit every time we’re in Chicago!

Is that even possible for dumplings and boujee to be in the same sentence. Well this location is a boujee dumpling restaurant. Not a hole in a wall but a place that classes it up a bit. The selection of dumplings are on point and vast. Just let the wait staff tell you if they should be steamed, boiled or pan fried. The price point may be higher than what would be expected but it is worth it. Lastly, their ghetto side comes out when you order frozen dumplings to go (in a ziplock bag.) keeping to the roots. WILL RETURN!!

The dumplings were everything I'd hoped for after moving back to the US from China. So good. Disappointed a lot of them would get stuck on the bamboo basket breaking the juices out before eating but they were still tasty. My disappointment and reason for 4 out of 5 was listening to the manager berate the staff in the middle of the dining room. Someone broke a soy sauce bottle on the floor and she didn't like the way the 2 staff handled it between themselves. Instead of taking it to the back or even afterwards, she decided to let loose on them right by our table. Completely inappropriate.

Went there with wife, and a friend. Saw a T.V. program telling how wonderful this place was. Wass all set to really enjoy this place. Went in and was given some sort of electronic tablet for a menu, which wasn't quit user friendly, plus was given only 2 tablets when there were three people. On their website, it showed options of 12 / 18 dumplings, and price. On the tablet no options, and no price. While trying to figure out the menu tablet we received water, like normal in any restaurant, my wife, and our friend requested a slice of lemon for their water, was told "We don't have any lemons." If there are no lemons, how do you get the lemony taste on some of the fish items you have on the website menu? Final straw was asking the waitress questions about the menu, or contents of different dumplings (Because of certain allergies) all we got as a response was " uh, ummm, not sure." Like I said in the beginning, we were all set to really enjoy this place, and make it a regular spot. Sorry to give this type of review, but never ordered any food, so I can't tell you anything about pricing, or what to recommend.

How can you beat fresh steamy dumplings for lunch on a cold day? We loved the traditional pork and cabbage dumplings, but the leek, egg and shrimp dumplings were our favorite. We were so happy to be able to order traditional Chinese side dishes like boiled peanuts with cabbage and kelp salad. The tea served is of good quality also.

My mom’s side of the family is from an area of China that eats dumplings and flour based foods on a weekly basis. With that being said, I am pretty familiar with dumplings. The pork/leeks and chicken/mushroom dumplings were very good boiled and pan fried.

Although the menu is limited -- if you don't like dumplings (or must be gluten free) this is probably not going to be a good choice - the quality of the dumplings is phenomenal. They have a huge selection of dumplings, steamed, boiled, or fried, and they come 12 or 18 to an order (so this is great for a group of people, but even a couple can get enough variety), along with some excellent side or small dishes (lamb skewers are fabulous, tree ear salad is terrific too as is cucumber salad). Dumplings with lamb, beef, chicken, and seafood, all with combinations of vegetables included in the dumplings. The wrappings are delicate and light, the flavors perfectly balanced. Service when we were there (a group of 7) was a bit sloppy - one order was forgotten, then made up - but friendly and helpful. If you like dumplings, there is no better option. And the prices are very reasonable.

Delicious and delicate dumplings many different flavors. Many different textures lovely tastes and Jason, our server, was fantastic made great recommendations. We can't wait to go back!

Great dumplings!!! We'll certainly go again while we're here. You can't make a reservation and it's all via waiting list, but it's relatively fast. I wouldn't order the shrimp again, though. Not because they are not good, but white tedious is to peel them

This is a delightful, aesthetically pleasing place to get a reality break from the hustle and bustle of Chinatown. The casual setting is pleasant and the iPad based service unique. The dumplings themselves are light and scrumptious morsels whether steamed or fried. There are some unique choices alongside some basic options. We chose a dozen beef and onion and a dozen pork and pickled cabbage for a midday break. They come in portions of either twelve or eighteen. Delicious! The tea options are lovely too.

I kept hearing from all of my friends that this is the place to go for good dumplings/soup dumplings and they were not wrong! Absolutely loved the chicken/mushroom steamed. This was my first and absolutely not my last time at this place. Tasted like authentic dumplings - some of which I had when I was traveling in China.

I love trying dumpling places when I visit different cities. A quick google search had this place higgly rated, so our group of three went. We reserved a table electronically ahead of time, so it was nice to get in and be seated right away. It tv was very busy when we went (Saturday afternoon). We ordered the clam and pork, shrimp and pork and leek, along with lamb and coriander dumplings. My favorite was the lamb ones!! They kept that gamey flavor in and it was so delicious! The prices were very reasonable and the portions appropriate. I will definitely go back next time I am in Chicago for some of their other flavors!!

Dumplings for your hearts content. Menu is an iPad and they are ready to help you select what is great. Fast service

We both LOVED this place. Dumplings unlike any other we have had in our travels. The Lamb Kebabs are so amazing. I could not get enough of them. The flavor is to die for. All of the dumplings we tried from the lamb to the beef, to the truffle. We’re out of this world. My partner is Asian and even he was raving about them as being better than his mom’s. We will for sure be back here the next time we visit Chicago. And the Asian markets it is attached to are fun as well.

We went here for a dinner. There was a little waiting time, but we got a table rather quickly. The place is well organised, very efficient. A bit like a conveyor-belt: you get fed, you get out. Dumplings were good though.

We came to Quing Xiang Yuan prompted by the local restaurant review show on CLTV, "Chicago's Loudest", not expecting our lives to be changed forever. Although the menu is varied with offerings of barbeque kabobs and appetizers, the dumplings (steamed, fried or boiled) are the destination. If you don't try Qing Xiang Yuan, your life will be less delicious and more mundane - if you go there once, you will be compelled to return, and again - I dream about those light as they are flavorful pouches of heavenly bliss on earth. We came for lunch and there was no wait for a table. And, yes, the chairs are not at all comfortable...a minor price to pay for the Qing Xiang Yuan's life altering dumplings.

This gem was pleasing for a mom and her two sons (16 and 9). The lamb kebabs were deliciously flavorful and my kids had two different t types of dumplings each prepared differently (steamed and pan friend). The jasmine tea was also delightful.

It’s located in Chinatown. The place is “easy” but clean and friendly! I went there only once but the dumplings are delicious! The portions are huge and there are many different kind of dumplings (lamb and coriander, shrimps, pork and pickled cabbage). My friends and I had a “dumplings blackout” we ate sooo many of them till we happily blacked-out!

We ordered steamed pork and mushroom, fried beef and onion, and fried chicken and mushroom dumplings. All were amazing. All dumplings are prepared as soup dumplings, with the most delicate casing I’ve had in a soup dumpling. Even those they fry retain the soup in them, which is really stunning considering how delicate the casings are. We’ve eaten soup dumplings in New York, San Francisco, Atlanta, etc. I would rate these as some of the best we’ve had. Well worth the trip to Chinatown from downtown!

Everything was excellent about our experience. We were warmly and professionally welcomed, informed about our expected wait time and invited to register at the kiosk for a text message when our table is ready. We were seated promptly and served the most perfect dumplings. The team working here is very impressive. Super efficient in a very comfortable way. Restaurant consultants probably have terms to describe what I trying to convey here. Quiet excellence is the best I can do.

This bustling little place turns out some mighty fine dumplings. If I lived in Chicago, I'd be here every week so I could try each and every kind. If you love dumplings, you gotta go!

My husbands coworkers said this place has the best dumplings in town. We were not disappointed. Be aware its BYOB. Worth a visit!

We went to this Chinatown restaurant because it had good reviews and we fancied Dim-Sum to eat. It's a good idea. Dumplings very good, you can even see how they do, nice local, good service and right price. Recommended. It is located just in front of the metro stop.

Another great recommendation a Dumplings place, really good and something different, I only wish that they had mixed dumplings samplers on the menu, you have to order 12 of each therefore if you are just 2 of you, you cannot try many different ones, ok if you are a larger group. I would add to the menu a couple of different samplers options. @qxydumplings . . . . #qxydumplings #dumplings #chicago #chicagofoodie #foodies #naddiasfavorites #naddias_favorites

We were in the mood for dumplings and went here for take out since it’s the middle of a pandemic. Good dumplings delivered in super fancy take-out packaging. The 18 dumplings came in a large rectangular gift box, each in its own mold, perfect for a dose of soy dipping sauce. No need to worry about spillage and getting your clothes or car soiled. Dough was good, filling was good. A bit more expensive than typical dumplings though. We ordered the pork and cabbage, pork and leeks, pork shrimp and leeks dumplings steamed. We also ordered the lamb and carrots pan fried. All were good but I personally preferred the pork shrimp and leeks dumplings more. Would recommend to anyone in the mood for dumplings.

We had a wonderful lunch at Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings! It was easy to make a reservation through Yelp - just make sure.all of your party is there to be seated. The atmosphere was lively and pleasant, and the service was excellent. We tried the a pot of tea, the lamb skewers, and three types of dumplings: Lamb and coriander steamed Beef and onion fried Pork and pickled cabbage boiled Everything was delicious and I would definitely recommend trying dumplings done multiple ways. I would recommend at least one order of dumplings per person. We will definitely be back! It was easy to find street parking nearby, and we absolutely loved everything we tried.

Went for lunch on a Sunday, it was moderately busy and had to wait a few minutes for a table. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The waiter provided suggestions on how certain dumplings are best served (steamed vs boiled). We had the shrimp/pork/leek, the pork/cabbage, and the lamb/coriander. Each type held a delicious pocket of soup within the wrap. The lamb/coriander was the favourite of the three with the coriander adding some welcome added flavour. Prices were fair (about 10$ for 16 dumplings).

Buzzing Place with fast service on the dumplings. They were perfect stems filled with the liquid broth. We had 2 types of the Wagyu Beef dumplings. Always comfort food. Fast, tasty, and wanting more!

My boyfriend and I stopped in for a quick bite, as we had never been to the China town area before. There were roughly 10 customers in the restaurant but it was a very somber/quiet environment , which isn't the typical vibe I shoot for but that's okay. Our server fit the vibe of the restaurant, he was less than thrilled to be there, almost an uncomfortable interaction... nevertheless we ordered the pork and coriander dumplings which were terrific. Hands down best dumplings I've ever had. We will be back for the dumplings for sure.

This dumpling restaurant is modern, clean and spacious, in Chinatown just opposite the Red L line stop. We went early and got a table straight away. The dumplings are first class, fresh and tasty. There was a queue out the door by 7pm. I would recommend

The story of this place is great, but putting that aside the dumplings here are great. Always go with the staffs recommendation of how the dumplings you order are prepared. The choices are vast, try to venture out of your comfort zone on the ingredients and you will be surprised. Besides the dumplings, try the kabobs especially the lamb. Not only is tender the herbs used are balanced

This place is hard to find in Chinatown, but you'll be glad you searched. Many dumpling varieties. Pork, beef, shrimp, fish. Your order comes with 12 or 18 dumplings. They have other asian dishes

Not your typical Americanized China buffet. The restaurant is uber-modern and authentic. Relatively small dining room with constant stream of unfruitful customers, so be prepared to wait 20-30 min or more. Once seated, you are given a tablet with menu, which has some appetizers and a LOT of different dumplings. The portion is a dozen or 18 dumplings. The waiters can help to make choices depending on your taste and they are very helpful and efficient. Everything that we tried was very good, lamb with coriander in particular. The prices are fair ($35 for with tips). Definitely coming back and more than once.

Where here for a lunch but wasn’t that impressed as all the reviews. The dumplings were good but I’ve had better elsewhere. The service was quick and correct.
Good varieties handmade dumplings, but not great
First time trying this place. Maybe we had such great expectation, we're a bit disappointed. The handmade dumplings were good, but not as great as claimed. We ordered 4 different ones - 2 broiled and 2 steamed as recommended by the wait staff - shrimp, port & leek, pork & pickled Chinese cabbage, lamb & coriander, beef & onion. The dumplings were juicy and tasted good. But the wrapping on tip of the dumplings were dry and hard for both steamed orders. That was a big disappointment. First time having dumplings with pickled Chinese cabbage (which I like a lot) and that's a refreshing combination. I like that. $8 for a pot of white tea was a bit pricey, especially when they put so few tea leafs in it. We like white tea for it's subtle flavor, but not when it tastes like plain hot water. We also ordered celery and peanuts ($5 appetiser). It's ok. Nice decorations. Beautiful serving sets & napkins. Nice looking Chinese style tables and chairs, but the 2-seater chairs are not comfortable.
