Modern vibe, delicious food. Recommended by our chauffeur.

By Sleeper22 |

Kevin was our waiter. Sooo good. So service was great. Food was delicious, Al dente. and I’m a noodle snob. Atmosphere was modern. Had Mama De Pandi’s Bucatini. Delish! Meals are small enough to enjoy space for side and a dessert so I ordered brussel sprouts and vanilla gelato. So fabulous. Will be back next time in town.

Needs A Michelin Star

By Jay77019 |

Our server, Adrian, was amazing. We were in town celebrating a birthday and RPM was beyond incredible. Adrian recommended the $72 Alba White Truffle Risotto which was one of the best things we've ever tasted. We shared it as one of our appetizers and we all wanted more. Courses and drinks plus dessert, you can't go wrong. The filet mignon was perfectly medium rare. Shredded brussel sprout and avocado salad was original and very tasty. Everyone needs the Bomboloni to share. I could easily see this restaurant earning Michelin status. Bravo!

Spicy pomodoro!

By JJPed |

We had dinner there last night; it is a beautiful restaurant and our server was very good. We started with the fresh ricotta and grilled ciabiatta which was very good. My husband very much enjoyed his chicken parmesan. I ordered the spaghetti and meatball; the meatball was excellent, but the sauce was very spicy (and usually I don't mind spice)...same with the sauce on the buccatini. At the end of dinner I mentioned to the server that the pomodoro was very spicy, she did say they add crushed pepper...I said that I usually think of pomodoro as a simple tomato sauce (at our local Italian place they distinguish their spicy sauces by calling them Arrabbiata.) She told me that she wished that I had said something earlier and she would have brought me something different. The quality of the food was excellent, the little gelato cones compliments of the house at the end were delicious. I only write this review to let others know about the spice level so you aren't caught off guard; none of the reviews I read prior to mentioned this. If we were in Chicago again I would definitely return, I would just choose something different.

Lovely treat

By shalbshah |

The service was outstanding, and the food was unique and different. Only negative feedback was my carbonera dish was salty and under cooked. However we really enjoyed the place and would come back!

still terrific food and atmosphere for fine dining

By bluelindy4 |

made a reservation for 10pm and it was still busy on a Thursday night. alot of millienials frequent this place. The food was excellent and the service was good.I was disappointed that bread or breadsticks were not offered up but instead were on the menu to order. i ordered the swordfish which was terrific but not even a few pieces of greens to add to the dish of 28 dollars. I know it's fine dining but that is too cheap not to put out a little antipasto or bread.

Amazing

By arleneacqua |

We loved it so much that we went a second night for dinner. Very cool and chic. The food was outstanding with an excellent menu. Service was on point. Can’t wait to go back. We need one in NYC.

New Year's Day

By AJS1295 |

We went for dinner on New Year's Day. Crispy brussel sprouts and Bomboloni with Nutella are a must. Food was good. Service was excellent, very attentive. I would recommend if you are in the area.

Very good Italian food

By Umesh J |

Very good food, but also pretty pricey. I had Cacio Pepe my coworker had the Chicken Parm and we were both very pleased with our meals. The Cacio Pepe was a pretty small portion but his Chicken Parm seemed huge! He also got a gin and tonic and said it was the best on he’s had. Excellent service and upscale ambiance (though maybe lacking character). I’m giving it 4 stars for because for the price, the value isn’t quite there in my opinion. Definitely a good, safe choice if you want Italian.

Avoid.

By Henry S |

The establishment is modern, less than welcoming but trendy and fun. The food is excellent and the wine list extensive. The service quality is below even average and at this price point, is insulting. The service was very “grabby” and not professional. Timing of delivery of food was of particular concern, as was attention to any specific request. Management seemed unaware. Travis, assigned server, is not to be blamed. The sommelier was particularly unpalatable. Bussers and service staff were generally attentive but unable to provide even the most basic of requirements: entree took 40 min after antipasti, no dessert with coffee, wine was not poured with the meal, etc.

Great Food

We were celebrating a birthday as a family and the experience was amazing. The kids were even impressed with their choices and are already planning their next trip. The service was exceptional as well.

Better bar than restaurant

By Pedro666 |

Went with a friend and his extended family for a Saturday night. It was a-hoppin, with continual action at the bar and tables continually filled with dinners. Mostly 20- and 30-somethings. Perhaps a place to be seen? I wouldn't know; it's been a long time since anyone wanted to see me. My friend's mother was impressed with the bartender's skills making a proper Wisconsin Old Fashioned (not a drink that the younger crowd would go for). You can get dinner at the bar, which one man was doing. We were seated for dinner, and decided to order some appetizers, a pasta dish each and a couple of fish to share. The food was a mixed bag. The appetizers were so good, I forgot what we had. The two fish we shared (Atlantic Swordfish and Faroe Island Salmon) were both very good and recommended. I had the Carbonara for my pasta dish. It was OK, nothing spectacular. If I were to go back it would be for the fish, or getting a drink at the bar.

Awesome

We like in Chicago and have many options to chose from but RPM Italian is one of our favorites. We had a friend in from out of town and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening . Great service and a menu that will satisfy all. I had the grilled octopus which was excellent followed by the bucatini . Great evening at RPM

Delivery is terrific - generous servings - arrives hot!

By Jewelsworld |

Delivery from RPM was excellent. The generous servings arrived piping hot. We ordered the Short Rib Bolognese which was delicious with melt in your mouth beef. We could have gotten along with just one order because the serving was huge! We were able to get an entire second meal out of this order. There was a side of garlic bread with fresh garlic chunks but toasted bread rarely survives more than a few minutes out of the roasting pan so arrived a bit chewy but not unexpected. We will definitely order from RPM Italian again.

Excellent overall!!

By FernandoMexico8 |

Food, ambience and service are top notch @ RPM Italian in Chicago. Wine list is extensive, full of excellent choices. I recommend the Prosciutto San Daniele, the Burratta, the home made fresh pasta, and the Tiramisu. For wine, the Grattamacco Bolgheri super Tuscan is an excellent choice.

Delicious Post Marathon Meal

By Craig J |

Ate here with my family after the Chicago Marathon. Was perfect. The small plates of pasta were perfect to get a variety and all were delicious. We ordered 4 or 5 different plates, a chicken Parm and some vegetables and it was great for a family of 5

Just like the portion size won't "overwhelm you", I wasn't overwhelmed by the quality, ambiance of this restaurant.

By lcjn12 |

Arrived on time for our reservation and they wanted to sit us at the worst spot in the restaurant. Two chairs are actually in the entry way aisle and should you sit there you would be bumped all the time by patrons entering/leaving. In addition, you would constantly get the cold air rushing in from the doors. We politely asked to be sat elsewhere and we got the 2nd worst spot, right in front of the kitchen entrance. Service that night was very good. I did ask our server what we should order that are hits on the menu. We ordered multiple appetizers (focaccia, fried olives and stuffed peppers) and 4 different entrees (Bolognese, cavatelli, carbonara and lobster ravioli). They spin the very small portion size as "the size of the inner circle of your plate so it won't overwhelm you ". Several of our pasta dishes were heavy on oregano. Unfortunately we didn't think there was even one stand out dish.

UPDATE: MY PERSONAL FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN THE US - STILL THE BEST!!!!

By bobscag |

I have been to RPM Italian many times. In fact, I never go to Chicago without eating at RPM Italian at least once during my visit. I have never been disappointed and have always thoroughly enjoyed every meal at RPM Italian. Of most importance to me, the food and the service has remained at an extremely high level over the years. Based on the consistency of the food, the service, the fabulous wine list (and the extremely helpful and knowledgeable Sommeliers), and the ambiance, I am renewing my rarely given 5-star status for RPM Italian. On this visit I have to give well deserved recognition to our waiter, Jackie, who somehow managed to top the experience I always have at RPM Italian. Somm Dan also helped pick out an absolutely exquisite and voluptuous bottle of 2013 Viviani Amarone which helped make for an all around perfect meal and perfect evening. My review title sums up how I feel about RPM: MY PERSONAL FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN THE US- STILL THE BEST!!!!

Perfect Restaurant

By markbkeller |

Our server was amazing and helped make this a great meal. We were not sure what we wanted as everything on the menu sounded wonderful. The interior is lovely. We had the rib eye which was cut to share along with amazing risotto and grilled brussel sprouts. In addition we had a great wedge salad split. The drinks were 1st class and perfect.

Excellent Food and Service

By jerrygroen |

After attending The Christmas Carol matinee at the Goodman, we wanted to go to a good Italian restaurant. I asked Tripadvisor for a suggestion that was in walking range and we picked this one. The food and service were excellent.

Still solid

By Deborah M |

Returned after a very memorable meal 2 years ago - didn’t disappoint. Chic upscale vibe, with high end Italian menu but casually-dressed diners. Great, varied menu with some amazing highlights such as the corn agnolotti with summer truffles and Brussels sprouts salad. If I lived in Chicago, I’d be a regular, but will definitely make it a must when never in Chicago.

Excellent Food and Service

By Anne L |

RPM was suggested to us by friends. We had a great dinner and will definitely return the next time we visit Chicago. Our server recommended sharing several dishes. We began with the rosemary focaccia followed by a special salad of watermelon and tomato which was delicious. We shared the Pasta Carbonara and the Short rib Bolognese. Hats off to the excellent server and staff.

Amazing Italian

By Andy |

This place is amazing. The ambience is great. The service is too notch. Jackie is a great server. She is very knowledgeable about the menu and her suggestions were great. The food was delicious. We had the gluten free pasta which was fantastic. Will definitely come back.

Very Cool!

By Chili |

This is one of the coolest places in Chicago for food and drink. The bar is amazing and offers great people watching!

One of our favorites in Chicago

By Tiffany P |

We've been in Chicago for business a lot lately and this has become one of our favorites. Getting a table can be a challenge but it's well worth it. It can be a little loud and crowded but it's always worth it. We love the vibe, the cocktails, the shareable plates and the service. Highly recommend.

Best steak in Chicago

By BobbyG1977 |

Excellent ambiance, great food, and fantastic service. Went here on a date night with my wife. Truffle garlic bread is a must-have for appetizer. Filet mignon was one of the best I’ve ever had and was cooked perfectly. Most people were fairly dressed up. While you can wear nicer jeans here I wouldn’t unless you have a nice sport coat to complement it. Or just don’t wear jeans to a place like this. We’ll be back.

Good food. Great ambiance.

Good food. Great ambiance. I was here for a team dinner in a private room, the boardroom, with a preset menu. EEEeEverything that was served from the wine to the a

Trendy, upscale Italian

By bstillitano |

Appetizer of meatballs were plentiful and delicious. I had gf chicken parmigiana- HUGE potion can be shared. Hubby had spicy king clan pasta which was excellent but be warned, the title is correct, it is spiced deliciously. Skip dessert however, was not impressed. Our waiter, Matty was attentive and personable. Highly recommend.

Great ambiance and hospitality

By Kapil C |

Great ambiance and hospitality, especially like sitting at the tables in the bar area and the restaurant week menu was delicious. Highly recommend for private parties/group dining too, the spaces are amazing and Jenny and her team are fantastic to work with! Awesome service by: Elizabeth (host) and Fallyn J (server) Favorite dishes: Gnocchi, swordfish, tuna bruschetta, Bill’s chocolate budino, old fashioned and chocolate torta

Great Italian food

By DJ3636 |

Several of our friends had recommended this restaurant and after eating there it was no surprise. We had a party of eight and everyone enjoyed the appetizers as well as multiple dishes which we shared. Extensive wine list and great desserts as well.

Insanely Good!!!

By Hotelie21 |

After a long day of meetings was recommended to try RPM Italian and I almost wrote my review before even getting my entree!! The meatball appetizer is INSANE!!! perfect blend of sweet and savory, and I had to keep myself from saving room for my entree. I had the Chicken Parmigiana and I have never eaten a version so perfectly done. Simple and light and delicious. Not to mention the service is 5 Star. It is 100% worth every cent!

Italian

Great food and terrific service. The pasta and tomato sauce was fantastic! Will definitely make a return trip.

10/10 Recommend RPM Italian!

By Lauren W |

I went to RPM Italian for the first time last night, and had a wonderful experience! The staff were all very welcoming, engaged, and polite. They even went out their way to accommodate my party, which I greatly appreciated. It was a wonderful atmosphere, it gave off a very high end, lovely vibe. For food we ordered Carbonara, Mama DePandi's Bucatini, Prime Beef Meatballs, & Rigatoni Alla Vodka. All of the food was exceptional, the house made pasta was fresh. We drank espresso martinis that were delicious. Our waiter was very knowledge of the menu and was very helpful. I cannot wait to go back!

Birthday dinner

By Livewire2014 |

Went for daughters birthday Least favorite of RPM restaurants Just not as nice as other two Food was just ok Two entrees came luke warm Will say paste and sauce were very good Won’t be hurrying back

Update to my original review

By Jonny K |

Update to original review: That said, once we were seated the manager came over to apologise which was appreciated. And the rest of the evening was wonderful! Our waiter was superb and made a couple of suggestions which we chose - the chicken Parmesan and red shrimp radiatore with fettuccine. And for dessert he recommended Bill's chocolate Budino. It really was one of the most delicious meals I have ever had the good fortune to experience and to cap it off we weren’t charged for a few of the items which we ate. It’s not cheap but worth every penny! Absolutely recommend this restaurant Jonathan Kustow, London

It was okay

By Aloha-Traveler-Guy |

I love marinara sauce and order spaghetti with meatball. The spaghetti noodles were good and so was the meatballs. However the sauce was too sweet for me.

Good Italian restaurant

By Kelly Stones |

One of our favourite places of all the restaurants in Chicago. Service was quick and good. Food is good in terms of quality/price.

Very Impressed

By Tiffanie B |

This was my first time having Rpm and I was extremely impressed by the great taste of the food. I ordered through Doordash and it arrived in less than an hour to my hotel. It was worth every single dollar. I ordered the spaghetti and meatball, truffle garlic bread, and the hazelnut tartufo. The pasta is house made deliciously along with the sauce which is a little spicy. The spicy taste was perfect and the meatball was wonderful. The truffle garlic bread was amazing and the ice cream was creamy and reminded me of the nestle crunch ice cream bar. Absolutely recommend this restaurant.

Excellent for a relaxed dinner

By German Otharan |

We loved it! Service was excellent, high-quality pasta and very good wine. I strongly recommend this place.

Not bad

By Gbaby A |

The drinks were definitely delicious. The food was about average. My husband had the chicken Parmesan and he liked it. I had the big meatball and spaghetti.

Noisy Italian Food

By MV Traveler |

A good restaurant with normal Italian food. Good choices. Fairly expensive. Quite noisy; enough that conversation can be difficult. One of a chain of similar restaurants in Chicago with variations. While good, not a standout restaurant. Responsive servers.

Have the Prosciutto service, YUMMY

By DREAMEN.FOOL |

Great atmosphere. Loud but not so loud you can’t carry on a conversation at a normal level. Service was a little slow but pleasant. Go for the prosciutto service, it was exceptional. Lobster ravioli was a little under cooked and not as hot as we would have liked. It’s very busy, reservations are probably a good idea.

Phenomenal Restaurant

By The Traveling Doctor |

This is a superb upscale restaurant that maintains its quality every time I go for dinner when visiting Chicago. Elyse, in management, was very attentive, accommodated very smoothly to pushing the time given our delay in arriving to Chicago. Nice touch on the menus “welcome to Chicago” as I let them know we are a group of friends visiting Chicago and celebrating our long time friendship. The food was amazing. We shared several appetizers, pizzas and pastas, all were delicious. The main course was wonderful as well. The veal was huge and really nicely marinated and cooked. Ambience was lovely, and our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive and very kind. Value is quite right for an upscale restaurant.

Awesome night out, dinner date

By Jessica R |

We were recommended RPM by a colleague that lives in Chicago as a place we should eat for one of the two evenings we had in the area. It did not disappoint. At the bar we were served by David and Angela, who were both super friendly and attentive. We are still talking about how good it was and what a nice time we had, two days later. My husband had the tartar, which he loved, and we shared the garlic bread, which was a large portion. For entree we split the gnocchi and the mushroom risotto, both of which tasted exactly like we've had in Italy; simple, flavorful, delicious. The cocktails, the food, the ambiance, it was all great. Coming from Atlanta, we did not think it was an expensive dinner at all. It was well worth the tab and appropriately priced for quality, ambiance, and portion. I highly recommend RPM.

Excellent Food, Beautiful People, too loud for oldsters

By Andrew R |

The food and ambience are superb and the wait staff attentive. But we were a party of five, four in our 80s and the special person a retired Marine Corps Sargent was 90. Owing to the background noise we had difficulty picking the appropriate items from menu. Once done we attempted to engage in conversation, which went fairly well except that the interchange was one on one, or one on two. I am not blaming the restaurant because we were the outlanders.

Did not Fail Us

By mom_of_a_creative |

We had heard this was an authentic Italian restaurant, and it did not fail us! From the salad to the main course, to our dessert ending, we loved it. Wine was perfect and the coffee with dessert was just right. Some say it is noisy, but we didn't feel this way. There were a few people celebrating, but they were not loud. Looking forward to returning!

Not worth it

By A H |

Getting a table was easy for high top. It was a bit dark in high top/bar area. Service was not great. Rigatoni was recommended and horrible (server did take it off bill) salads were the worst and truffle bread was VERY strong even for a truffle lover. Would never go again. Better Italian at Grand Lux. Save your $.

Very Impressive -- Outstanding

By drosen85 |

Let's start with the bad -- there was too much food! Well that's our fault. Large group and we simply ordered too much. Filled up on the outstanding apps and first courses, could barely make it through the exceptional mains. This is a wonderful restaurant a very special Chicago experience. Nothing but he very, very best of what Chicago has to offer. Impressive decor, exceptional service, best cuts of meat -- balanced with sides, starters and desserts. Really wonderful and memorable dining experience.

No more

By wijnvaatje2015 |

How can you read the menu in this dark ‘diskotheque’ with so much noise and no light? And a very dirty toilet…

Great dinner with work colleagues

By StephenCross |

RPM Itilian is a nice restaurant in the Downtown Chicago area. We managed to get a table for 7 without a booking which was appreciated. Food was excellent and steak excellent.

Racial profiling by management

By Ace B |

Here's my recent experience at RPM Italian September 26, 2020. I arrived in the front area between 2 patio areas for a $150 pick-up order which I curated to celebrate my anniversary. I asked a manager, Mike, for pick up area. As he saw me struggling to enter through a locked front area vestibule door, he instructed me that the area I should go is in the back, past outdoor dining customers in the last door at the end of the restaurant. I entered to find a kitchen, and quickly exited thinking I made a mistake. Again, walking past diners I was re-directed back to the kitchen by another staff member who saw me exit the kitchen. Once I entered and was well into their kitchen with dirty dishes, I was informed by one of the kind kitchen staff that I should have been allowed to enter through the front and that this was only for delivery drivers. My question is does RPM Italian assume all people are picking up orders for delivery (despite a robust online interface designed for patrons to walk in [through the front door])? Or does RPM Italian reserve these assumptions for the black patrons of color like myself? Sincerely, Diminished Patron

Excellent!

By Irishmom67 |

We had an amazing waiter for our Anniversary dinner this weekend! The food was excellent with great recommendations! For our anniversary we were spoiled with bubbly, appetizer bites and complimentary dessert which was fantastic! Highly recommend for a special event!

Fabulous Italian

By Stephany M |

We ate here when in town for the half marathon. Such a good meal. Perfect for carbing up with their fresh pasta. Chicken parm one of the best we ever had. Service was great. Dining room is very noisy and busy, not the place to go for anything romantic. But for a good meal yes. My only regret is I didn’t get the garlic bread. Seeing it walk past us to other tables gave me bread envy.

Great dinner with coworkers!

By Lauren L |

We had a great company team dinner here! We got a corner booth and loved taking in the atmosphere. The service was excellent, the vibe was great and our food was good. We started with the bread service and Brussels sprouts and everyone loved it. I had the carbonara and it was very good.

AVOID THIS PLACE!

By jlkslk85 |

Stood in line with 30 other people for 45 mins past our reservation. Seated at worst table in the place right by front door where everyone stood right by our table running into it. Didn’t even get drinks until an hour and 15 minutes past our reservation. The food was subpar. The music is loud making it difficult to talk to one another and the lighting is horrible. We will not recommend this restaurant to anyone and will never return.

spaghetti tasted like chef boy r d

By laduke09 |

Good service, bad spaghetti! Only 3 beer choices! no chicken marsala. good garlic. bread. bar area nice.

GREAT ITALIAN BUT LOUD MUSIC

By Rodrigo Coyado |

GREAT FOOD, OK PRICE THE PROBLEM IS VERY MODERN (LOUD MUSIC AND LOUD LIGHT ENVIRONMENT) BUT GOOD FOOD AND SERVICE

Birthday dinner

By Isunwin |

Service was great, I just didn’t care for the food. I prefer a fully cooked pasta, and bruschetta with real tomato’s and not a spread/roasted. That said, my friends thoroughly enjoyed the bluefin tuna, zucchini fritters, cacio e Pepe, pasta pancetta and filet minion. This restaurant is definitely busy with a vibrant bar. Music plays overhead which I found a bit distracting. Valet parking is $15 unless you have a truck (we did) which cost $25.

Crystal Paloma is a Must Order

By Davis R |

We had an exceptional meal right when the restaurant opened so we could make a concert at Solider Field later. The staff was exceptional from start to finish. The Ricotta Honey Bread was a fantastic starter. It can only be improved by also ordering their exceptional meatballs and combining the two into one amazing appetizer. The Prosciutto Torteloni is one of the best pastas I've had in a long time. We were blown away with the food from start to finish. The real star though is their Crystal Paloma. I'm not sure what kind of witchcraft or voodoo they use to make this cocktail but it is exceptional and a must try. We will absolutely be back.

Great place, but always the same issue

By Pioneer620464 |

We have 1 or 2 tradeshows annually in Chicago and every trip go to RPM as the vibe is excellent, the place is packed with a good looking crowd, and the food excellent. In the 10 times we have made a reservations over the years however, NEVER has the time been met, but typically 30 to 40 minutes after the reservation time. To put a little salt in the wound, there is no communication from the hostess stand on the reservation status. RPM's meatballs and sauce are to die for as well as the specials. If they have the veal parmigiana the night you are there, take advantage although the price is WAY too much at $56! Super place, just somewhat overpriced and I believe it is so popular there simply is not much of a concern about reservation times

Excellent meal

By Theresa P |

We went for lunch. Ordered the filet mignon, potato gnocchi,Mama dePandi’s pasta, spaghetti and meatball and chicken parm. The food was excellent. Best filet mignon and potato gnocchi I ever had. Service was a little slow but seemed like they were short staffed. The desserts were just okay in my opinion but my friend raved about rice pudding.

Amazing spot with super yummy gluten free options

By Bob Angry |

The girlfriend and I arrived a little early, but luckily they have a bar area to wait! The drinks are pricey but yummy. Soon our guest arrived and we were headed inside - tip, make a reservation - we had and were seated quickly once we were all there. Our server David was excellent and helped us understand the gluten safeness of the food. the food was amazing. Leave room for desert. The Tiramisu is wow factor.

Excellent gluten-free Italian

By AABerry |

Portions are small but everything here was great. My daughter and I split the pomodoro with gluten-free pasta and the gluten-free eggplant parmesan, and we shared the brussel sprouts with other family members. Everything was fabulous, but the eggplant parmesan is why I’ll go back. The others in our party got the carbonara, the bolognese, and the squash blossom antipasti, and they were very happy with all those as well. My daughter has also had the casio e pepe on a previous occasion; that’s actually her favorite. The service is excellent, the staff are friendly, and it’s a nice atmosphere. Also, there is street parking all around that area, so that’s a huge plus.

Fun atmosphere!

By Bobbie W |

The atmosphere was awesome with a lively flare. The drinks were pricey and not huge. The Italian salad was awesome which the kitchen split for us. It was plentiful and tasty. The pork chop was excellent. However, I got the eggplant which was just ok.

Amazing ambiance

By Onthego717 |

I am always skeptical of these hot spots that have 6283 people talking about it. Don’t be skeptical at all because RPM was one of the most amazing dinners I’ve had in Chicago. The drinks are expensive but hand crafted with good ingredients and the ambiance, Staff and price/value ranking high on my list. I can’t wait to go back for the bucatini

The meatballs!!

By LisaNBtravel |

I make a point to come to RPM Italian EVERY time I’m in Chicago. Twice per stay :) Service is always wonderful and the good it to die for. Especially the meatballs, bucatini and steak. Be sure to book well in advance because they are always jammed!

Simply Amazing

By Marcus Morin |

First off, make a reservation on OpenTable or call them directly as they are typically busy at all times of the week. RPM Italian is fantastic all around. I’ve been multiple times and haven’t had a dish that isn’t spectacular. I was here for my birthday and they made it extra special with a heads up from my wife. I definitely recommend trying this place!

A memorable and delicious anniversary dinner!

By dtstangl |

We came in with great expectations from seeing and hearing such great things, and they didn't disappoint. Our reservation was on the early side (4:30) but they didn't rush us through so we could relax and enjoy the ambiance and our drinks. The Manhattan was smooth and smoky, served with an ice block with "RPM" etched on the top. If we were to change anything, it would be ordering the garlic bread over the focaccia, but only personal preference. The Italian salad was full of flavor, and my seared scallops were tender and bursting with flavor. Service was prompt and polite, and the dining room had a great vibe. Overall we had a great and memorable anniversary dinner!

Highly Recommend

By KLynnB |

On a recent business trip to Chicago, I had a night solo to catch dinner. RPM was recommended by someone who had been there years ago on a trip. This place didn't disappoint! I found a seat at the bar which had a great 360 layout (seating all around). From the first hello I felt welcomed. I started with a Manhattan while I perused the menu. I ordered the Cavatelli and moved onto a nice glass of wine. I wish I remembered the name, the bartender recommended it and hit the nail on the head as something I was looking for. I ended my meal with the Cheesecake, it was big enough for 2, but I was desperate for something sweet. It melted in my mouth. It had a blueberry compote, which I am not traditionally a fan of (compote) but was delighted in the sweet/not so sweet finish to my meal. Overall I am only sad this place isn't closer to home (Boston). But I will keep this in mind if I ever go back to Chicago! Highly recommend!

Happy Birthday dinner

By Jazzgal67 |

This was a celebration birthday dinner for my daughter. We were super impressed with the beauty of the restaurant, the exceptional waitstaff and the magnificent food! From the bread with ricotta and honey, to the mixed cocktails and the squid ink pasta with King Crab…everything was amazing! And the Pistachio Gelato is INSANE! So delicious.

Will return

Visited on busy Friday evening. WHile on the noisey siede, its a conversation, fun, welcomng noise unlike sports bar noise. Food selection was perfect not too much but enough for a variety. Server was helpful, making suggestions and answered questons.

One of my wife and I go to places for great Italian food in a beautiful setting. The gluten free pasta is fantastic, great treat for someone who has celiac or just likes to eat gluten free.

Excellent every time

By Gavin B3RWY |

I visit RPM every time I go to Chicago. It’s one of my favourite restaurants IN THE WORLD! Just go and eat everything on the menu. The food is out of this world and the variety is amazing. Just go. Make a reservation!

Amazing wine list

By Reldas |

We were seated at a very cramped and unusually shaped table after waiting 20 minutes past our reservation time. That said, the wine list is incredible and the food and service were very, very good. It must be great because it was extremely crowded on a Tuesday night in August!

Not worth the money

By Voyage785995 |

We visited RPM Italian with friends. I had heard a lot of good about the restaurant, so was hoping for some really good, Italian food. Now, Italian food in the U.S. falls into two categories: the truly Italian, and the American-Italian (think spaghetti and meatballs and restaurants where they ask you if you want red or white sauce). I was hoping for the first, but unfortunately got an overpriced version of the second. The appetizers were not particularly Italian (brusselsprout and avocado salad anyone?), the pasta was significantly overcooked, and for reasons unknown, they served our pasta with our main course. If you're looking for American-Italian food you can find it in plenty of places around Chicago at more reasonable prices. If you want true Italian food there are also plenty of options (e.g. Coco Pazzo or Piccolo Sogno). To top it off, we had extremely uneven service throughout the night. We won't be going back.

Lovely Birthday Evening Celebration

By benbmke |

I hosted by birthday dinner here in early February with family, and loved every moment of it! Our service was kind and welcoming, and I enjoyed each of the appetizers we ordered, including the truffled garlic bread. I chose the roasted chicken with peperonata as well as an order of lobster ravioli, and was blown away by the flavor that the seasoning brought out of the chicken. The lobster ravioli was great, and I probably should've gotten more for takeaway. Spicy broccolini was also excellent. Easily the best chicken that I have had so far. For desert, I was brought miniature cones of sorbet, which were a great compliment to the luscious chocolate torte I ordered. It was a very special birthday celebration, and I cannot wait to return soon!

Great happy hour weekly to try different things at a lower price.

By Giovanni - Martha C |

Food was delicious and service was great ! It was nice for them to offer a happy hour weekly to try different things at a lower price. Everything was delicious, the only feedback is that my pasta was slightly more al dente then I prefer but taste was definitely on point! Definitely would recommend and return. We made reservations for the bar area which was perfect. It is not as pretentious as you may think based on some of the reviews. Go out and give them a try and enjoy!

Good

By L H |

Bucatini delicious, short rib pappardelle good too (small amount shredded short rib mixed in); the brussel sprout salad was surprisingly disappointing (needs to be caramelized, or at least wilted, with higher quality, not so gluey, dressing). Delivery took about an hour (Postmates pretty much ruined the night by failing to deliver, never providing an explanation for the missing order, and issuing a 'refund' in the form of a credit - as if I would ever order with them again, after having to wait another hour before getting the food from a different service).

Overrated

By Cynthia M |

The carbonara tastes like those Ramen soups that come in a bag. Portion is very small (2 oz) . The focaccia is good though we couldn’t really enjoy it because the servers are hovering over you ready to take the plates off the table while your still holding your last bite. They also add a 3% surcharge to your bill without explaining what the surcharge is for. Overall very unpleasant experience.

Date Night in Chicago

By Jeff W |

If they offered half stars this would be 4.5. Love the location, atmosphere and overall vibe. I feel bad for some of the servers who must wear white jackets with the top button closed since it seems the sizes on some of them seem so tight that it looks odd. As for for the food. We loved our mains. I had the swordfish and garlic mash and my wife the lobster ravioli. The garlic truffle bread wasn't our favorite but the other dish which I forgot the name was a mix of seafood and vegetable in a Tempura style was very good. In and out very quickly, I was surprised on a Monday morning how busy the restaurant was.

The minute you walk in , they are uptight, rude and unapproachable. I will never go back. Too many great steak restaurants for bad service at the door. Too bad bc the waitstaff is actually really good.

Mediocre service - good food - silly surcharges

By houston96 |

Really wanted to like the place. Our waitress was a little over the top. She immediately announced they REQUIRE all courses be ordered at once. In the end, the flow of apps versus entrees coming out was disjointed. So this “method” they have doesn’t work. The food was all good. But nothing was great. Finally the 3.5% livable wage charge or whatever is silly. Charge more for the food or whatever. But do t nickel and dime me down the itemized bill,

Dinner for 1 at the bar

By Sarahlee40 |

I’m in Chicago on business by myself. My husband and I had been to RPM Italian soon after it opened a few years back. The food was memorable that time so in coming back to Chicago I knew I wanted to visit again. Even though I was by myself, I made a reservation. When I arrived I was greeted - bar was empty so I asked to sit there which was fine. Benjamin was my server. He was a good bartender and server - not overly friendly but that was fine with me. The food was as good as I remembered. Burrata followed by bucatini with meatballs. Fantastic drink selections - I had a non alcoholic drink followed by a lovely Super Tuscan wine. I ended dinner with a perfect cappuccino. I’ll definitely return next time in Chicago.

Wonderful food & wine

By KHD |

Excellent service and delicious food. Incredibly tasty beets in the beet salad. The butternut squash ravioli was delectable. We also enjoyed a nice bottle of Montepulciano. The staff was top notch and we all really enjoyed our meals.

Best Italian Restaurant in The Midwest

By Jeffrey S |

First of this the best Italian restaurant in the Midwest. Second the they have great carbonara pasta 🍝. Third they have the best Tiramisu in the region. Lastly the people who work here are very nice 👍.

High end Italian

By hammyone |

Went to RPM after suggestion by a local. We got there early and sat at the bar - the aesthetic has a modern grounded vibe - darker and clean lines. The food was terrific - authentic, fresh, small portions and delicious. We loved the burrata and chicken parm. Interesting spritzers. We are not lovers of Italian wines so would have been nice to have a few other options on the extensive wine list. Sommelier was fantastic. Will go back.

Very good

By L H |

Stand-outs are eggplant parmigiana and pomodoro - both exceptionally delicious. Dishes arrived fresh and hot by delivery.

Good, but didn't blow me away for the prices

By Rosie K |

I knew from other reviews and my own research this was going to be spendy and have smaller portions. The food was good, no denying that... but nothing was mind-blowing for the price. I honestly didn't understand what most of the menu was so we were googling things as we were looking at it. Service was good, atmosphere was fun. Would I go back, probably not with all the other options in the city... but we enjoyed our experience.

Birthday

By Pat H |

I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant! The moment my group walked in the door we were greeted by a very nice Hostess, table was quite ready so we moved to the bar, also a group of very friendly and helpful staff. Once seated for dinner I can only say the waiter was more than helpful explaining any questions we had, the food was excellent, will definitely try and go back next time I am in Chicago!

Fantastic meal

By Cathy H |

Came here on the recommendation of a coworker. The food was amazing, service impeccable. Got seated right away on a Sunday night, don’t know how crucial reservations are at other times. I will definitely be back for another helping of the carbonara!

Wouldn’t return

By kcabode |

First visit, first impression too dark to see much and very loud music. Obviously popular but waited twenty minutes to be seated, the outside of what I expect when a table had been pre-booked. Wine ordered, glasses brought to the table but no sign of the wine for fifteen minutes. Appetizers very tasty, mains pasta underdone but chicken dish flavorful. On balance food was good but ambience not enjoyable, more suited to a nightclub than a restaurant and certainly not conducive to conversation.

Great atmosphere, calamitous food

By oldskoollondon |

Place looked great. Busy on a midweek night and atmosphere was lovely. Well spaced tables, very friendly staff. And then the food. Fried artichokes that bore no resemblance to the wonders you get in Italy, meatballs that tasted like the old ones from the 80s that you’d get in a tin. But the real showstopper was the cacio e pepe. Genuinely fascinated to know if the chef had ever tasted this dish done properly. What emerged from the kitchen was some overcooked malfaldine with an insipid cheese water threaded through. Mindblowingly awful. To be fair Italian food in the States is often done badly but such a shame that such a lovely place - with such nice, helpful staff - serves up such dross.

A mixed experience

By Quest484246 |

Pro:A Stylish restaurant with muted decor. The waitress was friendly. Checked back a few times but I prefer restaurants where the same waiter brings out the food. Here it is a bit disjointed with multiple waiters. The swordfish and filet mignon were well prepared and tasty. Con: Nothing major but enough quibbles to consider other options.Unfortunately more restaurants, like RPM Italian, are adding service charges to offset rising prices. The explanation that the management doesn’t wish to raise menu prices is laughable. The cost of dining at the end of the day is the same to the customer. It leaves an ick impression at the end of the meal. And the tip was automatically calculated with this fee included. My advice is just adjust the price on the menu. Secondly, no bill is presented but rather the customer is required to scan a QR code, then work through the payment system including typing your credit card # on the phone at the table in a low light. For this I am expected to leave a 22-25% gratuity? I’m doing all the work here. This is not an example of fine dining. A disappointing end to an otherwise decent meal. Overall, a nice enough restaurant but there are better places to eat for a more cohesive evening.

Great fine dining.

By Mark K |

The restaurant is beautiful. The food and the service were first class. We were able to have our entrees split so we could both enjoy the steak and risotto.

Great Food and Great Service

By Blue Crab |

We had a great dinner at RPM Italian! The atmosphere was ambient, and the server was very friendly. We each had a couple glasses of one. My wife ordered the chicken parmesan, and I ordered the lobster ravioli. I wish I'd known the ravioli was such a small portion; like a small appetizer. It was a little pricey for my dish, and I'd order something else next time. Good thing her chicken parmesan was a huge amount that she couldn't eat. I finished off her dinner. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'd recommend it.

Worst Experience I’ve Ever Had In Chicago

By Chelsea E |

I’ve before years ago and loved it. Tonight- we had to wait 30min to even get seated after we had reservations to then be treated like 2nd class citizens. To order anything was a 20 minute wait and then to be literally thrown the dessert menu was the cherry on top- literally. I didn’t even wait to put my card, I left cash and left immediately. Never going back.

Upscale and Yummy!

Upscale and Yummy! I was really impressed with the quality and flavor of the food. Service was impeccable

Wonderful Celebration Dinner at RPM Italian

By Zinfandelover |

DH and I, who live in Atlanta, were looking for a special restaurant in Chicago to host a celebration dinner to honor youngest child's graduation from law school. Friends from the "Not the New York TImes Cooking Community" recommended the RPM restaurant group, and we settled on RPM Italian. Am I glad we made that choice! Chelsea and Maddie, the private event planners, were wonderful to work with long distance, and they made sure that every detail was PERFECT! They offered us a choice between a smaller private room or a round table in the corner with a lazy Susan, and we took the table with the lazy Susan because we had a four-course family style meal. Quinn, the head server, and his team delivered plate after plate of food ranging from 600-day prosciutto to short rib parpadelle to bone-in, medium rare rib eye to fabulous desserts (a total of 3 appetizers, 3 pastas, 3 entrees, 2 sides, and 4 desserts!). The cocktails and wines Chelsea recommended were thoughtful and excellent choices for our budget. And our guest of honor left with not one, not two, but three bags of leftover treats - enough to feed her and her boyfriend for a week! Looking forward to our next trip to Chicago and another visit to RPM Italian! But in the meantime, take a look at the recipe for their short rib bolognese on their website. Highly recommended!

Great, not awesome

By Joaquin |

The service was a bit crapy. Took them 1.5 hrs to bring us our pastas. We were 8 but still it took for ages. The food was really good and the desserts even better.

Delicious food and fabulous atmosphere

By Ashley F |

We are here before a half marathon and loooooved it! The server was fantastic about explaining their plating, ie smaller portions than most are probably used to. However, we ordered an app and salads and even with a smaller plate portion, we were more than satisfied! Make sure you make a reservation, they were very busy on a Saturday. The pasta was amazing and fresh. You have to try this place out if you are visiting Chicago. I will be back!

Excellent Service and Amazing Food ..!!!

By AROUNDTHEWORLD! |

The service was Top Notch The prosciutto was absolutely outstanding The eggplant parmigiana delicious Do not forget the excellent Tiramisu ..!! We are definitely in an authentic Italian restaurant. Lots of flavor and very upscale products The wine list is superb and very raisonnable. you need to try a glass of Italien wine Etna very healthy and rocky. Far away the best Italian downtown Chicago..!!! Do not miss this place ... A Must 👏👏👏👏👏

Incredible Italian

By Marc C |

One of our favorite Italian spots in Chicago. Pastas are amazing: try the carbonara or short rib. Risotto with truffles should not be missed. Lots of fabulous starters including the lobster bruschetta and 600 Day Prosciutto. Don’t miss this place!

High end Italian

By klhchicago |

In a city with lots of great Italian food this restaurant aims to please the high end customer. It has the ambiance and service to please. The quality is here, however, if you want volume don't come here. This is not meant as a slight, but fact. There is a nice variety of pasta dishes and other to satisfy your palette along with nice salads, appetizers, etc. Great place to go if you want a special lunch or dinner or drink.

Terrible experience, horrible food and expensive

By María P |

Terrible experience. My couple and me visited Chicago for the first time in Feb 2021. Somebody recommended this restaurant so we made a reservation and came excited to the place. Unfortunately it was a deception. The restaurant is pretty and fancy but the personnel is not friendly at all. Our server didn’t make us feel comfortable or welcome. Gratuity PLUS a 5% surcharge (due to Covid) is included on the bill, so they don’t care about the service at all (you have to pay it anyways). The food is horrible and portions are small. I got sick after eating my pasta carbonara. When you go to a pricy place you expect quality in service and product, but RPM was definitely not the case. Avoid it!

Fabulous Food and Service

By Maureen F |

A must stop on your travels to Chicago. The atmospheris sultry and sexy. Portions are sufficient and well prepared.

Worth a Trip if you want this kind of Experience

By Shelleeta |

The service was Stellar, truly. The food was mostly very good. Appetizers: Caesar Salad - very good Arancini - very good Mains: Spaghetti with Meatball - great Chicken Parmesan - the one fail. Dry, tough, definitely made ahead. Spaghetti which was a side for the Chicken - very good Dessert: Bomboloni - Amazing! Very loud..this is a huge machine..very very well run. Worth a trip.

Good Food, Outstanding Service

By sobore |

I have been here a couple times and the service is always been great. The food is very good and tasty. A couple things to know, the portions are not large by any means, if you are a big eater you will need more than just a main dish. The menu is alla carte and is a bit pricey, easy to approach a $150 tab for two people with tip. If you are sensitive to noise, this is not the place for you as it can get loud.

Awesome vibe, with solid food too!

By sm28185 |

My first impression of the restaurant was very positive, as the overall vibe was a nice mix of upscale and trendy. The mix of the lighting, seating, music, etc. definitely stood out and made for a great and fun dinner atmosphere. The Prime Beef Meatballs was easily our favorite dish of the night. The meat itself was very tender and the sauce was delicious. The Short Rib Bolognese and Cacio e Pepe were unfortunately more of a mixed bag. The bolognese was pretty good, with the beef coming out very tender and exactly as one would expect from a short rib dish like this. We asked for it to be prepared a little on the spicier side and were glad that we did. The Cacio e Pepe, though, was very disappointing. It was definitely on the dry side and lacked much flavor in general. The side dish of Crispy Brussels Sprouts were solid, with a good crunchy texture. For dessert, the Bill's Chocolate Budino ended up being a pretty tasty option. The addition of cocoa nibs on top was a nice topping to balance out the mostly soft moussy texture and sweet caramel/chocolate flavor. Coupling all of that with the great service we received by Andrew and I'd say this was a great date night spot in town.

Upscale Urban Italian

By Thomas N |

Outstanding restaurant with interesting menu combining traditional Italian dishes with a bit of Mediterranean flair. Good wine list.

Fabulous experience

By amlicki |

We dined as a party of 6, with a reservation. We were seated promptly at a great corner table . Noise level was very manageable. Wait staff was attentive and prompt . Appetizers to desserts were great , drinks were very well made too . 2 diners were gluten free and the food was exceptional. Although there was no gf bread we found plenty of options. Would return and recommend to anyone visiting the city looking for a great Italian meal .

Another great visit, three years later

By CarpeDiemDFW |

It has been a bit over three years since our last visit to RPM and I am so happy that we decided to return. It was every bit as good as we remembered! We have a mix of Italian, seafood, and steak, none of is disappointed with our choices. The dessert menu was enticing as well, but we had plans for another location for dessert. RPM is a beautiful restaurant worth adding to your itinerary for any trip to Chicago.

Italian Contemporary Food

By Bruce G |

Valet parked, seated within 5 minutes of our arrival, decent table just up from the bar. 5 of us, we ordered 5 different appetizers & shared the dishes. all good, the Frito, fried seafood was my favorite. We each had individual entrees. a couple of steaks, some parmigiana, scallops, & my very tasty veal chop. The younger generation liked the ribbon like "Frites" (french Fries), they were done very nicely. Everyone liked their food. My son-in-law liked the extensive wine list, we had two Italian bottles that I was unfamiliar with. Liked them both. All in all a very good meal. Kids were welcome.A couple of larger groups having celebrations, pleasant place to be.

Another winner from RPM!

By ecaravello |

My fiance and I visited RPM for a combination birthday + engagement celebration. PROS: Our server was excellent. He was knowledgeable of the menu, made frequent trips to the table, allowed us plenty of time to visit between courses, and offered a couple of special touches to make the night extra special. The food was excellent as well, especially the prime beef meatballs, steak tartare, ricotta & honey focaccia, and bucatini. CONS: The wait for a table was long (despite having a reservation), and the lobby/waiting area got pretty crowded with many other parties also waiting. No fault of the restaurant, but we were unfortunately seated next to a table of six ladies who all suffered from main character syndrome, and apparently wanted the world to know it that night. The overall atmosphere was more club/lounge than restaurant. Not necessarily a negative, but not a positive either for those seeking a fine dining experience. All in all, we had a great night at RPM Italian and will be back. Recommended!

RPM Italian

By RockStarKatrina |

Food and ambiance was excellent. Excellent service. Vibe at the bar was cool. Chicago is known for its restaurants make sure to check RPM out when in town.

Food and service were exceptional

By DC |

Elegant, modern, dining room with dim lighting for an intimate experience for two, but larger groups easily accommodated. The crowd leans young and fun, but the older set and families will be well represented too. An astounding wine list carefully curated by the restaurant’s sommeliers at all price points. Wife had a unique Paloma cocktail, made with clarified grapefruit juice, which she enjoyed. Pasta dishes are on the smaller side, but good for sharing, as was recommended by our great, friendly waiter, Nate. Was a pleasure to be served by him. A real pro! A couple could easily share three pastas or two pastas and an appetizer would probably satisfy most appetites. We had the focaccia and whipped ricotta app, then shared a pasta carbonara and pappardelle with short rib ragu sauce, all of which was fantastic. Prices were reasonable and service attentive. will return

Excellent Food, Service and Vibrant Scene

By Charles S |

I recently visited RPM Italian with friends and was not disappointed. We were 4 people with a reservation (highly recommended) on a Saturday night. The restaurant was packed with people waiting just to check in. However, they allowed us to sit at a high-top table in the bar area and order drinks while waiting for our table to be ready. Within 5 minutes, our table was ready and the waitstaff promptly greeted us. On special was the pounded veal chop parmigiana and it was big enough to share between 2 people. Very delicious. I highly recommend RPM Italian when in the Chicago area.

Absolutely fabulous!

By Bill |

We celebrated my birthday. Fantastic evening! The food was spectacular and the service wonderful. Would definitely return next time in Chicago!

Roaches

By Angela C |

Where do I begin … today was my first/last experience here. To be clear, this is a “to-go” experience. Apparently the restaurant fulfills pick-up orders outside of normal hours. I had to go to a back entrance off of an alley. The order was not ready when I got there even though the order tracker said it was. While standing in the narrow hall entry way to the back of the kitchen I observed a cockroach on the wall behind shelves holding dishpans. I alerted the employee walking past who was able to catch and remove it. The server who brought the food was quite rude and unapologetic as there was only one cook and she was overwhelmed. Now I have food I am afraid to eat packaged in a bag I am afraid to bring into my home. Cockroaches brave enough to greet guests in daylight is a sign of a serious problem. I’d rather not know they exist even if I suspect. Wish I could comment on the food.

Definitely Worth a Visit

By Kisha Grate |

I recently visited this restaurant. Since it was Happy Hour, I sat at the bar. After a few drinks, which were delicious, I decided to eat. I started with the Truffle Risotto, which was absolutely delicious. After a Caesar salad, which was delicious but could have used some extra dressing, I had the Spicy King Crab. It was delicious! I will definitely eat here again the next time I am in town.

Great service, very good food.

By Yukon2017 |

Busy Monday night at RPM. Sat at high tops without reservation. Waiter was helpful with suggestions and portion control. Huge wine list. Bolognese was very good. Tartare app was excellent. Definitely worth the trip.

Sommelier Experience is Terrific! Wine Director, John Slatter, is the real deal!

By Scott G |

The Sommelier Experience at RPM Italian is phenomenal! 5 courses with 5 pairings and some extras. John Slatter, wine director, was awesome!! He couldn't haven't been better. He was super knowledgeable about the wines, the grapes, the regions they came from, and the quality and variety was excellent. The service level was top notch, one of the chefs came out twice and we were greeted with an arrival drink while waiting to be seated. I've been to RPM several times before and it's always been solid, but the Som Experience dialed things up several notches. Highly recommend trying it out.

Nail Clipping in Our Food

By jasmine d |

small group of friends and I decided to try RPM Italian. We had reserved for a table a couple days in advance, and had driven hours for what we had expected to be amazing in the form of service. Unfortunately, that night did not end that well due to the clear fact that there was a nail clipping discovered in our cold antipasti, Steak Tartare. We had not discovered it until the nail clipping made its way into my friend’s mouth. Keep in mind, we ordered multiple antipasti’s and sides to share because of the great reviews we had read on this establishment, and with that being said, the Steak Tartare was eaten by all of us. Immediately, we alerted our waiter, Alec (who did a wonderful job by the way,) so he was aware of the nail clipping and was able to see for himself. He immediately apologized, removed the appetizer and the nail clipping, and let us know that he would speak to a manager. We completely understand that mistakes are inevitable, but it’s extremely unfortunate how the situation was handled by Marcos, the first manager, who had spoken with us. He approached us and apologized, however, continued to proceed with saying that what we had found was the “rind of the cheese wax,” which completely disregards the fact that it was clearly a nail clipping. It wasn’t until we had brought up taking photos and showing him the photos, until Marcos acknowledge it as a nail clipping and apologized. For him to approach us and disregard it as a nail clipping was extremely unfortunate since he was not the one to have discovered it and chew on it. It is very clear, not only by the texture of the nail clipping, but also by the obvious nail ridges and curves, that it was not the rind of cheese wax, and 100% a nail clipping. To an establishment as such, coming hours away to spend our time and hard earned money here, the service provided from the first manager was extremely disgusting, however, as stated before, we do understand that mistakes are bond to happen here and there, but what is an issue, is how it was handled and had wished that the service given from the first manger was better. Eventually, we had requested to speak to a second manger, Isabella, who listened and handled the situation perfectly, so we do appreciate the effort that was given to us unlike the previous manger. Overall, the food was alright. We had quickly lost our appetite after the nail clipping in the Steak Tartare, and sadly, didn’t get to enjoy our time there because of the issue that had occurred. Mistakes happen. That we know and understand, however, the situation handled by manger Marcos was terrible and left us never wanting to step foot into this establishment again.

Long time fan of RPM Italian may never return.

By Pat M |

RPM Italian has been our go-to restaurant for special occasions for years. We love the food, service and atmosphere. However our experience hosting our friends for their 40th wedding anniversary was so bad we may never return. We arrived early for a reservation made weeks in advance. The first table we were shown to was a booth that had a pole at one end that made it obviously suited for three people, not four. I asked politely for another table. We were then shown to a table in a dark corner all the way on the west side of the restaurant far off the main dining room. I then politely asked if we could have one of the numerous empty tables we passed in the main dining room. We were then shown to a table at the far south end of the restaurant directly next to a busing station. The hostess threw the wine menu in the table and walked away. Instead of continuing to politely ask for a decent table, we just sat down and tried to make the best of it. The food and service were very good, but the table location put a real damper on a special evening. We’ve been gold status members at LEY for years. To be ushered past so many nice tables and shown three sub-standard locations resulted in an atrocious customer experience and was frankly just insulting. No customer should be treated that way. The implication was clearly that for whatever reason, we weren’t worthy of a table in the main ding room. Several of which remained open for an hour after we arrived. What a shame for a restaurant that had previously provided consistency first class dining experiences.

Great date night dinner

By Rob L |

Set a reservation for my wife’s b day. The staff as we entered were upbeat and positive. Our waiter was fantastic very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, even offered to have their wine expert come to discuss wine pairings. Food was great, heads up when they say it’s shareable believe them, we ordered way to much should have shared a salad and the pasta. The pasta was fantastic and beautifully plated. Drinks were good too!

Pretty good

By Suzanne F |

The restaurant itself is wonderfully decorated. It has a lot of energy. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The food is good but the pasta portions seem small for the price. Maybe that’s just the city.

Very nice restaurant.

By mc5117 |

Very nice restaurant. Great shareable dishes of excellent standard. Loved the shrimp app (on toast), and my favorite was the chicken parm. Awesome list of wines also. Great atmosphere.

Commercial Italian. No better than Carrabas Italian Grill.

By TannTravels |

Mediocre Italian food and service. Reminded me of Carrabas style cuisine. Drinks were basic, and so was the service. This place thrives because of the name And ownership. The bar itself was a vibe however and enjjoyable. Would probably Return for a glass of wine or espresso martini.

Cool restaurant

By ccrosthwaite |

This restaurant came highly recommended and it didn’t disappoint. Awesome food & staff! The homemade pasta was delicious. The garlic bread was so good! Our server was amazing, very attentive. The vibe was very cool! Would definitely recommend.

Delicious Italian, but expensive

By Jess Krogman |

RPM Italian was one of the must-see stops on my trip to Chicago. The food did NOT disappoint. It was so delicious! Best eggplant parm I've ever had. So flavorful. We also got the Ricotta Ciabatta toast. That was delcious as well. I would definitely recommend dressing up for this place. i was in jeans and felt underdressed. Biggest negative was the expensive price, but you literally get what you pay for. Worth every penny. We went around 3pm on Saturday and it was definitely empty enough where you don't need reservations. We made reservations online just in case though.

First visit to RPM

By Dan S |

Had a great experience. Very attentive professional service. All 3 of us had chicken parm and it was very good . Really liked their slightly sweet red sauce. Good bread and salad. We shared prime meatballs appetizer- again , very pleased. The food pricing was reasonable for the portions and Chicago but the wine was pricey. A wide selection but pricey. Reservations recommended. I travel to Chicago for business and will return to RPM.

Always Delicious!

By TracyS1014 |

After a long walk in the snow we were thrilled to arrive at RPM. Our visit was fantastic. We had delicious Focaccia bread, brussel sprout salad, eggplant Parmesan and mushroom risotto. Mini donuts were the perfect ending to an amazing meal.

Evening Dinner Out

By COE_Traveler |

We spent the night in Chicago and selected RPM for dinner. We were walk in guests and were initially told we could only get in with a reservation. As we were walking out, a hostess grabbed us and said they could seat us, if we could be done before the next reservation came in. We took the table. The food was really good. Service was exceptional. I know our server had other tables, but he made us feel like we were his only one. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality of the Italian food made it worth it.

House made gluten free pasta and it was delicious!

By Livetotravel221 |

RPM is an updated classic Italian restaurant. The food was really great but pricy. They have a gluten free menu with burrata and bruschetta featured. We were disappointed to find that the burrata was served without any bread. We asked about the bruschetta and found the gluten free version is served on lettuce. That is not bruschetta. RPM Italian is a member of the Lettuce Entertain you group and they always do an amazing job of addressing gluten free diets. RPM not having a gluten free bread substitute was a huge disappointment. That being said I do want to give RPM Italian credit for the best gluten free pasta that we have had outside of Italy. The gluten free pasta is actually made in house. The regular pastas are also made in house and were wonderful. The pasta portions were not huge, but I much prefer a smaller portion of great pasta versus a large portion of mediocre pasta. I was able to enjoy every bite and have room to share a dessert. The service was extraordinary. Our server helped us select a reasonably priced Chianti. The restaurant was very busy and it was a Tuesday night; Our table was off to the side so conversation was easy. We had a wonderful evening.

Great!

Girls' Night Out!

By JKNiebs |

Four of us met up in Chicago from other cities for a girls' weekend and this spot was perfect for our first night's dinner plans. We were seated in one of those clamshell comfy tables and enjoyed sharing appetizers and wine before we tucked into our dishes of homemade pasta. Tasty dessert enough for hte four of us to split! Very attentive service too!

Delicious flavours, great service and atmosphere, loved it!

By ReenyL |

Loved this place, very flavourful food, great service and a classy atmosphere. We had the 600 day aged prosciutto, the gluten free carbonara (with gf fettuccine which had one of the closest tastings to the real thing I've eaten) and the truffle risotto with shaved black truffles from France. Jess took care of us and was friendly, helpful and extremely component. We were even given a complimentary dessert on the house which was one of the best desserts I've ever eaten (like a giant gelato Ferrero Roche ball), delicious! We wouldn't hesitate to eat there again when next in town.

Feast of 7 Fishes got us there and will bring me back

By mooresy2 |

We dined here Christmas Eve and had the Feast of 7 fishes menu. Our reservation was at 10pm and even though the dining room was still very full we were fine with sitting in the large bar area at a table away from everyone with a nice perch to people watch. Our waiter "Kevin?" was amazing throughout..was prompt with our drinks and explained the menu and the dishes very well. Only issue which is minor would be for a server working in the bar area who did not know the wine profiles and had to ask someone about the apertifs after dinner at a fine dining establishment such as RPM. Every dish was excellent one after the other..i doubt my pictures will load :-( but started with antipasti of a raw oyster and a couple crudos a fish and then a dish of scallop crudo, then had the octopus salad, spaghetti with vongole, i tried my partners risotto with truffle, then had the branzino and he had the lobster.Dinner all in all such a treat and at 85$ plus the wine pairing it was quite affordable for the amount and the quality of the food.

Awesome service and food

They food is amazing! The place is beautiful inside and was so fun. Our waiter - TRAVIS - was awesome and so fun! Will go back next time I am in Chicago!

Was a wonderful dining experience

If you have tickets to a show, want to celebrate a special occasion, this is it! Such a great dining experience! Went to the bar since we were earlier than our reservations. The list is extensive. Even great no alcohol options for those that do not drink. The fritte appetizer was phenomenal! If you get the 0asta entrees, it's just enough. Everything is rich and delicious. One person in our party ordered the chicken parmesan. Two filets and a small spaghetti or bucatini. They had to have that wrapped up. We had no room for the desserts, but looked amazing when other diners were having them served at their tables. A great time and would go again for a special occasion for sure! Highly recommend.

Saturday Evening - Italiano

By artess1 |

Marvelous Italian eating definitely $$$$ in a series of RPM restaurants. Note: Lighting is very dark and restaurant gets very loud as fills up! Offers a full bar w/great non alcoholic cocktails (“Waitlist”), friendly waitstaff but very busy! Starters: whipped Feta & Honey, Truffled Garlic Bread. Salads: Caesar, ask for no extra anchovy, Brussels Sprouts & Avocado. Squash Blossoms are fabulous, the Octopus is a bit smokey. Entre’s: Tagliatelle & Sweet Corn Agnolotti are wonderful. Side of crispy Brussels Sprouts a must! Ask as to whether all above can be shared or not?

We Will Be Back!

Beautiful, romantic ambiance and excellent service. Kasha, our server, was knowledgeable, personable and friendly. Besides the delicious meal, she made the experience very positive. Enjoyed the 600 day aged prosciutto, a rather large serving for only two people though. We shared the Caesar salad, short rib pasta and grilled prawns. Plenty of food, yet not stuffed. Dessert was an amazing tiramisu with coffee chocolate sauce and gelato.

First night had to be RPM !

By windy1875 |

First night in Chicago and RPM Italian was the choice months in advance so please book !! We arrived a lot bit early and front of house advised they would text when table ready which was very quick. Seated inside the restaurant which is much bigger than expected. Meat balls and focaccia to start followed by carbonara and short rib pasta. Everything was utterly delicious and we would recommend all of the dishes. Too full for dessert but they also looked delicious.

Disappointed at the service

By Kathy S |

Very disappointed, this restaurant came highly recommended by family members so we were excited to try when we went to Chicago. The service was horrible, we waited 45 minutes for our reservation with Very little communication from the hostess. When they were ready to take us she apologized and asked if we had any dietary restrictions because they would send over some appetizers as a way to thank us for the long wait. Those promised apps never came. The food was good but we ate at lots of great restaurants here in Chicago so service really sets it apart. This was not what we expected. Very disappointed.

Amazing dinner with familya and friends

By Jorge Toscana |

Had a great dinner there, nice atmosphere, excellent wine list. Had a guest with allegry problems, the chef came out a nd explained to him which foods he could choose from based on his allergies. Great attention to detail.

Left before we were seated

By Factbook111 |

Unbelievably loud, hyper noisy (? by design), and poorly managed reception that was jammed with people annoyed by delays in being seated, despite reservations. Perhaps food is worth navigating this scene, which was on a weekday night.

UNACCEPTABLE SERVICE!

By Sherry O |

We are from out of town and were so excited to go back to RPM. While having a nice time, my best friend’s chair broke leaving him in the floor. He was terribly embarrassed and then had to just stand by the table until they could find another chair. Everyone around us was staring, probably assuming that he was drunk. The staff showed zero care or concern. We were stunned at the lack of interest and common courtesy. Part of our meal was comped, only after multiple requests to speak to a manager. Unacceptable service. We will not be back.

Certainly a good Italian restaurant

By Ian G |

We came here following a recommendation and to have a change from some of the other culinary delights in Chicago. Good choices - I had a truffle risotto - and good sized portions. The restaurant was very busy and I suggest you book in advance. Good wine and excellent service.

Great service..

We had family in town and decided to try out RPM Italian for the first time. Having dined before at RPM seafood we were looking forward to it. The decor and warmth of the interior is terrific! Very stylish and warm at the same time. Our waiter Cole W was excellent throughout and helped guide us thru the menu. From the appetizers of bruschetta to our steak and seafood entrees everything was superb! We will be back!

Fine dining restaurant is actually fine dining

By Meena J |

This restaurant is Wao for vegetarian food lovers it has quite a few Italian vegetarian options which are yummy and tasty rosemary garlic bread and some vodka pasta were too good. I didn’t enjoy the vegetarian rice balls though. Our friends too enjoyed their non vegetarian food only the light was too dim that reading menu was also difficult. Even phone light was not sufficient. Otherwise the whole experience was good. The staff the severs food everything was good

Another classic Italian restaurant heard from

As if there aren't enough outstanding Italian restaurants in Chicago, add RPM Italian to the list. Near the top. After all, what would you expect from the Chicago-based Lettuce Entertain You restaurant empire? Located at 52 West Illinois Street, at Dearborn, in the bustling River North neighborhood, it is another spiffy collaboration between the celebrity couple of Bill and Giuliana Rancic and RJ. Jerrod and Molly Melman of LEY, who also have given us RPM Steak, RPM Seafood and Pizzeria Portofino. Open from 4 to 9:30 on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 4 to 9 on Wednesday, and 3 to 10:30 on Friday and Saturday, it offers modern Italian cuisine and daily home-made pasta, including such favorites as carbonara, spring king crab, Maine lobster Caprese and Maine lobster ravioli. I started with Stracciatella bruschetta with roasted heirloom tomatoes on house-made ciabatta, Caesar salad with parmesan frico and prime beef meatballs with roasted garlic, pomodoro sauce and shaved parmesan. For my entree, I enjoyed a plate of spaghetti and meatballs with basil and pomodoro sauce with asparagus. For dessert, tiramisu with mascarpone, coffee cremeux and dark chocolate really hit the spot. So did RPM Italian.

Consistently delicious & awesome wine selection!

By Beth Caldwell |

We’ve been coming here since they opened. The ricotta toast and Mama Dupandi’s meatballs are always our starters with vintage wines by the glass that provide an incredibly fun way to taste bottles beyond your budget. The branzini is phenomenal and any/every pasta dish is artfully prepared. Finally, their chocolate Bombino is an addiction we cannot cure.

A must visit spot in Chicago

By RLNW |

My coworkers and I had a great time at RPM Italian Chicago. The ambience is lively and well-suited for group gatherings or people celebrating special occasions. My colleagues and I visited after a business event, and I was so glad we did, as the restaurant offered a great setting to relax, sit back, and unwind. The affogato was my highlight, and I was also impressed by the extensive selection of wines and cocktails to complement our meals. The reception staff and servers were very attentive and professional. It was a great evening. Highly recommended.

Just a regular spot

By JKCDMom |

I had thought this was going to blow me away. It was good, but not mind blowing. There are so many Italian choices in Chicago. The Eggplant Parm was delicious. Maybe it was the sidewalk dining that was just ordinary. So many other choices. The service was great. Food good.

Modern and great service

By Everywhere is on the list… |

Really modern restaurant; music, lighting, etc. Service was superb… not rushed but attentive. Great atmosphere and perfect for groups if you want a “long” experience ie not dine and dash. The menu was a little limited for my taste but great wine list and good value for money.

Pleasant Experience

By mmarcos0717 |

Went Christmas Eve with my family. Was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the place was. We did encounter some ignorance, but from other diners, not staff. The food came out delicious and promptly. The wait staff was attentive. Was a good experience.

Very Spicy Sauce

By travelgirl1NewYork |

Service was great, ambiance awesome, the place was hopping for a weeknight! The only thing is that the food was just not what I expected. I personally do not like spicy sauces on my Italian dishes and I do feel like they should warn you. I ordered the Chicken Parm - spicy? Side dish of Pasta super spicy? Took it home to see if my husband who is Italian would like... nope. I would think there are others that feel the same way and perhaps they could offer sauces that are traditional or spicy for better variety. Just my thoughts

Fun place to go for inventive Italian

By Maria Carini |

RMP Italian had delicious food, good service and it was fun experience. It is a nice place for special occasions and good for a big group because the menu allows you to share many dishes with the table. The squash ravioli, octopus and lemon cake were my favorite dishes.

RPM Italian Superb!

By Navigate10553207728 |

What a beautiful restaurant! The service was excellent. Throughout the entire meal we never felt rushed. They actually let us enjoy the meal and the time together. The food is excellent. The eggplant parmigiana was superb! Can be a little pricey but totally worth it!

Very good, but loud!

By Lisa B |

We were 10 adults celebrating family birthdays and a wedding anniversary. We had a round table, and although we weren’t far from each other, the loud pounding background music made conversation difficult. RPM is essentially an Italian restaurant, with a relatively small but varied menu. We ordered a variety of appetizers (2 orders of each) - sauteed artichokes with lemon aioli, burrata (a large ball) with pesto, a sprinkling of arugula and a couple of cherry tomatoes (why so few tomatoes? It’s tomato season!), a delicious garlic bread, Italian salad, and shredded brussel sprout salad. All were very good and filling. Then came the rest - again, we shared and had too much food. Eggplant parmesan was excellent, sweet corn agnolotti with summer truffle (yum!), bucatini with pomodoro was unremarkable, chicken parmesan, meatballs, and other dishes to which I paid no attention since I am vegetarian. Then dessert - mini gelato cones in various flavors, cannoli, and bomboloni. All deemed good, but we were full! Service was very attentive. All in all, a very good meal. Just wish they would turn down the music!

Poor service, Mediocre food

By acorvette4me |

Our dinner for four was ruined by the drunken group next to us, lukewarm, less than exciting entres and extremely unattentive service

Fabulous meal, great experience!

By Anita K |

Had dinner here tonight for our 10th Anniversary. Amazing experience! I had the filet, my husband the salmon. Both delicious! Great bottle of wine and we had the special truffle risotto for an appetizer, it was fantastic! The waitstaff was impeccable and they treated us ver specially knowing it was our anniversary. I highly recommend.

Disappointed

By Starcaster9 |

After months of being home, we we’re finally going back to RPM. A place we felt treated like royalty. This time, we were seated at the worst table in the house and felt rushed to leave. The food was fine but the rest of the experience was very disappointing and we won’t be going back.

Felt invisible

By Extraordinary83921 |

I sat down at the bar on Friday, July 18th, around 5pm. I waited for about 10 minutes before a bartender (one of four) to silently hand me a Happy Hour menu and walk away. I waited for another 10 minutes for the bartender that handed me the menu, to return. I was taken aback for a moment because of the lack of the typical “protocol” of the bartender/server asking what I wanted, my bartender instead stood silently in front me, waiting for me to initiate the conversation. I ordered, and that was the second to last interaction I had with my bartender until I was given then bill (without asking). Even though there were four bartenders behind the bar, it was evident each had their assigned section. I watched my bartender interact with other customers in his section, but when it came to me, he would walk by, not looking toward my direction to see if I might need something. He even made drinks in front of me, not looking up. I seriously felt I could have walked out without paying and would have not been noticed. I understand when things get busy the staff cannot provide the same level of attention as they can when things are slower, however everyone around me had a higher level of service that I was not fortunate to experience. If I was buried in my phone like some people were, I could understand, but I was not. I went to Steak 48 afterwards and had the complete opposite experience. RPM Italian may have good food and a good ambience, but there are many restaurants with those qualities in Chicago. I prefer to give my business to restaurants that have good food, good ambience and value ALL of their customers. It is unlikely I will return anytime soon, unfortunately.
