I stopped in to this place for a quick bite to eat while waiting for the Chinese New Year festival and parade to start downtown. I don't always judge a place by its appearance because sometimes the food can be very good in the simplest of places. The dรฉcor at Raavi left something to be desired. It looked worn down, dirty and tired. I ordered two vegetarian dishes (Aloo Gohbi and Palak Paneer), basmati rice and Onion Naan. The food didn't wow me. The portions were small. I had ordered 2 orders of rice but we barely got one. Everything was self service so I had to go and get my own place setting, drink and bus my own dishes. Not sure why they asked for a tip when paying the bill because they didn't do anything. I was not impressed and won't be going back.

Authentic North Indian cuisine that is absolutely delicious. Reminds us of the home cooking we experienced during our four year stay in Delhi. Quality and quantity are excellent. Price is totally reasonable. This is a family owned business with perfection and personality adding to the overall experience. Highly recommend everything about this restaurant. There is something on the menu for everyone.

We ordered butter chicken, saag lamb, daal makhani, baigan bharta, and tandoori roti. Everything was delicious and served piping hot! Complimentary chai is also excellent (not the overly milky kind they serve in some other similar restaurants). Casual seating environment; saw several people stop in to pick up food too. Will definitely return here.

We were looking for a restaurant that doesnโt just have Chinese cuisine, which is not so easy in Chinatown ๐ ๐ ๐ . The first impression of the restaurant is deceiving, as it does not seem very inviting. The furniture looks cheap and worn. The restaurant also has a delivery service, because scooter drivers were constantly taking over food. You can also order and pick up food. You don't order at the table, you order directly at the cash register. Payment is then made there even after the order The food was delicious and quickly prepared. It tasted authentic and aromatic. The portions are sufficient and at a totally fair price. We will probably go again ๐๐.

Very disappointing, not the cleanest place, totally self service, awful food, ordered a paneer dish and we got a bowl full of gravy with 6 pieces of paneer - when sent back it came back with 8 pieces in total! Naans were thick heavy and very dense. Not impressed and certainly not returning.

The owner is such a sweetheart. He is so nice and makes sure that you're really satisfied with the food and the atmosphere. He is not rushing anyone but looks for honest and sincere conversations with you. The food is so good, too! I really enjoyed the naan that I had. Thank you so much!

doesnt get much better than that! delivery guy nice!? wow shocking. Food delivered without spilling (curry!!) fantastic! and that black lentil goodness i have never tasted before like that! oh and i almost forgot: no.. the samosas are not too salty. They are salty but not too salty.

We have had takeout and stayed for dinner. We had chicken and lamb korma, chicken tiki masala, biryani, kebabs and nann. Everything is freshly made and very flavorful. We can never finish all that we ordered. Restaurant is often filled with families all eating together and individual patrons eating alone. Youโve got to try it.

Looking for good Indian food in Chinatown - San Francisco this is the place. Food was quiet nice, service is decent for a cheap Indian restaurant. If the owner revamps it little bit & markets himself more I'm sure he'll do better. Still was worth it and definitely a come back when in Chinatown. Try out the mango lassi & gulab jamun too...

The location is very central (near the Financial District and North Beach, about a 15 minute walk from Union Square) and the food is absolutely amazing. Even though the restaurant isn't the place to go for a romantic date I would definitely recommend getting take out or going for a more casual meal. The cheese naan bread is to die for. Lots of vegetarian options! I simply got tikka masala sauce and had it with naan and rice. Friendly staff and efficient cooking!

In consent with my Indian/ Pakistani friends, Raavi is a real gem! Spicy, authentic taste and atmosphere

Great food and the staff were friendly, helpful and appreciative of their customers. Had chicken tikka masala and the spinach and cheese. Delicious!

Located in Chinatown, this restaurant has humble roots. They have some concept of self service. I tried Paneer Tikka Masala gravy and the preparation was very sour. Did not expect this at all, had read some decent reviews on Google. Breads were ok. Food quality needs to be improved.

Our meals were excellent. Food had to be ordered at the counter but was delivered by a waiter to our table. The cost of our meal was very reasonable.

This is one of the worst restaurant I have visited till time. Firstly we with a gang of 5 friends visited this place for lunch to satisfy our late hunger. The restaurant is poorly maintained and especially people will hate a visit to restrooms. It's a worse case. Even food was very poor that we had to waste complete order. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and would suggest anyone to stay away from this place.

Disappointed w the briyani but otherwise the rest of what we had was not too bad. I ordered basmati rice and tandoori chicken for my kids that was really good. The samosas were a bit too salty. Otherwise, it's not too bad. Decently priced Indian food right in San Francisco.

Visited Raavi multiple times for Veg Indian food. The curries are nice and can be teamed up with anything - bread or rice. However, breads can improve - thought they were not baked properly. The restaurant does not look very clean. They can make it more organized and clean. Therefore, pick food from here and eat at a cleaner/nicer place.

The food, in my case a lamb curry, was absolutely delicious. Friendly service and a reasonable price.

This is a simple & small restaurant. It is a self service restaurant so orders are taken at the counter. The food is tasty and not too spicy and the portions are very generous. Prices are very fair. With the crazy expensive prices in SF, this is an excellent option.

A take out place with some tables, this kitchen employes a cook with solid skills when it comes to the tastes of the Hindu Kush! There is no service to speak of. They don't have a beer or wine license, but I've spoke with the owner several times and he encourages BYOB. Never busy but it can be a bit of a wait for food so leave yourself half an hour or so. The reward? Very good food. I'm a huge fan of a lemony Pakistani version of a chicken curry called "Achari". They do it well. Some naan, a side of rice and a samosa and it's the perfect meal if you're not counting carbs. You'll swear you're in Karachi.

If you're bored of Chinese food in SF try this small restaurant for a fix of Indian food. It's not the best curry house but the food is tasty, naan bread nice and poppadoms tasty. Chicken curry meat was on the bone in the sauce. This is my only gripe, otherwise a nice meal.

It isn't a fashionable restaurant but their food is good enough to compete with others. I don't know if their Tikka Masala is authentic but it is very delicious as well as Biriyani and Naan. Try their tea with milk while waiting your order, you will be surprised if you haven't tried that before.

I had a craving to Indian food and this place was open and not too far. I had lamb tikki masala. It was great. And some rice. Fluffy. It's all serve yourself. very casual. Order at the counter, get your plate silverware glassware and take to your table. But I had Lamb, beer and rice for $20.00. Almost like a cafeteria. TV with Indian Bollywood and Indian music. Indian families were eating there. I will definitely go back.

Had to order the food and the counter but that wasn't a problem, luckily we had seen the portions before we bought, so we decided to share. Plenty of plates and knives and forks to help yourself too. The portions were huge, we had a chicken biryani, a little over spiced on the cardamon but we ate quite a lot. The naan bread were the best bit, soft and delicious

No pretenses- clean and basic , self service restaurant , though you can eat in comfortably too ! Does brisk take out deliveries ! Super quality food , quite authentic , their Sheek Kabab , chicken Tikka Masala , naans, tandoori items are recommended ! If you miss good INDIAN food , come home here !

This is definitely not a fancy place - but the food is really tasty and original. Ordered fish cooked with spinach (fish palak) and basmati rice. Very good. It looks a popular place among locals (by the number of people having dinner there on a Friday night). Totally recommend it.

The samosas and tandoori chicken are delish and prices are reasonable. Love the chai station where I can make my own re-fills. The staff is very friendly and the dining area tidy.

Very nice selection of different curries as well as appetizers and desserts. Good size portions. Plenty of seating food was authentic and delicious.

A little gem just off Chinatown. Great lunchtime thali. We both got the chicken curry. Good level of spice, fantastic naan bread, very creamy saag aloo and decent dhal. Highly recommended.

I had the chicken lunch special, to go priced at $8.00. It included chicken in a flavorful sauce, great tasting chopped; cooked spinach, Indian rice, salad and nan bread. It was well worth the price. Sarbi a front desk host at the nearby Club Quarters Hotel sent me here, a good suggestion!

I was with some friends and someone suggested Raavi's. When we got there the staff greeted us very friendly. Since it was my first time, I wasn't sure of what to order but they had pictures of their dishes on the walls and that was very helpful. ALL look yummy. So we ordered Naan, rice, garbanzo beans and a Lamb dish. ALL were SUPERB!!!!! The prices were good, oh its a self serve place so they bring out your food but you get up and get your plate and fork and you sort of share the food with everyone in your table. Very nice, totally coming back here.

Basic looking restaurant where you have to collect your own soft drinks, plates, cutlery and napkins. Most of the food was excellent. The only bad dish was the Keema Naan, the meat inside was not crumbly mince, it was more like a meat patty. We had the Chicken Tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, butter chicken, rice, onion naan, garlic naan and keema naan.

The Raavi is a small Indian Restaurant with North Indian Cuisine. It has only a couple of tables, but there is no problem getting one if you're there. There is a good choice of Indian Dishes. Compared to dishes you get if you're in Delhi or Mumbay, you get really good and authentic food! I don't know how the kitchen is doing that, but it's really amazing! Fast and high quality. I'm a great lover of indian food and I really have high expectations which are sometimes difficult to meet, but here: great food, great service and gread value for money!

Had the chicken tikka masala and spinach with cheese. Masala sauce was good. But the chicken literally have the texture of rubber. And it had an odd Smoky flavor, and I don't mean that in a good way. Garlic naan was good. Diet Pepsi met expectations. Won't be back.

After eating here I got really sick. Ordered the chicken curry and it had a pungent smell. Asked the waiter to replace the item with chicken tikka masala. Not much improved. The establishment is very dirty, the service is horrible. The tall man with the mustache was atrocious, and was angry with me for asking for my meal to be switched. Beware diners!
Delicious and cheap Indian food
Tried Raavi during our stroll near Embarcadero when Raavi turned out to be one of the only few cheap Indian restaurants nearby. The place looked like a typical cheap diner but by no means bad - clean and good seating space. The staff was very courteous and helpful, even though it was a self service. The food options were amazing at great prices. Tried Paneer and Daal along with Naan and both dishes were amazing. If you are craving Indian / Pakistani food while in the area, must give Raavi a try.
