Authentic German Bier and grilled specialties

By Arismendis_D |

The place has the genuine feel of a German biergarten like what one would find in Europe. The most impressive thing is their selection of delicious delectable beers on tap. Do your self and order a tall glass of the Weihenstephaner Vitus. The grill has a varied selection of sausages that were well worth their cost. The kitchen menu looked impressive, but my appetite could not keep up with beer, beer cheese soup and huge pretzel.

Good food

By PennStateTim_24 |

Came here for brunch. Very good fun atmosphere. I had the pancakes which were great. Drinks are good as was the coffee. Pretzels are huge and beer cheese was really good.

Sausages!!!!

By Paola R |

This place gets pretty crowded and it may be hard to grab a seat . Food is pretty good with several options of sausages . Other stuff on menu too. Inexpensive . Parking is difficult . Come here with a group of friends and you'll have a good time !

Great Brunch!!

By Roni C |

I was visiting the neighborhood with friends. We all had to use the ladies room, despite the restaurant getting ready to open, they permitted us to use the restrooms. We had an appointment, but decided to go back there for brunch, since they were so nice. What a pleasant surprise. we had a great brunch. I had the butternut squash quiche and it was perfect, It came with a small salad that was just delicious.

Great saturday afternoon

By Craig P |

Long communal tables do a great job accommodating large and small groups in this architecturally interesting beer hall. The european beer selection is wonderful, and the sausages from the grill are delicious; I loved the currywurst and weisswurst. The fries and sauerkraut (naturally) are the perfect sides. This is a great place to spend an afternoon catching up with your friends over great food and beer. There are bar waitstaff to bring drinks, however food must be ordered and paid for at the grill. One thing to note is there was a band playing in the larger room and it was quite loud. If you would like to have a conversation without screaming, I'd avoid that room.

My new favorite place to drink and eat in Brooklyn

By organizized |

I was coming to Brooklyn to see a concert and met a friend who lives in Williamsburg at Radegast for some beers before the show. Neither of us had ever been there. We had planned on going elsewhere for dinner, but once we were sitting at the bar, drinking some of the great beers that they had on draught, my friend and I (with the consent of my wife and my friend's acquaintence) decided we'd try the european fare that Radegast had to offer. We are very glad we did. Everything was great and was served relatively promptly. They've got a regular menu, but also sell sausages, kielbasa and burgers at a grill station in the biergarten section. If you're in Williamsburg, do yourself a favor and block off several hours to enjoy some great beer and delicious food at Radegast.

It's all about the Brussels Sprouts!

By Fish_chips_gravy |

Great live music, nice staff, great sides - so good we didn't even have to order a main meal (Brussels sprouts with bacon - yum!) really good feel to the place and our first introduction to Williamsburg, and Brooklyn, I'll be staying in this neighbourhood next time I'm in New York

Liters of beer & a pretzel!

By fmphil |

This place is an authentic beer hall with a lot of German beers and food as well! I only had a liter of lager & half a pretzel, but they were great as well as the atmosphere!

Fun place!

By mistercrabs |

Visited here this past September and had a great time. Beer was wonderful and there were many varieties to choose from. Food was good - portion adequate and came quickly despite being very crowded. Hats off to servers! They were friendly and efficient. Pig roast was complementary. Funky oompah band played to lend to the festive atmosphere. Come here to people watch. Its loud and proud and great place for large groups.

Will Definitely Return

By Struffele |

Passed by this authentic looking German restaurant one night with my kids and could not go in because of the bar and bouncers! Went back for lunch with the kids and truly enjoyed it. My husband and I ordered the lunch special which was a Bratwurst with sauerkraut and fries with a beer. The bratwurst was delicious and the fries could have been the best I ever had. There was a large assortment of mustards to top our bratwurst. My kids ordered from the grille which is an a la carte menu and more of an order and serve yourself type menu. That was a little confusing at first. There were two different menus and you paid two different people. Once we figured that out we were good to go. Loved the beer and the atmosphere too. Staff were friendly as well as the other patrons. We will be back!

Authentic Bavarian beer hall

By Robert W |

The extensive beer list, is of course outstanding, but so is the food. Great schnitzel melt -- with giant pretzel and German mustard. Located in a mid-19th century German concert hall, the dinner menu is very appetizing and we intended to return for dinner, but didn't have time. Weisswurst served at an independent grill in the long hall is a mild veal & pork sausage, good for those who can't take spices.

Authentic German beer hall

By Narek D |

Wonderful beer hall in the best spirit of famous Bavarian beer houses. Can be ridiculously packed, so be prepared to wait for drinks and tables.

Great atmosphere and surpisingly good sausages

By AtypicalTexan |

Went in for lunch with an old friend after some business - recon of the hipster retailers of Williamsburg/Bushwick. Great atmosphere. Good selection of draft beers. Excellent house made sausages. Thoroughly enjoyed. Beer Hall style seating - rows of shared massive oak tables. Felt quite authentic, not a cheesy imitation.

Loud and fun

By Kim S |

This is huge space which gets filled quickly. The food and drinks were good. The service was really good. Seating can be challenging with strangely shaped tables and chairs but that is all part of the fun vibe.

Decent biergarten in Brooklyn

By Matthew B |

Easter sausage was great, companion's bratwurst was lacking. Some of the best sauerkraut either of us has ever had. Crowded and a little disorienting on a Saturday night...had to order sausages from one station, appetiers from another, and beer from yet another. Funplace overall, reasonably priced for Williamsburg.

Good brunch, but the rest was a little disappointing

By Karine C |

We went there for brunch and appreciated the food. Everything was tasty, portions were perfect for the price, ambiance and service were a little cold, but the sunny interior made it comfortable. Only big turn-off for us is that we wondered why, in 2018, they can shamelessly use disposable plastic glasses in a sit-in restaurant?!? I mean, maybe it’s an American thing, but still... I see no logical reason to use plastic glasses in such a nice place. We found this very disappointing.

European beer hall in Brooklyn

By Tommy A |

We went to the beer hall after our Brooklyn Brewery tour. The sausages off the grill with fries and kraut was good and the beer tasting on tuesday nights was good as well! It was $10 for 4 tastings (totalling about .5 liters).

Tons of Beer and Delicious Sausage

By felixmatteo88 |

Came here for the second time last weekend for a birthday and had a blast. We've come here twice now with friends, and it's a perfect place for fans of any variety of beer and sausage. They have bratwurst, currywurst, and all of the best wursts you can imagine. French fries, too! The beer selection is immense, and also includes a few ciders, as well. If you come on the weekend, expect it to be packed, especially now around the holidays. On the plus side, it's really festive and beautiful, with a couple of giant Christmas trees and walls festooned with lights. It is quite dark, though, so be prepared for that. If you're in Brooklyn and are a big fan of beer, definitely come check out Radegast.

Bier und Brezel!

By GerardFS77 |

On our bike tour through Brooklyn we made a pitstop at the Radegast Biergarten. It's a great place in a cool neighborhood. They have a good beer selection and the Brezels are fresh. The service is good and the waitresses are dressed up nicely. It's not so much a real Garten but a hall with large gaps in the roof and walls. So actually it's feels a bit like sitting outside. There're other bars/restaurant in the US that try the Biergarten concept but fail and my wife knows because she grew up in the south of Germany so she's been to a bunch. In a couple of days she's again, dressed up in her Dirndl at the all-time Biergarten: the Oktoberfest in Muenchen. Radegast will definitely earn extra points if they train their waitresses like the ladies on the Oktoberfest, powerlifting crazy amounts of beer.

What a gem!!!

By Jamie S |

This place has an incredible beer selection and even had my favorite cider from the UK (aspalls). The food was delicious and very fairly priced. They had a German band playing while we were there that really topped the atmosphere off.

Beer for All!

By Kelly L |

I came here for the first time in about 5 years. The biergarten still has a rustic charm and instrumental music that has made it well known in certain circles. I arrived with a big group (10+ people) on a Saturday afternoon to celebrate a birthday and they got us a small table. We branched out to a second one when a group nearby left. We needed the room! If you don't mind going out to Williamsburg (I recommend the east side ferry for a scenic trip) and overhead fans instead of ac, you'll have a blast. There were so many beers to choose from on the menu. I settled on a lemon shandy, but I tried 3 or four others from my friend's liter-sized mugs and they were all delicious.

huge, great beer, great...

huge, great beer, great food too.

Nice beer and grilled sausage

By zestrax |

Themed a bit like a German beer Keller with a large hall with big long wooden benches and tables. The Bavarian atmosphere soon puts you in the mood for a beer and German food. I recommend the sausages from the grill be prepared to queue. The Germans have got it right beer sausage mustard add some fries and you got the best of Radegast. If the service was as good this would definately be a four star but the guy at the bar got the order completely wrong and trying to get service while your eating in the hall was crazy. All the serving staff looked miserable. It also got way to noisy playing the game at the same level as a concert makes everyone shout at each other add to that the hard eching surfaces. Not a place for a quiet pint and snack.

Great beer selection

By LOR |

Stopped here before heading to a gig at Music Hall of Williamsburg. It's a great spot, quite authentic and reminiscent of the typical German Brauhaus scene. Food choice is limited but the menu stays loyal to the theme and dishes are delicious. Service is friendly and good, there is also a live music scene on most nights.

Best bratwurst in nyc

By Liz |

The bratwurst is tasty and filling, make sure you get it with the pretzel bun, mustard and sauerkraut! Order the sausages from the grill in the beer garden, they are not on the main menu. The Hofbrau beer is great too :)

The beer can be damaging, but that's part of the fun.

The beer can be damaging, but that's part of the fun.

Great beer, friendly staff

By JamesWilliamsburg |

Radegast is a great spot, the authentic feel, large space, and vast imported beer selection make for a quality experience. The bar staff is extremely friendly, and they seem to have a special glass for every different kind of beer they have! Happy hour deals are superb, the food is delicious and hearty.

Really accurate replica of German/Czech beer hall

By TexanFansFromKaty |

This reminded me of a recent trip to Prague. Had a great stein of Pilsener Urquell and sat at a large wooden table and bench while listening to a group playing waltzes and polkas. The pretzels and sausage were very good as well. It is really a lot of fun and wish there were more places like this

Loud and Fun

By FrenchSaladDressing |

The beer is amazing - the selection will have you trying to decide a few minutes longer than the average establishment. The day we went (a Saturday) there was the funnest band playing that I have ever experienced. High and Mighty Brass Band. More than entertainers.

Superb LIVELY Sat afternoon venue - with big band

By TheoA201 |

I really liked this place. Great loud boisterous atmosphere on a saturday afternoon. Although its super busy, the floor staff are very fast with service. They overcharged me on 2 drinks, and were very professional about fixing it. Very social fun place. Give it a go on a Saturday afternoon when they have a band!

Beer!

By Buttsman |

We stopped through here on a Saturday in October and it was in full swing. I had a large beer and my wife had a pretzel that she loved. The band was good, the people were fun, the service was fast, and the crowd was lively. Good beer selection and great times.

Great beer and sausage

By Rod D |

We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon while walking around Williamsburg. The beer and sausage were good but the service was slow and not very friendly. The beer garden was nice but the inside seating area was dimly lit and a stark contrast to the beer garden. We decided to sit inside thinking it would be cooler but it wasn't. If we visit again we'll sit in the beer garden.

2 only for the atmosphere

By KG10 |

My husband and I recently visited Radegast Hall with excited expectations. The overall look-and possible vibe is beautiful. We sat inside due to the heat, but on a beautiful day I imagine the beer garden is awesome. We rate this a 2 because service was awful. First of all, the bartenders look like just released convicts. But more importantly, the service was terrible. It was a slow night, with minimal customers and 2 bartenders. Yet, we had exceptionally slow service. I inquired about a whiskey drink that was on the menu. My question was "is the drink worth it or does it ruin a very smooth upscale whiskey?" The bartender told me it was best to go with the drink. So I did, and it was awful. It did ruin a great whiskey! That's my fault for not sticking with my gut. I ended up asking the other bartender to water my drink down with Sprite (as the original bartender never even checked back with us concerning our drinks). For us, it wasn't a hit but maybe it was an "off" night.

Great beer hall

We went at lunchtime and it was thankfully almost empty. Excellent (although expensive( selection of draft European beers, excellent bratwurst with sauerkraut and salads. Will go in evening next time for the atmosphere.

Beer and sausages

Nice beer garden, with lot of space inside and in a cool patio. Barbecue style sausages order. To try also the pretzel. Large selection of German and European Beers. Live music chill out the table.

Good beer, average food, terrible service

By Ian K |

Lets start with the good, the beer selection is very good, lots of different types of beer, especially german beers (as you'd expect in a Biergarten). Our waitress to start was very good and very friendly. Are experience of the Radegast started very well. Then we ordered the food!! The goulash, jaegerschnitzel and schweinshaxen. The goulash was OK, the schnitzel was average, and the pork knuckle is possibly the worst thing I have ever tasted. It was just salt, fat, gristle and bone. No meat whatsoever. When we complained, the manager came over and said that it was meant to be like that and that it was our fault for not understanding the menu. Which was ridiculously condescending. My sister-in-law who also had it, lived in Germany for a year and between the four of us on the table have been to Germany over a dozen times. This isn't how they serve schweinshaxen. It was obviously just an excuse for using a terrible cut of meat. They did swap it for the jaegerschnitzel (I've had better), but the night was already ruined by the attitude of the manager and the pork knuckle, which literally left a bad taste in my mouth. To add further insult, our previous waitress left, and was replaced by someone else. Who disappeared and took us about ten minutes to hunt down. To add further insult, they then added in a gratuity onto our bill, assuming that we weren't going to tip there appalling service. (we did leave a tip, purely because of the first waitress)

Bit'o'Germany in Billysburg!

On a lovely Fall afternoon, we hit the German Trifecta! Veal schnitzel, bratwurst and Oktoberfest beer...Wow! What a great venue. We will definitley be returning as the atmosphere just invites good times with good friends. Prost!

Fun place for great food

Another restaurant we unexpectedly found ourselves in during our holiday trip to New York. The food was amazing and portions were deceptively large.

So worth a visit

Best Burger I've ever had- Succulent Turkey & Sweet Potato Fries... No words!! Draft beer was close to perfect

Can't have a bad time!

By Marie-Elise |

We were greeted by the friendliest bartender. This is a great place to go in the afternoon when it is not crowded. Great selection of beer and good food. If you like crowds, it is rocking after 6. You can't go wrong, if you just want to chill and have a beer. We loved it!🍻

October in the US and understaffed

By jc56733 |

The Radegast is a good place to eat and get good imported beer, much of it from Germany. The waitresses are awesome and the food is great. Why not more stars? It's October in America. We think of Oktoberfest and flock to the beer halls. The owners of this hall are surprised by this and year after year are understaffed. You will literally wait for a half hour for your food and or beer order to arrive. Again, I want to stress the bartenders, cooks, waiters and waitresses are working very hard. I've been here now three years in a row. The crowds aren't a surprise to me. Clearly the owners represent that class of employer that is trying to milk all they can from their staff and from their customers.

bloody enormous pretzel!!

By VikiBoyko |

Nice big place with good ambience. Took advantage of ordering a main dish and getting one of their drink selections for an extra $4 and enjoyed my pig out. Shandy gaff with a pretzel with mustard and beer cheese. Should fuel up a big farty belly! Was really tasty, big warm pretzel, arrived with pickles and a very mustardy sauce. Enough for 3 of us to nibble. Enjoyed the shandy gaff - good complement to the food.

Great place for european beer

By flowerpunk |

Radegast is based on classic european beer halls but with an american twist. They have a great selection of beers and the venue itself is worth a visit. Highly recommended.

Try their burger!

By Pim v |

One of the best burgers I’ve ever had in my life! 10 of 10!!! Also very kind people and nice atmosphere

Awsome atmosphere

By SpringRollUnicorns |

We found this spot in Brooklyn and found a fantastic range of beer. Amazing atmosphere in the evening with live band and a full house. Open fire grill with rustic German food and very good sausages. Worth going to Brooklyn just for a night here, but go during the weekends.

Great Ambiance

By ReeceLiang |

Great experience and ambiance, definitely worth a visit for New York locals. Food had an authentic feel and was reasonably priced. Lively venue with friendly crowd. Live band was there on the night I went that was very good

Something Very Different

By Tracey T |

If you want something a bit different this is it, but not if you want somewhere quiet! Very lively and buzzing. Lots of different beers and bratwurst eaten at large wooden tables. Love jazz was the order of the day during our visit. You can see all of the food being cooked as you wait.

go for the vibe

By VarunMishra |

a derby match was being displayed on their projectors when I went there. full of chirpy people having drinks and sausages. great atmosphere

Zum! Zum! Zum!

By alcool17 |

What a blast! Excellent beers served in a crowded beer hall lined with long, community tables and live music! What more could one want? Food? Say no more! The grill inside offers a wide variety of German sausages on a plate with red cabbage and fries for a reasonable price. Damn this place is cool. If you're over 35, you will enjoy it. If you're under 35, you're gonna love it!

80 beers + 13 on tap= 1 happy visitor

By Dave B |

This is an awesome place to grab a brew when by the Brooklyn waterfront. Try the gosser pilsner, liter size. It'll taste like gold and you'll feel like a champion holding that mug as the trumpets play.

Live music Austrian sausage frenzy

By Nicola R |

Arrived shortly before 9pm to see the band that eve. Sat out back and had a sausage dinner. Amazing. Great choice and value. Courteous and quick service from the always available waitresses. Moved to the front of the venue to hear Lucky Chops (who regularly appear and are a must see). Danced. Drank. And generally was merry. Staff dodged the moves and brought fresh drinks. Not cheap for booze but the music and atmosphere are free so it all balances out.

fun time

By smokecheck t |

This actually was not our original destination on this visit to brooklyn. On a warn sunday we were heading for a brewery that for a mysterious reason was closed until 5pm. Our friends knew of this place, so being hot and thirsty it seemed like an easy decision. They obviously have mostly german beers and although I tend to prefer IPA's every beer we tried was fresh, cold and tasty. I especially liked the Weihenstephaner Vitus, might have misspelled that, and the Krusovice Imperial. We tried some sausages and they were great. If you're in brooklyn on a hot day a german beer garden is a good place to cool off. Well worth the visit.

Good beer and sausages, great music

By GaleN536 |

Visited on a Monday, kitchen closed so only sausages and fries at the grill, served with sauerkraut. Actually dinner fit for a beer hall. Great surprise was the music, provided this night by the Gypsy Jazz Caravan. Toe tapping Django Reinhardt inspired music with some vocals by the bass player. All in all good. Seating in the bar seems best for the music. We,re 60s and the crowd is more 20ish, we liked a table with chairs. Grill room was picnic benches.

My favorite NYC German restaurant so far

By Jason V |

During my trips to NYC I’ve been working my way through the German restaurants. While all of my experiences have been positive, I liked the interior and theme of this place more than all the others. There were more than a few beers on the menu I had not yet had, which says something in and of itself. Very tasty goulash, though I wish the portion was larger. The pretzel I had with it was excellent. Would definitely return the next time I’m in NYC.

Beer, but the good kind of beer!

By Diorr |

I've been to this beer garden three times. I have been pleased with each visit. I normally stuck to the bar dining on a variety of Dunkels or ciders. However, yesterday was my first time at sit down service. The waitress' were a bit harried on the feet serving a large hall. So it wasn't greatest time wise but they tried there absolute best and that says something. But food, dessert and the atmosphere made up for it. Hofbrau dunkel Weihenstephan Schneider Weiss original Try those beers. They made my friend and I very happy

Authentic In Every Way...Not to be missed

By Hawaiian555 |

Love this authentic beer garden. The grilled sausages are excellent and mouthwatering, especially as you wait in a cafeteria type line to get your food. The beer hall with it's long table and high open ceiling is authentic and beautiful. But it's all about the food and atmosphere and not to be missed.

Horrible service

By Noemie T |

I was there with a group of friends ! The waitress was so haughty and condescending... And she tried to charge us more ! And when we asked her manager for explanations, he just couldn’t answer us. Do not take strangers for fools, that’s rude.

RUDE Management

By Alison T |

As far as the atmosphere and beer goes, it's a great place. Unfortunately, our night was spoiled by the manager, Carrie who has no idea how to do her job. My group of friends and I were very excited to find this place as we were reuniting after having lived in Germany together and one of the girls with us was visiting the states from Germany. We both ordered the jaegerschnitzel. Upon ordering I requested to substitute the potato salad with the spaezle as that's what is traditionally served with most meals and a favorite of mine. I was told I could not and decided to give it a chance anyway thinking the dish would have some other redeeming quality. I was disappointed further to see that there was actually no gravy, only sauteed mushrooms on top (even though it even says bacon and mushroom GRAVY on the menu). The dill pickles were good as they tasted like they were made in house but I only picked at the potato salad. It's not that it was bad, I'm just not a big potato salad fan. I did eat all of the schnitzel because I was hungry and the flavor was not bad, it's just not what I had been hoping for. I asked the server to speak with the manager because I felt like the dish was not at all worth the $18 they charge. Upon approaching the table the manager had a horrible attitude from the get go. Instead of trying to fix the problem she only made the situation worse by arguing with me. I've been in the service industry for quite a long time and high end service industry for years. I told her I understood that I ate all the schnitzel that the issue was not with the taste of the food but with the value and lack of authenticity. Instead of trying to consider our input she was completely unprofessional in her mannerisms. When asked why I didn't say anything before I finished eating I said I didn't feel like they would do anything anyway - they wouldn't substitute and there was obviously no gravy. She argued that was the way the chef did things and when I inquired why they wouldn't substitute for an item that was the same price she wouldn't give me a reason other than that's just the way we do things. Her attitude was so argumentative that I actually ended the conversation by saying there is no reason for us to be talking right now when all you're going to do is stand here and argue with me when all I did was try to give her some input. All she had to do was apologize, listen and perhaps offer a dessert or a beer or something to make up for the poor value. I never even asked for anything but at the very least just make us feel like you actually care about the customers input. Our server was completely apologetic and we told her it was not HER fault her manager was rude and has no customer service skills. Completely ruined our experience and it's safe to say we'll never go back.

Great place to enjoy a nice beer.

By Bruno C |

If you like beers this is the place. The beer menu it's amazing. Iyou can try a burguer, a sausage or another german dish. For me the sausages with sauerkraut and fries are awesome! You can try the large variety of mustard seasonings too.

Relaxed beer hall for friends and family

By vFNG |

Met our daughter and boyfriend here between their Bushwick apt. and our Lower Manhattan hotel. They enjoyed grilled sausages and beer. My husband found a delicious gluten-free beer and steak. I had a delicious veal schnitzel, with crunchy breading. It was a Sunday evening so not as crowded. But giant hall for large groups, a few blocks from the Bedford Ave. stop on L train. When asked, residents directed us to the correct streets. Reasonable/inexpensive costs.

Beer and Sausage... what could be Wurst?

By Vilma A |

Radegast, of all the beer gardens (Harlem Tavern, Bohemian Beer Garden in Astoria, Bierhaus in NYC) within my radius (30 miles) it's my favorite. Like the vibe, like the crowd (yes hipsters), love the food and drink. Great menu which the restaurant changes menu seasonally. Their kielbasa is my favorite (I've tried their lamb and chicken sausage) served with a heap of sauerkraut and fried potatoes. Next to the grill there are at least 4-6 types of mustards! Soft pretzel yummy and huge. The beers, excellent. I turn to the bartender for recommendations. Seating is "family" style long tables with benches. During the summer months, it gets crowded after work. There is live entertainment (jazz, bluegrass, folk) check website for talent. Prices? Very Budget friendly especially if you order from the grill. Family with kids? I haven't seen the times I've been there, not sure I would bring very young children (gets loud). Date place... yeah, stay by the bar side which has seating cubbies. Parking, yes street parking. Public trans, yes M train to Bedford Ave 3 blocks away. McCarren Park is about 8 blocks away, take a stroll after. Enjoy!!

World Cup Blues

Went to Radegast for Germany vs Mexico World Cup game. Had Bavarian Brunch with a cold Hofbrau. Great food, great beer, great atmosphere. The only downer was the Germans forgot how to play soccer. Radegast, always a good time.

10 stars!!!

Smoked pork loin was stupendous! Best ever sauerkraut! Generous portions. Also enjoyed Wiener schnitzel and curry sausage.

one of the best german beer gardens in NY

By berlinizer |

Radegast has to be one of the best german style beerhalls in New York, and there are plenty of them nowadays. Located in the center of Williamsburg, Radegast has a good variety of beer, decent (although small) german food and always a great atmosphere. For me as a expat German in NY, definetely one of my favourite places.

Twice in 1 week!

By Kyoty |

A German beer garden in Brooklyn! And an authentic version at that. German beer in a proper stein with German style sausage cooked on a proper grill at the back. What's not to love? More than a just a local drinking spot - a true family style German Biergarten in the early hours and a hopping hop bar later in the day. Great fun all the time.

Awesome food and beer... if you can find a table

By Nick F |

Seat yourself kind of place. Live music; open and airy; great selection of grilled sausages; great selection of traditional German food; excellent craft beer. Only con is it's very, very hard to find a table, especially with parties over 4 people.

Worst management attitude I've come across globally

By Daniel K |

We live in the neighborhood and go pretty frequently for their hamburgers during the week. Matt, the bartender, is one of the best bartenders in Williamsburg. However, we met the weekend manager today, Lenny, who could not have been a bigger jerk. May not even be his real name. Flashy shirt, young guy, dark hair, condescending smirk. It’s hard for someone to offend me, but this insecure arrogant sociopath soaked in male toxicity could not have been more rude. A simple question of why my cheeseburger was $34 on the weekend when it’s normally $25 during the week could’ve been so easily explained. But instead, it became an opportunity for him to flex, be dismissive, and belittle me. He was pretty proud of himself. And of course, the guy flipping burgers suddenly had memory loss and couldn’t remember his name or anyone else’s in the place. If it wasn’t for Matt, we would never go back to this place. This guy needs to seriously be retrained and should not be in any sort of managerial position. I can’t imagine how many people he treats like this and they never say anything. Way to go upper management. Nice choice in representation. I should have filmed the guy and gone viral with it. Maybe next time I will. But I’m gonna bet that this place does so much business that they could care less about their local regulars and the rudeness of their management staff.

Amazing Venue

By ManiKochar |

Like an amazing British beer garden, but indoors. Long benches where a huge group could go for a stag/hen party, cool hipsters rubbing shoulders with groups of young mums and their buggies. A proper buzz to the place, and food and beer in easy supply. Definitely a fun visit.

BIRTHDAY CAKE WHAT?!!!

By Danielle T |

So j reserved their back hall for my Birthday party this past year and while making the reservation the manager informed me that if I wanted a cake I needed to order one from them. So I left him know how many people I thought I wanted the cake for and they told me it was going to be Chocolate something. I'm not too picky so I was confident that it would be good because their dinner menu is right on. So we had the party!! It was amazing BY THE WAY and he cake comes out. 1. It's GORGEOUS 2. It's ALL chocolate ganache on the outside 3. It's COVERED in red raspberries! Oh then we tasted it... Pretty much the BEST CAKE EVER! It was rich chocolatey with chocolate chips inside the cake batter itself and just the best ingredients. Seriously, if you want your birthday here splurge and order a cake.. You and your friends won't soon forget it!!

Good atmosphere to finish off the night in Williamsburg

By SiberianEmo |

Williamsburgh (yep, with an h) is one of my favorite areas in New York. Radegast Hall is conveniently located a few blocks walk from the Domino Park. After spending time watching sunset over East River, head over for some drinks and music. The place was reasonably crowded for the Saturday night. Did not try any food, so cannot comment on that.

Great beer, fab food and entertainment

By BA001 |

This is a fantastic venue in Brooklyn. A massive selection of beers from across the globe and a tasty little menu. A grill selection of German wursts of all kinds. The prices are very reasonable and if served by staff all very helpful and pleasant. Entertainment is great with live music to keep you happy. Not too loud so yoy can't talk. Definitely a return to venue and a recommended visit if you're in the area.

Excellent selection of beer

By Noceto |

With a German husband and half German son, who is a resident of NY, this place was a must. If there were a rating between 'average' and 'very good', that's what it would be. Their selection of beers is excellent but the food stopped somewhere short of 'very good' for us and we found it over-priced for what it was. There was live music (jazz yesterday but I believe there's live music every evening), which was great, unless you wanted to talk, as we did. Conversation was very difficult. Having said all that, it's worth a visit if you like German Bierkeller.

Great beer and bratwurst

this place is a blast - great selection of German beer and food was excellent - staff friendly and helpful definitely worth a visit!

European Beer Hall

By MRM1655 |

We enjoyed our visit to Radegast. It reminded me of an Austrian beer hall I visited years ago. There's a nice selection of European beers. The bar food also has a European twist: wursts, pretzels, frites. All very good. Much of the seating is at long communal tables. This place is fun. Looking forward to going back...

Large beer hall with sort of outside, inside feeling. Well done. Food ... okay to bad.

By Nathalie H |

Eaten here twice, just for drinks once. First brunch was really bad, big servings of mediocre french toast... expensive! Second time had dinner... sign out front promoted a goulash and small beer special. When the bill came... they said we were too late for the special on the chalk board (still) outside. Way too expensive for what we ate. Didn't taste bad but was a small portion of a real cheap cut of meet cooked to death for about $16. Ouch! The good part of being here that night was they had a swing/jazz kind of a girl band that was great. Next time had drinks and the exotic beer and cocktails were very good. So go for booze, music and eat only if starving and flush in your pocket. Communal tables in the beer garden part. Not a quiet restaurant.

Great vibe. Delicious beers!

By Naomi R |

Radegast Hall had everything I could ask for: great food, delicious beers, and a relaxed casual atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, I use the term "relaxed" very loosely. This *is* a beer hall after all. It was pretty crowded and loud but everyone was in good spirits. I met interesting people and had a really nice meal as well. 5 stars!

Brooklyn in beer garden form

By Arthur T |

We went here before the San Fermin show at Williamsburg Music Hall. We got there early for a Friday (around 6:00) and it was fairly empty. As the night wore on it got more crowded and had a great beer hall feeling. The choices were extensive and the food was above average for this kind of place. We go to the Pilsener Haus here in Hoboken a lot and it's similar, with a feel that it's been there forever even if you know it was retro-fitted into the building only a short time ago. We're not in Williamsburg often but this is a great place with less of a hipster vibe than many other bars in the area. Since we're a little older that's welcome.

a very unpleasant experience

By Elisa S |

I have already traveled a lot in my life and the home of this bar is one of the worst I have ever experienced in my life. we were a group of 20 french students. We were their only guests of the evening so we were looking forward to a better welcome. The waitress was execrable Very unpleasant, superficiality out of the ordinary, the kind of waitress that just makes you want to finish your drink quickly and go away. Finally, our big surprise it’s when we’re paying the bill the waitress does not take the coins because apparently the establishment does not accept them. and when we ask the manager for explanations he just tells us it's like that. an advice : flee this bar there are so many other good bars in the same neighborhood.

Easy Living in Brooklyn

By Cliffkol |

First time here. Came here with friends who visit all the time. We were there on a Monday and we found out that the kitchen is closed on Mondays! They only serve from the grill, so we ordered sandwiches -- brats, sausages and Portobello mushrooms. Everything was delicious, especially the sauerkraut and mustards. Fun place and would go back on a night other than Monday!

Stick with sweet options for brunch

By ObsidianSnow |

I really wanted to enjoy my brunch order and I trusted a friend who brought me to this place, but they overcooked it. I asked the waitress how good was the kitchen at getting the NY strip steak in the steak & eggs dish medium rare and she assured me that they could. I also asked for the eggs to be over. Well, both items were cooked a lot more than I had expected. The fries on the plate were also overcooked. The steak was likely less than a 1/4 pound after cooked. I never saw our waitress again. Someone else brought the check. I don't send overcooked food back because it is wasteful, but I don't return again. The other dish my friend ordered was the berry compote french toast and I should have went with that one even though I'm trying to stick to more protein at the beginning of the day. The cup for tea was really small and I was never offered more hot water.

Great bar for groups

By CanadianBaby |

My friends and I had a really fun time after accidentally stumbling upon Radegast. The restaurant/biergarten is huge and we sat at one of the picnic tables. The beer was great, service was excellent and the music and atmosphere was 10/10. It's loud, I wouldn't bring kids. We didn't have any food but it smelled great.

Beer lover's haven

By worldcitizengirl |

After some 5-6 mile walk, a group of us went in here on a Saturday afternoon. Place was already packed with people waiting to sit at the cafeteria-like tables in one half of the place (where you also order food.) The other half is the bar and the surrounding tables. Place is huge. Vast selection of beer, no shortage there whatever you're into. Food is pretty decent just a bit pricy. On a Williamsburg scale though, average. Hipsters & yuppies abound. There was also a cool 20's style band playing that day. Very talented dudes.

Who eated my Synebrychoff?!

By gordonsmc |

Very spacious place, not much going on in terms of sports, decent selection of European brews, grill service with the usual complement of sausages, fries, and kraut. Surprisingly large selection of vegetarian items. Service was good, fast and on the spot. Of course they ran out of the only Finnish olut that was on the list (the titular porter), offered to replace it with the Celebrator. Really? But that's OK. You can do much worse in a bierhalle in Brooklyn.

Humiliated Minnesotans

By Bruce453 |

Friday night June 14 my wife (54), son (21) and son's girlfriend (22), and I (55) hoped to enjoy a couple of beers and dinner. The first come seating can be a great way to meet folks and the long common benches reminded me of fun nights I have had in Munchen, Salzburg and Frankfurt. That is where the comparison to a friendly beer hall ends. We ordered and were served three beers at the bar. For some reason after my son's girlfriend took one drink the bartender demanded to see her ID. She had forgotten it. She was told she could not finish the beer and he took it away. While we decided if we would stay he demanded my wife and I pay for our beers. We decided to finish the beers but the bartender said we could not stand at the bar. Since table space had opened we sat down. In the mean time the bartender had gotten a bouncer to come to the table. Knowing she did not have an ID, he asked to see one again and then proceeded to ask us to leave the premises and escorted us out. We had not made a scene and were quietly finishing the beer we were asked to pay for understanding our son's girlfriend would not be served. Our party was humiliated and the folks around us left asking what was wrong. Be advised, there is a policy no one under 21 is allowed after 8:00 PM, but the people at the door had no issue letting our party in. We were there around 8:30 and no one in our party was under 21. To demand payment for drinks and then immediately have us kicked out is the most rude treatment I have ever experienced. Any establishment has the right to refuse service. However, some common sense and class should be used when making these decisions. I would advise folks both class and common sense are absent at the Radegast. Be prepared to be treated poorly if you go there. The two sips of beer I had were fine. The food smelled good, but, we were never allowed to order any of it.

Great beer and German food

By ronelay |

The Radegast Biergarten is off the beaten path but well worth the trip. They have a good variety of German beers on tap as well as in bottles. We ate from the lunch menu which had a variety of sausages with sauerkraut. I had Kielbasa and my wife had Weisswurst. Both were very good. If you like German beer and German food in a casual atmosphere, the Radegast is a good place to visit.

Authentic German Bar feel

By J2424 |

The minute I walked past this bar my girlfriend knew I wanted to stop in for a beer. I immediately felt like I was in Munich with their long, large picnic style tables and complete German decor. Great beer. Stop by for a beer or some German food.

Fun place!

By Kevin B |

This place is really fun! There's 2 different food areas inside, one for sausages and fries and another for other German food. There's also a great variety of German and some Belgian brews, served in half-liter and liter sizes. Seating consists of picnic tables and is first come, first served and the place is dog-friendly. The staff were really nice as well and the sausage was great! I definitely recommend this restaurant!

Something a bit different

By StephHadenHaysTravel |

I visited here on 21st August when visiting Brooklyn. The venue itself is quite interesting as it's a large hall area with long wooden benches and tables to sit at. The main feature of the hall is the grill area where they cook the variety of sausages fresh for you. We had a bratwurst for $11 (£8) and fries $6 (£4) to share. You queue up to order your food at the grill or there are other meal options available if you don't want sausages which you order from your table. The sausage was worth the short waiting time as it was really delicious and very filling. There was also a live band playing during our lunch which added to the lovely atmosphere.

Authentic German beer offering

By Ricky D |

this guest house offers authentic German beers in a true German environment. Long tables for community dining, beer served in half and one liter mugs. The grill is separate from the restaurant so be aware that the two do not combine bills. One patron tonight hit the atm to get cash for the grill tab. The grill has various sausages that are average. The pork shoulder sandwich was juicy and spiced well...great atmosphere just like a German Rathskeller, friendly staff, average food.

Can be dangerous!

By Massimiliano P |

Big No, it was a bad experience, seeing the cook touching the food with his hands without gloves after touching money and credit cards was not nice.

Interesting place - wonderful Beer

By Amanda Z |

We visited the Biergarten this past Sunday for a wedding. The venue was beautiful. The beer selection was fantastic and the private bartenders we had were very attentive. The hot pretzels and home made mustard were fantastic!

Great beers and food

By KANewYork |

This is a great place in Williamsburg. They have some wonderful drafts- choose a pitcher or by the mug. The pretzel is mouth watering- served warm. The beer/cheese sauce that comes with it for an additional couple of bucks is not really worth it. The wursts are not to be missed either! The currywurst was my least favorite, the rest were all delicious!!

Excellent Location; Super Slow Service

By JDB |

Excellent location, very fun beer hall. However, tried ordering some food, there was one guy talking, taking orders, cooking, payment. A one man show. They needed to hire another person, because this was crazy slow, but also very tasty.

Great place to feel like you are in Germany!

By Antonella Lilén S |

I´ve been here too many times and I must say that the different types of beers and sausages are just amazing! It is a very nice place to go with friends and hear good music. I totally recommend to experience this biergarden!

Mushroom Burger!

By Nicole L |

The ambiance of this place is so warm and authentic: super high ceilings with skylights, friendly staff, long wooden benches (sitting next to strangers), huge German beers and delicious food. You can order off the menu or go up to the grill, which is what we always do (pay separately, cash only). Everyone we've brought here has loved it, even our shy friends who don't like crowds. It gets quite crowded and there is often live music, so you should only go when you can handle the noise.

nice place for a pint

By michsally |

really cool place inside. bit hard to hear each other post 10pm if youre with friends. they do hot dogs in an open type kitchen which adds to the atmosphere. worth a visit.

So much fun!

By Robinson1823 |

Wildly popular spot filled with great energy! Friendly and fun-loving crowd. Left off a star because, while the grill guys work hard, the process behind the grill needs better organization and streamlining. A long wait for a weiner.

Great place to gather for Sunday Brunch

By musiciansfam |

Met friends & family here for Sunday brunch. A wide variety of food & drink choices. The blueberry ricotta pancakes were fantastic. Lots of egg dishes (steak & eggs, latkes & eggs, shakshuka), as well as German inspired food. And a huge variety of beers! The live jazz musicians were awesome & created a great fun atmosphere. Very casual & welcoming - good for couples, families with kids, and friends gathering for a relaxing Sunday.

Always a great stop

One of my usual stops for great food, great beer & cocktails and live music. This past Friday was no exception, the schnitzel was delicious as well as the short ribs and chicken! I loved Bad Buka Accoustics, Very lively excellent musicians

Beers and wurst

By KANewYork |

Great place in Williamsburg. Have your ID on you to be let in. Lots of space once you are in. Grab any open table. Quite a few beers on tap and many more bottled.. Make sure you also order a pretzel! The sausages are bough separately. They are delicious!! Efficient waitstaff and runners.

Giant European-style beer hall with great selection

By Daniel O |

Radegast definitely had one of the best beer selections I've ever been, and a nice German food menu. Before this trip, I'd never been to a beer hall like this before (although by the end of the trip, our friends had taken us to several similar venues which seem to be booming in Brooklyn). By mid-afternoon on a Saturday, it was jam-packed, loud and hectic. On the beer hall side, there was live music and table service. We were in a big group, so finding a spot together at the long benches was tough, but with some persistence we got a spot. There was quite a mix of people, young and old (even a few people with their babies, which I thought was odd for a loud beer hall), and a lot of people jockeying and jostling for open spots. Surprisingly, for how big and crowded it was, the service was timely and attentive, although our server in particular wasn't particularly friendly. For the unique experience, though, it was worth the visit.

Super fun place, especially with a group - GLUTEN FREE BEER!

By holly c |

Are your non celiac friends heading to a bar for a big Oktoberfest celebration? Porblem solved. Some call this the best beer hall in NYC. I have not been to too many, because gluten. This one has a nice gluten free beer(Green's) from Belgium. Also wine, a few ciders, and cocktails. But let's face it, who wants to go to a beer hall and not drink beer like everyone else. great atmosphere. Lively and fun. I went with a group of about 10, during the height of Oktoberfest season. We got a nice long table and the vibe could not have been better. As far as food, they do not cater to the gluten free but you could hack something like a cheese plate, steak, or salad. The main thing is to be part of the fun. You may or may not remember the food.

Fun Place

By GLaker |

Maybe it was a gorgeous day in March, or maybe it was the delicious beer, or maybe it was the kielbasa, or maybe it was the others all around having a great time, whatever it was, this is a fun place to go to eat, drink and be merry. This German style beer hall has both the food and brinks to lift anyone's spirits. If you're in Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. make sure you don't pass this place without stopping in.

Great local hangout!

By misse1002018 |

Radagast is a authentic German style beer haus in north Williamsburg Brooklyn. It is a large-open, stylish, modern type of place. They offer live music every gigg which is always great fun also a huge selection of authentic German beer drafts and bottles and the only place in the country to serve a rare German Pilsner🍻😁😍. Besides all of those pluses the food is out of this world! Compliments to chef Mo'een Abuzaid. I really look forward to there Oktoberfest this next few weeks!

Great Time!

By Kathy S |

Robbie the bartender greeted us as we entered the nearly empty bar for lunch on Monday. He spent ample time with us talking beer and made some excellent recommendations. We had a pretzel which was maybe the best pretzel I've ever had while hanging out. Came back the next day for lunch at the grill which was pretty darn good too - kielbasa and fries. Yum.

Good Beer, good sausage

By Ken S |

What more does one need? Radegast offers plenty of beer options, their sausages are very tasty, the thought of their sauerkraut makes me salivate. Beer hall style seating, the cavernous and industrial-looking setting is appealing.

Decent

By Onlyalive8 |

Go for the beer, not the food. The food is over-priced and not the greatest. However, their beer selection is fantastic. A great place to grab a drink with friends!

Trendy place

Typical brewery, good choice of beers Surprising setting in this old candy factory Great atmosphere on concert evenings It’s not the cuisine that makes the place quality Friendly welcome and service

OMG! Worth it!

By Ketsiat |

My friends and I were in search of a brunch place and EGG had a long wait so we fell upon this place. Radegast, where have you been all my life? First of all, everyone had a beer at 11:30 in the morning. I mean, communal seating for brunch at a beer garden? You gotta order some beer...so, I did. The good stuff from a nice menu of imports. Then, brunch. First a pretzel then two eggs over easy, bacon and latkas. I was very happy. Seriously, I've thought about heading back everyday since last Sunday.

Nice Find

By Live_your_experience |

Walking around Williamsburg and we found this place. Very happy we decided to stop in as the bartender was super nice, food and beer was great, and the building had great character. I understand they get extremely busy on weekends, but we were here mid week during the day so we had no issues at the bar. This will be our first stop next time we are in the neighborhood.

What a find!

By lyagirl |

In need of thirst quench! Took family to Williamsburg after walking the Brooklyn Bridge...my husband found this gem, a huge communal hall for eating and beautiful old world bar with so much to choose from! I'm a wimpy beer drinker so I knew there would not be any domestic beer around, I opted for Pear Cider - Yummy!!! They served me the same cider I had in Wales 3 years ago...this will be my summer drink of choice for those hot afternoons. Can't wait to go back for the massive pretzel served with tasty sweet and spicy mustard - get the beer cheese sauce for a couple dollars extra, well worth it!

Oktoberfest!

We were in NYC for the weekend and were brought here to do a quick celebration of Oktoberfest. It was packed but nonetheless, awesome. There food was great and there were several options. I love the look of the place and authentic german attitude! So much fun!

Fun Music, Good Food

By Anthony R |

Who knew you could find an authentic German Biergarten that features live swing jazz in a restored Brooklyn warehouse? I travel to Manhattan often, and have managed to both avoid and underestimate Brooklyn for years. On a recent 3-day stay in the city, Radegast was my reason to cross the bridge and see what's doing. I'm impressed with the progress of the neighborhood, which to some is probably seen as unwelcome gentrification. To the obviously new residents, however, this brand of urban renewal (upscale shops, restaurants, etc.) is a step in the right direction. But I digress. Radegast Hall is a spectacularly designed space, using a combination of reclaimed historic building materials, and cleverly conceived reproductions. Service is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the menu, and for good reason. The German/Austrian inspired food hits all the right notes for a Teutophile like myself. The gold-star extra credit bonus points go to Radegast for not going obvious and having an oom-pah band, but for booking live jazz combos every night of the week. Apparently there is a swing dance society that meets here, and are not shy about literally dancing in the aisles. Can't wait to return!

Your average touristy place

By Watermelon25 |

There are so many nice, welcoming bars in Williamsburg, but this is not one of them... The place is huge and the problem with huge bars most often is that they struggle with character. This is the case here too. Service is very slow but when they finally come and take your order you feel rushed and feel they're annoyed with any question that you may have about the drinks / food. We only stayed for one drink and there's not much else to say about this place really, if you want something charming, go elsewhere, you're likely to find something much better within 100 yards. Might be good for big groups though given it's a huge place.

Authentic Biergarten

By jlipp5240 |

Went here for my sister's birthday...Awesome place! We beat the noontime rush, which made it even better! It has the traditional German Biergarten feel, a mess hall with several long wooden tables that can seat 30+ people at each table. The beers are fantastic, I forget the name of the beer I had, but it was a German stout beer and it was great! The only thing we needed to understand was that the server gave us two menus, one the server would get (and be on the bill), the other (which was mostly the proteins/meat), we had to go to the back counter/cook area to order, and pay for it there separately. That back counter/cook area, the food is cook right there in front of you. Once we understood that, it was easy. FYI - like I said, we beat the noontime rush and the place was somewhat empty and at the back counter/cook area, there were only 2 orders in front of us and it took us about 20-25 mins to get our food from there. I can easily see the back counter/cook area waiting line being very, very long with a full house. By the time we left, it WAS a full house! Beat the noontime and/or dinner time rush, it'll make the experience a lot more enjoyable.

LACK OF SERVICE

By Robyn B |

Had high hopes for this place, heard it was a lot of fun from friends. The space is very charming and a large selection of beers. We visited on a Monday afternoon. The place was not busy, maybe 2-3 other tables. We grabbed and spot and waited to order some beers. And we waited. And we waited. Ordered a couple of beers and requested some waters as well. Beers were both pricey but delicious. Waited 30 minutes to get our tab, waters never arrived. Didn't feel as if they were interested in serving us. Waiter gave excuses that he "didn't see us" and "was in credit card hell." Won't go back. Two stars only for the charming space and quality of beer selection.

Recently, TERRIBLE service!

By MikeyBklyn |

First of all please note, I very RARELY write reviews but being in the customer service industry (front desk manager of a luxury hotel) I felt the need to with this place. Let me start with the positive: -been here about four times and LOVED it. I actually celebrated a birthday here with dinner and beer in November 2012. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and alert every time. The decor and overall look makes it feel very authentic. They have a HUGE selection of beer which you are allowed to sample at the bar. Always had a great experience ever since the first time I came and began bringing large parties of people visiting Brooklyn. NOW the negative: I recently came here with a friend the beginning of October 2013. The guy at the bar seemed bothered by my friend inquiring about the October beer specials and told us we had to go to the other bar in a seperate room to order them. Ok, we go to the other bar and there was no bartender. We then sat ourselves at a table near that bar and sat for about 15 minutes without being aknowledged. I tried flagging down two different waitresses but they could not be bothered. I finally decided to go walk up to them and asked if we were allowed to sit there and they rudely said yes and brushed me off. Another 15 minutes later they came to take our order (eye rolls and all). Now 20 minutes later I was able to see the bartender who was apparantly the only person who could serve us October beers. He was eating at the bar and was also bothered by us asking for a beer. Food came out without silverware. When I asked for a fork, knife, napkins a very rude woman came over with a bucket of abiut 50 sets of silverware nd pushed it on to our table and walked away. Truely the WORST service I have ever gotten, ANYWHERE. These people literally go out of their way to be ruled. It's the whole im too cool for school attitude with everyone in there. ALSO, my sister holds her company party here every year with a party of about 25 real estate executives. Please be advised they do not take reservations which she knows but always arrives early to hold they seats and start ordering appitizera and pitchers for when everyone arrives. I told her to call to double check a fewbthings after this horrible experience I recently had and the girl over the phone gave her the same treatment as me!! Needless to say, she called another place that was more than happy to take her party of 25 which would have been more than a $2, 000 bill. Fantastic job Radegast mangement.

Excellent experience!

By Marlene C |

We walked into this biergarten on a Saturday afternoon, just looking for a place to have a beer. What a pleasant surprise to see a happy, crowded place with a band that played favorites nonstop. If in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, you MUST visit this friendly, popular biergarten. We will return!

Unique (for) New York

By Scott M |

Wow- Radegast was hopping, both in the bar area to the left, and the garage-like space to the right, full of picnic tables and rowdy partiers. We went during the late afternoon on Labor Day weekend, and unlike some other places we stopped, was packed to the gills. They have a large German/Austrian beer selection, with a half-liter and giant liter option. We wanted to get out of the heat, but inside was sweltering. I couldn't believe the two next to us were chowing down on sausages and fries (though it looked good), it was way too hot for that heavy stuff. Had the temp been normal, it would have been fun to hang out there for a few different brews.

They have Weihenstephan beer on tap!

By Chas G |

Went in just wanting to have a beer and a snack..... well, four hours later and several half liter glasses of Weihenstephan Vitus on tap and a large pretzel, all I can say without hesitation is this was one of the best authentic biergarten experiences ever! Been to many a biergarten in Germany and Austria, along with the many Oktoberfest experiences within the states. "This is truly a unique and special place to go!" Everyone was so friendly, from the bartender from Australia, and another from Trinidad/ Tobago ( who would've expected that anywhere else than in Brooklyn NY) to the wait staff taking care of your every need. The food looked and smelled wonderful and the next time I will be sure to try some. A definite happening destination place to go and experience!

Incredible Place, Rude Manager

By Neil A |

I would like to leave a complaint for Manager Peter. He has been surprisingly rude to me when I asked him for help in locating a valuable possession of mine, a gift of a musical instrument of quite some value, which was left in the Hall on Saturday night the 19th of March. He told me to own up to my mistake of losing this( I do) and called me immature and a waste of his time. He said that all the employees time are valuable and that helping me out will mean to waste his and their time, which I understand and so offered to pay whatever recovery fee is appropriate. He got furthermore angry accusing me of blaming the employees of the hall for stealing it. ( completely ridiculous and definitely not my intent) Was it really necessary to become so angry when all I did was ask for his help? I simply wanted to figure out where my bag, which was left at one of the tables in the Hall went... Given that we left at around 1 am on the morning of the 20th this would not be an incredible task, taking up at most 15 minutes or less of simply checking the footage of our group around that time, and would mean so much to me. Meanwhile I have been a patron of the BeerHall over more than a decade bringing countless friends here over the years including a party of more than 20 people there just last week. I guess the money we have paid there hasn't earned us an ounce of respect from him or even simply a common instinct to help another human being much less a loyal patron. I understand if he doesn't want to help but is rude and unprofessional behavior really necessary? He hang up on me twice before allowing me to finish my sentences, asking him for his help and before I could offer to pay for this service of recovering the item. As for all the insults Id like him to know that I am a fireman with the FDNY and risked my life more times than I can count to help people who are total strangers to me and I would still do the same for him, even though he cant offer 15 minutes of his time to help me.

My Kind of Restaurant, Great German Food and Beer

By GrandPaRuss |

Growing up from a German heritage in NYC, there were many German restaurants all over the city. Over the years, they seemed to disappear. We were spending time in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and decided we had to eat at Radegast. We ate lunch there and hopefully soon, we will return for dinner. I travel to Germany a lot and frequent the Hofbrau in Munich. This is a smaller version of the Hofbrau. Started off with a fantastic pretzel and some great mustard. With my family coming from the area just south of Cologne, I have an affinity for Kolsch beer. They had it and it was really good. This place has great atmosphere and must be a real fun place to be at night when they have music.

Disappointing is an understatement

Turned 30 today and flew all the way from London to celebrate with my best friend. We had been recommended and told to try this place out, only to be spoken to like idiots by the manager because I didn't have a physical ID. Even though I had a photo of my passport on my phone, he wasn't interested and he told be to contact the state regarding my ID... what an idiot. No idea what hospitality is all about and America is clearly missing the trick... treat people with respect and not like 19 year old school girls and you will be amazed by the results. #loseralert

Is this on of the halls of Valhalla?

Super fun place! Huge selection of beers and more than a few options for dinner. We came here for late night, so we didn't sample much food - just bar fare. It is such a fun space - obviously a Nordic influence in offerings and design. Give it a visit!

Super fun in winter, not just summer!

Radegast is enormous. The atmosphere is such fun. The food is out of this world. We had the smoked salmon to start with dark bread and the schnitzel. Both absolutely delicious. The schnitzel came with an arugula salad and potato salad. Delish. I ordered the warm red cabbage as a side and it was scrumptious. The beer selections are extensive and my hubby got a liter's worth. I enjoyed a red wine from Austria. The service was attentive and friendly. The recommendations from the server were spot on. This is in the heart of Williamsburg maybe a 7 minute walk from the L train. This is a place to visit and spend hours!

A call for beer

By Phayao13 |

The beer hall is so cool that you want to put it down in parts and transport it home.Gigantic selection, food side a little more spartan. Must pinch me in the arm, otherwise I believe that I have moved to a Central European city in the 30´s.

Great Visit - Celeste was awesome

By sharrongeg |

Such fun! Our server was Celeste and she was awesome. She had wonderful suggestions for 2 small plates. Tried the German potato salad ($7) and the mini pretzel and cheese ($12). Just perfect for 2 adults to share for a late lunch. Of course the beer was fabulous, and I enjoyed a lovely rose’.

Grabbed a beer in the middle of a beautiful day...

By Gaineya |

I'm not an expert on German beers and they have some serious selections. However, the waitress was extremely helpful and gave me terms I could relate too. Amazing biergarten!!! Roof opens up and let's the sunshine in. You have to stop by on an amazing sunny day.

Awfully rude waitress!

By Tim B |

Good food at the grill and also good beer. Service really impacted the experience negatively. I rounded the bill up to tip the service and then was challenged “is there something wrong with the service, I usually expect a 20% tip” I said “no I rounded up and provided what change I had”. The waitress then followed us outside and said “what was wrong with the service?” I replied and said “no, I merely provided what change I had” she then remarked back “well next time maybe go to the grocery store”. This service was extremely rude and ruined the experience which was positive apart from this rude waitress!

I love this place!

By DBMilano |

I love this place ...Radegast has a great selection of beers. The vibe is good both in the large (indoor) beergarden as well as inside by the bar. It's great to chat with the other people sitting next to you ... everyone is very relaxed. No-one takes him/herself serious. I have been a few times and on a few days of the week they also have live music. It's worth checking out the schedule. The food menu was good but not amazing; I absolutely love the bar food section though where they sell sausages and burgers straight from the grill with sauerkraut, fries and a great selection of mustard, etc. ... that tastes absolutely declicious and is very very reasonably priced.

A lot fun in a great spot

Went with a large group and had a great time. Large open space with a good selection of beer. You expect a great pretzel and they have them.

Good meal

Great Beer, Great Burgers

By Alex P |

Excellent beers at this german-style beergarden. It's nice in the summer to take the ferry from Manhattan to the Williamsburg stop and then walk over for some afternoon beers and then dinner. The beers are obviously great, and there is also a menu from the kitchen and a separate grill, which has a menu of its own. The burgers are absolutely awesome, and the house mustard is delicious. Definitely a must.

Taste of Germany on a rainy, cold night

Oktoberfest Was Excellent!!

By jlkkshic |

We Visited during Oktoberfest, and the place was packed! We were able to get a table in the main restaurant at first, as there was no room in the beer hall where the band was. We did move to the beer hall side when we found an opening at one of the communal tables. Service was a little slow, but it was very busy, so that didn't bother us. They offered a limited menu and also different Wurst and sides that you purchased on your own, at one end of the hall. Food was good & beer choices were excellent. The only thing I was disappointed with was the band choice. It was a decent band, but played absolutely no German music! Not even the Prost song, so everyone could toast and sing along. I have been to the Oktoberfest in Munich, and that is one of the highlights of celebration. Perhaps next year they can make sure the band they hire at least learns and plays the traditional Prost toast song!

Don't miss their brunch

By HellsKitchen59 |

This is mostly a party place. And for a party place they have REALLY excellent food. This is the kind of place you go if you want something other than standard-issue bar food with your beers. it's still great bar food, but not just fried beyond recognition. it's a gastropub, I guess. But Radegast's best kept secret is their brunch, which is one of the best in town. (All you suckers waiting hours for Egg up the street....hah!) And I think because everyone thinks of this as a late night beer joint, the brunches are almost empty. You can pick your spot...in the sausage shed, under a skylight, or in a dark quiet booth inside the main room. We've never had a bad brunch there. Service can be a little "iffy" sometimes, as they don't even seem to take their brunch all that seriously. But stretching out is the point of a good brunch, right? People don't go to brunch if they're in a hurry, am I right?

Felt like home

By brewcity77 |

I'm from Milwaukee, where German beer halls are the norm. Radegast Hall would fit right into Milwaukee. Great beer selection, excellent and rich food, and a relaxed vibe where it's easy to sit back and talk with friends. The Chicken Liver Mousse and Bone Marrow were both excellent. Well worth the visit, especially for those who love good beer.

A Trip Back To Old Prussia

By Campodog |

While visiting back home on Long Island, my daughter and her boyfriend insisted on bringing me here knowing my love of good beer. Those children were raised right! I was thoroughly impressed with the Radegast. Having a designated driver, I was free to sample from the huge selection of tap and bottled libations. I drank, in order, a Hofbrau Dunkel, Krusovice Imperial, Sinebrychoff Imperial Porter, and a Weihenstephan Vitus. All absolutely fresh and delicious. Service at the large, rectangular bar was courteous and quick. The main room is decorated with various photographs and artifacts from the old country giving it a very authentic feel. A framed photo of the Kaiser and Otto Von Bismarck sparked a lively conversation with my adult children that I'm still smiling about. The adjacent biergarten houses a tremendous barbeque grill featuring every type of German and Eastern European sausage you could thing of and more cooked to perfection and served at rough hewn wooden picnic type tables. We also nibbled on some wild game pierogi and tasty mini potato pancakes with homemade red cabbage. All superb. The next time I'm back in New York I will certainly make sure to visit again. Highly recommended!

Ein Prosit in Brooklyn

By PopeBiff |

Friendly staff and great beer. All in a large and beautiful beer hall. Tasty brews on tap to be had. Prices are competitive by NYC standards. Didn't have the food. Corey was a really friendly and attentive bartender. They had music by a live Dixieland band, they were excellent.

Fun place with great beer and service

By Karma Eventyr |

I came here upon recommendation when I was visiting New York with a group of friends. When we entered the atmosphere was fun and lovely with the look and feel of a German beer house mixed slightly with a cool Brooklyn touch. The beer and drink selection was very good and though we didnt each much we did order some fries which were lovely. When we were in there the music that was played was very charming and the service was equally great (some of the waitresses could carry 6 steins at a time!!! - so impressive). I would definitely return!

Very cool Biergarten in Brooklyn in a historic warehouse.

Never would have tried this place nor found it were it not for my nephew that brought us here for lunch. Absolutely incredible in side. Just beautiful. Awesome beer and wine selection. Lunch menu is really good with a great selection of different German sausages. I tried the chicken plum tomato, husband got the Easter(pork) and my nephew got a pork and veal(think) sausage that had the consistency of a smooth hot dog. We all shared them so we could try each other's. They were all excellent and huge portions! I'm not usually a sauerkraut fan but, this was THE BEST sauerkraut I've ever had. It was delicious! I couldn't eat all of mine but the guys finished theirs and the rest of mine. I would absolutely in a minute go back here again. Now, I personally think that they should make an effort to develop a sampler plate with even a 1/4 sausage of several different types. There were a bunch I wanted to try but the servings are so large there is no way you could eat it once you add the fries. I was told that there is a band at night too.
