Enjoyed our visit to Ragun Cajun this week with many seafood choices! We selected fried shrimp and fried oysters served with sides of fries and hush puppies! The food was fresh and very tasty! No crowds mid-afternoon, so we took our time looking at the menu! We've enjoyed this venue many times in the past and I hope many more times in the future!

I purchased food from Ragin' Cajun and I was not at all impressed with the food, I have eaten here in the past and the food was much better then than it is now I ordered a fried shrimp po-boy along with french fries and I have to admit I was highly disappointed with my food, the po-boy was about five inches long for $13.00 the shrimp were so greasy that I couldn't enjoy and the fries were not all that either, if you have the choice please skip this place I don't know if the restaurant is under new management however the food has really went down big time.

I was so disappointed when I went to this place. The place is cute but the food was just not good at all. I have had several people to tell me to check it out and I won't ever go back.

Ate there while on business based on a recommendation due to my penchant for all things seafood. Ordered a platter with a fish fillet, shrimp and oysters. Cost me $20 and the biggest item was the fish and that's saying A LOT. Also ordered the driest bread pudding I've ever had in my entire life which was given to me a'la mode with ice cream instead of sauce that would have helped with the dryness. Could only eat 3 bites b4 I conceded. Entire meal cost me $29. I detest wasting money, especially when there are hungry people in the world. Never again will I eat her, OR recommend it to anyone. Should've stuck to Boudreaux's.

As allways the crawfish and boiled blue crab are the best in the state. Their boil is rich, thick, peppery solution that sticks to your mudbugs and crab. It makes your nose run, lips burn just a little but this is my #1 place in the USA for crawfish! No joke! Please make a note that valuables should not be left in car. Thieves have and will bust your lock, take your laptop from your car/truck. Come on down though and enjoy great service in the Oyster Bar. Sit down and enjoy full service dining or walk up to window in main reataurant for a more casual atmosphere without bar service.

I haven't been to the Richmond location in years. The bar area is a nice addition and the restaurant area has not changed. Friday night around 7:00 and there was no line. My date and I both ordered the soft shell crab po-boys. Two crabs per each po-boy, one with fries and mine with hush puppies. The crabs were cooked right, no hint of any toughness, and nicely seasoned. The hush puppies were exceptionally good, the right size for dipping and not feeling bad about ordering this carb delight. The crowd picked up and as I remembered was a great one for people watching. The two dinners ($16.00 each) and one St. Arnold's Amber came to $39.78. Not cheap eats not not really mid-range. I like the atmosphere here better than the one in Sugar Land. Definitely try it!

I am so happy to say that I found a Houston restaurant that serves barbecued crab. It is seasoned with barbecue sauce and then fried. It is outstanding. The order comes with three blue crabs, fries, and puppies. The bread pudding was also scrumptious. Only the original location on Richmond has the barbecued crab. Worth a drive for sure.

Think twice. Expensive, tiny portions and missing advertised items. Be worn when you question it's the customer who is last. Missing hush puppies from order...it is obvious on plate and the waiter just kept pointing that they were there. Hilarious might have been helpful if there wasn't a language barrier.

It is hell to find a parking place. It is off the main area on Richmond close to the Galleria but well worth the hassle. You have to walk to the window and place your order then they call your number and you pick it up at the other window. It has picnic tables so you sit where ever you want but it will be by someone you don't know probably. the food is amazing and served on news papers ,you fill your own drinks and get your own condiments . Sounds a little like a dive , but you will be back over and over again.

Went here last Friday and came back again Saturday for the Chargrilled Oysters. They were pretty good and probably the best you can get in Houston. The only downside is they are kinda expensive though.

This is an old favorite -- their BBQ blue crabs in season are worth the 45-mile trip we make to get here.

This is a restaurant you go to eat at. No fancy tablecloths or bathrooms. This was Cajun food without being drowned in spices. Hushpuppies were perfect. Chicken fingers and sausage were excellent. The crawfish with potatoes and corn on the cob were exactly as they should be. Nice party room. Good service. Good wine. Good beer. Good food.

I went to the rage in cages just to check out whether or not they had scallops but what I saw the alligator I had to order. I got a couple plate with a side of alligator edler soup sampler that allowed me to taste each of the soups gumbo etouffee and I really really loved it. That was 15 set of sauces he had gold it browed fried perfection that I'll come back for again and again. Maybe you prefer a fantastic Lousianna Po'Boy with Shrimp? Rajon Cajun Has it All. Down Home Delicious!

I am surprised at all of the four and five star reviews. Our experience was different and I am being somewhat generous with two stars. We haven't been to Ragin Cajun on Richmond for a long, long time. What we found was that the quality which had been good morphed to poor. The seafood gumbo was mediocre at best, the crawfish etouffee was heavy on the rice and light on the crawfish and lacked flavor, the bacon wrapped shrimp were okay. All-in-all is was a less than pleasant experience and, unless we were there on a uniquely bad night, it is adios to Ragin Cajun.

Parking was an issue. So that doesn't help usually on first impressions. The inside is like your local neighborhood bar scene withe cafeteria (Luby's) type seating and not so great wipe down sessions after from one customer to another. Great place to meetup with plenty friends and the food smells and taste pretty good. Plenty of people with crawfish buckets, so i will conclude that they have pretty good crawfish. I stopped by on a friday night where i met up with about 15 friends or so. There was a decent crowd in attendance. Not sure how the rrest of the week or weekends are but I wouldn't doubt full capacity crowds atthis place. over all fun and get the job done.

Once again I will tell you that the boiled crawfish and blue crab here are the best in the USA. I challenge anybody to dispute this. I have travelled to NOLA lots and they have no dog in this hunt.

We were in Houston 2 nights and both nights we ate a Ragin'Cajun! Very casual eating but so very good! Both night we had the same menu, raw oysters, oyster Mardi Gras, a link of boudin (for my husband) and boiled crawfish! The second night I also indulged in an order of beignets. Yummy!

Stopped in and had a couple of beers. Nice and COLD on a hot July evening. Always heard to not eat oysters on the half she'll in the summer but happy hour price made me give in. Staff shucked them right in front of me and they were awesome. Next, I tried the Cajun BBQ fried blue crab. yes, fried! It was not bad. Different. I still like my Chesapeake Bay blue crabs, steamed, better, but these were good! George was a great bartender and I cannot wait to visit this place again. Laid back and great.

We stopped in here for a late lunch on our way through Houston. Great variety of good, quality food. I had the Buffalo Crawfish salad,& my son had the Crawfish poor boy - both great! The side of grits & honey cornbread nothing to brag on. Both pretty bland. Grits not served very warm/hot and plain. Cheese & butter would have been a nice touch.

This is my first time having crawfish and I would say it is awesome. It was spicy and full of flavour making me wanting to keep having more. Will definately visit again!

Our first time here and were pleasantly impressed. Cool atmosphere, very friendly staff and great food!! I had the fried Craw fish, and my wife had the fried blue crab. It was very good, but difficult to eat. Will come again!

Amazing place to taste the real LA cuisine. Went there many times and tried different stuff. I loved everything!!! Also staff is amazing and they have great beer too!

We LOVE blue crabs so decided to try them here. What a disappointment! Not seasoned well, they were tiny so not much meat and they were pretty expensive. One small piece of corn was included and it was overcooked and just so-so taste wise. Two small red potatoes were also included and they, too, were disappointing. Definitely wouldn’t go back. Save your money for a better experience.

This place is great for lunch. No frills, good seafood in a city of good seafood. Informal as hell and worth a trip with friends or co-workers.

I visited family over spring break and since it was crawfish season I wanted to have some while I was in town. This place is amazing. Half is self serve and the line went all the way to the door - we knew we were at the right place! The other side has seated tables which is where we decided to sit. Our server was awesome and helped my non-seafood-eating family members choose options. The crawfish came in a bucket and were spicy and delicious. I also had the hush puppies which were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and totally awesome. The atmosphere was fun and loud, the food was awesome and I will definitely be back when I am back in Houston!!!

Stopped in here for a late lunch and found myself in the wonderful situation of there being so many yummy options on the menu, i had a hard time choosing. Service was good and quick (we did come at the end of the lunch period to avoid a rush). Food was excellent. Great balance of spice and wonderful seafood!

My first dinner when I get to Houston is Ragin Cajun! I love love love their crawfish! I always have a dozen oyster on the half shell or their oysters Mardi Gras. I have been going for the past 12 years and I have never been disappointed.

months ago so I guess u can sat this is a update so-to-speak of that experience. Again very good food but expensive for this type of cuisine but it's still worth the extra cost. So when I was here three months ago I posted that the dining area was cluttered with dirty dishes as the dining room staff played on their cell phones. I was assured by the person that responds to the reviews that it shouldn't have happened and he personally spoke with "Diego" and told him that was unacceptable blah blah etc. well this is my first evening visit back since then and guess what? Dirty dishes everywhere and the dining staff constantly on their cell phones (see attached pics). These photos were taken over the 40-45 mins I was there so they aren't "back to back" pics. When I left the main phone abuser was kicked back on the patio having a phone conversation....and yes half eaten food and dirty dishes everywhere. I was asked to call and ask for Shelby Roberts if I saw something like this again. I called while I was there and was put on eternal hold, after 8 mins 35 seconds I hung up and left. Again I will note that when Luke is there you don't see this nonsense, I guess it's just poor management when the cats away...as the old saying goes, the mice will play

Excellent Po'Boys, and if you can get there during blue crab season (near Labor Day), DO IT! Conveniently, there is a handwashing station in the main dining room.....you're gonna need it!

Stopped in for the oysters and stayed for a meal. Hubby was craving a dozen oysters at the 3:00pm special price of $9.95/ dozen and was delivered a baker's dozen of large, fresh, succulent oysters that were beautifully plated on ice and served with plenty of garnish. I ordered a shrimp appetizer served in an excellent, spicy, Cajun sauce with a nice hunk of crusty toasted artisan bread to mop up every drop of the sauce. While hubby ordered another dozen oysters, again delivering a baker's dozen, I opted for a slice of pecan pie with vanilla ice cream, which was excellent again, not overly sweet as I often find, rather truly a home made delicate pie, filled with flavor and pecans and served warm with a high quality vanilla ice cream. I wish we had known about this restaurant earlier in our trip. It is flawlessly clean, with visible, active management, well-trained servers, and a clear pride in the job is sensed from each employee. Diners have the option to order at a counter on one side while in the bar, diners can be waited on. I even liked the sports on TV in the bar area because they were left on mute.

Really good chargrilled oysters! Also had the half shrimp poboy and cup of seafood gumbo. The poboy was good (great shrimp) but the cocktail sauce was a little overpowering; I would get it on the side next time. Gumbo was okay. I would come again just for the oysters!

accommodating service-as far as shifting sides, all good, fried oysters and very good slaw and hush puppies, a down home funky, noisy happening place but the food is fast and delicious

Came here with local friends and had oysters alone for lunch. Delicious! Great service in a casual ad relaxed atmosphere

Sorry that I cannot comment on the various items on the menu ~ all I have eaten here are the crawfish, salads, corn bread and the Red Beans and Rice. I admit that I am totally addicted to their Red Beans and Rice! No cup for me! I want the BOWL with cheese and onions and corn bread and then leave me alone to savor! Crawfish are great, and not too spicy. This is the original location I believe, and we like sitting in the 'service' area where it is a bit more intimate and cozy. All employees are great! We have broken in one granddaughter so far, she loves it here. Only downside that I can think of is that the bathroom is very small and right off the kitchen door so you have to pay attention.

If you get in through the door at the right, you will see a sea of people jostling to get a spot on long benches, buckets of crawfish and shrimps disappearing quickly. You place your order at the counter, pick up your order and grab a seat wherever you can. Gregarious gourmands. If you rather prefer the privacy of a table, go through the door on the left. Someone will take your order promptly. Helps if you know a bit of Español. My half-a-dozen Gulf Coast Oysters in half-shell were so fresh, I didn’t have to use the horseradish and pepper dip that came with them on a bed of ice. A dash of fresh lemon was more than what you will need. As fresh as you get them. A mix of large and medium. The Shrimp and Crab Gumbo was dark and peppery, lots of shrimp, a bit of crab. But I am not complaining. I opted for ranch dressing for my Buffalo Crawfish Salad. A quarter pound of fried tails tossed in buffalo sauce and spread over a bed of crisp lettuce. I found the buffalo sauce a bit too sour for my liking. If that’s not your favorite, go for the Creole mustard dressing. I will do that the next time I am in town. A hearty lunch under $40 is worth going back for.

i take large groups here am never disappointed. the food is good the beer is good and the service is good as we sit on the service side. if you save room the bread pudding is suitable for sharing.

The Shrimp and Oysters are so Fresh and Clean Tasting. I really enjoy their food and the atmosphere for football games.

I like the concept, really friendly and super good food! we had crawfish, which was delicious, I loved the boudin balls. The po boys was good too!

It was my first time to try the crawfish... The place is authentic, nice environment and packed. We enjoyed the shrimps, the crawfish and the oysters...

We went here at the advice of a local for crawfish. Thankfully it is the time of the year for fresh crawfish. I had a 2 pound order and added a sausage, potatoes and corn to the order. The crawfish boil was excellent and the sausage was good. I will say this place had a very wide range of NOLA foods. I can say this is a place you have to try if in town!

We had a really good time eating here for lunch! We ate in the Oyster Bar side. I'm not a seafood person so I had a cheeseburger and fries which were both good. My boyfriend had a half bucket of crawfish and shrimp. We had them make it super spicy and it was! It was kinda of expensive much more than when we were in Louisiana but it was fun and very good. We will be back! And our waitress was awesome! She showed us her way of peeling the crawfish and told us about some sights around town.

This restaurant is fabulous. We started with boudin balls and stuffed jalapeños as appetizers. Our main meal were crawfish ettouffee and spaghetti and meatballs. The Cajun sauce was top notch. The manager and wait staff are friendly and efficient. Highly recommend.

Great and generous portions of food are being served here in a nice environment, a full bar and not too noisy considering the numbers of people being served and eating. I was in town on business and two of my company's vendors recommended this place for us to meet and eat. I was beyond pleased with everything about this place. It reminded me of being in Louisiana.

We ate here with a group of friends. It’s not fancy so go as you are. I chose a small order of Gulf Fried Shrimp and subbed onion rings for the fries. Hushpuppies were delicious. The food is good. There were about 12 or 13 of us and our waiter was excellent. He was accurate and fast and available. It was fun and I would like to go back when in Houston.

This was my first trip to Houston and also my first crawfish experience. It was DELICIOUS! If you like seafood, you'll like crawfish. I'm a huge lobster fan being from the northeast and crawfish reminded me of mini lobsters. The seasoning they're boiled with is tasty and if you like spice add some SLAP YA MAMA! seasoning to your melted butter. I wasn't daring enough to suck the head, maybe next time! We went at the beginning of crawfish season (end of Feb/March). I thought the crawfish were pretty descent in size but was told they get bigger since peak season is April/May, the season ends in June. Apparently this is because the crawfish are hard and it's not easy to peel and eat them. They're also not as fat so you don't get as much meat. My fiance and I loved it so much we're planning an order on-line for mid May so we can have a Crawfish Boil Party!

In the 80's and 90's this place was smoking hot...delicious food, generous portions and easy on you wallet for what you got. I had not been there in at least 10 yrs until recently I got a craving for an oyster po-boy. I walked in and placed an order to-go for the poboy and bowl of gumbo. No menu offered as i walked up to the bar and ordered. There were only 2 customers there. To my SHOCK.....my bill was basically$39.00!! That couldn't be right!! I saw they charged $22 for the po-boy sandwich which seemed outrageous...it had to be a mistake. But no. I was told it was correct because oysters are high right now! I never would have ordered it if I knew how crazy the price was. This is oyster season...ive never paid for a poboy that high! When I complained that they should inform people if a price hike is out of whack especially if the customer was not given a menu...and the guy said "Most people don't care. And when I mention it they feel insulted as though we think they can't afford it" !!!!! Then he told me a story about Hennessey liquor costing $14 a shot and people still want it! I was so angry. The bread was the best part of the sandwich. It had minimal sauce, and even less lettuce. The few oysters on it were all in only 1/2 the sandwich which they cut in half. The other half was fresh bread with minimal flavor from the miniscule sauce and lettuce...without one oyster!!!! I'm especially made I paid a tip making this horrible experience a $46 mistake and RIPOFF. Never again!

I found the gumbo to be on of the better versions in Houston. Nice rich redux. The beans and rice are well seasoned and cooked to the proper consistency. Shrimp and oysters are delicious. Good service and fair pricing. A good lunch spot.

I don't do spicy food and I got adventurous and had some gumbo. Wow! It was spicy alright! Authentic food which is great if you enjoy it. I ended up switching with my husband halfway though and had his red beans and rice. He had added spicy seasoning AND hot sauce and they still weren't as spicy as my gumbo!

No, you are a lover of good old down home Cajun food! If you want the feel of the South and some finger lickin’ good chow pull up a chair and dig-in this is the place. Server are a delight, helpful, and very attentive. Meals are cocked just right and the prices won’t have you run screaming into the parking lot. Plus you meet some very nice folks here while enjoying mug bugs and other Cajun specialties!

I have enjoyed so many items at Ragin’ Cajun. It was one of my father’s favorite restaurants. The oysters are delicious and I love the gumbo. Also, the crawfish, potatoes, and boiled corn are really yummy. The po-boys are really good also. I ordered some French bread toasted and was disappointed that it was not like a French baguette but some American style loaf. I will not order that again.

The Ragin Cajun on Richmond Ave. converted me from a non-cajun fan to a Louisiana cuisine lover. Edgar, in the "Oyster Bar", took the time to teach me how to eat crawfish. When I'm not ordering fresh boiled crawfish, I love the Buffalo Crawfish Salad (it is less salad and more crawfish.) Their Boudin, seafood and Crawfish Balls are amazing - and the remoulade sauce adds the perfect touch. You can't go wrong here!

Drove 300 miles to visit the greatest city..Houston and what do i find? The most relaxing seafood joint...the best part is that my dogs were welcome as well. Met friends..had cold beer and the best bbq crabs and shrimp. The welcoming experience is very important to me, and it is obvious that Ragin Cajun values it as well.

Always a favorite when I come to Houston. The shrimp poboy is very good. The boudin is authentic and the boiled crawfish is well seasoned. I will continue to return.

This place is casual, customer service is very laid back, restrooms are clean and plenty of parking I'm not a crawfish lover so I asked for grilled salmon and it was vey delicious , my rice was great and my steamed vegetables super just little portion in my opinion for that price I won't give it five just cause they brought my wife's food 10 minutes after my food and it was uncomfortable to eat before her other than that all perfect and highly recommended.

My friend wanted to go to this restaurant. When we pulled up, I was not looking forward to it because I wondered how they could have really great and true Cajun food in Houston. But as it turns out, apparently the owner is from Louisiana and the restaurant really has great food and a great menu. From the outside, the place doesn't look like much. It is in an area of Houston where there is a lot of new construction among really old buildings like this restaurant is housed in. When I walked in, I instantly felt at home. The inside looks very similar to the great Cajun restaurants in Southern Louisiana with a cool atmosphere. I had grilled gulf coast shrimp and we shared an order of char grilled oysters. My friend had a fish dish. We both loved everything we had. They had great cocktail offerings and surprisingly, they also had a great wine list. I would recommend that if people who live or are visiting in Houston and will be in the vicinity of this restaurant not to skip over it because of the exterior. It is, in my opinion, authentic Cajun food and their seafood is clearly fresh. The service was OK, but not spectacular, but it was a busy night and our waiter was very kind. We ended up having a great evening and were stuffed when we left.

Wife and ordered po boys and thet were great. Clean restaurant great staff and service. Would suggest anyone to come here for a southern experience. Well priced as well.

Living in Houston, I would have thought we would get by here more but there are so many places to eat. Happened to be driving by and thought we would check it out. Food has usually been pretty good and it still is; pretty good. I'm not a big fan of all the fried stuff, I like broiled better so maybe I'm a little one sided anyway. I had the shrimp po'boy and wife had fried shrimp. Might come back.

we've always gone here for the boiled crawfish. Has been consistenly the same , great recipe for years. BUT went here recently, and the recipe seems to have changed. Crawfish were still tasty but definitely prefer the original seasoning. service is always great.

My husband and I visited Ragin Cajun on a Saturday night when we both were craving a Cajun meal. The restaurant was busy but not packed. Service was fairly slow, but our waitress was very nice and friendly. I chalked the slow service up to the time of day. We started with the Natchitoches meat pies and they were very good. Hubby had the blackened catfish with seasoned vegetables and potatoes. I had the shrimp scampi spaghetti and it was excellent. We also tried the seafood gumbo, which was very good but slightly salty for our taste. Overall we enjoyed ourselves and will try Ragin Cajun again.

My family makes an annual trip to Houston for the Rodeo and Livestock Show and part of that annual trip is to visit the Ragin Cajun. We love the laid back atmosphere and the food is always excellent. The Bucket of Crawfish (3.5 pounds) is a favorite of ours. The crawfish étouffée is always great too. The self service isn't something I love, so we always try to get in the very small full service section but that's not always an option. This place is always busy, but always worth the wait. I can't wait to go back next year!

This was my first visit to Ragin Cajun. This is authentic Cajun food. I ordered the Chicken & Sausage Jambalaya with hush puppies, brownie, and sweet tea. The jambalaya was a very large portion, hot, tasty, and delicious! The hush puppies (6) are the real hush puppies (not the sticks called hush puppies) and they were delicious as well. The sweet tea was just about perfect. The brownie was large, thick, moist, and tasty. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They also have two dining rooms- one for table service and one for counter service. The service was fast and friendly. The prices are reasonable especially given the portion sizes. This is a great place to kick your Cajun cravings.

I've been coming here since pre-1980 (high school) and back when it was a different name, but the quality has always been top notch. It's very casual, there used to be a jukebox that only payed Cajun music but I think it is gone now. My favorite meal is the Shrimp Po-Boy, they managed to get the hardest part right, the po-boy bread, but all of it is great. The boiled crawfish are expensive and a little overcooked so that the meat doesn't slide right out of the shell but I've never found a restaurant, even in Louisiana, that could get that part right. Everything is spiced correctly, they don't make the mistake of believing that Cajun means hot. The Ragin' Cajun is a must for my family every time we are in the area.

Grab a bucket with your friends. You'll be glad you did! Oh, and the BBQ Shrimp and Mardi Gras oysters are incredible! Get a side salad and you'll have a really "healthy" Cajun feast!! The location on Richmond is the first, the BEST, and the most memorable. Visited by dignitaries, politicians, sports figures, ladies in pink hats, high school and college fraternities, sororities, sports teams, church groups, and the occasion lone (but not for long!) diner. THIS PLACE IS AN INSTITUTION!! Plan on getting "messy!" Never had a crawfish before? No problem! This is the place to learn! You can sit inside or outside. Or even take your goodies home. Just go. Your taste buds will be glad you did.

Had very good take out from Ragin' Cajun. The Buffalo crawfish salad was very flavorful and loaded with crawfish. Also had some gumbo which was very good. I'll give a Po Boy a shot next time.

Took hubby to the RC for dinner. We ordered: A adozen raw oysters = they were very fresh, not overly rinsed, and the horseradish was yummy. Jalapenos poppers = the taste was very good, but were so tiny. A poor value for money. Crawfish: excellent seasoning. My only complaint is that it's too much work to eat those things, ha ha. The sides such as the corn and potatoes such be included with the crawfish, and not charge separately. Other equally good restaurants include corn, potatoes and sausage. The waitstaff is friendly.

This place wasnt worth the hype. This was my first visit to the Richmond location. I wasnt aware of the two dining options. The cashier stated that she couldn't void the transaction and we could just sit on the other side for dining experience. I was then met by a rude older man. The waiters never came to service our table. I wasnt impressed by the food or taste. They had crawfish which were still small. The chargrilled oysters texture was slimy. It's safe to say I wont return.

Great food snd even better service such a great find. If you are looking for spicy steamed shrimp this this the place

This place is amazing. Our baby shower for my son was perfect location and pricing. The staff was so kind. We’ll be back for another party. Thank you guys. This day was so special.

Have been eating here on Richmond st. since 1974 and it is consistently excellent, with mouth watering po-boys, mufalottas, red beans, dark roux gumbo, ettoufee', boudain, bread pudding and more! The atmosphere is south Louisiana with a dash of Houston, and prices are fair. A party room & a table service room have cozier seating for couples but the center has the LSU games on the video and tables for crawfish shucking. One of my favorites for singles, couples, bring the kiddies & grandma, too!

Two buckets of crawfish and snow crab excellent, great service and beer. Brilliant location and a tub of Slap ya Mamma spice to take back to the UK. Definitely worth a return visit.

My husband was looking forward to the start of crawfish season and this was his first bucket of joy! He liked the seasoning, the meatiness of each critter and the sausage was good too. I on the other hand chose the grilled shrimp. I was not a fan. My shrimp came out cold with a side dish of over cooked veggies and cold red potatoes. I also ordered a drink which was their version of a “hurricane”; this was not pleasing either. It tasted like unmixed red powder but at least it had a kick to it. Not likely to return.

During COVID, they were hunkered down and 1/2 open. But now back up and running. I had some seafood gumbo & jalapeno cornbread - tasty as always.

I can at the end of happy hour. 5 dollar frozen margaritas are amazing! Our waitress was sweet and attentive. She gave us all types of suggestions on what to get and made us feel at home. The food came out, and the seasoning was on point. I got the crab and shrimp gumbo. It had a decent amount of shrimp and crab, and you MUST get a piece of French bread with it. It was worth it!. The red beans and rice was amazing, bits of sausage and rice at the bottom. Not too much not to little. Both entrees were perfectly spicy and gave a nice heat, that wasn't uncomfortable. When you are going to the restroom, there are numerous articles on the wall describing the history of this restaurant and the connection with the modern day Carrabba's. I will be returning here next time I am in Houston!!!

It is to real Cajun food what Taco Bell is to real Mexican food. Lots of loud Zydeco music to make it seem authentic, but not much else beyond all the memorabilia on the walls. There are much better choices in the Houston area. Sadly, just not in this part of town.

Excellent fried oysters, shrimp, and catfish. Sides are mediocre. Friendly staff. Television turned to sporting events.

This is the place - everything you want that's Cajun! That's about all I can say. I have never been disappointed! Very relaxed atmosphere with friendly people and some great oysters, crawfish, and gumbo I have ever had! We'll be back again & again!

What a messy delight this places was. George was our server and he was amazing and really turned this 4 star experience into 5 stars!!

Had a combination of fried shrimp, oysters and gumbo! All was well prepared and delicious. The counter service was efficient and friendly! Do your self a favor and get you inner Cajun on here with a wide variety of menu items!

The fried shrimp were very good and the dirty rice as well. I had grilled vegetables and they were excellent. The only drawback is the price. High price for a lunch. Laid-back atmosphere

Wasn't impressed, left much to be desired. My grandparents are from Louisiana and I've definitely had better. I got the chicken and sausage gumbo. The chicken was dry and the rice was either old or overcooked. The cornbread was good. We had boudain balls for an appetizer and they were a bit spicy but bland. Service was good and nice atmosphere.

Food cajun food. Mudbugs are tasty. I like the gumbo. Muffaleta is really authentic. Busy place. Casual. Reasonable. Oyster bar and beer.

Casual, fun dining experience. This was my first time eating Cajun food. Our group tried the fried crawfish, BBQ shrimp, fried shrimp, fried oysters, fried catfish, and shrimp & grits. Everyone enjoyed their food. I found the cocktail sauce to be spicier than I like, but the others loved the heat. Our waitress, Jo, was fantastic! She made the entire dining experience more fun. She was funny, attentive, and so friendly! This is clearly a local favorite. We heard it has been around for over 40 years! I can't imagine anyone being disappointed by a meal here. The portion are large. The food is fresh and the prices are reasonable.

Good relaxed environment. Awesome food. Had crawfish and Boudin balls. Separated into a dinning area and bar, the dinning area allows you to walk up and order, but the sit down service area was in the bar

Had 1/2 dozen of grilled oysters, so I thought this evening. There was only 5. She came to the table to inquire about our dinning experience. I informed her about the one less oyster. She apologized and brought back 2 plump grilled oysters. I put the crackers on it. Thank you Ragin' Cajun

This place closes early doing the week so we arrived late. The servers were very nice and friendly. The food omg I had oysters they were almost excellent a little to much salt on my second dozen but they were so good I went pass the salt. See ya soonest

Used to come here a couple of times a year when craving Cajun but haven't been here for over a year. Boudin balls had a consistency of a paste breaded with an awful, thick white-yellow crusty breading. Red beans and rice tasted like out of a can with a few sausage slices added. My wife had the fried shrimp that were very small, heavily breaded with the same hard white-yellow breading. Prices are high for what it has become. Must be new owners or left alone with no management.

Crawfish and anything else you can think of that would make a Cajun happy. It's all good! Great atmosphere for what you're there for- some darn good food!

Crawfish season has started. My husband says they are small but good ! I had the fried shrimp with fries and hush puppies, good stuff. Well worth the drive.

It's a neighborhood joint. The gumbo, poor boys and boudin are worth going for. The LA Bar, attached, is sit down and a little more fancy. Lots of folk go here for the boiled crawfish. Get a shrimp poor boy and a Barqs.

Came here for dinner with my fiance. The decor is full of New Orleans/Louisiana items so being from New Orleans, I enjoyed that and felt at home. There are TVs to watch sports. You order at the counter and they call your number to get your food. I got the shrimp scampi which was pretty good. I give it a 7 out of 10. The hush puppies had a nice spice to them. I rated this average because it was. Nothing to rave about but it wasn't terrible either. Overall I enjoyed it and would go back again for a casual dinner.

I love the shrimp and crawfish gumbo at Ragin Cagin. It is always tasty and has nice amounts of shrimp. My husband enjoyed the chicken gumbo and a guest liked the étouffée. This restaurant always has a steady stream of customers enjoying their specials and their regular menu items. We also enjoyed the French bread toasted and buttered plus the grits.

I am not a crawfish fan always, but today they were big and spicy. And the oysters on the half shell were huge and tasty, too! No frills, but good food and good services. A little more expensive that some places but the food was good. One of our favorite crawfish restaurants in Houston.

I always love restaurants that know what they can do, know what they can prepare and do not try to deviate. They prepare their offerings well. This is Ragin Cajun (Original). We were there in March 2017 with children, to try the crawfish (in season) dishes. It is an experience, shucking or breaking these mini/tiny-lobster like creatures and get the meat inside. It is entertaining. The dishes are simple, but ALL GOOD...we were five and we tried different things. Go there to get filled. It is a place to be with friends and enjoy a moment.

Ragin Cajun remains this dilapidated group of huts next to the railway. It has expanded a bit by taking over the space next door, but the interior remains unchanged: gaudy, cheezy, with the walls full of old posters, photos, ads, etc. You order and pay and your order is called out by the number. The highlight (at least in season) is the boiled crawfish. It is tasty, a bit spicy, delicious and satisfying. It is served in plastic buckets placed on plastic trays and a sheet of paper towel or similar absorbing material. it comes with boiled corn, potatoes and you eat it with your hands, and by using a combination of the sauces and spices that are placed on each table. Certainly as informal as a meal can be. They also offer a delicious gumbo, soft shell crab (in season), boudin, grilled oysters, fried crawfish tails, buffalo wings, stuffed jalapenos, Jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, sandwiches, etc. A few classical cocktails, Martinis, beer and a few wines by the bottle are also available. It is a great place for a family meal or an outing with friends. For what you get, the price is right. This is down to earth food and worth the visit.

It's hard to describe the atmosphere in this place - ultra casual doesn't quite do it. I was there with a large business group and we had a great time. The crayfish (in many forms) were enjoyed by our group (I didn't have any) and many people thought they were fantastic. The drinks were cold and plentiful and the staff very friendly and fast. It's really a different experience and worth checking out.

Great Cajun atmosphere! I love Boudin, so I had to try the Boudin Balls. They were fried to perfection, but the boudin wasn't as spicy as I prefer. Great fried shrimp!

I came for lunch as part of a large party. There were about twelve of us, which seemed to be a bit too much for the staff to handle. Our waiter did the best that he could, and he was very personable. I believe his name was Jose (married and wears glasses). When there was an error on my bill, he fixed it right away. I ordered the frozen hurricane, as well as the fried crawfish. I substituted extra hush puppies for the fries. Everything was good except for the hush puppies. I'm used to them being a little sweeter. I would definitely return to this location.

There's nothing fancy about Raj Cajun - it's all out front for the customer to see. Plenty of boiled and fried shrimp, fresh oysters, gumbos, catfish and other Gulf seafood. Simply prepared and nicely served. Order, pay wait to be called, pick up your order and dig in. Have always enjoyed the seafood gumbo, deep rich roux and not too spicy. Half shell oyster are usually market priced and deliciously fresh; and the oyster or shrimp po boy sandwiches are plenty for a lunch or regular meal. Raj Cajun is friendly staff and good value, too.

Not fancy but still pretty good. Order at the counter and wait for number to be called for food pick-up. Our food came out fairly quickly. I noticed that staff cleared and cleaned tables in a very fast manner. Didn't try any Crawfish, but the Catfish was outstanding. Would be interesting to visit during Mardi Gras and/or crawfish season. Only thing missing (among the large display of college football helmets) was a The Ohio State University hwelmet!!!!!!

Well I ordered the snow crab legs as predicted and my son couldn't decide exactly what he wanted to try ,so he got the barbecue crabs.. and we got a bowl of gumbo also. When we were served we ate and couldn't get enough of the barbecued crabs.... so I ordered another batch for him and I ordered two deserts and they were great.. If you've never eaten an Authentic Cajun fried seafood then you need to try the barbecue crabs at Ragin Cajuns.. as good as you can get, only I wish there were more than three on the order such as an all-you-can-eat pay-one-price!! I'm from the Beaumont area and there used to be BBQ crab buffets but now its hard to find one.

Wish the old quality was there. It was always my go-to, consistent cajun seafood place but lately food has suffered in quality. Get back to the basics.

If you just want crawfish they are great. Anything else not so much. Our family ordered 10 lbs crawfish and they were lapped up. However the grilled shrimp platter has very small shrimp and small portion. Probably won’t go there again.

Went for a late lunch on Friday of Memorial Day Weekend after spending day in Galveston at the beach. The food was fresh and came out hot. I had fried shrimp and oysters. Husband had soft-shell crab plate. Staff was great.

Ragin' Cajun has several different rooms; I normally go to the very informal room with hundreds of university yearbooks, and self-service. But it is closed on Monday aand Tuesday afternoons during the summer, so I went to the more formal room with waitstaff.. The food was food was the usual great food. The room was a little loud.

The staff at our hotel recommended this restaurant when I asked for a place where we could roll up our sleeves and eat a bunch of crawfish. Boy, did they get it right. This restaurant is such a gem, and we're so pleased to have found it. It's a real local restaurant, and it was fascinating to sit with area residents as they had supper. We ordered two pounds of crawfish, a pound of Gulf boiled shrimp and fried Gulf shrimp - nirvana for Canadians who don't have access to this volume and cheap prices. The lineup to order was at least 20 deep the entire time we were there, but no one seemed to mind. The staff was great, offering us advice as we were crawfish rookies. It was a great, delicious experience. How lucky Houstonites are!

We meet several groups of family friend last Sunday for our annual crawfish get together . Nice night and sat outside . Food is pretty good even if you want something other than crawfish. My wife has a small tin of crawfish with potatoes and corn. You build your own combo and pay for what you want . Easy to order extra . I like the fried crawfish so ordered a fried crawfish appetizer and then the fried crawfish salad ( yes odd but really good). Our teenage son had lobster ravioli which he liked but was a bit small Friends mostly had crawfish, gumbo, fried oyster sandwich You can order draft beer from their associates sit down restaurant next door

Great shrimp gumbo (supposed to the crab in it also but I couldn't find any). I have eaten here many times over the years and they have great Louisiana seafood.

The Gumbo was top notch. We had lunch early but the place was filling up at noon. I recommend eating early if you have the chance.

The 12 piece Fried Shrimp Platter is awesome! My friend had the Oysters on the Half Shell and she loved them. I loved the home made Tartar Sauce too! I wish I had that recipe! I got to meet the owner A Mandola! He is a wonderful gentleman.

Had enjoyed a catered meeting for 20 people. Back meeting room was long, narrow and tight. Bar at one end with seating for 35 people but very tight! Food was delicious and catering mgr. on site during whole event.

OMG.... this place was soooooo Good. from the price of the meal to the service.I had a bag of cajun shrimps, crab legs and Corn which was very inexpensive for what I have paid in other places. if you get a chance you must try this place .....

When I really crave some Louisiana cooking this is always a fun place to go. The original location has a true Louisiana feel. My daughter and grandson just moved here from Cajun country and instantly liked the feel when we walked in. This time I had the fried oyster Caesar salad. Delicious! My other family members had the gumbo and the shrimp po-boys and they were great

I was a bit taken back by the long communal tables and the standing in line to order. But once you get past that the experience is great! The food is good...really good! I had catfish and shrimp my husband had the boiled crab. They were both amazing.

Is it appropriate to lick the bowl in public? There is no place with this quality of flavor east of Lake Charles, La. The only error? They don't have a complete sampler platter of all their beans and rice, gumbo, jambalaya, raefish, and etoufee. I put together cups of these and some, of course, Cajun fried crawfish and made my own sampler. They should call it the CropDoc. Now, I can't walk. But, I am smiling and happy. The CropDoc

Came for the Po'boys and left with a police report. The police informed me that over a 12 cars have been broken into at this restaurant. The owners laughed when asked if they will improve security. The owners said that they don't care about customer's cars. They know cars are regularly broken into and don't increase security. The owners said they are just bothered that people give the restaurant bad reviews. Stay away from this restaurant.

Went for lunch and everything folks have said about the Grilled Oysters is absolutely true - just amazing! Also has the Buffalo Crawfish Salad - just the right amount of 'heat' for a wannabe Southerner! and the House salad with Grilled Chicken - excellent! The place has a great atmosphere and we will be back REAL soon to try dinner!

I had the half half crawfish etouffee and crawfish tails. The crawfish etouffee was great but I barely touched the fried crawfish tails. They were bland and greasy and I found them unappetizing. The portion was huge and I could never of finished it however. My coworkers really enjoyed the po boys and the boiled crawfish are amazing. I would still recommend the place and I would go back again but I will avoid the fried crawfish tails from here.

Very good sea food in Houston! Fresh, tasty, big portions! Good experience and a lot of fun with mussels! :)

I had yet another amazing dinner with Alaska snow crab. I love this place. The environment, the people and the food is perfect. No white table cloths or stiff waiters. Just hard core food.

The Rajin' Cajun on Richmond Ave. serves the best Cajun food in Houston. Have been going there for 30 years and rate it for its taste and continued freshness.

Stopped in for late lunch. A very casual place as you place your order at the counter and wait to get called to pick it up. We started off with some tasty Grilled Oysters followed by a Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad, and a Fried oyster platter. Both meals were loaded with flavor and very filling. You will not be disappointed.

Very casual order at the counter place Gumbo was great, oysters fresh, and bucket of crawdads hit the spot Good local experience

We went on a Saturday night around 9:30 and this place was packed! They have good food that came out fast and for the money, the portions are really large. Full service is only available in the bar (where we sat) but otherwise you go up to the counter to order and then pick up your food. Will definitely be back next time we're in Houston.

Got the combo plates with vegetables instead of hush puppies. Excellent and crispy. A good deal with the groupon.

This is one of my dad's favorite places so we take the whole family. They seem to have something for everyone if you like seafood. I love the boiled potatoes and corn. The oysters are also a favorite. The sandwiches are tasty and enjoyed.

Went to the Rajin' Cajun on Richmond for dinner. The food was good - we had shrimp and crawfish fettuccine, boiled crab legs and shrimp gumbo and boudin balls. The frozen swamp drink was also really good. I liked the run down ambiance of the place - looked like an old tried-and-true locals joint. Many diners on both sides - big families, old folks at the bar and tourists. Only thing I didn't like was the service - not very friendly. Not rude at all, just not welcoming. But, I'd go again - the food and the frozen drink was worth it.

I had my yearly dinner at Ragin’ Cajun last night. Every time we are in Houston We have at least one meal at this fabulous Cajun restaurant. We had their excellent fried oysters and absolutely delicious boiled crawfish! A must of you wanted excellent Cajun food in the area

This restaurant is just wonderful. I literally ate here twice in three days!!! They addicted me to crawfish boil, dirty rice and boudin balls!! Cajun food at its best!

I started to order from here a couple times in the past but finally door dashed! I had my heart set on bread pudding all week. It was soooo mushy and extra wet! Even after i laced in the oven for 20 minutes it still tasted horrible! The wings went in the oven as well because they were undercooked. The gumbo tasted scorched... $30 wasted and much disappointment!

Won't go back. Good decor (if you like rustic) and nice easy-going service at the counter. But the food is oily and bland, and will send you to the restrooms with a bit of luck. Stay away of you can.

I had the fried crawfish/catfish combination plate. The crawfish was as good in any I have ever enjoy in south Louisiana. The service was very good and quite patient and helpful. The prices were very reasonable. If you enjoy good Cajun food, this is an excellent choice.

Most of the folks I was near, including my old college buddy who recommended I meet him here, order a pound or two of fresh crayfish. These are served in a pitcher absolutely LITERALLY dripping with cajun spices. They are the real deal and everybody was wolfing them down I, however, don't eat bugs, and instead got a very, very good frozen margarita (I had no idea that they were cajun, but it was still great!) and the best plate of red beans, sausage and rice that I have had in a while. Really good. I'll be back and try some of the other offerings. ...not the bugs. They'll save those for you.

While attending a conference at the nearby Royal Sonesta hotel, we went to the Ragin Cajun for dinner. Good service, great Cajun food and cold beer..what could be better. We sampled various appetizer dishes, starting with the chargrilled oysters with cheese and herbs and finished up with bowls of gumbo or crawfish étouffée. Washed it down with the Hopidillo on draft. Fun place to relax with reasonable prices.

such a great place to eat! all dishes are delicious, tasty. the Louisiana atmosphere surely contributes to this all.

Ragin' Cajun has counter service in the front, where most people order po boys and crawfish, and an oyster bar to the side. I haven't ordered crawfish from them in a while, but the poboys are good, as well as the seasoned fries. I do like the oyster bar, though. When you order oysters, you can actually see that the shucker is opening them, as compared to some places that just bring you a plate of oysters. Decent beer selection, Abita, St. Arnolds, Shiner representing New Orleans / Houston / Texas, and then the standard Mexican and American brands.

You know what you are getting. Laid back and friendly restaurant with crawfish as you want. Nothing fancy, don't bring a tie, but this is one of my favorite if I want mud bugs for dinner.

Excellent if you are looking for a low key place with great food. The staff was great. They were very friendly and helpful. The seating was very comfortable with lots of space to enjoy our meal. They also have cool T-shirts for sale. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxed and inviting.

This is an amazing restaurant for lunch. I highly recommend you try the boudin balls, they really are amazing. Also, the service is very good

Our last night in Houston so we decided to try a little Cajun cooking. Ended up going to the Ragin' Cajun on Richmond Avenue. They had plenty of free parking. You are greeted by an oversized crawfish on the roof over the front door. The facilities are nothing fancy, but you are there for the food and not the atmosphere. This appears to be a local place. By that I mean as I was sitting at the bar the bartender knew most of the people sitting there. As I waited for the other 2 in my party to arrive I reviewed the menu. If it was cajun they had it on menu. Red beans and rice, oysters, various types of gumbo, jambalaya, etouffee, catfish, shrimp and of course crawfish. I had the Gulf Coast shrimp and grits. As described in the menu this is "five sautéed jumbo Gulf Coast shrimp and andouille sausage, served over creamy stone ground grits." Our server also mentioned that the shrimp are sautéed in a jalapeño jelly reduction that adds a little heat and a little sweet. She was not kidding. The dish arrived with the five shrimp and bites size pieces of andouille sausage. All served over a big portion of the creamy grits. As an aside I have had grits before and was not really a big fan, but these were really good. I asked our server how they were prepared and she said that they use milk instead of water to make the grits creamy and creamy they were. Also with some of the jalapeño jelly reduction on the plate gave them even more taste. Plus I like things a little hotter so I added a few healthy dashes of hot sauce to spice it up even more. The entree was also served with two large pieces of garlic bread. One member of our party ordered a pound of crawfish ($6.99) which they serve is a plastic bucket that is filled with the the crawfish and spices. As they say you pinch the tail and suck the head. You will need lots of napkins if you get the crawfish because your hands and face will get messy. They have a full service bar with many beers on tap. They also have some local beers on tap too. As I mentioned earlier the place is not fancy, but the service was good, the staff was friendly and very helpful and the food was worth the trip in Houston traffic. I will go back to the Ragin' Cajun when my work takes me back to the Houston area.

My coworkers decided to get us food from here (2nd time) and it was just as nasty as the 1st time we tried it. We only ordered again because one of the girls swore we had to try the seafood. The seafood was just flat out seasonless and like it's been reheated or boiled. If you're from New Orleans then you know we know. Real Creoles and Cajuns, don't waste your money or time. You'd do better eating a tuna sandwich with crab boil on top. To add to that, I was going to call and ask to speak with a manager but looking at how they respond to customer's, I'm probably going to have a few local reviewers go in and review the food for their platforms and let that be their own demise. Do better!

The freshest tastiest seafood I’ve had in a long time! The portions for the price are areal value when eating with friends or family members. I highly recommend this place!!!

This is one of my father's favorite restaurants and I love it. Everything is terrific, the spices on the food, the crawfish, the veggies like corn on the cob and potatoes, the fabulous seafood gumbo, the French bread for the poboys, and the French fries. They are always crowded and terrific. The food is worth the wait.

Stopped in for early dinner. Easy and free parking. Order at counter and wait for name to be called. Lots of open seating. We had very good Shrimp/Crab Gumbo as a starter. Two very good main courses were Mississippi Catfish Filets and Gulf Coast Shrimp & Grits.

Failed attempt at cajun cuisine. Decent atmosphere but bland sauce. Would not return. Probably ok for something fried or a snack.

Just another review after one in mid-July. With the family in for Christmas, we always like to make the RC for a meal. For 5:30 pm on the day after Christmas, the place was dead. We walked right in and placed our orders: Buffalo crawfish salad, Crawfish PB, Crawfish and Catfish PB and one Sausage PB. Everyone enjoyed their food and the fries and hush puppies. I had the sausage PB but will probably pass on this one. It just didn't have anything really tasty or spicy about it. And I did find an extra long string around the end of one sausage. I'll stick with the seafood.

Always wanted a Po Boy and this is the best place to have one! Consistently busy, the service is fast, efficient and the food is fresh and straight forward. Oysters were sweet and breading was flavorful. Bun was soft and fries, amazing! Can't go wrong.

This restaurant is one of my favorite to go, although expensive for what you get the tase and quality are there. I usually go during the week at lunch but I have also gone a couple of times on Sunday afternoon. Let me tell you that the service certainly suffers when Luke Mandola isn't behind the counter. The service is slow and just not the same vibe. I went in yesterday and I will say that this time the young lady taking the orders and fulfilling them was great. Friendly, smiling and very efficient. Here was the problem. The young man that is the works servicing the needs of the dining room was horrible. I ordered an appetizer and a large entree so I was there for quite awhile. Not once did he get off his cell phone and so his job. There were dirty dishes all over the dining area etc. I have added some pics, hopefully Mr Mandola reads these reviews and can see that his staff sure takes advantage when he is away. Where was the manager? He or she is always nonexistent on Sundays. Come on RC y'all are better than this!

Loved the atmosphere, waitress, food and fun! I love a down home spot full of happy people. This satisfied all my needs. Music wasn't blaring, food was brought out in a timely fashion and i didnt have to keep asking for things. My waitress was really lovely. Great mid week spot! Try the blue crab both ways if you can. Yummmm!

Awesome crawfish and awesome oyster on the grill, definitely will be back. Love the atmosphere and the music. Very good, thank you.

It you're into seafood, southern hospitality and a good time look no further! crawfish are amazing, oysters are great and happy hour is worth it!

If you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather and trying to decide where to find authentic Louisiana Cajun seafood, Ragin Cajun on Richmond is the place! Authentic seafood restaurants pay tribute to those who love to fish and love great seafood. Flyin Fish in Dallas and Ragin Cajun could be Country Cousins, they both are so true to their communities. Ragin Cajun has yearbooks for you to browse through and Flyin Fish has family photos and Billy Bob Fish on display. World Series games are on so you can review those plays from yesterday! The food is very fresh and prepared to perfection. The ambience is easy going Louisiana Love!

At first glance, you would not rate this place highly. the external view is dull, weathered, and inside not so great either. Having never tried RC's, and at the behest of my good friend, we tried it. The crawfish, and gumbo, don't come cheap, yet it wasn't long before the few patrons became the many. At this time of year, the crawfish are still small, yet the taste still hits the right spot. We ordered at the counter rather than from the table, and we both ordered the gumbo. I opted for the shrimp, my friend went for the sausage. Then came the large bucket of crawfish. They were smaller than expected. It is fun eating them, would be better if I could shell them quicker though, guess that comes with experience. Other than the ritual potato and corn, we went with the oysters. They were god too, lots of lemons, horse radish and catsup. In all, it was a pretty good meal, but I want to visit a different crawfish place next time to make a fair comparison.

Crawfish and shrimp pobpy was very New Orleans authentic! My parents are from NOLA so we always look for the best!!

I am not a spicy or crawfish kind of girl so I was skeptical of this place. Had great catfish and other non seafood choices. Very casual laid back fun place. Music was great and fun too!

I have to say I was very disappointed on this visit. I chose not to eat the mud bugs that my friends had, being English, it's not my desire even though I've eaten them before and at this restaurant. Give me fish & chips and I'm happy. This time I ate the catfish with fries whilst my friends ate the critters. I have to say I was extremely disappointed. The fish was barely hot, no it was just above warm. Shared it with my GF. By comparison, the next day I went to Kemah, had English Cod & chips, which were hot and delicious. Don't get me wrong, the RC was very busy, but I wasn't happy. Had it not been the anniversary of the inlaw's, I surely would have spoken up.

The place is as plain as could be, nothing fancy here. The fried oysters were delicious, nice and plump. What really drew me here is the hot boiled crawfish, which were delicious and soo addictive ...... nice and big, too. Moderately priced, and loads of other seafood items, if you're not into mudbugs If you're not into spicy, they will give them to you rinsed, which are still tasty as hell without having your nose run All in all, a fun place where you can let your hair down and have a fun time eatin' large !

We went there last year and I was not too impressed but we tried it again this year after the new management took over and the crawfish was pretty good. I will try them again!

When you walk into Ragin' Cajun, you hear the zydeco music playing, you see the memorabilia from numerous Louisiana universities on the walls, and see the ice house style decor that reminds you of a place located along one of the Louisiana swamps. The po-boys are delicious, the hush puppies are authentic, the red beans and rice are spot on, the fried oysters are tasty, and of course the boiled crawfish are a must when in season. As a Lousianaian, Ragin' Cajun is the only place in Houston that truly reminds me of my home state's cuisine & where I can get true proper boiled crawfish.

I ordered the grilled shrimp with sautéed veggies, a cup of gumbo, charbroiled oysters, mac and cheese and beers. This is a self serve restaurant and very raunchy atmosphere. The shrimp were large and the veggies were tasty. The gumbo was watery and tasteless. The oysters didn't have much flavor either. The mac and cheese was spicy. Overall, I don't plan on returning. The one main dish I did see people eat were the crawfish. I saw several buckets at the tables.

Awesome place great atmosphere and even better food. Very loud and a long wait but ultimately very worth it.

We used to go here often when we lived in Houston (pre pandemic). On a recent visit we went and were somewhat disappointed. The shrimp platter was good, the catfish was average at best. The hush puppies had a sweetness that was off putting. The red sauce tasted like ketchup even after adding Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce. I thought it was overpriced.

I have been to the original Rajin' Cajun location on West Richmond several times for their oyster happy hour. A dozen grilled oysters are $18 and a dozen on the half shell $10. I usually get both. The oysters have always been fresh and very succulent. The grilled are as good as any I have had in New Orleans. Drinks are reduced price as well. If you like oysters, I would definitely try this place!

This was my first time back since the late 1990’s. Over the years I have always raved about this place which is probably the first place my wife and I ate fried catfish. So the big question I had was if the original catfish paradise was still the real deal? The place still looked the same not to say that it was run down. There is a large bar area on the left of the main dining area and the seafood bar on the right. There is also seating outside. The inside memorabilia is great eye candy and helps keep you mellow. So how was it? Here you go … The catfish was outstanding, the fried shrimp, coleslaw and bottled sauce were very good, the oysters were a bit tough but still better than average and the hush puppies were not very good.

Very good and efficient service, Drinks and meals delivered spot on. Raw and grilled oysters were fantastic - in fact may go back just for the grilled ones. Grilled fish was very good. Good happy hour fro those that enjoy. Decent meal, served hot - no messing around the heat lamps. Good to go.
Still a wonderful place for some spicy Cajun treats
Went this past Saturday to the Richmond location. This location is the best although all are more than sufficient. Daughter had shrimp meal and I had the crab/sausage/corn/shrimp boil which was perfectly seasoned. Service is order at counter and pick up your food style which was adequate and timely. Very friendly staff. Wish I still worked closer like the old days when I could go once a week!!!
