Not Our Type of Place

By rrm126 |

My wife and I visited Chicago for a long weekend. We were staying close to the Randolph Tavern. We had checked the website and the menu looked interesting. As we were approaching the front door the volume coming from the bar was very loud. We entered and could not believe how loud it was. There was not a live band but the music playing through the sound system was very loud. The place was wall to wall and the people were also very loud. Before we go any further I have been a professional musician all my entire adult life and I am used to loud music and bars but this was over the top. We had to literally scream at the hostess so she could hear us. She screamed back that it would be a twenty minute wait for a table. We declined and went down the block to another restaurant and had a nice quiet meal. Having said this I know that we were at the bar at the busiest time in a Sat night. We knew it would be very busy but the place was just two loud for us. Would still like to try the menu on another not so busy night but would definitely avoid the place on a Sat night.

Girlfriend Dinner

Place is a nice after work location. Plenty of seats and good bar menu. Not far from the Ogilvie Train station. I ordered their burger and it was really good.

Great apps

By Amy |

We ate here on a bar crawl from the Willis Tower to the Gwen Hotel. We only got an appetizer- the crispy pork belly tots and some beer and cocktails. This dish looks like heartburn city but it is awesome! It is more than enough for two. The bar is average, menu has something for pretty much everyone, service is average. It's a good stop for a crawl but I think we would have been disappointed had we counted on it for a full dinner.

Loud and Overpriced

By Julie B |

I recently dined at Randolph Tavern with friends for lunch. I enjoy a festive and boisterous atmosphere, but the acoustics in this restaurant are downright terrible. Not only could we not hear most of what our waiter said, special, etc, we had a hard time hearing ourselves speak at the table. It was distracting and took away from the lunch. As far as the food - I ordered the Tuna Nicoise Salad - which when it was delivered I thought was a joke, the meager two tiny squares of tuna a top the salad were almost an insult. I joked that the salad should have simply been called Nicoise Salad as the tuna was almost non existent. I also ordered the brussel sprouts, which didn't come with the meal - I had to remind the waiter that I ordered them, perhaps he never heard me order them over the roar of noise in the restaurant. I also thought the beer prices were very steep! I'm used to paying high costs for craft beers, but the prices here border on gouging. I will look for other places to dine instead of here in the future.

Poor service at the Randolph Street Tavern

By May202015 |

Had reservations for 5:00 on a Saturday night. After ordering and waiting over one hour for our meals to come, the food that we got was COLD. The excuse for the delay was a large party and back-up in the kitchen. Obviously, our food had been cooked but not brought to us. Why not? Sitting near the kitchen, we observed some waiters serving their tables quickly. We grew tired hearing the excuses from the manager and our waitress. Over all, your experience at the Eavern may be hit-and-miss. Considering the many reliable restaurants downtown avoid this one. We will never go there again.

what a disaster

By CavoDublin |

I went there early evening the barman gave me a beautuful American beer 2 hours latrr when I took my wife the waiter never heard of the beer we ofdered food well to say it was bad thats an understatement the chips were so burned they were black the onion fings left a lot to be desired steak not bad but my wifes chicken was dry and nothing special never again and I could not say what a terrible meal we had

Great place for lunch or drinks.

By stepusin |

Really enjoyed the poboy sandwich, and all the food I’ve had here has been great. Really large area conducive to getting an after work drink.

Very loud

By Randy M |

We eat here for supper meal last week. I must admit that I am not use to being around the city nightlife. However I found this tavern to be very loud and the crowd seemed to get louder as the meal went on. Maybe this is common and I am just not used to this environment. With that being said the food was very good and we all had plenty to eat with our orders.

Good food, good ambience

By Ritu |

I was staying in a hotel just opposite this place, and decided to meet my co-workers for lunch here. The attendant recommended the days special, and some other options, and we loved the food. The ambience was great for a semi casual meeting. Loved the sweet potato fries alongside my sandwich.

Excellent lunch; exceeded expectations

By tcut |

Randolph Tavern was a pleasant surprise for lunch on an unseasonably hot September day. Cool air condition and icy craft IPA's started things out well. Our waiter was dead-on with his beer recommendation, preferring Around the Bend Villainous to Solemn Oath Snaggletooth Bandana. (We tried both and found the first to be superior as well, despite a difference of opinion on RateBeer.) My Thai Salad was fresh, big and tasty, especially once I spiced-up the peanut sauce with Cholula Green. I loved there was plenty of crunch wonton strips for every bite. My husband's roast chicken and vegetables was equally appealing with crispy skin and colorful, well-cooked melange of veggies including mushrooms, brussel sprouts and cherry tomatoes. The crowd was a mix of working lunch and tourists so dress covered that range, i.e., everything from suits to shorts. Prices were fair for the area.

Great place!

By Tina B |

This was across from my hotel and the best part of my trip. The food was excellent and service was super fast! I dined in once and had take out another night; both were great!

Not impressed!

By gramlichlk |

$16 for pulled pork which came out surprisingly fast and now I know why- small portion precooked and Luke warm at best. Portion was really small! I didn't send back as I got the impression it's how they do it here! Cole slaw was tasty but portion came in small side cup container like what a side of ketchup is served in. Fries clearly sitting under heat lamps for a while--1/2 way through my meal the god was rather cold! Unfortunate but since I'm so hungry I'm making it work- underwhelmed! I did have a decent Moscow mule but for a $12 drink I would have thought it could have been served in something other than a 5oz cup-- thank god for Guinness, although $7 is rather steep for a draught can! Sigh!

Disappointing

By RC_Virginia |

This restaurant starts with potential - but it goes away quickly. The food is ok at best....the Las Vegas Steak I had was so/so at best. The appetizers were a mixed bag. The mixed chips were boring....the dips they came with were uninspired. The Calamari was amazing though....those were really good!! This is not the place you want to come if you want to speak to the people you are with, that is unless you want to lean forward and yell at them. Heck even making a reservation was tough enough since we could barely hear each other (hostess and me).

Tasty Saturday Evening Meal

By Vanessa |

I visited the restaurant with my partner on our last night in Chicago, we were looking for good food with a local feel and we were delighted with what we found We were greeted and seated with a smile as soon as we arrived and our waitress Emma did a great job in looking after us The bar was quite so not a great atmosphere but the waitress was attentive and talked to us about the local area My partner ordered stake which was cooked perfectly and I order Thai chicken salad which was a huge portion (see photos) both meals were tasty and good value. We also had a couple of drinks each The restaurant and the rest rooms are clean and on one floor so all easy to access Our total bill included 2 meals, drinks and tip $130

Good food, mediocre service

By Lea |

Everywhere I go in Chicago seems to have great food with average to poor service. This place fits that bill. Good food, but the only drinks we were given were the very first ones. Not a single refill and our waitress was no where to be found. Awesome fried chicken, though.

mediocre tavern

By Auburn L |

a tavern, epitome of beer drinking, had no red or amber ales! The BBQ Combo was cold and flavorless. The medium-rear stake was rubber-made and, even the steak knife, was unable to cut through. A carpenter clamps would help to keep it in place while cutting. Peach cobbler dessert order was taken but then canceled... Server Missy was trying to help.

Great bar and restaurant near the theaters

By Shelliu |

Great option for pre-theater or post-theater dining. Diverse food, great bar for happy hour or restaurant for lunch or dinner and excellent service. The chile relleno was great as was the mac & cheese. There is also a good beer selection. Only downside was the dessert selection but I guess that is expected at a bar.

Great Service, Extensive Craft Beer Menu, Good Salad, Overdone Ribs

By Momrat3 |

We stopped here for lunch before a theatre performance at the Cadillac Palace. Samantha was our server, and she was really pleasant and attentive, but not obtrusive. We asked for suggestions for a light lunch, since we had never eaten here before. She recommended the Ahi Tuna Nicoise Salad (to share), and we also the House Smoked Rib Tips starter. The salad was tasty, but the rib tips were very dry and chewy, with a largish piece of gristle in each. Sadly, the sauce on them was excellent and wasted on such overdone meat. We did enjoy our beers, though! Always fun to try something new. The atmosphere was very nice, especially at lunch on a Sunday. Not too noisy, and not too busy. We didn't feel at all rushed, and the food was delivered in a very timely manner so we could make our show on time.

Good Food and Service

By alwaysreadyfortravel |

We had lunch here and enjoyed a good burger with a nice atmosphere. It is conveniently located across from the Cadillac Theater. The prices are a little expensive, but as expected for in the city. Our waiter was very nice and kept our drinks full.

Not the best BBQ, but other great options

By Allison J |

I know this is supposed to be a BBQ place, but we were not impressed by the BBQ (pork or beef brisket), however my fish tacos and drink with pineapple-jalapeño infused tequila were enough to make up for that! I would order both of those things again.

Staying across the road from The Randolph Taven, it is convienent, but that is all.

By OscarPhilips |

I ate late dinners at the Randolph Tavern twice in three days ... just because it was convenient, I should have stayed in my room. My first trip started with coffee, and even when warmed up, it was too cold. The chicken-tortilla soup was good, and I had it both days, but on the second visit it was not hot. The Brisket Tavern Quesadilla (also first visit) was good. It was the first visit with good HOT soup and the Quesadilla is what made me visit again. On the second trip I tried the Jambalaya ... again COLD!. My second trip overshadowed any good feelings about the Randolph Tavern created by the first visit. Cold Soup, Cold Jambalaya ... I just wanted to get out of the restaurant, and would not recommend it to anyone. With these inconstancies is it easy to see how some reviews are great and some are terrible. Don't roll the dice on your night out.

For a pre-performance meal at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, this is the place

By Allen21096 |

Honestly, I wish I didn't have to say that, ONLY because I would hate to see a lot more people trying to eat there before a theatre production on a night that we were going. The Randolph Tavern is located directly across the street from the Cadillac Palace Theatre, as the crow flies, probably about 150 feet. We had gone to dinner somewhere else, close, but we had time so that we did stop for drinks at the Randolph Tavern. We were seated immediately. Our server, Daniela, was excellent. The menu was pretty good, though we only had an rum & o.j. and a cranberry juice & vodka. The price was reasonable. There is outdoor seating during if you are there when the weather is decent.

Bad food. Avoid it

By rui21 |

Chips are eatable. All the rest is pretty bad. Jambalaya was impossible to eat! Rice was sticky and taste was pretty bad. Staff said that's it is. Avoid it.

Don't Eat Here!!

By Lady4gb |

This was a terrible dining experience. My colleague and I were staying at the Allegro and decided to walk across the street to eat a late (8:00 PM) dinner. The waitress was rude, and mentioned a couple times that the kitchen was about to close (they close at 9:00 PM). We ordered an appetizer, cup of soup (my colleague ordered a side salad) and entrées. The entrées came before the appetizer and soup/salad. We mentioned this to the waitress and all she said was "I understand, the kitchen messed up!" They then brought out our appetizer and soup/salad and offered to keep our meals warm while we ate the appetizers. After sitting under the heat lamps for 2 - 3 minutes they brought the entrées back out and set them on the table next to us. The salad was drenched in vinegar so that my colleague could not eat it. The soup had a unpleasant taste to it, that I could not put my finger on. When the guy from the kitchen came out to take our plate/bowl he asked me if I didn't like the soup. I told him no and he walked away. Our waitress walked up a few minutes later and asked "what exactly didn't you like about the soup and salad." I told her the taste was off and my colleague indicated too much vinegar. She then asked me "What exactly do you want from me, to take it off the bill? When people COMPLAIN they usually want something." I told her I didn't complain, he asked me if I liked it and I told him no. Long story short, the entrées ended up stone cold, the soup and salad were terrible and were not taken off our bill and the waitress was obnoxious! Stay away from the Randolph Tavern!

Great Assortment of Beverages

Stopped in while waiting to meet friends. It was a busy Friday after work. The bartenders were so nice and knowledgeable with different cocktails. We ended up staying!

Turn the volume down!

By Kevin H |

Dropped into the Randolph Tavern for dinner with my wife. We were staying at the Alegro Hotel which is just across the street. This pub is huge and seems to run the full length of the street. I asked our waiter how many tables they had and he didn't know but said it was around 300 seats plus bar stools. The ambience would be vastly improved if they turned the music down a notch or two. It is so loud it prevents proper conversation . Add to that the big screen TV's showing baseball games - a game totally lost on British or European customers - and it is all a bit too much. The service was good and the food OK, nothing brilliant but acceptable all the same. The pub was busy but due to the size of it maybe it didn't seem as busy as it actually was. The other thing is they only serve one non alcoholic.beer which is a shame. All in all, not too bad but certainly not a place to go for a romantic meal, not unless you are both hard of hearing or wear hearing aids you can turn down.

Nice vibe, bad experience

By Eastcoast24 |

I went with a group from school to eat here as our nice dinner, one night. We called ahead to reserve a table for 9. The restaurant is huge so i imagine that wouldn't be hard to get a seat anyways. The place has a trendy vibe and there were alot of people simply having drinks over food. this may have had to do with the fact that the prices were pretty outrageous. My burger ended up being almost 20 dollars! One drink was 12! Its also pretty loud near the front where we sat so don't expect to have any sincerely deep conversations. The food was okay but my rating really plummets when we went to pay. We were given one check and then when we asked to split it, were told we could not split. It was a very frustrating situation for a group of college kids since you don't know exactly how much each person should pay with tax and tip included. Someone ends up getting the short end of the stick. It was definitely not worth the headache and for that I would not go here unless I knew i wasn't splitting the check. This may be a chicago thing as we ran into this issue a second time but in my opinion it really hurts your business and should be changed.

Great spot for a quick bite to eat

By kristine v |

The location is great for lunch or a quick dinner, close to train station. There were several food choices for vegans. Brussel sprouts were fantastic. The service was only fair and our visit with 5 people, several people had errors with their order even though it was not crowded at the time. Good for typical tavern food and worth giving another chance with service.

Average Restaurant but...

By Debora P |

Our food at Randolph Tavern was just so-so. Nothing terrible; nothing great. Service was good. It's a very large and very noisy space. The good thing about Randolph Tavern; it's very close to a number of downtown Chicago theaters + it's price-point is very acceptable; less than $50/couple including tip/tax. So, like I said, very average but sometimes it's all you need.

Nice Sit Down in the City

By Geri C |

My sons and I visited over lunch. We arrived just before the lunch hour, which was perfect, not busy yet. The hostess showed us our table, directly in the kitchen path, we asked for another table. We were seated in a booth, with a window view. We were satisfied. The hostess was not happy with our request. The menu was sufficient. We ordered sandwiches. Mine was the crispy chicken minus the jardiniere. It was good. The sandwiches came with a few side choices. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Although, he did promise extra, crispy French fries and they were not. Cloth napkins were a plus. Large glasses of water, very, nice. The root beer I ordered was refilled often. Pleasant experience.

Stop for lunch from the blue line from airport with daughter. Great stop to recharge and orientate ourselves. Pulled pork is the bomb!

YUM!!

By Pcolagrandma |

I was visiting some friends in Chicago on 11/7/15 and we stopped in at Randolph's Tavern for dinner. There were three of us and the waitress was going to seat us at a pretty small high-top table. We asked to sit somewhere else so she obliged. There were A LOT of empty tables so I'm not sure what her thought process was but it all worked out. We had a lovely meal. I had a chicken Quesadilla someone else had their Brisket and it was delicious! I can't remember what the third person had but we all very much enjoyed our food. The manager came over to check on us and that was nice.

Macho Nachos

By Renee P |

This was the best nacho plate ever. Smoked pulled chicken and aioli. Just super. Solid Cuban and Salad was on point even as a half!

Fastest sit down meal ever

By atjtetmt |

We went at lunch time on a Sunday. Nice atmosphere and pretty simple menu with something for everyone. We ordered a burger and nachos. No joke it was out in two-three minutes. Big portions and enough food for the 3 of us to split. I think their simple menu makes for the quick turn around. Food was delicious. Servers and hostess were all very nice. It’s across from several theaters so a great stop before or after a show.

A Decent Tavern

By warrdogg |

Stopped into the Randolph Tavern after wandering around downtown looking for a place to eat. The tavern was huge with many tables. The menu seemed to have enough choices for everyone. The waitress provided some menu suggestions, but wasn't very knowledgeable on some questions asked. The brisket was tasty, but was dry. We also ordered the tacos, but was brought the wrong kind, but it tasted good. Good cocktails and beer selection. Nothing outstanding here, but was a decent place for lunch.

Way too understaffed for a Friday night

By CMT60605 |

I went their for a bunch of co-workers at 3:00 on a Friday. The manager/chef told us we could have the lounge area which they later kicked us out of because they said they had a reservation at 5:00. This would have been nice to know as we may have gone elsewhere before 5:00. The biggest problem was that they didn’t have enough bartenders for a Friday night. If you have ever been there - their bar is enormous and seats like 60 people. Two servers are not enough. We had to wave our arms and yell to get attention from the bartenders. And we spent a lot of money. I asked to see the manager and the chef/ manager arrived. He said that based on their reservations they only had two servers. What a huge miss! I guess this is what you get when you have the cook making the bartenders’ schedule. It should be somebody who understands the front of the house.

The worst of Chicago

By Darryl A |

We were staying across the street at the Allegro Hotel and all week wondered what it would be like to eat there. On the last night we tried it and it was horrible. We arrived about 730 and the place was almost empty and it was a Friday night. The music was way too loud and there was a table of drunk women sitting near the front yelling at each other, probably because the music was way up. Normally I would have just left but said we would meet someone's else there so we asked to sit outside. The service was very slow. We were served our drinks after our food. I had the pulled pork and it was horrible. I sent it back and still got charged. The server was clueless. It was our worst eating experience all week and I am annoyed that we wasted our last night on this place. It was truly horrible.Avoid this place there are so many other great place in Chicago!

Fast service

By Jennifer A |

Went here to eat an early dinner before a 7:30pm show with the kids. The service was great. For the price the food is ok... what I expected for a tavern. Kids ordered fish and chips. I had the kale hummus which was surprisingly really good.

Quick service

By Connie H |

I ate here 3 times. Service was quick and efficient, staff friendly. I enjoyed each of my meals, 1 lunch, 2 dinners.

Great place to eat before a show

By Charlie F |

Someone suggested the Randolph Tavern to us as a good and reasonable place to eat before our show Saturday evening and it was a great idea. Located just a couple of blocks from the Oriental Theater and close to all the other theaters, the Randolph Tavern has ample seating, an extensive menu, and our server, Nestor, was fantastic - a true professional. My wife had the chicken wrap and said it was the best she ever had (and that's a lot of wraps!!). The prices were reasonable for Chicago. All things considered, it's a good choice in Chicago.

Good location for Cadillac Palace, but VERY loud

By Green24 |

This restaurant is almost directly across the street from the Cadillac Palace Theater. To be honest that is the best thing about the restaurant. If you need a quick bite before going to the theater, this restaurant will do. The restaurant is large and has varies types of tables - - - high, low, communal. We were seated at a low communal table, but no one else sat with us. It was so loud that my husband and I could not hear each other across the table. Our server was okay albeit somewhat inattentive. We started with the three dips and tortilla chips. They were average - nothing special. We did not like the queso - no flavor. I had the BBQ Cola Chicken sandwich. I will say the chicken was good. (I did not like the BBQ sauce which I added.) The coleslaw sounded great on the menu, but I did not taste the apple and the amount was scarce. Sweet potato fries were okay. My husband got the BBQ pork platter with tater tots. Liked the tots, but not the pork. Overall, I might eat here again if in a hurry, but there are many other options if you have the time. NOTE: They serve RC products which is almost unheard of.

Bad Service and Food

By Monetthecat |

Struggling to find anything good to say about Randolph Tavern. The place is large and we were seated quickly, but that about the end of the good news. Server got the order wrong, food was tasteless, bus service was slow to refill water and clear table and finally it took 30 minutes to get the check and pay after we were finished eating. Also one of my pet peeves is for a bar-like place that serves burgers why do they only have Grey Poupon mustard. Nothing against it, but with burgers and fries yellow mustard is preferred. We asked and the server said they only have what is on the table.

Good burgers but cold airco

By MajaK2010 |

Massive portions of course, it is the US after all. But burger was very tasty. Don't go for dessert, the portions are way to big, you need to be 5 to share one slice of cake.

Typical Chicago Loop restaurant

By NoApprovalBlog |

It's gigantic, it's loud, it's slightly over-priced and the food is mediocre. But it's convenient and has a fairly unique menu (for instance I ordered a lobster roll) so there is that. The place was packed on a Wednesday for lunch but we got in no problem for a table of 3. The server was really nice and the food came quickly, but for 3 basic meals and a beer it was $80. I guess that is downtown Chicago for you. I was kind of excited for tater tots but they were really not that good. They came out room temperature like they'd been sitting somewhere for a while. And the plate was so big (or they gave me so little tots) that there was a ton of white space on the plate in-between the tater totals. It looked strange and off-putting. If nothing else that probably is just a reflection of the place being so busy combined with their lack of attention to detail. Way too many options in the city for me to be going back here again.

Good bar food

By Marcy D |

Craft beers overpriced & under poured so stick to the commercial beers if you want more bang for your buck. Tavern burger (2 patties, bacon, fried egg) was a good size and very, very tasty. Would certainly order again. Fries crispy and hot with the perfect amount of salt. Cubano not traditional style but I grew not to care since the pulled pork was tender, tasty and not greasy. Will order pulled pork & tater tots next time. Hard to believe an inner-city bar could make pulled pork this delicious. Mustard undetectable on the Cubano. Sweet potato fries also crispy, hot and salted. Ordered the deviled egg appetizer- 2 eggs cut in half $7 & bland. Had been looking forward to the brussels sprouts side but for $7 extra I skipped it. From our experience, it seems traditional bar food and beer is the best choice here for taste and your wallet. Will come back if in this part of town again. Cubs game on all screens. Vibrant crowd this playoff night.

Great for a bite before the show

By WinfieldRDH |

Had tickets for Aladdin and stopped in here for a drink and a bite to eat. Quick, efficient service, good drinks and we really enjoyed our food. Very lively atmosphere. So much larger than we thought from the outside. Even on a weekday evening it was very full.

Great Place

By Bill C |

Food and service was outstanding. Great drinks also. Right in the heart of Chicago theater district. Can get rather loud at times.

Vibrant atmosphere with great beer and food

By John S |

A very popular watering hole for the business folks in the Loop, the wait can be long and loud on a Friday evening, but it's worth it. The tavern is large with several seating options, but all are at a high volume. You will need to sit or stand close to hear your conversation, but that will also give you the chance to share the excellent food. The Korean tacos are very good and the sandwiches are varied and intriguing. The bacon-wrapped meatloaf is a comfort food experience. The beer selection is also impressive, both on tap and in the bottles or cans. Definitely worth returning - perhaps at a different time.

Loud inside, poor service outside.

By Michelle C |

We decided to dine at RandolphTavern before seeing a show at the Cadillac Theater. The hostess was incredibly kind and helpful, and we chose to sit outside as the inside was a long wait - and quite noisy! After 10 minutes of not even seeing a server, we went back to the hostess station to ask if one was coming. Gave us a complimentary appetizer - which came out still frozen in the middle. Food was meh. There are TOO many good restaurants in the area to go back to Randolph Tavern (although the tots were good).

Huge Menu

By Lawsonio1 |

It’s great as a sports bar...there is everything from the American football to baseball to basketball all over the TV’s. Huge choice of real ales and a huge menu to go with it. Be careful not to order too much as the portions are huge. Would recommend as a bar snack...not as a romantic menu.

Good food, good drinks, great restaurant

By Stephanie H |

I ordered the California chicken club. Very good choice. The chicken was so moist, it practically was falling apart when I bit into it. The avocado sauce on it topped it off. I will be coming back to this restaurant next time I'm in Chcago.

Good bar/restaurant in theatre district

By AberdeenM |

Across the street from Hotel Allegro where i was staying. A large bar/restaurant which has a large varied menu and great food. The restaurant was busy on both occasions I was in (Blackhawks on the TV in the Stanley Cup Final) but service was quick and efficient. Close to a number of Chicago theatres. Well worth a visit.

Great HH Spot

By Arielle L |

I stayed across the street at the Kimpton Amara while on a business trip and having this spot across the street was so convenient. It is in the financial district so when I was there, lots of people were meeting for happy hour after work. The atmosphere was buzzing with conversation and it was great people watching. The fried pickles are awesome. I also had the Cuban sandwich. So enjoyable. I cannot wait to go back on my next trip out there.

Great food and Craft Beer too!

By Bob S |

Stayed in the hotel across the street and went here just because it was close...Could not have made a better choice! We were a big group but they easily accommodated us. The atmosphere was inviting the beer selection was really good but the food was great! Great staff kept us happy for a couple hours. We showed up here out of convenience but we will be going back next time we're in town.

Lunch Stop

By TRC123434 |

We came in while sightseeing in the area. This was not out first choice, but this one didnt have a wait and we wanted to eat quickly. I really enjoyed the nashville hot dipped chicken I ordered. The weird thing was my husband didn't care for his burger and I didn't think there could be a burger he didn't enjoy. There atmospere was nice, it has a really long bar, some tv's and it seemed clean.

So-So! Not Bad, not great

By IndyDenise |

This is a large pub with a huge open space which means your neighbor's ( or the table 15 feet away ) conversation will intrude upon your own. Since this a popular after work hangout you will be thrust right into several conversations you would rather shut out. The food is so-so. Hamburger passable, bbq beef tasty but cold ( and served with the blandest slaw in the world, tastes exactly like shredded cabbage and nothing else ) . However, service was decent and our waitress was running her legs off keeping tables happy. Honestly, would rather have went to Jersey Mikes..better value for money.

Good food but very loud

By Attea146 |

Good selection of beverages--craft beers and rose from Provence, which is always welcome on a hot day. It appears to be more bar than restaurant and it is very loud. We found it somewhat difficult to carry on a conversation. Also, they need more regular tables, as we were seated at bar stools even though we were there to eat dinner. Dates wrapped in bacon were very yummy. Hummus platter came with baked flatbread chips and not the pita I was expecting.

A Hidden Gem!

By Steven A. |

Located in the center of the Loop, it is extremely convenient to the Cadillac Palace Theatre, Daley Plaza and other Loop events. The menu has many nice selections to chose from. I have been a couple times and it has only gotten better. If you are looking for some comfort food, Randolph Tavern is a good place to find it. Staff were very friendly, very engaging and attentive. Food was very good! If you haven't tried it, then you should.

Dinner With Friends

By JrryKhls |

Right across the street from the hotel. Very good service and food for a reasonable price (for a downtown eatery). Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. We would definitely return if we go back and stay in same area.

Great for Lunch

By GramCPA |

A colleague and I checked out the Randolph Tavern for lunch today and it was a great experience. EXTREMELY quick service... the Jambalaya and salad were out so fast we barely had time to catch up. Our servers didn't pressure us to get out fast so there was still time to catch up at the end... but was pleasantly surprised at how fast the food came out. Everything tasted great... diverse menu with everything from salads to BBQ to burgers to a fish fry to NOLA-inspired dishes. Definitely recommend for a lunch with a colleague... not too loud but not stuffy like many places in the Loop can be. Definitely want to come back for happy hour... this huge place with a good beer list would be perfect.

Great bar near the theater

This is so close to the theaters, nice to relax after the drive into the city. I had a mojito made with fresh mint, it was excellent.

Good food, but loud atmosphere

Ate at the Randolph tavern this week. The food was very good. I had salmon over cheese grits. While the food and service were excellent, the atmosphere was very loud. It has a super busy week day lunch crowd. Don't go there and expect to have a quiet conversation.

Quick bite was nice

By ldybug252000 |

ran in here looking for a quick bite to eat and was satisfied. there was no host at the host station, so as my first time here I wasn't sure if I should just seat myself or what. so I waited for a minute, then walked over to the bar. I was told to just go sit which I did. Matt ended up being my waiter and was pretty nice. We had good conversation, I ate and left. I would go again.

Another Great Experience at the Tavern!

By Steven A. |

This has become a very popular hangout in the Loop! Good food, good service and plenty of seats! The menu is large, so there is a lot of good choices to chose from. Depending upon where you sit, determines the noise, the more in the middle, the more noise, further to the rear, the quieter. Lots of after work groups enjoying beers, food and sports - so it is a lively scene. Not where you want to go if you are looking for a quiet meal - vibrant would be a better description! A fun place to visit and good food to be had!

Fantastic BBQ Brisket and Other Great Stuff

By Dirk V |

We recently visited this establishment. Robby our server was most accommodating and even got the closest TV tuned to our favorite football game. I ordered brisket and was blown away by the portion and the quality. I could not finish it, but wished I could as each bit was great. We were with a party of 8 and they took our reservation the day of our visit. Everyone enjoyed their food and the fun atmosphere. It is located across from the Cadillac Palace Theater in the Theater district and they cater to the theater crowd before and after shows.

Great place to get a group together

By Vneitzelt |

We enjoyed this place and the food. You must get the fried pickles... YUM. So much to choose from and everyone in our party of 10 enjoyed their meal. Atmosphere was great as well! Very trendy, cool place. Prices were really good too.

A Great Bar with Appealing Food

By Lyn_Farmer |

This is a real tavern - a long bar and a restaurant as well. Great rustic food (the burgers are first rate) with enough trendy dishes to satisfy everyone. I particularly liked the fried calamari, and they have a very good selection of salads. Randolph Tavern is all about barbecue - the brisket is first rate - but there are many other dishes to enjoy - the saffron salmon and the 24-hour fried chicken are really wonderful. The tavern has a good wine selection and a dazzling array of craft beer. The restaurant is fancier inside than you expect from its simple exterior, and it's really worth a stop. This is one of my new favorite spots in the theater district.

Great Burger & Service

By Laura L |

I went during a business trip to Chicago with a friend who lives there. It was super convenient because it was only a short walk from the Mart! We both had delicious burgers and our waiter was very nice..he even let us sample a few beers because we didn't know quite what we wanted. It was a little crazy because a big Blackhawks game, but it made the whole bar feel alive. It wasn't fine dining or anything, but the food and drinks were good and I was still able to hear my friend even with all the hockey ruckus going on.

We closed the place - never done before - at 7:15 after an adequate meal; very convenient for Cadillac Palace theater

By Michael L |

This place is as convenient as it gets for a pre-theater meal at the Cadillac Palace Theater. It was Super Bowl Sunday (bad planning on our part, but we saw the first half on their many screens - they even put the sound on in our area). It has a very varied menu, but we chose a steak salad, which was very good, and their 18-hour BBQ brisket, which was merely OK (it had little flavor with no sauce; the bottled BBQ sauce provided was not great, though if you liked a spicy sauce, it might be OK. They were only open for the theater crowd - we were the last out, closing the place!

Beer and Upscale Bar Food

By Joy K |

This place is huge and was quite busy even on a Weds. Good list of draft beer ranging $8-10. People meeting after work, before the theatre, couples and groups. Lively place but you could still carry on a conversation. TVs showing sports with sound off. Open kitchen which was exceptionally clean. Food was "bar food" but more upscale and more expensive and very tasty. One of us had the Lobster Roll--very nice but with a mix of lobster, shrimp, etc. rather than the Maine version with large chunks of lobster. I had the Brick Chicken which was a small half chicken mostly deboned. It was served on top of a mix of braised brussels sprouts, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms in a butter rosemary sauce. It was yummy and a nice large portion. The fish and chips was three nice sized portion of crispy hake--tasty, lightly breaded and very good. The fries were crunchy, not greasy. Sweet potato fries also very good. The beer list was interesting and our choices were very tasty. Other tables were having cocktails, wine, whatever. Drinks were not cheap but reasonable considering its theatre location. Service was attentive and friendly. Food came fairly quickly for the size of the crowd.

Omg - Too LOUD! Is this a club or a restaurant?

By FoodieGirrl |

For the love of God Randolph Tavern, please turn down the music just a little bit. Other than that they have a really good beer selection than the food is standard pretty good. If you want the very loud, and obnoxious bar/restaurant experience and come here. If you want that kind of experience minus the full wearing the music in your ears stay far away.

good place for lunch

By Ted F |

A vendor took me to lunch at Randolph Tavern today. It has great ambiance. The food was good. I had the veggie burger and sweet potato fries. The other person had the steak salad. The service was very good. Though it was lunch time, I did look at the beer menu and found it to be very good.

Elegant And classy

By wilder2010 |

The warm atmosphere and homey feel was a wonderful find in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city! The drinks were off the chart and the food was delicious! Loved every aspect of our visit!

Ok on a good day

By wrigley16 |

Have been living near here on a temporary basis and have stopped in a few times. Never walk out feeling very excited .... It is cavernous and usually half empty or more and the food is average. You always walk out thinking somewhere else people must be having a better time. Skip it

Great place to get a drink.

By N T |

Enjoying a Goose Island 312 in Chicago. Great for people watching and hearing the Chicago downtown noise. Staff was nice, but the pretzel was not that great.

Ok but nothing special

By Irwin F |

Food - brisket platter and pulled pork sandwich - was adequate but ordinary. The root beer BBQ sauce was very good, though. Service was indifferent; my wife waited quite a while for our server to remember to bring her study drink.

Great spot for a beer and a bite of food

By kuips2 |

Great downtown location with parking garage across the street. Southern style food and great beer selection. Wonderful atmosphere. Been here many times and always a class act.

Accros the street from Hotel Allegro

By Mister_Fisshh |

Dinner is ok but not special. The beer selection is extensive and also the winelist is ok. And the prices are reasonable.

Slow, Inattentive, Poorly stocked

By JPBuddy |

Stopped by early evening on a Friday. Out of all 3 ciders on the menu (seriously poor attention to details). My wife decided to just having water, yet no refills on her water all night...little attentiveness at all. Very good quesadilla.

Meh meal

By Emily S |

I went here for dinner as it was across the street from my hotel (Allegro). It was a Friday night and pretty busy. The waitstaff was fine, but when I asked for more time to decide what I wanted, I was pushed into picking something. There were some interesting beers on tap. The food I had was okay -- a chicken wrap with spinach and a little corn salsa. It came with fries that were lukewarm. Overall, it's a fine place for drinks be, but it's not somewhere id go again for a meal.

Great place to grab a bite!

By dawnbV4651XD |

We stopped by for lunch before going to see a show at the Cadillac Theater. Service was very friendly and we were greeted with a smile. The food was great-we ordered the chicken wrap and the bacon mac/cheese-both were delicious! The chicken wrap was stuffed with chicken. We were so happy with lunch, we returned the same afternoon, after the play, for dessert. The colossal carrot cake was AMAZING-moist, flavorful and large enough to feed an army!! If you like carrot cake, don't pass this up! The tall/dark handsome chocolate cake was also FANTASTIC!!! Next time we are in Chicago, we will definitely return!

Highly recommend but avoid showtimes

By Rodney L |

Would highly recommend this place if you're looking for comfort food at an affordable price. CAUTION - since its right next to the theater, avoid times when shows are getting out or starting - it will be busy. We ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and BBQ appetizer. It came out super quick and both were absolutely delicious. Service was great!

"Meh..."

By Ann60093 |

Live in the neighborhood and had never been there for dinner -- only drinks. It was a Friday night about 7 and the place was jammed - at the bar, bar area and restaurant - the after work crowd meets the tourists and the pre-theatre goers. The noise level was more than ENERGETIC! Pre March Madness on the multiple TV screens added to the "atmosphere." The food was just okay but I didn't expect much: Got the combo plate of pulled pork and pulled chicken, with fries and a teeny cup of dry-ish coleslaw. The most frustrating part about this meal is there was only one BBQ sauce available and it was too spicey. So, I ate the fries, dipped the meat in ketchup and brought the rest home where I can add my own BBQ sauce and make a great sandwich! My companion ordered chicken enchiladas accompanied by black beans and rice and some greens; it was deemed acceptable. The portions were more than generous. Make note: they don't take reservations after 4pm... it's a walk-in basis. Clearly they have no problem filling the restaurant, though it does clear out about 7:30-7:45... the bar scene keeps on.

Not as good as previous visits

By Cindy M |

We've been here a few times in the past years for dinner before a show. It is nice and convenient, being right across the street from the theater. This time, several of us ordered the burgers and they weren't as good as before. They were a little bland, and not very juicy. Someone else had the fish and chips and said it was OK, nothing outstanding though. I will say, we love the pretzel appetizer though, and they meatballs are good too. If we come back again, I'd consider getting something else though, since it is close to the theater.

Randolph's Tavern - Chicago

By rodra2016 |

Very cozy. Music very good. Nice variety of music. Went on a Sunday and the menu was scaled down, as not a lot of restaurants are not open in the downtown area on Sundays. Would have been nice if had access to the full menu. Just across the street from Allegro Hotel.

Poor Service, but free meal

By Eric P |

My family was going to a play, so we decided on an early dinner. After putting our name in a group that came in about 15 minutes after us was seated before us. Needless to say this ticked me off and I made the staff aware of it. We stayed and were seated shortly and our waitress was very friendly. After taking our order we waited for our food for close to an hour. Our waitress kept apologizing and the manager stopped by and told us our meal was on the house. I'm not sure if we'll go back here again, but I appreciated the staff realizing our bad dining experience

Not too much impressed

By EHF |

Stayed in the hotel across the road and wanted to have an easy dinner on my last evening together with a colleague. It's a sports bar, with bar food, bar atmospere (very noisy) and bar drinks. Soo nothing special, except the price. We had 2 beers, 2 glass wine, shared wings and had Jambalaya and a burger as main. The bill was USD 80 + 20% tip = USD 96! This is way too much for what we got!

Pub with great food

By WendyBirdie |

Quiet enough for a business meeting but busy enough to know the food's good. The service and food were both really good. I had the enchilada verde. I asked for no beans and to add avocado, no hassle. White rice had fresh cubed tomatoes which I really liked. The others had ahi tuna salad which looked amazing and a pub chicken club, no complaints. I'll be back with friends because I really liked this place!!!

Average and noisy tavern

By ChrisSingapore2015 |

Had a solo Friday night early evening dinner here in early Dec and had a variable experience. Was quickly seated away from the very noisy bar, and was brought a menu very quickly and a beer a minute after it was ordered. The calamari starter was delicious and an enormous portion, but the medium rare steak and onion rings I had ordered as a main meal arrived when I was only half way through the starter. I sent it back and explained that I would like my steak served in about 20 minutes time - the waiter obligingly agreed, but then served the SAME steak to me about 30 mins later. By then it was tough and dry, and the onion rings soggy, having been sitting under the warming lights all that time, which was denied by the waiter. I didn't feel like making a big issue of it, as by then the place was very full and noisy and the wait staff were struggling to cope, and nor did I feel like waiting for another steak to be prepared, so I left having had variable service, a couple of good beers, a great calamari starter and a largely inedible NY Strip! Would I return? Probably not...

Great variety on the menu.

By ChgoLvr2 |

I was so happy to see lunch business picking up at Randolph Tavern. I have tried a number of things on the menu and haven't found an item I don't like. The shrimp tacos, mahi mahi tacos, salads and various bbq offerings are very good. Today I tried the mahi mahi special with lots of vegetables. I was going to ask our server if the chef would turn the nachos into totchos, since they do have tater tots, but I went the healthier route and enjoyed it very much. I also sampled a cup of the chicken gumbo. It was a very generous cup and it was extremely delicious. I look forward to having that again. It was a filling, stick to your ribs kind of dish. I could easily make a meal out of that. It would be a great place for happy hour and even suggested it to my office manager.

ok for drinks

By Mike S |

Was recently in Chicago and stayed at the Allegro across the street. We were walking back from "The MILE" late on a hot sunny Saturday afternoon and decided to quench our thirst here due to the convenience. It was 4:00 and the place was literally empty.... however this place is massive and goes on forever. We sat near the front of the restaurant on the leather couches and chairs (6 of us).... We ordered beers and waters to start and our server was a bit clueless..... She brought our beers and forgot the waters..... and then a few of us reordered a second beer and she then brought our waters and forgot the round of beers..... Seriously...... the place was empty.....can't blame it in on being busy..... Thank goodness the beers were cold. I can only imagine if we actually ordered food as well..... There are lots of TV's above the very long bar and there were a few guys watching baseball and golf. Based on this limited experience I don;t think this would be a destination restaurant but more of a convenience place

Nice place for a drink and a game

By lmstrad83 |

Just happened to walk in while looking for a place to grab a drink by our hotel. I was impressed by the rather large drink menu and variety of drinks on draft. The bar is covered with large screen TVs and we had several games to pick from to watch. This place looks like it can hold a large group for happy hour or late night drinks.

Good for happy hour

By Ellen Y |

We stopped in here while staying at the hotel across the street. It was a great happy hour spot with appetizers. Crowded at lunch, closes at 7pm.

Really nice upscale bar/restaurant.

By Todd P |

Really nice upscale bar & restaurant with a descent menu & pretty good drink list, but the wine list is limited.

Food will not disappoint, but not a place for a sit down dinner

By YumsT123 |

The food in Randolph Tavern is great. I've tried many things and each thing has been wonderful. The only downside to this place is that it's way too loud with the many people who are there and the loud music playing. Very hard to have a conversation where you can easily hear what people are saying and not have to shout yourself (which only adds to the place being loud). Great for a quick bite or drink, but not for a sit down dinner.

Kitchen closes at 825pm?

By Ohio Disney Fan |

Property is sizable and attractive. Beer selection was reasonable. Service was slow. Kitchen closed before 830pm. Would like to have tried their food, but alas the kitchen issued their last call while I was talking to a colleague. Really left me in a food lurch so to speak.

Good place for business travelers

By Mark P |

I was on an exhausting business trip to Chicago and the Tavern was near my hotel. My inclination was to go to places I had been to previously, but it had been a long day it was near the hotel. I had the brisket and it was pretty good. I've had better bbq, but not after a long day at the office. The service was excellent. The beer selection was pretty good. The food arrived promptly. The bartenders were friendly and helpful. I went there twice on my trip and the second time the bartender recognized me and asked how my trip was going and when I would be back. All and all this is the perfect place for a business traveler. Pretty good food and no hassles.

Good beer and eats!

By Derek N |

We popped in a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere - and the selection of beers. Recommended.

Casual and comfortable with a touch of class

By Jasmine D |

Randolph Tavern was the perfect spot for after-work drinks with friends. I could also see it being a great spot for a good pre-theater meal, as it is across the street from the Cadillac Palace Theater, and two blocks away from the Oriental. I had the rosé (with bubbles), wings, and tater tots, which made for a surprisingly delicious combination.

Hipster Heaven

By Mary Z |

If your intent is to see and be seen, and you are under 30, this is the place for you. Yes, it is convenient to the theatre district, but that is the extent of its strong traits. It is SO LOUD a party of two must yell to be heard, and even then you will only catch a part of the conversation. The food was good but portions are on the small side for the price. The wine was expensive. The bartender was nice and attentive. But, never again.

Dinner Before Theatre

By Maggie B |

My husband and I stopped for dinner before the theatre on Wednesday night. The dining room is so noisy, we couldn't talk to each other. We each ordered a mixed drink. The waitress came back to let us know that they had no whiskey or brandy. She said it was something to do with switching their inventory??? I had street tacos, and my husband had chopped salad. Food came quickly and was just OK.

Outdoor seating and close to the theatres

By Allen21096 |

The Randolph Tavern is almost directly across the street from the Cadillac Palace Theatre and is located on the northeast corner of Randolph St. & Wells St. There is outdoor seating on both sides. We had gone to The Cadillac Place Theatre for a matinee of "Aladdin" and since we got out at 4:30 p.m., we thought we would stop and kill some time with dessert at the Randolph Tavern, before hitting the Kennedy Expressway. The server was really nice and brought us extra forks and we shared two huge pieces of cake, one the colossal carrot cake and the other the tall, dark & handsome chocolate cake. I guess there were a few carbs because all four of the grandkids passed out on the ride home.

Needs some work

By btoad |

Went for dinner on a Friday evening. Really slow service (we thought our server was brewing the beer). Food ok. Bathrooms were not clean and no paper towels. They really need to work on the little things.

Disappointed - looks can be deceiving.

By Dogger70 |

Looks like a nicer tavern across from Cadillac Theater so we thought we'd give it a shot. Tried the spicy tuna tartare app. Not spicy. Not much tuna. Pretty blah. Had the burger. Frozen patties that tasted like cafeteria burgers on a nicer bun. Cocktails pricy. Only gave it as high a score as I did got decent atmosphere, location and cleanliness. It's too bad because we come down here all the time for shows and looking for decent places for eats and drinks.

Great food and the staff was wonderful!

By mmargo3537 |

Right across the street from the Cadillac Theatre. Food is excellent and the staff was great! We had special food needs and the staff helped to ensure the meal was made correctly. While they could have charged extra for this, they choice to charge a very good price. We had the BBQ Brisket, Brick Chicken and chicken with asparagus. Everything was cooked perfectly and arrived hot and tasty. The staff kept our drinks filled and was not in a hurry for us to leave (like some places).

The joint rocks

By BosoxKen |

Went here for lunch with some colleagues and it was very good. The place is HUGE and it gets loud so don't plan on any quiet conversation. The menu is expansive with something for everybody and pricing is akin to some of the chains, like Applebee's. There are a lot of tv monitors so while you may not be able to converse, you can still be entertained. The service was good, food was good quality though fries were a little cool.

Great Restaurant, but not open for late dinner.

By Gregory L |

This is one of my favorite establishments while visiting downtown Chicago. We stopped here for lunch when we arrived on Tuesday and were not disappointed. It was a beautiful Chicago day and we sat outside on the patio area. We had fantastic cucumber martinis that were perfect, clean and crisp. I had the lobster roll which was as good as the lobster rolls in the Boston area. The service was attentive and efficient. The only drawback came the next night when we decided to take a group of friends there for a late dinner around 9:10pm. We were told the kitchen was closed and they were taking last call. (The Tavern advertises that it stays open to 10pm!) It's hard to believe that an establishment in a major city like Chicago stops serving food at 9pm in the vibrant downtown area, but Randolph Tavern does.

Ok

By Fantito |

Good beer selection and the brick chicken was good but was not done on the grill as the waiter said but on a skillet, no biggie. The other bbq plates my friends had looked good and didn't hear any complaints.

Great food and service

By Firemanphoenix |

This place had a nice menu and great service. I was there for a 2day trip and had lunch there both days.

Very good, but with flaws

By Lindsay R |

Went here before a show. The beer selection was good and the mixed drinks were great (we got a bloody mary and a moscow mule). The prices for drinks was reasonable compared to other drink prices in Chicago. The food was great also. The bacon wrapped meatloaf, pulled pork sandwich, and brisket sandwiches were great, except they falsely advertised the slaw on the brisket sandwich as apple-fennel slaw when it was actually regular cabbage slaw. I brought this up to the server; she had a little attitude but checked with the kitchen anyway. She confirmed it was regular slaw because that's "all they had", and she made me feel like it was an inconvenience on her part that I asked. (I would not have gotten that sandwich if I knew it wasn't fennel slaw, since I am a huge fan of raw fennel.)If you order anything here, make sure you get what's advertised. Also, after our order was taken the service went down the tubes. We only saw our server 2 times afterwards and had to get our own to go boxes, and it took forever to get the bill. The quality of the food and drinks are what boosted my review, not the service.

Good Location but Noisy

By emkute |

As others mentioned, the location is great for the Cadillac Palace Theatre. During peak periods, it may be wise to make an advanced reservation with Opentable. The place was busy but efficient. The food variety was good and was a cut above bar food. The place was noisy. The seating is mostly bar stools and I kept having a sensation of slipping forward in my seat. Because of the location to the Theatre, I might return but I would not otherwise seek out this restaurant.

Shame about the service

By Lydia W |

This is a nice bar, contemporary, good selection of beer, great to hang out with friends. The food is good and quite reasonable but the drinks are expensive. I was really disappointed and likely won't return due to the waitress, Megan. She didn't know the menu and when I asked a question she was really quite sassy and rude! It ruined our visit.

Nice craft beer selection

By lovetotravelusa |

We stopped in here for a drink. They have a pretty nice selection of craft beers. The service at the bar was good. Very neat place overall, love the decor.

Outdoor seating was the attraction

By emmaretto |

We were staying at the Hotel Allegro across the street so we thought we would stay close for drinks. It was a nice day and they had an outdoor patio so we chose to go in. Service was slow and not too friendly. There was one waiter for the whole patio so things took a little longer. Typical bar food and drink menu. But I will say the food was really good as well as the drinks. We had Caesar salads, pulled pork sliders and tater tots. Moscow mules were good. So really the only downside was the service.

Convenient theater location

By BrandiStacey |

This restaurant is right across the street from the Cadillac Palace Theater. Great craft beer selection. This place would go from good to great with more wait staff during the dinner hours.

Great experience!

By THEJetSetGirl |

I was in town for work and wandered in on a Thursday night. It's a very large establishment but I was seated immediately. My server Valerie was very helpful with the menu and craft beer selection. The tacos al pastore were the best I have ever had! I appreciate they have a rotating selection on tap and your standard bottles. Note it is very loud so you conversation will be elevated.

Saturday Afternoon Relaxation

By Jeff H |

Some reviews said the place was loud. We hit it right at 2pm on Sat. Great meal and service. Try the Bacon Jalapeno Mac & Cheese!

Pleasant surprise

By tonyc1118 |

Visited this restaurant for the first time today. We were going to the Cadillac Theater. Just had the burger and drinks.. Wow the burger was fantastic and our Server was timely and polite and excellent as well.. Will go back.

Parker says "You still have it!!!"

By Parker Sturbridge |

I've been here multiple times over the years while on business trips and this place is great for a solo businessman who needs a corner of a bar, a television, a beer and some really good food. Well, I came here with some family for a Chicago vacation and this place still does not disappoint. Great food....the burgers are outstanding, as are the fish shrimp tacos and salads. Nice beer selections from traditional to bizarre but awesome. Check it out....great place for lunch, drinks or dinner.

Great location, okay food, lots of big screen TVs, not a place to go for a quiet, relaxed dinner for two

By ssvvpp |

My lady friend and I stopped by Randolph Tavern on the way to a Saturday evening performance of the musical 42nd Street at the Cadillac Palace Theater. We needed to eat but didn't want to over-eat before the show. The food and the service was good, about what one would expect, but not particularly noteworthy. She had the Beet and Goat Cheese Salad (nice looking, but a bit heavy on the beet vinaigrette) and I the Mushroom Burger (a bit over-done and dry for "medium" and with raw purple onions rather than the advertised caramelized onions). The Kiwi (tasted more like lime) sorbet was a very large portion but fairly bland. We had to chase down our server on more than one occasion. Perhaps the press of NCAA basketball tournament was more than the staff could handle. Overall, it was an okay experience. Next time, when in the area, I would opt for one of the many other good choices including Roti, immediately across the street.

OMG! BEST FRIGGIN BURGER EVER

By Silvia A |

on April 9th, we decided to go to Randolph Tavern after seeing River Dance at the Oriental Theatre. BTW it was great. We got seated right a way. Then I ordered the Tavern Burger. OMG! the most tender juiciest burger I ever had. The meat like butter, juice running down your hands like Manna from heaven. Go there, run there don't pass go. I love loved it.

Great location, mediocre food

By Tom V |

The Randolph tavern has a great atmosphere and location near the Cadillac Palace theater. Service was also good and very friendly. Food, however, was bland and average at best. The Korean beef tacos were tasteless and cold. The wings were fine but nothing better than you would get at BWW. French fries very greasy. Good selection of beer. House white was cheap. Service was quick and our waiter was great.

Happening Place

By Dave S |

We went to Randolph Tavern before a show at the Cadillac Palace Theater. The place was packed but we got seated before the time of our reservation. The service was good, the beer list impressive and the food was exactly what you would expect at an upscale tavern. Try the bbq - the sauce is outstanding!

Disappointed

By Kevin F |

We were looking for lunch and checked out the reviews on tripadvisor. The reviews were so so and we were hungry. We ordered chicken wings and a Thai salad. Not very difficult to make right? First, the chicken wings were cold. Second, the only way I knew we were eating a Thai salad was because that was what was on the menu. It was pathetic. Also, the service was average. Too bad, it's a really neat looking place but a poorly run establishment.

Tasty Breakfast with Kind Staff

By ElliottThompson |

We really enjoyed our Sunday morning breakfast here. Really, I wasn't expecting much considering I thought it would be more of a "hotel restaurant" but I was very wrong. There were many diners who clearly were not staying at the hotel. The food was delicious! The menu was filled with traditional items and some unexpected offerings. The staff was kind and attentive without pushing us out the door the second we finished our meals.

Just Okay

By Jeanne M |

Stopped here to have a drink and a bite to eat. I had a cup of the gumbo and it was very good. Unfortunately, the market fish sandwich my husband and I split was not so good. Deep fried and heavy on the breading. Fries tasted like they had been sitting a while. Overall service was good. Would seek out other restaurants before coming back to this one.

Loud !

By Harroun |

If you've had a good day in Chicago, you're feeling great and decide you're in the market for some noise induced hearing loss and mediocre food, this is the place for you. We went there at about 6:15 on a Thursday evening and the noise was deafening. It had been recommended and the host gave us a "quieter" table. We were barely able to understand the waiter due to the noise and my wife and I didn't share much conversation. She had the barbeque pork sandwich and I had fish and chips. They were fair. They were out of several beers. We were thankful to leave.

Great Food

By Tammy S |

We were staying across the street and decided to try Randolph Tavern. I had the brick chicken which was very moist. My friend had the lobster mac & cheese, a little spicy but she enjoyed. Have large pieces of lobster! Only thing was our waiter was not very good. We found him on his phone when we went inside to get our own refills. Spice lobster and my friend was out of tea and water. Would go again as food was great!

Service - why none!

By Ramona61036 |

Chose this restaurant due to proximity to our hotel. Service was an absolute joke - there was none! Don't know if they are always this short staffed or simply don't know how to run their business. Food was mediocre at best - once we finally received it. Server was even snippy - overall a pathetic Chicago dining experience.

Great pre theater restaurant

By Lady T |

A group of us went to this restaurant prior to going to the theater and it was perfect. It is very strategically located across the street from the Cadillac Palace theater and a large parking garage. We had lunch prior to our matinee and everyone enjoyed the food. Three of us had salads, two had the veggie burger and the other had the chicken club. I added steak to my salad and my friends had salad with chicken. The steak was tender and juicy and it had the right amount of dressing. I tasted the veggie burger and was pleasantly surprised at the flavors. I will order that next time. The portions were plentiful and they brought the food out promptly given that we had a set time for the show. Don't be fooled by the information on google. It reads that they are not open for lunch, but the info on google is obviously incorrect.

Yoo Hoo, I’m thirsty!

By Jean F |

As we walked in the hostesses were friendly but restaurant was uncomfortably warm for October. After we got seated drinks were immediately ordered and it all went downhill from there! Service was Poor! Server barely paid attention to our needs, we needed silverware/app plates and had to search for water refills too! House made Mushroom soup has NO mushrooms, tater tots were too salty, poured my beer and it didn’t even have a HEAD on it. I ordered a BBQ sandwich and it came on a plate with No Bun, I had to ask for my BUNS! We thought to ourselves, what is happening here!! If you don’t like HOT Zesty BBQ Sauce, Bring your own because that’s all they have! I asked for a milder sauce and moist towelettes and I was S.O.L.! I had a bland sandwich with no sauce on it. I’m allergic to Spicy Sauces so I won’t be going back for their BBQ sandwich. It was an unbelievable casual dinner! I did hear the burgers are ok.

Competent, convenient, consistent

By Mamiya7 |

My wife an I ate here last Saturday night. We have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. I was particularly impressed with the 18-hour smoked brisket. It was tender and done to perfection. It was a nice portion of slices, but not overwhelming. This place is convenient to theaters and the opera for a quick before the show meal. They have a nice list of craft brews as well as interesting bottled choices. It comes at a good price point.

Large bar just west of loop

By Martin P |

Large cavernous and later at night quite dark bar occupying a prime corner plot just off the loop. Bar staff are characterful, prices are reasonable. Good drinks selection but disappointed by food.

Fall of the bone ribs

By Anne K |

We stopped in for a late lunch. The place was nicely quiet--I suspect it's much more lively in the evenings. The ribs were delicious.

$15 Fast Food Burger

By GuidoTheKilerPimp |

I have been here a couple times now for food or drinks. Lunch visit where I liked what I got and my friend didn't but I don’t remember what either of us had. One time for just drinks; a little pricey but a good selection of beer and booze. Dinner once and I had the chicken and waffles; this was good and I had no complaints. This last visit I had a hamburger. This was the saddest excuse for a hamburger. The wafer thin chewy patties were a little grisly, well done, and about what you would expect if they had been factory made from odd parts of cow like things, cooked, frozen, thawed in the microwave, placed under a heat lamp before being tossed onto a stale bun with other low quality ingredients. I am always wary when my foods comes out super quick. Usually that means it was already made fast food style and hastily assembled by the “chef”. I guess the cold blue cheese slab on the burger was okay; would have been better if it had been placed on a cooking burger and got warm or maybe a little melted. The bacon also was passable for any Denny’s Burger. Okay I looked it up The Red Robin down the street from here you can get a burger and fries for $10.25. They have good burgers (I am not a huge steak fry guy but they are okay). I have been to a Red Robin at least a dozen times and I have never had a bad burger, its not gourmet but good. Great gourmet burgers: Farmhouse, 25 degrees, Scratch kitchen, Umami Burger.

Just had lunch. Decided to visit to have something other than a sub. I tried the jambalya which was tasty. Will differently visit again.

Average burgers and extremely loud

By Olle Q |

We went to the restaurant our first night because it was very close to where we stayed. It was a nice first touch of America. A lot of locals, very loud and decent hamburgers. Nothing fancy but a decent meal.

Good beer choice & great Mac n cheese.

By badfly |

Popped in as it was just across the road from the Allegro, actually the beer choice was really good a and I had the best mac n cheese for ages whilst waiting for some friends to turn up. Service was a bit lax after you have been seated, they definitely aim themselves at the pre & post theatre crowds so close surprisingly early for a big city.

Good food and friendly service

By Heidi M |

I went here because it was across the street from my hotel. It is a large restaurant with lots of seating, a long bar and several TVs to watch sports. I was surprised they weren't more busy as the food was very good. I had the pretzel with dipping sauce and then the chopped salad which was delicious.

Nice Tavern

By Christine |

I have seen some not so good reviews on Yelp so I am compelled to tell my experience. It is a nice tavern, located in the theatre district with good food and friendly attentive bartenders. We were there to watch the Cub Games (sorry they lost) but as MET Fans we were happy. Our food, we ordered appetizers, came out quickly and they were very good. I would recommend going here before or even at a show. We have to shout out to our bartender "Greg" who was very nice and made an amazing "loop manhattan" along with serving great craft beers!! Thank you!!

An average pub in the heart of the city

By Keith M |

Warm and full of locals - service and food is good and at a reasonable price for downtown - nothing that sets it apart but worth a visit

Great selection of custom crafted beers and tasty food

By Pearlllama |

A block from the Hyatt place hotel. They have an excellent selection of custom crafted draft beers and a decent choice of options for food. I had baked chicken with Brussels sprouts and heirloom tomatoes. It was very good. They have TVs behind the bar for you sports fans. Service was friendly and the atmosphere that was very pleasant.

First visit highly recommended

By tahoe100110 |

Great atmosphere and food my husband and I split the bbq that gave you a taste of the 3 that were on the menu. Brisket was excellent as the chicken and pork. Tons of fries! Wonderful service as well.

Awesome Spot

By liketotravelplaces |

We were starving after our flight and this place which was close by my Wife's Company Condo came highly recommended.our Server Jameson was hustling around making sure all his Tables had great and fast service. He did a fantastic job Serving us. We had the Deep fried Pickles..Yum!, also the Meatballs equally as good and the Pork Belly was outstanding. To round off the Appetizer feast we had the Three dips and Chips. The Draft Beer I had(KROMBACHER) was fantastic and served in a KROMBACHER Glass which was a cool glass. Very busy place that seemed to slowly empty after 8:30-9pm I would highly recommend this place .

Noisy

By LDL1965 |

Food was okay. Very very noisy atmosphere and difficult for our party of five to hold a conversation. Music was loud and all of it had loud beating during our entire meal. Service was not bad, our food arrived in a timely manner. But our overwhelmed waiter was a bit slow and first failed to divide our bill as asked and then divided it incorrectly.

Reasonable bar restaurant

By Dennis C |

The menu is what you would expect from a US bar restaurant and the service is fine. The food is acceptable if a little cold on delivery and a little light on taste. It is fine for a quick meal and there is a lot of space to relax. Not bad but could be better.

Very Nice Tavern.

By Jack D |

Nice atmosphere and the service was very good. The beer selection was excellent. We had a good experience twice and recommend this tavern.

Noisy, Pedestrian Food

By JimmyMc |

Met a colleague here for lunch on a weekday. It's in downtown Chicago. Of COURSE it's busy at lunchtime. However this restaurant looks like they've skimped on staff numbers, making service slow. Also extremely noisy, making it hard to have a conversation. I had the jambalaya, my partner the tuna tartare. Neither was very good. The jambalaya was tasteless slop. The tuna not much better. It was like cafeteria food. No thanks.

nice friendly bar

By Anne D |

Hubby and I had a glass of cab each and a hummus appetizer late afternoon on a Saturday. Very enjoyable. Friendly vibe and welcoming ambiance. The hummus plate had chips, cucumber slices and carrots. It was a perfect snack. Flat screen TV's were showing the afternoon games. It was relaxing.

Great Find

By smokeyellow |

Staying at Hyatt Place downtown. Didn't want to drive so decided a short walk to Randolph was a go. Food was great, fried chicken and side of corn and mashed potatoes was amazing. The noise level was over the top a lot going on. Menu was varied something for everyone, vibrant bar as well. Recommend!

Noisy, sport, nice spot for after-work drinks.

By Steven H |

I was staying at the Allegro so I went there one evening. I had the tacos, they were great. The service was reasonable for a busy night at a sports bar. I got a solo seat at the end of the bar and watched baseball. No one bothered me, no one really coddled me either. So, I suppose it was about what you could expect. The locals were the post-work set. It seemed like everyone there was the post-work crowd. Eating in this area is either extremely high end or chicken shack or closed after the work day. I found my visit here to be nicer than fast food but not cloth napkin and candles.

Swanky Steakhouse

By GreeneMomma |

Despite being busy on a Friday evening, service was sooo FAST!! We literally waited no longer than 10 minutes from the time we ordered our food to it's arrival at our table. My chicken salad was sub-par and my husband said his burger was "OK." Chicken quesadilla appetizer was amazing! Next time, I will order that as a entree. Their craft beer selection was fun and seasonal.

Expected better!

By Ron W |

Great location for dinner before a show since this is located in the Chicago theater district. We went for dinner before going to see Beautiful at the Cadillac Theater which is right across the street. Being a Friday night the place was packed but fortunately I made reservations. We arrived 15 minutes earlier than our reservation but we were seated right away which was great. A lady before us checking in was told a 45 minute wait for her party of 2. The service was excellent but the beer I ordered was not very cold and the sangria my wife ordered for $12 tasted like store bought sangria with some fruit added. We ordered the fish & chips and buffalo chicken wrap which came very quick given the huge crowd in the place. The buffalo wrap was good but not much in the way of "buffalo". The fish & chips were excellent but for $17 I would have expected to have more than 3 small pieces of fish. Fortunately for me my wife didn't finish her wrap so I at least had something more to eat. Both came with fries which were excellent though. I switched to a Captain & diet coke after dinner to kill the 45 minutes we had before heading to the theater I took a sip and noticed 3 things. My glass was cracked, it was not diet coke and I could taste no Captain's whatsoever in it. Our server promptly replaced the drink which was appreciated. The cracked glass I can see being an easy thing to miss ( I used to tend bar, it's dark) and even the regular coke vs. diet but please don't skimp on a $9 drink! We won't rush back that's for sure.

Large Sports Bar

By Kimberly C |

If you want to watch a game or celebrate a casual event, this is the place to go. The tavern is quite large and above average in terms of the look and atmosphere. I had a burger to-go and it was pretty good.

Good Plan B

By carpediem1010 |

Saw Loves Never Dies at Cadillac Palace last night and made reservations at Catch 35 however with grueling traffic, and slick roads, did not have ample time to keep our reservations so we parked near theater and luckily found this nice place nearby. No reservation, but on Wed table opened after 10 mins wait. Alerted serve we had less than hour to eat and run to catch show, Speedy Service!! She had our plates out within 10 mins. Agree with another reviewer, Sangria was pricey and tasteless however my beef brisket with tator tots was Amazing! No additional sauce needed as the flavor was spot on and tender.

Great place to spend a Happy Hour and stay for dinner

By Marilyn M |

The atmosphere was lively, the staff hopping and yet very pleasant, the bartender very attentive. We liked it so much, we went back the last night in Chicago. Not overly cheap but good food at fair prices.

Good Place for a Drink & Apps After Work

By Bonnie T |

I have met friends several times at Randolph Tavern after work for drinks and appetizers. The restaurant is very large, and there is outdoor seating (weather permitting). The drink options are vast, and the service is very good.

Everything Was Very Good! Great atmosphere!

By Sue L |

Had dinner with a couple of friends here. My first time and I was excited to try it. I loved the atmosphere, crowded and loud in front but as we were led back to a table, it was much better. I was suprised at how big the space was. There was a smaller menu, yet it had so many options on it that it was hard to choose. I went with the shrimp appetizer and the green bean side. Both were excellent! My drink was very good too. We felt we had great service all around, and I cannot wait to go back and try something else from the menu!

Fish and chips were horrible. Soggy fish served on top of soggy fries. Service was fast but cooks should have taken more time to crisp up the food. They were not that busy.

Impromptu lunch

By Lesley T |

Went here for a quick bite as it was right across the street from our hotel. The food and service were really great and it was reasonably priced for the centre of Chicago. Worth a visit.

Average food, too loud overall

By Georgia P |

Eh, the food was average. The environment was entirely too loud. Pack earplugs and extra napkins because I don't even know how you make a chicken patty that greasy.

Highly recommend if you are looking for great comfort food!

By Christine Weatherby |

This was our first time at Randolph Tavern and we look forward to returning. Our server, MELISA B., was amazing! The food was great. We enjoyed dessert (we were celebrating my daughter's birthday).

Great location, food was quick

By lizAustralia |

We had a great meal. As a vegan they graciously suggested various choices for me and the meals were great! Gluten Free meals included too!

Very Convenient To Cadillac Palace Theatre -

By Lawrence V |

The Randolph Tavern is about 25 yards from the Cadillac Palace Theatre and is very convenient for before or after theatre dining/drinks. The food is good and reasonable relative to some other options in the immediate area, You can get a steak for $30.00 or a Sandwich for $15.00 - so if you are on a budget downtown, this is a great option. Decent selection of interesting beers and mixed drinks. We found that the service was average primarily because the waiters had too many tables for the theatre crunch time. It was still an acceptable service level though. Summing it up, good food, decent prices and extremely convenient to the theatre.

Food was good but too loud!

By Patricia58P |

I've been here a couple of times, this time I dropped in late evening for dinner. Blackhawk game was on and it was very loud! I ordered voodoo shrimp and grits which was good but not memorable. Service was just fine but I would say this is better visited with friends
