Below expectations

By Amy E |

Steak was good. If this was my only review for a $50 ribeye steak then I would include that it was way too expensive considering that price was just for the steak. However everything else ordered was below expectations. I wanted a baked potatoe with sour cream and butter and the server suggested the chowder? Then suggested the $12 marble potatoes in a bacon Cream? More like bacon grease? It was luke warm and disgusting actually. The blueberry muffins they bring out at first look great but dry and blah tasting. After the server said the beef tenderloin colognes was the best pasta dish imagine the disappointment when in cans out in a small cereal bowl and over cooked so had the texture of mush. Presentation was lacking, logistics of food being delivered from upstairs made no sense for hot selections either. No salt and pepper available on the tables but the Cotton candy at the end did make me smile.

Not really certain what happened

By Peggy A |

We don't want to write this restaurant off entirely. Before my husband received his medium filet, the general manager kindly notified us that it had been overcooked and another was being prepared. The steak arrived at our table very RARE. It went back to the kitchen. That steak didn't return but another steak did and it was medium rare. He ate it. The kitchen went through 3 steaks! My bolognese was quite good but only ate a 1/3 and told the waiter I'd like to take the rest home. It wasn't boxed, but taken away. The tableside Caesar salad was also quite good, but would recommend the server not open the romaine package with his teeth. There are plenty of knives on the service cart. The GM was so kind as to offer my husband oysters while he waited for his steak- it was a tray of oysters along with beautiful shrimp. He only had a few, but a nice touch, nonetheless. We hope this restaurant bounces back and would like to go there again on our next San Antonio visit.

Party of 8

By Laurence |

We went on a Friday night with a group of friends. Everyone loved it. Apps: Deviled eggs, fried blue cheese olives and Jalapeño hush puppies, all were good but we agreed the hush puppies were the best. With 8 of us every one had a different entre including Steak, Lobster, Chicken, Pasta and Pork, everyone. Sides were Asparagus, Cheesy Jalapeño grits and Cauliflower au gratin. We were so full from dinner but we still split dessert, the Mississippi Mud. We enjoyed everything and would recommend this place to anyone wanting to have a good meal and nice surroundings. Oh when they bring your check you also get a plate of cotton candy.

Not sure why the bad reviews

By Alicia M |

The negative reviews almost turned us away. Glad we didn’t. We were staying at the hotel there and took a gamble. Our server was very polite and helpful. We enjoyed our food and it was a nice change of pace of the kids menu not the usual. Free blueberry corn muffins with pink peppercorn butter! These were sooo good! Personally we would recommend.

Hidden Gem

By vaughanm1976 |

I was staying at the Embassy Suites Downtown/Riverwalk. Arriving rather late in the evening I had resigned myself to another burger in a hotel restaurant/bar. Range is located in the Embassy Suites building with a lobby entrance. I was pleased to find a full menu including 44 Farms Steaks plus they were featuring Lobster week with a 3 course lobster meal and dessert. Hard choice but I opted for the lobster meal and it was very good. Very generous portions of cold lobster on the lobster salad. Very nice cup of lobster bisque and then lobster thermidor. Mississippi mud pie for dessert. All in it was a very satisfying meal. Service was great.

Poor Service

By Adventure741628 |

Went here after driving all day to get to the hotel. Asked if they can handle gluten allergy and they said they could. As my wife and child are sensitive. We explained it clear to the waiter. Ordered the fish and a steak. Told them no bread crust on the fish, which the failed to do. They made another and apologized a lot. This was fine until dessert. They gave my daughter ice cream but it had crushed waffle cone at the bottom. Asked for another and when they brought it back it looks like they just scooped it iut if the other bowl and made some sorry excuse of it was a design. Sure enough a few bites in and she ate some pieces of cone. Talked to the staff again with more apologies. Told them pretty lazy of them. They did comp some of the meal to make up for it. But dealt with my kid not feeling well for the night. I won't ever return to this place and suggest you find another place to eat.

A very good restaurant

By peacefuldb |

Jason Dady has opened another restaurant in San Antonio. This one is connected to the Embassy Suites on the Riverwalk. Outside patio overlooking the Riverwalk is pleasant in the evening. We went to Happy Hour first. Nice long bar, versatile cocktail service. Friendly bartenders. They have a Chardonnay and Simi Cabernet on tap. The red wine was served a little cold at first I guess due to proximity to the Chardonnay? It did not take long to get to proper temperature. They have a small menu for happy hour. Small bites. We tried their deviled eggs-delicious. Then we tried the vegetable cruditee with Ranch dill sauce for dipping. The asparagus, green beans and pea pods were poached and chilled. This is all served on ice and it was very refreshing. Usually in bars you get all things fried. Nice surprise. Next time we will try the oysters! We then went back later for dinner. Downstairs they have some tables that have tall chairs then another section are regular restaurant tables. Upstairs is another area to sit, the kitchen is glassed in so you can see them working up there. They have a very knowledgeable Sommelier. Extensive wine list and he knew about all of it. We started with the caesar salad for 2 prepared table side. Classic Caesar salad. For dinner we had the special ribeye prepared to perfection-perfect char outside and medium rare. The sides are to be shared family style. The Cauliflower gratin with Gouda cheese is enough to share and delicious. One in our group has Celiacs so gluten free was imperative. This is pretty much a scratch kitchen so they were able to handle that with no problem. Nice atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff and you could see the teamwork. They looked as if they were having a good time working there. They are happy to spend time discussing your meal with you so your experience is top notch. Highly recommended. We are already planning our next visit there.

Great Eats but not for the budget minded

By Dolphin913 |

We had dinner here this week before a show at the Majestic Theater. We told the staff when we arrived that we had a time limit. We arrived ninety minutes before show time. We ordered the table-side prepared Caesar Salad which was excellent. My wife had steak and I had red snapper. Both were excellent. As a side, we had creamed spinach. Every item on the menu is ala cart. This really drives up the dinner costs quickly. Our bill was $122 without wine or drinks. Dinner is not served with bread as it should be. There is no salt and pepper on the tables and when you ask for it, they come by with a salt or pepper mill. When we were ready to leave, we waited 15 minutes for the waiter to return with our check only to be told that their computer was down and it would be a longer wait. This was ten minutes before our show was due to begin. They finally wrote down our credit card number and said they'd e-mail the receipt to us. This never happened either. Would I eat here again? Probably but they have a few bugs to work out. One weird thing we noticed at other tables, when the meal is over they deliver a large bowl of cotton candy. This way you can leave the restaurant sticky and in a diabetic coma.

Excellent for our Event!

By Txtrigeek |

Went for a private event, and the staff and food could not have been better. Everything was phenomenal - the wines, the beef, potatoes, mushrooms...though the shrimp tacos earned my blue ribbon. That is, until the desserts came out! Excellent evening!

Fantastic

By Stephen F |

Perfect place to eat before going to the theater! Wonderful food. Great cocktails. Outstanding service. What more do you want?

Very Pleased

By Traveler3539 |

My husband and I went to the Range as part of a birthday and Christmas lights on the river evening. We were staying at the Embassy Suites and decided to try the Range. They were very busy that evening but were timely with our meal and service. Our food was very good and the price is really comparable to other better restaurants along the River. My only negative would be the seating is really not conducive to a quiet, romantic dinner but we knew that going in. We definitely will return.

Dinner before Theatre

By Heidi M |

We typically love an early dinner, sitting at the bar enjoying their unique appetizers and oysters. Last night we joined friends before the theatre so tabled it! The bar was inaccessible due to a loud group that had commandeered the bar! (maybe a bachelor party)! They eventually had to "carry out" some of the party members (maybe the bartender should have cut them off)! But table dining was fine! Unfortunately the food wasn't! First, they had a sign outside for a lobster pre fixe dinner!! We were eager to order only to be told they were out of lobster!! HUH, ya think they should remove the sidewalk sign!!!! Our guests had the tableside caesar salad! TOO MUCH dressing and it tasted more like mustard (which was added, not sure we've ever had a caesar dressing with mustard). Ended up being a very soupy/salad mixture! The Chicken, artichoke pasta....had very little pasta and was more like a soup! AND TOO MUCH SALT!! So, salty my husband couldn't finish it and later felt a little queasy ! If there is a next time, we will stick to the Aspen fries (which never disappoint) and Oysters......though we neglected these as it's not a month with "R"!! Old wives tale??

One of my favorites in San Antonio...

By Socks_N_Crocs |

While in San Antonio one of my favorite restaurants to dine in is Range. This restaurant has an outstanding drink menu and some talented bartenders. The fresh oysters are amazing and something that I always try to get while visiting.

Terrible, bad service, terrible food.

By Chef Richard |

Seriously a 1. Management drinks, bartender has no clue. Taste and service really lacks. I have no clue how to say, the restaurant is terrible!

Hotel Restaraunt

By mkjbs |

Had dinner one night here. There is a large bar area. Dinner was good, but it seemed overpriced for the amount you got. Also our waitress just didn't seem to hit it off with us. They give you blue cotton candy on a plate when you get your bill, it seemed strange and out of place.

Phenomenal Experience!!!

By Terri W |

This was truly an incredible experience in every way! It began with great cocktails from the bar. Next, the sommelier made a terrific wine suggestion for the five of us to enjoy. He took great care to decant and explain the wine, as well as answer all questions. Our meal began with multiple appetizers, that included the Parisa, which is an incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned tartar. The Meatballs were also so very delicious! Our fabulous server created the perfect Caesar Salad tableside, which we all shared. We ordered filets and New York Strips which were cooked to perfection. Each was fork tender and just amazing! The addition of the sides, like the crispy Brussel sprouts, potato confit with bacon cream and the smoked Gouda Cauliflower gratin were absolutely decadent.....and to top it all off, we ordered dessert! We plan to return to Range again and again. We are thrilled to have Range downtown!!!

Better options

By Lisa F |

Would not recommend. The hostess only allowed us minimal menu because they were closing in a hour but the table next to us had full menus. We both got the filet and it was not good. Charred on the outside and too rare on the inside. Too salty and the sauce on side wasn’t good. The potato’s were good the asparagus was burnt. The margarita was good. And our waitress was attentive.

HmmmmGood

By PROPRGAL |

We only took the opportunity to dine at the Range twice but it was so, so good. I would strongly recommend it.

Great small bites!

By autumnd112 |

Visited for pre-show drinks after a recommendation from the front desk at the hotel we were staying at. The oysters were super fresh, the wine on tap was good, and the hush puppies were great, too! Bartender was super nice, too!

Racist to the fullest

By Sabrina T |

Waited 20 minutes to take our order. Got my husband order wrong . The waitress lied and said we called her an “idiot” . Told the chef , the chef came down to our table and yelled at us and told us to leave. Snagged the food from me and another business partner we were with . Told us to leave and they refuse service to us . We spoke with Director of Operations, called the cops , and nobody did anything even the manger on floor watched the whole thing but kept silenced . It was the most racist thing we have ever experienced. I was embarrassed and hurt to see that racism still exists in this world .

Won't be here long.

By hermit |

This place will exist only because it is in a hotel. The floors were filthy. The food (roast turkey, fix price) was salty, the turkey was dry, the veggies were inedible. Merry Christmas.

Good food.

By roxie52017 |

Steaks were yummy and the Alamo Beer was good. Good staff and nice bar plus patio dining. I would visit again.

Just Opened

By Mike E |

While staying at the San Antonio Embassy Suite, Riverwalk we found this new restaurant. How lucky we were...... Our dinner was outstanding, starting with Corn Chowder, the table side prepared Caesar Salad and then the great Filet. After dinner our waiter brought us fresh made Cotton Candy. Great place to dine and I might add the Chef/Owner is a James Beard Winner.

Chef Dady does it again

By anesdoc22 |

Chef Dady continues to grow his empire and continues to hit it out of the park. His latest, a traditional chophouse, has great ambience, wonderful food and amazing service. I received a lot of attention from the very helpful sommelier and attentive waitstaff. And I loved the cotton candy at the end, even if I was too full to completely enjoy it.

Sad. Sad. Sad.

By Bridger A |

Menu has one steak, I understand covid but as his steak house I would expect something more. But that is not the reason for the poor rating. starts off by questioning that someone would order appetizers like he was shocked that’s what someone would do that at a restaurant (which we should not have done) Then for each course they auction off plates, mind you they abruptly said they’re starting ordered on one side to the other (which is fine but perhaps say start with the ladies then work to the men, or whatever but don’t forget the order then ask who ordered what) Then drops the checks in the middle, after already getting it incorrect on three splits. So service continues to decline, food is lack luster, no quantity check before the plate comes out. Server never asked how things were, I didn’t touch two out three plates, you tell me.. I see this spot coming up for lease very soon.

Bday Dinner

By William H |

Called a got a reservation at 8. Arrive and are shown to a table near the bar - not upstairs (didn't know there was an upstairs at the time). Waiter was good but food took an hour after being ordered. Ordered steak medium and it came out rare , maybe mid-rare. Sent it back. Came back little more cooked. Was ok but frustrating it was not cooked properly in the first place. Waiter and manger apologized and comp'd desert . Did have some nice whisky's which helped. Had good conversation with my wife but an hour for an undercooked steak for $$$ is too much. Would not go back. Should have been told that our reservation would be downstairs - didn't know and thought the restaurant was only on the bar level. Loud drunk table behind us.

pre theater dinner-too slow service

By Jane S |

We went last night before going to the majestic and the food and drinks were generally good but the service was way too slow. I ordered the beef and sent it back because it was rare and I ordered it medium. It was returned still under cooked-now medium rare. No one ever asked if it was OK or if the meat was done. I had to search for the waitress to get out check and left without dessert; they did offer to save it for us until after the show. When we got it tasted OK but looked like poo.

Overpriced needs better service

By Marcelo G |

I went here with my family for New Years. They only had a prefix menu, one for kids and another for adults. The place is very nice and and well located, food was really good but not excellent. Unfortunately it was expensive 125 for adult menu + 50 for wine pairing. I have paid less for Michelin star restaurants. Our waitress was nice however the place was clearly understaffed. Service was just ok. They mixed one of the wine pairings but later corrected at no cost. In general I would say that it is a good place but there are better options in SA for a lower price.

Great space for an event

By Ddb2422 |

Great place inside the Embassy Suites Hotel that has space to host events. Had over 150 people for a dinner event and the place was amazing. Staff provided great service. Food is good but we had over 100 people. Some fish and steak came out not cooked all the way. Over all good place to eat.

Impeccable

By angieb5966 |

This was the highlight of our visit to San Antonio. Everything about Range was exceptional. Every bite we took was divine, and our server Raquel was beyond amazing. Kudos!

$125 per person!!!!

New Year’s Eve disaster- made reservations for NYE party of 14 in town from several states - was given menu to view but on NYE they refused to allow us to order from the menu they had shown us when booking in person as we were staying in hotel

Terrible Service

By Holly O |

I brought my family here for a special birthday dinner for my husband. We sat outside which was very nice to see the holiday lights. Our waiter Cesar was very odd. He took our drink order 3 times until he finally got it correct. We ordered food right away because we were going to see the nutcracker at the Tobin. My daughter got her food a salad and the shabu sahbu for dinner. Her boy friend got a steak which was not probably his because it was on the well done side not medium rare. Then 20 minutes later a steak come for me with not the bernaise sauce, but some kind of berry sauce. The waitress was stating yes this is a bernaise sauce. SO she took it back and no more food appeared. I asked the manager for the check and I told him the rest of the order never came. He could not find our waiter. He brought us a couple appetizers that we tried to gobble up before we left, they were fries and the Texas beef tartare, both were tasty. The manager picked up the tab. It was a bit of a bizarre experience.

Range nightmare

By Sharon T |

Considering this is a pricey, high end steak house we were extremely disappointed! The “ jumbo” shrimp cocktail were barely medium shrimp. The steak was served on a white plate with not even an attempt at presentation . The service was poor, with our party sitting well beyond a reasonable time for service. We were never asked if we wanted another cocktail and our overall experience was underwhelming to say the least! Would recommend another restaurant be chosen.( plus they charge $4, for butter for a steak) ridiculous!

It’s a must

By Suza223 |

We had dinner here last evening. Lucas was so amazing ! Made you feel like you were his only table. We started with the Devilish eggs - they melt in your mouth. The creaminess, the salty cheese and the guanciale made it ! I ordered the cast iron filet, medium rare - I have to say it was best ! My side was grilled asparagus. My sister had the cast iron fillet and the tomato & cucumber side. Her daughter had the meatloaf - could not stop raving about ! Her husband also had the fillet - they both chose the green beans. Everyone enjoyed their choices ! The cotton candy was such a treat Thank you a wonderful experience

Service is ATROCIOUS -

By Jacqueline S |

Staff is beyond rude and a disgrace to the service industry. After a long day touring San Antonio sites, we were looking forward to a nice dinner and glass of wine. We decided the hotel restaurant would work for dinner as the stated hours said they closed at 10 and it was a little before 9 when my parents walked in to get a table. They were immediately told the kitchen was closed and they left. I decided to go back in and ask if they could make any exceptions. I was offered a spot alone at the bar, but when I explained that my parents would be joining, I was immediately told by a kitchen staff member that was hanging out at the host stand that only people with reservations were being seated. I then pointed out that the restaurant was completely empty except for a few people at the bar. The two individuals at the host stand quickly exchanged looks and the one chimed in with "well the kitchen is closed". I said, you literally just offered me a menu and spot at the bar, but when I asked for 3 spots the kitchen was closed. Again, more looks were exchanged and you could tell both staff members were tying to think of one other reason for not serving us. It was apparent they didn't want to work the remainder of the night. Finally someone chimed in with "we're out of food" So in the span of 3 minutes we went from, "sure have a seat" to "we can only seat reservations" to "kitchen is closed" to "out of food". Clearly a successful customer service based restaurant is not what they're going for in this establishment. So while I can't vouch for the actual food or presentation, I say that if the quality of the food is any reflection of the quality of staff they've hired, you should skip this joint and head across the street to the nice Royal Blue Grocers for some quality service and excellent take out.

Jason Dady does it again!!

By Steve S |

Jeffrey is a wonderful waiter. Presentation is always featured at a Jason Dady restaurant. It started with the Wild mushroom bisque. Yummy. Parisio received raves from others @ my table. Our entrees were salmon, quail & chicken. All were excellent. Sides paired well & all were creative. Desserts were sinfully delicious. There is a surprise after dessert. I shall not spoil it.

Restaurant week

By Janet S |

We went for lunch on a Saturday for Restaurant week and were very pleased. We had been before by still loved it. Highly recommended the Mushroom bisque, it was fantastic. The parking lot across the street is expensive, street is reasonable or you can valet park and the restaurant will validate so it's only $9.

Huge flavorful steak

By scjjmm |

Enjoyed this restaurant. Beware of the reviews below as they have less than 4 reviews. I am a fan of Jason Daddy’s restaurants, and this one did not disappoint. I love the 1930s decor and floor tile. Our Server Sierra was friendly but could have cleared a few salad plates faster. The old fashioned is delicious. The cotton candy martini interesting. Brussels sprouts appetizer was very tasty and a large shareable dish. My ribeye streak was huge, looked amazing very flavorful, nice crust but was overcooked. Ask for medium got well done with a few ports medium well. Our server quickly addressed this and offered a new steak. I opted to keep so I could eat now. She comped me a drink to compensate. The side dishes were tasty. My friends liked their salmon and gnocchi dishes. I would go back and order my steak medium rare in hopes of getting a medium.

An average hotel dining room

By Gabriel H |

We stayed at the Embassy Suites for a few days and one evening decided to have dinner at Range. It is the hotel's only restaurant. The interior is attractive and it looks out on the San Antonio Riverwalk, There is a full bar, with pleasant cocktails and mixed drinks. The wine list is of interest and well-priced. Service was spotty, slow and not very effective. The place was practically empty when we patronized it and the servers still couldn't get their act together. Dishes came out at different time and delivered to the wrong customer. The Calamari Frito Misto was quite good; the Burrata was swimming in olive oil (!); the roasted gnocchi were somewhat burned, but the Bolognese was very good. Certainly it will do if you don't wish to leave the hotel, But improved service and greater consistency in the quality of the food would be welcome.

OMG is this place awesome!!

By Pam C |

If you are looking for a great high end steak house - look no further! The service is impeccable! Our server, Alexander, made great recommendations for appetizers and dinner alike. The food - yummy delicious! The wine list - remarkable! The beef tartare was not what I expected but delicious! Beef, cheddar cheese, arugula, with a light mayo sauce. Table made Caesar salad for 2 was enough for 3 or more! Our filet melted in our mouth. The cauliflower and the bacon potato sides were nummy!

Impeccable steak

By Travelqu |

I am staying at the hotel so I didn’t have to seek out this restaurant. However it has good reviews and I didn’t feel like walking around. That being said I was quite delighted when I received my filet. Perfectly cooked on arrival with a crunchy crisp exterior and sides that were simply delicious- Brussels sprouts and Gouda califlower au gratin.

Excellent Staff Good Menu

By sbc |

This is a very friendly and welcoming restaurant in the Embassy Suites Hotel. There are some very good items on the menu, such as the flatbreads, particularly the spicy peperoni with fresh jalapeno, the meatloaf and the ribeye. But what truly makes them special is the staff. I regret not getting the names of everyone I interacted with while I was there, particularly the manager during the evenings who greeted diners at the bar and tables and makes you feel welcome as well as cultivates a fun experience, Chennai and Scott at the bar particularly stood out! They offer great advice on the menu and drinks, really engage customers in fun and interesting conversation and deliver the ultimate customer service. The staff makes this an exceptional experience and a must visit in San Antonio.

Range ranges from great to so not worth it

By MarcyAg82 |

Went for dinner with my husband before a show downtown. What a disappointment. We had reservations and were seated promptly. That was the last thing done in a timely manner. Our server had two speeds slow and disappeared. Muffins served and apparently we were expected to eat them immediately. Waiter kept trying to take them before we finished. I ordered salmon, my husband steak and we shared creamed spinach and button mushroom sides. Steak was undercooked and not rested as all the juice ran out at the first slice. Salmon was good if under-seasoned. Spinach was lukewarm at best. Mushrooms were delicious. We would have told server but he disappeared into the hotel for more than 15 minutes right after food was served. Drink specials were twice the price advertised. $170 for a cocktail each, 2 sides and our entrees. The Cotton candy usually served at the end of the meal wasn’t even offered. Will think twice about dinner here again.

Fantastic food

By nycourt35 |

We saw they were running a special for lobster and decide to try it out. it was one of the best meals we've had in a long time the soup in the salad where to die for. The lobster tail was perfect. And then we thought it was all over that came out with mud pie that was over the top we basically waddle out of there. Service was excellent. For the price it was a wonderful deal. Highly recommend. They also gave us cotton candy before we left. Very cool spot.

Fabulous dinner!!

By stephaniesurendran |

We visited Range tonight for the first time and I already can’t wait to go back! Everything was excellent from the service to the ambiance to the drinks to the food! The filet cut like butter! It could have easily been cut with a fork and the flavor was out of this world! My husband got the snapper and he loved it too! We started with the meatballs and they were bursting with flavor! The personal touches like the blueberry muffins with pink peppercorn butter and the cotton candy at the end made it a fun experience! Jason Dady hit the nail on the head with this one!!

Worst room service ever!

By Andy K |

Staying at Embassy Suites, which offers Range as their in room dining option. Ordered food that took over 1 1/2 hours to be delivered. Appears server wrote down wrong room number 108 vs 801. Since it was wrong room, food sat in restaurant and delivered after I called to check on it. Hot food was ice cold, salad was swimming in water. Server apologized and asked for credit card to charge me. As I complained and told her I didn’t want awful food, she offered to hug me. What a horrible experience for $50.00.

So while staying at the Embassy

By Tracey M |

So while staying at the Embassy suites we stopped in there one night to have a glass of wine, Cabernet to be exact the way to explain Dash they chill the regular Cabernet and we could have a choice of two other wines. My friend had a glass and then we decided to leave with $17 per glass of decoy we can buy the bottle for 22 most places. The waiter had a witch and bark actually was a bartender had pretty much of an attitude. Don’t bother

Oh the Oysters

By Gager2010 |

Went to celebrate a friends birthday last night! The service was outstanding! We sat at the bar and everyone was so friendly! The Gulf Coast Oysters are a must and the Cotton Candy hits the spot! Highly recommend this place and it’s Restaurant Week!

Dinner In San Antonio with Great Friends

By Gazzanna |

We walked passed during the day and we popped in to have a look at the menu. Service and Food outstanding. Red Snapper epic - Fillet 10oz absolutely stunningly seasoned. Waitress Carla was brilliant and nothing was to much. Hopefully we will pop in again when we are back in from London again. Keep up the great work.

Dinner

Ordered roasted chicken and it came out raw. Thus should not occur at a restaurant that commands these type of prices.

Best SA bartender Ryan

By j H |

Ryan made the perfect dirty martini and was very attentive and a great host. The world needs more people like Ryan for best customer service. we truly enjoyed the drinks food and staff. we will be back because of Ryan's attentiveness and attitude. must try!

Excellent Food and Service.

By AlmostFamousRocker |

Their salad was fresh, large and well prepared. I had the salmon...delciious as was the asparagus! Service is good. Prices are a little steep but during the day the prices are a bit more tolerable.

Raquel was Great. Food was amazing

By Rhonda B |

Raquel made are night out great. Loved her energy. The food was amazing. We had a wonderful evening.

Never that good

By DD S |

VERY SLOW SERVICE. Good bar. Tiniest gulf oysters we've ever seen. No good bread to eat with soup or salad. Saltine crackers only even with beef tar tar. Mushroom bisque not as good as it once was. Plan to spend time waiting on food

Wonderful food, atmosphere and service

By Nancy E |

This restaurant was so good! The service is the best it could be! The food is all very good (it is expensive). Even though it is a super nice restaurant, you will see people dressed very casually to very nice. The steaks are the best around!! You also must try their brussel sprouts...yum!

Best Steak and More

By travelerstomaine |

Surprise! I doubted that there could be yet another steak house in San Antonio and Texas better than what was already a full market. I was so wrong! These were the best steaks AND this was much more than a steak house. The menu is full of creative sides and entree's that extend beyond the amazing, succulently seasoned and seared steaks. Even the martini was the best ever and made table side. Come and enjoy this special occasion mecca of culinary delight.

The help is rude

By josh c |

I decided to take my family to have a dining experience and was met with probably the rudest hostess that I’ve had the displeasure of dealing with. When we entered the restaurant, I asked the waitress how come no one was having dinner because it was roughly 545 in the evening. Her response to me was that people in Texas eat their dinner between seven and 9 o’clock and if I did not want to eat at the restaurant the exit was located behind me or to my left. becoming frustrated with the situation I chose to just leave. I exited the restaurant and had intended to go on my way, as I was leaving. The woman turned to someone else and in front of three of my children told the other server that she’s glad someone like me was not eating at her restaurant when my children came and told me what had happened I went back into the restaurant to speak to the woman, and I asked her what she was referring to because I’m nothing special but I’m a man that owns his own house owns his own business drives nice vehicles and tries to treat everybody with respect so if I were someone looking for a recommendation, I would never go to that restaurant Sorry for the rant.

Server was simply terrible in every way possible

By caleb05 |

The food was good here, but expensive. When we saw the prices on the menu we assumed the service would be out of this world good. Not. We were so wrong. Our server acted totally "FRANTIC" at all times. He hurried us, flew through all his actions, and just made us feel stressed out over his loud voice and rush, rush, rushing around. We had to remind him/ask twice for drinks after having asked the first time. He just was too "fast and furious" for us three to enjoy our meal. Was a shame. Food was fine but overpriced. Usually a manager of this type of restaurant will come around to the various table through the evening and ask people how they were enjoying themselves, making sure all was satisfactory. There was no one who looked like a manager there. I can only assume that a 30 something woman with a laptop, sitting by the hostess stand, may have been the "manager." If so, she didn't manage anything or speak with any guests throughout our 90 minutes there.

Great Service. Great food. Great time!

Give this little gem a try when you are in San Antonio. I was worried as we walked into the Range as it was attached to a hotel. I have not had great experiences with restaurants attached to hotel knowing how much we were going to spend. However, they changed my mind! They have a farm to table philosophy and it showed in the delicious dishes. The steaks were great, the pasta was perfect, and they had a Chef’s choice four course meal with wine pairing that received rave reviews from some trusted friends. You will leave with a minor dent in your wallet, but the time spent was worth every penny. This is a “date night” place and not good for children.

What a nice surprise!

By TeamTitsMcGee |

We were a bit skeptical about this restaurant because it is located in a hotel. However, it was fantastic! The chef has been creative with his spin on more traditional dishes, giving the meal an exciting feel. Everything was cooked to order and the presentation was great. When the check arrived we enjoyed our ten gallon hat made of delicious cotton candy! Don’t let the fact it’s in a hotel fool you. Give it a try, you’ll be glad you did.

We enjoyed The Range during

By qv09vvp |

We enjoyed The Range during restaurant week in San Antonio. It is located in the embassy suites downtown so more if you use the valet parking eating at the range gives you a 10 discount on the parking. Service was excellent. Food was outstanding. Atmosphere was just ok. I expected more for this upscale restaurant. Overall we would go again for a special occasion. Check out the meal pictures. Let me know is this was helpful.

Good food - nice ambience but my group seated by the kitchen

By BethanyPhillpstravel |

Pleasant surprise to discover a new restaurant during annual convention... surprising it was located in the Embassy suites Nice space on river walk, nicely deorated Tableside martini cart and nice drink selection Food good/great and served family style Staff attentive to a dairy allergy in our party My only complaints were 1) two other large parties in upstairs space and my group of 15 were placed in long table angled by the kitchen door 2) strange smell of bleach down by bar when we had oysters and champagne prior to dinner

Suprisingly and Interesting

By Brian H |

My wife and I booked here for my 40th birthday on a whim since we were in town and boy were we happy to have done so. The decor and ambiance fit us perfectly and the service was impeccable. Besides all of those things, let's get to the real reason anyone reads these reviews and that is the food. My wife got the 10 oz fillet and I got the quail. The quail was very good, grilled perfectly and it was the worst dish of the group! My wife's steak was a perfect medium rare and the fois gras topper was the second best item of the evening. We shared the brussel sprouts and the manchengo hush puppies as well as the table side ceaser. All of these were delicious although my wife thought that the hush puppies had a bitter after taste. Surprisingly, the caeser and the brussel sprouts were very memorable but the star of the evening was the pink peppercorn butter served with blue berry muffins. This has been a wonderful dining experience and would love to come should we ever find ourselves back in San Antonio

Table top Food

By DanCarmo |

The chicken was supposed to be fantastic, ours was a tad dry. this is a strange concept restaurant. It's located next to the lobby area of a mid-range hotel, and the signage implies more upscale but it's really quite a relaxed atmosphere. it's not white table cloth, it's tabletop western fare. the service was good, the food was good, plenty of options to serve adult needs. This is not a setting for young kids running around.

Eat somewhere else

By madbeaut |

We went here twice while staying at the hotel. It was bad the first time and worse the second. The first was at 10:30 at night. We had just arrived and this was the only place open. The menu was limited. They burnt the burgers so bad they were inedible and the deviled eggs were gross. We were forced to eat here again after a long day and we hoped it would be better with their full dinner menu. We were a party of six and the server had a guaranteed tip since they auto charged 20%. The server was terrible. We did not get any waters refilled. The forgot to put in our side order of cauliflower. When he delivered all else he said I can get it in 5 min. 20 min later we were done and still didn’t have it. When it finally came it had cheese whiz on it. Fine dining restaurant serving fake cheese is ridiculous. The pork was not cooked properly. It was raw in the middle and well done around the outside. Waiter didn’t bring the cotton candy with the check as is part of the dining experience. I could go on but just go to one of the many other choices on this street.

FAR ABOVE EXPECTATIONS

By csg359 |

We were in San Antonio for Christmas vacating and stayed at the Embassy Suites. I am usually disappointed when I eat at hotel restaurants. I find then generally mediocre and higher in price. Range was definitely different. Our 12 year old son was with us. He had the half lobster tail, I had the sirloin steak and my husband had the New York strip. We're from Iowa, so we know great steak when we find it. The steaks were done perfectly and Gianni loved the lobster tail. I thought the lobster tail was small, but I couldn't eat all my steak so G helped me with it. He thought this was the best meal he had ever had. We had the potatoes and Brussels sprouts which we all thought were to absolutely die for!!!! Our waiter, Scott, was attentive and we enjoyed the conversation. We may have to eat there one more time before we leave on Saturday.

(Off the beaten path) Riverwalk gem

By Docbobandy |

Visiting from Chicago - read about Range and went for our anniversary. Wonderful meal and experience. Nice bar with friendly tenders and our waiter was also wonderful. Meal was spot on - fresh, local ingredients, prepared perfectly. At the end of the meal, our waiter placed a large blue thing in front of us that briefly reminded me of my late grandmother's hair after she went to the salon - blue raspberry cotton candy. Quite the surprise, and not what I would have ordered for dessert but it was very fresh, light and delicious! We actually had a blast eating it. It was a very unique finish to a very enjoyable meal. Will definitely return when back in town.

Lucn lived up to Dady's Reputation

By RABabcock |

My first visit to Range and I wasn't disappointed. Starting with the Mini-Blueberry Cupcake with Pink Peppercorn and Paprika was a great start, followed by the Prix Fixe lunch at $20. I ordered an appetizer, Deviled Eggs (more like soft poached eggs) were spicy and good. I didn't see the additional $12 for the Tenderloin with Aspen Frites, but it was still worth it. The highlight of the meal was the Cucumber Salad and Mississippi Mud Pie (not part of the Prixe Fixe meal) were excellent.

Great ending to good day!

We had a late flight in to San Antonio and after we checked into our room decided to unwind at the bar. We had a couple drinks and the truffle fries are SO GOOD! We just really enjoyed our time there and got talk to a few other couples and have some laughs!

Chef Wont Listen they Say

By Foardy123 |

We so wanted a steak - its Texas - right - so we ordered the Beef Tartare for starter and the chap was right we could share their was more than enough - awesome choice - Then we ordered Rib eye and Dry Aged Strip and lots of sides - yay - The steak was soooo salty I tried to eat it by cutting off all the outside to get to the inner steak - which looked horrendous on my plate - I gave up after glasses and glasses of water couldn't do it - I said to my husband sorry cant at it - its sooo salty - he said his was also and the waiter asked hows it going I said I cant eat it - it is so salty that it has spoiled the meal- the sides are great but its ruined by the steak - explained and he said that others had said about it being salty and the chef wont listen - he roved our plates - the lady and her son next to us said they had been waiting to come to the restaurant for a long time and they had experienced the same really salty but didn't want to say - but it had spoilt their dream visit - see a lot of people still wont say when they have a bad meal . My husband said to the waiter he is a chef and that it was over the top and to give that feedback to chef that a few customers saying the same thing - he needs to listen - we were given and awesome desert , that had salty pretzels - we laughed - but off to bed - we cleared out bill - Upon check out we also had another charge put on our room from the bar ( not ours as we have the paid receipt for ours) still trying to sot with hotel -it was sorted as we checked out - but back in NZ it was charged later on our credit card - so always check your bills

Nice job and special attention for a birthday celebration

By TexasJane09 |

Our group of ladies meets monthly and celebrates whoever may have a birthday that month. They took extra special care of us, seating us upstairs for some privacy. The view of the Riverwalk was an "extra". The menu is extensive and has many items one would not expect to have featured on a steakhouse menu. Loved the oyster selection and the table-made Caesar salad. A wide variety of items were ordered, all with many compliments, including two types of fish in addition to salmon. Their "bread" is blueberry muffins (with delicious butter) and each dinner ends with cotton candy. They have a happy hour from 3:00 to 6:00 and 9:00 to 10:00. Can't wait to go back for happy hour and enjoy their special price on oysters. Our waiter was Nathan, who did a great job keeping all of our orders straight and meeting all of our requests.

Excellent Experience

By CH |

Enjoyed a great meal before an event at the Majestic Theatre. The service was excellent. We shared a salad and an entree. The portions were perfect for two ladies. We did share an appetizer of their delicious fries!! So worth the calories! Definitely recommend!!

Server Mistakes

By Weldon B |

We didn't have a good experience at the Range. At first, service and attention was great. I ordered a ribeye. My wife ordered a sirloin. He steak was really, really thick. In fact, it was cut more like a roast than a steak. We both ordered our steaks cooked 'medium.' Mine was almost perfectly cooked. A little rare, but not worth complaining. My complaint is that in an upscale steakhouse (upscale meaning out steaks were $48 and $35 dollars each, side dishes were extra), I would like the server to linger just for a few seconds while we cut into our steaks. Let's find out RIGHT NOW whether our steaks need to be sent back or not. The servers delivered out steaks and fled. What's sad is at that time WE WERE THE ONLY PATRONS IN THE RESTAURANT. No one else was in need of attention. They obviously cook their steaks like many fine restaurants do, over very high heat. The outside was seared perfectly, but inside my wife's super thick steak/roast, it was blood red and not even warm. After a while, I finally got the attention of a server, who got our server, who sent the steak back. After a few minutes, we got most of her steak back, but the pieces she had cut were missing and the side dish we had spooned onto her plate from it's separate serving dish was missing. And we could discern no difference in the steak's 'doneness'. All during the meal, no sign of the server to report that sending the steak back yielded no improvement. When we were done, he showed up and we pointed out that there was no noticeable difference in her steak. He agreed. He disappeared and after a while came back and offered us a free dessert. I would prefer to have the steak comped, but of course the free dessert was much cheaper. My wife choice the cream broule from a menu that the waiter held. We just read the titles, not the description that went with the dessert. Probably our mistake. As it was served, we were told that it was a lavender cream broule. The finish on tops was perfect. But the lavender was kinda strong. The second bite tasted like soap. The third bite definitely tasted like soap. We stopped eating it. Just after our steaks came to the table, an alarm went off with flashing lights and a recorded voice saying to evacuate the building. I told my wife that it was too bad we had just gotten our food, or we could have followed the evacuation command and gotten a free meal. They secured the alarm after about two minutes and of course we stayed. In hindsight, I wish we had left with the alarm.

Great Restaurant/Bar with excellent service

By Tallykaye |

We came to San Antonio on a girls trip and stayed at the Embassy Suites downtown. The bar and restaurant Range was impressive! Thanks to Adam and Nick for making our experience excellent. We consider ourselves foodies and frequent high quality restaurants. The cotton candy with the check is very unique and the perfect end to a great evening. The personalized service and great food made this stop one of the highlights of our trip!

Sucked no service despite reservations. We sat at table but had no service

By evierra |

We had reservations arrived on time. Sat at table for 30 minutes, no service,no drinks ,no waiter while tables all around us were served. Manager and hostess apparently not on game. We understand covid but all other tables were served. A no go and not worth the effort

More than a hotel restaurant

By gr00vdad01 |

Scott was a pro, and guided us through a wonderful meal. He makes a fine Caesar salad, too. Recommend the rib eye and the pork chop. Ask about some cotton candy!

Best Oysters I've had in a long time

By aztravelcpl |

We just happened on this place for some appetizers after a long day on the Riverwalk. Saw the raw bar display sat down in the high top tables in the bar area ordered the deviled eggs and 12 of the raw oysters in the Shuckers Reserve list. Amazingly fresh, bright, and crisp. The deviled eggs were amazing as well. Service was spot on not too busy. will go back for sure next time in San Antonio.

So disappointed!

By amygy123 |

We looked for a Jason Dady restaurant for lunch on a recent trip to San Antonio. The food was really not the quality we expected. We had a chopped salad that listed avocado as an ingredient. We added grilled chicken. The salad arrived, and the chicken was a whole piece, not sliced, and it was over cooked. The salad itself was sad, some brown, and NO AVOCADO.! Our appetizer was too salty, and the sauce was excessively spicy. Not worth the money!

Name says it all...

By JaxMahan |

Options galore to eat... Quail? Host seated us quickly. Christiaan was our server and gave us a quick overview of the restaurant and celebrity chef, Jason Dady. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and recommended several signature dishes. Personable, and a great representative of the cuisine!! Started with a Pernod (Absinthe hint?) and a Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned. Beautifully done. We opted for some oysters (Summerville, out of PEI), followed by the ribeye (large, so we split it), the potato confit, and the button mushrooms. Started with blueberry muffins (which reputedly make your taste buds more receptive to red meat), coupled with smoky red peppercorn butter. Funny combo, but it works! The ribeye was AMAZING!! They sous vide it to rare, in a red onion and garlic marinade, then finish it in a cast iron skillet and in the oven (char of salt and pepper). Coupled with the button mushrooms cooked in thyme, white wine, and garlic. Paired with Rodney Strong Merlot, it was PERFECT. Wow. Just seriously WOW. Dessert... Mud pie ala Jason... phenomenal! Perfectly prepared!! And then, blueberry cotton candy? We felt like little kids again. Thank you for a wonderful last dinner in San Antonio!!

Terrible Service and mediocre food!!!!!

By JoAnna |

Ended up here because we had no reservations for the good restaurants… this place was terrible!!!! Worst service I have ever experienced in addition to having to cover the food items we did receive in hot sauce because it was sooooo bland!!!! Yuck!!!! Would not recommend to ANYONE!!!! Bartenders had zero personality, please find a new job!!!!

Daranged

By William J |

What is the deal with this place? Food took forever and when the steaks got here the food was undercooked.

Excellent steak

By Millin1 |

I was a bit nervous about booking this as I read the previous reviews however we had a great time. Food was excellent, our steaks were cooked to perfection. The sides are huge - each is enough for four people. Service was good.

super disappointing

By Sarah C |

Local hotel recommended on their website as a good place to eat, so on that recommendation I booked New Year Eve Dinner. Nice atmosphere but food was sadly not good. Salad greens were extremely salty, next course too bland, side dishes salty and burned, and dessert okay. I've never left a bad review before --but yikes, the food here is not worth the money or calories to eat. sorry!

I don't recommend this restaurant if you're looking for good food and good service

By Cher P |

This was one of the worst experiences. Their food was too spicy. Their service was not well. And I had to pay $22 for four shrimp that we could not eat and the Italian ice drink we ordered taste like bitter seltzer water. I cannot and would not recommend anybody patronize this facility. They could have told that they would not charge us for something we didn't eat or couldn't eat due to the taste and spice. But they did not. But because I'm an honest patron I went ahead and paid the $22 for the meal we did not eat. I don't recommend this place as I stated earlier.

Delicious!

By Regina573 |

Really nice meal (dinner)....ending with cotton candy was a treat! When we returned and our kids heard we had cotton candy following our meal, my little one started to cry....so we walked downstairs and asked if he could have some and they made him his own cotton candy! Thank you for making him smile!

River Parade dinner package

By canadasandra |

Beautiful venue, front row seats for the parade but buffet just okay...It was way overpriced for the quality...The sides were all good but the meat was horrible...especially for a steak house...the chicken was dry and very little flavour and the beef was rare and liver tasting...Not everyone likes rare meat and it also lacked flavour. It was certainly not a $75.00 meal plus tax, plus 20% gratuity - less $30.00 for parade seat !!!!!!

Way overpriced & trying too hard

By kcoombstravel |

My understanding is this is only six months old. Given the outrageous prices (and I'm from DC), my colleague & I only ordered salad & soup. My potato chowder was excellent. Service was pretty good. My colleague ordered a salad and the wrong one was brought out, but soon corrected. Oddly, you get blue cotton candy as complimentary for dessert. The blueberry muffins were good at the beginning, but they fall apart as you butter them. Really odd - I was alone on one night, eating my soup at the bar. All the stools (which are a horrible fit with the bar as far as eating height) were facing forward. A manager comes out and angles all the bar chairs. A few minutes later, another manager comes out and moves them to be facing front. Little while later, the first manager comes out and starts angling them. Super strange...

Maybe they were having a bad day

By jb2342017 |

I had to get up and ask to have my water refilled. The hamburgers we ordered for lunch took for ever and came out with looked like store bought buns.

Great Steak!

By Big E |

We had the filet and meat loaf - both entrees were perfectly cooked and seasoned - good service. We will definitely be back

Very Enjoyable Meal!!

By BluePlate-Now |

First time here and will not be my last visit! The food and service was great as were the drinks and wine. Most of the menu is Texas sourced! We started off with a dozen happy hour priced oysters and they were large, fresh and sweet tasting. The Pork Loin Chop was excellent, it was two tomahawk size center cut pork chops, our group also had the sirloin and the Korean beef ribs all were excellent cuts of meat perfectly cooked. The gnocchi side was also excellent. John, the Sommelier, made an excellent wine suggestion. Very knowledgeable and wil ensure you get the type of wine you are looking for. Give this new place a try as it is a Jason Dady delight!

Annoyed

By Mel |

Okay, let me first start off by saying the food was great. Our server, quite possibly the most inattentive server of all time. She spent more time talking and flirting about everything under the sun to men who’s wives would walk away from the table that she didn’t even remember she had other tables to wait on. In the hour and a half that we were there, never once did she check on our table. But I could tell you her life story if you asked. And I could tell you the life story of the two men sitting in close proximity of us. It was the most annoying experience I have ever experienced in any establishment. If you choose this restaurant while in the area., bring your patience. Ladies, fare warning .... use the restroom before or after...her conduct, disgusting in my opinion lol

Good time, good food, great dessert!

By tomf1266 |

This was a large business group, probably 80 people or more, the size of crowd that can be challenging to any restaurant. We took up the entire top floor and had a great time. This was our 2nd time, having done the same thing a year ago. We had a long evening and kept the staff hopping but they were up to it. The beef was great, the vegetables were ok, and the dessert was the big treat of the evening. I had a fancy cheesecake dessert with a fancy name that escapes me but you will find it. It was great and was made differently than any cheesecake I have every eaten - great presentation.

Average food. Horrible service

By Rachel D |

Food was ok but just too much extra sauce etc on everything. Service was awful. Rude wait staff. Several tables had issues around us and he would avoid the tables if there was a problem. Would not recommend

A superior experience made better by our quality server Tim

By GM-KevinLatone |

I would not hesitate to return. I would request Tim who was our server who did a terrific job. He was extremely attentive, and was always on the spot when needed. Very nice selection of quality Cabernets. Topped it off with Bourbon Banana Pudding and Chocolate Creameaux, and then a surprise finish with cotton candy, yes!

Gladys

By LUVN-IT |

We were in town for my Great Nephew's graduation from Air Force Boot Camp. The Range is on the ground level of the Embassy Suites Hilton so it was very convenient for our stay. After several day's of seeing the sights of San Antonio we would stop in for a cocktail or two. Appetizer's were very good, we had the meatballs and deviled eggs a couple nights. But, the reason we continued to spend our evenings at the Range was due to the Over the Top and Beyond service that we received each evening from Gladys. Gladys is a fantastic young lady who truly cares for each and every guest that she meets at the bar. Her professionalism, great customer service, humor and smile is FANTASTIC!! I wish her great success in whatever the future holds for her. ANY company that employs her will benefit from her sincere work ethic and customer service skills. Thank you again Gladys for making our visit AWESOME!!!

Tuscan Italian cuisine comes to San Antonio

By Taylor B |

Everybody needs a gimmick to succeed, especially in the very competitive restaurant industry. Take chef Jason Dady, for example. To compete in what is a very competitive culinary market in San Antonio, Texas, Dady introduced a Tuscan Italian cuisine to a city that prides itself on Texas barbecue, puffy tacos, chicken fried steak and sweet potato fries. Located at 125 East Houston Street, in the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Antonio River Walk Downtown, Range offers steaks and seafood with a Tuscan flavor. Open from 11 to 10 Monday through Thursday, 11 to 11 on Friday and Saturday and 11 to 9 on Sunday, Range is in the conversation as one of the top 10 restaurants in a very underrated and unappreciated restaurant town. My wife and I started with artisan bread toasted with garlic butter and fresh herbs, signature shrimp Tuscana pan seared with rose beurre blanc and preserved lemon and calabrese oil, deviled eggs with parmigiano reggiano, baked Wagyu meatballs with sun-dried tomato pesto and San Marzano tomato sauce and a tableside Caesar salad for two with an organic hen egg, white anchovy, parmigiano reggiano and house-made croutons. A meal in themselves but totally delightful and not as filling as it sounds. For her entree, my wife chose Tuscan marinated cast-iron filet mignon with Tuscan potatoes and charred green beans. I opted for Grandma's Wagyu meatloaf with sweet honey glaze and San Marzano tomato sauce, Tuscan potatoes and grilled asparagus. For dessert, we shared tiramisu panna cotta and Nutella Mississippi mud pie. And we've never been to Tuscany.

A touch of Texas charm

By SAWriter |

Great menu and service from local "celeb" chef Jason Dady and his able crew. Wide range of steaks, seafood and special twists, plus a solid, affordable wine list. Don't pass up the delectable theater of table-side prepped Caesar Salad. Some day, I'll be able to leave room for dessert.

So very extremely disappointing!

By Ahhs75 |

Our family are huge fans of Jason Dady! Our dinner tonight was extremely below average and very expensive! It was $472 for 6 people. Because of the 20% gratuity that's automatically added to your check we were forced to tip for very poor and inattentive service. We had 3 filets that were ok, pork chops, red snapper that was actually excellent and terrible Korean short ribs. The creamed spinach and Brussel sprouts were good the potatoes with bacon were bland. We will not be going back. It's in a hotel and tastes like it. Totally takes advantage of the tourists on the Riverwalk with the prices, the quality and the service. A bad reflection on our beautiful city. We're much better this.....

Great quail!

By bsnestrvler |

This place just opened 2 weeks ago and we just happened upon it on a business trip. Rarely do I see fresh, free range quail on a menu so I ordered it. Since all items are a la carte and I was not very hungry, that is all I ordered. While waiting, I were served a nice basket of fresh breads and what appeared to be fresh butter. It was almost too good (& I often don't eat the bread but here I did). The quail was simply prepared, juicy and tender and had just a touch of seasoning-nearly perfect! I look forward to returning to San Antonio and will really try to return to the Range.

Holiday Party Success!

By Stacey C |

We had our holiday party this year in the private space on the second floor. The steaks were very good but, the appetizers were absolutely the highlight of the party! The staff was also excellent and very accommodating!

Very nice restaurant. Food was great.

By Beatrice B |

Had steak for dinner which was one of the best steaks I have had in a while, cooked perfectly along with some roasted asparagus with a sauce that was very, very good.

Wow!

By Vandertraveler |

This was easily the best place that I ate at during my visit to San Antonio. You should definitely seek this place out if you are a foodie like me. Great menus for cocktails, wine, apps and for sure the main course. I had trouble deciding and everyone at the table ended up sharing bites because it was all so good! If at all possible, save room for dessert too! You will not be disappointed with this place and the amazing things coming out of the bar and kitchen here.

Home on the Range!

By sdfincomic |

Enjoyed lunch at Range for restaurant week. The chopped salad was one of the best salads I've ever had (very unique and tasty). The breaded red snapper was excellent and the marbled potatoes and crispy fried brussel sprouts were both very good. Loved the complimentary cotton candy that came with our check. Nick, our server and bartender, was very friendly and helpful. He made our experience that much better. Range also has a great happy hour every day from 3-6 p.m. As a downtown resident, I will make Range one of my regular spots.

Enjoyable meal

By drratim |

This was our first visit to this restaurant. We had a very nice experience. We were seated promptly at our 6 pm reservation. The hopes were to have a great dining experience celebrating our anniversary. Range did not disappoint. The service was superb and the meal wonderful. The waitstaff was attentive. My wife had the salmon and I had the red snapper. The sides are served family style and more than enough for two. The dessert was for two and delicious. Chocolate!! To top it off a plate of cotton candy arrived at the end. What a pleasant surprise. There is valet parking and plenty of parking across the street. We will definitely be returning.

Amazing carpaccio

By D2819YBelainec |

I loved this place! The carpaccio was fantastic, unique, perfectly balanced and served with saltine crackers-which was so fun and the perfect accompaniment to deliver the tiny cheese, meat and mayo combo! The blueberry corn muffins with pepper butter were fun too!

Best Filet Mignon!

By Mark A. |

Conveniently located at the Embassy Suites Hotel. We sat at the bar, bar staff very friendly. Started out with the Caesar salad, prepared at the bar. Homemade dressing with chopped anchovies, was delicious. I ordered the 10oz filet mignon medium rare. Huge cut of steak perfectly cooked, couldn't ask for a more tender steak. Also had a side of cauliflower au gratin. Excellent flavor. Could not have asked for a better dinner!

Don’t get your hopes up!

By Kim |

On arrival it was hard to determine who was staff and who were guests. Once seated, which we did have to wait for as warned which was fine. What I found incredibly poor was having to sit and watch while the waitress blatantly ignored us and chatted with other customers (seated after us). We finally walked out feel pretty rubbish - a zero for customer service from us especially in a market where most places are battling for customers following COVID.

Great Apps

By QDOGG8 |

Range was pretty good choice for a birthday dinner in downtown San Antonio. The appetizers were awesome and my wife loved the pasta. The drinks are also unique and delicious as well. Service was a little slow but the food and drinks made up for it. Will definitely make a return trip.

So good!

By cseveryn |

This is one of my favorites restaurants in San Antonio! I’ve visited 3 times in the last 30 days. Once with a group of 13 coworkers; on Christmas Day for a family dinner; and, this weekend with a group of 14 family members before the theatre. Service has been outstanding each time, even when it was packed on Christmas Day and this past Friday before the theatre. We ordered off the menu each time. My favorite appetizers are the east coast oysters and deviled eggs. My favorite entrees are the salmon and Bolognese pasta. But my guests tried many other dishes and everyone cleaned their plates! The blueberry muffins they bring out as a starter are warm and delicious. The blue cotton candy they surprise you with after dinner on some nights is so much fun. Overall, it’s a beautiful space and great alternative to the much pricier steakhouses down the street.

Nice meal

By BeakerTX |

Parents night out dinner with my wife. Booked a reservation through OpenTable. Was promptly seated upon arrival. Service was attentive throughout the meal. We split a couple appetizers, my wife had the soup, and then we both had a steak. A bit much for two people, but we anticipated that when we decided to get two appetizers. The steaks were cooked perfectly. I’d skip the sea urchin butter next time. Got a couple sides that were ok. Overall, a very good meal. Just shy of excellent.

Best Beef Tartare Ever!

By Eds V |

I'm surprised by the amount of reviews stating the service is bad. I eat here regularly and can say it is one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio. Even to grab a quick bite, this place is fantastic. Service is quick, Staff is friendly and the food is delicious. As stated, get the Beef Tartare

Restaurant Week Lunch

By Flavor Mosaic |

After my friend and I viewed a list of restaurants that offered lunch menus for Culinary SA restaurant week, we chose to have lunch at Range because their menu looked the most interesting. While it is located in the Embassy Suites downtown, it is not your standard hotel restaurant. Range is one of Jason Dady's restaurants. At the beginning of the meal, we were offered complimentary blueberry muffins with a savory butter. We started out with the Range Chopped Salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, and an interesting lemon dressing. I ordered the Red Snapper with a Lemon Beurre Blanc Sauce and the grilled asparagus with Lemon Aioli. Both were excellent. And they offered complimentary cotton candy at the end of the meal. An excellent meal for the $15 Restaurant Week lunch price. BEWARE: A 20% gratuity is automatically added to the check. Secondly, if you add an additional side, like a small serving of potatoes, it will cost you an additional $11!! They don't warn you until you get your bill. I recommend sticking with the Restaurant Week menu.

Very nice place to eat ABOVE the Riverwalk

By Darcy Spady |

This is a very nice restaurant, with a great menu - typical for a chophouse. The good part is that the outside area is above the Riverwalk, so you are not subject to thousands of passers-by. Very good service. Ill go back!!

This isn't food. It's an experience.

By Todd C |

In my 50 years of life, I have eaten many steak dinners. I can confidently say, without reservation, that Chef Jason Dady created a savory masterpiece for me on 9/4. It was almost a religious experience. That's a pretty large compliment to back up, so let me get right to it. I am a fast eater. That trait comes from my military background. Once I pick up my eating utensils, I don't put them down till the food is gone or until I'm full. I don't even set them down to take a drink of my beverage. The filet mignon Chef prepared for me practically melted in my mouth. The seasoning covered my lips with its savory punch and made me want to lick them after every bite. I literally put both my fork and knife down after each bite in order to pause and savor the full flavor. Anything less would have been an insult to the meal itself. I would take a drink of water after a bite or two so I could minimize the existing seasoning on my palette and re-experience the decadence of the next bite. The asparagus? Rarely do I enjoy this vegetable. What Chef made was undeniable. I had to consume every single stalk. Petite Filet Mignon, asparagus, peach Italian soda, and water. To call this a meal is actually insulting. It is 100% an experience. And for the money? You won't find a better deal. It's taken me 50 years to find this one.

Absolutely Awful

Tonight my wife and I went to Range with three other couples. To make a long story short, it took almost an hour for our food to arrive and it was dreadful. One of our party ordered a hot pasta dish and it came cold. My wife and I ordered a steak, medium that came out both medium rare and cold. Another in our party had a similar fate with his steak. We spoke with the manager and he clearly didn’t give a hoot. I don’t think any of us are going back. There are a lot of excellent restaurants in the area. Unfortunately, Range isn’t one of them.

Surprisinly Good

They underwent a big renovation last year. The décor is rustic yet beautiful. The food is similar to Farm to Table. Good steaks. The Range Salad was terrific with house made lemon vinaigrette dressing. Staff provides good service. Good selection of wines as well.

Off my beaten path

I saw a post regarding Restaurant Week, fro Culinaria. A friend and I had the day off, so we decided to go downtown, to Range. We were alarmed by the amount of street construction going on, but eventually we found our way. It was a blustery day in January, so the outdoor terrace was out. Too bad, because it is right on the river, and it's not a real touristy part of the river, so it would be nice, if possible for next time. And there will be a next time! I was captivated immediately by the herringbone-patterned hardwood floors. Our table was as it should be, set with nice linens, white porcelain dishes, and simple, spotless dinnerware. Our waiter was adequate, but the selections on the prix fixe lunch menu were quite tempting. I settled on a breaded snapper in beurre blanc, with asparagus and a chopped salad. The salad was delicious, but I did not have time to finish it before the entree arrived. The fish was excellent, and the asparagus was just the right selection for the side. I decided against dessert, and to finish, we were presented with a plate of turquoise cotton candy. I felt just like a kid, again, as we tore off pieces with our hands, and tasted the spun sugar. Delicious, but the kiss of death to my diet! Our tongues blue, our bellies full, we left, agreeing to come again. It was a very nice lunch.

Good steak

The filet was cooked perfect and the brussel sprouts are amazing! Cheesecake desert was very interesting. Not a fan!

Hit & Miss

You can get a good meal here, but not always. The menu is limited and too expensive. They're charging high-end prices for a significantly stepped-down experience. Like the food, the service is spotty. Best to go for Happy Hour...$5 wine and a $14 burger. Hard to feel cheated at those prices.

Food was a NO-SHOW

By Lynussi |

I would love to be able to review the food from this restaurant but after an hour and a half and a full bottle of wine, we still hadn’t gotten our dinner. After inquiring, our order hadn’t made it to the preparation stage. As anyone would agree, this is an unacceptable amount of time. We asked that they bring our bill. We then walked over to Bohanan’s. After explaining what happened, they immediately took care of us and sent over a complimentary appetizer and prepared our dinners post hast. Mistakes happen. It is how you handle them that makes the difference. Bohanan’s did a wonderful job of correcting Range’s mistake.

Great wait staff. Quick service and excellent food.

Great wait staff. Quick service. Excellent food and drinks. We had a private area upstairs. Couldn't have asked for anything better.

COTTON CANDY!

Delicious drinks and food. Went on recommendation from hotel staff. And they give you cotton candy when presenting your ticket at the end. Never heard of that and it was a nice touch! Highly recommend this place.

Good food but more than any thing a great Maitre, Christian

By FJSJM |

Probably the best Maitre I’ve ever met. On top of knowing his dishes, he had passion for his job, he was is a great communicator who makes you dream about the coming food. The appetizers were OK, not as good as Christian explained, the maim dishes really good (great meat) the desserts really wonderful. Good experience.

Great service

Our waiter Charles was wonderful! Our family visited late one night very tired and frustrated from the crowds. Charles was so patient with us and was able to not only serve us great food but was able to successfully end our evening great! Thank you Charles and Range - blueberry muffins, deviled eggs and cotton candy who would have guessed :)

Very disappointed for a special occasion.

We arrived on time for our reservation at 7:15 pm. We had our two courses arrive very quickly with our drinks. We waited almost one and half hours for the main course to arrive. I saw that the chef, Jason Dady, was there attending the kitchen but seemed very stressed and overwhelmed. I would think with his reputation that this type of dinner would be a “walk in the park”. The value of this experience for a dinner was poorly met by service, management and timing of this dinner. We had our main course almost at 10 pm which was even monitored by management. Still the expectations was lowly met when my partners streak was undercooked. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant as a staple of San Antonio authenticity.
