Great food

By Travelfan101520 |

Check out this hole in the wall place to eat after visiting Dealy Plaza and 6th Floor Museum. It is a dive but has great food and good prices. We always get the cheeseburger and fries. It isn't air conditioned so for those that like comfort may not like this. It is a small place so can get crowded during the lunch time area. Has a few tables and counter seating.

Tiny dive just right

By 2texanstraveling |

Cheeseburger $2.10. You can get it with bacon for extra. BLT right proportion. Mostly bacon then tomato then lettuce on fresh toasted bread. 5 tables and some stools at a bar. No a/c but it was cool in November so not an issue. Quick service. Cheap eats. Yes its a " greasy spoon" but after so many la-ti-da expensive places this was a happy find. Onion rings very good. One order was shared among three of us and was gone in about 4 minutes.. yummy. Cash only!!! "No wi-fi... talk amongst yourselves" the sign says!

A must for breakfast

By AMPWyo |

The review that lured me in was titled "Perfect Dive" and it is indeed that, although I have never see a granite counter in a diner before. It is a small space and we had to sit at the end of the counter by the grill. The short order cook was amazing to watch, flawless activity. Your order was taken promptly and with a smile, the food was solid diner/breakfast food and it was an outstanding value (Cheeseburger, $2.75). A great way to kick off our Saturday morning of sight seeing.

Awesome breakfast

An awesome spot for a delicious low cost breakfast or lunch! Great comfort food. Daily specials around $8!

Great comfort food at amazing prices!

By DavidMedinaPR |

It was great to find out that dinners like the Record Grill in Dallas still exist. Great American comfort food at amazing prices. Better food than fast food at less than fast food prices. I saw the place while scouting the area for some photos I was going to do and saw many workers eating there. I knew I had to try it. I was for a huge surprise. The place is really small and you can miss it. Service is really good and fast. I ordered some enchiladas with rice and beans. they were very tasty. and the price is great too.

Good hole in the wall

By Funtogether3 |

This tiny diner is just a block from the book depository and is clean with good old diner menu and food. Cash only. Nothing fancy but easy and pretty good.

Old World flair with exciting food!

By John G |

When you walk into this place, you feel like you step back in time in an old-fashioned diner. Yes, it's small, with only three tables and seats at the bar, but it more than makes up for that in the food quality and price. A Cheeseburger lunch special is $5.75, and you get a cheeseburger, fries and a 20oz bottled drink. And while the cheeseburger is not what I would call a mammoth burger, who wants a burger the size of your plate that you won't eat all anyway? I give this place five stars because it provides good quality food at reasonable prices, and that's VERY hard to find in downtown Dallas. Are you trying to feed your vacation crew on a budget? Come to the Record Grill! Well worth your visit.

Cash only, inexpensive friendly place near JFK sights

By trixietg |

Stopped in for lunch before touring Sixth Floor museum. Friendly service, inexpensive menu. 4 tables and maybe 6 counter stools; really small. Sounds great for breakfast!

Great breakfast

By Robert B |

A local recommend us to this little cafe for breakfast .Great fresh food and very cheap prices. The bacon is delicous and very crispy. The hash browns tasted like they were home made. This a cash only place. If you want good tasty food and don't want a fancy place. You will love record grill.

Lunch at the Record Grill

By Darktux |

Lunch at the Record Grill, just a few yards from the JFK museum cafe (who were singularly disinterested in serving anyone). Super friendly staff in this traditional cash only lunch counter, generous portions, low prices, spotlessly clean with quick service, thoroughly recommend.

Hometown Best Dive - In!

By TexasTea2 |

I love this place - It's my kind of Dive!! The food is fabulous - the service is excellent - and the workers are friendly. The prices are extremely reasonable - where else can you eat breakfast or lunch for less than $5 and leave full as a tick? Don't go there if you want fancy - go there if you want delicious!! If you are visiting Dealy Plaza at breakfast or lunch time (they close at 2 pm), you should stop here - you won't regret it!

Great affordable food

By muffincakes |

We went here 2x in a 4 day visit because we liked it so much. 1st visit was a diner style double cheeseburger which was awesome (I think it was around $3). 2nd visit was the all day breakfast (eggs, toast, hashbrowns/or grits, bacon/ham/or sausage) for $5 It's a small little place that closes at 3pm (1pm Sat) Closed Sundays. If you are wanting a no nonsense well priced meal go check it out.

Brilliant

Great for breakfast

By k5tm |

This little hole in the wall diner was a great find for breakfast. Prices were very reasonable, the food was individually prepared in full view, and tasted great.

Great place to eat when touring Dealey Plaza!!!

By dwightd1 |

This place was great!!! Fast friendly and reasonable!!! The food was excellent and the staff was so friendly and talked to is while we ate. Great conversation, great food and so much better than the museum cafe food. Wow how lucky we were to find this. Two thumbs way up!!!!

Dump

By Carol J |

The picture makes this place look clean and cheap. It's not. It looks far worse. It's dirty and shabby. Avoid at all costs.

Cheap little dive grill with local character and very near Dealey Plaza. Good value for unique place downtown.

By S4Snowflake |

Just happened to walk into this place after visiting Dealey Plaza and grabbed a burger and fries. Looks like the kind of place that serves awesome breakfast off the grill, but I was there just before the 3:00 p.m. closing time. If you don't want the bland predicability of the Subway or similar, give this little place a try. The staff were quick to serve us and happy to see us. Good local color.

Great food! Great prices!

By AidaTexas |

Cannot beat the food for the price! Locals go here! Police officers frequent this place , as well! Can't go wrong with that kind of clientele! Food is Sooooo good!

Typical Diner Food

By BepaTexas |

If you are trying to avoid heart arrack you might think twice about eating at Record Grill. You can ring a cup of grease out of the onion rings. The hamburger and fish burgers were tasty. Service was quick and the food prices were low.

Very good food after visit to Dealey Plaza

By Amy S |

Very good comfort food after visiting Dealey Plaza. It is very quaint. Prices are reasonable. FYI They only take cash

Great little place

By Kris D |

It was a rainy Saturday in Dallas, we were staying at the Crown Plaza downtown for one night/day only & needed somewhere reasonably priced for breakfast. We walked about 3 minutes down toward the historic area & found this little hole in the wall eatery. Breakfast options were great, delicious & very well priced (breakfast burrito $2.50USD). Not a lot of seating, but it adds to the experience.

The Taste of Memories is Part of the Meal!

By Mark Y |

My wife and I ate here for lunch. It is next to Dallas' West End and is a diner right out of the 60's. The bacon cheeseburgers were made they were intended to be made; on a grill, put on toasted bread, and served with the down home friendly service you grew up with. We sat at the counter where you watched your short order cook do his work, chatted with the waitress, and enjoyed the whole atmosphere time warp. I love the fact they announce they have no WiFi, you can talk among yourselves... This may have been one of my favorite meals in the past few years... it just brought back so many great memories of growing up in the 60's and 70's without the pseudo "blast from the past" schtick... because this place never left the past! Burgers were excellent as were the fries and onion rings, the staff extremely friendly, and you leave full, sentimental, and happy. A great combination in my book!

Cheap breakfast

By Hawg_driver |

Looking for a good breakfast at a reasonable price. Found it here. Place is small and rather dated, but clean and friendly staff. Had two breakfast specials with coffee (and free refills) for $12 (cash only). What more can I say.

Lawyer or layperson take a stool and drool at the plate right and left of you. This place is loved and will be by locals like no other.

Good, simple eating at very reasonable prices

By Debbie |

Looks a little run down from the outside but don’t let that put you off. The owners are friendly, the food is simple but good and it’s at a very reasonable price. Coffee is good too Open for breakfast & lunch only Would like to give it 5 stars but the lack of a toilet may be an issue (there is a notice on the front window saying no toilets, cash only, so it’s not a surprise We will be back

Need to get a good lunch while near the JFK Memorial?

Great lunch specials and good value....I had the Tuesday Meatloaf special....its a working people's place.

Fine dining at it's finest!

By John Doe |

My companion and I were greeted and seated immediately upon arrival. The menu offered a fine diverse selection of meats, chicken, seafood, and salad. Our order was taken promptly without the usual "may I recommend" banter that is so common among 5-star restaurants. Quite refreshing, really. I cannot speak to the wine selection as this was a working lunch and we did not review the list. I can say the soft drinks were cold and appropriately carbonated and the water, while I do not think it was Aqua Panna, was more than acceptable. Or order arrived surprisingly quickly and everything was fresh! Hot things were piping hot and cold items were substantially below room temperature. The ambiance of the locale enhanced our dining pleasure. Also, this establishment has made a conscious decision NOT to offer WIFI so diners might be encouraged to interact with one another face to face. How cool is that?! Our server slipped in and out unnoticed, refilling drinks, removing plates, and delivering the check. In another bold, stand-out move, the owner has chosen to eschew all forms of "plastic" payment in favor of actual U.S. currency! I find this to be quite a patriotic statement and whole-heartedly endorse the choice. Our tummies full of culinary deliciousness, we bade farewell to the staff and, as the price point was remarkably low for such a dining experience, made a point of tipping well above the percentage generally considered appropriate, promising a return visit just as soon as one or the other of us receives yet another jury duty summons. Bon apetite!!

The policemen eat here, must be great

By Darla R |

My daughter and I were looking for a place to eat so we asked the local polce officers, we asked three different police officers and they all recommended The Record Grill so we knew it had to be good. They were not wrong, we had the eggs and hash browns, my eggs were just as I asked for, the coffee was great and we got out for under ten dollars.

Perfect Dive!

By Soccermom844 |

No bells, no whistles. This is the small diner you remember that is bare bones but straight up good food. Nothing eclectic here. I had the BLT with fries--great crispy bacon. Normal sized bread, not the huge rolls or fancy breads everyone has now. Shoestring fries. Normal serving. My companion had the country fried steak (I never make that!) with fries and green beans. He ate everything. Wished we had gotten the burgers or the fried chicken once we saw them on others' plates--nothing bad about our food, but the other options looked soooo good. The place is tiny and we were clearly the only non-regulars. Looking for fancy? Don't go here. Looking for good honest food at rock bottom prices: this is your place!

Classic breakfast counter

By radbrad73 |

You want eggs and hash browns straight off the grill where they literally turn around and serve it too you hot at a vintage lunch counter? This is your place. Old school greasy spoon fare served with a smile.

Just like the kind of cafes we knew as kids.....

By CarolAnn319 |

This place is great for breakfast and lunch. Located just across the street from the Records Building (hence the name). Blanca is the best and always friendly! Very tiny place so get there early! Great prices, yummy breakfasts--- no fake eggs here! Love the meatloaf for lunch. Restaurants come and go, but this one is here to stay!

Great little hole in the wall.

By Patrick O |

Though the place is small. You will get outstanding service and good food that is fresh off the grill. The prices are cheaper than you would think for being in a tourist area. Yes I would eat there again.

Nice surprise

By Jock1949 |

A hole in the wall? Yes Good food and nice/friendly staff? Yes. A little hard to find but not far from dealey plaza and Red history building. Burgers were generous and fresh. Friendly staff that would bath wait on you quickly and talk with you as long as you'd like. give it a try.

Best little place for breakfast

By Susan C |

Best little place for breakfast or lunch! Also probably the CLEANEST place we ate at our entire trip! Terrific food, service, and price.

Are you kidding me!!!

By frhays |

I would have given this place 5 stars but the atmosphere is pure dive. Take that in stride and the food, prices and value are all 5 stars! We shared a baked chicken lunch and man was this good! We got there late (around 1:30 pm - they close at 2:00 pm). The prices at this little hole in the wall are absolutely awesome. You can get a complete breakfast for about $3.50 and daily specials are $4.40. Are you kidding me! This place is run by a couple of young Mexican gentleman and the food is to die for. Don't expect maghoney wood setting but the food is great. About one block from Dealey Plaza so if you are in the neighborhood do yourself and your friends a favor and grab a quick lunch or breakfast here.

Give this a try for your breakfast

By Vaughan W |

Staying for four nights in Dallas and was looking for somewhere decent for breakfast. Saw the Record Grill on Tripadvisor had very good reviews, so we gave it a go. Don’t be deceived by this tiny cafes exterior because inside the food hits all the marks necessary. For the price and service you probably won’t find better. Thoroughly recommended.

Cheap Breakfast

Quick and cheap breakfast while waited for our Sixth Floor Museum tour to start. Friendly staff, quick service.

An affordable place to eat with quick service

By Jody T |

Great, quick service at an excellent price! Above all my lunch was great!! Don't let the outside appearance fool you or you will be missing out.

Great food!!

By Stephanie L |

At first glance, you might not even notice this place, but you would be missing out! They have excellent burgers! They are very nice and friendly too.

Hole in the wall, cash only, best crispy bacon in the universe

By cesi100 |

If I knew that the bacon was crisp to perfection, I would have totally ignored the rest and got 10 slices. Heaven. I did not pay attention to see what the guy is doing. Packed little place, the most friendly lady at the visitor centers recommended it, along with a deli.

Yummy!

By cafemocha34 |

The Record Grill is a must try! It's a tiny little diner a definite hole in the wall! The food and service was great!! It was a little warm in there, but you can take your good to go and pick a bench across the street. I'll definitely be going back! 👍👍

Tasty.

By Caronltaylor |

Tasty hole in the wall. Fast and cheap. Very small. 4 tables and 8 stools at the bar. Nothing fancy but good food at a cheap price.

Great breakfast

By 7G-girlUSA |

My husband and I were staying in a nice hotel in downtown Dallas. We did not want to eat in the hotel restaurant so we went outside the hotel to find a place to have breakfast. To our surprise there were not many breakfast spots open on weekends. My husband finally found this little jewel. It is small, quaint and not well air conditioned but the food was amazing. The best part was we got to sit at the counter to eat and watch all the food being made. We spoke with a nice couple sitting at the counter and they said they drove 30 miles to eat here on many Saturday's. Chicken fried steak was delicious, hashbrowns were unique and really good, and even the eggs tasted better here than when I make them at home. Then to top it all off, when we went to pay the bill, it was such a good value.

Great Place!

By SVG-430 |

The best pancakes I've ever had. The value for the food served it great

Good Diner Throwback

By Gary C |

Saw this building while touring the West End area of Dallas. Looked up the reviews online and decided we would try it. Great idea! It was affordable and the food (especially the pancakes) were delicious. There were no frills, but with food that good... who cares!

Good prices for yummy, homestyle food

By BigHilda |

Reading the other reviews, we thought this would be a good breakfast option that was cheaper than the hotel where we were staying nearby, and we were pleased that other reviews on here are correct! It is small, but we got a table right away at about 8:15 on a Saturday morning. (It quickly filled up after we arrived.) It is open from 6 am to 2 or 3 pm. I tried the breakfast burrito and found it very good, like I would make for myself at home. I also had hashbrown potatoes which were also good and not from frozen for sure. My husband had pancakes and sausage, and he was pleased with his meal as well. For these two meals plus coffee, it was $11.00 which is certainly cheap for Dallas. The lunch specials looked like they would be delicious, but we didn't get a chance to try them. Friendly service too!

Slow Day

By ibcleve |

It was a slow day before closing when the wife and I dropped in. No lunch specials were still available so we had the cheeseburgers. Nothing special, preformed and small patty. Slender cut fries with the special seasoning added after the server asked if we wanted any. Could not get sweet tea so we got Dr. Peppers. I've had worse and better and would only go back if I was already in the area and starving. Maybe the lunch specials are better but do set you sights on a great burger if you are looking for one.

Just Plain Cool

By robm329 |

No frills but a true diner where you sit at the counter and watch them cook your breakfast the way that they have probably done for 50 years. The food is tasty and very affordable. Bacon, eggs, hash browns and toast. Good stuff

Old Diner in Dallas West End with value Meals

By Texas_Travel_1 |

Legend says that Bonnie and Clyde met here. Clyde walked out without paying his tab. Bonnie went out after him and never returned. (Other historians say they met what was then west Dallas.) The Record Grill provides value breakfast and lunches in the West End of downtown Dallas. (Look for blue and white building). My guest ordered the burger and fry special. I ordered the daily specials. Meal was served promptly. The sides of green beans provided great flavor and were not over/under cooked. Mash potatoes were served with a bit too much pepper. Meat was moist, flavorful, and grilled just right. The fans provide some cooling since the Record Grill is not air conditioned. Also bring cash.

Dont let the appearance stop you

By HRA |

Dont let the outside appearance fool you.this little gem is a delightful place for lunch. A menu variety..staff is courteoys and it is located less than a block fron dealy plaza

What a find.

By nigeltaylor11 |

Saturday morning walking to the JFK museum we stumbled upon the Record Grill for breakfast. The Special Omelette was really very good, nice and spicy just how i like it. The place is very small but we got a seat within a few minutes. You can sit at the counter too. The staff are very attentive and made sure coffee was topped up regularly. Very reasonable prices. I would recommend breakfast here.

Fun diner experience.

By lisadh5588 |

This is the kind of place you are happy to find if you need a quick, economical lunch. Very small but didn't feel cramped. The kids had fun eating a tasty yet simply prepared hamburger. The food isn't gourmet but it's fine for a quick lunch. The waitress was friendly and brewed us a new pot of coffee before we left. Overall a good time.

Great Experience

By David W |

Nice little breakfast and lunch spot, friendly service, good traditional diner food. Patty melts were very good and the pricing was a throwback as well. Definitely worth the stop.

A great little dive - cheap and lots of character

By Matthew L |

Absolutely loved this dive. It's simple, low prices, feels like its something from decades ago. My wife and I stopped her for a quick lunch. Got burger and fries - nothing fancy, simple and well made.Loved being able to pay only $7 for a burger.

What a find!!!

By THE SECRET REVIEWERS |

We were staying at the Holiday Inn downtown Dallas and googled where to eat and this place pops up!! We're so glad it did.. because what a find!!! ..the food was absolutely delicious! And reasonably priced too... it had authentic American food and daily specials along with the likes of standard burgers which are 'homemade' like everything you'll find here on the menu at the Record Grill... and to top it off.. great staff too!! Its just up the road from the famous 'Book Depository' on the same side of the road about a 5 minute walk! Highly recommended to anyone!!!

Expectations exceeded!

By Rob B |

I walked 1 mile round trip from AT&T, and it was totally worth it. I was in a hurry, so I ordered my burger and onion rings (which tasted like deep fried heaven) to go, but I strongly recommend taking the time to sit down and enjoy the dine-in experience in this cozy diner. The staff were very friendly. I'll be back!

Delicious breakfast downtown

By pauojeda54 |

Had breakfast on my first solo trip to Dallas after our cabbie recommended it. I didn't really think much about it when I saw it... but then I ate. Everything was delicious and you can see how they cook your meal. A great alternative to IHOP or another commercial breakfast chain.

An Awesome Little Place

By Crazyhorse30 |

When I say little, I mean little. It's about the size of a closet but that adds to the charm. This is no-frills cooking right here, and unbeatable prices for the middle of a city. They have everything from breakfast classics (and some amazing grits served with a ladle of butter in them) to sandwiches and a chicken fried steak, and even some great pecan pie. I ate here three times on my trip to Dallas. Just beware: no air conditioning if you're eating there in the summer.

My Kind of Burger Joint

By Equity |

I stopped here for a quick burger two days ago while in Dallas. It is a tiny hole-in-the-wall place that you can walk right by and not know it is there. Burgers are great! Thin, grilled, with a grilled bun, slightly greasy, very tasty and delicious. Fast service, low prices. Burgers were $1.95, $2.35 for a cheeseburg. Fries were great, hot and crisp. Just a counter with about 7-8 stools and a few tables. Grungy atmosphere. I can't wait to go back there.

Best diner in Dallas

By shane a |

What a great little place and big surprise for food and service. Don't bother eating at your hotel as this joint is cheaper and far better. Tiny little place attached to the side of a building car park.Take a seat at the counter and watch the cook create your meal with great skill. All day breakfast just fantastic, eggs how you like, hash ,bacon, grits on toast what a way to start the day. Good coffee, best service and the price unbelievably cheap We came 3 days in a row for the breakfast ,it was just that good and very traditional diner atmosphere

Old school diner.

By Nated2519 |

This is one of those hole in the wall diners, which is not a bad thing. This place has great food at a cheap price. Small place, you can watch them cook your food.

A memorable restaurant

By latz002 |

Thirty years ago I took my family to a restaurant in northern Minnesota called Mr. Food. It was an experience we still remember and enjoy searching for the next Mr. Food. And here it is. Not much to look at, not very large but a family run restaurant offering some pretty basic sandwich and breakfast items. Very reasonable prices. A tourist like me raved about the breakfast burrito. Our hamburgers were fine. And the memories will last. PS. No public bathroom but they do allow you to use the help's bathroom. That will add to your memories!

Excellent Service

By TMC800 |

Good food, great customer service, and affordable. I love their french fries. I have tried the breakfast and the lunch.

Good food cheap price

By Deb873 |

Burger, fries, and a coke and all for a cheap price. We ate here because it is just a little place attached to a building with a nostalgic atmosphere. We did notice construction workers, men in shirt & ties, & typical tourist eating there.

Unexpected treat in a parking lot

By LeRoy_far |

We accidentally stumbled on the Record grill while walking around downtown Dallas. We went in out of a since of adventure and guessed it would be good based on the ages old grease stain above the exhaust fan on the roof. We guessed right, the food was good and prices cheap. Service was good as well. It is so tiny you have to go outside to change your mind. Tables and chairs are old and minimalistic but clean and in good condition. We later learned it has a long history and may have been the place where Bonnie and Clyde met. Give it a try, keep your expectations reasonable.

Great little hole in the wall!

By lmclillly |

Stopped here for late breakfast after taking a downtown tour & had a wonderful meal. Service was prompt and friendly, food didn't take long. I had chicken fried 'steak' and eggs and it was a hamburger- and was DELISH! Good hash browns too. It is TINY- probably seats 25 or less & they only take cash. But I thought it was great. Ill definitely go back.

if you love cheap hole in the wall places like i do...

By kim b |

you'll love the record grill, so small you can't get a seat sometimes, so cheap you'll have cash leftover, so cool that it's still there after all of these years! tourists should take advantage of this place for a quick bite or a coke right across the street from the records building and right by 6th floor museum.

Fast and affordable!

By 442ralphs |

I really don't wake up early enough to eat breakfast, but some guys from work told me about how good this place was. Since it is really close, I thought I'd give it a try. I was amazed how good the food was and how cheap it was, I took four other people with food and drinks it was less than $30.00 bucks. I couldn't believe it!

Good for a cheap lunch near 6th floor museum

By StephanieL67 |

This place is cheap. Don’t have high expectations. Good if you want a fast cheap lunch in the area near 6th floor museum. We had Wednesday fried chicken special and chicken sandwich. Both were okay, but not great. Staff was pleasant. Definitely frequented by locals.

Great little restaurant with multiple food items

By Duke W |

A group of 10 of us had lunch at the Record Grill and everyone was very impressed with their meal. We had everything from burgers, chicken fried steak to grilled chicken. This is a cash only place and it doesn't have a restroom so be prepared in advance. They have about 5 tables and 8 barstools so you might want to visit outside of normal hours. I have heard they have great breakfast there too! If your in downtown, you should try out this place.

Really good.

By Charona3101 |

Excellent. Don’t be put off because it’s a shack and quite small. It’s really friendly and great value. The 3.50 breakfast taco was fantastic! Cash only and no toilets but it’s very good value and freshly prepared food.

No Frills All Fun

By coachee1313 |

Great little no frills spot that is awesome and cool in the same breath. Feels like you are eating back in 1965. Great for lunch and breakfast.
