Sunday brunch

By Barnett F |

Regular sunday brunch, came here before some time ago, decided to revisit, seems some changes, wait staff, dΓ©cor, and maybe owner as well. Price increased, served buffet, items all same, but nicer looking and tastes better, fresher ingredient and maybe receipt as well. Buffet items have abundant meat plates, European food item appetizers, mixed European and American type dessert items, Overall, good mixtures of items and good mixtures of different meat dishes with emphasis on Polish receipts, and some vegetarians items as well. Some food items, either hot or cold plates, really cannot be found in non European buffet restaurants, Its unique and prepared well. The changed was for the betterment of the place and for guests. Will visit them again, but with the higher price level, visit may not be as frequent as want to.

My parents

By Ben D |

My Mom was a waitress in the Red Apple Rest in 1931 when she met my Dad who stopped in for lunch. They soon fell in love and the rest is history. 4 children and decades of love.

A nice find

After traveling past this restaurant for years I met a family member there for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! Good Polish food Buffet. Nice price too

Good Eats!

By Seth H |

Went on Valentines weekend for dinner with my wife and two other couples. We went at 630PM and it was full, but we got a table right away. Meat was excellent ( Polish Sausage, carve your own Ham and Angus beef). Potato pancakes were great, but had to wit as they are popular. Wide variety of desserts. Also, I had a great seafood pasta with shrimp and a tasty crab salad. Good eating at a good price.

Great Polish food

By Allen21096 |

We stopped for dinner at the Red Apple Restaurant. We have been here before. The reason that we do go there is that the food is really authentic Polish cuisine. If you walk out hungry from Red Apple Restaurant, there is something wrong with you, as there is an extensive selection, i.e. pierogis, stuffed cabbages, hunter's stew and more. The staff is friendly and they are efficient in keeping up with the plate removal and getting coffee or other drinks. The reason that I just can't give it four stars is that it is a bit over-priced and they don't accept credit cards.

Great food, great service, blah ambience

By CovingtonCat |

I've been to the other location many times (every time I've come to Chicago) but had never been to this location. We came here to accommodate a friend who lived closer to this address. The food is the same as the other store - delicious. This is good, home-cooked food. There's lots of variety. You don't have to know anything about Polish food to enjoy a great meal here. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. We knew nothing about Polish beer so she explained the differences between them really well. Don't ask me what I had because I could never pronounce it, never mind spell it. But it went really well with the food. The dining room is pretty boring. The tables were as close together as they could be without actually bumping in to each other. The music was American Top 40 pop, not the Polish that I enjoy at the other store. (The other location also seems to be bigger with more room between the tables.). There was a good crowd at dinner. Come for the food, not the ambience. Choose your location based on where you are in the city. BRING CASH. They do not accept plastic or checks. Dinner and drink cost us around $20 each. We parked on the street in front.

Best Polish Food Buffet in the world

By BradSuss |

I'm from Cleveland. I know Polish food. The Red Apple is the Chicago version of Sokolowski's - on steroids. Everything is fresh-made. Nothing sits and ruminates like so many buffets. Make sure to visit the sections that surround the main buffet: Desserts are amazing

Great place to try new things

Busy, but not crowded. Great selection of international cuisine always hot and fresh. Great, friendly waitstaff. Even better prices. Definitely will be back.

Both lunch and dinner

By Kenneth Mullinax |

Absolutely incredible!!! I am a foodie who lived in Washington DC for many years and traveled the world several times a year as a staff member of the House Foreign Affairs committee. That with my New Orleans's epicurean background should demonstrate my high standards.RED APPLE: One would have to go to Warsaw to equal its wide and diverse array of Polish and eastern European delights from salads, appetizers, entrees, sauces and desserts.Plus, over 70 percent of the customers are speaking Polish,German or Russian. Sitdown and they offer you a choice of soups, then it's off to this incredible buffet. Lunch is great, dinner is even more extravagant. Living now in Alabama, when I visit, I eat there a few days, both lunch and dinner. New York City doesn't offer any Polish cuisine close to this gem. I stay downtown, but brave the longer journey to its North Milwaukee Ave. location. They have another location, but it's not the same as the original. My favorite of stuffed cabbage with either tomato or mushroom sauce, perioges, blintzes, latke, potato pancakes (thin and crisp) that are just the most common items to eat - probably 25 different entrees alone with various sauces. Unusual loved items is a chicken square with dill in aspic, hunters'beef, Silesian dumplings, red pickled cabbage and much more. Bring cash, no credit cards accepted. I LOVE THIS PLACE. IT IS 100 PERCENT AWESOME. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Food was good, walking through the door was tough!

By Pixotrips |

First I will say I wanted to review this place for some time. I will say the food is good, but things were hard the second I walked through the door. I was greates with a sign that said "cash only", but ATM inside. The host was very unfriendly. Very, I attempted to have a chat with her about my review project. She seemed disgusted by simply chatting with me. Once I sat down the experience changed. Good food. I loved the beer soaked ham hocks. I will saw the the Tender Gizzard Stew was a perfect potato topper. I give the food and service staff 4 stars, but the credit card sign, and the host needs a little work.

The best Polish restaurant in Chicago!! Amazing buffet!!

By wickerman767 |

Red Apple is a real institution at Chicago's Polish district at Milwaukee Avenue. The place has been opened for years, I remember visiting it back in 1980s. Red Apple has got two branches, both located at Milwaukee Avenue. Its amazing buffet with wide variety of Polish dishes is well-known in Chicago and during weekends not only locals visit the place but it's crowded with people from all over the Windy City! Service is very good with nice and helpful Polish girls in traditional Polish dresses. Dishes such as pierogis, goulash, pork chops, sauerkraut or pork knuckle are absolutely delicious! The bar offers a wide variety of alcohol including famous Polish vodka. If you like Polish or Eastern European cusines, this place is a must!!

Not Crispy Sensation

By go2restaurantbp |

They do not accept credit cards for payment. The parking lot is almost zero in front. The waitstaff is polite and the Polish food is fresh and ordinary. The fried chicken is always soggy, not crispy. The other food is good but not fantastic. Please try the other restaurant of Red Apple near Belmont. This one is much more tastier and the fried chicken is much more crisper too. Have fun at the other Red Apple, also they have better parking lot too. Please enjoy. No, I do not work for them.

Cash-only Buffet with various choices that are mostly delicious & tasty

By MeTwitty1Day |

I've been to this Red Apple branch various times over the last 28 years. It's a grand buffet that offers various choices: many are delicious and tasty, but some can be boring or consistent so you may want to sample a bit of everything first and then go back for the items that taste great to you. First, you can have a choice of soup (nicely warm and oh-so-good on a winter night). You can ask for another bowl or more after the first bowl. Then, you head over to an incredible buffet that includes fresh fruit, a salad bar, a desert bar, stuffed cabbage, chopped beets, pierogis, blintzes, latke, thin and perfectly crisp potato pancakes, roast beef, roast pork, chicken and fish dishes. The staff will clear your used plate so always get a new plate when you return to the buffet. At the end of your meal, you can ask for a small bowl of ice cream (strawberry or Neapolitan or the flavors that are offered that day). On this visit, they have deliciously fried string beans, yummy roasted Brussel sprouts and flavorful sweet & sour fish (boneless). The staff members can vary from friendly to cold. Our waitress was very friendly but did not come by our table that much so we had to wave to her across the room to ask for more water. This place takes only cash and the dinner buffet is at least $20 before tax & tip. Buffet price is less expensive during lunch and more expensive on weekend when they may offer fish, turkey or other savory meat selection. There is a small parking lot behind this Red Apple branch, but there are also ample street parking for free. Try the yummy chopped beets on the delicious potato pancake and you'll be in heaven. This Red Apple branch is way out near to the northwestern suburbs but it is much better buffet than the other one that is nearer to downtown Chicago. Come with a big appetite since the buffet price is a bit high.

Polish Delights

By Charles C |

I love this place. Its all about the buffet. Lots to choose from. Great Stuffed cabbage, Potato Pancakes, Blintzes, Pirogi, Hunters stew, chicken and fish dishes. Lunch has gotten expensive as it is up to $14. However, given the selection and quality, its worth the cost. they also have a dinner buffet, which as i recall is a couple of $'s more. Weekend is expensive at $22 all day. There is a desert and salad area as well. Lunch comes with a cup of soup and a scoop of Ice Cream, which the soup is always good. They are right on Milwaukee, so minimal parking out front. they have a small lot, and there is plenty of parking on the side street. They do not take credit cards, but they have a credit card machine that you can use for a nominal fee. but best to bring cash. The restaurant is clean and has plenty of room.

The only Red Apple open - still great!

By Lucy W |

The one on the border of Chicago and Niles is open. Not the one in Chicago in the Logan Square area. This is still great, a bit over priced, but good.

Polish buffet but not my first choice

By Monika K |

Being as I'm Polish, I'd have to say this food was ok. Main thing that I loved were the potatoe pancakes & strawberry pierogi. However, most of the other food was on the bland side. And for the price you're paying per person ($15), definitely not worth it, there are other places I'd go to in the Chicagoland area before coming back here.

Meat Me at the Red Apple

By Square-on-Wheels |

Our family enjoyed a day of apple-picking recently in a Wisconsin orchard, and we capped off the day with an all-too-appropriate visit to the Red Apple. My husband first learned of this place (the other location, actually) through a Polish friend who had grown up in the neighborhood. We used to refer to it as the Starving Actor's Dream, and it was an incredible $3.99 for an all-you-can-eat meal. That was almost twenty-five years ago. Now we patronize the location further north on Milwaukee Ave., and the price for the weekend dinner has risen to $19.99. We're still starving actors, so our trips are less frequent due to the higher pricing, but we're nonetheless happy to recommend the place. This is good, stick to your ribs home cookin', and you'll find something you like even if you're unfamiliar with Polish cuisine. Comfort food transcends all borders, I'm sure you'll agree. Your server will offer soup in addition to the staggering, meat-heavy buffet. Some patrons (like me) will want to rush headlong to the steam trays, but pause a moment and enjoy a cupful. You can have it alongside your buffet plate, and it won't slow you up a bit. (We recently enjoyed a fine Borscht.) There's a salad bar with a variety of cold dishes, including meat aspics, but I can't resist the siren call of the hot dishes. (Come on--all-u-can-eat duck?! I gotta get in there!) The sauerkraut differs these days from the luscious, creamy, slightly sweet stuff they used to serve, so maybe that recipe faded away over time. (PLEASE BRING IT BACK!) However, it's perfectly fine, especially with the sausage or pork hocks. Poultry was well represented, and there was ham and roast beef carved off the bone. There were two fish selections when we were there last, as well as shrimp. You'll find plenty of starches, too--from noodles to rice to potatoes (mashed, boiled, pancake) to fresh baked bread. And pierogis, of course. This is not a place to count calories, unless you're going for record consumption, and practically every offering shimmers with a glorious sheen of grease. (I don't mean to make it sound unappetizing--I'm just being real here.) Vegetarians like our daughter will not find many meatless or fishless protein options, although hard-boiled eggs were available at the salad bar. An array of tempting dessert trays showcase a variety of treats cut into small bars so you can sample a few without having to commit to just one selection. There's also fruit available for the guilt-ridden, but you've come this far--go ahead and enjoy that apple cake. Be advised that they prefer to deal in cash, but an ATM is available on premises. Staff is hard working and attentive, and the buffet is well-tended. The parking lot in back can be tight, but there's usually ample space available on the street in front. If you're of Polish descent and you yearn for a taste of home, get in here. If you eat food, do likewise.

This is great you know its good if the local police eat there

By WorldDiner2000 |

House specialties include classics such as wiener schnitzel, all kinds of real lean sausage and schnitzels, and lots of salads , herring and roast pork, beef, chicken and often roast duck, several fish- the buffet is awesome and is huge. 3+ kinds or perogis and then there is a desert bar with strawberry perogis and other deserts!! This is a gem and is larger than the more the same resturaunt downtown.. it a gem and there so much to eat that is unusual Polish/German/Ukraine food that i leave so full and happy.. it a must if in the area complementing its hearty eats with a selection of fine Polish Czech beers on tap in side room beers. Watch a football(Americans call it soccer) over the side bar in polish TV

The best buffet hands down---One of my families best meals

By ritabrust |

The variety and freshness was outstanding---the taste of everything was amazing. We are of lithuanian desent and this was the closest to homeade that we've eaten

Best polish food.

I have never been to this place. we where invited for rehearsal prrparty. Wonderful pick by the bride and groom. Fascistic food, awesome service.

I Love This Restaurant!

By Art O |

Family members took me here while I was in town, and I fell in love with it! First, it was buffet style, so I had to try most of everything. The pierogis, stuffed cabbage, pork stew, cheese blintzes, kielbasa, I can go on and on, we're all delicious! But the best part of the evening was the people! They took such nice care of me when they found out I was from out of state, making sure I tried different items. I can't wait to visit again!

Best tasting buffet

By BarbaraS33 |

I usually don't like food on a buffet. But most things I tried were delicious. Loved the blintzes, potato pancakes, poached salmon, pierogies, marinated cucumbers, too many choices. Great cheesecake and desserts. Very reasonable prices. Comfort food. πŸ˜€πŸ‘

Has really gone downhill

By LynE1 |

I have been going to Red Apple for the last 25 years, but yesterday was the last time. Food on Hot buffet was cold, and pretty much the pierogis were water logged. Yes, they have added cold shrimp to the salad bar, but there too it was waterlogged and tasteless. The smoked Polish sausage had been sitting out so long that it was more like eating a beef jerky. Dessert bar was a mess, with bits and pieces of cakes, looks like it was well picked over from the lunch crowd and they did nothing to make it nice before dinner. Did you know that the weekend price is now 24.99??? Nope, it was awful.....I will keep going to the Jolly Inn on Irving, much better, fresher, cleaner and better choices. Thumbs down at Red Apple. When I was paying I told the manager about how disappointing the food was, and her reply was simply "Oh sorry" no discount, no offer to do something. Ugh, never again. 25 years of loyalty....but no more.

Amazing place!

By Marcin M |

Nice place. We have visited this place on our USA road trip. Great atmosphere, tasty food, fast service, staff friendly and proffesional. Will visit again.

I'm so disappointed.

By Cindy A |

When we moved the WI 3 years ago my husband took me here and it quickly became one of my favorite places to eat in the Chicago area. But on our last 2 visits the food has really been lacking. The meats have been tough and over-cooked, and many of the dishes that we once enjoyed have become flavorless. Some of our favorites, like Hunter's Stew, haven't been on the buffet at all. When we visited over Labor Day and the food wasn't all that god we just chalked it up to a bad day. But on our last visit it was actually worse. Also, the food was almost ice-cold by the time we got back to our table. I realize that when it's in the single-digits outside and you have a buffet that it's difficult to keep things hot, but still. I'm not sure if we'll be back. Maybe, because it was a favorite, but if we do and it doesn't meet expectations again we won't come again. The food is the only complaint; the staff is always nice and on top of things.

good ol polish food

By Tomas A |

i love this place the foods always hot and plenty all you want from potato pancakes to perogis to saled and beef, turkey, ham off the bone the only down side they no longer take credit cards cash only but there is a atm in the dinning room

Pleasant evening, family style dinner

By Ver0nica333 |

I have been dining in the Red Apple restaurant for about 20 years. I enjoy their Polish dinner buffet: it is as good as my grandmother's home cooking. The restaurant has a nice interior, very good service, and a pleasant family atmosphere. The only small drawback is that I don't think they take credit cards, but on the other hand, the prices are great for the amount and the quality of food.

Red Apple Restaurant

By trishkara |

Red Apple Restaurant on Milwaukee Ave in Chicago has one of the best buffets for Polish foods. We have made it a tradition before Christmas for about 15 years. Go during lunch hours - or after to get a super price and still enjoy all of the selections. There are two serving areas for the food and separate areas for the desserts. The service people around Chicago come here to dine for a great meal at a great price!

If you like Polish Food, this is the place to go!

By meredith101970 |

We ended up here for dinner simply because I got lost. From the outside, it dosen't mention polish food, but once you go in....First they DO NOT take credit cards. There is an ATM machine on premises. THe food...They have the usual, mashed potatoes (instant), assorted fish, veggies the usual at a buffet restraunt. You know your in the right place when there are several types of aspic served. The polish side has pierogies, roast beef, roast pork, blintzes, potato pancakes, Haluski.. They have several types of fresh fruit, a salad bar and a desert bar. The plum cake was moist and flavorful. We knew when we were seated, this place was good..The soup of the day.. was sauerkraut or chicken noodle. The soup is all you can eat also. Just ask your server and I think they have ice cream available. There is a full bar and waitress service available. The beer was relatively cheap.

Great Polish Buffet

By WorldTravelers34 |

My wife and I had lunch here today. This was our first time eating at this location, but we have eaten at their other location many times (3121 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL). Red Apple is also called Czerwone Jabluszko. They have two locations both owned by the same owner. The restaurant is an all-you-can eat buffet consisting of many different Polish foods. Although the food here was very good, we felt that it was not as good as the other location. $12 for lunch pp is a very reasonable price. We were disappointed that they did not serve breaded tenderloin and veal schnitzel here.

Good authentic Polish food

By Pat S |

We have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years. The food is always fresh, tasty and authentic. PLEASE NOTE: This establishment is CASH ONLY, you are not informed until after you have eaten. They used to accept credit cards but No More. The price has jumped up in the last few years, typical for the times when everything has gone up in price. Food and service is good.

Hope you are hungry

By Moody0319 |

Went here on a Sunday. Got there right around noon and had no trouble getting a seat. It did get a lot busier. Food was very authentic, employees were very nice and helpful, I am not familiar with polish food. Delicious! Been to two other polish restaurants since and they did not compare.

Good food

By Chris F |

This was my first time here, and I have to say, while I never had much Polish food growing up, other than a little on holidays, this was good stuff. A nice introduction to some foods I haven't had, and a re-introduction to some I have had. The soup was good as well. It is a buffet, obviously, and has enough of a selection that if you cannot find something to eat, it's your own fault. The staff was great as well. This is a good place to go if you want to try different types of Polish food, as I guess from what the other people I was with said, they change the buffet a little, at least on weekends. Definitely worth the price.

An OK Polish buffet.

By patricia v |

They accept CASH only. There is an ATM on site but the restaurant changes a fee to use it. The food was warm not hot. There was a large assortment with various meats, salads but nothing was outstanding. It’s an ok buffet but $20 per person seems a bit higher for the quality of food.

Very Expensive Polish Buffet!

By LFDavid |

I had not been to the Red Apple for a couple of years. Boy, what I surprise when I returned for lunch on the weekend! $19.99 for the buffet plus an automatic 15% gratuity!!! The food is good, but not $22.99 good. We were wondering why the restaurant was so empty at lunchtime - now we know why no one was there. We won't be back - very disappointed by the greediness of the owners.

Great food

By Jennifer C |

Things to remember when you visit. Bring cash, they are cash only. The soup comes with the meal, but you don't need it. It's a great buffet. Tons of great foods that they restock with small portions so it's always fresh. If you're not used to European desserts, remember that they typically take dessert with coffee so many of the items and not real sweet like Americans are used to and if you want a real sweet desert look for little shot glasses of things.

Very tasty

By Rodrigo T |

Very cozy and clean restaurant. The buffet has many options of meat and salad. Service is great. Price is good.

If you like real Polish food , this is your place

By Kathleen123000 |

Love the buffet, great ham and other Polish selections. Good soup and salad bar accompany the buffet.

Amazing Polish Buffet for a tiny price!

By mpaine1985 |

This place is AMAZING! I just stumbled upon it not knowing if it was a bar or restaurant. The sign outside also says 'Czerwone Jabluszko' (Red Apple in Polish). Upon entry the lunch buffet was HUGE and looked delicious! We sampled viener schnitzel, meat balls, chicken gizzards, potato pancakes, beet salad, mashed potatoes, pierogis, cheese blintzes and then there was dessert! all kinds of cakes, cookies, pudding and jello too! Did I mention this buffet includes a cup of soup AND a dish of ice cream!!! All this for $10.99 a person!!! What a find! Located on Milwaukee Avenue just northwest of Devon Avenue, there is street parking sometimes but turn into Imlay Street and park in the small lot behind the restaurant. This place will be a favorite for a long time to come!

Bucket List Item Check

By Jennette R |

Been wanting to go for years after seeing it on various websites and shows. Finally came back to visit and took my Dad. Wonderful! True Polish Grannys in the back bringing out the food. Love our experience. Cash only and interesting that you can also swing by and pay for the pounds which I have never seen before. So Yummy!!!

Good Value. Period.

By Youssef Stino |

This restaurant truly represents "you get what you pay for". All the food was average at best. The coleslaw was good though! I think it has high ratings everywhere because it's not expensive. Also, they only take cash.

OK, I guess

By bob c |

I know nothing about Polish food, so I'm not sure whether it's the cuisine or restaurant I found disappointing. The chicken cutlet was dry, the stuffed cabbage was bland. I liked the potato pancakes and pork shanks. Overall, too much ground pork so that flavors are indistinguishable. The kielbasa was ok, but I've had better from the supermarket. Salads were of the Jello-mold genre. I did enjoy their lemon tart. I was looking for an introduction to Polish food from city famous for its Polish heritage. Red Apple did not inspire me to visit Poland to further explore the cuisine.

Aw, just like Grandma's and Mom's Polish cooking...

By Larry L |

The wife and I are of 2nd generation Polish origin. Our Grandmothers and Moms made many "Old World" meals which we grew up on in Chicago. Been here multiple times and it's the most wonderful buffet of any buffet restaurant we've been at over the years. On the past two visits noticed some obvious non-Polish origin folks enjoying the food here - obviously of Asian and African-American origin folks. A most welcoming menu!! And the food is so fresh! Why we were eating the trays were constantly being refilled with fresh cooking. We really, really love the potato pancakes but everything is outstanding!!!

Authentic

By sjc_1971 |

Outstanding selection of authentic polish cuisine. Part of my family is from Poland and they absolutely love this place!

Why not accept credit cards?

By Allen21096 |

The food is good. I love the hunter's stew and the stuffed cabbages. The staff is friendly and efficient. The price is reasonable for what you can get, though you should come hungry. But they do not accept credit cards - it is cash only. It is hard to believe that they have held out this long before taking a credit card plunge.

Good choice of Polish food

By Allen21096 |

I must admit that my favorite foods are the stuffed cabbages and the hunter stew, though the stew is not always available. This is a buffet and I've always found the food to be plentiful and fresh.

Super Polish buffet!

By Bridget C |

We didn't realize this was a buffet but we weren't disappointed at all. The food selections were vast and delicious. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was homey. I especially liked the dessert selections. The stuffed cabbage was even better than what I make for myself. Loved the creamy beets and of course, the pierogis were perfect.

Polish food.

By Tomas A |

Well they have a large selection of foods i find most often the food is bland and if you get there after lunch or before dinner the food wont be fresh ive gone many times and the food is dried out like there boiled potatoes are dried out and hard or the perogis are soggy from sitting in the water so long or the stuffed cabbage is soggy and the cabage is brownish from sitting to long and the tomato sauce is brownish from sitting to long yuk!! theres one waitress i sit bye if possible ola is her name i think.. she is friendly and attentive the rest seem cold and have additude not friendly at all and i find it very tacky and cheap that its CASH ONLY...but you can use there own atm REALLY!!! No thanks i just wont come here no more cause your dont want to pay a fee for credit cards after paying 16$ to eat not including a tip you would think that a small fee wouldnt be a issue i hope they realize they are making customers mad and losing them cause there greedyness

Don't Eat The Day Before

By BigBobQ |

All the food is is hot and looks appealing. The kitchen staff is constantly refreshing the buffet. I usually go at lunch time but did go with my wife in the evening once. The evening meal had all the lucheon items but additionally included a large ham and side of roast beef each accompanied by a huge sharp cutting knife with which you served yourself. I especially enjoy the "schnitzel". My Polish-American friend enjoys the potato pancakes and pierogi's. The salad bar is all-inclusive with fresh fruits. The dessert table has the most delicious rumball cookies. For all that is offered I don't know how they can keep the prices so low. Again, come hungry. Fantastic.

Polish Smorgasboard

By Duncan Hines Wannabe |

Trusting from other reviews this is a taste of Poland, had lunch here. The meal was filling for the two adults and the 2 teens were able to find enough to eat to not complain. It is an expensive lunch and that makes it difficult to 5 Star. The food and service were both excellent and worth the trip. Would go back and would recommend to others!

Very clean

By Abenture |

Super clean and neat with attentive service and very good food. We like this place better than its larger other location. Interesting and ample variety of foods from which you can select.

OOMG. The best home cooking you could ask for!!

By Susan T |

So many choices. All full of flavor and love. Real mash potatoes. Excellent polish choices. Soup, salads, desserts...the main choices are filled continuously fresh and hot... Carving stations allow you to pick what you want.

Wonderful

By Fred S |

Quite a lovely place and a great value...don't miss it..fantastic buffet worth more than you could imagine

Their buffet does not have any chicken with white meat; only dark meat. How can they be so cheap.

By Steve R |

Their buffet does not have any chicken with white meat. How can they be so cheap. They only have dark meat. They should offer white and dark meat chicken. Alot of people cannot eat dark meat.

Yummy

By newtoy |

This was our first time here. Recommended by a family member and it was worth the long drive there. We were aware in advance that it was cash only but they do have an ATM machine though. Parking in the rear lot was not available but we got lucky and snagged a spot on the street in front. We have heard that they can get crowded so we made reservations for our party of 5 and were seated right away in a room towards the back. it was quieter than the main restaurant area and we did not feel rushed at all. The service was great. We were offered a choice of soups and after the buffet you get ice cream if you have room :) the buffet was delicious, fresh, and well stocked. there was a huge selection so even my picky eater found plenty to fill up on. Carving station with ham and roast beef, fried chicken, roasted chicken, chicken cutlets, chicken kiev, polish sausage, fish, pork, stuffed cabbage, pierogis, potato pancakes, blintzes, the list goes on. the deserts were all very tasty as well.

If you are on a diet, skip this place... or you can start the diet again tomorrow...

By NTVBOB |

Love buffets.. However, have never been to a Polish Buffet. Plenty to eat for $20 (on the weekends for dinner). All the items including the salads and unique desserts were excellent. Don't compare this to a chain type buffet i.e. Home Style Buffets, etc. The food is more varied. We had stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes, roast chicken, pickled beets, and a host of other comfort foods. Also excellent carvings. I thought the desserts were superior to what you usually get on a buffet or a cruise ship buffet. My partner held me back from tasting all of the items!! The place is not big on ambience. Servers pick up plates and deliver your soup. Cash only, so forget your plastic. Would certainly go back.

Very friendly and authentic

By Smile_and_Laugh5 |

Very friendly and authentic polish food. Service was great, food was good, but we were disappointed some of our favorites weren’t available. Price for the buffet on the weekend was high, might be back on a weekday, but not worth the weekend price.

Polish Buffet

By Chris H |

I came here due to YouTube Food Vlogger Mikey Chen. Plus it's a polish buffet, how could you not want to try it. Inside the atmosphere definitely has a European feel to it. Probably Polish, that would just make sense. They are only open on Saturday and Sunday and close at 8 pm. So if visiting from out of town that can make things difficult. The meal starts out with a cup of soup, in my case Chicken Noodle. It was very good and definitely warmed me up on a cold day. Next up was the buffet. This buffet had a plethora of options on it. I got a little bit of mostly everything. My one real disappointment was the food temp was lukish warm. It was all still very good, however I imagine it would have been even better hot. My favorite thing was the ribs and a cheese wrap thing. Both delicious. I didn't really not like any thing. Even the cold chicken was still good. The staff seemed very stern, just their way I guess. They were very efficient though. Overall for me a 4 star review. Not the best I've had, however it is the only Polish buffet I've had. Would I return? Absolutely.

SUPERLATIVE dining in a (Polish) buffet format

There are buffets and then there are exceptional buffets. Generally, I avoid any eatery that has a 'sneeze guard'. I know the owner/manager, Anna, and have been so impressed with her chef and the exceptional quality of the kitchen's output that I have even engaged her restaurant for catering several large events in Chicago. There are two Red Apple Restaurants in Chicago. I have eaten several times at the one on Milwaukee Ave, just south of Belmont and also at the 6474 N. Milwaukee Ave. location. The roast beef is Angus. The roasted ham is 'on the bone'. The salmon is perfect. It is all there: Salads, soups, sides, breads, desserts. There are some Polish treats and, judging by the many Polish speakers I have seen in the restaurant, the food is better than home-cooked. But I do not think of this as a Polish restaurant because everything is there. Its like a really good hotel restaurant. The restaurant is immaculate, the charming servers are warm and attentive. For an all-you-can-eat feast for the eyes and tummy, you cannot find a better self-serve option in Chicago. And the per person tab is ridiculously low for the quality, selection and experience. The only thing missing might be a faint touch of classical music in the background...

Great homemade food and lots of variety. We love to eat there on Sunday for lunch. They also have a separate room for larger parties.

Food is Good But Now Only Take Cash!

By Harry J |

I have eaten at this restaurant for many years and the food has always been good. Now, I decided not to eat there any more. Why? To make extra money, they have stopped taking credit cards to save on the Credit Card Company fees. To make matters worse, they told no one in advance and their web site as of yesterday says they take credit cards. To make even more money, they put in their own private cash station with a fee for them plus your bank fees. When a couple spends $25 plus to eat, they should be able to use their credit card to pay. For this reason, I am no longer eating at the Red Apple and warn you to be sure you have enough cash with you if you go to eat there.

Great selections

Walked in and the aroma was very inviting. Huge selection of Polish foods on the buffet. Everything was cooked to perfection and piping hot. So many styles of pierogis! Sauerkraut was excellent.

Always Amazing!

I have never had a bad meal or experience here. Comfort food to the max. It's good thing I don't live close by, I'd gain a lot of weight.

Service was cold.

I went there Friday night of the 22nd with my son and my friend. We were greeted at the door. The food was good but the staff were cold. They only seem to cater to certain groups of people. You can tell it by the way they greeted and asked them than us. sadly, I like their food but if I'm not really welcome to dine there then I dont think I'd come back.

Fabulous comfort food

I think this is the best Polish food ever, and the freshest and most flavorful buffet I have ever enjoyed. There is something for everyone- beef, ham, chicken and pork, a large variety of side dishes, inviting salads, yummy desserts plus ice cream. I think they offer a LOT for the price, and the wait staff is always charming and quick to get anything additional you might need, like beverages or condiments. One of my favorite places!

Great Polish Restaurant Buffet

If U do not LOVE pork, this may not be the place for U. I can no longer digest pork, so I eat the potato pancakes, cheese blintzes, beef, & chicken.
