Delicious!

By AdriNYCest2003 |

Great spot to satisfy all your New England cravings. The Lobster Rolls were generously served and fresh. The Fish and Chips were flavorful and crisp and the Lobster Mac & Cheese was delicious. They were very friendly with the children and accommodated us very well.

Food truck

By pandemonium93 |

The lobster at the food truck is fresh and made to order. the lemon mayo is really delish, but ask for a bit extra as it needs just a tad more. the Maine is my favorite, pure and simple.

Small portion for a HIGH PRICE$$$$

By Tconway183 |

Drove to This place because I heard it was the best in NYC. First the area of the Restaurant is horrible. Don't drive because the streets will destroy your car and there is no parking. Had the Maine lobster roll and it tasted good but the portion is too small for the money. You will leave hungry. Not place that I will rave about or go out of my way to return to.

Only had drinks

By Sonja W |

We only had drinks but the service was friendly. The bar was clean and the Lobster Rolls looked good.

Good Seafood

By Ziya B |

Street side parking, nice atmosphere, good service and good food. Called for a reservation was told I didn't need one for 3 people and to just come in and found a table as soon as a came in. Good and friendly service. Would recommend..

A taste of Maine in New York!

By HWMNBN |

This places serves an excellent lobster roll (almost as good as some of the lobster pounds in Maine) and lobster mac'n cheese. I was also impressed with the fact it serves Allagash White beer on tap, which is one of my favorites. I agree with the poster that said the prices are high, even for lobster. My visit was pre-pandemic (unfortunately, I forgot to do a write-up at the time).

Good but very expensive

By allous5 |

If you are willing to spend $25 for a classic lobster roll a size of hot dog sandwich then this is the place. Too expensive for 4 inches sandwich. Good quality and nice environment but they should work on their prices.

Small and delicious!

By Abigail M |

A small casual restaurant featuring delicious seafood, especially lobster. The Lobster Roll wrapped in lettuce (if you want )was perfection. Nicely crafted cocktails and beer selection and attentive staff. A vibrant, energetic place with a ladies room not to be missed!

Lobster Loser

By Jon A |

They have opened a stand at the open air Schmorgesborg Ok. So I can’t spell. Well they can’t make Lobster rolls. Tasteless. Sort of plastic not food. The chunks of lobster shell that you have to pick out of your teeth are equally without flavor but at least it confirms that what you’ve just wasted your money on might once, very long ago, have been a living creature and not someone’s misplaced packing styrofoam noodles Walk past this rip off and over to the duck fat booth. Fried, drenched in coagulating suet, and interlaced with duck bacon is a heart attack in a cardboard container. But tasty And the servers are smiling and friendly- unlike the sullen lobster slopsters. Ed’s Lobster Bar is 6 blocks away. On Lafayette St. It’s worth the walk. You’ll thank me.

Lobster roll deliciousness!!

By Christine F |

We've made the rounds to many lobster shacks all around the area, Cape Cod and renown Abbott's, in Noank, CT and Redhook Lobster Pound is still one of the best we've had. We keep going back. We get one lobster roll made with the light mayo and the other served warm with butter. Both are a must have!! Rootbeer and Cape Cod chips taste great with your rolls, but I'd skip the whoopie pies they carry as they lack favor, overly cakey and not worth the indulgence. Instead have a second lobster roll! Restaurant is a short walk from Widow Jane distillery which I highly encourage.

Eat like you're in Maine - save the airfare!

What a deal this place is! Expanded and rebuilt after sustaining heavy damage during Storm Sandy, the new and improved Red Hook Lobster Pound is bigger and better than ever!!! We took an easy subway and bus ride right to the front door from Manhattan and it was SO worth it! There are branches (and trucks) of RHLP around the City, but with a much more limited menu. This is the Mother Ship and it's the real deal. The lobster tanks are on the premises, and the lobsters couldn't be fresher. Here you can get a real lobster dinner with corn, potatoes, slaw and drawn butter, with the lobster as the main event. Large, deep red, perfectly cooked and so sweeeeeeeeeet! I should also mention (as a self-avowed expert) that the New England clam chowder is excellent - not too thick, but chock full of clams and flavor. The peel-and-eat shrimp had just the right amount of Old Bay on them, and as if that wasn't enough, an enormous funnel cake with ice cream and blueberries came out at the end just to deliver the one-two food coma punch. We will be back - we will definitely be back!

Excellent seafood find in Brooklyn

By Mark B |

I had visited a ship at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, and wanted to see what the local area had for food. This place was hopping, but not overly busy -- simply popular I would say, and after trying the food I know why. I love fish & chips, so that's what I tried, and while the batter looked dark and overcooked, it was actually perfect and very delicious. The fish inside was so tender and moist it melted in my mouth. It wasn't until the lady next to me ordered the lobster sandwich that I regretted my choice -- proper chunks of lobster meat served in a bun and with slaw and fries. They also had a full bar with great looking beers, but alas, I was driving. I definitely want to go back and try their lobster dishes.

Best lobster rolls in Brooklyn.

By Dana H |

Great lobster rolls served in this fun place. Quite expensive, so I don't go as much as I'd like to. Service is fast and friendly.

Great food, fun atmosphere, friendly service

By marybeth_abarbanel |

Just like a trip to Maine... only the lobsters made the trip to Brooklyn, instead of the reverse! Eclectic atmosphere. Absolutely fresh authetic lobster rolls, and several other unique dishes, many involving lobster Can be pricey... but that is true with lobster anywhere, and the portions were generous. Loved it!

MEDIOCRE AT BEST

By Fred |

The Pound is a quaint, interesting spot, but the food was second rate. The quintessential Lobster Roll was 95% bread and breading and an almost invisible portion of actual lobster. And if you cannot get a good Lobster Roll at a Lobster Pound, why bother. Plus, with tax, that loaf of bread with a few bits of meat cost almost $40. If you do visit the Pound, look for more reasonable dishes to order.

Our lobster spot

By Marelisz |

The lobster rolls are always fresh and delicious my favorite is the blt with sweet potatoes fries. Drink are not the best selection. The other problem is the price is way to high specially because the portions are in the small side.

Plentiful, tasty and a little on the expensive side

By 9sylvie |

I had a delicious lobster roll at the Dumbo market where Red Hook had set up. For 18 dollars, I got a 1/4lb of lobster on a grilled bun. It was delicious - the lobster was fresh, the lemon mayonnaise was tasty and the salad crisp. For a lobster roll, I thought it was a little on the expensive side, but it was great!

Good lobster roll

By Hirashiki |

We were just craving for lobster roll. On a week day, we decided to go there for lunch. It wasn’t crowded during lunch time. Our waitress was extremely efficient. She worked fast. Yet, we did not feel being rushed at all. She was working alone the whole time. She was a five star waitress. The lobster roll was fresh. The lobster meat was juicy. We had the fried oysters for appetizer. The only down side was, we did not see raw oyster for lunch. I believe they do serve it for happy hour.

Delicious food and excellent service!

By Kim A |

The best lobster roll I've ever had. There's plenty of huge pieces of fresh lobster on the rolls. We also had a warm lobster dip with old bay chips, the lobster mac and cheese, and the seafood stew. The staff was very friendly. This was definitely my favorite meal of our weekend trip to NYC.

Darn good Lobster Roll!

By Steve H |

Nice friendly place. We tried several things and the winner was the Lobster roll- warm with butter. The Crab sandwich was good but not a stand out. Interestingly my sister ordered the burger - when in rome... I know. It was outstanding! This place is a great option when in Red Hook.

Great find in Red Hook

By Parent_traveler |

We were from out of town and we’re visiting the five borough bike ride expo nearby and upon exiting the event, we found Redhook lobster Pound. There was a large crowd in light of the nearby event, however we sat at the bar and had a terrific meal. My wife love the lobster roll and the Bloody Mary. I had to fish and chips which were over all good, however the fish was just a little bit soggy. Overall the meal was terrific and The atmosphere was terrific. I would recommend the food and drinks to anyone visiting Redhook.

Fun Restaurant with Good Food And Fair Prices

By PSGumby |

Went to Red Hook Lobster Pound to celebrate my son in law's birthday. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was great, the service is pleasant and upbeat, the atmosphere is casual, The "shares" for the table are awesome. Crispy Brussel Sprouts are fabulous as is the Hot Crab Dip. This is NOT a place for whole lobster; rather, they serve five or six variations of lobster roll, each order comes either with fries or potato salad. The fries are awesome; the potato salad is the one ordinary thing on the menu that we tasted, but no matter. The lobster rolls are excellent really filled with a lot of lobster - more than at most places. Desserts are outrageous. There is plenty of street parking if you drive.

A simple mistake by staff that turned into a horrible experience for me. Bad business!

By Heatheraquel |

If you look at my profile, I only leave positive reviews. I don’t waste time giving negative reviews but, for this I will. I'll start by saying this was a simple mistake made by a very young busboy and was handled with complete incompetence. It was a thoroughly bad business move. I've been in the bar & restaurant industry for 25 years and I've also enjoyed dining (from mom & pop shops to fine dining) for just as long. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had. EVER. Thoroughly insulting & frustrating. 7/23 (yes, over a month ago) I went to the lobster pound in Red Hook. I'm from Philadelphia & I stay at my friends apartment next to the Red Hook Lobster Pound. I go there for a meal every time I stay in NYC. After barely being noticed while waiting for a table (sitting on the hostess bench with 2 small dogs for 10 minutes) I finally got seated outside. I order, having a casual meal and doing some work at my table. Midway through, I got up to walk my dogs to the tree in front of the dry cleaners next door. I had a piece of work on the table, HALF of my $26 lobster salad and my full tote bag on my chair. I was literally chitchatting with 2 people who were waiting for a table. When I returned, my salad was gone. I told the waitress, she looked shocked and said the busboy must have taken It. Here’s where it gets good. Instead of just replacing the damn salad (which is EXACTLY what good customer service would do) they let me sit for a good ten minutes. The waitress tells me they are trying to figure it out with the manager. Then says I should have told them I would be away from the table! WHY?! I don’t report to a server when I go to the bathroom and I wasn’t away from the table longer than I would've been if I had. PLUS, I HAD PERSONAL ITEMS ON THE TABLE ALONG WITH HALF OF MY MEAL! When they finally brought me a HALF salad to replace my food, I thought was VERY TACKY but, I accepted it. I waited a few minutes since she gave me no knife, just fork to eat. When I realized the server wasn't coming back, I figured I'd just try to eat. That’s when I became livid. From a $26 salad to a half salad with one piece of lobster on top- SUPER INSULTING. I don’t care if they did think I ate that much, it’s BAD BUSINESS! REPLACE THE FOOD, COMP THE CHECK. BE BETTER!!! After asking to speak to a manager, she arrives at my table looking confused. Why? She asked if I wanted the food wrapped to go, I said, absolutely not! She told me they were very busy (and ?) and that maybe next time I should tell someone if I step away from my table. I asked her if she thought I should tell them if I went to the bathroom. Both her and the server thought it was appropriate to say this to me. I had items at my table. I was not gone. Did they think I beat the bill? It doesn't make sense. In The end THEY MADE THE MISTAKE AND TRIED TO BLAME ME. They acted as if I was trying to get over on them. Incredibly rude & incompetant staff. I told her I would pay half and that’s what I did. I even tipped the lousy waitress who never asked me how my food was, skipped Over me when I was waiting to be seated & didn’t bring me a knife for my food. But she is working and I couldn’t not. But, I should've paid nothing. I should've been treated with respect. A small mistake could've just been fixed by replacing my food. That is an industry standard procedure. Food gets taken off checks and replaced for much less. That's not even how I operate, I just know how it's done. Icing on the cake, when I emailed the owner to talk to her (I sat on it a week and was still upset) She said She would call me and never did. Gave me a window of hours and just didn't call. How bout this, I wrote notes so I wouldn't waster HER time, so I would know exactly what I wanted to say. Guess what I wound up using the note for..thats right, this. It's taken me a minute to get to this but, I wanted to be heard. My money is hard earned. Maybe some people don't care about throwing their money around but, I’m a woman of color and have worked extremely hard for every penny I have. I’ll NEVER give them 2 red cents again and bet, I’ll tell everyone I know not to go their either. There's nothing I want, I wanted to be heard. They couldn't even do that. FYI, staff also continuously sits on my friends front step smoking, leaving butts and after being asked repeatedly to not do this (The smoke blows into his bedroom window) they still do it, manager included. Bad management.

unique and worth it

By SouthSlocanMarg |

we love lobster rolls. these are incredible and worth the taxi ride ---not the usual tourist trappings but the real thing. they also have unique selection of beers and their margarita was authentic. fish and chips also were worth ordering. nice relaxing atmosphere.

Pricey but solid

By Ealgian |

Lobster rolls are delicious, if pricey. Love the buttered roll which is toasted, it tastes so luxurious against the sweetness of the lobster. The roll that I had this week seemed smaller in size than one that I ate in DC a few years ago, so maybe Red Hook Lobster Pound's suffered by a kind of lobster roll inflation? Or maybe it's because I ate that first lobster roll after a long afternoon of standing and cheering at the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear... No fear for this lobster roll, but it's pure tastebud insanity! (in a good way)

Lobster roll!

By KKinsellaShanghai |

I highly recommend the lobster roll and sweet potatoes fries! Very tasty and plenty of food! Very busy atmosphere but still good service.

Piece of Maine in Brooklyn

By Maureen S |

We went to celebrate s birthday and had a great time . Staff incredible friendly and helpful. Our group of 5 shared fried oyster Rockefeller and Mac and cheese -both were gobbled up. Done if group had lobster roll and thru enjoyed . Others had boiled dinner / in addition to lobster the dish included clans and shrimp . Was ad good ad a Maine lobster dinner . Atmosphere fun and informal with outside seating. Nice bar and drinks are excellent - the Frozee was a favorite and highly recommended. Desserts include a key lime pie which was outstanding. The funnel cake with ice cream and blueberry was better than blueberry pie traditionally served at lobster pounds. Worth a trip to Red Hook. For non fish eaters there is a very tasty burger -order sweet potato fries.

My favorite Lobster Rolls

By armypilot44 |

I've eaten Lobster Rolls in every state from Maine to New York and Red Hook Lobster Pound is definitely in my top 3 favorites. There is he main storefront area where you can purchase live lobsters and your prepared food. Seating area is offered I the building next door where the owner shows off his amazing woodwork. Highly recommend.

Sweet and tender

By LKM |

From a hole-in-the-wall lobster roll joint to a full-fledged restaurant, this Red Hook institution keeps packing people in. Boiled lobster is delicious. So is the fried clam appetizer with aioli dip. You can also take out a live one and boil it at home. Today marked my third lobsterhere this year.

Go to fairway instead

By bklyn550 |

They make. A decent lobster roll but fairway down the street makes a decent lobster roll for half the price. The place is good don't get me wrong but it's a little pricey.

Nice Summer getaway for a lobster dinner

By James C |

My wife and I decided to take a ride to Red Hook [Brooklyn] to have a lobster dinner. The Red Hook Lobster Pound was very informal. Just the right setting for a lobster dinner. We had reservations for 7:00pm and got there a few minutes early. Our reservation was noted and we went to the bar. Everyone was ver accommodating. By 7:00pm we were seated at our table. There was quite a mix of ages at the restaurant. Our orders were taken promptly and the food was served very soon after that. The Old Bay seasoning on the shrimp was a little to salty...but other than that everything was fine. the New England "Chowdah" was delicious! I had the Lobster boil and my wife had the lobster dinner. We both enjoyed it. Not enough room left for desert!!

Lobster Roll for the Win!

By Jess S |

I've been meaning to get to this place with my friend since it opened as just a small hole in the wall place. She's lived in Red Hook for many years and she had been and promised that I'd love it. Yes, it's taken that long to actually get there. But I do live in the UK so please don't be too harsh with your judgement! I finally made it over there the other evening for some dinner with my friend and her son. First off, we wandered in and waited to be seated. It was a weekday evening and it wasn't busy at all. There were loads of tables available (only about 1/4 of the tables were taken) and so when we were escorted to one the table that's located right next to the toilet, I have to admit that I was a little bit put off. In my head I was thinking *SERIOUSLY?* but out loud, I just mentioned that we'd rather take the table by the wall on the opposite side. This didn't appear to be a problem but neither was the young lady particularly pleasant about it. Maybe she'd had a bad day. It happens. On to the food... We had the clam strips to start which were fun and great and all but they're deep fried stuff, right? So you can't really judge a place based on that. Unless it's a fried chicken place, in which case this is of utmost importance... but I digress. They clam strips were yummy. I also had a bowl of the New England Clam Chowder. When it arrived it was barely luke warm which was a bit disappointing. I'm not sure what the optimal temperature clam chowder is meant to be served at, but I happen to like it piping hot. I mean, I like to have to blow on it a bit before consumption. But that's just me. Anyway, they had no problem at all taking it back and heating it up for me (yes, I know you're all worried about the same thing that I always worry about but let's not think about that, right?). When it arrived back it was absolutely perfect. The texture was creamy without being overly thick, the flavours were distinct, it had just enough ingedients to feel stew-like. Man, I could go for another bowl right now. For dinner I ordered the Maine Lobster Roll. I can happily report that I was mmmm-ing throughout my lobster roll. Audibly. It was absoutely dee-lish-us. And even though that I feel on principle that lobster rolls are a huge rip-off, this lobster roll was filled to overflowing and was so delectable that I didn't even feel like a sucker. On the whole, I would happily recommend the Red Hook Lobster Pound.

Red Hook Lobster Pound Food Truck

By Howard M |

The Red Hook Lobster Pound Food Truck appears at various food festivals around the NY NJ area during the summer. They appeared at the Monmouth Park Racetrack Food Truck Festival in Oceanport NJ over the Memorial Day Weekend. We visited on Monday and the line was only a half hour wait. We were told the line for their lobster roll on Saturday and Sunday was over an hour long. We can certainly understand why because their Lobster Rolls are delicious.

Tasted great and amazing food

By TX0810 |

This review is for the red hook food truck that is by the Rockefeller center. We got the lobster roll and shrimp salad, both tasted good. Service was good though a bit slow for me, said they were just opening. We got some coupons from touring Top of the Rock so the offset the price but not much.

Great Staff, Not So Great Food

Staff is friendly, fun and helpful. Food portions pretty small. Good beer selection. Quality of food average.

Excellent Connecticut Lobster Roll

By UStravelmaxx |

This was the first visit and walked to the restaurant from my hotel. The greeter was stationed outside and promptly found me a table inside. There is outdoor seating as well as indoor seating weather permitting. The menu is the placemat on the table and offers several Lobster and Seafood favorites. Ordered the Connecticut lobster roll with a side for $26. The options for sides were French fries, sweet potato fries, potato salad, or dinner salad. The lobster roll arrived promptly and was served with red-skinned potato salad, a dill coleslaw, and a pickle. The lobster roll was Fresh doughy Bread toasted and filled to overflowing with a lobster meat. This lobster roll had a wonderful buttery flavor. Unlike many lobster rolls, the bread was not hard or saturated with butter to the point that it become an ineffective sandwich. My server, Michael was very efficient and helpful. This restaurant is in a storefront location with parking along the street. The decor is modest and casual, but inviting. You don't come for the atmosphere. It's all about the food!

Lobster week

By Leroy |

Was lucky enough to go on lobster week and have the lobster special which was an absolutely delicious one and a half pound lobster. One slight area for improvement is that the sides did not stand up beside how amazing the lobster was, coleslaw tasted a little old and potato salad was ok but not amazing

One of the best in the New York City

By dnvpaul |

This place is terrific. One of the reasons why I write that it is one of the best is that you have your choice of style for a lobster roll - Maine, Tuscan, and Connecticut. The price is reasonable. They serve Steve's famous Key Lime pie!

average at best

By A N |

Had been wanting to try this place since i had seen it on traveling show, 9.99 With Dave Evans, Must say there was not a $9.99 item on the menu. But thats not why It got the Average rating. Arrived and was seated promptly the waitress was attentive and seemed to be on top of things, however I ordered drinks, soup, appetizer and entree all at once , because i knew exactly what i wanted. Waitress brought over the drinks and before i could enjoy my cocktail which was quite tasty the soup and appetizers arrived, all at once. The soup was cold and New England Chowder should not have a overpowering taste of celery in it. The fried pickles were sliced to thick and just to sour, However The crap dip was tasty and the fresh chips were a plus. Finished appetizers and tried to get back to cocktail but the taste of food spoiled the now watered down cocktail. Had to ask waitress please hold off on the entrees as we were not in a rush.I had the Lobster Roll as an entree and at the last minute changed my order for potato salad instead of green salad and its was neither a problem or an issue, waitress brought both and both were very good. The actual lobster roll was delicious .

Hooked on the lb!

By Allison B |

Worth a trip! This place creatively integrate lobster into a variety of fun dishes (lobster mac and cheese, lobster nachos), outside of the classics like the divine lobster roll! Even the skinny lobster roll in a lettuce wrap, is on point and tasty! Sweet potato fries compliment any main nicely. The playful and cozy environment, with fun cocktails to match the low key cuisine, rounds out the experience. In the summer, grab a to go order and set up shop in Valentino Park for a real Red Hook experience to remember!

Greed has overtaken even this place

By Brooklyn-Jared |

Once a great place. Still good quality. Portions smaller. Prices through the roof. Basic lobster roll $26. Maybe they sold out to a PE firm? Or they think Red Hook is the Hamptons. A shame

Brilliant service, fantastic food- thoroughly enjoyable!!

By Clairemacdoo |

Booked this restaurant online before we traveled to New York from the Uk. Turned up early but it was no problem. Lovely lady (Carinne) served us. We chose lobster rolls and Lobster dinner (special offer on Wednesdays). Also ordered fresh oysters -Fabulous! Interior was shabby/chic contemporary.Bohemian part of Brooklyn on the cusp of being very special.

Best lobster I've ever tasted!

By Rebecca H |

My husband found this restaurant before we travelled to New York and oh, how it was worth travelling to Brooklyn for, this amazing little gem of a place is a must visit. The staff are super lovely and the service was fab. The lobster rolls are the nest I've ever tasted - we had the fried lobster and the lobster BLT. My son has the seafood pasta. All of the food was so fresh, tasty and moreish. I would highly recommend the Red Hook Lobster Pound.

Took the IKEA Ferry Out to Brooklyn for Lobster

By Kim D |

We made an outing from Manhattan to Red Hook, Brooklyn by taking the IKEA Ferry from Pier 11 down on Wall Street. We walked about 15 blocks to Van Brunt to have lobsters at Red Hook Lobster Pound. We ordered the lobster boil and added $10 for clams, mussels, shrimp and sausage. Very pleased--and really, there was more than enough food without the add-on. Very friendly family place. We went back to IKEA for dessert and took the ferry back to Manhattan. A very fun day. We returned after dark and enjoyed spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline.

Lobster deliciousness!

By LetterioZ |

We have tried the lobster meal, the lobster roll, the lobster BLT...all are so good! We had lunch here, then went down the street to check out a bakery , and Steve's (also really good!) key lime pie place. We also took in the pretty view of the Statue of Liberty from the local park and snapped some nice photos. Before heading home, we stopped at The Lobster Pound again and got two lobster rolls to take home for later- they are that good!

Da best

By Patrick Y |

I've tried them all. This is the one and only for me. No other place does a better lobster roll. They have updated the spot with a bar and wait staff!

Delish ... Best lobster rolls

By Kappa1991 |

Simply the best lobster rolls anywhere in NYC. Super fast service ... Friendly and professional ... Best tasting lobster rolls. You must visit the Lobster Pound in Red Hook. Yummmmmmmm

Great Lobster, Great area

By mexit |

This place has a perfect location. Just a few blocks off the nyc ferry in Red Hook. They have a lobster tank in one of the abutting rooms. Restaurant is not large but enough space to dine and certainly enjoy the atmosphere of an old building with renovations that fit the cuisine. Noted for their lobster rolls. I just had the regular one. Pretty decent size menu. They do have an excellent hamburger if one does not desire seafood. Would go back many times. People who live near Wall St can take a ferry right to Red Hook for $2.75.

Delicious lobster outside Maine

By Wanja O |

I'm very much a believer in New England lobster rolls but this place is pretty darn good! We got the Connecticut and Maine style lobster rolls and I think the Maine style won the race. Good fries and service and a decent selection of beers. Great ambiance. Bring your partner of your friends, or even kids. Light bubbly spot that everyone can enjoy and it won't totally bankrupt you!

Great seafood at an affordable price!

By Abigail |

I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to dine during happy hour where I had the $1 oysters, which were so delicious. The lobster Mac and cheese is a must have when dining there as it is just simply flavour heaven! Our hostess was so professional and very prompt with our orders and never hesitated to help with our concerns.

girls trip

By Jane M |

we shared the lobster rolls - the Maine and the Connecticut- The Connecticut was the winner! also tried the fried clam strips- I thought they were a little over done- Overall a nice place for a good lobster roll in Red Hook

Great lobster roll and atmosphere

By vitoa36 |

I visited the new Red Hook restaurant I'm Brooklyn and it is great. The place is furnished like a boat (check the bathroom!). The lobster roll is great. Their Maine Roll (formerly Massachusetts) is packed with lobster, just a bit of mayo and topped with paprika and scallions. Their Connecticut roll is warm and buttery. Both very yummy. They also serve craft beers. Highly recommended.

Tasty lobster rolls

By yessie3000 |

This restaurant is definitely not convenient to get to but based on the yelp reviews I had to try this place at least once. I tried their Maine lobster roll which came with a pickle and fries for twenty dollars. My meal was excellent but the portion was a lot less then what I expected (Im used to the lobster roll from Panera which h is definitely larger but not as good). The service was prompt and the staff was very friendly. The restaurant was larger than what I expected but the seating could be better. The chairs were not that comfortable to me but I'd definitely return.

Lovely, Lobster, Location

By danielmillstone |

We went for the Wednesday $25 Lobster special dinner and special it was. Potato, corn, slaw, melted butter good. Lobster? Amazing. Lobster rolls very high on the list of best. We sat outside but the inside is very pretty (trust me, visit the bathroom). Excellent beer (but is that news these days?) Easy cycling from Manhattan or Brooklyn but it's a bus or a hike to the subway.

Excellent lobster and chowder, alright service

By Gloria H |

We had an hour to kill before a concert around the corner, so we decided to finally try the Red Hook Lobster Pound. It was a Thursday night and the dining room was almost completely empty. It seemed like there were 3-4 front of house staff on the floor, but it took them a long time to acknowledge and seat us. This seemed to be the theme the night (not just for us). We ordered the new england clam chowder, fish and chips, and classic lobster roll. The clam chowder was probably my favorite, standing out against other clam chowders I've had before. The fish and chips were well seasoned, although the breading was a bit salty for the SO's taste (and he loves salt). The fries were cooked perfectly. The lobster roll was a decent sized portion, they definitely did not skimp on the lobster, which I appreciate. The sweet potato fries were cooked well, but needed salt. In general, their portions are decent and worth the price. I really wish I could give half stars, but I'll round up to be fair. Maybe it was a fluke but overall, I was unimpressed due to the slow inattentive service. Whenever it takes too much effort for me to flag down a server, it cuts into my enjoyment of the meal. This is such a huge deal breaker for me. I would come back again and give them another shot with the hopes that service is better.

Ideal spot for lobsters, adorable staff

By bernardtrapiche |

Rarely in a big city environment, do you find a good and affordable place for lobsters. The Red Hook Lobster Pound is one, where you can chose between a variety of lobster rolls, with the right quantity of meat and sides. Salads and soups are also offered as well as a couple of meat dishes for the seafood allergics. What contributes a lot to the relaxed and informal atmosphere is the staff, efficient and adorable.

Freshest lobster

We had The Poundster and it was delicious. It had snow crab legs, Rick crab claws, a 1 1/2 lbs lobster, mussels, clams, corn on the cob, potatoes etc. Perfect for sharing by 2 people. It was very tasty, though the garlic was a bit much. But we just brushed them aside. All the seafood was very fresh. The clam chowder has chunks of clams in it. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. From Manhattan, one can take a ferry from Pier 11 to the IKEA pier. From there , it’s a pleasant 10-15 min leisurely walk to the restaurant. On the weekends, the IKEA ferry is free.

Amazing lobster roll

By cpbolivia |

The service and food was delicious. We'd go back again. Three of us ordered the lobster roll and one ordered the fish and chips. Everybody was happy. It's a quaint area to walk around after or before dinner. Highly recommended.

Best lobster roll ever!!! Anywhere!!

By Whyknott |

Everything is good here. Just go get a lobster roll and enjoy the experience. And if you like chowder, grab a bowl of that too.

Freshest Lobster out there!

By canelarican05 |

No waiting time - made reservations and are seated right away! The service was impeccable! Our waitress, Ellie, was super friendly and attentive. The other bus boys/waiter would also check in on you when they had a moment. The food was extremely fresh - lobster was so juicy and sweet. I will definitely be visiting that place again!!

Great lobster lunch!

By basothebest |

The restaurant is very simple but colourful and beautiful. We ate lobster dinner (with potatos), caesar lobster salad, shrimps and everything was very tasty and good. I cried during eating every lobster part! We took 1 beer. We spent 66 $. Great place!

Excellent Lobsters

By George B |

This is part of the revitalization of Red Hook and a fine addition. We were staying in the nearby Comfort Inn where the desk clerk recommended this restaurant. We had lobster dinners (Wednesday special) and enjoyed them thoroughly. It was a fine evening so we ate outside, though I imagine it might not be as quiet and pleasant during the day. We will definitely come again next time we're in NYC.

Good food. Service, not so Good.

By Jundullah |

I am giving it a 4/5 rating for the taste of the food. The service is not good (I didn't say horrible). May be it was my luck to get a waiter that did not like me/us. Or waited on more familiar customer. She was not available most of the time we needed something. Although they screwed up one of our order, I am still giving it a high rating because most of us enjoyed what we ordered. When you ask them not to put something specific on your food, make sure you CHECK it before you eat it. Chances are they screwed up the order. Overall the waiters can be a little bit more friendlier (at least the one we had). Should check with the customers often and see if there is anything needed. A bit pricey. But it was not a sellout point. Would love to give this place a 5 star...they are almost there. Just need to be a bit more friendly, take accurate orders, and smile a bit more often (yes, management too).

Great

By JulieLapPlo |

We went there after reading reviews on internet. We enjoyed our drinks and the food. Our server was really nice! We didn't have to wait too long to have a table. The decor is fun. We had a great time as a family! We would to back.

Lobster BLT!!

By Carolyn M |

Grabbed a lobster BLT and lobster mac and cheese to go. This stuff is addicting. Full of flavor and nicely sized. If we would have stayed, I would have ordered more. Yes it was that good.

OMG lobster dinner special a must have , the burgers are off the chain, the service and being greeted by such a Happy bunch of dedicated servers. Always a flow of hungry people.

Birthday pick me up

By KatWomanNYC |

Since NYC is on PAUSE due to the coronavirus global pandemic, we are in town for my birthday instead of traveling. We've been preparing our own meals for weeks but decided to order out as a treat. We ordered our usual lobster rolls with Brussels sprouts and everything turned out great. The fries were still hot and crunchy which I suspect means there is no traffic since so many people are at home. It's definitely not the same as visiting in person but we did enjoy it.

All that it is cracked up to be.

What started with favorable buzz on their food truck has enabled expansion to several food trucks and a restaurant in Brooklyn. Last month visited the restaurant for the first time and was not disappointed. We shared a delicious crab dip to start. I had a lobster roll which was one of the best I've had. It was a Wednesday which made it "Lobster Wednesday" which serves lobster dinners all day for $25. My wife went with that and enjoyed her dinner. Wait staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended.

Very nice place, real butter

By VivP2 |

Great Wednesday $25 dollar deal at a really nice place in Red Hook. The lobster was excellent and they have real butter! Make sure you visit the bathroom, really cool.

Mediocre food

By TRAVGIRL01 |

I came here with my husband for dinner. Restaurant was busy but we got a table within a few minutes. I thought that the menu was very limited and although they have a bar, the drink selection was also poor. We got the fish of the day and the lobster dinner (today's price $35 for lobster and $18 for the fish). Fish was well prepared but unseasoned and bland. Lobster was very chewy and butter over salted. Fries were seasoned with something but lacked salt and were not very good. Our server was friendly but not overly attentive. Once we dropped a utensil, second one was never offered; if we wanted a second drink- had to flag him down after waiting for some time, never got a refill of the water, I spilled my butter into my plate and was not able to get attention of the server to get a replacement-just gave up and got all napkins taken off the table before we were finished with dessert. Speaking of dessert... there are two options: funnel cake and key lime pie. We got the pie- it was okay, nothing to write home about and served in a tin plate. Restaurant does not serve coffee or tea- which was not unexpected. Overall, I felt that the food was mediocre at best, service a bit lacking and all else about average. Not bad for one visit, but would not go back again.

Great food and excellent service.

By Mark G |

Loved the lobster rolls and probably had the most geniunely best service we had in New York. Had a young girl serve us who did her very best in an unusually genuine way and even took the hint that a friend had a birthday and fixed little cake for him. Highly recommend this restaurant or their other in Manhattan.

So sooo good!

By melissa_torre |

Found this place by pure casualty (just happened to be driving by) and I'm so glad I did! Got to share the New England Clam Chowder, Brussel Sprouts, Maine Lobster Roll, and BLT (yes bacon!) Lobster Roll; everything delicious. Service was great and will definitely be coming back to try other items in the menu.... like those Lobster Cheese Fries, so tempting! Keep it up! PS. Please be ready to spend, is not a super pricey place but you are eating lobster (which is never cheap) and you will surely like to try a couple of things at a time.

Lobster lobsters lobsters!

Great little lobster place. Great service. Very clean. Lobsters free and generous portions. Great cocktails. Been before and will come again and again and again.

Our first lobster (this trip)

By David R |

This is a little out of the way place very near the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. We had lunch here before we got on the boat for our cruise. There were 8 of us and we had a little bit of everything and all of it was great. This is definitely a place worth trying.

Excellent. Let buster rolls and other seafood

By Allan S |

Great place for your local buster and other seafood fix. They do wonderful lobster rolls in a rather drab setting. Do not let decor. Fool you the food is top notch. Nice people who can do a private party as well for special occasions. Red hook is a bit out of the way but worth it.

Good food, not noisy (smile)

By Helen L |

We went here for a late lunch, it was not very busy at that time but there were a number of tables being served. While there was music, it did not blare so you could enjoy conversation without raising your voice ( always a bonus). Service was quick, friendly, and efficient. Our waitress did recommend the crispy Brussels sprouts and we enjoyed them immensely as a shareable appetizer. I highly recommend their crispy Brussels sprouts, simply scrumptious! Two of us had “The Connecticut “ lobster roll and two enjoyed the Seafood Pasta. The pasta people both enjoyed their meals completely. The lobster rolls were chock full of perfectly cooked and seasoned lobster on a delicious bun with sides of fries and pickle. Very good! Also, I especially enjoyed the organic Maine root beer. I certainly think you get your money’s worth here.

Transformed, the place is a pleasure to have a meal

By shellyf |

A few years ago, you went in, ordered from a counter, got your food and went next door to sit down. Now they made it into a very handsome restaurant with seating and a bar area. My wife and I had the lobster roll, of course, but we chose the meal, which was $21. Lobster roll alone is $17. The meal came with a pickle, cole slow and choice of fries, potato salad or salad. The potato salad was excellent but the star of the show was the split, toasted roll piled high with fresh lobster meat. WOW! Delicious. We really enjoyed it. My wife also had a cup of New England clam chowder, which she loved. Service was helpful and friendly. We'll be back! PS they also have a store right next door for take out.

A famous lobster roll !

By Emmanuelle66 |

We went this summer in NYC for vacations, and we wanted to test a famous dish of NYC ! A friend tell us to go TO Red Hook Lobster Pound because its were amazing ! I confirm, that was very good, fresh and surprising with a friendly welcome ! Very good address !

Yep this is it.

By fancylisa |

Always on the search for the "best lobster roll EVER", this place is up there! I got both the Connecticut roll and the Maine roll and was hoping to also try the sweet potato fries, but that wasn't offered in the take out menu (just the rolls and a few sides and bisque). Both rolls were absolutely delicious, fresh and bursting with lobster! At $17 a roll, not bad at all! I was pleasantly surprised when it took me 4-5 bites (big bites) per roll and lobster was falling out of the roll! What! When does that ever happen? This spot is going to be a regular, no doubt about it. I usually prefer the Connecticut roll because its nice and warm, but both were equally good and the bread is on point.

Very nice place out of touristic path

By Luca G |

In New York from Italy for a week holiday with the family, we left Manhattan to explore Brooklyn and we found this nice warm restaurant. Good kinds menu for our little one, great choice of delicious fish for the others. The Clam Chowder, the Lobster roll and the fish and chips were very good, adequate portions. The crew was very kind and the owner sat down at our table for a chat. We appreciated the food and the atmosphere. Honest price being in NY. Recomended

First ever lobster roll

By cactidaan |

Had never heard of a lobster roll before, but it sounded like everyone in America loves them so we went out of our way to make sure we tried one! Definitely tricky to get to via public transport from where we staying near Central Park, but am SO GLAD we got there. So buttery, so soft, so delicious. Have been craving one ever since we got home!

LOVE!!

By bates4 |

We love Red Hook Lobster! We've been there 4 times this summer. Great lobster special & great drinks!

Super yummy lobster and super friendly people

By getsmart |

We dropped by RHLB on a Saturday night. The place was busy but they had several seats open at the bar so we saddled up and ordered a couple brews and some lobster rolls hold the roll. What a fun place. Clean, bright, simple menu and delicious lobster. I ordered mine as traditional style with light seasoned mayo. My date had the vinegar basil dressing on hers. Totally fresh served with side salad and a little helping of coleslaw. There is very little dressing and mostly lobster. Try it out. You won't be disappointed.

Great lobster roll

By Leonardo M |

We ordered lobster and avocado salad and shrimps as starters. Both were excellent even though shrimps were very very spicy. Then we got two lobster rolls that were really great. The only negative surprise was the price, almost 120 USD. I know we ate lobster but in Brooklyn and in a place with paper towels. Nevertheless I strongly recommend it.

We stopped here on a Saturday

By MrandMrsWilliams |

We stopped here on a Saturday night and ordered to go while on our way back to Staten Island from spending time bowling in the the city. My husband and son went in and ordered to go and they were so nice and gave my son a drink while they waited. We have been to burger and lobster and Luke’s lobster but this place really stood out. The lobster roll was delicious and the fries that came with it stood fresh 25min later. It was all worth every penny

Lobster Truck in Rockefeller Center

By MareMareb |

There is a Red Hook Lobster Pound truck in front of my job. I Decided to treat myself to a Lobster Roll for lunch today. I'm not too happy!!! First of all, for the price the lobster roll should be a little bigger. Second, the lobster was not cooked and it did not have any flavor. I did not enjoy this Lobster Roll...I'm afraid it's just another Tourist Trap.....another good place gone bad....

Love my "Lobsta" rolls!

By Sandi L |

Decided to treat a friend to lobster rolls. We arrived around 11:45 am on a Sunday. There was one couple already there. The place is very industrial looking and there is no softness to absorb sound. As the restaurant filled up it got louder and louder. A lot of families with young children. Probably wouldn't be like this for dinner crowds but this was a lunch crowd. Nice groups of people. Now to the best part -- the food. There were 3 of us. Two of us had lobster rolls and one had the Cod fish sandwich, all served with sweet potato fries and cole slaw. We also ordered a Lobster Mac 'N' Cheese for the table. I also had a cup of the Clam Chowder which was nice and creamy but the potatoes were inconsistently cooked. They have three different styles of lobster rolls but I like the original. After lunch two of us split a "Steve's Key Lime Pie". Everything was delicious and we will go back for more! The only complaint was that they didn't serve coffee!!!!

First Lobster Roll ever!

By Bart O |

Loved it! I preferred the Connecticut instead of the Classic because it actually tasted like you would think a lobster roll should taste (maybe because of the butter?). The fries were perfect but most off all Mara was the most perfect sweet and lovely host! We had fun times with her and Susan (the owner).

Just bad

By shelby65MO |

Service. A zero. Food. A zero. The lobster dry. The cost for food high. Slow service. Waiter got everything wrong. By the time ee ate we were very sorry we stayed. Just simply all no good. The waiter ignored us while on his cell phone. Wrong food delivered. If I had to reveiw un two words -I would say - it sucks

Loved it the first time, disappointed the second time.

By Caitlin Y |

We first tried Red Hook at Laurita Winery's Food Trucks and Fire Pits event in Fall 2014 and we were obsessed. We spent all year raving about how this was the best lobster roll we had ever tasted. The bread was crispy and the perfect ratio to the massive chunks of lobster drizzled with butter and lemon. However. We went back to the Food Trucks and Fire Pits event this year and were very disappointed with Red Hook. They were sold out of everything except the Conn. lobster roll, which is advertised as served with warm butter, lemon, and topped with paprika and scallions. Ours definitely came sans scallions. The bread was soggy and even though we watched them make our rolls, they tasted as if they had been made hours ago and left to sit in the heat all day. It’s hard to pinpoint whether we had just built up an unrealistic expectation over the year or they simply were not as good. One thing is certain, however, I would have preferred to save that space for some of the other delicious offerings at the event. Read our full review on our blog, Two Forks and a Corkscrew.

Bigger and Still Great

By LKM |

The Red Hook Lobster Pound, until about a month ago, was a hole-in-the-wall place to get a fresh and tasty lobster roll. Now it has expanded into a bustling space next door, with table service, alchololic beverages, and a full menu. The seafood platter -with lobster, clams, mussels, potatoes, and corn-is easily shareable and totally delicious.

Wow brilliant

By julie c |

Wow, what a place! If you’re in Red Hook, you must go to Red Hook Lobster Pound. From the moment we walked in, the staff treated us like old friends—so warm, welcoming, and nothing was ever too much trouble. The drinks were fantastic, the food was sensational (and very reasonably priced!), and the atmosphere was just perfect. We were only in town for three days, but each time we went back, they remembered us and greeted us like family. That personal touch really made the experience special. It’s rare to find a spot that combines incredible food, great value, and such genuinely kind service, but Red Hook Lobster Pound nails it. Thank you for making our visit so memorable—you really looked after us. From the Claytons: Highly, highly recommend!

Lobsterlicious!!!

By SusannJohn |

First time here and we loved it! Quaint, great atmosphere, good music, delicious meal and drinks, clean facility, friendly wait staff all in a great location. Lots of dif lobster rolls. I don't like bread or mayo with my lobster so lobster roll did not sound good, however, you can order with lettuce instead of bread and there are are without mayo...loved it!!! I got the Connecticut lobster roll. Iced tea is fresh brewed, but not sweetened....they bring simple syrup if you wish to sweeten yourself. And finally, key lime pie....yum!

Lobster rolls are excellent.

By Bruce H |

We ordered 2 lobster rolls to share. One Maine style and one Connecticut style. We both preferred the Connecticut style, but the Maine style was also excellent. The cups of New England chowder that we had first were nice, but not remarkable. It was a mid-week lunch meal. The place was still busy, but the service was fast, so all good.

two thumbs up from this new englander!

By kerryQuade |

long time fan of their delicious rolls… the offer several variations that include the traditional MAINE roll ( YUM! ) as well as my other fave the Connecticut Roll…there are others versions but those are my top 2 choices! with a recent reDO the pound now offers sit down dining and a bar… i didn't think it could get any better but now it is a total destination. new items on the menu that are a must order - the lobster cheese fries ( I'm not joking… ) & the lobster dip ( WOW ). there are quite a few other things i want to try on the new menu and will certainly be back soon to do so. with the reDo te whole place has undergone a transformation and they have put such love into the space… the seaside decor is not your standard expected look, and don't miss the bathroom. basically no stone was left unturned and the attention to detail throughout the whole experience is to be commended…well done!

Love the lobster packed roll!!

By Diana B |

I love tasting lobster rolls all around my city. This is actually unique and simple. Lobsters are alive in a lobster like container. Order on one side and sit on another picnic type wood seating. Sit yourself and go at it. I had the Maine lobster with some mac and cheese w lobster. A bit pricey for just sandwiches but they are so much more "great lobster packed" on a bun. Any questions feel free to ask. Lifetravelclub@gmail.com

Yummy hip lobster place in Brooklyn, off the beaten tourist trail.

By nicola |

What a lovely place! We found it to have a very welcoming vibe, the wait staff took time to talk us through the menu and after we’d said we’d never had lobster before, made suggestions on choosing the more classic lobster roll rather than getting a full lobster. The decor’s really cool and there’s a great range of craft beers. It’s away from super touristy places and was full of New Yorkers young and old.

Stick with the lobster roll

By Mystiqz |

Came here around noon over the weekend with a group of 3. Had no issues getting a seat. Hostess was friendly and we sat at one of the picnic tables setup. We shared the table with another party of 3. One of the waiters was kind enough to bring my friend a chair so he didn't have to sit at the edge of the bench. I decided to come here because NY Eater highly recommended their burger in addition to their lobster roll. I am a big fan of Luke's lobster so I felt obligated to try one of their competitors. For starters, we ordered the lobster mac and cheese. Nothing to write home about the mac and cheese. Nothing special with the cheese used. The top layer of the cheese wasn't a little crispy. The dish was basically just lobster thrown into the bottom and mac and cheese on top. I thought it would have been something different. Some parts of the dish still felt a little "grainy" (not from the lobster, but from the cheese). There bits and pieces of lobster in it but a dish as a whole, it wasn't impressive and I would not recommend it. For main course, we ordered the Hook Burger, Connecticut Lobster Roll, and Maine Lobster Roll. I actually liked the hook burger. It was seasoned well and used nice small pieces of pepper. You can actually taste a difference. Parts of the burger did come medium rare but about a 1/3 of the burger was medium. I may be wrong about this, the burger was juicy but it seemed there was some water content in it. It didn't taste like fat, but maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention. The buns were toasted but the side that was in contact with the tomato and lettuce, it was soggy. I would recommend them just putting it on the side and the customers can add it in. The fries were good. The pickle seemed a little strange to me. It was a little "soggy". It didn't have that nice crunch to it. Not sure if it's the style of this particular manufacturing company but it wasn't as appetizing. Both lobsters roll were excellent. I will just discuss the connecticut one because it is similar to Luke's lobster roll. In terms of freshness of the lobster meat, I would have to give it to Red Hook. In terms of correct ratio of amount of butter on it, I would give it to Luke's lobster. In my opinion, the Red Hook roll had too much butter on it and it detracted your taste buds from the meat itself. Both places gave similar amount of meat. Both places make great rolls, I just prefer Luke's. Actually, I prefer Red Eats in Maine, but that's too far away =D For drinks, we ordered the maine root beer. I did not get a chance to ask which company root beer they use but I liked it a lot. It isn't as sweet as Bargs. I'm not sure what ingredients to use but I'm assuming they used some wintergreen and anise, amongst other ingredients. Nice balance to it and had a nice strong "root" taste. Overall, I would rate this place a solid 3.5 stars. Giving it 4 because you can't do 0.5 on yelp. Service was excellent. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. There was a mistake with how much each credit card was supposed to get charged but the issue was quickly resolved and our waiter was extremely polite and professional about it. I would recommend coming here. The motivation to come to this place was because I read an article about their burger on a reputable food website. I think their burger was good, but not excellent. When I come here again, I will stick with the lobster rolls.

Family dinner

By BlackBoriken |

I'm not sure what it was but my family and I had such a good dining experience. I made reservations for 8 for my mother's birthday. The staff was friendly and the food was amazing. I recently went to Maine, and went to many lobster pounds there. While the food wasn't as fresh as it was in Maine, the food was still excellent, although my grandmother and mother in law did not like their clam chowder. I liked the décor and overall vibe of the place. Definitely recommend.

friendly service good food

By Brian B |

Being a lovely Autumn day we sat outside to enjoy a traditional Maine lobster roll. What impressed was the ability to have a range of sides so you could have either chips or coleslaw or green salad etc.Portion size is not huge

Same great lobster, but what happened to the service?

By Babaraheeb |

We regularly take our grandson here for lobster when we are in town.$1 oysters in Happy Hour and fresh hard shell lobsters. Usually the service is friendly and efficient. This evening only 3 tables of customers, including us. My husband had to get up 4 times to ask for things to eat. I had to get up to ask for water. Pathetic. Great oysters and lobsters. I had a lobster roll which was supposed to be warm with buttered lobster. Not warm and not freshly cooked lobster. French fries with it barely warm. Looks like we'll have to find a new place to carry on our tradition!

Very Good Lobster Roll

By GrandPaRuss |

Took a trip onto the Red Hook section of Brooklyn. Saw this place reviewed on TV and decided it would make for an interesting Saturday afternoon. One of the best lobster rolls I have ever had. You order in one store and go to the next one to await your food. And they have sarsaparilla in a bottle. Worth the trip, especially when you can venture a few more blocks and have key lime pie at Steve Key Lime.

Hooked on Red Hook

Cool and very popular place in trendy Red Hook. You may lose the will to live waiting for a table, menu and drink. But, keep positive and keep breathing, as the food is really worth the wait!

Excellent But Pricey Lobster Roll

By Sue3cats |

Went on a Tuesday for lunch and the place was not busy. Friendly and efficient service. The Classic Lobster Roll was delicious -- overflowing with large pieces of fresh lobster meat. The accompanying fries and coleslaw were also excellent. But $25??

High prices for lobster

By DAPJr112 |

I've been here twice in the past year and, although the service is very pleasant, and the lobster fresh, the prices are high ($26 for a lobster roll - and the bun wasn't even toasted!!).

The original and still the best!

By Thomas J |

I live in D.C. and am so happy there's a truck here now, but there's nothing like going back to the original spot in Red Hook on a balmy summer weekend. Maybe it's just as much nostalgia, but somehow it always tastes best there. This is the closest I've come to the summers of yore spent eating lobster and drinking cheap beer on the Cape.

Excellent lobster dishes

We enjoyed the dishes we ordered from their outlet at the Smorgasburg park in Brooklyn. Service was prompt and prices were reasonable

What a lobster shack should be in NYC!

This place is just what it should be. The lobster rolls are great and the clam chowder was too. Nice people work there as well.

Lovely Lobster

By Owdman |

Arrived in Red Hook on the Queen Mary 2 and decided to try the Lobster Pound after reading a recommendation on one of the cruise forums. We were quickly seated as we arrived early, but the restaurant quickly filled and was soon full. We had oysters and then both had the lobster dinner. Lovely freshly cooked 1 1/2lb lobster, certainly well up to the standard of lobster we had last summer in Nova Scotia, though there the lobster was usually already partly cut to make eating it easier, as opposed to being whole. Excellent service, good food and a wide choice of beers, what's not to like?

The best authentic lobster experience in NY

Really enjoyable meal, I can't wait to return!

Delicious brunch, I loved it here. I took the NYC water ferry over from Wall St, Pier 11. So simple and quick and well worth the journey. The food was delicious and the server was very helpful with her recommendations and ensuring we were happy. Tables were cleared efficiently and quickly by the busboys. There were plenty of large screens on to watch the sports on. The atmosphere was great and I had a really enjoyable meal there. Fried Calamari was delicious and Lobster Mac n Cheese was amazing! I can’t wait to return. It makes me feel hungry just thinking about the place!

NOT QUITE MAINE!

By kmormlo |

I had been looking forward to eating here for a long time. Maybe having been brought up in New England I've ben spoiled by years by the most delicious Lobster in the world! Whatever you do, don't order the Fried Clams, which should be plump and tasty! Here they are fried to such a crispy there is no clam left, just crisp, which you cannot even spear a fork into! Not much you can do to spoil a Lobster Roll, and although it was tasty, the amount of Lobster in the roll was skimpy.Sadly, I was disappointed and feel no need to return.

Superb Lobster Rolls. Anything Lobster actually...

By Nick F |

I go out of my way to get to Rehook Pound everytime I am in the NYC area. I love the variety of lobster rolls and the service is really great. I got the chance to meet the manager and the owners; great people with a single goal, serve the best lobster roll period. I believe they have succeeded, it is tops in my book.

A little bit of the shore in Red Hook

By Gepetto718 |

The Lobster Pound is like many places you will experience if you go to Cape Cod or Maine. There is a restaurant and a market where you can buy lobster, so you know the product is fresh. There is also a full bar which usually features a selection of beers on tap and bottled. It is very casual and typically noisy like such places are at the beach. The good news is that the food here is also very good as at those beach places. I have had excellent raw bar oysters there and the clam strips are also very good. My wife has separately had the fried belly clams - they are not always available but if they are get them - excellent! Fish-n-chips very fresh and crispy wiht good fries. Of course, the main reason to go there is for the lobster! I have had the lobster dinner and it was fabulous. My wife has had the Maine lobster roll and it is pretty authentic and of course fresh and delicious. I recently had the 'Cobbster salad' - a Cobb salad with about half of a lobster in it - very good and a lot of food. It can get crowded at dinner so be prepared to wait if you go at peak times but it's worth a wait.

Highly Recommended

By R-J-7589 |

We visited here from our hotel in Wall Street. A pleasant $2.75 ferry trip to Red Hook harbour and then a short 5 minute walk. A very well presented and clean restaurant with adjoining takeaway counter. It was family friendly and welcomed drinkers too, with a bar serving a great selection of beers on tap. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. A large varied interesting menu. The Cobbster salad was absolutely incredible. Would make a special trip back just to have that again.

Delicious lobster rolls!

Excellent time in this restaurant! The lobster rolls are famous, the draft beer is refreshing, the service is extremely welcoming and cheerful. The setting is very nice. The Red Hook neighborhood is worth the detour and this restaurant is one of the reasons why!

We went to red hook lobster pound on fathers day. We didnt have a reservation but only had to wait only about 20 minutes for a reservation.. they had an awesome price fix 4 course meal (plus a beer) for $65 and dads got a free lobster if they ordered from that menu!! We didnt do the price fix becuse it was too much food for lunch! We got the fried clam strips, a connecticut lobster roll, a crab cake sandwich and a side of brussel sprouts which were amazin! This place is def a must try!!! Cant wait to go back

Seafood Perfection with Summer Vibes 😉

By blazine |

My mother and I came here recently craving some good seafood, and we were absolutely blown away by what we found. The seafood was incredibly fresh, bursting with flavor, and perfectly seasoned. Every dish came in generous portions, and the shareable plates were ideal for two. I ordered the New England Seafood Boil and devoured every bite — it was that good. The staff treated us so warmly, and the atmosphere was giving total summer vibes, especially with a cocktail in hand. Truly a 10/10 experience — I can’t wait to come back and explore more of the menu! For more delicious finds like this, make sure to follow @blaze_eatsnyc for the best eats around NYC!

One awesome Lobster Roll !!!

By jsolo50_50 |

We have traveled to Maine several times and also along other areas of the east coast. We can't remember a better Lobster roll ! The chowder was a also great. Staff and service was very good. We sat and talked to the owner while we ate. It won't be our last time to this gem.

Will always go back - Great BLT Lobster roll

By KatWomanNYC |

I've tried Red Hook Lobster at Brooklyn Flea, the Manhattan food truck and finally the Van Brunt location. I've enjoyed it every time. A few weeks ago we had oysters Rockefeller, lobster BLT's and a new Lobster tank drink at the Van Brunt location. We headed back a few days later to get more oysters Rockefeller, BLT lobster rolls and lobster tank drinks. Everything was great, again. I tried the macaroni and cheese while hubby had sweet potato fries. We will go back.

Great lobster rolls

We were staying in the Seaport area and took the water taxi over to this place. My date had heard about this. It was a great find. It was the best lobster roll I ever had. I had the Maine she had the Connecticut. Both were sooooo good. Plus we had the lobster dip. I would recommend this place for sure!! It's a cool place and great people!! You really have to try it !!

Spicy, Spicy, Spicy

By executiveproducer |

Visited the lobster pound late in the evening and ordered for take-out, clam chowder and lobster bisque soups, and fish sandwiches. The food was packaged well, the seafood was fresh, but the abundance of hot spices on everything was horrible. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the food and surrounding area, and the decor was simplistic in this small establishment.

Great

I finally got a chance to visit the restaurant as opposed to ordering on Uber Eats. Everything was lovely. It’s a small place but they totally make it work. Everything was calm; food was DELISH; all the workers were polite. It’s a cute little spot for 2 or a small group. The only item I was not fond of was the Lobster Bloody Mary. I’ve never had a Bloody Mary before.

Pre Cruise Dinner

absolutely awesome dinner and experience $25 lobster dinner. 1 1/2 pond lobster, corn on cob and red potatoes. Yummy!!! Owner and husband stopped by table to chat. We would definitely come back.

Great lobster

Had dinner for four tonight. One lobster roll and three lobster dinners at 38 apiece. Very well served, well cooked and very tasty. A great place for lobster lovers.

Neven felt that unwelcome as here tonight

By Zhenja030 |

I’m sorry Paul that we haven’t ordered the whole lobster that you have been pushing to sell so hard. On our first night in New York we were really looking forward to enjoy your famous lobster roll. Unfortunately that was clearly way below your standard. But pushing the check in our face just because we are not in for a desert, while we are still halfway our drinks, and then return unasked with your payment device when we are not finished is just absolutely rude. You clearly wasn’t happy to serve us tonight. Being treated like that is not what we expected from a so well praised place.

When you're craving a lobster roll in NYC

By hkbuck |

We had a wonderful waitress who made our experience very pleasurable. She suggested we try both chowders, and they were both delicious, but I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the Down East Chowder was: flavorful and savory but light. I'd love to have that recipe! The fresh clam strips appetizer was also a nice surprise: perfectly crisp, tasty and light batter surrounding tender clam strips. The Classic and the Connecticut lobster rolls were as they should be, chock full of lobster on soft, buttered rolls. The fish n chips was excellent -- again, the fish was encased in a delicious batter and expertly fried. The crispy brussels sprouts with lobster caramel sauce can be ordered in place of french fries, and they were addictive. I hope to return soon!

If you love lobster, this is the place

By EnlaceCA |

It was my first time in this restaurant. I use to see if the place is full and with a long waiting list, that show me that must be good! The waiting line was 1 hour but it worth the time. My wife asked for the 1.5 lbs lobster, I took the lobster roll. (4 types) Very good and reasonable price. Try on Wednesday that they have a good special for the meal all day long. I will be here again.

Wow - delicious!

By Belgo96 |

I had the Maine Lobster roll. It was the most delicious tasting roll. It had a generous amount of lobster that was incredibly fresh. The sauce was very tasty and really added to it. Great atmosphere and this place feels really right in Red Hook. Friendly staff, excellent fresh food.

Great local beer apparently from around the corner and nice informal atmosphere. Very good experience all together. Will definitely come back next time!

Fanny Girl

By Rob Huijsmans |

Nice place, friendly people, good food, nice wine. The plank paneling around the terrace reminded me of a Classic Movie: Fanny Girl. In that film, Barabara Steisand almost eats 3 lobsters in a row. Until…..Go to See that movie! I advised them to put a Fanny Girl dish on the menu. The waiter responded enthusiastically.

Great food, prices went up though.

By cassieglove85 |

I went here back, pre-Sandy, when it was a little hole in the wall place. Now, it's a proper restaurant with table service. Food is always amazing. Only disappoint was prices went noticeably up since past visits, but I suppose they have more rent to cover now with the expanded space.

Very varied menu very convenient for the Brooklyn cruise Terminal.

We met American friends here Lovely varied menu. scrubbed tables.Excellent Lobster. Nice atmosphere easy to talk there wheelchair friendly Nice staff.

Seafood Abounds

By Marty D |

We are visiting from Denver, so it's wonderful to see a menu witg such a dun assortment of seafood. We picked the New England Seafood Boil and added a lobster. It was good, but it wasn't great. The mussels and clams were not very plump. The lobster-- the same. The corn, just a little beyond perfect. I loved the variety of lobster roll preparations offered. The menu is enticing from start to finish. Our neighbor's lobster roll looked good. I just wonder if they don't get many orders for the boil and so they don't quite have that down. Cordial and helpful service. A friendly place in a location that seems a bit off the tourist path.

Broadway Bites in Manhattan

By Mary L |

Enjoyed the Connecticut version of the Lobster Roll (warmed with butter and lemon)! Was fabulous! Broadway Bites by Urban Spaces is a fun venue and great place to try many different foods! Thanks for being a part of it or we would have missed out on the yummy lobster roll!

Quick lunch fund

By Caineiles |

We were working around the corner and stumbled upon this place. The place was very cool and hipster and very busy! We managed to get a table and all decided to prefer salads. The dishes turned up 5-7mjns after ordering and the portions were big. The whole dish was well executed and was thoroughly enjoyed.

Delicious

By MelodySPerry |

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this restaurant honestly by mistake and I am glad we did. The place is not huge but the food is well worth any wait. I love the oysters and they have a great $1 happy hour. On wednesday they have $25 lobster dinners which are awesome. I also enjoyed all of their rolls. the connecticut roll is my favorite. if you are ever in red hook please give this spot a try.

Fresh lobster

By Jon Pally |

The concept of a New England style sea food shack is brilliant & people seem to love it. The menu is a nice mix & food is fresh but there is room for improvement. We had the warm clam dip app. Which was very nice also the fried pickles which are sliced too thick. Entree of lobster sandwich was better than a lot but not as good as most New England places, sandwich should be larger with more meat. French fries could also be larger. For the most part a thumbs up but hopefully will improve.

Yes it is possible to have a whole Poundster solo!

By OliwaVasicek |

Fantastic lunch al fresco following a long (boozy…) visit to Widow Jane distillery. It was a very hot and humid summer day which frankly made the experience even better, especially as I worked my way through a whole Poundster! Special mention for the awesome staff who spotted that I had drunkenly forgotten my $300 Widow Jane bourbon purchase under the table and held onto it until I made my way back…

Lobster Heaven!

Their Classic "Maine Lobster Roll" is the BEST!! Every time I crave for some lobster....that's where I could be found .....!! (Their chowders are also excellent)

Great Wednesday all day deal on lobster dinners! Great oyster offer too!

By JeanneMartinson |

Thanks Crystal! What a great server. This restaurant launched in 2009 has a couple other locations but the Red Hook on Van Brunt is the original. Wednesday's deal is all day lobster dinner - which includes a 1.0-1.5 pound whole lobster with corn, potatoes and slaw - all for $25. It came out hot with melted butter and the ubiquitous bib (okay I used it - what can I say - I can't direct that lobster craw to squirt in the desired direction!). My husband ordered the Connecticut role which was a warm lobster roll dripping in butter and lemon. He followed it up with the $1 oyster special (oysters $1 each after 3 pm) and washed it down with delicious local Six Point Global Warmer Ale. What a fabulous crew and an original experience. (Served a decent wine and beer menu as well.)

Excellent Food, drink, service and music!

By Boosh12345 |

We visited for a very late lunch and the restaurant was quite quite, we were welcomed and decided to sit at the bar. The menu is excellent with a wide range of food and drink. We decided to start with oysters were 1 dollar each! They were very fresh and the dressings that came with them were really nice and did not overpower the oyster flavour. Our main courses were lobster roll with fries. Again the lobster was very fresh and the sauce and salad was excellent. We had local beer and the total cost was reasonable. The staff were helpful and very friendly and were helpful explaining any questions we had regarding the menu. Just one piece of advice - I was extremely disappointed with the Yellow Cabs on Manhattan who were reticent taking us to Brooklyn, one refused the other wanted to charge an excessive amount! We took a Yellow Cab on the way there but used UBER for the return trip. They were great. Therefore my tip would be to use UBER both waist ensure you can enjoy your time at the Lobster Pound because it is definitely worth the trip! Our only regret was not having the the full fresh lobster - perhaps the next time!

Best lobster roll in NYC

By christian m |

About a year ago they renovated this place turning it from a wholesale lobster spot to a restaurant - first - that also sells bulk lobster. So here is the important part - the lobster. Three times a week they drive up to Maine and buy fresh - non farm - Lobster and drive it back to Brooklyn in 500 gallons of Maine sea water. Many of the lobsters hail from Monhegan fishermen. That is right, live fresh Maine lobster. There is nothing better. Red Hook Lobster Pound now has a restaurant. Whole lobsters, lobster rolls, lobster mac and cheese, great French fries, corn on the cob, lots of draft beers and a super friendly wait staff. It is expensive (as most lobster is) and the restaurant has a casual, funky vibe. There is a big projection TV for movies and a nice bar. It ain't fine dining but it is the best, freshest lobster in New York. These guys also have all the food trucks and have stalls at smorgaberg and the big food stall place on 45th across from Grand Central. Quality food.

Very few places to eat except this block in Red Hook, known for their lobster rolls but you gotta try their burgers 🍔 also unbelievable, I plan on going back at least twice a month just because of the service and food

Red Hook Lobster Pound is a great spot.

By Simon C |

We were on a one day excursion in New York and walking back to embark on the Queen Mary 2 when we popped in. Great lobster rolls, delicious cocktails but above all the wharf-like ambience and the friendliness of the owner and wait staff. Definitely recommend it if you love lobster and a good vibe.

Amazing food and service!

By E8079QWhannahm |

We went here as a family looking for something a bit different off the beaten track and were not dispointed! Our waitress (Crystal maybe but didn't catch her name fully?) was so friendly and helpful and was patient with us about the first time trying oysters for some of the group...! The food was great- the lobster rolls were great and the oysters were amazing. It came quickly and overall was delicious! The music was also brilliant so I would 100% go back. Thanks Red Hook Lobster Pound!

For great lobster rolls, take the IKEA ferry to Red Hook.

By Wendell D |

My wife and I discovered Red Hook Lobster Pound years ago while strolling along Van Brunt Avenue and come back every summer to see how the neighborhood is changing. The Lobster Pound has spruced up and expanded. Added a bar and music. It's still casual and serving first rate lobster rolls. The free ferry from Wall Street offers beautiful views of the harbor, NY and Brooklyn skylines and drops you off at IKEA, about a 10 minute walk from some terrific food.

Not up to their usual standards

By rwadelman |

I’ve been to RHLP several times and is usually excellent. This visit, one claw was severed from the body and most of the legs were missing. The potatoes were dumped in the dirty lobster water. I was really surprised at the lack of care.

Needs a higher rating than Excellent!!!

We were in NYC to celebrate our grandson's 8th birthday and gave him the choice of doing whatever he wanted for our 5-day stay. 1st on his list: lobster. We are from Maine, so this was hard. First search yielded Red Hook. Why not? It was ASTOUNDINGLY GREAT! Could not be outdone, even in Maine where we get free, off-the-boat lobster! 1.5 lb lobsters, fresh and HARD shell Even in Maine at this time of year, it is hard to come by a hard shell and they are the most packed and sweetest. The tank where they are held was refreshingly clean and the lobsters frisky, like they should be if they are fresh. The server was great. Our grandson picked and ate all of his lobster, except for one claw. Needless to say, we cleaned up the rest! Lobster all around, complete with potatoes and corn, though none of us were very interested in the accessories, even though they were very good. It just happened to be Wednesday when they have their special: 1.5 lobster dinner for $25 - a rare bargain, especially in NYC, even in Maine for that matter! Accompanying our pleasant experience was a wall-size TV with the World Cup on. I wish we could go back for their Happy Hour: $1 oysters and $5 drafts! Our grandson LOVED this place, as did we. Casual, laid back and accommodating. An unusual find in NYC! GO THERE! We are going back next time in NY...for sure! So many other great menu choices to try!

Lobster Heaven!

By CarolynNYC |

My dad and I had taken the NYC Ferry to Red Hook, Brooklyn, and this place was a few blocks away. They have lobster trucks all over and he loves their lobster roll, so that's what he got. I had the lobster salad (buttery lettuce, radishes, scallions, citrus vinaigrette). His side dishes were great (cole slaw and potato salad). I ended up just having a few bites of the salad, ordering a dish of potato salad ($3, huge), and enjoying a delicious glass of Chardonnay ($9). Fun place, lobster shack decor, menu of enticing goodies (Chowduh!). The lobster was luscious and sweet and my dad will enjoy the rest of my salad for leftovers. Not cheap eats, really,, but really good quality, carefully prepared, & friendly service.

Absolutely fabulous

Stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday evening. Had eaten here once before on a weekend night during summer when it was mobbed. Food is excellent Brussel sprouts are delish. Lobster rolls are the bomb but the seafood boil with lobster was even better! My friend had crab stuffed lobster which she said was scrumptious. The service is great & loved that there weren’t many other patrons making it a relaxing wonderful meal.

Best Lobster Rolls Ever

Started off with macaroni & lobster appetizer. Had lobster fries with our lobster rolls. Best lobster rolls I have ever had.

Great funky seafood restaurant!

By Dolores P |

Enjoyed a delicious lunch at this delightful Redhook establishment. My lobster roll was fresh from the tank and as good as having it at a seaside Maine lobster place. Menu offers burger, chicken, and sausage to the non seafood lover in your party. Large selection of all kinds of seafood. Staff is very friendly with excellent service. Decor is funky rustic like a seasick - lots of fun. Prices are reflective of current fresh seafood. But you get what you pay for.
