Located right next to the Kimpton Monaco Hotel, it was the perfect place for an easy dinner after just landing from London. The Chilli Prawn Pasta cooked al dente with just the right amount of chilli. The broccoli was also terrific. Supported by a lovely glass of white wine and finished off with a generous scoop of ice cream; it all added up to a perfect start to our visit for a family wedding. In fact, we enjoyed the service and food so much, we went back for our last night and weren't disappointed: Hamburger, great fries (crunchy not soppy) and of course more broccoli!

We had a nice experience on our first visit to the Red Owl Tavern. It’s located next to or inside the Hotel Monacco in the lively historic district of center city and was very busy on a Friday night. We liked the modern rustic casual atmosphere of the restaurant, bar, and really enjoyed our dinner. We started with the wings which we shared and were delightful. For our main meals, I had the roasted half chicken and my husband had the seared salmon, both were good. The service was wonderful which made for a very pleasant evening. We would return.

This restaurant is attached to the Kimpton where we were staying. We tried for dinner upon our arrival but it was sold out. We made reservations for the following night (recommendation) and my family and I all enjoyed our dinner. Our waitress was friendly and attentive to my sons allergies. The portions were plentiful and the drinks were good. There was a variety of options to fit all our tastes. We started with the tater tots which weren’t what we expected but were very good. I went with the scallops which were delicious. My daughter got the lobster Mac and cheese which she was unable to finish but enjoyed. My son had a basic burger and fries and finished every last bite. Prices were a little high compared to other restaurants nearby but we probably enjoyed our meal here more so than the other places we ate.

The restaurant was highly recommended, wow what an experience. Cocktails are to die for, and the service is impeccable. Karla the restaurant manager took care of us, she even let us try their secret drink menu, which has super cool cocktails all inspired by countries around the world, ask for it at the restaurant and try the Japan and the Mexico cocktail. The food was delicious, the short rib melted off the bone. Check it out, well worth it Philly

My family and I had lunch here after doing the tourist Sean around historic Philadelphia. The lunch was standard fare and the location was great. The food was not memorable, but was convenient and air conditioned.

Needed a late night meal because of travel and stopped here. Had the spaghetti squash carbonara. The meal was tasty enough and the service good. I found a few too many hard chewy bits of the pork rind for my liking but overall fine. Reasonable beer selection. Good service.

Loved the food and drink. The pot roast, the pork chop and the Brussel spouts were a standout. The service was friendly and efficient. Location was very central. Great pub/restaurant atmosphere.

Food was absolutely delicious hand down best service ever, I got a tavern burger which was amazing fries were soft with a little crunch just how I like them

I dined at this establishment when I was visiting for work. The service was terribly slow. We went for lunch, ordered a sandwich at about noon and did not get our food until 1:15. We had to rush out to make it back to work. And the food was overpriced and not very good (cold and the bread tasted stale). But even worse, the resturant charged my credit card twice for the purchase. Once this charge hit my account (and did not fall off after pending) I called and requested they refund me the money that was overcharged. The manager was very rude, somehow saying it was my fault that it was charged twice because I should have noticed sooner and did not reverse the charge. I then called again and they said they would reverse the charge and never did. I called again and left a message and never heard back. I am out of state, so I was unable to go in personally, but I was never refunded my money. That is not how I would treat customers. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are plenty of great places to eat in the area, where the food tastes good and they will not steal your money.

A lovely experiance, This restaurants served one of the best breakfasts we had on this holiday. It was hot and cooked beautifully. Sadly due to our packed days we were unable to go back again much to our disappointment. If you want an American breakfast this is the place to go, they cater for all vegan, gluten free, etc.

I am a certified food snob and love this place. Anytime i am in town i plan on at least one dinner here. Try the "Last Word" if you are a gin lover.

We stayed at this hotel for our son's wedding. The next morning we had a delicious breakfast with a friendly server named Erin. We used our breakfast vouchers for full egg breakfast with bacon, home fries and toast. The coffee is excellent. The Red Owl has a very cool vibe to it. We loved meeting here with our guests for drinks too!

We stayed at the Kimpton Monaco and enjoyed this on-property restaurant several times during our stay both at the restaurant and for in-room dining. They do accept reservations which is convenient because the space isn't large. I would highly recommend reservations on nights and weekends. The weekend brunch was my favorite. The chicken and waffles were to die for! Yum...so good.

Had a great meal and beers. Service was great. Would definitly recommend this place and would return when revisiting philly!

Pretentious. Inattentive. Basic. The vibe was so bad that I almost changed my mind and left, but once my server came, I felt trapped, so I regrettably stayed. It's important to know that I'm generally a 25-33 percent tipper depending upon experience. When I tip 15 percent, that's my bottom of the barrel for even the worst service. Here, I tipped 15 percent. I was sat inside, between two couples who were strangers to me. I get it, but the place was PACKED, and I'm less than a foot from strangers on either side, so it was a little problematic for me. It was so loud. There was a table of drunk guys close to me, and one of them thought he was the funniest and most interesting people in the room. He yelled and sang at the top of his lungs constantly. I wasn't the only one who noticed, yet no one did anything about it. Unfortunately, it was brunch only Sunday, so I got the rancheros huevos. It did have a little kick with pepper added in, but could have probably been seasoned a little better. My drinks were ok. I could have the best food in the world, and the experience overall was so terrible that it wouldn't have mattered. I was dressed in casual pants and a tee shirt, so I get that I wasn't giving off rich folk vibe, but I feel like the people here met me know it. I feel like the server expected a cruddy tip, so he gave the most basic service possible. I have money, but I don't need to let people know it constantly. You know how you hear about people like Bill Gates wearing plain old clothes? Maybe you guys should learn from that next time. You can read my reviews. I very rarely give a rating below four stars for any place because I get that the service industry is difficult. But this was just that unenjoyable for me. I was searching for restaurants near me while at the table. I'm going to try the nearby Cuban eatery next time.

Food OK and service OK but a little slow. I ordered a steak with a side at the bar counter. People who came after me got their food first. I got a discount coupon from the visitor center which made it more worthwhile.

We had only breakfast at the Tavern and it was very good both mornings and the service was friendly and attentive. Fresh ingredients and properly cooked. Only negative was the lack of choice of fresh bagels at 9 am!!

Sat at the bar, Ryan was our bartender/server. Excellent service and great personality. Enjoyed the cocktails w/very good food selections.

Loved the breakfast (Frittata) make sure to ask what is the combination for the day. The bar had the best fries with a margarita was very good to me after a long day.

The Red Owl in the Kimpton Monaco was exceptional every day of our 4-day stay for breakfast and for a few lunches. Abby and Brie at the front of the house shined in their service, assistance and friendliness maintaining professionalism throughout our stay. Brie walked us to the elevator to take my mother to the second floor, when she could have simply pointed! She went up the elevator as well! Abby remembered my name and was a friendly face at the front throughout our stay. She made superior oat milk lattes! Matthew and Samir waited on us more than once, and said hello when they saw us again even when they didn't have our table. Their service was nothing short of perfection. The food was consistently delicious.

The Red Owl is located in the Hotel Monaco. We stopped in after we checked into the hotel for a quick lunch. While the menu is rather limited, we did enjoy a Philly tradition – the cheesesteak. It was pretty good. We stopped in later that evening for drinks as well. The bar staff was great – very nice and attentive. In the morning we wanted a quick to-go muffin and coffee but had to do without. There was only one person working and he was covering tables and the counter for hotel guests as well as customers from off the street. He was doing the best he could given that he was flying solo, but we didn’t want to add to his burden of long lines and frustrated customers. Not the server’s fault, but a disappointing customer experience that management should work on fixing.

Enjoyed great chicken wings, a ceasar and a shrimp salad. Service a bit slow but they were very busy.

Amazing service and food. Great selection of wines. Outdoors seating is nice, but it’s a busy corner so if you want an intimate dinner, I would sit inside.

Our waiter was great! Made good suggestions and his service was prompt; the dining room was not busy. We split the salad which was delicious. Chicken was good but the gravy overpowered the the meat and sides. Pork chop was good as were the sides. Only complaint is the lighting was so dim we struggled to read the menu and the bill. Would go again, but would ask for a table with better lighting.

Visited at noon on Saturday with a group of nine and we were treated with great service and delicious food. Most had the Crabby Arnold and loved it; I opted for the Shrimp Cobb and it was delightful. Good coffee, great atmosphere and prompt service. I’d visit again and would recommend!

The food here is creative. I had crabcake benedict which I really enjoyed. My wife and I were very happy with our meals and the good service.

Loved their food and they were very accomodating to our needs. They have a delightful Caesar salad that I enjoyed repeatedly.

Overpriced. Not the best service. It is a great location. Communication was not good at all - we visited from out of town and did not realize we had to purchase food. We ordered and received our drink and then were told we needed to leave since we did not want to order food. Paid way too much for beer and could only have one. Oh well. Lastly - don't get coffee here in the morning. Walk the extra block to the next place you'll get more for your money.

We ate here for lunch. The menu was good, but the prices were quite high. I expect it was partly from being in a big city along with the restaurants prime location near Independence Mall. Portions could have been a bit larger, but the quality was good. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant, but it was exceptionally noisy. I think if they turned the music down a bit it would really help make it easier to have a conversation with the people at your table.

Had a lovely lobster for a great price on Monday! Good service and in the middle of historic town. Good choice!

Very expensive. Small portion of everything. Even a salad that fit on a desert plate cost $7. Also charge a "surcharge" for the kitchen staff. Ridiculous! My son is an Exec Chef in Boston and they don't even do that. The place is small, loud and crappy. DON'T GO!!!!

Great location near historic district. Menu was interesting, lots of choices for everyone. Food and service were both great and we will return next time we are in Philly. . Highly recommend!

Went for dinner as a group of four on a Saturday. Location is a short walk from Independence Hall. For starters we had the Burrata Toast and Tater Tots. They both were far from the ho-hum one often gets. Two apps were sufficient for the table and prepared with creative panache. We had four different mains. I had the Short Rib Cavatelli. Others had the Duck Breast, Salmon and Bass. All were nicely presented and very good. But the desserts were magic! All house made and unique in style and presentation. I had the Cinnamon Apple Pie. Others had the Panna Cotta and the Chocolate Chip Cookie. Like the apps, all exceeded expectations. Kudos to the exec chef and kitchen for a great dining experience. Two minor downsides: As the name implies, its a tavern, and being a Saturday night was a bit crowdy and noisy, but there is an upper level area which may have a different ambience. A side dish arrived very late, but server returned it to the kitchen and the manager came by and apologized. All in all, a great experience.

After visiting MOI our family stopped into the Red Owl Tavern for a bite. We were immediately seated and our orders were taken. I tried their Cheesesteak and my wife had the Belgian Waffle. Our food was very good and Janaye was a great server.

This place was overpriced , but that is not the worst. The three cooks you can clearly see cooking your food all have beards, wear no gloves and we watched them continuously touch there face. If my son wasn’t adamant about me not saying anything so would have! Never again! Need gloves and hair nets!!! ( for the bearded ones too!!!

The place is wonderful. Ideal place for family and friends. Staffs are knowledgeable and quick. Food is the best. Price is above average but with quality. There are lots of options to choice from. This is recommended when you’re in Philly!

Ate here on my last day in Philly as I wanted to get a Taylor ham sandwich before leaving. The sandwich was solid. They put a whole hash brown patty on the sandwich which I ate on the side instead. Service a little slow and the prices are outrageous. Seems like they get most of the business from nearby hotels.

We stopped by for breakfast prior to setting off for a day of site-seeing. Wow…were we disappointed! The food was not very good and it was quite overpriced. The service was not much better. You can certainly do better in Philadelphia as there are many other reasonable restaurants to try.

We stayed at the hotel which was okay, the restaurants food was badly seasoned and over priced. We had two meals there, a lunch and a breakfast. Both were subpar. Go to get a good sandwich instead. Don't waist your money here!

Stopped after sightseeing, bartender was awesome, friendly and attentive without being to pushy. Limited bar menu, ordered the charcuterie board $18 it was a small portion for the money. The board and 2 drinks with tip ran us $65. It was pretty pricey but what the hell, we’re only in Philadelphia for the night.

The Red Owl Tavern was our go to while staying at the Kimpton. A great bar, nice atmosphere, always lively and good food for any meal. I enjoyed breakfast, lunch and late night there.

Reviewed this restaurant a few years ago, came back on a couples weekend. Service remains one of the worst in Philly. Grossly overpriced considering service and food quality. A true shame as Hotel Monaco is otherwise Great.

Food was good and service was great. Ask for Diarra as a server. She is the Goddess of Reccommending desserts. You can't Go wrong

We ate here three times during our 1-week visit to Philadelphia, twice for breakfast and once for dinner. Breakfast was pretty standard and prepared to everyone's liking. Dinner consisted of hamburgers and fries which was also pretty basic and done to our specifications. Evening drinks were good. Service was prompt and pleasant. This restaurant didn't wow us but it was in a convenient location and provided good basic meals.

This was a return trip to Red Owl Tavern. We enjoyed our visit the first time and definitely worth a return trip. I have specific dietery needs due to a health issue, I asked the waitress,Keiara, about how the fish was prepared. She was very attentive and got an answer for me right away. The next thing I knew, the chef Jules Odum, came upstairs to ask me personally how I would like the fish prepared and he would be happy to accommodate! This was a first for me, having a chef come to me personally to make sure I would be happy with the finished product. I can't say enough about the service and attention to detail by the server, the Sous Chef and the manager who also stopped at our table to check on our service. If you go here, try the crab and corn fritters. We had the scallops and the short ribs. Both dishes were excellent! Thank you for a lovely experience, we appreciated the attention and service we were given as well as the meal.

Location is great. So much history surrounding the area. I was solo and ate at the bar for lunch. Christopher was behind the bar and he was fabulous. Such a nice guy. This place was recommended by a friend and it didn’t disappoint. I had the cheesesteak sandwich and it was truly the best I ever had. Paired with a seasonal cider I couldn’t go wrong. I will definitely be back when visiting Philly. Thanks Christopher for great service and conversation!

Stopped for lunch and was very pleased. The El Jimador Margarita was delicious. The chicken club was warm and tasty. The Red Owl Burger was cooked medium to perfection. A little disappointed with the fries ( almost all were short and a bit soggy). The server Samir was very good and the Manager was attentive to our table and the tables around. Seating was cozy but comfortable. Easy to have conversation even though it was nearly full.

Had to send back an overcooked burger; stuffed trout was ok but only mediocre. Waitstaff was excellent; food prep on the slow side.

We ate several meals here and the dishes are consistently well made- all were delicious, with friendly service. At breakfast we especially liked the pancakes with banana, the avocado toast and the oatmeal. For dinner the Caesar salad was a regular choice as the dressing is so good and the steaks were well cooked.

Pro: Staff was great, pleasant ambience, great drink selection, convenient location. That said, 80% of what we ordered was just OK. Burgers were meh & didn't come with lettuce or tomatoes, pasta & fries were also just OK. Soup was the sole standout. Plus they didn't have Tabasco...

First the service was top notch. Sam was welcoming, thoughtful, and fun. The Apple Cider Waffle was amazing! Along with Pork Roll Benny; the Benedict had the best hollandaise sauce!

Out of town we’d stopping to have a few drinks and I have to say Chef Adam was amazing. Went out of his way to help us and give us good advice. Pedro there was good with giving ideas where to go next! Great atmosphere!

This was a wonderful experience. They got us in quickly. I have several food allergies, and our server was extra cautious and thoughtful. We had the Philly Cheesesteak and it was the best ever. Excellent food. Excellent service.

We were greeted by a rude host who said they would be closing at three. It was 2;15. When seated we were greeted by Ligan, our server. A very pleasant and professional young man. The food I ordered, rice pudding never came out so he cancelled the order. The food runner comes out another ten minutes later with the food and I explained we had cancelled it due to the 3;00 closure. He rudely turned around and threw it on another table whilst giving us a very dirty look. But Logan still had us leave with a smile.

Convenient location near Independence Hall with great service. We enjoyed the short stack pancakes and the breakfast jawn. Place was busy but we weren’t rushed to leave. Everything was great.

One minute until the kitchen closed for breakfast, and the hostess and server (Shannon) went out of their way to serve us! Not only were they accommodating, the food was absolutely yummy! Thanks for keeping us full!

This morning my guests and I enjoyed breakfast at the Red Owl Tavern. The food was fabulous. I loved the Egg White Omelet, other loved the Frittata, the Eggs Benedict, the Continental breakfast, and the oatmeal. The service was great and very accommodating. I will definitely come back!

Loved this place! Great food, nice ambience, and friendly service. The kids menu was not shown on their website, so that was a very happy surprise— the kids even got crayons! Also appreciated that they had multiple vegetarian options. We got lucky with a no wait walk in for brunch but I would definitely recommend reservations. Would love to go back!

Not as expected given location inside IHG Kimpton Hotel Monaco. Arrived expecting a pleasant experience and a satisfying meal. The tables are spaced very tight and in retrospect we would have been happier at the bar where you choose to interact with others vs.hearing conversations at tables only 18” away. The menu choices were limited for anyone not into tuna or esoteric vegetarian options. We probably should have changed plans when we had to keep studying the menu. I was about to order steak or chicken since I did not want a burger, but decided I did not want that heavy a meal. Went with basic wedge salad and tried their pierogis with brisket. Those were a hit. My husband loves spicy foods and decided to try a spicy crab noodle pasta. Very ordinary - suspect crab was out of a can and very ordinary flavor and dish. We tried to save the meal with a dessert, but the dessert menu had more beverages than actual desserts. Staff needs to learn to pace the dishes coming out of the kitchen. Despite our saying we were in no hurry and wanted to relax, we barely started our first course before the entrees arrived. Waitress had a lovely personality but could use more experience in steering her customers to the best choices on the menu. Blaming ourselves for not asking what she would recommend.

Overall, a good restaurant. The service was good. There was a waiter who took the order incorrectly, but they fixed it and apologized. Clean and organized, with good portion. The breakfast chicken sausage was one of the best I've ever had, I liked it a lot to ask for the name of manufacturer and brand. This restaurant partners with Kimpton Hotel right in the same building. If you are staying in this hotel, you can charge the food bill to the room. If you are looking for something to eat near Independent Hall/Mall area, you won't go wrong with this place. Can't comment on lunch and dinner though.

We arrived during the brief closure between breakfast and lunch service. The staff was welcoming and seated us and served us coffee (and some conversation) while we waited (very few minutes--maybe ten or so). The food at lunch was quite good and the servers (Samir and Allison) were quite attentive to my spouse required gluten-free diet. The best part was the great service and helpful guidance regarding places to visit in Philadelphia provided by Allison. Her cheerful attitude made our experience quite memorable. The food (Quality and Variety) is excellent as well.

We had brunch at Red Owl Tavern and it was delicious! We grabbed the Belgian waffles, Avocado toast, Eggs Benedict, and Banana toast. The waffles were my absolute favorite! Not only did the food taste great, but the presentation was just as beautiful. The staff was super welcoming and friendly - which is something important to me when looking at a restaurant to dine at. Definitely stop by here if you're staying at the Kimpton! But if you're not staying at the hotel - here's your sign to visit here as well!

Ate here for dinner. The food is farm to table fresh. I had the grilled chicken salad(so good), my husband had the salmon, and my son had a hamburger. Service was topnotch.

We had the Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. All were excellent. Price is high but very cool atmosphere

We stopped in for lunch as it was close to the attractions. Wish we had looked elsewhere. Food was not all the great and overpriced. $5 for a soda that I had to request a refill on.

We usually go here for brunch or sit outside, but at our last visit, we sat inside for dinner. My seat faced the window behind the bar, and as the sun set, it was shining very brightly through the window. My eyes are super sun sensitive, so I asked the server if they could lower the blinds until the sun was gone, but I was told the blinds were as low as they go. Red Owl Tavern, get blinds that can down lower to block that blinding sun! Oh, the roasted salmon was fabulous.

We had lunch at the hotel restaurant, Red Owl Tavern. It was a sunny day, so I asked to be seated outside. The hostess responded that there were no tables available even though they were clearly plenty of tables and I pointed specifically to an empty bistro table right in front of us. She then responded that she could not seat us at that table because the waitress manning the patio already had too many patrons to serve. So she sat us inside at the window overlooking the patio. However, we quickly realized that the lone waitress who was serving the patio diners was our same waitress. During our dining, the hostess proceeded to seat other couples (one after the other) at the bistro table in front of us. The only saving grace was that the lone waitress, who was definitely overworked, still managed to give outstanding service and we tipped her accordingly despite the questions we had about the seating situation.

Had breakfast there and was excellent - very friendly wait staff and very good coffee! Enjoyed the atmosphere and will visit again for happy hour!

Very disappointing experience. I think a server is obligated to point out to any customer who orders something that is spicy that it is -- in fact -- spicy and did the customer know that? I ordered a chicken sandwich that proved to be quite spicy -- and I had no idea from anything indicated on the menu. I wasn't able to eat very much of it -- and it wasn't that tasty in any case!

This restaurant is well located just across from Signer's Garden and one block from Independence Hall. The chicken sandwich was very good. The inside is quit ornate though we ate outside on the sidewalk which was pleasant. Not lot's of vegetarian choices.

Impromptu lunch with our family of three after spending the morning exploring the Independence National Historic Park. We were warmly greeted and seated quickly. We sat on the main floor. It was a little tight but the atmosphere was good. Waitress came by and took our drink orders and answered our questions. We weren’t in any hurry, but the food did take quite awhile to come out. Someone came by to apologize and the food came out shorty after that. The fried pierogis were delicious. The pasta with grilled chicken from the kids menu was also quite good. The hamburger was very average and I did not finish it. The fries were cooked well but under seasoned. Overall a good experience and we would go back to try again.

This was a great location and bar. Great drinks and staff. Was crowded. Close to walk to the whole historical area. We did not eat but food looked great.

Me and my friend went here for brunch & dinner. We sat downstairs for dinner but upstairs for brunch which was great. It's a little tighter downstairs. We really enjoyed the brunch. I had chicken & waffles. The food was tasty and we sat near the window which was nice. When we went for lunch, I had the Boujee Ben Burger which was really good. I'd definitely come back to get that again. The restaurant is in a great location right on the corner and is located inside the Hotel Monaco which is really convenient when staying there.

Dining- Reservations are necessary Bar -walk ins ok but a small bar Small tavern with views of the kitchen Food is fabulous, service awesome cocktails, craft beers, wine are excellent We enjoyed grilled octopus, fingerling potatoes with feta an italian pinot gris Fried eggplant, fresh tomatoes with a spicy harissa sauce local craft pale ale

We were looking for a place for breakfast in Philly that was cheaper than our hotel restaurant. We picked the Red Owl which was quite a walk from where we were staying, and upon arrival, found out it's a hotel restaurant for a different hotel. We decided to stay and being sunday morning, discovered all they serve is a brunch menu. I'm not able to eat eggs, so I elected to have the philly steak. I had several philly steaks at other restaurants during our stay, however i have to say, i believe this is the best one i have ever had. At $20, it was not a cheap one by any means, but it definitely didn't disappoint. The rest of our party was happy with their meals as well. Overall, it was a great place for breakfast, albeit on the expensive side.

Great Location!! Great Lunch! LOVED the Philly Cheesesteak!! In my book, the Best I have had yet!!! Nice Atmosphere! I highly recommend!!

Very friendly bar staff. Good beer selection. Great location. Ayinger octoberfest on tap! Was our go to place for drinks.

Walked in between lunch and dinner so the menu has only a small handful of items. It was basically a burger, salmon burger or salad. The burger was fine. Nothing special but not bad. Also had the cheese plate which was good. Again nothing special but fine. Given the reviews I guess I expected more but it was ok. If we were there for the full menu I think it might have been better.

Greeter was standoffish, sigh...we have no room for you unless you wanna eat outside. Um sure thanks we will....Food was ok, very average. Small menu and somethings on that small menu were not offered anymore. Loud and hard to flag down a waitress. Started to rain and were given a table inside-Definitely packed on the day we went, so if super crowded, loud places are not your thing, avoid.

We had a light breakfast in preparation for a larger meal around noon. Everyone received what they ordered, looking good, at the right temperature, and tasting good. Seems to me we shsould give it a beter test next time, for lunch or dinner. I bet both are good.

We had an incredible dining experience at Red Owl Tavern! For breakfast we had the Buttermilk Pancakes with dark chocolate, awsome; for dinner we had the Murray’s 1/2 Chicken (sorry I forgot to take a photo) was perfectly cooked juicy, flavorful, and, seasoned, we also had a side of their creamy mac and cheese, it made for the ultimate comfort meal. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was top-notch from start to finish. Highly recommend if you're looking for elevated tavern fare done right. Thanks to the staff aswome job: Rich, Kayle, Rena, Sasha, and Cassie

Good food and friendly staff. The lunch menu was small but had a nice variety of choices. Our order was taken but never placed and without us even complaining the staff realized the mistake, promptly placed the order, and then discounted our bill. Very impressed with how they handled the oversight. I will add though, that no one ever came back to take our credit card and we were delayed almost 15 more minutes just waiting to pay our check. This place would be that much better with a bit more focus!

We stopped in for a drink before a ghost tour. Unfortunately, didn't have time for food, but the atmosphere was pretty cool.

Was staying at the hotel and decided to order room service. The crab eggs benedict. Absolutely delicious! Probably one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. The meal was pricey but worth it.

So I’m on business. I’m in Philly across from the Liberty Bell. I see a lot of people at lunch time going in to the Red Owl. Not wanting to go far, I think I’ll give it a shot. I’m not consuming adult beverages, I’m there for lunch. Good crowd. I see an incredible looking burger going by and I think I know what I’m getting. So, burger, fries and coke is the order. I wait and wait and wait, then here it comes. It looks good. It was good. Very good. But pricey. Very pricey. I didn’t check it out. My fault. But I am thinking to myself when I order. It’s a burger, fries and a coke. I did it. It’s done. But wow, I could have gone elsewhere and got a lot more bang for my buck. I could have had a good dinner for what I paid for lunch. I guess you pay for the bar scene. Wow. I’ll know better next time.

We were at the museums in Philly and wanted to eat somewhere close and decided to try the Red Owl Tavern. It was a good choice. The food was good and the service we got from Danny was great. We started out with perogies not your grandmas but were very tasty. I got the grilled chicken club with the truffle fries. They were yummy. Another person in our group got the Tavern Burger and he said it was one of the best. For dessert we had the German chocolate cake. It was moist and very rich and had 2 peaks of whipped cream, yummy.

We traveled from NJ just to have their spicy crab and artichoke dip, again. The staff and management is incredibly friendly and we have had such a great experience every time we visit!

Lunch while walking around the city with some visiting family. Service was good food was just okay. We ordered the Tavern BLTB which was good but they grilled the bread and burnt it really bad on both sandwiches making it impossible to eat the bread. Tavern Panzanella was very good and so was the Crab & Corn Fritters.

Perfect spot for an authentic Philly Cheese steak with fries. Close to everything in the historic district. Great Bar tenders. Seems like a lot of locals are here. That's a good sign.

Great breakfast spot! My husband and I were staying at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco and we booked our room with breakfast for two. So this was the place for our breakfast and it wasn’t bad. The waitstaffs were all friendly and attentive but the hostess lacks that. She didn’t look like she wanted to be there and the energy she was giving off shows it. Anyway, our food was great, our lovely waitress was awesome! Overall, we will try to spot for lunch and see what else they have to offer.

Expensive but delicious! We stayed at the adjoining Monaco Hotel and had breakfast twice in the Red Owl Tavern. Breakfast on both occasions was excellent. However, in particular, the blueberry pancakes are to die for and it seems to be the specialty of the female cook (I think Nicole) who works there in the morning. It comes stuffed with blueberries and a side of mascarpone cheese. Smother that in butter and syrup and you have a taste sensation like none other. It was incredible. Breakfast can be expensive. For two people with tip, easily $60-$70. Entrees run about $20 and a cup of coffee (small) is $5 but with lots of refills if you wish. The staff there is very, very friendly. A shout-out to Samir and Janaye who were both exceptional. And the chef (Nicole?) who made those unbelievable pancakes? Thank you for those few moments of heaven while we ate our breakfast.

Early evening, went out for dinner with a few friends. The food was tasty and the atmosphere was fine. The portions, however, were quite small. The lasagna, for example, was about a third of what the size should have been for the price.

Enjoyed brunch / more lunch oriented with family. Good food and good service. Nothing outstanding. Solid pub atmosphere.

Had dinner and two breakfasts here, all was great. Service was excellent, food amazing, staff very friendly and accommodating.

Ate in hotel after long day. Had reservation and place not crowded yet tried to sit us at a small table in middle of noisy walkway when nice booths available. Moved us on request but annoying. The service was a bit rushed. We hated a Caesar Salad which was average. My husband had short ribs which he enjoyed and I had strip steak the steak was cooked well and flavorful but had too much salt. Twice baked potato was a bit sloppy but also tasty. Probably would not return given all the amazing restaurants in Philadelphia.

Stopped in for lunch and ate st the bar. Menu was brunch/lunch with a decent mix of tried and true and unknown. All fine, nothing special.

We stumbled upon the Red Owl Tavern while walking through historic Philadelphia. We were able to get a table without reservations, but it was a holiday and the city was not super busy. We ordered the fried pierogies for an appetizer. They were very good, but a little oily for my tastes. My husband and I both ordered the Cod Po Boy, which was very good. It was big enough that I think the two of us could have split one! The service was very good. My husband had a beer that he hadn't ever tried before, so it seemed they had a lot of interesting choices.

After a long day being a tourist and walking back to our hotel, we went in to the Red Owl Tavern for an early dinner. Even though they were just changing over to the dinner menu, we were seated promptly and sipped on cocktails. Kelly, our server, was the best! All food items were excellent, but most notable was the bottomless order of mussels. We should have counted the number in the order just for fun. Thank you, Red Owl!

Had a a great experience both during happy hour and at brunch the following day. The service was great, friendly, and very convenient since we were staying at the Monaco overnight. Highly recommend!

Went there just to grab a quick lunch. It was crowded and we sat upstairs. Nothing special about the menu or the food. Interesting there were no soups on the menu. They offered a grilled cheese and tomato soup so I was able to order just the soup. I thought the menu was a little pricy for what it is.

If I were a chef, I would be embarrassed to serve the meal that we ate at this restaurant, what a disappointment! I’ve eaten better meals in a plane. We paid $170 for a meal for 3 and swore never to step there again.

We only had drinks, but the Penn's Treaty was the best drink in town so far. It was very close to an Old Fashioned and better than the actual Old Fashions we've ordered so far.

Stopped in for lunch. The burger was awesome, the vibe in restaurant was nice and friendly. Had a few of the Philadelphia locally made brews, which were great. Highly recommend

We enjoyed our breakfast at Red Owl Tavern every morning of our stay at the Hotel Monaco. Bree took great care of us while helping with reservations on Thursday and Friday mornings. Janay was our sever on Thursday and Friday and was very warm, friendly, attentive and helpful. She made our breakfasts so enjoyable! Kylie stopped by to chat on Thursday morning and was genuinely interested in our plan for our visit. Our server on Saturday morning (unsure how to spell her name, I believe she is Janay's sister) was also so kind and sweet to our four year old son. She checked in on us regularly and promptly responded to any requests we had. I also popped into the Red Owl for an afternoon snack on Friday. The bar was busy and I received immediate help with my to go order from the bar staff. I was offered a water while I waited and felt very taken care of. The Red Owl Tavern was such a great spot and it was so nice to have it right in the hotel, very convenient and delicious!

This was the restaurant in our hotel, and it was good. As with most Kimpton Monaco’s, it is funky. The menu is a modern a take on American pub food, with a flair for adding things to your food that maybe sound better than they taste. The feta dip was good, but the many veggies they added made it sweet and the four slices of bread with it we not nearly enough for all the dip they brought. The mussels special my wife had was good, but there was so little of the delicious sauce that she had to scrape the bottom continuously. The burger I had was good, but the sweet bacon jam was cold and overrode the other flavors. Excellent beer selection. The olive oil gateau lemon cake was amazing, it’s worth just stopping to get that. If we stayed there again, maybe we’d go again, but only if. Still, better than most and if you are exploring Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, it’d be good for lunch.

Great bar. Lovely atmosphere and a dose of American sports. Nice beer as well. Sadly we die receive a look as if we had 3 heads from the welcome team. Very odd. We just wanted to find a spot for a beer. Rest rooms are also a little far away (in the hotel next door, past the lifts, down the stairs, and along the corridor). But v swish they were !

Spent New Years Eve here for a second year in a row. Convenient when staying in the Kimpton Monaco. Cannot speak for the food since I've only had drinks, but the drinks that I have had were well executed and the bar staff friendly and professional. I believe that Dan was our bartender on NYE and kept the drinks coming. When my wife wanted a chocolate martini, he went out of his way to find her some chocolate. Once they started brewing some fresh espresso, I finished the night with some fine espresso martinis.

Great spot for a bite before a show. It has a nice vibe, good service, and while limited, a solid menu. Full bar and located in an upscale hotel. Finding a bathroom is tricky as you have to navigate the bowels of the hotel, but they are big and clean. Prices are reasonable for a center city restaurant. Definitely a go to spot for business or family.

Stopped by after visiting the Liberty Bell in Independence Hall. Was very lucky to have our group of 10 (5 aldults and 5 children) sqeezed in on a very busy Sundqy. I would for sure recommend making reservations for seating. Will for the next visit. All food was delicious and delivered in a very timely manner which is important with little kids and hungry adults. Garlic Sage Fries was a good surprise addition to the excellently prepared tavern burger. Children's menu provided choices for all. Chicken fingers and the pancakes were a hit today. Next trip to the city will include a visit to the Red Owl Tavern!

Nice tavern, close to the historic district, quick seating at 4 p.m. on July 2nd. We appreciated that it had several options for a vegetarian, but we were not impressed with the Philly Cheesesteak.

We just had a couple pastries and a couple coffees but they were real good and served with a smile. We ate at an internal table at a window but they do have plants of indoor and outdoor tables.

Rich and savory, but it will set you back. Everything very perfect and the staff is very kind. Use the freebie on the bottom of your hotel room breakfast service order. They do honor it.

Across from Independence Hall, this is a popular spot to go. Great menu and service. We mainly stuck with the appetizers but there were so many good things to try. A must visit in Philly.

Delicious brunch for our family after the Wedding! Service was great and everyone was so accommodating

Staying in the attached hotel, this was a logical place for a few drinks and meals. Nothing extraordinary yet nothing out of the ordinary. The bar was a little loud in the late afternoon (it's not a cozy hotel lounge type place). A few meals there were excellent with special shout out for the Lobster Mac and Cheese!

The overall experience was very nice. The server was attentive and helpful. The restaurant itself was unique. The reclaimed barn wood ceiling was a cool touch. The food was very good, but definitely over priced. I got the Bujee Burger, which had arugula, bacon, and their sauce. Again, very good, but not $25 good.

We only drank at the bar ( and didn't eat, though others in our extended family said the food was generally excellent). The bartenders were friendly and helpful and the drinks were good. And for trivia fans: it's called the Red Owl because George Washington had a pet red owl.

We were in Philly for the weekend and went to Red Owl Tavern for brunch each day and it was delicious! I loved the pumpkin pancakes and the Eggs benny!

We were there to eat and talk. Sat upstairs where it was a little quieter! The bar looks good with great TV’s. We had gone the night before and had the Philly Strip steak! It was great. Ordered the ribeye and it wasn’t good! Told the waitress and without any hesitation got us the Philly Strip and it was beyond perfect! Dan the manager was amazing! He checked in and asked what was wrong with the ribeye! Gave us free dessert and offered a free drink! I highly recommend the restaurant. Also the wedge salad was perfect.

Stayed at the Kimpton Monaco for a week for son's wedding. Wanted to love this place. LOVED Spencer--so nice and good drinks until we asked for a menu. He called last call for drinks at 9 p.m. and said the kitchen was closed. On a Tuesday! The paper we received when we checked in said open til 10:30. Closed on Wednesdays. We went to the Renaissance just down the block and got food and drinks! We did have a nice lunch at Red Owl the next day. Delicious truffle fries and good sandwiches. Nice waiter. No Spencer for drinks that night. Then things started going downhill. It's now Thursday and we're spending more time at the Renaissance because: Red Owl and that horrible Stratus are NOT affiliated with the hotel. Therefore, they make their own hours, decisions, etc. My DIL's phone died and they wanted to CHARGE HER $20 to charge her phone. Rogue employee trying to make extra cash. Then we hear these employees get paid more hourly, so they don't care about tips. Their attitude now makes sense. Friend was at another wedding at Stratus and wanted to stay for drinks after. They wanted them to PAY COVER. Lots of missteps. Love the hotel. Dislike the restaurant and bar. Communication between them and the hotel are non-existent.

We took some visitors from England to the historic area and were surprised that our usual lunch place, The Bourse, was closed for renovations. But the Red Owl Tavern was nearby so we went there and were not disappointed. They were busy, and there was a wait for tables inside, but a nice table outside in the shade was available. My wife and I each had a roast pork sandwich which was delicious and very large. One of our visitors and I each had a Bitburger beer which we enjoyed very much. We highly recommend the Red Owl and look forward to a return visit.

Sit inside or out while you can at this wonderful tavern in the Hotel Kimpton. A welcoming atmosphere with good solid food and service, you will want to gaze upon the historical area while seated or at the bar. Great place for an afternoon drink or brunch. Seriously, stop on by.

Dishes correct , but sometimes you should not be surprised by the particular flavors of certain mixtures Apart from that, the place is cozy and the Service fast and impeccable

Stayed at the attached Kimpton Hotel Monaco and dined at Red Owl Tavern. Cool ambiance, ate the Philly Steak Sub with crispy fries. Hit the mark! The Brussels sprouts are delicious. Perfect location to visit Liberty Bell and Ben Franklin’s home.

I wish I could remember all of the names, but then again I would mention every server, waiter, waitress and hostess we encountered. All are friendly. All are well-trained. The menu is decent for a place with an occupancy limit of 68. The pork chops the first night (we stayed 2 nights in the adjoining hotel) were juicy and had excellent flavor. My friend had them and said the same thing. The ladies liked their crab cakes too. The drinks menu is vast. The wine, not so much, but not bad. Breakfast the last morning was excellent. I ate at the bar and the bartender was attentive and helpful.

We were touring Philadelpha and stopped in here for a quick bite to eat before our tour began. We were pleased with the service and the food. Had the pierogies and cheesesteak. Both were very good.

Just across the road from independence hall and park opens at 7.30 am looks bigger from the outside good service good food

While not a bad place, the food along with their specialty cocktails was disappointing and did not live up to the expectations of other reviews.

Before leaving Philly we had dinner here. There is a bar area and in the mezzanine above a restaurant area. It's industrial grunge. It's OK but I found the lighting so bad I had to use the torch on my phone to read the small text in the menu. Now the food. I found it hard to find anything I liked on the menu and so in the end I went for a salad. When it finally arrived it was a small iceberg lettuce, while dribbled with blue cheese and bacon. It was OK but I would have liked to see a better presentation. Another person had the pasta with ragu which was OK but there was a small amount of pasta compared to the ragu. So all in all I found it OK but not very good value for money.

We made a reservation for lunch on a recent Saturday. This restaurant is attached to the hotel Monaco, which is a swanky urban spot. Both are located next to major tourist areas, but I still found the vibe of the restaurant, authentic and cool. We wanted to sit outside, but they could only accommodate us inside. Nonetheless, we enjoyed a nice lunch. Food and service were just OK.

We ordered from this restaurant while staying at the attached hotel. Service was quick and accurate on both to go orders we placed. The Tavern burgers were so delicious!

Very good food and superb service. Samir was our server - friendly. We enjoyed our meal here and would be happy to go again

Over the years, this restaurant and the Kimpton Monaco Hotel have served me and my sisters well. It has been a moment since we have gotten together and the weekend of October 31st was a 50th birthday celebration. The Red Owl never fails us. We were running late for our reservation and they kept it open for us. I should mention- they were just about fully booked inside and outside. We were well taken care of by Coral. The Prosecco recommendation was FANTASTIC! She was patient and attentive and had our food right on time. 10 for 10 Service... The following morning, we decided at the last minute to do brunch here. They found a nice spot for us outside and Janae was AWESOME! Another great meal and 10 out of 10 Service. Also, it started to pour down rain. No worries. Where Brittany sat us, we were covered! Having a delicious meal, on a beautiful rainy Halloween Sunday Midday, at a Superb eatery, attached to a Brilliant hotel- is the way to cap off a memorable weekend with family.

We booked for an early Thanksgiving dinner - food was great, wait service excellent, nice ambiance. Although a tavern, it was easy to converse with our party as the background noise was low and the restaurant was not over crowded.

This is a large restaurant in Center City. Our food was good, my cocktail was strong, and service was friendly and good. This is a very good casual dinner choice.

The food was good; we had mimosas and it worked out well. Service was good. It was busy but they didn't rush us.

I usually don't eat on a main drag, figuring high prices and run of the mill food. Oh no, I believe I ate my words on this one! Ate near our hotel to them head to an event on Broad St. Figured the restaurants are less busy away from the Theater. Absolutely found the ambience upon entering very intriguing. It's very pleasing on your eyes. Hostess welcoming. Server very polite and easy to listen to when it appears she is proud to work there. This is evidenced while describing the food entrees and then the fan favorites. Short Rib Cavatelli delicious! BBQ Salmon cooked perfectly. My crafted martini exactly the way I like it. We stated that time was important to get to a venue and our in/out time was with time to spare to comfortably attend our event. IMHO this make a perfect and enjoyable evening. Delicious too!

We were staying at the kimpton hotel attached to the restaurant and ate here a few times. The first day we had breakfast outside with our dog, but when we went back the next morning, were told they don’t do outdoor seating for breakfast which was strange, especially because the hotel is so dog friendly. Breakfast food was average, nothing special. We also came for late night snacks one night and got chipotle hummus, fries, and a cheeseboard. All of our snacks were quite good!

The food was so great here! The must have item here is the french onion soup. It is a different variation but oh my goodness it was DELICIOUS. I am still dreaming of it! We also ordered a Roast Pork Sandwich and the pasta dish, I believe it was called better than your nonna's bolognese?! It was so yummmy! We will definitely be back soon!

To start off our experience the matre'd strongly encouraged us to sit at the bar. I assume because they were short on wait staff. 2nd the bartender was so surly it wasn't fun at all. Normally we like to banter with the bartender. She never cracked a smile, was negative from the get go. 3rd the french fries were very small, the majority of them less than an inch long and overcooked. 4th the periogis had almost no mashed potatoes in them and were over fried. The condiments with them were delicious. 5th Given the quality of the food it was overpriced. This restaurant has 4 stars. We can only assume the regular staff was not on tonight. We are a well traveled couple and have enjoyed many restaurants across the United States. Something was definitely wrong here.

This place is a joke. The food is grossly overpriced and the drinks are HORRIBLE! That was probably THE WORST margarita I ever had in my life. I asked for it to be made with Casamigos Tequila and it was $20. I go out in Manhattan all the time and the only time drinks are that expensive is in an extreme fine dining establishment. According to the rules now you have to order food and we got the Parmesan truffle fries. What we got were nasty greasy fries with oil soaked Parmesan cheese but no flavor of truffle. Three drinks and fries came to over $70 without tip. Are you kidding me??? The manager said well drinks cost more in Philly. Ummmm no. Go anywhere else!!! Don’t waste your money!!!

I came here for the first time during my birthday week for my travel to philadelphia. It was a lovely experience. I had. the lamb sugo which was divine. Service was great and amazing cocktails. I look forward to stopping in again when i return next week!

This is a worthy dining option in the Independence Mall area. The decor is tastefully done a modern, an acceptable menu and fairly priced. Service was ok and food quality good. We would dine there again.

Service was excellent as wS the food. Standouts were the crab fritters, sautéed salmon and the short ribs. Highly recommended.

Service was awful. Hamburger was burnt and so was the bun. The parts that weren't blackened burnt were dry because they don't provide any condiments (this was a to go order). The lettuce was brown, limp, and old. The fries were good. Not at all impressed.

Staying at the Kimpton Monaco hotel, eating here was really convenient. The service was friendly and efficient (thank you Kalie) and we enjoyed the food. Would recommend.

Went for breakfast and everyone enjoyed their food. Service was friendly and attentive. They also have a great kids menu.

Great food, great wait staff and great location. I had the salmon which was perfectly cooked. Service was fast and efficient

Service just okay. Food tasted off. My chicken Caesar salad wilted, chicken over cooked and even my seltzer tasted like something wrong with it. I became very ill after this meal. Will not return.

The Red Owl Has great service, got seated immediately with a super attentive waitress. My food was not made as requested and arrived cold. Coffee was tasty but also cold.

Had the Philly cheese steak. Was really nice, great portion size. Would recommend. One of our party had the child's pasta and it was like pasta with soup, it either hadn't been drained property or defrosted, really disappointing.

It may sound strange that this review is culmination of 4 visits over 4 days but we were with family with a one year old that needed fed at certain times and this was the easiest option as we were staying at the Kimpton next door. We had 3 breakfasts and a dinner ( our first night). Food is extremely mediocre. Hostesses are disinterested. Serving staff good but kitchen throw out food that is often cold or unappetizing. We had two identical breakfasts served at same time ( eggs Benedict) and one had hard poached eggs and cold potatoes ( sent back) while the other was just fine. This mirrored our experience on other occasions. They seem to take the business they get from effectively being the hotel restaurant for granted and do little to give value for money or to take care with their food. The servers were good but everything else was just poor.

Was able to snag a table on a super busy Sunday. Our food was excellent, service was quick and pointed, and the overall vibe was excellent. The only strange thing is that you have trek through hallways and down stairs to find a bathroom (restaurant is in a hotel.) I'd definitely return!

This is the restaurant attached to the Monaco Hotel. The kitchen is open for breakfast only on weekends. I had the steak and eggs. I ordered medium rare but the steak was barely rare (cool red meat throughout); also, the taste was good but it was chewy rather than tender. My wife's eggs over easy were fine but the potatoes that came with both dishes were mediocre and crazily oversalted. Good wheat toast with butter and jam. By the way, on weekdays they offer the kind of breakfast items that you find in the cold breakfast buffets you find at chain hotels. You can also get a breakfast sandwich on a bagel with bacon that they heat in a toaster oven and that is truly excellent.

Very close to Constitution Hall, Independence Square and the Liberty Bell. Food is good. I have tue smoked brisket. It came with either fried or code Caesar. They gave me both. Service so so. My friend’s falafel was really good too.

I guess I need a little more elbow room, even tho I'm a tiny person. Great service but limited menu, very tight quarters and nothing special.

Sat outside on a beautiful day. Great service. Great chicken caesar salad. Has a good variety of food on the menu. Will be back.

The Philly Cheesesteak was incredible!! Very friendly staff. We loved our meal here. Great location.

A busy night had the kitchen sending food before it was fully cooked. Gordon Ramsey would have gone hoarse kicking ass in the kitchen. New/inexperienced waitress did her best but was slow to get drinks out and dishes cleared. HOWEVER once the food came back it was done perfectly and their twist on standard items like the pork chop was excellent, seafood was delicious and drinks were clever and well done. A little more management in the kitchen and front of house and this could be 4.5 stars+

I don’t often write reviews but our server at Red Owl, whose table we took up almost the entire day (we were there for breakfast, lunch and meetings) was one of the best I’ve encountered in Philadelphia. She was so kind, excellent with menu knowledge, attentive, and just everything you’d want in a hospitality professional. Janaye, if you’re reading this, you made our day! Red Owl, the food was great, and Janaye is a star!

Best burger I’ve had in a long time! It was perfectly cooked and the fries that came with it were also delicious. Loved their seasonal cocktail menu, it was so fun to try the festive wintery drinks! Our server was super kind and checked on us regularly. My friend had the bolognese and said it was amazing! We also ordered breakfast from here via in room dining and everything was so delicious. I highly recommend the eggs benedict and waffles!

Perfect spot for lunch while taking in the sights. Seated quickly, excellent cocktails, food was great. A must stop if you’re in the area.

The Red Owl Tavern is located in the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in an area that has very few restaurants for dinner. The Tavern's downstairs is dominated by a bar and loud music. The upstairs area has some tables for two that overlook the bar, but the booths and tables that don't overlook the bar are dark and feel dirty. Most of the staff was fine, but our waiter was very weird. The food itself was not good. The pasta portion was ridiculously small, which was just as well because it was so bad that we sent it back. Eating the poorly prepared steak was a battle. I would not eat there again.

Red Owl Tavern aims to revive that classic tavern experience, with a distinctly modern touch. The menu covers all the bases. That’s how Red Owl manages to be old, new and free-thinking all at once. Don’t miss the chocolate desert ! You will thank me later.
Outstanding cheesesteaks
These cheesesteaks are outstanding. Much better than the touristy places in south Philly. Friendly staff. We had a minor concern and had called ahead - the manager on duty could not have been more pleasant, encouraged us to visit and we have a wonder meal and time. Highly recommended.
