We had been wanting to visit this historic restaurant in Overtown for some time, and the four of us were happy to find that it was such a lovely venue. We were there for a 1:30 lunch and had no trouble finding street parking. The "outdoor dining" is more of an outdoor-ish room, light and bright and very pretty. We liked the idea of prix fixe offerings on the lunch menu, with deviled eggs, a salad, and a sandwich for $25, with choices for each. For $35 you also got a side. There were a la carte offerings too. We had thought that if you ordered a regular sandwich off the a la carte menu, it was a bigger size than the sandwich that came with the prix fixe, but our experience didn't prove that to be true. The deviled eggs were tangy and delicious with chili spices. We tried both salads and loved the dressings. We mistakenly thought the friend green tomato sandwich came with chicken AND tomatoes but that apparently isn't what "chicken fried green tomatoes sandwich" means! It was delicious anyway. My husband found his regular chicken sandwich to be tasty with the spices but the chicken was a bit hard from being so crispy. We ordered corn bread to share and it was delicious. The side dish of a baked yam was scrumptious (we had so much food I ended up taking the yam home and having it for breakfast). Overall, service was excellent. The only down side is that we had been seated in the middle of the outdoor room, which was just perfect until a large community group showed up toward the end of our meal and surrounded our table. They were happily chatting away and mingling and drinking, and it got so loud that we couldn't converse without shouting. Our very able server offered to move us inside to the empty dining room, but as we were nearly done with our meal and didn't have room for dessert, we just stuck it out until our check arrived. We did enjoy looking at all the art in the various rooms and the historic posters relating to the Green Book etc. We loved seeing Kara Walker silhouette art covering one wall as we are from Rhode Island where she attended the RI School of Design and was well-known as a silhouettist.

This is a fun spot for friends and dates. We had a reservation for five of us, and when we arrived at the restaurant our table wasn't ready so we had some drinks at the bar, the drinks were good if not a bit pricey. The menu is mostly Southern Comfort food which is a bit on the expensive side. A lot of the dishes are for sharing with whole chicken and fish to share for $125 - $200. I ordered the fried chicken plate which was good and a generous portion, my spouse had the jambalaya which he enjoyed. We had cornbread to share to start. Service was very good, our waitress was extremely attentive and enthusiastic which sort of made up for the overpriced menu. Like a lot of things in Miami you're paying for the venue more than the food, but none-the-less it's still a fun restaurant with good food - definitely the place to go with friends.

I am writing to express my disappointment with the quality of the food we received during our recent visit to your establishment. As long-time customers who have always enjoyed great service and delicious meals in the past, we were extremely let down by our experience this time. The shrimp and grits we ordered had lumpy grits, which was quite off-putting. Additionally, the oxtail fried rice was hard and undercooked. This was a stark contrast to the wonderful meals we have had at Red Rooster in the past. Furthermore, we were concerned to see that the chef was wearing slides in the kitchen, which we found to be both unsafe and unsanitary. We believe that proper attire is crucial in a restaurant setting to maintain cleanliness and safety standards. Despite these issues, we want to commend our server for her excellent service during our visit. She was attentive and friendly, and we appreciate her efforts to make our dining experience enjoyable. As loyal customers who want to continue supporting a black-owned business like Red Rooster, we hope that you can address these issues and strive for better quality in the future. We believe in the potential of your restaurant and look forward to seeing improvements in the service and food offerings.

Exceptional experience having breakfast at Red Rooster on a Sunday morning. Very attentive, friendly, professional service starting with the hostess assigning us a table on through the wait staff. The table on the patio was just right for our group - 4 adults and two small kids. Everything we ordered was right on … starting with the OJ that was truly freshly squeezed. The cornbread, chicken and waffles, green omelette, avocado toast were delicious but my fav was the French toast. To be honest they exceeded my expectations.

Had this restaurant on my outings wish list for a year. We tried everything that was recommended deviled eggs, oxtails fried rice, and fried chicken. We were very disappointed, the devil eggs was just like eating a jar of mustard, no taste or anything amazing, just very sour and tangy. The food was so salty and over priced. Environment was nice, but seating on benches is so close, you might as well reach over and share the food with the people next to you. Overall, not happy at all with this experience, I look forward to getting a doggie bag to continue enjoying my food at home. This time, I was more than happy to throw everything away.

The Red Rooster provided a great overall experience. The restaurant had a combination of fun live entertainment, good food, and great atmosphere. There was live music and many great food selections. I would highly recommend the ox tails and deviled eggs. This place is a must visit in Overtown.

I attended a family/friend gathering at Red Rooster Overtown with great expectations, as I am a fan of Marcus Samuelsson and have been to his restaurant in Stockholm. We had a pre-set menu of corn bread, deviled eggs, conch salad, snapper, jambalaya & grits, fried yardbird & biscuits, Mac & cheese and jerk sweet potato. It was one of my greatest food experiences ever. I will definitely be back!

Coffee came ten minutes after ordering, cold, and was replaced with watery Americanos without comment, small and never refilled. This despite arriving at opening and being one of three parties in the place. Mediocre food, bad side waffle; automatic 20% tip was the final indignity.

My husband and I loved Red Rooster in Overtown, Miami. Our waiter, Tony, was charming and informative with excellent recommendations. He even gave me a tour of historic areas of the building. The staff was very efficient. We highly recommend the corn bread, spicy spaghetti with crab, fried chicken, smoky sweet collard greens, and the creative key lime dessert. My cocktail with a golden shimmer set the scene. Delightful atmosphere.

I have been to Red Rooster Overtown several times since it has been open. Every time I have gone, the service has been great. Yesterday, however, was the worst experience I have EVER had in a restaurant. Here's what happened... we ordered the fired chicken. When the orders arrived, the chicken was clearly burned. We've ordered this before so we were all familiar and used to the golden brown color of the chicken. When we alerted our waiter, he took the plates away and didn't say anything, nor did he come back. After waiting about 40 minutes one of the guests at our table flagged the waiter down and inquired about our orders that we assumed were being remade. He replied with, "the kitchen is closed." He never let us know that before and never came back to check on the table. Later we called for, Tyrese, the manager. He echoed the waiter's response, "the kitchen is closed." He did not accommodate us with anything to make the problem right and he even got irate with use when we questioned us about what he could do or how he could make things right. He then walked away and never came back. We sat there for about 45 more minutes wondering what was going on. No one checked on us. No one gave us a check so I walked over to the manager and said, "are we free to go because no one has come back to our table in almost an hour." He replied again, the kitchen is closed. What do you want me to do? Even as I'm writing this review I still can't believe the level of unprofessionalism I encountered.

Nice decor , lots of different t areas to sit, our waiter was very attentive and read through the menu. The menu was pricey however everywhere in Miami is. We ordered the chicken and ribs . The ribs were tasty and I had Mac and cheese which was really tasty. The chicken was nice and we left with a goody bag. I would recommend as it’s different and the music was good as was the venue.

Henry the manager was super rude when my husband explained the air was directly on us making us both cold. He initially said he couldn't help but later offered us to move outside where it was wet due to rain. Although all of the seats outside were empty he pointed to one table and said this it your only option. My husband & I made this trip from Maryland after not being able to order the oxtail during our last visit last month solely to have this meal. Thanks to Henry we left. Our brunch experience on October 23rd was great but this time was a missed opportunity.

It was my FIRST time visiting. The restaurant was clean and the ambiance was perfect. Totally loved how the young chef was in his zen spot as he whipped up marvelous looking dishes. The waiter was extremely friendly and pleasant. The trouble came in when the bill was paid. My bill was $177+, which included gratuities. I gave the waiter a $100 bill and a new $100 VISA gift card. We WAITED for him to return with my change of over $20, but he didn’t. We had to get a manager to find him. When he came to the table, he explained that he almost threw the card away because he thought it was finished. He took it out of his pocket and gave it to me. Later that evening, I came back to buy their delicious pecan pie. I had planned on purchasing it with the balance on the card, which should have been more than enough to pay for the pie. To my chagrin, the waiter told me that the card would only take $6. Now, I was perplexed. I asked for the manager, who went upstairs to pull the receipt up. The receipt, unfortunately, couldn’t explain the lack of funds on my gift card. The manager had no solution for me but to call the card company, which I did, but they were busy. I think if I were the manager, I would have just given the customer the pie. Why would I spend almost $200 less than 3 hours earlier, and come back to hustle the restaurant for a $17 piece of pie?

Great vibe + great food = great time! Loved this new place in Overtown! The decor is beautiful with a throw back to 1950's Florida vibe with a modern feel. They have a great and large outdoor terrace and bar that is very accommodating. Their cocktails are delicious, I recommend the "Yes Chef". Food was very unique and yummy. I recommend the tuna poke with a coffee ponzu sauce, the crab and corn fritters, the fried chicken as well as the table-side flambé of the Rooster Royale. The Mac and cheese side was also spot-on. The sundae dessert just completed our meal...I think it had everything but the kitchen sink. Definitely a must try. Last but not least, service was really fantastic. Our server was well versed in the menu and had great recommendations.

I am a fan of Marcus Samuelsson so whenever I had the opportunity to visit a city where he has a restaurant I always like to try it. Sometime ago during a trip to New York I went to the Red Rooster in Harlem and I loved it so, when I heard that it was going to open in Miami, I was very excited. We had to wait a while because of Covid the opening was delayed but, it was worth the wait, finally last night we managed to go for dinner, I just love it, the place is great, really beautiful indoor and it has an amazing outdoor patio, really lovely and the food so tasty. We had Marcus’s cornbread, OMG the spiced rum butter was to die for, then CCC Fritter, Sour Orange Pig Ribs, Fried Yard Bird, Florida Shrimp & Grits and Mac & Cheese, we did not have room for dessert but I have already decided I will save room for it next time 😜 this will for sure be a new favorite and will go back again, well done guys 👏❤️👏 For more of my favorite restaurants, places and more, like my Facebook page Naddia’s Favorites or follow me on Instagram @naddias_favorites

Love Red Rooster NYC and Chef Samuelsson...his vision, culinary expertise and commitment to the community is exemplary...unfortunately, Red Rooster Overtown's "grand opening" weekend was not that hot. Sadly, standing outside in the blistering South Florida heat on a Saturday for well over an Hour to get our take-away and order ice cream in their Creamery was indeed Hot, to say the least. Apparently, the event planners didn't anticipate such a welcoming turn out. The line was long, the heat sweltering and not a cup of water or fans anywhere in sight to keep waiting guests cool, calm and collected. When asked about some water for those in line, Marvin, the personable Manager, informed us they didn't have enough cups to give us any! Oddly though, they did come around with samplings of Rose' wine (in cups) for those of us outside. Marvin took our order while in line and the food was ready for pick-up surprisingly fast. Problem was, we were still in the line 20 more minutes before being allowed inside the small-spaced Creamery to order our ice cream. Happy to say, the ice cream was deliciously rich n creamy and more so atop our half Red Velvet waffle. Needless to say, we were excited to get home to enjoy our take-away meals which consisted of: CK's Chicken n' Waffles, Fried Yard Bird, Greens and Grains Salad and Yep! Mac & Cheese...they even threw in some baked beans (either intentionally or by accident). Sorry to report, however, the chicken, although well seasoned, was under cooked, still pink inside. The Mac n Cheese was so so. And the Grains and Greens were good but not sure $10 good...? Bottom line, although disappointed with our first visit to Red Rooster Overtown, we're not about to give up on them or Chef Samuelsson considering the current state of restaurant affairs and the extraordinary challenges facing them...We will, however, wait until their Team gets some more experience under their belts and their dining room is finally opened for comfortable, air-conditioned, seating.

Trendy stylish restaurant in up-and-coming gentrifying Overton. Parking lot is right next to the restaurant. Happy hour at the bar and patio included discounted signature cocktails, wine and a few appetizers. Very friendly welcoming staff. We were given a tour of the upstairs party / club space with the terrace looking down over the patio, private rooms, and ice cream shop. We started with signature cocktails which were delicious. My husband and I shared the smoked rooster with mac & cheese & Amazing broccoli. The chicken came to our table flaming, it was a memorable presentation. Our son ordered a T-bone steak that we thought came with a sauce & lobster tail. Everything was absolutely delicious! I’d love the recipe for the broccoli and our son said that was the best steak he ever ate. We have enough chicken for dinner tonight. The bill was a little funny, we never got the actual bill until we left and it was on our phone. Our waiter tapped our table on his handheld device, quickly punched in a few numbers, then showed us the final amount, asking us to sign. When we left we realized our son‘s steak meal was double what we expected; At least he really really enjoyed it

Went to experience something new but received terrible service. Not sure if the tall, linky guy was the manager or not but he was very rude from the time I walked in the door. We went mid day and only two other females were there, he wanted to put us in the very back, under a tree that was shedding leaves while a have a baby. I asked for a table and his response was there are no tables I could put you at, again, only two females were in the whole restaurant. We eventually got Seated at a table after some pushback on my end. His attitude made me not even wanna be there, my husband did not order anything he wanted to leave immediately. I ordered cornbread and Lady Day which both were good. The service did not warrant us to stay and order anything else.

Location is not really attractive, but this is Miami! Parking is not very friendly. The parking site right next door charges $20 flat fee, or else you may try the street, but not always easy. The food is very good, tasty and very well presented. Original dishes to be discovered with that special Caribbean touch to them. Portions are generous. Our server was very friendly, and very efficient during the first part of the service. However, once all main courses were served she seemed to drift away and did not come back to check on table, even if we had ordered a large main dish to be shared by 4 of us. Once we were finished with main course, some plates were picked up and two of the appetizers we were sharing at the center of the table were basically left there until we left. Note we had no dessert or coffee. I also found the place to be a bit loud, not easy to have a conversation with more than one person, music level should be reconsidered. Overall a good experience and I would definitively return.

Uncomfortable seats. Small table for 4. No ravioli as ordered. Mac and cheese only other acceptable choice…. Son ordered ribs which did not have much meat with unappetizing sauce, served with a smashed pile of some kind of potato salad and a few sliced pickles. Spices over whelm food. The DJ had the sound up so loud we could not converse. Not a good neighborhood. Not a pleasant experience.

The food was amazing and the service was great....The ambience is beautiful with live music!! Oh my God the prices are unbelievable three eggs $14.... they are topped with caviar!! cornbread appetizer also delicious $8 bucks?! I’m talking small portion not quite tapas but definitely small portion!! Making this place completely overpriced I had the ribeye Mac & cheese and jerk sweet potatoes....Amazing amazing amazing... I will be going back to try the $103 Wagyu beef oxtails I will keep you posted...

Food was mediocre especially mac and cheese, fritters were dry, sauces were watery. The grilled snapper was the best but that was not very flavorful. I did not eat my desert because I was disheartned by the meal. The food paled in comparison to the NYC location. I don't think I will every go there again and I am a foodie and love restaurants. The interior was quite beautiful and interesting. I am so heart broken because I was so looking forward to this addition to the Miami food scene. The customer service was not great. PLEASE STEP UP YOUR GAME!! I bought Samuleson most recent book but I am thinking about sending it back.

Lovely brunch on the patio with live gospel music. Enjoyed the cornbread Cc and deviled eggs to start. Shirleys Cesar isn’t traditional ( it has beans and tomatoes) but it’s exceptional.

We had a Saturday lunch here and then walked to HistoryMiami to visit an exhibit. The food is outstanding, the service extremely professional, and the decor is well done - an homage to Overtown’s history that also features work by talented Black artists. Delicious and a pleasant experience. Will come back if we can get a reservation!

The food was excellent and we also had excellent service. Our waiter David made sure our food was paved and didn’t come out all at once. Dirty plates were removed and replaced with fresh ones for each course. And the cornbread, the fritters, the Mac and cheese, the chicken and por ribs were all to die for.

Visited for dinner with a business colleague. Best item was the pork chop appetizer which was very good. We talked to the waitress about why they didn’t offer it as an entree and she said they have had many requests and management hadn’t decided to offer it. Not sure why. Had a couple of their specialty cocktails and they were pretty good. Good, not great.

Wesley was exceptional, as he made certain we had a dining experience. 1st the special cocktails for the group and his attentiveness were all 5 star. We ladies dined on the catfish, yard bird, shrimp & grits and a variety of delicious sides ( greens, mac n cheese, & the one of a kind made from scratch cornbread). The ambience was top notch as this venue is filled with history and provided that tropical vibe. We’ll definitely recommend it as a spot for couples, the girls or guys, and small or large groups W/love 2022

The Red Rooster surpassed all of my expectations. You don’t frequently discover a setting where everything fits together so well. I’ve gone to a lot of similar eateries, but this one really sticks out. The attraction to detail and devotion to guests serves distinguishes it from the competition. Hats off to our server Marco (whom we share the same birthday )for treating us like family. I’ll suggest your restaurant to every one of my friends and family. I truly enjoyed the southern style cuisine.

My husband and I love Red Rooster. The servers are always super friendly and staff is exceptionally kind. We had May as our server on our vist lastnight and felt taken care of and seen. The music and atmosphere are timeless and nod to Jazz and African culture too. Great place for a date, group for friends, or to bring your mother for brunch. There is something on the menu for everyone here and food is always exceptionally delicious.

Great food with very attentive service from Viola. Delicious devilled eggs, fried green tomatoes, grilled Octopus and sweet potatoes. Everything was fresh and tasty. Would definitely return.

Exceptional dining experience in the tradition of it's sister restaurant in Harlem. Our dinner and service was just a wow! Even though we just came from the baseball game and was dressed as such we got treated like one of the players. Our waiter gave us a tour of the private rooms, patio, ice cream shop & upstairs party space. We shared the smoked Rooster with the most delicious broccoli and truffle mac & cheese. The chicken was flavorful as well as juicy Too bad we could only give 5 stars. Same for their T-bone steak and truffle sauce which our son had. While they don't have the Obama short ribs and some of the sangria choices they have at their Harlem restaurant it still is exceptional nontheless. The manager mentioned that while a lot is copied from their Harlem location, they also want this location to stand out on its own and be different. Definitely will be back.

The restaurant is artistic and clean. The food was delicious. We had the ribs and it was scrumptious and a little different. The cornbread was perfect with jalapeño butter. The succotash was also different and fabulous. There are so many more dishes I want to try. We will be back.

We have been fans of Marcus Samuelsson since this days at Aquavit, the Swedish restaurant in Manhattan that earned him three stars by the New York Times at the tender age age of 23. At 27 he won a James Beard award. Now at the age of 50, with dozens of books and restaurants to his credit, he is expanding his Red Rooster Restaurant which he started 2010. We ate there in 2010. Now there are Red Roosters in London and Miami. Sorry to say, the food was better in 2010. Now it is more of a cultural phenome rather than a high quality restaurant. The restaurant is fun, a good place for a crowd. There is a bar upstairs with bands. An ice cream store, dishes if you are interested. However, the food, is only average. The signature chicken is overly crisp and very suite. The corn bread is fine, but nothing special. The kale salad was fine. Shrimp with rice grits was okay. But for a chef who as talented as Samuelsson, it is a disappointment. Service was good and the vibe is terrific. They just need to improve on the food.

Lovely Service from the time we stepped in until we left. The food was incredible and the energy of the space is awesome!

Went here for Christmas dinner. Really nice place, good food. I would love to come back for regular menu items and not a buffet, because I don't eat enough to make a buffet worth it but it was nice. They had many options of food. The paella was cold, so that was not good. The fried chicken, oxtail fried rice, brussel sprouts and Mac n cheese were absolutely delicious. My friends had the prime rib and pork loin and said they were really good as well. The staff was ok, but giving grace because it was Christmas and busy. The ambiance was nice and interesting as it had a tree in the restaurant, out the roof. I believe this would be a great restaurant at any time of the year, especially for soul type food.

My cousin picked this place to have dinner. We didn’t have reservations but we were quickly seated. I loved the atmosphere inside—jazzy chic. I did enjoy the cornbread. But my pasta was a bit lacking—there was more spinach than noodles. The staff was friendly.

The biscuits are delicious! The staff ensures the food is to your satisfaction. I met Marcus S. He’s super nice. Posh decor . Nice ambiance.

Everything from the atmosphere, music, service, food, and drinks were amazing! The oysters were perfect. The cornbread was delicious. The shrimp and grits and spaghetti was amazing 👏

Can’t say enough about this restaurant. Had always wanted to try the Harlem location but never had the opportunity so I was so delighted to learn about the Miami location and immediately made a reservation for Christmas Eve. We had a wonderful dinner and overall great time. We started with the cornbread and followed with the jambalaya for me and the local snapper for hubby. My hubby could not stop raving about his fish which was in a very tasty light curry sauce. He said it was an experience for the senses. I thoroughly enjoyed my jambalaya although I can’t say I tasted any crab in it. Mostly shrimp and jambalaya sausage. But it was well spiced with that nice creamy Cajun sauce and creamy slightly cheezy grits on the side. We enjoyed the upbeat atmosphere, beautifully decorated dining space and wonderful service from our waitress. I am definetly going back. Highly recommend if you want beautiful authentic soul food in a wonderful location and dining space.

Great place, great food, good service, expensive but overall memorable experience. The place where we had dinner has a roof that can be opened or closed, great lamb, sweet potato, fried broccoli, super crispy bread fried chicken but juicy. Portions are big and there was too much food left, which the place donates to homeless.

Pros: Our waiter was nice and explained our choices well. The decor is nice. Cons: What wasn’t nice was the broken plumbing in the ladies room and the mosquitos that are us up during meal. My husband barely ate any of his chicken because it was fried so hard. And the biscuits were old. My shrimp and grits started great but too much pepper added. When I mentioned mosquito’s to waiter, he just said yeah, the come front outside. He also didn’t even ask us if we liked the food, when we r obviously left a lot on the plate waisted. Sigh.

I have been to Red Rooster in Harlem and had been impressed with the atmosphere, service and the cuisine. So I thought I would have a similar or aligned experience at Red Rooster Overtown. I was disappointed with the reception and service. The food did not disappoint. Let's start with the reception. When we arrived for our 1:30pm reservation, we were about 15 minutes early and thought we'd just grab a drink at the bar prior to being seated. Upon entering the restaurant, a young woman was at the desk whom we acknowledged with proper greetings to which she responded by turning around and walking away with a word or acknowledgement. (We thought, that was strange. ). Then about 5 minutes later, another woman appears and greets up properly and welcome us and seated us immediately. After being seated, we waited almost 15 minutes before someone came to even ask if we wanted drinks. Noticing that service was lacking, we decided to place drinks, appetizers and our main courses at once, as we didn't want further delays. We ended up waiting 20 minutes to get our drinks and appetizers and an additional 22 minutes before we received our main courses. The waiter was very apologetic. It was all confusing as the restaurant was not crowded. The drinks, appetizers and main courses were delicious. Yet the service sucked so much that I will not go back. To add insult to injury, the waiter comes with our bill and kindly informs us that a 20% gratuity was already added to the bill and we could decided on adding additional. I was offended as the gall of 20%, how presumptuous! The service definitely didn't warrant such, and I know the service staff do not control the output of the bar or the kitchen. Yet, it's pretty ballsy. Get your stuff together Red Rooster Overtown.

At $65-$70 per plate, the restaurant is pricy for such mediocre food. The flagship fried chicken too dry and cornbread too sweet. The vibe was good but could not make up for the hour’s wait fir a booked table, and food

Highly rated and located inside a beautiful building , the southern charm is evident from the very moment one steps In . A glamorous bar , indoor seating and some southern Al fresco dining options . An excellent cocktail selection at moderate prices . The shocker comes when the menu is presented . Chock full of all The classic southern dishes you would want and hope to see . As a solo dinner I was hoping to sample many different items , to get the full southern dining experience I’ve come to expect from southern hospitality. Instead I was greeted alarmingly over priced simple Southern dishes . At least the portion sizes are generous . Service was wonderful and accommodating , however it took 20 mins for my 6 oysters to arrive . After waiting 30 minutes for my dessert to arrive I was informed that there wasn’t any desserts prepped ! Possibly the most obscene thing I have ever heard from a restaurant! Not one single dessert on the menu was available .

All of the food was very good. Delish cocktails! Waitstaff wonderful. Has a good vibe. Music and dinner. Very festive

Growing up in Miami I’ve become spoiled by great food over the years and after watching a positive review of the restaurant on a local news channel we decided to give Red Rooster a try. What a great decision! First off what a beautiful place! Walk in to the place and be immediately impressed by the bar area! Service was friendly, efficient and professional. Cocktails original and flavorful. Ahhh…but the food! The cornbread was the best I’ve ever tasted. I’ve had shrimp and grits many times in the past so I decided to try it here. The plate comes to the table and…it’s green colored? What? Skeptical. I try a small spoonful. Wow! Out of this world delicious! I hate to admit I ordered another cornbread just so I could soak up every last drop of that dish! Great night out for dinner. Check it out. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

We decided to reunite with dear friends in Miami and reserved a table near the outdoor covered patio. The atmosphere is striking and cool, with attention to detail throughout. A large bar exudes luxurious swagger and serves up an excellent selection of spirits. We tried the Old Uncle Duke (black-owned bourbon whiskey with Demerara syrup and Italicus Rosilio) a perfect introduction to the flavors of the Fried Yardbird and Rooster Royale ahead. We started with the Tasmanian Sea Trout crudo, amazingly fresh in appearance texture and delicate flavor, with maracuyá and spicy arugula to mix it up on the palate. The Red Endive salad was tamed with sweet mango, beets and mint then literally peppered with chili and soothed with a creamy burrata. The sides: pigeon peas and mac n’cheese are meals in themselves, rich and deep in flavor. Let the collard greens sit on the palate, wet and crunchy to best savor the smoky pork aroma and seasoning. The spaghetti Piccadilly - flavorful and spicy hot - was perhaps too rich - the crab got lost, smothered in cheese. The smoked rooster Royale was spectacular in presentation and succulence, slow cooked and tender with a miso and smokehouse aroma. The crunchy and juicy fried yardbird (3 legs and a thigh) was served on a wood plank with a scorching hot cast iron tureen of pigeon peas. We may have over indulged by going all in for dessert - but our taste buds could not resist. We shared a scoop of vanilla-cornbread homemade ice cream, “InLove with Cocoa” - pecan praline chunks arrayed in a creamy cocoa custard and dark chocolate cake; and “Tropical Roots” - a light carrot cake, maracuyá and rich buttermilk sorbet. The service- from greeting to bar to table - is outstanding: friendly, detailed oriented and professional. We took an after dinner walk east along NW 10 to NW 1st then down to NW 6 and back up NW 2nd past the historic Lyric Theater. Our friends parked on the street snd we paid $15 to park on the lot next to the restaurant. No doubt the experience was worth the drive from Fort Lauderdale! Highly recommend!

Have you ever had a long day, thought to yourself man I'd like a drink. But you know what I really want to order a drink and wait 35min to get it. Well you're in luck. Red Roosters "not so happy, happy hour is for you!" The happy hour is from 5-7pm on Mon-Friday. And in my 2x of coming for happy hour and 3x between having lunch and dinner the one consistent thing here is that service will be SLOW! I have been to literal bars in Ireland in St. Patrick's Day that has faster service. Let's not get mistaken I've been there when it's been slow and when it's been busy. They all equal the same outcome =SLOW service. However, the issue is when every check comes with 22% automatic gratuity for every party no matter size you would think some level of service would but included. You would also think a restaurant that got the Bib Gourmand would do better but-- NOPE. Now the food, the food is definitely "gourmet looking" but the flavors are standard and with very little unique qualities. I will say the cornbread is a favorite and at least always comes out hot and delicious. Everything else I've had on the lunch and dinner menu aren't as memorable. Pros: 1. Outdoor area 2. Ambience is nice Cons: 1. They will misplace your credit cards 2. When you ask for the manager the will look at you and say "they are too busy, to talk" 3. Bartenders clean their hands by wiping behind their jean pockets 4. Calling the restaurant will never happen 5. SLOW service 6. Automatic Gratuity on all checks no matter the size of the party 7. Everything comes with a side of attitude

I just had an awesome culinary experience at The Red Rooster in the Overtown neighborhood of Miami. Not only was the food absolutely delicious, the service( our waiter Carlos), the ambiance, the history exhibited on the walls, and the meticulous care given to this spotless establishment, created a wonderful evening for me and my partner. Not to be missed, for any local or tourist, visiting this historic community!

We went for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Overall it was a great experience. The atmosphere is great and staff are friendly. We had the cornbread and fritters for apps - I highly recommend both. The cornbread is moist and flavorful, and the fritters are delicious, particularly with the dipping sauce that comes with them. For entrees my husband had the yard bird, which came with beans, and he got a side of collard greens. The chicken was crispy, full of flavor, and the collard greens were awesome. I don’t even typically like collard greens, but these were an exception. I got the charred octopus and a side of Mac and cheese. The octopus was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed the peanut topping. The Mac and cheese was amazing. For cocktails, the brownstoner and the marqueta were both well balanced and tasty. We were too full for dessert, but it was tempting! We would definitely return.

Great ambiance for a friend's outing, solo, couples, or family. Traditional American food, a good variety of drinks. Not packed during the day in case you like your space. Friendly staff. Look out for the occasional real rooster strolling down the street! Hey, this is Miami!

Was there yesterday with a group of travel agents. We were treated great by the staff. They were very attentive and friendly. The food was fantastic. DELICIOUS and plentiful. The flavors were fantastic. Food was served family style. We had the cornbread, Ceasar salad, mac and cheese, friend chicken and shrimp over grits. The shrimp had a bit of a bit to it but not too bad. The chicken was nice and crunchy and that skin had a nice honey coating. mmmmmmm..... There is entertainment at nights and a pool room up above. The decor and the bar up front is fantastic. The pictures, articles and artifacts on the walls make waiting for a seat an event in itself. Not sure about parking but distance from the Brightline train is just a few block. This is a place you should consider if you're in the area.

Very good decor, but service leaves a lot to be desired. Our cocktail glasses were left on the table for at least 30 minutes after we finished. One couple was late because of traffic. I had to go look for our server so that they could order a drink. We has a few things to start while we were waiting. When our first course arrived we still had dirty dishes in front of us. The octopus main was really skimpy. Their renowned fried chicken was not nearly as good as Yardbird’s. They called me two days before to make sure I was going to be there. I figured that they must be close to full capacity. Ha ha. Maybe 25% occupied. I called them three times in the afternoon to ask what their corkage cost was. Left three messages. I never received a return call. Not worth the price.

Wow! The gospel brunch is fire! The singer, Maryel Epps Has a beautiful voice. She’s very crowd interactive and fun! With all that, you would think the food can’t also be good…WRONG! There were enough of us that we tried almost everything on the menu. it was all delicious! The server was patient, kind, not deterred by multiple payments. An all around great experience!

Decor lovely, service outstanding, food delicious. BUT THE MUSIC IS TOO LOUD. Bring earplugs if you have sensitive ears.

We have a very nice lunch here. 15 min walk from waterfront area of downtown. The service was slightly slow, but not enough to really be a problem. The food was very good, and the prices were reasonable for the meal. street parking was readily available around lunchtime saturday.

We love red rooster and the pool hall. We have eaten there several times the food is always delicious and they have food specials during the week that it’s not advertised. They have different weekly themes on different days of the week they have live music open mic night etc. upstairs they have the pool hall which is a night club and bar. I have been there on Friday Saturday and Sunday nights and the DJ was awesome. We love to go to pool hall and dance the night away. Friday night is what they call Groove Theory R&b. Saturday night is the shrine which is Afrobeats/Caribbean music. Sunday is all reggae. Monday is poetry night.

Get the tower!!!!! It's amazing. Go on a Sunday too! They have a choir!!!!!! Will def visit again. The oysters were so yummy!!

I took my girlfriend to Red Rooster Overtown for Valentine's Day and she was EXTREMELY HAPPY with the choice. We were in Miami for VDay weekend. The vibe and aura of the establishment is just sublime. The live music was great and the ambience was relaxing. The food was delicious. My girlfriend normally doesn't like eat or like cornbread, however, when I order it and she tried it, she couldn't stop asking for more and more. They had a special V-Day drink called the DANE and she enjoyed that very much. She had the spaghetti picadilly which had blue crab, in a white cream sauce that she devoured. I enjoyed the duck for dinner. Finally, the ice cream they gave at the end of the night, complimentary, was TERRIFIC. Definitely would return to this restaurant.

Based upon friends' recommendations decided to try it out. Was not impressed. Pretentious and pricey. Portions large but chicken was overcooked. Corn Bread was good. Free parking. Back in it's day Overtown must have been quite the place.

Dirty, disorganized, and bad execution in the kitchen. Very chaotic. They did not get one thing right. Never again, never

was the first reviewer of RR Overtown when they held their original "soft opening"...unfortunately it didn't fare well. However, out of great respect for Chef SamueIsson, I promised to return after they got their "training wheels" adjusted and well lubed. Happy to say, did so a couple nights ago with husband & good friends and glad I did. RR got it so right this go around that I was totally blown away by the service and cuisine. Wesley, our waiter, was appreciatively personable, professional and attentive. And, each dish was nothing short of sheer culinary perfection. We had: cc fritters, cornbread, Sour Orange Pig Ribs, Spaghetti Picadilly, Fried Yard Bird, "Yessa" Ribeye Steak and ended the evening with palate pleasing ice cream from their Creamery. Bottom line, Ecstatic to report Red Rooster Overtown now functions/performs like a fine tuned, rehearsed, melodic symphonic orchestra. BRAVO to Chef and Team RR Overtown.

Exceedingly expensive for portion sizes. I would certainly not be coming back. Music very loud. Very dissapointing

Excellent atmosphere and I was pleased to be able to walk in without a reservation and sit at the bar. The folks there were friendly and welcoming. The bar tenders however were a bit overworked and inexperienced. The food (crab cakes) were outstanding but the Old Fashioned was mediocre especially for a Michelin star. I’d absolutely go again but be more likely to consider their wine list over a mixed drink.

Ahyal the manager offered absolutely nothing not even an apology or even s resolution to food that was cold. I watched the food sit under a heat lamp like some type of fast food restaurant. For the money we what a wait!! There was absolutely no people skills what so ever. The food can definitely make someone very sick absolutely disappointed. The manager just looked lost unacceptable unable to handle a simple issue. I watch food sit and timed how long this unorganized displays. 200 dollars bill burnt shrimp cold oxtail absolutely disgusting!!

Made the trip from Broward because I always wanted to visit this location. It was Saturday and they only had brunch menu. needless to say, we were seated inside at our request; however, it was so hot, I wondered if we would be better off sitting outside under the fan. Oysters were great, beef, greens, grits. fish was so-so, didn't even wanted to try the fried wings. desert station was ok as well.

What a cool place in Miami! Just minutes from Downtown or Brickell, this place has been on our list of places for years to come to, and tonight was the night while visiting the Downtown Miami area. Danielle, the hostes sat us. we were a party of three tonight. We started with a few drinks the others had off the menu I had my usual. With an order of their Charbroil chicken wings. so delicious! Then, we shared three dishes recommended by our server, Inti. He recommended the fried chicken with biscuits, the shrimp, grits, and jerk chicken with sweet potato slices and grilled Brussel sprouts. each came with delightful sides, and my wife had to try the mac & cheese. And we could not leave without trying at least one of their special desserts. We went for the chocolate pecan pie... ooh, so good!

Everything was top notch: venue, decor, vibe, service, food. Just a great experience all around. We had conch fritters, deviled eggs, bbq ribs, mac n cheese, shrimp n grits, and margaritas. Conch was heavy on the red peppers, would pass next time but recommend all other dishes.

I really wanted to like this place. Nice venue, good drinks, but that was it. If you have high expectations when it comes to your food, then do not go here. Food was Terrible! We had to exchange food for something different, and was overcharged. $200 for 2 people was not the problem, it was the mediocre service and disgusting food for $200, that was the problem. I did not receive a receipt, so I'm am requesting a receipt for my order, because I'm positive I was overcharged. ***Tip for restaurant: Please find a new cook, or your business will fail. PSA:::::::I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT, only if you want a drink!

I want to thank Chef Amaris Jones and the team with sincere gratitude for making my Red Rooster experience a joyful one.

Red Rooster is a gem in Overtown that is a must visit. If you are a native or visitor this is a place of good vibes and wonderful service. The food is phenomenal and service is even better. Lenny our server was outstanding. He exuded customer service with a great personality and smile. I can't say enough about the service and the friendliness of some of the staff. Thank you for an awesome experience.

This place has fantastic ambience the place to see and be seen in Historic Overtown and it is also doing a lot for the coommunity. Food is good especially the chicken and great selection of drinks.

The good - Phenomenal atmosphere and great vibe. Decor is really nice as well. Service at the table phenomenal (our server was Gabriel). The ox tail was incredible, the oysters very fresh and the burnt cauliflower was tasty. The Mac and cheese was really good. The not so good - The octopus was good but burned at the ends and served less than warm. Nice wine list. The live music was jazz by three young very talented men who as the night progressed got louder and louder. Which was a shame as the acoustics made the music noisy. The bad- We arrived early and headed to the bar (right at the entrance). There must have been 5 other people in addition to us, which makes this bar 80% vacant. Vacant was the service. 10 minutes went by before I had to stop one of the to bartenders (who came out of the bar and walked past us twice) and told him we needed service. The two bartenders obviously not overwhelmed by a busy bar would engage in conversation one or two other people who were eating at the bar and totally ignore us. I think a course in customer service and proper bar tending is required for the Sunday evening bar staff. It's a shame because I would have give 5 stars.

I love this restaurant! It’s really a unique experience. These are my observations! The Bar and outside seating area is beautiful (I observed that the inside seating seemed awkward). The cornbread is really average. it’s an obvious choice as a small appetizer but really nothing special. The Entrees on the other hand were another level of quality and flavors. We had the fried chicken biscuits and the roasted chicken both exceptional dishes and very different flavors. The fried chicken with the sweet sauce is divine. The tenderness of the roasted chicken together with the flavors of the rice and beans makes this a special dish. Both portions were very generous. Our waitress gave us the warmest welcome imaginable and then unfortunately provided below par service and was barely around. Nonetheless it did not deter from the exceptional food. We will be back.

Listen, Anastasia and her team took such good care of my client that she literally had me in tears! She gave me and a couple folks from the team a beautiful detailed tour of the artwork throughout the restaurant and explained the intentionality of how the art was curated and each room in the restaurant curated to compliment the art. And then we ate! I don’t have words to describe the flavours that overwhelmed my mouth. The devilled eggs with caviar and pork crisps, the fried chicken, the shrimp over creamy okra grits…we ate so many dishes and this was 3 weeks ago and I still remember the flavours. Our group took over their beautiful backyard patio and the ambiance combined with their curated playlist had us singing and laughing with abandon! Thank you to Anastasia, the chef and the entire team for making our visit absolutely unforgettable! We’ll be back!

Visited the Red Rooster during a trip for the Florida Classic. The restaurant/bar had a great vibe for an adult crowd. We sat in the bar area at high top tables. The service at the high tops were limited, meaning we had to walk up to the bar and order our drinks. After our first round of drinks the bar staff made a point to check on us and began waiting on us. The bar manager was very attentive too considering this was a very busy evening for them. We ate light food, raw oyster and deviled eggs…both very good. The highlight of the evening, we met Marcus Samuelsson, their well known celebrity chef. A must visit when in Miami.

Music and entertainment was good. Steve ice was sub par and 20% gratuity was automatically added. I’ve been here several times, but food and service today was 5/10. Not worth the money. Won’t be back.

Newer restaurant to the area, and they're still working some things out, but overall, off to a great start! Once they finish everything, this location will be just as great as Harlem's 😊. A little pricey, but good, flavorful food. Some of the entrees don't come with sides. The cornbread is delish 😋. I recommend that they add white meat chicken to the fried chicken entree, as not everyone likes dark meat. Disappointed that I couldn't try it, because of that. Staff is very attentive, and they care about service and the customer experience! The ambiance is nice (there are different sections), and the music was on point. I definitely will return on next visit to MIA! Happy to support this Black-Owned business!!!

Gorgeous restaurant with a fun atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor seating options. Delicious food. Parking on site for a few.

Cornbread | Decor | Chicken and Waffle Cornbread - I heard from friends that the perfect appetizer for the table here was cornbread. It did not disappoint. Growing up in a house with family from Chicago and New Orleans -- I've had my fair share of amazing cornbread. I would put Red Rooster's up with anyone. You must get this for your table. Decor - The overall decor and vibe were great. The overall ambiance is great, an homage to its history as a mainstay in the black community during segregation. The music they played in the background was ideal - a lot of mid-90s to current R&B that was loud enough to hear but not so loud that you couldn't have a conversation. Chicken and Waffles - I had the chicken and waffles. It was substantial but messy -- definitely, not a meal for a date or a business meeting. It is hard to eat because the bone is in. Therefore, you have to eat it by hand. The chicken was tasty, and you had more chicken than waffles, so the food/price ratio is in your favor. I would probably try a different meal if I went back because they had a good amount of options that sounded intriguing. Pro Tip - make a reservation if you go for lunch on a Saturday or Sunday. Pro Tip - they have a good amount of street parking. So, you don't need to uber if you don't have to.

The food was good. However, all of the food for our table did not come at the same time. When it did come, it was cold. One dish was described as one way and it showed up as a "salad" on top of pasta. The deviled eggs were good. I had the honey salmon and it was delicious. Overall, it was just an average experience. The service was ok as well. Nothing special.

As a local, when I heard Marcus from Chopped was opening up a restaurant I knew it was a must try! And I was right! The atmosphere transports you to another place and decade. All the food we got was beyond delicious. The service was amazing! Our waiter Henry was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations There is parking behind the restaurant. If you’re thinking about it just do it! I can’t recommend this place enough.

Red Rooster Overtown is celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson's first Miami-area restaurant, and our first sampling of any Chef Samuelsson's many restaurant. Located in a charming part of Historic Overtown, it's easy to get to (via I-95, or State Hwy 836) and has a huge adjacent parking lot (with on-site Valet Parking readily available). The exterior is can't miss "RED ROOSTER" in lights, and the interior is very stylish (bar, lobby, and interior restaurant). There's nicely socially distanced interior tables, and adjacent outdoor (partially covered) patio seating. Service is highly professional, and very good. We tried the following food items: Margarita - very good The Dame cocktail - overly sweet red wine and honey/whiskey cocktail - I would order something different next time Cornbread w/ mild jalapeno butter - hot, fresh, moist, tasty! - great for sharing for 3-4 people Fried green tomatoes served over green goddess dressing - spicy and tasty! Fried Yard Bird - hot, crispy, spicy, drizzled with honey DELICIOUS MUST TRY fried chicken - 1 leg and 2 thighs dark meat only serving - yum!! We substituted hearty rich Mac & Cheese ($3 extra) in lieu of pigeon peas side dish Grilled Coastal Fish - branzino on this night - served with spicy herbs, salsa, avocado, and sweet coconut tea - a delicious entree Chocolate chip cookie skillet - hot, moist cookie baked in a square pan, served with vanilla ice cream and homemade whipped cream - great for 3-4 people - yum! All-in-all, our very first visit to a Chef Marcus Samuelsson restaurant was a great success -- the food, service, and ambiance were all VERY good! This is a definitely a new Miami-area (Historic Overtown) hot spot -- I'd highly recommend, and will DEFINITELY be back!!

First time visiting and we traveled 3 1/2 hours from Key West to come specifically to this restaurant. I was not pleased that we had to pay $15 for parking next to the restaurant for less than 2 hours. However, this place was extremely cool and the ambiance was perfect. The hostess sat us at a table immediately. Our server was excellent. He gave us an overview of the restaurant and answered all questions regarding our food choices. We started out with the Deviled eggs. They were wonderful. Our main courses consisted of the Bucatini Picadilly and the Hot Honey Scottish Salmon. Disappointed with both dishes. The rice within the Salmon dish was either lukewarm or cold and hard. The salmon itself was very good but extremely small for the price. The Bucatini was flavorful, however, it was warm and not hot. Would I recommend the restaurant to others, Yes. Do I need to go back again, No.
A Different Overtown
Anyone familiar with true Overtown knows this neighborhood can be varied to say the least. Upon entering the Red Rooster, you become transported to a new Overtown. The vibe was amazing! Beautiful restaurant and great music from a live DJ. We ordered the cornbread and fritters both very good. The sauce that accompanies the fritters was amazing, literally finger licking good. My friend’s mom ordered the fried chicken. It was crispy and succulent. My friend and I split the oxtail and boy oh boy. Let’s start with the fact that it’s the entire tail of wagyu beef and end with the gorgeous presentation. The only thing I’ll say is the sauce isn’t one traditionally paired with oxtail but good none the less. The most tender meat as well! The restaurant was an experience from beginning to end.
