Post Alamo tour lunch along the river walk

By Linda A |

Great spot right along the riverwalk. The food was very good and the service was excellent. I had a cup of tortilla soup which was a little on the spicy side but good and a brisket sandwich which to me was just okay. The highlight of the lunch was when the strolling singers came by and played us a few tunes.

Overrated

By f02301 |

Underwhelmed by the food and service. There are much better restaurants on the riverwalk. Fajitas were dry and chewy. Margaritas were overpriced. Can’t recommend anything about this place.

Good service along River Walk

By Jason_W_in_Indiana |

Stopped here for a couple of appetizers while enjoying the River Walk. They have dining inside, but the tables outside along the river are where you should choose to sit since that's the whole appeal to this area. It was a pretty hot afternoon, but they had umbrellas set up to protect us from the heat of the sun. We ordered the Supreme Nachos ($11.99 - tostada chips covered in beans and cheese) and the Triple Dipper ($13.99 - queso, guac, salsa). Neither necessarily stood out as amazing food offerings, but our server Hector was very good at taking care of us and having a table along the river as well as people watching those doing the River Walk were enough to rate this a 4 star visit.

Quick bite to eat

By Wtravelers2120 |

This is a very convenient location. We were looking for a quick bite to eat at an off time and found what we were looking for at this restaurant. Service was good and fast. Food was very good.

Leisurely Dinner on the RiverWalk

By Stan M |

My wife and I enjoyed our walks along the river in San Antonio. We stopped at this restaurant to enjoy drinks. I opted for a tall draft, while she enjoyed a raspberry margarita. We watched the boats cruise by, telling the stories of the area. We shared a queso dip appetizer. I decided that I needed to order a sandwich. We chose the cordon blue chicken with a side of fries. The sandwich was great. It had very good grilled flavor. Gabriel, our waiter, checked on us often. The staff was polite and friendly. There is a lot of foot traffic near this section, but our seats next to the river's edge were ideal.

Very Good

By Michael B |

We enjoyed our meal here very much. Staff was very good , food was very good It was beautiful being able to sit out along the riverwalk to eat.

Good place to eat, not great.

By TheAboutExperience |

This was good place eat right on the Riverwalk, but don't expect it to be something special. There is places to eat outside, directly next to the river, or inside, but word of caution, you'll either be fighting the birds outside or the moldy, wet carpet smell the inside has. Either way, nothing a few drinks can't overcome. The food was good and the staff was friendly. I recommend the Texas Catfish plate with an Old Fashion. If you've never been, stop by a check it out yourself and see how it compares to other restaurants on the Riverwalk.

Truly One of the Worst!!

By Tastefullycoco - The Simple Treasures |

I cannot find anything positive to say about this restaurant. The wait was horrendous and after a very long wait in which I saw several people who came later get seated before me. I was only seated when I inquired and told I would be next to see someone else seated before me. The food is probably the very worst I have ever tasted. I ordered fajitas and thought that would be very safe. They had no flavor at all and were chewy and I could barely swallow them. The beans had no flavor as well and tasted like paste. The margarita was also tasteless and was basically just a large drink of sour mix. Of course, the overworked staff was barely present and I barely saw my waiter. It was busy and draws a crowd only because of the location along the Riverwalk.

bad experience, bad food, excellent seating, good variety for kids

By Rachel H |

Oh, so many things to say about my experience. I will start with the 2 good parts about our visit. 1st My picky-eater kids actually liked the food. 2nd the river-side seating is excellent BUT, there are a lot of restaurants with seating on the river. So, I'm not sure that can even be counted as a plus. When I arrived, I asked if they had any river side seating, maybe you're not supposed to ask because our server acted like it was inconvenient to even check. I imagine most people want to be seated river-side so I'm not sure why we got a bad look when I asked. Then it took a long time for her to come back and get our drink orders. When we got our drinks we ordered our food. I thought things would go okay when she mentioned the flautas were really good after I ordered them. But, my kids started whining, which is usual when kids are hungry. But after a while of saying "I'm sure your food will come soon" you begin to wonder how long it's been. I looked at a picture I took a few minutes after we were seated and it had been 54 minutes. We'd been there for almost an hour with only one check, during which she brought my kids a drink refill. I set a timer in my head and if we didn't get our food in 6 minutes we were going to leave. She showed up 2 minutes later, I expressed my disappointment and let her know we'd been here an hour and it shouldn't have taken this long. She replied with "You came at the wrong time." I can't remember what I said, but really? Really? We came at 3:30 in the afternoon. The food it's self was mediocre at best. My plate came with my food only lukewarm, and the beans looked dried and cracked on top, much like pictures of cracked mud in a dried lake bed. I just stirred them up and ate them anyways, but the flavor tasted canned. The rice was a just as dry but the flavor was okay. The flautas came soggy in the middle and cold. I'm almost certain our plates sat on a counter for 30 minutes before coming to our table. Oh, 1 more good thing, the salsa and chips were actually pretty tasty. I ate some of that with my beans and it helped. Maybe our server was having a bad day, but judging from the reviews, I'm not sure it's a one off thing, seems to be something that is common here. I feel bad because I felt like I wasted my one opportunity at dining on the river walk experience. It was not worth it, and I'm still feeling upset about it over a week later. Summary: bad experience, bad food, excellent seating, good variety for kids. I tipped 15% because I understand this is her job and she did her job, albeit POORLY.

Great for a quick bite

By KompassionateDr |

We hd lunch here to kill time before our Riverwalk boat tour. I am glad we stumbled into this establishment. For lunch my husband had the brisket sandwich with fries and I had the grilled chicken salad with ranch dressing. The plate portions for both were huge. I see why they say "everything in Texas is bigger." The prices were very reasonable. We left extremly satisfied and full.

Scenery Better Than Food

By Tonick43 |

Went there for lunch & we both had the fried shrimp. When it came to the table, we were both disappointed to see that it was obviously a frozen product rather than freshly prepared. It was advertised as battered but was clearly breaded.

I won’t ever return

By a Google U |

The only good thing I can say is that I was seated very quickly. Now I know why. The fajitas were bland and not sizzling hot at all. Every Tex/Mex place I’ve ever been to before offered chips and salsa. The waiter never offered. The margarita was extremely weak! This was not a good Tex/Mex dinner!

Republic doesn’t get my vote

By Dave P |

I recently ate at Republic of Texas and most everything we had was on the FAIR meter. My wife, Mom and Cousin met there for drinks and food. Servers were there that’s about it, the food was a poor try at Tex Mex food as most of the plates were bland. Great atmosphere as you are right in the Riverwalk now they just need their establishment to step it up a bit.

Good food

By Elizabeth B |

We enjoyed the food and service was great. We were eating outside, when it started raining. Server helped us to indoor table.

Good Casual Eats

By Selena S |

Every other restaurant was busy along the Riverwalk and this one wasn't. I was a little worried about this but once inside and the waiter brought my drink, I knew it was ok. The atmosphere was not fancy but the food was good. The chef made a vegetarian dish for me. My husband ordered steak and it was very good per him!

Gotta Get the Fajitas

By toddl15 |

Went to the River Walk on our first night. As you walk beside the river, there is a restaurant ever 30 feet. Most seem to Mexican food. You can eat inside or outside. We chose the Republic of Texas out of sheer confusion and uncertainty. (It is next to Mr. Ice Cream) It was great. My wife and I shared the chili con queso appetizer. It came with a mound of chips, cheese and salsa. You could get beef or chicken in the queso, but we just stuck with cheese. For dinner, we get the fajita combo, which came with beef and chicken. We split the combo in what arrived I was worried that it wouldn’t be enough food. It was a plate of beans and rice, a side of pico, lettuce and sour cream, and a small cast-iron skillet of beef and chicken fajitas. You gotta get the fajitas. They are really good and it was plenty for both of us. It came with tortillas. Both of us were able to have two full tortillas stuffed with fajitas. The appetizer was $7.99 and the fajitas were $16.99. With a Diet Coke and a water our bill came to $30 before tip a really good meal at a reasonable price.

Good atmosphere

By DavidByk |

We went for lunch and it was mixed. We ordered a burger along with a jalapeño and onion appetizer. After a wait we were told they were out of the appetizer and at that point we just split the burger which was ok not great. The best part of the whole thing is just sitting by the water and enjoying the riverwalk.

Nothing to Write Home About

By TexasTravelorR |

We were on the Riverwalk for Christmas and I wanted to eat at Casa Rio, the oldest Mexican food place on the river but it was full. The Republic had room so we ate there. The "whipped cream" on my Pina Colada was Cool Whip type- hydrogenated fats and not real whipped cream. The avocado was canned or frozen but not fresh. We will not go back.

Great Place to Hang Out on the River Walk

By iammarilyn |

My "Man Friend" and I spent 3 days at a Hotel on the the River Walk between Christmas and New Years. We happened to stop at this restaurant for drinks and appetizers and ended up spending any extra time we had enjoying this fun place. We thought the drinks were superb and the combo appetizer plate was awesome. We had the pleasure of meeting owner/manager Will , who was most hospitable and made us feel at home!! The bartenders were great and a lot of fun. We sat at the bar and found the bartenders very attentive and the drinks delicious!! This will be our "go to" place next time we take a trip to San Antonio.

WE HAD A BAD SERVER

By Hiker1942 |

Stopped in for lunch.and a brew. The place had plenty of open tables and our server showed up quickly to take drink orders. After we got our drinks it was like hide and seek trying to find our waiter so we could order. He finally showed up and we ordered. Once the food arrived we asked him for some condiments and he said "right away". Well after we were well into our meals we grabbed a busboy and we had condiments within seconds (still no sign of our waiter). They should promote the busboy to wait staff immediately. Once finished, who should show up with the check....you guessed it. Food was very good, but our waiter was very bad!

great atmosphere, good food, but spicy sauce

By Gena R |

Eating along the river is charming, and the meat was good. But I specifically mentioned that I didn't like spicy food, and the meat was smothered in a spicy bbq sauce. The waiter tried too hard (a bit obnoxious, obviously trying to a bigger tip) -- and if I had more time I would have sent the meal back for sauce on the side. Prepare to be rushed in and rushed out since there are few tables along the river, but it is a beautiful setting.

The perfect lunch

By Myrudybear |

We sat outside right on the river and it was gorgeous. All the people that worked there were super friendly and the food was delicious. I had cilantro chicken and it was out of this world.

Average chain restaurant

By Heather H |

Nothing to write home about. Many better places to eat don't wait your money. Two people ordered the BBQ and couldn't eat it. Margaritas were watered down.

Atmosphere was very cool, seated very quickly, vibes were great. Monica was super friendly and very sweet. Top notch bartender

Terrible Everything Experience.

By The Beer Man |

We went to San Antonio for our 25th wedding anniversary. The weekend was going great until we decided to have dinner at the Republic of Texas Restaurant on the Riverwalk. We should have known we were in for a bad experience when they sat us at a dirty table. There is nothing worse than putting your arm on a sticky table top. It took several requests before someone finally cleaned it for us. The experience went downhill from there. We ordered two dishes to share. One was their fajitas. We asked how many tortillas came with it as it was not a dish for two. We were told four and were only given three. We had to ask for the 4th tortilla. We also ordered their Brisket & Sausage Combo Plate. The Brisket was lunch meat with sauce on it. We had better brisket in the breakfast taco from Buc-ee's on the drive over! I ordered a beer which was never served. We do not recommend this restaurant.

Crazy Pablo

By Kaye G |

Best waiter ever! Never ran out of beer!!!! Food is great, service awesome. Outside seating is comfortable and entertaining.👍

Disappointing

By Crystal W |

Ribeye was well cooked but minimal flavor. Prefer only salt and pepper, but it was close to bland. The roll was grocery store quality, & the potatoes were room temp. The burger had no Mayo, no side of Mayo, ketchup, or mustard with zero flavor. Service was average. Brought the wrong drinks, Sprite and margarita on the rocks. Had to ask for a Dr Pepper that my daughter ordered and why the margarita was not frozen. When the waiter inquired, he was told the margarita machine was not working. Also, not working was the tablet used to pay for dinner. Had to find one that worked. He was kind and not rude, but expected better quality and decent food, which was not the case. I expected more from a family owned restaurant.

Great Place to Dine!

By Lupita V |

It was my first time in this restaurant, and the food was geat! Our waitress Monica was a geat, she was polite and courteous and answered all our questions about the menu. I would recommend this place to everyone the atmosphere is great and the location is the best!

Enjoyed a wonderful meal with my wife over Labor Day weekend! Had a fabulous meal with drinks 🎉 Arrived and was seated immediately in a hospitable atmosphere with sincere employees 🇨🇱❤️

Nice Mexican Restaurant on the Riverwalk

By Yusuf M |

The restaurant is located on the famous Riverwalk. Tables are available outside facing the river. We ordered Triple Dipper containing Salsa, Gaucamole and Queso with unlimited chips. All the three were excellent. For main course we ordered Cilantro Chicken Breast and Enchilada Verde. Both were excellent. The chicken breast was soft and moist and very flavorful. Enchiladas were excellent with chicken filling. The server was very helpful in suggesting various dishes and the service was prompt. The price of each item was very reasonable.

Dont come and take it

By Kenneth B |

I ordered sausage plate. in Texas if you serve BBO and want a good rating don't throw a package of eckridge in a pan and serve that. I am sure that is what i got. The beans and potato salad also had a packaged taste to me. Very Expensive for what i got. Weak tea. won't be back. Also attacked by birds as we sat outside.

It's a good stop for drinks and/or food along the Riverwalk.

By James60933 |

Service was GREAT! Super quick compared to many of the other restaurants along the riverwalk. Martin is a fantastic bartender and very friendly!

Down Home Food

By Elaine F |

Traditional down home menu of burgers, BBQ and dinner plates served on the Riverwalk. Food was good and plentiful.

We only did drinks and dessert - it was very good!

By Judi M |

Vacation trip to the River Walk. On the bucket list for the trip was to sit under the colorful umbrellas by the river and eat. As it happened, we got a later start and it turned out to be just drinks and dessert. The seating outside looked like it might be a long wait - the sidewalks on both sides of the river were packed with people. But we were willing to sit sidewalk side rather than river edge so we were seated within a few minutes. The table next to us was celebrating a birthday, so we got the benefit of the roving mariachi singers. It was great. I honestly don't know how the servers manage to do such a great job. Every step of their job is dodging people who are walking along between the buildings and the riverside tables. But they do it and they do it expertly and with a smile. Our service was great and the desserts were over-the-top delicious. As we left, the waitress invited us into the "club" which was just starting, but we declined. Maybe next time!

Good

By Angel-Trails |

Location and atmosphere of this restaurant was pleasant. You can order almost everything and it is very good. We had supreme nachos for appetizers and then Chicken Fajitas and beef enchiladas both very good. Enjoy!! don't forget the Margarita, delish

Good food, good service.

By B-GEnjoyingLife |

We had great seats next to the railing of the Riverwalk. We both had ribs which were very good and the sides were good as well. The service was good as was the Margarita.

So-So

By Kirk F |

Great service - fast and with a smile. The cocktails were very good, however the food was just average

Great Riverfront Place

By PMB8210 |

Good food, good prices for the river and great service. Had the catfish and it was wunnerful! Eclectic Texas menu. Would definitely go back.

It was just OK

By Merranda M |

We had a party of 8 on December 19 and everyone was pretty much in agreement that this place is just ok. The service was truly wonderful and the atmosphere fun, but for the price, the food was just average.

Better places on the river walk

By Paul L |

I came here as it wasn't too busy and had a seat by the River. Server obviously not pleased I was a party of one! Ordered a large Margarita and the Buffalo wings. Margarita was very poor. Weak and watery. Buffalo wings were good. Left a $6 tip on a $30 bill despite the server being frosty. Server Debra V very displeased and rude, telling me to just "throw my tip on the table."

Failure to Lunch

By Mr. S |

Got seated right away and then ignored for 30 minutes. Never even got a chance to order food. Only saw 2 servers, but there were 2 ladies happy to find a seat for you. Poorly run place.

Nice place

By Gerald B |

We stopped in here for a drink and were not disappointed. Service was excellent. Although we did not eat here due to having a large late breakfast, the food looked and smelled good with large portions.

Great food - Great location

By Jotum |

This is right on the Riverwalk with quite a few tables on the edge of the water. My wife got a chicken dish with a lot of vegetables which she really enjoyed. I had the catfish which was delicious. They have a nice varied menu with lots of good sounding items to choose from. Although I think the mask mandate has been lifted, all the wait staff still wore masks.

Something for everyone!

By Allyson M |

This restaurant had something for everyone and even though we were a big group, the service was amazing. It was during an evening service, but we had an intimate room to ourselves. I had the chicken fried steak and it was delicious.

Reasonable bar on the Riverwalk

By Meet-the-Furkids |

Popped in here to cool off with a refreshing beer. Prices were reasonable and the ambience not too bad. Unfortunately there was no space to sit outside when we visited as it would’ve been nice to sit under an umbrella watching the world go bar. We only had drinks, so can’t comment on the food.

Great service and food

By KaiUWulff |

One of my regular stops in San Antonio. I have the feeling they have gotten even better. Our waitress was outstanding, fodd was 100% as ordered and came hot, fresh and fast.

Great Location, Lousy Food

By Pink P |

Located right on the River Walk, brighly painted, with tables alongside the water, this seemed like the perfect setting to enjoy some authentic tex-mex food. But it was a huge disappointment. I ordered the BBQ platter and without doubt it was the worst tasting BBQ sauce I've ever had. Period. With so many other options available, I would not go back again, nor could I recommend it,

Awesome service and fantastic food!

By bankssean |

Down to earth Texas style restaurant, our server was on the spot and funny. The food tasted fantastic and there so much I needed a doggy bag. After our first visit we returned 2 more times to dine and for cocktails in our 6 day stay in San Antonio, and we look forward to visiting RoT next time we are in town.

Not bad, not great

By Natalie W |

Nice happy hour prices, but be careful if you add a flavor to your margarita they charge $1 for that. . Good service. The food is OK. I enjoyed my chicken nachos. My son had a burger and he said it was good. I’m sure there are better options but it was good in a hurry. I would not go here for mexican. There are 3 options on the menu. When you google them it pops up as Mexican Cuisine.

Great Margaritas and Riverwalk view

By ILuvToTravelUSA |

We were looking for a place away from the heat to people watch and have a drink. Republic of Texas fit the bill. We had Republic Margaritas which were excellent. We sat right on the water with a pretty view of the bridge. It was cool, quiet, and relaxing on a hot afternoon.

Good, solid, inexpensive meal

By Bill O |

Great service, good food, wonderful atmosphere. Their brisket is great. You won't be disappointed in this restaurant right on the Riverwalk!

A pleasant surprise

By Stefan C |

I arrived on a flight from the East Coast for a conference starting the next morning. I was staying on the Riverwalk and just wanted some simple TexMex nearby. I saw this place and took a table by the water. It had "touristy" written all over it, and the menu was just simple, standard TexMex, which is just what I was looking for. The surprise was that it was really good! Tasty, fresh, ample with crispy chips and salsa. For what it is, it could not have been better.

Weekday 2:00

By cedar4604 |

Hot and hungry. This was a cool stop on a hot afternoon with a 5 year old in tow. The service was quick, the food was good, and the prices were reasonable for the river walk.

Good, noisy

By horsecountrygirl2014 |

We ate here for lunch. Very busy, wait was about 20 minutes (at 2pm) to get seated. The food was good. The atmosphere is very noisy. The space is very crowded...we had elderly parents with us, so also keep in mind there are steps and the floors are uneven in places. The staff is friendly and attentive.

Relaxing

By Arielle |

I had been walking along the River Walk after my river cruise, and couldn’t really decide on food. I had Mexican the past two nights, so I wanted to eat something different. I decided to go to Republic of Texas and get BBQ, the food was okay. I was honestly just happy to chillax and sit, I had been walking for about 2 miles prior to this and prior to the river cruise 😂 would probably try something different if I were to go again.

Terrible Fajitas

By JustKelly2 |

Very disappointed, especially since it smelled wonderful each time we walked by. I ordered chicken fajitas. When they came out they were in a little skillet, but not sizzling and absolutely no aroma of being right of the grill. The chicken was large pieces, like a breast sliced in 4 pieces, and bland, no spice at all. The onions and peppers were overcooked to the point of being mushy and no flavor left. Service was ok, when asked how everything was I let him know it was not good. He sent the manager over. He offered to remake it "the way it was supposed to be", I decline and he took it off the bill. I did notice at least half a dozen more fajitas orders come from the kitchen and they all looked identical.

Tasty Tex-Mex and burgers!

By Moved2Texas |

We came to the Riverwalk for dinner and came to the Republic of Texas restaurant to accommodate some differing tastes. This restaurant has Tex-Mex, BBQ, comfort food and burgers. Based on our party’s experience, everything is good! Jared was our server and did a great job. The food was fairly quick coming to our table and was well made. I had the enchiladas verde (green sauce) which came with Spanish rice and refried beans. It was very good and hit the spot!

Impress Me is Texas

By The O’Neals |

Overall good; seating was quick. I would eat here again. However, compared to other River Walk options, it almost feels like the ingredients are not as fresh. Not bad, just think Tyson frozen chicken v fresh fajitas. The queso and salsa also good, but just not blowing me away - like I expected in Texas. The waiter also tried to seat us outside and we “lost him” so we went back to hosting area and sat inside.

Dinner on the Riverwalk!

By 1scrappyRN |

If your in a hurry don’t eat here. It is sit down dining with normal sit down dinner wait times. Food was good. Mainly a burger/bbq place it seemed to me. Kids menu so so. The only downfall was getting the check. It took forever to get paid out. I did notice we were not the only table with this issue! Unsure what that was about as we had different servers???

Desserts and Drinks

By Jenifer A |

After a late lunch, we just decided to have desserts and drinks. The peach cobbler was warm. The brownie a la mode was very rich. Drinks were good, we did have to wait for our server but there were lots of large parties on a Saturday night.

Buzz kill

By mtl18 |

Beautiful views of gulf! Most servers, including the manager who eventually took care of us looked like they were attentive. Our server in the bar was horrible! Food was not good either. We ordered 3 different appetizers off their happy hour menu and they were all bad. Maybe the restaurant is better. Hostess said that no tables were available until 8:30 pm when we arrived at 6 pm. We sat in the bar until 7 pm and they literally sat 3 of over 30 available tables during that time! The place was empty! And it was a Saturday. Stay away from this one unless you are just looking for a good view and drink at the bar. Restaurant food might be better? It is certainly expensive.

Amazing service!!!

By Sherry823 |

We were a group of 24, but we were seated promptly. Our waitress did an amazing job getting our orders and refilling ours drinks and checking in on us. The kitchen and waitress got all of our 24 orders to all 24 of us so we could all eat at the same time. (The last table was served within 5 minutes of the 1st table.) Very impressive. I was bummed that my burger was overcooked, but the folks that ordered the Cilantro chicken loved it.

Good dinner

By 338Concerned |

Went here for dinner with family. Everyone enjoyed their food. The drinks were good and cold too!! Our server was informative and had a great sense of humor. I really enjoyed the Brisket & Sausage Combo Plate. The others had different things from shrimp to burgers to chicken and they all said it was good.

We chose this place for the availability of a Bison burger !

By Stephen H |

We came to this location on our honeymoon to enable my wife to try a Bison burger. She loved it. There is a noticeable difference to a beef burger - try it. I selected a delicious chicken dish too which I thoroughly enjoyed. The location on the Riverwalk makes this a desirable place to eat. The Riverwalk is, in and of itself, a great part of the city withy if an amble at the very least The food was delightful. The staff were very friendly - a common features across Texas - and efficient. My wife loves the 'Come and take it' message you see regularly around the Alamo. The restaurant does a T shirt with that comment but with their location which she felt gave it more relevance and so she bought one. The staff were helpful and friendly sorting that too. Fine dining with is not. Tasty food at a reasonable price it is. Go back ? If we find ourselves there again I believe we will be back.

good craft beer selection on the riverwalk

By Judy Z |

Great service. Irene was the best. The bartender was new and we wanted to know which of their IPA's had the highest ibu (bitterness rating). She went and found the manager who had gone into a meeting so she could make a recommendation. The Stash IPA was recommended and was excellent. When we ordered the bacon bleu cheese burger medium rare, she said if we liked rare burgers, then we could really appreciate the Japanese beef, so we ordered the Akaushi burger with the addition of bacon and bleu cheese. She was right - it was excellent. The atmosphere is fun with tin ceilings and Texas décor. A cool escape from the heat of the Riverwalk.

Promote Sean; he’s cool.

By PiratewannaB |

To start, Sean is an awesome dude. He was working as a host, but started to bus our table on the Riverwalk, after we had been waiting 20+ minutes, like a phenomenal employee should. This is the kind of dude you want as a manager. Given it was crazy busy, and we had a long wait time, it was a high point. We ordered country fried steak and fried catfish; it was excellent! No regrets. Check this place out- you will not regret it.

Restaurant on the Riverwalk

By lucianacordoba |

We had a very nice lunch, Coco attended us very well! The food was good, and the atmosphere is beautiful, facing the Riverwalk.

Dinner on the Riverwalk!

By Victoria C |

Our table was right next to the Riverwalk. Awesome view / atmosphere. It was just reaching twilight. Xmas lights a little too early. Meal was yummy: brisket sandwich, side of ribs, taco salad, and burgers. Margaritas and wine good.

Stopped twice. It was good

By Jennifer L |

We stopped here for drinks and once fr9 dinner on a girls trip. We came at happy hour. So the margaritas were only $4. They were tasty too. I got the peach mango. It was excellent or waitress was really friendly too. Then we came back the next day for dinner. Our waiter was good. He was really attentive. Our food was pretty good. I ordered the ribs, potatoes salad, slaw and beans. It was a lot of food. Everyone else liked what the ordered as well. One of the better meals we had while in San Antonio.

Best server on the river walk

By scottr1960 |

The best server by far on our 5 day trip is named Irene. Attentive, informative and makes everyone of her tables feel like they are part of her family. Greatly enhanced the experience at the restaurant as well as help make our trip memorable. Ask for her if you stop by. The food and drinks are reasonable in price and pretty tasty.

Huge Mistake

By TrailTrekker15 |

My friend and I stopped by the Republic of Texas for a couple of snacks while we toured the Riverwalk and the Alamo. The location was conveniently located right at one of the entry points to the Riverwalk. We walked up and decided to give it a try getting a table outside by the river. The server took over 15 min just to come take our drink order. We almost left and I wish we had. Finally she came over and took some other people’s order who came after us then our order. We ordered nachos and queso. The nachos were terrible. They did not put jalapeños on it and the ground beef was very poor quality. The chips were not tasty. The cheese queso reminded us of packaged Velveeta and was not good. Both of us did not feel very well after that food. The price was outrageous as well. Nachos, queso, and two sodas ran us up to $30. That was excessive even for that area. Do your research ahead and pick a good restaurant. Avoid Republic of Texas!

Good Food, Good Service, Great Atmosphere and Views.....

By pparrothead |

My wife and I recently visited San Antonio for the second time. On our first full day there we headed over to the Riverwalk to check out the shops, restaurants and of course the beautiful scenery. When we were ready for lunch we checked out a few restaurants menus and then decided on the Republic of Texas. There were a couple of tables right along the edge of the water so we were seated pretty quickly. It was a beautiful day and the scenery was to amazing to eat inside. My wife ordered the Garden Veggie Quesadilla and I the El Pollo Rojo, two chicken enchiladas. I had a Lone Star beer ( how appropriate ) and she had some Sangria. The food was very good and a nice sized portion and our server was Daniel M. and he was very pleasant and helpful. All in all we both enjoyed our first meal back on the Riverwalk. The Republic of Texas was a very good first choice for us.

Best Ribs on the River Walk

By lisapV1649QR |

The ribs were very meaty and the sauce is an amazing blend of spicy and rich flavors. I liked the potato salad and cole slaw side dishes too. Fresh and flavorful. The chicken sandwich and fries were pretty good too.

Paul’s place

By roxyloraine |

After spending the day exploring the river walk, my husband and I wanted a light lunch on the water. We were greeted and seated right away and served by Paul. In addition to the perfect view and unexpectedly monster sized drinks (everything really is bigger in Texas), Paul’s energy and humor made the experience worth telling friends about. We asked if the nachos were big and thought Paul was kidding when he said, “no you only get twelve” but sure enough when the order came out there were only 12 nachos each dressed with toppings. The drinks were so big that we didn’t leave hungry. While the food wasn’t anything worth writing home about, we’d come back for drinks as long as Paul was our server again.

Good but spicy!

By karendg1210 |

We arrived at almost closing time. The staff was very friendly & helpful. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. The food was good except a little to spicy for my taste. The waiter assured me what I ordered was not too spicy but for someone who has issues with spicy food, it was a little too much lol. I would eat there again but not the sauce they used.

Riverwalk Dinner

By Mike M |

After a long day of plane travel, our group of 6 settled on eating at Republic of Texas. We were lucky enough to get a table right on the riverwalk. Service was good and all of the food was excellent except my brisket sandwich. It was very under whelming. Others in my group got street tacos, salsa verde enchiladas, & grilled chicken salad and theirs were all excellent. The drinks were great as well. Be sure to bring your wallet as everything on the riverwalk is severely overpriced.

Great atmosphere

By Janet B |

Good Texan restaurant decent food staff helpful and friendly. Quite reasonably priced live DJ and karaoke

Disappointing

By JohnS1026 |

They invited us for breakfast just before 11am Sunday morning. Once seated they said no breakfast just lunch. It was freezing doors open to attract more folks in They are more interested in getting customers in the door than service. Only three tables at 11 but 45 to get food. Although the special A burger from Japan was very good, one of us had a bacon cheeseburger that was bad. Very over cooked and charcoal and we did not have option on how to cook it. Sent it gave and they did not charge but geez this is Burger place. Kept walking off the river walk. Weak service and limited customer attention

Pricing issues

By FullThrottle64 |

I had lunch here with a group of co-workers when we were in town for a trade convention. While the food was good, it was a bit over-priced. However, their pricing practices are inexcusable, The menu states that chips and salsa are extra at $1.99. This is unusual for a Tex-Mex restaurant, but not enough to earn a weak review by itself. Trouble is, when we ordered them, we were presented with a plate with a small dish of salsa and 5 chips for 4 people. When we asked for more chips, she brought a small handful more after a long wait. Even after this I would call the amount unusually small for a table of four people. The trouble is that on our bill we were charged $2.99 (50% more than the menu stated), and we were charged for it TWICE. This is simply not OK

Great service!!

By Pattiehusfit&happy |

Our team of 13 went out for a dinner on the riverwalk in San Antonio last Friday. As you might imagine, Friday night on the river gets pretty darn busy! Anyway, we found a restaurant to accommodate 13 of us at one table! When we all got seated, our server Barbra quickly arrived. We proceeded to ask that dreaded question…would it be ok if we had separate checks. Her answer was a bubbly and energetic “YES of course”! She proceeded to promptly deliver our waters, drink orders then quickly circled back around to take our food orders. With a BIG smile she wrote down our orders and said YES to all our special requests! Double veggies no rice? Sure! Sauce on the side? Sure! Substitute this for that? Sure! Absolutely honey…she said more than once! I was impressed! She was not flustered at all by our table size or special requests. When the food arrived it was SPOT ON, hot and yummy! She nailed it when most would struggle with even much smaller parties! She offered to take our picture and that bubbly energy and enthusiasm never left her face. When our checks arrived they were also 100% correct. There wasn’t even that 18% gratuity for large parties added on like most Florida restaurants tack on! Seriously! We ALL felt our server Barbra at The Republic of Texas earned WAY more! And she got it! And yep, I found the manager so I could praise her on behalf of our table…as well as leaving a positive on line review.

Reliable spot on the Riverwalk

By compton49er |

We had a late lunch. Republic is a reliable bar and grill. Service was friendly. Portions are good for the price. I had the grilled chicken with cilantro sauce. The dish was super. The sauce would be good on anything.

Terrible

By sanlorenzo153 |

The chips were fried in old oil and tasted awful. The French Fries were also fried in old oil and tested like they used the oil to fry something else. The Fries were soggy and old. I ordered a med-well steak and I got one almost rare. The service was unimpressive.

Average restaurant

By nowzer |

This is really about the location. The wait for outside seating was over an hour, so we sat inside. Food was just ok. The steak fajitas were much better than the chicken, the chicken had no taste. Brisket was dry, and was drenched in BBQ sauce.

Wonderful venue—very pleasant.

By kevinlives |

Service was excellent—Food good. Venue fantastic. Enjoyed the live music coming from across the river. Sat in the little room overlooking the river and the outdoor searting. It’s the place to be! Open windows, pleasant scene for view, sound, people and boat watching. It was a perfect scene. Had the brisket. Not bad. Coleslaw good. The potato salad was OUTSTANDING.—homemade and nearly perfect. (Only my wife’s and mother’s are better) Good Smokey beans. Bread roll and margarine? Meh. We loved our visit and hope to do it again.

Looking for a nice place to people watch along the riverwalk and enjoy some delicious BBQ? This is a good choice.

Excellent service from Millie J, and simply delicious ribs, along with a nice view of the riverwalk made for a great evening!

Great service

I came in to dine and James was out server. He provided a spectacular service, will definitely be coming back to this place!

Good and enjoyable dinner on the Riverwalk

By Roberto S |

I gave it 3 because it’s good (not average, nor very good> it’s 3.5 for good.) It’s a tourist spot. The dinner was good, the plates were plentiful. The service is correct (American style): simple and efficient without fuss. Dinner on the terrace is pleasant along the Riverwalk.

Great spot on the riverwalk.

By Wynn R |

Had a wonderful meal here after the riverwalk cruise. I had the BBQ brisket and loved it,. Fed a few fries to the ducks. The potato salad was very tasty as well. A very nice location and a calming experience.

Great location sh1t food

By GerryBerkshire |

Chicken tasted like cardboard. Beef was cold and thin sliced. Confused why anybody eats here. Not surprised that they have tables available. Steer well clear!!!!

Casual good food in nice setting.

By podrozniczka60 |

Historic but casual and unpretentious restaurant, beautifully located on the Riverwalk. The food was good and I forcefully but pleasantly serenaded by a Mariachi group. Good choice.

AMAZING BBQ

By clucumber |

We stopped by for lunch today, our server was Eugene and he was very helpful explaining the different plates available. My hubby had the sausage plate and I had the brisket plate, came with charro beans, potato salad and cole slaw. The portions were more than enough and the meat very tender - smoked in house! The potato salad was as good as my sisters and she makes the best in my opinion! The Charro beans were delectable! The waiter said the woman who makes them has been doing so for over 20 years and it tasted so! YUMMY! The table next to us had burgers and they were so tall we laughed wondering how on earth they would wrap their mouths around them. I would highly recommend you give this place a try when on the river walk!

Broken Heart of a Old Customer

By Debra T |

Brought some friends who were visiting from Costa Rica. As a local, I often make this a regular stop as I enjoy the variety they offer on the riverwalk however...NOT this time. You see, upon being seated in a lovely location and as my friends husband and I were trying to decide if we wanted a beer or margarita; his wife stated to the waiter that she is on a special diet, and could she have just some extra salad in place of French fries. Without hesitation he said a flat, "no" and added without prompting, "this is a very large restaurant and we do not substitute". Wish you could have seen the look on his face as we stood, turned and walked away shaking our heads. Now perhaps if it had been on an especially busy or crowded night, I may have understood but it wasn't and the attitude of this waiter was at best "milk toast".

Good price and tasty food

By Ueber Valério |

The place is amazing, good food nice view and the price is really good! I order Quesadillas was amazing, so tasty!

Skip it, just an okay meal

By Lisa B |

We were enjoying the Riverwalk, looking for a place to eat. We just randomly picked this place and wished we had gone elsewhere. We shared a half rack of ribs, which were fair. By far not the best we’ve ever had. The side were okay, potato salad and beans. We did enjoy sitting outside by the river, very nice. Service was good, but nothing to brag about. There are so many options at the Riverwalk, so I suggest picking another.

Great CFS but mixed

By Beth S |

The Chicken Fried Steak was excellent. The service was mediocre and the waitress never understood to split the ticket and give each couple a receipt. The tortilla soup had cooled and the large amount of shredded chicken and cheese would have needed a knife to cut. No tortillas and the broth was bland. But my husband's chicken fried steak was tasty and huge. I switched to helping him and we didn't quite finish the large piece. This made the other problems minor.

Food was ok. Visited on 12/8/2019.

By Aileen R |

Food was ok. Visited on 12/8/2019. Service was good but waited FOREVER to get our food. Place was not packed at all for the amount it took. Probably wouldn’t go a second time.

Open on Christmas Day 2019!

By jgwisdom |

Not a lot of places were open on Christmas Day, but this place was open (thank you since we were traveling and in a hotel) and run over with people. The riverwalk was off the chain crowded on a beautiful night. Service was pretty good and we ate simple, salads and chips and salsa. The salsa was too spicy for our taste, but we managed. Great outdoor seating along the riverwalk is a nice touch for this place too. Overall not bad.

Fun Place!! Great food!!

By tony c |

My wife and I stopped by and tried this place for dinner and we are glad we did. From the great happy hour to the food it was all top notch. We both got the burgers and I would have to say these burghers were as good as any we have had. Very lean with great flavor. A must stop if visiting the Riverwalk!!

NOT barbecue! Tourist trap bar prices!

By TheOldDude |

Wait time for anything on the river-walk were very long and this place was 35 minutes. Barbecue in Texas what could go wrong? We waited at the bar and ordered 2 "medium" margaritas. They were okay and when the table was ready we closed the tab and I was shocked that the 2 drinks cost $45 after tax and tip. We both ordered brisket and I can tell you it was NOT BARBECUE! There was no smoke ring and no bark at all. The meat was not tender and it tasted like it was cooked in the oven in it's own juices. On the positive the service staff were good and the atosphere on the river was nice but a tour boat anchored RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR TABLE for about 15 minutes! That was the last straw. This is a tourist trap and I will not eat here again.

Quick Service

By Dave C |

We were in town for the Alamo Bowl so the River walk was VERY busy, however we stopped here for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised to get seating quickly and served as well. The Cadillac Gold margarita, on ice, was very good and the food was fine. It wasn’t the best but not the worst...kind of chain restaurant style. Look for the branded red, white and blue umbrellas to quickly find this place along the River walk.

Average

By bigv34 |

Was expecting that incredible Texas bbq and was very disappointed. Ribs were dry and lacking. Everyone else rated the food average at best. Waiter was exceptional and the location is the biggest draw.

Not good

By BeAdvised573 |

Salsa is awful - tastes like ketchup. Chips were stale. Guacamole is just mashed up avocado and cheese dip clearly came from a can. Ribs were good; sauce was OK. All of the sides tasted like they came out of a 5-gallon bucket from US Foods. Server was really nice and atmosphere on the River Walk was nice, but we will definitely not go back.

Good food

By Anita M |

It was too warm to eat outside so we ate inside. A bit cramped with tables. Staff was friendly and informative. Drink choices were good and food was good. Noisy but fun. Felt a bit rushed!

Good food

By lori50022 |

Lovely location as we sat outside on the riverwalk. Food was very good. I had the brisket and my husband had the chicken salad. Service was excellent. I had a margarita that was also delicious. I would recommend eating here when you are on the riverwalk. This was my second visit as I had stopped here years ago while attending a conference

Good Foof

By lmspencer76119 |

After reading the reviews, we weren't expecting much, but we were pleasantly surprised. We had chicken fajita quesadillas and beef enchiladas. Both were excellent. Quesadilla had plenty of cheese and chicken. The margaritas were really good....get the medium, don't even waste your time with the small because you will want more! Chips and salsa are not free, but they're only $2 and worth it. Salsa not too spicy and served cold like I like it. My only negative is that they automatically add 18%gratuity, but our waitress was awesome so we didn't complain@

almost absent waitstaff, cold undercooked food, personal property damaged

By Logical1 |

Food not completely cooked (cold inside). would have sent it back if the waiter had retuned to check on out table. Never came to soo if we needed another drink. I had to go looking for a waiter to get the check. Also, tables are VERY close. The guy behind me put the back of his char abbove the back of my chair and ripped my jacket. Told him about it and he just stared looking confused. Told one of the elusive staff and the didn't care. River walk is great but if you're looking for a pleasant dining experience avoid Republic of Texas Restaurant at all costs.

Not exactly our favorite.

By Jaeed |

Decided to try this because it had a little bit of everything. Burgers were good, fajitas were not good quality or taste. Chips were not even fried chips but ones from a bag. Queso was cold and this was right at noon. Great server but not the food.

Better places on the Riverwalk

By fisher004 |

Was looking forward to a margarita the night we went, so I ordered the 22 oz. It was huge, but watery and very little alcohol. With 22 oz., I should have been able to drink only one (which I did), but I probably could have drank 5 of these and felt like I was drinking lime flavored water. Was hoping the food was better. We ordered the appetizer with queso, guacamole, salsa and chips. Chips were ok, salsa and guac was good, queso was mediocre. For dinner, we ordered the beef enchiladas, and a cheeseburger. The meat tasted unseasoned. The tortillas were average, and the cheese on top tasted like low quality cheese. Rice and beans were mediocre. The cheeseburger was not great, either. We didn't bother taking leftovers home and there were plenty since none of us cared for our food. The service, however, was good, with a very personable waitress. We had high hopes for this restaurant, but food was low quality, and not very hot. We paid $80 for 4 people, and my husband and I split a dinner. Very expensive for low quality! Would walk on down the river and find somewhere else to eat.

Mediocre food

By Stephen G |

We ate here in a large group. I was disappointed with the food. We had chips and salsa at our table and the chips were cooked in old grease. The chips were pretty stale as well. When my chicken fried steak came to the table it looked great, but was obviously cooked in the same old grease. It was not good. I didn't raise an issue because I was with a group of eight acquaintances and I didn't want to be "that guy" so I just dealt with it, but I was disappointed.

Nice place on the river

By Ricmar60 |

This restaurant is right on the river downtown. They have indoor seating as well as seating right on the river. The food was very good. The service was quick and friendly. The prices were reasonable.

Rude bartender terrible margarita

By Voyage578419 |

We got enticed in by happy hour specials and then the not very friendly bartender said the $6 one we wanted wasn’t avail that the $10 one was better and stronger. It was the worst Margarito we’ve had. To sweet, no alcohol. We took it to go so had to throw it away.

Decent food

By BriannaW2323 |

Good burgers, nothing super amazing. Decent service. We didn’t wait long for anything. Picked because of location. Bathrooms need updating.

Medium

By Laurent V |

Average restaurant in every point; welcome, menu, quality ... Pretty standard what. The exterior decor is nice. Not disappointed or excited.

Anniversary dinner gone wrong

By Krista A |

Very Disappointed!!! We went for our anniversary. First off the one star is because there was no wait to be seated (should have been a red flag for a Saturday night) So…we ordered an appetizer and drinks, got the drinks…ordered our entrees ( I ordered the chicken fried steak, my husband ordered the BBQ plate), got our entrees …still no appetizer, the people sitting next to us who came in after us got their appetizer, then about 5 minutes later we got our appetizer (why would we want it now? We already have been eating our dinner). So we ate our dinner (my husband’s sausage was burnt, my chicken fried steak was fried way to long, it was very crunchy. Got the check and after waiting 10 mins our waitress (who by the way we hadn’t seen since she took our order for our entrees) comes back and tells us their credit card machine is down and that we can either wait to see if it comes back up or we can pay cash, we tell her we will wait cause we didn’t have cash on us. So another 10 - 15 mins go by and the waitress comes back and proceeded to tell us that the manager can’t get the credit card machine to work and that we can go upstairs to the ice cream store and get money out of the atm. We tell her no we’re not doing that and that we want to speak to the manager and that we want the appetizer taken off our bill being that we received it after we got our entrees. Finally the manager comes over with our card and a carbon credit card slip and let’s us know that she took the appetizer off the bill and that our total is $56. No offer of a % off our bill for the inconvenience, no offer for a refill on our drinks the whole time we were there, no offer for a dessert, just an I’m sorry and oh happy anniversary. We will never go back, please don’t waist your time or money going here!

Below Average

By Rod R |

My wife and stopped for a snack and a few drinks. We ordered tortilla chips with salsa, guacamole and melted cheese and hamburger for dips. My wife’s margarita was not cold but was tasty. The melted cheese concoction was simply melted Velveeta (yuk). Guacamole was good but the salsa was just average at best. Our server was funny but he could not compensate for bad food and warm drinks.

good prices and food

By debbie s |

Had the enchiladas plate which was great with homemade refried beans. Price was $12 which is good for a tourist place. Nice people and will go back.

Great start to our San Antonio experience

By Barryj333 |

Our first stop when we got to the Riverwalk, and we were very pleased, with all aspects of our experience. Got seated right nex to the river, food and service was very good. We shared a dish each and was still plenty. I recommend this restaurant to you.

Delicious

By Karen G |

The food was delicious. My husband had steak and it was cooked just right. The portions were generous. The service was prompt and polite I would go back.

Texas lunch at the Republic of Texas

By havefunaway |

Great spot along the riverwalk for drinks and meals. We started the day getting familiar with options on our route and this one was a good choice. A bit before lunch time, Rose was outside and answered questions about the menu as we studied it. After our activity, we returned for lunch and Rose was there and remembered us and our conversation and was ready to serve. She was charming as was our water side table. We had Bison burger and Queso Bacon Burger which were both delicious!! When in Texas, .....

Not Good

By Danielle |

I ordered the catfish and it had a terrible flavor. The breading was too much too and the service, while friendly was slow.

The best Prickly Pear Margaritas and friendliest staff!

By gonegirl |

Bartender server, Delilah, at the bar is wonderful, as were the other staff. Friendly, entertaining and great drinks, appetizers were terrific, Excellent, quick and personal service on our visits each day. Highly recommend!!

Best food & Service on the RiverWalk

The atmosphere's great drinks are cold the food is hot and the service is with a smile what more could you ask for

Great value for the Riverwalk

By Mark F |

Excellent value for the Riverwalk. I had a burger and my wife had the bbq brisket. Both were very good, quite an accomplishment on busy St. Patrick's day.

Great ribs

By Hugh L |

Large restaurant offering various levels inside and out tables. Large and varied menus. Staff were very friendly. Food is delicious.

Good Food and Great Staff!

By Sandi M |

Staff bent over backwards to accommodate us with seating AND on Thanksgiving day! Then they bent over backwards to make sure our orders were right! Outdoors seating was a little crowded, but it was worth it! Thank you for good food and great service, and for being so great on a holiday!

Everything was good, but didn't blow my socks off.

By hrs-r-us |

Ate here with a group of 7 on a Tuesday night. Was seated right away and order taken and served in good time. I think everybody had a steak. Food was good, but not outstanding. Somebodies side order was wrong but corrected. I would eat here again to give it another try.

Not the same

By John D |

We have been coming to San Antonio for 40 years and the Republic has always been on the must do list. We decided to have dinner there during fiesta for one of the river events. We easily secured a table for 2 on the river. WE overheard our server telling them he had worked there for 15 years but seemed to know very little about fiesta and what was happening, he may have been very knowledgeable about the menu! We ordered and waited. Our starter was nachos coming with ground beef topping salsa and sour cream. The plate was a sharer and arrived but the nachos were soaked in meat and salsa juices so very soggy. Almost instantly our main course arrived as well. So having had one bite of my starter the main is sitting next to us getting cold. I know we could have asked for it to be taken away, but we are realists and it would have gone back to sit in an oven or warming plate for 15 minutes. We gave up on the soggy nachos and ate out main, a burger and catfish, both dishes very mediocre. We fear that the Republic has succumbed to the need to make money from tourists who will likely never return and turn out average fast food at over-inflated prices. We finished our meal and sadly what has been an institution for UK tourists will likely no longer be so.

just a snack

By buckmi |

We stopped for a snack and a cocktail. Got the three sauces (cheese, guacamole, and salsa) with a plate of chips. Very good and more than we could eat. Drinks were good.

Great.

By Charona3101 |

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Great food, service and value. Our waitress, Barbara, was friendly and appropriately attentive,. Margaritas were good as was the burger and the BBQ combo. Highly recommended.

My son and I went on a Monday

By cpricher |

My son and I went on a Monday afternoon around 2 pm. We got a table right away and were greeted by a server named Barbara. She was friendly, upbeat, and welcoming. We had chips and a large portion of fresh guacamole. It was under 10.00 and well worth it. We also had chicken enchiladas (verdes) and they were by far the best I’ve ever had. It was a great place to relax, watch people and see the river cruises. It was warm but we had plenty of shade. We had our food in 15 minutes but never felt rushed.

Great Service

By Chelsie P |

The food was amazing, our waiter Martin was great and spot on. The walk in from the riverwalk was bliss on a warm night. My husband and I got the colossal margarita for a great take home. Love the overall experience!

Huge disappointment

By Michelle R |

As we stood outside the restaurant it smelled so good! I splurged and ordered the ribeye steak. It was 1/4” or less thick and FULL of gristle. My coworker had ordered the same and verbally expressed her disappointment in the steak to the wait staff. The potatoes were really good. Service was friendly and pretty good considering the large size of our group. It’s a shame they really skimped on the quality of steak.

Great place to sit and have

By Angelia K |

Great place to sit and have a meal. I personally LOVED the BQQ chicken sandwich. Food was also a great price

Good experience loved the view!

By CNC1980 |

I got the famous AL flautas and they were good especially the homemade pico de gallo and also got the triple dip (queso, salsa and guacamole) wasn't impressed with queso as it wasn't authentic queso to me. Good experience overall.

On the Riverwalk

By shane a |

Great seating on the edge of the riverwalk so scenery is magic. Started with a couple of margarita's in tall glasses that hit the spot then appetisers was triple dipper, queso, fresh guacamole, homemade salsa with mountain of corn chips. Mains of Country fried steak smothered in traditional southern style gravy and a side of delicious mash. Ribeye cooked to order lovely and tender served with traditional side salad that was fresh and fries. reasonably priced and service quick and friendly

Good food, great location

By JillyMilk |

We ate at the Republic of Texas because it was the only restaurant along the River Walk that didn’t have a wait on a Friday evening. The food was good, but way overpriced. But, I guess they can get away with the price for the premium location. Service was great. The bathrooms were a little funky, seriously little (I felt like a giant), but functional.

Terrible, just terrible

By WaiPRUSA |

This is a really bad restaurant. Like really bad. The only good thing about it is the location by the Riverwalk. The service was slow and the waiter seemed like he didn't care to serve us. The food was tasteless and with an unappealing look to it. The gravy on the Country Fried Steak was the worst I have ever had. The BBQ Ribs sauce was terrible and the meat was hard. The Bacon Cheeseburger was also dry. The only plate out of all five that looked decent and had good taste was the Cilantro Chicken Breat. Although the chicken was a little hard. There was no value to it.

Great Location and Menu

By Kathy M |

We stopped at this restaurant for lunch because they had a very large menu selection. Then, we ended up both ordering Mexican anyway. I ordered the Enchilades Verdes and my husband ordered the El Pollo Rojo. We also ordered chips and salsa. The actual entrees were very good. However, we had to pay for the chips and salsa while most restaurants on the River Walk just bring them free of charge. Even paying would not be bad except most of the chips provided were broken and tiny. We should have requested a substitution, but did not. We only ate at the restaurant one time, but returned often for drinks. On our last trip for drinks, Ashley waited on us and she was the best! Very friendly and service was great. When we had originally been seated, no one came to take our order. A few servers came past and asked if anyone had been by, we said no, and they said they would send someone. No one came. We were not in Ashley's "area" but when she came by to see if anyone took our order, she just took over. Cannot say enough good about her. If she is not a manager in the very near future, I would be surprised.

Okay food and a charge for water

By lucsimsthomas |

I went to this restaurant after the Battle of Flowers Parade in downtown San Antonio, so it was very busy. My friend and I were seated quickly though and we ordered some chips and salsa, which were OK. We then asked for water while we decided what else to get. I got the brisket and sausage plate and it was pretty good. The coleslaw was delicious but the portion was really tiny. The potato salad and brisket were also quite tasty. The sausage and beans were nothing to write home about. I later looked at my bill and discovered they charged me 92 cents for the glass of water. There was also supposed to be a military discount that was never put on my bill. It was very busy, so our waiter seemed distracted and a little unhappy. I also ordered tea, which was pretty good. I only ordered water because I knew it might take awhile to get a refill on tea -- which it did! If I had known I would be charged for it, I would not have ordered it.

Lovely setting

By Nicky L |

Prime spot on The Riverwalk so it makes for a really lovely lunch spot watching the world go by, good menu choices, our food was very nice, reasonable value and a very nice, friendly server, you can't go wrong here in a city with so many places to eat in

Best food

By 596timothyk |

We ate here twice and the food was so much better than many other places on the River Walk, we will make this place our go-to first & last stop in the future.

The Republic of Texas Restaurant Representing Texas well

By Mel |

I don't write many reviews, but there are experiences that beg for the attention. As a party of 10 in 2020, the challenge is to find a place that has accomodations for a large group. But this restaurant did more than that. They made us feel welcome in Texas. The prices were very fair and we thoroughly enjoyed the brief wait for the food with ceiling fans overhead in the Texas flag canopy umbrellas. The tables right by the water gave a very nice ambiance. It was just what we were looking for in a Riverwalk experience. There was a rail that we appreciated very much since I have 3 kids under 5 years old that I didn't want to feed to the fish. 😁 I didn't try all the food on the Riverwalk and I usually always try a new place, but if I could go back to the Riverwalk, I would go right back there without a second thought. Lee and Al deserve a shout out! Great job guys. The kids were hot and tired and Lee lifted their spirits. We felt like friends and left full of tasty food and wonderful memories.

Not Texas food.

By 1CabanaBoy |

Tourist trap. Drinks were undrinkable. Order of chicken enchiladas tasted like chicken out of a can. I feel back for out of state visitors - this is not Texas food. Waiter was friendly.

Average on all levels

By Cheryle H |

I stopped here because they had a seat inside out of the heat without a long wait. I was given a small table that needed to be wiped down. I ordered a Jalopeno burger with fries as it looked and sounded good. When it arrived I was dissappointed and not impressed. Food was really average and it cost way more then what I got. I understand it is the riverwalk and not Applebees but geesh that burger was less then what I would of got at McDonalds and cost 4x more. Service was not great and I had to look for waiter to get my reciept. I got much better service and food at Waxy's and thier burger was excellant.

Biggest Chicken fried steak I've ever seen.

Appetizers as well as entrees were delicious and portions were large. Took half our meals to go. Frozen margaritas were a great price. Perfect riverside seating. Already recommended to friends going soon and we will for sure return.

Amazing BBQ and Chicken

The ambiance of eating outside right on the Riverwalk was unbeatable. This restaurant offers a good Tex-Mex cuisine at affordable prices, which wasn’t always easy to find in the area.

Average Restaurant With A Captive Audience And Magnificent Location.

By Phil N |

The great location with outdoor seating along the River Walk is somewhat balanced by average food and drink prices. On a very busy evening we were relieved to find somewhere to eat with a menu we could understand (not being keen on many traditional Mexican meals). The food was adequate and the beer list a bit of a mystery with a waiter not speaking the best english. I must say the though, that the service was fairly prompt even though it was a busy evening. As a summary we enjoyed the evening and the meal but more to do with the great atmosphere along the river than the restaurant as such.

Not

Avoid. Overpriced with average quality. Many better options on the river walk. Food tasted like it was fast food.

Food was ok, atmosphere was even better!

I went out to this restaurant on a Saturday night with a few new colleagues. We weren’t sure what we were going to eat but wound up here. I loved the fact that it was right on the river walk, it was packed and one of the only restaurants with a dance floor after 10pm. The music was good, the people were great as well. There was a young lady going around taking complimentary photos of the guests. We were able to get one photo for free and had the option of purchasing others. As far as the food, i only had the guacamole which was just ok. I had to add my own onions, cilantro, lime and tomatoes because their quacamole was literally just smashed avocado, disappointing for a Mexican restaurant. I can’t even remember what my colleagues had besides the sweet potato fries. Food was that memorable.

Best Restaurant on the River Walk

This casual dining restaurant on the river walk downtown is more than just a tourist spot. The food and service were amazing. The menu is also more affordable than the other neighboring restaurants.

Great Experience

By Josh D |

When I was looking for a place to eat near the Riverwalk, this place popped up and I was very impressed. The atmosphere was good and the customer service was great. I order the chicken fried chicken and it came out pretty fast right after I ordered. It was a great portion size and delicious. I would recommend this place and I would definitely come back the next time I'm in San Antonio.

This was one of the best restaurants I have ever been to because…. the waitress was calm and friendly. The ice cream with a brownie underneath and whipped cream tasted so yummy! The shrimp enchilada was cheesy with avocado that tasted so good!

This was our family’s first trip to the river walk and we ate here and I will say it was the best chicken fried steak my wife and I have eaten. We shared it and it was plenty. Our son had there regular cheeseburger and it was also one of the best I have tasted. We would recommend this place to anyone and will go back on our next visit

Excellent service and atmosphere. Food is really good (especially for the Riverwalk). Amber is an awesome bartender and makes superior drinks. Melissa is the manager and does terrific job making sure customers have a positive experience. A very good time can be had here.

Always a success

It was not my first time at that restaurant but yesterday I took my sister and niece from France there. We were told a 30-45 minutes wait but it was probably just 15. It started well. Then we had the best waitress. Gina was patient, attentive and always around for anything we needed even though the place was packed. We all had our burgers perfectly as ordered. Delicious

Just OK

By Driver88 |

Burgers were tasty but hard to believe they were the claimed 1/2 pound. Served with cold fries. Another waitress noticed our dissatisfaction and stepped in to get us hot fries. Our waitress had no knowledge of the beers they sold. Appears almost all of the beers are canned and not draught.

Good beers by the river

We only had a few beers sitting by the river, on a break from our hike. Unfortunately we didn’t feel like eating anything, because the menu was tempting. They took care of us very well.

We had never tried Mexican Food and this was our very time. We ordered based on the staff's recommendation. The food tasted nice and the service could have been better. We hope to try more Mexican food and we will certainly visit again should we return to San Antonio.

Not bad, considering the location.

By danielaronza |

In our opinion quite overpriced, if you consider the dishes we tried. Good, but not like tried in other restaurants (perhaps less touristy) in other areas of Texas. Friendly service, in winter outdoor tables with heat lamps. On the riverwalk, like many others in the area with the highest number of clubs. It is still recommended if you want to eat on the riverwalk (others are very similar, or much more expensive.

Flavorless meal

By Ceir C |

Took a trip to Riverwalk and decided to eat dinner here during Happy Hour. Lots of busy restaurants and this one wasn’t bad. Know I see why. Queso dip was good but meal lacked any flavor or spices. Charro beans were very bland...not even any salt and watery. Rice lacked flavor and tasted old. Steak was cooked right but again no spices. Overall very disappointing. Overpriced for the amount of food and taste quality. Beer was $3 on Happy Hour but we’re out of some on the menu. Do not recommend this place.

Overpriced crap food. The beer was not even cold. Location was nice if you sit outside. Right on the river. Good crowd watching location. This is the only reason for a two otherwise it would be a one. The waiter was good.
