Totally disapointing!

By Ivonna02 |

We went to the Farmers Market in Dallas, Texas. My husband wanted to eat Fish and Chips and we went to Rex's Seafood and Market. We ordered the Fish and Chips dish and we were surprised to see the fish. It was burnt, not fried, totally crunchy and with a terrible taste. They even placed the burned pieces that were deep dark in the dish. The taste was not at all pleasant. It is incredible that a place announces that it sells seafood and is of such low quality. Without a doubt, we will not return or go back!

Great Lobster Roll!

By Susan M |

This is a great place to meet up with friends and family when visiting Dallas. The food is always fresh and the service is great. It is a little on the pricey side but it is worth it. My favorite is the Lobster Roll and second favorite is the Fried Shrimp.

nothing to right home about --- we had the oysters and ceviche - ceviche was not enough with too much hard chips - especially for the price -

Surprisingly good seafood at Dallas Farmers Mkt

By Fred F |

Who knew there’s a great seafood restaurant in the shops at the Farmers Market in Dallas? The locals do! A short walk from Downtown this gem is a gourmet restaurant hiding in plain sight! I ate at the bar and was soon surrounded by locals from the condos across the street and everyone had a great time. Service is excellent prices are reasonable. The sauces were spectacular- soy based sauce made asparagus taste better than ever, and they were nicely crunchy. Salmon entree had wonderful light chipotle sauce. Key lime pie was nicely tart and homemade. I know everyone says go for the brisket in Texas, but this is a great addition to the mix.

Great seafood at a reasonable price

By danaF660MS |

I was recently in Dallas with a friend who wanted seafood. As we live in northern Wisconsin, fresh seafood is a treat. I did some research and decided on Rex's seafood market in the farmers market. We really enjoyed it. I love the setting where you can order from several vendors and enjoy a meal at their communal tables. In fact I got a tasty $4 margarita at a neighboring taco bar. I ordered the sushi grade tuna and my friend got the Mahi Mahi. Although my tuna was past the medium rare I ordered it was still delicious and the wasabi sauce they provided upon request made it great. My companion liked her Mahi Mahi but we especially enjoyed the sweet potato fries! Yummy! I would definitely go back as there were so many other items on the menu I would like to try!

Accidental find

Accidental find when looking for another place. Food was good. Fresh seafood. Tasty grits. Little slow.

Thanks for showing the French Open

By Irene Eng |

Will return. The French Open is on their four tv monitor (the last match of the day - well past 10 pm in Paris: Džumhur v Alcaraz), so we stopped for a drink. Counter service by a few energetic young people, professional and proficient. They grind their own horseradish, which is great - it tastes so so good. Three kinds of oyster we tried: Great White of MA: light Birch Point of ME: flavorful - our favored Irish Point of PEI: they’re good (Prince Edward Island) We’d have more but can’t - have an Italian dinner at 6, and we’ve to go. Does the increasing efficient shipping service makes it possible for anyone to realize their dream business - Dallas, and Texas in that matter is a landlocked region. But what do I know. … Alcaraz won in four, on his second match point, near 5pm Dallas time. I’d think Friday evening is a hopping time in the city but it feels dead, the mall is pretty empty. Where’s everyone? Or it’s too early for everybody -:) - my first full day in Dallas. Wishing everyone with a desire to succeed in a biz the best of luck.

Oysters and Lobster in Dallas

By ZanerHouston_Texas |

We were exploring the Dallas Farmer's Market when we came across this place. It's basically like a food court restaurant, but they offer high dollar seafood. The fish looked really fresh, and they have oysters on the half shell, so we stopped for lunch. My daughter got the lobster roll which was good, and I got a dozen oysters on the half shell. To my surprise, they offered oysters from a number of places on the east and west coasts, so I selected a variety from Massachusetts. They were good, albeit a bit saltier than any oysters I have ever encountered. It was a nice lunch, but very pricey. I suppose being as far from the sea as Dallas is, it stands to reason. A lobster roll, a dozen oysters and two drinks set me back over $50. I think I paid about $2.50 per oyster. I would be very careful about what I ordered here unless you just have money to burn. I rate the value of this place as poor simply because of the exorbitant cost of what we ordered. I understand that the offers are imported fresh, but it's in a food court, and you order at a counter, so the overhead is lower than a proper restaurant with waitstaff.

Seafood gem, best in the Farmer's Market

By DallasLonghorn |

We eat here a lot, as we are often at City Futsal on weekend evenings. It is our go to in the Farmers Market. Everyone in our family loves their blackened salmon tacos. My son actually talks about them all the time. Love the bar they have and you just feel like you are on the coast when you are there. Seafood is fresh and well prepared. Soups are awesome. Nice service and cool atmosphere at the Farmers Market.

Great Louisiana Seafood Fast Service

By 2011glen |

The same wonderful food as the old location on Lovers. You have to try it out. Cheesy Grits were awesome and were the scallops in a savory butter sauce. Definitely a treat to the taste buds. Pricing was a bit high on the scallops for the 3 small ones served. The vegetables had a bit too much garlic, but the tastes of the other items were superb. Definitely worth the trip to the farmers market in Dallas for the food here.

White table cloth meal in a casual atmosphere

By Bev G |

We were staying close to the Farmers Market so decided to try Rex’s. The meals we got would have cost a lot more in any Downtown restaurant. I had the red snapper - perfectly cooked- moist with fresh veggies & grits. My husband had the ahi tuna, also perfectly cooked. Good size portions, served promptly. Highly recommend it.

$1 oysters, $3 beer and frose happy hour!

By Takelly2361 |

Good selection of oysters and seafood (it's all good)! Go for weeknight happy hour or stop by while at the farmers market on the weekend! Good food and location!

Nice change of diet

By GClife |

Being a tourist you always look for something different We enjoyed the casual ambience of Rex Seafood. Reasonably priced and fun to sit at bar. The cod was good, although it did have a few boned, French fries and coleslaw were great. Choice of wine by the glass

Missed the mark

By Theresa L |

We decided on Rex's after browsing past the other food options. Sharing pics of most of our selections. Fried dishes were fried too hard. Gumbo was overtaken by pepper and was void of gumbo ingredients. Crab cake was predominantly full of bread. Best part was the oysters, red fish and steamed spinach. Not enough to return.

Fresh and tasty...a great find

By drdanielmacdonald |

So, Nick ate the lobster roll with a side of fries..and loved it....fresh, tasty..perfect. Informal place in the Farmers Market...a place to stop off at if nearby.

Please return to the original recipes

By Alison K |

I have eaten here many times a few years ago and really enjoyed several dishes and was excited to return recently. Unfortunately, the dishes I remember are nowhere near the quality they used to be….. I was particularly disappointed with the crab jalapeño bisque. It is so overpowered by the jalapeños now, the entire soup is a dark green color. It used to be incredible and a pale cream color…..I wish you would return to the original recipe.

Very nice seafood and fish

By maartenw2016 |

Loved the shrimp basket and crab cake and siders. Not that expensive, even for the wine, and the service was very friendly. And enjoyed the particular atmosphere of the place!

Fantastic Food & Service

By MarshallsDoncaster |

Unexpected lunch stop today whilst visiting Dallas Farmers Market. Really great menu, very reasonably priced & excellent quality. The service from the hello to the goodbye exceeded our expectations. Well done to this excellent casual dining stop.

Good, not great.

By russkwtx |

I had a Groupon and decided to give this place a try for lunch on a weekday. Ordered tuna nachos ($13). They were good but really salty. Not sure if the saltiness is from the three sauces or the green things on top that look like tiny caviar eggs (never saw green caviar before). I also ordered a lobster roll, first one in my life! It was ok. To be honest, the lobster tasted as if it had been frozen because it was rather soggy and did not have the crispness or clean flavor that fresh lobster has. It was not a bad lobster roll, just not great, although admittedly I have nothing to compare it to. For $20 the portion was definitely on the small size. If anything, this lobster roll motivates me to go to Maine and have a fresh one. I would return here again because I love seafood. Maybe oysters are the way to go. Atmosphere is casual. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Plastic forks and knives, disposable plates.

Holy Moly yummo

By Robyn S |

Wish we lived closer. We would go every day for happy hour. Truly chef prepared food (Ben Zimmer). The beans and rice were to die for. Prices reasonable. An array of oysters for all coasts. Lots of wine options. Can't wait for an excuse to return.

Good tasty food but I find portion size underwhelming....nearly a 4 star rating

By AppleStud |

Great friendly customer service and decently fast service even for cooked dishes. Lots of seating available. Portion size would be very helpful--I've had this conversation with many folks. However, the oysters and options are GREAT.

Fabulous seafood

By Alison K |

I have eaten here several times, and taken home many meals also. The seafood is fabulous! I love the crab and jalapeño bisque, and the tuna tartare tacos on wonton chips with the wasabi roe are to die for. The fish and chips are pretty good but need a little work. The fresh seafood is also wonderful, and the service is excellent weather you eat there or take home.

Really Delicious Seafood

By Bruce T |

We were looking for a great and relaxing place to enjoy some seafood. The service was excellent and the food even more so. Beau and Jodi made the experience all the better. Rex’s seafood is a great place to stop for a great and relaxing meal.

Great service, great food

By Towleway |

Our first visit was a great success. Good beer selection and wine on tap to start. Soup was amazing. If you’re an oyster fan, this is the best place in dallas for them. Had two dishes with crab and they were outstanding as well. Super friendly and attentive staff. We’ll definitely be back.

Best Seafood Restaurant and Market

By Christian S |

I have been a customer of Red's Seafood since their first location on Lover's Ln. Beau the owner started when he was 16.His on hand education reflects his expertise of Seafood and his success in his new location. A true professional. I only buy my seafood from Beau. Just open in Oak Cliff please!

Great Seafood Place

By aaland2016 |

If you want to eat some fresh seafood and great counter service Rex's is the place. I have been a fan since they opened and it just gets better and better. Ask for Mr Bellamy and he will take great care of you. A

Awesome food, service and prices.

By Justin S |

Happened by this place while looking for a mimosa in the farmers market so we decided to try the food. Everything we had was delicious!!! We had the crawfish hush puppies, i had raw oysters which the bartender/waitress helped pick all were awesome. My wife had the gumbo and i had the scallop pasta special. Everything was great some of the best food I’ve had in a while and reasonably priced. Also I didn’t get the ladies names this morning but the management team should know the two lady’s that were working the morning of the 30th were awesome and very attentive!

Lovely lobster

By Karen B |

This place is located inside the farmers market. You line up, they take your order, you wait for them to call your name and then you stumble with your food, drink, and whatever else you have in hand to find a free table. Sounds terrible doesn’t it? Oh let me tell you it is worth every minute. The seafood is delicious and the service pretty fast. I had the lobster roll and I’m still dreaming about it. Juicy and tasty. And the sweet potato fries excellent to accompany. The oysters looked pretty amazing too. Give it a try you won't regret it.

Great quality and taste seefood

By cgsolomong |

Everything is delicious, but I'm particularly fond of oysters in the half shell. Amazing. Ask for the special Soy sauce.... Wow

Yum!

By Nyoung486 |

Yum! We were so surprised at how great the food was! The sides were great too! Charlie, our server, was patient and did a great job! Don’t forget creme brûlée! Delish!

Ahi Tuna Nachos

By Matt Blum |

I am hesitant to write this place up, because it's one of my favorites and well, it's already plenty busy. Lol I stopped by last night to grab my favorite snack... their ahi tuna nachos and a Boqueron beer. Let's start with the beer, because it's the only place I've ever seen it, and it is tasty! Crisp, clean, and on draft! The nachos... I'd love to tell you they're terrible so there would be more for me, however they're exceptional. Chunks of tuna, with a trio of sauces on a crispy wonton. Add some fish eggs and wow, this tasty tidbit is a mouthful of flavor. Sorry for the lack of photo... It's THAT good. Get in my belly!

Good food

By Lisa W |

My husband and I came in for dinner after a day of brewery tours, so we were quite hungry and a little intoxicated. The staff was very helpful with making recommendations, and we got some delicious seafood. I would like to fo again while sober.

Finally found a great fish restaurant

By Jaime C |

What a outstanding restaurant...they have anything you want and it fresh. I hardly find a place that has great service and food selection. I took advantage of the catch of the day and it was great. Its located at Dallas Farmers Market and there are many other restaurants there.

Best oysters in Dallas

By Channa C |

This is such a great place to get oysters! Their happy hour is excellent! The service, food and people watching is great as this is located at the Farmers Market!

Nice fresh food

By AppleStud |

Always fascinating selection and decent prices. I appreciate the variety and good food. The owner is a good fella...support out local businesses is always my motto. I appreciate the happy hour for oysters and beer!

Quick and tasty

By kdsandjms |

Great cafe/restaurant in the market area. You can buy from several vendors and use the shared tables. Rex's has good beer selection - just ask, the staff are very friendly. Great selection of seafood dishes - we bought and shared :-) . Rex's and the market definitely worth a visit.

Kind of high for what you get.

By Mark K |

They have good food, well prepared, fresh fish, but service is a bit slow and very uncaring. Dishes are overpriced and portions are small.

Surprisingly good seafood in a touristy location.

By bobtheplanner |

Staying in downtown Dallas for a convention and wanted reasonably priced yet good seafood. Found Rex's rated well on Yelp and tried them. Unless you know they're located within the Dallas Farmer's Market you wouldn't know they were there. Took a tip from other reviewers and got in on the Happy Hour Oysters. Gulf oysters were large but east and west oysters were much tastier. Excellent grouper with creamy avocado sauce and great cole slaw and tasty hand cut fries. A dozen oysters and grouper with two sides and an Arnold Palmer set me back $39 plus tip. I'll be back!

Great NE Clam Chowder... really nice lunch!

By Catherine W |

Stopped in at the market while on vacation in Texas from Australia. We've tried NE style Clam Chowder in many places and Rex's has one of the best. Serving was generous without being crazy huge, and we followed the Chowder with a flatbread with crab and buttery sauce. It was just wonderful. I'd certainly recommend this place for a very pleasant lunch. :)

Happy days 😉👍

By vigz1 |

On our holiday from England, stopped and had lunch. The food and service absolutely fantastic! Happy days 😉👍

Surprise surprise

By Jchow78 |

Went to the farmers market and realised it’s much modern than we thought. Went o Rex and have a snack before dinner. Deep fried oyster was nicely done, not greasy but crispy, the sea water juice is still locked inside the batter and the seafood bowl was generously rich.

Outstanding and good!

By Alan_Righetti |

After visiting the Dallas farmer market we decided to stop for lunch. Cute little place cooking fresh seafood. Excellent shrimp, fried squid that even in Italy is not so good and light (!), exceptional grilled salmon and America-Mexico nachos with shrimp and not bad crabs. Davvero top! Grandi!

Some of the Best Seafood in Dallas.

By JWBGrapevine |

Excellent seafood with casual atmosphere in an air-conditioned Farmers Market Building. Nice selection of fish and shell-fish with a menu that changes daily. Oysters are worth the trip and they have several harvested from northern cooler waters. Prices reasonable, atmosphere casual, and staff is knowledgable. Plus that section of Farmers Market has a fun funky vibe. Set up like a food court, there are plenty of other great options for your non-seafood lovers and you can all still sit together. Oysters, lobster roll, and fresh grilled fish all excellent on a recent visit.

Hidden Gem

By Ram-Bar |

Best surprise of my trip. This is a must visit for anyone who loves seafood and enjoys a bit of an adventure too. I had the crawfish hushpuppies with raspberry chipotle sauce and am forever ruined for regular run-of-the-mill hushpuppies. My nephew had the grilled salmon with raspberry chipotle sauce, which he said was amazing, and my entree was the fish tacos that were delicious. Zach, the chef, came out to the table and talked with us, which made the meal even more special. I highly recommend.

Just the Best!

By LoneStar58 |

I come from New England, & decided to visit Rex's at the Dallas Farmers Market. Short and sweet... Fresh, delicious, friendly and a great surprise. I'll be back again and again.

Lunch at Rex's

By BarbDallas |

The food was fine. Sunday at lunch it's hard to find a table. It's probably the best option in Shed 2 at Farmers Market.

Great food....... shabby chic atmosphere surrounded by handmaker shops and eateries

By Heidi M |

Farmers market...It's a destination.....with lots to see and REX SEAFOOD in the middle. I had the LOBSTER POOR BOY......MOSTLY LOBSTER with just enough veg and sauce to season and moisten....on a delicious bun specially toasted on all sides for a slight rich crunch. Beer and wine available by the glass. The wait staff were very attentive and present as was Rex even tho it's a walk up to order casual restaurant. I'M GOING BACK THE VERY NEXT TIME I'M IN DALLAS.( easy free parking)

Don't buy the lobster bisque

By culehmann |

Rex's was busy when we stopped by with no seats at their counter. So we decided to buy some of their pre-made food for dinner. We bought the smoked trout smear, which my wife liked and I thought was way to spicy, and the lobster bisque. We all agreed - it was way too fatty and was lacking any (I am there was none) lobster meat. Total rip off.

Superb seafood!

By Bill H |

This was our first visit, and we are thrilled to have found what promises to be a regular dining spot. My wife had the shrimp and crabcake and I had the king salmon special. Everything had that wonderful freshness that you only get with the highest quality seafood. My salmon was moist and flaky, and my wife's crabcake was virtually all crab meat (she wouldn't give me a shrimp so I can't report on them!) The sides were excellent, especially the red beans and rice. The staff was super friendly and helpful too. An outstanding experience!

Must try, amazing food!!

By H S |

The selection of oysters they offer is great!! Our favorite being the East Dennis bay, the Beach Plum and the Savage Blonde were our favorites but all were good. The Steamer bowl was excellent, the sauce was so good I just soaked the bread in it, as I didnt want to leave any to waste. The fish tacos were excellent, we did the catch of the day which was redfish today. Also tried the shrimp tostadas and there were of course great too. No disappointment at all. Excellent service from our waitress, and Ron, the general managers, enthusiasm for seafood was super helpful in making our decisions but at same time made us want to try everything. Lol Will have to come back to try more from the menu!!

what a nice surprise!

By BostonJaime |

we were looking for good food in downtown Dallas that wasn't a tourist trap and accidently stumbled on Rex's at the Farmer's Market. it was a little late and we thought it might be closed but fortunately it was open and we had a great meal. Great fish tacos, the crayfish hush puppies were tremendous, and the vegetarian flatbread was also very special. they offer lots of craft beers and the staff is very accommodating. when three staff people all ask you how your food was you know they care deeply about what they are doing.

Freshest Seafood in Dallas

By Lori C |

My husband and I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday after a long hike at White Rock Lake. We were in desperate need of good fresh seafood and Rex's did not disappoint. Upon arrival, I could not believe how fresh everything was. The fish market was very clean and had a large selection of fresh seafood. I will definitely be back for the market alone. Rex's is located inside a large indoor open market with many other equally interesting local artisans and vendors. We really liked the casual atmosphere and open seating area, as well as the nice selection of craft beer on tap. It is counter service so we ordered our lunch and enjoyed a local beer while our food was being prepared. I ordered the special Steamer Bowl which came with a big piece of crusty bread to soak up the delicious white wine butter sauce, along with a cup of bisque. My husband ordered the Arctic Char (a chalk board special that day). Both dishes were out of this world good! The fish was buttery, delicate and cooked to perfection. They also have a huge selection of Gulf, East Coast and Premium oysters. We look forward to returning to Rex's in the very near future.

Good Selection of Fresh Seafood

By HNBISOFF |

Rex’s Seafood at the Market was very good. The food was fresh and was seasoned very nicely. In addition the market is a neat place to visit.

Urban seafood

By lkschaub |

The Dallas Farmers's Market has a fresh look and Rex's has some of the freshest seafood in Dallas. Miss the original location on Mockingbird, but the newest location downtown lives up to the family tradition.

Lobster Roll

By Wyliegal |

Lobster roll and a Bloody Mary on a Saturday market day. Lucked out and got seated at the bar. We shared a Connecticut style lobster roll with sweet potato fries. They were kind and split it onto 2 plates for sharing. Lovely service

Redfish and crab pasta

By celis76 |

Me and my friend both enjoyed our dishes. I had blackened redfish with a sauce, red beans and rice, and sweet potato fries. My friend had crab pasta which he liked also.

A little pricey for a glorified mall restaurant but the food was very good.

By papasmurf5069 |

Good seafood and a wide variety of it. There is a good selection of beers and an adequate selection of wines. The food is served fresh, hot and quickly.

Tuna Nachos

By jusyelf |

The tuna nachos are fabulous. Read about them in other reviews and they surpassed my expectations. Shrimp tacos were pretty tasty. The staff is very friendly. A good place to stop while at the farmers market.

Soup and apps

By Quest16730383427 |

Selected the jalapeno crab bisque and crawfish hushpuppies. The bisque was smooth and just the right amount of heat. The hushpuppies had large pieces of crawfish and kernels of corn and were very tasty and not too greasy.A definite must if shopping Dallas Farmers Market!

Absolutely delicious whatever you order!

By elkhorn86 |

It was later in the afternoon so just ordered a tuna fish sandwich with side to split with my husband. Tuna fish was absolutely delicious. One of the best tuna sandwiches ever put in my mouth. Fries (side) were hot and crispy. Got a drink and chose tea - had peach, razberry, sweet and unsweetened to choose from. Tea was delicious as well.

Excellent Oysters, some of the best I've had

By Ahill77 |

I flew to New York City to eat oysters at "Oysters". These were good, but not near as good as the ones that I had at Rex's!!!! Absolutely some of the best oysters that I have ever had. I will be back!!!!!!!! My wife had the crab cakes and they were outstanding as well. Low key atmosphere, courteous staff, and Great Beer.

Great great seafood

By 777pj777 |

Ate here a couple of times whilst in Dallas. The food here was sublime. Great choice and fantastically prepared. I had the blackened redfish and was not disappointed. Friendly knowledgeable staff too.

Delicious Seafood, Excellent People Watching

By Pam S |

Located smack-dab in the middle of the Dallas Farmer's Market, Rex's Seafood offers some of the freshest, most delicious seafood in the city. They are a restaurant as well as a fish market. Watch the hustle and bustle of the farmer's market as you enjoy PEI Oysters, or crab cakes, or fresh gulf shrimp. You can't go wrong here!

Great oysters

By Jonathan R |

Got some oysters which were delicious. Staff was very friendly and informative. Even though I wasn't sitting in their area and was at a table in the more common area they still delivered my food.

Average

By Catrina M |

Went to Rex 's yesterday. Couldn't eat the flashes spinach, too damn salty. Shrimp was average and fries were a no- go. Fries were cold. Just an average meal.

Light and Airy

By adairwclark |

My friends and I met for Sunday brunch. From the beginning, the staff’s friendliness was impressive only exceeded by the great food. The brunch was varied but I loved that the lunch menu was supplied as well, to give us that many more choices. We each ordered different things so we could try different things but in the end each one was so good that we only would share bites. It’s a close call as to favorites but the Eggs Benedict with a crab cake was outstanding. I had the crab covered avocado toast (wow), and third was shrimp and cheesy grits (yum). Then we had a wonderful decadent dessert with 3 spoons. All in all I’m saying this casual upscale restaurant is Where I’m taking my family for my birthday Next week.

Rex's Seafood

By Rute F |

A very casual restaurant in Farmers Market Dallas, but with the best oysters I experienced in Dallas. The Oysters are really very good, fresh and worth a visit. The restaurant is located in the Farmers Market, so it is a very casual and of course somehow noisy ambiance.

Great food

By SummertimeMPD |

Perfect place for a quick snack or formal lunch - as a seafood lover I can only recommend it and if you are keen on desert you will get the best key lime pie ever.

Good Food, good scenery

By John O |

This was my first time at Dallas Market even though I’ve lived in the DFW metroplex for years. We can to Rex’s bc I wanted to try their lobster roll. They serve their LR Connecticut style and New England Style, I had mine Connecticut style and was not disappointed. It was not busy bc of COVID so we got our food with minutes of ordering.

Food Quality POOR/ Management Offended

By buffydees |

I posted a review on Google regarding our recent visit at this location. The food and the service was poor… and paying $73 dollars to eat on paper plates was a surprise within itself…I posted a review of our experience a jus so happened the manager replied to my review.. his response was filled with sarcasm posing as an apology along with an undertone of having black patrons eat at this establishment is not high on my list.. We had : shrimp pasta… the pasta was overcooked Redfish with lemon butter caper.. overcooked and bland Coleslaw… had better from Lone John Silver Red Beans and Rice… Good Crawfish Hushpuppies… Very Good Seafood Gumbo…. Good The thing that was so obvious I never saw any other post whether positive or negative where management responded…. other than mine… but I maybe my blackface made the target easier… To anyone thinking of sitting at this establishment… please think again .. and if there were a way for me to post his response …. I would ….
