Nice outdoor area with fire pit, TVs, heaters, boce. Lots of indoor seating with indoor boce , fireplace and lots of TVs. Liked beer and food selections.

German Fun with Beer & Pretzels!

By travelc1908 |

Who knew you could visit Germany in Seattle? What fun! The beer is large and cold, the pretzels fresh. People were playing German games. I mean, I guess they play these games in Germany. The Rhein Haus is a large, open, German themed restaurant with a big bar and lots of patio space. That's where we sat. The servers are friendly, attentive and helpful. We ordered beer, some lemony cocktail that came in a huge glass and pretzels. The pretzel come with a choice of sauces. I recommend the horseradish or the cheese, but order as many kinds as you like for a small fee. There were a lot of people here, but the place is so big it didn't feel crowded. We were only there for drink, but the dinner menu looked good too. Whether you've been to Germany or not, you'll feel like it's Octoberfest when you visit the Rhein Haus Seattle!

Staying in Capitol Hill area

By jpatrick28 |

Fun night at the Rhein Haus playing Bocci Ball and enjoying comfort food. Very relaxed atmosphere. Great, friendly service.

Great food!

By ShibbyOkGuy |

The food was excellent! We had a large group, so we kinda ordered everything. The Smorgesboard (sp?) Was perfect to split among 2-4 people. The menu items seemed authentically German/European. Lots of dishes included raddish, so if that's not your thing: specify. The drinks list from their full bar looked extensive, too. They even had Silver City Brewery Seasonal beers on tap!!! I will be back!

Great pretzel and drink options

By delphi927 |

An enormous space inside, with a great outdoor area as well. Prices were fair, the drink selection extensive, and giant pretzel was very good. Sadly, the goulash was terrible (the meat was chewy and fatty, and the flavor was all wrong), and the chicken schnitzel sliders were overcooked and gristly. Service was not particularly friendly, but attentive enough for outdoor seating. A fun place to hang out - we would return if in Seattle again.

Great bar food and drinks

By Mary C |

My first night in Seattle was cold, dark, and rainy. A lot of places were closed when my flight landed, and Rhein Haus was the only place that was opened. This place was pretty dark from what I remember but it was also pretty tasteful. There was a very large space and the bartender was very nice. He gave us great recommendations for the food and for the drinks. He was very prompt and quick with our orders. They had a wonderful selection of beer and different types of mixed drinks. We ordered an appetizer (I don't really remember what it was), there were three burgers on pretzel buns, and they were VERY good. There was just something so different about them from any other bar/restaurant would serve. If you ever come here, I would recommend order these "minature" burgers. It will be obvious because these were the only burgers as an option. For a cold, rainy night in Seattle, I was so glad that I ran into this place. Totally worth it.

Bigger & better than I expected

By Rob K |

Wow, this is a fun place! When looking at their website and on Trip Adv. I didn’t get a sense of just how big this place is. It is huge, with different areas, like a bocce ball area and a very long bar. The food was top notch German fare and the service was just as good, very attentive and fast service. Definitely start with a pretzel, it is a little oily but so delicious. It is always a good sign when the Manager makes his rounds to all the tables and they did this here, and he was charming.

Good fresh German food

By Steve S |

It was the first time I had been here. I am a big fan of German food that I developed during the years I lived there. It was pretty good, they had some interesting non-alcoholic drinks. The server was prompt and friendly. The atmosphere was good. There was live Bavarian music when we arrived. They had TV to watch and games to play. Outdoor seating if you choose. It was a good experience.

This place was so much fun!

We were visiting Seattle from London and we had great experience and enjoyed some lovely cocktails, if you go please try the Beet Mule. There was a very nice vibe and we felt very welcomed.

Nice Biergarten, excellent German fare

By Seattle_Hiker |

We last emptied a Steinkrug at the Rhein Haus when it was called Von Trapp. Our millennials, both with German connections, met us for a couple of beers. Nice selection of German and local brews, and loads of younger folk crowded the benches and provided more than their share of Gemütlichkeit. Improvements include indoor and outdoor bocce courts, an expanded menu, and a great selection of beers. Faithful companion had a business meeting on Capitol HIll, and so we headed to Rhein Haus for lunch. Street parking was ample. Just don't forget to pay in advance and post your sticker! We took seats in the Biergarten, where two huge screens were showing the first round of the women's World Cup. Service was prompt and courteous. Companion ordered the brat platter, while I went for the Wiener Schnitzel. The Schnitzel was a tad overdone, a bit dry, but luckily I had enough beer to compensate. We were hoping for a good Bock or at least a Dunkles, but had to settle for a porter. Friendly advice: add an Optimator or a Salvator for those of us who are missing the Old Country. Pleasant, good-tasting, and fun. And the U.S. women kicked butt. What else do you need?

Fun Biergarten atmosphere

By Brad M |

If you have a thirst and hunger this is the place. Fun, lively, loud, active, beer and brats and more.

Went for the pretzels

By Allie G. |

Food was amazing, we'd recommend the giant pretzel with multiple dipping sauces! Sat in the bier garden then moved inside to play bocci ball, so fun on a quiet Monday night.

schnitzel was excellent

By K212aren |

The food and drink were excellent. The pork schnitzel was so very tender with great flavor. The atmosphere was fun.

Delicious authentic German food

By Bonnie M |

We were visiting and my husband got a hankering for German food. This place was a gem. What a cute part of town-kinda Berkeley feeling. All four of us loved our dishes (a rarity). Great beer selection. Easy parking.

Not authentic German food, but was ok.

By Gwen G |

We had the Goulash, Chicken sliders and frankfurters. Interesting to watch the Bocci. Open tables, inside and outside seating. The food was ok, prices reasonable. Across the street from the university - so a college bar atmosphere. It was ok.

Excellent Food

By Wesley R |

This was by far the best restaurant we ate at on our recent trip to Seattle. The drinks were ok, but the food was good. The staff and service could definitely have been better, but again the food was good, which is hard to find.

Cool Place with Bocce

By 5576miked |

I went there to have a drink and play bocce. It was awesome! The food was great. It was a cool atmosphere. Cool people there and great staff.

Germany in 'Seattle

By John S |

Went here while on vacation in Seattle. My niece recommended it. Huge indoor space, seemed even more huge with the COVID spacing. Big beer selection and all the German favorites. Very unique so worth a visit.

Very fun team event!

By Maria B |

Rhein Haus is a German-style joint in Capital Hill in Seattle. They advertise as "Beer, Brats and Bocce" and that's exactly what it was. I took my team of 20 here for a team-building event and we had a blast. They open at 3pm but we paid for them to open early and reserved 2 bocce courts next to an area that was reserved for us and our food (for after it opened to the public). Food was great and included platters with different types of German sausage, fantastic German flatbread (really just pizza but really good), sauerkraut croquettes (much better than they sound), fried chicken with German pancakes, chicken schnitzel sliders, and German donuts with chocolate sauce. We also had an open bar, making the bocce games a lot of fun! It wasn't cheap but my team may have gotten carried away a little with the drinks - it's possible to put a cap on the bar tab which would have been a good idea. Also having to pay to open early and to reserve the bocce courts added to the tab. All in all my team loved it, it was very easy to organize and the staff were friendly and efficient. Check your bill though - several dishes I ordered were never served but we were charged for them. I was keeping track so could let them know and they very quickly adjusted the bill, but if I hadn't noticed we would have been overcharged. Also the platters are large, I over-ordered, so might be best to order as you go if you don't have too large a group.

Typical German/College Drinking Hall

By Alfredo H |

Nice German aesthetic with underwhelmed college staff/service. Beer, pretzels and bocce ball with beer garden and World Cup viewing. Beer garden closes at 10pm and no smoking.

Bavarian beer hall

By loveDCA |

Rhein Haus has the energy of a Bavarian beer hall - and the beer selection - but also has a sports and entertainment pub feel to it. Prices aren’t cheap but the beers are tasty and come in a large mug. Great service. By the way, the outdoor lawn bowling costs money and can be rented inside.

Looking for Authentic German Food...this is not it.

By 6Wallys |

I had high hopes to enjoy a tasty German meal. This place butchered it. They tried to make it too “artsy and authentic” German food is basic. Tasty pretzel - that was good, no one needs the 4 sauces with it. When the pretzel is good, don’t need any crap added. The pork schnitzel came with apples cuttings on it...just give the schnitzel with pommes and a little lemon yo squeeze and that is authentic! Don’t try to hard. Overall not bad. Come and have a few pretzels...and it was overpriced!

Beautiful space

By Hayley B |

My friend and I came here for dinner. Was pretty excited because I've had my eye on it for a while. She got the pea and cucumber soup and beet salad. I got the goulash and house salad. Her draft was great as was my cider. The food was great but the beautiful interior was especially nice.

Very hot inside but good food

By Ninjakat57 |

Had a meat and cheese tray and split an entree but it was so hot inside it made eating less enjoyable. The food was good and service decent. Could have used a water refill but didn't check on us often enough.

Serious Brews, Brats and Bocce at Rhein Haus Seattle

By Nelson J |

Rhein Haus, with other locations in Tacoma, WA and Denver, CO, is an inviting German-style beer hall with laser-focus on beer, brats and the Italian game of Bocce (please, don't call it bocce ball). Bocce is the game, the equipment used to play bocce are two types of balls, bocce balls and the palino (marker ball). It's similar to shuffleboard and the indoor courts at Rhein Haus are covered in artificial turf and a great intro to an excellent game that can be played while drinking beer.. As for the menu at Rhein Haus, tasty sausages meet a deadly-serious beer list. I went on a Sunday to do some day drinking while watching sports while a kid was at a sport tryout nearby. I appreciate a place that offers 12-ounce beers, as well as 1/2 liters and even the legendary boot (large vessels shaped like a boot). The Sunday brunch menu of 2 eggs, sausage of your choice, hash browns and a hand-twisted pretzel was excellent hangover food - tasty, salty, slightly greasy and just the ticket to enjoy with a beer or three. The dark lager (lager beer brewed with a touch of highly toasted black malt) from a Czech brewery was excellent. Looks dark and gnarly but goes down crisp and smooth, like a lager should. Also sampled an unfiltered pilsner, which is unusual. There were so many beers and not enough time, so I look forward to returning someday soon. The expansive space is perfect for groups and pre-functioning for sporting events or weddings. Since it was a sunny fall day, the large patio was open, though it was cool enough and the many TVs were showing NFL games from all over the country. As such Rhein Haus is a bit of a game day destination for Seattleites who grew up in other cities and want a festive place to follow their home team. Servers on Sunday in early November were EXCELLENT! Super friendly and well-versed in food and beer options. When queried they offered input based on authentic experience and enthusiastically said, "Yes! Try that one... it's one of my favorites." Rhein Haus is a fun spot with plenty of choices, all of which are good!

Team Building with Bocce & Brews

By ScottD58 |

Nothing like a little lawn bowling to get those competitive juices (ah brews) flowing! Bocce is so easy to play you’ll have trouble blaming your poor performance on your old sports injury. If you can bicep curl a mug of beer, you can bocce bowl. Great way to team build for just $10 an hour plus the price of a beer and pretzels. Unless of course your playing for brats.

Very enjoyable

By Al S |

First time and give this place 4 stars...we had Goulash soup ,schnitzel, with spatzle, the food was excellent. This is a huge place, with several Bocce spots. The service from Matt was perfect

Their tagline: Beer, Bocce and Brats says it all

By Betulaceae |

Great after work spot to sit in the beer garden get some awesome sausages, watch the bocce game and unwind after a hard day. Great beer selection and better sausage selection!

Loved this place

By TallieB |

We went to Rhein Haus to meet our son who lives near Seattle and visits there often. It's a place that apparently really livens up in the evening. A great bar scene. It, of course, has a warm German bier garden atmosphere. A lot of dark wood. A bocce court and I think other games inside. The local beers we tried were great as were the little pretzel bites that came with all kinds of yummy dipping sauces.

Fun atmosphere and awesome pretzels

By globalgal90 |

This is a great place for a fun time. Play Nicci and other games. I love enjoying the summer weather in the Bier garden. Great beer, wursts and pretzels. Good for a large group. Probably not good for kids.

German Sports Bar in Seattle

By Travis H |

This place was on my bucket list for my trip to Seattle. University adjacent and with some space for games, I think it is supposed to be a kind of party joint, but of course being there in the midst of COVID-19, it was pretty laidback. The decent beer list and traditional German fare make it worth the visit. Not too into the sports bar vibe, nor was I opposed to it. I pretty much ignored that and focused on the food and beer. The safety/sanitation procedures seemed to be good.

Had a Great Time With My Kids

By debonvine |

My adult children and I went to the Rhein Haus for dinner while visiting my daughter in Seattle. This place is within walking distance from her apartment so she visits often. We enjoyed outdoor seating on a lovely warm evening in late June. The waiter was quick to check our table for drinks while we looked over the menu. There is something for everyone, including vegetarian options for my daughter's roommate. Big TV's everywhere to watch sports action, but not intrusive for those who just want to enjoy each other's company. Food was yummy and not pricey.

Very nice and pleasant

By sleepy1492 |

Stopped in on a whim and was impressed! Pretzel and spatzl were great. My bratwurst was exceptional and everyone else was very pleased. I wish the draft beer was colder but i always like it colder. waitress was good and there was a lot of fun going on.

Relaxed fun place for friends

By MozT |

Good food and chilled place to hang out. Alternative to a pool bar as Boche Ball is easier to socialize around for group. I had the doner kebab which was great. Good selection of German beers too.

Lots of fun!

By Thomas D |

Had a great time, good food. The Bocce ball was great fun. Can have just drinks, food or both. Great fun for groups.

Great service and pub food

By Mike W |

Took wife and daughter last night for first time here and had pretzel and then a nice bratwurst - our server had a great attitude and was very attentive- great beer selection too!

Superbly mediocre food

By migratoryley |

Beer is decent. Bocce is cool, although floor isn’t flat. The food man. The food. It’s dog food. The worst I had in my life. The pizzas were all salt : so salty I couldn’t finish up a single slice. Sausage was absolutely average. We had some potato balls with some kind of meat inside that sincerely even animals wouldn’t eat. The marinated chicken and the donuts were the only eatable things. I’m not sure how this place has so many good reviews, I’m guessing people go there to drink, and not to eat, which is a smart move.

Her last visit there was for a birthday great pretzels great Brotz great beer if you like German you need to go there

Fun German Atmosphere

By Traveler860_203 |

Rhein Haus has A cool German atmosphere and great Decour. Not only do they have a great German feel but they at in games and an outdoor area that is very nice as well. The bar is very big, and The bartenders are excellent. We actually have the opportunity to meet a bartender from New York who is living in Seattle for the last seven years. The bar was a great experience and we would definitely return there when we get back to Seattle

Ok German Restaurant

By reisenderjo |

Great place with Bocce lanes inside, cool deco. Food was not bad but if you are longing for some authentic German specialities at a decent price you might be disappointed. The pork Schnitzel is well done and crispy but it's beyond me why they smother it with some garlicky sauce. Would be great to also have at least a side included for the $20 you have to shell out for it. Pretzels are tasty!

Good beer (bier) selection & get a pretzel

By Wanderlust_Bee |

Big place, you can sit in the beer hall (loud) or dining room (not as loud). A fun atmosphere and the food was good too. We had Fried Chicken, Wiener schnitzel and goulash and of course a pretzel.

Fun Bierhaus I’ll definitely come back to again

By SeaWAgirl5 |

I had no idea this was in Seattle until a friend suggested we meet here for lunch, but I really enjoyed it and I’ll definitely be back! It was actually their brunch menu when we were there (it runs from 11-3 on weekends) but there was both brunch and lunch style food offered. I had the pork schnitzel sandwich on a pretzel bun with fries. It was excellent! I also had the Hollundersaft (elderflower, grapefruit, lemon, and seltzer) to drink and it was nice and refreshing. Another of our group had the wurst on pretzel bun and also really enjoyed it. The other two had more standard brunch foods and they were also highly recommended. We were there early afternoon, and so we may have missed the brunch rush. There were other people there but it was not crowded, which was nice. Our waiter was attentive but not annoyingly so. He checked in on us but had no issues with us sitting and chatting after we finished eating. We ate outside in the biergarten area, but I walked through the inside and it was really well themed too. While it was hot and sunny, there were plenty of umbrellas and shade outside to help us try and stay cool. Our waiter also did a great job regularly bringing us more water and iced tea to stay hydrated with the unusually warm weather. There were some people playing bocce ball outside, but we weren’t planning to play so I don’t know how long the wait was (or if there was any wait). There were large tvs outside. We were hoping to catch some of the Olympics but this is Seattle and since they love their football it was showing the Seahawks pre-season game instead. It’s in Capitol Hill, but a bit away from the really busy area, near Seattle University. There’s on street meter parking and none of us seemed to have any issues finding a spot. (I guess this was formerly named Von Trapps, so you may see if referred to under that name as well)

Great Beer Selection & Food

By Rsnic |

Had a genuine Double Bock -- which terrific. As for cuisine, you'd think you're back in Deutschland from the Currywurst to the Spaetzle to the wide selection of wursts, even including good ole hot dog. Throw in several bocce ball lanes and you have a great place for a meal or just to enjoy an evening

Excellent hang out spot

By x_mgmg_x |

Went there during a business trip with a group of around 15 people and we had an amazing time. Wish there was a Rhein Haus in Mexico because I had one of the best beers I've ever had, the place is very comfortable to hang out at, we spent the evening in the outdoor area where they have a nice an cozy bonfire but sadly they close it at around 10-11 pm and everybody has to move inside. I am vegetarian so I ordered the Veggiewurst plate, it was really good, my only complaint would be that the serving was actually not that big so I was still feeling a bit hungry after it.

Great Authentic German Food

By RJ Hofmann |

This is my favorite German Food Restaurant in the state of Washington that has very authentic Bavarian food. Great Pretzels, great bratwurst, the Wiener Schnitzel is my favorite. Great beer selection etc.

Authentic Beir Hall in the heart of town

By Austinmike28 |

This is a pretty cool place with a ton of local and German/European beers on tap. They have sit down and bar service as well, you can play bocce ball on their two indoor courts as well. The food was decent but with the beer flowing and general atmosphere it becomes better. I'd come back in a heart beat.

Great Wurst!

By RhinoLoe |

Met some friends here for dinner last night. I loved the outdoor patio area. Heaters provided and a fire pit too! If you like Bocce ball they have at least 4 courses. We saw a lot of people meeting their groups here to hang out. It is in a college area of town, so you will see a lot of people in that age range here. I had the Seattle Wurst. Great flavor with caramelized onions and a special seattle sauce (which I am pretty sure had cream cheese in it). I inhaled it. I also ordered a side of their mashed potatoes and these were worth a try as well.

Good Food, Wasn't feeling the German Vibe

By MrsOregon2009 |

The service was great, everyone was really friendly. We went here with a large group of friends that comes together annually, all of us having been stationed together in the U.S. Army, Germany. The menu was not quite as extensive as I would have hoped, the food was okay. I had the Scheinehaxe which was okay, a side of spaetzle which could have had a little more seasoning. My husband ordered a sausage with sauerkraut which he enjoyed. They had quite a few sausage options. I would have liked to see a bigger German beer selection. Decor was cool, prices were reasonable all in all we enjoyed ourselves.

Amazing restaurant, great menu and beer!

By Road Trip Explorer |

Visited with a group and was very happy about the seating options. Service was fast and courteous. The food was excellent and the beer options in .5L and 1L sizes were awesome.

You Better Be Hungry

By Tall66 |

Stopped in for Brunch and damn, was that a lot of food. This place is huge and even has Bocce Ball lanes in the back portion of the restaurant. Located right across the street for Seattle University, unless you want to get loud and drunk, forget going Friday or Saturday night. The German food was good but was heavy on the grease so none of us felt too good that evening. That being said, it is a fun place with a large selection and a lots of beer choices.

Fun Happy Hour!

By ksp51 |

Very friendly bartenders & nice selection of beers available. Interior does resemble a German beer hall even though we were told it was once a candy store. We had the sausages & they were very good. I also had the goulash which was piping hot & very tasty. There is a nice outdoor bier garten & there are bocce ball courts inside near the back bar, which is just beautiful. This area of Seattle is near the University & there are numerous bars & restaurants all around. Very clean area with good parking available.

Love Bocce Ball and this pub

By Mike B |

What an AWESOME pub to kill a few hours. I love themed bars and this one has Bocce Ball fields in it. Beer was fine and so was the home made pretzels. Was recommended by a friend and was not disappointed. Check this one out for a good time.

Beer and Bocce.

By John F |

Been here a couple of times. Haven’t had a bad menu item yet. Beer is good and cold and the wurst is the best.

Real German food from scratch

By Jose M |

Read a couple reviews here that said this is not real German food . They are wrong this is the real thing all the quests are made from scratch don't miss the spice smoked wurst, the frankfurter and in the weekends try the strudel great place just across the street from Seattle U

Good experience!

By Sagira J |

We had our team outing at this restaurant and it was super fun to play Bocce ball and enjoy the food. They had a burger and fries for vegetarians which is good. I wish they had some vegan dishes too. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful! i would go back again to play the Bocce Ball : )

Memories of Vienna

By DavidEllis1 |

This place brought back memories of trips to Vienna. The décor is outstanding German Beerhall. The food and beer were really good and reasonably priced. The indoor bocce ball area is really a neat touch. It was a fun place to eat.

A little dissapointed

By NevadadbaBrew |

We have been to several German Restaurants around the country and we found that the Rhein Haus was not really up to German standards. We ordered Schweinschaxe and when the nice waitress delivered it we were surprised. My Schweinschaxe had a splotch of red stuff on top and was surround by burnt spätzle. I've never had German noodles (spatzle) fried to the point of being dark brown on the top. I found out the red splotch was savory cabbage . Basically, the presentation of my meal was poor and the Schweinschaxe was average.. My wife's Schweinschaxe was no different. I also ordered 3 Nuremberg mini brats in brioche minus the marinated fresno & banana peppers. I was totally disappointed. The Brats were not only too spicy but dry, very little taste. I have sat in Nurnberg Germany many times enjoying Nurnberg brats and I can tell you the Rhein Haus Brats do not come close in taste. I will say that the beer was very good.

Excellent German food and beer

By Larry10803 |

Huge German beer hall style restaurant, with a variety of German style food. Big barn like atmosphere. There is an outdoor area, a bocce ball court, and a huge bar. Great selection of beer and German style appetizers and entrees. We had the Smorgasbord, a huge selection of German entrees, more than enough for 2 people to share, which provided a great overall taste of what they had to offer. We were there for an early dinner on a Sunday, so it was very quiet, but I suspect it can be quite boisterous and fun during main dinner service. Our server was OK but not exceptional. Had seen it featured on TV and am glad we experienced it while in Seattle. One can purchase wurst, sausages, and other foods to take home.

Fun Bar

By SHAWNA B |

Hadn't been here since it first opened years ago and it still has the same fun environment as it did long ago. The Sausage Sliders off the happy hour menu were very delicious, so many different flavors all at once and the Goulash was very good! My only complaint would be the long wooden bar height benches in the bar, they were so uncomfortable! there's no way I could sit on those for more than and hour.

Very nice

By Hannah W |

We stopped by on a Tuesday night and, unsurprisingly, the place was not very full. The bartender was friendly. I was greatly pleased by the variety of German and Austrian beers and had a Stiegl. The Lokal itself was quite large and I'm sure it is busy and full on the weekends.

solid food with nice atmosphere

By kate554433 |

Enjoy coming here for a drink or sometimes a meal. Menu is well marked for gluten-free. There are a lot of great beer options (and always a few ciders, too). Their house-made sausage and sauerkraut are really nice. There is outdoor seating and indoor/outdoor bocce courts. Have also been here to watch a couple of sports events.

Wie schön und genau...

By JL |

The bar has a wide selection on tap and full bar. The main part for non-drinkers would be the various wursts and sides. Spätzle is a must.

Oktober fest at its best!!!

By Ashton P |

We came here for beer and dessert and we did not order anything off of their dinner menu. The waiter we had was very knowledgable and quick to get us samples of different beer. I really enjoyed the beer I had (and probably a little too much). The apple strudel we ordered was delicious. The atmosphere is fun and upbeat.

Good food

By Jamie D |

I lived in Germany for many years and wouldn't call this authentic. The food is good YES all made inhouse... it has bocce ball indoors and out. The place is huge and fun atmosphere.

If you like German Food this is the place to go

By Lynn R |

Authentic German food awaits you at the Rhine Haus. The building is designed as a German chalet, beautiful bar with bocce ball in the middle of the restaurant. The beef goulash was amazing as well as their sausages. Outstanding customer service. We would highly recommend this gem.

good German food in a lively pubhouse

By Elizabeth M |

We ate here at 7:30 pm on a Friday night in June. It was quite crowded, although we didn't have any trouble getting a table. (The restaurant is bigger than it looks from the street.) We ate outside in the biergarten. This place definitely has a college town kind of vibe, and we were definitely the oldest people we saw (we're mid 40s) and the only family. Still, our server was friendly, and our food was good. The fresh pretzel was good, but not amazing. The spicy hot mustard had quite a kick. My teenage son really enjoyed his frankfurter. The fries were good. My beef goulash was delicious. The warm chocolate cake for dessert was just ok.

Acceptable Dining

By RayNomotoRobison |

Went there for dinner and first impression was that the place was huge with a nice, somewhat authentic decor. It did remind me of the Hofbraeuhaus in Munich which I went to as a college student in the late 70's. We found a table outside for our group of 9. The service was okay and the food was acceptable. As we were leaving - a little after 9 PM - there were 5 security people at the door. I had been told by my son that the place turns in to a college party spot and it looked like they were getting ready for a rowdy college crowd. I did notice a bachelorette party group come in about 15 minutes before we left. So if you are looking for an okay German meal go before 9. If you are looking for a wild party scene this is probably the place for you after 9. For me personally it is not a place I will rush to next time I am in Seattle.

A Hoppin' Place

By JimmyD66 |

A visit prompted by a walk by the day before found me at the bar watching NCAA hoops. Nice selection of draught beers and a food menu trying to be Deutsch. Just made happy hour. After that a Kolsch draft with curry wurst and a very nice burger. The pretzel bun was a bit much (only used the bottom part), but the burger was prepared as ordered and had a grilled burger flavor. The curry was pretty good, but I was more interested in how the brat tasted; and it turned out good. Remembering that I am 5000+ miles from Berlin helped the experience. Overall, I liked the venue - spacious, loud but not obnoxious. Plenty of TVs. I love the draught beer and the price was right. I was happy with the servers and greeting at the door. If you are in the area it is worth the visit. Return, I will.

Great outdoor area!

By Charlotte R |

If you go here I recommend going in the afternoon or during happy hour time and sit in the outside section! They also have a nice selection of beers and food.

Nice place in Seattle

It is as a nice place that I was invited in the 1st day in Seattle with my friends, we enjoyed in dishes and drink, I highly recommend it

College Kids Everywhere

By Shumira |

On nights/weekends this is a popular spot for kids who have only just started drinking. During the day it's a lovely open space with lots of small plate options and a range of drinks. After about 8 it becomes a pumping club.

If at first you don't succeed ...

By Lora F |

I was looking for a decent casual place for a family dinner on the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend. When we arrived the front of the restaurant was pretty busy, so we were glad to have made a reservation, but the crowd thinned out pretty well during our 90 minute meal. [It was a mini family reunion of sorts, and we went from apps through dessert so it took a while!] Anyway our server Tara was good -- efficient, checked in on us, got our orders right, etc. The young man actually bringing food to the table was a little confused, tried to give us a big plate of some other table's order when we had already completed our entrees, but he was pleasant enough. The food was decent. For apps the cured meats and cheese plate was tasty, pretzel bites OK. The Schweinschaxe fell off the bone, so tender. My doner kebab with lamb was all right, although I expected a more tender bite through the meat. Also at our table, the pork schnitzel and kielbasa, reviewed as "fine". For dessert we splurged on the berliners [along with Eddie Izzard joke time], chocolate cake and lemon icebox pie. Served on a plate smeared with delightful lemon curd, the icebox pie was the highlight. Don't know how authentic, but it sure was good. So, good service, decent food, one nice dessert ... an overall average experience. However, like I mentioned the crowd thinned during the course of our meal, leaving us alone at one point with one other table -- populated by half a dozen dudes apparently on a bachelor party tour. Seriously? The boots were passed and the sound got louder, which is fine. It was a celebration. However, when they started using foul and homophobic language ... in the presence of restaurant employees -- who did nothing, both our primary server and the young man delivering food -- well, that took our experience down a couple of big notches. Not sure we'll be back any time soon -- the food wasn't enough lure ... maybe if we get bocce-adventurous. That lemon icebox pie, though ...

Enjoyable

Went on Sunday late afternoon. Very casual and nice atmosphere. We sat outside at bar. Few people. Not a big bier list, about 6 drafts under restaurant name to choose from. Food we ate were the French fries w/ curry ketchup; Respectively good. And the spiral potato on a stick which was good. They had spicy German mustard to accompany it on request. Bartender Davie was nice and made us welcomed.

Excellent Kielbasa!

The service was very good and their was a very open and comfortable feeling to the restaurant. I enjoyed the German Wurst with French Fries and the horse radish was excellent...making me think maybe I should have gone with the Sauerkraut instead of the fries! The Beer was fresh and I really enjoyed my dinner!! Would be fun to come with friends in the summer and hang out in their beer garden.

Great Atmosphere, Food and Drink

I love everything about this place! Pros: -Great German Food -Great Beer selection -Very large and lively dining room and bar -Bocce courts in the middle are fun to play and watch. -Decor is really fun: Kind of like a warehouse with Chandeliers. Cons: -Cap Hill Parking: It's gross. There is a pay lot right behind it.

Great German joint

Made our way to this place for some good German beer and food. This place did not disappoint. They offer a wide selection of German beer and eats. From pretzels to bratwurst. This place is huge, we thought the outside bar area was a different place but were surprised to see it's all the same restaurant. They have two bocce areas one outside and one instead. There bar area is huge and plenty of seating. This is a great place to start the night off with especially in capital hill.

Great place! Music way too loud....not enjoyable.

We love this place and really enjoy the German food, beer and awesome beer garden atmosphere. However today there was a DJ and the music was so loud you couldn’t have any type of conversation, or even hear the server. In addition it was mostly rap music, would’ve appreciated more of a mix since it was an older over 50 crowd. Unfortunately after eating I could not wait to leave. Tired of screaming. I’m sure we will return but I will probably make sure there is no DJ next time.

Big Beer Hall

By cacadian |

Positives:Large beer hall with outdoor patio for non-rainy days. Decent selection of beer. Cheerful crowd. Negatives: Bar food was poor quality. I ordered the chicken sliders. Result - tasteless dry chicken patty on tasteless dry roll. Three dinky barely edible sliders for 11 bucks.

Large German fun with tasty food

What else is needed, this Haus has great selection of German Beers, a menu full of German style foods and even 4 indoor bocce courts and 1 outside. It truly has a great Bavarian motif. The only misnomer was that you need 3 people to order Das Boot. As overly cautious as I thought they were at first after a Liter of Dunkel I was in no shape to keep chugging had it wen a boot - thank you I say. The food was good - as a visited to Germany the taste was not exactly authentic but still was fantastic. The Ghoulash so good and the Seasonal Spetzel was phenomenal. I would revisit and recommend to anyone in the area a stop well worth it's weight in Wurst!

Beer hall/bocce courts/good food

By travelgalAvon |

This place is gigantic. Beer galore, bocce courts (never have I seen that in a restaurant) loud, tons of large screen tv's for sports. Had cheese spatzle, pretzels, grilled cheese, tomato bisque soup, chicken sliders. All were really good. The server Gabrielle was absolutely outstanding, As our daughter is a student at SU we will definitely return

Cold food

Beautiful place but no parking and food was cold. Seemed like there was a decent beer selection but I did not personally drink.

All-around fun

Rhein Haus offers good food, atmosphere and fun! The beer, cocktail, and schnapps list is excellent. The food is solid German fare, so I don't think it's particularly well-suited for kids. On a rainy day, the atmosphere and fireplaces seemed perfect. We played bocci - cheaper than bowling but not inexpensive ($8 per person for an hour) - and felt it was totally worth it. The courts aren't great (AstroTurf wrinkles) but we're amateurs and didn't care. It is a huge place so it's not the place to go if you're looking for intimate. Perfect for groups of 20 and 30 somethings looking for fun on a night out while traveling. Definitely not a cheap place to grab a beer but an excellent choice for our group looking for one fun place for some food, beer and fun on a Friday nighy.

Fun place, good vibe, tasty food!

Stopped for some lunch and was able to get a late breakfast schnitzel, a brawt. The food was good, not the best but flavorful. I love the vibe and location! Bocci Ball is a blast! The staff are excellent, and the vibe is excellent! Will be back!

Terrible food - certainly not even close to German food or any other nationality they claim - would not even to consider the food for your pet - stunned how they can stay in business E

Delicious pretzel and Impossible Burger

By Michael Maurer |

We came here for dinner with some friends wanting to try the Impossible Burger. We had the sharing pretzel with dips to start with and it was so delicious that we barely had place for the burger by the time it came. The service was great too, and I can imagine that if we'd gone later at night the atmosphere would be quite lively.

Okay beer selection. Absolutely

By Global_Grub |

Okay beer selection. Absolutely awful food. Ordered curry wurst and received average hot dog quality sausage. Super disappointing. Quite expensive as well.

Could have been better

By Mark R |

Could've been better Service was good, efficient etc. however, this is an Americanized version of German food. The brats are served on garlic type toast rather than brotchen. The German potato salad tasted like fried breakfast potatoes...very little vinegar taste, mostly just undercooked potato cubes. Beer choices are adequate. Skip dinner, have a beer and pretzel and leave it at that.

Disappointing food and service, poor German Beer selection

By SeattleKarl |

A few problems, first, certain days of the week you can only order on your phone, or by going to the bartender. Good customer service? I don’t think management really cares, they don’t respond to direct emails and virtually never respond on TripAdvisor or Yelp. Second, the food choices are limited and certainly not authentic German. The food was pricey and very, very average. When was the last time you had Bok Choy in a German restaurant?Third, German beers on tap are very limited. This is a German restaurant for Pete’s sake. Various German pubs in town offer a far better selection of German beers on tap. Ach du Lieber!

ok

The service was good, kind of not in the tourist part of town. The pretzel was very good with plenty of choices.
