Amazing

By pedersen2 |

First of all, our waiter was hands down the most sweetest most friendly person. I do not know his name, he didn’t have a name tag on but he was an African American male. He was lovely. Our coffee and water was always refilled before it could even be half empty - or half full :) We ordered the Benedict platter - with all of the Benedict’s and the apple pancake. Simply perfect, even down to the decorative fruit on the plate. If you are in San Diego, do yourself a favor and go there. We will definitely return when we come back to visit. Service was amazing, food was delicious

By Thomas |

This place is overrated, and prices are too high. I don't understand the hype. The pancakes were like someone would make in their kitchen. I thought they were dry and the toppings are not baked into the batter, just put on top. I'm glad we got there early and didn't have to wait because if I waited for this I really would have been mad.

What a pancake!

By ViaggiatoreGoloso |

What trip to America would it be without a pancake breakfast? Attracted by the great reviews I ate here some excellent chocolate pancakes, accompanied by whipped cream and maple syrup. Excellent dishes and short wait.

You have to try this place

By RC1969 |

You have to try this place out for breakfast. Great service and lovely food. Get the apple 🍎 pancakes a must! Enjoy!!!

Excellent breakfast, we went there twice!

By chief1966 |

I was in town for a conference and my wife attended as a guest. I searched for a breakfast restaurant and went to the Pancake House by myself. I ordered the Venice Benedict and have to say it is one of my all time best breakfast meals. I told my wife of the place and she went there as well and had an excellent meal. We went back the next day and enjoyed yet another great meal. Definitely a top breakfast place, you will not be disappointed.

Very good breakfast

By jj1337 |

Really great food. We had a small wait, but they seated all quickly. We sat outside and wee served quickly. Kids had choc chip pancakes, husband had French toast. All dishes were really good and large portions. Service was quick and friendly. I would recommend to families, even picky eaters.

Worth the wait in line!

By Jrhoades1 |

Seriously the best breakfast ever! The line was down the block to get in, but totally worth it. Once we were seated the service was fantastic!

Excellent Food!!!?

By Presto67 |

Spending three days in San Diego we went to eat at the pancake house twice. That is how good it is. The portions are huge and the price is reasonable. You get like six pancakes to an order. The BLT is humongous. This is a must go to.

Tasty

By Camtrip A |

Food was good. Good portion. Friendly atmosphere. Would go back. Definitely go at a time to avoid the line.

Baked pancakes

By Draghignazzo |

I decided to go wild and try something different and new: the baked pancake. Besides being huge, it is amazingly delicious. The perfect exponent of #foodporn. My choice was pecans with cinnamon.

Tasty and Plentiful

By M.T. |

Pretty good food, walked away happy. Son got the strawberry crepes adding bananas and chocolate chips. He liked it. The plate comes with two large crepes, plenty of food. I order the pecan/cinnamon baked pancake. It was large and tasty and was the size of a dining plate. Unfortunately, it was burnt on about 1/4 of it, charred black. It was large enough that I didn't need to eat that portion and still left full. We arrived around 9am and was seated within 10 minutes. However, when we left around 9:45 the line of folks waiting stretched nearly the entire block! Get there early or plan to wait. I'd go again, but will likely explore other options next time I'm downtown. I had a black coffee, son had a hot chocolate. Neither were remarkable, but tasted fine. Bill was around $50.

Best cakes in SD!

By Halen S |

Fantastic place to eat. Most of the time there is a line but Is all worth it? Can take a while depend on what you order but is always worth the wait.

YASC 2022 San Diego

By Susan G |

This place is amazing. So great we went twice during our week’s stay in San Diego. Highly recommend! Coffee … I literally dreamed about the coffee and couldn’t wait to go back again. Wait staff kind and courteous. Santa Fe Omelette… amazing! Corned Beef Hash top notch. My Colleagues raved about the potato cakes and pancakes. I’d go back in a heartbeat. Go!! You’ll be so glad you did.

Great Pancakes and wonderful coffee

By michaelmoss2017 |

We came back three times for breakfast during our 5 day in San Diego. The pancakes were great. They had some of the best coffee we have had anywhere. We had a breakfast this morning at a conference or we would have made another visit.

Pancakes okay

By betsnow |

We were in town again from AZ and I had to get my birthday blueberry pancake fix. Now, I generally would get one of their amazing omelets or the 49 Flapjacks which are tried and true but it was all about the blueberry pancakes for me this day. They serve it with compote (which I am not into) but they do bake blueberries into the pancakes which is my jam along with some maple syrup. I was disappointed in the very sparse tiny blueberries in the pancakes and the pancakes themselves were lack luster. Honestly, I think the ones I make at home are better. Maybe things have changed with their food distributor since I was last here. My husband did an omelet, it was delicious and I did order a side of bacon which I had asked to be crispy... it was not so I sent back for more crisp. Service was fantastic, the gentleman waiting on us was super attentive and very nice. If I come back, I will go back to my old standby orders.

Nice San Diego breakfast

By Amie |

Great service, food was tasty and the prices were reasonable. We went at a busy time and didn't have to wait to be seated.

Great place for brunch in a beautiful downtown setting!

By Pamela A |

This restaurant has a lot more than pancakes. Lots of great options for kids, too! The service and the coffee were great. They had crepes, corned beef hash, and a variety of pancakes.

Delicious breakfast, walking distance from convention ctr.

By Sleeper22 |

Walked here for brunch on a Tuesday. Not as busy as Sunday where the line was down the street when we drove by. Service was great, fast and friendly. Food was excellent and very filling.

Great place for breakfast

By happytraveler2010_10 |

The breakfast menu is expansive with something for everyone, omelets, all kinds of pancakes, etc. Our food arrived fast and was well prepared and tasty. Come early for breakfast. We got in right away on a Sunday morning at 8:00, but while we were there a line formed around the block of people waiting to get in.

Decent breakfast

By A1STAT |

This was my first time eating at the restaurant. I ordered 2 fried eggs, bacon and hash browns. The food was good but not worth $45. However it is still good choice for breakfast.

Traditional breakfast with large portions

By Shannon4343 |

We arrived around 10am on a Saturday morning to a long line. It went surprisingly quick though. We probably only waited about 20 minutes. Service was great. I was excited to have a gluten free waffle. They also offer gluten free pancakes. My husband had a Mediterranean omelette. It was huge. We shared his hash browns. Many guests were taking food home with them. Excellent breakfast.

Russels the BEST

By ChioTravel |

Have eaten breakfast all over the world Russell’s San Deigo was without doubt the best menus & food. Don’t miss the Belgian waffle with Marianated cherries. No syrup needed.

AMAZING

By Shenelle_dior |

This place was amazing. The food was impeccable and satisfied my taste buds. The staff was friendly and it did not take long for us to be seated either.

You must eat here!

By Phil L |

I had the German pancake and it was so good, I went back the next day to try the apple pancake. Both were out of this world. Highly recommend!

Too much hype. Not worth the wait.

By Travelblast |

If you like sweet breakfast food, brown sugar, and cinnamon, this is the place for you. Be prepared to stand in line as this is a popular location. Their baked pancakes look impressive but I found it too sweet for my tastes. We also tried the more savory option of spinach & mushroom crepes, but I cannot recommend. Filled with raw (not sautéed mushroom) and processed cheese food instead of real cheese. Crepe itself was too sweet for this combo. Ordered side of bacon (delish) Also tried potato pancake which was micro diced potatoes (still nearly raw) and onions — whole thing close to burned on outside and seemed raw inside. I am surprised the reviews for this place were so high because I honestly didn’t have hunk anything we tried was very good. Possibly not worth the wait.

Large portions, chewy pancakes,

By Heidi S |

Large portions, chewy pancakes, omelettes with not enough cheese. Ok, but not a favorite. Close to La Jolla waterfront.

Perfect breakfast

By Tomtomaz2 |

A neighborhood restaurant, off the beaten path, but well worth the trek for anyone..pleasant indoor and outdoor seating..staff was wonderful and attentive...but best of all food is awesome...had omelette which was huge and filled with fresh vegetables, thick tasty applewood bacon..pancakes to die for and very fresh fruits..we walked 2 miles to get there...helps to walk off the calories ....will do it again tomorrow

Delicious

By Irene I |

The staff was very friendly and accommodating as well. I ordered the Avocado Toast Flight. I would recommend it.

Mediterranean omelette and apple baked pancakes

By MGWG |

The Mediterranean omelette was delicious. We split the order with a side of pancakes between two of us. The breakfast was so good that we came back every morning that we were in town for a conference. One day I tried and apple baked pancakes which were delicious as well. This place deserves its 5 * rating. I'll be back whenever in the San Diego area.

Always a recommendation

By Carsten P |

Great service, fast service and a fantastic breakfast. That's all I can do. Ron was incredibly friendly and quick. Definitely an experience.

Go for the pancakes

By Coralie-pf |

The queue is definitely worth the wait (about 20mins). Here, it is recommanded to try the baked pancakes which are enormous!!! I also loved the french eggs benedict (mushroom and spinach)! We couldn’t finish everything and they provided us with boxes to go !

Discrimination alert

By E. Z. |

The staff and manager were discriminatory and refused to seat me. I have never met such unreasonable and irrational people in my life.

good but too busy..

By Traveler62France |

pancakes were good but not enough hot, we ask three times for pekan waffles and we get bacon waffles... service was not good

It’s SO good!

By atlas993 |

OMG-this place is so good. My husband and I ate it over 11 years ago and it was better than I remembered it. We got there around 7:15am on a Sunday and had no wait, but by 7:45 the place had filled up and there was a line. I got the bacon waffle, my husband got the breakfast burrito, and the kids got the chocolate explosion crepe and chocolate chip pancakes and everything was so fresh and so good! Our server was super nice and attentive too. If you’re in the area do yourself a favor and eat here!!

Interesting menu

By linda M |

Slightly more than we usually spend, but food was outstanding and there are many interesting choices.

Deeeeee-lish!

By Andreajmar |

Excellent breakfast place. I had the spinach crepes and my husband had the corned beef and hash. Amazing. Great latkes too!

Portions not for the faint hearted

By Martin V |

Having read a number of really positive reviews on this restaurant I decided I'd try this for breakfast while in San Diego. Given it was a Sunday morning I wasn't surprised we had to wait for a seat, but the wait wasn't too long. What the staff do well though is check how many were in the group - it's easier getting a table if you are a couple or a small group. The choice of food itself was good and the quality of a really good standard. As per the norm when visiting the US, the portions were massive - something which takes a bit of getting used to in comparison to Europe. We had a mixture of omelettes and pancakes, all of which were really tasty and filling. They were good, if not exceptional. The service was also pretty good, with attentive staff and relatively short waiting times despite how busy the restaurant was. Overall, given it 5 stars, though in truth probably a 4.5. Definitely worth a visit though as arguably the best breakfast restaurant I've visited in San Diego.

Great go to for a solid breakfast

By Ben_Smith |

Came here for breakfast mid-week about 9 am. We were seated quickly and our wait staff were excellent. I love the variety on the menu and the non-dairy options (you can have eggs cooked with olive oil). We have been to Richard Walker's only 2 times and both have been great. We made it a point to go here because I love it. We don't eat very healthy because the pancakes are good and the coffee is too but oh well. :-) I like the pancakes with cherries but that might not be for everyone. The food is reasonably priced and they don't charge you weird service fees, etc. It's just a straightforward breakfast place. Please keep it up!

Wonderful experience inspite of the ComicCon crowds and delicious apple pancakes!

By AletheaL3 |

We are in San Diego for ComicCon and we went here for breakfast. There was a line when we arrived at 7:45 AM but the staff were very efficient at moving the crowd. One person went down the line noting the size of the group and handing our menus. Our server, Santiago, was quick, attentive and efficient. My husband, daughter and I ordered the apple pancakes (my daughter and I split one) with a side order of bacon and breakfast sausages. The apple pancake was delicious. We plan to come back tomorrow to try more things on the menu!

Great breakfast place

By DeeAnn M |

We passed this place many times and there is always a wait so we knew it was probably good. Our visit was during a peak morning time and the line was there but it went very fast. The staff here works hard to get folks in and out. The menu offers many great breakfast options and of course the pancakes are a "must have". Portions are big and the pricing is fair given the quality and amount of food. We had a very good breakfast and definitely recommend this spot as it is much cheaper than the same meal at one of the resort hotels close by.

Amazing!!!

By Melinda |

The food is cooked fresh, you will leave so full like it’s Thanksgiving ;) My husband had the German pancake and he couldn’t finish it! The portions are so large, it’s amazing! We highly recommend eating as much as you can there while on vacation

Great American breakfast

By Ste8583 |

We found this place for the breakfast with TripAdvisor and we can confirm the positive feedback … we went every morning and it was very good. The portions of the plates were huge but everything was very good. The service was also great, the waiters were very kind and refilled the coffee as soon the cup was empty. Cool!!

Worth waiting in queue

By dxbdoc |

When we arrived I was shocked to see the long queue of epole waiting for their turn to get a seat. We decided to stand in queue and I am so happy we did don't regret it. Ultimately we sat outside. The service is swift and efficient and the portions are huge. The signature pancakes and the burrito with scrambled eggs were really great. You get free coffee refills as well

Amazing Breakfast!!

By Sinatralis |

Stopped here for breakfast amazing menu and amazing pancakes I have never tasted pancakes so delicious. I would suggest trying the blueberry pancakes fresh blueberries. They have eggs omelettes crêpes, pancakes and waffles. The coffee is delicious as well. They have indoor seating and also outdoor seating and the service was great I would definitely go back here again for breakfast. The selection of different omelettes and different pancakes was very nice. Easy to find because they also have signs on the sidewalk pointing to where you need to turn which was fantastic.

the waterfalls that are breathtaking

By Louna P |

Hello I had a wonderful day. I love a little fish I loved the beautiful waterfalls The guide Richard is funny . On the other hand the road is long but it is worth it because it is extraordinary. Richard

Super food and service

By CapDeathCarpet |

Fantastic breakfast and service. We went on a wet Wednesday morning and were lucky the queue was pretty short, menus were handed out to those waiting to be seated which was really helpful. There's a great selection of dishes, we ended up having a corned beef hash and a bacon, eggs and pancakes. The was tasty and plentiful and the coffee was really good, the server was great and really earned the tip.

Loved Richard’s Walkers Pancake House

By ladybug5 |

The only downside to breakfast was it was expensive The pros the food was great and portions large The orange juice was fresh but cost $7.25 We ate outside and really enjoyed the experience We will return It was the best meal we had in San Diego It is popular and does get busy

Yummm!!

By Stacey J |

We decided to give this a try because the reviews were so good and it’s within walking distance from the Grand Hyatt where we were vacationing. We expected the wait in line but it was not more than 10-15 minutes. We got an indoor seat which was fine because we didn’t feel too close to other people. Outside seating looked more crowded so we were fine. The bacon waffle was DIVINE! The egg was perfect. My friend loved her eggs Benedict. Our server was the best! Very attentive and caring. We were completely satisfied! We were so full we didn’t want lunch later.

Delicious food & fantastic service!

By kkbtravelin |

The breakfast was so good the first time with my spouse that I returned with a colleague later in the week. The waffles and French toast didn’t disappoint!

Better than promised!

By Melissa B |

Had late Saturday breakfast--definitely worth the wait! Ordered apple pancake/fritter and an omelette--excellent on all counts and service was efficient and quick. My dining partners had to bring home half of their apple dish--they were so huge! Very tasty, think sliced bacon as a side served all 3 of us and extremely reasonable.

2 stomachs needed!

By Diamond11211 |

Awww man so worth the wait, line wasn't long at all. The pancakes tasted like buttermilk cakes for real. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Glad we went.

SURPRISE! Here's your 5% surcharge.

By MSTRKRFT |

I got the thick sliced bacon and eggs for $17.95. It was overpriced but I enjoyed it. When I received my check I noticed a 5% surcharge was added to my bill due to "rising costs." You mean to tell me you couldn't factor that into the overpriced $17.95? That's absurd, but to top it off they have the audacity to put on the receipt your visit should not exceed 90 minutes.

Great food

By Yomama |

Great food. Lots of options. Very busy place. Parking is a major issue and a deterrent to having a great experience. So I would say it’s not worth the aggravation of the parking.

Really good, but not great

By Rachel548 |

Only waited about 15mins for a table and were seated at the outside sidewalk area. Orders were taken promptly and service was quick. They seem to turn tables over very quickly. Had crepes, French toast, and the pancake sampler. Food was very good but feels a little pricey even for San Diego.

Awesome Breakfast Place!

By Laura V |

We were awed by this restaurant so much, we ate there two days in a row. Excellent food and service. The staff is so efficient and well trained and friendly. We had a party of 7 and our orders were presented perfectly. The food was fabulous! It was the highlight of our trip. The eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, and hash browns were so good. The specialties were absolutely brilliant and delicious. There was always a line that moved fast. This one is on our favorites list!

A must do breakfast! Delicious!

By CarolenaCampbell |

Holy smokes this place is good!!! While on a family trip to San Diego we decided to try this place after seeing it highly rated on trip advisor and boy were we glad we did! In fact, we enjoyed it so much we went back again the next morning. Our server was fantastic and the food was amazing. A must go location.

Wonderful breakfast

By Sherie L |

We went here for breakfast 2 times. Both times, we had an amazing breakfast. Pancakes, bacon, eggs, Hasbrowns, and ham. We shared this the first time. The second time, we had omelets. The omelets are huge. neither of us could eat the whole thing. Soooo good. I would recommend sharing unless you have a huge appetite. My husband got the sour dough toast, and it came with a side of jam that was amazing. The coffee was just ok, but the Oj was good. Service was great. Prices are good for the area.

Great Way to Start the Day

By Cac1234 |

A breakfast at Richard Walker's Pancake House is a great way to start the day. If you enjoy pancakes this is your place. There are other items on the menu including waffles, and breakfast burritos; however, we really enjoyed the pancakes. The pecan pancakes are delicious! Add a drink and one is filled up for the day. The pancakes are light and fluffy, and served hot off the griddle. We returned a second time during our visit to San Diego and had the yummy blueberry pancakes. A line may form on the weekends but it is worth the wait.

Great Dog Friendly Choice

By JJLMc |

We had a wonderful breakfast on a weekend getaway. Best of all they are dog friendly and the staff was very accommodating for our dogs. It was late morning so I had skipped breakfast and had a Greek Salad and my breakfast aficionado wife had the German pancakes and was well pleased. I love coffee and hate another wise good breakfast experience with mediocre coffee. The coffee was very good. The portions were generous and the staff was friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

Small indoor dining and outdoor sidewalk dining.. just ok food.

By traveltheworld012 |

We were in San Diego for a work conference and staying at a hotel on the harbor. The 1st morning we ate at Cafe 222... I got sick from the food there. On the 2nd morning, Friday, November 17, 2023 we came here for breakfast. This is basically within the Historic Gaslight area. Out front they have a roped off area for lining up to wait for a table. We arrived about 7 AM and there was absolutely no line. Walked right in and were seated immediately. Though small inside it is nicely furnished. Apparently they specialize in crepes, but none of us ordered any. I like Corned Beef Hash for breakfast and they had it on the menu. They claim they make it from scratch in-house. I was not all that impressed, it looked and tasted to be just a smidgen above canned CBH. Also, I ordered eggs OE... they came over hard. Service is pretty good, but then we were early when it was not busy. As we left about 8AM there was a line of about 25 people. I guess it's popular...maybe for the crepes??

Favorite breakfast & best coffee

By Libbie64 |

After reading the great reviews, we chose Richard Walker's for breakfast after arriving at the airport our first day in San Diego. There was a line, but the staff brought out menus and the wait was only about 20 minutes. In spite of being so busy, the service was excellent. The food was delicious. We had never heard of a baked omelet - though it was one of the best omelets we've had. And the pancakes - loved them. The coffee was freshly ground and brewed and served with real cream. We liked it so much we asked for to-go cups when we left. We came back on our last morning of vacation and we'll be returning on future trips to one of our favorite cities.

Awesome breakfast

By smbnnp |

Found this restaurant on trip advisor - the wait was 20 minutes but is well worth it. Had French toast with a side of bacon. You receive your meal quickly and it was delicious. Will be back tomorrow for breakfast 😊

The breakfast pancakes stand out. The wait staff are aggressive with coffee refills. I like that. Just come early.

By Peter Kim |

After skimming the most recent Yelp reviews I was apprehensive: it's a popular place and our dining experience may vary and/or suffer. My wife and I, as usual early birds, arrived at 6:35 AM. There were plenty of empty tables and Stacey warmly welcomed us and instructed us to sit anywhere. We sat by the door. We got black coffee and water immediately. We ordered our breakfasts and waited patiently. Oddly, the two tables who sat 10+ minutes after, received their orders before us. Stacey apologized profusely. We were still cool, as these kitchen mistakes happen (hopefully not often). She kept refilling our coffee cups as her penance. When our orders arrived, we were excited. The portions looked extremely generous. My wife got some diced ham omelette dish and it looked like the birth of 2 dozen eggs; it may have been bigger than my head. She could not finish this egg monstrosity. I ordered sausage links, eggs over easy, home fries and an extra short stack of pancakes. I had to test the name of the restaurant, right? The sausage links were cold and disappointing; maybe I should have ordered the corn beef hash. My eggs were nice and runny. The shredded hash potatoes could have enjoyed more time on the grill. Alas I devoured them as my stomach demanded it. My three little pancakes were REALLY good. We got whipped butter, some home made berry jam and some terrible pancake syrup. Besides the syrup being watery (it had the viscosity of faucet tap water), the butter and jam were fantastic complements to the pancakes. Nice. Come early and you will experience a good meal here. I recommend.

Great breakfast

By Mike H |

Stumbled upon the restaurant as we walked in San Diego on our first day of vacation. Service was excellent and the food was the same. Always had a full cup of coffee. Strongly recommend getting a side of bacon

Rude staff

By Bishopton Traveller |

Walked to this restaurant, no line, went to the door and some really rude woman shouted at us to go to some roped off bit and wait… not the nicest welcome, indulged them by waiting at this rope whilst she pretended to do something else then ‘get round to us’. Spoken to like absolute dirt and sat at a table on the patio, waited 8 minutes, not one person approached us for a drink order, to say hello or even indicate that they’d be round to take an order. This place seems to get good reviews and if youre happy to spend a lot of money being treated terribly then fair enough, saw the food served to the table beside us and didnt think it looked nice in the slightest, so we left. Went to another place nearby called 222 and was treated like a human and served nice food.

YUM!

By Sue H |

Absolutely fantastic...everything; service (thank you Sandra), food, atmosphere, coffee. Everything was just super! The restaurant was busy but all the staff were handling it well, the food delivery was quick after the order was taken and my server even asked if I wanted some coffee to go. It's a great place all the way around!

Tasty!

By Marissol |

We arrived early and didn't wait in line. Friendly service. Wonderful omelette, soft and tasty pancakes. Coffee could be better.

I am still raving

By Pdonatyandkids |

We were here almost when the restaurant opened at 7 o’clock. Parking was on the street and we feed the meter as it was a Saturday. We were seated fast as we were practically opening them up but I can tell you within the time we were there the place filled up very fast. There were so many wonderful item on the menu to chose from. I had a baked pancake which was made with 1/2 apples and 1/2 pecan. My husband had a bacon and cheese baked omelette. Coffee was never ending. The service was wonderful. The portions are big. The baked pancake was so, so, so good; it was the best pancake I have ever had. Prior to leaving I was given a recipe card which I made as soon as I returned home (which was no where as good as the one made at the restaurant). The food is pricey, but you need to know there is a lot of it (no small portions here), the food was truly excellent along with the service; well worth the price.

You won’t leave hungry!

By kmcgehee5491 |

OMG! The portions are HUGE! There were so many delicious looking options it was hard to decide, finally decided on the pancake flight of 3 different pancakes; blueberry, pecan and bacon. My husband had the chocolate chippy, cherry and buckwheat. Of the 6 the bacon, blueberry and buckwheat were our favorites. Next time we will try the baked apple pancake -it takes 20 minutes extra and we were in a hurry. There was a line when we arrived but it moved quickly.

Nice choice for variety at breakfast

By Donna R |

Nice selection for breakfast. It wasn’t crowded at 7:30am on a Wednesday but you can definitely tell from the line set up that it does get crowded. I had the classic eggs Benedict which was good and the hash browns were excellent. Great service with a smile and very attentive.

Just great food

By g_money15 |

Just great food! The pancakes and fixing tasted like they were made in the south. The service was just ok but the place was packed and I was patient.

Travel to San Diego to eat here

By William L |

So good that I want to travel to San Diego just to eat breakfast here. Been here 4 time and no matter what I get they execute it to perfection. The baked pancakes are an amazing experience if you haven’t had it anywhere else.

This Place Continues to be our Favorite Breakfast.

By imub4ur |

We arrived at about 9:30 on a Monday, no wait. My wife had a perfect coffee with real cream, she loves it there. I had the baked pecan pancake and she had the children's silver dollar pancakes and a side of sausage. Since she has gastric bypass surgery, she just can't eat much. The food was excellent, service was too. I overheard someone at another table order an apple pancake w/ pecans because he couldn't decide which baked pancake to get. I might try that next time. Iced tea was good.

Great place for breakfast

By Chuy64 |

On my last morning before I headed to the airport for the flight home, I decided to go to Richard's Walker's Pancake house for breakfast. I had seen many positive reviews and decided to check it out. I heard it can get crowded in a hurry, so I arrived around and got seated around 6:45am and sure enough a few minutes later, lots of people began to show up. I had the two eggs and bacon breakfast with blueberry pancakes and the meal was delicious. I wished I would have visited this place more to try other items on the menu. I definitely recommend this place.

Splendid crepes

By Christi D |

Everything we had was delicious and the staff was wonderful! We walked right in to a table outside on a Thursday at 0800, but the structure for the line outside implied longer waits during busier times.

Oven Baked Omelette goodness 🤤🤤🤤

By George P |

Last day in downtown San Diego and was feeling some good comfort food for brunch. Say no more when you’re in the Gaslamp district. Ron took great care of us as we each got an oven baked omelette which was to die for. Side of pancakes or toast and we were in. Great service here and the food is great portions. I highly recommend the mushroom omelette which is a side mushroom sauce you can drench over your plate.

Raving review!

By Nicole K |

11/10. So good. The breakfast was high quality ingredients and the bacon was cooked perfectly. If you’re looking for a place to get breakfast that everyone will enjoy, this is the place. The service was top notch and very friendly, our coffee cups never ran dry. Highly recommend.

Delicious, very well served platters, new breakfast place favorite.

By Christian P |

Great food, good service, kind staff and food was served hot and in a short amount of time. We ordered the eggs with their house bacon (a very much worth it bomb of cholesterol) with a side of buttermilk pancakes (which were really good, fluffy and nice consistency, good flavor). The platter with 3 different kinds of eggs Benedict was also very well served and delicious flavor. Warning: plate sizes are big, ask the waiter if your plate can de shared.

Fast and delish

By P & G S |

We are our food so fast there was no time for photos. Don’t be alarmed by the line, it moves quickly. The cook staff have it down to a science and food gets out incredibly fast. We got the blueberry pancakes and breakfast burrito. I’d eat the burrito everyday for the rest of my life if able.

Very disappointing experience

By Joe C |

We found this restaurant online and thought the menu looked interesting. We visited for breakfast one weekday morning, and had to wait outside around 20mins for a table – so were expecting good things. The restaurant inside is small, tables were basic and service was pretty unfriendly and unwelcoming. We opted for a selection of Pancakes, Hash Browns, Bacon Waffles and Apple German Pancake. Sadly, all of the food was underwhelming, the pancakes although tasty had a very small amount of toppings and cream, the bacon waffles were basic, and the Apple German Pancakes were different to what we had seen on the website and others that were coming out of the kitchen, it was quite dense and mostly flat with a very eggy taste, we had to check with the server if this was how it should be and told it was – but it wasn’t really what we were expecting, and not particularly enjoyable. Overall the food was mediocre, the service was poor, no-one checked if we were ok at any points and when we asked for a soft drink, this was simply provided in a can, rather than a re-fill style soda. One of our most disappointing meals of our trip, and we will certainly not be returning or recommending.

Good solid breakfast

By karjor |

Really good and well prepared breakfast, nice large portions. Friendly and welcoming staff. There was no room outside, so we had to sit inside. Unfortunately, there was too much annoying noise in the room, not least from the kitchen.

Perfect place for breakfast

By Steven G |

An absolute fantastic menu with so many choices. Everything I’ve had was delicious, the only problem is choosing what to get. The coffee is top notch also.

Not the Best for the price, however......we will give another change

By Heartkrazy |

We were able to walk from our hotel to this restaurant for breakfast. We arrived around 8:45, just before the crowds arrived. We were seated outside which was fine, however be aware that when seated along the street, there is a breeze that comes up making it a bit cool.....I didn't have a sweater with me & could have used it. We ordered the standard fare in terms of food (corned beef hash & eggs with toast and egg & eggs with pancakes), 1 waters & 1 cup of coffee (small, I mean small cups....just warning you). When coffee arrived I had to request both sugar & creamer, which was met with a big sigh, like it was an inconvenience. I should have known that was a sign of things to come. My husband & I order our eggs "over medium", I asked for the bacon to be "more chewy, not well done", and the husband ordered sourdough toast. Our eggs were basically poached, the bacon was almost black & the toast wasn't toasted. We didn't complain, and I am not complaining now (merely our experience), as it was very busy by now & we were on limited time schedule. I am all for giving establishments the benefit of the doubt, and especially now because of the COVID situation. We will give Richard Walkers another chance when we visit San Diego next year.

Good food worth the wait

By Loreen B |

BOTTOM LINE: A great breakfast spot with great quality food and excellent service. Worth a little bit of the wait. We enjoyed our late breakfast here. We arrived at about 10:30am and we only waited about 10 minutes. Our waiter was David and he was super attentive. We had a variety of breakfast items. Pigs in a car (sausage links wrapped in pancakes) - pancakes were dry but the taste was great! German pancake is worth the little bit of a wait! Soooo good! And the lemon sauce you make with it is refreshing. Someone had scrambled eggs with cheese and home fries. One in our party tried the apple pancake and loved it as well. Lastly, we had someone have the raspberry crepes to rave reviews. All food was hot and tasty. Great breakfast and a good price (for San Diego, anyway!!)

Giant German pancake and good service

By Miryong S |

I was suprised the German pancake was so big and it tasted great also. Highly recommended for travellers ;)

Pricey but open early

By Gavin D |

Good food, coffee and service. A little pricy at $60 AUD for fruit plate, omelette and non- espresso coffee but they open early (6:30am) and have free wifi

Breakfast heaven on earth

By Jennifer Denise G |

Do not walk, but RUN TO THIS PLACE. The best pancakes and waffles I’ve had in my life!!!! Beautiful restaurant, very cozy, the staff are extremely friendly and efficient. The baked apple pancake is a must try. We were in San Diego for 1 week and had breakfast almost every day at this restaurant. Good prices, excellent food, excellent staff, beautiful atmosphere….oh, and amazing fresh squeezed orange juice😍.

Worth the wait!

By queenofhearts7 |

While on holidays, heard we had to try RWPH so we did. It was Tuesday am at 8:30 and the restaurant was busy. When we finally got our table after waiting for 20 minutes, a pleasant young man said it was busy because of an insurance convention, he was part of that. But omg, the workers and servers sure move. Our order was taken, we got our drinks and food came shortly after. We enjoyed French toast w/fruit, omelette, pecan waffle and ham & eggs and plenty of coffee. The rush was over and as we sat back visiting, we planned a second meal here but sad to say we didn’t get there.

Bad experience

By Palmer R |

It is rare to write a truly negative review but this an exception. We were seated first but the waitress took the order of the table next to us first. I advised the waitress that we were seated first and added that were in a hurry. The other table got their order first. The waitress proceeded to take the order of another 4 person table. After nearly 10 minutes, I asked another waitress for the manager. When the manager arrived another waitress brought our food. We explained our concern to her with a perfunctory "I'll speak her". When the food arrived, the poached eggs were soft boiled. At the end of our meal, I recalled the manager and explained about the poached eggs. Her response was asking whether I wanted her to cook them more. I declined. No further interest or comment from the manager. Poor service, poor food and poorer manager. Middle management sucks. No quality control.

ENJOY breakfast

By tampatowers |

Why EAT breakfast when you can ENJOY breakfast at Richard Walker’s Pancake House? When we visit San Diego, we visit here weekly. The restaurant is well-managed, so one can sit and relax and enjoy one’s meal. It’s an oasis of calm as the servers care for everyone. The dishes themselves are unsurpassed.

Excellent Dining Experience

By whatsurpoint |

Very friendly staff but notably the host was extremely welcoming. This seems rare these days. The service and the food were excellent. The coffee is also top notch. Will return soon!

WOW !

By jisantangelo |

The staff here really hustles. We had Texas French Toast and Belgian Waffles. The Waffles were originally overcooked but when they replaced them they were also excellent. Coffee was very good.

Great breakfast

By g_money15 |

This place has awesome pancakes and BAKED omelettes!! Yes baked. So delicious and located walking distance from anywhere downtown.

Stick with the special Pancakes

By caneguy |

Before an afternoon Padre game my son and I went downtown early to grab some late breakfast at Richard Walker’s. First time for me, but my son has been there before. The line was not to long on a Wednesday late morning so the wait was quick. We were seating in the outside patio area (our preference) and our server quickly came over to greet us and take our drink order. My son and I decided to split an order of pancakes and an order of eggs and corned beef hash. We did the “flight pancake” and got the chocolate chip, blueberry and pecan pancakes. The pancakes were good and we enjoyed them. The corned beef hash was not the best I have had (go to Beach Break Cafe in Oceanside for amazing corned beef hash) and the presentation was minimal. Overall we had a nice late breakfast but I think they could be better. Will go back again and try one of the special pancakes and write another review at that time.

Yum

By Lesley |

We had a mixed fruit bowl while waiting for the cinnamon apple baked pancake. Although we had to wait about 15 mins it was well worth it. For us 1 was more than enough. Everything was delicious

Outstanding Breakfast

By THwp |

Definitely outstanding for breakfast while in San Diego - plenty to eat - we had the Pecan / Cinnamon German pancake - couldn’t eat it all and best bacon in town. Service was excellent - never let my coffee cup get less than a 1/2 cup.

Stephanie & Maritza, worst service ever!

By Nomad Property Management |

I love San Diego, I came to this restaurant recommended by friends and although the food seems to be delicious, the service was terrible and very rude from Maritza and Stephanie (manager). I tell you, there was an open ticket and we were denied ordering more food because there was a waiting time. Not only that, the manager, very defiant, practically kicked us out of the place and started yelling at us as we walked out in front of the line of customers, a very unpleasant situation to say the least. This type of employee makes companies go down, this type of experience makes me have a bad memory of this place and I assure you that I will tell as many people as I can just for the fact of humiliating us in front of everyone.

Pleasant service, food errs on the side of big over better

By Kurt N |

Nice place for breakfast with good service. Mostly typical options for menu but portions are really large

Delish!

By NMgal4life |

There was a decent line when we arrived but we lucked out and were pulled to be seated inside early (the line seemed to move quite quickly though). Interior is very small and reminded me of a European cafe with tiny tables very close together but there is also covered and uncovered outdoor seating. Large menu with all the classics. I got the San Diego French Toast and was expecting 3 or 4 little pieces of fruit but it was covered in berries and bananas which was great. Service was efficient and coffee was good. Prices were reasonable given portion size. We will definitely come back the next time we're in San Diego!

Greet place to eat

By Alaa Y |

Amazing food , friendly waitress , good place to eat Recooked to try Note there’s a bit of waiting line. Try the German pie it is amazing

Best Pan Cakes

By Hari A |

Make sure you go with an empty stomach. The pan cakes are awesome and some are as big as a medium pizza and more filling. The "Danish Harvest" is like a huge meal. We shared Half Pecan pancake and had it for dessert. The Swedish Pan Cake is also excellent and so is the coffee and service.

Soooooooo good

By Jeanne' L |

Actually ate there twice while staying in La Jolla for the weekend. The food was wonderful both times and the service was good. The prices were a little higher than I would usually spend, but the great food made it all worthwhile.

Great for any time of the day place to eat

By Edson Raed C |

Food is great, portions are good, services is magnificent, location is excellent 😊 but tips are already included👎🏻 but overall is a place I recommend to anyone👍🏻👍🏻

Amazing breakfast!

By photoguy_60 |

Was recommended by staff at the Westin Downtown (great hotel and location BTW) as one of the best places in San Diego for breakfast and it did not disappoint. It was within walking distance from the Westin, which made it nice. While there was a line, we were seated fast. They followed all COVID 19 protocol and the service was fantastic. Never had an empty cup of coffee. My wife and I enjoyed the Venice Benedict and it was outstanding. We split a side order of their famous buttermilk pancakes and they were as delicious as advertised. If you're staying or living in downtown San Diego and haven't tried Richard Walker's Pancake House, I highly recommend you do. People who give this place a bad recommendation are crazy!

Our go to restaurant

By margaretr1417 |

Always go to Richard Walker’s if there is one around. Always torn between the delicious omelettes and the pancakes. Today I got the harvest bake (with light cheese). Fabulous!

Great Breakfast

By Keith A |

This is a popular spot, so line up early. The line moved pretty fast however, and was worth the wait! Great pancakes and all other breakfast options.

NY Breakfast meets San Diego flare

An awesome place for breakfast. Big portions, great service, tasty food. My wife said "That was one of the best breakfasts we've had in a long time."

A great place for pancakes!

By 50statestraveler |

Thanks to Trip Advisor we learned about this wonderful restaurant. When we first arrived on 6/14 around 10 am there was a family of 9 waiting outside. We asked if they were in line and they said "no, our party isn't all here yet so we can't be seated". There was no host or hostess outside or inside at the desk. We found a table for four but I asked if we were just supposed to seat ourselves. A VERY RUDE older hispanic female employee (manager perhaps?) scolded us in front of everyone, told us we had to wait our turn outside, and were not allowed to just walk in and take a table. She walked us out of the restaurant, told us where we needed to stand, and told us we would be helped AFTER the other family. There were several open tables. My first impression was not a good one and I wanted to immediately walk away and give another business my money, fortunately we stayed. A couple of minutes later, someone else came out and took us to our table, before the party of 11. Every other person at the restaurant went out of their way to smile, be friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We had the best waitress! Our food was amazing! I highly recommend their apple pancakes, they are the best I have ever had. My son had the chocolate chip pancakes which were delicious as well and my spouse enjoyed the buckwheat pancakes. The coffee and orange juice were fantastic. I definitely recommend this place, just don't be put off by a rude manager who could use some education regarding customer service and professional communication.

April 2022 trip

By John W |

This was a great place for breakfast. The coffee was fabulous. The pancakes were great. Had a great omelet. Did I tell you how GREAT the coffee is. This is an expensive place $$$

Best coffee I’ve had at a restaurant in years.

By jtmpIII |

Wife and I were very satisfied with the service, cleanliness and efficiency of this restaurant. The coffee and corn beef were both exceptional. You won’t be disappointed.

This breakfast restaurant is excellent…. You have to experience it for yourself

By Marna P |

This has to be one of the best breakfast restaurants ever! The food is excellent with big portion size. Their featured item is the German Pancake in which the have an instruction card of suggestions of how to eat this pancake. It was absolutely delicious! The service was excellent and there is always people waiting to be seated. I would whole heartedly recommend this breakfast place to everyone who come to downtown San Diego !!!

First time here

By S0CalTravelL0ver |

Came here for breakfast. The Danish Harvest was a very unique dish. Id recommend! It tastes like a potato pancake base with roasted vegetables and a slice of cheese. Almost like a quiché without being so egg based. Hashbrowns were great, I asked to cook them a little more and they did. The coffee did go cold.. the coffee cups dont seem to hold heat well. Service was great. This was recent to the pandemic so they were good about social distancing, spacing people, sanitation, etc.

Nothing to write home about

By Armando S |

Slow service, overpriced menu. I watched a couple walk out after waiting for service ...small portions that includes tea cup size coffee....food was just ok. We won't be back.

You got to go!

By Okie TK |

You will have to wait, but it's worth it. Unbelievable pancakes, and waffles. Once you are seated, the service is fast and friendly.

A lot of great comments but!!!!!!

By Truthfultraveler1 |

A lot of great comments about this place so I thought I’d give it a try. What I experienced was dirty outdoor seating, menus with syrup on them, iced tea which tasted like coffee, dry Luke warm pancakes and a waiter who didn’t much care. Oh yeah and they suggest a 19% gratuity.

Delicious and Unique

By Alice F |

The food was amazing. They have your typical favorites but they are just prepared a little different than usual. Nothing crazy, but very stimulating to the eye, the taste buds and the stomach. And Richard Walker seated us himself. He's friendly and easy going. What a delightful experience. We hope to go back this week before we head back home.

delicious breakfast!!! i had

By marinalebo |

delicious breakfast!!! i had mediterranean omelette, it was original, and very tasty! my family also had pecan pancakes, german, apple, hot chocolate, all was super sized and excellent!

Wouldn't go back

By Jessica D |

Portion size over substance. Tourist trap. Staff were friendly, so were the flies. Pancakes were average, nothing special. Would not go back.

So delish!

By Suzanne Rogers |

I had the savory crepe and it was very good! They are known for their “apple pancakes” and I saw one being delivered. It looked amazing! Service was good and you may eat inside or out.

Friendly!

By Team Mason |

We ate here with our dog at an outdoor dining table and it was fantastic! We can recommend the spicy omelette and the thick cut bacon and eggs. Really friendly staff, great atmosphere and reasonably priced. Would definitely return

Awesome Breakfast

By ALEX P |

Great place with a service team that works together to be fast, friendly and provide excellent service. Highly recommend. Will be back to try new things. Best pancakes and all types of waffles, Swedish Pancakes and traditional favorites. Big portions. Great!

Excellent for breakfast or lunch

By Anita S |

We live in a condo near Richard Walker’s and have eaten there several times. I was inspired to write a review today because it is such an awesome place for breakfast or lunch. Here are a few reasons why: the interior is well appointed with beautiful chandeliers and stained glass windows; it is spotlessly clean - the windows, the bathrooms, even the salt shakers - and the food is delicious. The staff is friendly, efficient and appropriate, The surrounding area is hosed clean and free of vagrants sleeping on the sidewalk and hanging out. It is a bit more expensive, but the portions are huge and I don’t mind paying a bit extra for all the pluses I just mentioned. Richard Walker knows how to run a restaurant.

Good

By Holly V |

We had the German Pancake and the southwestern oven omelet to share. The pancake was huge and delicious, but the omelet was lacking. It definitely needed at least salt

Fantastic Breakfast

By Chartbag |

Not much can be added to all of the other fantastic reviews of this place. The menu is extensive and the service is outstanding. The food of course is the reason everyone comes here and this visit did not disappoint. I went with the standard bacon, eggs and pancakes. All were perfectly cooked and tasty. The place usually has a line but it moves quickly. This place is a must visit breakfast/brunch/lunch restaurant.

A joke.

By Jacobo D |

Terrible. The food is at most ok. The service is terrible. I wanted to orden more food. They wouldn’t let me. Are you kidding? If I’m hungry y can’t order more? Don’t go. It’s really not worth standing 25 min in the rain.

Great breakfast!

By Kevin B |

This was a great breakfast! We stopped in on a weekday morning in November and got in before the brunch crowds so we didn't have to wait at all for a table. It was really nice to sit outside and our service was very good throughout the meal. We started with orange juice and hot coffee and their coffee is very, very tasty. I later found out that the cream is heavy cream and not half and half and that probably helps it taste so good, but we were on vacation, so it's all good. We got a nice spread for food including buckwheat pancakes (comes with 6), a Dutch baby, hash browns, and sausage links. Everything was delicious and we ate as much as we could, but the portions are generous and we couldn't finish it all; you can order a half order of the pancakes and I'd suggest doing that unless you're super hungry. The only little snag was that the sausage was a bit charred, but it was still tasty. This is a great breakfast spot and one that we'd definitely visit again!

Baked omelettes are out of this world delicious!

By LVE2GO |

Their baked omelettes are incredible!! I crave this dish and wish I lived closer! I haven't had the pleasure of trying anything else on the menu because I'm so in love with the baked omelettes. I can't wait until we can go back again.

Great service

By Daniel M |

First time at this chain of family restaurants, great place with an outstanding service. Food is just about average, nothing outstanding for me. Thank you

Great breakfast

By Scott&Yeonghee |

Outrageous pecan pancake. Greasy and delicious. Also tried the corn beef hash. Very nice. Good service. Worth a stop while in downtown

So Much Food!

By acedaughter |

You better be hungry when you go to Richard Walker’s — their breakfast serving portions are huge! I ordered blueberry pancakes and there were SIX on the plate! DH ordered the waffle sampler — you could pick 4 different flavors. Both dishes were good, but a little dry. The thick-cut bacon was awesome! Don’t be scared by the line — it moves fast.

Great place for breakfast

By @ 652lavettej |

I'm so glad I picked Richard Walker's Pancake House for breakfast. The food, coffee, and service was GREAT! Our server Jose was awesome

Come hungry, leave happy

By Amy A |

We enjoyed our breakfast thoroughly! The blueberry pancakes were some of the best I’ve ever had, and I highly recommend the Ultimate Benedict so that you can get a sample of all three best selling benedict dishes. Services was quick and efficient and we were greeted and served as soon as we sat down.

Great breakfast!

By Jeffberk81 |

Awesome breakfast. We had the silver dollar pancakes with bacon and an omelette. Pancakes were light a delicious. Bacon was cooked just right. Omelette was very good. Juice and coffee were good. Staff were friendly. Service was great. Highly recommend !

Finally, a great breakfast!

By Ron R |

We took the ferry from Coronado specifically to go to this restaurant and then spend a couple of hours walking the downtown and waterfront areas before returning by ferry. We’ve been trying several restaurants in Coronado for breakfast as well as some in San Diego when we have a reason to cross the bridge. We saved this one for a ferry crossing, because it is less than a fifteen minutes walk from the ferry pier. Our experience was, hands down, the best of all we have tried. We were greeted at the front around 9:30 AM on a Thursday and offered outside heated and enclosed seating or inside. We chose inside, and, fortunately, they had a booth available, because the tables for two are fairly small. Our server was superb and incredibly attentive, keeping the iced tea and coffee coming. The coffee was premium and the cream was real cream, something that is pretty rare these days. The iced tea was excellent as well. The place was super clean, as were the menus and table. The menu offerings was extensive. This was a weekday and by 10 AM the place was full and a small cue forming. Between us, we had scrambled eggs, eggs over easy, pancakes, hash browns and thick bacon. Everything was cooked to perfection and the syrup served hot. There is a difference in the taste of eggs done right and these were great. The pancakes were hot and flavorful, the hash browns fresh and real and the bacon supreme. It was a lot of food and the prices were very reasonable for an upscale place, with the pre-tip bill at $32 and change. I am not inclined to use a 5 rating unless it is truly deserved for all aspects of the experience. This rating was earned. We will be back for sure.

Breakfast for lunch

By fotokaren |

Around noon we stopped in after a walk around the village for lunch. I chose the eggs with thick bacon and a stack of pancakes. Everything done perfectly and fast. Spouse got the waffle combo platter and it disappeared quickly. Service was efficient and friendly. Would return next time in the area.

Very Good!

By Yuri |

Waited 10 mins for a table but totally worth it. Food was amazing and service was great. I will definitely be back for more!

Great breakfast spot!

By DL00 |

Great breakfast spot! Was a 30 minute wait on a rainy Monday at 9a, but was worth the wait for us. The best crepes I've had and the baked omelette was fantastic! Service was good. Regular pancakes were the only let down. Definitely coming back when I'm in town next. It’s right next to the children’s museum which was perfect for us.

Pretty Good

By mongooAtascadero |

I had poached eggs, toast and bacon. The eggs were done pretty well, the whole wheat toast was very good but the bacon was practically burned black and very dried out. Kind of surprised that they would serve something like that. Our server was gracious and quickly brought a plate of perfectly cooked bacon when we requested it. Man #1 had a Belgium waffle which he said was perfect. Man #2 had eggs Benedict which he seemed to enjoy. Outdoor seating was nice.

Enjoyed a hot breakfast in the San Deigo sunshine

By MichiganFloyd |

We sat outside for a late morning breakfast. The service was good, our breakfast (Santa Fe omelette w/ pancakes and banana pancakes) came out piping hot and most importantly delicious. The portions were also filling. One complaint is they added a $5 surcharge to the bill (price of eggs?). I still highly recommend.

Meh food - good service

By Corrina Lee A |

This is probably a 5 star joint if you like sweet breakfast. The savory dishes my partner and I ordered were not horrible but not great either. The hollandaise was sweet, which tasted hella weird and I did not enjoy it. The waitstaff were all really chill, the service was better than the savory dishes.

Worst place I have been

By Alexander K |

Bad service, bad food, waiting breakfast for an hour. And it was near launch time. And in the end it does look bad and dirty

Delicious breakfast

By Marie-José P |

Fast and Friendly Service. Good card with lots of choice! Great value for money. I couldn't finish it, my 19 year old son didn't manage to eat everything!!

Not just your ordinary pancakes

By anita e |

We were thinking it was just another breakfast place downtown San Diego. It's in a business building nothing fancy, basic patio. The smell as you enter the doors is an entire different experience! They are not your ordinary pancakes and a plethora to choose from. We couldn't decide, our server suggested the massive German pancake which was light fluffy. The fresh lemons and icing sugar you add was the perfect touch. We shared the 12hr slow roasted cornbeef hash which was excellent. Definitely share and Definitely recommend. We didn't wait long even for a Sunday but do be prepared there is usually a long wait, but worth it!

Simply Delish!

By Christina T |

We came during the morning rush, after a little wait outside we were seated with the friendliest staff. Food was served warm and tasted great. Food portions were large.

Good service; marginal taste

By Double0Seven |

Richard Walker's Pancake House knows how to serve a large number of customers in a fairly small restaurant. There is usually a line to get in but it is processed fairly efficiently. The service was good and appropriately attentive. However, one of the two dishes we were served--blueberry blintzes--tasted "off" and was simply unpleasant. We left most of it behind.

Best breakfast in San Diego!

By Rob B |

Best breakfast in San Diego! Their selection of pancakes and the like is amazing. And really good bottomless coffee!

Amazing breakfast place!

By Christine B |

Amazing breakfast! Best I’ve had in a long time. To wait for a table you stand in line. It’s first come first serve but they are very effluent and move people through quickly. We ordered the baked omelette and hashbrowns and the ample German oven pancake. Worth the wait!

Great Menu

By Jolsies |

This is a great breakfast spot, and very close to the Marriott Marquis. They offer gluten free pancakes and waffles. My husband has celiac and he did have some issues afterwards, but to be fair they mention on their menu that cross contamination is a risk. I wouldn’t recommend trying their gluten free if you’re sensitive celiac. I had their breakfast burrito and it was the best I’ve ever had. I can’t recommend it enough. Our waiter was attentive and we were impressed with the service.

Delicious

By Grammie |

The team that served us was quick and kind. The food was outstanding. We had the Baked Apple Pancake and was delicious and the Eggs Benedict with avocado was a refreshing change.

Long lines

By 87debrab |

The food was delicious and tasted fresh and organic. We did wait about 25 minutes in line but they really try and get you in as quick as they can without making you feel rushed when you're sitting down eating

Eggs Benedict and waffles

By Sarah H |

My husband aNd I visited SD and Richard walker’s was a must. We got there just before the line and we were seated outside. Very friendly waitress staff. They were very knowledgeable of the menu! I loved the bottomless coffee. My husband enjoyed his first ever eggs Benedict. Filling enough for a brunch for us. Would visit here again!

Come hungry

By Mat F |

This breakfast spot offers something for everyone. The portions are huge and quality is excellent. I would suggest getting there early. We arrived at 8am. By the time we were served, a line had formed and all the tables were full. The service was great and fast.

Enjoyable Breakfast When It Was Needed

By davidmlowe |

I ate twice here during my stay in San Diego, once at the very start and finally at the end of my holiday. I suppose this goes some way to showing that the experience was a good one. My first visit was as soon as the doors opened at 6:30am, due to the time differential from the UK I had literally been walking the streets of the Gas Lamp District waiting for the restaurant to open its doors. Because I couldn't sleep I had reviewed this the previous evening / early hours as I was starving and in need of those much loved all American pancakes that unfortunately are unavailable back in Blighty. They do sell mixes in some of the supermarkets in the UK but they are a far cry from the good ones in the USA. As you can imagine I was one of the first to arrive and was greeted warmly by the server and seated in a table towards the corner and immediately offered hot coffee and iced water (another thing we dont get back home) After a quick peruse of the menu I opted for two eggs (over easy), sausage patties together with a stack of pancakes and a side of hash browns. Considering by this time there were only a couple of other tables occupied Id say my wait was a little longer than expected to the degree where I had to stop drinking my coffee as the server (as is customary) continued to top up my cup every time the level of my coffee got a few inches from the rim. The food was worth the wait, that pancakes accompanied by whipped butter and a huge jug of syrup, just as Id fantasized about the night before. Eggs were done to perfection, sausages were the patty type and tasty but the star of the show (apart from the pancakes of course) were the hash browns, crispy and delicious unlike some of the frozen rubbish that is served these days. On my second visit I opted for the same, only this time I swapped out the sausage for beautiful crispy bacon, mmmmmm. I have a couple of minor gripes with my second visit, firstly the coffee was no where near as hot as the first time, so not as enjoyable and they didn't serve half n half creamer only full cream or milk, which surprised me as I always thought half n half was an American staple? Anyway it didn't spoil my breakfast and I left feeling full and satisfied. Breakfast is not what Id consider cheap here think with a decent tip is was around $25 however its been a while since I've eaten breakfast on my own in the USA so this may be par for the course these days? I would definitely recommend this restaurant, which I do believe they line up to get into its that popular, fortunately due to both my visits around 6:30am I didn't have any problem getting a seat.

Good food even better service

By Naomi H |

Went here for breakfast during my trip because my friend saw the huge apple pancake, which she enjoyed. I had regular bacon and eggs with toast and asked for a side of hash browns. I seen in previous reviews people complaining about the toast not toasted properly so I looked at peoples plates while walking to my table and sure enough it looked like bread. I just told the server I wanted my toast dark toasted it came out normal but it wasn’t buttered so make sure to ask for dark toast and buttered. Overall the food was good and the service was fantastic.

Awesome coffee

By Travelswell4fun |

Breakfast here was really, really good. Service was great and the entire experience was favorable. The only thing is they only have one bathroom and you may have to wait. They have the best coffee anywhere.

Highly recommend!

By susan t |

Found this by accident and what a treat! Apparently we just missed the lineups that are ongoing, so plan accordingly. Food was EXCELLENT as was the service. We sat outside which was an added bonus.

Go for the pancakes !

By CVTravelers |

My wife and I have had breakfast here on prior trips and are happy to report it is still as good as ever !! Our server was very friendly and kept our coffee cups full (very much appreciated). My wife had the baked cinnamon pancake (it is HUGE) and I had the buckwheat pancakes. The food was as expected – fresh, hot and tasty. We look forward to returning here on a future trip and give this restaurant our recommendation for a tasty breakfast.

German pancake!!!

By rodjan5 |

My Niece recommended this place and the breakfast was amazing. Had the German pancake and it was huge. Coffee never got cold and great service.

We’ll be back

By Kristen |

Food and service outstanding. We had the French spinach crepes that come with potato pancakes and the western omelette with a side of three buttermilk pancakes. Was so good, we didn’t get pictures until halfway through. The crepes were slightly thicker than a traditional crepe but was utterly outstanding. The hollandaise was perfect and the balance of savory and sweet was just right. The buttermilk pancakes come with whipped butter and syrup, but they were quick to grab us some whipped cream when asked. The whipped cream is obviously homemade and the best whipped cream I’ve ever tasted. The pancakes were outstanding. The potato pancakes, on the other hand, didn’t stand out but were better with the sour cream and applesauce. They were not crispy like a latke, which is what I was expecting. Our server, Rubi, was the best! She was bubbly and friendly and very attentive. Absolutely incredible experience and the service was top notch. We will be back.

Great breakfast place

We ate breakfast here on our first day in San Diego. The portions were generous, the food was very tasty (the bacon was great!), and the service was very good. We were able to eat outside which was nice. They don't have gluten free bread, but they do offer gluten free pancakes which is a nice change. Enjoy a great meal here!

Really Bad.

Based on Trip Advisor reviews, we were excited to visit today. Staff was so good. Unfortunately we can’t say the same about the food. Had a ham & cheese omelette that was so overcooked, it was unbelievable (see photo). Buttermilk pancakes were also quite overcooked & frankly could have been used as frisbees. Felt sorry for myself until I glanced around at nearby tables & noticed that other food looked overcooked too. I felt especially bad for the gentleman at the next table who waited an extraordinarily long time for what appeared to be a fossilized Dutch Baby. Unsure if today’s experience is a fluke - maybe an inexperienced cook? In any case, I wouldn’t return.

It was so good, we ate here twice!

The San Diego French toast and waffle selection was fantastic! I ate here first with my spouse. It was so good, I went back with a colleague two days later. Food made to order and not a long wait.

Best breakfast in years!

My husband and I had breakfast at this restaurant on June 1st and the food was fresh, flavorful and simply delicious. We shared a pecan baked pancake and it was amazing. I had a vegetarian baked omelet and he had the baked western omelet. Both were very good. The food was served hot and the coffee was delicious also. This place would be worth while addition to your schedule!
