excellent food and atmosphere

By 619TravelGeek |

I ate here on a recent business trip since it was the closest eatery to my hotel (Residence Inn Downtown Loop). The decor was wonderful and food was top notch, a great spot for clients in the financial district!

Yes-have drinks and dinner here!

By MrsPsPicks |

The drinks were terrific-try The Landmark! The appetizer with stuffed dates was out of this world! Our entrees also exceeded expectations.

Very good wings and prime rib

By xnavyron |

The miso wings here are very delicious with lots of meet and flavor. The rotisserie prime rib and potato melted in your mouth and could be cut with the fork. Very friendly staff and great drinks

Horrible

By Samantha B |

The food is good but their manager is completely unprofessional and they are scammers. They often want you to pay for your dinner twice. They are rude and shiesty.

Cool spot

By 150hotelnightsayear |

The ambience is cool. Food was very good. Better than pub food, but priced similarly. You could make a meal from just the apps. Service needed a little work. It was slow. The road block was the bar.

Excellent!

By cbacree |

Our waiter Jonathan was excellent and provided us with fantastic service at a great restaurant. Classy, serene atmosphere for college graduation celebration. Chicken appetizer was a bit overdone, but the cornbread was outstanding. The chicken and prime rib entrees were delicious.

Great Spot in the Loop

By Organizer |

Just because it's hidden on Madison Street does't mean it can't keep up with the other places on the Mag Mile. The food here is excellent and it will not break the bank. I have eaten here twice for lunch and it is always an enjoyable meal. The staff is efficient but not pushy. I would like to try breakfast here sometime, because lunch was awesome.

AWFUL

By Dalyork5 |

Do NOT eat here! Food is bland. Service is slow. Kitchen is poorly managed. Management is clueless. Now, all that said, we were a large party. But we made reservations so they knew the size of the party before we arrived. We were informed that one wait staff member quit and one called in sick, so only one server and one bartender. No accommodations were made to bring staff from downstairs. Three different orders had to be changed three different times because they were out of the item. Food was room temperature and all courses were brought out at once. When the courses were brought out, no one knew what plate bel news to what guest. 30 minute wait for a drink unless you went to the bat and got it yourself. Overall pitiful experience

Laid back, great cocktails and excellent food

By DPKH |

Who would have thought such a place in a Residence Inn! Nice decor, these folk know to serve a bitterly cold martini and the burger was excellent. Very polished staff, fire places, lounge chairs and lots of nooks to just chill. See you Roanoke when I check back into the Residence Inn.

Great place for grabbing a drink - a Nosh!

By Mary F |

Could not have asked for a more charming place to enjoy a glass of wine with friends on a rainy day in Chicago. Loved the warm atmosphere, accompanied by efficient service! Felt like I was in an expensive, private club! Do not pass up their infused Bourbon! OMG unbelievable! All food is made fresh-too include their incredible Clam Chowder!

Great food and service.

By brucec619 |

My wife and I visited this restaurant in the downtown Marriott Residence Inn on Madison Street. A good spot for us located between Grant Park and the Metra commuter station. We got there for happy hour and dinner. My wife had the rotisserie chicken and roasted Brussels sprouts and loved it. I had the prime rib special and it was quite good also. Best of all our server, Jennifer, was most patient with us as it was our first visit. We had numerous questions and she went above and beyond to help. This place is definitely on our list of return destinations.

Great Pre-Theater Option

By Carrie B |

Came in for pre-theater lunch/brunch. I love the decor/ambiance in the restaurant. I thought it was inviting and a great place to hang out. Nice bar in the middle of the restaurant. I opted for the egg white omelette with potatoes. Potatoes were so good we had another order on the side. Loved the omelette. Very good service. No gluten free bread...if they had had gluten free bread, this would be 5 stars!!

Really good food and service

By patriciay455 |

We were looking for a place to eat late on a Sunday night and there were not a lot if choices near where we were. We found this by accident and it was really good. There is not a large food menu but it has good choices. There is a good beer and wine menu. Very pleasant setting. Relaxing yet lively. Good choices for whatever your mood

Awesome place to dine before or after seeing Broadway show!

By David C |

We dined here in Sunday evening before Aladdin musical. Arrived at 5 PM. Seated quickly. Server described specials and soup of the day. Our party of four ordered the following entrees: 16 oz prime rib / mashed potatoes,; rotisserie chicken with roasted potatoes and Brussels sprouts; rotisserie chicken salad; and Scottish salmon with roasted beets, carrots and potatoes. Son had prime rib, it was massive, ordered it medium, but arrived medium rare. He said it was awesome. I had the salmon, and it was cooked perfectly. Roasted veggies were very tasty, this is a good meal if you want to avoid overeating before show. The rotisserie chicken is 1/2 bird, wife said it was moist , but wished she had requested the mashed potatoes instead. The rotisserie chicken salad is huge, our person took 2/3 home with her. We had two soft drinks and 2 glasses of wine. Tab came to $144 before tip. Waiter was slow to return with check and carry out boxes. Overall very nice restaurant and high quality food .

Dinner before a play

By pug180 |

6 of us went to dinner here before Hamilton and food and service were great. They had a $33 special that included appetizer, entree and dessert. I had the clam chowder which was excellent, full of very tender clams with a little kick to it. Scallops were very good and dessert of the night was ice cream on chocolate cake. Walter was our server and he made sure we finished and got the bill to keep us on time for the opening. Drinks were good also.

Great place, big choice of food and drinks - all look good!

By Achim R |

Went for a salad and a cocktail. Both were great. Try the Black Manhattan. Very friendly staff, drinks and food were served quickly.

Limited menu, but good

By BosleyJay |

We ate in both the upstairs hotel room and down in the Madison Street restaurant. Both had the same menu and between the 2 of us, had several different items, all very good.

Night out!

By pinaN |

Planned a night out with my husband. This restaurant is in a nice area however their menu selection is very small and their cocktails are a rip off. The cocktail is served half way not a complete glass. Food was average and their discount parking voucher did not work at the parking garage.

Quick drink and bite

By Tracee S |

We stopped for a quick drink and we shared a wood fired pizza. The pizza was delicious and the drinks were moderately priced.

Nice Place for Dinner

By Walter O |

Had a business dinner at the Roanoke and it was a nice casual place with an upscale feel. Food is decent, wait staff did an excellent job. Always ask about an item so your expectations match the reality. We wanted New England Clam Chowder but when we inquired we were told it was not a cream but more watery...sounds terrible so we ordered other things. Thankful to the wait staff for the information.

A little uneven

By Ron R |

This is a new place and it shows. The food is very good, but the service is slow. It also made no sense to shut off breakfast at 9:30, as we watched several people turned away.

A Lunch Gem

By Zman1962 |

I've been here probably a half dozen times for lunch now. It had been really good every time. Burger of the day has been a hit twice. Salad with rotisserie chicken has also been excellent. When I do go out for lunch this is in top of my list.

Great Dinner

By meve5314 |

I visited the Roanoke Restaurant for dinner, I wish there was a little more variety on the menu, but found the atmosphere and food to be outstanding! Had salad with Steak and enjoyed every bite! service was very good as well. Have some unique cocktails that I wasn't able to try on this visit but would go back if I'm in Chicago again in the future.

Classy but not Overpriced!

By Janet0325 |

We flew into Chicago on Thanksgiving day and came across this amazing restaurant! We ate in the high-end bar area and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The atmosphere is comfortable and classy, the staff are well-trained and personable, And the location is fantastic! We will definitely go back!

Great food and Service

By GatorAndria |

I have been here a few times and Brad was a great server and the bartender was great too. People at the bar are very friendly and locals. So if you wanted to grab something to eat by yourself at the bar it would be very comfortable. Their cornbread is fantastic, I would highly recommend it. They have Stella which is my favorite beer.

WARNING! WATCH YOUR BELONGINGS!

By Kathy K |

My wallet was stolen out of my zipped up purse. It took 3 days (after much pestering from me) for someone to get back to me. I was told that the security cameras have been broken for quite some time. This made me think that the restaurant is a target. There aren't any warnings or disclaimers anywhere in the restaurant so this is my warning to you from one patron to another so that it doesn't happen to you! you won't get much help from the restaurant staff or managers so you're on your own!

Good food-erratic service

By Slumdog2015 |

Six of us for dinner before theater. Sat for about 10 minutes before water glasses were filled. About another ten minutes before drink orders were taken. While waiting for the drinks, dinner orders were taken. Four of us ordered dinners (soup or salad, choice of entrée and chocolate mousse dessert) and two ordered pasta entrees. Soup and salad were served and we were still waiting for our drinks. The soup was clam chowder-too rich and creamy for my taste. I prefer a New England Clam Chowder. Three dinner entrees were sea scallops. Yummy. One dinner entrée was prime rib. Yummy. The dessert was so so. Several of us had coffee. The first round was cool. We asked the waiter for hot coffee. After a while we had a warm up. Not so. Still cool. After the third round of cool coffee we gave up. One reason for choosing this restaurant was the $4.00 parking special. However, after the theater, when we went to get our car, the $4.00 validation was denied and the parking cost was $16.00. Not a very good first time experience with this restaurant.

Good Location, Mediocre Food

By jaimieb822 |

My daughter and I were staying at the Residence Inn after a concert at the Lyric Opera House, and we didn't want to have to travel far for dinner so we made reservations here. We headed down a little earlier than our reservation, but they were able to seat us right away. The tables here are irritatingly close together - to the point our waitress even had a difficult time getting things to our table when they seated a couple right next to us. Our server, Amanda, was average. She asked if we were ready to order almost as soon as we sat down, but we needed a couple more minutes (let me look at the menu). The food was out fairly quickly. I ordered the Prime Rib Dip Sandwich and my daughter ordered the Caesar Salad. My daughter doesn't eat much meat, so she just ordered it plain. It was a giant bowl of lettuce with minimal Caesar dressing, and 4 croutons. At least add more croutons! It was comical really. My sandwich was bad. As soon as they sat it down in front of me, I knew it would be. There was a giant chunk of fat hanging out of the bread. I know, Prime Rib can be fatty, but they should have trimmed the fat off the meat for a sandwich. I took the top bun off, and there was seriously more fat than meat. I actually took off every piece of meat to cut off the fat, and then rearrange my sandwich. It really grossed me out to have to do that. The sandwich and the dip had very little flavor. The fries were good though, nice and salty. Our server came to our table immediately after our food was delivered, and didn't come back until we were finished eating our entrees. We ordered desserts. My daughter got the Grandma's Cookie Sundae, and I ordered the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding. My daughter enjoyed her sundae, it was big and the cookie on top was fresh and tasty. My dessert, not so great. I would think there would be bananas in a Bananas Foster Bread Pudding, but I never saw one, nor did it taste anything like bananas. The cinnamon ice cream was a little overpowering. It would have been better with just vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce. We might be back, just because our first visit last December was good, but we won't make a special trip to the city to eat here.

Great Food and Great Service

By GFK01 |

Had a late dinner there on a Thursday. The service was great, the staff was friendly. The cornbread was great as was everything else.

Clubby dining spot

By Culture Vulture 60657 |

A very attractively decorated spot with a large bar, leather booths, dark wood floors and panelling and, in back, a fireplace. The menu at lunchtime includes salads, pizzas, big sandwiches and some soup as well as entrees. We chose the prime rib dip and the pastrami sandwiches. the prime rib came with 3 little post for ketchup, horseradish sauce and a giardinera, plus a little jus in a small pitcher. It came on thick toasted and buttered rolls. It was tasty but extremely fatty. I ate it with a knife and fork. My companion's pastrami on rye was extremely greasy to the point that it made the bread disintegrate so was very hard to eat and messy. The chips that came with were highly salted but not greasy. The food is only average but pricey; you are paying for the ambiance.

Lovely food and cocktails

By LilyMallick |

I had the sausage and broccoli casarecce which was very flavourful alongside two gin and tonics that were nice and strong. An excellent meal at a restaurant that stays open later than the others in the local area (we were turned away from a previous restaurant for it being too late).

Excellent food. Great service.

By Kellyclan50 |

From start to finish we were impressed with this restaurant. Portions are generous and prices affordable. My partner loved the scallops. Crab appetizer was delicious. Vegetarian options available. Good wine options. The service was personable and responsive. Decor is modern. The restaurant was definitely quiet for a Saturday evening and is still trying to build up clientele. The only downside I can report is that the bathroom is inconveniently located on the second floor. We strongly recommend this restaurant!

Nice evening meal in house

By NWPackerBacker |

I had some room service after a long plane ride. I ordered a NY Strip that was sauteed with mushrooms, and it was cooked wonderfully with a side of creamy mashed potatoes. It was a great way to unwind and relax after a long day of traveling.

Rotisserie Chicken Done Right

By VoixDuChocolat |

I cannot comment on the atmosphere or service here, as I only ordered takeout. But I was very pleasantly surprised by the Rotisserie Chicken entree. It was pricey at $26, but it was a half chicken, expertly seasoned and roasted. The meat was nicely seasoned and juicy. The mashed potatoes were good, except I prefer mine without skins. I didn't think the rotisserie veggies were the equal of the chicken, but the shallot jus was a lovely touch.

Great food

By Cherie S |

Reasonably priced. Excellent food. Our waitress was attentive and informative. Saturday night and we were able to make a last minute reservation.

Nice menu. Good food. Limited weekend options.

By BookReader31 |

Great salads. Dinners here are large .service is a bit slow. Don't sit near the door in winter. Recommend the French Toast for brunch on the weekends. Roanoke salad was also wonderful.

Delicious Dinner/Nice Atmosphere

By Mymeggie |

We had a delicious dinner their last Friday night. Friendly staff...I just loved the specialty craft cocktails. They infuse many hard liquors with fruits.

Excellent Lunch Spot in Chicago Loop

By Tramble |

High recommendations for Roanoke, a casual eatery, conveniently located in downtown Chicago and the first floor of a Marriott Hotel. The three of us stopped in for a late lunch. Ambiance: the first floor of the restaurant was busy and noisy; the host suggested the dining room on the second floor. We were grateful to the suggestion. With only one other table of diners, we enjoyed a relaxing and quiet lunch. The menu offers a variety of choices - I ordered the tangy Bar-B-Que chicken served on a brioche bun with delicious made-in-house thin potato chips; my husband ordered the turkey Ruben and per his request, the chef substituted the beef with turkey; the side of fries was served hot. The Ruben’s toasted marble rye was served warm and crunchy without being wet and soft from the sauerkraut that typically renders the Ruben bread soggy! Excellent service. We were grateful that after serving our order, our waiter only inquired ONE TIME if everything was OK! High recommendations for Roanoke for lunch.

Good food, poor staff communication

By Kelli |

We had planned for a large group of us to eat here one Saturday night. My friend who organized the event had confirmed several times with the events manager that we would have dinner space for 22. We arrived to 3 couches and 4 cocktail tables and a staff that believed we were only to have drinks and appetizers. It took awhile to get that sorted and several of us had theatre tickets so we were worried about starting so late. We ordered only appetizers to try to push things along (great food, by the way) but service was still incredibly slow. Someone came to ask about when our show was and we asked for our checks immediately, but then that person never bothered to communicate with our server who was perplexed that we needed to leave. We almost missed our show, however it was thankfully delayed due to last minute cast changes. I’m sure the regular dinner service is fine for small groups but they aren’t adequately prepared to handle large groups.

The fava bean hummus was amazing

By KatWomanNYC |

Everyone in my group loved their meal. We ordered several appetizers and each was well prepared. I had the sea bass which was prepared perfectly. The fava bean hummus was an unexpected treat. We also tried a recommended wine since the white wine we ordered wasn't available. A second group from our meeting also came to Roanoke that night l and enjoyed their meals.

Good Food. Nice Ambiance. Reasonable Prices.

By Bonnie T |

I like this restaurant. It’s an attractive place to hang out or meet friends for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner. I particularly like the salmon entree. It’s prepared perfectly, and it’s delicious. I’ve not had a bad meal here. It can get crowded- especially at lunchtime- so make a reservation.

Great City Vibe at this Upscale Hotel Restaurant

By John D |

First, this place is much bigger than it looks from the street. There are multiple private rooms upstairs and a completely separate bar and couches and nooks for lounging. It is also a National Historic Landmark. You will notice this if you take the back marble staircase to the upstairs bar. We started with just drinks which are innovative and fun. The Roanoke Martini - Gin, Dry Vermouth, Regan’s Orange Bitters, Blue Cheese Olives. Lots of small plates, salads and pizzas along with a good selection a chicken, steaks, prime rib and pasta. The Meat and Cheese Board was very good (although we did have to ask for extra bread.) A lively place for after work cocktails and appetizers. They also have brunch on the weekends and we are planning to go on Sunday.

Good variety

By Trish A |

I had the chicken and there was really too much to eat. A little dry too. Some in our party had the short ribs and they raved about them. Great cocktails.

Average

By AmyYas |

Nice ambiance. Good service. Food was just average. Had prime rib and roasted chicken. Appetizer of cheddar buscuit which was fine but nothing special at all. It was fine but there were better places to eat so I would not return for that reason.

Brunch Date

By uryufriend |

We came for brunch and got french toast. It was okay. The french toast wasn’t completely done and the eggs were very greasy. I did get a latte that was really good. The service was great. I am going to assume we both just ordered the wrong thing. I would like to give them another try and maybe come for dinner.

Great Food! Beautiful reasturant! Great Location

By Nicole M |

Great location. Great vibe. Love the decor. Food was fantastic. We had breakfast there. Only issue we had was with the service. Server didn't take our order correctlyafter confirming with him twice. He was also quite rude. Other than the service everything else was fantastic.

Everything was delicious

By Jeana P |

Great wine list. Friendly service. The griddled burger with fries was very tasty and the Buccatini was excellent. We also tried the cheese curds which were quite nice. Would definitely eat here again.

Good Dinner Option in The Loop

By Kenneth Y |

Went there with a colleague, and had a good dinner and drinks. Didn't have cucumber to go with my Hendricks and tonic, but the food was good. I had a burger, and the bread budding was awesome. Good atmosphere, and service was attentive.

Good Place for Dinner

By Walter O |

Good place for dinner. The restaurant is a couple blocks from my hotel so an easy walk. Good selection of entrees to satisfy everyone. No problem accommodating a group of 8.

Very nice streetside dinner

By Tad D |

Really good experience. Isaiah was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations. Seared scallops were fantastic. Crab cake is highly recommended as well. Mac & cheese side was also very much worth mentioning.

Great Pre TheaterRestaurat

By HarryLeon |

We were on a tight schedule with tickets for a downtown Chicago theater and made last minute dinner reservations. Service was prompt. Food was excellent and prices were reasonable. I recommend the pre theater menu (especially the Prime Rib). Close to many of the downtown live theaters so can park once and walk to both dinner and theater

Great Rotisserie Chicken

By volofugavi |

I stayed at the Residence Inn which uses the Roanoke for their room service and dinner options. There is a back stairwell that connects the Residence Inn to the restaurant but it is kind of hard to find that passageway from the hotel side. Somebody has to tell you how to get there because there is almost no signage for it. I had the rotisserie chicken twice and it was really good. I ate in the actual restaurant on the last evening of my stay in Chicago. I was by myself so I sat at the “chef’s bar” on the end near the window. First off, I was cold. It is November and the cold air drafting off that window was freezing me out. Second, the staff seated me but the waiters overlooked me. So I sat there for a while until I had to get up, walk over and flag down a waiter. The restaurant was busy and it took a while to get my meal. The restaurant was very loud that night, the group behind me was nuts and it was hard to hear myself think. This combined with the noise the chef’s were making as they threw their pots and pans around in the chef area made it worse. They really made no attempt to keep the noise down at all. It was an assault on the senses to be sure. Definitely not the kind of place to go for a quiet dinner after a busy and hectic day at work. ... but the food was good.

Tasty and Unique Dishes. Pleasant Atmosphere.

By Bonnie T |

I forgot this restaurant was in a hotel until I had to go into the hotel for the bathroom. I was attracted to this restaurant because the menu offers interesting choices like a grilled cauliflower salad with cheese and marcona almonds. Delicious! The atmosphere is quite attractive and pleasant, and the servers are eager to please. I will return to try a number of Roanoke's dishes.

Great New Loop Hidden Gem

By Raphael L |

While waiting to take a friend to lunch,I sat at the bar and had a good Jimador Tequila pour. Place is mobbed at noon and noise level is high unless seated in a booth. The unknown is Club Roanoke which is upstairs and far quieter and conducive to a good conversation. The salmon burgers are fantastic and extremely well priced . Discover this unknown restaurant attached to a MARRIOTT Residence Inn and you too will be surprised and delighted.

AWESOME

By robyn c |

Reasonably priced ambiance in spades. The staff was amazing. They made my husband's birthday that much more special

Looks good but uninspiring

By Terry V |

Nice looking menu, rotisserie specialities, but the chicken we had was severely over salted. And the beets in the salad were tasteless.

Dinner out with the family

By Matt D |

Chose the Roanoke due to it's location and good reviews. Booked a reservation for 8 a couple of weeks ahead of our arrival for a Saturday night dinner. Upon arrival we were told to go upstairs for our seating. Upstairs is basically a connection to a neighboring hotel. The area is what is typically used for the hotel's breakfast area. It was a decent area but did not have the atmosphere we were expecting from the photos of the restaurant. OK, no problem. Moving on...... Waited 15 minutes for first contact and water from the waitstaff. Ordered cocktails which arrived after our soup course. Not good. Also they had only ONE draft beer available from the menu which offered at least 10. Also not good. Had to flag down our waiter more than once to get another drink order in. Had to ask the busser to get us water also because of the lack of a waiter. Food showed up 45 minutes after ordering....and not all at the same time. Good news was that everything we ordered was cooked properly and was delicious. Bad news is that the waiter never came to check on our food after the runners brought it out. Had to flag her down (again) to get the tab. In general I think they overbooked and were not capable of handling the amount of people they allowed in the restaurant and overflow area. Our table was not the only one suffering from these issues. Smaller parties around us waited even longer. Very disappointing when you come in from out of town to have a night out and have to experience poor service like this.

Good food and nice staff

By Fceexp1 |

I ate here 3 times during a 6 day business trip. It was right around the corner from my hotel, the Residence Inn by Marriott. In fact, they provide the lunch and dinner services. One night when I ate there with guests, we had some problems with our orders. Waiter and manager both got involved to try to sort everything out. To me, that's the sign of a top place. Food was delicious....especially the clam chowder...not skimping on the clams! Rich and delicious..

Delivered to hotel, very good dinner

By CAnativewanderlust |

I was staying at the Residence Inn on LaSalle and 2 of 5 nights I called and ordered food which they delivered to the bar where I picked up. The first night I had the mac & cheese which was a bit salty for my liking but gave it another try and had the fried chicken which was very good. Food was ordered and ready as promised with all I needed and it was hot and fresh. I was very glad to have found them as there was not a lot open late in this area. The food was very good and reasonably priced for a big city and hotel delivery.

Nice Menu, Convenient for Residence Inn

By TennisFan8 |

My sister and I were in Chicago to see Hamilton and stayed at the Residence Inn on South Lasalle St. The Roanoke has a restaurant on the street and also serves in the dining room of the Residence Inn. After a day of touring, we decided to "stay in" and eat. I had a burger and fries and my sister had the chicken over potatoes and brussels sprouts. Both were served hot and were prepared well. We enjoyed the meal and I would recommend it.

Christmas time

By Brenda R |

Very nice and cozy restaurant to have a great food with Excellent service. Is my first time here and I really enjoy.

Best Tuna Tacos I’ve ever eaten.

By NancyGail |

Best tuna tacos I’ve ever eaten. Service was slow. Not sure if that was the kitchens fault. The manager adjusted our bill because of the long wait for our food. I was very appreciative that the Manager was so customer service friendly. If you are going to theater, ballet or opera in downtown Chicago I would highly recommend Great option for Saturday lunch.

It was a great experience

By Annaline |

Food was good. Space was very nicely designed. Very comfortable. Not a noisy laud place but more intimate setting. We set in a comfortable booth for two. Service was very nice. Again: food was delicious. We shared poke for a starter. Very good. The only thing is that the restroom was on the other floor almost a mile away from the restaurant... I’m kidding but it felt kind of unusually far. But when I was looking for it I found out that it is shared with the Marriott which is located on the other side of the building .

Delicious and Convenient

By tweety874 |

We were staying at the Residence Inn above the restaurant. Had dinner here before the theatre. Accessible from hotel without going outside which was great since it was raining. I had the pasta dish which came with tomatoes, mushrooms, asparagus and spinach. It was delicious!! Couldn’t stop eating. My husband had the salmon which he loved. We split a side order of green beans which we’re delicious and more than enough for us to share. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Great experience. Will remember this the next time we come into the city.

Great food and atmosphere without being crazy busy

By Jagsas |

Thoroughly enjoyed the food which was beautifully presented. Our party of 7 ordered a variety of different meals and not one complaint. Every meal was cooked perfectly and as described. Favorites were the scallops and the campanelle pasta and the salads. The food came out reasonably quick. I think the service was a bit slow, but not worth a complaint when you have great atmosphere, great company, and great food.

Pre-Theater Prix Fixe

By iTraveltheworld195 |

We ate here early on a Saturday before going to a show at the Lyric. It was a great meal and as an added bonus they had a Pre Theater prix fixe meal, three courses for $33, soup or salad, main course and dessert. Hubby had the clam chowder and I had the daily soup, chicken tortilla that day. Both were good but I loved my tortilla soup. It was rich and flavor filled. Really well seasoned! Then for our mains we had one of the seared scallops with risotto and one of the prime rib, then split them - our own surf and turf! The scallops and risotto were okay. The scallops could have been seared just a bit more and the risotto, though had good flavor the texture was still a bit too firm. I really like risotto when you not only have mouth watering flavor but also that creaminess that is uniquely risotto. The prime rib was the winner of the two. Done to perfection and accompanied by a spicy horseradish sauce and garlicky mashed potatoes. Yum, yum a real treat for this meat and potatoes girl! The dessert for the prix fixe is chef's daily feature. That night it was a chocolate mousse. It was good and completely satisfying! We ordered cocktails and they were quite good. The only little glitch was although our waiter was friendly he wasn't the most knowledgeable. He had difficulty answering questions about some of the specialty cocktails. He was also pretty slow in bring and collecting the check at the end, just when we were in a hurry to make the show.

Sit at the counter and watch your lunch being made

By Taylor B |

I can't remember the last time, where or when, that I sat at a counter and watched my meal being prepared in an open kitchen. Was it at a White Castle in the 1950s? Well, here we are at the Roanoke Restaurant at 135 West Madison in Chicago, in a 1913 building with a rotisserie and brick oven in a display kitchen. Where do you want to sit? At the counter? Near the fireplace? Or at the bar? Wherever, you are sure to enjoy brunch, lunch, dinner or drinks. Open from 11 to 10 Monday through Thursday, 11 to 11 on Friday, 9:30 to 11 on Saturday and 9:30 to 8 on Sunday, it is a downtown gathering place for shoppers and businessmen and late-night theater goers. My wife and I stopped for lunch. We started with New England clam chowder with bacon, a ribeye all-beef chili bowl with sour cream and cheddar and house-made cheddar biscuits with honey butter. For a main course, my wife had grilled mahi mahi with kiwi salsa, banana coconut sauce and mac and cheese. I indulged in a grilled hamburger with two four-ounce beef patties, tomato, iceberg lettuce, American cheese, dijon and pickles with French fries. Dessert was a treat, too. We shared a large slice of key lime pie and a large portion of caramel apple cobbler with vanilla gelato and caramel sauce.

Mediocre With an Attitude

By shuarjefe |

First of all the street door was looked. We could only get in by going to the second floor of the hotel where it's located and walk downstairs. It was Saturday at 6.00 PM. There was an hour and a half wait.. The waiter did not offer drinks. We had to ask. It took 3 requests to get lemon for my wife's water. At 7:30 on a Saturday, fully half the items on the menu, some of the wines, and some of the cocktails were not available. Food, when it arrived was tasty, but my pasta was not hot. It had been sitting before it was served. There are many other places in the neighborhood. Go elsewhere.

Excellent Brunch, but make a reservation

By apdemas |

Came here for brunch and it was fantastic. One note: make sure to make a reservation, it fills up quickly. We did not make a reservation, but were able to snag some free seats at the bar. The food was excellent, I got the breakfast sandwich and a peach bellini. Service was great too, very friendly and helpful. Good atmosphere too.

Good Place for Dinner

The restaurant has a varied selection with something for everyone. I like the fact it is close to my hotel so I can walk. Food is delicious, service is decent, atmosphere is good.

Popular dinner spot!

By Salgal8 |

We decided to have our anniversary dinner here because every time we passed it, there were a lot of people eating indoors and outdoors. We went on a Friday night at 7 PM, our dinners were very good ( a filet and a salmon dinner) but disappointed that there were several things they were out of ……like all the draft beers! We found that very strange being that it was a Friday night at 7 PM, they blamed it on the trucking problems. They had no decaf coffee for our dessert and the dessert did not follow the description in the menu. I thought it sounded really good because of the homemade hot fudge sauce which we never saw, it came out with caramel topping. I feel that they should’ve at least told us about the switch. Also, I felt it was very noisy in there, but it did seemed quieter as the time went on. Our waiter, Tommy, was new to the restaurant but we found him to be attentive to us.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

By Larry W |

I had Lunch with my Team at Roanoke Restaurant yesterday. Our Server, Josh, was the Epitome of Professionalism. My Hamburger was thick, rich, and tasty! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Cheers!

Fresh Eating!

By Ashley D |

After a long day of touring the city, we called down to the Roanoke restaurant because it was connected to the hotel that we were staying in. We ordered the sea scallops and rotisserie chicken. Im not sure if they promote themselves as a farm-to-table restaurant but that is the assumption that I gathered from the freshness of the vegetables and protein! The food was amazing! I would recommend that you give it a try!

Scrumptious Prime Rib!

By Cleo R |

A big plus is that Roanoke starts serving dinner in mid-afternoon which was much appreciated by a number of diners including me. The Prime Rib (my favorite main dish) was superbly prepared with a large serving portion. My husband’s Scallops dish was also delicious. The chocolate lava cake with chocolate gelato and chocolate sauce is a chocoholic’s delight. The key lime pie was great, too. Service was outstanding. The waiter told us about his favorite thing to do in Chicago—we did it that evening and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great casual place. Awesome food.

By Timothy F |

I've been here a few times for lunch and a few times for drinks. Always a great time. Food and service is excellent. Menu is some nice variations on classic food. Great cocktail selection.

Very good address

By gourmand34070 |

Very nice brewery Fast service Hearty and tasty dishes We had dinner at this restaurant twice during our stay in Chicago. Very fresh fish, good cooking and refined seasoning

Terrible food with acceptable service

By Lee E |

Came here with a large (7) group of friends for a dinner pre-Hamilton. We've not been here before an thought we'd try someplace new. I had been traveling for a few days and was excited to see something slightly healthy on the menu: I got the wheat berry kale salad with salmon. There were several very disappointing things about my salad. Firstly, wheat berry was a joke; I think I fished out about 20 tiny wheat berries for the whole salad. The salmon was cooked well (hard to mess that up) and was served on top of a large, under seasoned pile of kale. Now, I love raw kale and eat kale salad many knights a week. Whoever made this salad, does not know how to prepare it! There were just as many stems as there were leaves, the leaves (curly kale) were left in large pieces and I could not detect any dressing on it. Felt like a cow suffering through chewing my cud while trying to carry on dinner conversations. Ridiculous. For the listed ingredients and the price of that salad, I should have seen a few more bits of goat cheese or the elusive wheat berries. At $22, I wish they would have let me make my own damn salad. I also asked for a bit of bread and I received a greasy few bits of white bread. Thanks. The only reason why I did not give a "terrible" rating is because our server was good.

Great dinner attach to Residence Inn Marriott

By JD_pgh |

We stayed at the residence inn for our sons hockey games. Convenient to get to restaurant without going outside in the freezing cold. The food was fantastic and drinks were the best- they have infused/slow drip bourbon and tequila. The tuna poke was a great app. Salads were very good.

I'd rather go to Jimmy John's on a Friday night

By Davide B |

The kind of place that makes me want to stay home! Showed up 20 minutes early than reserved, place is almost empty but we got seated at the smallest table in the darkest corner. They must obviously think the empty booths are inviting to walk-ins... It turns out that it was the darkest corner because they don't bother to change burnt lightbulbs in that establishment Ordered the charcuterie board as an app. Both the (flavorless) cheese and the prosciutto were dry, probably sitting for hours. As a nice touch the prosciutto was also all clumped and stuck together. What a waste of perfectly good $100! For 2 apps and 2 drinks...

Delightful pre- theatre dinner

By Roberta B |

Pre-theatre dinner…our server was great, the gourmet burgers were delicious, and the dessert was grand! The main dining area was crowded, and we were seated upstairs in the banquet rooms. We and two other parties were brought up together…the other two both made a fuss about not being seated downstairs. The host was gracious about finding them alternate seating. We were thrilled with the extra room, super comfy chairs and festive decorations. Definitely going back!

Coming back, for sure!

By Rich K |

We met with friends here in Chicago at 6:30 pm. Bar is exceptional! Food is exceptional! Bar service is not as fast as expected, at the bar and at the table. But drinks are excellent. Food is exceptional. I ordered the Porchetta entree. Excellent!! Ladies ordered meat salads and no complaints at all! Extremely courteous and friendly waiters and staff. I'm coming back for sure!

Delicious appetizers and meal!

By steveaelliott |

We loved our dinner at Roanoke. And the Old Fashioned was the best I have ever had! We can't wait for our next trip to Chicago.

Excellent pre-theater dinner

By PSS4444 |

We were directed toward Roanoke by our hotel concierge and he was not off-base! We loved our dinner before seeing Hamilton. Unfortunately, they were not offering a pre-theater menu, either because of the season or because it had been ceased. Nonetheless, the food and service were excellent. Definitely recommend!

Lovely meal

By MTMHampshire |

We had a lovely meal here tonight and the service was excellent and friendly. We both had the same meal so can only comment on that limited selection - chicken Parmesan which was lovely and a generous portion.

Roanoke may be best evening option in The Loop

By MJandDC |

I have now been to Roanoke Restaurant twice, both times for a late night dinner. Their menu seems a little small and the service (at least at the bar) is marginal at best, but the food is pretty good. Each time they were already sold out of the entrée I was interested in, so the kitchen must be turning out really good plates. My pick on both visits has been the fried chicken appetizer. On this most recent visit I also ordered the burrata and tomato appetizer. The portions are big and the food is really flavorful. I much prefer the Roanoke Restaurant to its sibling bar (with an even more limited menu) in the Residence Inn Chicago Loop!

Metallica weekend

By Peppypatty30 |

Excellent food here! Relaxed atmosphere. Great wait service! We had caprese pizza and these pork shoulder carnitas for appetizers! Both mouth watering! So flavorful and awesome! Meals were rotisserie chicken salad and my boyfriend had the rotisserie chicken with Brussels sprouts and potatoes. Definitely will be back!! Desserts looked so good but we were full!

Great for Lunch - Consider Reservations!

By Mike P |

Dropped in for lunch during the week while visiting the area. We were greeted in short order, but didn't make reservations and ended up sitting at the bar (which was perfectly fine with us). The bartender took our drink order quickly and gave us menus - she ordered the chili, which was excellent, and I had the Turkey Club, also excellent. The bar has four TVs carrying sports. The restaurant has a warm decor and doesn't have loud background music. The bartender was attentive and engaging throughout. The restaurant was very busy - reservations would be needed for a table. Would definitely return - with reservations next time!

2nd great lunch

By AmyPD_13 |

I went to Roanoke for the 2nd time for lunch. It is a great comfortable restaurant with fabulous food and service. This time I had the mixed green salad, which was fresh and lightly dressed, and the caprese pizza. In my opinion, it is big enough for two, especially after the salad. I have never had a better caprese pizza. I would recommend you either come early or make a reservation, it is very popular for work day lunch.

Drinks

By Jeff R |

We stayed at the attached hotel and wanted a evening cocktail. TA reviews mentioned the quality of the drinks. We were not disappointed. Those we had off the menu were outstanding. The Black Manhattan was particularly good. And the bar area was busy. Excellent service.

Great food, shame about the service

By Chris C |

Had dinner here in late May. I sat outside with two other parties, and was ignored for a good 15 minutes. Service never really got more attentive but the food was quite good. My buratta salad worth beets was good if a little overdressed. The scallops main, however, was great - plenty of well-cooked scallops, (5-6?), risotto, brussels, mushrooms and some micro greens on top. It ws a generous portion, and delicious. I'd like to give it more stars, but the service really did interfere with an otherwise excellent meal.

Everything Tasty But Biscuits

By Bonnie T |

I like the looks of this restaurant. The food is generally good, and the service is great. Had biscuits there this morning without gravy, and they were hard as rocks and not very tasty. Perhaps they count on adding gravy to soften them up. If you're going to have the biscuits, have the gravy. Or order something else.

Inside Marriott Hotel, Comfortable Vibe and Friendly Staff

By mgargiles |

This spot is located adjacent to the check-in area of the hotel. It's got a "lounge" feel with big couches, fireplaces, and large windows across the majority of the floor. It's a nice place to relax, have a drink, and was not overly crowded. They offer a full bar, plus special signature house cocktails and drinks. The menu has full-course meal dishes, but we opted for the tapas style menu. The Roanoke salad was typical, with added grilled chicken. The roasted cauliflower was a nice side, a little spicy, and tasty.

Excellent

By Rebecca B |

y husband and I made reservations before a theater show. The crab cake was amazing. I had a Caesar salad...it was just ok, and lobster ravioli in vodka cream sauce. It was delicious. My husband had the chicken Parm. If you like a pesto flavor, you will enjoy it. The serving sizes are huge. Excellent service, had is out in time for our show.

Clam Chowder Soup warms the tummy!! With a Cheese bisquit for dipping

By Christine H |

Just check it out - great vibe.It is also where you will have complimentary breakfast - which is very complete!

Great location and menu for quick after work dinner.

By Constance R |

Conveniently located next to the Residence Inn my colleagues and I gave it a try. Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the menu and flavorful food. Chicken paillard was wonderful and perfect portion size. Only downfall is they have donuts mentioned all over the menu but none we available when we tried to order them...I bet they would have been delicious.

Sunday Brunch

By Bruce_and_Valerie |

Very inviting from the street, we stopped in for their Sunday brunch. The menu was good/ diverse. The food was very good, but attention to service was lacking . They were only half full- can’t imagine if they were busy.

Superb Chicken on Tzatziki

By LOMike |

I came her on a business trip and had a perfect light dinner will lots of flavor. A pounded chicken breast on a Tzatziki sauce topped with a flavorful salad of mixed greens, cucumber, tomato and onions was perfect late summer dinner. Paired with a nice Spanish Albarino, all was right with the world. The service was friendly and efficient.

Upstairs private room was very good!

By Douglas P |

I went here with a small group that reserved an upstairs room, "The Madison". It worked out very well. At first, it was quite warm but the "engineers" were easily able to adjust it on demand. We had a set meal with entree choices. The chicken was a LARGE serving of food. The beef was very good. Service was outstanding! It was very good for a group of about 20-30.

If you were busier then you'd struggle, Not really impressed with the Service.

By Paul K |

The gaps between water and orange juice (far too much ice) & you people call that orange juice, I guess what I have in the UK is very different to what you and my Hotel serve masquerading as pure Orange juice, it was Awlful. You know I wish I picked the Chicken at 26 Dollars, messy yes but thats what napkins are for Regarding the Drinks Menu, may help people if you told us what strength the lager /Beers are and maybe a line about the Beer. The Restaurant was not busy there is an upstairs but they had it covered, some were looking for stuff to do, another was cleaning all the time, I have had very good service in the past in Canada and America and the service was always good, maybe sometimes a little attentive but I had the complete opposite service, Must try harder.

A simple menu but very good food and efficient service

By 628olivierj |

The prices are in line with the downtown location, but the food was very good and we enjoyed the large dining room ad friendly service.

Major fail

By Holly N |

This was a major fail. Went as a party of 7. This was a rehearsal dinner at 7:15. The waiter skipped over the happy couple when taking the orders. That was the first mistake. The second was when he brought out the food, which he brought out everyone’s food except the happy now pissed couples food. This was the theme of the entire dinner. He finally got their meals, at which time everyone was done with their food, and he felt it a great idea to bring out dessert for whomever ordered dessert. The entire thing was a fail. SO the waiter just was a hot mess. And this was constant… with the drinks.. the food. The whole thing. I will say the food was very good, but I will not recommend this place. And if the restaurant wants to look it up, the reservation would not be hard to find. Table of 7, at 7:15. Friday, October 1st. You might want to do some re—training (we didn’t screw the guy on the tip since we have all worked in the server industry). The restaurant was not over crowded and we were not a difficult group. Actually we were just the opposite. So not quite sure what the issue was except perhaps an inexperienced server who couldn’t get his act together.

I would not recommend this establishment for breakfast.

By Time_for_Travel14 |

This review is for breakfast only. Ordered the Prime Rib with eggs. The meat was cubed and stir fried with the other ingredients, poblano peppers and onion. The pepper and onions were fresh, but the meat was a bit chewy and did not taste like prime rib. Perhaps because it was over done. The scrambled eggs (I'm not saying they were) tasted like "egg beaters" out of a container. It was terrible. The server was polite and attentive, but I would not recommend this establishment for breakfast.

Expected Better Service...

By Dee L |

My husband and I stopped in at Roanoke for a glass of wine and a snack late on a Sunday morning. The hostess was nice, but our waiter seemed to be looking down at us from the minute we met. I asked about a drink special they had posted on the board outside, and he told me it wasn't available but didn't bother to mention the drink special they DID have that day. We ordered our drinks and that was the last we saw of our waiter. 35 minutes after we ordered we were still waiting for one prosecco and one cocktail. Kind of difficult to accept that level of service when the entire place was dead. Our waiter only had one other table open in his section. After all that waiting we were kind of over the experience. We started to leave real slow, hoping the staff would try to rescue the situation, but I guess nobody cared we were leaving without ever getting our order. We left and went to a much better and friendlier Italian restaurant near the Goodman Theatre, which was definitely the right call.

Great new place

By Brendan S |

I came to Roanoke for a business lunch, so I didn't try the full cocktail-appetizer-entree-dessert menu, but what I did try was great, and I would definitely go back. I had the fried chicken with a buttermilk biscuit. The fried chicken was crispy, the biscuit was fluffy; can't ask for much more than that.

Quality In-House Restaurant

By johnhA3674EL |

Treatment of gluten-sensitive guest was very good, several parts of restaurant are quiet in spite of majority being more lively (but still pleasant).

Very good food and service. Docked one star for menu clarity

By 968jeffreyh |

Food was great, atmosphere was great, and service was great. We really enjoyed our time there. Only disappointment (and reason for knocking off a star) is that the menu was not clear on the half-price wine bottle night deal. It was when the bill came that we were advised that the prices listed for the wine bottles in the bar menu were the prices already cut in half. That was not clear to us, and should be fixed with a new printing of the bar menu.

Tables too close together

By Marianne P |

Tables too close together which makes for loud conversation. Service was good when your waiter stopped by. Food was just okay. Not sure I would recommend this location. The online menu showed steaks but I didn’t see it on the restaurant menu.

Dinner before theatre

By Lisa H |

My daughter and I went to eat dinner before seeing White Christmas. We loved it (dinner and the play). The wheat berry salad was so good I’m trying to recreate it for Thanksgiving. We also had the clam chowder. Very yummy! Will definitely go back

Horrible Service

By Karen G |

If you are in town- and you look at the reviews and think this is a good restaurant to try...Don't do it unless you have about 3 hours. It took us over 2 hours to get our food...It was okay but not worth the wait.....Hope they re-evaluate and improve

Slow, plan accordingly.

By Richard M |

I was there for a group function in a private room upstairs. Very plain room. No ambiance. After we were asked to sit down for dinner it took 50 minutes for the food to start serving. The food was good but not great. My experience may not translate to the downstairs restaurant, but I will probably not go back.

Thankfully open

By Nicole L |

I stopped in with some friends today. We stayed at La Quinta down the road and we were having horrible luck finding anything open on a Sunday. Just when we were about to head back to the hotel we stumbled upon Roanoke, thankfully as we were starving. We were immediately seated and the hostess asked if she could get us a drink order. I asked what kind of soda they had and she said she didnt know. What do you mean you don’t know what kind of soda you have?? She said she had to ask, and came back and said the server would come over because she didn’t know. Terrible. Between the 3 of us we got 2 sodas and 1 cocktail. Sodas came right away and we watched the cocktail sit at the bar for about 5 minutes before our server brought it to us. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich which was Awesome. The chicken caesar salad which was good and the smoked salmon bagel. The bagel was good but the bagel tasted somewhat stale. My friend had ordered a donut and asked for it to come with the meal and it never did. Server never came over to ask us how lunch was or if we needed refills. When she finally did, she said oh you never got your donut? Like c’mon, you are the server. You should know whether we got it or not. And I asked for a refill which took about 5 Minutes to get. Had to ask the bus person for gelato for dessert since we never saw our server. She was either overwhelmed(it was not that busy at all), inexperienced, or just didn’t care. It’s too bad because the place is pretty cool and the food was good.

great experience

By jindgar |

Went out with colleagues for a team outing. Nice atmosphere, comfortable seating, good food, great service

A fabulous night with friends

By Monica1124 |

Four friends and I planned a dinner get together and Roanoke was close to where we all worked. So one of our friends made a reservation and when she arrived first, she was told that she couldn't be seated until the whole party arrived. This is not unusual for restaurants but the funny thing was the hostess showed her the table and then said she couldn't seat her. Two of us arrived next and the three of us were seated even though we were still waiting on two people of our party so we had no other issues with seating. We ordered cocktails and I had a specialty cocktail which was really yummy. We ordered a BURRATA salad for an appetizer. It was delicious. I ordered the fried chicken and blue cheese mashed potatoes, my friends ordered the roasted cauliflower salad and the roasted chicken, Everything looked so good, My fried chicken came with a honey type sauce and biscuit. The chicken was really good and juicy. The biscuit was kind of dry so I dipped it in the honey sauce. The blue cheese mashed potatoes were good. The blue cheese was not overpowering or too salty. We hung out for awhile and the server was great. He didn't rush us and made sure we were taken care of. The prices are in range with downtown Chicago restaurants. It has a higher price point but comparable for the area. Roanoke is fun, lively, good for groups and couples. It's worth a try.

Delectable Breakfast

By Rosearita |

This restaurant was a fun find not far from the theater district. We chose to sit outside and take advantage of the people watching. Our party of three shared a lovely fruit plate. We ordered a breakfast sandwich with a side of American style potatoes, homemade cinnamon rolls, and a side of bacon. All were fantastic, but the cinnamon rolls would be a MUST for anyone who visits during brunch. The Orange blood mimosas were the perfect addition to our fare. There was an upstairs area available for large parties or for meetings. The architecture and ambiance were worth the trip indoors. We will be back!

Very Convenient Hotel Restaurant

By Pat G |

Visited on a Thursday evening during NCAA basketball playoffs opening round. The restaurant was busy but we didn’t have a wait. The burrata appetizer and hung steak Caesar salad together make a filling meal. My wife’s southern fried chicken appetizer and three sisters polenta also made for a great meal.

Available in Marriot Residence Inn

By Tim K |

you are able to order in the Residence inn in the bar area and they serve you up there. Food is good but a little on the higher side

Good food on a cold night - you might have to phone a couple of times

By Duncan P |

Had dinner here a couple of nights while on a business trip - once in restaurant and once as take out for the hotel that is above the establishment. They do warm filling comfort foods. Wine list was interesting and had good range.

Wrong item, but not a problem

By Traveling D |

This was my second visit to this location. The fried chicken appetizer is excellent. I ordered the salmon, though I was served the rotisserie chicken. I was actually pleased with the mix up. The meat was well seasoned and the vegetables were grilled and excellent. Since I am on a Keto diet I avoided the potatoes The service was slightly more than marginal as the server seemed new.

Stunning food

By ronfromglasgow |

Lunch here with friends. Good drinks menu and interesting beers. Not a large menu but not small either. The food was prepared excellently and the service was efficient and friendly.

New Restaurant Needs Work

By LocaLinda123 |

Started on a high with excellent clam chowder. However, rotisserie porchetta was a lot white, not crispy fat and very little meat. I took my left overs home, cooked it like one cooks pork belly and it was great. Problem is one does not go out to dinner to have great left overs. Limited choices on menu was a problem, too.

Was slightly disappointed!

By jackbaby |

We came here for breakfast. They didn't seem to have some of the items that were on the hotel menu, so we were disappointed in that. My husband enjoyed his eggs benedict and my omelett was just so-so. It is a very attractive restaurant and I would definitely give it another try when in the area. The staff was friendly also.

Plentiful lunch

By restrapo |

Order carefully given side dish of sautéed spinach is sizable. I had a delightful burger and hot french fries for lunch. The side of spinach made me feel that at least a part of my lunch meal was healthy. Service was quick, attentive and welcoming.

Subpar for Breakfast

By Rochelle J |

We ate here for breakfast since we were staying at the hotel next door. The staff wasn’t the friendliest. The breakfast potatoes were pretty good but my scrambled eggs weren’t good (how do you mess those up)? The waffle may have been decent if it was topped with something but I had it plain and it was so cold I’d swear it had been refrigerated. If you’re staying at the hotel connected to this restaurant and don’t have time to go elsewhere this place is fine but expect it to be basic hotel breakfast.

Prime Rib was very good

By Beth W |

We went for our anniversary dinner. Everything was delicious and we didn't have to wait long to be seated or for the food. We would definitely go there again.

Stopped in for a quick bite at the bar

By Ashley C |

We stopped in for a cold beer and a quick bite during the heat wave. We split the flatbread/ pizza of the day which was prosciutto, arugula, and olive. It was great. Will return.

Excellent Food and Service at Roanoke Restaurant

By Judy C |

This restaurant was recommended to me by family members who appreciate good food. After dining there I wouldn't argue with them. The food was upscale but not pretentious, the service amazingly attentive without intrusion, and the prices not unreasonable. All six of us (each with a different entree) very much enjoyed our meal.

Delicious hearthy cuisine in downtown Chicago

By stfontmtl |

During a 4-day stay in Chicago, we made a stop for dinner at this new address downtown. Simply delicious! Full flavored clam chower soup is to die for, pizza of the moment was ham and peach. Flavors very well balanced. Savory chicken from the rotisserie. Confy decor, courteous staff. Highly recommended.

Fabulous for lunch!

By Carmela R |

The clam chowder bisque is a MUST! The rotisserie pork taco appetizer is a perfect lunch entree. GO!

It's All Good

By PlymouthGino |

We had a group of 6 for a Friday evening dinner. Orders Included: Pizza of the Moment (gotta ask the waiter about this sort of thing) Burger of the Moment Clam Chowder Slider Appetizer I've got to say, all of it was very good, with interesting/unique flavor combinations within each dish. Very creative adaptations of what you might consider to be "traditional" food. The waiter was very helpful, explaining the specials, and each dish that we were interested in ordering. The setting was very nice, but a bit noisy--I think the after-work drink crowd was still lingering. It was all very good. Everyone was pleased with the dishes they had ordered. I would go, again.

Nice for a Drink

By Marc_and_Kim_Z |

Went to meet another girl couple. Sat outside and had drinks. Service was really good for being outside. Prices a bit high and didn’t have the on the menu draft beer I was looking for.

Food ok, but service?

By erbr63 |

I had breakfast here on a quiet and wet Sunday morning. Food and cappuccino were good but not quite hot enough for my liking. The service was a little slow and unorganized. E. G. Asked for the Wifi password and - it is ok not to remember this all the time but would surely be known somewhere?

Good but nothing more

By Nikow69 |

A wonderful restaurant with a beautiful line kitchen. I was not so surprised by the card. I thibk the card is not as good as the atmosphere of the restaurant. But the food is good and quickly served ' and the staff is welcoming and really professional. We took the saltimboca it was nice

Noisy bar but cold beer= good times!

By rod g |

Stopped by for a beer at the bar, it was busy and noisy but service was fine. Has a few cold beers and watch the ball game. Service was fine. Good looked good but was too early for us to eat. Friendly local guys at bar too

Cozy dinner with generous portions

Had a lovely dinner with a friend here. Warm, inviting decor and lovely service. The crab cake starter was delicious and the scallop entree was huge! I could hardly finish it.

Great New Place

By Shanel S |

This restaurant is gorg. I love the atmosphere here. The food was equally impressive! The decor and feel of this place is so worth it! I felt comfortable and had a wonderful experience. I would definitely return over and over again.

Yum!

By Illini005 |

Chicken chorizo pizza was the pizza of the moment and it was soooo perfect! Especially the crust. Husband had the prime rib sandwich which was also excellent. Really interest flavors and a nice atmosphere. Pretty empty for a Sunday night so we got seated right away. We would come back.

Dinner Before a Show

By Dave L |

While attached to a hotel, the restaurant achieves its own identity. Small menu, moderately priced (for in the Loop), the food was excellent and innovative. Staff is very attentive with good suggestions. The Salmon was perfect, and the marinating of carrots in beet juice gave them a unique, pleasantly sweet flavor. Banana Fosters Bread Pudding, shared with two, was excellent desert. Only drawback is that the bar and restaurant tables are very close, and the business people at the bar get a bit loud.

Comfortable Bar area

By Happy Traveler |

Food**** Service**** Ambiance***** We sat at the bar and had some chicken wings and the clam chowder. Service was fast and the food came out extremely hot. The bar chairs were very comfortable with nice lighting and had sports playing on several TV’s.

Great after-show food

By Gergana |

After seeing a show at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, we were looking for a nice sit-down restaurant within walking distance that was open on a Sunday evening. This fit the bill and, boy, did we luck out. We started with the oven-warmed cheese, then I had the beef short ribs plus the Lafayette cocktail, and we rounded it out with the donut affogato. Everything was really delicious so highly recommend, just based on the food. Our server looked and sounded a little harried so I wouldn't say the service was top notch but everything was good with our order so can't complain. Not sure about the parking situation although I did not notice a valet out front. Definitely lots of parking garages nearby - we used The Poetry Garage which was a 4min walk.

Worth dining at

By Schwenn |

An amazingly beautiful place to dine. We arrived in Chicago at 10:30, made our way to the Willis Tower Skydeck, then set off in search of food. This one did not show up on Yelp as being open, but we walked by on the way to the one that did say it was open. Well Yelp Wes wrong the other one was not open so we came back to this one. I am so glad we did I would describe the setting as casual fine dinning style. Wonderful decor yet tvs to watch as well Every member of the staff was polite, friendly, and courteous. Very welcoming to say the least. Our server was knowledgeable and if there was something he didn't know he immediately found out the answer. The food was very appealing when presented and of the four meals we ordered the only one I would not recommend is the taquitos. So done in and enjoy

One of Chicago's finest

By simon g |

Situated in The Loop central Chicago the atmosphere was right for an evening out with your loved one. The food was excellent as was the service. Gluten free options and the chefs will accommodate where they can. Price is about average for central circa $90 pp two courses with wine cocktails etc.

Very convenient

By archietek52 |

Just recently had a business meeting in Chicago and how lucky can one person be. The meeting was held in the office building across the street from my hotel and the Roanoke was around the corner from the hotel. We had a large group of 12 and the service was excellent and the decor was very nice. Everyone had something different off the menu. I had the steak.........well prepared.....just the way I like it. One of my co-workers had the salmon. I will need to try it the next time. Had a great time.

Not as great as I expected

By lilrox724 |

I came here with work people for dinner. We chose this restaurant because we pass it often to our office and the ambiance looked nice. Food is quite pricey and tasted average at best. Though my coworker raved about the chicken. I had the salmon which was nothing special. Service those is very slow. It took a quile for our waitress to get to our table. Then it took like almost 45 minutes to get our drinks for 8 people and 2 apps. Our entrees came a short time after. They need to do a better job at spacing out the food. Though I will have to say, for a table of 8, I was impressed that our waitress took all our orders without writing it down-- missing only one thing.

New restaurant seems like a winner

By Zman1962 |

Came here for lunch with a colleague. Had the special "patty melt" sandwich. It was quite tasty. My colleague also had the claim chowder which he enjoyed. Place was packed at 1245 so that's a good sign. Will definitely go back.

A Hidden Gem with Great Food, Just Needs Better Service

By KatInCLE93 |

While walking around downtown Chicago, my husband and I were looking for a spot to grab a quick bite without a wait. I jumped on OpenTable and found Roanoke nearby with immediate reservations available—perfect! I thought it was the weekend (oops, it was actually Friday), so I had brunch on the brain, but we rolled with the lunch menu and ended up happy with our choices. We started with the biscuits—and wow, they were so good. Warm, buttery, and comforting. I also ordered the lamb hummus as an appetizer, which was flavorful, well-seasoned, and generously portioned. My husband loved it so much he kept digging into mine. He had a sandwich with fries, and we both agreed: the fries were outstanding. Super crispy and well-seasoned—some of the best we've had in a while. The not-so-great part? The service. The restaurant was nearly empty—only one other table—but we were barely checked on. At one point, my husband had to get up and ask for a refill because our server hadn’t come by for quite a while, even with our plates stacked and waiting. Not a huge deal, but definitely noticeable, especially given how quiet the restaurant was. The vibe of the place is great though—warm, upscale without being stuffy, and a comfortable atmosphere that made us want to linger. Roanoke might not be on everyone’s radar due to its slightly off-the-beaten-path location in a city full of hot spots, but we’re glad we stumbled upon it. Would we go back? Yes—especially to finally try that brunch menu we had our hearts set on!

Good Food, Nice Atmosphere, Reasonable Prices

By Bonnie T |

This restaurant, in the Marriott Hotel in downtown Chicago, is a great spot for meeting friends and dining with colleagues. The menu is pretty diverse, and the food is quite good. Prices are reasonable, and the servers are eager to please. Reservations required, especially at lunchtime. This has become quite a popular spot, and it's worth it.

Excellent Brunch

Got to Roanoke at 10am when it opened. We had the unique Porchetta Eggs Benedict and Breakfast Sandwich. Both were excellent, but the home fries were to die for. Cut fingerling potatoes which melt in your mouth. This place deserves a higher ranking ... at least for brunch!

Brunch

My husband and I visited for a quick brunch before going to a play. There was no wait time! We were seated and water was brought to our table. Our server was polite and helpful. My husband order the Ribeye Hash. I cant remember the name of my dish. Both were so delicious! We were very pleased with our food and agreed that it was somewhere we would return.

One of Chicago's best breakfasts

By McKeldon |

My wife and I just spent a long weekend in Chicago and visited Roanoke for breakfast the morning of our flight home. I regretted not discovering it earlier because it was the best breakfast we had in Chicago. The value was exceptional and the service was prompt and efficient. I had the rib eye skillet and it was a robust dish, exellently prepared with a Latin flair and loaded with chunks of prime rib. My wife had the avocado toast and loved it. We split a cinnamon bun as well and it was warm, fresh, gooey and topped with delicious butter cream icing. We went to a couple of better-known breakfast spots over the weekend, but neither was as good as Roanaoke. If you like a well-made, hearty breakfast, you can't go wrong here.

Nice food but very noisy in main restaurant

By Bob-a-JobSussex |

This restaurant attached to the Residence Inn was incredibly and noisy during our stay in early May. Fortunately there is also a lounge area on the floor above so we chose to eat there as we are older and it was so much quieter there. The menu was very limited but the food was quite good. We could not understand why the dinner menu was so short but the lunch menu had many items on it which we would have preferred. The wait staff were very varied, the first person did not understand either us (we spoke English) or the menu and had to call another server over. Our meal was OK but we would only eat here again if staying at the hotel.

Great food....except the Salads

Great new lunch/dinner option in the Loop! Appetizers were great, and all my friends entrees looked delicious. Unfortunately I ordered the Rotisserie Chicken Salad. It was $16 and hardly had any chicken, avocado, or any other toppings. The lettuce was supposed to be Kale, but it was all romaine with maybe 3 springs of kale. Totally disappointing! Sandwiches and Pizzas looked amazing - I know what to get next time!

The good was very good We had meat and Sea Bass Very nicely done The side of corn is really good Monday night and it was very full A bit short on staff but it didn’t impact the service Worth coming if you are staying near by

Excellent mid priced restaurant

My dinner, rotisserie chicken, was very flavorful. Service was good, it was a very slow Monday, with only a few patrons and the staff packing up at 7. Watch out for the sparkling water, they charge liquor prices for it.

A Generous and Savory Dinner

By Kim G |

Roanoke is a nice addition to the "neighborhood". Reasonably priced and very generous meals. The roast chicken was wonderfully seasoned with perfectly roasted vegetables. My friend had the Grilled Salmon Caesar Salad and said it was delicious. The portion was also generous. The service had the right amount of attention. I would say the dessert menu could use some sprucing up. It's a pretty uninspired collection of 4 items. All in all I was pleasantly surprised.

Get the lasagna

We walked in off the street without a reservation, after a long flight, hungry and tired on a Wednesday late afternoon. The menu is great, my partner had the salmon with fava beans. I had the four cheese lasagna which was so delicious - it's packed with flavour and not heavy.

Best Scallops I’ve Had in a Long Time

By Bonnie T |

We went to the Roanoke for dinner before the theatre and were pleasantly surprised that they had a three course pre-theatre menu. My spouse got that and enjoyed it. But I couldn’t pass up the scallops which were, by far, the tastiest scallops I’ve had in a long time. They were prepared perfectly (juicy and a bit brown and sweet on both sides) and absolutely delicious! Served with mashed potatoes and asparagus, and paired with a glass of wine, I could go back and repeat my dinner right now. Yum!

Great spot!

Had a mid day reservation for 4 with my family. Crowded, reservation highly recommend. Service was excellent. We ordered hummus for appetizer. Tuna poke bowl, tuna tacos and power salad with salmon were all excellent! Poke bowl…highly recommend. A little fancier and I’m sure it excellent dinner spot. One of our best meals in Chicago

Outstanding food and service

By Abouha |

The restaurant is contemporary, server Alejandro was knowledgeable, gave excellent recommendations and knew when to ask or pop by to see how the meal was going. The dates app was very nice , the chicken parm and prime rib were perfectly done and the red sauce is one of the best I have had. The pistachio cheesecake is out of this world, light fluffy and delicious. The drinks menu was not overwhelming and they were on point. Overall excellent experience and definite recommendation!!!!

We came here after a meeting recommend by a friend on Saturday. I had CHICKEN SALTIMBOCCA SANDWICH. It was very good. The chicken breast was very thick and taste really good. There were not too many people on Saturday. The service was good. I really like the foods.

Great lunch meal

We ate here with a group of 8 on a business trip. Was very crowded and noisy but the service was excellent and the food delicious.Portions are large and the mix of egg/brunch food and traditional lunch fare made it a good option.
