Superb Crème Brûlée

By JDA60 |

Definitely need reservations, this is a very good restaurant with great service and a popular dining spot. They have no vegetarian options on the menu but are willing to accommodate you. Their Crème Brûlée is one of the best I’ve ever had.

Pretty active place on Wednesday night

By Wtftraveler |

We had a wonderful experience sitting at the bar watching a basketball game. We enjoyed a couple glasses of wine and the happy hour menu which I which ended at 7 PM the tortilla soup was fantastic the service was attentive the wind choices were excellent cannot wait to come back to this place

Great service and food

By Jedda1 |

Enjoyed an early meal after long day and really glad we picked the Roaring Fork. The chicken dish with cornbread stuffing was exceptional and my wife had the red fish and she was thrilled. Service was top notch, so all together a great experience. Nice decor and pretty nice wine list to add as well

The best Mango Margaritas!!

By Retired662013 |

We went back for a second round at Roaring Fork for dinner. The restaurant is very popular, and on the weekends the wait is over 2 hours. So, the first time we went, we ate at a high table in the bar area. We had drinks and burgers and were quite satisfied with the service and quality of the food. The waitress recommended the Mango Margaritas, and I quickly was hooked. I am not a big drinker, but I found this drink to be delicious because of the fresh mangos. On the second night, we ate in the dining room and were again pleased with the food choices and quality of service. And, again I had a Mango Margarita!!

Good Food, Bad Service, Won’t be Back

By WhiterockHorn |

After making a reservation for 9 people, we were seated at an 8 person table and were told they couldn’t offer any other seating. I was forced to crowd the table next to us - at least they were good natured about it. It took almost 30 minutes to get our first (and what turned out to be our last) round of drinks, and that was only after asking three times. The food was good, but the server was slow and bordered on being rude. The food wasn’t good enough to make me ever want to go back. Too many other (and better) options.

Excellent Food

By DavidLowe0228 |

Took my son and his wife and young son here for his birthday. The food was excellent as always and the service was impeccable. Better than usual. I had the Big Ass Burger and it was spot on. Couldn't be better. My wife had the fish tacos, which I have had before, and she loved them. My son and wife also got the burger and had nothing but great comments. Meghan provided some of the best service we have ever received here. Will we be back again. Absolutely!!!

Beautiful atmosphere - Amazing food !

By JK |

We came earlier for dinner, so it wasn’t busy yet. The restaurant was clean, beautiful, food and wine was outstanding !! We connected and thourghly enjoyed our waiter and had great talks of wine and drinks - he actually brought us free tastings & apps because we connected

Roofied at this restaurant

By Freedom771265 |

The food was good, but my friend and I were roofied at the restaurant and haven’t received much support from the establishment. Very upsetting.

Food as cold as the hostess

By Kelcie R |

After our lackluster interaction with the hostess (that was too busy training the new hostess to host) we opted to get food to go and ordered online from our hotel lobby connected to the restaurant. When we got our food we chose to eat in the lobby, having only stepped a few feet from the restaurant and it was already cold. Which made us wonder how old was it to begin with? The homeless that hang out in front were very happy to take the majority of it.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place...

By tencatdaddy |

a friend wanted to go here and since he was driving I acquiesced. It took a while for them to "find" our reservation but once we were seated and some confusion w/ our servers was settled things went better (but not great as service was a bit disjointed). A decent Aviation was presented and later a local brew w/ dinner worked. Main courses were appealing but not as appealing as appetizers so I went that direction. My dinner mate did nothing but gush about his trout but he was seriously jealous of my choices. I opted for the mussels & chorizo and the "big ass" meatballs appetizers along w/ sides of Elgin sausage stuffing and Brussels sprouts. There was much more food than I could eat (but I managed to eat most of it) and shared and still there was more food. To top it off all of it was excellent. The meatballs were cooked perfectly and wonderfully seasoned. Mussels were absolutely delightful. The sausage stuffing was better than I could have thought and sprouts were amazingly good. Any issues w/ the service and the front desk were more than made up for by the food. If they could get their act together completely this place would be outstanding. I did not realize they had multiple "outposts" and plan to visit some of the others on my journeys.

Exemplary service and amazing food.

I use Trip Advisor to find good places to eat and things to do. During our visit to Austin this was no exception. Like everyone else, I leave good ratings when they deserve it and bad ratings when they need to be called out. Roaring Fork definitely deserves my time to post a positive review. Roaring Fork was 5/5! Roaring Fork offers a good atmosphere. But what they really excel at is employing good people that provide exemplary customer service. Cliff was our waiter and he provided suggestions on the menu. Cliff was polite and did everything right. If I ask for suggestions, I am going to take them and I am glad I did. Cliff was spot on and the food matched his personal critique. Even the beer he recommended was good. I commented to my family that we need to come back again to this location (we are from Arizona).

Best fish ever

By Jen W |

The rainbow trout with brown butter and almonds and green beans was the best fish meal I've ever eating. Lovely atmosphere, fantastic service and a nice wine menu too.

Great entree’s and service

By stacey h |

Made reservations for an early Friday night dinner. Restaurant was not busy. Service was good, had a very nice table. Ordered sodas (they don’t carry Coke or Pepsi). Their soda is another brand. I couldn’t finish half of one, it’s that bad. No idea what it was. Our salads arrived first. Apparently they have a new salad person. My “wedge” was a wedge, with two pieces of bacon crossed on top with a few crumbs of blue cheese. They didn’t have blue cheese dressing, which was odd. Luckily the entree’s were fantastic! Sides were good too! Pass on dessert or don’t get pecan pie. Too much chocolate or too many pecans. Couldn’t tell, just too much going on.

A roar about the Fork

By charlesealyj |

This place is great if you're attending a downtown Austin festival. They have a bar area, as well as table service. And the food is excellent. They have a really big burger that lives up to its name. But the other offerings are better, especially the southwestern cuisine.

Much more than steak

By David B |

The Roaring Fork is located on the ground floor of the Intercontinental Stephen F. Austin Hotel. It is not affiliated with the hotel so you can't charge the meal to your room. The restaurant has a good selection of steaks, but also many other choices. If you like pork, order the double (16 ounce) pork chop, very tender and nicely seasoned. My wife chose the salmon. Both were generously portioned. If you don't like the accompanying side dishes (the pork chop came with cheese grits), the waiter will change them for you at no additional charge. There are several wines offered by the glass as well as by the bottle. For privacy, ask for a booth away from the kitchen entrance.

Good food - Greater service !

By skibumal |

While staying at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown Austin, we decided to have dinner at this in house restaurant. Was taken to a nice table and the friendly young waitress went over the menu with us. We also discussed the wine selection and was pleasantly surprised that she did not try to upsell us on the red wine. We had a Russian River Pinot Noir - outstanding - to accompany the filet mignon - cooked to perfection ! Thank you.

Not worth it.

By EandEmom |

We had a reservation for 6:30. Arrived at 6:25 and waited about 10-15 minutes. A couple that walked in after got seated right away in a much nicer, more secluded setting. The drink waiter really couldn’t be bothered and was not friendly at all. It took quite awhile to receive our two old fashions that were mediocre at best. Our Caesar salad came out pretty quick and was quite oily, not creamy Caesar. Finally received our food at 7:30. The salmon was good. The short ribs were ok. Probably won’t be returning.

Great service

I enjoyed soup, salad and a cocktail. Cliff was helpful with making suggestions, super attentive and a great server.

Nice Bar with TVs

By Eric H |

We spend part of an afternoon watching UT football and other games on the TVs at the Bar. Bartenders were attentive and friendly, The guacamole was excellent.

Yummy and great value

Gorgeous, laid back bar/ restaurant. Food was super and during happy hour, great value. Bar staff were attentive and friendly without imposing. Highly recommend the steak tacos and pork chilli kettle! Perfect location

What a pleasant surprise

By john g |

It being too cold to wander around, we settled at the bar and ordered some appetizers. I kept my eyes on the food around and the portions were impressive and there was steam coming off the plates. Our queso and chips were spicy, the mussels minute but tasty, served with a chorizo sauce and around 4 dozen of them. I also had the kettle of green chile pork, that was also quite spicy and served hot in a tiny cast iron cauldron with flour tortillas on the side. They had a good choice of wines by the glass, but for Austin their craft beer choice is a little thin on the ground, but I found a can of Stash IPA. Oldies on the sound system, warm, almost intimate atmosphere around the bar and fireplace, contributed to a pleasant late afternoon vibe.

Great drinks, food, location, service … and Happy Hour menu!

By Brenda S |

After driving in from Houston and San Antonio for a day trip to the Paramount for an 8pm show, we decided to do happy hour and dinner at Roaring Fork. Happy Hour is from 4-6 daily and based on our experience last year, I was worried it would be difficult getting a table in the bar area. However, when we arrived at 5:10 we had no problems getting tables and were seated together by the window and were told we could pull our 2 high tables together to fit our group of 4 - which was perfect. The 4 of us split delicious Steak Nachos (with guac), Queso Con Puerco, Steak Tacos, and Beef Sliders - all from the happy hour menu. The first 3 were excellent - with our favorites being the first 2. The Beef Sliders were good but not enough to get them again. We asked about dessert and our server said they don’t have a dessert menu - but listed off all the usual suspects. None sounded like must haves - but we decided to split a Creme Brûlée and a Raspberry Cheesecake. Glad we did because they were both yummy and a nice way to finish the meal. Regarding drinks, we had 4 Blood Orange Margaritas on the rocks with sugar rim, 3 red house wines (all $7 each from HH menu) and my husband got a Lalo Blanco neat ($16) which was a nice 2 oz pour. We had made reservations for 6pm at the main restaurant in case we had any issues getting a table … but due to the great service and table in the bar, I went to the hostess desk and cancelled that. In total we were there almost 2 hours and our waiter was gracious about us staying that long. After paying the check ($160 for 4 people with tip), we left about 7:10 or so for our 8pm show. Overall, the food, drinks, decor, and service were all excellent … and you can’t beat the location right next to the Paramount and across the street from the Paramount’s recommended parking garage.

No interest in a large table

By George Randall H |

I go on an annual golf trip with friends - some I have known since kindergarten. Rather impressive if you consider the majority of the group is nearing or has hit their 50th birthday....so to be clear, we were not a bunch of kids. Some plans to go to BBQ on the last Friday night in April in Austin left us in a bit of a scramble. As we were staying at the Driskill Hotel nearby (and already had dinner there one night), we thought we would see if they could accommodate a party of 10-12 people without a reservation. To be fair it was rather late, but we figured it was worth asking. I was shocked to hear the restaurant personnel say we had to all be seated and orders placed in 15 minutes since the restaurant was closing. The place was empty, and after refusing money generating groups like ours, I am sure they will be permanently empty soon. Needless to say we left and were pleased Caroline’s across the street was more than happy to accommodate us.

Team outing in austin

By steven f |

Party of 7 visiting Austin for corporate event. Made same day reservation and they were able to accommodate us on relatively short notice. Service (ashley) was impeccable. Food was very good. I ordered the rib eye special which had great flavor even though cut was slightly fattier than expected. Everyone else very much enjoy there meals - bonein filet, bonein pork chop, pork tenderloin, and salmon. Cherry pie and pecan pie were very good. Definite return visit in our future.

Great food, fantastic atmosphere at the bar.

By Mike M |

Had a bit of a wait (it was after the first football game of the season) but was totally worth it. Amazing steak, fantastic salmon.

Tortilla soup

By Texama |

I usually come here for a steak which are always exceptional. But tonight decided to settle for bar food. I had a tortilla soup experience like never before. The presentation is striking and the soup is more like a stew. This one is worth trying especially if you like a thicker broth

Amazing

By guillermomZ8284JK |

This place was fantastic. It was our first visit and were not sure about food options, but the food and service was outstanding. I definitely recommend and will be returning to this restaurant.

Holiday Party

By Dianna G |

We had our office party, 49 people, at the Downtown Roaring Fork. It was spectacular! From Gabriel, who coordinated our event to Cliff, our head waiter. We had an abundance of wait staff. Never an empty glass-and everything, EVERYTHING, came out freshly prepared and hot. They had managers set up directing serving staff on delivery of the entrees, there was not one misstep. We had a spectacular evening and our staff is still raving about it. The food was wonderful. We had a menu with awesome options and it did not disappoint. The only thing that was difficult, and that is because it is downtown, is parking. But the Valets were great at the hotel--they took wonderful care of everyone. Highly recommend and will definitely visit again!! (need more of the green chile mac and cheese)

An untasty Easter brunch

By Barbara P |

Went today for Easter brunch. Had the corn bread and french fries for appetizers. They were both decent. The rest of the meal was pretty bad. Chicken tortilla soup was presented as a thick brown, bland gravy (really weird), shrimp and chorizo in the shrimp and grits were both overcooked. My niece took one bite of her entree which was the steak Benedict and had to run to the restroom. She does not like spicy food. She asked if it was spicy and was told it was sweet and savory sauce. Tasted like Tabasco with lots of salt. And finally the green Chile pork stew was also very salty. The person who waited on on table did a good job and substituted the salmon for the eggs Benedict. We just didn't feel like telling her that most of the food was inedible. We figured it wasn't her fault.

Flavorful and juicy cuts of meat

By SimeyTravels |

We had to send our first steak order back. I *never* do that, so it was up to my friend to signal her dissatisfaction, leading to a change in meat type, but even our waiter was in agreement with our decision. Let me fill in this story. We showed up kind of late on our last night in town, hungry and looking for a hearty meal and a quiet place to chat. We were shown to a table right away, given two menus, a basket of bread and water. We both decided we wanted Prime Rib, and were going to share a side of the Mexican Street Corn. We placed that order and one for drinks with our waiter, then sat back to wait. Our waiter came back maybe 3 minutes later, telling us that they were near the end of the prime rib roast, and to tell us that the chef thought he'd be able to get two quality cuts out still, but wanted to make us aware. When he returned with the plates, he also came with apologies. The cuts definitely weren't quality, and he was already suggesting that we send them back before he even put them on the table. I could tell just by looking at the meat that it was way too overcooked to be okay, but my friend made a show out of cutting into her slice and tasting it. She then proclaimed what the three of us already knew: it was way too well done to be eaten, and the waiter took them back to the kitchen. He came back out with the Mexican Street Corn side and the manager, who apologized for the inconvenience, and offered to sub our prime rib with filet mignon cuts, instead. In reality, what they did was comp us the corn side dish, which just about made up the difference between the cost of the prime rib and the cost of the filet. The "replacement" steaks were juicy, flavorful and cooked to perfection. Again, both the waiter and the manager came out with our plates, and brought out their phones to shine their flashlight (app) on the meat as we cut it open, to ensure it was cooked the way we liked it. A bit of production, there, but it worked. We were left with some delicious steaks, a really tasty side dish (the roasted corn, cream and cheese worked well together), and the prime rib horseradish sauce that we used to slather over our filet cuts.

Redfish was too notch

By topsherman |

The redfish with quinoa and tomatoes was top notch. I was leery of the tomato but it had a spicy kick and complemented the fish well. The bartenders were very friendly.

Almost 5 stars

By TexasNurseMom35 |

First time in for dinner tonight. Went with friends before a show at the theatre next door. Food was excellent. At our table we had cedar plank salmon, two different steaks and spit fired chicken. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Only complaint was slow service. Out actual server was good. But it was almost an hour from the time we ordered to the time we got our food. They were busy and most customers seemed to be going to the same show as us.

Excellent Food - Awesome Service

By neenee561 |

We were a party of 5 couples and everyone gave a strong 5 stars to the food and service. We had cocktails, appetizers, wine, entrees (beef and seafood) and everything was absolutely delicious! Our waitperson was helpful, friendly and professional - not always easy with 5 senior couples. Our only regret is that was live in Charlotte, NC or we would be back frequently. Well done, Roaring Fork!

Food and service was above average

By Jeff T |

Good place to grab a meal. The fish tacos were above average for Austin. Service was attentive. However the seating hosts need to step up their sense of urgency

Good food and good service

By Jeff D |

We had a great meal and the service was very good too. We have visited before and every time the food has been consistent well prepared. I will say it is pretty expensive, but I think when you decide to eat on Congress Avenue you probably should expect to help pay for the high rent.

Nice restaurant, slow service, there are better options

By betihavebeenthere |

Nice restaurant, but incredibly slow service.. ordered drinks at 6:15, they finally all arrived at 6:40 and immediately ordered dinner and advised our server we had to leave by 7:40 for a show. Meal arrived at 7:20, so we rushed through the entree, requested/paid bill and left. Blackened redfish filet was thin and overcooked, but seasoned well. Trout was very nice, chicken was good, but the highlight of the entire meal were the grits. I would probably go somewhere else next time as there are plenty of other choices within a few blocks.

Delicious steak

By 32brucebeach |

A beautiful restaurant. Love the decor. The service was very good and the filet mignon delicious and cooked perfectly. The location is great. They have a beautiful bar area with a real fireplace.

Awesome Happy Hour in the lounge / bar - 4-6pm everyday!

By Brenda S |

Drove in from Houston spur of the moment to see a show at the Paramount which is next door. I kept searching for a happy hour that we would not have to dress too fancy for. The Roaring Fork was perfect and jeans / nice shorts were fine. We arrived around 5:20pm and got the last seats at the bar for 2 people as a lot of people were apparently going to the theater as well (show started at 7pm). This was perfect as happy hour is 4pm to 6pm every day and they have fantastic prices (all drinks and food on the HH menu is $7) and delicious food / drinks. We tried the Tortilla Soup, Queso Con Puerco, HH Beef Tacos, Raging Rita Frozen Huckleberry ($1 up-charge for the flavor). My husband got Lalo Blanco neat ($16) which was a nice 2 oz pour. Of everything we tried, we loved it all. Having said that, the Tortilla Soup was probably the weakest of the items we got. It’s worth trying though as the presentation is very fancy (mound of food in the middle and then they pour the liquid soup over it). I can’t remember why I decided I wouldn’t get it again though - maybe because it wasn’t that spicy. It was a lot of food for $7 though - so definitely a good value. The decor was great, including the leather belts that are used to signify the restrooms. The bartender was very busy given all the folks that arrived at the same time for happy hour pre-theater but we still had great service. Overall - I loved the dining at the bar and would definitely return next time we’re in Austin.

So Much Fun

By WilliamTheSilent |

We had no idea when we were tired from traveling stumbled into this establishment how much fun it would be. Everybody there, from staff to patrons, are extremely friendly and will have a conversation with you. Maybe there is positive energy in the walls? The food is also excellent. You can't go wrong. We were there for a convention and during our stay we got to know Kaylee and Sir Derek who treated us like royalty. This place is welcoming and has a great vibe.

Great fish and steak with a smile

By photo999 |

Went in with a colleague for a business dinner. Promptly seated and served. The prime rib was great as was the fish special recommended by the server. The sautéed mushroom and mac and cheese sides were also very tasty. Menu had a fair amount of variety. Someone at the table next to us ordered a burger that looked awesome, and is what I'll try when I return.

Beautiful restaurant in the heart of Austin

By Jennifer2442 |

This is a lively restaurant and bar. We came for lunch and it was full of business people as well as tourists etc. It has a decent, moderately priced lunch menu. Service was a bit slow and our server seemed stressed and not terribly friendly which was surprising since everyone else in Austin was really nice. The food had a nice presentation. I had the trout and the others in my party had the salmon. Both had hot sauce already on them. I would suggest serving that on the side. The BLT salad had blue cheese on it which I love, but another in my party cannot eat that and it was not mentioned on the menu. The server gave a little attitude about her asking for one without the cheese then it took a long time to bring it. I know this review doesn't sound great but with a nicer server and a few tweaks to the menu I think it would be great. There is a big roaring fire and it really is a beautiful place.

Return visit

By globetrotter51_10 |

We had good memories from a previous visit and were again happy with both the food and the service. This is a well located restaurant near downtown/6th St etc. Considering that is situated in a hotel it is also very reasonably priced. We had delicious salmon and superior trout as well as a nice cherry pie with white chocolate ice cream. Very good dinner option. It's advisable to book for peak dining hours.

What a day

By Rebecca Jones |

AMAZING PLACE!! We were visiting Austin for the F1 GP & we’re looking for a steakhouse for dinner one night. Booked a table for8:15 at about 6pm so happy for the availability. Our waiter was PHENOMENAL, apologises we did not catch his name. The place was clearly busy but he still had time for us and recommended where to visit the following day. The food was sooooo good, some of the best food I’ve ever had. THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND!!

business meeting celebration

By fateville |

our group visited recently after a successful meeting in the Arboretum area. I enjoyed the 16oz porkchop/squash dish with BLT salad; others had the bigass burger...some even shared that and were satisfied. The carnitas, the steaks...all excellent.

Nice Ambience, Decent Steaks

By TAGit |

The ambience is very nice here even though it is a hotel restaurant. Service was excellent! Food was good but not outstanding. Prices were reasonable for a nice Texas steak house. I’d recommend it for a casual evening where you want something less pricey than Perry’s but more upscale than the 6th Street eateries.

Awesome Dried aged steaks and burger

By Charles S |

Service was great. Waitress took great care of us. The food was excellent. Best meal we had in Austin. People at the table had the guacamole dip / chops. Good. Steaks were amazingly good. Burger I had was excellent

Great food and Service

By Bob J |

A wide menu featuring steaks, pork, seafood. Higher end restaurant but certainly worth the price. Pretty busy place so you might experience a slight delay during peak times. All food served was top notch, can go wrong here.

Good food nice atmosphere

By Sharon E |

Husband is really picky, but he loved his rotisserie chicken dinner with green beans and suasage cornbread. I had frenchonion soup which was good. I also tried the spinach salad which was only okay, the dressing was lacking. Overall great location and nice atmosphere.

Nice upscale reaturant

By FBF |

We picked this restaurant just by walking around downtown Austin and it was a gem. Everyone in our party loved their meal and cocktails. The blackened redfish was outstanding; so tasty, tender, and moist. One of the best meals during our Texas trip. The restaurant itself is very pretty and inviting and our waiter was very good as well.

We MUST go back

By Kathleen T |

We went in at 6:15 and there was a 45 minute wait, so we went to the bar to eat. It was a good decision. The entire restaurant is very cozy and classy but not “stuffy”. People were having a good time and the wait staff was friendly. Since it was happy hour there were special prices on apps and sandwiches. We got the Big Ass Burger for $10. It was huge- and included French fries, lettuce, tomato and pickle. Absolutely delicious - prime beef. Our neighbor had a steak from the regular menu and he said his steak was amazing - he took a healthy leftover slice home. We did not have room for dessert ! 5 star food in a casual atmosphere.

Very Nice Dinner

By hickster2014 |

Our 1st time in Austin, we had made reservations ahead due to the people in town for ACL. We loved the atmosphere, the service was very good, drinks and dinner delicious. We didn’t feel rushed and enjoyed our relaxed dinner. Would definitely return.

A well spent afternoon.

Great hamburger. Well-made margarita. Pleasant atmosphere on deck overlooking lake. Service was prompt and courteous.

Fantastic Dining Experience!!!

By Tom F |

The service was great, the food was excellent, the ambiance was serene. I had a nice salad and the Prime Rib, which melted in my mouth. The options for sides were excellent and tasted great!!!

Upscle dining in downtown Austin

By Cheryl C |

White linen tablecloths and chunky guacamole. The filet melts in your mouth and the chocolate flourless torte are all outstanding!

Good food, great service

By Alan G |

The latest of several visits, this location is perfect for before/after Paramount/Stateside shows. The menu is varied, basic American fare, the wine list is fine, prices reasonable and the food consistently good. Service has always been great, but on this visit, outstanding. Recommend both of the Austin locations.

Not vegetarian friendly

By TX_Travelling_Scotsman |

My friends were happy with their steaks (hense the 3 stars) but the vegetarians at the table were definitely not a consideration on the menu. You're limited to a mix of the sides. For a restaurant that's aiming for a higher end clientele that's a bit laughable in this day and age. Throw some tofu as a protein option or even a veggie burger. There's genuine bar b q places in Austin that do a better job catering to non meat eater which should be shocking.

Limited Menu - Website does not reflect true availability

By eaglejs7 |

My wife and I were visiting my son and daughter in law and took them out for a nice dinner. They chose Roaring Fork in downtown Austin. We checked the menu online and saw they offered Rainbow Trout and Fish Tacos. We were not in the mood for steak but the kids were. We arrived at the restaurant. Nice atmosphere - but only a view of the traffic outside. Waiter advised that both of the fish entries were not available. The website is wrong. My wife had a Caesars salad and I had the 8 oz filet mignon cooked medium well. Caesars salad was a 5 out of 10. My steak was charred crusty on the outside and very well done and dry on the inside. Keep in mind that this filet carried a price tag equivalent to Ruth's Chris or Mortons. Final bill for 4 people $350 for awful food. Avoid this place. Austin has great restaurants. This is not one of them.

Delicious.

By Michael B |

Dinner with a group of about 15 friends and couldn’t have been any better. The steak Oscar was delicious, Mac and cheese was one of the best I’ve tried and the service was very attentive.

Fine dining in a convenient location!

By Kacky C |

Convenient restaurant, right in our hotel---no walking outside in the heat! Wonderful food, excellent service, nice ambience. All in all, a fine dining experience. We actually had dinners there two evenings while in Austin for our National Elks Convention, with two different groups, and both times everyone was very pleased with food and service. Steaks, redfish, burger, pork tenderloin---all outstanding.

Excellent Group Dining

By LivMcGiv |

A group of us (13) pre-booked to dine here and were pleasantly surprised to be taken to a room away from the main restaurant with one other large table in it. The noise level in this room however did seem to be particularly loud with the number of people in it. The restaurant is large and busy, but the service was brilliant and we felt really looked after. The wines really complimented the food we had and I liked that they had nice quality drink ware. I had the salmon - and it is probably the biggest piece of salmon I have ever been served in a restaurant. It was so fresh and really nicely cooked. Really good food and it had something for everyone.

Another great place to eat and drink

By whydoineed30242 |

A little more upscale, but still fun. We sat in the bar area (no reservation required) and had drinks and a good meal. Drink prices where 1/3 off during happy hour (until 7PM). I had lamb plate that was good and my dinner date had a chicken dish that she enjoyed. I tried the tortilla soup as an appetizer and was not disappointed. Servings were good and do to HH end cost was good. The dress was across the spectrum (I was in T and shorts), suits, dates, and jeans.

One of the best value spots & great service

By bjorn5555 |

We went to the Driskell for drinks ($$$) then to the Roaring fork for dinner. Reservations suggested! Great choice. Very reasonable priced menu. They do have $$$$ options but many items such as the 1/2 chicken for $19. Decent wine menu. We had great service and plenty of food.

Quick lunch of Appetizers- Excellent Food!

By Luvamoose67 |

While here for a small conference, a co-worker and I were trying out restaurants for our large convention in January. We've eaten a lot this past few days and still really wanted to try Roaring Forks, so we stopped in to grab some appetizers for lunch. We chose Queso con Puerco and the Green Chile Pot with buttered tortillas. The waiter was lovely when we let him know that would be our light lunch. Both items were steaming hot, full of flavor and surpassed my expectations. Texas queso is nothing like our Northeast queso, thin but so full of flavor and topped with even more flavorful herbs! Roaring Forks is on my short list now for our group dinner in January. Stellar service, delicious food and beautiful restaurant.

It was disappointing dinner

Roaring Fork has very good location on the Austin center, we like restaurant with white table cloth, and menu looked good for us, but final is we were very disappointed. Service was just O.K., but food was really bad. We ordered fish, it was not tasty , but eatable, but mussel we returned back. I never ate so bad mussel , looks like they were not fresh at all. No body apologize or asked me about substitute. We are not came back or recommende this place to our friend.

Weeknight Business Dinner

By CTLark |

Ate dinner here with five coworkers. Attentive wait staff, well prepared entrees with very fresh ingredients prepared in innovative ways. Mix of meat, fish and a vegetarian option. Ala carte entrees only with sides priced around $9. Reasonable wine list, beer in bottles or cans — no drafts. Noise level was fairly high during the weeknight visit. Would definitely eat here again.

Hard to read menu in dark

By KCC09876 |

Invited by coworkers to eat here. Customer service was good. Seated quickly & drink orders quickly taken. Customer service was decent. Food served hot and was nicely seasoned, and tasted good. Prices were expectedly in the high range, but food of high quality. Nice meal. Only downside was the restaurant was dark and it was very hard to read the menus.

Very good food in a relaxing atmosphere

By AnniDK |

We wanted a real American burger and we found it. It was grilled perfect. There was plenty of food, and all tasted very good. It wasn't fancy, but very honest. The service was very good and the waiter very attentive.

Great Vibe and Great Food!!

By Kevin V |

Loved the ambiance of Roaring Fork, although it was a bit noisy in the area of our table. Very nice mix of selections on the menu of both meat and seafood choices. We started with a simple queso (with pork and peppers) and chips. Loved the queso, chips were nothing special. We then split a wedge salad which was really good. For entrees, we went with the famous “kick ass “ burger and the rainbow trout. The burger certainly lives up to its name - it is huge and very tasty. The rainbow trout was also a very nice surprise with tasty crispy skin. Finished everything off with a great piece of pecan pie. Service was excellent throughout the meal and prices were fair considering good quality....

Perfect for the after work dinner with colleagues

By verybari |

The four of us were deciding where to eat after work, and there were several choices in the area. Someone suggested Thai, and I don't particuarly like Thai, so I found Roaring Fork here on TripAdvisor. It had good ratings, so it seemed a safe choice. Fortunately for me, it was a hit for everyone. The ambiance was just right. It was quiet enough to hold a conversation, the food was great, and the subdued just enough to give us a relaxing time. I look forward to going there when I'm in town again.

Solid but not special

By Phil P |

This is a great location for a meal before a show at the Paramount (literally next door). The food was the highlight - everything we had was delicious. Champagne by the glass was inappropriately served in a large, red wine glass. The service was faulty (e.g. drinks arrived after appetizers, and only when we asked if they were coming) and somewhat cold. The ambiance was fine but came across as a bit generic. Summary: food 5, service 3, atmosphere and value both 4.

Excelente comida

By patricia spagnuolo martineli |

During our time in Austin for SXSW, we went to dinner at Roaring Fork. Excellent restaurant! If not the best salmon, it was definitely one of the best we've ever had. I can only say that the air conditioning was so cold, so cold that we couldn't wait to leave the restaurant. What a shame! But this is a restaurant we would go back to in the summer... We won't be able to be cold anymore!

Perfect filet

By Randy F |

The best food we had this trip! First the caso sauce with chips hit the stop. I had the 8oz filer, cooked to a perfect med-rare. Onions and mushrooms on top, an absolutely delicious sause all over the filet. Tender as anything else I've had. The smashed potatoes were a great side. My wife had the rainbow trout with asparagus and a side of mac n cheese. I did taste hers so I could accurately write this review, it was also very good. Tyler, our waiter, was on the spot. He made the meal extra enjoyable.

Great choice in downtown Austin

By BBAz |

We’ve dined at Roaring Fork in Scottsdale and decided to try this one. It did not disappoint. Service from Ashley was fast and friendly with good menu advice. We ordered a Caesar salad to share, the lamb chops fondue (three meaty chops and spicy fondue), and grilled fish tacos. Everything was great.

Cramped place and a frustrated waiter

By Manoj N Karnavar |

A very cramped restaurant with hardly any space to sit and dine . The cocktails tasted like medicine and the food was mediocre. The icing to the cake was the server who had a huge attitude. She was rude and felt like she was ordering to us instead of taking our orders . It appeared that she was showing all the frustrations to us in the table. And for her service the restaurant charged us a 20 % mandatory tip . I will never visit this restaurant in my life !

Highlight of my trip to Austin

By Loki_and_Odin |

Two night stay in Austin and this was the highlight. There are so many good eating options in Austin that to be amongst the best is grand challenge but Roaring Fork is there. Semicasual bar/grill type place. Moderate prices that are well aligned with most other options. Variety in the menu but everything is carefully prepared and delicious. I had the trout and it was awesome. Great food in good company. Nice location right downtown. Service was a bit slow is my only complaint.

Amateur Hour - Worst Steak Chef in Austin

By BackinthUK |

It started good, the waiter was good and the cocktails decent, the french onion soup was okay, not the best but decent - and then it went downhill. Out of the five steaks ordered, two of the medium-rare filets had to go back as they were medium-well, and my medium-rare rib eye was fine on the crust but raw and cold inside. Utterly, utterly useless cooking. This was the first steak I've returned in about 5 years, as I'm not super fussy, but if they can't get it at least in the ball park, then get a new chef. Asparagus was plentiful, but the bases hadn't been peeled so were woody and stringy (just so amateurish). We ate on the sides while the steaks came back, the filets had been redone and were fine, my rib eye had been reheated, which is never great - and arrived in a sweet jus which wasn't on the plate when it left (feel like they added it to keep in moist). There were apologies, but no offer of a complimentary coffee, or anything. I went to another restaurant the following night and had a great steak, look at my other reviews. I feel this can't be typical for this restaurant, and maybe having a bad night, or a cook who needs to be dishwashing. This was Friday 20th dinner - and they just need to do better.

Decent restaurant within Sonesta hotel

By Spectacle64 |

Didn't fancy walking out as it was late, so stayed within the hotel and ate here. Can't charge to room so restaurant operates separately. Sat in bar area rather than restaurant as more interesting for a solo traveller. Quite expensive but good without being outstanding. Ate much better elsewhere within walking distance so my recommendation would be to walk out and explore other dining options.

Great Restaurant

By michaelgD4324DX |

We stayed across the street at SPG, but I ate here three times. 2 lunches solo and 1 dinner with my wife. For lunch, I had the Caesar Salad and added chicken for an extra $6, and a Small A$$ Burger which was 8 ounces and both very good. For dinner, I had the Redfish... Delicious!! Also, the Liquor was reasonably priced. The Blanton's Bourbon was only $13, that in itself was a steal.

Nice Lunch

By Mark P |

Roaring Fork is in the Intercontinental Hotel. It offers good food in a nice and casual setting. Service was very good, and I was pleased with the restaurant as a lunch option.

Family Birthday Dinner

By Andiekcarrs |

The food was incredible and the atmosphere was relaxing. It’s a perfect place for date night or business dinner. We had a party of 8 and none of us had to yell across the table to hear each other. I can’t wait to go back!

Evening dinner with family, all happy

By Sara H |

Nice service staff looking after us, food was fine, not outstanding but acceptable Very dark inside the bar area where we had to sit as no tables in the restaurant area

Busy restaurant and bar

By swdctd |

We went for dinner after 8 pm. This place is busy and fills up fast when there is a show close by. We waited until the crowd died down and had a nice light dinner. Went again for a late night cocktail and it was great. Bartenders efficient and friendly.

Out of Town Business Dinner

By AMarie525 |

Outstanding food! There were 17 of us and the food, wine and service did not disappoint! We were seated at a long table and ordered lots of top notch wine and pass around apps. I did not hear one complaint from anyone on the food and the portions were hardy enough for some to share or taste test. I loved the atmosphere and the service was fast, friendly and professional. We were in town for a business dinner and a close walk to the Omni where we were staying.

Excellence

Visiting Austin and had dinner here. Food is excellent. I had appetizers and everything on menu is excellent. I recommend the chicken spinach Waldorf salad. Our server z Lauren was superb.

Our best mean in Austin

By Blair F |

Cooked in a wood burning fireplace. This is one of the most interesting and best restaurants in Austin. If you try nothing else get the green chile pork. The menu is limited meaning they don't keep crap around no one orders. All the food was super fresh and delicious.

Nice spot for fine dining

By Gregsky |

Went here with some colleagues recently. We shared some fresh guacamole and tortilla chips and some bacon/onion Brussels sprouts, then I had the spit-roasted half chicken, which came with green beans and sausage cornbread stuffing (amazing). Food was fresh and tasty. Service was fast and friendly.

Great for lunch!

By Sam K |

Ended up here at the last minute. A simple lunch salad with grilled salmon ended up being one of the most delicious meals we had in Austin! Truffle fries were lovely too! Would def go back, and recommend to others.

Best Big Ass Burger in town!

By Paul C |

Best Burger in TX + excellent beef short ribs + wonderful service and atmosphere. We visited the place twice with Clay, our server. Wine prices are ok. Reservations are recommended, otherwise you will eat at the bar.

This place is Really Good!

The Green chili pork stew is otherworldly Amazing Mexican Street Corn Nice Southwestern Ambiance Frozen margarita is very good Cons: cocktails are small/pricey

Great Location and Great Steak

Roaring Fork has a location downtown, but I went to the Arboretum location, easy to park here, and the food is excellent.

I highly recommend this restaurant

By Ardis S |

Went with 5 others to a nice dinner to kick off our annual conference. It was a beautiful evening with great waitstaff. We have the planked salmon and the Filet Minion both excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Cooked to Perfection

By Dennis10_51 |

Looking for a good piece of meat, look no further. The Roaring Fork is a great choice. My filet mignon was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Cocktails were not bad either.

Great Vibe & Great Food

By Jeff G |

Possibly the best burger we've ever had. Staying at the Hotel Intercontinental and decided to have a late snack split of a burger at this comfortable and trendy restaurant that is off the lobby area. It was 3/4 of a pound of excellent fresh ground sirloin and was way more then we expected. The gentleman next to us was having a pork entree that looked spectacular. Austin has a reputation of being a good foodie city and this place didn't disappoint. The challenge will be not to come back in the next day or so and continue to explore the many options this city has to offer during our brief stay.

Roaring Fork is among our favorite restaurants.

We enjoyed our experience in every way. The welcome, menu, service, food and wine list were all excellent. We will return.

Food was amazing, service was outstanding. Great location right down the street from our state capitol. We will return on our next trip to Austin. G&L

Great Business Dinner!

By Ljsw05 |

A local recommended this for our business dinner and it did not disappoint. Steaks were perfectly prepared and among the best our table had tasted. Service was good. WIne list was decent, could use a bit more depth. Prices were appropriate for the level of food and service. Would definitely return.

Great food - excellent portions

By James S |

Super food, exquisitely prepared and great selection. Mac-n-cheese side dish is not to be skipped and could be a meal!

Great Place to Eat

By marshatraveller |

We arrived at the hotel so it was convenient to eat here. We ordered the buger and fries. Burger was amazing. Fries a bit rubbery. We were very tired after a long days travel from the UK. Order arrived quickly. Server was very attentive and polite. Will certainly come here again during our stay.

Dinner for two

By Nicholas F |

The food was good! Service was good. Seating wasn't the best but we made do, for having reservations, it would have been nice to have had a booth or table not part of a shared bench. Anyway we enjoyed ourselves and would return again.

Terrible Customer Service

By mawb14 |

We went to this restaurant during our visit to Austin for a football game. We asked for a table for 6 and were seated. One of our sons friends ( Over 30 year old professional) came into the restaurant and we told him to pull up a chair at our table. The manager came to us and said we could not have 7 people at our table because we asked for a table for 6. There were empty tables and in the restaurant and plenty of room at our table for an extra person. We had already ordered a bottle of champagne and were getting ready to order food. She asked us to leave. We were shocked to say the least. The owner of the Roaring Fork needs to know that his manager is throwing out paying customers. The three young men in our party were 30 year old professionals with plenty of money and who live in Austin. They will never go back to this restaurant and will tell their friends not to go there. Bad Business!

Tasty tacos

By BrownNutOnion |

Met a friend from SF here for tacos and a catch up. Nice space, tasty food, friendly staff, decent drinks list, his steak was very good.

Very Pleasant

By CTMans |

The Roaring Fork is located inside the Intercontintal Hotel (entrances both from lobby or from Congress Ave). There is a large central bar with surrounding tables set very nicely. There are a few large screen TVs and there is some noise from the bar, but the southwestern decor is very nice and many tables enjoy views of the street for people watching. The food is excellent though the southwestern menu is a bit of an enigma. Fish tacos? Yes. Smoked chicken? Yes. High end steaks? Yes. Not a big menu, but something for most everyone. We tried fish tacos and grilled salmon and we were very pleased by our food. Prices were moderate and service was excellent.

Not impressed

By ElmerMay06 |

Service at this hotel restaurant is abysmal. Ordered the burger with a side of mac and cheese. Bigger bun than burger Mac and cheese not much flavor. If you want condiments be prepared to wait at least 5 minutes.. Dessert... I had a couple of bites of flourless chocolate cake straight out of the freezer.

Succulent steak

By Ellebee |

Lovely meal with beautiful succulent steak. Compared to uk prices this was really expensive but it was also really good. Desserts good value and large as were the cocktails . Good cocktails and great service

Great burgers, salads at the bar

By Rich G |

Slightly upscale spot for a light lunch, but we enjoyed it. We sat at the bar and grabbed a couple Bloodwork IPAs, and an Austin East Cider, and ordered the "half-a** burger" (half size of the larger version) and a spinach chicken waldorf salad. Very good food. Will go back.

Roar Louder

By Allen P |

We stopped by for a business dinner for our first visit here. Very interesting layout with a massive open kitchen, including a big stack of firewood. The food was very good, but the service was poor. It was almost impossible to entertain getting a second drink as we rarely saw our server. Do not even think about dessert! Best to try eating here again at lunch. I appreciate today's challenges around staffing, but if you had problems, why did you take a reservation?

Great X 3! Great food, service & atmosphere

By Linda B. |

Read mixed reviews on Yelp but decided this was in a good location, so we gave it a try. It did not disappoint! Nice atmosphere. We sat in bar area & we received great service. We felt food quality was excellent, portions were generous & prices good for what we received.I had chicken enchiladas & they were very tasty! Husband had soup & chicken sandwich & he was pleased, too. The steaks on the grill smelled fabulous but it was lunchtime so we opted for lighter fare. It has a very rich, dark lodge feel in bar but the dining area, I would describe as casual elegance. Not a hipster or trendy place….we’d return for sure if in the area.

Could NOT have been better!!!!

By K Larson |

Friday night during the ROT Bike Rally, we had EXCELLENT service from our server, Miranda!!! The food could not have been better!! Drinks, service and food made it a GREAT night!! So glad we went!! The Waldorf chicken was amazing!! So good I went back Saturday night and got one to go!!!

Good steaks and service

By bkbmom |

We had dinner here and were very pleased with the quality of the food, speed of service, and efficiency of our server. I had the NY strip and my husband had the filet mignon. We split sides of steak mushrooms and crispy fries. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides were also delicious. The server could've been a tad friendlier but she was good. Maybe it's a Texan thing but we thought it odd that my husband couldn't get béarnaise to go with his filet mignon. Other than that, everything was great. We enjoyed our meal, would return, and we'd recommend it to friends.

poor service

By Margaret Lindsay |

Waited a hour for food in the end left, server not invested just kept walking past, no glass for beer as they were all in the wash

Professional Servers Treat Guests With Respect And Appreciation

By HappierInNewEngland |

While staying at the Stephen F. Austin Royal Sonesta Hotel, I dined at the Roaring Fork Restaurant twice. While in Texas, I was eager to have quality steak, and reviews suggested that this centrally located, upscale downtown restaurant offers some of the best around. Service at Roaring Fork is exceptional. For both visits, I made same-day reservations with pleasant hostesses who staff the stand perched next to the Congress Street entrance. Helpful reminder texts were sent. During the first visit, I was seated alone in a booth at the front of the restaurant that was very comfortable except for the fact that I was chilled by cool air blowing from a fan above. It's possible that the fan works overtime in that location near the kitchen. The couple at the adjacent table mentioned their discomfort to the server, who seemed somewhat surprised and promised to address it, but I suspect that that location in the restaurant is a cool microclimate. On a hot day in Texas it would likely provide welcome relief, but on this evening I was wishing I had brought an outer layer. The food and drink were generally fabulous. For starters on both visits, I chose the guacamole dip, which was fantastic. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and met every expectation for a homegrown steak. I added lump crab with hollandaise sauce, which was okay, except for there were inedible, solid pieces that I had difficulty extracting. For dessert, I splurged on tasty creme brulee. On the second visit, my brother and I were seated behind the bar, where the temperature was quite comfortable. I sampled two different cuts of beef, the New York Strip that I ordered, along with a taste of my brother's ribeye. Once again, the locally sourced beef was excellent. If you are attending an event or show at the neighboring iconic Paramount Theatre, Roaring Fork would be an excellent dining option. Roaring Fork is a wonderful downtown establishment where you will be treated with great respect and appreciation. The servers are extraordinarily professional and dedicated, and you can count on the food being of the highest quality.

Close to the Texas Capitol building

By BushkaTexas |

Pretty good food here, very slow service. In Austin for the Texas legislature. This took about 15 minutes to get to from the south entrance of the capitol building. Easy walk. Nice atmosphere.

Interesting name, great food

By bmccormack362 |

Ate here on a business trip to Austin and really enjoyed it! Well layed out in the dining area so it was easy to move between the tables. It sits near a small lake and during the daylight the views are beautiful, but we were there after dark so we missed that part. The presentation of the chicken tortilla soup is awesome - and it tastes just as good. I had the cedar plank salmon and loved it. My other dining companions had the rainbow trout, the blackened snapper and the NY strip and everyone enjoyed their food. Service was attentive, but not hovering. Highly recommend.

Great Food and Even Better Atmosphere

By Doug S |

We had a business dinner here and really enjoyed ourselves. Our server was amazing and the food was too. I had a burger and enjoyed it very much. everyone at the table was extremely pleased

Local Fare in a Busy Setting

By Russ855 |

This is a large regional menu heavy on the beef steaks. We did not order the latter. My shrimp and grits were fine, as well as the trout. Service was attentive but casual. The place is popular and was noisy and packed the night we were there. The manhattan cocktails were incredibly sweet. I could see going here as a group but not as a special evening out for a couple. It is just not that special.

Disappointing Meal and service

By Louise W |

Had read the reviews before checking out Roaring Fork. We were pleased to be seated straight away. We had the filet (medium) and when it arrived the server asked us to cut in to see if acceptable, he used a flash light for us to check. My husbands steak was very well done inside, so the waiter offered to have another made. In the mean time, the side dishes we ordered were going cold and I ate my meal while he waited for his. There was no offer to make fresh sides! when we asked for replacement, they charged us twice ! Disappointed. Not acceptable for the prices placed or the reputation

Delicious Huckleberry Cheesecake

By Lauri B |

My husband and I enjoyed the Queso & Chips. The cedar planked salmon was nice & light with a Teriyaki / Apricot glaze. The pork chop was delicious with sautéed spinach & cheese grits. The fireplace was a cozy spot in the bar!

Just OK in my book

By scampanozzi |

Supposedly upscale this place is nothing more than a decent steakhouse. Mostly same old menus as other steak houses but with less daily specials. Service was excellent. Once again parking is a nightmare.

Great food overshadowed by poor service and management

By TDT |

The food was great, but the service experience from both our first server and the manager was so disgraceful that I am truly shocked (which is a shame as the replacement server was very professional and the food was good). I ordered a glass of white wine when we ordered our meal, clearly meant to go with the starter. But more than 20 minutes after ordering when the starter arrived, the wine still hadn’t. I asked for it again and then again but still it didn’t come despite other guests at the table having been served their drinks. The starter went cold whilst I waited. The original server was nowhere to be seen so I had to get up and ask her if she could serve the wine to go with the starter. I explained the issue and said that, after so many attempts by me to get them to serve me and my starter going cold as a result, I felt the level of service was unacceptable. Whilst I expressed displeasure (my exact words were that I was “very unhappy”) I was not inappropriate. Rather than bring the wine, the server complained to her manager about a customer asking three times for a glass of wine to be served to go with the starter. The manager then took the rather unprofessional approach of chastising me for complaining in front of my children (making them upset). I explained politely what had happened and asked if she thought it was a acceptable to be asked to wait over 20 minutes for a glass of wine to go with the starter (which other guests at the table had now finished). I suggested she was wrong and that as a service establishment they might be better suited to serving and taking constructive feedback when things went wrong rather than attacking customers without question. To be honest I was more shocked by the manager’s unprofessional approach than the sever’s poor service (which would have gone relatively unnoticed had she rectified it). The subsequent server was superb and extremely professional and well deserving of a tip. The food was excellent and it was a thoroughly enjoyable meal. But with a service ethic such as the one displayed and the extremely poor decision of the manager to go in guns blazing without asking the customer what they were unhappy with was truly appalling and quite shocking. For that reason I would never return.

Underwhelmed

By MPTB |

Totally underwhelmed!. We dined here about 18 months ago with friends and had a wonderful experience- good food, good service, we said we would definitely return. Both occasions were on a Friday about 6; the previous occasion was in September. Yesterday was nothing to brag about at all. I’m not sure if it was our waitress or our location, I have to believe it was the waitress as I’ve sat in far corners of many restaurants and received excellent service and food. We had to ask about the features for the day which she did not describe very well. We both decided on the fish tacos as we wanted a light meal. We probably should have sent both plates back. The presentation was beautiful but the execution was not. The black beans were over salted- my husband who salts everything even said so. The fish was overcooked, my second taco the grill marks were beautiful on one side but the other side looked ‘blackened’. As I said we should have sent them back but didn’t. The check was put on the table before asking about dessert. We asked what was on the dessert menu and again her description was hurried and incomplete. We knew pecan pie was on it and she didn’t mention it. We asked and she said oh yes. We had the pecan pie which was the highlight of the evening! The pie was excellent, the presentation was a little off. If I hadn’t known that melting blob was whipped cream, I would have described it as shapeless foam. The scoop of ice cream was still frozen but was not the usual pretty scoop- it looked like She used a kitchen serving spoon instead of a scoop. I can’t say we won’t go back, but if we do it won’t be our first choice.

Wonderful atmosphere in downtown Austin

By garenholman |

We had a magnificent filet at Roaring fork which was perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is fantastic and made for a truly amazing experience. The waitstaff were friendly and polite. Pecan pie is not my go to dessert, but after a recommendation from the house, I think I have just tasted the best pecan pie ever! Complete with chocolate and toffee! Enjoy!

The food and service are amazing

By smile4you |

The food and service are amazing here. I had the roasted pork enchiladas with poblano pepper butter cream sauce. These were amazing. The chef was kind enough to tell me how he makes his sauce. I am going to try this at home. Hopefully I get close to his recipe. My husband had the small burger and fries that was huge and delicious. These items were on the lunch menu. I am going to have to go back for dinner and see what they have in surprise for us then.....

Another great visit

By 84Hokie |

We had an excellent meal here for four on a business trip. We were abit cramped at the booth table they put us at with all the plates, etc. but we made it work. From previous experience, I ordered their iceberg lettuce wedge with blue cheese and bacon, delicious and the Mexican street corn. Others had steak or chicken and we all shared appetizers. Service was excellent by a friendly recent UT grad. I was disappointed to not see the Tranquilo Red Cuvee on the menu but we made do with another excellent red - the adults shared the bottle!

Delightful lunch

By Tim |

Really enjoyed both lunch entrees. The salmon With chipotle vinaigrette was spectacular. I asked for the sauce recipe and the chef gave me a list of the ingredients. (We have already made it at home.) The server was excellent in every way. We didn't have time for dinner but would love to return.

Delicious Restaurant

By HoustonFoodAndWine |

This review is for the Stonelake location as I could not find it on TripAdvisor: We had a small gender reveal dinner and everyone was happy with the experience. The service was pleasant and friendly, the food was delicious, and the wine list was relatively decent, although the markup was a shame (but not surprising).

Make reservations! We did not but got very lucky and found seats in the bar area. Service was good, we had small plates, Salads, soups and chips. Fun atmosphere, highly recommend

Do not recommend

By Presley |

We decided to eat in the restaurant because it was connected to the hotel we are staying in. We ordered the chips and queso. The queso was good but the chips were obviously store bought. I ordered the half chicken.. it was very leathery, over salted, and tough to eat. My husband ordered the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin... it was also Dry and he said the corn tasted store bought. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, the waiter was nice (although he handed my husband a dirty plate for the appetizer), but the food was not good at all.

Superb

By Roadster2015 |

What a. Ice dinner and amazing food and service. It saved the day after a mediocre visit at the sonesta hotel. Our server Lauren was phenomenal, the steak was exactly as we liked it and well seasoned, side dishes and appetizers really inspiring. Try the "Bad ass meatballs", that their name on the menu. Just delicious!

I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner . Everyone here was very friendly and helpful Our waiter was great! He was very sweet and thoughtful this was my birthday dinner with my siblings he made sure we were well taken care of.. I accidentally dropped the back of my earring and he was down on the floor with a flash light helping us to find it.. (That really nice if him) The food was phenomenal I had the roasted chicken I keep thinking about how great it tasted and wanting more...

Not great for a corporate meeting

By Lorin S |

We had a group of 40 people that we had made arrangements for previously, they didn’t have enough are to accommodate us together ( all in one section). The wait staff was not attentive, within reason, understanding this is a large group spread out through several tables. The restaurant was loud and hard to hear others at your 4 top table. The food was good, and the steaks were excellent.

Perfect!

By AG70IT |

Great location, very attentive staff, very good appetizers, amazing juicy prime ribs, good desserts, wide wine selection. We had a business dinner in a large group and the team managed to handle everything perfectly with timely delivery of food to everybody almost at the same time.

Great Restaurant

I was invited to this restaurant by friends who live in the area. My chicken dinner was superb. The meal was accompanied by cornbread stuffing. My mouth was watering for the meal. Our waitstaff always appeared to make sure that we were satisfied. I wish that this restaurant would open on the east coast.

Great Food, Excellent Service

By Steve D |

This was my first visit to Roaring Fork but not the last. I ordered the Blackened Redfish with quinoa lentil rice pilaf. The fish was excellent! The pilaf was pretty good. The service was friendly and excellent! Some of the best around. The prices are comparable to other restaurants in the area. A great place for a special occasion, just dinner, or for business.

Fun Date Night

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere with a bar in the middle. The menu is all online and they an extensive alcohol menu. The main courses are fantastic, and the beef fondue was really tasty (and worth using the cheese for other sides). Expect around $40 minimum per person.

Do not go chain sure for a great meal or steak. Try the Fork. Dress up, eat well. Great atmosphere for date night too. Score points with the wife. But seriously, the food is outstanding, first rate service. Austin dress up, men- no tie required. Wine menus A+. Treat yourself. Valet parking is available.

Looks a great place but staff terrible

Looks a great place but staff were terrible. Hoped for nice meal after a day at COTA but left cold. Far better options around.

Purposeful and Pleasant.

Unexpected surprise! On way to a different restaurant that turned out to be a dive, went around the corner and found Roaring Fork. From the receptionist guiding us to a nice location in the restaurant to the atmosphere, to the exceptional waiter Clayton, to the excellent food—loved all of it. There are certainly other places around—but this is a place that you can keep coming back to and experience the best all around!!!

Good lunch spot

By donna s |

Stop in for late lunch. Service good. Guacamole really good. We ordered the spinach chicken Waldorf salad. It was a really good tasting salad except our chicken was very very dry and we had to order more dressing. I would be willing to go back and check out their dinner menu because the staff was so nice and i am just a little bit picky!

Great restaurant

By mikebham01 |

The name doesn't explain the restaurant. This place has a great menu offering a large selection od choices all of which we found ti be great. We had the Thirsty Goat, Green chili mac and cheese, and rainbow trout. Yep ate it all!!

Lacking identity, good, not excellent

By jowegihi |

While I sat in the restaurant, they were playing alternative/rock music, but are trying to be a rustic dining experience. The restaurant was also noisy, so the music was not necessary and also didn't support the theme. All of the food was good. I wouldn't say it was special food. Certainly, it was better than the average chain, but there are much better dining options in Austin

Anniversary

By HelenNorthants |

Celebrated our 42nd anniversary here. The steaks were first class and cooked to perfection. Our waiter was very helpful in recommending sides. Without his advice we would have ordered enough for half the restaurant! Would recommend for a special occasion.

definitely want a dinner reservation

By LynneSundbergNimmer |

We had dinner recently at the Roaring Fork on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin. It was conveniently located to our hotel, and we had an early reservation so we could continue on to our evening entertainment after dinner. My husband had the spit-roasted half chicken, which he thought was delicious, juicy, and very tender. I had the Chicken Waldorf Chopped Spinach Salad which included roasted chicken, grapes, candied walnuts and other savory ingredients. The service was very quick at the beginning, but as 6 p.m. approached, the restaurant got very busy and noisy, and then our server's attention waned a bit. Given the quality and flavors of the food, we would definitely go back for lunch or dinner.

Not just steak!

For a history lover, the fact that this venue is located in a historical building was just the cherry on top of this exceptional dining experience. The vibe is warm and welcoming, a bustling bar just on the right and a crackling fireplace just a head. Thee lighting is dimmed but adequate illuminating the subtle but charming Texan decor. We were escorted to our lovely table tucked in the back, offering a marvelous view of the main dining area and the partially open air kitchen. The aromas had us at hello Our waitress was ever present but not intrusive, patient and helpful when posed with special dietary requests and allergy information questions— just a peach. As expected the food fabulous. We started with housemaid cornbread (still in the piping hot skillet) which was outrageously delicious even without the large vessel of whipped butter at the side— there was a hint of poblano for taste and it worked exceptionally well. Likewise, the house made guacamole with warm chips made for a wonderful choice. Several of our party went for the steak— Lucky for the rest of us, they shared tastes of the perfectly prepared, perfectly spiced meat offerings. My father-in-law is a Texan male through and through, and is extremely particular about his meat having owned his own barbecue restaurant. When he says his steak was one of the best he has ever had, that is a testament you cannot argue with. Two of our party had the fish, salmon and trout, with big grind and two thumbs up from each. I thoroughly enjoyed my shrimp and grits— again a touch of heat to the sauce but flavorfully lip smacking. The sides were enjoyed by the table with special props given to the Brussels sprouts. Although we did not have the room, we tasted the Mexican vanilla bean crème brûlée with berries and the warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream on top— just marvelous!

Amazing Food & Service!!!

We had a family dinner here during our Trip to Austin. There were 6 of us and we all enjoyed our food and service.

Excellent service

We had reservations for three on Valentine's Day at this very popular restaurant. Sam, our server, was very attentive and helped us with our choices. The classic margarita on the rocks was perfect. My daughter prefers the huckleberry frozen margarita. We ordered the queso con puerco which really wasn't to my liking but others thought it was ok. The iceberg BLT was excellent. I wasn't as fond of the grilled fish tacos, maybe it was the remoulade that wasn't a hit for me. My husband enjoyed the slow roasted carnitas. The huckleberry cheesecake is a must to order!

Good for Huckleberries

Not the cheapest place you'll find for dinner, but food was good. We had a big lunch, so wife and daughter weren't overly hungry - waiter was very accomodating. They ordered sides instead, Mexican street corn was excellent. I had rainbow trout, it was cooked perfectly. Oh, and order a margarita, spend the extra dollar for either mango or huckleberry - they were fantastic.

PreGame #2

Went to the Roaring Fork when they opened for happy hour at 4. I had a dirty vodka martini with blue cheese olives which our great bartender made fresh for me. My wife had the frozen margarita which she said was very good and packed a punch. We would have stayed for another and tasted the food but we weren’t hungry after a good lunch at the Driskill. Wife and I enjoyed it very much.

Terrible server

By Cruiser23755609219 |

We had eaten here once before and loved it. This time however the service was terrible. We were waiting for the server to box one meal and had already given him our credit card. It took a long time and when we looked back he was visiting with other staff. He had been slow the entire time and this was the final straw for us.

Excellent Restaurant / Great Food

Really great restaurant with brilliant food. Thoroughly recommend. Enormous portions so consider carefully whether you can manage an appetiser. The carnitas was superb. Service excellent. Also recommend the blush orange margarita cocktail. Recommend booking as its very busy.

Disappointing !!

By Joe L |

The waiter offered a special dry aged steak, went away to book it. Two hours later, yes two hours he came back saying that I should pick something else since they gave away my booked steak to somebody else !! Other people of our party had cold steaks, the fries were cold. Super slow service. Not impressed, will definitely not return !

Great steaks

By WanderingWayfarer |

We sat at the bar since there was a wait. Started with chips and queso which was very tasty and moved on the steaks which we cooked perfectly and delicious. The building is historic and loved the atmosphere. It’s definitely a lively bar and we enjoyed our meal.

Roaring Fork superb

Awesome experience food was fantastic and Shelby our hosts was outstanding very friendly and very helpful with our menu choices. All in all the best meal we had while in Austin for 6 days

Simply amazing

By mttaylor9 |

To say that we loved Roaring Fork wouldn't do it justice. With so many great choices in Austin, Roaring Fork still managed to blow us away. The bacon wrapped pork loin was maybe one of my all time favorite bites...ever!! The burger was over the top wonderful. The salads perfect and the service top notch! Run to Roaring Fork!

Thanks for Making Me a Star

By Paulie59 |

Been to RF before. Loved it. That's why we brought our foodie couple from Houston back to this downtown Austin gem. Outstanding ambiance throughout the restaurant and bar. Yes, it's loud but that's because folks are having a great time. All four entrees were delicious. Red fish was a home run and sent our guests into a feeding frenzy. Thanks to RF for making me and my wife successful hosts to our vising guests. We shall return.

A bite to eat & a few cocktails before a show

By teresamaria77 |

We popped in the Roaring Fork to sit at the bar for a quick visit as we were going to the Paramount next door to see a show. We caught their happy hour so it was really cheap! We split a burger and fries as we had heard the burger was large! It was perfect to share. Grabbed a couple of cocktails too and the bill was only around $34 so a great deal. The place was packed so if you’re going with friends I would recommend you make a reservation. All the food looks good there people at the bar all ordered different dishes everyone was pleased. The staff were busy but attentive. The place was buzzing great fun. The bar area was friendly everyone chatting to each other which was nice. Drinks were great. Would go back there again you can’t beat the happy hour. Good menu lots to choose from. This was a Saturday night so it might not as busy during the week? 🤔

Mentioned to our waiter that we were celebrating our anniversary and he offered us a free dessert. Waiter was very good. Food was excellent.

Pre-Christmas Family Dinner

By Jonathan R |

We were staying across the street at the Element Hotel and came across the street for dinner. We're a handful! My wife and I, our kids and spouses and two rambunctious toddler grandkids! Marc was our waiter and handled it all fantastically. Had a fantastic dinner too. We'll be back.
