I've been dreaming of a Rocky's burger since we moved in 2001

By eandd Z |

My husband and I used to live across the street from Rocky's about 15 years ago and we loved it then. We were so excited to come back during a visit from the east coast and find that it is just as delicious. It's the kind of meal where you can't even talk to each other because you just want to focus on that burger and making it last as long as possible. It was comforting to see the same guy behind the bar that was there 15 years ago. Such a great spot. Go for the 1/2 pounder.

Great burger but the place is even better

By Leonardo T |

NO KIDS ALLOWED. Since we have kids, I went with my wife for take-out. We had 2 1/3s and 2 1/2s. The food excellent. The burger has a great taste and the fries are "the" fries to go with it. Seasoned perfectly. However, the gem of this is the place. Great place to watch a game and have a good bite. They only serve beer and wine and they only take cash (there are about two 2 atms walking distance). No servers but who cares.

Yummy burgers!!

By Valarie V |

Heard this place had great burgers...they did not disappoint!! Not sure how the cook managed to make a flat iron burger patty taste like it came off of a grill, but they did! Super yummy and cool little bar scene. I'd go back :)

Small but good

By stephanhs |

We decided to go out for a burger but in a casual setting, we ended up finding this pub/bar on TripAdvisor. When we arrived it was already very busy and parking was a bit of an issue, we did get seated outside almost instantly. The menu is pretty small just a burger or cheeseburger in 2 different sizes. We both did the cheeseburger and i must say we was not disappointed, the burger was pretty good and was well worth the trip. The wait on the burger was a bit longer then in most other places we ate at but it was def worth the wait. Overall very nice

Nice neighborhood bar with subpar burgers and fries

By MarkT |

Not sure what all the hype is over these burgers. I travel a lot for work and always try to find the best burger in town. Someone suggested this place and promised me that I wouldn't be disappointed. They lied. I would have thought that a place that only serves burgers and fries would be better.

Great Burgers

By Harvey K |

Very reasonable prices for a great burger and fries. We carried out since it was walking distance to the B&B we were staying at, but the place was packed and jammed on a Thursday night, so it must be a local favorite.

burger

By tom s |

Best burger is the world!!! I go almost every week. No frills just burgers and beers. Get there early.

doggone good burgers....

By johnandlinda19178 |

A small, neighborhood place that serves doggone good burgers... A burger, beer, and fries -- well worth a trip to Rocky's....

Beer and burgers always will.

By Nikki S |

Bartenders were awesome. Food was awesome. Vibe was good. This native New Yorker will definitely be back next year.

Cheeburger, Cheeburger!!

By LCEguy |

Burgers, cheeseburgers, fries, and good beer on tap. NOTHING else on menu. Very small, always packed. When you want a regular burger and fries, this is it, no doubt about it.

Looks like a dump BUT

By VP7 |

Wow. I never would have stopped at this place, had it not been for my friend who lives in San Diego and asked us to go to Rocky's for lunch. He promised they had outstanding burgers, and he did not lie. They were delicious. The bar itself is old and kind of ugly on the inside, but the food was awesome. I would definitely go back.

Absolute shocker. Save your time & go to Hodad’s burger chain.

By Dean W |

The staff are fundamentally some of the rudest serviceman I have come across. Ask for ID - show them international ID and we’re blatantly muttering something along the lines of we need a passport. Unsure of which foreigner casually carries a passport around to grab a burger. Happy to spend my money elsewhere at your peril. Hodad’s and too many others have kick ass burgers, vibes and accomodating hospitality.

Disappointed

By Lindsey B |

I read a few of the reviews on here and I figured that we would give it a try while we were in San Diego. The pub was on our way to our hotel from the airport and it was a little after lunch time on a Saturday (1:30 pm). The place was packed with nowhere to sit, and no way to tell who should get the first seat that opens up. It was also difficult to get the bartenders attention to order. Once we did order it was about 20 or so minutes until we got the food. We both just got a cheeseburger, and we were not impressed. I've had amazing burgers, and after all the talk on here, we were rather disappointed.

"A communal burger joint"

By James H |

We walked in and it was a smallish neighborhood joint. The kind of place i feel very comfortable in. Nothing elaborate, a small chalkboard menu on the wall advertising burgers and fries, and a bar with a good beer selection among other options. There was no place to sit when we walked in but our tour guide said the tables are communal and when someone gets up you sit down. We got to meet some very interesting people that way. And by the way, the burgers are second to none.

Dismal hospitality

By Passenger57829583378 |

To all foreigners, the hospitality of this place towards internationals is shocking. They will not batter an eyelid at your identification card let alone acknowledge your presence. They expect you to carry your life document (passport) just for a burger not even a beer. It’s a pity due to the fact that I’ve heard good things about this place. My experience left a very bad taste in my mouth. Hodads is a good alternative

Best burger ever!!

By Jennifer C |

The burger was great, the beer was great, but the service made us feel unwelcome. We got the feeling that they liked their regulars and new comers were a little annoying to them. Still worth going to eat this perfectly cooked juicy cheese burger though. Don't go if you don't like burgers, because that is all they have.

A fantastic cheese burger

By CharlestonTim |

Stopped in for dinner and enjoyed the best burger in recent memory. Burgers and fries are the only thing on the menu and they do a fantastic job! They also have a very nice beer selection and the games are on the TVs.

Love to visit with Joe and the gang

By lesyoung2012 |

My wife and I love to go to Rocky's on some Saturday afternoons to see and talk to Joe the bartender and the usual suspects who dot the bar stools . Best burger in town by far and the camaraderie and beer are excellant. If was not for Joe I would not come

Of the richter scizzzzalee

By Nick F |

Dummy fire! Great burgers and awesome customer service. One of if not the best burger in SD. I can’t wait to go back. Thinking about it has my tummy rumbling in hunger

Great Burger w Tremendous Service

By R-VanPeursem |

Enjoyed a fantastic burger here, and loved the way they took care of us. You can see why this place is LOADED with people having a great time! Turns out to be a historic and award-winning pub! The fries, served in a nice, large basket, were also excellent!

Skip it and head to Hodad's in OB!

By Larryrutkowski |

As locals, we love to try new places in PB, OB and MB! Tonite, Rocky's reopened after Covd-19. Rocky's has always been a cramped & dark hole-in-the-wall! It is limited to Beer and 2 types of Burgers - nothing else. Mike and the staff have never been warm nor friendly to their customers - a bit arrogant about their burgers and beers. Since it was convient to our neighborhood, we would go at less crowed times to watch a game with friends for a burger and beer. Sometimes, we would stop in after walkinng our Sevice Puppy (registered/licensed and >6 months of training). Given the small area, we wanted to see how they would handle the new 6 ft requirements and grab a burger. But both the Bouncer and Mike said - "do not bring your service dog in here - it is not welcome". Well, this was our last visit. We would rather drive to Hodad's in OB or InNOut in PB for a BETTER BURGER; Friendler Staff and that welcomes locals!

The Best Burger and fries

By TaiValadares |

Rockys has the best burger I've ever eaten. People who work there are great. The place doesn’t have many menu options but they have the best burger and fries in San Diego. Bring cash, no credit cards are accepted. You can watch football drinking delicious IPA beer. Thanks for my friends Irene and Chuck to show me Rockys Crown Pub. The place is amazing!

Yea, it's real good

By RusstyCowboy |

Pretty clean. Pretty friendly. Considering how "cool" the place is, they're actually very nice. Good people watching. The burgers and fries were spot on. I only regret not ordering the half-pounder.

Simple but very good

By QuinnieQuinQuin |

I have to admit that I like the fact that the menu isn't extensive at all. They serve burgers, beers, and wines. All cash only though, so be prepared. It is busy on the weekends, very hard to get a seat. The burgers are delicious and cooked to perfection.

Americas finest burger in Americas finest city!

By Paul A |

OK so this really is the best burger in the planet! You need to wait for it and hang with the gang while it is created. 1/2 pounder with cheese grilled onions and fries washed down with a few Sculpins! Whoa tell Joe I sent you....nothing like it !

Best burger in town

By pbearfox |

This is by far a simple no fuss place to visit that offers the best burger in town. Highly recommend you check this place out.

Great burger and beer

By Henry W |

If you in San Diego and hanging near Pacific Beach you have to stop by rockys for lunch. Burger fries and a beer. Bit of a local hang out. Not much room so be prepared to share a table.

perfect spot to watch NCAA's

By Longfisher |

feel bad sharing this place, but it's awesome. Just what a quality pub should be. Local crowd, amazing burger, cold beer.

Great spot - Great burgers

By SmacMinden |

We stayed at Paradise Point while visiting and made the trek over to this great spot in PB. I forgot how good the burgers and fries are since it had been about 3 years from the last time we were in. The beer is great and the people watching even better. If you are in PB go to ROCKYS!

Fun neighborhood joint with juicy perfectly medium burgers!

By ConradSeattle |

Terrific cheeseburgers in an authentic genuine local joint! Cash only, beer and wine only, but hey - what a fun atmosphere. Our server was very efficient, and we had a great time.

Perfect local bar serving perfect burgers

By ChadH |

The attached picture of the menu says it all: burgers with or without cheese and with or without fries is the entire menu (and cash only). You can expect a great local atmosphere, with sports on the TVs (no sound). Expect it to be very crowded at lunchtime and dinnertime. While staff will try to help, it's not always possible to find a seat - it's sometimes difficult just to find some table space to borrow to set down your beer. I live in Pacific Beach and come here about once a month. If your appetite has the flexibility - maybe take advantage of that jet lag - get here by 4:30 pm for dinner (and that might not be soon enough on a Friday) and enjoy a beer before ordering. It usually takes about 25 minutes for your burger to arrive after ordering. If anyone with you is not old enough to drink, they will not be allowed in. Other than that, the crowd is all inclusive, from San Diego State coeds to the old guys you'd expect at any good local pub. If you like pale ale, the pub-branded Rocky's Crown Ale is good. For those with the American (and perhaps German) approach of ordering a lot of beer at once, pitchers are available.

Very bad treatment

By FERNANDO A |

The treatment is very bad, I don't know why they rate the burgers so well, if they serve you cold and poorly seasoned, besides they treat you very badly and with great power, I don't return even if I get paid

Great dive bar

By Ali Van D |

This is a pretty small bar that is all seat yourself so you may need to wait and be ready to dive for chairs when they open up. They have a great lunch special that includes any beer, a cheeseburger, and fries for about $15. Solid, juicy burger that tastes like one you'd get at a good cook out. Not too big of a portion and good service at the bar

A must visit.

By Cory C |

We stopped in here on the recommendation of all of the good reviews here on trip advisor. I was not disappointed. They only do hamburgers and fries, but man are they good! This is a perfect local place if you want to have an excellent hamburger and a frosty beverage. Make sure you bring cash because that is all they take for payment

It's always a reward eating this glorious burger

By David |

I have been eating here for many years. I can show a little restraint by not visiting as often as my friends ;) Rocky's is a no-frills small sports pub on the corner of La Playa Ave and Ingraham St. in Pacific Beach. You will find a decent selection of beers on tap and wines for those imbibing. It is a cash-only establishment, but there is an ATM outside on the sidewalk if you need it. They open at 11 am. The "lunch special" runs M-F from 11-2. You can sample San Diego's best burger along with fries and a drink at this time. With the lunch special, you get a 1/3 lb burger with or without cheese, a pint or a soda, and basket of fries and pickles for around $15. You can also order ala carte if you don't want the special or find yourself there at other hours, and the kitchen is open until late at night. The menu consists of a 1/3 or 1/2 lb burger, with or without cheese, and french fries. If you get it as is it comes with red onion, tomato, and lettuce. You will be given ketchup and mustard along with a bowl of banana peppers. They like to keep it simple. The clientele is a mix of colorful neighborhood locals, lunching professionals, and even some tourists who somehow find their way. Expect to wait about 20 minutes for your food to be prepared; this gives you plenty of time to try and find a seat at the bar or at one of the tables, which are in limited quantity and can be shared, so make friends. No kids are allowed, so leave them at home, actually nobody under 21. You can call and request a take-out order. If you are visiting from another country, you will want to have your passport on you to verify your identity. Enjoy SD's best hamburger, and don't tell too many people about it.

SIMPLY THE BEST

By VLHessel |

I am a regular at Rocky's. I live about 15 miles away but when I want a burger it's always Rocky's. I bring out of town guests here as well and they are all now fans and look forward to having Rocky's on every visit. You can't find a better tasting burger in San Diego, hands down!

FYI, It's NOT a restaurant

By JordanSanAntonio_TX |

It's worth bearing in mind that Rocky's is a bar, simple as that, and not a restaurant by any stretch of the word. They have no menu. The fact that they make a burger is known only via word-of-mouth, websites such as this one, or should you notice the packages of hamburger buns on the shelf in the "back". It is no doubt, a much better burger than anyone has a right to expect at a bar that serves no other food, but generally speaking it is fairly ordinary. The burger is basically just your typical backyard-style fare, though cooked nicely and prepared pleasantly enough. It's tasty but unremarkable. Unless you enjoy eating in a cramped bar in a run-down building with no view in a seedy-ish neighborhood, or are in there for some other reason, it probably shouldn't be considered as a destination unto itself.

Burgers and beer. Period.

By Jeff K |

OK, so they have fries too.... We enjoyed our visit to this neighborhood pub in the Pacific Beach area. Perhaps not the best burger I've ever had, but one of the top 5 "bar food" burgers I can think of. Enjoyed the local atmosphere, found nothing to complain about in the service, as did some other reviews. Would return next time in San Diego without hesitation.

Yes a great burger, but....

By Auddy |

Yes they do a decent burger (I prefer others such as Water Front in Little Italy) however, the draw back is the limited seating, rude bar tenders and cash only. In today's world not accepting credit/debit cards is such a pain. I do like the fact that the menu is very simple... Oh the fries are very good!

Great Burgers and Beer

By Thomas L |

I love Rocky's. It's small, but I can usually find a seat or a place to stand. The small size makes it more intimate and a place to make new friends. Every visitor to Pacific Beach should stop by for a beer and their great burgers!

Still haven't found a better Burger Joint...

By Roma753 |

What can i say...best Burger Place over and over...is not enough. There is more at Rocky's, The atmosphere is very inviting...it's a local spot, you need to know it's there and that it's sooo good. But once you discover it, you find a gem. Once, I took my friend from Canada and they were amazed how good it was...I couldn't understand...isn't it just a burger??? NO...now I live in Canada, and yes, I miss Rocky's! Can't find anything even close here! The only BIG downturn, is that they don't allow under age customers....stupid laws

The BEST Burger in San Diego

By ChulaRH |

Don't bring anyone under the age of 21 here because it is a local bar and the only food they serve is burgers and fries. They don't need to serve any other food because this is BY FAR, the best burger in San Diego. Why would you need to order anything different than the best. Don't expect fancy service (although the bartenders are usually friendly), or a great table (most of the time it's belly-up-to-the bar or wherever else you can squeeze in). And don't be put off by the smokers standing around outside...at least they're not inside!!! But if you want a great burger that you will CRAVE because nothing else comes close, then Rocky's is your place.

Best Burger in San Diego

By Zachary A |

This is by far the best burger in San Diego. You usually have to wait to find seating but usually no more than 10 minutes. The bartenders are great as well as the food.

Best burgers in San Diego

By Tom T |

I used to live across Ingrahan Street from Rocky's and that is how I stumbled upon it. I do not live on Ingraham any more but I still go back to Rocky's for the burgers. It has a well known reputation for its burgers in San Diego and has annually been at least in the top 3 of the best burgers in San Diego by the local press and voting by San Diegans.

BURGERS and fries ... nothing is better!

By cruisingrightalong |

We were going somewhere else famous for burgers and the locals kept saying .... go to Rocky's Crown Pub! So we did! and glad we did. Superb cheeseburger! This along with a beverage was yummy. I actually took the "salad" type stuff off to eat the burger by itself to get the best flavor and had my "salad" on the side! Go during "off time" such as 2 p.m. if you don't want a line and wait. Not many tables....we did at the bar which I like!

Pub Grub, No More, No Less

By David E |

Read the reviews about the great burgers at this local bar and thought they'd be better than Five Guys, In-n-out, etc. Expected a lot more given the write ups but the burgers are just all right, good and greasy, but very disappointed they won't make a burger rare, a real bummer in my view. Fries are frozen--fast food joints do better. Don't expect anything beyond a burger, fries and beer. If that's what you want, go for it but you can do better.

The Best, Simply the Best

By phantom1112 |

Simply put - these are the best burgers I ever had in my life - and I had many. I like my burger for the meat, not for the tons of stuff that is put inside of it to cover up the taste of an average patty (talking to you Hodad's). And in terms of meat, I don't think I ever had anything even close to something as good as what's in a Rocky's burger. Every time I come back, no matter how high my expectations are, this place somehow manages to exceed them. I guess the human brain is just not capable of storing the taste of something so incredible. Come in, have a burger and a cold beer, and you will be happy. But be warned, once you eat at Rocky's several times, your expectations will change and every other burger will taste bland to you.

HAMBURGERS

By pattiedru@gmail.com |

So delicious! Had to wait for a looong time for a table in this tiny pub, but the hamburgers were worth the wait.

Best burger in SD...hands down

By BocaRojaWineTours |

I LOVE Rocky's because in this cluttered, information overload era that we live in, Rocky's embraces and celebrates simplicity and excellence. You can get a big burger or a small burger, with or without cheese. It's brilliant! Super thick cut onions and tomato give it a great crunch, the bun holds it all together without getting soaked and falling apart. One off item menu - they serve it with Swiss and grilled onions if you ask. They have a great beer selection and they only take cash. This is dive bar dining in its finest form.

Great Burgers and Brews

By black70bird |

You get a hamburger or cheeseburger with fries and good selection of brews. Food choices are limited to the above list but are excellent.

GR8 local pub

By Sarah B |

I have been going to Rocky's for decades. The staff are extremely friendly and the burgers are awesome! I remember the 1st time I went and asked to see a menu. Silly me, like something out of an SNL sketch. My only wish is that they would have two sizes of fries as an order of fries is rather large for one person. This is a local place and reflects that vibe. I am extremely glad to see they survived the pandemic.

Great Burgers

By akginaz |

We ride our bikes from the Pacific Beach by way of the bay to Rocky's for lunch. Great burgers & fries! Grab the special with a beer, can't beat the price. Only complaint, sometimes hard to find a seat!!

Great Experience!

By B B |

We are locals and today was one of those perfect San Diego days where we decided we wanted to get out and enjoy a good meal. Many restaurants popped into our mind and when I suddenly mentioned "Rocky's", my husband agreed! The weather was great and we knew it would be crowded at 1:30pm on a Saturday. The place was packed. However, it didn't take long for us to get a place. There are only a few tables but the people in this place are friendly and don't mind sharing tables. It does take about 20 minutes from the time you order because they cook their burgers slow so the meat will be juicy. It's a great value, easy menu, good place to people watch. It reminds me of the TV show "Cheers". Nobody knew my name but the owners are so friendly that you feel welcome. The atmosphere is upbeat, friendly and fun.

Wonderfully Limited!

By MN_Traveler55372 |

The menu is so simple it will take you less than 15-seconds to make a decision. Hamburger or Cheeseburger, 1/3 or 1/2 pound. Fries. When it comes to beer... that may take a bit longer. Everything is fresh. Not a lot of salt. Service is about right for a corner hamburger joint. Loved it!

Best Burger

By bailyes |

The best burger in PB. We tried 50/50 Slater and Hodads. Rocky beats them hands down a small pub always busy. The bartenders are great.

ummm - fail

By Luvvaca |

Spent long day at the beach and looked forward to a hamburger there. Difficulty finding parking - as always in this area - finally got in and sat down at the table to be told that there was a list - although there was no one in sight taking names and appeared to be no one waiting. So the not so friendly waitress said that we could stay since no one was waiting. OK. Then, she asked for ID for my 18 year old son. I said, we are just eating, no one will be ordering anything to drink. She said we had to leave because you have to be 21 to eat there. So - big fail. Would have been a better review if they could have been friendly. No idea about the food, but the wait staff was not friendly.

Best burger, San Diego

By Sandiegotx |

Neighborhood bar, comfortable friendly, and the best burger,I'd say in California! Seriously this burger is like the best backyard grilled burger you'll ever have. As soon as you finish the burger? The only thing on your mind is should I get one to go? Every time I've been, it's been busy. You order at the bar and start looking for someplace to sit and miraculously you find a place and your food appears in front of you shortly after you sit every time. Juicy, meat to bun ratio perfect flavorful and simple, large small cheese no cheese perfect.

Best hamburgers!

By JJAZ9 |

Ricky's was recommended to us by a local resident as the best place for a burger and beer. It is a small neighborhood place, serving only burgers and fries. Beer is cold, people were friendly and the burgers were great! Definitely recommend this spot!

INTERNATIONAL TRAVELLERS BEWARE

By The Wilko's |

My partner felt like a decent burger and so we did a quick search and decided on Rockys. Made the drive out there, finally found a park and went to the bar to order. We were asked for ID, which was fine even though we're both well into our 30's and we're not ordering alcohol, and when we produced our drivers licenses we were then told that we needed to produce our passports! We aren't in the habit of taking our passports with us on day trips for fear of losing them but apparently if you want a burger at Rockys, you need a passport to do so. We've spent just under 10 weeks travelling through the US, 3 weeks in California, dining out every night and this is the first time our ID wasn't accepted and a passport demanded. We were told we couldn't be served, so walked out their door, turned right into the pub next door and had burgers there. Common sense does not exist at Rockys it seems!

Awesome

By rafawais |

Awesome place to eat a hamburguer and drink a beer. Nice price and excellent localization. Pay attention that they just accept cash. More than recommended, you have to go.

Hole in the Wall

By kimmcgrath58 |

I love finding a little Hole in the Wall. Only burgers and only cash. The burgers were delicious. Small and quaint, you don't want to come if you don't like sharing a table.

Best hamburgers in San Diego

By johnandlinda19178 |

It's just a neighborhood bar and grill....serves only burgers, fries, soft drinks and beer...BUT, it's got the best burgers in town. Been going there for years; the place used to have pool tables, but with it's reputation growing for good grub, it got rid of the pool tables, and replaced them with tables for folks to eat on.

Best Burger Ever Hands Down!!!

By Angel C |

This is not only the best burger in San Diego, it's the best burger... period. Hodads and Slaters 50/50 are the next best thing. And in that order.

Cash Only

By LAFUN |

Their lunch special is what draws everyone in, $13 for a burger, fries, and a beer. It’s a small bar, cash only, with the only difference between their burgers are cheese and how big your meat patty is, so that makes the indecisive person like me happy (whoops). I’ve heard “best burger in SD” about it for so long, and yes, it is good, but best of all time? Dear lord, that’s a big saying. Definitely worth going to. The bouncer makes people move according to how large your party is. So if you’re two people, he’ll make you move for a larger group if one comes in. What to order: Cheese burger, and fries (to share).

Great Burgers in town

By Jessica G |

The best burgers in town hands down! You don't really get too much of a choice of what kind of burger but that is fine with me. It's a bar, so no under age kids which is great! Sometimes not having kids running around is really nice! This is my boyfriends spot to go with his boys. He says I'm not allowed to come here. But he finally brought me and now I'm hooked!!!

Always voted best burger in San Diego

By David D |

I have to say Rocky’s is always great for a greasy yummy burger. It’s always full of locals but there is never a good time to go unless lunch with more than 2. The place is so small! Plus they do not take credit cards. So stop at your banks ATM the one outside charges a higher than normal fee to withdraw money. Would be happy to give 5 stars if the last two noted issues could be resolved. You need to try their burger at least once. No fancy options but get the large you won’t be disappointed.

Great Hamburgers

By clagunash |

This is a very cozy place, the interior design is very nice. It is a small wooden shack. The furniture is fine, tall tables and bars with stools. It is a nice place to watch football and have some drinks as well. The hamburgers are delicious, the meat is tender and juicy, and the fries are good too.

The juiciest, tastiest burgers I've had anywhere in the World...

By garylomas |

They have been famous for decades and desearvably so. They only cook burgers and fries 3rd of a pound and half pound These are real quality JUICY burgers full of flavour... Be prepared to wait 30 to 40 minutes as they are slow cooked. I've been after the recipe for years and finally found it on U Tube... They searve alcohol, and the burgers are to die for, So go now, catch a flight if necessary, as you will be munching there the entire week of your stay...

Small, but mighty

By SnowBeans |

Based on the recommendations of others, we tried Rocky's Crown Pub and were not disappointed. Make no mistake, "small, but mighty" makes no reference to the portions - it is about the venue. Rocky's is a small bar with character, pleasant staff and fantastic burgers. They are the epitome of do a few things well and Rocky's does burgers well, very well. Everything ordered, beer, burgers and fries were excellent and exceeded expectations. I highly recommend Rocky's Crown Pub for burgers (and beer). Make note Rocky's is cash ONLY.

Never pass up this burger.......

By steve w |

We travel to San Diego every year since 2007 and yes we play golf, hit PB for a few cold ones, enjoy some wonderful southwestern/mexican food, play with our dog on both dog beaches and help out at Wounded Warriors Field Games at Camp Penndelton all of which usually happens BUT we never miss a trip [or two] to Rocky's for the BEST BURGER in San Diego. Not an overpriced tourist burger and bu or an In and Out chain burger...this is the real deal. Add in some fries and cold brew, local crowd, sports on tv and you have a place not to be missed. Do you want chicken, great salads, philly cheese steak then ROCKY's isn't your place. They do burgers, fries and cold beer THATS IT ! And none better,. Of course they do have a jar of self serve hot peppers on each table..try one if you dare. No Kids....but that makes it simpler for the rest of the adults...................

Back again and took a friend for his first Rocky burger

By Lucky |

It has been a minute since my last burger here and took a newbie for his first. The burger was a 10 and so were the hot crispy fresh fries. Just like a burger u would grill in ur back yard! The beef flavor memorable! Will be back next week with another first timer!

Best burger ever

By Aldo89 |

A little choice but an authentic an inimitable taste for their burgers. So far the best hamburger I have ever eaten in my life. I will definitely come back again!

Great Burgers

By JON D |

A total neighborhood place. Great burgers. It's No wonder it's the overall peoples choice burger in San Diego

Wow!! Great burger at small local bar.

Service was personable and great from older grey haired guy behind the bar. Simple menu--hamburgers or cheeseburgers--1/3 or 1/2 lb. And fries. Five things that they do right. Cash--no credit cards. Was there during world series--just your basic friendly corner bar that has been doing it right for 32 years. Felt at home immediately. Highly recommend this trip to Mission bat area.

Best Burgers in San Diego

By Dino Sipsas |

Rocky's is a San Diego institution that has served many over the years. When we lived there and wanted burgers & fries, this was the place. It's the only thing on the menu so don't expect much more and its cash only. Our good friends who grew up in the area took us there as it is their favorite as well. We go back every year to see our friends and make sure that we eat multiple times at Rocky's. Great place to watch the game as well.

Great burgers, atmosphere!

By Marilyn H |

You may have to wait for a table but it's worth it...great burgers and brew! They only serve a limited number of menu items, burger !, burger 2, and fries, but they're good.

Excellent burger & beer

By jaxxs78 |

Excellent beer and burger joint. Worth a visit if you're heading over to SeaWorld or that area. friendly local spot for sure.

Chill Tavern With Great Burgers

By Richard B |

Third time here while visiting from Seattle. Always meet nice people and enjoy cold beer, great, inexpensive burgers and fries. Can get in and out for less than $20 and walk out stuffed. They also have an excellent selection of local IPAs. Not very large (less than 1,000 square feet) so it fills up quickly at lunch and in the evenings.

Best Burgers, coming from a local

By Emily C |

Great burgers! Seriously, best ever! Fresh, juicy, AWESOME! Beware - it's 21 and up and cash only, and you often have to wait for a seat, but it's worth it. Oh, and the telephone doesn't usually work so you can't call in to-go orders. I go here at least 1x/month.

Best burger in SD

By Resort281592 |

This is a hidden gem. If you are not a local, you may never walk in to have the best burger in town. This may be a rumor, but I hear they make their own bread. Great beer selection. Cash only

Extremely bad service

By Luis P |

Today I went over to this establishment because my girlfriend found it online and we wanted to try it out because it really looks like a cool place to eat and drink, well unfortunately we were not able to enjoy. We were having a little bit of trouble finding parking so we parked behind the establishment where it said “customer parking only” but it did not say for what bar or restaurant, so we decided to park there and ask inside if it was ok to park there or move. Once we got inside Rocky’s pub the first thing that happened is that a large man (for lack of a better word), I believe he is a waiter there, asked for our ID, something normal because it is a Pub, but when we showed him our Mexican passports he made a weird face and just handed them over back to us and walked away, I found it a little bit rude that he didn’t have good customer service and showed us to a table or maybe ask us if we wanted to sit in the bar if there were no tables available, he didn’t do anything just walked away, so I followed to ask him about the parking situation and in a very rude manner he told me “we don’t have parking here you have to find somewhere else”, since I’m not from the area I asked if he knew where I could park or if he had any suggestions and he replied “I don’t work for the parking department” and started giving me a “lesson” on where I could and could not park, basically saying that I’m ignorant or shouldn’t be there, I don’t if he was having a bad day or something but I don’t think that is the correct way to treat new customers that find establishments like these and want to try it out, I believe that is very bad for business. My one star reflects in the customer service that this person showed, the place still looked like a cool pub that we would like but after that we decided to find somewhere else to enjoy our afternoon. I believe you (Rocky’s pub) should train your employees a little better in customer service because this can even be misunderstood as not wanting to give service just because we our not locals or United States citizens.

Amazing burgers

By Tim R |

Visited here with friends and was amazed by how such as tiny place could be so busy and put out such an amazing burger. Obviously done by limiting menu and excelling at what they do.

great burgers

By maverickberlin |

If you're looking for a place with a long list of fancy trendy burgers, you're at the wrong place. If you believe a great burger is only a true hamburger, you've reached your destination. At Rockys, you may choose from a wide selection of tasty beers, but when it comes to burgers, there's only one way to make them: the right way. As a nod to modern times, they do give you two choices: with or without cheese (please don't ask for different cheese options!), and a 1/2 or 1/3lb patty. Take the 1/2lb.

The very best

By Highlander112 |

I have been coming to SD for more than 22 years...and every year, the firsrt place for lunch is to make thew pilgrimage to Rock'y's....a great place even if she is not there all the time. I found the Bartenders friendly......... If you have to wait, play a game of pool and drink a few cervasas.

Neighborhood pub with a great burger

By Susan P |

The Rocky burger is the BEST! Small neighborhood pub - fun to share one of the few tables with others - does have bar seating. CASH only! Disappointed that the beer selection was very limited (nothing we liked or wanted to try). Had our burger and fries and went elsewhere for a good San Diego beer. Hard to find parking.

A gem of a find

By Lorraine H |

We were told, about this place by the security guard at our hotel. Visitors from London UK we were used to high food prices, but the exchange rate was crippling us. Popped into this bar and the best burgers ever. Cosy joint, not many tables, but sitting at the bar chatting to the locals was great fun. Highly recommended. Great food, great company and very friendly staff. A must go to place in San Diego.

Local Place and worth the wait

By TravelerNaomi |

Rocky's definitely has a dive bar and local feel because that is what it is - a truly local place. I wouldn't change a thing about that. If you want to experience real local San Diego, this is it. The menu is small (1/3 lb or 1/2 lb burger, with or without cheese - you can also get grilled onions, which I recommend). If you are visiting, I recommend doing so at the beginning of your trip - you may be craving it again by the end. The burger is delicious. The fries are ho-hum. My advice - get the 1/2 lb. and skip the fries. Order a pint while you wait - your burger will be ready right around the time you finish it. Not suitable for ages under 21. Seating is sparse, but everyone takes turns giving away seats as they finish their burgers, happily fed. They cook them slow, so expect to wait 15-45 minutes. It is worth the wait. A great burger - the best in San Diego, in my opinion.

fantastic hand made burger

By spackler17 |

rockys is a small place with a fantastic hand made burger. get there early it gets packed and why not. fresh burger, cold beer, sports on tv. we make it an every Tuesday stop and Tuesday doesn't come around fast enough. go go go to rockys you won't be disipointed and thats the bottom line because stone cold said so.

Great burgers....worth the wait!

By travelisf0rme |

If you aren't looking carefully for Rocky's, you'll miss it---it is a small bar on the corner of Ingraham and La Playa. We came with friends and LOVED the burgers....super juicy and flavorful---worth the wait! The bartender was friendly and handled the large crowd well. If you are in the area, check out Rocky's---great burgers at a very reasonable price. Just remember, no kids allowed and CASH only!

Really the best burgers!

By Karen H |

It is true they have great burgers! It is a bar, so no underage travellers. They have a good selection of beers. We enjoyed it as a group for dinner. We even ordered burgers to go a few nights later.

Rocky's Burgers are the BOMB!

By Linda H |

Rode our bikes to Rocky's, a restaurant that was off my grid, and had an amazing hamburger. I am usually a slow eater, cutting my hamburger in half, removing the bun, putting my fork down after each bite, patting my mouth with a napkin, etc. That was NOT how I ate my Rocky's burger. I picked that big boy up and basically inhaled it. It was wonderful. the place is a certifiable dive bar but who cares? You are going for the burgers not the ambiance but frankly the ambiance totally works. Zero dress code. just go in order a burger, fries and a brew, and maybe another round of everything and enjoy. TVs at the bar. cash only

Come to this hole in the wall for a very good burger!

By Michael Turner |

I've been coming to this hole-in-the-wall for nearly twenty years and I make sure to stop by anytime I find myself back in the San Diego area. The burger menu couldn't be simpler: cheese, or no cheese. Pick a size. This joint tends to be filled with locals, but you will always find a visiting burger aficionado or two happily munching away at the bar or in a corner. Dine here with confidence that you will have a tasty burger that isn't so expensive that you'll have to pay them on Tuesday for your hamburger today!

The Burgers, The Place...These Guys are FANTASTIC!!!!!

By saraheileen76 |

We stopped here because of Trip Advisor. My husband and I were meeting his daughter and bf for dinner, but I wanted to find a place to watch some PAC-12 football prior. Well, we stopped for some football in what initially felt like a 'bar' - but this place is SO much more!!! Bring your cash, as no cards are accepted except by the ATM around the back. They are super friendly and remember your name (cheers!). This place can get really busy but they'll get your order exactly right and he burgers are deLIcious!!! EAT HERE!!!

Amazing Burgers!

By traveller3321 |

I was on vacation in San Diego and had a craving for burgers. Rockys Crown Pub hit the spot! I was there on a weeknight, so there was no wait. I found a table right away and the food was out quickly. The burgers were absolutely amazing and the fries were good as well. I will definitely go back here again the next time I'm in town.

A great place for a burger and a beer in Pacific Beach

By Mickey |

This small bar produces a very good basic burger and fries and that's it for the food here. An order of fries is more than enough for two people. A good selection of beers in this bar with limited seating. This place is cash only which is ok just a little inconvenient. All in all a very good bar for a beer and a burger in Pacific Beach.

Great Burgers + Cold Beer = Recipe for Success!

By ATLBob |

Make no mistake: this is NOT a typical 'restaurant' in any sense of the word. If you're looking for some ambiance that isn't "1950's Local Bar", you're in the wrong place. This joint is a long-standing Pacific Beach neighborhood bar that happens to serve unbelievable burgers. A few seats around the bar, a couple of small tables, and a small 'counter' attached to the walls with some chairs is as fancy as it gets; however, the beefy delights that are served are a cut above, served with fresh lettuce/tomato/onion and with or without cheese...and crispy fries. Golden, crispy potato goodness and juicy ground beef washed down with a pint or two of ice cold beer: what else do you need? I love In 'N Out Burger as much as anyone, but Rocky's takes a back seat to no one with it's burgers. Oh yeah...bring cash--Rocky's doesn't like plastic.

Cool Dive Bar and Restaurant

By Bill S |

Awesome food, good drinks and a fun place to hang out. The wait staff and bartenders were capable, efficient and friendly. You'll like it!

Great Burgers

By Craig and Lynn |

While a bit noisy, the place was great. Go for the 1/2 pound burger, as the 1/3 pound one left me wanting more.

Best Burger Joint in San Diego

By Jason N |

Stop looking around, this is THE best burger joint in San Diego. I have tried them all, and always come back to Rocky's. Bring cash, prepare to have a bit of a wait for your meal as its a bit tiny here. Definitely ALWAYS worth the wait. Good cold beers and super simple menu.

fabulous burger

By Susan T |

The burgers at Rockys are fabulous and give Hodad's a run for their money. If you want a delicious burger, fries, and a beer with a bar atmosphere, Rockys is your place. If you want a delicious burger, frings (fries and onion rings), and a milkshake, Hodad's is your place. Can't go wrong at either place.

Great burger bar!

By kay k |

Cozy bar with warm wood interior, friendly service. All they serve is drinks, burgers and fries so they do it well. The 1/3 pound burgers were tasty, thick and juicy on soft sesame buns. A basket of fries were crisp and hot and big enough to share. Good beer selection. Wr

We never miss a visit to Rocky's

By ItalophileTrav |

Each time we visit San Diego, we make time for lunch at Rocky's. It doesn't matter what day of the week- get there early or you won't have a seat during lunchtime. We like to sit at the bar. We love the burgers and fries and find the menu to be our favorite part of the "vibe." This is a neighborhood bar and there are regulars mixed with those of us (regular tourists). Everyone can have a great lunch with lots of beers to choose from. No frills. Just eat!

Best Dive Bar Burger Ever

By TravelTime619 |

Come slumming here and get a burger. The bartenders don't bite...much.

SOOOOOOOOOOO Good!

By HappyRetired1 |

You can have a burger or cheeseburger period. Either a 1/4 or 1/3 pounder. The best burger around. Add a side to fries. If you want beer you have lots of choices. Service is fast and efficient. Prices are excellent. This tends to be more a locals hangout than a tourist spot which makes it really good. It's cash only.

Cheeseburger & Fries!!

By Travelling Barber |

After hearing family & friends rave about Rocky's having the best burger in all of San Diego I was eager to see if it lived up to its reputation??!! I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the ridiculously huge 1/2 pound cheeseburger & fries! Well........ I have to agree.......... Hands down best burger in San Diego! And that is no small challenge as there are burger joints everywhere! It was a busy place with a very limited/ basic menu, but it definitely works! I will be back! Oh & did I mention it's super cheap?!

Unpretentious, nice burgers

By KoenBressers |

Just what you expect; a nice pub with great burgers. Nothing more, nothing less. Good portions and inexpensive.

Awful and disrespectful service

By PriscilaD |

I’ve been to Rockys a few times, I know it’s always crowded and I don’t mind. I went there today, my boyfriend and I were having a few beers while waiting to get a table and eat our burger. When I finally got a table a server put some food on my table and ask “do you mind? Their food is here” - I was speechless so I left the table, when I found him again I told him I was waiting for that table and I was sitting, why did he kick me out? Is there a vip list at Rockys now for specific clients? He didn’t apologize and just said they had food and I didn’t which is ridiculous because I was waiting for my food and my table. Anyway, He had no right to kick me off that table, that was very rude and I felt humiliated. I ended up leaving and not eating which is too bad for me because I really wanted that burger, but I rather eat anywhere else than put up with disrespect. That guy needs to learn to respect people, no one deserves that kind of treatment or service, awful experience!

The best Burger!! 🍔🍟

By Daniel B |

Hands down the best Burger!! and bonus with a sesame bun with crispy red onion and crispy, best tomatoes , green leaf lettuce, and hot fries.

Still the best burger in San Diego

By 367Advisor |

Rocky's sticks to what it known and that's burgers. Since Rocky's Crown Pub opened in 1977 it's frequently on the Best Burger in San Diego list. If you like bar burgers, you'll like Rocky's. Rocky's is a small place and if you go at a busy time, you may enjoy your burger standing up (and they are still just as good). You pretty much have 2 choices burger or cheese burger, but you can decide in a 1/3 or 1/2 pound. The fries are very good and the beer is always cold. And bring cash! Rocky' is cash only!

Best burger in San Diego

By I8940MHpauls |

Rocky's burgers deserve their loyal following. On my last visit, I arrived at 11:45 am on a Tuesday and had to wait a few minutes for a seat. I never mind the wait as I can use the time to drink a cold pint and look forward to one of those big juicy burgers. The fries are good but I consider them a waste if stomach capacity and generally opt for the half pond burger over the one third pounder. There isn't much else on the menu. It's refreshing to see a business with people who know what they do well and don't waste time doing anything else.

Great local joint

By bruceedel |

Great small bar....with tiny kitchen...burgers/fries only...awesome all fresh...nice ambiance ...been there 45 years

A contender for best burgers in San Diego

By KatrinaPa |

Since we were traveling with teens, we got take-out burgers from Rocky's (under 21 strictly forbidden from the bar). The menu is very simple--burgers in two sizes, with two choices of cheese, and fries. Our take-out food was wrapped in waxed paper so it stayed warm without getting soggy like it does in styrofoam. The burgers were really delicious. The fries tasted fresh and crisp and there were plenty. Maybe there is a better burger in San Diego, but I don't need to look any further.

Best Burger EVER

By Matthew V |

How is Hodad's ranked #10 in all of San Diego and Rocky's can't crack the top 100!?!?!? Trip Advisor just lost all credibility.

A pub atmosphere if you been to England

By fisherman41 |

The $13.00 combo, beer, burger and fries is a great deal and the burger was cooked to perfection(medium rare).

Heading From AZ to Maine by way of San Diego

By davemY6954FC |

We've been to Rocky's Crown Point Pub a few times. Best burger hands down. We're heading out on a motorcycle ride from AZ to Maine and decided to do a full coast to coast run so we're heading to San Diego first and then turning around and heading east. We'll hit Rocky's for a burger and a beer (or two). Great burger, great fries, ice cold beer that makes the extra 1000+ miles worth it.

I loved this place!!

By Road502197 |

What a great bar/restaurant should be! They have the best burgers and a basket of fries :) Its simple but perfection. The staff are awesome - the doorman (Aaron) greeted us with a smile and explained how things worked and then our bartender (Nick - we sat at the bar) was great! This place is the best to just chill and drink a few beers while waiting on a delicious burger. There's a reason why Rocky's has such great reviews - they've got it right and have for 30+ years! You will tell your friends!!

Great Burger

By MITAAF |

Great place for a burger in Pacific Beach, San Diego. Also a good place to catch televised college or NFL football games.

It's gotten all the awards, but it's just average

By bettyrubble |

Average sounds like a bad word, but it's not. It's just normal. Tasty, in a nice, casual, neighborhood establishment. It's not near me, so I won't be going back.

Great place to eat!

By Bama7565 |

This is a must. I traveled to San Diego with my husband on a business trip. After searching for local restaurants we found this one. It was a really good burger!!

If it were my last meal, I'd choose Rocky's

By Lucia L |

Is there anything better than a good burger? Yes, and it's a Rocky's burger. If you are from San Diego, you are probably a member of one of two camps when it comes to the best burger in San Diego...and while I am a fan of all the options the other place provides, the quality of the burger just doesn't compare to Rocky's. There's only two options, 1/3lb or 1/2lb, and you can add cheese if you'd like. Come in any time of day on any day and you're in for a wait, however if you're bar savy enough you'll find a place to sit soon enough. Enjoy an ice cold beer while the bar tender takes your order. Once it comes out add the condiments you'd like and take a bite. Be prepared for one of the juiciest, melt in your mouth goodness to have ever been placed between two buns you've ever come across. Even if you're stuffed, there will be disappointment when it's gone. I had to wait till I was 21 to get my hands on this burger and I'd say the wait was well worth it. Love Rocky's!

Great JOINT

By ilovecorndogs |

This is a great small local place. Super fun interior, cozy but not grungy. 10-15 beers on tap, menu of 2 things - hamburgers and cheeseburgers. You cant go wrong! Delicious! Wish it was closer to downtown, but its a 15 minute uber

Classic Neighborhood Bar with Great Burgers...

By Booogiemann |

This place makes you feel at home, a neighborhood Bar/Pub where you can just belly up to the bar, watch sports on their multitude of Big Screen TV's, and have a classic fresh home made style burger. People in here always seem to be friendly, the Burgers are really, really good and a good value. Nice beer selection too. Rocky's is quite popular... Packed during a big game ... I highly recommend this place.

Good burgers

By TheKrull |

I had the 1/2 pound burger with fries, a beer and a Coke. The burger was delicious and juicy and the whole meal came out to $20.

I came based on the high reviews

By MOHAMMED ABU HAJAR |

I came based on the high reviews and recommendations but frankly it was average not bad Burger, thick but not taste or spice on the patty and the bread was old, my friend said the beef quality is changed since the period before corona, the pickles was good 🙈.

Good burger and beer

By bdearl41 |

Get the lunch special. Burger and a beer. Awesome dive, cash only. A must in PB. The laid back atmosphere, come as you are is a perfect example of San Diego. Everyone working and eating were super friendly.

Super Burger @ Pacific Beach

By TorpedoKonrad |

I went to Rockys, because a friend told me if i stay ever in San Diego, i must go to Rockys. So i was there and it was totally awesome, i love the style of a pub and the crew was so nice. I dont know which beer i would like to drink so they recommend me some, and give me small tests of beer that makes me the decision easier. Now i come to the Burgers. You can choose between 4 Burgers : 1/3 Cheese or Hamburger or 1/2 Cheese or Hamburger. This is totally enough the Burgers are so good they dont need other Burger Styles. Also the Burgers have a good price. Important is that you cant pay with creditcard, so bring cash and get the best burgers at pacific beach, maybe the best in San Diego.

Best Burgers

By robert r |

With all the best of lists coming out this summer, just thought I would make some noise. Rocky's Crown Pub has the best burgers hands down. Closet sized in space the pub is a beer and burger haven. Don't know what they do to the beef but it is awesome, juicy and flavorful, once you pick it up you hold onto it until gone. The jar of jalepenos on the bar are even good, not too hot. Can't say enough about the place.

Great Dive, Great Food

By Mark G |

Went here on a guys trip since we were staying around the corner. Packed, cash only, lots of beer on tap. They're known for their burgers and fries. It's kind of a dive with kitschy decor, dark lighting which I happen to like. Simple menu with great straight straight up burgers and fries without the pretentiousness of the new "gourmet" burger joints. This more of a home-made, your uncle made it, burgers and fries. I got a cheeseburger, fries, and a couple beer. Awesome. Servers were friendly locals. Go.

Best Hamburger You'll Find So Quit Looking

By LA_Phil_1 |

We were in town for a weekend get-away and found this place in a funny way. We were in a bar and asked the waitress where the best local Hamburger could be found. Instead of hawking the bar she worked at she told us about Rocky's. She's a gem. The bar looks humble outside but inside it's pretty nice as far as neighborhood bars go. There is limited seating so go early if going for lunch or dinner. Order the 1/2 lb. burger, you won't regret it. Thick, juicy, flavorful and nicely priced. Wish they would offer tater tots too because the fries are just so so. Oh well, the Burger is over the top. Tips; BTW, we went at dinner time just ahead of the crowd and got the last table. We sat a few minutes B4 figuring out that ordering at the bar was the thing to do. Our food was brought to the table. An order of fries is way more than enough for two people unless you're huge eaters.

Best Hamburger in San Diego?

By BoilerMakerBob |

While talking with a friend who is a San Diegan, I mentioned the dilemma we had deciding between In-N-Out and Five Guys hamburgers. She asked if we'd like to taste the best hamburger in San Diego! Well, we couldn't pass by that, so Sat noon we met in Pacific Beach at Rocky's Crown Pub. (Pacific Beach is one of the best locations in San Diego (which is saying a lot, since this is a city FILLED with great locations!) - it lies between Mission Bay and the Pacific coast.) Rocky's is a sports bar where you order at the bar, pay cash, and eat hamburger! The menu is on the chalkboard above the bar. Your choices are 1/3 pound or 1/2 pound hamburger, with or without cheese. Oh yea, you can get fries (really good fries made from actual potatoes I think!) Best hamburger in San Diego? Maybe. But one doesn't want to rush into a decision this weighty without further experiments! We'll need to give In-N-Out and Five Guys at least one more chance, then we'll have to come back here . . . this could take a while! ;-) I'd definitely come back here for another burger.

Best Burgers!!!

By SpargoCXVII |

In my humble opinion they have the Best Burgers in San Diego, maybe the whole planet. Small place with a big heart.

Come on you already know this

By Auddy |

If you are here searching for Rocky’s then you already know this is the best burger in town. Slap your mother good! I don’t eat it often as I am sure it can’t be the best thing for you, but wow it’s amazing. Be prepared to wait long for a table and bring cash as they don’t take credit card.

Refused service

By Susan D |

Would have rated 0 but was not available choice. We are four people over age sixty well dressed normal citizens out here from east coast for a wedding of a daughter. Staying on beach at Mission Bay just down the street from Rockys. We had read about how good the burgers were. We are here for a week and waited until Monday night to avoid the crowds at Rockys. Went in and one of us was inadvertently holding a plastic cup from home with a small amount of liquid in it. The bartender, heavier set guy with short dark hair, said “not allowed to bring anything in”. The offender realized then what he was holding and threw cup in nearby trash can immediately. We then started to order a drink and were told”I’m not serving the lot of you”. Basically get out. What the heck! We were dumbfounded and embarrassed! Guess there is a first time for everything but at our age we were incredulous that someone would treat us so rudely! Never written a review before but needed to this time. The arrogant attitude we were treated with is inexcusable and appalling. They have good reviews but seemingly think they are above civil customer service. No one is that good. Avoid this place! I’m serious we are just regular people. Maybe they just want a younger crowd??

BEST BURGERS IN SD!!!

I can truly say these are the best burgers I have tasted in my life. The service is a little slow and usually crowded but its definitely worth it. My girlfriend and I love it!

One of the best hamburger place that I know. Easy, simple, delicious. Get with hungry and thirsty for beer. The magic of a simple menu, just great. 39 years since they are open, wonder why =)

Always crowded for a reason... always good! A cold beer with a burger and fries. ... very simple very good! A special note ... cash only.

Authentic American!

By Joanne E |

My boyfriend picked this restaurant during our 4 night stay and I wasn't too keen, however I was nicely surprised. It was really cool to visit somewhere really authentic and American. The atmosphere was cool with sport on in the background. The menu is tiny and not what I was expecting. The burger was decent though! It was the cheapest meal in our two week trip too, so we were chuffed!

Superb burgers & great ice cold bear on tap

By Jeanette S |

My husband and I came in here for a burger, it was deliciously amazing! Cooked to perfection, juices, packed with flavor, beer so very good! Comes out piping hot. Condiments on each table. Plenty of napkins, you will need them. Supper crowded, but worth the wait! Be patient, you will find a table. The staff is friendly, Courteous, willing to recommend different beers to your liking. Best burger in California! We wish you would come to our town! That just means, we will visit more often! You are only 2 hours away. Thank you for making a great burger, and having a variety of great beers. I highly recommend this establishment! Come hungry! Enjoy, we sure did. Thank you again for a Wonderful dining experience. September 18-2018

Outstanding!!!

By FaithUrie |

Rocky's offers up THE BEST burgers! Burgers and fries are "lick your plate" good!!! I don't know what their secret is but these burgers are out of this world. I've been to PB/San Diego three times and am kicking myself for not going to Rocky's sooner. Won't be back in town for a while but when I do return you better believe Rocky's will be one of my first stops!

Great Experience!

By B B |

The menu is simple and limited, which makes it easy to choose. The burgers are slow cooked and you receive it about 20 minutes after you order, even if the place is not busy. They said it keeps the juices in. There are TV's throughout with sports events. The beer is cold and comes right away. There is a lot of atmosphere and the people are pretty friendly. It has a "neighborhood bar" feeling. You can purchase "Rocky's" logo clothing. People do come from all areas for the experience. Sometimes it's so busy it's hard to get a table (there aren't that many). With all these great reviews, the place will be even more crowded :)

You wont put the burger down!

By Jacques C |

This is probably the most savory burger in san diego. Its a basic menu but they do it right! They are always busy so give yourself at least 45 min to get your burger. That being said the wait is worth it! I usually order the 1/3 lb burger with cheese and grilled onions. This place rocks, just dont expect them to charge your phone lol.

Best burger and fries

I spent a few weeks in SD and since the first night I've experienced te Rocky. Very good burgers, good service, good atmosphere. Every night I didn't know where to eat, rocky was the perfect shelter. Burger sport and beer.

one of the best burgers in San Diego

By gratitude13 |

So last night I went to Slater's 50/50 in Pt. Loma to try their burger...so disappointed, not good at all...I have to say now that I've tried many burger joints in San Diego, Rocky's is one of the best. They've got it right at this place, the meat is excellent and well-seasoned (something Slater's burger was lacking), you can't go wrong here since all they serve are burgers and fries! It's a local favorite...be prepared to wait a few minutes to get a table, the joint is small, but well worth the wait to have one of their fabulous burgers. I will be there again soon. Good job Rocky's!

too crowded- little options

Always super crowded with college kids, sometimes hard to get service. No vegetarian or vegan options..

Darn good burgers - good stuff!

went out to SD on business and my brother who lived there for 4 years said, if you want the best burger in town, check out Rocky's! I did and it did not dissapoint! Any way you want it, with a huge helping of fries. Best part, unlimted cold beers (not free of course). Some words of caution - but you can deal with it....1) cash only and 2) first come first served on seating....if you, your better half or guest have no patience (on the second issue above) don't bother....I had to jump on my seating arrangement!

On your quest to find best burger, make sure you include Rockys

Best burger in town

By PurpleMoonExplorer |

I live about 20 miles away and Ill travel all the way to Rockys just for their burger. Ive done all the fancy burgers in town, Id say that Rockys is the BEST. I can't stand when people say they love In-and-Out, that garbage compared to Rocky's Burger. They have super cold fresh beers, a relaxed environment and a all around good vibe. Only issue I have is trying to find seating as its a very small bar and that they only take cash, but its all worth it to me!

You Better Like Burgers

...since that's all they have. Very little selection on the menu but decent tasting burgers. This place is a neighborhood dive bar that is trying to do one thing very well. They're almost there but if you're into chicken or salads, go elsewhere. Best burger in town? The regulars think so but there are others that are just as good.

Rocky's for fun

A crowded, at times frenetic, friendly hamburger joint. Great burger baskets and beverages. Local favorite.

If you want the quick answer, then here it is: A Rockys cheeseburger is flavor and delicious and worth the wait. A stopover is a invaluable SD experience. Having made those statements, its not the best cheeseburger in SD, IMO. I went back and ordered the 1/2, after ordering the 1/3 on my first visit and wasn't disappointed. I actually ordered another 1/2 cheeseburger to go because it was that delicious and memorable. A dish which creates euphoria in ones tastes buds and makes a customer want to return is an exceptional dish. It was cooked perfectly, juicy, tender, crunchy, and minimal amounts of grease. An all around superior backyard burger. I am a huge burger connoisseur and have tasted the majority of the popular restaurants staples in SD and here are my top choices: 1. Balboa Burger 2. STP Grill 3. Rockys 4. Swagyu 5. Chicago Fire Grill 6. Hayes 7. Hodads All of these restaurants serve absolutely incredible burgers and are all worth a stop!

Title says it all. This is the place to go if you want a good burger. Only downside is trying to find a table but its worth the wait

Great local burger joint!

The owner of our B&B suggested going to Rocky's Crown Pub for burgers. We were not disappointed. The burgers and fries, served in a basket, were awesome! The beers were ice cold! The pub looks like a wooden shack and has limited seating. We only waited a short time and got a table for 2 near the kitchen. For a Wednesday night, the place was busy with people having a great time. We would definitely go back!

A local grand slam

Rocky's has been a neighborhood home run for years. Hands down the best burger and fries in Southern California. Great beer choices, wine, and cold sodas. The atmosphere is active, lots of folks, and a great sports locale. One bite and you will agree, the best burger you've ever had.

Best burgers ever!

You cannot beat these burgers, I don't anyone will ever, they are huge and very tasty! Being a bar, I will go in, order burgers for the family to go and I will take back to our hotel or a park to eat. I usually have a beer or two while waiting for food.

Simple - Great burgers !

If you want great burgers, fries & a beer, head straight to Rocky's. Forget about fancy or variety or atmosphere. Just tell them what you want on the burger & dig in. Best in town !

Best burger ever.

Friends and I ate a few burgers last week. Small place with a comfy and affordable feel. Really, the best large burgers in Pacific Beach.

Great burgers, great price!

The burgers at Rockys are really good! They are juicy with that little crunch on the edge. The fries are fabulous! The menu is extremely limited but that's ok. You either get a cheese burger or a hamburger and you choose how many patties. That's it. And the fries. Check out the honey pots scattered around the place. If you like spicy, you'll be pleasantly surprised. We were! The place in really small so be prepared to wait. Also no one under 21 allowed and they do card. It's a shame about the 21 thing. My son is 17 and loves burgers. Also, bring CASH. No credit accepted. The prices are reasonable so it won't set you back too much, but be prepared with cash!

World's Best Burgers?

I dont know what they put into the burgers but they are definitely the best I ever had. I travel all the way from Norway solely for the tasteful burgers. Thanx to my OB best friend for revealing this awesome culinary jewel.

Great Burgers!

By Luv2travel1953 |

My son lives in San Diego and thinks they have the best burgers. He took us there in May and it did not disappoint. I got the smallest burger and actually could have gotten one just a little bigger as it was so good! I rated it Very Good rather than Excellent as I don't care for the bar atmosphere but the burgers were great! One other tip - bring cash as they do not take credit cards!

Best burgers in PB

Probably best burgers in San Diego. If you go, plan on staying for an hour - it will take 20 mins to get a seat, another 20 mins to get your burger, and the most glorious 20 minutes to savor every bit of this delicious masterpiece. The juiciness of their burgers are legendary...as are their simplicity.
