Wavering quality and poor value

By mdmd1 |

I ordered the omakase meal at $136.00; omakase meaning chef's choice, which I expected to be very special. Some of it was actually exceptional, specifically the opening sashimi triptych in which the chef showcased his creative gifts, and the small portion of pork belly that followed. A few courses were very good, such as the fresh fruit and strawberry cheesecake dessert, the roasted corn on the cob, and the standard sashimi plate. The fried squid with chili sauce was quite pedestrian, and I wouldn't have expected this inexpensive filler in such a pricy meal. Now, mind you, when I asked, as a single diner, if I could do the omakase meal which stated a minimum of 2 per table, I was given an answer of "yes, but instead of the wagyu beef, you'll get hanger steak," which basically translates to "mis-steak." The roughly 2 or 3 ounces of beef were close to tasteless and so tough that, despite being thinly sliced, I had to spit out the un-untangleable balls of fiber that remained after minutes of arduous mastication with each bite. Yuck. The beef came with a large marrow bone covered in breadcrumbs and a cloyingly sweet and annoying sauce which when rigorously purged, yielded excellently fatty, artery-clogging, buttery rich marrow which gave flavor to the meat, if eaten together. The real basement of the meal was the king crab. Two of the 3 pieces were delectable and naturally sweet. The third, however, had more than a faint very scary dumpsteresque aroma and when tasted, was very obviously spoiled and quickly made its way out of my mouth and back on the plate, though in a non-projectile fashion. After politely alerting the waiter of this culinary assault to my well-being, the dish was replace by 3 new pieces of crab, but that pretty much ruined it for me. Even if the crab had not been spoiled, the I couldn't see the meal as being a value and was somewhat disappointed. But that's just my own 20,000 cents (after 2 drinks, tax and tip were included...)

Wow!

By deborah e |

First time here and while the food was great, we were blown away by the service! Beautiful interior as well. Additionally, they went above and beyond to be mindful of my food allergy. And the food- I hesitantly ordered the pork belly and I can't wait to have it again!!

Excellent High-End Japanese Food & Service

By iQuack |

The food here is delicious and elegant. Service is cordial and professional, too. We started with salmon nigiri that was as fresh as sushi-grade salmon can get. We also had 2 vegetables: a cold creamed spinach with peanut flavor (a bit gloppy, but tasty), and crispy Brussels sprouts that were very good. Instead of ordering a bottle of wine we had wines paired with the food. All were excellent and the numerous small pours were more than adequate. One of us had the Wagyu beef which was beautifully prepared--richly delectable as expected. My dry aged steak was quite good; a 12 oz ribeye that was served diced for easy eating with chopsticks. RoKa Akor is a good choice for high-end Japanese food with outstanding service in a pleasant, comfortable space.

Delicious!!!!

By Sweetpie1982 |

Totally delicious, small drops of heaven. Well, very small because the portions are almost invisible. But it doesn’t matter because the food is really tasty and the cocktails are dangerously delicious! I would really love to go back! Thank you for a love meal!

Terrible customer service

By Joloff1130 |

After reading about how amazing the food and reviews of Roka Akor was, I booked a table for my boyfriend and myself during our visit in San Francisco. Our dinner was at 6pm and the restaurant was quite empty at the time but our waiter had allocated us to a corner table. We had kindly asked that if we were able to change tables to the couch as it had views and we said we have been really excited to come to this restaurant and travelled from Australia (as they were empty and not reserved) which to our disappointment, the staff went and stood to the side with another staff and gave us unwelcoming looks and stares. We waited a good 10-15minutes while they decided to serve the table next to us (who arrived later than us) before even coming back to give us a response. We were able to change tables but was then followed by a night of little remarks when we ordered the food and drinks. Although the food was nice, we were really disappointed with the service and really ruined the experience for us.

A Nice Japanese Chain Restaurant

By ShahramG |

The sushi is very good, the service is ok, the drinks are good. Overall more hype than outstanding quality. I like this place, not love it.. The sashimi omakase is very good quality. The food will not disappoint.

Dinner to celebrate birthdays

By marcyvillaverde |

Treated by my children to this very upscale and cool Robata Grill in San Francisco. My 60th birthday. Best Japanese Waygu steak, freshest selection of sashimi and tiger prawn tempura were so perfect in every way. Service is excellent. Cocktails amazing! Pricey but awesome in every way.

Asian 'tapas' at their best...

By David M |

Based on other TripAdvisor reviews, we booked through Open Table during our stay in SFO. While we didn't really know what to expect - we were very pleased. The selection of sashimi, sushi, and others were excellent - and truly meant to share. We had a California roll, the grilled cauliflower, and the spicy tuna on crispy rice (which was great). Glad we found it!

Amazing !

By Andrea H |

We had a fantastic time and delicious food in this restaurant. We visited with our 10 years old daughter who loves sushi and as it was our first day in SF on our holiday we relied on reviews on TA. I have to say we had an amazing service provided by Allen who was very helpful and knowledgable. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and I loved a cocktail and desserts wine we tried. I would come back any time.

Poor food and service overall

By Atlisaev |

Went for the set menu with wine tasting which was very disappointing. Food look was great but the quality of the food seems to suffer for that. Fish was a little bit still frozen and not so nice. Service was not good. Didn’t like the waiter as she let us feel bad over not finishing the dishes as there was not their problem. The vine tasting seemed very random and was not explained why each wine was there... and just not that good vine compared to the cost. Spent over $600 which was really sad comparing the quality of everything. Definitely a place not for us.

Excellent sushi and wonderful food

By Spw |

Excellent food and atmosphere! The waiters recommended items that were delicious. The corn on the side vegetables is incredible!!!!

Excellent lunch spot - very highend

By Don Spradlin |

I was first taken to this rather large restaurant in the quaint Jackson Square (as in 2 or 3 story19th Century brick buildings) by a Venture Capitalist friend who's office was only a block away. I had walked by the very discreet place many times but never ventured in ... and not only was it buzzing with activity, but we had an easy visit over lunch because it was quiet and spacious ... and the food! It was really creative and delicious. So glad I know about this spot now.

Love this place

By sfobes |

I have had many of their sashimi dishes and love them all. My client had the Wagyu beef and loved too. Everything is great here. It is pricey but worth it. Service is pretty good and ambience is nice. You will be happy coming here for sure! Great for business lunches/dinners as well as with friends etc. Great bar downstairs as well.

Great food

By Jack N |

I had a business dinner with a group at Roka Akor late February. The food was great with very good tuna sushi rolls, spicy fried chicken and escolar sashimi. The grilled salmon and the grilled beef were also excellent. Excellent food at a good location.

Superb Restaurant

By Andre042 |

Having been already in Roka's in London and Chicago, this was another visit to a superb restaurant. The service was very friendly and the food was, as always, outstanding.

Fantastic!

By Tschwaiger |

Went there to have dinner on my own after a hectic week as a treat. I did have expectations but they were more than met! Great innovative food, good setting and attentive staff that is just there when you need them. Wagyu nigiri, sake and green tea shaved ice. Need I say more? Just go and enjoy. And yes it's not cheap. But worth it.

Amazing Dining Experience !

By Janto Widodo |

This place exceeded my expectation. Roka Akor is a upscale sushi, steak, seafood restaurant with a Japanese Fusion type . Their service and the ambience is great , and the food is the champion . You can feel the wagyu melted in your mouth . All are extremely delicious from appetizer to desserts. a must visit restaurant while in SF . Don’t forget to book your table or you gonna regret for not be able to have your meals here.

Favorite sushi spot!

By TravelinHeels |

Love this place! Reservation is a must but they also have a full menu at the bar as well. Their bar area is downstairs and is quite expansive. The happy hour starts from 4-6:30 everyday. House wines are $6. Pretty good Sake for $5. Happy hour burger, tuna roll, sashimi roll and salmon avocado roll are all pretty tasty. They are around $10 each. I also ordered the chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream ($14) is also very good. They also have Tamari soy sauce to accommodate gluten free guests. Awesome service at the bar.

Amazing Food and Chilli Endamane to die for

By wilderfamily |

We had dinner last night with friends after the hotel recommended this restaurant. It was an incredible meal and the service outstanding. The dishes we had which were fantastic were the fresh sashimi and the chilli endamane were out of this world. The tofu was excellent as wet the chilli squid. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent choice for celebrations

By Jeffrey D |

To celebrate my wife's birthday, we chose the omakase route and let the chef lead our evening. The food and service were impeccable, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant for any type of special occasion.

Dinner meeting

By JJ0703 |

Attended a dinner meeting in the evening with a total of about 18 guests. The food selections came out family style and one meal was better th an the next. The brussel sprouts and sushi were my top two plates. Very good dinner.

Pretty good food. Spotty service

By Richard M |

The Food was pretty solid but service inconsistency did not met up with the price. They forgot about me for a while and it was while I waited on my main course. Not a good end.

Incredible Everything

By Chris W |

After a long drive with the family from Carmel to San Fran which included our rental car being broken into at the Winchester Mystery House and a 2 hour rental car swap we wanted/needed a good dinner experience after check in at the Fairmont. We quickly found Roka and were able to make reservations last minute for 8:30 on a Wednesday night. Everything we ordered from the beef dumplings, spicey tuna tartare, sushi, Wagyu filet and even the Brussel sprout and cauliflower sides were amazing! Great service and atmosphere just topped off an otherwise ruff travel day.

Nobu prices without Nobu quality.

By donna b |

We booked here for our last night in San Fran after looking at the trip advisor reviews... It looked nice, was close by and we like Japanese food. We had the Omakase menu which is essentially a number of courses, each devised by the chef so you don't know what you are getting. Food was generally ok but not outstanding and there was plenty of it as is par for the course in the US. High points were the Wagyu beef which was lovely and the dessert course which comprised fresh fruit as well as another four different desserts. Low points - the sashimi was sliced over 1cm thick which is too big and also had the skin left on. The fish course was lobster which was basically inedible as it was so tough and we sent it back. To be fair, they did then send out the black miso cod. With two teeny glasses of white wine the bill was $400.

My Birthday Dinner

By aryeung1 |

Excellent service throughout the entire meal. The waiter Tai was very pleasant and explained the dishes and what he recommends. He also picked a wonderful cocktail to start the night. The sashimi was best that I've ever had...so fresh and the presentation was beautiful. The porkbelly appetizer was the best I've ever had. The dumplings were delicious. Me, my husband and my friends would love to go back and order the omakase next time. It is a pricey place, but you won't be disappointed.

A little over rated

By 2cassandrat |

Abit overrated for the restaurant as fine dining when we googled for fine dining restaurants. It has a cozy atmosphere but food and service were just so so . Wasn't prepared the serving of the steak we ordered to turn out to be like a side dish rather than a main . The shrimp tempura was a let down and was regretted to order that .

Cocktail Omakase

By TravellingTotoro |

Cocktail omakase fuses the Japanese concept of "chef's choice" and cocktails. Over the course of two to four hours, up to five guests will be guided through a thematic cocktail tasting. The night we reserved, the other prepaid couple no showed. So it was just two of us and our cocktail master. Part theater, part history, and part chemistry, we were treated to a full evening of fun and tasty cocktails. The restaurant offers a menu pairing, but i would pass on that and order ala carte. The food bites were excellent. Check out the photos. We even had the opportunity to sample some of the unusual components separately. Plan on walking (stumbling?!) or catching a lyft or a bus home, as you will feel the buzz of five cocktails by evening's end. All this for $78.

Loved every dish!

By alliecat2842 |

We had a wonderful experience at Roka Akor. The space is beautiful. Open and bright. The place was very busy, but the noise level was low and we we able to chat. Service was attentive and friendly. The food was amazing. The sushi was fresh and beautifully presented. We shared the spicy edamame, tiger shrimp, soy miso corn, crispy Brussel sprouts, and a tuna roll. I enjoyed every dish! It's pricey but worth it. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes. It's a great place for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. My gentleman friend raves about the beef.

Holy Shitake!!

By REGirl1 |

We were definitely underdressed and the hostess seemed a little put off, but all of the other staff was very friendly and accommodating. This is definitely a trendy spot to be seen so I would recommend dressing accordingly. Trip Advisor should add a dress code option to their reviews. I will add them to mine going forward. This is definitely trendy night out. Now for the important part, the food: delicious. Definitely the best meal we had in 10 days in Cali. The Blood Orange Margarita was just the right amount of sweet, tart and spicy. Sushi was very good, not the best I have ever had, but not at all disappointing. Everything was nicely plated and the service was very good, but the ABSOLUTE best was the Mushroom rice. I would fly back across the country to eat it again. It was heaven. One of the best things I have eaten. Trust me, you have to try it.

Just awesome place

By Golfermom28 |

A client took me here and will love him forever for doing so. 🤪 Service was over the top friendly efficient refilled waters without asking The menu for our lunch we picked an appetizer and then main meal and all came with soup and rice The miso soup was excellent flavors robust and how miso is made My appetizer was beet salad it was small and I couldn’t finish it Loved the flavors taste and presentation I ordered a Steak marinated in bold flavors yet not interfering with an amazing serving of steak. The dish was small so if you are hungry hungry it will not fill you up. I ate every last piece of steak and it was medium like I asked Can’t wait to go back and have the same thing adding them something new to try Memorable time and meal thanks to great client

Good buzz, great food. Pricy

By Alexander M |

We really enjoyed it all. It's certainly a lively place. Even on the Monday evening we went. The menu is great. With exceptional sushi. You pay for what you get.

Utter disappoint; horrific service. Can't compare with Ozumo

By dacosolutions12 |

waiter told us they did not have simple drink mixers (ie cranberry) and limited to no choice with liquor other than well. Took over an hour to get any food. Waiter was 2/5 and the helper (Carlos was 6/5 FANTASTIC!). two of us ordered 8 items and they took 3 HOURS to get the food completely served. Based upon looking at their bar and the extreme lack of any liquor bottles I have to assume they are near going out of business. The food was actually quite good 4/5, but the service was inexcusable.

Amazing food

By Kate S. |

Had lunch here with 3 colleagues. Amazing food, loved the steak tartare. The chefs sashimi combined with a nice glass of rose champagne. Excellent! We also ordered the Wagiyu beef medium rare, which was amazing, but too spiced and seasoned for me. It’s a great piece of meet, just grilled with some salt would have been my personal favorite. The only downside for me with this restaurant is: the noice. It’s so loud in there with music and people talking, I couldn’t understand my colleague well.

Birthday visit

By Carol E |

Outstanding! We arrived early for our booking so went to the bar downstairs for a drink. Far from it being a dingy pokey corner, which is often the case, the bar was spacious with subtle lighting and calm. We don't have sufficient knowledge of Japanese cuisine to do justice to a special meal so went with the Chef's selection. It was amazing on every level. Cooking and presentation were perfect. I don't have enough adjectives to describe how much we enjoyed it. Service was also excellent with the slight exception of not topping up our glasses but we have hands so no problem. Absolutely outstanding and highly recommended!!!

Great food and service

By MichelDavidoff |

I have taken a couple of years off writing reviews during the pandemic, not wanting to write anything that might negatively impact a business. So, after the great meal yesterday night, I decided that it is time to start writing again. The food and service were both excellent. All the fish/sushi were very fresh and were made to perfection. The Salmon toro was an experience. A must when in SF. The only thing that prevented the experience from being perfect "no bubble water". I will go back!

Disappointing

By MidAtlanticMan |

Was looking forward to this dinner after reading other reviews but it didn’t live up to expectations. Service was good and the space is very nice, although it’s very noisy. Food however was disappointing. Other than the yellowtail sashimi and the Brussels sprouts we didn’t enjoy any of the dishes. Had scallops that were “gritty’ and unpleasant. Other dishes we found quite course with crude seasoning. Couldn’t help but compare to keniichi in Aspen, which is way better.

Excellent Japanese grill in the Financial District

By Scott M |

Excellent sakes and wines, delicious sushi and sashimi expertly prepared, and the grilled everything is terrific. The grilled beef is especially good. I was with a party of about 10 people, and it seems like a great spot for a crowd.

Good food great atmosphere

By Stewart C |

The hospitality was great. We had a business dinner for 4 colleagues and the food was very fresh and service was excellent. The crab rolls were a bit disappointing but the wagu was amazing! The Mizo soup was a bit watery. Had a drink made with their own ginger beer and was really good. Will be back for sure.

Perfect!

By Martin H |

Wonderful high quality food and the service was perfect! We had meet and sushi, very good food. The restaurant was modern. We recommend it highly.

Fantastic Food and Service

By Slymont |

Fantastic food and service! Every dish seemed somehow better than the previous. Erin took great care of our group of 11 and everyone enjoyed everything.

Piece de resistance

By amberlynn72 |

This was our grand finale to a 12 day luxury vacation and so glad I picked this restaurant, It was amazing!! We started off with Osetra caviar and beet salad. Several varieties of rolls and my son loved his Chef's sashimi tasting. We sampled the A5 takamori drunken wagyu topped with bone marrow butter, so tender smoked, silky and delicious. Our desserts were also amazing but sad they weren't serving panna cotta I was anxiously awaiting, they were kind enough to have a small little pre Birthday surprise for me. I hope they enjoyed having us as much as we enjoyed being their guests.

Dinner

By patriciabadinotti |

Were sent to fine here by the concierge of the Nikko We took the black cod in magnolia leaf and beef filet with marrow. Sake and a glass of Zinfandel The restaurant was very crowded and loud. Nevertheless service was attent and very friendly The flavours of the food very interesting. Would go back. Absolutely advisable. Also has a bar. Liked it very much

Phenomenal Japanese fusion cuisine

By Betty S |

We were so fortunate to dine at Roka Akor. The restaurant itself is casually elegant, and what we sampled of its wide menu was outstanding to the very last dish. We were five people and, between us, we sampled these appetizers: two maki rolls (soft shell crab and yellowtail), robata (grilled) pork belly, robata shishito peppers, and scallops--all scrumptious. For main courses, we ordered the magnolia-leaf wrapped black cod, wagyu steak, fried chicken, and hamachi cheeks (actually collars). There wasn't one in the bunch that wasn't delicious. The food is quite rich and heavy, but worth the calories!

Great place for a special event

By MatSci94577 |

Visited Roka Akor for our 26 anniversary. We also brought our 16 year old daughter for the occasion. The restaurant was quiet for our 1 pm lunch. It was not too far from BART and there is a great art store nearby. The food is a bit expensive but well worth it. We dined Tapas style to try as many dishes as possible. Most notable was the sweet corn, hamachi roll, Brussel sprouts, sushi assortment, pork belly, and yellow tail appetizer. Service was good. Nice ambience. Excellent ginger sodas.

One bad apple, can spoil the entire bunch!!

By D W |

Great food, great ambiance, THE END! Met with Arthur our waiter (Russian my guest) who took our order and that was the last we saw of him. Everyone around our table was checked on and was given full attention. He never once attended to us after taking our order and we were left with a dirty table for the duration of our dinner. No further communication what so ever. We are a multi racial family. I am black, husband is white, we were with our children. I am left to assume that this waiter was racist by the way we were treated. We requested. to speak with the Manager about our treatment and showed her how our table was completely neglected. She was apologetic. No discount or apology could make up for how our family felt. We came from the east coast and were celebrating our daughter’s birthday. What a horrible experience for our kids. We will never return to this restaurant!!! I hope the owners are reading this, be careful who you hire, because one bad apple can bring down the whole bunch. We will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone. I encourage my brothers and sisters also to stand in solidarity with Me

Amazing food

Great food, great service with well decorated surroundings. Absolutely faultless and the pictures speak for themselves.

Recommended by a friend and completely correct. Fabulous flavoursome food. The cod- to die for. Well worth the money and I rarely say that

Awesome and delicious food!

By foodietravelsaround |

On our tour and search for good food in the San Francisco area we stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant. Thank you TripAdvisor! Our waitress was friendly and informative from beginning until the end. She really knew how to make our night enjoyable by having accommodated our dietary restrictions and recommendations. Thank you Jennifer for showing us the way! (We are trying to be gluten free.) We started of with a featured wine, a champagne rose. We loved that they were giving back with donations to help the breast cancer survivors. The Black Cod was to die for as it was so buttery and delicious. The caramel flan was a great way to finish of a fabulous dinner guilt free (yea right) as it was a gluten free dessert. I hope to visit again before we go back home. Apparently, they have happy hour every Sunday all day with $1 oysters. All in all, they are doing something right over there at Roka, trust me.

Gem in SF

By kw201717 |

Every single dish was just so refined and splendid! We especially liked the beef, scallops and corn. This restaurant is a gem!

Asian Fusion at its best!

By CTPreview |

Don't go to San Francisco for dinner often. This was a wonderful night out with friends in a tremendous restaurant. Food was memorable, wine was great, service was perfect. Just a great night out for all of us.

Great Japanese Steakhouse/Sushi

By Revlucky |

My wife and I dined here for the first time. We will come back. The room is relatively casual, without tablecloths, but very attractive. Later in the evening, it can get noisy as it gets busier. Our waiter, Tailn, was pleasant and informative, giving us a layout of how the menu worked and the best selections. We ordered the chef’s selection of sashimi, which proved to be fortuitous. The sashimi (2 pieces of each variety) was sublimely fresh and lovely. Highly recommend it. We also enjoyed the shrimp tempura before our main courses, which was extremely tasty and came with a wonderful chili based sauce for dipping. My wife had the crab legs and I ordered the wagyu sirloin with bone marrow. Both were excellent, as was the side dish of corn (per our server’s recommendation.) The beef, in particular, was noteworthy, having a wonderful char and therefore, flavor. We also had the chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. The cocktails before dinner were competent and the wine list, while not extensive, was well-selected. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and while this is not the most economical place to eat, it offers excellent food with first quality ingredients in a pleasant setting.

By world travler |

A new style sushi spot. Just walking through the door this restaurant smelled amazing, like wood fire and wagu. I really appreciated that I didn’t have to put any thought into what I ordered, my waiter suggested all my dishes and they all were amazing! The food is cooked right in front of you which is creates a nice experience.

Fantastic and amazing experience

By Tomek W |

The steak and sushi restaurant with open kitchen has very nice interiors. The food was amazing - best ever a have! I ordred wagyu tartare and sashimi tuna flight. Everything best quality, best taste. The fish was so fresh and tasty. Tartar amazing. We had also some maki rolls and wagyu filet mignon. You have to visit that spot !

Well worth the visit

By BrentwoodTerry |

We love Japanese food and we weren’t disappointed. The teriyaki salmon and chicken were absolutely lovely as was the salmon and avocado rolls which were truly delicious. The crunchy Brussel sprouts recommended by our waiter were a revelation. Not so sure about the shrimp tempura although tasty, we prefer the prawn offering from Nobu, Roka and Zuma (in London) . Thank you for a delightful experience

Great experience

By DD68 |

Managed to book a table for five and was served very quickly. We ordered the Omakase menu which was quite good value for $138 per pax. Good variety of sashimi, beef, tempura, rice. Great ambience.

Amazing!

By Foodie071717 |

Let me start with the service....Excellent. The servers made excellent recommendations. They were attentive but not pushy and the manager was extremely pleasant and knowledgable. Next, the restaurant interior was decent...a little worn out and old which did not match the delicious food. MY goodness...the FOOD! Excellent! Excellent! Excellent. I hope the other locations are as good as SF.

Truly amazing dining experience!!

By Zach_September |

Based on its unassuming exterior, you'd never imagine the treat for the senses that lies inside. Our reservation was at 9:00 p.m. so we weren't able to explore the lower bar. However, what I saw from the doorway was enough to convince me of the need for a return visit at an earlier hour. Dark lighting, plenty of couch seating and a fully stocked bar...count me in! As for our dinner selections, we relied on our server and he really rose to the occasion. My gf had the black cod and I opted for the wagyu sirloin with bone marrow. Both were exceptional and it would be difficult to explore new territory on our next visit. Loved this place top to bottom.

Perfection!

By Empress9999 |

We don’t often make Japanese food our dinner destination. We’re not exactly sure why, but a recent trip to San Francisco inspired us. We are so happy to have experienced dinner at Roka Akor. The restaurant is hip, loud, filled with beautiful, young diners with large expense accounts. We hardly felt like we belonged - it’s like when we visit Starbucks. We’re never just cool enough, but we fake our way through. The food? Amazing! We shared a maki roll with a sweet and spicy chili dipping sauce, tempura shrimp and then, the main attraction, the wagyu steak served with a side of roasted cauliflower. The steak was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, like none we had ever tasted before. The service was attentive and enhanced our dining experience. Overall, this was a truly perfect meal.

Excellent sushi roller and sake

By Nemka S |

Its downstairs bar is great place. Currently enjoying the its nice food and drinks. The staff friendly, hospitWill be back definetely.

Private Dining Experience Amazing!

By Michael V |

We really enjoyed the private dining room here for a casual business event. We opted for the Omakase menu and were taken care of by William. Everything was elegantly presented, tasted amazing, and was paired well with the wine, beer, and sake that was recommended. We could not be happier with the service, ambiance, and of course amazing food. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to have a smaller event around 10 people. We'll be back!

Overpriced Sushi.

By David F |

Great decor and very good service. However, sushi was overpriced and lacked the taste. Normal high end sushi restaurants have much more flavor and taste so Roma left me disappointed. It was good but not for the value paid.

Business dinner - great food and service.

By Gary H |

Took some customers to dinner on a Monday evening. The restaurant is certainly not inexpensive but does make for a great meal. I would recommend the chicken dumplings, and the edamame for appetizers. i had the Teriyaki chicken as an entree and it was good. I mentioned the sweet corn as a throw-in side and was told that it was one of their most popular items. I would highly recommend it. I plan to try to make it myself when i can. It was fantastic.

Reliably good

By Razzi-B |

I've been to the one in London several times but this was my first visit to their San Francisco outlet. The style & quality is much the same, with the food & service being reliably good.

Very good fish, ambiance a bit challenged

By wary_mecki |

We had a large family style dinner, so lots of choice to sample. Fish was very fresh and tasty. Service was committed but a bit inconsistent. Setting more rustic than expected. Overall good and recommended but I am not too excited.

What an amazing Restaurant

By Julia C |

My daughter and I enjoyed an excellent meal at this restaurant. Everything was 5 star..service, ambience and food. Some very unique dishes and presentation had a big wow factor. Prices are expensive but worth it.

Pricey Chef's Signature Menu

By Bruno Cecchetti |

Great and sophisticated environment, we tried the Signature Menu and it was a very exotic and different choice in terms of gastronomic experience. Caviar, Wagyu, great sweet corn, scallops, sushi, sashimi complete. But in my opinion the cost was pricey considering the cost-benefit of the experience.

Great food

By mi v |

I was looking for some restaurant for a date on envibe and saw a Roka Akor. I immediately realized that this place is what I was looking for! I'm a big fan of cocktails and seafood, and this place is great for me. The food, the service, the cocktails were perfect!

Best Wagyu steak!

By The Wandering Nibbler |

Roka Akor, situated in the heart of San Francisco, is an upscale Japanese restaurant which focuses mainly on steaks. The design of the restaurant is very contemporary with an open robata grill in the dining room; just like the one in London. In terms of food I would strongly recommend to focus on steaks and the different wagyu beef cuts. My friend and I tried several dishes on the menu and the following are the ones I would suggest: Wagyu Filet Tartare Robata scallops Chicken & Foie Gras dumplings Wagyu Gunkan Japanese Grade A5+ Takamori drunken Wagyu beef

Roka vs Ozumo

By Tiffine |

I struggle to decide if I like Roka or Ozumo better, I think I'm leaning towards Ozumo because they have better sake flights and the cost is slightly lower. Roka has great individual/small table service but they are terrible with large groups (we booked out downstairs and they kept the music blaring) all in all the food is quite good.

japanese fusion with delish twist

By taste88 |

I really cannot describe how good the food in this place, as i think you have to experience yourself. The presentations are very tempting, even some of the ingredient i never heard of such as Himalayan salt rock which is really good with the O Toro. The meat they use was really melting in your mouth Japanese Wagyu A5+ grade. The service was 9.5 out of 10.

Fantastic food and great drinks

By Daydream20137098823 |

Marvelous food accompanied with great drinks. Staff very attentive and nice. The place is definitely worth re-visiting.

Amazing food, service and ambience

By Szofia J |

I had the tasting menu, and while I was quite full halfway through there was no stopping me. Absolutely fantastic Asian cuisine, if you are a fan of sushi, sashimi and the likes of it, this is a MUST. Also, very friendly staff. The room is quite noisy but in a happy, engaging way.

Perfection!

By 799leonards |

Yet another wonderful dinner experience at Roka! The attention to detail, very knowledgable staff, and amazing food make this a restaurant you should add to your list on your next trip to San Francisco. The black cod is incredible, and I have to say every dish we tried was excellent. A very good wine/sake list with reasonable prices. We had an excellent Pinot from Oregon that went very well with all the dishes ordered.

When you want to binge!

By Meldy C |

"Omakase shimasu "- and glad that 2 out of our group of 6 went for it - creative, fun presentation and everything was delicious - but the wagyu stood out amongst the array of creations given that night. Our server could have done a better job of informing us what the omakase dessert plate consisted of ,it's hard to believe that he didn't know which dessert items goes into the omakase dessert plate (i asked and he said it's a surprise) , we ended up ordering duplicates instead of being able to sample dessert items that were not on the omakase line-up.

Hip fusion of old school and nouveau Japanese works in a big way

By Holokauahi |

An amazing haven of calm and zen that somehow bustles without bothering, and serves up amazing wood fire grilled specialties, alongside sushi and other traditional dishes. Wonderful, creative entrees and desserts, an impressive cocktail menu, and a 100 percent terrific staff -- from the lovely lady who greeted us at the door to the servers, bus staff, and all. This will be a new "go to" place when in SFO for business. Well done!

Roka , the Best Asian Fusion

By Thomas K |

One of the best experiences in San Francisco. The bar downstairs is leek and lively, the drinks well mixed and there is an interesting mix of people. The restaurant upstairs in reminiscent of Roka London but still with its own style. The open kitchen, the friendly waiters, and the most incredible F&B manager make your day/night/life. Outstanding fusion food. 7 guests and a Chihuahua ate 10 appetizers and 12 mains. Every plate was exceptional. It's worth every penny. to eat here.

Loved it!

By Mmp650 |

Being Japanese food lovers, my wife and I, taken a few friends of ours to this restaurant for them to try. It is the second time I’ve been here and the experience was just as great as the first. The food was exceptional with the addition of a great atmosphere. Do not expect a quiet meal in isolation. The restaurant is filled with people socializing and having a great time. The only hindrances to my recommendations to this place are the price (which is expected of a high end restaurant like this) and parking (as San Francisco is notorious for difficulty parking).

Great setting and good food during happy hour

By EchoDBE |

Great setting, good food , including happy hour in downstairs section Sushi fresh and creative. Wonderful service.

Excellent

By mspatron |

after all said and done we found that we have been sitting for over 3 hrs just enjoying the food and spirits. Starting with the Wagu tartare to the shishito peppers we decided to let the water take over and surprise us with rolls after rolls--it was surreal. It was $$$$ but worth it

This was really DELICIOUS

By Tunasalmen |

This was really a DELICIOUS LUNCH. The food was amazing and interesting. Very clean and our waitress was Very Helpful. Look forward to a return visit.

Delicious Japanese

By Kawana Travellers |

Dinner at Roka Akor was simply astounding. The sashimi was really fresh. I love the modern nigiri, especially the unagi with foie gras and the salmon with cavier. The conked foie gras dumplings were amazing. There was a fantastic selection of sake, Including half bottles,We tried the Demon Slayer which was crisp and very moreish. Service was excellent.

Inventive Japanese

By MaR320 |

We had a business dinner here and we took the recommended omakase and wine pairing. The foods were inventive, especially the pairing of small blini’s and sashimi. The only complaint could be that the desserts were just too big. The omakase is a bargain actually!

Delicious Food

By Englishguy85 |

This restaurant has an open kitchen so you can see everything cooked fresh. The food is phenomenal - I highly recommend the Tuna Tataki and the Brussels Sprouts - yum!! Service was very attentive and friendly. This is an expensive restaurant but everything tasted so delicious it's worth it.

Great Food - Great Service

By BiciFan |

Rok Akor never fails to impress. Although it can get a bit noisy at times, that noise is also great energy. The waitstaff clearly take pride in their jobs and the kitchen delivers top shelf food. I enjoy sitting on the window line as it gives a great vantage point for people watching both in and out of the restaurant.

Good drinks good food

By Mira2009umit |

I would highly recommend that you try one of the house cocktails before you start dining. They were tasty. The food is delicious. The sashimi was out of this world and the presentation was excellent. I would love to get back and try more from the menu.

Interesting but for me misses the mark

By Dr K |

Was taken here for dinner by a close friend and the first question was is it related to Roka in London? couldn't get a clear answer. There were many and I mean too many wait staff. so many in fact it became confusing who to turn to with requests. Then there seemed to be an 'overeager' effort to please. So much so that it bordered on patronizing. Staff were helpful and polite but just seemed not very aware and as if they were running of a script, not natural. The food was good and the sushi was super fresh which was delightful. All in all i think it definitely worth a visit. But keep expectations reasonable.

Amazing Sushi

By Diego-La-Rocca |

I had dinner one night with clients during Dreamforce. This is a stylish restaurant in the heart of San Francisco cooking excellent sushi. Particularly impressive was the scallops nigiri with truffle on top. That dish definitely was the "rockstar" of the dinner. Location is quite impressive, service is high standard. One of the best sushi I have ever had. I would recommend for business as well as romantic dinner.

Excellent happy hour

By extrakimchi |

Went here on Fathers Day and we had a reservation for dinner ,however they do not allow you to have Happy Hour in the dining room. Not only we can order fr the happy hour menu but also from their regular menu. To our surprise their lounge actually looks cozy with multiple couches and pretty spacious. It was a sunday so the big draw for me were the $1 oysters. It was fabulous. Yummy oysters, the drink cocktails are excellent . Their Happy hour appetizers actually taste better from their other regular appetizers. Great service, our bartender was very knowledgabe with the menu and makes great cocktails. Would definitely go back her for happy hour. Have to try the other appetizers in their menu.

Not good at all

By Bellab400 |

Visited here whilst on vacation in San Francisco. As a family we love Japanese food and are frequent visitors to Nobu and Roka in London. We walked in without a reservation and were quite understandably told that no tables were available in the main restaurant but that we could eat in the bar downstairs. The main restaurant is beautifully decorated and very stylish unfortunately the same cannot be said for the bar, the whole area looks old, dated and in need of a revamp. Our server was pleasant but not that helpful with the menu. We ordered a selection of different dishes, the sushi was ok, nothing special. The tempura dishes were very good. The teriyaki chicken was unfortunately raw in parts with blood visible in the meat. We ordered some steamed rice and this came complete with a hair!!! When we used the bathrooms they smelt of sewage. The whole experience made me feel slightly queasy, I don’t think this restaurant is particularly clean and the food in parts is ok. Service was fine. I’m sure there are far superior Japanese restaurants in the area.

Loved it!

By BaffledbyOtherReview |

I’ve been to Roka in Charlotte Street London but this is better. Our waitress was super friendly and very professional. The venue interior is really attractive - big tables, not at all overcrowded. The open grill and kitchen are fascinating to watch. There is a great buzz without the place being ridiculously loud. The quality of ingredients was impressive. Stand-out dishes: uni, yellow-tail, wagyu beef with bone marrow. The vegetable tempura wasn’t up to standard. The waitress apologised profusely and removed the charge from the bill without us asking: classy and rare. Loved it so much we are going back tonight: hurrah!

Great food

By Review_time_me |

Great starters, great wagyu, wine to pair fair... Food quality is very good, fresh veggies and 1A meat. Glad we came here It can get a bit loud, but is part of the deal...

Sushi Sushi Sushi

By MelZimmer |

This restaurant had a unique sushi offering. We went with the waiters recommendation and did not go wrong. All the house offerings denoted on the menu were amazing and the wine list expansive. I'm so happy we stopped at this restaurant. One of our very best meals during our trip!

ROKA AKOR Rocked It!

By Paul S |

I've lived in San Francisco for nearly 3 years and so many people have raved about ROKA AKOR and I finally experienced what the hype is about. My first dinner for 2018 ... absolutely sensational. The best Japanese food I've had in San Francisco. I'm vegetarian and sometimes I get looked down upon at more up-market restaurants, but the team were amazing ... and the food was beyond amazing! The appetisers were delicious and the main courses were so innovative and the tastes were phenomenal!

Perfect meal

By Sue L |

We were invited as guests of a small group to this restaurant. The host ordered the 'chef's choice' menu. The food was some of the best flavours I've eaten in Japanese food - it was beautifully presented and there was plenty of it. Many dishes were individually portioned which I really like in a group. The smoky beef was a favourite, so was the sashimi - and the tempura was light and very crisp. Actually, I could list all of the about 15 serves! I'd hate to think how much the dinner cost per person - perhaps this is a consideration when booking here.

Best place

By Travel H |

My favorite restaurant in SF!! An adventure. Will come back asap Got a table fast and easy Fun to watch the cooks prepare the food A little long to wait though until it gets served

Very good japanese food

By philippealexandre333 |

The food was brilliant. We had a very good Time testing very diffrent plates. Saké was perfect. Be careful because the prices are high but it is worth it.

Ooh La La!

By NMTaosena |

My sister and I shared dishes downstairs at the bar. Everything - our Weygu steak, crispy brussels sprouts and grilled asparagus - was divine. Our waiter made an inspired and knowledgeable recommendation on the right sake for us. We sat in comfy chairs with a low table between us. We'll be back next time we meet in San Francisco!

Great Japanese Food

By Kevin R |

We were recommended the Roka Akor restaurant and it proved to be a great place. Food was excellent, Black Cod and Wagu dumplings were great but the sweet corn was something extra special. Japanese cheesecake with marinated pear and strawberry sorbet topped off a great dinner. Service was first rate and very helpful. Highly recommend. Pricey but worth it.

Fabulous Food

By bryonp394 |

Awesome beet salad super steak ribeye and my son loved the lamb chops my angel lived the salmon the ice cream wow Bryon and His Angel

Great Everything !

By FTichy |

The place is very modern. Reservations are recommended. We went there without it and had to wait about 20 minutes, which was not bad at all. Our waiter Dilon was very knowledgeable about the menu and was pretty attentive. The ambiance is great, a bit dark but it all ties in with the decor of the place. The food was amazing, very flavorful and great presentation. You can tell it was all fresh. Starters, main course, dessert and coffee ..... all high quality all around. It was a great experience, highly recommend it. It is expensive but maybe for a special occasion. Parking, like everywhere in SF, is a challenge. I recommend Uber.

Gone way down hill

By CaWineGuy |

Having enjoyed Roka Akor multiple times previously, I was very dismayed by my most recent experience. The waiter was extremely distracted, and made multiple mistakes - such as forgetting to bring us the bottle of Sake we ordered the very first thing. The food is also not as good as it used to be. The brussel sprouts were drowning in the dressing, they serve a grilled corn side that is an embarrassment (who cuts a cob of corn into four triangles?), even the meat is not as good as it used to be. Hopefully this was just an off-night, but I won't be rushing back to Roka anytime soon.

Great all-night happy hour on Sundays!

By Negative Basis |

Visited the bar for the Sunday all-night happy hour. Service was friendly and efficient and the bar was a fun space below the restaurant's regular dining room. The happy hour menu offers well-priced selections of both sushi and hot dishes. The low happy hour prices let us construct our own tasting menu - and no dish disappointed. The food quality was very good and I would be happy to return on my next trip to San Francisco.

It is not...

By wallmaker |

the Roka, if you know the Roka in Charlotte Street in London. They try, service is okay, the restaurant itself, well, it passes, but the food fails. Nigri is ok, but nothing else. The quality difference is huge, unfortunately.

Amazing Time

By David T |

For our last night in SF we happened to get a reservation here - started with drinks in a great lower bar and the cocktails were very well done. Up for dinner and had a fabulous meal - service was fantastic and the food top notch. Will be back in October - absolutely recommend

Tasty with great service

By Catherine |

The food was pretty tasty, the service excellent and atmosphere was good. We were 3 people in for a business dinner. Our waiter never made us feel rushed and was friendly. The timing of the food could have been done a little better. We explained that some of us had food restrictions so we wouldn't be sharing, but for some reason he fired one persons food as the starters and then everything else out of sequence too. That was my only hitch.

Lovely Semi-Private Dining

By pagesixtyone |

We had a dinner for a group of 20 in the semi-private bar/lounge area. We chose the Kandaina private dining set, which started with edamame and then continued with a first course of a delicious golden beet salad, Japanese-style fried chicken, and yellowtail sashimi. That was followed by the second course of the chef selection sashimi platter (amberjack, salmon, tuna, and yellowtail that day), tuna roll, and assorted vegetable roll. The third course was a tender wagyu filet, moist and flaky black cod, brussels sprouts that everyone raved about, and a tasty Japanese mushroom rice. The dessert was cherry blossom panna cotta with fresh fruit. The dinner was served family style and the portions were generous as well as delicious. The service was attentive throughout. All in all, Roka Akor provided us with a great setting for a lovely, memorable evening.

Great food, great service!

By iyeh |

Went with a few of my friends and wow.... We ordered the omakase and were not disappointed! The server was extremely helpful and even helped us plan our evening activities afterwards! I can't say anything bad about the food. The sushi was amazing, fresh, as you would expect. The king crab dish is absolutely amazing, and of course the Wagyu beef steak was heavenly. As mentioned in previous posts, the price is a bit steep, but I think the value is there.

Enjoyed tasting menu

By JVDZ7 |

Solid performance. We had a tasting menu and it was great. Service was warm and attentive. They treated us to some extras. Its a happening place with young vibe. Due to a large open-space the level of noise is high.

Good, expensive sushi

By Nick C |

We had a great experience here... but man, was it expensive, so be prepared. We decided on the chef selection...and it did not disappoint. Our waiter was not the greatest, though. We probably could have spent more there had he been more attentive.

Fantastic Sushi lunch

By ChB1970 |

A very nice Sushi / Japanese Cusine place. We had lunch there. Could talk business. A little of JPMorgan conferenc but because of that it was not that crowded. Very good food!

Wonderful

By Jayorbon |

Wonderful sashimi and wagyu dishes. We had a flight of maguro, chu and o toro. It was unbeleivable. I fish big yellowfin and middle size bluefin so I eat a lot if tuna. This was worth the price. We also had domestic and Japanese wagyu. Also wonderful. Loved it.

Creative, Contemporary Japanese

By PlatinumHoney |

A terrific dinner experience. Open kitchen with fire blazing so can watch chefs prepare food with the antics that go with that display. Nice, simple decor, nothing crazy, but not even noticeable as the place was full and our attention was food focused. (They have a bar downstairs which was having a private party, but the space looked inviting, as did the entrance; also a closed off glassed in dining area with a long table for an intimate crowd is an option.) Food was excellent. Had the wagyu tartare...just terrific, as was the escolar which wrapped around white asparagus; for mains, the beef short ribs was absolutely the best, followed by the lamb chops (spicy sauce) and the black cod. Also crispy Brussels sprouts side superb! A nice bottle of wine and $320 later, with tip, we were glad to have had dinner here. Creative menu. Lovely presentation. Good service. All around, a winner.

Food with art

By Rodrigo A |

We loved it . They were so kind, everything was delicious, they decorated the plates with light and sometimes it looked so nice that you feel sorry for eating. For real one of the best japanese restaurant ever . I could stay there forever, but you have to pay the price , it is expensive!! But sometime you deserve food with art !!

Good restaurant, bad receptionist

By Felix D |

Good restaurant, good food, nice service from the waiters, too bad they have a receptionist with attitude problem. Ruined my mood before even I sit on the table. You guys should have a receptionist who will welcome your guests nicely even to foreigners like me.

Ambiance and Atmosphere were incredible and the dishes were stellar, great spot for a special occasion dinner!

By Marlin T |

Took the wife out to the Bay area for her birthday and made reservations at Roka Akor based on recommendations from a few friends. From the hostess to our service staff, the chefs who were gracious with their time to acknowledge the occasion and management on the floor - everyone was gracious, attentive, amiable in ensuring a phenomenal experience. Ambiance and Atmosphere were incredible and the dishes were stellar, great spot for a special occasion dinner!

Great Sushi But A Lot More

By OnAir813933 |

This is a place to taste sushi, but go for some of the other dishes on the grill...not cheap, but properly done fresh fish.....go down to the bar during happy hour, and nibble some amazing Japanese food.

Worth It

By Averell C |

Went here with my girlfriend for my birthday. The staff was extremely attentive and nice. The atmosphere of the bar downstairs was not bad but the music was a bit too loud in my opinion. The food was amazing and I think it was reasonably priced. Only thing I have to say is that the nigiri was made a bit sloppy on some pieces with the ice being too lightly packed. But overall the taste was amazing and nothing else to complain about.

Brilliant!

By doz y |

Fantastic food, great service but is on the pricey side. Everything we ordered were executed well, from brussels sprouts to the grilled corn with butter to the melt in your mouth waygu steak, grilled pork belly and yuzu miso black cod. Some of the dishes were traditional Japanese but some weren't. All great.

Japanese cuisine at its best

By alicemag |

We took a vacation in San Francisco in Feb. 2016. We wanted to try as many restaurants as we could and savor the different kinds of cuisine the city had to offer. One that stood out is the Roka Akor Restaurant on Montogmery St. You will be misguided by the name but it is Japanese restaurant. The food is partly Japanese fusion but the way it is served is very enticing and delicious. The sushi and sashimi dishes are delectable but the two most outstanding dishes I had were the tempura and the sweet corn. The tempura is served in a plate with balls of shrimps with a delicious sauce . I have never tried tempura served this way. You have to try the sweet baby corn which is served with butter, I believe . We also had small bites of steak but I now cannot remember the name of the dish served in a unique plating. The restaurant is meduim sized and is always full so making reservations is a must. Down a flight of stairs is a bar where they have music on certain days of the week. We heard about this restaurant from our friends who said we cannot leave San Francisco without eating there. As a side note, we did go back there again before going back home. For a unique Japanese dining experience, you should try it.

Best Japanese in Town!

By Alfonso R |

One of the best Japanese I’ve been in many years. Service and food exceeded my expectations and prices are according to the quality of the food. Amazing

Excellent omakase

By missking206 |

No complaints from us. The food and service were excellent! They originally seated us at at table by the window, the staff were more than accommodating when we asked if we could sit at the bar by the kitchen. It was a great experience getting to watch our food being made. It was a last minute reservation and I'm glad we were able to go. Definitely would go again.

Food was superb but service not so much...

By Alex C |

The food was outstanding and delicious. Worth every dollar. Was selection was also great. Wish the service (server particularly) would have been better.

Great...

By BRUNO L |

Great food and great people. Really high price but the food is fantastic. Do not expect to pay less than $100 per people, without wine. High level Japanese restaurant.... Very good moment.

Wobbly start but an awesome meal

By SJL1605 |

We arrived to fine one guy on reception talking on the phone and completely ignoring us. Not even a quiet word apologizing for the wait. We stood there for more than 5 minutes before he finished his call and acknowledged our presence. After we sat down the manager came round asking if we were enjoying our evening and I politely suggested that there should always be two people on the front desk. He told me that there should be, apologized profusely, and ordered two glasses of wine for us on the house, which was a really nice touch. He immediately went to investigate and came back to explain what had happened and apologized again. We didnt less this ruin our evening. The food was excellent, and the service was very good, although I would agree with other reviewers that there might actually be too many wait staff there and it isnt clear what everyone's job is and who is doing what. It got a little confusing! But that doesnt take away from the fact that the sushi was excellent, as were the other dishes that we tried, and we absolutely would go back there again if we were in town.

Japanese dinner

By BPenuliar2015 |

We went to Roka Akor on July 3rd and had dinner downstairs/bar and it was not crowded . My favorite was the tuna tataki. I can order 3 of those as my appetizer . Another favorite was the salmon belly and unagi . The rhubarb and lemon tart was ok. The restaurant has a hip ambience.

Amazing one of the best sushi I have ever been to ;)

By Sam L |

Menu 25 usd is amazing the terriaki salmon and the sauce is just great! Sake was a little exp as 30 use for the bottle but the food was so yummy!!!

Best way to go is with the tasting menu

By DonCTfoodie |

Of the selection tasting menu gives you a great selection of the most interesting parts of the menu which are fascinating and presented very attractively. Including the expensive 5A waygu. Very expensive but unbelievably good. Short ribs highly recommended as add on to menu. Japanese fried chicken feat too

Amazing

By Nicolaas Smit |

Stumbled across this place on a late Sunday afternoon. One of only a few open places in the financial district on a Sunday. Got a seat at the sushi table. The food is so tasty and flavorful. Just delicious. I like meat so I had the pork belly and the short rib! Both with the most amazing flavors and sauce! All dishes are prepared on an open fire with almond wood and charcoal . And you taste the woody open fire flavor in all the meat dishes! Delicious .. Highly recommended when in SF!

Amazing food spoiled a little by first impressions

By the_larb |

The food here is simply excellent. So tasty and flavoursome it’s definitely worth trying. The pork belly is out of this world. The atmosphere is good but it is quite noisy. There don’t appear to be enough washrooms for the size of place and so there was a constant queue. What spoilt it a little was the attitude of the hostesses as we arrived. Best described as snooty they did their best to make us feel unwelcome and despite ringing to confirm we could be sat early we eventually sat down late after spending time in the Irish bar next door. Such a shame but an easy thing to fix.

Nice, average & expensive chain

By GillianTune |

It was our last night in SF and having done some last minute research decided to try Rosa Akor but wish we hadn't - it was nice, average and expensive. The bar area downstairs was scruffy and could do with a makeover and the drink quality poor - we paid $45 for 2 G&T's which were not great. The food is ok but very expensive - so if you are looking for a quick and expensive japanese style dinner, then great - otherwise choose somewhere else in this wonderful city!

Excellent

By Jack H |

The food here is great. The place is very busy for lunch so be sure to make a reservation. Nice vibe. Good service. Loved the Lobster Dumplings appetizer.

Top SF Sushi place and more

By Michael Y |

Amazing sushi in SF and what a great menu overall to include a wide array of sake choices. I had the sashimi platter - excellent!

Great food!

By Allen L |

Came here for the wife's birthday. We had the omakase. Well worth the money. Left the place stuffed!! Place is very modern, and packed at times during dinner. The king crabs legs was tasty. beef melted in our mouth! The mushroom with fresh truffles and truffle oil was super rich, had to pack that to go. Overall great food, good service. Will come back soon!

One of our best food experiences in San Fran

By FunFoodFinder |

Did some google research before our trip. With the open fire cooking and amazing quality. Roka came highly rated and did not disappoint. From perfect service to amazing presentation and incredible food. this is a place I wish we had in Toronto. If you get chance make this a stop in San Fran It will not disappoint.

Excellent

By pq1 |

Dif the chefs tasting menu... 4 courses plus dessert...amazing. All the food was excellent. Would definitely return. Great service.

Just Oustanding

By Rachel M |

An absolutely taste and vision sensation. We couldn't stop laughing at finding such an awesome place to dine. Fine dining at its best with a great atmosphere. Excellent unfaultable service that was friendly. Not the cheapest, but we've also paid quite I bit more for the same!

lucked out

By Kim W |

chose this because of trip advisor rating, and was surprised to get a reservation only a few days out. Atmosphere was hip and fun with the crowd and the 6 kitchens. Sushi was very fresh, meat was flavorful. Lucky find!

Awesome party experience

By smiley1236 |

I attended a dinner event here and the food was excellent, the service great, and everything we enjoyable. We had 50 people at the event, and it was handled easily and everyone enjoyed the fixed menu and service was excellent.

Best meal of my life!

By meesh201 |

We chose this restaurant for a nice dinner out while on spring break with our teens. The meal and service surpassed all expectations I had going in. We finished every bite of the tuna tartare, edamame, scallops, California roll, Wagyu, corn, and Brussel sprouts with chocolate lava cake and cheesecake for dessert. I don’t think you could go wrong with anything on the menu.

Amazing Happy Houe

By scm1133 |

We were looking for a quick meal before heading to the airport for a red eye to the east coast. Roka was absolutely perfect! The Sunday happy hour is all evening and consists of a great menu and $1 oysters. It was the perfect amount of food (and a great price) - highly recommend it.

Business meeting private room

By Rich W |

We had a business meeting in one of the private rooms just off the main dining area. It was a nice room, able to project slides, and effective for our purposes. All the food was awesome and the sushi was especially memorable.

Beautiful presentation, excellent service

By derind805 |

The food was beautifully presented. I had a very attentive server who made great suggestions on the menu and cocktails. It was my first time trying Japanese whiskey and the cocktail was good. I enjoyed the shrimp tempura and the corn and brussel sprouts as side vegetables were delicious.

Stumbled upon ... literally

By SteveScardina |

I was heading to a Chinese restaurant I found on Trip Advisor but got a little lost following the walking directions. I literally found Roka Akor and said why not? A bit pricey but the food and service is top notch! I recommend for a special occasion. The beef tartare was excellent, not how I expected. The salmon teriyaki the best I have ever had and the asparagus very yummy. Enjoy!

Wow

By David J |

It is as good as they say. Our table wasnt ready on arrival and they could not have been more coureous and apologetic while sorting out drinks downstairs. Once seated for dinner the staff, food and wine list blew us away. Big ticket but worth a blast - top quality

Good - but pricey

By Brad B |

I went here with co-workers for dinner. While the food was good, it is very pricey. We had a selection of nagiri and maki and some edemame. All of which were tasty but not spectacular. Because of the open kitchen, it was a bit noisy. It is definitely a place where you are paying for the atmosphere.

Perfect meal and evening

By Lorene d |

Of the many restaurants all over the world it is not difficult to choose this restaurant as one of our favorite meals. The service superb, the meal incredible, beautifully plated and perfectly prepared. It will be our number one choices for San Francisco.it could not have been better. Brilliantly executed Chef's tasting.

Pricey but excellent food with friendly service

By Dneuburger |

This restaurant was recommended by the manager of a different sushi restaurant that had no openings for dinner and boy am I glad we ate here. They were able to seat us despite not having a reservation and they were friendly with excellent service. It is expensive ($350 for two with tip) but I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The sushi tacos were great and the tuna with sea urchin (uni) was outstanding. Even the Japanese cheesecake dessert was very good. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are prepared to spend money on a nice meal.

Top Shelf!!!

By Nick B |

Had a party of 8 coworkers and not only was the table accommodation perfect, but the food and service was excellent. Setting up the contract was very simple and the we blew past the minimum. I could not believe how fresh the sushi was and perfectly cooked the steak was. Being able to provide the service we got, with a large party, showed me how great they are. I highly recommend Roka for groups as well as a romantic dinner. I cannot wait to bring my wife. Oh and get the Spicy Edamame, Sashimi Selection, Unagi, Hokkaido Sea Urchin, Wagyu Filet, Soft Shell Crab Roll with Kimchi, and Warm Valhrona Chocolate Cake ;)

Fun sushi spot.

By AlbertoMay |

Try to sit in the lower level bar where it is a bit more happening. The food was ok but the ambience was really good. Great for sake and sushi, everything was good but not wow.

Get ready to splurge -- big time!

By Fabienne N |

My husband and I spent an incredible evening at Roka, tasting every possible dish we could. Beginning with beer and a selection of sakes, we indulged ourselves with sushi and appetizers, oh so good. We moved on to the waygu steak and we very, very happy with the delicate and tasty medium rare beef, In the open dining room, with fire in the kitchen, we felt like we had situated ourselves definitely within San Francisco's most trendy restaurants. Worth the price but be ready to open your wallet.

F***ING FANTASTIC!

By Jesse D |

This was by far the best meal we had in San Francisco. Our waiter, Dylan, was great! Knowledgeable about the menu and offered good recommendations. The Wagyu tartare is phenomenal. Everything including service was excellent. Can't say enough good things about this place. Wish we had one in Philly!!!

Try the Business Set Lunch!

By Celia C |

Highly recommend the Business Set Lunch for $28 Appetizer + Entree - Roast Beet Salad was delicious, followed by grilled black cod skewers I would come here again to try the other selections such as Escolar Tataki and salmon teriyaki or New York Strip The interior design is intriguing- modern yet warm

Good food but public relations could be better

The dining room was spacious with open kitchen. All four of us had the business lunch of $28 which consisted of an appetiser and a main and enjoyed it very much. My steak and yellow tail tuna were delicious. The only disappointment was my cousin whom was a regular of the restaurant asked if they could do her favourite dish of rice with mushrooms and shaved fresh truffles even though it was not on the lunch menu. The waitress checked with the chef and said yes, however, they did not have truffles so substituted it with truffle oil without checking with my cousin. My cousin told the waitress that the dish was missing shaved truffles so the manager came around and asked please give it a try and if she did not like it we would’t be charged. My cousin later told the manager it was not the same and she did not enjoy it as much. Despite his words we were charged for the dish with $6 discount. It was rather disappointing that a) they did not ask if we wanted the dish without the same ingredients and b) the manager did not keep his promise.

Amazing Experience

This is truly a dining experience! We booked the cocktail omakase and food pairing for a nearly 3 hour long taste treat. The restaurant sits only 5 people a night for this event. Our mixologist created tantalizing drinks with flair as each cocktail was paired with a tasty treat from the chef. A Japanese steak house with a contemporary attitude. Excited for a return visit.

Sushi, beef, service at atmosphere

By JVM-Milford-MI |

They have it all. The sushi was exceptional. They have a great beef selection including Kobe. (Service) was very good in the atmosphere was great. We were entertaining clients and wanted a location that included a varied menu. This place fit the bill and did not disappoint.

Surprisingly spectacular!

Roka Akor impressed me far more than I was expecting. The young ladies at the reception struck me as too unseasoned to be the “face” of such a high class, expensive restaurant. If you’re able to charge $75 per ounce of Wagyu beef, you should be able to find someone a little order or not working part-time in college to serve as permanent host. Nevertheless, after a quick happy hour beverage downstairs at the bar while awaiting others in our party, we were alerted that our table of eight was ready, and the real service commenced. For the most part, it was impeccable, although a few times during our spend-through-the-nose omakase, service felt rough. A couple more servers felt under-aged, and food delivery was not always smooth. Our Ginseng chicken soup, for example, was delivered without a plate, spilled on the table, and left for us to address. The real winner here was the food. Roka Akor made up for its at times shaky service by delivering an amazingly delectable selection of sashimi and accompanying foods that created one of the most memorable dining experiences in years. The Omakase was VERY generous. We had mistakenly ordered appetizers with our team, and in retrospect, that was totally unnecessary. We received enough food to get us rolled out the door like Pillsbury doughboys. So many highlights! The grilled pork belly, the soup, the steamed dumplings, the sashimi, the smoked trout caviar with all the trimmings, and the wagyu beef all left lasting impressions. The wagyu beef was easily among the best meats I’ve ever had, and it was by no means the best on the menu. In fact, it was the Japanese Grade A4+ Wagyu Beef from Miyazaki Prefecture – considered entry level, and yet still $32 per ounce if purchased a la carte. There were four other grades of Japanese Wagyu above it. At the high end, Roka Akor charges more per ounce than a high-end steak restaurant in Dallas charges for an entire dry aged ribeye. Great if you just won the lottery. There was also a wonderful Japanese mushroom rice pot and smartly prepared broccolini. My neighbor’s Brussel sprouts were exceptional, too. Dessert was spectacular: a selection of sorbet, wafers, fresh exotic fruit, a hot chocolate brownie with ice cream that was absolutely divine. Roka Akor wasn’t flawless, but I had no trouble ignoring its inadequacies in appreciation of a meal fit for a king.

Meh

Roka Akor has a beautiful entrance, and kind of an odd lobby. When we walked in, there were no hosts, and when they did arrive no one offered to take our coats. The restaurant is beautifully lit and laid out. There were several empty tables and not a full dining room, so I was surprised that they couldn’t accommodate adding a fifth person in our party, whom I called about in advance. Our waiter was very nice but not very clear on how to proceed with ordering sashimi family style (the way we were advised to order). Our group ended up with six individual pieces of different fish, which is fine for one person but not for family style. The salad was hard to eat with chopsticks and a mess to serve. The sweet potato robata was 6 small pieces on a plain plate. The dumplings were great. The tempura tiger prawns and calamari came with the same sweet creamy dipping sauce. I wish the waiter had corrected me when I asked if our order was good/ balanced, and feel he ought to have guided us away from one of those too similar dishes. I was astonished at the prices, the portions, and the way everything was either fried, very sweet, or super salty. We ordered dessert sampler because I wanted ginger ice cream and my friend molten chocolate cake. The person who delivered the dessert didn’t know what one of the flavors of ice cream was. It wasn’t ginger; and when I pointed this out to Two people, no one tried to rectify; aka bring us some. However, the molten chocolate cake was indeed scrumptious. It reminded me of trendy Las Vegas restaurant with elevated bar bites. Not a fine dining experience, in food nor service.

Amazing food quality, but rather expensive

By WightLight |

No doubt about it - the food is great. The quality and preparation is top quality. My only issue was that when I was there they had had no Umi left and I couldn't get that delicacy. The other problem I had was that it was slightly difficult to understand the waitress,

Totally worth the prize, good friendly service, I'd recommend the sushi, we had appetizers, miso soup, squid tempura, sushi and terriyake chicken (which was too much for us)...

Superior Japanese

Roka Akor is a modern Japanese inspired fine-dining Steakhouse. It has a great selection of Sakes and our waiter was professional, very knowledgeable and happy to explain everything to us. We had an excellent night there and enjoyed the sashimi very much. For mains we had steak and octopus with delicious sides of Brussel sprouts and sweet corn. The octopus was the only slight let down as it could have been more tender.

Amazing experience at Roka!

By Kevin S |

My wife and I had an amazing experience at Roka while visiting San Francisco. I was about to reserve a table online. I loved their feature allowing you to do a 3D tour of the restaurant and pick the specific table you wanted! No other place had a feature like this. Because of covid I was pick a corner private table down stairs in the basement. The setting was very romantic. During our dinner a couple was seated at the bar and asked if they could sit at the table next to us and the hostess said no! I loved this. They made sure each table was spread out. We did the “trust the chef” option with the wine pairing and it was amazing. The cost is high but worth it to try. Each course is different food with different wine. The wait staff was on their A game. Some of the things it included was oysters, A variety of sashimi, caviar, lobster tail, Wagyu, and some amazing desserts. Highly recommend.
