It is dirty, staff does not bother at all and food is cold and filthy. And last but not least, you pay too much for what you get.

I ordered the sirloin burger and fries. The best part of the meal were the fries. The burger was a mass of tasteless unseasoned meat. I also had to wait approx. 30 minutes. And the place was empty. To add insult to injury, I was charged an extra $2.50 for a refill of diet coke and $2for cheese on the burger (something I was not informed of in advance). I would avoid this place. There are too many great places to eat in Philadelphia.

Was right down the street from our hotel so we stopped in for lunch. Not overwhelming but good pub grub.We both enjoyed our steaks and the service was fast and friendly.

My coworker and I chose this restaurant because we were hungry and it was near to our hotel. The food was EXTREMELY bland and mediocre at best. Don't waste your time or money!

Went here because I wanted a Philly Cheesesteak - the meal itself was great - I really enjoyed the sandwich and the salad. The service however, was just not up to par. There was one waiter for the entire upstairs and he was extremely worked off his feet - running upstairs and downstairs grabbing meals with no help. He was really trying his best, and he maintained a great demeanor the whole time even when people were complaining left and right. The manager stood downstairs the entire time at the front door and didn't help. The entire time we were there, a table for 8 people remained unbussed and it took a long time to receive water. The food was good, but would I go there again? No.

Just got into town today and checked into our hotel and asked Brad our doorman of a decent place to eat. A friend of his was chatting with him and he suggested Rotten Ralph's. We walked the few blocks from our hotel and went upstairs for our meal of philly cheesesteak which of course everyone has to have when in Philadelphia. It came fairly quickly and as the guy suggested if you want good beer maybe this is one of the MANY places to go for a beer and average food. After lunch we went to Reading Terminal Market. Now there's a place with food to die for. Absolutely surprised at the number of restaurants on 5th and all the way to Rotten Ralph's farther down Chestnut. Will give Ralph's a pass next time.

The waitress was very friendly and that is the only reason for two stars. The food was terrible. I had the roast beef sandwich and it was like shoe leather and had no taste. My friend had the fish and chips and it was very greasy and bad tasting. The chicken wing appetizer was ok. I would go somewhere else to eat. I would not go back.

Great local bar near Penns Landing. Great selection of beers and other drinks. Good vibe on a Saturday night. Bill the barman was a great host.

Ended up at this bar accidentally after a ghost tour. The bar we meant to go to was literally across the street. We walked in and were kindly greeted by security who instructed us where we should be, and how we were not there. He carded us, since I was accompanied by someone who appeared to be a minor - she was not. The bar was clean, not well lit, but that was OK in terms of the proper ambiance and the music was exactly what we needed on this chili night when you know all the words and can work up a sweat singing! Five stars for that! The hot apple cider was to die for and Bartender was extremely friendly. We ended up buying a T-shirt because they were phenomenally hysterical! So happy we accidentally ended up here instead of across the street!

I found this place while exploring the neighborhood and was convinced by the wait staff to stay and taste their famous sandwiches. I had a chicken sandwich and C had the steak Philly and she said it was great. The sandwich was big enough that we took half home and had it later on when we were hungry and didn't feel like going out for dinner. The waitress was funny and welcoming but I must say that I didn't find the sandwich out of this world at all. I must say though, that their fries were fantastic!

The worst waitress I've ever had. Terrible service. Wife couldn't finish her meal. Draft beer tasted skunky. First time in my 53 years I have never left a tip. This place sucks!

I always return to this corner bar when ever I’m in the area. There are tons of places to drink between 2nd and 3rd street, Ralph’s remains a staple. Always friendly service and people you can strike up a conversation with. Stop in and grad a cold one.

Great place to have a meal. Dinner was great. Food was served hot and fast. We picked a perfect time to have dinner as it was not crowded. Bar is downstairs if you care for the bar scene while you dine and the upstairs if you don't care for the bar scene.

Cute bar, fun vibe - great blend of folk and street sweet. I had a chesterfield and all my buddies joined me there. I was like, this place isn't rotten at all. Go and find your favorite drink here.

Took a walk from my meeting and thought I would try this being it was one of the first restaurants I saw. Ordered a cheese steak sandwich which was OK. Didn't eat all of it though because it became a little overwhelming. Glad I had a beer to wash it down.

Bartender was unfriendly and even refused to serve us, after we waited to order way too long. Plough & The stars across The street is way better!!!

Food that tastes frozen even though it might not be. Service is decent, though its what you'd expect for a corner dive bar in a tourist rich area. Drinks are okay, beer is pedestrian, macro beer heavy.

We came here because I bought a certificate on restaurant.com. I had the crab cake sandwich and mozzarella sticks. Food was hot & good. Onion rings were rings not mashed up. The wife's salad was fresh and huge. She took half of it back to the B & B. Staff was pleasant.

Two words explain this establishment. "Complete Fail". So we had a restaurant dot com certificate to use and saw their menu online which looked appetizing and very well priced. Upon entering, knew this was going to be an experience. The bartender gets us a drink in a reasonable time frame and brings us a menu. Noticed prices were much higher on the menu then the website. So we order a bowl of tomato soup. She brings us out two cups without even asking us if we were splitting it. That was ok until we get the tab at the end and there is $1.50 sharing charge for sharing a bowl of soup. Soup was ok, but did have grit in it, assuming dirt from the tomatoes. Next we order the NY Strip. Not only was it a cheap piece of meat, but it was also spoiled. They also poured a cheap gravy over it, I assume to cover up the fact that they are serving spoiled meat. The mixed veggies were sliced as if they were grilled, but they were steamed and soggy and drenched with grated parm cheese. Of course this dish went back. At this point it gets very interesting. After having been served a bad meal and still hungry, we need to escape this torture, so its time to cash out. This is where we notice the $1.50 sharing charge for the bowl of soup. So, we complain to the bartender, and his response is "That's how we do it here." So they split a soup even though you don't want it split? Then he tells me to chill out. At this point he sends over the manager, Sean who has no customer service skills either. He says he is not removing the charge because this is Philly and we need to make money, and if we didn't want to pay the sharing charge we should have sent it back instead of eating it. He also mentions that he has been running the place for 20 years. That must be why they need to offer restaurant dot com certificates because he is doing such a great job managing this joint that you cant even call an establishment. He also tells us the steak we sent back could not be bad because it wouldn't have cooked as rare as it did???? Are you serious!!!! Unfortunately, we took that 1.50 out of the waiters tip, and it was well deserved for his bad attitude. So overall, this place is a complete fail and was a big disappointment as we were looking for something different. The patrons were low class, the whole building wasn't the cleanest with a terrible atmosphere, and the food was just horrible. I am sure if they continue with the horrible customer service and poor quality food, they will be out of business or under new management sooner than later.

Awesome time at this slightly more upscale divey Old City mainstay. Was awaiting the arrival of a friend from out of town so popped in for a beer. The selection was solid without being intimidating, and the service couldnt have been better. Despite it being my first time, it felt like I had been going there daily for years. The bartenders were super friendly and any of the menu items that went by looked good. I had a Lancaster Brewing Company Baked Pumpkin Ale with the glass lined with cinnamon and brown sugar (nice touch!) and then another, and then my friends arrived. The staff urged me to return later, so after hitting a few other Old City faves - Khyber Pass, Sassafras, 2nd Story - we all did head back to RR's for a last few. Again, was greeted like family and everyone had a good time. Will be back for sure. Price was right, staff was great. Thanks for a good time!

It took forever to get our drinks and when we finally got them after a 20 minute wait, we noticed they forgot to add alcohol. The waitresses brought my water after the meal was on the table and after I repeatedly asked. Wilted Italian salad with two little mozzarella balls was a joke. So sorry we stopped at the place.

I ordered a Philly steak sandwich with fries. The fries arrived cold and limp, and when I requested some hot ones the waitress BROUGHT A PAPER BOX TO RETRIEVE THE ONES ON MY PLATE to be reheated!!! In 50+ years of eating out all over the world, this is a first. The waitress was obviously embarrassed but said the cook demanded this procedure. The refried potatoes came back only slightly warmer and a good deal greasier. Bathrooms were full of graffiti and none to clean. I could go on but need I?

Many changes to this former "down & dirty" bar since the 90s. Trendy upstairs dining room with scenic views. Steamed clams, feta tomato salad & old fashioned fish & chips good for sharing. Who wouldn't' want to visit rotten Ralph's?

Great place to have lunch and people watch. We stopped on an early Sunday afternoon, and had some drinks and lite fare. Food was fine;location was great.

The food is bar food, but it was executed well. Our server was extremely nice and attentive and was able to suggest dishes to try from the menu. We sat on the street and it was very interesting and enjoyable. This is a place to go when you are hungry and want some good food, not a culinary experience. The prices were very reasonable for the neighborhood.

My wife went for the chicken sandwich with Cole slaw and fries and she thought they were excellent. I had the squash side and French Onion soup. Both were very good. The waitress was friendly and responsive.

Our family of four met some local friends here for a late lunch after we arrived in Philly. The food was REALLY good! Crab cake sandwich was delicious. Variety of Philly cheesesteak sandwiches were enjoyed by those that ordered. The turkey Reuben received a thumbs up as well. We sat upstairs which offered a nice view.

While wandering the area looking for a place to have lunch I came across Rotten Ralph’s. Not too busy, I sat near the bar. Ordered a cheesesteak and fries. A good portion and tasted good. Friendly server and the order didn’t take too long to come out. Prices very reasonable.

this was a surprise place. you go upstairs for your meal since the downstairs is a bar. It was good but my husband said that his ravoli could have been warmer.

Our group of 40 descended on this restaurant with short notice. We were allowed to order off the full menu and all the students (20) were all on one bill, but the parents were allowed to have individual checks. The food was delivered timely for most of us, no errors at our table of 10. The food was tasty and they had a huge selection of wine that was good. The staff was gracious, smiling and helpful at all times.

Stumbled onto this place by chance and glad we did. Menu has some decent healthy options beyond just bar food and we liked the interior decor of the place. I am sure it can get crowded and noisy at peak times but when we were there on a weekday for lunch, it was relaxed. The waitress was very nice and helpful.

Frozen chicken wings from your local grocer taste better than what they serve. Sandwich was just ok. Looked very dirty, very worn looking..wanted to run and wish I did. Go somewhere else.

We were staying at a nearby hotel - walked to the restaurant to have some lunch. My husband had the Philly Cheesesteak and I had a turkey club with fries. Portions were big. Both meals were very good, service was excellent! We would go back.

A very limited menu. Not very many selections of beer. Hardly any appetizers offered. Settled for the steamed shrimp to try before ordering anything else on menu. Shrimp had a bit of an iodine taste, was very pricey for two beers and a dozen shrimp. Decided to go not order an entree here. On the pier so I guess you are paying for view. The more I go to Anna Maria and Longboat Key the more I am finding out get an apartment for your stay and cook in, too many tourist trap restaurants here!

Neat place in old town Philly. Good draught beer selection. Interesting menu selections and friendly service.

Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches very good! Cute place. Service was very poor and we were the only ones in the dining area. It shouldn't take 55 minutes to get four cheesesteak sandwiches made!

Oh and the place needs a makeover!!! Service was incredibly slow and the table needed cleaning. But the cheesesteak sandwiches were better than Pat's or Geno's---what do you know???? Oh and they were a buck cheaper and came with fries and a pickle!!!!

This is one of many bars in the area but stopped in in view of to it’s prime location on the corner of Chestnut Street and 2nd Street. At the time there only a few beers available on tap which was a shame, but bar staff were nice and the windows opened up providing a good spot to people watch.

Food, philly cheesesteak was really good. Pricing and atmosphere was pleasing. Service was friendly, but not very attentive, slow.

This is a place located on Chestnut St. You had the option to eat inside or out. It was one of the few places we found still open at 3pm on a Sunday. The food was surprisingly good. The waitress was nice, but w had to wait a long time for our food.

This was my first trip to Philly... I'll be back! Rotten Ralph's is in a supper location. You can eat out side (my choice) upstairs or at the bar. Decent beer selection and excellent and affordable food.

Staying at the Sheraton Society Hill, needed a quick reasonable place for lunch. Service was great, food was better. Hot Turkey sub from real turkey (not the deli counter sliced stuff). Burger and Chicken Parm. Everyone enjoyed their meal. All fairly priced. Would definitely go there again.

Ate here on second night in Philly since it was within walking distance from where we were staying. We didn't want to eat near the bar or outside, which was way too noisy. Ended up upstairs in the small dining room area, which seemed ok. Only one other couple was there when we got there. We never saw anyone else the whole time. Food was ok. Nothing to write home about. I had the chicken quesadilla appetizer as an entree and the portion was huge. My Dad had fish & chips, which looked very greasy. Our waiter was ok, but kept "hovering" all around us as we were the only people eating which was a bit irritating. All in all, there are better places to eat on this side of town in my opinion.

Great Happy Hour, service with a smile and cold drinks. Owner was present and is vested in making guests happy. We stopped here after leaving Independence Hall to have a Happy Hour toast. Glad we came by - drinks super cheap and open air feeling on a warm summer day.

I recently stopped in here while in town for a conference. I had been in here before and left completely dissatisfied but decided to give it another try. The previous time i left when the bartender shut off a song I had played on their Touch Tunes system. She said it was inappropriate. Well, then don't put it in your system if you feel that way. Lost my money. So, this time, it was more of the same. The young male bartender acted like we were an annoyance rather than someone whose livelihood depends on tips. The drink I ordered was a top shelf vodka mixed drink. It was $8.50. That's not bad for top shelf vodka had the drink not been in a glass about the size of a large shotglass and had it actually had some top shelf vodka in it. Last trip in here for me.

Came here for drinks. Plenty of choice. Nice atmosphere, food menu looked okay but we didn't eat here.

Located on a busy little corner in the Old City. Bar downstairs and the restaurant is upstairs. We had the Philly Cheesesteak and it was ..... perfect. Side salad instead of fries. Glass of sangria.

I really enjoyed my lunch at the bar here at Rotten Ralph's. The waitress was very friendly as well as the locals sitting at the bar. Very cool vibe, and they have a killer cheesesteak. They're cheap, convenient, and fast. They have an upstairs area where it is a more family restaurant style. But I enjoyed the bar. There is a lot of cool memorabilia up on the walls throughout rotten Ralph's that really gives it history. I would reccomend this joint to anyone, couple, or group looking to have a quick, yummy bite and beer, and enjoy the vibe. Great place in Old City/Center City, and I will be here again when I'm back in philadelphia! -Ralph

Had the displeasure of eating in this place. There were four of us eating and I ordered the buffalo chicked Philly style sandwich. It was aweful and inedible. It was smothered way too much in their foul tasting buffalo sauce! Imagine taking an entire jar of mustard and dumping the contents in one sandwich and you get the idea! We told the waitress there was way too much sauce on the sandwich and she said “ that’s how we do it it here” I asked her if she would take it back and if we could order something else? Her response was rather snippy: “ Only a manager can do that!”. Ok, May I speak to the manager? “I’m the manager today but I’m not authorized to take anything off the bill” Huh? 🧐 Ok, can we order something else and get it quickly then? “There are a lot of people here so it’s going to be awhile!” There were only 6 other people in the place! After sharing the other three entrees between the 4 of us, we paid our bill and left. The other three sandwiches were certainly not as bad as their foul Buffalo Chicken Philly Sandwich, but they were not that great either!

I was walking down 2nd street when my boyfriend and I decided to stop and have a beer. It was during happy hour, which has great beers starting at $2.75. It was nice to sit outside and urging the evening hours. Our waitress Liz was very friendly and attentive. I do recommend this place to anyone who visits. Not crowded at all.

The food is good enough. Please note that there will be an automatic gratuity of 20% on the bill. Nothing that the restaurant flies with - in our case it was $25

I would maybe recommend this bar/grill for lunch or light meals. It appeared to be clean but there was a mouse (or rat trap) by the stove upstairs. Something that you don't want to see when eating.

If you want a place to chill, have a couple beers and eat to your heart’s content then this is your place. The bartender and our waiter were both friendly and knew the town well.

A bunch of us were enjoying a bar crawl through old city for a birthday. Every bar we went in to welcomed us... Not to mention didn't want us to leave cause of the money we spent. We walked in to this place and within seconds the bartender kept telling his friends at the end of the bar how much he hates his job and how he wished we'd all leave. Good job buddy you got your wish. This wasn't my first time there either having a bad time. Staff is miserable which probably is the owners or managements fault

A good beer selection and very tempting BBQ ribs. The ribs were nice but I couldn't finish them. We weren't too keen on the chips/fries though, too much like oven chips.

cozy place to pop in for a drink and a snack. super nice bartender. drinks were reasonably priced. location great in old town

We had dinner here on our last night in Philadelphia and sat outside on a pleasant evening. The food was good but interrupted by a noisy lady nearby who was expressing her views quite forcefully and loudly. She was asked to leave. However we still enjoyed our meal.

We really enjoyed our trips to Ralphs You can have drinks and food all day and very late into the night. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We tried the sampler appetizer and it was Great. There hamburger's looked and smelled extremely good.

Stopped in because they didn't have a wait for a table over 4th of July weekend. Cheese stakes were ok, service was quick but much better options are around.

We were looking for a burger place and finally found this after walking a few blocks. It's small and seems to be more of a bar, but the lunch was very good. We had burgers with bacon on top. I skipped the fries and got a side salad and it was the biggest side salad I've ever had. It made the meal really great. I would go back here and eat again if I could.

We both ordered cheesesteak sandwiches. They came with onions and fries, and I added peppers. They were tasty, my beer was cold. Couldn't ask for more

Well, the name "Rotten" fits. We had a terrible visit here. We were looking forward to having a couple of drinks and something to eat. We sat outside but the table they placed us at was sort of removed from the other tables by itself on the other side of the stairs into the restaurant. It took at least 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order, then another 10-15 minutes before we got our drinks. We noticed that everyone sitting in the other group of tables were getting much better service. We had to have someone track our waitress down to place a food order. Once placed it took 45+ minutes to get our food. We only orders cheese steaks - nothing complicated. The staff never check on us and we had to track someone down everytime we wanted something. Because the service was so slow we only had two drinks so they lost out on a bigger check. The bathroom inside was filthy and the floors very sticky. I am sure that the bar at night is crazy but you would think they would clean up at some point. I recommend you find another place to eat in Philly - there are certainly plenty of places to choose from.

Went back three times for the Tomato-Basil Soup. Also had the half rack of ribs, which was mouth-watering and the meat was so tender it fell off the bone. Not expensive, either, especially given its location. You can either eat upstairs in the restaurant, on the terrace (if the weather is nice), or in the bar, which is downstairs. I recommended it to everybody I talked to while at an academic conference.

We stopped here for our first cheesesteak at Philly and were greatly disappointed. Not very big or filled with steak. My wife and I both foun hair in our subs. We didn't say anything because we didn't like the food anyway. So we just quit eating it, paid the bill and moved on. We thought something was weird when it was lunch time and this place was pretty much empty. Walk down the street a bit further and eat some great food!! I don't want to give names of places on here but look at my other reviews!! Good food is down the street!

Looking for somewhere reasonable priced to eat on my first night I wandered in here. Bloke on the desk seemed convinced I was there for an interview told me to go sit by the bar with the rest of them - I explained I wanted a table not an interview but he didn't seem to get it until I was rescued by another lady who took me upstairs. There was some sort of meeting going on at the back and one other family. Menu wasn't huge but that didn't worry me, there was enough choice. I ordered a burger - and was asked how I wanted it which I consider a good sign! Food was decent and tasty and pretty cheap. Service was fairly friendly, it was pretty quiet and I left happy. Not high end, not amazing but for good simple food it was fine. And they had a happy hour most nights.

A recent trip to Philly gave me a chance to take in a few sights and some food. After a few hours of touring (Liberty Bell, etc.), I grabbed a quick sandwich at Rotten Ralphs. I was solo, so I ate the sandwich at the bar and had a local brew to complement it. The bartender was courteous, and it only took about 15 minutes to get my sandwich. The sandwich was huge, and delicious. I was given various options (peppers, mushrooms) on my sandwich, to which I availed myself. I got out of there with tip for around $20, which was reasonable. My only complaint I that there were some younger patrons (in their 20s) who were quite drunk and loud. They compromised my experience a bit, but fortunately they left in a cab after a few minutes. It was the middle of the afternoon, so that left the bar area pretty empty, which suited me fine. The restaurant is situated on a corner, so you get a good sense of historic Philly as you eat.

This is a cute little bar and restaurant in the Independence Mall area of Philadelphia. Our server was very nice, and the cheesesteaks were delicious and fairly priced!

Despite the good location this plays is not recommended. Waiters are careless & slow even though business is slow at 5am when I was there. Hate to know what will happen if it's busy. I don't care how good your product is if your courier messes it up. Not recommended.

Looking for a quick bite and wanting a Philly Cheesesteak it was conveniently located across from Passport agency. We ordered cheesesteaks...they were a little pricey $10-$16(depending on the add-ons). Sandwiches were good though...Service was excellent!!!

Completely unprofessional staff that want to act like you are an inconvenience. Don’t waste your time here. Danna was particularly unpleasant to interact with.

Food was fine but just average, bar crowd was a little seedy, if bad language offends, don't sit at the bar. The bar maid was friendly and had a nice selection of beers

Dive bar, cheap beers, open late, good stop in for a quick one or two then head down the road to the next.

went for lunch at 12.30 p.m. No room downstairs (only a small place) so went upstairs. After taking our order, nothing had arrived after 25 minutes, so we left

My husband and I went here for lunch and sat outside. We had the worst possible service. Everything took a long time including getting water, getting napkins and utensils etc. We had to ask the waiter over and over for things. We both ordered flat breads- not delicious at all. I had the margarita flatbread. The bread was not crisp and it was certainly not a margarita. It was basically a pizza with fairly sweet canned tasting sauce. After eating a small piece I asked the waiter for salt, pepper, and some hot sauce. It never came. By the time I got a hold of the waiter again- 10 minutes later- and said where are my condiments? He had forgotten them. The flatbread was cold and I said I didn't want it and I didn't think I should have to pay for it. He said "sorry we've been slammed and we won't take anything off the bill". First of all they weren't busy. Secondly I don't care if they were "slammed" they should have better service. Avoid this place because both the food and service stink.

Their corned beef was amazing. Home made and very tasty. The BLT was awesome. Loved their Bloody Mary and coffee. The atmosphere and bartender was great. Next time we are in Philly, we will definitely come back here. So many options on their brunch menu!

Stopped in for snacks and drinks. We had a pretty big crew and the accommodated us nicely. Fun little local place!

Okay service. Restaurant was hot and not appealing on a hot, summer day in Philly. Portions were large. Food was alright. Ordered the Veal Meatball Sub and nothing out of the ordinary. Heavy on the cheese on the toasted subs.

This restaurant was close to our hotel so we ate here twice because it was convenient. The first time was ok but the second time we had a little bit of a hassle. The waiter said our ticket was dropped in the kitchen so our dinner was delayed. Since he wasn't terribly conscientious, it was either that or he forgot to turn it in. Food both times was average.

Love this place - an institution in Philly..great jukebox and karaoke on Monday nights..not the fanciest place in Philly but a great bar with great food and great people

Rotten Ralph's is located on the corner of Chestnut Street and makes a good impression from the outside with table and chairs outside to eat pub style meals, However, Rotten Ralph's on the inside not so appealing a bit of a scruffy dark and noisy local bar. When we came to Philadelphia we had to try an original Philly Cheesesteak which is available on most menus in Philadelphia. we decided to eat at Rotten Ralph's. On the ground floor there is a fully equipped bar, while a staircase at the end of the bar leads upstairs to the restaurant area, Which was a bit basic cafe style diner with basic table and chairs but clean enough, you have a very nice view down onto the street below. We both had the Philly cheesesteak which was nice and juicy but not many French fries came with it. Our son had the Anthony Jr chicken Parma which he enjoyed. He had the steak cut fries which were much nicer than the string cut fries. Staff friendly but the servers shorts where a bit short. Ladies toilets were upstairs but the men’s toilets were downstairs at the end of the bar and were used by both male and female bar guests.

Great sandwiches, but slow service. It is a bar.music was loud and a customer was too. staff was friendly

Went here with my wife and two friends for a late dinner. Friends said this was good, basic pub food with good cheese steaks. It was late, about 10:30pm, and we just wanted a cool place (as in somewhere with air conditioning)to eat and have a drink. The main dining area is on the second floor. Our server was prompt in taking drink orders and then coming back to take food orders. Three of us ordered cheese steaks and one ordered the French onion soup and sweet potato fries. The server took the entire order without writing it down. The food came out promptly and was exactly as ordered. The meat on the sandwhich is finely chopped and the cheese, of course I had to have Cheeze Whiz, was slathered on the perfectly textured bun before the meat was put in. It was what one would expect in a cheese steak that isn't trying to be something else frou-frou. It came with some fries and a pickle. The others that had the cheese steak had it before and enjoyed it. The onion soup was reportedly OK and the sweet potato fries good. I rate this as average as it was nothing special but didn't disappoint. The server was polite and attentive and the food was decent. I would go back for a late night/basic dinner. For a special dinner there are other places within close proximity.

This was the worst food we have ever ate or seen. The food was so bad that we actually sent back 4 plates. The manager, who is also the bartender, was somewhat bewildered by our statements and almost looked thru the salads to see if the leaves were indeed rotten (just like Ralph ;( ) This is a poop hole that should not be allowed to serve any food. Least of all Philly cheese steaks, it gives philly a bad name

My husband and brother stopped in to kill time waiting for me, but we all stopped by each day during our trip because this is a local hang out, staff were hpalways helpful, and it has character.

We went walking around looking and hoping to find a restraunt that we both wanted to eat. Hubby is not adventurous and would eat roast beef sandwich with whole kernel corn and green beans everyday with no complaints. He hates restraunts due to high prices for ok food. We don't drink so the bars mean nothing to us. Me, I'm more adventurous and don't mind higher prices. So finding a place to meet our needs is hard. So looking at the menue we both saw something and the prices were in the middle. The bar is on the bottom, there is seating outside, and the actual restraunt part is upstairs. Music is blaring from the bar so we left but then saw the enter sign and stairs. I liked upstairs. We got served right away but holy cow it took a very very long time for our food to be served. Glad we had nothing planned. I got the crab cakes and hubby got chicken ceasar salad. I loved my food once I got it. Hubby said his was good too. So it served our purpose but I'd not really recommend it. Sounds like those in the bar area were having a good time though.

I tried my first Philly Cheesesteak and my husband had the hot beef sandwich. Both meals were good, not as many fries as we'd have liked but it was really tasty. Great view of historic buildings from our second store window.

My first visit was not what I would have liked at Rotten Ralph's. I wanted a beer after a long walk looking at historical sites in old Philadelphia. It was a lovely evening so we sat outside. Nice sidewalk tables were a plus in busy area. I ordered lobster bisque soup and a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The soup was very runny and not taste. Plus doesn't lobster soup include at least a smidgeon of lobster? My didn't. She sandwich was bland as well. Anyways first visits a not a true measure of any establishment. Just sad mine first was not good. Hate to pile on but the prices were steep considering the quality received.

Horrible experience, horrible food, I mean how can somebody screw up fries with cheese, well they manage to do that. Horribleee.

Good place for lunch (don't know about dinner)....enjoyed eating upstairs & was taken by the neat lace curtains....

Enjoyed lunch and a brew at Rotten Ralph’s after a tour of the Museum of the American Revolution. Friendly staff with good bar food. My wife and grandson went with burgers which they said were quite good. At the suggestion of our waitress I tried the buffalo chicken flatbread. It was very tasty.

Located on the edge of Old City near the foot bridge to Penn's Landing, Rottten Ralph's is a multi-level bar/restaurant with bar and sidewalk seating on the ground floor and dining on the 2nd floor. The bar/restaurant was clean. The servers are busy, especially when they have to carry the orders up the stairs to the 2nd floor. Our waitress was apologetic for the slowness of the kitchen staff. She was quick to re-fill our drinks while she ran her butt off bringing food up from the kitchen to the 2nd floor. The downside: The kitchen staff. The cooks messed up 4 out f 5 of our orders. I suspect that's the "norm" because the waitress didn't hesitate to show us the order ticket noting she put into the kitchen noting it wasn't her fault. Overall, the food was OK and the service was good. Kitchen staff needs to step up their game and management needs to get the dumb-waiter working properly.

I visit Philly periodically from Louisiana and this is a great place for a quick bite or a drink. Alex is a great guy and a credit to this town.

The food was good and the staff especially friendly. We enjoyed dinner in this second floor dining area near the historic district.

Had a late lunch here, sat at the bar. Very nice bartender and quick pleasant service. Nice house salad and really really good french onion soup, husband had the wing dings and he said they were good but just a little on the crispy side. Very enjoyable experience.

I went there with a friend and we ordered the same thing, cheese stakes with fries. They are delicious. The meat doesn't taste like any spices or condiments, it just tastes like real good quality meat.

This is one of my favorite old town places to visit. Lots of cold beer to chose from. Good food to eat. And it’s small. Has all the elements that make it a great hole in the wall/dive bar place. I love because I don’t expect much, but I am always impressed. Enjoy Rotten Ralph’s!

It’s a small whole in the wall with outdoor seating. We went for dinner and drinks. The waitress acted like we weren’t even there. She kept checking her phone and talking to people at the bar. The was pretty good. But in that area there many better places to eat.

Stopped for a quick bite. The place was empty, both bar & restaurant, on a Sunday night. So service was great & fast. Sandwich selection was okay and the food was decent. I'll go back when I'm in the neighborhood.

I know for sure that GOD eats here because the food was just heavenly. OMG... I very, very, seldom rave over a meal but I ordered the Italian Sausage Grinder and all I can say is It was absolutely out of this world. The staff was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable of the downtown area. I love the outdoor cafe seating area although I ate upstairs due to the windy weather. The choice of music was fantastic. All my favorites, Billy Joel, Elton John, Frank Sinatra... Wonderful experience. Now in my top 5 best places to eat.

Sat at the bar for 10 minutes without being served with a dozen people in there and two servers. Just walked out and spent my money down at Glory Beer Bar and Kitchen.

After working all day, I took the very short walk from my hotel to Rotten Ralph's for a cold beer and some dinner. I ordered the Chicken Parm and a Coor's light draught. When the waitress served my meal, I almost fainted. These plates are huge and very well presented. The chicken was excellent being drenched in cheese and served over pasta and sauce. It included 2 large pieces of garlic bread that was also delicious. I wasn't sure I would finish all of it, but when it's that good and going down that well, you just don't stop. Beer, meal, tax and tip...$20 based on 18% gratuity. Can't be beat.

Been here before and thought enough of it to come back. A compact bar place with a good-looking menu, but I was in Philadelphia, so it was going to be a steak ("with" and with provolone). Was not disappointed. Noise level was pretty high, but that's typical for a bar.

We had a very good meal here. Wait staff was super - helping us with ordering the local perogies which we wanted to try. They were just what we wanted for a lighter fare dining. Others had the ravioli and sausage meatballs which were also good. Wine list is limited but adequate.

Great food, great atmosphere, and friendly waitpeople. Wonderful sandwiches and salads. Rotten Ralph's has it all! Bought a Rotten Ralph's t-shirt to wear back home, advertise the place, and remind myself of the good food & fun atmosphere! We were caught in Philly during a snow storm, and we had a warm and cozzy feeling having dinner at Rotten Ralph's!

Unbelievably good food! Looks like a little dive bar from the outside but can see the upstairs restaurant from the street so we gave it a try. Excellent service, friendly staff and reasonable prices (read incredible prices for this area!!). Highly recommend the clams cooked in wine sauce but everything we had was great. No complaints here!

How can you not stop at a place called Rotten Ralphs?! We were craving Philly cheesesteaks, which is kinda what you do when you're in Philly... Not sorry we stopped here. So much character! The staff was super friendly and the outdoor seating was great. Oh, and the cheesesteak was just what the doctor ordered. Glad we made this impromptu decision!

I loved this place so much I went twice while I was visiting. Restaraunt This place is not much to look at outside, and inside it is cramped...but it has atmosphere. I sat at the bar both times, which is something that you pretty much have to do, unless you want to go out back where the action is not.... Food The food was good....not great, but good and flavourful. They had a killer draught beer selection. Service The service was very good, with the staff keeping everyone's drinks full, and food served promptly. There was not a ton of room behind the bar but the staff all seemed to get along well, and they appeared to be having lots of fun Loved this place and it is worthwhile checking out

We had a blast beginning of September 2014 at Rotten Ralph's . Bathroom clean enough...which is rather important in a bar! Waitresses were kind and helpful. And the karaoke staff was just great and entertainning! Great evening! Thanks to you guys!

Well I visited the restaurant today the food was rotten and the price of the food was over priced !!! I will not recommend this restaurant to nobody the service was even rotten! The name of the restaurant go good with the service and the food!

Visited Rotten Ralph’s this weekend with a group of 4. Ordered 3 alcoholic drinks for the adults at the bar, asked the 13 year old if he would like a coke to which he replied “no”. Bartender poured and charged us for the coke, poured me a stoli and soda when I ordered absolut soda splash of cran. Friend of mine ordered vodka Red Bull and she, also received a vodka soda for some reason. Not sure why 3/4 drinks ordered would be totally wrong. Don’t try hunting them down to request them to fix their mistake because there is no chance they will be available- two other patrons almost missed an Uber trying to flag them down to pay their tab. This bar is teeny tiny why do two ladies have a hard time keeping up!!

Small bar that if you didnt know where you were going you might miss it. Had a fantastic bartender who sang karaoke with us. Cheap drinks compared to where i live.

This is a good place to stop and get a bite to eat and have a beverage. The staff is very accommodating and they do not rush you to hurry up and finish. The drinks and the food were good. The pricing is average. It is in a good location. I would give this place and overall average score.

Just happen to walk upon this bar while walking to Betsy Ross’ house. We stopped in for a drink. We got fried pickles and cheesesteak egg rolls. They were both really good. Tried the raspberry skyline beer. Definitely worth a try. Now to figure out to get it back home! Customers were friendly and so was the bartender.

Seating is available on the upper level if you do not want to sit outside on the sidewalk. I would recommend sitting inside since is a substatntial amount of foot traffic on Chestnut street; this may disturb your eating. The tables and chairs are literally on the sidewalk. I ordered the cheese steak and it was very flavorful. I really enjoyed it, but was disappointed by the small amount of steak fries and they were bewteen room temperature and cold. The bad part of the visit was the very slow service. It took over 1/2 hour (maybe longer) to get food and one person in our party never received his order. We were a party of four and three of us finished our sandwiches and the fourth person's food never arrived. He ended up canceling his order after speaking to a manager since the server did not want to cancel his order. He only ordered a salad and it never arrived. I would give them a second chance based on the good cheese steak.

Great location in the old city. The decor is not fancy but you need to try it Nice people in there, and great food ! We had the steamed clams ( delicious) And the cheesesteak which was excellent

This was a last minute place to eat dinner on a Friday night. The waitress said the Roast Beef was one of the specialities, so I chose it, to find out that they were out of Beef; Friday night at 7:00. Food was fine, had a great Mango Mojoto. Would recommend for a good place to eat, don't think we'll go again, didn't have anything that we need to go back for.

We stopped in here on our walk back from the old city landmarks, and it was very reasonably priced for the area. We had some great Philly cheese steak sandwiches which were not greasy (yum!) and some side salads and drinks. Though this wasn't exactly a fancy restaurant, the bar was hopping on a Friday night for its size, and we were looking for something a little less expensive than Devon's or the City Tavern. Our waitress was a sweetheart, and we sat upstairs and were able to people watch since the restaurant is on the corner of an intersection. It was exactly what we're looking for on a low key Saturday night!

Nice place to do some peoplewatching while enjoying a cold beer in the shade of parasol. Friendly staff recommending beer we enjoyed

The experience started off fine. It was a really hot day and the restaurant didn't have any air conditioning just some fans. We were a group of 4. 3 of which wanted to order the cheesesteaks. It was when the food came that the whole experience turned poor. The kitchen messed up our order and swapped over 3 of the sides so 3 of our meals were incorrect. They offered us 20% off for the mess up and we just accepted that. When it came to payment we got 2 seperate bills- with only 1 bill having the 20% off. I then asked why the other half of my group didnt get this discount and the waitress explained that only my meal was the one messed up (as the fries I asked for instead of salad would have taken 10 more minutes to cook compared to just giving me a salad). We were then very unhappy about this as 3 of the meals came out with the incorrect sides asked for. On top of this they lost my friends credit card which took 40 minutes to get back (no idea what happened then). My friends then asked to leave and that the service was very disappointing, where the manager then offered them 20% off. This place was a joke and I would not recommend. The food was just not worth all the disorganisation. Save yourself the time and find somewhere else.

Great location if walking historic district. Service was quick and friendly. Philly steak sandwich was great as was the chili, Prices are good for the city.

I went for a light dinner - a salad and wine. I had difficulty getting waited on, the salad came out before the wine, and then I had trouble getting my ticket. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

When for a quick lunch in Philadelphia. My 12 year old wanted hamburger & fries. Glad we tried this restaurant. Lots to choice from soup, appetizers, salads flatbread sandwiches and lots of hot sandwiches. There is also outdoor seating and a bar. Service was good for a weekday. The seating is a few steps up from the bar.Tried the hot roast beef dip, chicken parmigiana & of the very large hamburger. The food was all large portions.

On monday nights the best place to go for karaoke is Rotten Ralphs The DJ Dr Thunder sings and encourages group singing . There is no cost for karaoke. I had for dinner a grilled chicken wrap which was the best wrap I have ever had. Their prices are reasonable. Hoowever, they do open the doors part way for tables outside so it can get chilly in colder weather

Rotten Ralph's is a fun bar around the corner from our hotel. It is crammed with memorabilia and patrons, many we were told were regulars.

Good location in the Old City amongst a lot of other bars and restaurants. Good menu with a range of options; even has more than one veggie option which makes a change.

Our kids loved the Rotten Ralph stories so we were attracted to this pub with outdoor seating. Was rather busy and slow, but we were in no hurry so enjoyed the break

Great no pressure restaurant, cheese steak really good, staff was awesome especially Steph!!!! Visited Rotten Ralphs more than once. Enjoyed sitting outside and relaxing after a day of sightseeing!

Loved this place! Service was great and the food wasn't bad either! Went with my college friends before a concert at Pennslanding. Definitely a good spot to hit for happy hour. Great place to hang out with friends I don't know if I would go with kids or for a nice dinner.

Major name faux pas aside I would say overall a decent cheesesteak sandwich and not a terrible price. Service was super slow and food took a while. I would not rush back but it was pretty good.

While we were visiting Philadelphia, we stopped here for dinner. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was average and the prices werent bad either.

We were there for a private event and ordered dinners. Two of us had the eggplant parm. The sauce was watery and the pasta overcooked. The eggplant itself was not bad, just okay. The service was bad. Our server had a nasty attitude and seemed bothered that we were there. With all the other great restaurants around here, (like the Plough and Stars), I wouldn't go here again.

This place was recommended by a tour guide to us as his favorite cheesesteak in town. It was ok, but I have done better in North Carolina so I cannot go too high on this one. It is a nice little bar and it is very near the historic area. I would say it is a better place to grab a beer and watch a game.

Crab cakes tasted like meat came strait from the can. Very fishy and chewey. Waitress spent her time watching TV and yawning, had to walk up to her and hand her back the check.

I've travelled to Philly many times and make it a point to stop by for a beer and cheese steak sandwich.

Food was very good and the server was very friendly and attentive which was not something we were expecting.

Twenty years ago, this was a dive, but now with two classy museums nearby, it's getting its own touch of class. Sure, there are TVs facing the bar and permanent guests at the bar who will share opinions, but there is also a yuppie twist --- and lots of out of town guests. Drink and food prices are completely normal; cheap vs NYC but just middle value for PHL.

Stopped here for happy hour. Drinks were not that cheap even for happy hour. The 1/2 priced apps are terrible. Nice area outside to sit, but don't make this your main stop.

The food came out cold, and it took over an hour and 15 minutes to come out. What was warm was just mediocre. Service was way too slow, and they weren't very busy.

We stopped in here for a quick beer outside while walking to Penn's Landing. There was a waitress there that was so sweet that I had to do a quick review. Very small but two floors and everyone walking by said - we'll end up there later....I think a great spot for the area.

Stopped here for lunch after just arriving in Phily. Had held off on our tour from having a Phily cheesesteak sandwich until we arrive in Phily. Pleased we did, it was great. Exactly what we hoped for. We sat on the street and watched the world go by. A great meal, though the service seemed a little slow.

We were the only people in the place and it took 15 min to get a cold drink. It was hot and we had just come from the airport. Totally slow service , basically all over Philly, I thought Florida was bad but it was just like We'll get to ya when we feel like it. Food was acceptable but nothing to write home about.

Even portions are generous and service is attentive, flavor was (very) disappointingly regular. Far and away from Irish pubs experience.

We didn't have much time before our concert, and needed to grab a quick dinner. I ordered the cheese steak sandwich with a side salad. My husband ordered a burger. My husband said his was "ok". But mine was delicious. The salad had all fresh ingrediences and the cheesesteak was awesome. Service was a little slow, so make sure you allow some time. But I would go back.

Food was good and service was good, and the beer was cold. The overall price is very reasonable. There is ample outdoor seating. and looked like lots of indoor tables as well.

The wife and where staying down the street from Ralph's. This was a pleasant surprise for us. The menu was diverse so we had good choices. The chicken tenders where very good. You can meet locals as well as other tourist. This is a good place to relax after all of the walking and tours within the area. Look for accommodation in that area. This is a great location for the tours you and the family want to see.

saw this restaurant and decided to stop in and have dinner before I went to a show at the Ritz. Server was very attentive and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed my French onion soup and reuben.

I was looking for a spot in Old City where I could get a good cheesesteak without traveling to the Passyunk Avenue tourist traps. I found a great cheesesteak at Rotten Ralph's. It's a bar atmosphere, but they don't stint on the cheesesteak. It's on a traditional Philly cheesesteak roll, topped with delicious provolone.

We came in here on the recommendation of a friend and are so glad we did. It's an easy-going place with a great vibe. We had a pretty good cheesesteak, a few good beers, and even a couple shots while here. The service was pretty good - friendly and efficient. Great place...glad we stopped by!

My wife and I ate there for lunch on a Sunday during a group visit to Philadelphia to a nearby museum. This restaurant was on a list of restaurants with discounts/rewards. She says her Cobb Salad was excellent. My "chicken cheesesteak sandwich" was a little weird but good. We seated ourselves at a sidewalk table rather than going to the upstairs dining room because the weather was great. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and prices were reasonable.

Stopped here for lunch after visiting the passport office. It was pretty much empty and the service was extremely slow. My husband had the cheese steak- very mediocre- wouldn't order again. I had the salad- which was awful. They serve it on a flat dinner plate so you can't even mix the dressing in. The tomatoes were not ripe- everything in it was tasteless. Wish we had gone next door to the Mexican place. Do not go here.

Trying to be funny, Rotten Ralph's advertise in their window "this place is an island of mediocrity in a sea of great restaurants and bars **. they sell shirts . Well they lived up to it...... Messed up our order, out of things we wanted, slow service. We ended up not eating there after drinks. We found great service and food nextdoor at lucha cartel.

We sat outside with our puppy and it was nice. Know that the road is pretty close so at times a little loud. The drinks were really cold on a hot day. The wait staff were all friendly and very helpful. We enjoyed the port tenderloin sandwich a lot but the clams and mussels were not so hot. The other sandwiches we saw come out seemed like they would be really good as well.

Nice bar tender, simply didn't seem engaged. Asked about Happy Hour specials, could not answer. I felt that I overpaid. Felt bad for her, she simply was not engaged. Makes me not care to go back. Prevously been there and felt wlecomed.

Enjoyed the dive bar atmosphere on two floors with circular stair case to the top. I recommend this for a beer and a stopover! We also enjoyed watching the hockey game here.

My husband and i split a cheesesteak at the bar. It was fantastic! The bar was a bit dirty, but it's bar. It's not the Four Seasons. They had a good selection of beer and the bartender was nice. For two beers and a cheesesteak it was $20, which wasn't too bad.

Came for lunch on a lovely Sunday in the winter. Food was passable; service was abysmal. Everyone was waiting. The staff seemed to be incompetent, not overworked. Give it a miss.

Stopped here with some friends for a couple of drinks, and I was quite happy with the place. Despite the hustle and bustle outside on the street, we were still able to belly up to the bar and have a few. Good beer, good company, and good atmosphere.

Really enjoyed a visit to Rotten Ralph's. Had lunch upstairs and enjoyed an excellent mozarella salad and excellent fries. The staff were attentive and friendly. a really chilled atmosphere and experience on a blistering hot day. My friend had a Philly cheese-steak and really enjoyed it.

This bar prepares some delicious food made to order. This is a small corner bar whose sitting area triples (weather permitting) with outdoor seating. We liked this place so much we went their twice in a 5 days trip to Philadelphia. This is a very casual bar.

We dined upstairs and found this to be a nice get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city. Décor was nice and the food was very good. I wanted to try a Philly Steak sandwich and I found theirs very tasty. My husband had a burger and it too was very good. Our only complaint about this restaurant was the waitress throwing the dirty dishes into a container...it sounded like she was smashing them. We were sitting near the area she was doing this and it was a little annoying. She was very friendly and I don't think she realized how bad that sounded. All in all we were pleased.

We had a very late-night dinner here and left satisfied. We each had salads that had nice greens and vegetables. I had a veggie wrap and onion rings which really hit the spot. My partner had the Philly Cheesesteak and raved about it (he put aside half to take home but ended up eating the whole thing). They also have a large draft beer selection with different size options. Our waiter was very nice and the food came out fast. Casual but worth checking out!

Total no frills place to go have a beer. Place got packed when football started. I didn’t care for the draft beer but that could be me. Prices a bit much for where you are. Must be the rent pushing prices.

After a long wet journey into Philadelphia we just wanted to find shelter and food asap. We went into rotten Ralph's, got the impression immediately it was more of a tourist restaurant than anything but the menu looked good and prices were reasonable so we went in. Our waitress was friendly enough, we decided to sit upstairs out the way of the bar so it would be a little quieter. She took our order and let us know about the happy hour offers. Food arrived quickly and was really tasty and reasonably priced. There wasn't anything that really stood out to make it great, but they were friendly and the food was good so not much else to say!

We were sooooo hungry, and were happy to find a table outside. Very basic but super nice waitress...inside was super dated...
We were robbed!!!
The service was extremely bad and we were robbed by them. They charged us for drinks that we ordered but they never brought and they ended up calling the police... When we agreed to pay the whole tab and have the drinks they charged us for but didn't bring, the manager gave the order not to give them to us... Completely unacceptable!!! They should close and revoke their license!!!
