A nice reward for climbing the hill

By oregonpoppa |

I've been staying at the SF Union Square Marriott for the past several days, wanting to have breakfast at Roxanne's, but deterred by the steep one block climb. After walking all over town for three days I finally felt like taking on the challenge. And it paid off! I was seated right away in a small booth in the back of the restaurant. I had to sit a little on a slant because I couldn't get my right leg around the table leg, but it was comfortably OK. I had brick wall next to my shoulder, but a good view of the restaurant and the passing cable cars and interesting passers by. I ordered the pictured "Joey's Scramble" that included eggs, spinach, bacon, provolone and salsa. It was as good as it looks. Service from multiple servers kept my coffee cup full and me happy. Going back down the hill was trickier than the climb up though.

*Sack warning* Nice but v expensive food.

By SMaskell |

overcharge warning - our bill with mandatory tip was $116 but they charged $136 to my card. After i complained we had a fiasco situation where they tried to refund the $116 - after a stressful 10 - 15 min back and forth that included a conversation with my bank i was told they had refunded my bill and i should leave. Needless to say i still paid $136. Either the software they are using to manage the covers is defective or it’s a scam. Judging by other reviews here it’s a scam and they prey on foreign tourists. Shame as food was nice.

Soggy Salad

By LateStart01 |

I went for a light dinner after a day of flying. I just wanted a salad and a glass of wine. The salad was so sad. The greens were all soggy and soaked in a very thin ranch-type dressing that was supposed to be blue cheese, but definitely was not. Not much on the salad. The turkey was a kind of pressed lunch meat thing tasteless avocado. I eat a lot of salads and oof!this was bad, about the worst I have ever had. Maybe the pasta or sandwiches would be better. Don't go if you are looking for salad.

Good food fast!

By kbetanco |

Had breakfast here one morning and they squeezed us in and served us quickly, which we appreciated. The food was good and so was the service. You won't be sorry eating here.

Lovely small cafe

By Steve C |

Went here for breakfast a few times and once for dinner. Not a huge menu but plenty of choices to suit different dietary requirements. The staff were very friendly.

Good enough to go back twice

By HaydnB |

Roxanne’s Café was a short distance from our hotel and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We eat here twice during our stay and enjoyed both occasions. On the first visit I had what was called a peasant omelet, this was a three egg omelet made with Canadian bacon, potatoes, green peppers, tomatoes and jack cheese, served with Home Fries and Wheat Toast. This was wholesome and pleasant, a great way to start the day. My partner had two eggs, over easy, with bacon, home fries and white toast. His was lovely too. On our second visit I chose the Smoked Salmon Benedict. Which was an English Muffin topped with smoked salmon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. It was as tasty as it sounds, the poached egg was firm on the outside, but soft and juicy in the very centre - not enough to make a mess of the plate (and me), but enough to allow the flavour of the egg to merge with the bread. The smoked salmon was salty and mixed well with the egg, excellent. On this visit my partner had two eggs over easy with sausage and sourdough toast for his breakfast and he enjoyed it too.

Great cafe with really good service

By Darren C |

Our hotel restaurant was closed so they recommended Roxanne Cafe to us. Despite the queue out the door I am so glad we persevered and waited for a table as the wait was really only about 15 minutes. The decor is lovely and despite the fact that the restaurant was packed for Saturday morning breakfast the staff were great. There were only 2 wait staff working and they both had smiles and were very attentive. Our waitress Consuela was lovely and considering how rushed off their feet they were they still managed to smile and be friendly which today is rare. It was a long wait for the food almost 40 minutes but we didn’t mind as we knew how busy they were and they were doing their best. When the meals came we really enjoyed them and they were a very generous size. We would definitely return when next in SF.

Great corned beef hash and perfect poached eggs

By Douglas A |

Open from 7am, this was a perfect place to eat breakfast after waking up early in SF. At 8am we walked into a table on a Saturday, by 9am the queue was out the door. My partner had a great omlette with apple, and I had the Corned Beef Hash sunrise breakfast which was decadent and unctuous!

Nice breakfast cafe

By Scott F |

Busy but able to get in on a Saturday morning around 10. Eggs Benedict was great. Nice Omlett options. I had the egg scramble which was great. They wanted to charge extra for extra salsa which I thought was odd but sf prices I guess

Great eatery!

By Robert Anna Brooks |

Wonderful home cooked food and on the trolley line, close to the Mystic hotel. Easy access, great friendly service and good food!

Great Breakfast

By TrailBlazer723626 |

Lots of choice and reasonably priced. It also converts to an Italian Restaurant in the evening. The food is great in then evening even though the choice is limited. A great little diner

Breakfast

By Anthony |

Very good breakfast from a lovely little place, the service was great and they even topped my coffee up. I would recommend this as a stop off for breakfast in San Francisco to anyone traveling.

Nob Hill Find

By mtngranny |

Right on the corner of Powell and Bush streets in San Francisco is Roxanne Cafe. This cozy Italian and American eatery offers great food and service for much less than you normally have to pay in SF for that kind of quality. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We ate dinner on a Sunday and the place really filled up so reserving is probably a good idea.

Excellent Nob Hill Breakfast Place

By Michael T |

Great breakfast place and excellent service. Lots of choices and very reasonably priced for area. Breakfast served until 4pm

Superb

By Jason |

Great little cafe on Powell, does an absolutely superb breakfast. Nice atmosphere. Popular, as it was packed when we arrived just after nine. It is a must try.

Nice lunch . . . nice location

By Nicola_W_0108 |

Had an early lunch here one day during our honeymoon. My husband and I would recommend the mushroom ravioli and the vegetarian omelette with potatoes. Service was fairly friendly and prices were reasonable. We were hoping to visit again to try the breakfast but didn’t get chance! The restroom location seemed odd.

Excellent food

By Alejandra P |

Nice family place, with excellent food and enough options in their menu for the whole family. The only downside was that because of the holidays, there was a long line waiting to be seated.

Best Breakfast

By Meka S |

Went to this cute cafe which was located on the corner of the Orchid Hotel where we stayed! We were there around 9am and the service was amazing! Our waitress was on point! She made sure we had a pleasant breakfast experience! Her name was Thurchannok… that is what was on the receipt. Anyways she was amazing, super friendly and checked up on me and my sister at the appropriate times… not when we had a mouth full like most places do!! Must have breakfast, food was delicious!

Great cafe!

By MarySin |

We popped in here for a light dinner - it was excellent! Great service, loved the food (crab cake with plenty of crab) and bruschetta).

Great neighborhood restaurant

By Ralph_Pressley |

Great visit. We stayed at the Hotel next door, Orchard, and ate here three times. One lunch and two breakfasts. Every visit was pleasant. Food was always PERFECT. Also, wine was very good and reasonable.

Breakfast everyday!

By Ingy13 |

My hubbie and I enjoyed breakfast here on our first morning to San Fran so much that we visited every morning of our stay. It was conveniently located to our hotel but also felt cosy and welcoming and the food did not disappoint. We enjoyed pancakes with fruit, bagels, salmon benedict, tea, coffee, lovely crispy bacon and fresh fruits on our visits. The portions are very reasonable and fill you up. A good start to the day. The staff are very friendly and this is the type of place that you continue to return to as you are guaranteed a lovely breakfast. It was particularly busy in the weekend.

Great Food

By Tracey C |

The food was very good. I had the Napa omelet and my husband has the almond french toast. The space is small but not too loud.

Good eats

By AndrzejK0725 |

Hotel where we stayed while in San Francisco was located close to Powell Street and did not offer dining but in literally stone throw away you can find plenty choices for yourself. We picked Roxanne couple times as food was tasty, relatively cheap and service was good ( you have to remember it is San Francisco - so by default everything is expensive...) Cafe has nice Italian feel to it with nice decoration, cute brick work and Italian tunes in background for you morning meal. Choice is fair for breakfast and egg Benedicte were very, very good. Roasted potatoes which come with it are made on site and seasoning is really fantastic (could not get enough) To complete the Italian feel the only missing piece will be the Italian grandma ordering everyone out of the kitchen in her language (like in this IKEA commercial...) but that is not a case as most of the staff is hard working oriental people whose you will find abundance everywhere in San Francisco. One word of advise, get up early for breakfast (which you should be doing regardless when visiting and exploring) to avoid long lineups as cafe is not that big. For all of them I noticed that party of 3 is an optimal where you get always tables for 4, and you are not as cramped as if you will be when it is just a couple...

Excellent meal

By Gail G |

We had garlic bread, burger and Bolognese - all of which were delicious. Service was faultless and very friendly. Internet. Relaxed and not rushed. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting for breakfast.

BEST BREAKFAST EVER

By Alfonso |

This cafeteria is awesome, they have lots of choices in the menu, all staff members are friendly, the kids enjoyed every breakfast we had there. They have awesome coffee and all food was great. I highly recommend you to go to this place and the best thing is that it’s not expensive, it has such a high standard that you will pay anything to enjoy that delicious food.

Expensive cafe

By robert w |

we had ok basic food which did not justify 17% tip/gratuity from an already overpriced place. They demanded this 17% was a legal addition to the cost. Which legally is incorrect as even their printed receipt acknowledges. Not recommend and we will not return here as I dislike dishonesty even for a few dollars, it spoils the experience and is just plain wrong.

Great Food and Iconic Location

By Steve W |

Situated on the corner of Powell and Bush St, it’s a great place to sit and watch the cable cars whilst enjoying a meal in really pleasant surroundings. We called in for early morning breakfast and weren’t disappointed. We had the Roxanne Grande and a full breakfast of eggs, sausages and home fried potatoes all of which were excellent. The service was quick and the waitress was helpful and extremely polite. A real gem of a place with lots of atmosphere and reasonably priced considering where it’s situated.

Great spot for breakfast

By Michael O |

We stayed in the orchard hotel next door, and came for breakfast each day. They have character and food was good and price was much lower than hotel.

Best Breakfast in the City

By WendyS58 |

Fantastic breakfasts including omelettes of all types and fresh real corned beef hash. Cafe Au Lait is very generous. I wasn't as crazy about the corned beef hash as I was about the main part of the breakfast, but good service

A Perfect Spot

By Gary R |

My first visit was more than 20 years ago so I have some perspective. We had breakfast here on an October Saturday morning and we thought everything was excellent. We were quickly greeted and seated next to the large windows with a view up high of the Top of the Mark. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. We both had an egg dish and though simple, we’re well prepared and flavorful. The room is bright and on this morning, sunny. The cable car stops just outside the door so the clanging of the bell and views make this a quintessential San Francisco experience. To my knowledge the ownership is new and from my experience I am happy to say that this lovely spot is in great hands. You won’t be disappointed.

Good breakfast

By rstrachan80023 |

Good food, slight mix up with the order for a start but it was quickly resolved. Good atmosphere and nice and central. Would return.

Amazing breakfast

By Michelle C |

Went every morning for breakfast - amazing food and staff and quite reasonable priced. Would recommend.

Kindness did not go unnoticed

By K T Dume |

My associates and I were staying at the nearby Orchard Hotel - we ate breakfast here four mornings in a row, and lunch or dinner three times. Clearly, we were happy with the restaurant! If you're looking for upscale chi-chi dining, this isn't your place. This is a place full of comfort foods and locals. Excellent coffee. Tasty food. Attention to allergies, food preferences. Friendly staff. Zero to complain about. One thing I noticed and loved. There was a gentleman who came in after our party was seated, and he sat himself at a table next to an older woman obviously trying to read a book while eating alone. The only inappropriate thing about him was that he continued to talk to her despite her saying a couple of times that she had to get back to her book. There was nothing rude about it, but he clearly kept forgetting that he'd promised to stop talking, and continued in a friendly tone. We overheard him saying he was "homeless by choice" and that he'd sold his San Francisco house for a million dollars recently, was excited that a friend had offered him a place to stay in the Phillipines for $600 a month, which his social security would cover. The waitress asked if he was ready to eat now - apparently he'd ordered breakfast and then disappeared for an hour. She also asked if he could pay; she was very polite about it. He responded that he was still hungry! and she brought him a platter of eggs and salmon. The woman at the next table finally gave up and conversed with him for a while, urging him to eat, saying he was too skinny. When he confessed he could eat no more, she arranged to have the leftovers boxed and helped him do so. During all this time, the wait staff treated him with respect. When the bill came, the woman insisted on paying it, although he pulled out what appeared to be several credit cards from his pocket. He thanked her profusely and left. Personally, I'd rather eat at a homey restaurant that serves meatloaf at dinner as a main course, and treats human beings like human beings, than the fanciest place in town.

Okay food, bad service

By sammyvictoria2018 |

We ate breakfast here yesterday after it was recommended by our hotel. Place wasn’t particularly busy but the two waitresses provided near minimal, terse service. Waitress didn’t greet us or smile once and seemed irritated with taking our order. The dishes piled in the side of the table while some family members were still eating were looked at, and ignored by both waitresses. No one came to check on our meal to see how it was, whether we wanted anything else, or to fill up our coffee. The atmosphere was unfriendly and tense. Thankfully the food was good except for burnt sausages. We were surprised to see a 20 percent automatic gratuity charge at the end for the worst service we have experienced on our trip.

Good Food

By Charlie1625 |

We visited here for breakfast. We were seated very quickly and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. The food was freshly cooked and very tasty - and not too expensive for San Francisco!

Local gem

By Wrighty0 |

Found this place by chance and it was packed out with locals on NYD so we took a chance! We ordered sandwich and omelettes both large portions and very tasty. service was good as was the vibe. Would recommend!

Little Neighborhood quick bite for the undecided

By Ruthie03 |

Cozy small restaurant with a nice selection of everything from pasta to burgers.Service average. Tables close to each other so you can hear everyone's conversation. Chicken Marsala and chef salad were good. Open late

great breakfast

By Joan Z |

We had a delicious breakfast here. Nice menu. Pleasant servers. Get there early - it tends to get busy because the food is excellent.

Breakfast and dinner

By Chris B |

Great food and great service and very reasonably priced. Couldn't ask for more. No booking was needed. They accommodated us at the drop of a hat.

Average Restaurant for San Francisco

By Ronrp56 |

My wife and I had lunch at Roxanne's and considered the food to be okay. As SF has great restaurants it is hard to give a better than average score for average meals. Service was good as well as the atmosphere.

Great place for breakfast!

By Lisa Kris |

We had breakfast at Roxanne’s 2 days in a row as the service was excellent and the food was great, hearty breakfast.

Good little restaurant

By BretagnePat |

We went there several times for dinner because our Pension was nearby. Not great cuisine but decent enough after a busy day of sightseeing. The products are good whether meat (quality) or fish (salmon) or seafood (shrimp...), for dishes in sauce it is sometimes necessary to curb them on the quantity. Pleasant staff attentive if it is necessary to adjust to the tastes of each. A nice little place with music atmosphere of crooners.

Warm Welcome to Welcome Warmth

By JMCSTL |

After standing in the unrelenting cold June wind blowing up Powell Street for over a half hour, our group of 5 hopeful cable car riders decided we needed to thaw out & get some lunch.  Roxanne Cafe having provided an outer wall for us to lean against near the Powell & Bush Streets cable car stop, we agreed to step inside for a change of climate.  We were immediately greeted & seated by the pair of friendly ladies providing service in the small dining room area, our orders were taken once we decided on our choices, and our fresh & satisfying meals were delivered to our table in reasonable time.  Spinach salad with chicken, tuna melt sandwich with fries, and French toast with sliced strawberries were all very good and the serving sizes were filling for our travel group.  The tea & coffee lovers among us also enjoyed their hot drinks. We waited another 20 minutes after lunch before a cable car with room for us came up the hill.  But our unfortunate touring conditions were thankfully saved by our fortunate discovery of a dining gem in the northeastern section of the San Francisco Downtown/Civic Center District, which we would recommend to others.

Tasty food, nice atmosphere

By Lucy G |

We popping in here for some lunch after a recommendation from our hotel. We ordered a burger and a sandwich - both were really tasty and good portion sizes. Staff were very friendly and it seemed like it would be busy in the evening too.

Excellent breakfast

By john w |

Half way up Powell Street from Market or one block from corner of Sutter. All the standard fare you'd expect. Cozy. Very friendly service.

Had a great meal!

By C. C |

This location was very close to the Wyndham/Worldmark we were staying at. The food was fresh and delicious. I like the hustle and bustle of Powell street and the trolley stop right out front as the backdrop to our meal.

Frühstück einfach super !!!

By devun |

Ein sehr schönes aber kleines Café Mega leckeres Frühstück, leider keine Reservierung möglich aber super freundliches Personal. Mrs Consuela is the Best !!! Very friendly and lovely Person ! Thank you for your great hospitality. We will be back😀

Charming

By ConnorYM |

This little corner restaurant has a good vibe, and the staff seemed to be quite on top of things on a busy Saturday morning (during Pride!). I didn’t have anything hot as I wasn’t feeling like it, so I knew I was taking a risk ordering less common items from the menu. I had the fruit salad with cottage cheese and raisins, and a blueberry muffin. Happily, everything was fresh and the cottage cheese was generous. Their muffins are quite large, so this filled me up completely until the late afternoon. Tip - their washroom is hard to find. It’s just past the till to the right, right before you get into the kitchen.

Good pasta

By Mauricio |

Very good spaghetti with meatballs. Recommend. Nice and quiet place. You need to walk a little from Union Square but the food is good.

Bravo to the Joey Scramble

By flying_geordie |

I’m often here in the city with work and venturing up to Roxanne’s early in the morning for breakfast has become a mainstay and home from home. The location, the food, but above all the friendliness of the staff has always impressed me. Consuelo in particular stands out. She remembers your name (not just your face) and where you’re from. She makes you feel like one of her family. Well done Roxeanne’s and I look forward to my Joey Scramble and Mimosa in the coming weeks… Keep up the good work 👍🏼

Lovely little cafe

By D0lphingirl2 |

We stayed in San Francisco pre cruise. First morning we ate in the hotel restaurant at a cost of $70! The following day we discovered Roxanne. What. A gem! Food is freshly cooked and a wide choice on the menu very reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly wait time is minimal although mornings are busy so expect to wait a little longer. I can’t recommend this cafe enough and if we go back to San Francisco I know where we will be eating

Pricey, but good food and good portions

By DGieskens |

We had breakfast in this cafe. It's a busy place, but they seated us quickly. Although not super expensive, still pricey, but then it's located in the centre of SF and the portions and quality are good.

Delicious Spag Bol & great service!

By Rosanna F |

Went here with my daughter for an early dinner. Menu is small but quite happy with this. We both had spaghetti bolognaise and a bottle of pinot noir. It was delicious and portion size large. Lovely waitress who was very attentive. Prices are expensive but it seems like this is common in San Fran. Restaurant had a good vibe and we had a really enjoyable experience.

Nice place, mediocre food

By Tamarcy |

Basically OK but disappointing food with the emphasis on greasy. Scrambled eggs served with superfluous fried potatoes that had been re-heated and were an odd grey color. Also greasy and liberally doused with unnecessary paprika. Not pleasant. The sourdough bread was a blot on the reputation of sourdough bread - sort of a supermarket/WonderBread thingy. Disappointing to be served that in San Francisco.

Drinks and dinner

By Ian R |

Went here to watch the Superbowl and ended up eating as well. Far less busy than some of the other bars and tap rooms around. Great place to eat. Food and service was fantastic. My partner had some lovely red wine- Half Moon?

Bad American Breakfast

By Seth |

Really bad American breakfast, don’t trust the reviews. The scrambled eggs was covered in oil. Potatoes felt undercooked. Pancakes we’re fine but nothing too special.

Tasteless & Overpriced

By Yola Y |

The place was quaint but the food was tasteless and eggs are 2 for $10 , not kid friendly not one thing on the menu for kids and last your not able to ssubstitute

Met Expectations

By rickmen |

Seated after a short queue that moved quickly. Service was fast and friendly. Food was yummy, I enjoyed the salmon benedict and reasonably priced considering the location. I will probably go back next day.

A favorite for 20+ years!

By D i |

We've been going here for over 20 years for breakfast and still love the local vibe there. Took our son who now lives within walking distance and he found it great as well as the service. And close for those visiting San Francisco. We're happy they're still in business after Covid as we've lost many long term restaurants as many other U.S. cities have. And do know, it's a major city so prices will be higher than some cities in the U.S.

Great breakfast

By Colin J |

Typical American diner. Popped in for breakfast and great menu choices at reasonable prices. Free top-ups on great coffee. Something to suit everyone from the smallest appetite to the...how do I put this.....the more generous American appetite.

Great spot

By oggymuncher |

We had two " roxanne grande" breakfasts they were delicious and set us up for the whole day. Nice atmosphere and very friendly helpful staff , the place is not very big and you do need to be patient at busy times

excellent breakfast

By 836eldent |

This place is really busy, but it is worth the wait. Outstanding service, great meal, and you never have to ask for a refill on your coffee. This place doesn't look like much, but don't let that fool you as it is worth the wait. We will be going back here the next time we are in San Francisco

An okay eatery

By Steven T |

A short walk down the hill from the Intercontinental hotel. Pricing was good, the food just okay, for hospitality we’ve had much better. The place was relatively clean. For the price and food quality we found much better places in town.

Breakfast near Nob Hill

By babscoffee |

Great spot for full breakfast near Bush and Powell. Atmosphere is classy, but prices are reasonable for SF.

Loved it!

By djupp2018 |

First time to SF and found this gem on a walk around; breakfast was really good and plenty of it; super friendly staff , recommended.

Wonderful little gem of a place

By Sarah-Jane B |

This quaint little cafe is homely, the staff cannot do enough for you and the prices are reasonable. Portion sizes are finally a size that are manageable enough to fill you up but not too large (unlike every where else) that you waste food to landfill. I ordered a cocktail and through my own mistake didn’t read the ingredients. I didn’t mention it (I am British after all) but the waiter picked up on it and offered to swap it without charge - you wouldn’t get that in UK!

BREAKFAST OF DREAMS

By CKBECK |

How could we not go to this place for breakfast when they advertised Nutella French Toast?! it was delicious, and my husband said the pancakes were the best he's ever had! attentive staff and the place is super cute, worth the walk up the steep hill!

40th anniversary trip

By Dtauzer |

Wonderful find. Very good service. Good coffee. Just what we want for breakfast. We tried other places and were disappointed. This is a keeper

First USA meal

By Mrs-Diedre |

Great little cafe that offered a variety of foods anything from beaky, gourmet sandwiches and meals. Plenty and yummy. Service was great and prompt.

Just perfect

By 116phreview |

A very lucky find amidst the metropolis of San Francisco. I visited Roxanne’s on my first night and - feeling tired and jet lagged - found this to be the perfect cure. Great service, lovely freshly made food, good music, views, and central location next to Union Square. Highly recommended.

Great Breakfast Cafe

By MNStitcher |

This little restaurant tucked on the corner of Bush and Powell has some great breakfast! Went there twice because it was close to our hotel and we enjoyed it so much. Eat indoor or outside in the parklet. Service was great even when it was busy.

Good place

By Didimaya |

Not the biggest place but very cute, breakfast are good but not the biggest plate if you are hungry, table are very close to each other and that could be a turn off for someone who wants intimicy

Beginning of a Great Day

By Anthony H |

It was about 8:30 A M and My group of 3 Couples were at the Fairmont Hotel Lobby, we all decided to go out for breakfast. My son is real good about finding places to eat or places to visit. Wel this is one of those places that was not to far away from the hotel. A small cab ride and we showed up at Roxannes Cafe. A little busy but room for our party of 6. We were seated, and service was very fast. Coffee, juices, and yes bloody Marys. All of were very good. Service is 50% of a great experience, you guessed it, food is the other half. Begles and locks, pancakes, bacon and eggs, and french toast, all were very good. If you are looking for a good breakfast and courteus and efficient staff this is the place. How ever I must warn you at about 9:00 To 10:00 Roxannes gets very busy, but I Must say it is well worth it.

There’s a lovely family vibe about this place

By Christine B |

We had a couple of breakfasts here during our stay and also called in for a beer on a very hot afternoon. Friendly, efficient service and a good breakfast both times.

Lovely place to visit

By xekrax |

During the last day at San Francisko I have decided to visit this cafe. What can I say. It is lovely place for couples or even solo visit. The surrounding music remembers for me visit at Paris. The stuff was friendly, while meal - super delicious. I took omlete with baked mufin and late. I was really impressed.

Cute place - Food not spectacular

By Just Me |

Ordered a Caesar Salad and the New York (medium rare). Caesar salad had more cheese than romaine, and the dressing was good yet not sure made from scratch. The steak, oy, it came out well done. Sent it back, the steak came RARE and totally raw on the inside not and cold. We sent it back suggesting how much time was needed to cook it; it came back better. The steak had so much silverskin in it that 1/4 was cut off due to it. The server was nice. The place was quite quaint. I would not go back.

Excellent food and decent prices

By Liz270 |

I honestly don't understand why this place isn't packed all the time. We had supper tonight and the food was amazing. Large servings and decent prices. We had the steak (with mashed potatoes) and salmon (with potatoes au gratin and mushroom sauce). Excellent. Very nice server too.

Great breakfast spot

By HeatherHLR |

Came to Roxanne Cafe for breakfast while in town for a conference. The food was fresh, good portions, and fair prices. The Belgian waffle was my favorite... delish!

Nice little cafe

By Thetravelinman |

Stopped in for brunch on a late Monday afternoon. Good omelette, good service. Definitely recommend if staying nearby.

Good Breakfast Option

By Phoey |

Great breakfast, served with a smile by Consuela. Enjoyed a ham and cheese omelette with very tasty hash browns. Reasonably quiet at 7am but passed by latter on and a queue had formed.

Food good, service lacking

By Deborah L |

We went early on a Sunday morning right after opening, and were one of only two tables seated. It still took 10 min before a server took our order for coffee. The restaurant got super busy over the next half hour and we had only one coffee refill. When my husband finally asked for a cup to go, we were told we would be charged for it, so we just left. Food is good and fresh, courtesy very lacking. We liked the breakfast diners a lot more.

Good Old School Diner

By 792SteveS792 |

We had a family gathering of 20 people. They accommodated our group with excellent service. Food was good but this is a diner and not a Michelin restaurant. Coffee could be stepped up a notch.

Underestimated

By volkermtl |

This small restaurant at Powell is a little secret. Mostly neighbourhood guests, nearly no tourists. The restaurant itself is a little simply furnished but the food an the service is very good. We came here 3 times. The salads are as fresh as they can be. The clamshells and mussels are excellent. Steak was the way we liked. Pasta with herbs and chicken was the best we had in San Francisco. Toilet are very clean and well looked after. We highly recommended this place.

Nice place & good food

By Matt P |

We were staying in a hotel just down the road so decided to book here. Early evening and quiet when we arrived, the atmosphere of the place was welcoming and the staff friendly. Food was excellent and in my opinion quite well priced compared to some other places we visited on previous evenings. Very pleased and would highly recommend …

Expensive and cramped

By T G |

We came here for a quick breakfast. It was very expensive and it wasn't that good. Everything was very expensive and we shared our food because there were people waiting for our table hanging over our head. I should have gone to a fast food place, because we could have had a more leisurely breakfast.

Problematic visit

By AjayMV |

Had breakfast here based on reviews. Friendly service but slow. Food wasn’t great, eggs overcooked & dry (omelettes), kids enjoyed their French toast. Dated decor too. Avoid.

Breakfast

By Michael M |

I specifically wanted to visit this restaurant because it was close to my hotel in Union Square and was a mileage restaurant. The service was substandard but my pancake and ham was real good. I don't think they were short of help, but was was slow at 9a in the morning. I would return, but I do hope service will be improved.

Good breakfast

By Gail G |

We enjoyed a good, rather expensive, breakfast. Service was very good. Atmosphere was busy. Restroom leaves a lot to be desired.

Good breakfast spot

By Joe L |

Great French toast just a few blocks from Union Square. Service was a bit abrupt, but nice, quaint cafe for breakfast.

Food and location good. Specified tip cheeky

By Anna B |

Food and location good. Service nice. Portions manageable for the price. The mandatory tip of 18% for four people or more was disproportionate as we were there with two children.

Excellent restaurant

By Augusto M |

Excellent dinner. Beautiful restaurant. Very good food. Excellent service from the waiters. Nice music and atmosphere. Very quiet.

Very tasty food

By Phil G |

Discovered the cafe by accident but stumbled over a great place to eat. We had dinner each night and found the food very good and prompt service. A good range of menu and value for money.

Reliably good

The best place around for breakfast. Also good for lunch and dinner. Unpretentious, friendly service, good value food.

Breakfast all day

By Wendi Haughton |

We had breakfast here on our last day in SF and couldn't have picked a better place. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was great!

What a breakfast!

By marco m |

At the fair in San Francisco there was no shortage of scrambled eggs for breakfast. The Joeys scramble are magnificent with a cup of coffee always topped up. Excellent service enriched by smiles that make the customer more inclined to be generous when leaving a tip.

Great breakfast

By Mike p |

My wife and I came for breakfast one morning since it was right next to our hotel. We had been to the usuall San Francisco breakfast restaurants like Sweet Maple, Honey Honey, and Dottie's. This was just as good I think. It's a small place but really nice. I had the French toast with strawberries and my wife had pancakes. They were both great and I think they might have the best coffee I have had yet. They are on the powel cable car line too.

Good food, good service

By Bronwyn H |

Great cafe for breakfast. Good food, great service and value for money. Would recommend for anyone staying in San Francisco

Quick lunch before airport

By Emma |

Our final meal in the US before our flight home. Fast and friendly service, lots of choice on the menu and great cheeseburgers!

Right near the tram stop

By MishyTravels |

Situated on the corner of Powell and Bush street this is a little beauty. It is busy and fresh in a great location with the tram stop directly in front. Just across the street from a great little hotel Cornell Hotel de France. Short tram ride down to Fisherman's Wharf

Eggs done right

By IowaCityMD |

I ordered poached eggs, which is always a test of the kitchen. They were done correctly with slightly runny yolks and cooked whites. Fruit salad was strawberries, blueberries and kiwi not the usual melon. Husband sent back for lunch and enjoyed his salad. Service was quick. Only complaint is tables were small and upgrade to fruit instead of potatoes was $3. Our breakfast for two was $53.

Excellent Mimosas

By Jerica_Kr |

We stayed at Kimpton Sir Francis Drake Hotel and this Cafe was very close! The food tasted great. I ordered homemade corn beef hash which came with a hearty side. The Mimosa was fantastic and bubbly! The price was just right for the solid portion size.

Wonderful and yummie!

By LisenGBG |

Wonderful café where we went several times, both for breakfast and for lunch. The staff is friendy, helpful and so very serviceminded. And the food is yummie!

Best breakfast

By livsm47 |

We ate here 3/4 mornings we had in San Francisco as it was just across the road from our hotel. There was a line everyday (a testament to its popularity) but we were always seated within 5-10 minutes. There are so many options on the menu. Some of our favourites were the stuffed french toast, joeys scrambled and pancakes. Everything is delicious! This is a hidden gem of San Francisco near union Square and right outside the cable car stop. Defiantly worth a visit!

Great food and service at reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

By Jennifer J |

Great food at reasonable prices. They also serve a complimentary garden salad appetiser and bread with the entree. Delightful French music playing in the background as you sit in a rustic setting, with lots of nostalgia around the walls. A very pleasant ambience- not noisy or crowded. The staff are very friendly and Carlos gave us great, prompt service.

Friendly little restaurant

By AML1966 |

Friendly little restaurant in SF. Not really sure where I was (just wandering/ sight seeing) glad I decided to try this place for lunch. Meatballs spaghetti and a Blue Moon beer. Just what I needed after a 7km hike around SF! 👍

Best breakfast

By JTowell55 |

Breakfast was delicious and service was quick. Had their Omlette with Salmon and traditional egg breakfast with a side of cornedbeef hash. Conveniently located on the cablecar line for anyone who wants to watch the cablecars or hop on and off. Also went for dinner another night which was very good.

Nice and cosy

By Andrew H |

Had the pork loin, was very amazing. Its a little tucked away on the corner of Powell St and Bush St but dont judge a book by its cover. Prices are reasonable which always helps make the meal more palatable.

Breakfast visit.

By Elleface89 |

Visited for breakfast. Had to queue a short while for a table and it was evident the place was a bit short staffed. Breakfast was good.

FANTASTIC. Just...fantastic.

By Emily G |

Awesome little spot. Smiling, helpful, friendly staff. Great selections. Small space but everything moved efficiently without being rushed. Excellent find - highly recommend!

Quaint place for breakfast

By Departure678607 |

Breakfast on first day in San Francisco. Great ambiance, food and service was on point. The stuffed French toast was blueberry cream; my hubby was expecting a fresh blueberry compote. In fairness we didn’t think to ask when ordering. The California omelette was hearty with seasoned potatoes and toast. However, BEWARE, it wasn’t until we were ready to pay our bill that the server disclosed a $15.99 table charge per couple. He apologized and explained this is standard for San Francisco restaurants. As you can imagine, this put a damper on what was a positive breakfast experience.

Breakfast at Roxanne's is one of our traditions

By PrismaticCalifornia |

Roxanne's manages to accommodate and amazing number of people in a small space with good service and food. It's so popular you may havre to wait on the steps for a quarter hour. The staff do an incredible job in the space and are very friendly.

Good food, small portions

By Alex2607 |

We dined here over two nights in August. The food was nice and the service was quite good. The meals were quite small and so it was a little expensive.

Traditional Italian Dinner

By Matty A |

Quiet little place with authentic Italian food. The risotto and the gnocchi was great. Other reviews complained about the sauces. Obviously not Italians because it’s just like Nona makes. One of the cheapest meals we ate all week.

Excellent breakfast

By Peter D |

Lovely find, clean with plenty of choice - busy which is always a good sign. Friendly welcome seated immediately food arrived quickly fresh and hot. Great coffee with constant top ups. Very reasonable prices for the quality - would recommend

Lovely, cozy breakfast cafe

By Linda T |

Delicious food and lovely staff, visited often during our stay. Corner of Bush/Powell Streets. Great choice for breakfast!

Nice place

By Arun |

The place is open for breakfast even at 10/11am, spread is great, was staying next doors, liked it and used it 4 times in our 5 day visit, this more than anything else is a fitting testimony to how much we liked the place!

Breakfast with soft jazz

By ModBird |

Lovely breakfast with smooth atmosphere. Good value and fresh food. Refills of coffee. Would return and recommend

Savory fuel

By SmithDrKat |

Great breakfast spot just up the hill from union square on the Powell cable car line. We shared a meal because the servings are very generous. The servers were very nice and they were timely and attentive. Thanks for waking us up and dueling our day.

My food was only ok, charming place though.

By AMCIVER |

I've have to cut them some slack on slow service- they were incredibly busy when I visited. It is an older diner & has very limited seating. I ended up eating at the bar because I was a solo traveler-which is fine. I just don't know if it's worth it at peak times. Menu is pretty interesting-everything from classics to some very inventive dishes. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing.

Feel like I have been ripped off.

By lisa026 |

This was close to our hotel so we ate there twice. It was not until we had left SF that I looked at the bills, yes, my fault, but they had included the tips but still insisted, both times, to not forget to tip. Humm. The place itself is nice, I liked it, the food was ok, nothing special at all but the service was slow and surly. I would not have gone back a second time except it was raining and I did not feel like walking around too much. LIve and learn and read your bill.

Down to earth & Delicious

By MeTwitty1Day |

Roxanne is quite a steep climb of 2 Powell Street blocks from Union Square, but once you're there, the courteous & friendly staff will take good care of you. We dined at Roxanne twice and enjoyed the delicious Roxanne's burger (with fries) and tasty & rich Mushroom Ravioli (with a salad plate and bread basket). You can ask for ketchup and mayo for your burger & fries and the staff will bring these condiments. Prices are quite reasonable for downtown San Francisco. They close early around 8:30 to 9 pm depending on the number of customers who show up and stay. One night we stopped by at 8:05 pm, most the lights were turned off and one of their waitstaff did not know if they were still open or not. Overall, the food is tasty, Roxanne is not crowded at night, and the staff is friendly. A down-to earth place for couples and friends to gather and dine.

Good Food, Good Service

By busconi |

Stopped in for breakfast. Ordered the two eggs over-medium, bacon and an English muffin. Eggs came out perfectly cooked, tasty bacon, and my tall orange juice was refreshing. Service was excellent, atmosphere lovely. We had a window seat and were able to look at San Francisco walking by and the cable cars running up and down. Great spot.

Great little stop

By Kerzy |

Went twice for breakfast and so quaint. Lady serving was friendly and efficient ensuring that we were attended to. Food really delicious and good value. Good location if staying in hotels nearby.

Breakfast at Roxanne's

By Rose O |

During our holidays in San Francisco, we decided to try this typical american place to have our breakfast. They serve an excellent breakfast, with a wide choice of sweet and savory dishes, every kind of beverages cold and hot, and good coffee. We realized it was a "winning place" from the long queue at the entrance. Kind staff and professional. Well done!

Great Breakfast, Slow Service

By FantescaGirl |

Fun corner cafe vibe, comfortable tables and booths. Very good breakfast served until 2pm. Unfortunately, although kind, the service was slow. It took hours just to dine. They didn’t seem in a hurry to turn tables. They offer soy milk as a DF option. Looks like they also served wine and mimosas if it would complete your Sunday Brunch. We’ll visit again. It’s conveniently located in Nob Hill and within walking distance of Huntington Park.

Fun while it lasts...

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our meal here... AND THEN THE BILL ARRIVED!!! We had been meaning to eat at the Roxanne Cafe since we first arrived in SF as the food looked delicious and the prices were reasonable by SF standards. My boyfriend had the Roxanne Burger and I ate the Eggplant Parmigiana, both were delicious. The big deal came when the bill arrived and they had added a COMPULSORY GRATUITY CHARGE of 15 %. Both my boyfriend and I found this extraordinary. We accept that the tipping culture in America is very different to that in the UK but this has always been optional and at the customers discretion. To add a compulsory service charge on is frankly a violation of basic human liberties. WE the customer shall CHOOSE if we want to tip or not. Kindly don't tell us what to do. If you want to earn 15% more per table just put your prices up by that much and people like us can then choose wether or not we want to still eat at your establishment. It's appalling! Just FYI, for anyone thinking that we are being horrible for contesting tipping culture, you might want to take a quick look into the history of tipping, it's origins and how it allows employers to underpay their staff to this very day. They get two stars because the food was delicious.

Food OK, sour faced staff

By Fionad1976 |

Tasty food, came to the table very quick, microwaved? Our waitress had a sour face though and the place lacked atmosphere, not busy at a peak time.

Nasty People

By johnneyeagle_12 |

This was the most inhospitable place I have ever been. The people here are rude and arrogant. The atmosphere was outright hostile.

Very nice, cosy and home feeling place

By Riyaz P |

We went for three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) there while we were on vacation and the family-style environment was just amazing. Great food, service and hospitality.

a sunday breakfast of unispiring essentials in a cosy habitat

By B d A |

Not as impressive as the pictorial representation. Located at a corner of the Nob Hilly Bush street. Excellent staff, smiling and courteous prompt service. Omelettes essentially basic and the price, compared to our recent Italian grandeur, exorbitant. Unimpressive but a bit ambiential and cute.

Breakfast

By oliver |

Very popular spot for breakfast. At peak times 8.30-10am expect to queue for 5-10mins. Lovely staff and the food is of a good standard. We went twice on our trip

Start the day sweetly!

By Malki Tzedek |

Roxanne Cafe is a great place to have breakfast in San Francisco. The food is delicious, the service is excellent and the atmosphere is perfect. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to start the day with a tasty and satisfying breakfast. We ordered the Strawberry Waffles, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the strawberries were fresh and sweet. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious, with maple syrup. Recommended, even if the prices are a little high, but the culinary experience was full of surprises.

Alright

By pascal chardon |

Very good place for a breakfast. We went there twice and everything was perfect, in the middle of the tourist season. It's better to arrive early THANKS

Disappointed

By abcstephanie |

We went here for breakfast on the recommendation of our hotel which doesn’t have a restaurant. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. We ordered the fruit salad and cottage cheese - the fruit was chopped up melon and 5 pieces of pineapple. The scrambled eggs looked like it came out of a packet. The place was full and I noticed others were enjoying eggs Benedict and pancakes - maybe our expectations were too high.

Very nice cafe with wide range

By Robert L |

Very nice cafe with wide range og breakfasts including vegetarian and vegan options surprisingly difficult to find in San Francisco. I just love the Roxanne Grande, although likely not good for you to live off of daily.

Best breakfast in San Francisco

By Paul B |

This was the only place we visited twice for breakfast. It’s in a great location just off Union Square and on the cable car line. The corned beef hash was amazing, really tasty and crispy. The eggs Benedict was good too. Prices were fair and portions big. Nice atmosphere inside too.

Good to very good food at breakfast

By Stephenkase |

Good to very good food for breakfast, but rather expensive. Can be around $40 dollars a person (dependent on how hungry you are I suppose), but should leave you with a fairly full stomach for that rate. Excellent Banana and Strawberry Nutella French toast. Outstanding potato home made hash browns. Poached eggs (should be a bit more runny) but great ingredients overall. Coffee‼️ not the best, small amounts and very expensive (especially if adding a non diary milk) and not much caffeine either

Tasty foods and great portion size

By Robert W |

The night we visited we were able to get right in, there was great service and great atmosphere. Quaint little place

Hidden gem of a restaurant, tucked away in a corner!

By susancX3019JR |

I often catch the ferry to the city to bring out of town guests; sometimes we overnight to experience Union Square and the dilemma is always where to take friends and family for a good meal, not too expensive, not too far to walk and in a safe area! Well, Roxanne’s Cafe is one of these places at the corner of Powell and Bush! It fits my criteria to a T and it’s really more than a good meal - delicious! Try their salmon, their chicken Marsala, oh any of their pastas and most important to me, desserts! For a small restaurant I was so surprised that they actually make their own desserts on the premises! And it’s ONO (yummy in Hawaiian)! Definitely a hidden gem in Union Square, where fine dining is often very, very pricey for what you get!

Delicious and fast

By Heather B |

Courteous staff and quick service. Food was perfect. I got the Napa omelette with apples, brie, cilantro & almonds, it was delicious. Highly recommend!

Good food and fast

By Sonja S |

Intended to eat at another restaurant nearby but it had a long wait at 7:45 on a Sunday. Walked over here and no wait. Cute restaurant with Sinatra playing. Service was quick. Food was excellent - wonderful hot chocolate, French toast and fruit.

Poor customer service

By Steve N |

Wait staff seemed uncoordinated. Inefficient service and poor communication. We stood inside the door for over 5 minutes before we had to make contact with someone about a possible seat. Maybe they were understaffed??? We were told it would be a 5-10 minute wait which turned out to be over 15. We left versus waiting for a seat with no idea what was going on.

Bustling Breakfast Spot

By OregonOpus |

This place is quite popular and crowded, expect a short wait to get seated for breakfast. Nice atmosphere, large windows let you watch the passers-by. The food was quite good, and arrived promptly for a cook to order place. Server was friendly, prices reasonable for the area, which is upscale. A good place to eat for less than the Nob Hill hotels charge for breakfast.

Awesome Californian Breakfast Place

By Threestars |

Cosy little cafe offering a large menu for breakfasts. Large portions and always quite packed. Freshly brewed coffee gets free refill

Friendly service but lukewarm food

By seashell17 |

Went there today for breakfast. Granted it was an early January (not busy) morning and I didn't arrive until nearly 11. But my breakfast potatoes and toast were cool to lukewarm. Like they had been sitting for quite a while. I ordered an omelet which was hot off the grill But not spectacular. I try and support small, local places vs the large hotel restaturants nearby. I won't be rushing back to Rosanne's. On a positive note - you get to see the cable cars zoom by as they go up and down the hill. The service was friendly and attentive.

Best breakfast in the world

By Getaway823519 |

As a flight attendant I’ve travelled a lot and this is my favourite breakfast place in the world. The food is all freshly cooked and delicious! The eggs Benedict has hollandaise that’s really light and properly done unlike so many other places where everything has been sitting around in big pots under heat lamps….. I hadn’t been in San Francisco since covid and was really looking forward to coming back to Roxannes. I can only say the whole experience is even better than before. The staff are so attentive and friendly. I can’t recommend this place enough.

Thought it was overpriced

By Lez UK |

I only wanted a small breakfast on my first day. But got what they called the smallest unfortunately far too much for me.

Recommended for breakfast!

By Mirko |

This place is one of my favorites to have breakfast when in San Francisco. They provide fast service and do magic with eggs any style. Eggs Benedict are first-rate! Pancakes used to be fantastic, now they’re a bit dry, but I guess it comes down to personal taste. Lovely place, opens early.

Excellent Breakfast Alternative on Nov Hill

By THOMAS B |

Refreshing alternative to Nob Hill hotel breakfasts. Fresh and assorted varieties of omelettes, pancakes, and French Toast. Good choices at half the price!

Tasty breakfast!

By Matthias B |

nice little place, quick and friendly service and good food ! Sitting close to the kitchen I could watch a lot of nice dishes being distributed ... will come again to try more!

Perfect Saturday brunch!

By OleMiss91 |

Fabulous brunch! We waited in line outside for about 15 minutes (at 11am). We were seated at the outside little covered eating area. Pretty weather so it was perfect! Bloody Mary was very good; I had the Napa omelette with apples, Brie, mushrooms, topped with slivered almonds, it came with potatoes & I had sourdough toast. Husband had the Roxanne breakfast, 2 eggs, pancakes, potatoes- a ton of food. All for $50. Great service, go eat here!

Delicious breakfast

By ShellyAus |

Went here for breakfast, service was friendly, menu was good and food was tasty. Would definitely go back again.

Disappointing change in policy

By Jean-François T |

We went once before and everything was great. We had our dog with us. Went backon we were told dogs were no longer accepted due to a change in policy because people 'apparently complained" Needless to say, very disappointing and will never be going back

A great start to the day

By PAUL O |

Fabulous service, great food , lovely atmosphere and so close to cable car stop, just outside the door. Our only breakfast choice for our 4 day stop in San Francisco

A hearty breakfast

By jennbH8820PD |

Enjoy a filling and satisfying breakfast with delicious house made sausages and blueberry packed pancakes! The service is friendly and prompt!

Delicious breakfast

By Barbara C |

Sorry that the previous review had poor service- our experience was awesome 😎 Great breakfast Benedict’s with lovely clean linens and French cafe feel- nice views of top of the mark and well worth the hill climb to get here

Great breakfast cafe

By Steve C |

Nice clean little cafe on lower nob hill. Had the grande breakfast. Two eggs, bacon, sausage potatoes and the best pancakes I've had in quiet a while. All for $15, a great value for this area.

excellent for breakfast

By tasteiner |

We had heard this was a good breakfast place. My wife had the pancakes and I had eggs and sausage. The pancakes were light and fluffy, and the sausage were very tasty with just the right amount of spice. Service was excellent.

Very nice

By Alex |

Small and lovely cafe in the central part of city, 3 minutes from Union square. Service was very friendly and competent. All we ordered was tasty and portions have a good size. Wine isn't expensive in comparison with another places around. This place doesn't have strong alcoholic drinks. And you should know, that gratuity is included in bill (15%).

Great place to eat.

By Darren S |

In a town where well priced food can be hard to find, this little cafe has good food, great service and a warm atmosphere. So if you are staying at a big city hotel and want a decent meal at a decent price, this is close to Union Square.

Great place for dining

By nigruk |

Great place for eating generally. We had breakfast and dinner and both times service and food was of a high standard for the US. Nice surroundings and music too. It is popular so you may have to wait but I think it’s worth it. As with all things in SFO it is very expensive but so are all the poor dining places so at least you get good food here.

Great food!

By 758scrapper |

This is a very small place and very popular so be prepared to wait a bit. The service is excellent and they keep people moving. It is a bit crowded, but the food is worth it. I especially loved the corned beef hash!

Most to go there.

By Fausto R |

Love the place, I stay 5 days at San Francisco, every day I have breakfast there, delicious, the best of the place was the service, ask for Consuelo she is the best in the place.

Good food and quick service

By Barbara G |

We had breakfast here twice. The service and food came very quickly. Great attention to fill drinks. Not super busy. Food was good but not extraordinary. Solid meal. Happy to eat there again if looking for regular breakfast food. Very nice atmosphere.

Tasty start to the day

By Louise F |

Tasty food, different omelettes, more savoury than sweet, friendly and efficient service, loads of choice, handy for union square
