We have now been here 3 or 4 times. I would say this is priced a bit high but it has great quality and a wonderful location. The first time I had the Thai chicken and we shared some Sushi. 7 people all enjoyed their meals. Thus the return trips. Good drinks also. Service is very good If you can get the deck you will have a wonderful view of the harbor.

We ate at Roy's while saying at the Marriott Marquis Marina for our anniversary. It has been a lot of years since we ate there but we were not disappointed. We had a lovely anniversary card at our booth overlooking the marina and Gilbert, our server did an excellent job of taking care of us. We started with the Local Greens Salad and shared the Parmesan Bacon Crusted Sea Bass, both were excellent. We were surprised by the arrival of a "Roy's Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé" to top off our celebration and enjoy with our coffee. A popular place, so reservations are a good idea and they are also open for lunch Fri-Sun. It was too cold during our visit but they have a nice patio as well.

We went here for my husband's birthday while on vacation in San Diego. The food was amazing. he had the seafood sampler with lobster, shrimp, and scallops, and I had the 4 fish sampler which was great. AMEX also had a promotion if we spent $100 (not difficult) we got $25 back :>) The food was amazing and the server was excellent. We had a great view of the sunset and marina and a complimentary desert. Highly recommended.

Start with a Mai Tai.....always a good idea in a Hawaiian restaurant. I've been to other locations and I admit, we were here for an early dinner having driven into town from afar. Service was attentive but not clingy...excellent food and portions were aplenty. Great tasting menu (Chef's menu) and could have sat and looked at the tiki torches but the mall (under construction) curbed the Hawaiian appeal. Great fish though - can't go wrong.

The patio is lovely for both lunch and dinner. We loved the location which is right on the boardwalk overlooking the marina. The food was good but a bit overpriced. You’re paying for the view.

This restaurant was very nice. I had the calamari and it is done like a Chinese dish and looked as great as it tasted. The view is definitely a plus. It is a more expensive restaurant but worth it!

Restaurant décor and service is very good. For the price charged, the creativity, the sophistication and the taste that goes with the food is not up to par.

We arrived on Dec. 29th with a reservation. The hostess seated us at a table by the kitchen. We requested a table by the window, several of which were available. She replied they were being used by people who had checked in earlier?? There was confusion from the time we arrived. Two servers tried to give us service. Both asked the same questions about the menu. My husband wanted to order a scotch. One server said there was a scotch list on the menu....not there. He then went to find a scotch list...not able to do so. He verbally listed some options...we declined as this was unacceptable. We ordered a bottle of wine. The wrong bottle was delivered. After a significant wait, the right bottle was served. The server obviously was unaware of proper wine etiquette and poured before one of us tasting. At this point, we were ready to leave. After a long wait, our order was taken. We received the bill before the wine was poured/finished. It appears the service model at this location requires re: evaluation. We have dined MANY times at various locations of Roys and were very disappointed at our experience at this location.

I had dinner with a group one night and by myself another night while at the Marriott for a conference. I had Filet Mignan with truffle fries $55.00, luscious chocolate dessert $17.00 and 2 nice glasses of wine for $100.00 apron. Service was great both nights. It was a very delicious meal and my rare Filet was perfectly cooked! I had lovely view of the Marina and would return again if in San Diego!

I have eaten in several Roy's since Marriott has them in several of their conference hotels. Thi sone is old and worn and has not been updated in years. It was expensive (main courses exceeded $50) and the food was greasy and did not taste fresh. I would not eat at this restaurant again.

We sat by the bar for the Aloha hour. The tempura-crusted ahi roll and the crispy wok-fried shrimp tempura were good. The Szechuan spiced pork ribs that has been our go-to dish for many years was not as good as it was but still satisfied our palates. Service was slow and the bartender nearly mixed up our bill, but this won't stop us from returning to have another meal at one of our favorite restaurants.

I made a reservation via Roy's website for 9:15pm on Dec 31 2018. Showed up on time. Entered the ice cold building and was seated in an ice cold dining room. I cannot even begin to explain how disappointed we were. I have been to many Roy's including San Francisco, Maui, Palm Springs (area) and La Jolla even before this particular date. I had up to then, been very pleased. After we were seated, the staff explained that the furnace wasn't working and wouldn't be working for the evening. We had to keep our coats on for comfort. The staff offered apologies and seemed generally unhappy. It was NYE and finding another restaurant open for a meal would have been a task so we felt as if this would be the lesser of two evils. We should have ordered out for pizza or Chinese. Positives: The food we ordered was cooked appropriately and tasted good. Negatives: For a NYE menu, it lacked sparkle and certainly lacked the usual amazing chocolate selections they are known for, LAVA CAKE. NOT ON THE MENU for NYE. To make matters worse, many of the desserts were cold selections. I realize this isn't something they could predict. The staff never once offered to comp even the desserts in lieu of the cold facility. The entire collection of patrons had their coats on, including grown men. I cannot say I enjoyed the meal nor the evening. Although I was so very much looking forward to a special evening with my special person, it was anything but special. Unfortunately, because the staff didn't attempt to recover the disappointment (yes, I politely expressed disappointment) I will no longer be a customer for Roy's. Nor will I suggest to friends they dine at a Roy's. I hope they find a way to trouble-shoot a non working HVAC system. OR to pick up the phone at 4pm when they knew it wasn't going to be fixed and let the patrons with reservations know the situation. Disappointed in SF

I’ll start off by saying the service was wonderful, which is the reason this review isn’t one star. Our server was so sweet and apologetic. The food and how long it took to get it were our major issues. We came to Roy’s for our 3rd wedding anniversary;m, which happened to be in thanksgiving this year. We made our reservation well over in a week in advance because we wanted ti pick where we thought would be the best place in town to celebrate. Upon arriving we were very promptly seated which was nice. After being seated for just a bit the appetizer came out. It was a sad little Cesar salad, nothing special. Just small basic salad overloaded with dressing and a couple croutons. Then after that we waited for well over an hour for our dinner. Our reservation was at 5:30 because we have a toddler and wanted to eat in plenty of time to put her down to sleep by her bedtime. After we were seated we ordered almost immediately because we already knew what we wanted. But when 6:50 pm came around and dinner still had not arrived yet we were a bit frustrated. The baby was super upset from having to wait so long. I asked if they had bread or something because she was getting fussy, but they said no, they got rid of it due to Covid safety concerns because it’s a finger food? Makes absolutely zero sense. So my husband ended up having to take the baby outside to walk around and with it getting closer to us being there an hour and half and no food. We were really patient and nice to the staff because we knew it wasn’t their fault. They had to work the holiday and the management obviously packed the restaurant too full for the staff they had to be able to handle it. But I ended up having to get up and walk and go find our waitress and let her know we couldn’t wait any longer that it was almost 7 and though we were hungry we needed to leave to find other food and put the baby down. They then immediately brought the food out. The thanksgiving dinner was a small “upscale?” portion. Tiny and didn’t taste good. The stuffing was gross couldn’t even make out was the heck was in it. Then the veggies were just three sad little string beans and two carrots. The turkey was the only thing that was almost good. And even that wasn’t amazing. Mine had a bunch fat on the ends. Didn’t even know that was possible. So we paid $137 with tip ( no drinks) for two mediocre salads, two small crappy turkey dinners and two small desserts. Can not say we will ever return. Was incredibly disappointed to have chosen this place for our anniversary and thanksgiving dinner.

We had lunch here during a break in the Convention we were attending. Good food we had the butterfish and the beef ribs. We specially loved the pineapple upside down cake. A bit pricey but nice views of the water.

I generally am easy to please- but this restaurant has to close down and re-think itself. It owns a beautiful space and some great views- but the kitchen and help are a mess. I can't blame the manager- she is facing a tsunami of problems and she tried to help us- she ended up bringing us our meal- and our server seemed experienced- but he disappeared. We waited an hour and a half after our salad and drinks- When we finally got the manager's attention she got us our meal- but it was not as ordered and everything was cool to cold. Moreover, the pork ribs and ahi were soaked in sauce - too sweet, too thick, too salty- pretty inedible. We were compted- but we had to ask for it. Anything good? The Ceasar salad was ok- and the Pino Noir by the glass was nice. My Mohito was nice- but that's about it. We really should just have left but we were having a good time talking, Anyhow, it is sad to me when a brand which has taken years to establish itself fails miserably- and some of it- like shortness of staff -might be understandable. But then you restrict your reservations and only handle what you can handle well. I hope they are reading these comments and understanding that they can't go on like this.

This was the worst experience that we have had in any restaurant . We were visiting San Diego and celebrating my husband's birthday. It was Father's Day, the place was packed and obviously the restaurant staff was struggling to keep up. Our server took our order and my drink was served about 10 minutes later, then we waited for about an hour for our food. There was no contact or information from our server or anyone else among the restaurant staff. Several times we tried to catch the attention of our server and after several unsuccessful attempts, my husband went to talk to her to ask if we would get our food soon. She offered to call the manager which my husband thought unnecessary, instead he told her if she could please get our food otherwise we would just leave and go somewhere else. About 10 minutes later the food had not arrived instead the manager arrived and started to accuse my husband of having complained to the server instead of him. His attitude was unpleasant and threatening. When my husband apologized for having complained to the server, the manager continued to be confrontational. My husband said that we would leave and asked the manager for the check for my drink. While we were waiting for the check still sitting at the table some food arrived, we then explained to the server that we were just waiting for a check for my drink. We then got up and waited for the check by the entrance. The manager brought us the check, which included the charge for my drink, which we expected but also for the order that we had canceled with the manager. The manager refused to remove the charge, however we decided to pay the entire bill so that we could leave the restaurant and end this unpleasant situation. We will never go to any Roy's restaurants again!

Checked in at 7:15pm, dinner was served at 8:30pm. Waiters were disorganized and overwhelmed. Food was ok, not special.

Overall bad experience. Disorganized restaurant, low quality food and waitress who had no attention to her customers. We ordered 2 soups as a starter which were ok but cold and two udon noodles pasta with shrimp. They only served us one plate and when we sent the plate back as we asked for 2, the original plate came back with the extra order but it was of course cold by then. The food was also mediocre and overly salty. Also our wine glasses had traces of previous customer’s lips and one of my forks was dirty. Overly prized for quality of the food and service. I am not going back.

We were on time for our reservation but ended up waiting over 45 minutes for our table. They sent us outside to the bar to get a drink but the bartender was so deep in the weeds that we were there for 20 minutes and no service. We were about ready to leave when our table was finally ready. Right from the start the manager came by the table to apologize which was great. Then he comped us a bottle of wine and an app which was even nicer. He was apologetic and really showed that he appreciated us waiting. Apps and dinner were really good - interesting flavors and combinations. Not sure it is worth the very high price tag.

I really enjoyed the pre fixe meal with salmon so that I could try a variety of food. The sauce that came with the salmon was very flavorful and as much as I tried to avoid the rice, I couldn't help but to mix the rice with the sauce to enjoy it all. The mango dessert was the best part of the meal. Generous portion and decadent. Overall, the meal was pricey m, especially for lunch, but tasty. Only negative is that I was the first diner in the restaurant and it was so hot inside. I was sweating until the dessert arrived and I could feel relief of the air conditioning.

My friend on the east coast told me that even though this was a chain restaurant I should check it out. So we did and my vegetarian dish was amazingly tasty! Tofu with rice and veggies. My husband had chicken rolls and loved them.

While staying at the Marriott had lunch here, Had fish tacos…very small. Taste OK. Also the Tempura shrimp salad…cloying and unable to finish.Drinks OK. Ambience not appealing. Parts of the restaurant appears not well maintained. Not worth the cost.

I went to this Roy’s location twice in one week. The first time, because I was invited as a guest and the second time for a retirement get together. I was surprised that my girlfriend suggested that we eat at Roy’s but glad so that I had an idea of what to tell my co-workers about the place. Portions are small and prices are high, so do not come here expecting to be full on an entree alone. I had the Jumbo Tiger Prawns with udon noodles which was just too salty. My girlfriend had the Hibachi Grilled Atlantic Salmon which she was satisfied with. We decided to share dessert-Pineapple Upside Down Cake. We ate outside on the patio which was nice, because it was dark inside for 4 o’clock in the afternoon plus the view of the water & boats was nice. As for my second time there, we were a group of 12. I warned my friends about the Jumbo Tiger Prawns. We asked about happy hour and shocked to find out this location didn’t have one! Couldn’t believe what I was hearing. We ordered appetizers, and all was good. I decided to order their Misoyaki Butterfish. It was good but not as exciting as you would expect a signature dish to be...My husband got the prie fixed meal-Taste of Japan which we thought was a good deal- a three for one( appetizer, entree, dessert). Everyone was just satisfied, and we all had the same consensus-expensive. Come here if you have money to burn, and if you’re hungry do eat a three course meal. Also, you’re just paying for eating on the waterfront, so make sure you eat outside on the patio.

I hosted a party of 8. It was the worst non caring service i ever experienced. They started with “we only have half the kitchen staff”. They went on to say we dont have bread, carrots, rice, and almost halve the items on the menu. We waited 1.5 hours with nothing on our table. They simply did not care to help make our night out a good experience. This was the worst kind of customer recovery possible. I will never return.

Curry lobster bisque is not to be missed. Grilled swordfish is always a winner here. Desserts are truly a treat here.

Went first time while on business convention and staying at Marriot Marina. Loved it so much went back twice when on vacation the following week. Food excellent on all 3 occasions - scallops, shrimp, steak and lamb. Wine choice good and best mai tai we had all week. Pineapple upside down cake superb. Service attentive but not intrusive. Good job we live in UK not San Diego or I think I would be there every night!!

I had 5:30pm dinner reservations. I wanted to sit by the window because the sun was about to set. There were maybe six open tables by the window. And the hostess sat me on the second tier. She said the table were for reservations. And I had a reservation. Anyways, I had the special that night. The food was just a bit spicy for my taste. I liked the lobster potstickers. But I loved the upside down pineapple cake. My waiter was friendly, but I guess he was quite busy. I had to wait for my coke to be refilled and even had to wait for the bill.

Stopped by for a cocktail and appetizer. The wavy sliders were to die for, so juicy and flavorful. Excellent service staff as well.

We had a great meal before attending a concert at the Rady Shell. Our waitress Nichole was excellent, answered our questions about the menu and didn’t rush us to order or finish. We ate outside in the patio with a view of San Diego Bay and the ambiance was perfect. Highly recommend!

I’ve wanted to come to Roy’s for years after reading about and walking past the Hawaii location. We went for our one big meal of the day early afternoon. Had a window table inside - fabulous view and people watching! There was one other table inside and a few outside. Lots of staff, all who were very friendly. We started with the appetizer canoe which has a variety of appetizers. Lobster potstickers - like how they were cooked, lobster tasting sauce, not sure what was inside them. Ribs - Szechuan style and yummy! To die for sushi! And very good chicken spring rolls. Shared a shellfish trio of a small lobster tail, three shrimp and a scallop. Over bok choy and mashed potatoes with yummy sauces for all appetizers and the main dish. Food was good, but very pricey for what you received, service was good but I just get a feeling that because of the location they don’t have to try as hard. Nothing I can exactly pinpoint, but meh. I’ll give it another go around though. Hmmm, maybe I should try the one in Honolulu…….

Roy’s is right on the water and as always, the food is delicious! We enjoyed the jalapeño margaritas and pina coladas. The fish was fresh; butterfish is always the right fish to order if it’s available! The chocolate dessert was moist and spectacular.

First, the waiter was great. But the food was quite bland and uninteresting compared to the menu description. Also, it was quite busy and the staff didn’t seem to know how to handle a crowd which I found hard to believe since it’s next to the convention center,

I took my wife to Roy's Restaurant on the Waterfront in San Diego for her lite Birthday Dinner, and we enjoyed it. We were greeted so nicely by Liz the Hostess who is always very nice, as she sat us at a window seat where we had a great view of the boats on the Waterfront. Kimberly our server was so nice also and had a very bubbly attitude as she said Happy Birthday to my wife 10 different times during our dinner. My wife started her meal with a Jalapeno Margarita which was very tasty. She then had the Big Eye Tuna Poke which had Avocado, Inamona Jus, and Wonton Chips. My wife really enjoyed the Poke. I started my meal with a delicious Wedge Salad, which had Heirloom Tomatoes, Red Onions, Eggs, Applewood Bacon, with Blue Cheese Dressing. We then shared two different plates of food. The Canoe for Two, which has Szechuan Ribs, Spicy Tuna Roll, Lobster Potstickers, and Crispy Chicken Spring Rolls. This Canoe is so tasty, and is perfect for two people. We also shared an order of Szechuan Spiced Pork Ribs, which is Smoked and Glazed in Roy's Original Mongolian Sauce. The Ribs are so tender and the sauce flavor is one of a kind Good ! For dessert we also shared a Pineapple Upside Down Cake with Caramelized Pineapple, Baked with Brown Sugar Pound Cake and some coconut ice cream. It was delicious ! Ryan Wilbanks the Managing Partner at Roy's, came by our table twice during our meal to make sure we were happy and that everything was good. If you want to relax and enjoy the Waterfront views in San Diego, and have so great tasting food, this is the place to go. You will not be disappointed !

Loved this place! Wish I had made reservations here for a birthday celebration. The food and service was great! Beautiful view of the Marina!

Right next to convention center overlooking San Diego Bay. Food was excellent. Interesting cocktails. Great appetizer sampler platter. I had their special Alaskan black cod. Wife got Hawaiian Ono. Both well prepared. Pineapple upside down-cake for dessert. New Zealand Sauvignon blanc & an Oregon Pinot Noir wine choices. Good/ friendly service.

Still in shock at how bad the service at Roy's is. Sat on the patio and asking for more water seemed like a major inconvenience. The food is good - shortrib was fantastic - but the service is so bad that it overshadows all of it. I would expect better at Applebee's. If I didn't have some discounts, I would have felt completely ripped off. Our serve was more content texting and folding napkins than serving his tables. Sad.

Strolling along the prom back from visiting Everlasting Peace and every gift shop on the water front in desperate need of a drink we called on Roy in his Hawaiian fusion bar for cocktails, a good choice. A friendly greeting, a bar side seat and entertains locals all happy to involve us in the conversation, I have to say I like the San Diego vibe! First off we had a jalapeño marguerite and a cosmopolitan both great however the jalapeño marguerite was very spicy beware! So I swapped back to a standard one and my wife tried a more exotic vodka cocktail again both great and after a couple more we weaved our way back along the prom to our hotel. Got to be done, enjoy!

I was in town for a conference. The last time I ate at Roy's in San Diego, I enjoyed it so I thought I could not go wrong by eating there. I had a Roys Island Mai Tai which had too much ice so it became watery fairly quickly. The presentation was beautiful. I ordered Lobster Potstickers and the Aloha Roll. For some reason the server brought me Lobster Rolls instead. The rolls were good. Eventually the Lobster Potstickers came out. I was not impressed by the Lobster Potstickers. The Aloha Roll was more bland thatn I expected. The place was loud because there were several loud and large groups dining.

We were there as guests of a vendor at a conference. I was surprised when we walked in at 7 and the place was basically empty. The food was pretty good. The wine list extensive. The service also pretty good. None of it 5 star, but all pretty good. Lost mojo?

This was a really fun dining experience. Located right by the docks you can walk out and see the sunset. My friends and I came here for a large bachelor party dinner. For the appetizers, we ordered everything from the lobster potstickers, pork ribs, tuna poke, Auntie Leis Aloha roll and the lobster bisque. All of the seafood here was prepared well and tasted so fresh. The Aloha roll and poke are appetizer must orders. For the entrees, we ordered the Misoyaki Butterfish, Atlantic Salmon, Sea scallops and the filet mignon. All of the entrees were just melt in your mouth. The meats and seafood were tender and delicious. Seasonings were on point and so were all of the sauces. The butterfish reminded me of Nobu's miso marinated Black cod. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here. Great vibes and service was on point. All of our orders came out 100% accurate. Highly recommend if you want some Asian fusion and Hawaiian cuisine.

All you need to know is that I ordered a glass of champagne and when the server returned he offered me a warm glass of champagne AND a separate glass of ice. yes,...a glass of ice. Evidently they forgot to put more champagne in the cooler. This is all you need to know about the standards of this restaurant. Its a shame because the location is impeccable. It actually feels like you're in Maui or Honolulu,....until the warm glass of champagne arrives of course.

We had purchased a deal where we got an appetizer to share so we got the Lobster Bisque, it was one of the best I have ever had with big chucks of lobster in it, two entrees we got the macadamia nut mahi mahi and exchanged the potatoes for the black coconut rice which was delicious, and the steak which was not as good as expected, it came with mac and cheese but did not have a lot of flavor, then two deserts we had the pineapple upside down cake and the molten chocolate lava cake, they were both very good. Overall a great meal, should have chosen the filet over the the more expensive steak.

Three of us came here for a business lunch, and we all had the pre-fixed menu. I had the salmon for entree, and it was well prepared, but the dessert - coconut panna cotta was heavenly! The location can’t be beat — Eating lunch in between sessions right by the marina with the sun giving you energy for the afternoon’s session!

We have visited Roy’s several times in Hawaii and always had a fabulous experience with a delicious meal. We were excited to see that there was a Roy’s right beside our hotel, the Marriott Marquis in San Diego. We decided that as it was the last night of our trip, we would take our kids for a nicer dinner. Unfortunately Roy’s was incredibly disappointing. The food was mediocre at best - fish was cold, rice was cold, and when we told the server, she never even returned to our table to address it. The furniture was old and worn (see pictures attached). For a restaurant charging what they are to be kept in this condition is disgraceful - holes in their bench of the booth, etc. We will not be returning.

Just a miserable experience. We sat outside, which was a mistake. Their umbrellas are small and can in no way shade from the sun as it sets. We got pummeled by that. We had the calamari as an app, which was average. One person wanted the calamari as an entree. 30 minutes later, waiter notifies us "we are out of it". It was Friday at 5 PM! Our food took over 1.5 hours to arrive. No real apology for that. The sea bass was fishy and undercooked. He brought the wrong type of shrimp (curry) which made one of the other diners sick and she had to leave. What a mess - will never go back.

My wife and I went to Roy's Waterfront Restaurant again and Again the food and Service was First Class ! Chis our server had a great personality and came by our table several time to make sure our meal was the best. My wife and I shared a Lobster California Roll, a bowl of Crispy Wok Fried Shrimp Tempura, and our favorite of all times at Roy's the Szechuan Spiced Pork Ribs with Roy's Original great Mongolian BBQ Sauce. Ryan Wilbanks the Managing Partner at Roy's Waterfront came by our table to make sure everything was going well. Roy's food is Great, their Service is Great, and the views out the window of the Harbor is Great !

Went here to take my husband's colleagues who are from out of town. They were able to accommodate us (10 pax) with a day's heads up and overlooking the water. Although it was for dinner, it still gave our guest quite an ambiance. Everything we ordered hit the spot including their sampler appetizer (Canoe for Two). Just gave us enough to try out without being full for the main course. Of course when at Roy's, one must try a seafood entree. I had the Roasted Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi. It lived up to my expectations! The Mahi mahi was perfect and not dry. My husband tried the Local Sea Bass and again cooked to perfection. Service was superb even though they were busy with a convention in town. So definitely a must try!

Wow- where to start? I guess, DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT! I tend to write only good reviews but 22 hrs later I have to tell the truth. We had a table of 4 for an 8pm reservation sitting outside. The 1st issue was the server telling us the sushi roll prep was running way behind. So we placed our orders with no apps or sushi and enjoyed our drinks hoping for a great experience over Labor Day weekend. ~after 45 minutes no salad was delivered to my wife (others did not order salad) ~10 minutes later server delivered the salad and my wife’s dinner order (an appetizer) “stating it was delivered to hold us over because kitchen was behind” ~1hr 15 min later server said the kitchen was behind and apologized ~We noticed other tables that sat before us (before 8pm) still had no entrees ~1hr 40 min later we asked the server if he could please tell us when we could expect the food and he said “it’s probably not coming, and the kitchen will not tell me anything.” ~At 9:55 pm we asked to speak to the manager. The server said “she probably will not come over, she is busy” “If you all want to go ahead and leave, that is ok” ~At 10 pm the server said the manager was speaking with another table and will come by afterwards. ~At this point there are only 6 tables of patrons in both the inside and outside of the restaurant. ~At 10:05 the manager came over and apologized for the delay and experience and said “she would go into kitchen and check on our food.” There was no explanation of the issue, nor any attempt to make it right. My wife inquired “what is the issue, there is hardly anyone here and you are not busy.” The “manager” scowled at her and said “yes?”…as if to say no kidding. That is when we took the waiter’s advice and left. I understand things happen during this labor-shortage pandemic, I get it. But the appropriate protocol would be to be honest with the patrons. If that was conveyed in the beginning, we would understand and look elsewhere instead of sitting there for 2 hrs. The next day, I received an apologetic email asking us to please return and give them another chance. With only 3 nights left on our vacation, why would I risk the chance of another dinner evening ruined. Furthermore, I believe the email effort is an attempt to get me to not tell the story.

Business lunch for 40. Sliders, beef dumplings, lobster dumplings, crab cakes all were very good. Nice room towards the bay had great views. Service was very attentive.

Service was impeccable, waiters were thoughtful and tried to not waste food left over by our event. Ribs were delicious

Enjoyed the food and service but restaurant property is quite dilapidated and tired - needs a refresh. Also, while the location is waterfront, quite a long walk through the Marriott Hotel to get to the restaurant. This location coasting off of its well known brand.

Roy's is a very classy, upscale restaurant in the back of the cool looking harbor Marriott Hotel. The crowd is well dressed, affluent but the atmosphere is still relaxed, pleasant and not stuffy. I really liked the starter wedge salad with bleu cheese and veges. It was very fresh and crunchy lettuce. My main were their signature sushi rolls named after a chef there and a Hawaiian city...very tasty and fun to eat. The dessert was a chocolate cake filled with chocolate syrup and with vanilla bean ice cream and raspberry sauce-a great dessert. Service by Jaime and Spencer was "A" quality. The atmosphere is marvelous with a view of the yachts on the water in a very comfortable, spacious restaurant. Highly recommended for class, service and fine style as well as food.

Not owned by Roy part of the group. Restaurant was dark! Watched the sun set, beautiful Needed my flashlight to see the menu. Same as most Roy's. Restaurant was busy for a Monday night Food was delicious. My Sangria was tasty. Glad we came but turn on some lights.

I never mind paying a premium for amazing food and service, but I didn't feel like we received a 5 star experience. Calamari appetizer was amazing, but a little light on the dipping sauce. One of us tried the mahi mahi blackened, rather than macadamia nut encrusted. It was small, a little dry and seasoned, but not blackened. I know they should be able to do blackened because blackened ahi was on the menu. They missed on this $43 entree. The Roys trio was very good, except for the part where I substituted blackened mahi for blackened ahi. Same disappointment. However, the butterfish and salmon were absolutely scrumptious. That was $45. The short rib entree was melt in your mouth tender and also very flavourful for $37. The pineapple upside down cake was delicious beyond words. Nice dessert. Service was good (Pat) but he should have scraped the calamari crumbs off the tablecloth before our food arrived. Big oversight. Total bill was $167 before tip. For that money I should have no regrets, but unfortunately I did.

We had a great meal before attending a concert at the Rady Shell. Our waitress Nichole was excellent, answered our questions about the menu and didn’t rush us to order or finish. We ate outside in the patio with a view of San Diego Bay and the ambiance was perfect. Highly recommend!

We recently visited this branch at their San Diego location (Located at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina) for early dinner and was very disappointed. We burned $130 and left still hungry to the Grande Lounge at the Hyatt nearby to dine again! The food was mediocre, servings were anemic, the place is overhyped, prices we ridiculously inflated, rude hostess, and the service was a meh! They also made an upcharge error on the final bill. For appetizer, we had the Kung Pao Calamari ($16) which was very sweet and contained about 6 pieces of calamari. The Lakanilau Roll ($18) wasn't any better, it contained 6-7 pieces of sushi roll topped with a sliver of beef. The Classic Four ($48) tasted very good but was way overpriced. The portions were of appetizer-size for the price. For our children, we ordered the Salmon and the Short Ribs from the Kids' menu ($12.95 each). They were both bite or taster size protein and one contained mash potato and the second some rice. One of the kid's plate was charged at $14.95 and they also charged us for the kids' Sundae which was supposed to be part of their meal according to their menu. We don't recommend this location although the Anaheim location is much better.

My husband and I stayed at the Marriott and landed late so sat at the outside bar Friday night and had an awesome experience! The bartender's were very friendly and overlooking the marina was a plus. We ordered tuna poke, aloha roll, and my husband's favorite lobster potstickers. We felt so comfortable here that this was our night cap every night before returning to room. The general manager Sean MacArthur spoke with us a couple of the nights and was very friendly! Next time we are back we'll visit Roy's!

We arrived a little early for our reservation, but it was no problem. The service from everyone was terrific. Angela was our erver annd was so perfectly attentive. Always stopping by briefly as we had great cocktails, a shrimp appetizer, rack of lamb and scallops. All prepared expertly. Definitely will be back next time in San Diego. I would give 5 stars but the rack of lamb was a little overdone which the replaced immediately. The second was perfect!

Dinner for 4 colleagues attending professional conference was fun. Patio was pleasant with heaters going. We had a wide variety of foods from soups to fish to braised ribs. Food was excellent. Servings were small. Service was good, but food took forever to arrive. Price was about as expected.

Great modern style restaurant on the marina at the Marriott Marquis. Good views. Very busy and expensive. Fantastic seafood fusion menu. Good service. No dissapointments.

Where yesterday there for dinner with a group of 30. W/o prior notice we were seated outside despite chilly temperture. Staff was very obviously overwhelmed with us. Took painful long until we got food. Servers were only seldom available to take orders for new drinks. Food was cold. W finally left this place early to spend the rest of the evening somewhere else,

What could be better than having a fish dinner right next to the bay. Great location and great food. I have tried there other locations and have never had a bad meal. I am happy to say this location does it well. The staff was great and food was even better. This is place to try for seafood.

Worth a visit - good choices on menu, wonderful location, perfunctory service, and decent execution. Convenient if you are at convention center

We enjoyed the food and the location / ambience - great attentive service. Lobster roll sushi was amazing as were the lobster pot stickers and the BBQ ribs with the mongolian sauce were really good. Enjoyed all the fishes in the 4 fish offering - we will be back again. . .

An interesting concept. Chinese chef (with Szechuan dishes on the menu)...at a Hawaiian concept restaurant....with an Asian fusion intent. Some of the dishes worked out nicely (the braised ribs and lobster pot stickers were quite nice). Others we didn’t like so much (chicken spring rolls kind of plain and the dairy free ice cream and pineapple upside down cake..not so much). Our waitress was great. Despite having a few challenges. The group was first told their selected bottle of wine was sold out. However, a few minutes later, it was revealed it was available so they brought it out. One of the appetizers was incorrectly brought out...but the promptly replaced with the correct one. A dish was dropped and smashed upon clearing right beside our table! Maybe just a rough night for her. But her attitude and service was good - so it didn’t matter much. The restaurant decor, furniture and design is quite dated and a little tired. Could use an update for sure. We dined on a Saturday evening. Group of 6 business people. Restaurant was busy and hopping.

We went to Roy's on the waterfront for an early dinner and enjoyed the beautiful Ocean views. Max our server greeted us, and was very nice as he took our orders and came back several times taking care of all of our needs. My wife and I shared some of their delicious and so tasty Szechuan Spiced Pork Ribs which are Smoked and Glazed in Roy's Original Mongolian Sauce. We also enjoyed so tasty and Crispy Chicken Spring Rolls with tasty Citrus Black Bean Dragon Sauce. We then shared a yummy Lobster California Sushi Roll. For dessert we enjoyed a freshly cooked to order Pineapple Upside Down Cake with Caramelized Pineapple, Baked with Brown Sugar on Pound Cake. Roy's is a great place to relax and have a very tasty meal.

Alex was an excellent server-- professional and guest centered. That was the highlight of a very disappointing, over priced pre-fixe lunch. Food quality was not like Roy's the way I know it at other cities. Next to Marriott Marquis and the Convention Center, the poor food quality probably explains why at lunch time, I was one of 2 customers. Stay away--go to Marina Kitchen instead or Sally's at the Hyatt.

Waitress had zero personality and even less warmth. Table next to us was bunch of, foul-mouthed, extremely loud drunks [not eating-just slamming drinks] who were being over-served. Drunks kept standing up right next to our table to loudly talk on cell phone blocking view of sunset. Not the way we wanted to spend out 26th Anniversary dinner. When we politely asked phone drunk to talk elsewhere, he ignored us and when manager asked how our dinner was...we pointed out the issue and he said he would address it but did absolutely nothing but go and hide. The actual waitstaff who filled your glasses and brought you bread etc were fantastic. Food was fantastic. Outdoor seating/view was fantastic as long as slobbering drunks aren't next to you again dropping f-bombs every other word and discussing who they would or would not "F+#%" and all the details as to 'why'. Bottom line--would not go back. Bad experience. There is just as good food without the sloppy drunks and bad waiters/managers at other restaurants in town

Very good. Delicious food. Great martinis. Exceptional view. A bit pricey but understandable. Very good service.

Amazing flavours. Really enjoyed the szechuan calamari, the Linalau rolls (forgot the correct name) the tomahawk steak, and the fish taster dishes.

30 minutes from check-in at reservation time to first greeting by server. By that time we had our entire drink, app, entree and dessert order picked out. Still took almost two hours after that. Mgt blamed the nice weather (totally forseeable days in advance) and being short staffed to handle the outdoor demand. Even after giving up outdoor, didn't seem to help. The food is ok and if you enjoy the hawaiian fusion stables, still a good visit, just recommend you reserve 30 minutes earlier than planned and make sure you don't have to go to a concert or a ball game afterwards. Just call it an evening.

I've been to Roy's in Hawaii, Anaheim and San Diego. The food is always amazing and service is outstanding. I'd recommend this place to anyone!

Best restaurant in the Bay. We have enjoyed Roy’s in Hawaii and we were very excited to visit this one in San Diego. Did not disappoint. We ordered sushi rolls, mahi-mahi, salmon and the ribs. Everything was perfect. Our server was so friendly and answered any questions we had. The evening was amazing and I HIGHLY recommend Roy’s. Can’t wait to return.

First time here on the water front near our hotel. A short walk from the Hilton and we were seated under the stars with a heater taking the chill out of the air. Waiting on us was Chris who was kind, nice, knowledgeable about the menu and on point with his service. A bottle of 2014 Joseph Phelps Chardonnay started our night. Smooth earthy tones, nice tickle on the tongue, and refreshingly good!!! Chris recommended the Canoe for two appetizer. Two pieces of each delicious lobster pot stickers, Szechuan ribs, spicy tuna roll, and crispy chicken spring rolls. Crunchy, hot, fresh and delish started our Asian/Hawaiian dinner. Followed by the filet and lobster tail for my love, and I had the jumbo tiger prawns with the udon noodles. Both entrees were flavorful, grilled just right and satisfying the taste buds!!! Overall, great service by Chris, great tasty food and a perfect bottle of wine. Great ambience and a short walk to the Hilton!!! We will be back!!! Enjoy!!! 🍽🍽🍽🍷🍷🍷

This was supposed to be a special night, unfortunately lack of clarity and knowledge about their menu and food produced an expensive experience that was an epic fail. The marriage proposal was successful but all else was less than I would expect from Roy’s and compared to previous experiences at this restaurant. My first clue the night was going sideways was when the waiter didn’t know the difference between still and sparkling water, so we wanted a bottle of still, but drank sparkling. Please note, if you are Celiac like me then move on and find another place!! I knew in advance there were three options marked gluten free on the menu and I was willing to embrace those options, which meant no sushi or appetizer options. Strangely, when I ordered the first a wedge salad the waiter returned after the kitchen told him it was NOT gluten free and would be merely a dry piece of lettuce due to the blue cheese crumble dressing. So, it was replaced with the Maui salad, not marked gluten free?! Next, my entree a butterfish with grilled bok Choy and rice tasted like it was bathed in teriyaki sauce. I took one bite then waited a few minutes for waiter so I could double check, which he did and assured me it was safe🤷♀️. Then, they brought my husband a double espresso and when he asked for sugar and a spoon they brought a tacky coffee shop container with a variety of packets, along with a SOUP spoon, not fine dining at all!! My double vodka cranberry was clear, no cran only vodka… did not drink it! Kicker, offered us a special treat for our engagement… a brownie and ice cream… I pointed out to waiter who annoyingly kept calling us friend and twice repeated his fake friendly spiel to us, that brownies aren’t gluten free and then proceeded to educate him on how anything with wheat, rye, or barley is not gluten free. Overall, my $230 dinner for two was an epic fail. I understand Covid issues, but this was a fail from the front and back of the house! This was not FINE dining!

Decided to give this place a try since we were staying at the adjoining hotel. I don’t necessarily regret it, but there’s better choices in the area. Dinner was fairly average with nothing particularly special about our meal. We went to the trouble of making reservations which turned out, weren’t really needed. The restaurant was about 2/3 empty on a Saturday night. One thing which was particularly annoying was that the staff seated everyone close together in one section of the restaurant. This seemed to be done as more of a convenience to the staff rather than the customers. We were given a table next to a group of 8-10 business men, who weren’t necessarily loud but given that we were right next to them it was a bit much at times. I think we would have enjoyed the experience a bit more if they would have spread their guests evenly throughout the restaurant. My first guess is that they were trying to consolidate the diners so to cut down on cleaning later. The extra “staff wellness” charge came as a surprise as well. Supposedly, you can ask to have it removed. Rather than jumping through that hoop, I adjusted the tip down instead. Overall, overpriced, not the best service, and a disappointing meal. 3 stars, barely

I hate to say it, but I’m sort of done with Roy’s. Loved it in Hawaii, but have been to others in the states and it just feels like no one cares. Service just ok at this one, food just ok, I guess for the price I expect better. We stayed at the Marriott and it was so convenient, but in hindsight wish we would have tried some local establishments.

From start to finish, this was a treated by the staff and the restaurant like a special occasion; except it wasn't. We were just a couple out to dinner. But everyone made it a special evening. Terrific service from waitstaff; Sandy was a standout. And the food; from the Caesar to the dessert, everything was of the highest quality. Sandy suggested Roy's Trio of fish to me, and she hit it out of the park. Three different, and perfectly cooked portions of fish. Maybe the best fish dish I've had in five years. Wife's filet was perfectly marinated, seasoned, and cooked. She finally gave me one little bite...she didn't want to share... Dessert was the pineapple upside down cake; reimagined for this decade. Wow. That is all I can say. Wow. Perfect ending to a lovely meal.

Staying at the hotel so we decided to have dinner at Roy's and it was a disaster. We were seated at around 8:00. We have been snacking the whole day so we just ordered from the appetizer menu. I had the appetizer boat, my two friends had a roll and the poke and my food arrived COLD @ almost 9:00. Shrimp that was with it was rubbery, ribs were COLD. Those three items were $90. Food at the hotel was much better than what we got at Roy's. Very disappointed.

August 27, 2021 - approximately 9:00 PM - just finishing an excellent dinner, our waiter Gilbert provided very attentive and informative service. Normally, we would definitely return - however - a group of three individuals, two males and one female attempted to steal money placed on a table for dinner payment. The female and one male were distracting the wait staff and customers at the table while the other male grabbed for the money. A waiter noticed the attempt and yelled at the thief, but he was blocked by the other male and female. Thankfully, two other customers at the restaurant, possibly from a convention group in the area, stepped up and intervened. They thwarted the robbery and ensured that the thieves left the restaurant. This was accomplished non-violently and other customers thanked the men for getting involved. The problem was - one of the waitresses was yelling at one of the men who intervened for “upsetting other customers”. For an employee, unable to protect her customers from theft, but aggressive enough to yell at, rather than thank a customer for intervening to stop the theft and eliminate the threat is a disgrace. She does not belong dealing with customers.

We had a superb experience here. My spareribs were to die for. We shared a killer chocolate soufflé.

We had reservations for 6PM. Had to wait at the outside bar for 20 minutes until a table was available. The bar was a zoo and the martinis were amateur quality at best. Once seated, service was VERY slow. Vegetables on the halibut dish were cold (as in refrigerator cold). The filet mignon, ordered medium-well, was tough and stringy. I kept chewing and chewing. I had to return it and then waited another 20 minutes for another tough piece of meat. I'm really not sure it was filet mignon. I could not eat it. A customer seated behind me experienced the same issue. The bottle of red wine we ordered was refrigerator cold--the server said "It's 55 degrees, but it will warm up." It was so cold, the label was wrinkled. We had a 6PM reservation, were seated at 6:20PM and dinner completed at 8:30PM (we were not going to wait another 30 minutes for desert). An absolute rip-off and tourist trap. UPDATE: After posting this review, I was contacted by a Roy's representative who told me they were mailing me some gift cards. When I received them, I was excited to see four $50 gift cards. However, I was quickly disappointed to learn: - They are not gift cards like you buy at a store. They are Roy's in-house gift cards - All four cards expire in 120 days - Can only be used in the dining room - Can only be used to purchase dinner - Cannot be used for alcoholic beverages - Cannot be used for Aloha Hour, Mahalo Monday, Waina Wednesday - Only one card can be used per check, per table, per visit How am I supposed to use these four cards with all the restrictions in such a period of time? Roy's just added insult to injury.

A colleague and I had dinner at Roy's. We were seated by the window overlooking the Marina and water. The staff was very friendly and prompt. The food was AMAZING!! I had the Asian stuffed chicken and a house salad. It was so good. We did not order dessert as we were too full. However, I now wish I would have suffered through and ordered the lava cake. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice.

Ok, so I went here for a quick lunch as I was attending a conference at the Marriott hoping to get some sushi. Little did I know, that sushi was not on the lunch menu. So, since nothing else sounded particularly appetizing, I thought I'd try the Hawaiian version of a pulled pork sandwich. It came with a side caesar salad. The salad was good but the sandwich was on the dry side. I also wasn't too keen on the "clear bbq sauce". For what I paid, I don't think I'd check out dinner there and probably would try another restaurant before returning even though my service was good.

Disappointing. Usually have dinner here when I'm in San Diego and was wondering why I could get a reservation for a Saturday night on the same day. Our order was taken 25 minutes after seating and the food didn't arrive until 45 minutes later. I've never had filet mignon ordered medium well turn out well done. Clearly this sat too long and it was tough to chew. The lobster was kind of slimy/mushy and overall the experience was poor. Three stars only because Roy's has built up so much goodwill with me over the past 15 years, I will chalk this experience up to an off night.

We ate here prior to the San Diego Pops Concert, a short walk away. My husband and I each had the Roy's Trio which is three types of fish with three different sauces. It is wonderful. The service was O.K. The view from some of the seats is nice, looking out at boats.

Had family dinner here on Valentine's night. We were not disappointed nor wowed. I understand it was Valentine's night and most of the crowd were probably there celebrating that occasion. However our family was not. For this special night there was a special menu including 4 courses. I didn't ask nor was I told if there was a normal menu. We really weren't needing the 4 courses and I thought it really took away from the rest of the meal. Each of us had something different - filet mignon, butterfish, NY strip, and tiger shrimp. The filet was the best of the group. I was really disappointed with the butterfish. The NY strip was average and the shrimp entree was very average. The best part of dinner were the lobster potstickers and the asparagus. Overall it was a very average experience - unfortunately at a very premium price. With all the options in San Diego we would not return.

There is certainly a positive difference in this restaurant. Nice atmosphere, service with attentive staff and a spectacular menu. Most positive point for my choice: black cod from Alaska. I strongly recommend

We could see the harbor lights from our table. The service was impeccable. The seafood was outstanding. Our server deftly explained and suggested appetizers which were delicious - we had a sampler of perfect combination. The whole table was raving about the main courses each selected and sampling of desserts. Generous portions. A lovely indoor setting made it easy to enjoy our food and fellowship.

The staff welcomed the four of us even though it was close to closing. We had a nice mix of sushi, calamari and butterfish (black cod). All was well prepared and served promptly. Definite stop if you’re staying at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Harbor

I don’t have words to explain how delicious is this place. Best hawaiian restaurant in San Diego, probably in the world. Totally recommended and it worth it!!!!

What a lovely location to enjoy at the end of the day, sunset, harbor of boats and good food. We arrived at the start of dinner hour, and were quickly seated on the patio as we requested. Our server arrived promptly and took our cocktail order, plus made sure the heater was sufficient, a nice California evening, but still cool. Our overall food and service were very nice.

Seafood was fantastic. View of harbor with all the boats was nice. Lobster pot stickers and Lakanilau roll were great apps. I had the sea bass which was prepared perfectly with the veggies but portion size was small. Colleague had the ahi tuna which he enjoyed. Desserts were really good. Had upside down pineapple cake and the chocolate lava cake was really good. Service was a little slow. It is expensive but that is partly due to location at a nice hotel and being right on water.

Reminiscent of Hawaii! We’ve been to the Roy’s in Hawaii and loved it, so had to make a stop here while in San Diego. Chose this location over La Jolla for the view, and it was easier since we were staying within walking distance. Great food and drinks as always, right on the marina.

You can’t beat the view and the calamari! Second time here within the last few months- loving the “refresh” as well…love the attentiveness of the staff..staying at the Marriott so convenient as well!

Had a nice dinner here on a business trip. Outside seating overlooking the harbor was very pleasant. Normally not a huge fan of hotel restaurants but this was quite good. Recommend the shellfish sampler and a glass of Oregon Pinot Noir. Tasty lime tart for dessert. Wishing I would have tried the 20 minute prepared chocolate soufflé or pineapple upside down cake.

This was our first time at this Roy's location, we used to love the La Jolla restaurant. This one is NOT the easiest to get to! We had to park in the Marriot garage and walk through the hotel, out past the pool and down to the marina to get to Roy's! The indoor part of the restaurant is closed due to COVID but you can eat outdoors at the bar with a great view of the Marina. Chairs are a little uncomfortable, though! We both ordered the Jalapeño Margarita, which was SO sour we had to send it back to the bar. We had quite a wait for our food, too. BUT the food was amazing, as it always is at Roy's. I had the sea bass and it was moist and delicious. My husband had the short rib, and it was also fantastic. As it was our anniversary we were given a complimentary chocolate soufflé's with vanilla ice cream. Thanks, Roy's, for another memorable meal! Then after validating our parking, as we drove to the machine, it wanted $18 for one hour! Somehow the Roy's validation didn't go through, so we had to backtrack to the restaurant and ask them to try again!

Our very large party had wine, numerous appetizers, dinner, and desserts and all were AMAZING!!! Our server, Jamie, and her help staff were great as well!

Such a beautiful location right on the water-outside or inside tables that overlook the boardwalk, makes for great people watching! Friendly, attentive service (even though they were very busy) with an extensive diverse menu and an impressive wine selection. Will definitely be back- the calamari is a must (that sauce!!!!)

I’m a regular at Roy’s whenever I can find one so I am fan. I had the Roy’s Trio. Overall it was great, but I wasn’t a fan of the Butterfish. It was prepared well with a nice sauce, but the texture of the fish was a little soft for my tastes (like butter!). Having grown up in the keys eating Mahi, Grouper and Sanpper those are more my preferences for seafood. The blackened Ahi is the way to go, and don’t worry it’s NOT spicy at all.

We've been to many different Roy's locations, liked going here because we knew that they'd have a great happy hour, the food would be consistently good and the staff professional. We are so disappointed that this location missed the mark on all of these things! The host was rude and not at all friendly, the menu was limited, no more Aloha Hour, and the food was disappointing (under-cooked fish, average sides, house wine was not good). And the prices, wow, what a price increase for what you get. I know that many restaurants are struggling with limited staff, but this seemed to be more than just that.

I meet a group of of about a dozen people here for dinner. Everything from the appetizers to the main course was delicious. We sampled various appetizers. I has the NY strip with Lobster Mac and cheese, man it was cooked to perfection. The only problem was, the portion was huge. No way to eat it all. It was well worth visit.

What a great meal. The food was outstanding, the view of the port very nice & the service was also very professional. Everything e had was excellent & they also have a very good wine list. We would definitely return if in San Diego again.

Really a fabulous setting directly on the water overlooking the Marriot Marina. The boats are sweet ! If your a people watcher make sure you get a window. Oh-yea, I almost forgot to mention the food. My wife and I shared the sushi rolls - and they were excellent. Sorry, we didn’t sample the other items, so good Luck and good eating.

We only tried two items on the menu and both were not good. First, the Maui Wowie Salad (one of their signatures dishes) came to our table without the shrimp. How does that happen in a high end restaurant where the person who sends it out AND the server does not notice it missing. So when we pointed that out we get a plastic cup of rubbery poached shrimp. Yuck. The other thing was the Sunrise Roll was not fresh at all.

During a family trip we ate at Roy’s inside Marriott twice. The first experience food was okay for lunch and service was mediocre. I really wanted this restaurant to be on my top list so we decided to order out for lunch and eat inside the hotel by Starbucks. The service was horrible for pickup the hostesses were busy chatting instead of helping me. When I asked for the kids drink that came with the kids meal I ordered the man waiter who handed me my bag of meals said rudely I had to pay for the apple juice. Which I explained I did and the other waitress said oh sorry it wasn’t written down. So it was my fault the employee who took my order on the phone didn’t write the drink was apple juice. Horrible service! We would of gone for dinner since I really wanted to try the sushi but since the service was so bad we won’t be back.

The service was average, and the food was overpriced for the servings we got. There are so many restaurants to choose from in San Diego, CA that you really don't need to go to this place.

4:45pm reservation. We were there 10 minutes early and they didn’t seat us until exactly 445 it appeared immediately there was a staffing issue. Roy’s food was OK, staff there is so green they brought main course food before they cleared the appetizer plates. Waiter had no clue what to do and never said a word. Waitress tried her best, very sweet girl. Butsadly cold Seafood plate and syrupy “American Mule” really bad. Seafood plate was $55, felt like a rip off. We were very hungry so we ate it anyway. She gave me on the house desert snd coffee. The lobster pot stickers & Maui Martini were amazing! Overall tho, sorry, very poor form for your great restaurant.

Attached to the Marriott Mission Bay my husband and I had dinner at Roy’s both nights of our stay The steaks were great and service exceptional Definitely will return

Stopped here for a night cap and a snack after walking the pier for at least 2 hours. What a healthy city, so many walkers and runners. We were underdressed for sure. I was wondering if we would get a seat. It was crowded inside. We chose to sit outside because it is right across from the marina, and the heaters were on. The service was great. 3 drinks and an appetizer $68. Very nice atmosphere. Nice view looking out at the boats.

Disappointing. We were there as a party of 6 to celebrate a graduation. Service was good but very slow. Food, unfortunately, was not very good, especially considering the cost. An order of sea bass was overcooked and the fish and vegetables were barely warm when served. Mahi mahi was better, but dry. Scallops, according to the person who ordered them, were good. Ambiance was nice, despite a loud group next to us. We've been to other Roy's restaurants before which were very good. This one was not worth the money.

Loving Hawaii as we do, we also love the Hawaiian cuisine. However, over the years, we feel that Roy's is slipping and will cross it off our list for the future. We've been to four of their restaurants now (Kihei, Ka'anapali, Rancho Mirage, and San Diego), and it's just not the same. No edamene to start with anymore, and no special attention to details like they used to. For starters, even before we got in the door, there was a $16 valet charge to park the car ($50 if we hadn't gotten the ticket validated!!) My husband's Mai Tai was the weakest he's ever had, so he said. I must say though, my Mango Mojito was delicious! Our son enjoyed the stuffed Mahi Mahi, always a good safe choice. My husband ordered the Prawns, but, again was disappointed. Only three prawns on a bed of a mixed bed of some spaghetti concoction, and they were over cooked and tough. (If you've ever been to Buzz s Wharf, in Ma'alea Bay [now gone] you'd know the difference.) I chose the sampler of four fish...mahimahi, butterfish, seared ahi and salmon, which was all tasty and very filling. All of our meals were pricey ($49 each) and not worth it.

They claim to be allied with some celebrity chef here in town but, if that's true, that dude needs to hand in his toque. More likely, neither he nor anyone else is tasting what's coming out of their kitchen because it's tasteless, cold and just plain awful. So I start with the lobster bisque. Now imagine a real lobster bisque that has had a cup of water added to it and has three tiny sponges floating on it, with barely any lobster. Yep, that's their lobster bisque. This was after they failed to even serve it initially - the entree came before the soup. Now we turn to the entree. The steak was fine - not very good quality but what do you expect at a (supposed) seafood restaurant. But the dish came with lobster mac and cheese which was the most awful iteration of that dish I have ever had the displeasure of tasting. Again, imagine a good version with a 1/2 cup of water added, watery macaroni (seeing the theme yet?) that appears to be just plopped into the sauce, not cooked in it much less baked at all. It may have been the lobster bisque with more water and more lobster. I asked the inattentive waitress if this is how this side dish normally appears. She answered; "I don't know." The obvious answer is that no one is tasting a damn thing coming out of the kitchen because no one cares - not the wait staff either. It's just "throw the slop to the tourists." Well, here's hoping a few tourists (or locals) see this review and save their money and their taste buds. It's. That. Bad.

Besides the excellent bay view, there's not too much more to say about his place. The food was just okay and so was the service. It is a little pricey for lunch.

Being a native San Diegan can lead to not fully appreciating everything our beautiful city has to offer. But all it takes is a stroll along the boardwalk in Seaport Village with a stop in one of the many restaurants to remind one that there is always something fun to do. That is what led ya to Roy’s for lunch. It overlooks the yacht club and the harbor and although it was busy at lunch we didn’t wait more than 5 minutes to be seated. The menu has lots of amazing options for lunch. We had the wagyu burger and butterfish. Wow! So good! Good size portions and very flavorful! I highly recommend a visit!

We were here on a beautiful day. Both of us had salads. Flavors were passable. Go for the marina and just skip the food. It was a disappointment after so many good experiences at Roy’s in Hawaii. Service was good.

During a recent visit to San Diego, I made it a point to tell my friends that we were gong to Roy's for dinner one night. I know this can be termed a 'chain restaurant' but no matter which Roy's location I have never been disappointed. For some of my friends it was there first time to a Roy's and they could not stop talking about the meal. When in San Diego, do go to Roy's and enjoy!

My wife and I went to Roy's Restaurant on the Waterfront and had dinner after a San Diego Padres Baseball game and had a wonderful meal. Jaime Ekema our server was so nice as she talked with us and took our orders. My wife and I started with a bowl of Edamame and some delicious Hawaiian Sweet Bread. We then ordered and shared the Canoe for Two Starter, which includes 2 delicious Szechuan Ribs, 2 Spicy Tuna Rolls, 2 Lobster Pot stickers, and 2 Crispy Chicken Spring Rolls with a killer dipping sauce. Everything that was on the Canoe Plate was Awesome ! We then ordered a separate order of the Szechuan Spiced Pork Ribs which is Smoked and Glazed in Roy's Original Mongolian Sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds. The Pork was so tender, and the taste was incredible. For Dessert, my wife and I shared a very tasty Pineapple Upside Down Cake with Caramelized Pineapple, Baked on a Brown Sugar Pound Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream. It was So Good ! After our meal, David Trainer Roy's General Manager came by our table to make sure that everything for our Dinner was excellent. He was very nice ! This Place Rocks ! You have to check it out !

I have dined at many Roy’s restaurants, over the years, from Pebble Beach, to Phoenix/Scottsdale, to San Francisco, and at most locations in Hawaii. However, I had never dined at the Roy’s at the Marriott Marquis in San Diego. When I was first at that hotel, it was for the Americas Cup races, and the location, where Roy’s is, was then the Yacht Club, and we spent many hours there, drinking, and watching the race results. On my next visit to the Marriott, I went looking for the Yacht Club, only to find Roy’s in its place. As we were at the Marriott this time, and as I had a solo evening (wife in dinner meeting that night), I booked a table for myself. First, the restaurant is lovely, and is almost circular in design, with walls of glass, looking out over the harbor. The décor speaks of Chef Yamaguchi’s Asian/Hawaiian heritage, but in very subtle ways – one almost has to look for those influences. The interior lines are clean, with lots of dark cherry wood and then panels of a “dusty merlot” color. All nicely understated, and attractive. I was seated at a nice 4-top, with a view of the harbor, and started with the Pommery “Brut Royal” Champagne, while I looked over both the menu and the wine list. I decided to mix things up a bit, so did B-T-G selections. While the list of B-T-G is not long, and while there are some of “the usual suspects,” I did have plenty to work with. I added the Twomey Napa/Sonoma Counties Sauvignon Blanc, the Belle Glos Las Alturas Vineyard Santa Lucia Highland Pinot Noir, and then the Boneshaker Lodi Zinfandel. The dining was also a bit of a mixed bag, as I went from several different sections of the menu to concoct an enjoyable, but somewhat eclectic meal: Amuse Bouche of Shrimp on Toast Ebi Roll w/ shrimp tempura, coconut, avocado, cream cheese and habanero aioli – excellent, and with great textures Crispy Wok-fried Shrimp Tempura w/ shishito peppers, shimeji mushrooms and Malaysian curry aioli – I was determined to get my USDA “Minimum Daily Requirement” of Shrimp, and this was another great dish Blackened Island Ahi w/ spicy soy mustard and butter sauce – great Ahi, and interesting treatment Roy’s Trio of Hibachi-grilled Atlantic salmon, Misoyaki “butterfish” and blackened Island tuna – OK, so more repeats, but the different treatments made it worthwhile Service was excellent, and the pacing was nearly perfect. The room was comfortable, and bright enough for me to read the menus and appreciate the lovely presentations of each dish, even when the June darkness fell on the harbor outside the large windows. As I mentioned, I have dined at many of the Roy’s Pacific Rim Cuisine restaurants, but I rate Roy’s San Diego Waterfront at the very top! I will return, and hopefully, my wife will not have business dinners, when I do.

Starting out with a Roy's signature Mai tai was the way to go for me. My wife began with a well-appointed Pinot Noir. The Kung Pao Calamari appetizer, a local Roy's creation, is unlike any Calamari appetizer we have ever had. It's not just fried Calamari on a plate with a sauce. It is a fusion of Bell Peppers, Red Onions, Sugar Snap Peas, Bean Sprouts, and of course Calamari. If you are a Calamari fan, you must try it. The Blackened Hawaiian Ono with Mushroom Risotto, House Cured Bacon, Hon Shimeji Mushrooms and Arugula was prepared as well as any seafood dish my wife has ever had. My entree, the Classic Four, Hibachi Grilled Atlantic Salmon – Misoyaki “Butterfish” - Blackened Island Ahi – Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi, was an interesting choice. The Salmon was just salmon, nothing special. The Ahi was well prepared as Ahi should be. The Mahi Mahi, as was the Ahi, prepared and tasted as it should. The Butterfish was one of the best tastes I have ever had when ordering any seafood and it truly melted in my mouth. The next time it will be the Butterfish entree alone. Needless to say, there was no room for dessert.

Yesterday we made reservations for 9 of us. The drinks were OK. Their "famous" Mai Tai is not as famous as they want to presented like. Edamame had a different taste than other restaurants we have eaten before. I also got sick on their scallops. I called the manager Sunday morning (today), left a message and he called me back 4+ hours later. I explained my problem. He was professional and polite. But the first thing he told me is what I expected, like "last night we served a lot of scallops and nobody has called in with a problem"...!!! Just an FYI, when we arrived the patio and the dining area was almost empty and never got really busy. I bet you that if I had said that I ate mahi mahi, he would tell me that they served a lot of mahi mahi, etc..... Before we terminated the conversation he told me that he saw his chef in a close proximity and he would tell him to keep an eye on the scallops...! Besides and apology, NEVER offered even a FREE glass of tap water. Even if he did though, I would not accept it since I rarely demand or ask for FREE meals. Is just the "customer service" that I care about. NOT THERE. I guess no more Roy's for us. Eating all over the world, my experience has been that when a "famous" name is housed in a major hotel chain, the food is neither good or plenty and of course more expensive. My friend had a sushi roll which is usually 8 pieces. At Roy's is 6 pieces. And my plate had only 3 scallops when other restaurants give you 4, 5 or 6...!!! Across the way are so many good fish places, especially the Fish Market that Roy's (and their....customer service) would never be able to beat. My recommendation. DO NOT GO THERE

While attending a conference at the Convention Center for five consecutive years, we enjoyed a dinner out at Roy’s each time, including this December. Lovely restaurant, attached to Marriott Marquis, where we stay. The food is consistently very good. My husband ordered a seafood sampler with 4 items. I prefer steak, and it has always been tender and tasty. We love to get the chocolate soufflé for dessert! And we were seated near the windows, so we’re able to see part of the annual holiday boat parade. Boats lit with holiday lights pass by on the harbor.

This was approximately our 10th visit to a Roy's, third time in San Diego. We shared the canoe for 2 appetizer (tuna roll, spare ribs, lobster pot stickers, and spring rolls). Each was prepared exquisitely and served in a different sauce. My wife ordered the Filet Mignon and Maine Lobster Tail. Filet was cooked as ordered and lobster was great. I had the classic 4 (combo of tuna, salmon, mahi mahi, and butterfish). This may be the best meal I had at Roy's. Each fish was prepared in the same manner as if you ordered it separately from the menu

We must have faced a very bad evening for the waitress who served us. One of us asked for a margarita without dalt. She brought it by mistake with salt and said "yes, I know, the barman made a mistake, but hey you can use the straw"... Not replacing it?? It took 45min to take food orders, we felt she was avoiding us after the margarita accident... We had to call for her at least three times. We asked for a bowl of bread, it came with dark hair in the bowl, she apologized that the manager took it from the kitchen and he has black curly hairs. We never got proper bread... She opened a bottle of red wine but we had ordered a white wine... and this took30min of waiting because she said the manager could not find the bottle... We should have left but it was too late to find another place open for dinner by that time. Avoid it

I had never been to a Roys Fusion before and it was so close, actually connected via a walkway to our Hotel my wife suggested having dinner there. We were seated with a view of the waterfront and walking path on the marina. Roys has a unique menu, interesting mix of flavors and foods. Definately a departure from a regular seafood restaurant. We started with the Lobster Bisque. Creamy, flavorful and a real comfort food. We then had Roys Sampler which was a great option if you don't know exactly what you want. It definitely met our expectations. I recommend the Pineapple upside down cake for dessert. Service was good, nice view and definitely convenient to our hotel.

We had seen some poor reviews, but tried it anyway. I'm glad we did! We both had the Roy's Trio and it did not disappoint. Prepared perfectly and was just the right portion size. Excellent wine and cocktails. The highlight of the evening was our server, Leah. Wonderful smile, paid attention, but wasn't in the way, explained everything perfectly and knew the menu very well. She made our night. A really great night and would definitely go back the next time we are in San Diego.

Sat at the bar, as we needed reservations for inside. The atmosphere was fine, but the bartenders were super busy with the staff that we didn’t feel like we were noticed. The sampler for 2 is available for 3 and we enjoyed that. The sushi was Ok - but priced high for what we got. Note to the staff: if you complain to your bartender about the staff - know that others can hear you...

Took my wife for her birthday dinner and the fish was spectacular. Service was outstanding and the view was awesome. Will be back..The gluten free desert was a real bonus.

Had the wedge salad and lobster potstickers for lunch. Totally relaxing lunch away from a conference. I recommend sitting on the patio and watch the marina while enjoying the food. Great service.

I had somewhat high expectations, but was not impressed after eating at Roy's. It's expensive and the ambience leaves a lot to be desired. Not only that, but our waiter was unimpressive. He came by rarely, was super casual (which I am normally fine with, but he was over the top casual for the type restaurant we were in), and forgot portions of our order. Unfortunately, I will not be going back to Roy's any time soon.

We went to Roy’s for a friends lunch with 6 of us. Finding the restaurant wasn’t easy, maybe I was just particularly directionally challenged that day, but after finally figuring out it’s located on the grounds of a hotel I parked at the hotel, and then had to walk all the way through the hotel, down to the pool, around the pool and out a gate that said “hotel key required for returning through this gate” which was concerning because I didn’t have a room key. It still wasn’t apparent where the restaurant was because there were no signs anywhere, but we guessed and turned to our left and walked to the closest building which turned out to be the restaurant. Phew! I ordered the ribs from the appetizer menu and the flavors were great! The drinks from the bar were also delicious. The portions aren’t huge, but the flavors were good.

During our visit to San Diego we visited Roy’s. Not only the food was amazing, but our waitress was on point. She knew what she was selling. We went with her recommendations for the appetisers. To say the least it did not disappoint. As per our mains, I got the tomahawk steak. It was cooked at the temperature I required. If you happen to be in downtown, it’s worth a visit.

We are frequent fans of Roy's in Hawaii and were pleasantly surprised to find a Roy's in San Diego. Always amazing food and great service. We were sadden that there was no welcoming bowl of edamame but didn't know if that was a Hawaii thing or not. We were really happy with the choices on the children's menu which worked well for my child. Our food came out quickly and tasted to perfection. What I love about Roy's is the consistency between restaurants. You know what you are going to expect which is a great meal from beginning to end.

Stopped in for lunch since this is adjacent to the Marriott Marquis where we are staying. Positives: the property was pretty and the food wasn’t terrible but wasn’t great either. We were seated indoors next to a window as we requested. It took at least 10 minutes for the server to take our drink order. Most guests were on the patio and it felt like it was an out of sight, out of mind kind of thing. After 5m I found the hostess to let her know we were ready to place a drink order and it took another 5m for an obviously frazzled albeit friendly server to hurriedly check in to get drink order. We went ahead and placed food orders for fear of it taking another 10m. Had calamari which was rubbery and fish tacos which were meh. Glad we did not do dinner here.

Not impressed. Went here based on Hawaii restaurant reputation. The plate was dirty. The ceasar salad was warm. The poke was tiny. The rolls were tasty though. A bright side was friendly server and beautiful view.

Both Roy's in our hometown closed, so it was great to find this in San Diego. The food and service was just as good as we had become accustom to from the local Roy's when they were open.

So I considered Roy's to be a nice restaurant for a quiet dinner so I took my girlfriend for her birthday Saturday April 9, 2022. I made reservations for 7:45 and after some confusion at the hostess stand we were seated. I had noticed a large table of girls (unfortunately I cannot say women due to their behavior). We were seated pretty far away so I wasn't concerned at first, however as the dinner progressed these girls got louder and louder and louder. I mentioned something to the waitress once and then a second time I told her to tell the manager that I wish to speak to him about the noise. Apparently I was not the only person who was annoyed by this immature behavior at what I thought was a nice restaurant and not a ROWDY BAR. It turns out through conversation with a couple that asked to be moved next to us that several patrons also complained to the manager (Reggie) and when he did nothing they acted and politely asked these drunk girls to keep it down as it is a nice restaurant. I was also informed that these girls were being served shots well into the evening after they had exhibited drunk behavior. When these kind patrons asked the drunk girls to keep it down they were met with rude comments from the drunk girls and finally a small brawl ensued with half of the patrons getting out of their seats to ensure a quick exit if needed. The immature drunk girls left, not without a loud, obnoxious exit speaking expletives to the other patrons, and I then demanded to speak with the manager. Reggie finally came over to my table I told him that we were not pleased with the way that he handled (or I should say not handled) the immature girls and he basically said that they were paying customers and they had a right to be that way. I told that obviously several other patrons felt the way I did and he was defensive and didn't seem to care. Unfortunately after being a Roy's patron for over 20 years here and Hawaii I will not be returning. I gave the manage every opportunity to make this right and he could care less. Definitely not the kind of help Roy's should be hiring especially with the prices they charge.

Delicious seafood and great friendly service. Perfect for Marriott marquis guests so convenient. The kids menu could have some “blander” options. My kids didn’t like the smoky Gouda flavored mac n cheese. The ice cream wth chocolate sauce made up for it though!

I was ordering takeout, which meant I had to go all the way to the outdoor bar. I got the lobster California roll, which was pretty good. The bartender seemed to have an attitude, with everyone. Glad I took my food to my room.

Had lunch there last week. Sat out on the patio. Great view. Food was solid. Loved my tequila flight.

The menu, food, and service was great. Our servers were very knowledgeable about the menu and kept the service going despite the fact that a large wedding party was going on at the same time. Everyone in our group raved about their meal. The menu is a nice mix of sushi and elevated American dishes. Really something for everyone. I would have given 5 stars but…..the decor and cleanliness are not on par with the food or the Marriott Marquis Resort. Also, the American flag on top of the building is getting dingy and is not lit at night. Our room was directly above the restaurant. I definitely recommend the restaurant and offer my comments out of a desire to see them take the establishment to the next level.

This February during my trip to San Diego I got an invite for a business dinner. And Roy's Restaurant was the place of choice. Here are the findings. Location - on the Waterfront of San Diego attached to the Marriott Marquis - so if you are a guest in the hotel its easy to get there if you are not you can park your car at the garage of the hotel, or you can walk here. Good seating capacity and a separate room for private Dining - that's the place where we've been. Service - very good, drinks available in a great variety, small bites of appetizers were served by waiters moving from people to people (ribs, sushi, shrimp sashimi). Overall very good service. Food - a good selection of options were available - I went for the Mahi Mahi, nicely cooked to pink, just a little dry but very good nonetheless. The flavor was enhanced by the nut crust so overall a very good choice. Prices - nothing to say on the matter - for sure they take card - but since I was invited I did not check the prices. Overall a vary good restaurant - with a very good quality food - for sure an option to take in consideration when you are in San Diego.

I knew it would be perfect Kristen as our server. A special menu with a tasting of their best entrees. There are 500 restaurants and I chose the best. Steak, fish and sushi we tried everything

stopped in for drinks and food on Saturday, July 7th. the restaurant was usually hot for some reason the front door was blocked open during a heat wave. we sat across from the thermostat that was showing 80 degrees. we ordered salads and the ribs. one of the salads i had to send back because it was made completely different than the menu indicated. the service was extremely slow and the ribs were NOT up to Roy's standard's. very disappointing trip to what is usually a great place to eat. not sure if the kitchen staff has been changed but the food and service sure have.

Thank you Roy Yamaguchi, founder of Roy's Restaurant to continue to have a presence in the major tourist areas along the west coast. Of course, in this case I speak of the fantastic location along San Diego's waterfront in the Marriott Hotel complex overlooking the San Diego harbor, you can't beat a location like this and inside the location is just as nice as the view outside. We came on our first night after driving into San Diego and night had already fallen so we couldn't get a real aspect of the boats docked in the harbor but I could tell just by walking along the marina's walkway that this place had some impressive sights. The reason I personally picked Roy's for our first night for dinner in San Diego was threefold, one I was always a huge fan of the Asian fusion food that Roy's has provided for generations as I loved their San Francisco and Kauai locations, two I had two gift cards from Costco that I wanted to use, and three before I even booked my reservation, I get an email from Roy's saying how long it has been since I've dined there and they wanted my business back so here was a 25 dollar dining credit when you reserve through their website. After getting that email, I knew there was only one place to go Roy's in downtown San Diego. And what an intimate location it is as be careful even walking along the marina you could miss the front doors if not for the handful of tiki torches lit up outside the patio area. Once you enter you'll see the typical Roy's interior accents like the open air kitchen so you can see into their process into their food making, a dimly lit dining room, festive bar, and a glass encased wine cellar (in the main dining room no less). When we arrived, I noticed they weren't too busy, even though it was after the holidays and the height of tourist season. Through my reservation, I was able to get a window seat which allowed us some nice views of the boats docked in the marina at nighttime. Of course, the food is the main star, as it always is at Roys' with a fusion blend of Hawaiian meets East Asia, you can't go wrong with any dish. They have meat and poultry dishes, not to mention their patented seafood specialties as well as mixed plates for your palette. I was naturally intrigued by the Braised Short Ribs of Beef with Natural Braising Sauce, Honey Mustard and served on a bed of Yukon Mashed Potatoes and Broccolini, and at a cost of 35 dollars this dish was definitely on the more reasonably priced side. My parents were thrilled that they were offering a Chef's Tasting Menu which had four courses of delicious goodness. It started with an amuse-bouche of a Chilled Vietnamese Lobster Spring Roll topped with Shiso Chardonnay Sauce. The first course was four Crispy Wagyu Beef Dumplings, deep fired to perfection, only to be enhanced by the Chili Lime Shoyu dipping sauce. And then for the main meal you get a choice of a fish or meet option, and since they were both ordering the tasting menu, they opted to get both choices so they could see which one they liked the best with the option of Jade Pesto Steamed Whitefish with Baby Bok Choy and Warm Scallion Shoyu Ponzu and the Pork Osso Bucco with Crispy Kim Chee Brussels Sprouts, Fingerling Potatoes and Orange Macadamia Nut Gremolata. The fourth and final course was the dessert which was a Medjool Date Cake topped with Pistachio, Rose Water Sabayan, and Miso Caramel. The food alone was delicious and prepared with such detail exquisiteness that you'd think this was an five-star high end restaurant. The prices aren't super affordable as the average price of a meal is about 45 dollars. I absolutely loved my Short Ribs, as it was marinated to perfection and melt in your mouth good. It paired well with the mashed potatoes and broccolini and made me wish I had ordered a fine red wine to pair with it. Of my parents tasting menu, I think I liked the Steamed Whitefish as it tasted like butte, but the Osso Bucco was still fall off the bone good. My favorite were the Beef Dumpling, which deep-fried goodness in a potsticker wrapper. The dessert was a little to dry for my taste but tasted rich nonetheless. Once we were done, I reminded our server that I had the 25 dollar discount that needed to be applied and it was done by a manager in snap. It helped that I showed the email on my phone proving that I knew of the offer, as I had made the reservation there was no notice in a reply email that I was going to get the offer, so it's always good to ask your server before you order. Before any discounts were applied the bill came out to a hundred and forty dollars. and for that much food and good service, that cannot be beat. I love this intimate location along the San Diego waterfront. Super easy to get to and park in the open lot across the marina that connects to the Seaport Shopping Center, it's an easy and safe walk to get here. I know this Roy's is going to be a location that I am going to head to whenever I am visiting San Diego.

My wife and I went to Roy's Waterfront Restaurant to attend an exceptional dining experience where we escaped ordinary dining, and enjoyed a creative eating experience by Head Chef Quy Trinh and Sous Chef Justin Fermanich. Dave our Server, and Miguel our Assistant Server, did a great job all night taking care of all of the tables customers. Beverage Manager Mike Goldberg came by everyone's tables several times, making sure everyone's wine glasses were full. The Napa Wine dining dinner lasted 3 hours and was so interesting, and very good. We started our dinner with a first course of a single bite size hors d'œuvre. The Hamachi Nigiri starter which was very tasty with cucumber caviar. For our second course we enjoyed some Seared Hokkaido Sea Scallops with a buttery lobster claw and Ricotta Gnocchi. The Scallops and Gnocchi were very tender and tasty. We enjoyed a glass of the caramel flavored Franciscan Chardonnay, which was very different and nice. Our third course was a Crispy Skin Alaskan Black Cod with House Bacon, Oyster Mushrooms and Grilled Ramps. The Bacon was so good. We enjoyed a glass of The Prisoner Red Blend wine, with the Black Cod Dish. The Prisoner Red Blend was our favorite wine of the night, even though all of the wines were very good. The fourth and Main course was a Kalbi Prime New York Steak with Smoked Purple Potatoes, Crispy Shiso, Pink Peppercorn Demi Sauce, and Truffle Cabernet Essence. This New York Steak was Delicious ! We enjoyed a glass of Jamieson Ranch Vineyards Double Lariat, Cabernet Sauvignon with the steak. For our fifth course and Dessert, we enjoyed a Strawberry Tart Creme Anglaise, which was very tasty and refreshing. This Dining and Napa Wine experience was very different and unique, and was worth the price.

4 of us were here for dinner. Our server was fun and attentive, and knew the menu well. The food was fantastic! Attached is a picture of my entree, I'd strongly recommend the seafood, it was great.

H and I stopped by late one night during a stay in San Diego. To start, H had the Lobster Potstckers and I had the shrimp. My main was the Classic Four, the highlight of which was the tuna. I had a side of lump crab stir-fry which was excellent. The rice that came with my fish dish was a little bland in comparison. H had the Shellfish Sampler which was excellent, but again the 'creamy jasmine rice' was a let-down. Service was good, although being asked about whether or not we would be having dessert before we had ordered our food was a little odd! The pineapple upside-down cake needs to be prepared in advance apparently; who knew? The wine by the glass is excellent value.

First off - I love Roy’s - in particular his signature Miso Black Cod aka Butterfish BUT something has really gone sideways at this Roy’s. We were a party of 8 - 6 of us ordered the Butterfish other two ordered either lobster or a mixed seafood dish. The Butterfish appeared to have only a tiny (about the size of a golf ball) piece of Butterfish and then a much larger piece of some other fish. The lobster had no flavor and mixed seafood dish was mediocre. Our service was spotty - several beverages were ordered but never arrived or came incorrect. Save you money - good restaurants in Little Italy or Gaslight area.

Food was delicious. COD was done perfectly. Service was off due to many diners. We waited over 30 minutes once seated for a waiter . Noise level was extremely high due to so many diners.

End to end disappointing experience. Food tasted expired and mango margarita tasted like straight syrup—I couldn’t take more than one sip of it. The waitress was kind enough to ask if I wanted to swap it out for something else but at that point my stomach was churning and I said no thanks. Unfortunately, the margarita still ended up on our bill. There are so many amazing eateries in San Diego and we’re bummed to have wasted a meal and money here.

We liked to frequent Roys particularly on Sunday nights for their lobster special. Apparently they ended that along with the Monday night special 3 or 4 months ago. Prices have definitely gone up quite a bit too. The lobster bisque soup was very good. We also ordered the lobster potstickers which we pretty much do every time we dine at Roys. These have changed big time. When they first arrived we had them taken back thinking they were the wrong item. Literally no visual signs of lobster nor even any remote taste of lobster. The sauce was different too. Not sure what was in the filling. They brought back another plate of them and it was the same. We didn’t eat them. We also ordered lobster, 2 tails $59 when they used to be $44 a few months ago on evenings when they didn’t have the lobster special. Then you need to order sides which came with it on the Sunday special. They were ok, average I would say. Sad to say. we won’t be returning.

If you’re looking for fresh seafood with a Hawaiian twist, Roy’s is for you! The lobster potstickers fantastic! The seabass tender and Hawaiian tuna cooked perfect!

We were in San Diego for a meeting , and decided to dine at Roy's. We had previously enjoyed food at other Roy's locations (HI, San Francisco), and the restaurant was conveniently located in our hotel. What a disappointment. I ordered two starters... the Kung pao calamari, and the wok fried tempura shrimp. The flavors of the food were good, but the textures were terrible. The calamari was so tough it was a chore to chew, and on the few pieces that had batter the coating was soggy. I had expected crisp tempura in the shrimp dish, and there were some soggy bits in the bowl that might have once been a tempura coating, but the dish was closer to a thick soup. I learned the lesson again... brand name restaurants in fancy hotels are not a guarantee of good food.

To start we have enjoyed Roy’s restaurants thru out Hawai’i and California even before the corporate takeover I did read the reviews saying it had gone down hill but thought we would go because honestly I had never had a bad meal before here to start there featured appetizer calamari whatever the breading was under cooked and grainy in texture the lobster bisque had very little lobster and was overpowered by curry the miso butterfish was very strong smelling and cold when it arrived lobster was partially raw sea bass was good shrimp on the appetizer and main course still had sand and g.i. Tract still on them should have been prepped much better we were not at Denny’s very sad 400.00 meal was very disappointed we will not be back to this location , and the other very concerning part the ladies restroom the floor drain cover was missing no toilet paper in 2 of the stalls the stall walls were not clean and this was at 6:45 pm I can’t imagine what it was like by 8:00

The Roy's restaurant was full of people when we visited this place. We have to wait 20 minutes to get our table even that we had made our reservation beforehand. The dinner was tasty and the waitress was very polite. Nice bar outside. The restaurant is located in Marriott hotel.

Blackened island Ahi. Delicious. Bravely spicy with wasabi and crab sauce. Really good fish. Nice sides. Wine menu small but meets my taste.

We’ve eaten at Roy’s in Waikiki and a few times in Tampa. Meals have always been superb, however will not return to Roy’s in San Diego. We just had the Butterfish which was tasty with bok choy and warm rice. Felt the meal at $47 was very overpriced for the amount of food we got and the quality of food.

We sat outside next to a heat lamp. It was very nice and comfortable. Food was good and service was excellent. More expensive than I remember Roys to be, be prepared to spend a lot and have a light dinner! But dinner was good, service was good and food was also good.

Located right by the Marriott Marquis Hotel, our experience at Roy's was so good we ended up going two days in a row. Very good food and attentive service both nights. I had excellent miso marinated Butterfish (aka Black Cod / Sablefish). My wife enjoyed a very nice scallop dish. Nice.

I had a very enjoyable experience and dinner at Roy’s restaurant. Order the appetizer dish which gives you four different types of seafood- it was absolutely outstanding! The tuna, the salmon, the spring rolls and the mahi-mahi were just delicious. great ambience! You can sit outside at Bayside and look at the water and the sailboats. And, of course, I cannot forget the vanilla sky and coconut martini- yummy! Overall I can highly recommend this restaurant had a great meal, excellent service and A fantastic pineapple upside down cake dessert!

My wife and I went to Roy's Waterfront Restaurant in San Diego again to enjoy a delicious dinner. Roy's had a special $30 off coupon to help celebrate the restaurant's 30 year history in San Diego. Again the view of the many boats and ships on the waterfront as we were greeted at our window table by Natalia, was beautiful and relaxing. Natalia was very nice as she took our orders. We started or meal with 2 salads. My wife had the Caesar Salad with Brioche Croutons, Parmesan Cheese and a Creamy Togarashi Garlic Dressing. I had the Wedge Salad with Heirloom Tomatoes, Red Onions, Egg, Applewood Bacon, and some awesome tasting Blue Cheese Dressing. We then ordered the " Canoe for Two " which includes Szechuan Ribs, Spicy Tuna Rolls, Lobster Potstickers and Crispy Chicken Spring Rolls. And because we just love their Szechuan Ribs we ordered an additional plate of Szechuan Spiced Pork Ribs which are smoked and glazed in Roy's Original Mongolian Sauce. They are Delicious ! For dessert we enjoyed Roy's Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle with flourless chocolate cake, with a molten hot center, raspberry coulis, and some vanilla bean ice cream. Roy's is a great relaxing place to enjoy tasty meals with a beautiful view.

Who knows my reasons but for years I wanted to eat at Roy’s- Newport Beach, Hawaii, San Diego. In San Diego on business and needed to find a nice restaurant with seafood and vegetarian options- Roy’s popped up on Trip Advisor and I thought bows my chance. Delightful - from the walk out to Roy’s to the Aloha greeting to the tropical drinks to the delicious food- everything was outstanding! Heading to Hawaii next week and Roy’s will be on the list. Thanks for a wonderful evening

It was very chainlike. Good variety of food. They tried to accommodate my soy allergy and managed pretty well. Food was average. Steak was overdone and had to return. Medium well vs rare. Loud. It was busy but really loud. But mostly for the price not good value. Service was fine.
Great place
went here with 10 people, sat outside table and enjoyed subset and great food. The fish is really super, service highly re ommended. Will remember this place
