Excellent Chinese Food

By Kelly G |

We went as a group of 3 couples. The food was excellent. We each ordered something different. Everyone was pleased. We shared a taste amongst us. The other couples had been there before. I had the shrimp with lobster sauce. We definitely will go back there. Food was delivered in a timely manner and hot. It was hard to find the server after that for additional needs. None of the other servers would even pay attention to us.

Great Noodles

By Mark R |

The noodles were made in an open kitchen, so you could watch them make it. It was impressive to see the noodles stretched out by hand. The dumplings were amazing, I tried one of the fried dumplings, but I am told by my brother that the steamed dumplings are very good as well. I also got the Henan Dan-Dan Lamain which was the wide noodles made in a similar sauce as the dumplings, and served cold, covered in crushed peanuts and carrot peelings. Prices were about $10-15 average, so not too expensive. Everyone in the party loved it. The place was well decorated and fairly classy looking.

A Decent Meal

By TheTangoFox |

Came in a little late with a group of friends. Ample portions, but the wait staff was hit and miss, mostly focused on cleaning up and closing down for the night. Appetizer dumplings were a little bland. Find an entree, have a drink, enjoy your company.

Great experience and tasty food

By Rissa V |

We ate here for dinner last night and were very happy with everything we ordered. It is expensive for Chinese, but the quality makes it worth it. Hot and Sour Soup was great, though I prefer whole black ear mushrooms to little strips. Pork Belly Gwa-Bao were like a Chinese Banh Mi with pickles that balanced the fatty unctuous pork belly. Flaming Volcano Beef was tender and tasty. Dong-Po Pork Belly was sweet and tender with a nice bok choi accompaniment. I give only four stars because the Crispy Duck wasn't crispy, and there was a little too much ginger in the Gwa Bao pickles. On another note, it was interesting to see the making of the hand-pulled noodles, which is done at a dumpling bar in front of the diners. May order those next time. To the last reviewer I would advise you to order Chinese food at a Chinese restaurant, not Thai.

Dinner

By mizbombshell |

This was a recommendation by a native Texan and he is on point. I had the crispy snapper with garlic sauce. It was spicy, sour, sweet, garlicky, a touch of ginger flavor- just amazing. I didn't stop eating until I was done. I will be back the next time I come for a visit.

will think twice

By 12Coffee |

Guess, we'd rather go to another place to have much better Chinese food! The food is just so so and price is a little steep. Portion is very generous though. They made their noodle fresh. It is their specialty! We ordered Xiao long bao for appetizer and it's just okay. There is nothing special about their cold noodle. It's kind of vegetarian meal. There is no meat in it. :-) Service is alright. Ambience is good.

Excellent

By Jeff G |

Orange Chicken was the best orange chicken I have eaten. My wife's lemon chicken was very good. The hot and sour soup and egg roll are very good. The prices for lunch "specials" are a little high, but quality food.

Not as expected

By DoctorRandy |

We ordered a variety of items since this was our first visit. For appetizers, we got pork buns and soup dumpings. Both were okay, but we'd only order the dumplings again. Next was the hot and sour soup. It was bad. My wife thought it tasted like a barnyard smells. The egg roll was greasy and flavorless. Lastly came the shrimp with lobster sauce. It was okay, but it was one dimensional. The food was pricey as well. Excellent service.

Maybe above average for Dallas

By Frank N |

Dallas isn’t the epicenter of Chinese cuisine. Royal might be a notch above the others but in another city it wouldn’t be in business. Huge dining room, pleasant decor. The food is mediocre and service is slow and unprofessional. Appetizers were delivered piecemeal, one actually showed up with the entrees. Entrees again showed up sporadically with accompaniments arriving long after the main dishes. Kids meal chicken nuggets were more bread than chicken. Crispy duck was actually soggy and tasted as if it had been cooked days before

Best Ever Chinese food

By Monicamomof3 |

Royal China has the best ever Chinese Food you’ll eat. They have an extensive menu. Each dish tastes unique & yummy , unlike other Chinese restaurants where every dish is the made with the same sauce but have different names. The ambiance is simple & elegant. Very well spaced out setting. With a lot of seating. Considering the quality of the food, it’s not surprising that there is a bit of a wait which is worth every minute. The management & staff are extremely kind & courtesy. Inspite of having so many guests, the waiters are patient & always smiling. Will never eat in any other Chinese restaurant other than here.

For Years Was My Favorite

By Art M |

I am writing this review as I hope it will make a difference with the quality and service in the future. RC was my favorite Chinese Restaurant in Dallas since I started going there in early 2000's and fell in love with food, owner George, and wait staff. In fact, for years I didn't miss a week eating there on Friday ritual. And for birthday and celebrations. Even just for me by myself I would go there for lunch and dinner every week for many years. On a scale of 1-10 over the years would definitely rate a 10. Over the last year or so I've noticed the quality going downhill. Over-cooked or burnt fried rice, dried over-cooked shrimp dishes, over-salted dishes, over-fried tough chewy beef, less caring and rushed ambivalent wait staff, slippery greasy floors, and on and on I could go. On my last and final visit I complained to George about these several issues. And he's known me by name for almost 20 years. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars and brought in or referred tens of thousands of dollars of business to this place. His only response was to replace one of the dishes and take one dish off the bill and rush out of the restaurant. So much for years of customer loyalty. Needless to say I won't be going back anytime soon. And probably never again. I'm now searching for new favorite Chinese Food real restaurant not a buffet. Haven't found one yet. Most are a disappointment which is odd to me that it is so hard to get it right.

Fantastic Chinese

By Kholder3 |

I was so impressed with this restaurant while traveling to Dallas for business that I will return to it again during my visit here.

A bit hyped

By Borroc |

Monday night at 8 and the nicely decorated room was packed We had high hopes especially seeing the women at the back counter making the dumplings and noodles from scratch But it was hype The food , though a good and varied selection was just average We had the fairly tasteless dumplings ( the chicken , shrimp, veggie and pork combo basket ) , the noodles in sesame sauce ( spaghetti) and the very normal hot and sour soup But we still had high hopes for the egg fu young and the. pork ribs w fried rice No need Very nice presenters but just average taste The ribs were fatty and tasted like beef tho he assured us they were pork The fried rice was just white rice w a touch of soy sauce and a pea here and there Tea is very expensive for a non refillable pot of hot water They have a large selection but I'm afraid they may all taste the same , like hot water We eat loads of Chinese food and I make a great fried rice We ate in China This is not worth going to

Long time favorite, loved by everyone

By LegalEyeDallasTexas |

Best Chinese food in Dallas. Soup dumplings are exceptional. Dumplings are made on site. There is usually a wait, and it is worth it. Large menu of authentic dishes, with quality ingredients. Exceptional.

Terrible customer service at Royal China Restaurant - Dallas

By Carley L |

Recently moved to the DFW area, searched for the best Chinese food rated. Royal China Restaurant had high ratings. Just ate lunch there today. Will not be returning. Waitress not friendly, served a bowl of previously used fried wonton strips that had been eaten by another customer. I realized this after eating a second strip which had old food stuck to it. I asked for a fresh bowl, but should have left the building, the service did not improve. Our waitress never returned, someone else brought our food. And I had to search for someone to give me my receipt and a to-go box. It was given without a bag. I asked for a bag. When I mentioned to the hostess at the door that the service was poor, her excuse.....'It's because we are about to close'. She would not look up and make eye contact. Business is business, EVERY customer should be given the same treatment at start and closure of a restaurant business. Be mindful other 'Caucasian' customers seemed to have no issues, were served promptly. Again, we will not be returning.

Great experience, even better food

By Kimberly A G |

The food is the best Chinese food we've had in the Dallas metroplex. The service is accommodating and friendly but not overbearing. The decor is warm and inviting. The best part is watching one of the chefs create and prepare all of the noodles served in the restaurant--he puts on quite a show! The dumpling ladies also handcraft all of the dumplings but one must sit closely to them to see what they are doing.

Excellent

By DonePayingForPoorQuality |

Fresh food, done really well, and excellent flavor. I constantly crave their orange chicken and their pan seared dumplings

Good Stuff!

By Donovan H |

Had the pork and edamame. Ask for super spicy they nailed it! Spicy and flavorful! Would definitely eat there again!

Disappointing Evening! Across the board

By O N |

My wife and I were in the mood for Chinese food so drove down to Royal China, as we had heard good things about it but had not been there for years. Right off the bat, the shopping center parking lot is striped as if every visitor is driving a Mini-cooper or a Smart-car. Try parking a full sized SUV in those dinky spaces. We chose to arrive a bit early so were seated right away............then the crowds came and it was down-hill from there. Our waiter took our drink and app order then disappeared for almost 20 minutes. I'm pretty sure she completely forgot about us! Our (over-priced) glasses of wine finally arrived along with our app so we ordered our entrees. Again..............after almost a 30 minute delay, they food arrived and not all that good frankly. Way too salty................and nothing special. Borderline lousy actually. Frankly, why this restaurant stays so busy is beyond me. We won't return! Gunna try Howard Wangs down at Midway and NW Hwy..............

Not too bad

By 532trail |

We had a large group and a reservation to start so seating was easy. Food was great and served accordingly. Beer selection was thin at best. The staff is decided to figure up what the various tips amount should be. No need for that for I tip according to service speed and accountability. Beer selection and tip figuring was the only down side.

Dumplings at the bar

By OTCCRNA |

Stopped in on a busy weekday evening and sat at the bar. Had dumplings and drinks. They also have a dumpling bar and many fresh noodle options.

2 AA adults and 3 kids-said he had a perfect spot for us...

By BCM1722 |

Asaian male-perhaps the manager-then proceeded to seat us in the back in a corner near their paper towel storage area when the restaurant was only partially filled on a Monday at 5:25p. What an insult! Racist! We politely asked why he chose that area, he then apologized and seated us up closer where another guest was. Well, one our kids began crying sensing our unease and the table move so we left. Never again! Think twice! Beware!

Dinner with wife

By Ranchman58 |

By far the BEST Chinese food in Dallas. Royal China has been in business since 1974, family owned and operated. We started out with adult beverages followed by appetizers of pork dumplings and Buck’s spareribs and egg rolls. All were excellent. Main course was cashew chicken and Dragon & Phoenix. Both were incredible. Ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The portions were big enough to share. Needless to say we had plenty to take home. This is now our go to restaurant when we want Chinese. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Dumpling very delicious and fresh

By Jeff M |

I gotta say there are not that many chinese restaurants that make fresh dumpling from scratch. They tasted very fresh and delicious. Most of the other items we tried were also good. Def recommend this place.

Very unique menu

By Rich B |

All in all, this nicely appointed restaurant is an excellent place to eat with its unique, good-tasting noodle menu items. While I thought the prices were a bit high, and the lunch servings a bit small, it's still a place I would revisit.

Very good lunch

By Kaptx |

Simply, good food and good service. The spring rolls were very good and the orange chicken and a salad were excellent. Will come back.

Close to authentic, fresh, but too pricey for those who know authentic

By redningja |

The food was very good. Close to authentic. I'm Chinese and know what authentic is. But you won't see many Chinese customers because they all know you can get VERY authentic food for a fraction of the price elsewhere. We had the dumpling sampler which comes with 8 (2 of each). They were good. You can tell it's made from scratch and you can see them making them by hand. But for $10, you can get many more authentic dumplings for half the price. We also had 2 noodle dishes, one thin and one wide. They were both very good. And again very fresh (you can see the dough turned into the noodles before your very eyes by the noodle maker). But still twice the price. The pork belly dish we had was again very good. Excellent cuts and perfectly cooked with fresh vegetables. And still, you guessed it, too expensive. The atmosphere is warm and modern. The staff are friendly (they can speak Chinese). Only issue with staff is there are too few. Waited too long, not much attention.

Delicious

By Dean C |

I have found my new favorite Chinese restaurant. The dumplings were great. The combo fried rice was amazing. The seafood King Pau was very good. The dry stirred beef was unbelievable. Definitely a must visit.

Just Average

By Patricia R |

I went today with some co-workers for lunch. I ordered the Pad Thi with beef, extra spicy. This is one of my favorite Asian dishes. I have to return it for something else. It had an order of smelly feet. My co-workers food looked and smelled better than what I got. They were very pleasant when I returned my order, graciously gave me beef and broccoli with rice.

A Favorite and Our Go to for Chinese Food

By SB S |

Best place we have found for consistently good food. Nice menu selection and noodles being made on display. Great service.

Chinese restaurant that is not authentic

By dcyuan |

Do not go to this restaurant if you want good Chinese food. They don't even know how to cook rice. The food is too salty and the portions too small.

premium quality authentic Chinese; there IS a difference!

By Bill W |

It bills itself as the oldest family-owned Chinese restaurant in North Texas, since 1974. The authentic food quality is definitely there, and worth waiting for - no fast food Chinese here. One of Royal China's features is hand pulled noodles - called Lamian. Lamian is made by twisting, stretching and folding the dough into strands by hand, using the weight of the dough. There is definitely an art and skill to this technique, and the folks here do it well. Another feature is the dumplings, or jiaozi. All are hand-made to order by the 'Dumpling Ladys' - you can read about them at the Royal China website - and you can literally watch them making the dumplings from wherever you are sitting in the dining area. One of my favorites is the Zho Liu Fish - slices of white fish filet stir-fried in a light white wine sauce - very tasty! The dishes are premium-priced, but you get what you pay for - top-quality, gourmet-cooked authentic Chinese food. Give it a try. The restaurant is in the back of the strip center on the NE corner of Royal Lane and Preston.

Best Chinese noodles in town

By Esther G |

This lovely family restaurant has terrific food, a beautiful space, decent bar. Try the dumpling sampler and anything with hand-pulled noodles. The classics are always good and the specials are even better. They have gluten free dishes on the menu. Get there early or late if you don't want to wait, because it's always crowded at peak times. They also have a nice party room.

Fun and delicious!!

By Carmen W |

How can you NOT love Royal China? The food is always great, small bar, but great wine selections, staff friendly and happy! The food is constantly delicious and prepared with perfection. The "noodle bar" is a sight to behold. So much fun to watch the kitchen staff make home made noodles. I have enjoyed Royal China for several years and often drive from Plano just to get a fix!!

Amazing Food!

By Practicalmatters |

The dining experience is nothing short of superb! You can watch the amazing noodle chef pull strands of homemade noodles from the dough in a matter of seconds or the dumpling ladies craft your dumplings made to order. We eat at Royal China everytime we visit Dallas. The food quality is great! The service is good, and there's always a line but the wait is quick. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Long wait, mediocre food, awful service

By TripsAh0y |

We got to the restaurant at 6:40 and were told we would have a 20 minute wait. At 7:05 they told us 20 more minutes, and at 7:40 we finally got seated. Several people that came in way after us were seated first - that were clearly regulars and had priority over the rest of us. The hostess was incredibly rude when we told her how long we had waited and asked why others were getting special treatment not having to wait. Her response was "Would you like me to take your name off the list then?" In hindsight, we should have said "HELL YES!" The food was very average - and took 18 minutes to get an appetizer from when we ordered it. Everything was slow - including getting the bill. Never going back. Too many better options!! I asked for crushed peanuts on my noodle dish and this is what they served me - a giant bowl of peanuts! (See photo)

The food although fresh, just below average

By LMA2214 |

We were excited to try this restaurant however we were not overly impressed. The ambiance is warm and cozy which was nice. As far as the food goes however we were less than impressed:(. The Crab Wontons / Rangoon is nothing like the others we have had. They were over-fried and had a very sweet stuffing and were 5 times the usual size. The eggrolls, although were very fresh were also huge and we had to use a fork. They had so much cabbage in them the taste was lacking. We liked the Mooshi Chicken dish with pancakes, but the fried rices was below average. We are rating it as average because of the atmosphere. Overall it is difficult to find a good Chinese restaurant in the DFW area but I would not recommend this restaurant and will not go back.

Poor service, mediocre food

By Dallasite2 |

Host refused to seat us until he himself saw everyone in our party, yet he did seat others with incomplete parties. He handled badly my need for menu help to accommodate my severe food allergy. The server was polite but slow. Food and service were nowhere nearly as good as at Howard Wang's. We won't be going back to Royal China.

Great Chinese Food

By texanscot99 |

Visited on a Saturday evening. Long wait (~45 mins) however I would say that the food was with it. Dumplings, made on the premises, were superb and the entrees that we shared were also excellent. Definitely worth a visit!

Noooodles!!!

By Hannah K |

A friend brought me here cause she knows there's no good Chinese food in Waco, Texas. The dumplings were good but I ate my entire plates of noodles. They were too good! They are wide noodles in a delicious sauce with fresh veggies. Come hungry, this place is great!

Hidden gem - hardly hidden

By Brad S |

We went over around 6:30 to have a simple little meal. The line outside and inside affirmed the host - 45 minute wait. The next day a little earlier and we had a great table able to watch the noodle making area - four people making fresh noodles and more. This is when you realize that great food often takes time to understand. We started with Crab and cheese wonton - such a perfect starter - just the right amount of crisp to start your mouth watering. Our standard fare of seafood such as shrimp in black bean was fantastic, Eileen had the orange chicken it too was great...we love sharing off each others plate. Then as we ate we noticed all the exotic meals arriving on steaming skillets, bowls of noodles arriving to "adoring" fans. I guess 40 years of experience had created a huge WOW factor for them. We'll be back.

Great food, great service

By Shawnino |

Place a bit hard to find, tucked into a strip mall with a sign high on facade but nothing on its black door. Dumplings were very well done and nicely presented. Had dry stirred beef for a main with fried rice--highly recommended. Service attentive and well-paced.

Lunch with a Buddy at Royal China

By MPG6354 |

I had not been here for awhile. It was as tasty as ever. We started with steamed pork dumplings that came out perfectly. During lunch you are served soup and a spring roll besides your entree. My friend had a beef dish and I had shrimp in lobster sauce. We both had "Happy Plates". The service was very attentive. It was an excellent lunch.

Great food and service!

By Janet D |

My daughter and I Had lunch here for the first time this week. The service was impeccable and the food selection Included some unique items along with the traditional as expected. We had the mixed vegetable stirfry with chicken and the wide noodles with beef, the noodles are all made in house which is a special treat.

Excellent noodles

By Dr_Maru |

I went to this restaurant on my last evening in Dallas. The place was packed (as one would expect on a Saturday evening) when I arrived but fortunately I had called ahead to make a reservation. I will first comment on the atmosphere/general experience and then comment on the food specifically. I was seated at the dumpling bar. This was really great, particularly because I was flying solo. The staff were friendly and attentive. Waitress had a smile when serving me. The man behind the bar who was making the hand-pulled noodles (lamian) and the women who were making the dumplings (jiaozi) seemed to be enjoying their work. This made the experience quite enjoyable. The place was rather loud in my opinion, but this was due to the place being packed with patrons who were out enjoying a nice Saturday evening. I ordered the vegetable dumplings for an appetizer. They were good (above average), but certainly not outstanding. For my main meal, I ordered the Lanzhou Dan Dan lamian. I had the pleasure of watching the man behind the bar make and hand-pull the noodles in front of me. This was easily the best bowl of noodles I have ever had. The texture of the noodles was amazing. Chewy but not doughy. The noodles are served cold in a sweet and sour broth with spicy peppercorns. It made for an absolutely fantastic medley of flavors in each bite. Overall, a really great experience. I would easily go back to Dallas just for those noodles. I highly recommend sitting at the dumpling bar if you are flying solo.

Ignored while others were served

By Two Wilsons |

When we arrived, the restaurant was packed. We waited 20 minutes for our table, which was no problem. Once seated, however, we waited for our server. And waited. And waited. After 15 minutes, I told the host we had not seen a server: the host brought us waters and told us "Patricia" would be right with us. We never did see Patricia: what we did see were other tables of people who had arrived after we had arrived getting their drink service and getting their food, while we were getting nothing but ignored. Finally we walked out, without ever having been served. As we were leaving, we spoke to a woman coming in to dine: she told us she had had a similar experience on her last visit and was hoping that her experience this time would be better. I hope her experience WAS better; as for us, we will NOT be trying them again anytime soon.

Sister Birthday

By goddess_skp |

We've been to Royal China 3 times now. After our 1st experience we were so excited that we found a great spot for Chinese food and good service And started telling all our friends and family. So we brought our aunty there from out of town. After the all the hype, we got the worse customer service and food. It was horrible. We waited over 20 mins for water and had to ask someone to take our order bc we've waited for 30 mins. We ordered 5 round of drinks and 3 appetizers and 6 entrees. Again, we kept having to hand down our waiter to ask where our drinks were then our appetizers and finally our food. No one came to ask for refills on water or 2nd round of drinks. The food wasnt hot and we asked them to make it spicy and it was not. We are Indian and like it spicy so we always ask for extra spicy. So with bringing my aunty there was a horrible experience and I let the owner lady know and then today the samething happened. This time,wr came to celebrate my sister's birthday and the food was horrible and service was worse. Not a good place to celebrate bc you will leave in a bad mood. When we left, my husband said not to say anything, but I had to bc I paid $100 and it wasnt worth it. So i let the owner lady know aND she acted like she really didn't care. Well, that's our last time ever going.

Great Food

By Keith D |

One the best Chinese food places in Dallas. Been coming here for years. Recommend the wonton soup, handmade noodles, egg rolls and duck.

Expensive and just ok

By Kayla S |

The food was good but nothing out of this world. I've had better for a lot less money. Two meals and two appetizers came out to almost $45.

?

By choo844 |

The best for hand tossed noodles and dumplings of all types. The Sampler was special and as was the lava cake for dessert. This was my 2nd visit but not the last because it's my grandson's favorite.

First time visit, long time coming

By Trek679948 |

Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Royal China. The recommended soup dumplings were fabulous as was the lychee martini. Everything tasted so good-can’t wait for a second visit!

Very Disappointing

By Michelle S |

For lunch 4-6-22: lunch menu 2 wonton soup-very tasteless 1 Moo Goo Gai Pan-very bland and no seasoning at all. Didn’t even take the left overs home which was 1/2 the plate 1 Chicken Fried Rice-very bland 3/4 plate left. Did take this home thinking I might be able to season it up (we’ll see). Each lunch came with a spring roll. The rolls were fair. 2 waters to drink Our waitress was Joy and she was not a “Joy”. The service was good but Joy wasn’t very unpleasant. Unfortunately we were referred here from our orthopedic surgeon. We do not live in the area. Would probably not return. Very disappointed. I’m giving 2 stars just because the spring rolls were fair. And I’m trying to be nice.

Good dumplings

By momdadkidsTexas |

We ate there recently. They had a good dumpling sampler appetizer, which I would recommend. We had some handmade noodle stir fry, which was good. We tried the dried beef, which had a good flavor but I don't think I would order it again---a little too greasy Americanized Chinese for my taste. The waitress was pleasant and efficient. The restaurant is nicely decorated. We had a nice dinner. I wouldn't drive far out of my way for it, but it was a pleasant and reasonably priced meal.

Four Decades Old and Never Gets Old

By Bob K |

Royal China never gets old...it keeps re-inventing itself to stay current. No easy task given Dallas is notoriously fickle. But this eatery has figured out that authenticity is an attraction - so they make their noodles in sight of the main dining area and their menu includes both familiar and exoctic fare. My grandson ordered the Dry Stirred Beef (Beef, Broccoli, Sesame Seeds etc.), my wife went for Moo-Goo Gai Pan (stir fried Chicken, Broccoli, Pea Pods and Mushrooms) and I tried the "Ants Climbing Up A Tree" a Chef Specialty (Ground Pork, Vermicelli Noodles, Chilli Peppers and Scallions) all were well seasoned, smelled delicious, and tasted fresh. We started our Dinner with an order of Soup Dumplings (6) followed by cups of Hot and Sour or Won Ton soups. Strongly suggest you make a reservation, we did and still waited 15 minutes to be seated, but service was efficient and it was fun to rediscover an old favorite with our Grandson,

Some of the Best Chinese in Dallas

By tschuh |

Be prepared to wait or call ahead to make a reservation, this long time Dallas Chinese food joint is always busy. A Dallas old-timer, Royal China has been in business since 1974. Go with a crowd and order plenty of appetizers and entrees to share, you won't be sorry. There is so much on the menu that is the best way to try more than one. Some of our favorites are the dumplings, you can mix and match your favorites. Shrimp toast and spare ribs are a must and my absolute all time favorite is the PORK BELLY GWA-BAO, YUM! The hand pulled noodles are amazing and all your favorite Chinese standard entrees are there. Ask for a table near the noodle chef, very entertaining to watch them pull the noodles and fold dumplings while you enjoy your food.

Authentic freshly prepared Chinese food, within an excitingly diverse menu.

By kvasir |

This restaurant is established more than 40 years, and regularly is very busy with repeat diners. The in house chefs are imaginative in shaping a diverse range of dishes. Food is fresh, attractively presented, and tasty. The service is friendly, swift, and unobtrusive.

Really Good!

By Steve R |

Believe it or not, it is difficult to find a good Chinese restaurant in Dallas. In the land of steaks and enchiladas, it is comforting to know we can now rely on Royal China for a nice change of pace. The restaurant has a friendly, robust vibe and their food is delicious. A few tips: > Casual dress is the norm (example: nice shorts in the summer). > Try the sampler dumplings! Yum. > Although the menu is extensive, we suggest their seafood dishes. > Weekend nights are super busy. Make reservations. Hope your experience turns out to be as enjoyable as ours. Bon Appetit!

Food ugh! Service and ambiance 5. Which is more important?

By Carolea G |

If you like Salty this is the place to go. All 4 dishes were very salty. Maybe new help in kitchen due to it being an Easter evening. Egg drop soup was excellent. No consistency in the food. The service was on spot with lovely decor. But, what is more important food or decor and service. I want good food first everything else is secondary. Management should check out the cashew chicken and Mongolian beef. Neither edible. First and last visit for me!

the lunch crowd is back

By Cynthia U |

royal china was usually very busy pre 2020 and now it is busy again. the beer selection is good as is the lunch special. go early as it gets very crowded and parking is always a challenge.

Just go to Howard Wangs and save yourself the trouble!

By Scott Charles |

Had dinner here with my family today. Very average or below average good and completely incompetent service. The guy couldn't remember anything... Had the Mushi Pork, it came 30 minutes AFTER the rest of our table. It was very bland and they charge you for pancakes to come with it? really? We had the edamame and it was way overcooked. My wife had the crispy chicken, it was a chicken salad with carrots on the side. Bizarre. A great example, the hot and sour soup has no real taste and comes with 3-4 tiny pieces of Tofu. Its pretty much just water. Same with the Wonton. Tiny wonton and nothing else.

Worth the time?

By Rick R |

Sunday night: 45 minutes to get a seat and no where to wait, so packed. Got table (for 2) waited 30 minutes for dumplings then 20 minutes for meals. So an hour and a half before really eating. Was it worth it? The dumpling were excellent, both our noodle dishes were excellent. You can see them hand making the noodles and the taste showed, very good. Very congested and loud. Constant polite apologies for the long periods of time. Was it worth it?? Maybe to go if you can get through the crowd at the door to get to the counter to get your bag of the tens that are waiting to be picked up.

Try something new !

This is Not Your Average Chinese Food!

By Tastefullycoco - The Simple Treasures |

Wow! Such a great restaurant with excellent food and excellent service! I'd have to say this is some of the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. Very fresh and delicious, not your standard Chinese fare. The egg rolls are truly divine! A great menu with a lot of variety as well. I also love that the staff actually seems happy you are there! I may even go back tomorrow I liked it so much!

The food was amazing! We were lucky to go when there was seating available. The lobby was full of people waiting for a table soon after our arrival. The locals sure know where to get a good meal!

Dumpling heaven

By TiaJen |

In spite of 'growing up' in Dallas, and being the daughter of a most excellent Chinese cook, tonight was my first experience with Royal China. Since it was only mom and I, we couldn't taste all the beguiling dishes on the vast menu, but what we did have was excellent and worth a repeat. The dumpling sampler is a must, and this is from a girl who grew up on her father's homemade dumplings. I'm not sure which variety I liked best. Each was tasty and distinct. Be sure to request the dipping vinegar. First class homemade dumplings such as these must be appropriately treated! Mom and I also shared a plate of lions head with cellophane noodles. These lions head were much smaller than what I am familiar with and seemed to be fried, rather than boiled in broth. But the dish was quite tasty and I can recommend it as a tasty dish, authentic or not, without reservation. Together with a nice glass of wine it was a lovely dinner for 2, tasty, satisfying, beautifully presented. The place was quite busy when we showed up around 7 and we had to wait for a little more than 30 minutes, but it was well worth it. The staff was a bit overloaded at first, but were very responsive upon request and singularly warm and attentive as needed and quickly made us feel completely at home. We had a great table out of the hubbub, where we could hear each other speak without difficulty and still get a great view of the noodle man at work. . I will certainly be returning the next time I am in Dallas and hope to have similar good fortune trying their home made lamien, xiao long bao, eggplant with basil, soft shell crab and/or another of the many enticing dishes on the menu.

Good food and service

By Trinita |

The food is very good, tasty, fair price. A little greasy for my taste, but the over all food-service was good.

Fresh, delicious, wishing for a place like this at home

By DoesAmandaLike? |

This was our second time eating at Royal China - we were so impressed last time we were in town that we made a point to find time to eat here again. It's a little bit hard to find for a Lyft/Uber driver because the maps take you across the street. Try to put the suite number and see if that helps. Also, in the shopping center, the restaurant doesn't have a sign on the door so it's a little bit hard to decipher which door leads to the restaurant. Once you find your way in, though, you won't care about any of that. The food in this place is incredible. The dumplings are full of flavor and made in-house. The noodles are perfectly cooked and the spring rolls are fresh, crispy and super hot (don't burn your mouth!). The sesame chicken is perfectly crisp with the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Add in some rice or noodles and you won't be sorry. The broccoli was bright green and perfectly steamed, not too raw, but not soggy. If you've been looking for a great cooked to order Chinese restaurant, this place is worth the drive!

Popular Choice, Good Food, Fast Service

By John H |

Been to Royal China three times in the last couple of months and enjoyed the food each time. Wonton Soup is my favorite of the soups . . . I especially like chicken and cashews and General Tso's chicken. Large restaurant with plenty of seating -- but it's busy because the food is above average.

Chinese legacy

The place in Dallas for great Chinese food. Nice atmosphere, noodle station, attentive staff. Family owned and operated.

Disappointed in service

By Irene M |

Food very good. The lemon chicken sauce was light not over powerful. The Happy Family was good in flavor and fresh. A little pricey. I would come again.

Not good!!

By Inspiration619518 |

This is the first time I've ever written a review for a restaurant. We have been going to Royal China and getting take out from there for years. Last take out time was not good. I've heard it's "gone down" but went there tonight anyway. We walked in and no-one asked to seat us...had to track someone down. My menu had disgusting food all over it...I asked for a new one and our waiter jerked it out of my hand and never said I'm sorry. The booth and floors were dirty. I watched our drinks sit at the bar forever. Our waiter went in corner and wrapped silverware instead of tending to us and other customers. The food was very mediocre at best. There are so many good restaurants in Dallas and I wish I hadn't wasted time or money at Royal China tonight. NEVER AGAIN!

Deliciousness

By pengwenz3 |

Excellent food! We have had good Chinese food from California to Florida and this is by far the best! We had the combination egg foo yung and the dumplings. Excellent choice!

Excellent Old Dallas Chinese Restaurant

By Jerald M |

While visiting Dallas, we were taken to Royal China for evening meal. We found the service to be impeccable, the menu extensive, and the food was wonderful. They apparently are known for their dumplings, and the were amazing! I also had the General Kao's Chicken and an order of egg rolls. Everything was serve hot, expertly seasoned, and reasonably priced. Thoroughly enjoyed. We will certainly go back on next visit to Dallas.

One of the best

We go here often, and are always pleased with the food and the service. One of the best Chinese restaurants in the Dallas area.

One of the better restaurants in Dallas

Overall pretty good experience. Great location. Great atmosphere. Food is absolutely amazing. Service is speedy. Rare wait times. Overall fun place to go. 10/10 would recommend.

Royally wonderful

By Cherita G |

My daughter suggested we stop by Royal China will shopping in Dallas. It was a royal surprise. It's obviously an old standby to Dallasites. The food and service are over the top. It's not fancy, but one of those gems that you'll fall in love with. We had the soup dumplings and a scallion pancake. I'm still dreaming about how delicious both were. I highly recommend ROYAL CHINA!!

Excellent Dumplings

By jonathan m |

The soup dumplings were awesome. The place was very busy on a Sunday night. The noodles were good and the especially the wide noodles. The orange chicken had a nice crunch and was light on the sauce. Nice interior and good service. I would go back and may make take a lunch trip for dumplings.

Good value, quick lunch

By Suzana K |

Great meal with plenty of lunch items to choose from. The meal comes complete with soup and an egg roll :-) and it all came out very timely.

Soup dumplings

By Kathy J |

We started with soup dumplings and couldn't get enough! We kept ordering more until we were stuffed! Can't wait to go back!

Nice!

By KSimkin |

I really enjoyed my visit to **Royal China Restaurant** in Dallas. The hand-pulled noodles and dumplings were fresh and full of flavor—I especially liked the dan dan noodles and soup dumplings. The atmosphere was cozy, and it was fun to see the chefs making noodles by hand. It’s a great spot for tasty and authentic Chinese food.

Authentic Dim Sum

By Michelle M |

Given that we live in a rural state and in a rural area, authentic Chinese (or any ethnic food) is impossible to find. So whenever my husband and I travel to a "big city" we always try to find a good Chinese restaurant. I read the reviews for Royal China and saw they make their own noodles in-house, so we decided to give it a try. Wonderful late night meal after a long flight to Dallas. The dim sum were delicious, the Chinese style ribs were tender and flavorful and the lettuce wraps put the PF "chain restaurant" to shame (and our area doesn't even have the PF ... Restaurant). This was all the real deal! Service was fast, friendly and extremely attentive! Would definetely return!

Fantastic lamian

By mrandmrshill |

Second visit here, originally based on recommendations from TripAdvisor. This time had lamian - hand-pulled noodles - and ate at noodle bar. Not only extremely delicious, but noodle guy (sorry don't know title or his name) was quite entertaining. He appears to love his job and the attention he gets. Definitely recommend.

Royal China Hand Pulled Noodle

By awan460 |

The hand pulled noodle is my favorite. tell the chef if you want wide or thin noodles. Steamed pork dumpling, though a little too sweet for my taste is very good too.

Not your usual Chinese Restaurant

By nanacake |

Think "Chinese" and you usually think of overly sweet sauces and oily odors. Not at Royal China. This restaurant is top notch cuisine and beautifully decorated, too. Unusual for Dallas, it is in the second generation of ownership and in the same location for 30 years. The hand-pulled noodles are a treat, as are many of the Chinese menu standards that are raised to a higher standard. I tried egg foo yung, one of my favorite standbys, but I've never tasted the dish prepared as exquisitely as here In addition, there are many unusual dishes such as porkbelly with noodles.

High-quality Dallas Chinese food

By naturetack |

Some of the best chinese food I've ever eaten. Every dish we tried was delicious. The multicolor dumplings definitely stuck with me! We ate takeout, but have to go back for the soup dumplings (only served in-house). You know it's good when the lobby is full of people patiently waiting for seating on a Saturday night.

If you can understand this line, find somewhere else to eat.

By Seaside11904011745 |

I am from Taiwan and have lived in Dallas for almost 20 years. We saw a bunch of people online giving this restaurant very good reviews, so we decided to go there for dinner after get off work on Friday. We ordered two appetizers; one was Xiao Long Bao and the other was a mixed dumpling plate. There wasn't a lot of soup after biting into the xiaolongbao, which was pretty unsatisfactory. The comprehensive dumpling plate tastes good, but the dumpling skin is a bit hard. For our main meal, we ordered three-cup chicken, asparagus chicken slices, Mongolian beef, a mixed stir-fry called Happy Family, and finally a salt and pepper pork rib. Some of these main dishes were almost half cold when they arrived at the table. I think they were served together after all the ordered meals were cooked in the kitchen. No matter how delicious a lukewarm meal is, it doesn't taste good. Among them, only the asparagus and chicken slices were not satisfactory, and the other four were not ideal; the Happy Family meal was too salty, and the salt and pepper pork ribs had no flavor. If you want to eat delicious Taiwanese/Chinese food, try "Yuan Lu" in Richardson.

Best Chinese Food in Dallas!

By carrbtraveler |

I do not know why it took me so long to write a review for this restaurant because it is our ABSOLUTE favorite Chinese food in Dallas! Anytime we deviate from here, it is a terrible mistake. We have been going here for over 20 years and we really missed them during the renovation of the restaurant many years ago. The owner is awesome and welcomes us by name. We have great discussions in the fall over Dallas Cowboys football. The food NEVER disappoints! We literally have not ever had a bad meal here. Eat in, delivery, or pick up. Our go to "staple" when we are dying for some awesome Chinese food!

LOVE ROYAL CHINA

By Carmen W |

I really love any chance to visit Royal China! Watching the noodle makers is so very entertaining! The food is always great, the service is good, and the wine list has good selections for Asian pairings. Always steady quality of food and service.

Good Chinese food is tough to get in Dallas Royal China has been around 40 years but had lost its game until the son took it over .its great and continues to get better

We had heard they deliver, so we tried. Just great. Very timely, and hot. Very nice delivery gentleman. Will clearly do it again.

Food coma

By Amorales2011 |

The dried stirred beef is ammmmazzzing!!!! Table of 5 with a variety of dishes and we all thought this was the best....great food! Will be back next time in Dallas.

WOW

By Mrpeake |

So glad I stumbled upon this gem. You HAVE to get the dumplings. Hand rolled right there at the restaurant from a very entertaining character. Food was just "clean" too. Didn't get the usual dehydration and need to chug water, as I usually do after eating Chinese food. I highly recommend this place, I'm sure to go back in my last few days in the area. I hope you get a chance to do the same!

BEST CHINESE FOOD IN DALLAS

By CathyCole |

I have seen this restaurant near my home in North Dallas for years.... The shopping center is always packed with cars, so I stay away unless I NEED to go there. However, at my husband's urging- we tried it out one night. We had to wait for about 30 minutes for a table, but it was worth it! We have been back at least 5 times since that first visit and is one of our favorite go-to spots. They allow you to bring in your own wine for $10 cork fee--which we do! The restaurant is always on a wait for dinner--they take reservations for 6 or more. The atmosphere is fun and lively. There is a "noodle guy" making homemade noodles in the middle of the restaurant, providing entertainment to all of the diners in the main dining room. EVERYTHING WE HAVE HAD IS DELICIOUS! Try a variety of dishes.

Good food and service

By Kerrie J |

We had an enjoyable meal at Royal China with better than average food and very good service. We’ve gone here off and on for years and we’ve never been disappointed. We arrived early (5:30 pm) on Saturday evening and had a 45 minute wait but wasn’t surprised given holiday season. Several large parties were occupying many tables. The noise level was extremely high. We had won ton as well and hot and sour soups which were both very good. We also ordered the stir fried dried beef which was great. I requested a somewhat custom beef dinner. They gladly accommodated my request and it was delicious. We’ll be back but will probably try a week night in hopes of less chaos.

Outstanding Chinese Food and Service

By Kendot52 |

First rate Chinese Food. The service was excellent. We were there for lunch, but the portions were very generous and delicious. I had the General Tao's Chicken with fried rice and my friend had a another Chicken dish with steamed rice. Both entrees were outstanding. We both had WonTon soup, but there were other options.

Fantastic

By Mark L |

Went to Royal China for to go, use to go quite a bit food was pricey but good. Today food was bland and not all that.

Almost superior

By edcreekmore@hotmail.com |

This place is a real gem. OK it is a Chinese restaurant. However, dusty old shoji screens, and woodwork coated in that ghastly dark cherry red were not to be found. None of the stereotypical Asian schlock was present. The place is very tastefully decorated and gives the appearance of serene cleanliness. Even though we went late Sunday evening, there was still a crowd. Nevertheless, my wife and I could carry on a normal conversation! The people at the front were a bit slow to acknowledge and seat us, and it did take a bit if time for our server to return for our order. These factors influenced my ratings. At the same time, the dishes we ordered were delivered promptly, plate presentation was excellent, and the lemon chicken was very well executed. The breading was light with no hint of oil, and the lemon dip was tangy and deliciously sweet and sour as it should be. But, my wife's chicken lettuce wrap was just pretty good. Her comment was that P F Chang's are better. The prices were quite reasonable, and I would recommend it to my friends and, on our next trip to Big D, we will partake there again. We liked it very much.

Chinese Food "Snob" is Impressed !

By mshbnyehud |

For nearly 30 years I lived in a city that had a high Asian demographic and thus many fabulous choices for Chinese and other foods from countries in the Far East. Dallas is not one of those places, but Royal China matches up very nicely with some of the best Chinese food choices in Dallas, and compares favorably with West Coast (and New York) choices. We ordered a starter of the Dumpling Sampler, and had a table very close to where they were being assembled by hand right in front of us. How much fun! The 40 seconds or so spent on each dumpling showed fabulous craftsmanship. After steaming, they were immediately delivered and were fabulous. We actually started with an order of Spring Rolls, with great texture, loaded with crispy vegetables, and just wonderful. For the main entre, we split the Mongolian Beef, one of those staple dishes we order at every Chinese restaurant we go to. It's our barometer of how the food overall is going to taste, and we were not disappointed. The beef was incredibly tender and lots of terrific flavor. We added on a side dish of chicken fried rice, a really sizeable portion just loaded with huge chunks of chicken -- delicious! The hot tea was a nice add on, and of course the mandatory fortune cookies at the end. I thought the total bill for the evening was moderate and very good value. All told, we were so impressed and can't wait to come back to enjoy more choices, and marvel once again the noodles "show" !

Best Asian food in town!

By brookegoesplaces |

This is our favorite spot for Chinese in the DFW metroplex! We dined in without a reservation on a weeknight the week of Christmas. There was a 30 minute wait, but we would gladly wait an hour us if we had to. The food, service, and atmosphere are 10/10 every time! Love the egg drop soup, avocado wontons, and other appetizers. Our favorite dish is the dry stirred beef - excellent every time. My husband also orders the egg foo young every time - with meat or veggies, delicious. This time we had the salt and pepper shrimp which was a bit spicy, light breading, delicious. I can’t say enough, if you’re a local or in from out of town this is a must have meal when in Dallas!

Amazing food

By Kyle G |

I'm not an Asian food kind of guy, but this place is AMAZING! By far the best I have ever had. The service was spot on and the food was DELICIOUS!!! I will definitely return!

while in search of the perfect dumpling

By Cynthia U |

i am on a quest for the best dumplings in Dallas. parking is terrible in this shopping center. it does have a light to get in and out which helps. these dumplings are only average.

Amazing food

By bigstitchguy |

We had a meal this week and we were completely blown away with the experience and the food. Start with a tea of your choice. It is not Mother's tea! Then we went for the dumplings for the table to share and the delights were there to be savored! The hand made cold and hot noodles were beyond any Chinese I have ever had. I personally did not want my large hot noodles with perfectly cooked shrimp to end. The spice was just right so you are able to enjoy all the elements in the dish. The servings are very ample. We look forward to our next trip to Dallas to revisit this culinary delight.

Local Secret

By Food2012 |

I only recently discovered this restaurant and have eaten here twice in less than two weeks. First first time we waited 5 minutes, the second time 45 minutes. Each time the restaurant was full and you could see the staff actively taking care of everyone. The food is fresh, tasty and worth the wait. The sesame chicken is incredible, the crab and cheese wonton's are large and wonderful. If you get the opportunity, ask to sit at the dumpling bar; you will get to see the staff make the dumplings or noodles, they are very entertaining.

Yummy Chinese!

By Robert J |

Small but very nice Chinese restaurant serving real Chinese food. Kind of hard to find, as it's tucked back in the corner of the center, but well worth the effort.

Talk about Noodles!

By Deanna H |

Royal China makes its own noodles in house and they do not disappoint. Definitely recommend any of their appetizers - we had several types of dumplings and rice balls. I had a lo mein noodle dish that was perhaps the best noodle dish I've ever eaten. A real find tucked away in the corner of a stripmall.

A fave since my youth!

By Valerie F |

Royal China has been in the same location for over 30 years and is still really, really good. They make homemade pulled noodles and you can watch them being made. The food is traditional but tasty. A great choice for lunch or dinner. I first came with the original owner's son when we were in high school and have returned over and over again!

The food better be good

By esrtraveler |

I hate to wait for a table, and this place is making us wait extra long; they refused a text system, so we piled in the front area for the cattle call. Then, they did the unforgivable, allowing a party who missed their call to jump back in ahead of us. After this move, the food better be good; I live in PA and travel NYC, Philadelphia and DC frequently, so I know my Asian food. Stay tuned . . . Ok, now I’ve eaten and the food was good but not great. I had the Sichuan Fish, and asked for extra spicy, but the spice was still low for my taste (I frequent Szechuan joints often and I like HOT). Pass on the hot and sour soup, usually a bell weather sign for me. The steamed dumplings were very good. I’ll come back when I’m back here, but I won’t wait an hour for a table. Call ahead!

No Flavor

By Veronica D |

So, I was craving Moo-shoo Pork. I found this place online and decided to try it. I placed an order over the phone for myself and my 2 co-workers. They ordered Kung Pao Chicken and Chicken Lomein. We all asked for spicy. Kung Pao chicken was too spicy, and the other 2 orders were not spicy at all. We had to keep adding soy sauce to add some kind of flavor. The soups were also lacking in flavor. The only thing I devoured was the egg roll. Plus, the woman at the counter who took my money was less than friendly. Not even a "thank you" and when I asked her for chili oil, she lowered her voice and said that it would be $1 each additional. Now, I eat a lot of Asian food, and never have I heard such nonsense. Sometimes it's thrown in my to-go bag without me even requesting it. I don't know how this place was so busy. Must be location. Much better options for a lunch that cost me $17.32 that I barely touched. Won't be back.

Amazing

By Lisa K |

We are on a quest to find the best cream cheese wonton in Dallas. When we saw them on the menu, we immediately got in the car and drove to Royal China. We were immediately seated (at 8:30 on a Sunday night) and ordered cream cheese wontons, and they promptly were brought to our table 5 min later. These wontons are the best wontons we have ever tasted in our 27 years of life. They were gourmet and wrapped like a napkin. We loved them so much, we ordered another serving. The general kao's chicken was also amazing. It was tender and lightly battered. The sauce was a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. I will be back here next time I'm in Dallas.

Great meal

By Nodoor |

First - im shocked that this is the first review in 9 months. I have no idea why. After moving to the area in the last year we had not eaten at a Chinese restaurant. We did some research and my wife picked Royal China. Based upon no recent reviews I didn’t know what to expect. We had no reservation and arrived at 5:45pm on a Wednesday night. We got the last table. The place was packed. We walked but many wonderful looking meals on the way to our table. We have Crab wontons and sizzling rice soup to start. Very good and not your typical drop in fryer from a bag wontons. Homemade. We had the General Koas chicken, Lemon chicken and chicken and noodles. All were very good with the lemon chicken the star of the show. We will be back even if it is a 12 mile drive. Plenty of food and good food.

Good not Great

By boldgo |

Very popular old school Chinese restaurant in Preston Royal quadrant. Large portions with tasty food. Dumpling and noodle kitchen excellent on an average night on a busy night noodles can be soggy. Overall consistent but not exceptional food.

Neighborhood Legend

By mrsjterrell |

Just follow the line to this place if you are craving Chinese. We suggest getting reservations or fighting the masses waiting for a table. The egg rolls are crunchy and perfect. Big too! Moo Sho Pork, beef and broccoli were perfect but it is the dumplings that stole the show for us. Give me all the dumplings. It’s also sooo fun to start with crunchy wontons and dipping sauces. The staff was so nice and in spite of the crowd, pretty darn quick! We love you royal China!

Not What It Used To Be

By mcgotes |

During a recent birthday celebration with friends we wanted to visit this long-time and once amazing Chinese Restaurant. We each chose a different lunch speciality and each commented at the end of our lunch "not what it used to be...". The waitress was unfriendly, seemed rushed and other than the young man who offered more iced tea...never saw the waitress again for just over an hour when the check arrived. TOO many other options in a city like Dallas and this experience will make us think twice before returning. Overall, just okay.

Dependable Chinese Food

By Peter R |

George, the owner, has continued the fine family reputation of Royal China which has been in business since 1974. The menu is very complete and well priced with a friendly, informative service staff. This an excellent choice for families as well as couples. Enjoy !!

A hidden gem

By Shellene |

I was in the area for business and met up with an old high school classmate who suggested this restaurant. She had been there several times and is a wine enthusiast and said they had a great wine selection. The restaurant is also family owned and at the same location for many many years. It is a favorite among the locals. When I arrived....it didn't look very impressive from the exterior as it is tucked into a bunch of stores in a strip mall. But when you walk in.....it appears very upscale. I would suggest getting there when they open at 4:30pm because it is a small place and they get busy fast. They make their own noodles which were fantastic. The waitstaff was very friendly, attentive, and helpful with the menu items. We had a wonderful meal and great conversation. Highly recommend Royal China.

Handmade noodles and dumplings

By Beverly_G_1 |

We were with a young child, so it was fun that she got to watch them stretching and making her noodles, it kept her entertained. We also ordered the Xiao Long Bao (Shanghai Soup Dumplings) which were OK but not up to Royal China's normal high standards. The garlic stir-fry was very garlicky.

Upscale Chinese

The dumplings are wonderful. The service and motif are both outstanding. The menu is delicious. I had szechuan beef and it was delicious. The others in the group loved their dishes also

Best Chinese In Dallas

By 17ritan |

This is the BEST Chinese Dallas has to offer hands down! I started off with the pearl rice meatballs that are steamed and delicious. They were generous in portion size and could easily be a meal if it weren’t for wanting more variety. I love their pan fried veggie dumplings and they have a sampler to try all selections (chicken, veggie, shrimp and pork). Dan-Dan Mian noodles are cold, fragrant and refreshing. With a tangy. Peppercorn Sichuan sauce could easily be a meal but was split 4 ways. Lamian noodles with brown sauce and vegetables were amazing! (noodles are made fresh and hand pulled).

Desperately Asian

By flyme2themun |

Really bad food… this is what I will call Americanized Chinese food. There’s nothing in the menu that is authentic Chinese. Was really disappointed. Not coming back

Outstanding New Years Eve Dinner

By Dana B |

Royal China is always packed and always a lovely event. We had a reservation for 6 (good play all around) and had the Salt and Pepper Fish, Crystal Shrimp, dried beef, hand-pulled noodles, dumplings, green beans with chicken and green tea ice cream. Everything was wonderful. I'll be back for lunch sometime in the next couple of weeks and I know the food and the service will be just as spot-on for the lunch crowd as well. In our opinion, and we have been here several years, one of the best restaurants in town.

Best Chinese food I have ever had

By Heather G |

Who knew the best Chinese restaurant that I have even eaten at was in a strip mall at Royal and Preston. I am here to say that they are famous for their dumplings but the ENTIRE menu is fantastic. I just found out about this place at a friends birthday dinner in August and I think I have been there 2 a month since. You know it's good that even on a Monday night you have to wait but I promise you it's worth the wait! My favorite is the Orange Beef and you can get two meals out of it! Trust me you will enjoy the food and atmosphere!

Decent Sichuan food in town

Pretty close to the Great Wall in the heart of North Dallas

By ekstillman |

This restaurant is reasonably close to authentic Chinese food, while allowing for American tastes. The dumplings are a highlight; try the sampler platter and you get two of each kind. Watching someone make the dumplings in the open part of the kitchen makes the gustatory experience even better. From specialties to the more mundane vegetable side dishes, everything is delicious. I particularly liked the green beans - cooked tender-crisp and well-seasoned. And because of the excellent service, it all arrived HOT. The restaurant is pleasantly noisy, because it is always busy. I look forward to my next visit. Lucky me, it is in my neighborhood.

Incredible Meal

By darthsansa14 |

This was a family dinner with my two adolescent son's. Everyone loved their food and can't wait to go back. Started with pork dumplings and soup dumplings. The pork dumplings were very good, and the soup dumplings were even better. For entrees, we had thin dan dan mian, chicken lo mian, orange chicken, and general kao's chicken. The noodle dishes were good, but the real star was the orange and general kao's chicken. They were both the best I have ever eaten. Service was friendly and efficient.

Very, very good Chinese restaurant

By Mohsman |

My wife and I went here as it my friend's son's favorite Chinese restaurant. We were not disappointed. A very interesting feature, which I had never seen before, is that they have a dumpling bar - where one can watch cooks prepare and serve excellent dumplings from scratch. We had their dumpling sample and all were excellent. The decor and table settings are modern and upscale - no bare tables and table ware. We shared several dishes and all were very good to excellent, as was the service. In short, my wife and I were very pleased with the dining experience and food and will go there again. Tip: try the dumplings

Best selection of dumpplings

By lonestartraveler3 |

Dumplings are great - we enjoy the variety order - I love the wonton soup after chemo- it’s delicious and easy. Portions are generous and they will add extra meat etc for small charge. The ginger peach tea is delicious.

Average.

By KansasTigerlily |

We ate at this restaurant because my husband found that it had a decent Zagat rating. I i'm assuming that they pulled out all the stops for those Zagat's people. However, I was not impressed. I thought the food was good but average. The service was better than average. We tried dumplings, crab Rangoon, and a couple of entrées. None of it was that impressive.

Lunch date after a friend's funeral

By Sholdon D |

My wife and I were feeling down after a funeral, so we decided to go for one our favorite pick-me-ups, the soup dumpling. This place NEVER disappoints. The Chinese cuisine is authentic and the staff is amazing. Very clean and the decor is beautiful so the ladies can take great selfies here too. Great for happy hour or business dinners.

Should be on your bucket list

By WandWoman |

I coordinated a Sunday dinner for a group of 14 adults. Harvey made it easy to make the reservation the month before and confirm it the day of the event. Our table was ready and set when our group arrived and we were warmly greeted by Jonathan. Our server, Kim, was an efficient professional. She checked to make sure if people were ready to order, since we had a few late comers. She made sure they were greeted and had a menu so they could get in the swing of things. The restaurant is noted for its dumplings. My husband and I tried the Dumpling Sampler. It was a wonderful selection of 4 types, 2 of each. We also tried the egg rolls - big, delicious ones. Read the menu online ahead of time! This place has a huge selection of many, many dishes with some original combinations. To get the best of your visit to Royal China it's helpful to be familiar with the huge number of choices. Kim made sure all of us had drinks refilled as necessary and took care of requests for To Go containers. The restaurant was full and had a waiting line when our party was ready to leave but we were never rushed! There is a reason Royal China is on the "Best of..." lists and recommended in many articles. They are a professional operation that does things right.

Best local Chinese restaurant in Dallas

The potstickers are made in house and are absolutely amazing! Whether you are dining in or stopping by to pick up takeout this is the best local Chinese restaurant in Dallas!

Plan to Wait!

By Parlez-vous1 |

We have dined at this restaurant for years for their delicious Chinese cuisine. But if you are in a rush, don't bother. Plan to wait for a table and not just on the weekends. This restaurant doesn't take reservations by phone and doesn't use Open Table or any reservation system that we are aware of. Waitstaff is always pleasant and friendly. Decor and furnishings could use a good update. Worn-out and old is the atomosphere. But again, delicious Chinese food. Since there is not another convenient option with the same food quality in the neighborhood, we will return. Try the "Take-Out" option if you don't have time. You can order on-line. Just double check that your order is correct before you leave.

Oodles of noodles!

By bigstitchguy |

We just love the food and variety of hot teas. We have not made it past the fresh hand made noodles. It is on my list of things I would like to eat for my last meal. But not in jail! Enjoy the pictures and imagine the tastes and smells as we watched the food being prepared. It is tucked in a corner but the size us quite expansive when you get through the front door.

Great Noodle and Dumpling House

By KarlFS |

We just got finished eating dinner at Royal China. Hard to believe that I've lived in the Dallas area for nearly 20 years and only discovered this place last year. Anyway, they have hand made noodles and dumplings (literally, a very happy smiling man spins, kneads, twirls and beats noodles prior to them being cooked after you order them), and a bunch of other delicious dished. This time we had one of the cold dan-dan noodle dishes. Great texture, wonderful flavor, nice and spicy. We also had an order of the soup dumplings. Steaming hot with great soup flavor. Finally, we had the Dry Stirred Beef. Sliced beef in a dense delicious spicy sauce. No reservations but you can call ahead and have your named put on the wait list. Busier earlier in the evening. We will definitely be eating here again.

Always ranked as one of the top Chinese restaurants in Dallas with the added benefit of fresh noodles made as you watch .

Excellent

We enjoyed our dinner at Royal China. Friendly greeting at door. Service prompt and helpful. Nicely decorated and clean. Food very good. Kung Pao chicken was too hot for me but would definitely go again

Tables Crammed Together, Avg Food, Lousy Service

By DanielLivesInDallas |

The tables are inches away from each other and there is no ventilation. My ten year old daughter was literally scared to take off her face mask in there. Server told me the tea I ordered was caffeine free and it wasn’t, she had an entitled attitude and was very unresponsive when I tried calling her over on a few occasions, Menu has very few pesqueterian options and a terrible KID’s menu. My daughter did not like the noodles or the sesame chicken. I was expecting something in between Pei Wei and Hakkasan, but came away disappointed.

Food Was Disappointing

By Rich B |

My wife had never been to this restaurant, so I was pleased to be able to arrange dinner there with a friend. Based on her reaction to her food, and the missteps with mine, we will not be returning. First, the restaurant was extremely busy and noisy. I think the kitchen got swamped and just started throwing food on plates. Her meal was awash with cooking oil and was mostly noodles. My first meal was the wrong meal and had to be taken back. When I got the right meal, it was all noodles and very little of anything else. What beef there was had been cooked until it had no flavor. The chocolate lava cake had a white filling instead of chocolate, it was overbaked, very dry, and served without ice cream. Certainly not worth $8.

Chinese Christmas excellence!

By MLC276 |

I've eaten a lot, I mean a whole lot, of Chinese food all across the country. This was probably THE BEST and freshest Chinese food I've ever had. We came for dinner on Christmas and we did have to wait about an hour but it was so worth it. We started with pork egg rolls, pan fried dumplings and hot and sour soup. The egg rolls were so fresh and crisp, the dumplings are made onsite right in front of you and the noodle chef is entertaining! For our main courses we split Mongolian beef, pork with garlic sauce and general tse chicken. All were top notch! I would recommend this delicious restaurant to anyone lookin for good Chinese! Thanks for starting a new Christmas tradition!

Great!

I had no idea how pretty this place was, hidden in the northeast corner of Preston & Royal. And the food was seasoned nicely. I'd say: go for it!

Fenomenal

By lpcabrera |

This place is fantastic, if you want to try an exceptional Chinese food in Dallas, Royal China is your place to be. The home made nuddles, the dumpling sample, the green lettuce leave stuffed with chicken, the happy family dish, everything we tried was first quality. The tee selection is pretty unique, so if you want to try few good combinations, the place is awesome. And to compete a great experience, the service is very good. Friendly, helpful, light. In resume, we don’t get tire to come here, every time we come to Dallas, this is a must stop for sure. Have in mind, closed after lunch and opens again around 430 PM for dinner, but at 5 is already full and you will need to wait for your table. Something you can do at the bar, enjoying a first class and friendly service.

Perfectly done...

By Elaina T |

The food was phenomenal. I ordered the Orange chicken after enjoying the dumpling sampler, which was prepared pan-seared. We went early, and glad we did because it was standing room only for the waiting area as we were leaving. If you enjoy Chinese food, you have to try this place. They make their own noodles. Fabulous!

Awesome Anniversary!

Decided on this restaurant after reading reviews. It didn't disappoint. The food and service were incredible!

Tasty Dishes!!

By Hector G |

We checked out the best Chinese Restaurant in area Royal China and the reviews were correct. The atmosphere was activate with views of noodles being hand made and people enjoying their evening!! We had the cool vegetable wraps as the appetizer. Very good!! The main course I had the Kung Pow Chicken and my wife had the Three Cup Chicken. Both were great dishes but my wife dish was the better tonight!! The egg drop soup was ok, lacking flavor. More of a chicken soup. Worth the try!!

Outstanding

A real gem tucked away in a shopping center. Nice decor, pleasant atmosphere and very prompt service. The crab cheese wontons are great but the Shanghai style soup dumplings are superb. All of the entrees were very good to excellent. I particularly recommend the Sichuan pork chef’s specialty.

Much ado about...

I had been told for quite some time I had to check out Royal China, at the intersection of Preston Road and Royal Lane in Dallas. I love Chinese food and have had my favorite spots for years but knew I had to try this place because it came so highly recommended. We arrived around 6:30PM on a Wednesday and were seated immediately. We began our dinner with Saki and the dumpling sampler as an appetizer. Comprised of two pork dumplings, two shrimp dumplings, two chicken dumplings and two vegetable dumplings I would have to say it was pedestrian at best. The lady waiting on us continually came by and wanted our next order. When we received the Saki, she wanted an appetizer order. When we received the appetizer, she wanted the main dinner order. Not in a nice way, checking if we were ready, but rudely like she wanted us in and out in short order. We had hoped to have a pleasant evening and, while not wanting to tie up her table for hours, we hoped to enjoy our dinner and not feel like she wanted us gone. Our main course was lemon chicken for me and honey walnut shrimp for my guest. I've had better lemon chicken from my local Chinese delivery place. An ample portion but no taste at all and the lemon sauce had no flavor whatsoever. In all fairness, my guest did enjoy her honey walnut shrimp and ate it all. By the time we finished the lobby was full with people waiting for a table and we were more than happy to surrender ours. I believe it's always good to take recommendations from friends and check them out. But this particular time it was truly much ado about nothing. Doubt I'll be back.

Must try chinese food!

By Cathy M |

The homemade noodles are to die for. We started with the pork soup dumplings and variety potstickers which were wonderful. You can watch them pulling the noodles and making the dumplings by hand. Our meal was over the top. The combination noodles were delicious. Everything was outstanding here including the service. If you love chinese food this is a must try.

delicious

Had the pork dumplings and the dandan henan lamian noodles. The dumplings were amazing. The noodles and especially the dressing were also very good. Service was friendly and efficient.

Great!!!

Great little gem, it never popped on yelp review apparently it wasn't rated well for some odd reason! So a few friend of mine asked that we meet there and I am glad I did! Small place, smaller than the pictures, supper packed! Very modern, great ventilation, if there is anything I despise in this world is when you go to eat somewhere and you leave smelling like you cooked the food your self, thank God this was not the case so it's a plus in my books! We started with ordered the 4 differed dimsums, didnt care much for it. We ordered the schwan pork wanton in spicy sauce it was perfect and not to spicy at all! We ordered the Phoenix chicken and shrimp it was amazing, the fruits they used with it and everything was just perfect. We also ordered the fried romaine noodles with shrimp, Supper yummy and smoky, noodles were too thick and too long but we managed, the waiter saw us and asked us if we wanted a knife, I almost said I want to see how you would eat it so I can learn 🤓 We also ordered the veggie fried rice it was supper perfect and amazing, great quantity too. Lastley we ordered the orange peel beef! The atmosphere, the service, the food quality and quantity were amazing! So glad I got to experiance this place! Loved it!

Rock solid in all respects

By 50sDad |

I live within a few miles of Royal China. I eat in, have them deliver to my house and suggest it to friends. We were a party of 8 eating at the restaurant this last Sunday. Super busy as it nearly always is. Excellent food with numerous choices for vegan/vegetarians. Large portions. Very attentive server. It seems like Chinese food is somewhat like barbecue and Tex-Mex. Everyone has their favorite. I happen to think that Royal China is one of the best.

So good

By lifeisverygood2 |

Very well established and respected restaurant in the area. If we lived closer, I could honestly eat here once a week. Those who eat here often are So Lucky! Thanks again to Trip Advisor reviews. We wanted to find some place where we could enjoy a nice quiet atmosphere and good food. We sure found it at the Royal China. My husband loves kung pao chicken and that's what he ordered. I ordered the vegetable fried rice and we shared. It's one of those times when we both wished we'd come with a party of 10 and had ordered 10 different dishes to share. It was so wonderful. Note: the kung pao chicken is one of many items on the menu that is listed as "spicy". I don't care for really hot, spicy food and this didn't bother me at all. The atmosphere is very pleasant. The waitstaff is very professional. Highly recommend this restaurant for business lunches or dinners. You will not disappoint. We can't wait to go back!!

Excellent asian food in a shopping center

By gwizz |

We popped in here spur of the moment knowing nothing about this place other than it was a Dallas staple...it is terrific! We grabbed two seats at the bar as the wait had started for the dinner hour rush. We were greeted immediately and had excellent service and food. The three delicacies soup was outstanding, the dumplings are worth the wait and the lemon chicken is superb! We will eat here again when in the area of Preston & Royal.

Decent chinese food

Went to place with not much expectation and wasn't disappointed either. They have some decent chinese cuisine, and worth trying out.

Fresh and Delicious!

By Tastefullycoco - The Simple Treasures |

The food at Royal China is excellent and definitely a cut above your usual Chinese restaurant. Everything is fresh and you get a sense that it is all made from scratch. Great service and atmosphere.

Great Noodles

By geecall |

Tried Royal China on my first visit to Dallas after reading the Tripadvisor reviews. We went on a Monday night and were shocked to see the place packed and a wait list. We only waited a few minutes before being seated. Our waitress, though very sweet, was apparently "in the weeds" as we spent a painful amount of time waiting for "the other half" of our orders (ie: My wine came fairly quickly while my spouse's beer took an additional 10 minutes.......from the same bar!). Our orders finally came out and were delicious. Although there is a very small selection of "hand pulled noodles" (no seafood or veggie) , I was able to order what I wanted and sub in those fantastic noodles (warning there was an $8.00 upcharge for subbing hand pulled over regular noodles). We will most certainly return to Royal China.

First visit was a disappoinment

By O N |

After moving into the area, my wife and I decided to try out ROYAL CHINA restaurant. At 6pm, the place was packed and we were seated back by the bathroom at an awful table. Service was snappy but the food was only average at best. House wine was crazy pricey in my opinion so not a very enjoyable first experience. Average at best.

Excellent Chinese Restaurant In Good Location

By TexasAg69 |

Royal China specializes in hand made Chinese Noodle Dishes. Unlike many Chinese restaurants each meal is prepared to order and it tasted better as a result. Service was excellent despite every table being used. This restaurant was recommended by several people and I am now one of them. Hot tea is served in traditional Chinese fashion and was excellent. Take your own sweetener packets.

A great place for lunch, but go early!

By wtw9 |

My wife and I recently tried Royal China for the first time and we weren't disappointed. We had heard great things about the dumplings and started our lunch with the dumpling sampler. They were all delicious. My wife's favorite were the veggie dumplings. We both had Moo Shoo pork for our entree. The portions were generous to the point of having plenty to take home for dinner. Service was very efficient. My only complaint is they need a sign on or directly over the door. We weren't 100% certain we were opening the right one! We're glad we did, though.

Excellent Asian Cuisine

By TravelWell040 |

Another visit to Dallas and it wasn't long before the car started to automatically drive to one of our favorite Asian restaurants. The staff is helpful, attentive, and pleasant. The food is not doctored with MSG or thick oil. Even the wine list is better than often found in Asian restaurants. Even the restrooms are clean (If you frequent Asian restaurants often you will understand the comment!!).

BEST CHINESE FOOD

By PsychSanAntonio |

I go here often with my grandsons when I visit Dallas. There is a wait if you don't get there early. The food is very good. They make their own noodles and dumplings. Good variety. Good service. Full bar.

Incredible Surprise

Was so happy to have such tasty dishes! The crab rangoon was the best I'd ever had. Also, the mongolian beef was very good! I'm looking forward to another visit!
