Measly senior discount

By davidcircuit |

Decided to tag along with my 85 year old mother who loves buffets. In order for her to receive the measly 10% senior discount she had to dig into her purse to produce an ID. Give me a break...85yo walking very slowly with a cane... I shook my head and deducted a dollar from the voluntary tip that wasn't earned anyway.

Excellent Chinese / Asian Buffet

By Robert P |

I rarely rate a Chinese buffet 5 stars. This place deserves it. It is located in South Philadelphia and is in a strip mall with ample parking (which is unusual). The buffet contains all the common fare, but also includes roast duck, ginger and scallion crab, and other items that you don't find on most buffets. The food was much better than average Asian buffets and was refilled quickly. The place was quite crowded, as you would expect. The restaurant was clean and pleasant. For about $13 per person for dinner, you can't beat it. This was one of the best of its type I have ever been to.

Filling and Delicious

By PelleasPhiladelphia |

An all you can eat Chinese buffet. One of my daughter’s favorite destinations in Philly. Here’s her review: “Very delicious buffet with many things to eat and drink. Noodles are very good with two different types to choose from, the dumplings are very good!!! I also like the shrimp and crawfish they have I am a lover of seafood so maybe it’s just me, but you should try it! My dad says that he likes the wonton soup and how you can put a bunch of different things in it. The treats are so yummy and so many types of deserts to choose from! Though they took away their soft ice cream dispenser which personally, was my favorite part😢🥺😭 If the owner of this buffet is reading this review, then HEY, BRING BACK YOUR SOFT ICE CREAM DISPENSER RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!! But at least they replaced it with regular cups of ice cream, not as good, but still.

I heard this place was really good, so we figured we would give it a try. Well, we definitely will be back next month.

Miracle on Columbus

By Herstory_62 |

Terrific & seemingly endless buffet tables offering any & all of your favorite Chinese favorites, including sushi, several delicious soups, meats, vegetables. lo mein, desserts & tempting dumplings of all shapes, flavors & sizes - miraculously all the same price no matter the quantity. Can't wait to go back & try some of the dishes I didn't have room for!

"Decent"

Value for money imo.. I had sushi, chicken with honey sauce, and several other appetizers. I recommend this place . Only bad thing is the waitresses behaviour.I can not enjoy my food while they re all the time standing next to my table...I really hate this.

Great Chinese Buffet

Ruby Buffet has a great selection of Chinese food, sushi and American food. I have never been disappointed there.

Where’s the Tip

By Deborah B |

On Sunday 9/17/23 my husband and I are senior citizens. I’ve been to Ruby’s dated back to the early 2000. I’ve referred several of my associates to Ruby’s…But to my surprise the Hostess demanded that I give her a tip. She questioned the zero in tip section…I explained to her I didn’t have any extra money… Then she proceeded to follow me to the door asking for her tip… Now I thought Tips are Optional …

A night out with Friends

By Charles P |

This is an Asian buffet but they have pizza, French fries, corn on the cob, fried chicken, and more. The restaurant is a really busy place and it's that way every time we're here. There may be Asian buffets with more varieties of chicken and more varieties of shrimp, but this is a reliable place in South Philly near Washington Ave & Columbus Blvd. The servers are very quick to clear away empty dishes. They keep it going. The food tastes great! It's a clean place you'll be happy to visit, just like all those people in there the other evening.

Something for everyone!

Plenty of choices from sushi to ice cream! The staff is very accommodating and food is consistently replaced.

Average Buffet

By Melina R |

This buffet offers both American and Asian cuisines. They also offer pizza here. I found the food here to be average in value and taste in comparison to other restaurants. The lights are extremely bright here at all times and their prices are mid-range. This restaurant is okay if no other options exist. I had oysters here and was sick afterwards.

Bad Oyster, Delicious Pizza and Ice Cream

By Venpenpen |

We came to the buffet actually because we want to eat oyster. Unfortunately the oyster was dirty, they dont washed it properly and placed good. The most bad oyster I ever ate. Thanks god their king crab and shrimps are fresh even the crab was too salty. The margarita pizza is great, we love it. And the ice cream is so creamy and the fruit and other chocolate sauce make it perfects. The waitres are nice and very quick to clean our dirty plates and bring drinks that we order.

All Good. . .Quality Food

By Terri P |

I tend to shy away from buffets as it tends to be a smorgasboard of bad food, but I overeat anyway. This was quality food that was well cooked and seasoned. There were seafood items available that were of reasonable quality that were good. The restaurant was clean and the environment was nice and inviting. Nice alternative to a pricey restaurant.

Decent

By Jelani J |

Crab legs were pretty good however be prepared to wait for them as there was consistently a line. Would have like more grilled items as alot of items were fried.

Less than ok

By Rsantos79 |

It's no different than any other buffet out there. Not impressed by the quality of the food either. The sushi is ok, don't talk to the sushi chef. He doesn't take orders and or answer questions. Instead he will say " if you don't like.....". Will not be going there again for that reason.

Very good selection and tastes good too!

By Trumpets |

Big buffet with many different selections to choose from. Definitely something for everyone, and much of it was quite a bit for everyone! From the time we were seated to the time we left, the service was very cordial, and the food fresh and delicious! I say amen to the sea bass being well prepared. Everything was good, including the sushi! I'll be back when in the area!

Cheap and passable

By Scott |

Ruby buffet is inexpensive and a good place to take a big hungry family without breaking the bank. As long as you are ok with buffet food (my wife isn’t and so won’t go here), it is fine. They have a decent selection and most of it is passable—some of it good. Not someplace I’d go on a date.

Bad food, dirty place and poor service - Yuck!

By uacbpa |

I am disgusted by pretty much everything. Once upon a time this was a good place to enjoy a buffet and have a nice time with family and friends. Yesterday, however, the entire experience was terrible. The place looks neglected and run down, kept to a minimum level of cleanness. You can see smears of things on tables, on some walls and on the entrance door. For a place where multiple people pick up the food they are going to eat, that's a big no-no. It should be spotless, but it wasn't, far from it. The food was overcooked beyond recognition, yet still cold, as if it was reheated several times and it was due for another reheating. Some of it was also tasteless. Then there was the service. I have no idea why the servers were in such rush. The restaurant wasn't full, and there wasn't a wait line. Yet, we were handed the check while we were still eating (a first round). The server took our plates as soon as we finish our first round. We went for a second round and asked for another set of utensils, and the server complained that "she asked us if we wanted to keep them, and we said no", which was actually untrue, but who cares, seems like they just wanted to give us attitude. While still eating on our second round, the server came back asking for the money for the check that she left on the table. I paid with my card and she was a little too emphatic about me having to sign the receipt when she came back. This is the first time in decades that I leave no tip. Today my stomach is paying the consequences of that terrible food. I do not recommend this place. There are plenty of much better places in this neighborhood, that are welcoming and have food that doesn't give you diarrhea.

Great food & CLEAN

By Pete C |

We were visiting family in Philadelphia Thanksgiving weekend. For Thanksgiving dinner we wasted $$$$ by going to the Valley Green Inn, when we should have gone to "Ruby Buffet". Luckily we went to Ruby Buffet for dinner on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised. First off it was very clean, employees very friendly, food selection was great, quality of food was excellent. And then the price is incredibly reasonable. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. And they have a nice parking lot for FREE which drove me crazy in Philadelphia having to feed the parking kiosk $6 every 2 hours. Ruby Buffet is #1.

Nice little Buffet...

By wattonwife |

I was taken here by some friends on one of many trips to Philadelphia. we were seated right away, and up we went to the buffet. there was a wide selection of seafood, an area of american foods, and asian foods. the fruit area was nice, and although my picky 8 year old didn't really find much she liked, the adults ate well. the dessert at the end was also very nice, and it really was a nice place to eat.

Frog legs Rice noodles Coconut chicken and - yes - pizza

By Nancy D |

3 double islands and two single - everything for the Asian palate and french fries and pork chops for the American palate - some chicken dishes were a little overcooked -mostly chicken - but the beef and pork was well cooked and all the sauces were well prepared - desserts were soft and not over baked and the salad bar was excellent - price varies depending on time and they do have a meal to go offering - please see pictures - nice decor and pleasant staff -

Ruby Buffet Philadelphia

By Liz Selwyn |

Ate there on Sunday (11/01/2020), unfortunately. A multitude of patrons not wearing masks while getting food from buffet trays. A multitude of patrons not wearing gloves that are at the buffet while getting food from buffet trays. One glove box remained empty, but several others were stocked with gloves. Observed an employee not wearing her gloves while replenishing food to buffet trays. Bad. We were disgusted by this and left. Shame on Ruby Buffet!

Best buffet in philly!

Total Disappointment!

By Rashiid K C |

Foodies beware! I was actually thinking of how unfortunate it is that there is no Golden Corral in Philadelphia. This made me search online for the best buffets in the city. In my search results I found this place. Amazingly, it was listed among the best in the city so I thought this would make a great outing for the family. We retrieved our kids from their respective schools on opposite sides of the city, and began our trek to Ruby's. We braved rush hour traffic to get there as our minds raced with anticipation of the tasty dishes for which our mouths began to water. Well, we really overshot in our imaginations, and maybe that's where this all went wrong! We arrived and it was a nice enough place. Very spacious and it was barely crowded when we arrived. For some reason, some of the menu items I saw online were absent from the buffet selections. We were underwhelmed by this in-congruency. The food appeared to have been setting out far past its time. The selection seemed very limited. To add insult to our injury, everything was lukewarm and hardly appetizing. We immediately gathered our things and moved to leave. My son hadn't even begun eating the food he had on his plate. My daughter was making the best of a bad situation. My wife and I only sampled the items on our plates before realizing we needed to head for the border or anywhere away from Ruby's. We were then required to pay full price for our meals because we'd made plates. Even though we were totally dissatisfied customers. I will never darken the doorway of this place. Save your time and money! Go anywhere else but this horrible establishment! They give buffets a bad wrap.

One of the better buffets out there

By aruba-blue115 |

For an eatery in this class, this buffet delivers. Some of the dishes were just simply very good (I had some seabass which was prepared just right and very tasty). They don't have a liquor license and so you may want to BYOB. I wouldn't hesitate to visit again. Decent selection of seafood in the dinner menu (oysters, too).

Great Buffet

Very good buffet with a nice selection of food and great staff. I have been to many buffets but when visiting the Ikea store on Columbus Avenue I noticed this buffet and visited. Great Find!

Good seafood buffet

By aha181 |

Thanks Timothy for bringing us to this lovely buffet. It has a wide variety of food from Chinese to western. The salad bar alome is enough to fill my empty stomach.

Pretty typical Chinese, plus buffet

By Joan K |

My son and I liked the sushi choices! The rest of it was pretty similar to what we've seen on other Chinese, plus buffets, grease and all. It was fine; my kids, who had requested this, were happy. It's a very popular spot, and was crowded. It was also easy to get to by mass transit, if you know what you're doing, except that we had to wait forever for the bus. The bus lets you off right at that shopping center.

Best Asian Buffet in Philly

By Bradley B |

I am a Chinese-American Senior Citizen and my husband and I go to a lot of local Asian restaurants. Ruby Buffet serves a wide variety of Chinese specialties, American comfort food, and sushi. We go there quite often - especially for the lunch buffet. The food is always good, The staff are friendly and professional, and the atmosphere is pleasant and clean. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Philly!

GREAT TASTING FOOD!!!

By FellowTraveler647912 |

My family and I have enjoyed Ruby Buffett for over 4 years. The atmosphere and staff are wonderful. They have the best & largest Salad & Fruit Bar. My favorites dishes are the tender and saucy Barbecue Ribs, Alaskan Crab Legs, SHRIMP, Beef, and their tasty Fried & Baked Chicken. Ruby's also has delicious Soups,Garlic Bread ,Sushi & Deserts. I go at least twice a month because their food tastes the best over all other buffets. I guess people feel the same way because sometimes it gets very crowded.

Good variety at a reasonable price

I've been there several times with family members. We like their sushi bar as well as the salad. Service is excellent. Like their green tea.

Wonderful buffet items, multi-cultural food and plenty of it!

By Shahrazad A |

Asian styled decorations, spacious dining areas, buffet filled with Asian and American foods, huge salad bar, sushi, fried, baked or whatever you desire. Friendly, plenty of parking, in a plaza. They also offer carry-out so you can take food back to your hotel.
